Allows three runs in loss
Gausman took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and three walks across five innings in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat against the Twins in Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Gausman entered the postseason with a 2.43 ERA across 29.2 innings in September, but was unable to keep it rolling in Tuesday's loss. His weak spot proved to be Royce Lewis, to whom Gausman conceded two home runs in the first and third innings. The team ultimately decided to hand things over to the bullpen after only 73 pitches, which may leave the right-hander available if needed to cover a few outs later in the series. Gausman now has a 4.91 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 25.2 career postseason innings with 30 strikeouts.

Officially tapped for Game 1
Gausman will start Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series for the Blue Jays on Tuesday versus the Twins, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Once the Blue Jays clinched a playoff spot and were able to scratch Gausman from his scheduled start in their regular season finale, it was obvious they were doing it in order to set him up for Game 1 of the Wild Card Series. Gausman finished the regular season on a high note, tossing a combined 13 shutout frames in his last two starts. He'll be opposed by Pablo Lopez on Tuesday.

Brilliant in no-decision
Gausman did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing three hits and two walks over seven shutout innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
This marked Gausman's second straight scoreless outing against the Yankees after throwing six shutout innings in a win against New York on Sept. 20. Over the two starts, the 32-year-old righty was electric, throwing 13 innings with 15 strikeouts while allowing just six hits and five walks. Gausman is currently scheduled to start the last Blue Jays game of the year at home against the Rays.

Fans 10 in victory
Gausman (12-9) earned the win over the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing three hits and walking three batters over six scoreless innings. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was dominant in the victory, racking up 17 swinging strikes en route to his ninth double-digit punchout effort of the campaign. The right-hander's sixth strikeout of the game gave him a new career-best single-season total, surpassing the mark he set with San Francisco in 2021. Gausman ranks second in the majors with 232 punchouts and has complemented that total with a 3.29 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 178 innings.

Walks six in loss
Gausman (11-9) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and six walks over 4.2 innings against the Rangers. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old ace endured a tough outing Thursday, issuing a season-high six walks and taking his ninth loss of the campaign. Corey Seager led the the charge for the Rangers, with a solo home run in the first inning and a two-run double in the second, while Jonah Heim added a solo homer in the third. This marked the second time in three September starts that Gausman failed to complete five innings, inflating his ERA to 4.15 and WHIP to 1.35 across 56.1 second-half innings. Despite the inconsistency, Gausman has maintained impressive strikeout numbers this season, boasting an 11.6 K/9 while accumulating an AL-leading 222 punchouts in 172 innings. He is expected to get his next chance in New York against a struggling Yankees' offense.

Fans 10 in 11th win
Gausman (11-8) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over eight innings in a 5-1 victory over the Royals. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
An Edward Olivares solo shot in the fifth inning was the only blemish on his line, as Gausman delivered his 18th quality start of the season and his eighth outing with double-digit strikeouts. The right-hander's been a little more erratic in the second half, but he still sports a 3.83 ERA and 64:15 K:BB through 51.2 innings since the All-Star break. Gausman will likely take the mound next in a key wild-card battle next week during a home series against the Rangers.
Sep 3, 2023
Rain cuts start to four innings
Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over four innings against the Rockies. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Gausman needed 67 pitches to complete four innings, but he did not return for the fifth due to a 59-minute rain delay. Prior to the delay, Gausman was not at his sharpest, allowing all three runs and seven baserunners in the third and fourth innings. His five strikeouts lifted his season total to a league-leading 207 in 159.1 innings. He'll carry a 3.39 ERA and 1.21 WHIP into his next start, likely to take place at home against the Royals over the weekend.

