Solid in no-decision
Gilbert allowed two runs on three hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was better than the line suggests -- two of the three hits he allowed were solo home runs to Leody Taveras and Adolis Garcia. The Mariners got him off the hook with a walk-off win. Over six starts in September, Gilbert allowed 16 runs across 35.2 innings while adding a 36:8 K:BB in that span. He is presumably done for the regular season, ending at a 3.73 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 189:36 K:BB over a career-high 190.2 innings in 32 starts. Should the Mariners force their way into the playoffs, Gilbert would likely take the mound during the wild-card series.

Gets no run support in loss
Gilbert (13-7) took the loss against Texas on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert wasn't exactly impressive in the outing, notching twice as many walks (four) as punchouts (two), though one of the free passes was intentional. Still, the right-hander fell one out shy of a quality start and kept Seattle in the contest despite a listless performance by the team's offense. Gilbert was tagged with his second straight loss after going 8-0 over 13 games between July 4 and Sept. 11. He lines up for one more regular-season start, tentatively slated as a rematch with Texas late next week, this time in Seattle.

Yields five runs in loss
Gilbert (13-6) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The loss was Gilbert's first since June 28, and this was just the fourth time in 30 starts he's allowed five or more runs. The Dodgers got to him early, as they scored four times over the first two innings, helped by home runs from Jason Heyward and Austin Barnes. Despite the poor start, Gilbert is still at a solid 3.77 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and 182:32 K:BB through 179 innings this season. He's projected for a road start versus the Rangers in his next outing.
Sep 12, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Gilbert allowed three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was mostly solid aside from a pair of home runs by Logan O'Hoppe that accounted for all three runs on the Seattle starter's line. Gilbert has four quality starts in his last five outings, and he hasn't taken a loss since June 28. He's at a 3.62 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 176:31 K:BB through 174 innings over 29 starts this season. The 26-year-old is projected for a tough home start against the Dodgers this weekend.

