Transferred to 60-day IL
Bubic (elbow) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list by the Royals on Wednesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a procedural move that removes Bubic from the 40-man roster and allows the Royals to select the contract of Austin Cox from Triple-A Iowa. Bubic underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of April, and the left-hander isn't expected back until the summer months of the 2024 campaign.

Undergoes surgery
Bubic (elbow) announced Wednesday via his personal Instagram account that he had successful Tommy John surgery.
ANALYSIS
With his surgery having now been completed, the 25-year-old lefty is in line to miss the remainder of the 2023 season and a large portion of the 2024 campaign as well. Ryan Yarbrough served as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen the first time Bubic's turn in the rotation came up last week, but Yarbrough will work in a traditional starting role Wednesday in Arizona.
Apr 21, 2023
Requires Tommy John surgery
Bubic will undergo Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The news puts an early end to Bubic's season, and he will likely be held out for a good portion of the 2024 season as well. The Royals have not yet named a replacement for Bubic in the rotation, but Ryan Yarbrough figures to be a prime candidate for the job.

Needs second opinion
Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Bubic will require a second opinion on his elbow after he was diagnosed Sunday with a left flexor strain, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list after initial tests revealed the flexor strain, but Quatraro notes that the Royals still have some "underlying concerns' about the health of the lefty's elbow and will have him get another checkup. The Royals are expected to have an updated timeline on Bubic's return later Monday once the second medical opinion is completed, but the southpaw looks like he could be at risk of missing more than the minimum 15 days.
Apr 16, 2023
Placed on injured list
Bubic was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Royals on Sunday with a left flexor strain.
ANALYSIS
Bubic went five innings against Atlanta on Saturday while allowing five runs on 10 hits. The left-hander will miss at least two weeks while he recovers from the strain, and Josh Taylor has been recalled from Omaha in a corresponding move.

Tagged with loss Saturday
Bubic (0-2) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, pitching five innings during which he allowed five runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was outstanding in his first two starts this season, allowing just two runs and posting a 13:1 K:BB over 11 innings. The southpaw took a step back Saturday, yielding a season-high 10 hits -- including three extra-base hits off the bat of Sean Murphy -- and five runs. Bubic didn't fool many batters in inducing just eight swinging strikes and recording a season-low three punchouts. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, which is tentatively slated to come on the road against the Angels.

Tosses six shutout frames
Bubic allowed two hits over six shutout frames during Sunday's loss to the Giants. He struck out nine and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was in line for the win before San Francisco's offense came alive in the eighth inning. The 25-year-old was dominant, tossing 56 of 76 pitches for strikes. He forced 19 whiffs on 42 pitches and never let a runner get passed second base. Bubic is sporting a 1.64 ERA alongside a 13:4 K:BB through 11 innings. He;s expected to face Atlanta at home next weekend.
Apr 4, 2023
Allows two runs in loss
Bubic (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Blue Jays after he gave up two runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander consistently worked from ahead and threw first-pitch strikes to 16 of the 22 batters he faced, and he also generated 14 swinging strikes. Bubic was saddled with the loss as Kansas City's offense mustered just four hits, but it was still an encouraging first outing of the season. He next lines up to pitch Sunday in San Francisco.
Mar 28, 2023
Named fifth starter
Bubic will open the season as the Royals' No. 5 starter, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A spot opened up with Daniel Lynch (shoulder) going down and Bubic was the obvious replacement to step in. The left-hander has been a disappointment at the major-league level, most recently posting a 5.58 ERA over 129 innings in 2022. He's not a desired fantasy target.
Mar 24, 2023
Could move into rotation
Bubic could join the Royals' rotation following the injury to Daniel Lynch (shoulder), Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lynch could potentially be sidelined for multiple weeks with a strained pitching shoulder. Bubic was dreadful for the Royals last season, holding a 5.58 ERA over 129 innings. The left-hander isn't someone fantasy managers want to be invested in.
Mar 12, 2023
Solid in spring
Bubic has not allowed an earned run over three innings across two Cactus League appearances.
ANALYSIS
Bubic made his first start of the spring Saturday versus the Brewers and threw two scoreless innings. Despite the solid start, the southpaw is likely facing an uphill battle to get into the rotation after the offseason additions of Jordan Lyles and Ryan Yarbrough (groin). Bubic will likely need to finish the exhibition slate well and hope for one or both of Daniel Lynch and Brad Keller to falter to have a chance of opening the season in the rotation.

Strikes deal with Royals
Bubic and the Royals agreed on a one-year, $2.2 million contract Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic and the Royals struck a deal Friday, right in time to avoid arbitration. The 25-year-old struggled in 2022, producing an inflated 5.58 ERA and 1.70 WHIP with 110 punchouts over 129 innings while starting 27 out of the 28 games he appeared in.
Oct 2, 2022
Throws five scoreless in win
Bubic (3-13) gave up five hits and a walk while striking out eight over five scoreless innings to earn the win in a 7-1 victory over the Guardians on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It took Bubic 27 starts, but he finally picked up his third win of the season thanks to an impressive performance against the postseason-bound Guardians. It was his third scoreless appearance of the season and his eight strikeouts were the most that he accumulated in a single game all year. Overall, it was a tough season for the 25-year-old left-hander. He finishes the campaign with a bloated WHIP of 1.70 and 110 strikeouts over 129 innings pitched.

Snaps losing streak in no-decision
Bubic pitched 4.2 innings Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision versus Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was far from sharp in the outing, as he threw only 57 of 103 pitches for strikes and walked four batters. He did, however, rack up six punchouts and put a halt to a streak of seven straight losing starts that extended back to mid-August. The left-hander had posted an ugly 7.83 ERA and 2.10 WHIP during the poor stretch, and though Saturday's outing wasn't much better, Bubic at least managed to walk away with his team in the lead. He'll look for his first win since July 24 the next time he takes the mound.