Picks up 10th win
Gausman (10-8) earned the win Monday, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings against Washington. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gausman had to contend with traffic in all five innings, though he held the Nationals to three runs to reach double-digits in win. The 32-year-old Gausman has been somewhat inconsistent of late, pitching to a 5.51 ERA over his last three outings. Overall, he sports a 3.30 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and 202:40 K:BB across 26 starts (87 innings) this season. Gausman currently lines up for a road matchup with the Rockies in his next outing.
Aug 24, 2023
Takes loss despite quality start
Gausman (9-8) took the loss against Baltimore on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out eight batters over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman matched Orioles starter Dean Kremer by yielding just five hits over six frames, but three of the knocks against Gausman went for extra bases while those against Kremer were all singles. Consequently, the Toronto ace allowed a pair of runs, which was enough to tag him with the loss in a contest during which the Blue Jays were unable to score. This was nonetheless a solid bounce-back for Gausman after he gave up seven runs (five earned) over 5.1 frames against Philadelphia in his previous outing, and he moved back into sole possession of the AL strikeout lead with his eight punchouts. The veteran right-hander has posted a 3.23 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 195:38 K:BB over 150.1 innings on the campaign.
Aug 17, 2023
Falters against Phillies
Gausman (9-7) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings as the Blue Jays were downed 9-4 by the Phillies. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander continues to alternate strong outings with poor ones since the All-Star break, and this one was particularly rough as Gausman managed to generate only six swinging strikes among his 84 pitches. Over his last five starts, he's posted a 4.08 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 34:8 K:BB through 28.2 innings, a step back from his performance in the first half of the season. He'll look to right the ship in his next start, likely to come next week in Baltimore.
Aug 10, 2023
Tosses seven scoreless frames
Gausman (9-6) earned the win over Cleveland on Wednesday, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman opened the contest by giving up a leadoff single, but he allowed just three more baserunners the rest of the way and didn't put multiple runners on base in any frame. The right-hander completed seven innings for the first time since June 6 and finished with his 16th quality start, tied for third in the majors. Gausman also ranks first among American League qualified pitchers with 183 strikeouts, third with a 3.04 ERA and 12th with a 1.14 WHIP.
Aug 3, 2023
Struggles in loss
Gausman (8-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Baltimore. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed multiple baserunners in three separate frames and was pulled with one out in the fifth after a Ryan O'Hearn single. This marks the 32-year-old right-hander's shortest outing since he went just 3.1 innings against the Red Sox on May 4. However, it's worth noting that Gausman had been exceptional between these two rough starts, going 6-2 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 113:25 K:BB across 85.2 innings during that stretch. He will look to rebound in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come against Cleveland.
Jul 29, 2023
Fans nine in eighth win
Gausman (8-5) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over six innings in a 4-1 victory over the Angels. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander served up a solo shot to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning but buckled down after that, delivering his 15th quality start of the season -- tied for third in MLB, one back of Gerrit Cole and Logan Webb -- on 105 pitches, including 19 swinging strikes. Gausman will carry a 3.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 171:32 K:BB through 127.2 innings into his next outing, likely to come at home next week against the Orioles.
Jul 23, 2023
Can't keep ball in park against M's
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-8 loss to the Mariners, giving up four runs -- all on solo home runs -- over six innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander gave up only five hits in total, but when Seattle's bats made contact, the ball went a long way. It's the first time since April 17 that Gausman has served up multiple homers in a start, so this performance likely isn't the beginning of a trend. He'll take a 3.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and dazzling 162:29 K:BB through 121.2 innings into his next outing, which is likely to come at home next weekend against the Angels.
Jul 20, 2023
Listed as Saturday's starter
Gausman (side) is listed as the Blue Jays' starter for Saturday's game in Seattle, Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star reports.
ANALYSIS
It had been reported that Gausman was a go for this weekend after he completed a bullpen session without issue Wednesday and now we know the day he will pitch. The right-hander will be pitching on two weeks' rest after having to be scratched from his last scheduled outing with left side discomfort.
Jul 19, 2023
On track for start this weekend
Gausman (side) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and is on track to make a start this weekend in Seattle, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The exact date of Gausman's next start has not been determined, but the good news is appears to be over the left side issue which caused him to be scratched from his last outing. It was July 8 the last time the right-hander pitched, so he will be well rested.
Jul 18, 2023
Hoping to start this weekend
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that the team remains hopeful Gausman (side) can make a start this weekend in Seattle, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman had to be scratched from his last scheduled outing Saturday against the Diamondbacks due to left side discomfort, but he is feeling better and moving in a positive direction. As things stand right now, the right-hander is expected to avoid the injured list and could take the ball as soon as Friday.
Jul 16, 2023
Won't start in Padres series
Gausman (side) won't start during the Blue Jays' upcoming series against the Padres, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Blue Jays recently said that Gausman isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list as he deals with left side discomfort, but manager John Schneider said Sunday that he wants to give the right-hander "a little bit of extra rest." The earliest Gauman would take the mound would be Friday in Seattle, but a firm date for his next start hasn't yet been revealed.
Jul 15, 2023
Injured list not deemed necessary
Gausman's (side) next scheduled start has yet to be determined, but he isn't expected to require a trip to the injured list, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Left side discomfort caused Gausman to be scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Diamondbacks, but he seems to have avoided a significant injury. If he progresses well over the next few days, he could be an option to start during next week's series against the Padres, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday.
Jul 15, 2023
Scratched with side discomfort
Gausman was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Diamondbacks due to left side discomfort, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman has been one of the best starters in the league this season, recording a 3.03 ERA and a career-high 32.6 percent strikeout rate in 19 starts prior to the break. Losing him for an extended period would be a big blow, but for now, the issue appears relatively minor. An MRI showed nothing of concern, so the righty is merely considered day-to-day for now. Toronto has an off day Monday, so it's possible Gausman can skip just one start and avoid the injured list. Chris Bassitt will take the hill Saturday.
Jul 9, 2023
Strikes out seven in loss
Gausman (7-5) took the loss Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings against the Tigers. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed three consecutive hits with one out in the first which would lead to the only two runs in the contest. The right-hander was basically lights out aside from the opening frame and only allowed three more baserunners from the second inning on, before being relieved by Nate Pearson in the seventh. Gausman has now recorded at least seven strikeouts in each of his last three starts, though he's now lost his last two decisions (spanning three starts) after previously winning five straight.
Jul 2, 2023
Strong in no-decision
Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gausman fell one inning shy of picking up a fourth consecutive quality start, allowing just two runs across five innings of work. The veteran right-hander has been exceptional in 2023 outside of a few rough outings, giving up three or fewer runs in 15 of his 18 appearances including six shutout performances. However, Gausman sports a 3.04 ERA through 109.2 innings, a number that's largely inflated by individual starts of eight, seven and six earned runs. Outside the trio of poor starts, Gausman boasts a 1.48 ERA with a 133:20 K:BB over 97 frames.
Jun 28, 2023
Takes loss despite dominant effort
Gausman (7-4) was stuck with the loss Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings against San Francisco. He struck out 12.
ANALYSIS
The Blue Jays couldn't muster any run support for Gausman, who allowed just one run while recording double-digit strikeouts for the seventh time this season. It's Gausman's first loss since May 4 as he lowered his ERA to 3.01 with a 1.13 WHIP and 139 strikeouts (second most in the league) through 17 starts (104.2 innings) this season. The 32-year-old right-hander will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, currently lined up for this weekend against the Red Sox.
Jun 22, 2023
Notches seventh win
Gausman (7-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings against the Marlins. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Gausman cruised through the first three innings as Toronto's offense backed him with five runs early. He would run into some trouble in the fourth, however, giving up three consecutive hits to open the inning which would lead to two runs coming home for the Marlins. The right-hander allowed eight hits on the afternoon, the most he's surrendered in a start since May 5 against the Red Sox, but was still able to notch his seventh win of the season. Gausman, who had allowed one run or fewer in four of his last five starts coming in, has now won his last five decisions (spanning seven starts).
Jun 17, 2023
Stifles Rangers for sixth win
Gausman (6-3) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings in a 2-1 victory over the Rangers. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
While the veteran right-hander wasn't as dominant as he's capable of being, Gausman was just as stingy as he reeled off his 11th quality start in 15 trips to the mound -- tying him for second in the majors in QS behind Marcus Stroman's 13. Gausman has won four straight decisions over his last five outings, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 40:13 K:BB through 29.2 innings over that stretch, and he'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is likely to come on the road next week in Miami.
Jun 15, 2023
Taking ball Friday
Gausman will make his next start Friday against the Rangers, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
He had tentatively been lined up for Saturday, but the Blue Jays will move Gausman up to Friday, when he will be on regular rest. Toronto wll go with a bullpen game Saturday in Texas.
Jun 11, 2023
Struggles versus Minnesota
Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing six runs on seven hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Gausman failed to get through the fifth inning for the first time since May 4 and third time this season. Coming into Sunday, the right-hander had given up just six earned runs over his past six starts (40 innings) and tallied 55 strikeouts during that stretch. It's safe to chalk Gausman's poor performance up as an outlier, but it's worth noting that this is the third time he's allowed at least six runs this year. Despite the blowup outings, the 32-year-old still boasts a strong 3.12 ERA across 14 starts (86.2 innings) and has 117 strikeouts, which is the second-most in MLB behind Spencer Strider (121).
Jun 7, 2023
Ties career high with 13 Ks
Gausman (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Astros, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out 13 without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
One day after Alek Manoah lasted only one-third of an inning and lost his spot in the rotation, Gausman gave his bullpen a needed breather with another dominant performance. The veteran right-hander generated 36 called or swinging strikes among his 101 pitches as he tied his career high with 13 strikeouts, and if it weren't for a Mauricio Dubon leadoff homer he might have taken aim at his first career shutout. Gausman has 10 quality starts and six double-digit strikeout efforts among his 13 outings this season, and he'll take a 2.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and eye-popping 113:18 K:BB through 82 innings into his next start, likely to come at home this weekend against the Twins.
Jun 1, 2023
Fans 11 in fourth win
Gausman (4-3) struck out 11 and allowed five hits and two walks across 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander produced 34 called or swinging strikes as he shut down Milwaukee to help deliver a series win for Toronto. Gausman has been dominant over his past five starts and has given up just five earns runs with 42 strikeouts during that span. The 32-year-old has a 2.76 ERA and 100:18 K:BB through 75 innings this season, and he tentatively lines up for a matchup with the Astros next week.
May 27, 2023
Notches third win
Gausman (3-3) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and five walks over 5.1 innings against the Twins. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Gausman has rebounded nicely since coughing up eight runs in 3.1 innings against Boston on May 4. Since then, the right-hander has given up just five runs over 26.1 innings pitched. The former Oriole also ranks second in the league with 89 strikeouts.
May 21, 2023
Eight innings in no-decision
Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over eight innings during an 8-3 loss to the Orioles in extras. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Gausman surrendered two runs in the third but was otherwise sharp while tying his season high with eight completed frames. The strong outing lowered his ERA from 3.27 to 3.14, and he sports an outstanding 81:11 K:BB through 63 innings despite tying his season low with four strikeouts Sunday. Aside from two terrible outings, Gausman has been extremely sharp this year and will look to keep up his strong play next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for the opener of a three-game set in Minnesota.
May 17, 2023
Fans 10 in no-decision
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Yankees, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander fanned double-digit batters for the fourth time in nine starts, but Gausman exited with the score tied 3-3 and had no chance to earn his third win. The quality start was his fourth in his last five outings and seventh of the year, and he'll take a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 77:9 K:BB through 55 innings into his next start, likely to come at home this weekend against the Orioles.
May 11, 2023
Six scoreless in no-decision
Gausman did not factor into the decision Wednesday, tossing six scoreless innings in which he allowed three hits during a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia. He struck out nine and did not walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
Gausman has been a hit-or-miss fantasy player so far. In five of his first eight starts, the right-hander has finished at least six scoreless innings, but he's surrendered 18 runs in his other three appearances, including a season-high eight last time out versus Boston. Gausman is currently sporting a 3.38 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a stellar 67:7 K:BB through 48 innings, but he's certainly capable of a clunker once in a while.
May 4, 2023
Awful in loss
Gausman (2-3) allowed eight runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out four over 3.1 innings, taking the loss Thursday versus the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's biggest problems were in the second inning as the Red Sox rallied for a five-run frame. It's been all or nothing for Gausman over his last four starts -- two of them were seven scoreless innings each, and the other two in that span saw him fail to complete five frames. The right-hander now has a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 58:7 K:BB through 42 innings over seven starts. He's projected for a road start in Philadelphia next week.
Apr 30, 2023
Dominates M's with 13 Ks
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Mariners, allowing six hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings while striking out a season-high 13.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander delivered another dominant performance along with his fifth quality start in six outings this season, but Gausman found himself locked in an unlikely pitchers' duel with unheralded rookie Easton McGee, who was making his first career big-league start. Gausman has double-digit punchouts in three of his last four trips to the mound, and he'll take a 2.33 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 54:6 K:BB through 38.2 innings into his next start, likely to come next week in Boston.
Apr 23, 2023
Dominant in the Bronx
Gausman (2-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing just three hits over seven scoreless innings against the Yankees. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
It was quite a bounce-back outing from Gausman, stymying a powerful Yankees lineup after he allowed seven earned runs in his last start in Houston. He matched a season-high with 11 strikeouts while recording his second scoreless outing through five starts to begin the year. Gausman lowers his ERA to 2.84 with a 1.01 WHIP and a league-leading 41 strikeouts.
Apr 18, 2023
Struggles early against Houston
Gausman (1-2) took the loss Monday, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and two walks over 4.2 innings in a 9-2 loss against Houston. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Gausman served up two-run doubles to Jose Abreu and Corey Julks before Jake Meyers crushed a three-run homer to give Houston a 7-0 lead in the first inning. The veteran right-hander was able to get out of the inning, but he dug Toronto too big of a hole, as Houston cruised to victory behind Cristian Javier. After allowing just three runs and posting a 25:3 K:BB over his first three outings, Gausman struggled mightily Monday, but he'll look to get back on track during his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for the Blue Jays' upcoming three-game road set versus the Yankees.
Apr 13, 2023
Fans 11 in no-decision
Gausman did not factor in the decision on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits over eight innings in the extra-inning victory over the Tigers. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Despite giving up two home runs, the 32-year-old had an impressive outing striking out 11 batters-- all via the splitter. Gausman's performance kept the Blue Jays in the game as their offense struggled until they mounted a comeback in the ninth inning. The right-hander avoided the loss when an Alejandro Kirk sacrifice fly tied the game in the ninth, setting up a walkoff single by George Springer in the tenth. Gausman has been dominant to start the season, owning a 1.35 ERA and 25:3 K:BB over 20 innings.
Apr 6, 2023
Dominates Royals
Gausman (1-1) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out seven across six shutout innings to earn the win Thursday against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed only one hit through six innings and was ultimately pulled after allowing the first two batters of the seventh inning to reach base. He took advantage of pitcher-friendly Kauffman Field by piling up seven flyball outs without allowing an extra-base knock. Gausman has not surrendered an earned run across his first two outings -- spanning 12 innings -- while also maintaining an impressive 14:3 K:BB in that span.
Apr 1, 2023
Stuck with tough loss
Gausman (0-1) took the loss Saturday as the Blue Jays fell 4-1 to the Cardinals, giving up three runs (all unearned) on eight hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
A Matt Chapman throwing error prevented Gausman from escaping the third inning and led to three St. Louis runs, but otherwise the veteran right-hander kept the Cards in check, firing 64 of 90 pitches for strikes. Gausman has topped 200 strikeouts in each of the last two seasons, and barring injury he should be in that range again. His next start currently lines up to come Thursday in Kansas City.
Mar 25, 2023
Not dealing with injury
Gausman is not dealing with an injury and will pitch in a minor-league game Sunday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was originally scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Tigers, but it looks like the Blue Jays simply altered their plans. He could pitch in a Grapefruit League game against the Yankees on Sunday, but he'll face minor-leaguers instead to give the Yankees' big-league bats fewer reps against him.
Mar 25, 2023
Not starting Saturday
Gausman was scratched from his scheduled spring start Saturday against the Tigers for undisclosed reasons, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sem Robberse will start the game in Gausman's place. It's possible this was nothing more than a change of plans from the Blue Jays, as there have yet to be reports that Gausman is dealing with any sort of injury, but it's at minimum something to monitor.
Mar 16, 2023
Dominates Bucs on Wednesday
Gausman allowed two hits and two walks over 3.1 scoreless innings while striking out seven in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The veteran righty fired 43 of 65 pitches for strikes as he continues to gear up ahead of Opening Day. Gausman has yet to give up an earned run this spring while posting a 12:3 K:BB through 8.2 innings, and the tweaks he made this offseason to his mechanics to avoid running afoul of MLB's balk crackdown don't seem to have impacted his performance at all.
Mar 10, 2023
Shuts down Atlanta
Gausman gave up two hits and struck out two over 3.2 scoreless innings in Thursday's split-squad game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The veteran righty was efficient, tossing 32 of 48 pitches for strikes against a lineup of bench players and minor leaguers. Gausman hadn't seemed to have much trouble adjusting his mechanics in response to MLB's new balk crackdown, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings over two spring starts with a 5:1 K:BB as he builds up ahead of Opening Day.
Mar 4, 2023
Fans three in first spring action
Gausman gave up an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out three over 1.2 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Two pitchers were charged with balks during the game but neither one was Gausman, so the veteran righty's first start of the spring should be considered a rousing success. His windup was one of the ones singled out by MLB when they announced a new focus on cracking down on balks this offseason, so Gausman has made it a priority to come to a complete stop on the rubber before delivering the ball. If he's able to make the necessary adjustments, there's little reason to think the 32-year-old won't produce another strong campaign after posting a 3.07 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 and dazzling 1.9 BB/9 in 64 starts between the Giants and Jays over the last two seasons.
Mar 3, 2023
Making first spring start
Gausman will make his Grapefruit League debut Friday against the Rays, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman has been healthy all camp but, with MLB's impending crackdown on balks, has been working on eliminating the heel tap in his delivery from the stretch. Evidently, he's happy with where he's at in that regard and is ready to test things out in game action.

