Marte went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Friday's 6-5 win over the Giants.

The Diamondbacks offense has struggled for much of the season, and Marte's bat has been particularly quiet. Friday's home run was his first in 30 games, part of his most explosive game of the season. It was one of the few times in 2020 that Marte resembled the player that had a .981 OPS and 32 home runs in 2019. The Diamondbacks are hoping this is a sign of things to come.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Marte and rookie Daulton Varsho will share center field after the team traded Starling Marte, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Varsho got the start Tuesday, but Lovullo said Marte will move from second base to the outfield as well. He spent most of his breakout 2019 campaign as a center fielder. Tim Locastro will also be in the center field mix.

Marte went 2-for-3 a double and two runs scored in Friday's win over San Francisco.

Marte continues to produce at a steady rate and has been one of the most consistent hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup. The star second baseman is hitting .309 with eight doubles, eight RBI and 11 runs scored in 97 at-bats this month.

Marte went 2-for-4 with a double in Thursday's loss against Oakland.

Marte notched his seventh double of the season off Sean Manaea, and he also pushed his hitting streak to five games -- he has delivered multi-hit outings in four of those contests. Marte has been one of the most productive hitters in the Diamondbacks lineup in 2020, slashing .343/.361/.441 with a .802 OPS in 108 plate appearances across 25 games.

Marte returned to the lineup and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Oakland.

Marte rapped out multiple hits for the 11th time in 24 games and raised his average to .337. That's higher than he posted during his breakout 2019 season, but Marte's power is down -- just one home run and a .429 slugging percentage. Pitchers are attacking him differently, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, who notes Marte is seeing fewer fastballs over the plate and more on the edge. This has contributed to a reduction in barrels. Last year, when Marte slugged .592 and launched 32 home runs, he barreled up 9.3 percent of his batted balls. That has fallen to 3.6 percent in 2020.

Marte will hit the bench for the first time this season Tuesday against Oakland, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Marte has made excellent contact in recent games, hitting .387 over his last seven contests. Eduardo Escobar will slide to second base Tuesday, with Jake Lamb starting at third.

Marte went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Padres.

The stolen base was the first in 2020 for Marte, who stole 10 in 144 games during his breakout 2019 season. The hot-hitting second baseman is 11-for-26 with six RBI over the last six games. Marte is a fixture atop the order, batting either leadoff or second in every game.

Marte went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Saturday's win over the Padres.

Marte has driven in a run in each of his last five games, a span in which he's hit for .409 with a .940 OPS. The NL MVP candidate in 2019 has been seeing the ball well all year long, and he is currently hitting .321 with a .717 OPS, seven RBI and eight runs scored in 53 August at-bats.

Marte went 4-for-6 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored in a 12-8 win over Colorado on Monday.

Marte scored three runs in the first four innings and later drove in an insurance run in the ninth. The 26-year-old switch-hitter has just four RBI this season but owns a .333/.347/.449 slash line.

Marte went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 14-7 win over the Astros.

Marte's biggest contributions came in the fourth inning. In his first at-bat of the inning, he hit a leadoff single and scored on a Kole Calhoun inside-the-park homer. Marte then doubled home Stephen Vogt before scoring on a Calhoun single for the eighth of nine Arizona runs in the rally. The 26-year-old Marte has a homer, three RBI, six runs scored and a .319 batting average in 12 games this season.

Marte started at shortstop and went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers.

Marte started at second base the first seven games before moving to shortstop Friday. The regular starter at short, the slumping Nick Ahmed, was given an off day. Marte's one of the few Diamondback hitters making consistent contact to start the season. He's hit in seven of the first eight games, including multiple hits in four of them, with four extra-base hits and a slash of .344/.371/.531.

Marte went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.

Marte found his stride early with a leadoff single in the first inning, then got the Diamondbacks on the board by swatting an opposite field home run off Ross Stripling in the third. It was the first long ball of the season for the 26-year-old, who enjoyed a breakout 2019 campaign that included 32 homers and a .329 average across 144 games.

Marte scored the tying run in the eighth inning after getting aboard with a walk. In the ninth, his sacrifice fly put the Diamondbacks ahead. Marte has gone 4-for-11 with a pair of doubles in the first three games of 2020. Serving as the leadoff hitter will likely suppress his RBI count, but he gets on base frequently enough (.389 OBP in 2019, .342 career) to make up for that in runs scored.