Fans nine in 13th win
Gilbert (13-5) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings in an 8-4 victory over the Reds. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander won his eighth straight decision, a streak that dates back to the beginning of July, with another strong performance that saw him generate 37 called or swinging strikes among his 96 pitches. Gilbert sports a 2.89 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 78:11 K:BB through 74.2 innings over the course of his undefeated streak, and his next win will establish a new career high at 14. He'll look for it in his next start, likely to come at home early next week against the Angels.
Sep 2, 2023
Dominant in no-decision
Gilbert didn't factor into the decision in the Mariners' loss to the Mets on Friday, recording nine strikeouts while allowing an earned run on seven hits and no walks over 6.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander served up his third straight quality start but failed to come up with his third victory in that span thanks to the dominance of opposing starter Kodai Senga. Gilbert pounded 67 of his 97 pitches in for strikes while making just one major mistake in the form of a sixth-inning, game-tying solo home run by Brandon Nimmo. He has now allowed three runs or less in six of his last seven turns, a stretch in which he boasts a 4-0 mark, 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 9.6 K/9 across 43.1 innings. Gilbert's next opportunity to get back in the win column arrives in a tough road matchup against the Reds next week.
Aug 26, 2023
Brilliant in blowout
Gilbert (12-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on two hits over seven innings against the Royals. He struck out seven and walked one.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert dominated the Royals on Saturday, needing just 83 pitches to complete seven dazzling innings in a blowout victory. The 26-year-old right-hander's only blemish came on a Drew Waters solo shot in the 5th inning. Gilbert has recorded a quality start in five of his last six outings, compiling a record of 4-0 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB across 36.2 innings during that stretch. Gilbert is projected to make a road start against the Mets next week.
Aug 19, 2023
Picks up another victory
Gilbert (11-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings against the Astros. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert turned in his fourth quality start of his last five appearances, allowing two runners to score despite surrendering eight hits Saturday. The win was his 11th of the campaign -- tied for the 10th most in MLB -- and marked his ninth consecutive start that didn't result in a loss. Over that stretch, Gilbert owns a 3.07 ERA and a 53:8 K:BB in 55.2 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Royals, who chased him after 4.1 innings the last time they met.
Aug 15, 2023
Coughs up four runs
Gilbert yielded four runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings in Monday's loss to the Royals. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Most of the damage against Gilbert came in the first inning when he was tagged with a three-run shot by Salvador Perez. Since the start of July, Gilbert has posted a 3.08 ERA with a 50:7 K:BB across 49.2 frames. Through 24 starts this year, he's sporting a 3.80 ERA with a 143:26 K:BB. Gilbert's next outing is lined up to be in Houston this weekend.
Aug 9, 2023
Dominant in Tuesday's win
Gilbert (10-5) struck out 12 and didn't walk a batter over seven innings of one-hit, shutout ball to earn the win Tuesday over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert's 12 strikeouts were a career high and just the second time he's reached double-digits this season. It was one of his sharpest outings and his third consecutive quality start. The 26-year-old right-hander trimmed his ERA to 3.66 with a 1.02 WHIP and 138:24 K:BB through 137.2 innings over 23 starts. He's lined up for a favorable road start in Kansas City next week.
Aug 2, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over six innings against the Red Sox. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Jarren Duran's two-run homer in the third inning was the lone blemish on Gilbert's line Wednesday. The 26-year-old right-hander has held opponents to two runs or fewer in five of his last six starts -- he's 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in that span (38.1 innings). Overall, Gilbert is 9-5 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 126:24 K:BB across 22 starts (130.2 innings) this season. He's currently slated for a home matchup with the Padres in his next outing.
Jul 29, 2023
Earns ninth win
Gilbert (9-5) allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out five without walking a batter over 6.1 innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert picked up his fourth win in his last five outings, and this was his third quality start in that span. The one knock on his performance was allowing a season-high nine hits. He's given up some lofty hit numbers lately -- he's allowed eight or more hits in four of his last nine outings -- but he was able to work around trouble Friday. The right-hander is now at a 3.83 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 121:21 K:BB through 124.2 innings over 21 starts. He's projected for a home start versus the Red Sox next week.
Jul 23, 2023
Escapes with no-decision
Gilbert didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-8 win over the Blue Jays, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was looking sharp through four innings but the wheels came off in the fifth, as Gilbert served up homers to Kevin Kiermaier, Brandon Belt and Vladimir Guerrero before exiting in line for his sixth loss. Fortunately for the Mariners, they had their own offensive outburst in the seventh. Gilbert hadn't been taken deep multiple times since June 11, and in the six starts between those performances he posted a 2.29 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB through 39.1 innings. He'll look to regain that form in his next outing, which is likely to come next weekend in Arizona.
Jul 18, 2023
Goes five innings in win
Gilbert (8-5) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings to earn the win Monday over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert got a little extra time off when the Mariners reordered their rotation after the All-Star break. He was able to pick up his fourth win in his last five outings, but it was a bit shakier of a performance than usual for the right-hander. He's still allowed just eight runs over his last 34 innings. For the season, Gilbert owns a 3.65 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 111:20 K:BB through 113.1 innings over 19 starts. He's lined up for a home start versus the Blue Jays this weekend.
Jul 14, 2023
Not expected to start this weekend
Gilbert is not currently projected to start this weekend against the Tigers, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Luis Castillo and George Kirby are confirmed for the first two games coming out of the All-Star break, and manager Scott Servais said the team will "likely" go with Bryce Miller (blister) on Sunday. That pushes Gilbert back to Monday at home against the Twins, followed by a second home start next weekend against the Blue Jays. Gilbert has posted a 3.05 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB over his last seven starts (44.1 innings).
Jul 10, 2023
Closes first half out with win
Gilbert (7-5) got the win against the Astros on Sunday, allowing an earned run on three hits over seven innings. He struck out six and hit a batter.
ANALYSIS
Coming off his complete-game gem against the Giants on Tuesday, Gilbert managed an impressive encore performance versus a dangerous lineup. The right-hander got 63 of his 94 pitches in for strikes during his efficient performance, giving wins in consecutive decisions for the first time since late May. The 26-year-old appears to be hitting his stride after a couple of hiccups in late May and early June, as he heads into the All-Star break having surrendered two earned runs or less in four of his last five starts.
Jul 5, 2023
Tosses complete game shutout
Gilbert (6-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing five hits and striking out seven in a complete game shutout against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert bounced back from an eight-hit, four-run outing against the Nationals in his last start with his best performance of the season. His complete game shutout was the first of his career and marked his first scoreless start of 2023. He was incredibly efficient, handing out no free passes and retiring the final 11 batters consecutively to end the game at 105 pitches. The start knocked Gilbert's ERA down to 3.82 after entering the contest at 4.19 and moved his K:BB to 100:19 through 17 starts (101.1 innings). Gilbert's expected to make his next appearance this weekend in a road matchup with the Astros, who've averaged 7 runs per game over their last six.
Jun 29, 2023
Hit hard early in loss
Gilbert (5-5) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert gave up four consecutive hits to open the game, which led to three runs coming across for Washington in the first inning. The right-hander was able to pitch his way out of trouble over the next four innings before again surrendering consecutive hits to open the bottom of the sixth, leading to another run for the Nationals. Gilbert has now allowed at least four runs in three of his last six starts and has failed to record more than five strikeouts in each of his last four. He'll look for better results when Mariners travel to take on the Giants next week in San Francisco.
Jun 24, 2023
Delivers seven strong frames
Gilbert (5-4) earned the win Friday, giving up one run on two hits and one walk over seven innings against the Orioles. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander allowed just two baserunners through six scoreless frames, but Anthony Santander broke through for Baltimore with a solo homer in the seventh. Gilbert has flashed his top-of-the-rotation potential at times this season but hasn't been able to maintain that performance consistently, and he came into Friday having given up five-plus earned runs in two of his previous four starts. He has a 4.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 89:17 K:BB through 86.1 innings this year and projects for a favorable matchup versus Washington next week.
Jun 17, 2023
Strikes out three in no-decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Despite walking a season-high three batters, it was still a nice bounce-back effort for Gilbert, who surrendered six earned runs to the Angels last time out. The right-hander started the campaign strong, posting a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69:10 K:BB through his first 10 appearances (60 innings), but he's given up 14 earned runs across his past four starts (19.1 innings) while recording a modest 15:6 K:BB. Gilbert's next start is lined up for a matchup in Baltimore.
Jun 11, 2023
Crushed by Angels
Gilbert (4-4) allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over three-plus innings Sunday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The Angels jumped on Gilbert right out of the gate, starting with Taylor Ward's solo homer. Gilbert went back out for the fourth inning but left without recording another out. He threw just 58 pitches and saw his ERA shoot up to 4.38 through 74 frames. Gilbert has been tagged with 12 earned runs across 14 innings over his last three starts. His next start is lined up to be at home against the White Sox.
Jun 10, 2023
Start moved up to Sunday
Gilbert will start Sunday versus the Angeles, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was scheduled to start Monday versus the Marlins with Bryce Miller scheduled for Sunday against the Angels, but the two will switch spots in the Seattle rotation. It's made possible by the Mariners having Thursday off, so Gilbert will be pitching on regular rest in the series finale versus the Halos.