Sep 18, 2022
Handed seventh straight loss
Bubic (2-13) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against Boston.
ANALYSIS
Bubic gave up one run in each of the first two frames before he was tagged with three runs in the third inning. He's gone 0-7 with a brutal 7.83 ERA over his last seven starts. That poor stretch has driven his season ERA up to 5.81 alongside a 96:58 K:BB through 119.1 innings. Bubic is expected to face the Mariners at home next week.
Sep 13, 2022
Struggles versus Twins
Bubic (2-12) took the loss Tuesday versus the Twins. He allowed five runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic wasn't very good, but the Royals didn't record a hit until the ninth inning, so he was never going to get enough support. Carlos Correa and Jose Miranda combined to produce all five runs against Bubic in the contest, which was the southpaw's sixth consecutive loss. He's given up at least four runs in four of those outings and now has a 5.55 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 94:55 K:BB through 116.2 innings across 25 outings (24 starts). Bubic tentatively lines up for a road start in Boston this weekend.
Sep 7, 2022
Quality start in loss
Bubic (2-11) allowed three runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out four over 6.1 innings to take the loss versus the Guardians on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic turned in his second straight quality start, but it wasn't enough to outduel Shane Bieber. The defeated extended Bubic's losing streak to five starts, and he's gone eight outings since his last win, posting a 5.19 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 43.1 innings in the longer span. For the season, the southpaw has similar numbers with a 5.40 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 88:54 K:BB through 111.2 innings through 24 outings (23 starts). Bubic is lined up for a road start versus the Twins next week, assuming he remains in the rotation over Max Castillo once Zack Greinke (forearm) returns from the injured list.
Sep 1, 2022
Takes 10th loss
Bubic (2-10) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one over six innings, taking the loss Wednesday versus the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
By his recent performances, this was actually a good start, though the four walks were the second-highest amount he's allowed in one game this year. Bubic limited the damage to solo home runs by AJ Pollock and Elvis Andrus, but the Royals' lack of run support did him in. Through 23 outings (22 starts), Bubic has a 5.47 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 84:53 K:BB through 105.1 innings. The southpaw is lined up for a home start versus the Guardians next week.
Aug 27, 2022
Tagged for six runs
Bubic (2-9) took the loss to the Padres on Friday, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out three and walking one over four innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic picked up his ninth loss of the year after a six-run clunker Friday. He threw 42 of 64 pitches for strikes and was burned mostly by singles and doubles. Two of Bubic's six earned runs came on solo shots in the third inning. He also allowed an RBI single, a two RBI double and another double that sent a runner home. Over his last three games, the lefty has allowed 27 hits, 14 earned runs and six walks over 13.1 innings, while striking out 10 batters. Bubic's struggles have resulted in a 5.62 ERA on the season.
Aug 21, 2022
Shaky in road loss
Bubic (2-8) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Bubic surrendered three doubles, two of which drove in a run - one off the bat of Taylor Walls and the other from Yandy Diaz. The 25-year-old had been pitching better with a 2.89 ERA in 37.1 innings over his last six starts prior to this contest and has not allowed a homer in his last four. The lefty has been much more successful at home during his previous seven outings with a 2.41 ERA in 18.2 innings compared to a 4.43 ERA in 22.1 innings on the road.
Aug 15, 2022
Hit hard in loss
Bubic (2-7) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and three walks over 5.2 innings against Minnesota. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Minnesota had little trouble getting to Bubic on Monday as he failed to record a clean inning all night. The effort breaks a five-start stretch in which Bubic maintained a 2.27 ERA and 1.04 WHIP and notched four quality starts. He will try to get back on track in his next scheduled start this weekend in Tampa Bay.
Aug 11, 2022
Just short of quality start
Bubic tossed 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters in Wednesday's win over the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic pitched five scoreless frames before the wheels fell off in the sixth inning, which was partially not his fault. After allowing the White Sox to load the bases with one out in the inning, two runs came around to score on a fielding error by Michael Massey on what could have been an inning-ending double play. Another baserunner came around to score with two outs in the frame and Bubic was removed from the game. He fell one out shy of a fifth consecutive quality start. Over the left-hander's last five starts, he's posted a 2.27 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 31.2 innings.
Aug 5, 2022
Continues quality-start streak
Bubic didn't factor into the decision during Thursday's 7-3 victory over Boston, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with six strikeout sin six innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was down 2-0 three batters into the game but rebounded to permit only two baserunners the rest of the way -- retiring nine straight at one point. The 24-year-old fired 62 of 89 pitches for strikes with 10 of the swinging variety and has now submitted quality starts in each of his last four turns, pitching to a 2.42 ERA across 26 innings during the stretch against strong AL East competition in the Yankees, Blue Jays and Rays. The impressive performance of late has lowered Bubic's ERA from 6.63 to 5.27 and a 4.69 xFIP suggests more starts like Thursday's could be in store. He's currently scheduled to take the mound again midweek against the White Sox.
Jul 30, 2022
Quality start against Yankees
Bubic didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-5 loss to the Yankees, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Homers by Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge accounted for all the damage off Bubic, but he still delivered his third straight quality start and fourth in his last eight outings. The southpaw's numbers on the season remain rough, but since rejoining the Royals' rotation at the beginning of June, Bubic has a 3.84 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 51:28 K:BB through 61 innings.
Jul 24, 2022
Picks up second win
Bubic (2-6) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out four and earning a win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Bubic served up a solo homer to Yandy Diaz in the third inning and an RBI sacrifice fly to Luke Raley in the sixth. The 24-year-old was 0-2 with a 3.95 ERA in five starts since his last win June 20. On the year, Bubic is sporting a 5.53 ERA with a 55:37 K:BB through 16 appearances (15 starts). He's expected to face the Yankees on the road next week.