Focused on mechanical tweaks
Gausman is working on eliminating the heel tap in his delivery from the stretch to avoid running afoul of MLB's new crackdowns on balks, Gregor Chisholm of The Toronto Star reports.
ANALYSIS
As part of the introduction of a pitch clock, the league has instructed umpires to make sure pitchers come to a complete stop before beginning their delivery, something Gausman hasn't really been doing for many years now. In fact, his delivery was used as an example of what not to allow in the video MLB released explaining the changes. The veteran right-hander doesn't seem concerned about the adjustment, however. "It's something that I will have to change, and the good thing is I have six weeks to mess with my delivery and figure out what's going to be new and comfortable to me," Gausman said Thursday. The 32-year-old took a step back statistically in 2022 thanks in part to an elevated .363 BABIP, but he still had a successful first season with Toronto that included a career-best 3.9 percent walk rate and 15.9 percent swinging strike rate.

Starting Game 2 against Seattle
Gausman (finger) will start Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Mariners on Saturday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The Blue Jays' season will be riding on Gausman after they were shut out by the duo of Luis Castillo and Andres Munoz in the series opener. Gausman left his final start of regular season last Sunday after three innings with a laceration on his right middle finger, but he made it through Thursday's bullpen session unscathed. The right-hander finished with a 3.90 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 99:10 K:BB in 14 starts after the All-Star break.
Oct 6, 2022
Throwing bullpen session
Gausman (finger) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander exited his final start of the regular season Sunday due to a laceration on his middle finger, and the bullpen session will help determine whether he'll be available to start during the AL Wild Card Series versus the Mariners. The Blue Jays have been encouraged by Gausman's recovery thus far, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, and he's the leading candidate to start Saturday in Game 2, assuming he checks out fine after throwing Thursday.

Departs with finger issue
Gausman was removed from Sunday's start against the Red Sox due to a laceration on his right middle finger, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed two runs on four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks across three frames before he exited with the injury. The right-hander won't factor in the decision for his final outing of the regular season and will finish with a 12-10 record in 30 starts. The finger issue is unlikely to be a serious concern, and it's unclear if the injury will affect his availability for the wild-card round, which begins Thursday.

Fans seven in quality start
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Yankees, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander delivered his second straight quality start and 17th of the season on 94 pitches (68 strikes) in another impressive performance. Gausman's impeccable control remains his strongest asset -- he's walked multiple batters only once in 13 outings since the All-Star break, posting a 3.82 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 95:10 K:BB through 77.2 innings over that stretch.
Sep 21, 2022
Blanks Phillies over six
Gausman tossed six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out eight in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was back in full command, blanking the Phillies over six frames while striking out at least eight batters for the third times in his last five starts. He came into the contest having surrendered 10 runs over 12.1 innings in his last two outings, returning to form Wednesday. The 31-year-old has been up and down since the beginning of August, producing six quality starts while allowing four or more runs in each of his other four outings over that span. Gausman now owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 194 strikeouts over 165.1 innings in 29 starts this year.
Sep 16, 2022
Allows five earned runs
Gausman (12-10) allowed five earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven across seven innings to take the loss Thursday against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed a pair of home runs, including a three-run shot to Yandy Diaz in the second inning. The long ball has become a significant problem for Gausman across his last four starts, during which he has served up seven home runs. In those same 25 innings, he has a 5.04 ERA, despite a 31:3 K:BB. For the season, Gausman still owns a 3.45 ERA across 159.1 frames.
Sep 11, 2022
Records win despite five runs
Gausman (12-9) earned the win Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against the Rangers. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
Gausman surrendered a three-run homer to Adolis Garcia with one out in the first and a two-run homer to catcher Sam Huff with one out in the sixth. The righty has been inconsistent in his last nine games, two runs or less in five starts and four runs or more in four starts. The 31-year-old is turning in a fascinating season with an outstanding career-best 2.28 FIP but allowing an extremely high .371 BABIP.
Sep 6, 2022
Sharp in 11th win
Gausman (11-9) picked up the win in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Orioles, allowing two runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
Anthony Santander took him deep in the first inning, but Gausman settled in after that and for the next four frames blanked the team that selected him fourth overall in the 2012 draft. The right-hander has delivered five quality starts in seven outings since the beginning of August, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 48:4 K:BB through 43.1 innings over that stretch.
Aug 31, 2022
Fans nine in win No. 10
Gausman (10-9) picked up the win in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over the Cubs, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was sharp, generating 17 swinging strikes among his 96 pitches en route to his fourth quality start in six August trips to the mound. Gausman wraps up the month with a 2.70 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and dazzling 42:4 K:BB through 36.2 innings as he continues to be worth every penny of the $110 million contract he signed with the Blue Jays over the winter.
Aug 26, 2022
Tough start in Boston
Gausman did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on nine hits over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Gausman fell victim to small ball as he allowed only one extra-base hit in the form of an RBI double from third baseman Rafael Devers. The righty has a pedestrian 3.57 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 35.1 innings in his last six starts; however, the 31-year-old has been extremely inconsistent during that span with three outings allowing four runs or more and three allowing zero runs.
Aug 20, 2022
Blanks Yanks for ninth win
Gausman (9-9) picked up the win Friday, allowing four hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings in a 4-0 victory over the Yankees. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander was dominant, retiring 10 straight batters after New York got two on with two outs in the first inning and not letting another runner get into scoring position the rest of the night. Gausman fired 58 of 86 pitches for strikes before exiting with his third quality start in four August trips to the mound, a month is which he's sporting a 1.75 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 27:3 K:BB through 25.2 innings.
Aug 14, 2022
Gives up five runs in defeat
Gausman (8-9) allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.2 innings to take the loss during Sunday's matchup against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Gausman tossed 14 scoreless innings over his two starts ahead of Sunday's outing, but he struggled mightily against Cleveland. He gave up runs in the first, second and fourth innings and was ultimately pulled after allowing two more runs in the top of the fifth. Gausman certainly showcased his dominance over his first two starts in August, but he's posted a lackluster 4.13 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 28.1 innings over five starts following the All-Star break. The right-hander projects to make his next start on the road against the Yankees on Friday.
Aug 7, 2022
Efficient in quality start
Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing zero runs on six hits and zero walks over six innings in a 3-2 win over the Twins. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old righty was sharp on Sunday, getting through six innings in just 84 pitches en route to the quality start. Gausman was around the strike zone all night as he did not walk a single batter, which has been key to his success all season. He has walked more than three batters just once the entire season. Gausman looks to keep up the momentum in his next scheduled start against the Guardians.
Aug 2, 2022
Shines in victory
Gausman (8-8) earned the win Tuesday in Tampa Bay, striking out 10 in eight scoreless innings while allowing a hit, a walk and a hit batsman.
ANALYSIS
Gausman held Tampa Bay hitless through the first five innings, retiring 14 in a row at one point. The lone single he allowed was quickly erased on a double-play groundball. After giving up eight runs in his last 9.2 innings, Tuesday's start was arguably his best outing as a Blue Jay. He continues to dominate on the road and has a 2.02 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 69:10 K:BB in 58 innings outside of Canada.
Jul 27, 2022
Tagged for five runs
Gausman (7-8) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Gausman had little trouble with the Cardinals the first time through the order, but he struggled the second time around and was ultimately chased with two on in the fifth inning. Trevor Richards then allowed a three-run home run to Albert Pujols, which put two more runs on Gausman's ledger in his fourth start of less than five innings this year. The right-hander has only given up five earned runs twice in 19 starts, and he has a 3.30 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 122:19 K:BB in 103.2 innings overall. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, tentatively scheduled as a road matchup with the Rays next week.
Jul 23, 2022
Punches out 10 in win
Gausman (7-7) allowed three runs on seven hits over five innings Friday, striking out 10 and earning a win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Gausman fired three shutout frames before coughing up two home runs in the fourth, including a two-run shot by Jackie Bradley. It was the first time all year he'd allowed more than one home run in an outing and he's now served up five through 18 starts. Since an ugly, 2.1-inning start against Baltimore on June 16, Gausman has posted a 2.42 ERA and a 36:7 K:BB through five outings. The 31-year-old will carry a 3.00 ERA into his projected home start against Detroit next week.
Jul 15, 2022
Fans six in return
Gausman (6-7) took the loss Thursday against Kansas City, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Both runs against Gausman came in the fifth inning when he allowed a run-scoring single and a solo homer. Otherwise, he was effective in his return to the mound after missing one start but avoiding the injured list, due to an ankle injury. The fifth-inning homer by Bobby Witt was just the third homer Gausman has allowed in 94 innings this season. He'll enter the All-Star break with an excellent 2.87 ERA and 106:18 K:BB through 17 starts.

