Season is done
Gore's season is being shut down Wednesday due to a blister, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a blister on a left finger. He was tagged with four runs against the Dodgers, and that may have been part of the reason. With just a couple of weeks left, the Nationals will shut down the starter.

Lands on IL
The Nationals placed Gore on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left finger blisters, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore's blisters could help explain why he was tagged with four runs in four innings during Friday's loss to the Dodgers. He'll be shut down for the next two weeks which still leaves some room for him to potentially make another start before the end of the year. Joe La Sorsa was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.

Can't keep ball in park
Gore came away with a no-decision Friday in the Nationals' 8-5 loss to the Dodgers, giving up four runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw didn't have his best stuff and got hit hard as a result, serving up a two-run homer to J.D. Martinez in the first inning before Max Muncy and Enrique Hernandez tagged him for solo shots in the fourth. It's the third time in his last five starts Gore has given up multiple home runs, and since the All-Star break the 24-year-old has a 4.44 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB through 46.2 innings as he shows signs of fatigue -- he's already thrown 49.1 more innings this year than he did in 2022. If he stays on turn, Gore's next outing will likely come next week in Pittsburgh.

Activated from bereavement list
Washington activated Gore (personal) from the bereavement list Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore is back on the Nationals' active roster ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mets, but the 24-year-old left-hander is not expected to return to the rotation until Friday's series opener against the Dodgers. Patrick Corbin will start Tuesday versus New York and Joan Adon is lined up for Wednesday's series finale.
Sep 3, 2023
Out until at least Friday
Gore (personal) isn't expected to be activated from the bereavement list until at least Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was placed on the bereavement list last Thursday and can remain away from the team for anywhere from 3-to-7 days. Prior to being deactivated, the young southpaw had been lined up to make his next start Tuesday against the Mets, but the Nationals are no longer expecting him back from that game. The Nationals are listing Patrick Corbin and Joan Adon as their starters for their two-game set with the Mets, leaving next weekend's series with the Dodgers as the more likely target date for Gore's return to the rotation.
Sep 2, 2023
May miss next start
Gore may remain on bereavement list through his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
No official decision has been made yet regarding Gore's status for Tuesday, but Patrick Corbin would be in line to start in Gore's place if need be. Gore was placed on the bereavement list Thursday, and he will be required to return Thursday at the very latest.
Aug 31, 2023
Placed on bereavement list
The Nationals placed Gore on the bereavement list Thursday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore will be required to miss at least three games and no more than seven as he tends to more important matters. Joe La Sorsa was recalled from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move.
Aug 30, 2023
Sharp in seventh win
Gore (7-10) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The young southpaw got tagged for a solo homer by Davis Schneider but otherwise held Toronto's offense in check, tossing 69 of his 106 pitches for strikes. Homers continue to be an issue for Gore, who's served up 10 of them in eight starts and 42.2 innings since the All-Star break, but he still sports a respectable 4.01 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB over that stretch. He's next set to take the mound at home early next week against the Mets.
Aug 24, 2023
Blasted by Judge in defeat
Gore (6-10) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over four innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore left his previous start early due to a cut fingernail and blister, but that didn't appear to be a problem for him Wednesday. Instead, Aaron Judge was the root of the hurler's struggles, as the slugger tagged him for a solo homer in the first inning and a grand slam in the second. The four runs that scored on the latter long ball were all unearned due to a two-out Washington error, keeping Gore's ERA from taking too big of a hit. Still, Gore hasn't picked up a victory in any of his past five starts and has posted a mediocre 4.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 127.1 innings on the campaign.
Aug 21, 2023
Good to go Wednesday
Gore (finger) is listed as the Nationals' probable starter for Wednesday's road game against the Yankees, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore's inclusion on Washington's pitching schedule for the three-game set at Yankee Stadium is an indication that the cut nail and blister on his left index finger presented no issues for him during his throwing session over the weekend. He'll be returning to the mound Wednesday on six days' rest after the finger issue cropped up during his most recent outing against the Red Sox on Aug. 16, when he struck out seven and allowed just one hit and two walks over 6.1 scoreless innings prior to departing.
Aug 16, 2023
Dealing with cut on fingernail
Gore left Wednesday's start against the Red Sox due to a cut nail on his left index finger that developed into a blister, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was taken out of the game after making a pitch way out of the zone, but luckily his injury doesn't appear to be too severe. The 24-year-old southpaw surrendered just one hit through 6.1 scoreless frames Wednesday and should be able to make his next start -- currently scheduled for next Wednesday against the Yankees.
Aug 16, 2023
Exits with trainer
Gore was removed from his start Wednesday against Boston after suffering an apparent injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After Gore badly missed the zone on a pitch during the seventh inning, a trainer came out to look at him and ended up taking him out of the game. It's not immediately clear what Gore is dealing with, but the Nationals should provide more information soon. For now, he should be considered day-to-day.
Aug 11, 2023
Workload to be reduced
Gore will have his workload managed for the remainder of the season as the Nationals deploy a six-man rotation, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old southpaw has already thrown a career-high 117 innings this season, 30 more than he tossed across all levels in 2022. "I was hurt last year, I didn't throw many innings. So that's a real thing that we're going to have to deal with," Gore said Wednesday after his start against the Phillies. Shifting to a six-man rotation will cost the Nats' regular starters a turn or two over the remainder of the season, but if younger arms like Gore or Jake Irvin show serious signs of fatigue in August, the team could re-evaluate the situation when rosters expand in September. After wrapping up May with a 3.57 ERA, Gore has regressed to a 5.64 ERA over his last 59 innings, albeit with a strong 60:22 K:BB.
Aug 9, 2023
Falls to Phillies
Gore (6-9) took the loss Wednesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings in a 7-0 loss against the Phillies. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Gore surrendered runs in each of the first four innings, including three in the opening frame, as the Nationals were no-hit by Michael Lorenzen on the other end in the 7-0 defeat. The 24-year-old Gore had pitched well in his previous three outings, working to a 2.81 ERA over 16 innings. His ERA is now up to 4.62 with a 1.43 WHIP and 134:50 K:BB across 23 starts (117 innings) this season. Gore's currently lined up for a home matchup next week with the Red Sox in his next outing.
Aug 3, 2023
Pitches well in no-decision
Gore did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Brewers. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Gore left a four-seamer over the middle of the plate in the top of the second, which Tyrone Taylor launched into the stands to give the Brewers their first run of the game. However, the lefty settled in after that mistake, going 1-2-3 over the next two innings before allowing just one more run on a Christian Yelich double in the sixth. It marked Gore's first quality start since June 3 and he's now allowed three or fewer runs in three consecutive outings. On the downside, he's also issued at least two walks in four straight and in eight of his last nine.
Jul 29, 2023
Wild in eighth loss
Gore (6-8) took the loss Friday, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the Nationals were downed 5-1 by the Mets. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw put runners on base in every inning, but he kept New York off the board until the fifth, when two straight walks to open the frame set the stage for a three-run blast by Pete Alonso. Gore exited the game having thrown only 57 of 95 pitches for strikes, and he's issues multiple free passes in seven of his last eight outings, posting a 5.11 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB through 37 innings over that stretch. He'll look for a better result in his next start, likely to come at home next week against the Brewers.
Jul 23, 2023
Strikes out eight in win
Gore (6-7) earned the win Sunday, allowing four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings against the Giants. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Gore was sharp Sunday, scattering four hits en route to his third win in his last five starts. The 24-year-old southpaw has tallied eight or more strikeouts six times this season. Gore lowered his ERA to 4.37 with a 1.44 WHIP and 122:43 K:BB through 20 starts (101 innings) this year. He's currently lined up to face the Mets on the road in his next outing.