Jul 17, 2022
Strong start in no decision
Bubic gave up two unearned runs on five hits and zero walks while striking out four over seven innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
This is the first time Bubic has given up fewer than two earned runs since June 4. He has not struck out more than five batters in a start since June 20. It's unclear if Bubic will pitch next weekend at home against the Rays or the following week at home against the Angels.
Jul 13, 2022
No-decision versus Tigers
Bubic allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings, taking a no-decision versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was able to correct his control issues from his previous start, when he walked six batters. He threw 69 of 99 pitches for strikes Tuesday. He ended up instead leaving too many pitches in easy-to-hit spots, as the eight hits were the second-highest total he's given up this year. The southpaw was able to effectively limit the damage, as the Tigers put up two runs in the second inning and one more in the fifth against him. Bubic has a 6.63 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 47:34 K:BB through 54.1 innings in 14 outings (13 starts). It's questionable if he'll get another start before the All-Star break -- Bubic could pitch Sunday versus the Blue Jays if Daniel Lynch (finger) can't start, but the Royals' pitching plans aren't currently known.
Jul 8, 2022
Six walks in loss
Bubic (1-6) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and six walks over 5.1 innings against the Astros. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Bubic struggled with his command, throwing just 57 of 98 pitches for strikes and allowing six walks. However, he was able to avoid major damage until Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez each hit home runs in the fifth inning to give the Astros a 3-2 lead. Across 13 appearances, Bubic sports a 6.84 ERA with a 42:32 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's game against Detroit.
Jul 2, 2022
Another short outing
Bubic registered a no-decision during Saturday's 4-3 loss to Detroit, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic started slowly with one run permitted on three baserunners in the first inning but rebounded well to get through the next three frames relatively easily. He then surrendered another run on three baserunners in the fifth and departed with two runners on that were neutralized when reliever Jose Cuas retired Willi Castro to end the inning. The 24-year-old has now pitched fewer than five innings in seven of 11 starts and is averaging under four innings per start. Bubic's 5.56 FIP and 4.81 xFIP suggest his 7.06 ERA stands to improve, though his 1.87 WHIP ranks fourth worst among the 248 pitchers who have thrown at least 30 innings. He's currently scheduled to oppose Houston midweek for his next start.
Jun 28, 2022
Stumbles to fifth loss
Bubic (1-5) took the loss Monday as the Royals were downed 10-4 by the Rangers, surrendering seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw tossed 53 of 87 pitches in a shaky performance, and while Bubic didn't get much help from his defense, one of Kansas City's two errors on the night was his own. The 24-year-old has a 7.65 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 31:23 K:BB through 37.2 innings as a starter this season, and he could lose his rotation spot once Daniel Lynch (finger) is ready to return.
Jun 21, 2022
Steady in first win
Bubic (1-4) earned the win Monday over the Angels. He allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven in six innings.
ANALYSIS
This was Bubic's longest start of the season, and it was also one of his more effective outings. Taylor Ward gave him some trouble with a solo home run in the third inning and an RBI single in the fifth, but that was the extent of the damage. Even with a strong outing, Bubic has a 7.41 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 31:20 K:BB across 34 innings in 10 appearances (nine starts). When Zack Greinke (elbow) returns from the injured list, it'll likely come down to Bubic or Daniel Lynch exiting the Royals' rotation.
Jun 19, 2022
Getting another start
Bubic is the Royals' projected starter for their series opener versus the Angels on Monday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic has just a tenuous grasp on a spot in the rotation. He's allowed seven runs over 9.2 innings in his last two starts, and the southpaw seems like the most likely pitcher to drop out of the rotation once Zack Greinke (elbow) returns, though nothing is official in that regard yet.
Jun 15, 2022
Stumbles in sixth inning
Bubic (0-4) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Bubic gave up just one hit and both walks in his first five innings, but the Giants put four of their first five batters on base with hits in the sixth. The southpaw was responsible for all three runs scored, and the Royals couldn't get him off the hook. The 24-year-old still has an unsightly 8.36 ERA, 1.89 WHIP and 24:18 K:BB across 28 innings in nine appearances (eight starts). With Zack Greinke (elbow) expected back as soon as Friday, there's not likely to be room in the rotation for Bubic going forward.
Jun 10, 2022
Can't escape fifth inning
Bubic pitched 4.1 innings against Baltimore on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic yielded only one run through his first four frames, but things fell apart for him in the fifth. The southpaw struck out the first batter he faced in that inning before giving up three straight hits, and he was subsequently pulled for a reliever. Bubic hasn't been able to get into the win column through eight outings this season, and his 9.13 ERA is a good indicator of why.
Jun 8, 2022
Stays in rotation
Bubic is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Orioles in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
After Bubic blanked the Astros over five innings while scattering five hits and three walks in a no-decision over the weekend, it doesn't come as a major surprise that he'll receive a second turn through the rotation. Considering he entered his start against Houston with a 12.83 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in his 13.1 innings on the season with the big club, however, Bubic may be tough to trust even in a home matchup against a cellar-dwelling Orioles squad.
Jun 4, 2022
Posts five scoreless innings
Bubic logged five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out three in a no-decision in Saturday's win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was a little generous with eight baserunners allowed, but the Royals' bullpen gave up just two walks in four innings to finish off the close game. This was Bubic's best outing so far after spending nearly a month at Triple-A Omaha with mixed results. The southpaw still has a 9.33 ERA, 2.07 WHIP And 13:14 K:BB across 18.1 innings in seven appearances. The Royals will hope he can pitch more often like he did Saturday while Zack Greinke (elbow) is out. Assuming Bubic gets another start, he's projected for a favorable home matchup against the Orioles next week.
Jun 4, 2022
Called up to start Saturday
Bubic was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to start Saturday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Bubic hasn't fared particularly well in the majors this year, as he's posted a 12.83 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 13.1 innings over six appearances (five starts). He settled for a 6.59 ERA in 13.2 innings over his last three starts in the minors, but he'll get another shot as a starter with the big-league club since Zack Greinke (elbow) is sidelined until mid-June.