Declares self ready for Thursday
Gausman (ankle) confirmed that he's in line to start Thursday's game against the Royals in Toronto, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports. "I'm ready to go," Gausman said.
ANALYSIS
Gausman hasn't pitched since exiting his July 2 start against the Rays with a bruised right ankle and has had his return date pushed back a few times after the injury lingered longer than anticipated, but he'll avoid a trip to the injured list and make one more turn before the All-Star break. The 31-year-old came out of Tuesday's bullpen session feeling fine and seems unlikely to face any major restrictions in his return to the Toronto rotation. He's supplied a 2.86 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 88 innings through his first 16 starts with the Blue Jays.
Jul 12, 2022
May be ready to pitch Thursday
Gausman (ankle) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and could be an option to start Thursday's home game against the Royals, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman hasn't pitched since exiting his July 2 start against the Rays after suffering a bruised right ankle when he was struck by a comebacker, but the Blue Jays continue to delay any potential move to the injured list. The team is seemingly hopeful that he'll be ready to return to the rotation for their final series before the All-Star break, but a decision on his status might not be made until the Blue Jays get a chance to re-evaluate him Wednesday. If Gausman isn't ready to pitch against Kansas City, rookie Max Castillo would likely receive another turn through Toronto's rotation.
Jul 12, 2022
Won't pitch Tuesday
Gausman (ankle) won't be available to start Tuesday's game against the Phillies, as the Blue Jays have announced Jose Berrios as their starter for the series opener, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After Gausman completed a bullpen session Friday, he was viewed as an option to start Sunday's series finale in Seattle, but the Blue Jays evidently determined he wasn't ready to go for that contest, with Max Castillo getting the starting nod in his stead. Even after a team off day Monday, Gausman apparently hasn't completed moved past the right ankle injury, so the Blue Jays will push back his return at least one more day. The Blue Jays still appear to be leaving the door open for Gausman to start Wednesday against the Phillies, but he'll miss out on a two-start week with Berrios taking the hill Tuesday.
Jul 9, 2022
Won't start Sunday
Gausman (ankle) will not start Sunday's game at Seattle, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman threw a bullpen session Friday but isn't feeling well enough to return to the mound. The team is hoping he'll be able to start Tuesday against the Phillies, though that is not yet confirmed. Max Castillo is an option to start Sunday's game against the Mariners, but manager Charlie Montoyo has announced that it will be a bullpen game.
Jul 8, 2022
Throws bullpen Friday
Gausman (ankle) threw a bullpen session Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman threw on flat ground Thursday, and Friday's throwing session marked the first time he worked off a mound since sustaining his ankle injury last weekend. Manager Charlie Montoyo didn't rule the right-hander out for Sunday's start against Seattle, but it's possible that he'll ultimately start Tuesday against the Phillies.
Jul 7, 2022
Status still uncertain
Gausman (ankle) threw on flat ground Thursday and is scheduled for a bullpen session Friday to determine when he will make his next start, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman underwent a follow-up MRI on Thursday, which confirmed that he had a bone bruise in his ankle rather than a fracture. While that's good news, his status for a potential start Sunday at Seattle is uncertain. If he is unable to take the mound Sunday, Max Castillo is the likeliest candidate to start, with Gausman then tentatively slotting into Tuesday's matchup against the Phillies.
Jul 6, 2022
Won't be ready for Thursday
Gausman (ankle) is unlikely to be ready to start Thursday's series opener with the Mariners, though he hasn't been ruled out from pitching in any of the final three games in Seattle, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's inability to throw a bullpen session Tuesday likely closed the door on him starting Thursday, but he hasn't been shut down entirely, as he's expected to play catch Wednesday. The Blue Jays will evaluate Gausman during the workout before potentially allowing him to throw off a mound Thursday or Friday, which would keep him in the mix to start Sunday's series finale. Casey Lawrence was called up from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, and if he's not needed in relief in the Blue Jays' series finale in Oakland, he would likely represent the top candidate to fill in for Gausman on Thursday, according to Mike Wilner of the Toronto Star.
Jul 5, 2022
Unable to throw bullpen Tuesday
Gausman (ankle) played catch Tuesday instead of throwing his usual between starts bullpen session, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander lines up for his next turn through the rotation Thursday in Seattle, but it appears the ankle injury he suffered during Saturday's outing may affect his availability for this week. Gausman has yet to be ruled out for Thursday's start, but he's likely trending in the wrong direction. Casey Lawrence could be called up to pitch should Gausman be unavailable.
Jul 4, 2022
Still feeling soreness
Gausman is still having trouble pushing off his injured right ankle, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman is still dinged up after being struck by a line drive Saturday, and it's not yet known if he will be ready to make his next scheduled start. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, and it seems likely another update on his status will come after that.
Jul 2, 2022
X-rays negative
Gausman left the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays with a right ankle contusion, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
X-rays were negative, so Blue Jays fans and fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief. Gausman went down and stayed down for several minutes after taking a comebacker off his ankle in the second inning of Saturday's matinee. It's still possible he could miss a start or end up on the injured list, but it does not sound like Gausman is in line for an extended absence.
Jul 2, 2022
Exits with injury
Gausman exited the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays after being hit in the ankle by a comebacker in the top of the second inning, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three in two scoreless innings to begin Saturday's matinee, but he was hit by a comebacker in the top of the second inning. He remained down for several minutes but was ultimately able to walk off the field under his own power. The right-hander will presumably undergo further testing before the Blue Jays determine whether he'll need to miss additional time.
Jun 28, 2022
Fires gem against Red Sox
Gausman (6-6) yielded four hits and two walks over seven shutout innings Monday, striking out 10 and earning a win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed just one extra-base hit -- a double by Rafael Devers -- and rarely faced much trouble in Monday's dominant performance. It was his first scoreless outing since May 24 and his second of the year with double-digit punchouts. In three starts against the Red Sox this season, Gausman is 2-0 with a terrific 27:2 K:BB while giving up just one run over 21 innings. The 31-year-old will carry a 2.93 ERA into his projected home matchup with the Rays this weekend.
Jun 22, 2022
Seven strikeouts in no-decision
Gausman struck out seven in six innings while allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks. He did not factor into the decision in a 7-6 loss Tuesday against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
After retiring the side in order in the first, Gausman gave up back-to-back doubles in the second to allow a run. In the fifth, he gave up another run-scoring double and he left the game in a position to take the loss. The 31-year-old has struggled to keep opponents off base recently, allowing 43 baserunners in his last 23 innings. His next start will likely be early next week against Boston.
Jun 17, 2022
Roughed up by Orioles
Gausman (5-6) allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out three across 2.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Gausman kept the ball in the yard but allowed five of the first six batters he faced in the third inning to reach base to derail his appearance. It was the second time in three starts that he's failed to work at least four innings, and he's surrendered nine earned runs across 12 frames in that span. Despite the recent stretch, Gausman still owns a 3.21 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 13 starts this season.
Jun 12, 2022
Two runs allowed in loss
Gausman (5-5) took the loss against the Tigers on Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking three.
ANALYSIS
Gausman pitched well enough to earn the win Saturday, picking up a quality start, but did not get enough run support from his offense and ended up with the loss. The righty allowed more than one walk in a game for just the second time this season. Gausman allowed just one earned run in the game and lowered his ERA to 2.67. The veteran has been dominant for the Jays this season and that should continue in his next appearance.
Jun 5, 2022
Coughs up five runs
Gausman (5-4) yielded five runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk over 3.2 innings, striking out three and taking a loss against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
All five runs allowed by Gausman came during the first two innings, including three in the first. He's now given up three earned runs in each of his last two starts, raising his season ERA to 2.84 with an impressive 73:7 K:BB through 11 starts. The 31-year-old is 2-3 with a 3.71 ERA over his last five outings. Gausman is expected to start in Detroit next week.
Jun 1, 2022
Collects fifth win
Gausman (5-3) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings in a 6-5 victory over the White Sox. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander left the game after 98 pitches (67 strikes with the Blue Jays down 3-2, but a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth put Gausman back in the win column. He's proving his 2021 breakout with San Francisco was no fluke, posting a 2.51 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 70:6 K:BB through 61 innings this season.
May 25, 2022
Blanks Cards for fourth win
Gausman (4-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 8-1 victory over the Cardinals, scattering four hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
After uncharacteristically issuing two free passes in the first inning, Gausman knuckled down and pounded the zone, firing 74 of 105 pitches for strikes before exiting, and St. Louis never got a runner past second base. The right-hander has been worth every penny for the Blue Jays so far after signing a $110 million deal in the offseason, providing six quality starts in nine trips to the mound with a 2.25 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 65:5 K:BB through his first 56 innings with Toronto.
May 19, 2022
Yields two runs in loss
Gausman (3-3) took the loss against Seattle on Wednesday, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
ANALYSIS
Gausman didn't have his usual swing-and-miss stuff against the Mariners in the outing, as he notched a season-low three strikeouts and registered only seven swinging strikes. However, he limited Seattle to two runs and allowed just one extra-base hit -- a fifth-inning homer by Cal Raleigh that was the deciding factor in tagging Gausman with the loss. The right-hander will carry a 2.52 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 57:3 K:BB into his next start, which is slated to come in St. Louis next week.
May 14, 2022
Fans eight in Friday's loss
Gausman (3-2) took the loss Friday as the Blue Jays were downed 5-2 by the Rays, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over seven-plus innings. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander headed into the eighth inning with the score tied 2-2, but manager Charlie Montoyo's decision to try and squeeze a few more outs from Gausman backfired when he gave up three straight hits to start the frame. He still wound up recording his fifth straight quality start, and Gausman will take a 2.40 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and stunning 54:2 K:BB through 45 innings into his next outing.
May 8, 2022
Sharp in third win
Gausman (3-1) picked up the win in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Guardians, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander fired 69 of 104 pitches for strikes in delivering his fourth straight quality start and winning his third straight decision. About the only blemish on Gausman's line was a fourth-inning free pass to Franmil Reyes that was not only his first of the season, it marked the first time he'd gone to a 3-0 count against a batter. Gausman is proving that his 2021 breakout was no fluke, posting a 2.13 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and career-best 33.6 percent strikeout rate through 38 innings.
May 6, 2022
Friday's start postponed
Gausman and the Blue Jays won't play Friday against the Guardians after the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
ANALYSIS
Since Friday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Saturday, Gausman will presumably line up to start one of the games in the twin bill. The right-hander is off to a hot start in 2022, as he has a 2.27 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 41 strikeouts and no walks in 31.2 innings over his first five starts.
May 1, 2022
Strikes out 10 in win
Gausman (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out 10 in seven innings to earn the win over the Astros on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gausman had allowed two runs (one earned) in 14 innings over his two starts leading up to Sunday's matchup, and he tossed five scoreless innings to begin the game against Houston. Although the right-hander faltered slightly in the sixth and seventh innings, he struck out a season-high 10 batters and earned his second win in his last three outings. Gausman threw 71 of 98 pitches for strikes and has a 2.27 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 31.2 innings over his first five starts in 2022. He projects to make his next start on the road against Cleveland on Friday.
Apr 27, 2022
Fans nine in no-decision
Gausman didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Red Sox, allowing one unearned run on four hits over six innings. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander dazzled once again, tossing 62 of 88 pitches for strikes while generating 19 swinging strikes, and Gausman exited the game in line for his second win of the season before the Toronto bullpen made things interesting. Incredibly, Gausman hasn't walked a batter or served up a homer through his first four starts as a Blue Jay, amassing a 31:0 K:BB through 24.2 innings to fuel his 2.19 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.
Apr 21, 2022
Stellar performance in win
Gausman (1-1) earned the win after allowing one run on seven hits across eight innings during Thursday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox. He struck out eight and didn't record a walk.
ANALYSIS
Gausman scattered six hits through eight scoreless innings, but Trevor Story smacked the first pitch of the ninth inning into right field for a single, which ended Gausman's afternoon. Story came around to score on a Xander Bogaerts double off Jordan Romano, but the Blue Jays closer was able to thwart the comeback and earned the save. Through three appearances with his new squad, Gausman sports a 2.89 ERA across 18.2 innings with a ridiculous 22:0 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 26 in a rematch against the Red Sox in Toronto.
Apr 15, 2022
Nine strikeouts in loss
Gausman (0-1) struck out nine in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits in a 3-0 loss Thursday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Gausman dominated the first seven hitters in the potent Yankees' lineup but could not stop Isiah Kiner-Falefa or Jose Trevino, as they accounted for both runs and went a combined 4-for-4 against the righty. The 2021 All-Star has yet to walk a batter or allow a home run in his first two starts for Toronto but has also not yet recorded a win. His next start will likely be next Thursday in Boston.
Apr 9, 2022
Yields three runs in Toronto debut
Gausman tossed five innings against Texas on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's final pitching line wasn't earth-shattering, but the veteran right-hander was solid in his first start as a Blue Jay. Of the eight hits he allowed, only one -- a third-inning double off the bat of Marcus Semien -- went for extra bases, and Gausman induced 17 swings-and-misses while throwing 57 of 80 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old's second start of the season is expected to come in New York against the Yankees next week.
Apr 4, 2022
Throws approximately 80 pitches
Gausman threw in the bullpen following Monday's Grapefruit League start and ultimately threw about 80 pitches between the two sessions, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out three in six innings against the Tigers on Monday, reaching 68 pitches in the start. Monday's appearance was his lone spring start this year, but he appears to be built up nicely and expects to be ready to throw between 95 and 100 pitches during his first regular-season start. Jose Berrios has been named Toronto's Opening Day starter, so Gausman lines up to make his 2022 debut at home against the Rangers on Saturday.