Jul 18, 2023
Gives up five runs but nabs victory
Gore (5-7) earned the win over the Cubs on Monday, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore was staked to an early lead and gave up just one run through five innings, but he yielded a two-run homer in each of the sixth and seventh frames to lose his quality start. Still, the left-hander pitched well enough to earn the win, just his second over his past 14 outings. Gore had has his share of ups-and-downs this season, giving up five or more runs on four occasions and one or fewer seven different times (though one of those was a rain-shortened appearance his last time out that lasted only 1.1 innings). All of that has added up to a 4.59 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 10.7 K/9, which lines up pretty closely with his marks as a rookie last year.
Jul 7, 2023
Start interrupted by rain
Gore did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings against the Reds while striking out one.
ANALYSIS
Gore only made it into the second inning before the game was delayed nearly two due to rain. He then retreated to the dugout after being relieved by Mason Thompson when the game resumed. The 24-year-old lefty made it through the first inning on just eight pitches before allowing a single to Elly De La Cruz to open the second. Unfortunately his day would end there as he's now been unable to make it through three innings in either of his last two starts, with the latter coming at no fault of his own. Gore will look to get back on track in his next start, presumably at some point just after the All-Star break.
Jul 3, 2023
On track for next start
Gore (finger) is slated to start Thursday's game against the Reds at Nationals Park.
ANALYSIS
Gore failed to escape the third inning and was lit up for seven earned runs on six hits and three walks in his most recent start against the Phillies on Saturday, revealing afterward that he dealt with a blister on his left middle finger. The southpaw didn't express any concern about the abrasion forcing him to miss his next start, and the Nationals seemingly aren't worried either. Gore will look to bounce back Thursday from his disastrous outing last week, which caused his ERA to jump from 3.89 to 4.48.
Jul 1, 2023
Dealing with blister
Gore exited Saturday's start against the Phillies with a blister on his left middle finger, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was crushed for seven runs prior to exiting the game with trainers in the third inning. He will undergo further evaluation, so it remains unclear if he'll make his next scheduled start prior to the All-Star break.
Jul 1, 2023
Exits with trainer
Gore left his start Saturday against the Phillies with a team trainer, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was lit up by the Phillies, giving up seven runs on six hits and three walks in 2.2 innings while striking out three batters. It's possible he can blame an injury for his struggles, but it's possible he's fine and just had a poor outing, as he repeatedly told the trainer, "I'm alright," as he left the field, per Blanco. If Gore has even a very minor injury, however, he's likely to hit the injured list, as the All-Star break begins in just over a week.
Jun 25, 2023
Punches out nine in win
Gore (4-6) yielded one run on five hits and two walks over five innings Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Gore tossed four scoreless innings before the Padres put a run on the board in the fifth frame. He finally got back in the win column for the first time since April 26. In 10 starts between those two wins, Gore posted a 4.53 ERA through 53.2 frames. He lowered his season ERA to 3.89 with a 104:36 K:BB across 16 starts. His next start is lined up to be in Philadelphia.
Jun 21, 2023
Surrenders two homers in loss
Gore (3-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals after allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore tied his season-high after giving up nine hits and allowed two home runs, both to Dylan Carlson, as he gave up five runs for the second time in three starts. He did impress with eight strikeouts, which were his most since he had 11 May 28, but has now failed to win a decision since April 26. The 24-year-old now owns a 4.02 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 95:34 K:BB over 80.2 innings and will look to turn things around over the weekend against the Padres.
Jun 16, 2023
Tosses 5.2 scoreless frames
Gore allowed four hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision against Houston on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gore threw just 51 of 95 pitches for a strike and walked more batters Thursday than he did in his previous three games combined, but he didn't allow any extra-base hits. That helped him keep the Astros off the board, and he finished with his second scoreless outing of the campaign. Since dominating the Royals with 11 punchouts in seven innings May 28, the southpaw has notched just 13 strikeouts over his subsequent 16.2 frames, and he's been inconsistent in that category throughout the season, though his overall 10.5 K/9 is very solid. Gore's 3.74 ERA and 1.38 WHIP aren't exceptional, but the 24-year-old has shown improvement in his second MLB campaign, and he could yet fulfill the potential that made him one of the game's top pitching prospects just a few years ago.
Jun 11, 2023
Yields five runs in loss
Gore (3-5) took the loss against Atlanta on Saturday, allowing five runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three batters over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Four of the five runs Gore gave up came in the second inning, when Atlanta tagged him for a pair of two-run homers. This was the first time in 2023 that the southpaw has given up more than four runs in an outing, and the performance snapped a streak of two straight quality starts. Gore hasn't picked up a win since April 26, and he's posted a 4.71 ERA with a 48:13 K:BB over 42 innings during the drought. He's made some positive strides this season, though his overall 4.04 ERA and 1.39 WHIP are only slight improvements over his final 2022 numbers.
Jun 4, 2023
Takes loss despite quality start
Gore (3-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on nine hits over six innings against the Phillies. He struck out six and didn't issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Gore submitted his sixth quality start of the season but suffered his third loss. The left-hander has avoided a disastrous start thus far and sports quality numbers (3.66 ERA and 1.42 WHIP) over 12 outings, but he hasn't reached his potential yet. Gore's 80:28 K:BB is elite through 64 innings, so if he can find a way to be more efficient and consistent, the 24-year-old could emerge as a top-tier fantasy starter as the season progresses. However, Gore's next start is scheduled for the opener of a three-game set in Atlanta, which should be a tough test for the 2017 first-round pick.
May 29, 2023
Bullpen spoils win Sunday
Gore did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Royals, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out 11 over seven innings.
ANALYSIS
Sunday was just the second time Gore had managed to reach seven innings since debuting last season and his 11 strikeouts were a career high. He racked up 23 whiffs and permitted just one free pass for only the second time this year. When he puts it all together, the 24-year-old has boasted some electric stuff and just needs to show more consistency with the command on his off speed pitches. Gore now owns a 3.57 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 74:28 K:BB over 58 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Phillies next weekend.
May 23, 2023
Shaky against former team
Gore didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Padres, giving up three runs on seven hits and four walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw could have had a much worse night, as San Diego has runners in scoring position in four of the five innings Gore was on the mound, but he was able to escape some of the jams he created. It wasn't the performance the 24-year-old would have liked against the team that drafted him in the first round in 2017, but the Nats got him off the hook for a loss after he exited. Gore's 3.88 ERA on the year disguises a 1.53 WHIP, but his 63:27 K:BB through 51 innings highlights his potential if he can sharpen his control. He next lines up to take the mound this weekend in Kansas City.
May 18, 2023
Fans seven in Wednesday's loss
Gore (3-3) took the loss Wednesday as the Nationals were downed 4-3 by the Marlins, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw tossed 60 of 93 pitches for strikes before exiting, but the Marlins were able to hit him hard when he was in the strike zone, with Jorge Soler's two-run homer in the fourth inning proving to be the biggest blow. Gore's 29.0 percent strikeout rate on the season remains very encouraging, but it comes with an 11.5 percent walk rate. He'll take a 3.69 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 58:23 K:BB through 46.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come at home early next week against the Padres.
May 13, 2023
Inefficient in no-decision
Gore didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Mets, allowing five hits and two walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw's early exit was due entirely to a high pitch count, as he needed 96 pitches (58 strikes) to record only 12 outs and found himself in numerous full counts despite starting 13 of the 19 batters he faced with a first-pitch strike. Gore is far from a finished product yet, but his first full season in the Nationals' rotation has gone pretty well so far. The 24-year-old will take a 3.29 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 51:21 K:BB through 41 innings into his next start, which is likely to come next week in Miami.