Jun 7, 2023
Dazzles in fourth win
Gilbert (4-3) allowed a run on three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in seven innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
After getting tagged for seven runs (five earned) over four innings versus the Yankees in his last start, Gilbert bounced back with his second-longest outing of the season. The one negative was that he issued multiple walks for the third time in 12 starts. Gilbert's at a 3.80 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 79:13 K:BB through 71 innings. He's projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week.
May 31, 2023
Roughed up in loss
Gilbert (3-3) surrendered seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out four in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert's night got started with a 38-pitch first inning during which the Yankees put three runs on the board off a couple of singles, a walk and an error by Eugenio Suarez. He was unable to really get going from there. He wound up allowing a three-run homer to Anthony Volpe in the third and then a solo blast to Greg Allen in the fourth before his day was all said and done. Tuesday was just the second time this season Gilbert has given up multiple homers and failed to reach five innings in a game. His four strikeouts also tied his season low. Still, the 26-year-old currently owns a 6.6 K/BB, which would be the best average of his career and he seems to be getting a bit unlucky as a has a 3.14 FIP in comparison to a 4.08 ERA. His 0.98 WHIP is currently tied for third-best in baseball and he'll look to get back on track next week in a road matchup with the Padres.
May 25, 2023
Efficient in win
Gilbert (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out six over eight innings to earn the win Thursday over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed two of the first four batters he faced to record a hit, with Seth Brown taking him deep for a two-run home run. After that Gilbert allowed just one more single while throwing just 77 pitches (59 strikes) in an efficient start. The right-hander has six quality starts among his 10 outings this season, and this was the second time he issued no walks. For the season, he's at a 3.60 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 69;10 K:BB through 60 innings. Gilbert will likely be tested a bit more in a home start versus the Yankees next week.
May 20, 2023
Strikes out nine in win
Gilbert (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out nine over six innings to earn the win Saturday over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert had a tough first inning, in which he allowed a two-run home run to Matt Olson, but he was able to settle in after that. This was Gilbert's fifth quality start in nine outings this season, and it was the first time in his last four starts he's allowed a homer. The right-hander is now at a 3.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 63:10 K:BB through 52 innings. He's projected for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.
May 15, 2023
Allows three in no decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against the Tigers. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed a run in the opening frame, another one in the third and then couldn't quite make it through the sixth after Andy Ibanez doubled off him with two outs. Trevor Gott allowed the inherited runner to score before he was able to close out the inning. Gilbert wasn't as effective as usual Sunday. He allowed 10 hard hit balls and had a season-low four strikeouts while just missing out on a third consecutive quality start against one of the weaker offenses in the league. Still, Gilbert has allowed three runs or less in six of his eight starts on the year and will take a 3.91 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 54:9 K:BB into his next projected start against Atlanta.
May 9, 2023
Pitches well in loss
Gilbert (1-2) took the loss Monday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against Texas. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert had one of his best starts of the year despite the loss. The right-hander's 10 strikeouts were a season high, and he also tied his season high in innings pitched. The 26-year-old has proven himself to be a dependable option, as he hasn't allowed more than four runs in an appearance this season.
May 4, 2023
Turns in quality outing
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert pitched as well as fantasy managers could've hoped for, keeping Oakland in the park and posting a 3:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The right-hander has proven to be a solid option, sporting a 1.07 WHIP to go along with 40 strikeouts. The 25-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Rangers at home in his next start.
Apr 26, 2023
Gives up four in no-decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against Philadelphia. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies hit Gilbert early, as Nick Castellanos swatted a two-run homer in the first before a Kyle Schwarber single plated Bryson Stott in the third. Wednesday's start marked Gilbert's second straight appearance allowing four runs, while his seven hits given up set a season-high. Fantasy managers saving grace has been Gilbert's reliable strikeout production, as the 25-year-old has recorded at least six strikeouts in all of his appearances so far.
Apr 26, 2023
Confirmed for Wednesday
Gilbert (shoulder) is confirmed to start Wednesday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Heading into the week, Gilbert had been in line to start Tuesday, but the Mariners opted to flip him in the pitching schedule with Marco Gonzales after Gilbert felt muscle spasms in the scapula area while he was working out Sunday. Fortunately for Gilbert, the shoulder issue doesn't seem to have prevented him from making his between-starts bullpen session, so he shouldn't face any major restrictions while he returns to the hill Wednesday on seven days' rest.
Apr 25, 2023
Pushed back due to muscle spasms
Gilbert's start was pushed back to Wednesday because he felt muscle spasms by his scapula while working out Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was supposed to take the hill against the Phillies on Tuesday, but the Mariners will have the right-hander move back a day as a precautionary move. Divish notes that the right-hander threw in Philadelphia on Monday and felt fine, but the Mariners won't take any chances with the 25-year-old. Marco Gonzales is starting Tuesday's series opener in Gilbert's absence.
Apr 25, 2023
Pushed back a day
Gilbert's next start will be pushed back a day and he will now take the ball Wednesday in Philadelphia, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle has decided to flip-flop Gilbert and Marco Gonzales, who will move up a day to start Tuesday. Gilbert will now go more than a week between starts after he allowed four runs over six frames against Milwaukee last Tuesday.
Apr 19, 2023
Fans eight in no-decision
Gilbert struck out eight and gave up four runs on five hits and no walks across six innings during Tuesday's 11-inning to the Brewers. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old appeared poised for a brief outing as he gave up three runs and labored through the first three frames, but he rebounded strong with the only baserunner allowed over the next three innings being a solo homer by Willy Adames. Gilbert generated just eight swinging strikes but kept the Brewers guessing and had 25 called strikes, and he has recorded at least six strikeouts in all four of his starts this season. The right-hander will carry a 3.57 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 28:4 K:BB across 22.2 frames into his next outing, which projects to come next week in Philadelphia.
Apr 12, 2023
Strikes out seven in first win
Gilbert (1-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 6.2 innings in a 5-2 victory over the Cubs. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed back-to-back singles to Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal to start his outing, with the former coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Cody Bellinger, but he settled down after that and retired 12 straight batters, including four consecutive strikeouts, before Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a two-out single in the fifth. The right-hander got into trouble again in the seventh after allowing a leadoff single to Bellinger and walking Patrick Wisdom, but he was replaced with two outs by Matt Brash, who got Mastrobuoni on a groundout to end the inning. Through three starts (16.2 innings), Gilbert has allowed five runs on 14 hits and four walks while striking out 19.
Apr 7, 2023
Strikes out six in no decision
Gilbert did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over four innings in a 5-3 win over the Guardians. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed one run in three of his four innings, but he salvaged his outing with six strikeouts and was let off the hook for the loss as Seattle scored the final five runs of the contest. Across his first two starts, the right-hander has given up four runs across 10 innings and sports a strong 13:3 K:BB.
Apr 2, 2023
Takes loss despite quality start
Gilbert (0-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday against Cleveland, allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was excellent in his season debut, tossing 64 of 85 pitches for strikes and limiting the Guardians to just a fourth-inning run. However, Seattle couldn't manage to push any runs over the plate, saddling the right-hander with the loss. Gilbert -- and his fantasy managers -- nonetheless should walk away from this performance with plenty of positive takeaways, and there's certainly reason to believe that the third-year hurler can build upon his strong 2022 campaign during which he posted a 3.20 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 174:49 K:BB over 185.2 frames. His next outing this season is tentatively slated to be a rematch against Cleveland next week.
Mar 21, 2023
Impresses in Monday start
Gilbert was credited with a win in Monday's Cactus League victory over the Brewers, firing four scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and recorded five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert's most impressive spring training outing yet saw him match the four innings he'd worked his last time out against the Royals, except the right-hander kept his scorecard free of any runs after giving up to two to Kansas City. Gilbert now has a 3.55 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 12.2 innings in Cactus League play, and Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports the 25-year-old was particularly happy with how his new split-changeup continued to progress. "That was probably one of the best days I felt with it," Gilbert said of his new pitch. "If it stays where it was today, I would be thrilled with it for sure."
Mar 6, 2023
Working on new pitch this spring
Gilbert is working on a split-changeup this spring that he unveiled in his Cactus League debut against the Padres on Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks over 1.2 innings versus the Padres, even though manager Scott Servais feels the 25-year-old is the furthest along of the Mariners hurlers experimenting with some form of a splitter at the moment. The right-hander took a major step forward with a 13-6 record, 3.20 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 32 starts in 2022, but he also was unsurprisingly fatigued by the time Seattle's postseason concluded after throwing 185.2 innings during the regular season and 5.1 frames in his one playoff start. Consequently, Kramer notes Gilbert is being eased into his spring training work, and the plan is to keep a close eye on how much live hitting he faces in Cactus League play. "I think they're on track with probably the best idea for what I should do," Gilbert said. "I've been feeling great and bullpens, locked in."