Jun 4, 2022
Potential starter Saturday
Bubic is on the Royals' taxi squad and could be promoted to the active roster to start Saturday at home versus the Astros, Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic has made three starts for Triple-A Omaha since he was sent down on May 12. He's struggled with a 6.59 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 17:4 K:BB across 13.2 innings, but the Royals are set to need a fresh arm in their rotation with Zack Greinke (elbow) sidelined until mid-June.
May 12, 2022
Sent to Triple-A
Bubic was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic lost his place in the rotation last week after posting an awful 13.14 ERA and 8:11 K:BB through his first five starts. He moved to the bullpen but made just one appearance there before losing his spot on the active roster entirely. Jon Heasley, who will start Thursday against the Rangers, was recalled to take his place on the roster.
May 6, 2022
Shifting to bullpen
Manager Mike Matheny said Friday that Bubic will operate out of the bullpen going forward, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was unable to escape the first inning during his start Wednesday, and he'll now shift to a bullpen role. Bubuc threw 24 pitches during that contest and will be available to pitch Saturday versus the Orioles. It remains unclear who will replace him in the starting rotation.
May 4, 2022
Records only one out
Bubic (0-3) was charged with the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals after giving up four runs on two hits with two walks and zero strikeouts in one-third of an inning.
ANALYSIS
Bubic threw 10 of his 24 pitches for strikes and retired only one of the five batters he faced before being yanked. It was a disastrous outing for the left-hander, and it's the second time this season he's failed to finish the first inning. The 24-year-old has a 13.14 ERA, 2.35 WHIP and 8:11 K:BB over 12.1 innings this season, and his next outing lines up for next Wednesday at Texas, if he retains his spot in the rotation.
Apr 30, 2022
Stuck with second loss
Bubic (0-2) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on four hits over five inning as the Royals got routed 12-2 by the Yankees. He struck out three without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
Three of the four hits off Bubic went for extra bases, including back-to-back jacks by Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton in the first inning. This was arguably the best outing of the season so far for the southpaw, but Bubic's 10.50 ERA, 2.08 WHIP and 8:9 K:BB through 12 innings will mark him as a very unappealing fantasy option until he can show some consistency.
Apr 24, 2022
Hit hard by Mariners
Bubic didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 13-7 loss to Seattle, allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk with one strikeout in two innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic surrendered two runs in the first inning on a J.P. Crawford home run, two more in the second and one in the third before being pulled. That's now two poor starts in three turns for the 24-year-old, who's permitted 11 runs and 21 base runners in seven innings compared to just five strikeouts on the season. He's tentatively scheduled to take the mound next against the Yankees on Friday.
Apr 16, 2022
Wild in Saturday's no-decision
Bubic didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Tigers, giving up one run on two hits and six walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The lefty tossed only 49 of 89 pitches for strikes and walked at least one batter in every inning he worked, but Bubic was able to avoid much damage and exited the game with the score tied 1-1. The 24-year-old has a brutal 4:8 K:BB through five innings over two starts to begin the season to go along with a 10.80 ERA, and Bubic will lose his spot in the rotation quickly if he doesn't find a semblance of control.
Apr 11, 2022
Can't escape first inning
Bubic (0-1) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Guardians after allowing five runs on three hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was atrocious in this one and recorded more runs allowed (five) and hits (three) than outs recorded (two) as he couldn't even finish the opening frame. He's expected to pitch again in the upcoming weekend series at home against the Tigers.
Apr 1, 2022
Good start to spring
Bubic has allowed just one run and three hits over five innings across his two spring starts so far. He's struck out four and walked two.
ANALYSIS
Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports Bubic was satisfied with his breaking balls as he struck out three in three innings versus the Athletics on Thursday. In addition to a curveball, the lefty has debuted a slider in spring training, which could make him harder to hit in 2022. He's also working on upping his velocity on his fastball from the 90.9 mph average he had last season. Bubic is expected to work more toward the back end of the Royals' rotation, though he'll likely face pressure from prospects like Jonathan Hernandez, Jackson Kowar and Daniel Lynch to maintain a starting role this season.
Oct 3, 2021
Pitches well but takes loss
Bubic (6-7) was charged with the loss against Minnesota on Saturday, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
Bubic gave up a single run in each of the first, fourth and fifth frames, with the fourth-inning tally largely caused by an infield error. The southpaw pitched into the seventh for the third straight outing but was outdueled by rookie Griffin Jax, who gave up only one hit in five scoreless frames. Bubic ends the campaign with a 4.43 ERA, but he finished on a high note, posting a 2.05 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB across his final five starts covering 30.2 innings.
Sep 27, 2021
Dominant in win over Detroit
Bubic (6-6) allowed two hits and a walk with six strikeouts in seven innings to earn the win over Detroit on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw hit a season-high in innings pitched in what was his best start of the year. Bubic is ending the year on a high note, as he hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last five appearances. He's posted a 4.52 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 109:59 K:BB across 123.1 innings overall. Bubic is projected to make his last start of the season versus Minnesota next weekend.
Sep 19, 2021
Secures fifth win
Bubic (5-6) earned the win over Seattle on Saturday, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing one run on two hits and four walks while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was somewhat wild in the outing -- he threw only 57 of 97 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with four free passes -- but he was able to limit the damage by holding the Mariners to just two hits. The strong outing continued a recent stretch of effective performances by the left-hander, who has notched a 2.84 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 19 innings in September. He'll look to continue rolling in his next start, which is projected to be a favorable matchup at Detroit next weekend.