May 7, 2023
Bounces back with strong outing
Gore pitched six innings against Arizona on Saturday, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
After lasting just four frames against the Cubs in his previous trip to the mound, Gore rebounded with his third quality start across his past four contests Saturday. The southpaw fell one shy of his campaign high by racking up nine punchouts, and he issued just one walk, his fewest so far this season. Gore has shown marked improvement over his uneven 2022 rookie campaign, posting a 3.65 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 37 innings. If he can work to keep the free passes down, Gore could become an even more attractive option in fantasy leagues, though he's already worth rostering in all but very shallow formats.
May 2, 2023
Can't maintain momentum Monday
Gore (3-2) took the loss against the Cubs on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks over four-plus innings. He struck out four batters.
ANALYSIS
Gore enjoyed his best start of the campaign his last time out, striking out 10 batters and giving up just one run across six innings in a win over the Mets. The southpaw was unable to carry that success over to his start against Chicago, as he gave up a pair of runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth before being pulled. The four runs were a season worst for Gore, while his strikeout total was his lowest of the campaign thus far. Gore has demonstrated some promising progress in his second MLB campaign, highlighted by an 11.3 K/9 and a respectable 3.77 ERA. However, his 1.42 WHIP and 5.2 BB/9 are concerning.
Apr 26, 2023
Dominates Mets
Gore (3-1) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Mets. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Gore earned his third win, accounting for one-third of the Nationals' nine wins on the season. He set a new season-high with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one run to bring his ERA down to 3.00 on the season. After being held to just 70 innings last season with elbow inflammation, Gore has been off to a strong start to 2023, allowing just 19 hits and holding a 35/16 K:BB through 27.0 innings.
Apr 20, 2023
Takes first loss of season
Gore (2-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks over six innings against Baltimore. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Gore has been the best starting pitcher on the Nationals this season, leading the rotation in ERA (3.43), strikeouts (25) and wins. The former Padre is on pace to shatter his total of 70 innings pitched in his rookie season last year, barring any health issues. The former third overall draft pick in 2017 is tentatively scheduled to face the Mets at Citi Field in his next outing.
Apr 12, 2023
Runs up pitch count against Halos
Gore didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Angels, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The strikeouts were impressive, but the southpaw needed 88 pitches to record his 11 outs, and he got the hook after walking in Hunter Renfroe with two outs in the fourth inning. Gore's line would have looked a lot worse had Mason Thompson not bailed him out by getting Taylor Ward to ground out with the bases loaded to end the frame. Gore sports a 3.00 ERA and 18:10 K:BB through three starts and 15 innings, but he'll need to sharpen his control if he's going to maintain palatable ratios. His next trip to the mound is likely to come next week at home against the Orioles.
Apr 7, 2023
Gives up two in victory
Gore allowed two runs on five hits over six innings in Friday's victory over the Rockies. He struck out six while walking two.
ANALYSIS
Gore has pitched well in the first two appearances of the year, and he's picked up victories in both outings. The left-hander gave up a long homer to Ryan McMahon in the second and a run-scoring single to Yonathan Daza in the fourth. Gore now has a 2.38 ERA over 11.1 innings with a 12:6 K:BB. It's easy to understand why he isn't long removed from being considered the best pitching prospect in baseball.
Apr 2, 2023
Picks up victory
Gore (1-0) allowed one run on three hits and four walks over 5.1 innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Gore cruised through three shutout frames before Atlanta finally put one on the board in the fourth. He gave up two hits and a walk during that inning. The 24-year-old lefty forced 13 swinging strikes, including seven on his fastball that topped out at 96.5 mph. Gore is lined up for a start in Colorado next week.
Mar 28, 2023
Starting third game of season
Gore will start the Nationals' third game of the regular season Sunday against Atlanta, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It'll be Patrick Corbin on Opening Day, Josiah Gray in the second game, Gore in the third and Trevor Williams in the fourth. Gore wrapped up his spring with 3.2 scoreless innings Tuesday afternoon against the Yankees, issuing two walks but striking out four. He still carries a lot of long-term upside at age 24, but the former top prospect has some proving to do as he finally debuts in Washington.
Mar 24, 2023
Blanks Yanks
Gore gave up two hits and a walk over six scoreless innings while striking out eight in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw was dominant against a New York lineup that featured most of its Opening Day starters, including Ginacarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo and Gleyber Torres. Gore has a 17:7 K:BB through 20 innings this spring, and the Nationals will be counting on the 24-year-old to become a consistent rotation arm this season after he worked only 87 innings across all levels in 2022.
Mar 18, 2023
Spring struggles continue
Gore gave up five runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Facing a Houston lineup that was a mix of Opening Day starters and guys competing for bench roles, Gore's command wavered all afternoon, particularly against Jeremy Pena as the shortstop tagged him for homers in the third and fourth innings. Gore's talent is undeniable, but until the young southpaw shows some consistency he'll be a risky fantasy option. Through 14 innings this spring, he has a 9:6 K:BB and has served up three home runs.
Mar 13, 2023
Shaky outing Sunday
Gore allowed four runs on four hits and two walks over four innings while striking out three in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Facing a lineup of St. Louis prospects and bench players, Gore didn't seem to be fooling many people at the plate -- three of the four hits off the southpaw went for extra bases, including a Kramer Robertson homer -- as he gave up a pair of runs in each of his first two frames before settling down. The fact that he did battle through and deliver two clean innings before exiting is encouraging though, and Gore finished his day having thrown 65 pitches (38 strikes). The 24-year-old appears close to ready for Opening Day, but his biggest hurdle in 2023 will be to simply stay healthy and take a regular turn in the rotation -- Gore tossed 87 innings across all levels last year, and his career high for innings is only 101, a mark he set in 2019 between High-A and Double-A in the Padres system.
Feb 26, 2023
Looks good in first spring action
Gore worked a scoreless first inning in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, allowing one hit and striking out one.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander tossed 13 of 18 pitches for strikes, topping out at 96 mph with his fastball while mixing in his slider and curve and even tossing one changeup to Paul Goldschmidt. Gore hadn't seen action in an MLB game since last July, so the Nationals will bring him along slowly in camp in an effort to keep him healthy, but the 24-year-old is on track to open the regular season in the rotation. He had an impressive start to the 2022 campaign, posting a 1.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB in 48 innings for the Padres through his first nine big-league appearances, and the Nats believe he can regain something close to that form after picking him up in last year's Juan Soto trade.
Feb 23, 2023
Gets call for Grapefruit opener
Gore (elbow) will start for the Nationals in their Grapefruit League opener Saturday against the Cardinals, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Then it'll be Trevor Williams and Josiah Gray handling the two split-squad games on Sunday, followed by Patrick Corbin versus the Cardinals on Tuesday. Gore did not wind up pitching for the Nationals last season after coming over in the Juan Soto trade, but he seems to be past the elbow issues that caused that delay. The talented 23-year-old might be ready for a full-on breakout if his health cooperates in 2023.
Feb 15, 2023
Healthy for spring training
Gore (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday and appears to be entering spring training as a full participant, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
After being shipped to Washington last July in the Juan Soto blockbuster, Gore didn't get a chance to make his Nationals debut while he recovers from left elbow soreness and inflammation. The 23-year-old lefty was at least able to make four minor-league rehab starts in September, and he likely would have been ready to pitch for the big club in October had the season lasted another week or two. With a full offseason to further heal from the injury, Gore should open camp with a good shot at claiming a back-end spot in the big-league rotation. During his first taste of the majors with San Diego in 2022, Gore submitted a 4.50 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 72:37 K:BB across 70 frames.