Goes eight innings in no-decision
Gilbert allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over eight innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert pitched well enough to win, but he didn't get the necessary run support. He allowed more than one run just once in six starts in September, yielding eight runs across 36 innings in that span for an ERA of 2.00. His gem Friday lowered his season ERA to 3.20 with a 1.18 WHIP and 174:49 K:BB through 185.2 innings across 32 starts. He is tentatively lined up for one more regular-season start during next week's series versus the Tigers, though the Mariners may opt to hold him in reserve if he figures into their playoff rotation.
Sep 25, 2022
Not sharp but takes no-decision
Gilbert allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings in a no-decision against Kansas City on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert never settled into a groove in the outing, allowing at least one run in each of his first four frames. The right-hander had struck out nine or more batters in three of his previous four starts but punched out only three Royals on Saturday. Gilbert also saw his six-game stretch of allowing two or fewer earned runs come to an end, though Seattle's offense helped him avoid taking a loss. He still owns a strong 3.29 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 13-6 record in his second major-league campaign.
Sep 19, 2022
Punches out 11 in win
Gilbert (13-6) allowed one run on four hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out 11 and earning a win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was locked in Monday, setting new season bests in strikeouts (11) and whiffs (21). He worked through five shutout frames before giving up an RBI sacrifice fly to Taylor Ward in the sixth inning. Gilbert is 3-1 with a stellar 0.78 ERA and 34:5 K:BB over his last four starts. Through 172.2 innings this season, the 25-year-old is sporting a 3.13 ERA. Gilbert is lined up to start in Kansas City this weekend.
Sep 14, 2022
Tough-luck loser
Gilbert (12-6) took the loss during Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Padres, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert surrendered one baserunner in each of the first three innings before permitting two in each of the next two with the lone run coming across in the fourth. Despite the loss, Gilbert held the opposing offense to three runs or fewer for the sixth straight outing, pitching to a 2.08 ERA across 34.1 innings with 34 strikeouts during the stretch. He carries a 3.19 ERA into his next start, tentatively scheduled to come early next week against the Angels.
Sep 7, 2022
Excellent again Tuesday
Gilbert (12-5) allowed five hits and hit one batter with a pitch while striking out nine over six shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert has looked more like he did in April with 12 scoreless innings and 18 strikeouts across his first two starts of September. The right-hander threw 62 of 101 pitches for strikes Tuesday, including an impressive 18 whiffs. He's down to a 3.23 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 151:42 K:BB through 161.2 innings through 28 starts this year. Gilbert lines up for a home start versus the Padres next week.

