Bubic (elbow) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list by the Royals on Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

It's a procedural move that removes Bubic from the 40-man roster and allows the Royals to select the contract of Austin Cox from Triple-A Iowa. Bubic underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of April, and the left-hander isn't expected back until the summer months of the 2024 campaign.

Bubic (elbow) announced Wednesday via his personal Instagram account that he had successful Tommy John surgery.

With his surgery having now been completed, the 25-year-old lefty is in line to miss the remainder of the 2023 season and a large portion of the 2024 campaign as well. Ryan Yarbrough served as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen the first time Bubic's turn in the rotation came up last week, but Yarbrough will work in a traditional starting role Wednesday in Arizona.

The news puts an early end to Bubic's season, and he will likely be held out for a good portion of the 2024 season as well. The Royals have not yet named a replacement for Bubic in the rotation, but Ryan Yarbrough figures to be a prime candidate for the job.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Bubic will require a second opinion on his elbow after he was diagnosed Sunday with a left flexor strain, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list after initial tests revealed the flexor strain, but Quatraro notes that the Royals still have some "underlying concerns' about the health of the lefty's elbow and will have him get another checkup. The Royals are expected to have an updated timeline on Bubic's return later Monday once the second medical opinion is completed, but the southpaw looks like he could be at risk of missing more than the minimum 15 days.

It took Bubic 27 starts, but he finally picked up his third win of the season thanks to an impressive performance against the postseason-bound Guardians. It was his third scoreless appearance of the season and his eight strikeouts were the most that he accumulated in a single game all year. Overall, it was a tough season for the 25-year-old left-hander. He finishes the campaign with a bloated WHIP of 1.70 and 110 strikeouts over 129 innings pitched.

Bubic pitched 4.2 innings Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision versus Seattle.

Bubic was far from sharp in the outing, as he threw only 57 of 103 pitches for strikes and walked four batters. He did, however, rack up six punchouts and put a halt to a streak of seven straight losing starts that extended back to mid-August. The left-hander had posted an ugly 7.83 ERA and 2.10 WHIP during the poor stretch, and though Saturday's outing wasn't much better, Bubic at least managed to walk away with his team in the lead. He'll look for his first win since July 24 the next time he takes the mound.

Bubic gave up one run in each of the first two frames before he was tagged with three runs in the third inning. He's gone 0-7 with a brutal 7.83 ERA over his last seven starts. That poor stretch has driven his season ERA up to 5.81 alongside a 96:58 K:BB through 119.1 innings. Bubic is expected to face the Mariners at home next week.

Bubic is lined up for a road start versus the Twins next week, assuming he remains in the rotation over Max Castillo once Zack Greinke (forearm) returns from the injured list.

By his recent performances, this was actually a good start, though the four walks were the second-highest amount he's allowed in one game this year. Through 23 outings (22 starts), Bubic has a 5.47 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 84:53 K:BB through 105.1 innings. The southpaw is lined up for a home start versus the Guardians next week.

Bubic (2-9) took the loss to the Padres on Friday, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking one over four innings.

Bubic picked up his ninth loss of the year after a six-run clunker Friday. He threw 42 of 64 pitches for strikes and was burned mostly by singles and doubles. Two of Bubic's six earned runs came on solo shots in the third inning. He also allowed an RBI single, a two RBI double and another double that sent a runner home. Over his last three games, the lefty has allowed 27 hits, 14 earned runs and six walks over 13.1 innings, while striking out 10 batters. Bubic's struggles have resulted in a 5.62 ERA on the season.

Bubic (2-8) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against Tampa Bay.

Bubic surrendered three doubles, two of which drove in a run - one off the bat of Taylor Walls and the other from Yandy Diaz. The 25-year-old had been pitching better with a 2.89 ERA in 37.1 innings over his last six starts prior to this contest and has not allowed a homer in his last four. The lefty has been much more successful at home during his previous seven outings with a 2.41 ERA in 18.2 innings compared to a 4.43 ERA in 22.1 innings on the road.

Bubic (2-7) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against Minnesota. He struck out seven.