Won't return in 2022
Gore (elbow) won't make another start for the Nationals prior to the end of the regular season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Nationals hoped that Gore would be able to make a final start in the majors prior to the end of the season, but he'll be held out due to uncertain weather and a lack of stamina following his absence. However, he feels healthy heading into the offseason and expects to be back to 100 percent in time for spring training in 2023.
Sep 27, 2022
On track for one MLB start
Gore (elbow) is trending toward making one start for the Nationals before the end of the season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore gave up six earned runs on six hits, including three home runs, while walking one and striking out three over 3.2 innings in his rehab start Monday at Triple-A. The young lefty said he felt really good about his first three innings but felt fatigue in the fourth inning. Gore will throw a long bullpen session this week, and assuming that goes well, he will likely make a start this weekend against the Phillies.
Sep 23, 2022
Another rehab start coming Monday
Gore (elbow) will make another rehab start in Triple-A Rochester on Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore has made three rehab starts already in Triple-A while dealing with inflammation in his elbow, allowing just one run over 8.1 innings of work. Monday looks to be his longest outing yet -- up to five innings. Assuming this would be his final start in the minors, he would still be able to make his Nationals debut before the end of the season.
Sep 20, 2022
Next rehab outing Wednesday
Gore (elbow) will make a rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Paul Mancano of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore threw 57 pitches over 2.2 frames in his second rehab outing Friday, and he'll continue building up his workload with Rochester on Wednesday. It's possible the 23-year-old is cleared to return from the injured list early next week, which would allow him to make two starts for the Nationals before the end of the season.
Sep 20, 2022
Works 2.2 frames in rehab start
Gore (elbow) struck out two and worked around four hits and two walks to cover 2.2 scoreless innings in his most recent rehab start Friday for Triple-A Rochester.
ANALYSIS
Gore tossed 57 pitches (32 strikes) in his second rehab outing for Rochester after a two-and-a-half-month shutdown due to his left elbow injury. Per MLB.com, Gore has rejoined the Nationals and is scheduled throw a bullpen session Tuesday in Atlanta, but he'll require at least one more rehab start at Triple-A later this week prior to being activated from the 15-day injured list. Assuming he's free of any setbacks following his upcoming rehab outing, Gore could make one or two starts for the big club before the regular season ends Oct. 5.
Sep 13, 2022
Will make another rehab start
Gore (elbow) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Friday with Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore did not encounter any setbacks while throwing 36 pitches Sunday in the first game of his rehab assignment, and as long as a bullpen session Wednesday goes as planned he will take the ball again five days later. He remains on track to make his Nationals debut before the season comes to a close.
Sep 9, 2022
Rehab start set
Gore (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday and is expected to make a rehab start Sunday for Triple-A Rochester, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old threw 37 pitches over two simulated innings earlier this week and is now set to being a rehab assignment at Triple-A. Gore will likely require multiple starts in the minors before being cleared to rejoin the big-league club, but he could be ready to join the Nationals in late September for a couple starts.
Sep 6, 2022
Nearing rehab assignment
Gore (elbow) threw 37 pitches over two simulated innings Tuesday and was pleased with how he felt physically, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Davey Martinez said Gore will throw a bullpen session in three days, and if everything goes well, he will begin a rehab assignment. There are still some hurdles for Gore to clear in his rehab, but it's possible he makes a couple starts for his new club before the end of the season.
Sep 2, 2022
Throws bullpen session
Gore (elbow) threw another bullpen session Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
For now, the ultimate goal to have Gore return to pitch in games for the Nationals before the end of the season seems to still be intact. Next up, the young lefty is scheduled to throw 50 pitches in a simulated game next week.
Aug 28, 2022
Close to facing hitters
Gore (elbow) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Monday or Tuesday before likely facing hitters in live batting practice later in the week, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Nationals still envision Gore returning from the 15-day injured list as a member of the rotation before season's end, though because of the time he'll need to build back up, he may be able to make only a couple of turns through the rotation. The rookie left-hander had been on the IL since July 26 with elbow inflammation before he was shipped to the Nationals in the Aug. 2 blockbuster deal that sent Juan Soto to San Diego.
Aug 24, 2022
Throws off mound
Gore (elbow) threw off a mound Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore increased his throwing distance to 120 feet last week, and Wednesday's throwing session marked the first time that he's thrown off a mound since joining the Nationals. The southpaw still needs to ramp up his intensity, but the team hopes that he'll be able to return prior to the end of the regular season.
Aug 17, 2022
Close to mound work
Gore (elbow) has been throwing up to 120 feet and could throw a bullpen session as early as this weekend, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore has been on the injured list with left elbow soreness since the end of July, but he's been cleared to begin a throwing program. While the southpaw wouldn't throw with much intensity if he's able to resume mound work soon, he seems to be trending in the right direction in his recovery process.
Aug 6, 2022
Begins throwing next week
Gore (elbow) will begin playing catch at Nationals Park next Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Part of the blockbuster Juan Soto trade, Gore finished his time in San Diego on the injured list with a sore left elbow. The lefty showed flashes prior to hitting the shelf, posting a 2.50 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over his first 10 starts in the big leagues. Gore was a big-time prospect and the Nationals will likely take it slow with his recovery in hopes of getting him back to that early-season form.
Aug 2, 2022
Joins Nats in blockbuster deal
The Nationals acquired Gore (elbow), infielder CJ Abrams, first baseman Eric Hosmer, outfielders James Wood and Robert Hassell and right-hander Jarlin Susana from the Padres on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Juan Soto and first baseman Josh Bell, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was placed on the injured list last week with left elbow inflammation and soreness, but no structural damage was detected and he's expected to continue treating the injury through rest and rehab. Though Gore is unlikely to be ready to come off the IL until September, so long as he avoids surgery to address the injury, the 23-year-old will be a high-upside addition to a Nationals rotation that's currently short on impact arms. After a turbulent, injury-plagued minor-league season in 2021, Gore showed up healthy to spring training and pushed his way on the Padres' Opening Day roster. Gore held down a rotation spot for the better part of the first half and struck out more than a batter per inning, but a few blowups in June and July inflated his ERA and WHIP to 4.50 and 1.47, respectively, before he landed on the IL. He'll look to return healthy by season's end to set the stage for a full-time appointment in the Washington rotation to begin the 2023 campaign.
Jul 29, 2022
Going rest, rehab route
An MRI on Gore's elbow revealed no structural damage and the expectation is that he will be shut down for two weeks before beginning a throwing program, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cassavell says the Padres are very encouraged by the MRI results. There may not be enough time for Gore to ramp all the way back up and rejoin the big club this season, but that hasn't been ruled out. The main takeaway is that Gore will not be headed for surgery, at least not yet.
Jul 29, 2022
Hopes to avoid surgery
Gore (elbow) hopes to avoid surgery, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday and continues to be evaluated by the team's medical staff to determine the extent of his injury. While it seems likely that the southpaw will be able to recover with a period of rest and rehab, it's certainly possible that he spends more than the minimum of 15 days on the shelf.
Jul 26, 2022
Goes on 15-day injured list
Gore (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore left Monday's start with a sore left elbow, and while it's not yet clear exactly what type of injury he is dealing with, he will miss at least two weeks. Dinelson Lamet was recalled to take Gore's place on the roster.
Jul 25, 2022
Nursing elbow soreness
Gore left Monday's game against Detroit with left elbow soreness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore will likely be monitored closely over the next few days to determine his availability moving forward. He'll be considered day-to-day until further notice.
Jul 25, 2022
Departs with trainer
Gore left Monday's game against the Tigers with an unspecified injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore was paid a visit by his manager and the team trainer after appearing to be in discomfort, and he would need to exit the contest. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time.
Jul 22, 2022
Staying in bullpen
Gore will remain in the Padres' bullpen for now, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore shifted to a relief role just before the All-Star break, and the Padres will elect to continue with a five-man rotation for now, likely to limit the workloads of Gore and Nick Martinez. Gore made a relief appearance Sunday against Arizona and allowed two runs on a hit and two walks while striking out one in one-third of an inning.