Strikes out six in no-decision
Bubic allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against the Twins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic began Sunday by allowing a leadoff double to Byron Buxton who eventually came around to score. He quieted the Twins' bats over the next few frames before running into some trouble in the sixth. Two singles and a walk would load the bases before Bubic's day was done. Two of the runners he left stranded would come in to score on a double by Brent Rooker. The 23-year-old hasn't picked up a decision since Aug. 21, which was the last time he managed to pitch to six innings. Bubic owns a 4.99 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 101:54 K:BB over 110 innings this season. He lines up for a home start against the Mariners next weekend.
Sep 6, 2021
Solid in no-decision Monday
Bubic didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 3-2 win over the Orioles, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
After working two innings in a relief appearance Thursday, it was thought Bubic would have a limited workload in his next start, but the southpaw tossed 95 pitches (61 strikes) before exiting. While he provided a solid line, he was on the hook for his seventh loss before the Royals took their only lead of the game in the eighth inning. Bubic will carry a 5.07 ERA and 95:53 K:BB through 104.2 innings into his next outing.

Slots back into rotation
Bubic is slated to start Monday's game against the Orioles, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following his 15th start of the season Aug. 27, Bubic moved back to the bullpen this past week, making a two-inning relief appearance in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Cleveland. With Jakob Junis (shoulder) recently joining Brad Keller (lat) on the injured list and with Daniel Lynch's status uncertain due to a finger injury, Bubic will move back into Kansas City's six-man rotation as it begins a four-game set in Baltimore. Bubic tentatively lines up for a two-start week, with his second turn set to come Sept. 12 in Minnesota.
Sep 3, 2021
Logs two relief innings
Bubic allowed a run on one hit and two walks with three strikeouts in two innings during Thursday's 4-2 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Bubic lined up to start Friday versus the White Sox, but his turn in the rotation has been skipped after his Thursday relief appearance. The southpaw had an awful August, posting a 7.15 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 22.2 innings across five starts. After Thursday, his ratios have inflated to a 5.16 ERA and 1.53 WHIP with a 91:52 K:BB. A 4.7 BB/9 rate is not going to generate much success in general. Per Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star, Bubic is expected to return to the rotation next week on short rest by starting Monday versus lowly Baltimore.
Aug 28, 2021
Falters versus Seattle
Bubic pitched 4.1 innings against Seattle on Friday, allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks while striking out six. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw entered the contest with some momentum after a strong outing against the Cubs, but he couldn't keep things going Friday. Bubic tied his season highs with nine hits and four walks while completing less than five innings for the third time in his past four starts. Only two of the hits against him went for extra bases, but the volume of singles and walks was enough to force Bubic into an early exit. He'll try to straighten things out in his next start, which is likely to take place at home versus the White Sox next weekend.

Fans nine in win over Cubs
Bubic (4-6) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Cubs, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out a season-high nine.
ANALYSIS
The young southpaw took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before a 34-minute rain delay derailed his momentum, and he served up a two-run blast to Patrick Wisdom once play resumed in the seventh. Bubic bounced back in fine fashion from a seven-run disaster in his last outing, but performances like Saturday's have been the norm for him since the All-Star break as he has five quality starts in his last seven trips to the mound. Over that stretch, he sports a 4.21 ERA and 34:16 K:BB through 36.1 innings.
Aug 15, 2021
Bounced in second inning
Bubic (3-6) allowed seven runs on nine hits and a walk over 1.1 innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was hit hard right out of the gate Sunday, allowing three runs in the first inning as the Cardinals brought all nine starters to the plate. He then coughed up four more runs in the second, including homers by Nolan Arenado and Tyler O'Neill. The 23-year-old southpaw tossed 56 pitches as his season ERA shot up from 4.43 to 5.09 through 86.2 innings. Bubic had given up seven runs over 22.2 innings (2.78 ERA) over his four previous starts. He's lined up to face the Cubs on the road next weekend.
Aug 8, 2021
Walks four in short outing
Bubic allowed one run on four hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in Sunday's win over St. Louis. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Surprisingly, despite the inefficient outing, the only run to score on Bubic was a leadoff homer by Dylan Carlson to start the game. On the bright side, it was his fifth straight start allowing three or fewer runs, lowering his season ERA to 4.43 through 85.1 frames. The 23-year-old southpaw has just one win over his last nine starts and still owns a 3-5 record. Bubic is projected to face St. Louis at home next weekend.

Aug 4, 2021
Strikes out eight in loss
Bubic (3-5) allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across six innings to take the loss Tuesday against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was hurt by the long ball, as all three of the earned runs against him came on home runs. However, he was otherwise solid, both limiting baserunners and racking up strikeouts. Bubic has quietly put together four consecutive quality starts, during which he's allowed eight earned runs across 24 innings while striking out 20 and walking nine. While not dominant, he's seemingly moved past his early season struggles, when he posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across his first 56.2 frames.
Jul 29, 2021
Tosses six strong innings
Bubic did not factor in the decision against the White Sox on Wednesday. He completed six innings and allowed two runs one five hits and one walk while striking out three.
ANALYSIS
For four innings, Bubic went toe-to-toe with White Sox starter Lucas Giolito in a scoreless contest. However, Chicago finally broke through for two runs against Bubic in the fifth frame. The left-hander exited the contest in line for a loss but received a reprieve when Salvador Perez tied the game with a solo homer in the ninth inning. Bubic has hurled exactly six innings in each of his past three starts, posting a standout 2.00 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over that stretch. His 12:6 K:BB across those 18 innings portends some regression, but it is worth noting that he has been taken deep only once over the trio of appearances. He's tentatively slated to make another start in a rematch against the White Sox -- this time on the road -- early next week.
Jul 23, 2021
Solid start in win
Bubic (3-4) allowed a run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six innings to earn the win Friday over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
After covering six innings of relief last Thursday, Bubic reentered Kansas City's rotation and delivered a similar workload. He was able to limit the damage to a third-inning solo home run by Willi Castro. The southpaw has seen a versatile role this year with nine of his 17 appearances being starts, and he's posted a 4.72 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 57:35 K:BB across 68.2 innings. If he's needed to cover for Brady Singer (shoulder) or Danny Duffy (forearm) again, Bubic tentatively lines up to face the White Sox next week.