Minnesota had little trouble getting to Bubic on Monday as he failed to record a clean inning all night. The effort breaks a five-start stretch in which Bubic maintained a 2.27 ERA and 1.04 WHIP and notched four quality starts. He will try to get back on track in his next scheduled start this weekend in Tampa Bay.

Bubic tossed 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters in Wednesday's win over the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Bubic pitched five scoreless frames before the wheels fell off in the sixth inning, which was partially not his fault. Bubic didn't factor into the decision during Thursday's 7-3 victory over Boston, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeout sin six innings.

Bubic was down 2-0 three batters into the game but rebounded to permit only two baserunners the rest of the way -- retiring nine straight at one point. The 24-year-old fired 62 of 89 pitches for strikes with 10 of the swinging variety and has now submitted quality starts in each of his last four turns, pitching to a 2.42 ERA across 26 innings during the stretch against strong AL East competition in the Yankees, Blue Jays and Rays. The impressive performance of late has lowered Bubic's ERA from 6.63 to 5.27 and a 4.69 xFIP suggests more starts like Thursday's could be in store. He's currently scheduled to take the mound again midweek against the White Sox.

Bubic didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-5 loss to the Yankees, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

It's questionable if he'll get another start before the All-Star break -- Bubic could pitch Sunday versus the Blue Jays if Daniel Lynch (finger) can't start, but the Royals' pitching plans aren't currently known.

Bubic (1-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and six walks over 5.1 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.

Bubic struggled with his command, throwing just 57 of 98 pitches for strikes and allowing six walks. However, he was able to avoid major damage until Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez each hit home runs in the fifth inning to give the Astros a 3-2 lead. Across 13 appearances, Bubic sports a 6.84 ERA with a 42:32 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's game against Detroit.

This was Bubic's longest start of the season, and it was also one of his more effective outings. Taylor Ward gave him some trouble with a solo home run in the third inning and an RBI single in the fifth, but that was the extent of the damage. Even with a strong outing, Bubic has a 7.41 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 31:20 K:BB across 34 innings in 10 appearances (nine starts). When Zack Greinke (elbow) returns from the injured list, it'll likely come down to Bubic or Daniel Lynch exiting the Royals' rotation.

Bubic has just a tenuous grasp on a spot in the rotation. He's allowed seven runs over 9.2 innings in his last two starts, and the southpaw seems like the most likely pitcher to drop out of the rotation once Zack Greinke (elbow) returns, though nothing is official in that regard yet.

The 24-year-old has a brutal 4:8 K:BB through five innings over two starts to begin the season to go along with a 10.80 ERA, and Bubic will lose his spot in the rotation quickly if he doesn't find a semblance of control.

In addition to a curveball, the lefty has debuted a slider in spring training, which could make him harder to hit in 2022. He's also working on upping his velocity on his fastball from the 90.9 mph average he had last season. Bubic is expected to work more toward the back end of the Royals' rotation, though he'll likely face pressure from prospects like Jonathan Hernandez, Jackson Kowar and Daniel Lynch to maintain a starting role this season.

Bubic (6-7) was charged with the loss against Minnesota on Saturday, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out five.

Bubic was somewhat wild in the outing -- he threw only 57 of 97 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes -- but he was able to limit the damage by holding the Mariners to just two hits. The strong outing continued a recent stretch of effective performances by the left-hander, who has notched a 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 19 innings in September. He'll look to continue rolling in his next start, which is projected to be a favorable matchup at Detroit next weekend.

Bubic has hurled exactly six innings in each of his past three starts, posting a standout 2.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over that stretch. His 12:6 K:BB across those 18 innings portends some regression, but it is worth noting that he has been taken deep only once over the trio of appearances. He's tentatively slated to make another start in a rematch against the White Sox -- this time on the road -- early next week.

Bubic was brilliant in his first start of the season and had the Brewers' hitters fooled with his frequent usage of a fastball-changeup combination. He induced plenty of weak contact but unfortunately couldn't get the win as the Royals weren't able to break the 0-0 tie until the eighth inning. The 23-year-old now owns a 0.96 ERA and 14:9 K:BB over 18.2 innings and should figure to stick in the rotation for the time being after this impressive performance. His next start is projected to be early next week against the Rays.