Jul 14, 2022
Won't start this week
Padres manager Bob Melvin said Wednesday that Gore will move to the bullpen for the team's final four games before the All-Star break, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
San Diego will get by with a five-man rotation this week, with both Sean Manaea and Mike Clevinger picking up a pair of starts during the team's seven-game slate. Gore is expected to slot back into the Padres' six-man rotation following the break, but the week off from starting duty could prove beneficial for the struggling rookie. Over his last five starts, Gore has gone 0-3 with a 10.18 ERA, 2.26 WHIP and 13:16 K:BB across 20.1 innings.
Jul 10, 2022
Surrenders eight runs in loss
Gore (4-4) took the loss during Sunday's 12-0 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing eight runs on eight hits and one walk with two strike outs in 3.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore delivered a 1-2-3 first inning but it was all downhill from there as the rookie served up two-run home runs in the second and third and surrendered four more runs in the fourth before being pulled. It's the second instance in four turns the 23-year-old has permitted eight runs and his ERA has spiked more than 2.5 runs from 1.50 to 4.08 since June 11. The one positive takeaway is the one free pass Gore issued snapped a six-start streak of walking at least three, though he's still averaging a lofty 4.3 BB/9. He'll look to turn things around against Arizona next weekend.
Jul 3, 2022
Limits damage in wild outing
Gore allowed one run on five hits, four walks and two hit batters while striking out three over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gore has walked at least three batters in each of his last six appearances after doing so just once in his first seven outings. For the second straight start, he was able to mitigate the damage despite putting a lot of traffic on base, as he's allowed just one run in 10.2 innings after giving up 14 runs over the two starts before this improved stretch. The rookie southpaw has a 3.18 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB in 65 innings overall, and he'll need to work on reining in his control next weekend against the Giants.
Jun 25, 2022
Fires five scoreless frames
Gore didn't factor into the decision during Friday's 1-0 victory over Philadelphia, allowing three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in five scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore started strong by retiring the first six Phillies but was lucky to strand all seven batters he put on in the third through fifth innings. The scoreless outing is the 23-year-old's fifth in 15 starts, though he's now walked at least three batters in each of his last five turns after totaling 11 in his first 10. Gore owns a solid 3.34 ERA and 1.33 WHIP and will be tested with a road start against the Dodgers scheduled for next weekend.
Jun 18, 2022
Rough outing in loss
Gore (4-3) took a four-inning loss against the Rockies on Friday, allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking out one and walking three.
ANALYSIS
Gore added more than a run to his ERA after allowing eight earned runs, including three home runs, in Friday's loss to Colorado. He lasted just four innings after going 2.1 in his last appearance, also against Colorado. The young lefty had been stellar this season up until his last two games and still holds a solid 3.64 ERA. Gore will look to make some adjustments before his next outing.
Jun 12, 2022
Done in by third inning
Gore (4-2) took the loss during Saturday's 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Rockies in Game 2 of a doubleheader, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks with three strikeouts in 2.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore navigated an easy first inning and permitted just one run in the second but surrendered five baserunner and five runs in the third before being pulled to submit the worst start of his young career. The blip caused the 23-year-old rookie's ERA to spike a full run from 1.50 to 2.50 and was his first start in 10 turns allowing more than three runs. Gore will go for revenge with another start against Colorado set for next weekend.
Jun 5, 2022
Superb again Saturday
Gore (4-1) earned the win against Milwaukee on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 10.
ANALYSIS
Gore was dominant in the start, tying his career high with 10 strikeouts and inducing 14 swings-and-misses. The rookie threw 108 pitches -- his most as a big-leaguer -- and didn't allow any extra-base hits. After seeing his prospect stock drop last season, Gore has turned things around in his first opportunity in the majors, logging a 1.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB across 48 innings. The early Rookie of the Year favorite is expected to make his next start at home against Colorado next weekend.
May 29, 2022
No-decision in dominant performance
Gore didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 4-2 win against Pittsburgh, allowing two hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore shutdown the Pirates offense in throwing 66 of 93 pitches for strikes with a season-high nine strikeouts and an impressive 15 swinging strikes. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, the bullpen let in two runs in the eighth to immediately spoil the rookie's excellent performance. Gore has now held opposing offenses to three runs or fewer in each of his seven starts while allowing just one run over his last 16 innings to lower his ERA to an impressive 1.71. He'll look to keep the momentum rolling against Milwaukee next weekend.
May 22, 2022
Six strong innings in win
Gore (3-1) earned the victory, striking out six over six innings while allowing one run on three hits and two walks in a 10-1 win Sunday in San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
With the Padres already ahead by seven runs, Gore allowed a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning for the only run against him in an otherwise stellar outing. It was the first time the young lefty completed six innings in a game at the major-league level. The 23-year-old has put up excellent numbers to start his career and has a 2.06 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 35 innings, allowing just one long ball. Assuming he will continue in a starting role, his next start will likely come next weekend against Pittsburgh.
May 21, 2022
Starting Sunday
Gore is starting Sunday's series finale against the Giants, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore pitched out of the bullpen Tuesday against the Phillies, and he allowed three hits and no walks while striking out four in three scoreless innings to earn the hold. The Padres haven't announced whether Gore will remain in the rotation following Sunday's start, but the southpaw has certainly performed well this season by posting a 2.17 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 29 innings over six appearances (five starts).
May 18, 2022
Hurls three scoreless relief frames
Gore picked up a hold against Philadelphia on Tuesday by throwing three scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
This was Gore's first professional relief appearance -- before Tuesday, he had started in all 61 of his minor- and major-league outings. The new role didn't seem to phase the 23-year-old, as he threw 30 of 40 pitches for strikes and limited the Phillies to three singles. Gore has been great as a starter this season, posting a 2.42 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 26 innings, but he moved to the bullpen due to the return of Mike Clevinger and the imminent return of Blake Snell (groin). Gore is a candidate to move back into the rotation if the need arises, but he could spend substantial time in the bullpen throughout the season since the Padres will likely look to limit his workload.
May 17, 2022
Set to follow Clevinger on Tuesday
Gore is scheduled to work behind starter Mike Clevinger in relief during Tuesday's game against the Phillies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
At least to begin the week, Gore will be pitching out of the bullpen with the Padres set to return Blake Snell (groin) from the 10-day injured list to start Wednesday. San Diego could move back to a six-man rotation as it begins a stretch of 40 games in 42 days beginning Monday, but it's unclear if Gore or Nick Martinez -- who is also in the bullpen to begin the week -- will be reappointed to a starting role. From a performance standpoint, Gore proved to deserving of a permanent starting role, as he submitted a 2.42 ERA and 28:9 K:BB across 26 innings through his first five outings. However, because he's just 23 years old and hasn't tossed more than 100 innings in a season since 2019, the Padres could be inclined to keep Gore in the bullpen as a means of managing his workload.
May 15, 2022
Next start uncertain
Gore isn't scheduled to pitch during the three-game series against the Phillies, which begins Wednesday, and he could be available out of the bullpen, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old will receive some extra rest coming off Monday's scheduled off day, with Mike Clevinger, Blake Snell (groin) and Yu Darvish set to start in Philadelphia. Gore has a 2.42 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over 26 innings through his first five major-league starts, but it's not a significant surprise to see the Padres showing some caution with his workload after being limited to 50.1 innings last season. The young lefty should rejoin the rotation before too long given his immediate success in the big leagues.
May 10, 2022
Stuck with first loss
Gore (2-1) took the loss Monday as the Padres fell 6-0 to the Cubs, giving up three runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
It was far from a poor effort from the rookie southpaw, who fired 57 of 89 pitches for strikes, but San Diego hitters only managed three hits on the night. Gore continues to impress with his improved control, and through his first five big-league starts he boasts a 2.42 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB in 26 innings. Even with Blake Snell (groin) closing in on his season debut, it will be tough for the Padres to pull Gore from the rotation.