Jul 21, 2021
Rejoins rotation
Royals manager Mike Matheny said Bubic will start Friday's game against the Tigers, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic opened the second half in a bullpen role for Kansas City, but he'll reclaim a spot in the rotation after the Royals placed Danny Duffy (forearm) and Brady Singer (shoulder) on the injured list Tuesday. After Singer lasted only two innings in his most recent start Saturday, Bubic impressed in long relief, giving up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out five in six frames. Bubic is thus sufficiently stretched out to handle a starter's workload as he slots back into the rotation.
Jul 18, 2021
Logs six innings of relief
Bubic allowed a run on two hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings during Saturday's loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Bubic has now made half of his 16 appearances out of the bullpen, although he essentially saw a starter's workload Saturday after Brady Singer was ineffective. Bubic has a 5.03 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 53:33 K:BB in 62.2 innings overall, and he may be poised for a versatile role to begin the second half of the season.
Jul 11, 2021
Not starting Sunday
Bubic will not start Sunday's game against Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic previously lined up to take the ball for the series finale, but Kansas City will turn to Carlos Hernandez instead. Bubic could be an option out of the bullpen Sunday, though the club has yet to comment on that possibility. The left-hander has struggled mightily in both relief and starting roles dating back to June 6, allowing 29 earned runs on 41 hits across 27 innings. It's unclear at this point what his role will be following the All-Star break, if he has one at all with the big club.
Jul 7, 2021
Struggles again versus Reds
Bubic allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4.1 innings versus Cincinnati on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was spared from a third straight loss as Kansas City rallied for a walkoff win in the ninth inning. The southpaw has stilled allowed 13 runs across his last nine innings. He's posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 48:30 K:BB across 56.2 innings overall in a versatile role that has seen him start eight of his 15 appearances. The 23-year-old tentatively lines up for a weekend start versus Cleveland.
Jul 2, 2021
Hit hard by Red Sox
Bubic (2-4) allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three across four innings to take the loss Thursday against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Bubic surrendered three home runs in his short outing, which accounted for all five of his earned runs. It's unclear what the outing may do to Bubic's role going forward, as he had pitched out of the bullpen in his most recent appearances prior to Thursday's start. He hasn't found much success in either role this season, as he has a 4.99 ERA with a 44:27 K:BB across 52.1 frames.
Jun 30, 2021
Starting Thursday
Bubic will start Thursday's game against the Red Sox, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic had taken on a bullpen role recently, and he allowed three runs on three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning to take the loss in his most recent appearance. However, he'll take the mound to begin Wednesday's series finale against the Red Sox. The southpaw has posted a 6.67 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 29.2 innings across his last eight outings, but he could remain in the rotation after Thursday's start if he pitches well.
Jun 26, 2021
Struggles in relief
Bubic (2-3) was tagged with the loss in relief Saturday against Texas after allowing three runs on three hits and two walks across two-thirds of an inning. He didn't strike out anyone.
ANALYSIS
Bubic entered the game in the second inning after Kyle Zimmer pitched a scoreless opening frame, but he was unable to complete the inning and was lifted after tossing 40 pitches (21 strikes) and putting Kansas City down by three runs. Bubic's last two outings have come off the bullpen and it remains to be seen whether he'll return to the rotation any time soon. He's been struggling this month, though, as he owns a disastrous 9.40 ERA across six June appearances (18.2 innings).
Jun 23, 2021
Works in relief
Bubic struck out two over 2.1 perfect innings in relief Tuesday in the Royals' 6-5 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
When starter Brady Singer was pulled midway through the bottom of the fourth after racking up 96 pitches, Bubic stepped in to get the Royals through the middle innings. The Royals will add another starter to the mix Wednesday when Danny Duffy (forearm) returns from the injured list, but his arrival won't necessarily close the door on Bubic sticking in the rotation. The decision on the team's No. 5 starter will likely come down to Bubic or Jackson Kowar, who also worked out of the bullpen in his most recent outing following a pair of disastrous starts to begin his big-league career.
Jun 19, 2021
Collects second win
Bubic (2-2) allowed two runs on five hits and a walk and struck out two in 2.2 innings, earning the win Friday versus Boston.
ANALYSIS
Bubic followed opener Kyle Zimmer and the former left the game with Kansas City ahead. The 23-year-old Bubic has still struggled in June with 17 runs (16 earned) allowed over 15.2 innings across four appearances. The southpaw has a 4.17 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 39:22 K:BB across 45.1 innings this year. If Kansas City gets back on a normal rotation, Bubic projects for a start versus the Yankees next week. The status of Brady Singer (shoulder) will likely play a large part in the team's pitching plans in the near term.
Jun 18, 2021
Won't start Saturday
Bubic will not start Saturday's game against the Red Sox and will be available out of the bullpen beginning Friday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Bubic originally lined up to take the ball Saturday, but the Royals have opted to skip him and Jackson Kowar with the club having an off day Thursday and another off day Monday. Both Bubic and Kowar will be available out of the bullpen Friday and it's not clear what the Royals are planning to do with their rotation past this weekend. Brad Keller and Mike Minor will move up to start Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Jun 13, 2021
Shelled in loss Sunday
Bubic (1-2) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five across 4.2 innings, taking the loss to the Athletics on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic surrendered three solo home runs, one by Matt Chapman in the first inning and two off the bat of Matt Olson. The 23-year-old has struggled mightily as of late, allowing 14 runs in his last 12 innings over three starts. His ERA has jumped to 4.01 and his WHIP is 1.43. He will look to turn the tide in his next scheduled start Saturday against the Red Sox.