Marte batted leadoff and went 1-for-4 with a double in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Padres.

Marte was primarily the second hitter in the order in 2019, when he had a breakout season, but he's been used as the leadoff hitter in both games to start the season. He's hit safely in each of the first two games.

Marte belted a pair of home runs during Monday's intrasquad game, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Marte tagged Merrill Kelly in the first inning, then got to him again later. "I'm not surprised by what he's doing," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "He's locked in right now. It's what every hitter looks to get to." He hit well in spring training and has continued to rake in camp. Marte terrorized pitchers in 2019, smacking 32 home runs with a .263 ISO.

Marte opened summer camp much like spring training when he homered in his first at-bat of the Cactus League. He could move around defensively but is expected to make second base his primary home.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo talked about using the designated hitter position as a way to keep Marte's bat in the lineup while giving him a break in the field, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Marte had a breakout season in 2019 before tiring down the stretch and suffering a stress reaction in his back. The theory at the time was that he played too much, particularly in center field, which was a new position to him. "It will give me a chance to get guys off their feet," Lovullo said of the DH. "Knowing the workload is going to be pretty heavy and we're going to be going full throttle, getting a guy off his feet for a day game in Colorado is probably something we would be addressing." The manager had every intention of giving Marte more downtime in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to MLB. The desire to rest him is still there during the 60-game sprint of a regular season. Only now, the rest will be in the form of having Marte serve as the DH. Others being considered for the DH rotation are Jake Lamb, Christian Walker, Eduardo Escobar and Kevin Cron.

Marte showed no effect from last season's back injury during a productive spring. He batted .375 (9-for-24) with four extra-base hits, three runs scored and four RBI over nine Cactus League games.

Marte's breakout 2019 season ended prematurely in September when a stress reaction in his back ended his campaign. It was an injury the Diamondbacks feel was brought on by him playing center field, a more active position than second base, his primary diamond home until last season. He showed no residual effects of the injury during the spring when he homered in his first spring at-bat and didn't stop hitting. Marte will move back to the less stressful second base in 2020. The switch-hitter bounced between leadoff and second in the order in the Cactus League, switching up with the newly acquired Starling Marte.

Marte wasted little time, jumping on a mistake from Athletics right-hander Chris Bassitt during his first spring at-bat. Marte, who had a breakout campaign in 2019, started at second base in Arizona's first Cactus League game. That's likely the position he'll occupy most frequently in 2020 after the Diamondbacks acquired Starling Marte to man center field, the spot at which Ketel Marte started the most games last season.

The Diamondbacks could have Ketel Marte (back) primarily play second base after the team acquired center fielder Sterling Marte from the Pirates, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Ketel Marte, who shuttled between second base and center field in 2019, appeared in a career-high 92 games in the outfield before sustaining a back injury late in the season. The Diamondbacks believe the extra activity involved in being a center fielder contributed to the injury, so the acquisition of Sterling Marte gives manager Torey Lovullo the flexibility to have Ketel Marte play a less stressful position.

Marte (back) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.

Marte was held out of Wednesday's game after leaving Tuesday's contest with a stiff back, and he will miss another game Friday despite the Diamondbacks coming off a team off day. It's not yet clear how long Marte will be sidelined, but with Arizona's playoff hopes fading, there is little incentive for the club to risk Marte's long-term health.

Marte (back) will undergo an MRI on Wednesday morning and will not play in that day's series finale against the Marlins, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Marte was pulled from Tuesday's game with what was described as back stiffness. The Diamondbacks are technically still in the hunt for a postseason berth, but it's a long shot at this point. As such, they may not want to push a valuable asset like Marte, who's had a breakout campaign.

Marte, who had been dealing with a hamstring injury, was replaced in center field to start the seventh inning of Thursday's win over the Dodgers.

There's nothing to indicate Marte was removed due to an aggravation of the hamstring, so his removal may be attributed to an abundance of caution. The Diamondbacks were leading at the time, 10-4, and it's logical that manager Torey Lovullo did not want to push Marte.