Starting team's second game
Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said Thursday that Gausman is tentatively in line to start the team's second game of the season April 9 against the Rangers in Toronto, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was bypassed for the Opening Day nod in favor of Jose Berrios, but that's most likely a result of the latter having more seniority in the organization. Among the five projected members of Toronto's Opening Day rotation, Gausman was the top performer in 2021, when he compiled a 2.81 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 227 strikeouts across 192 innings with the Giants. Gausman cashed in on the career-best season by signing a five-year, $110 million deal with Toronto in November, with his big payday indicating the Blue Jays view him as a front-of-the-rotation arm.
Nov 28, 2021
Signs with Blue Jays
Gausman signed a five-year, $110 million contract with the Blue Jays on Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman drew interest from several teams during free agency, but he'll land with the Blue Jays, who had expressed interest in the 30-year-old's services for several years. The right-hander made 33 starts for the Giants during the 2021 campaign and posted a career-best 2.81 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 192 innings.

Drops Game 2 of NLDS
Gausman (0-1) took the loss to the Dodgers on Saturday in Game 2 of the NLDS, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 NL Cy Young candidate wasn't quite at his best; Gausman allowed an RBI single to the opposing starting pitcher, Julio Urias, in the second inning. He allowed two of the first three batters he faced in the sixth inning to reach and both would ultimately come around to score after Gausman exited the game. Gausman has experience pitching in relief, but the Giants will likely want to reserve their ace for Game 5, or Game 1 of the NLCS.
Oct 6, 2021
Slated to take mound in Game 2
Gausman will start Game 2 of the NLDS on Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman turned in two strong starts to close out the regular season and recorded a 1.38 ERA and 0.77 WHIP in 13 innings during that time. The right-hander will have a full week of rest ahead of Saturday's appearance.
Oct 2, 2021
Tosses quality start Saturday
Gausman allowed one run on six hits and one walk Saturday in a no-decision against San Diego. He also had five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander put together his second straight quality start, holding the Padres to a Manny Machado RBI single in the sixth inning. Gausman will go into the postseason having allowed just two runs in 13 innings over his last two starts while striking out 16 against just one walk.
Sep 26, 2021
Whiffs 11 over six innings
Gausman allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out 11 across six innings in the win over the Rockies on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman surrendered a solo home run to C.J. Cron in the fifth inning. He didn't allow any further damage as he struck out double-digit batters for the fourth time this season. The 30-year-old has a 2.87 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 222 strikeouts, good for sixth-most in all of baseball. His last start of the regular season is scheduled for Saturday against the Padres.
Sep 22, 2021
Chased early by Pads
Gausman got a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 win against San Diego, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
Making a second straight start against San Diego, Gausman permitted four runs yet again while surrendering an identical nine baserunners. The 30-year-old allowed runs in three different innings and failed to eclipse three strikeouts for the second time in six turns. Gausman has struggled in five September starts despite a 2-1 record, pitching to a 5.33 ERA and allowing multiple runs in every start. He'll look to turn things around on Sunday in Colorado.
Sep 16, 2021
Takes sixth loss
Gausman (14-6) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven across five innings to take the loss Thursday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Gausman surrendered at least one run in three different innings, leading to the disappointing outing. As a result, he was charged with his first loss since July 30. In his last 10 starts, Gausman has a 4.08 ERA across 53 innings, though he's still provided value by racking up 68 strikeouts and earning five wins in that span. On the season, Gausman has maintained a 2.78 ERA with a 208:49 K:BB across 175 frames.
Sep 11, 2021
Picks up quality start
Gausman (14-5) allowed three runs on eight hits and no walks with nine strikeouts through six innings, picking up the win in Saturday's 15-4 victory over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was rock solid yet again Saturday, as he yielded three runs in his first three innings but settled in over the next three to pick up the quality start. While the eight hits might strike the eye as a sizable number, half of them didn't leave the infield. The right-hander has now allowed three or fewer earned runs in nine straight starts and has won his last five decisions. He figures to pitch next Thursday against the Padres.
Sep 6, 2021
Logs another quality start
Gausman (13-5) picked up a win after tossing seven innings of three-run ball while giving up five hits, walking one and striking out nine against the Rockies on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old was effective in this one while limiting the Rockies to only three runs at the particularly challenging to pitch at Coors Field. Ryan McMahon and Garrett Hampson each hit solo home runs off the veteran and Charlie Blackmon tripled in the other run charged to him in the start. Gausman has now rattled off eight consecutive starts where he has surrendered three or less runs, picking up four wins along the way. He is expected to start next on Saturday in Chicago against the Cubs.
Sep 2, 2021
Fans seven across five frames
Gausman didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Brewers after tossing five innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while fanning seven.
ANALYSIS
Gausman gave up a two-run single to Lorenzo Cain in the second inning, but he was excellent the rest of the way. While he finished three outs away from posting another quality start, it's worth noting that Gausman has given up three or fewer runs in each of his last seven appearances while pitching at least five frames in five of those contests. He owns a career-best 2.52 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 157 innings on the season.
Aug 27, 2021
Quality start in no-decision
Gausman allowed two runs on six hits and struck out two over six innings versus Atlanta on Friday. He walked none and he did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman spent a few days on the COVID-19 injured list with vaccine side effects, but he seemed to be feeling just fine while throwing 62 of his 91 pitches for strikes. This was Gausman's first quality start since Aug. 4, as he failed to meet the six-inning requirement in each of his last three outings. The right-hander has a 2.49 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 176:46 K:BB through 152 innings this season. He lines up for another challenging matchup versus Milwaukee next week.
Aug 27, 2021
Activated, starting Friday
Gausman is starting Friday's game against Atlanta after being activated from the COVID-19 list, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was placed on the COVID-19 list Tuesday because of vaccine side effects, but there was never really a doubt that he would be able to make his scheduled start Friday. With him back on the active roster, Chadwick Tromp was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
Aug 24, 2021
Dealing with vaccine side-effects
Gausman was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday due to side-effects of the vaccine, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The righty ace is unlikely to miss an outing, with his next scheduled starting being Friday in Atlanta. Details about Gausman's condition and whether he'll require more than a few days to overcome the side-effects should become clear by Friday.
Aug 22, 2021
Struggles versus rival A's
Gausman allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus Oakland on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It was another unconvincing start for Gausman, as a costly first-inning error by Wilmer Flores ultimately allowed three unearned runs to score. Gausman also gave up a run on a wild pitch in the fourth prior to Jarlin Garcia relieving him. Through 146 innings, Gausman has posted a 2.47 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 174:46 K:BB across 25 starts, but he's given up 22 runs (18 earned) in his last 31.1 innings since the All-Star break. He'll look to get back on track in a tough road matchup in Atlanta during next weekend's three-game series.
Aug 17, 2021
Third straight win
Gausman (12-5) won Monday's 7-5 victory over the Mets, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman got the win Monday despite not having his typical dominant stuff, allowing all three New York runs on three baserunners in the fifth inning. The first-time All-Star has rebounded from a poor July with three straight wins to open August, featuring 20 strikeouts in 16 innings with only five runs allowed.
Aug 12, 2021
Collects 11th win
Gausman (11-5) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings, earning the win over Arizona on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander has won consecutive starts over Arizona, although he walked four or more batters for the fourth time in 23 starts Wednesday. Gausman has a 2.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 162:43 K:BB through 137.1 innings this season. He lines up for another home start versus the Mets next week.
Aug 8, 2021
Back from paternity leave
The Giants reinstated Gausman (personal) from the paternity list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After leaving the team following his six-inning start Wednesday in Arizona, Gausman missed the maximum three days before the Giants added him back to the active roster. Gausman didn't miss a turn through the rotation while he welcomed his second daughter into the world, and he'll remain on track to start Tuesday's series opener versus the Diamondbacks in San Francisco.
Aug 5, 2021
Officially placed on paternity list
Gausman was placed on the paternity list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's placement on the paternity list was expected following Wednesday's start in which he allowed an earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight in six innings to return to the win column for the first time since July 11. The 30-year-old will be away from the team for several days but should be ready for his next outing, and he tentatively lines up to start at home against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Aug 5, 2021
Stymies Snakes in winning effort
Gausman improved to 10-5 on the season Wednesday after limiting the Diamondbacks to one run on five hits and no walks while striking out eight over six innings in the Giants' 7-1 win. San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler said after the game that Gausman will be placed on the paternity list Thursday while he and his wife await the birth of his second daughter, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After posting an 8.49 ERA and 2.23 WHIP in his first three starts out of the All-Star break, Gausman finally got back on track against the hapless Diamondbacks. With his wife due to give birth Friday, Gausman appears unlikely to make the trip to Milwaukee this weekend for the Giants' three-game series with the Brewers. That said, he should be ready to go when his next turn in the rotation comes up Tuesday or Wednesday, when he'll face the Diamondbacks once again.
Jul 31, 2021
Struggles persist Friday
Gausman (9-5) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in 4.1 innings, taking the loss versus Houston on Friday.
ANALYSIS
In three starts since the All-Star break, Gausman has given up a stunning 11 runs across 11.2 innings. He had given up 11 runs across his last six starts before the break. The right-hander owns a 2.35 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 149:39 K:BB across 126.1 innings. It's possible his recent struggles are just regression after an incredible first half -- he's limited opponents to a .234 BABIP this year while stranding 80.6 percent of runners. He'll look to get back on track in an enticing matchup versus Arizona next week.
Jul 25, 2021
Uncharacteristic start in loss
Gausman (9-4) allowed six earned runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two across 4.1 innings, taking the loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Gausman had his worst start of the season in a favorable home matchup against a weak Pirates team. He allowed a season-high eight hits, six earned runs and a season-low two strikeouts. The 30-year-old has struggled lately for his standards with a 4.97 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over his last five starts. On the season, he still has a 2.21 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP with a 10.3 K/9 in 122 innings.
Jul 20, 2021
Shaky performance Monday
Gausman allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over three innings Monday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers worked Gausman to throw 80 pitches over three innings in what was his shortest outing since September of 2019. He started off very rocky by allowing back-to-back solo home runs to Max Muncy and Justin Turner in the first inning and would end up hitting and walking a batter before finally getting out of the frame. The 30-year-old righty has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the game this year but just didn't have his best stuff with him Monday evening, as he was missing spots and bouncing in too many off-speed pitches. He's allowed three runs or fewer in 18 of his 19 starts this season which has led to a 1.84 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 138:33 K:BB over 117.2 innings. Gausman currently lines up for an enticing matchup against the Pirates over the weekend.
Jul 19, 2021
Ready to go
Gausman (personal) returned to the team as expected Monday and was activated off the Family Medical Emergency List ahead of his scheduled start against the Dodgers, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's first start of the second half was delayed so that he could be with his wife in the hospital, but he's ready to pitch again now. The Giants will certainly be happy to have him on the hill against the rival Dodgers, who trail them by one game in the standings. Gausman looked like an ace in the first half, riding a 30.5 percent strikeout rate and 6.9 percent walk rate to a 1.73 ERA in 18 starts.
Jul 18, 2021
Returning Monday