Jun 9, 2021
Shelled in first loss
Bubic (1-1) allowed six earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four across four innings, taking the loss to the Angels on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic struggled Tuesday, allowing a career-high four home runs in a single start. He has surrendered six long balls over his last three starts, after he went 26.2 innings without allowing a home run to start the season. The 23-year-old has had a strong start to his season, with his ERA raising from 2.12 to 3.32 after this performance against the Angels. He will look to get back on track in his next start Sunday in Oakland.
Jun 4, 2021
Mediocre in no-decision
Bubic allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out six across 4.1 innings in the win over the Twins on Thursday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic struggled to settle in Thursday, as he was pulled early with one out in the fifth inning on 87 pitches. He allowed a first inning home run to Josh Donaldson and a pair of doubles. This was Bubic's worst appearance since moving into the starting rotation. It wasn't a terrible outing by any means, but it was his shortest start of the season. The 23-year-old has a 2.12 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP with 28 punchouts in 34 innings.
May 29, 2021
Sharp in first win
Bubic (1-0) picked up the win in Friday's 8-3 victory over the Twins, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
A solo shot by Mitch Garver in the fourth inning was the only blemish on Bubic's line. The young southpaw tossed 98 pitches (59 strikes) while delivering his second quality start in three outings since moving into the rotation, and he'll carry a 1.52 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through 29.2 innings into his next start.
May 23, 2021
Decent in no-decision
Bubic allowed two runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings versus Detroit on Sunday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw left the game on the hook for the loss after a shaky first inning, but Kansas City came back to win with a Carlos Santana walkoff home run. Bubic wasn't as sharp as he had been in his first start of the season last Tuesday, but he was reasonably effective. The 23-year-old has a 1.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 17:12 K:BB across 23.2 innings overall. He lines up to face the Twins next week.
May 19, 2021
Impresses in first start of 2021
Bubic threw six shutout innings Tuesday against the Brewers but was not involved in the decision. He allowed just one hit while walking two hitters and striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was brilliant in his first start of the season and had the Brewers' hitters fooled with his frequent usage of a fastball-changeup combination. He induced plenty of weak contact but unfortunately couldn't get the win as the Royals weren't able to break the 0-0 tie until the eighth inning. The 23-year-old now owns a 0.96 ERA and 14:9 K:BB over 18.2 innings and should figure to stick in the rotation for the time being after this impressive performance. His next start is projected to be early next week against the Rays.
May 17, 2021
Gets another look in rotation
Bubic is listed as the Royals' starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Due to off days over the next two Mondays and Sunday, the Royals could have gotten by with a four-man rotation until May 29 in Minnesota, but manager Mike Matheny has instead decided to give Bubic a look as the No. 5 starter. He'll join the rotation as a replacement for Daniel Lynch, who was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after failing to escape the third inning in a May 13 loss to Detroit. Bubic worked behind Lynch in long relief that day, striking out six over five scoreless frames. Bubic tossed 80 pitches in that outing, so he should be relatively stretched out heading into what will be his first start in the big leagues this season.
May 14, 2021
Tosses five scoreless innings
Bubic allowed three hits and four walks with six strikeouts over five scoreless innings in Thursday's 4-3 loss to Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Bubic has worked well in a long-relief role -- he hasn't allowed a run in his last 11.2 innings across three appearances. The southpaw has a 1.42 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB across 12.2 innings overall. Bubic has experience as a starter, but he's walking a few too many batters to be truly dominant. Nonetheless, he could be an option for a spot start should such a situation arise.
May 8, 2021
Solid in long relief outing
Bubic pitched 5.2 shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks with two strikeouts during Saturday's 9-1 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Starter Daniel Lynch couldn't make it through the first inning, so Bubic was eventually called upon to fulfill a long-relief assignment. He did so admirably in the longest of his three appearances this season. The 23-year-old worked as a starter in 2020, posting a 4.32 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 50 innings. This year, he's at a 2.35 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and four strikeouts in 7.2 innings. If Lynch is removed from the rotation, Bubic could be a candidate for the fifth starter job.
May 3, 2021
Sloppy in season debut
Bubic allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout over one inning in Sunday's 13-4 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Bubic made his season debut Sunday, but Kansas City was outmatched in the game. The 23-year-old Bubic pitched to a 4.32 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 50 innings last season. He worked as a starter in 2020, but he's expected to fill a bullpen role for now.
May 1, 2021
Recalled by Kansas City
Bubic was recalled from the Royals' alternate training site Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was sent to the alternate training site in mid-March after he posted an 8.59 ERA and 2.45 WHIP in 7.1 innings this spring. The left-hander made 10 starts for Kansas City in 2020 and recorded a 4.32 ERA and 49:22 K:BB in 50 innings. While Bubic could fill in as a starter if Brady Singer (heel) misses time, he'll likely be available as a reliever in the near future.
Mar 19, 2021
Sent to Triple-A
Bubic was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old was competing for a spot in Kansas City's starting rotation but will open the season in the minors. Bubic made his big-league debut for the Royals last season and had a 4.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 49:22 K:BB over 50.0 innings (10 starts).
Sep 25, 2020
Takes no-decision
Bubic did not factor into the decision during Thursday's win against Detroit, surrendering four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three across 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was mainly hurt by the long ball, giving up a two-run home run to Willi Castro in the third inning, then a two-run blast to Miguel Cabrera in the fifth. The southpaw left the game with the score knotted, 4-4, and fortunately the Royals soon surged ahead for good. Bubic wraps up the regular season with a 1-6 record, 4.32 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across 10 starts.
Sep 20, 2020
Strikes out seven
Bubic (1-6) allowed one run (none earned) on one hit and four walks while striking seven out to take the loss Saturday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was a tough-luck loser with the only run he allowed coming on a throwing error by Nicky Lopez. The only downside to his outing was the four free passes, as only 59 of his 101 pitches found the strike zone. Bubic had shown better command of his pitches of late, walking only five batters across his last 17.1 frames prior to Saturday's start. Through 45.1 total innings, Bubic has maintained a 3.97 ERA with a 44:19 K:BB. He'll make the final start of his rookie campaign Thursday against Detroit.