Dominant against Tigers
Gilbert (11-5) allowed two hits and one walk while striking out nine across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert turned in arguably his best start of the season and tallied nine strikeouts in a start for the first time since May 17. He racked up 17 swinging strikes on 84 total pitches to back the result, and he has now allowed two or fewer earned runs in three consecutive outings. For the season, he owns a 3.35 ERA with a 142:42 K:BB.

Submits quality start
Gilbert allowed two runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Guardians on Friday. He struck out two and walked none.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert dueled effectively with Cleveland ace Shane Bieber, with each team driving in two runs on sacrifice flies against each starter. After an abbreviated start (five innings) versus Oakland last Saturday, it was encouraging to see Gilbert return to the threshold of a quality start. He's still gone nine straight outings without a win, but the right-hander has maintained a solid 3.49 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 133:41 K:BB through 149.2 innings this year. He'll carry a 10-5 record into his next outing, currently projected to be a favorable road start in Detroit next week.
Aug 21, 2022
Takes no-decision Saturday
Gilbert allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Saturday. He didn't walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
For the third time in four starts, Gilbert was unable to complete six innings. He finished Saturday's outing with just 66 pitches (46 strikes), and manager Scott Servais said after the game Gilbert tightened up after getting hit by a line drive, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. It sounds like his early exit was cautionary, so it appears the right-hander should be good to go for his projected home start versus the Guardians next week. Gilbert owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 131:41 K:BB across 143.1 innings through 25 starts.
Aug 15, 2022
Strikes out five batters
Gilbert did not factor into the decision against the Rangers on Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five and walking four over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Although Gilbert did not factor into the decision, he still earned a quality start in the contest, throwing 47 of 87 pitches for strikes and allowing three runs across six frames. The young righty seems to have righted the ship some after allowing 13 runs in his last 9.1 innings, all to the Yankees. After those rough outings ballooned his ERA from 2.78 to 3.47, Sunday's three-run appearance took it up to 3.51.
Aug 9, 2022
Crushed by Yankees
Gilbert (10-5) yielded seven runs on 10 hits and a walk over four innings Monday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert never found his footing Monday as he allowed at least six runs for the second straight start. Josh Donaldson and Andrew Benintendi each collected three RBI against the 6-foot-6 righty. The poor stretch has launched his season ERA from 2.78 to 3.47 through 23 starts. Gilbert is 0-3 with a 6.12 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP over his last six outings. He'll look to turn things around in next week's projected road start against the Angels.
Aug 3, 2022
Struggles in start
Gilbert did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's game against the Yankees, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking four across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was not sharp in Tuesday's game, throwing 53 of 89 pitches for strikes. It was the second time this season where Gilbert finished a game with more walks than strikeouts. The young righty has now allowed 16 home runs across 128.1 innings after three balls left the park in his matchup with the Yankees. He is tied for seventh most home runs allowed among qualified starters. Despite that, Gilbert still has a 3.09 ERA, a 10-4 record and 10 quality starts this year.