May 5, 2022
Allows one run in start Wednesday
Gore tossed 5.2 innings in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against Cleveland, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out two. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The rookie struggled with his control at times, as he threw only 59 of 100 pitches for strikes and issued a season-high three free passes. He didn't have his swing-and-miss stuff working, either -- Gore induced only four swinging strikes and picked up a mere two punchouts -- yet he navigated his way through nearly six frames allowing only one run. The southpaw's success was largely a result of preventing Cleveland from collecting any extra-base hits against him, and he hasn't served up a long ball since his first start of the campaign. The Padres have to feel good about Gore keeping things under control in a game during which he didn't have his best stuff, and he'll carry a 1.71ERA into his next start, which is slated to come at home against the Cubs next week.
May 1, 2022
Set to make fourth start Wednesday
Gore is scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Cleveland, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore's inclusion in the pitching schedule this week implies that he won't be optioned to Triple-A El Paso when the Padres have to pare down their active roster from 28 to 26 men by Monday's deadline. Additionally, it indicates that the return of Mike Clevinger (knee) from the 10-day injured list to start Tuesday's series opener won't cost Gore his rotation spot either. Nick Martinez is also expected to start Thursday against the Marlins, and his performance in that outing along with how Gore fares Wednesday may dictate which of the two sticks around for what could be a six-man rotation for the Friars. The return of Clevinger gives the Padres six starters, so the team will likely have to move Gore or Martinez to the bullpen when Blake Snell (groin) is potentially ready to come off the IL as soon as May 8. To this point, Gore has soundly outperformed Martinez, submitting a 1.76 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB across 15.1 innings.
Apr 27, 2022
Electric over five innings
Gore (2-0) picked up the win after tossing five innings, surrendering one run on five hits and two walks while striking out 10 in the victory over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Gore was fully in command Wednesday, notching a season high 10 strikeouts while the only blemish against him came in the third inning on a Kyle Farmer RBI double. The rookie was able to take advantage of facing the Reds in back-to-back outings, pitching 10 combined innings and allowing just one run with 17 strikeouts. Through three career starts, Gore has a 1.76 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 20 punchouts over 15.1 innings.
Apr 20, 2022
First big-league win
Gore (1-0) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Gore ran into some trouble in the outing, particularly in the fourth inning when he avoided an earned run only after Joey Votto was thrown out at home. However, Gore also showed long stints of dominance, highlighted by a stretch from the second to third frames when he retired six straight hitters -- four of which came from strikeouts. The end result was his first career win. The former top prospect has now delivered a 1.74 ERA with 10:4 K:BB across his first 10.1 innings in the majors. Despite the strong showing, Gore could lose out on a rotation spot if Blake Snell (groin) is able to return from the injured list after a minimum stay.
Apr 17, 2022
Gets another start
The Padres list Gore as their probable starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Reds in San Diego, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With both Blake Snell (groin) and Mike Clevinger (knee) set to remain on the injured list during the upcoming week, Gore will receive at least one more turn through San Diego's rotation. The 23-year-old lefty didn't make many bats miss (three strikeouts) in his MLB debut Friday, but he did well to limit a potent Atlanta offense to two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings while taking a no-decision.
Apr 16, 2022
No-decision Friday
Gore didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while fanning three across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Gore ended just two outs away from posting a quality start in what was a strong MLB debut for one of the best prospects on the Padres' farm system. His tenure with the big-league club will probably be tied to Blake Snell's recovery from a groin injury, but it shouldn't be ruled out to see him stick with the team if he performs well. Friday's outing was certainly a step in the right direction for the 23-year-old southpaw.
Apr 14, 2022
Recalled by San Diego
Gore was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Gore will make his major-league debut Friday against Atlanta after Blake Snell (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Snell's injury isn't believed to be particularly serious, so it's possible that Gore will return to the minors following a brief stint with the Padres. However, the 23-year-old is one of San Diego's top prospects and will likely have a chance to remain with the big-league club if he performs well as a fill-in option.
Apr 14, 2022
Confirmed to start Friday
Padres manager Bob Melvin confirmed that Gore will be called up from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against Atlanta at Petco Park, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
San Diego will likely wait until later Thursday or on Friday to make the transaction official, with Blake Snell (groin) heading to the injured list in a corresponding move. The Padres don't believe Snell's injury is a major concern, so Gore could be in line for a short-term stint in the rotation regardless of how he performs in his MLB debut. The possibility exists that Gore could stick with San Diego as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen or occasional spot starter after Snell's return, which would allow the organization to keep the 23-year-old's workload in check while allowing the young lefty to get acclimated to the big-league level in anticipation of a full-time rotation role in 2023.
Apr 13, 2022
On track for MLB debut Friday
Gore is expected to be called up from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against Atlanta in San Diego, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Padres won't formally add Gore to the 28-man active roster until Thursday or Friday, but he already left El Paso on Tuesday and joined the team's taxi squad in San Diego. With Blake Snell not progressing from his adductor strain as quickly as hoped, he'll head to the injured list and miss his next start Friday, paving the way for Gore to temporarily slot into the rotation. The 23-year-old lefty endured a turbulent 2021 campaign that included stops at four different minor-league affiliates, but he showed major improvement this spring, as he allowed just five baserunners while striking out 11 over nine Cactus League innings. Gore will likely be on a strict pitch count Friday, but a strong showing against the reigning World Series champions could allow him to stick with the Padres on a longer-term basis even if Snell is forced to miss only one start.
Apr 12, 2022
Joins Padres via taxi squad
Gore is with the Padres as a member of the taxi squad for Tuesday's game against the Giants, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Blake Snell (groin) was scratched from his start Sunday and is attempting to avoid the injured list, though Gore is now with the team on the taxi squad and waiting in the wings to step into the starting rotation. Gore won't officially be added to the big-league roster until Snell's status is determined, but for now the young lefty lines up to potentially make his major-league debut Friday versus Atlanta.
Apr 10, 2022
Candidate for call-up
Gore is an option to fill in as a starter for the Padres since Blake Snell (groin) is likely heading to the 10-day injured list, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore failed to land a spot on the Padres' Opening Day roster in 2022, but he had a strong spring and allowed two hits and no walks while striking out seven in five scoreless innings during his season debut at Triple-A El Paso on Saturday. While manager Bob Melvin hasn't indicated that Gore will fill in as a starter, the southpaw would be available on full rest to make his major-league debut at home against Atlanta on Friday, which was when Snell lined up to make his next start.
Apr 6, 2022
Beginning season at Triple-A
Gore was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Gore had 16 strikeouts over 12 innings during spring training, but he was never a likely bet to make San Diego's Opening Day roster. He made six starts for El Paso last season and struggled with a 5.85 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across 20 innings. Gore remains one of the organization's top pitching prospects and could be promoted for his major-league debut at some point in 2022.
Mar 24, 2022
Off to strong spring start
Gore pitched three scoreless innings against the Angels in a Cactus League game Wednesday, allowing one hit while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
Gore was dominant in his second outing of the spring, giving up just a third-inning double to Orlando Martinez. The left-handed hurler has now pitched five scoreless Cactus League innings, giving up just one hit and no walks while whiffing seven. Gore's star faded a bit over the past two seasons, yet he has superb stuff and could still emerge as a top MLB pitcher. It remains to be seen whether the Padres would entertain the thought of allowing him to take an up-for-grabs rotation spot, but continued spring dominance could at least force the organization to give that scenario considerable thought.
Nov 19, 2021
Added to 40-man roster
Gore was added to the Padres' 40-man roster Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gore's star has fallen significantly over the last couple years, but he was never going to be left unprotected for the Rule 5 draft. At this point, it's possible he will end up in the bullpen, but the Padres will likely either trade him or continue to develop him as a starter in the short term.