Sep 17, 2020
Start pushed to Saturday
Bubic will start Saturday's game against the Brewers, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Danny Duffy (disciplinary reasons) will rejoin the rotation for Friday's series opener, pushing Bubic back to Saturday. The 23-year-old has a 4.50 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB through 40 innings during his first year in the majors.
Sep 16, 2020
Starting Friday
Bubic will start Friday in Milwaukee, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Danny Duffy (disciplinary reasons) keeps getting pushed back, so Bubic will get the ball Friday. This will be his penultimate start of the year, with his final turn coming next week against the Cardinals.
Sep 12, 2020
Logs first win
Bubic tossed five innings of one-run baseball on Friday, allowing six hits and walking two during the Royals win over the Pirates. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Bubic picked up his first MLB win and increased the Royals' win streak to four. A bonafide top-10 prospect from the Royals' system, Bubic has begun to find a rhythm, allowing less than three runs and lasting at least five innings in three consecutive starts.
Sep 6, 2020
Remains winless in 2020
Bubic (0-5) allowed five runs (two earned) on four hits (two home runs) and a walk while striking out four across seven innings Saturday as he was dealt his fifth loss of the season.
ANALYSIS
Things got ugly early for Bubic when Jose Abreu took him deep in the first for a quick 2-0 White Sox lead. He later would serve up his second home run of the game in the fifth after Maikel Franco extended the inning with a throwing error, leading to Yasmani Grandal's fifth long ball of the season the very next batter. Aside from giving up the two home runs, Bubic lasted a career-best seven innings while throwing 74 of his 106 pitches for strikes. The southpaw is set to take the mound Friday in a favorable matchup against the Pirates.
Aug 30, 2020
Strikes out eight
Bubic allowed two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight across 5.1 innings Sunday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Bubic racked up a career-best strikeout total, generating 15 called strikes and 17 swinging strikes on 106 total pitches. He gave up one run in the second and third innings, but rebounded to turn in the solid outing. Bubic has now surrendered two earned runs in four of his six starts this season, though he has struggled to pitch deep into games. As a result, he has a 5.46 ERA with a 27:12 K:BB across 28 frames. He's in line to draw his next start Friday in a rematch against the White Sox.
Aug 23, 2020
Allows four runs in loss
Bubic (0-4) took the loss Sunday against the Twins, allowing four runs on nine hits and two walks across 3.1 innings pitched. He did not record a strikeout.
ANALYSIS
Bubic has now been the losing pitcher in four of his five starts to start his big-league career. The Twins jumped on him for two runs in the first and added two more in the third. The left-hander will carry a 5.96 ERA into his next start, which is scheduled to come Saturday against the White Sox.
Aug 17, 2020
Takes loss
Bubic (0-3) allowed two earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings to take the loss Monday against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Bubic was fairly effective through three innings, holding the Twins scoreless while allowing only two singles and a walk. However, he allowed a solo home run to lead off the fourth frame and subsequently walked two batters and surrendered a single to account for his two earned runs. Due to relatively poor starts in consecutive outings, Bubic's ERA has risen to 5.12, though he has managed to punch out 19 batters across 19.1 innings in his rooei season. He won't get a reprieve in his next start, he is currently projected to face the Twins again on Sunday.
Aug 12, 2020
Surrenders five runs
Bubic allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings during Tuesday's extra-inning loss to the Reds. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old gave up seven hits and five runs (four earned) combined over his first two starts, but the Reds matched those totals during Tuesday's contest, though he was taken off the hook for the loss. Bubic has a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB through 15 innings and lines up to pitch Monday at Minnesota.
Aug 6, 2020
Fans six in loss
Bubic (0-2) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a loss to the Cubs on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Bubic more than held his own in his second career start, and in fact finished with more swinging strikes (13) than his counterpart, Yu Darvish (11). However, the 22-year-old lefty did not get any support from his offense and is now 0-2 despite a 3.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 10 innings (all at home). Bubic will be put to the test in his next two starts: at Cincinnati and then at Minnesota.
Aug 1, 2020
Makes one mistake in MLB debut
Bubic (0-1) took the loss Friday as the Royals fell 3-2 to the White Sox, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk over four innings. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Making his big-league debut, Bubic threw 45 of 76 pitches for strikes and mostly looked like he belonged in the Show, but he caught too much of the plate with a second-inning changeup that Adam Engel deposited over the left-field wall for a three-run shot. The young southpaw will stick in the rotation for now, with his next outing scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Cubs.
Jul 31, 2020
Contract selected by Royals
Bubic's contract was selected by the Royals on Friday.

Manager Mike Matheny said Thursday that the team would promote the 22-year-old to their major-league roster, and the Royals made the move official Friday. Bubic led the minors with 185 strikeouts over 149.1 innings last season and will now await a potential major-league debut. While the southpaw has had success at the lower levels of the minors, he may not generate the same results right away while continuing to develop in the majors.

Moving up to majors
Royals manager Mike Matheny said that Bubic will be promoted from the team's alternate training site to start Friday's home opener against the White Sox, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After one of the Royals' top pitching prospects in Brady Singer previously broke summer camp as a member of the big-league rotation, Kansas City won't wait long to bring another one of its more well-regarded young arms up for his MLB debut. Bubic's callup is more unexpected, as the 22-year-old lefty has yet to even pitch at the Double-A level. He was highly impressive while splitting time between Low-A Lexington and High-A Wilmington in 2019, leading the entire minor leagues in strikeouts (185) in just 149.1 innings. Bubic may continue to induce swings and misses at a decent clip in the majors, but expect some rough patches in light of his lack of high-level experience.