Goes six innings in no-decision
Gilbert did not factor in the decision against Houston on Thursday, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert served up a two-run homer to Alex Bregman in the first inning, but he didn't allow the Astros to score again during his subsequent five frames. The right-hander has faced Houston in each of his past two starts and has ended up with almost identical stat lines, allowing two runs on five hits across six innings in each game. He hasn't picked up a win in either outing, though, and remains without a victory since he beat San Diego on July 5.
Jul 24, 2022
Pitches well in loss
Gilbert (10-4) took the loss to the Astros on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking one over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was very efficient Saturday, throwing 63 of 89 pitches for strikes across six frames. The eight strikeouts were a season high for the young righty. Gilbert did not allow a home run in the contest, but the Astros were able to knock in two runs against him, both on doubles. Despite picking up a loss, Gilbert earned a quality start, his ninth of the year. He will take a 2.77 ERA into his next appearance.
Jul 17, 2022
Throws five quality innings
Gilbert gave up one earned run on four hits and no walks while striking out four over five innings in a 3-2 extra-inning win over the Rangers on Saturday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert continued his positive 2022 campaign with five strong innings of one-run ball against the division-rival Rangers. The hard-throwing right-hander now boasts a 2.76 ERA to go along with 10 wins on the season, and narrowly missed being named to the AL All-Star team. Since Gilbert has an xERA 4.17 through the first half of the year, it will be interesting to see if his numbers regress after the break. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against the Astros.
Jul 10, 2022
Not at his best Sunday
Gilbert allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out seven over six innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert took a no-decision for the first time since June 3. The nine hits and four runs he allowed both matched season highs, though it was a positive to see him not issue a walk for the fifth time in 18 starts. The right-hander threw 69 of 99 pitches for strikes, but recorded only nine whiffs. Gilbert has a 2.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 100:29 K:BB through 106 innings this season. He's projected for one more start before the All-Star break, which is expected to be a road matchup with the Rangers next weekend.
Jul 6, 2022
Notches third straight win
Gilbert (10-3) earned the win Tuesday in San Diego after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits with one strikeout and three walks over 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander generated only eight whiffs on 101 pitches (61 strikes) and set a season low with just one strikeout versus the Padres, but he was able to limit the damage against him. Gilbert has won five of his past six outings and has a 2.61 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 93:29 K:BB across 100 innings for the campaign.
Jul 1, 2022
Secures ninth win
Gilbert (9-3) earned the win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out three batters over six innings.
ANALYSIS
In comparison to Gilbert's body of work this season, Thursday's performance was relatively disappointing. He tied a season low with three strikeouts and a season worst with four earned runs, yet the right-hander managed to notch his fourth victory over his past five starts. Gilbert has blossomed in his sophomore MLB campaign, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 92:26 K:BB over 94.2 innings. He's tied for the second in the American League with nine wins.
Jun 26, 2022
One out short of quality start
Gilbert (8-3) earned the win Saturday over the Angels. He allowed three runs on nine hits, two walks and a hit batter with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
The nine hits were a season high, and two of them left the yard, making this only the second time Gilbert's given up multiple homers in a game this year. He fell one out shy of extending his streak of quality starts to eight, but he was still good enough to pick up his fourth win in his last six outings. The right-hander continues to impress with a 2.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 89:25 K:BB across 88.2 innings in 15 starts overall. Gilbert lines up for a favorable home start versus the Athletics next week.
Jun 19, 2022
No help in loss
Gilbert (7-3) allowed two runs on four hits and no walks with six strikeouts in six innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was the latest Mariners pitcher to fall victim to Mike Trout, who took him deep in the fourth inning. With a lack of run support, Gilbert ended up with his first loss since May 17. He's still turned in seven straight quality starts, and he's logged a 2.28 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 82:23 K:BB through 83 innings in 14 starts overall. The right-hander lines up for a rematch at Angel Stadium next weekend.
Jun 15, 2022
Delivers six shutout innings in win
Gilbert (7-2) allowed four hits and a walk with six strikeouts in six shutout innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
It was a low-scoring battle early on, but Gilbert got the support he needed with two-run home runs from Eugenio Suarez and Ty France. This was Gilbert's sixth straight quality start after achieving the feat just once in his first seven outings. It's also the fourth time the right-hander has kept runs off the board. He's now at a 2.22 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 76:23 K:BB across 77 innings overall. The 25-year-old projects for a home start versus the Angels this weekend.
Jun 9, 2022
Earns win after quality start
Gilbert (6-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks over six innings against the Astros. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert walked two batters in the first inning and eventually one came around to score on an RBI single from Yordan Alvarez. The right-hander got tagged for two more runs on back-to-back RBI knocks from Alvarez and Kyle Tucker in the third, but Gilbert was able to settle down after that and notched his fifth straight quality start. Across 12 starts and 71 innings, he sports a 2.41 ERA with a 70:22 K:BB. Gilbert's next start is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday's contest against Minnesota.
Jun 3, 2022
Solid in no-decision
Gilbert allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in six innings, taking a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was solid, but a pair of RBI doubles to Corey Seager and Kole Calhoun in the sixth inning left the game tied when the 25-year-old exited. He had gone seven innings in each of his last three starts, but this was still his fourth straight quality start. The right-hander is cruising in his second big-league season, posting a 2.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 67:19 K:BB across 65 innings in 11 starts. He'll look to improve on his 5-2 record next week in a tough road start versus the Astros.
May 29, 2022
Seven shutout frames
Gilbert (5-2) earned the win during Saturday's 6-0 victory over Houston, allowing four hits with five strikeouts in seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert got better as the game progressed Saturday, putting two Astros on in the first and third innings before retiring the last 10 he faced. The 25-year-old has now gone seven innings in each of his last three starts, though Saturday's game is the first Seattle has won in his last five turns. Gilbert takes a 2.29 ERA and 1.03 WHIP into a scheduled start for next weekend against the Rangers.
May 22, 2022
Lasts seven innings Sunday
Gilbert allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in seven innings during Sunday's loss to the Red Sox. He didn't factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert posted his second consecutive quality start while throwing 70 of his 100 pitches for strikes during Sunday's outing. However, the 25-year-old didn't get much run support from the Mariners and was forced to settle for a no-decision. After accumulating four straight wins between April and early May, the right-hander has failed to pick up a win in his last four starts. Gilbert tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Astros on Saturday.
May 17, 2022
Takes loss despite quality start
Gilbert (4-2) was tagged with the loss Tuesday after he pitched seven innings, surrendering three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine versus the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert gave up a three-run triple to George Springer in the bottom of the second frame, accounting for all the damage against him in the 3-0 defeat Tuesday. The right-hander secured his second quality start of the campaign while also matching his season-high with nine punchouts. After a terrific start to the season where he posted a 0.64 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over his first five starts, Gilbert has allowed 10 runs in 17 innings over his last three outings, leaving his season numbers at a still impressive 2.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 45 frames. He tentatively lines up to face Boston on Sunday.
May 11, 2022
Undone by grand slam
Gilbert (4-1) allowed four earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out nine across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert had little trouble getting through the first three innings, as he allowed only two baserunners and struck out five. However, he allowed a grand slam to Rhys Hoskins in the fourth, souring his outing. Positively, Gilbert induced 14 swinging strikes on 95 total pitches to punch out a season-best nine batters. Gilbert has allowed seven earned runs across his last 10 innings, but he still has a 2.13 ERA with 42:14 K:BB across 38 frames on the season.
May 7, 2022
Coughs up four runs
Gilbert allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks over five innings in Friday's loss to Tampa Bay. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was handed a 2-0 lead after the first inning but it quickly evaporated when he coughed up three runs in the second on three straight RBI singles from Yandy Diaz, Wander Franco and Randy Arozarena. Gilbert had won his previous four starts and hadn't allowed more than one run in any of his first five outings to being the 2022 campaign. After walking just one batter in his first three starts, the 25-year-old has issued 10 free passes over his last three. Gilbert will carry a 1.36 ERA into his projected home start against the Phillies next week.
May 1, 2022
Improves to 4-0
Gilbert (4-0) picked up the win against the Marlins on Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and four walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Even without his best control, Gilbert still managed to hang zeros on the scoreboard en route to his fourth win in five starts. The 24-year-old right-hander has allowed a total of 18 hits in 28 innings this season, and only two of those hits have gone for home runs. He seems to be in the midst of a breakout with a 0.64 ERA early on, though he could stand to up his strikeouts to help stave off the eventual BABIP and left-on-base regression.
Apr 26, 2022
Stellar in win
Gilbert (3-0) earned the victory and struck out seven in 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks in an 8-4 win Tuesday in Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert did not allow a hit through the first four innings and ended up scattering two singles amongst his three walks with only one baserunner making it to second base. Through four starts this year, he has allowed two runs (one earned) and has left each start in line for the win. With a 0.40 ERA and 0.85 WHIP, the 24-year-old is off to one of the best starts in baseball and has not allowed an earned run since the first inning of his first start.
Apr 21, 2022
Hurls 6.2 scoreless frames
Gilbert (2-0) recorded the win against Texas on Wednesday, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings during which he allowed six hits and struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Only one of the six hits against Gilbert went for extra bases, and he finished his outing without issuing a walk for his second straight appearance. The right-hander went exactly five innings in his previous two starts, so his ability to pitch into the seventh and register a quality start Wednesday was a pleasant development for his fantasy managers. Gilbert has allowed only one earned run over his three outings this season, good for a tidy 0.54 ERA. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to take place in Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
Apr 14, 2022
Earns first win of season
Gilbert earned the win after giving up one unearned run on four hits across five innings. He registered four strikeouts and zero walks.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert scattered three hits across four innings and got the first two batters to ground out in the fifth inning before Adam Engel reached second base following an error by Cal Raleigh. Engel came home to score when the subsequent batter -- Jake Burger -- singled on a pop up to short left field, but Gilbert got out of the inning by striking out the dangerous Luis Robert. Through two starts, Gilbert has given up only two runs across 10 innings while posting an 11:1 K:BB ratio. He's tentatively slated to pitch next Tuesday against the Rangers.
Apr 9, 2022
Seven strikeouts in no-decision
Gilbert struck out seven in five innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk in a 4-3 win Saturday in Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
The lone run against Gilbert came from a Luis Arraez solo homer in the first. After pitching around trouble in the second, he retired the final 10 batters he faced. The lanky right-hander left the game with a 2-1 lead. A two-run home run by Byron Buxton off Andres Munoz in the eighth kept Gilbert from earning the victory. The former top prospect finished strong in his rookie season but had trouble with the long ball all year. If he's able to limit home runs, he should impress in his sophomore campaign.
Mar 30, 2022
Step back in second spring start
Gilbert allowed five earned runs on five hits and a walk across 3.2 innings in a Cactus League loss to the Royals on Tuesday. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old had started spring with a performance reminiscent of several of his strong September starts last season, allowing just a solo home run and a walk across three innings versus the Guardians on Thursday. However, matters were clearly different Tuesday, with Kyle Isbel doing the most damage off Gilbert in the form of a three-run home run in the fourth inning. The right-hander should have at least one more chance to get the ship back on course ahead of a regular season that he'll open as Seattle's No. 3 starter.
Sep 30, 2021
Allows one run in no decision
Gilbert allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert got through five scoreless innings before Tony Kemp took him deep to right begin the sixth to finally get the Athletics on the board. Gilbert was able to get two more outs before walking Mark Canha, signaling the end of his day after 92 pitches. The 24-year-old right-hander found his stride during September, accumulating a 2.70 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB over 33.1 innings in six starts. He has certainly shown signs of living up to the hype as one of the Mariners' bright young arms. Gilbert now stands at a 4.68 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 128:28 K:BB over 119.1 innings. The Mariners are right in the fold of things for a potential Wild Card spot and Gilbert could potentially see at least another start if they can secure one of the final two playoff spots.
Sep 25, 2021
Allows four runs in no-decision
Gilbert allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four across 5.1 innings in the win over the Angels on Friday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was set up for the win, but he allowed a pair of runs to score in the sixth inning to tie the game. Max Stassi also went deep off Gilbert in the fourth inning. The pitcher has had a rocky start in his rookie season, but he has a 2.93 ERA over his last five starts. The 24-year-old carries a 4.83 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 124 strikeouts in 113.2 innings this season.
Sep 20, 2021
Fires seven strong innings in win
Gilbert (6-5) allowed just one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings as he got the win over the Royals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert had his way with the Royals, retiring 17 of the first 18 hitters he faced before allowing a double and a single in the sixth to give Kansas City their only run of the day. Sunday was his first win since July 30 despite owning a 2.01 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over four starts in September. The 24-year-old rookie has had some inconsistency this year but has shown enough upside to prove that his future is bright. He now sits at a 4.74 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 120:23 K:BB over 108.1 innings and tentatively lines up for a meeting against the Angels later in the week.
Sep 14, 2021
Fans nine in quality start
Gilbert allowed two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings in Monday's win over the Red Sox. He struck out nine and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert coughed up a solo homer to Jose Iglesias in the third followed by another RBI base hit by Iglesias in the fifth. He completed six innings in a start for the first time since Aug. 10 and has now allowed two or fewer runs in three straight outings. Gilbert maintained his 5-5 record while lowering his season ERA to 4.97 through 101.1 frames. The right-handed rookie is projected to take the mound in Kansas City this weekend.
Sep 8, 2021
Pulled in fifth inning
Gilbert pitched 4.1 innings giving up two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out five in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
The rookie was shaky in this start. In the third inning he surrendered a solo home run to Jose Altuve and an RBI double to Alex Bregman. He left the game in the fifth inning after recording just one out and allowing two baserunners. It was the fourth time in his last five starts that he has failed to reach five innings, compiling a dreadful 8.59 ERA over that stretch. He projects to start next on Monday against the Red Sox.
Sep 2, 2021
Shuts down Astros over five innings
Gilbert held the Astros off the scoreboard for five innings Wednesday while allowing four hits and striking out four. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert, unfortunately, wasn't in line for a win, as the Mariners didn't score their only run of the game until the bottom of the sixth. He did have an excellent performance, however, after blanking one of baseball's top offenses without walking a batter and notching 18 swinging strikes. The 24-year-old had been struggling a bunch lately, allowing 19 runs over his last three starts, including nine runs in a start against the Astros on Aug. 21. Gilbert now owns a 5.14 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 101:20 K:BB over 91 innings. He's lined up for a road matchup against the Astros again next week.
Aug 28, 2021
Struggles again Friday
Gilbert completed four innings against Kansas City on Friday, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Seattle staked Gilbert to a 5-1 lead after two innings, but he allowed the margin to be erased by serving up a grand slam to Salvador Perez in the fourth frame. The right-hander didn't return for the fifth, as he had already thrown 91 pitches. After a midseason run of moderate success, Gilbert has struggled immensely of late, giving up 19 earned runs across 12.2 innings over his past three starts. His control hasn't been the issue -- he has posted a 13:2 K:BB during the rough stretch -- but he has allowed five long balls in the three starts after surrendering only eight through his first 73.1 innings. Gilbert will look to turn things around in his next start, which is tentatively slated to come at home against Houston on Wednesday.
Aug 21, 2021
Roughed up by Astros
Gilbert (5-5) allowed nine runs on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts through 4.2 innings, taking the loss in Saturday's 15-1 shellacking at the hands of the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert needed 94 pitches to get through 4.2 innings on Saturday, as the Astros demolished everything the Mariners' starter had to offer. The big blow came in the third inning when Yordan Alvarez took the 24-year-old over the wall in left field for a three-run homer. After making it through his first 10 starts with a 3.51 ERA, Gilbert has a 7.56 ERA in his subsequent seven outings.
Aug 16, 2021
Lasts four frames against Toronto
Gilbert (5-4) was tagged with the loss Sunday against the Blue Jays after allowing five runs on eight hits across four innings, fanning three.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert gave up two homers in this one and both came in the second inning, as both Teoscar Hernandez and Randall Grichuk took him deep. The right-hander has been inconsistent of late and has gone 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in three starts during the current month.
Aug 11, 2021
Posts quality start
Gilbert got a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Texas, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Facing a dismal Rangers team, Gilbert limited the damage to a single run in both the second and fifth innings to post his first quality start in five turns. The 24-year-old prevented a free pass for the first time since July 8, which is a welcome development considering he walked four Rays in five innings last time out.
Aug 4, 2021
Walks four in loss
Gilbert (5-3) allowed three runs on four hit and four walks in five innings, striking out six and taking the loss in Wednesday's 4-3 defeat against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The rookie required 86 pitches to get through five frames, which was pretty good considering the four free passes. Gilbert has certainly cooled down after his dominant stretch in early July, as he's allowed 10 earned runs in his last 13.1 innings of work. Regardless, the righty has shown tremendous promise in his debut season, posting a 4.14 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 67.1 innings. Gilbert is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Rangers.
Jul 30, 2021