Gausman (personal) will start Monday's game against the Dodgers, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was initially slated to start Friday's game against St. Louis, but he was placed on the Family Medical Emergency list and missed the team's weekend series. However, the right-hander will be activated ahead of Monday's series opener against the Dodgers.
Jul 17, 2021
Could start Monday
Gausman (personal) could start Monday against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman missed his scheduled start Friday against the Cardinals to be with his wife in the hospital. She's scheduled to be discharged Sunday, so Gausman could be back on the mound the next day.
Jul 16, 2021
No longer starting Friday
Gausman will not start Friday against the Cardinals after being placed on the bereavement list, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman will miss at least the next three games, meaning he won't pitch until Monday against the Dodgers at the earliest. Logan Webb will be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start in his place Friday.
Jul 11, 2021
Beats Nats for ninth win
Gausman (9-3) won Sunday's 3-1 game against Washington, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman cruised through the game's first six innings but ran into trouble in the seventh when he loaded the bases with no outs and was lifted for reliever Dominic Leone. Only one inherited runner scored as Gausman and the Giants were able to escape the jam and sail to an eventual victory. The first-time All-Star won't play in Tuesday's game as a result of pitching Sunday and concludes the first half with a sensational 1.73 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 124:30 K:BB ratio.
Jul 5, 2021
Handed tough loss
Gausman (8-3) took the loss Monday versus the Cardinals after allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander didn't surrender a hit until the seventh inning, but two singles and a triple from Matt Carpenter staked St. Louis a two-run lead. It's the second straight loss for Gausman and the third loss in his past five starts, though he still has a 2.90 ERA during that stretch. The right-hander will attempt to get back in the win column this weekend against the Nationals in his final start before the All-Star break.
Jun 30, 2021
Takes second loss
Gausman (8-2) allowed three runs on three hits and five walks with four strikeouts across five innings, taking the loss versus the Dodgers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The five walks were a season high for the right-hander, who also allowed more than two runs for just the second time all year. Gausman's four strikeouts matched a season low. The 30-year-old has had very few missteps in 2021 with a 1.68 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 116:25 K:BB and just eight home runs allowed across 101.2 innings. He'll look to bounce back from this shaky outing next week versus St. Louis.
Jun 23, 2021
Punches out nine
Gausman allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine across seven innings Wednesday against the Angels. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman delivered another gem, with the only run against him coming on a solo home run by Luis Rengifo in the fifth inning. He otherwise dominated the Angels, racking up 19 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches. The only downside to the outing was that Gausman wasn't rewarded with a win, though that was through no fault of his own. Gausman has now allowed two earned runs or less in 14 of his 15 starts this season, which has translated to a 1.49 ERA with a 112 strikeouts across 96.2 innings.
Jun 18, 2021
Works eight innings in win
Gausman (8-1) allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out six across eight innings to earn the win Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Gausman worked very efficiently and turned in his third start of the season that went at least eight innings. He continued to dominate his opponents, as he's now allowed only four earned runs across his last 36 innings of work. In addition to his eight wins, Gausman has also maintained a 1.51 ERA with a 103:19 K:BB across 89.2 frames on the campaign.
Jun 12, 2021
Handed first loss
Gausman (7-1) took the loss Saturday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks across four innings. He fanned four.
ANALYSIS
Kyle Schwarber welcomed Gausman with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first inning and the right-hander gave up another run on a Josh Harrison double in the fourth. With the Giants in search of offense in the seven-inning game, Gausman was pinch-hit for in the top of the fifth, ending his day after just 64 pitches. Despite taking the loss, Gausman still boasts a sparkling 1.43 ERA and 0.78 WHIP to go along with an outstanding 97:18 K:BB through 81.2 innings. He should be relatively fresh when he takes the mound Thursday against Arizona.
Jun 10, 2021
Start pushed to Saturday
Gausman had his start against the Nationals pushed from Friday to Saturday following the postponement of Thursday's game, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The game will be made up via a doubleheader Saturday, and Gausman will start one of those contests. Thursday's original starter, Anthony DeSclafani, will take the mound Friday for the Giants.
Jun 6, 2021
Maintains perfect record
Gausman (7-0) earned the win over the Cubs on Saturday, pitching seven innings and allowing two unearned runs on two hits and no walks while striking out 10.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander served up a two-run homer to Patrick Wisdom in the second inning, though both runs were unearned due to an inning-opening error by shortstop Brandon Crawford. Gausman was nearly untouchable thereafter, allowing only one hit additional hit (a single) and retiring the final 15 batters he faced. The veteran has transformed himself into one of the league's elite starters this season, posting a perfect 7-0 record and ranking third in MLB with a 1.27 ERA and 0.76 WHIP. Gausman is also tied for seventh in the league with 93 strikeouts over 77.2 innings. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Friday at Washington.
Jun 2, 2021
On track for weekend start
The Giants list Gausman (hip) as their probable starter for Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was cleared of a strain or any structural damage to his left hip after undergoing an MRI on Monday, so he doesn't look like he'll be forced to miss a turn through the rotation after he was removed early during his most recent outing over the weekend versus the Dodgers. The 30-year-old has been the unquestioned staff ace for a surprisingly competitive Giants team in 2021, logging a 1.40 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and 83:16 K:BB in 70.2 innings through his first 11 starts.
May 31, 2021
MRI returns clean
Gausman said Monday that an MRI on his sore left hip came back clean, leaving him optimistic he remains on track to make a start during this weekend's series with the Cubs in Chicago, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The MRI was likely performed as a precaution, as Gausman previously said after his start Sunday against the Dodgers that he didn't expect to miss time because of the injury. Gausman will likely throw a between-starts bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday before the Giants render a formal verdict on his status for the weekend.
May 30, 2021
Expects to make next start
Gausman (hip) expects to make his next start, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his injury, but the issue doesn't appear to be a significant concern. The right-hander has been dealing with his hip issue for several weeks, but he was removed from Sunday's start as a precautionary measure at the end of the sixth inning after he felt it flare up while fielding a grounder. Assuming he's cleared to pitch, Gausman tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Cubs on Saturday.
May 30, 2021
Slated for MRI
Gausman (hip) will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his injury, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was removed from Sunday's start against the Dodgers as a precautionary measure due to left hip tightness, and manager Gabe Kapler said that the right-hander will get his MRI for "some peace of mind." Kapler said that Gausman has been dealing with his hip issue for several weeks, but he felt it flare up during Sunday's outing. Since Gausman has been able to pitch through the issue recently, there's hope that he'll be able to continue doing so, but his MRI should provide a better idea of his status moving forward.
May 30, 2021
Removed as precaution
Gausman was removed from Sunday's start against the Dodgers at the end of the sixth inning due to left hip tightness, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was dominant to begin Sunday's matchup, as he allowed two hits and no walks while striking out seven in six scoreless innings. However, he fielded a grounder at the end of the sixth inning and appeared to stretch awkwardly during the play. The Giants called his removal precautionary, but it's not yet clear whether the injury will impact his availability for his next start. Gausman tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Cubs on Saturday.
May 19, 2021
Fans eight in dominant outing
Gausman (4-0) earned the win Wednesday against the Reds after tossing six scoreless innings, giving up one hit and two walks while fanning eight.
ANALYSIS
Gausman has fanned six or more in five straight outings and continues to look dominant on the mount, as he has allowed more than one run in just one of his nine starts while pitching at least six innings every time he takes the mound. The 30-year-old left-hander continues to pitch as one of the best hurlers in the National League and owns a 1.66 ERA through 59.2 innings, and he'll look to keep this sizzling run going when he takes the ball next week against the Diamondbacks on the road.
May 15, 2021
Fans career-high 12 Friday
Gausman allowed one run on five hits while striking out a career-high 12 hitters over eight innings in a 3-2 extra-innings loss to the Pirates on Friday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was in complete control for a majority of the game against Pittsburgh as he threw 70 of his 96 pitches for strikes and had his off-speed stuff working with 10 of his 12 strikeouts coming via the splitter. Manager Gabe Kapler tested his luck by sending Gausman back out to begin the ninth and it did not work out well after he surrendered back-to-back singles and was replaced by Jake McGee who allowed one of the inherited runners to score. The 30-year-old clearly pitched well enough to earn the win but the Giants managed just four hits on the night. Gausman's 1.84 ERA is tied for fifth-best among qualified pitchers in baseball and his 0,84 WHIP is good for seventh. He'll look to avoid the loss column in a meeting against the Reds next week.
May 9, 2021
Posts quality start
Gausman (3-0) gave up one run on three hits and a walk while fanning seven across six innings in Saturday's win over the Padres. He earned the win.
ANALYSIS
Gausman improved to 3-0 while recording his fifth quality start of the season, and he has given up more than one earned run just once in the current campaign. The right-hander now owns a 1.97 ERA with a 47:12 K:BB across 45.2 innings in 2021, and he will try to keep this sizzling run going in his next start. He's expected to take the ball next week against the Pirates on the road.
May 8, 2021
Activated ahead of start
Gausman was activated off the COVID-19 injured list as expected ahead of his scheduled Saturday start against San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Gausman landed on the injured list Tuesday while recovering from the side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, but the timing meant he didn't have to miss a single start. He's had a strong start to the season, giving up one or fewer runs in five of his first six starts, including six innings of one-run ball against these same Padres in his last outing.
May 5, 2021
On track to start Saturday
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Gausman (COVID-19 injured list) is in line to start Saturday's game against the Padres, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was moved to the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday, but his placement on the IL was merely a result of the side effects he experienced from a vaccine shot rather than a positive test or because of close contact with an infected person. Assuming Gausman feels better within the next day or two, he shouldn't face any restrictions Saturday while starting on five days' rest.
May 4, 2021
Recovering from vaccine
Gausman's absence is expected to be a brief one, as he's been placed on the COVID-19 injured list merely due to the side effects of the coronavirus vaccine, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's turn in the rotation is due up Saturday, by which point the side effects will likely have subsided. The Giants have yet to officially confirm when he'll return to the roster, however.
May 4, 2021
Out for undisclosed reasons
Gausman landed on the injured list for undisclosed reasons Tuesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants didn't even specify which injured list Gausman was placed on, which typically means he's been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Per Crowley, the expectation is that Gausman may be on the injured list simply while recovering from the COVID-19 vaccine shot, though that's yet to be officially confirmed. If that's all that's going on with the righty, he should be able to take his next turn in the rotation, which lines up to come Saturday against the Padres.
May 3, 2021
Turns in another stellar outing
Gausman (2-0) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings in a win over the Padres on Sunday. He also singled and reached via a fielding error while scoring two runs.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's lone blemish on the day was allowing a first-inning solo home run to Fernando Tatis. The 30-year-old was excellent otherwise as it was his fifth start this season allowing one run or less. He lowered his ERA to a 2.04 while improving his K:BB to 40:11 over 39.2 innings. He's in line for a rematch against the Padres later in the week.
Apr 25, 2021
Strikes out 11 in no-decision
Gausman hurled eight innings in a no-decision against Miami on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out 11.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was dominant in the start, inducing 21 swinging strikes and allowing only a pair of hits. His lone mistake resulted in a Jon Berti home run in the seventh inning, but a strong outing by counterpart Pablo Lopez helped keep Gausman from earning his second win. Nonetheless, the right-hander has enjoyed a strong beginning of the campaign, going at least six innings in all five of his starts and registering a 2.14 ERA along with a 34:10 K:BB across 33.2 frames. He'll head to Colorado to face the Rockies in his next scheduled start Wednesday.