Strikes out eight
Gore allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across four innings Friday for Double-A San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
This was Gore's second start since being promoted to San Antonio. He's now allowed only three earned runs across 10 innings at the level, though he has also walked eight batters. Though it's a positive that Gore is back on the mound at a reasonably appropriate level, he'll need to find the strike zone more regularly to succeed consistently and work deeper into games.

Moves up to Double-A
The Padres promoted Gore from High-A Fort Wayne to Double-A San Antonio on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Padres have been steadily advancing Gore through their farm system after he was moved to the team's alternate training site in Arizona in late June following his poor start to the season at Triple-A El Paso. The organization has seemingly been encouraged by the progress Gore has made with his mechanics since he began building up again in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in mid-August before he made the jump to High-A over the weekend, when he struck out five over a five-inning start. Gore is expected to remain with San Antonio before its season ends Sept. 19. Then, he's expected to report to Triple-A El Paso and remain there until its season ends Oct. 3.

Assigned to High-A
Gore was assigned to High-A Fort Wayne on Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore returned to game action with the rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate Aug. 19 and has made three appearances since then. During that time, he posted a 1.65 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 16.1 innings. The southpaw continues to progress following his lengthy absence due to a finger issue, but he's running out of time to join the major-league club in 2021.

Returns to game action
Gore allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out eight across 4.2 innings Thursday while pitching with the Peoria Padres of the Arizona Complex League.
ANALYSIS
Gore was in official game action for the first time since June 18. The outing was impressive, though that should be expected given the level of competition. Even so, it was a positive step forward for Gore, who was expected to be a regular part of the major-league rotation by this point in the season. Given his lack of work, reaching San Diego in 2021 may no longer be realistic for Gore. On the other hand, ending the season on a strong note could set him up to make an impact at the big-league level in 2022.