Prior to Friday's outing, the rookie right-hander had gone 22.2 straight innings without giving up a homer. His ERA is now up to 4.04 alongside a 73:14 K:BB through 62.1 frames. Gilbert is projected to face the Rays on the road next week.

Jul 18, 2021
Earns road win Sunday
Gilbert (4-2) tossed 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and two walks to pick up the win Sunday against the Angels. He struck out a career-high nine.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert struck out six of the first seven batters he faced and held the Angels off the board until Jose Iglesias got to him with a two-run single in the sixth inning. The 24-year-old rookie has settled in nicely through his first 11 big-league starts, posting a 3.50 ERA and sparkling 0.98 WHIP to go with a 62:12 K:BB over 54 innings. Gilbert has fanned 23 against just four walks across 18 innings of work in his first three July starts.
Jul 8, 2021
Blanks Yankees through seven
Gilbert (3-2) earned the win Thursday after holding the Yankees scoreless across seven innings. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
After giving up a leadoff double to Giancarlo Stanton in the second inning and hitting Luke Voit in the hand, Gilbert was locked in, retiring 18 Yankees in a row while fanning a season-high eight batters in the process. It was just the second time this year that the right-hander blanked his opponent. He'll take a 3.51 ERA and 0.97 WHIP into the All-Star Break.
Jul 3, 2021
No-decision in Friday start
Gilbert allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings Friday against the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was cruising early on but allowed two runs to score in the third due to a pair of errors in the inning. He got through a clean fourth but then allowed a third run to cross home in the fifth on an RBI double off the bat of Charlie Culberson. The 24-year-old southpaw came back out for the sixth and was able to record two outs but was then replaced by Kenyan Middleton with his pitch count at 101 and a right-handed hitter stepping up. Overall, Gilbert has held his own pretty well with a 4.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB over 41.2 innings. He's lined up for a home matchup against the Yankees next week.
Jun 26, 2021
Rain suspends Saturday start
Gilbert's Saturday start against the White Sox was suspended in the bottom of the third inning due to rain and will resume Sunday. He struck out three and allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert threw 28 pitches (19 strikes), which likely means he'll be replaced when the game resumes Sunday. If he does indeed get pulled, he could potentially return to the mound in less than the normal four days of rest if the Mariners want to explore that option.

Fans seven in no-decision
Gilbert completed 5.2 innings against the Rays on Friday, giving up four runs on six hits and no walks while striking out seven in a no-decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert entered the contest having yielded only six earned runs over his previous 21.2 innings. He wasn't quite as effective against Tampa Bay, though the right-hander did manage to tie his season high with seven strikeouts while inducing 14 swings-and-misses. The rookie's campaign got off to a rough start with two straight losses, but he has avoided falling into the loss column in each of his past five outings. Gilbert will carry a 4.50 ERA into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come on the road against the White Sox next Saturday.

Shines against Cleveland
Gilbert (2-2) earned the win Sunday against Cleveland after tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while fanning six.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert began his MLB career with two straight losses but has bounced back since then, and he's given up two or fewer earned runs in each of his last four appearances -- going 2-0 with a 2.55 ERA in that span. The right-hander will try to continue his excellent run of form in his upcoming start, scheduled for next weekend at home against the Rays.

Earns first career win
Gilbert (1-2) allowed one earned run on two hits and four walks while striking out seven across five innings, earning the win over the Angels on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed a first inning home run to Justin Upton who was the first batter he faced. However, Gilbert fired four scoreless frames through five innings of work. Despite walking four batters, he struck out a career-high seven en route to his first win. The 24-year-old has a 4.98 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and 21.2 innings.

Quality start Monday
Gilbert allowed two runs on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six inning versus Oakland on Monday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert was in line for the win when he exited the game, but Oakland rallied to tie it up in the eighth inning. The right-hander remains in search of his first major-league win, but he's seen improvement in his two starts against Oakland this year, both of which were no-decisions. He's posted a 5.94 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB across 16.2 innings since he was called up on May 13. The rookie lines up for a road start versus the Angels this weekend.

Narrowly misses first win
Gilbert went four innings in a 4-3 win Tuesday versus Oakland, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in a no-decision.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert allowed all four hits and both runs in the second but sent every Athletic's batter dugout in the first, third and fourth other than a Sean Murphy HBP. Manager Scott Servais opted to remove Gilbert prior to the fifth with the top of Oakland's lineup due up despite only 78 pitches. He lines up to try for his first win at home against Oakland on Memorial Day.

Struggles through 2.2 innings
Gilbert (0-2) took the loss against Detroit on Wednesday, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert needed 74 pitches to retire eight batters, and only 43 of his offerings went for strikes. He has now allowed seven runs over 6.2 frames on the campaign. The right-hander has been impressive in the minors, so his struggles so far in the big leagues can likely be chalked up to a learning curve, but he'll need to pitch better moving forward to remain in the rotation. His next chance to take the mound is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday at Oakland.