Blanks Phillies for first win
Gausman (1-0) picked up the win Monday in a 2-0 victory over the Phillies, allowing six hits and four walks over six scoreless innings while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander created plenty of traffic on the basepaths but buckled down when it counted, stranding runners in scoring position in every inning except the second. Gausman tossed 108 pitches (68 strikes) en route to his third quality start of the season, and he'll take a 2.45 ERA and 23:9 K:BB through 25.2 innings into his next outing Saturday, at home against the Marlins.

Rebounds after shaky first inning
Gausman allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Gausman got off to a poor start Tuesday, allowing a pair of two-run homers in the first inning off the bats of Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas. Eventually, the right-hander buckled down. Gausman retired the final 13 batters he faced and now has a 3.20 and 18:5 K:BB in 19.2 innings this season. Assuming the Giants don't skip anyone this weekend, Gausman will get two starts next week (at Philadelphia, vs. Miami).

Stifles Padres
Gausman allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out five across seven innings Wednesday against the Padres. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman kept the deep Padres lineup in check, limiting them to only four singles in his seven frames. It was his second tremendous start in as many outings this season, as he's combined to allowed two earned runs with a 11:3 K:BB across 13.2 frames. Though he has yet to to earn a win, Gausman has been able to pitch deep into games, which should give him plenty of opportunities for victories as the season progresses. He's currently lined up to make this next start Tuesday at home against Cincinnati.
Apr 2, 2021
Excellent in no-decision
Gausman gave up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six in 6.2 innings Thursday against the Mariners. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners ended up tagging the Giants bullpen for seven earned runs, so Gausman was unable to get the win, despite a strong first start of 2021. He only threw 90 pitches (62 strikes) and almost made it through seven innings. Gausman lines up to start in San Diego on Wednesday.