Four earned in debut
Gilbert (0-1) took the 4-2 loss against Cleveland in his major-league debut Thursday, allowing four runs and five hits with five strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
It was a mixed bag for Gilbert's first start as the four runs and two home runs isn't optimal, but five strikeouts and zero walks are encouraging for the young starter's potential. More run support can be expected as Gilbert lines up to potentially face the White Sox in his next start.

Contract selected ahead of start
Gilbert's contract was selected by the Mariners on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert will make his major-league debut as the starting pitcher in Thursday's game against Cleveland. The right-hander made 26 minor-league starts in 2019 and posted a 2.13 ERA and 165:33 K:BB in 135 innings. Gilbert could claim a spot in Seattle's six-man rotation going forward, especially after Ljay Newsome (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL as part of a corresponding move.

First MLB start confirmed
Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed that Gilbert will be called up from Triple-A Tacoma to start Thursday's game against Cleveland, Lauren Smith of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Two of Seattle's top prospects will be making their MLB debuts Thursday, as Servais also confirmed that highly touted outfielder Jarred Kelenic would also join the Mariners for the start of their seven-game homestand. The 24-year-old Gilbert dazzled across three minor-league stops during the 2019 season, posting a cumulative 2.13 ERA while striking out 165 over 135 frames. The right-hander's deep, four-pitch repertoire and ability to make bats miss is enough to make him worthy of a flier in most fantasy leagues.

Callup imminent
Gilbert will be called up by the Mariners to start Thursday's game against Cleveland, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert will make his major-league debut after he made just one appearance for Triple-A Tacoma to begin the season. During that outing, he gave up a run on four hits and no walks while striking out five in five innings. Assuming he pitches well Thursday, Gilbert could remain in the Mariners' six-man rotation going forward, especially while Marco Gonzales (forearm), Nick Margevicius (shoulder) and Ljay Newsome (elbow) are sidelined.

Could be called up Friday
Gilbert could be recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners haven't yet named a starter for Friday's game against Cleveland, and the team's pitching staff has been dealing with various injuries recently. While the Mariners had been using relievers to fill the six-man rotation, the team hasn't ruled out recalling Gilbert to make his major-league debut. Gilbert made his 2021 debut with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday and allowed a run on four hits and no walks while striking out five in five innings. The right-hander lines up to make his next start Friday, so he would be pitching on normal rest if he debuts against Cleveland.

Not candidate to replace Paxton
Gilbert is still projected to make his major-league debut in 2021, but the Mariners plan on him logging the bulk of his innings in the second half of the campaign despite the rotation vacancy created by James Paxton's season-ending elbow injury, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Scott Servais noted Wednesday that the organization will be careful with all of its minor-league arms, especially those on the cusp of the majors, after they went without pitching in official games all of 2020. As it pertains to Gilbert specifically, the Mariners are interested in the 23-year-old finishing out the season at the big-league level as opposed deploying him at the front end of the campaign and then shutting him down early because he reaches his innings limit.

Reassigned to minor-league camp
Gilbert was reassigned to minor-league camp Monday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert only threw two official innings this spring as the team seeks to manage his workload. However, he pitched well at Double-A Arkansas in 2019 and also impressed at the alternate site last season. As a result, he's nearly major-league ready and should join the team's rotation sometime relatively early on in the campaign.

Done with Cactus League
Gilbert won't pitch in any more Cactus League games this spring as the Mariners seek to manage his innings, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
It's possible Gilbert is already one of the Mariners' top six starters, as he posted a 2.13 ERA and a 31.7 percent strikeout rate in 26 starts across three levels of the minors in 2019, topping out at Double-A. He could make his big-league debut fairly early in the season, but the Mariners have no interest in giving him credit for a year of service time, so that won't happen until late April at the earliest.

Impresses in Cactus League debut
Gilbert allowed an earned run on two hits and no walks while recording four strikeouts in a Cactus League loss to the Angels on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old provided plenty of reason for optimism with his outing against an Angels lineup replete with regulars, and one of his four strikeouts on the afternoon notably came against Mike Trout. Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports Gilbert featured his fastball, slider and curveball during the outing was overcame a bit of adversity by working out of a second-inning jam. "He's pretty close," manager Scott Servais said. "Certainly last year did him no favors and the fact that he wasn't able to pitch in a competitive game. ... But super, super high ceiling for this kid, and I love the way he goes about his business and what his future holds."

Set for Sunday start
Gilbert will start Sunday's Cactus League game against the Angels, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The highly touted prospect will get his chance to face a formidable lineup that should include the likes of Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon, which should serve as a good litmus test for where he is in his development. Gilbert's last time on a mound in a live game also came against the Angels on March 10 of last year before spring training was shut down due to COVID-19, and the right-hander projects to get at least a couple of more starting opportunities before likely beginning the season at Triple-A Tacoma.

Unlikely to make Opening Day squad
Gilbert won't be cracking the Mariners' Opening Day rotation but will join the team in late April, team president Kevin Mather said in a talk with the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club in early February which was posted to the club's official YouTube channel.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports suggested that Gilbert would be given a legitimate chance to compete for a roster spot, but Mather seemed to indicate that wasn't the case. The Mariners can deny Gilbert a year of free agency if they keep him in the minors for a few weeks, and it seems as though they'll be prioritizing that over ensuring that they have their best players on the roster on Opening Day.
Feb 17, 2021
Chance at No. 6 spot in rotation
Gilbert will be given a legitimate chance to compete with Nick Margevicius and Justin Dunn for the No. 6 spot in the starting rotation during spring training, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert secured a spring training invite back in late January, and the Mariners' decision to deploy a six-man starting rotation to open the season gives him an opportunity to make the jump to the big leagues right from the start of the 2021 campaign. It's a development that arguably would have already occurred a year ago had there been a minor-league season, as the precocious right-hander breezed through three levels of affiliated ball as a first-year pro in 2019. Margevicius and Dunn naturally have the edge in big-league experience on Gilbert, but the 23-year-old had an opportunity to gain some valuable seasoning in the team's alternate training site throughout the duration of the shortened 2020 season.

Gets camp invite
Gilbert was invited to the Mariners' big-league camp Thursday, Lauren Smith of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert only has 26 total professional starts to his name, but he's already knocking on the door of the majors. He recorded a 2.13 ERA and a 31.7 percent strikeout rate across three levels in his lone professional season in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic robbed him of the chance of pushing for a big-league debut with another strong campaign in the upper minors last year. Whether or not Gilbert is given a legitimate shot to win an Opening Day roster spot remains to be seen, but even if he isn't, his debut may not be far away.