Tabbed for Opening Day
Gausman will start Opening Day against the Mariners on April 1, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old accepted San Francisco's one-year, $18.9 million qualifying offer this offseason after posting a 3.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 79:16 K:BB over 59.1 innings last year, and he'll be the first pitcher to take the mound for the Giants in 2021. It's another contract year for Gausman, and replicating his success from 2020 would provide a significant boost to his stock entering free agency.
Mar 21, 2021
Starting Monday
Gausman will start Monday's spring game against the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman will make his third start of spring training Monday after he allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four over 4.1 innings during his first two outings. The right-hander has been more effective than Johnny Cueto during his Cactus League appearances, but Cueto will start a simulated game for the Giants on Monday. Manager Gabe Kapler hasn't indicated whether Gausman or Cueto will serve as the Opening Day starter in 2021, but Kapler said Sunday that he could reach a decision in the next few days.

Accepts qualifying offer
Gausman accepted a one-year, $18.9 million qualifying offer from the Giants on Wednesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was rumored to have several multi-year contract offers on the table, but he'll instead elect to take a short-term deal that will pay him more than double his salary from 2020. The right-hander was dominant during his first year with the Giants during the abbreviated 2020 season, recording a 3.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 79:16 K:BB over 59.2 innings.

Giants extend qualifying offer
The Giants extended Gausman the $18.9 million qualifying offer for 2021 on Sunday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander joined San Francisco on a one-year, $9 million deal in January and pitched well enough during the shortened season to earn the qualifying offer. Gausman posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 79:16 K:BB over 59.2 innings, and the Giants are still hoping to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. If no deal is reached and he declines the one-year, $18.9 offer, the 29-year-old will carry draft-pick compensation if signing elsewhere in free agency.

Strong effort ends in no-decision
Gausman fanned nine while allowing two runs on eight hits and a walk across six innings during Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Rockies. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was effective in six innings of work, punching out nine Rockies before exiting with a 3-2 lead. Unfortunately for the right-hander, Sam Coonrod quickly gave up a pair of runs after replacing him, forcing Gausman to settle for a no-decision. It marked the second straight outing in which Gausman was sharp but came away winless. The 29-year-old has fanned 24 while allowing just four runs across his last 18 innings and is a strong candidate to start a game next week should the Giants sneak into the playoffs.

Dealt tough loss
Gausman (3-3) took the loss Saturday against the A's after giving up one run on one hit with six strikeouts and three walks over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Oakland scratched off a run during the fourth inning, but the right-hander otherwise kept the A's in check and showed no sign of the elbow issues that resulted in him being scratched from his previous start. Gausman has a 3.76 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 68:15 K:BB through 52.2 innings and lines up to make his final start of the regular season Thursday versus Colorado.
Sep 17, 2020
Set to start Saturday
Gausman (elbow) will start Saturday's game against the Athletics, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman (elbow) was scratched from his last start due to a right elbow issue, but he's since been cleared to take the mound for Saturday's matchup. He owns a 4.05 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with a 62:12 K:BB over 46.2 frames this season.
Sep 15, 2020
May start this weekend
Gausman (elbow) had an MRI come back clean and could start against the Athletics this weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old was scratched from his previous start with right elbow tightness, but the MRI cleared him of any structural issues. Gausman figures to have a throwing session within the next couple days to determine if he's cleared to rejoin the rotation this weekend in Oakland.
Sep 13, 2020
Dealing with elbow tightness
Gausman won't start Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Padres due to right elbow tightness, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, it has yet to be determined if a trip to the injured list is necessary, and Gausman is set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. The Giants have scheduled off days Monday and Thursday, so they won't need the full complements of the starting rotation until after next weekend. Logan Webb will take the mound in the nightcap for San Francisco.

Fans nine in win
Gausman (3-2) yielded one run on three walks and two hits over six innings Monday, striking out nine and earning the win against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Gausman found himself in a jam during the third inning, loading the bases with just one out, but he managed to escape after allowing just one run. San Francisco's offense tallied four runs in the sixth inning and that was enough support to give the 29-year-old his second straight win. He'll carry a 4.05 ERA into Saturday's road matchup with San Diego.
Sep 2, 2020
Gets plenty of support in win
Gausman (2-2) picked up the win Tuesday against Colorado, pitching five innings and allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
It was a relatively easy outing for the veteran hurler given the 23 runs of support San Francisco put on the scoreboard in the rout. Gausman stuck around just long enough to qualify for the win, throwing 87 pitches and allowing only two hits -- both of which were homers off the bat of Garrett Hampson. Gausman will next face Arizona at home Monday.
Aug 27, 2020
Fans six in loss
Gausman (1-2) was charged with the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman got the nod in the second half of Thursday's doubleheader and was pulled in the fifth after throwing his 93rd pitch. The right-hander was largely victimized by Joc Pederson, who homered in the second inning, then doubled and scored in the fourth. Otherwise, Gausman limited the Dodgers' damage despite taking his second loss of the season. The 29-year-old will carry a 4.54 ERA and 1.26 WHIP into a tough matchup at Coors Field on Tuesday.
Aug 27, 2020
Not starting Game 1
Gausman is not starting Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
It turns out Logan Webb will get the ball for the first half of Thursday's twin bill, with Gausman likely lined up to start Game 2. Across 31 innings this season, Gausman owns a 4.65 ERA (3.12 FIP) and 42:6 K:BB.
Aug 27, 2020
Starting first game of twin bill
Gausman will start the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was on track to start Wednesday before the Giants and Dodgers were one of the six MLB teams that elected to postpone games. He'll now return to the mound on a full week's rest after he cleared 100 pitches for the second start in a row in his last outing Aug. 20 against the Angels. The 29-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for the Giants this season, compiling a 4.65 ERA (3.12 FIP) and a 42:6 K:BB in 31 innings.
Aug 26, 2020
Wednesday's start postponed
Gausman won't make his scheduled start Wednesday against the Dodgers as the teams elected to postpone the game in protest of the recent police shooting of Jacob Blake, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the third MLB game of the night to be postponed, as the Mariners and Padres also decided to follow suit from the Brewers and Reds decision. The Giants and Dodgers could make up the contest via a doubleheader Thursday, but no schedule has been announce. Gausman seems likely to pitch Thursday, regardless.
Aug 21, 2020
Earns win over Angels
Gausman (1-1) earned the win Thursday against the Angels. He allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk while fanning eight across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gausman didn't have his best stuff out there and, in fact, he's now allowed three or more runs in four of his last six starts. However, the offense backed him up early in the game and that allowed the 29-year-old to notch his first win of the season. Gausman will try to build off this performance ahead of his next scheduled start against the Dodgers on Aug. 26.
Aug 16, 2020
Strikes out 11 in no-decision
Gausman did not factor in the decision against Oakland on Saturday, hurling 5.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 11.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was somewhat wild in the outing -- he more than doubled his season total with three walks and threw only 62 of 106 pitches for strikes -- but he also induced 19 swinging strikes and notched a season-high 11 whiffs. He was stung by a pair of home runs in the contest but kept the Giants in the game against the first-place Athletics. The right-hander sports a 4.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 34:5 K:BB through 25.2 innings. His next start is lined up for Thursday at home against the Angels.
Aug 9, 2020
Whiffs six in no-decision
Gausman allowed a run on three hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday. He struck out six and walked none.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was excellent in the outing, but perhaps he shouldn't have worked into the seventh inning. He allowed a one-out single to Cody Bellinger before Tyler Rogers came on in relief. It was Rogers who gave up a three-run homer three batters later to spoil Gausman's chances for his first win of the year. The 29-year-old Gausman has a 4.05 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 23 strikeouts over 20 innings this season. He'll next take the mound Saturday versus the Athletics.
Aug 5, 2020
Suffers loss Tuesday
Gausman (0-1) took the loss against Colorado on Tuesday, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gausman's third start of the season wasn't a complete disaster -- he struck out seven batters and allowed only six baserunners in 5.1 frames -- but timely Colorado hitting was enough to saddle the right-hander with his first loss of the campaign. Gausman did do a number of things to inspire confidence in the contest, including throwing 62 of 83 pitches for strikes and registering his highest pitch count of the season. The 29-year-old will face a tough challenge when he heads to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers on Sunday in his next scheduled start.
Jul 31, 2020
Unsteady in second outing
Gausman allowed three runs on six hits and struck out eight batters in 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The eight whiffs are nice, but Gausman got into trouble with a wild pitch in the third inning and a parade of hits to start the fourth. He threw 48 of his 73 pitches for strikes in the appearance. The right-hander has yet to get through five innings in 2020, with a 5.40 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB across two outings. Gausman is expected to face the Rockies at Coors Field on Tuesday.
Jul 30, 2020
Starting series finale
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Gausman would start Thursday's game against the Padres, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
In his first outing of the season last week against the Dodgers, Gausman worked as the bulk reliever behind an opener (Tyler Anderson), but the arrangement appears to have been more of a one-off thing. Since Gausman was limited to four innings (58 pitches) in that appearance, he may face some light restrictions with his workload as he makes his first traditional start.
Jul 27, 2020
Works as primary pitcher in debut
Gausman came on in relief in his season debut in Friday's 9-1 loss to the Dodgers, covering four innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Gausman was expected to open the season as the team's third or fourth starter, but manager Gabe Kapler made the surprising choice to deploy the right-hander as a primary pitcher behind southpaw Tyler Anderson in the Giants' second game of 2020. Since the Giants were trailing 2-1 when Gausman entered the contest in the third inning, he was spared the loss in the 58-pitch appearance. It's unclear if Gausman will be used as a traditional starter or as a primary pitcher when his turn comes up again Thursday against the Padres of Friday against the Rangers.
Mar 27, 2020
Locked into middle of rotation
Gausman will work as either the Giants' No. 3 or No. 4 starter this year, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He had a 4.35 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB in 10.1 innings (four starts) this spring. Gausman has teased with his potential for years, and this could be his last chance to make it as a starter. He has a 94-mph fastball and excellent splitter, but has been unable to develop a reliably effective breaking ball.