Working at alternative site
Gore has been at the Padres' spring-training facility in Arizona since mid-June while working on his delivery, Colin Deaver of KTSM.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore struggled mightily through six starts for Triple-A El Paso, and after he surrendered six runs in 1.1 innings June 18, the Padres moved him to the alternate site due to blisters on his pitching hand. He's remained there since, refining his delivery and his arm action. There's no timeline for Gore to return to Triple-A -- much less make his major-league debut -- but general manager AJ Preller did say "we're hoping he's an option here at some point in the second half of the season," which would seem to indicate that the team is still open to bringing him up this year if he can work through his issues. Although this season has taken a bit of the shine off Gore as a prospect, fantasy managers would do well to remember that he's still just 22 years old and has plenty of time to work on his game.

Roughed up in minor-league start
Gore pitched 1.1 innings against Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out one.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander got little help from his defense, but that doesn't erase the fact that he gave up three homers and retired only four batters. Gore was thought to have a chance to compete for the fifth-starter job in San Diego coming into the season, but he struggled in spring training and hasn't been particularly effective in his first campaign at the Triple-A level, posting a 5.85 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 18:12 K:BB across 20 innings. He's still only 22 years old and may just need more time to figure things out, but there is little doubt that Ryan Weathers, not Gore, would be summoned from the minors if San Diego needs to fill a vacancy in its rotation.

Returns to action for El Paso
Gore (finger) struck out one over two perfect frames for Triple-A El Paso in Saturday's 4-3 win over Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Gore was cleared to make his first appearance for El Paso since May 24 after battling a blister for the past two-plus weeks. Because of the layoff, Gore was limited to 19 pitches in the outing, but he should ramp up his workload in future starts once the finger injury is further in the rear-view mirror

Dealing with blister issue
Gore was scratched from his scheduled start for Triple-A El Paso on Sunday due to a blister issue, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore has made four minor-league starts to begin the year and has posted a 5.94 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 16.2 innings. The southpaw is expected to miss one turn through the rotation due to his blister, but the issue isn't expected to require a stint on the injured list.

Unlikely for Opening Day roster
The Padres don't plan to include Gore on their Opening Day roster, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Since Dinelson Lamet (elbow) is slated to begin the season on the injured list, Gore was given the chance to compete for the vacant fifth starter's role in spring training, but he never built much momentum in the job battle. He struggled to locate his pitches over his five Cactus League outings, working 11 innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and eight walks. Meanwhile, Adrian Morejon and Ryan Weathers clearly outperformed Gore in the competition for the rotation spot and will be first in line to fill in for Lamet. Gore could still be a candidate for a first-half promotion if he can show improved command at the Padres' alternate site and during the early portion of the minor-league season.

In contention for roster spot
Gore is a serious candidate for a spot on the Opening Day roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The hyped prospect had an up-and-down outing in Wednesday's Cactus League contest against Colorado, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk across two innings while striking out four. Though his command has been shaky, Gore has shown this spring that he has the stuff to get big-league hitters out, and San Diego may elect to have him start the campaign on the big-league roster. If he breaks camp with the club, Gore could be used as a multiple-inning reliever, though he could also pick up an occasional start or even function as the team's temporary No. 5 starter if Dinelson Lamet (elbow) isn't ready to go at the start of the campaign.

Ends spring debut strong
Gore recorded two strikeouts and walked three across 2.0 innings Thursday against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Gore labored in his opening frame, walking three of the first five batters he faced. As a result, he failed to record three outs when the inning was rolled over. However, he rebounded to retire the side in the second inning on just nine pitches. Reports indicated that Gore was sitting between 94 and 96 miles per hour with his fastball and also mixed in two curveballs for called strikes as well.

Impressing to begin camp
Pitching coach Larry Rothschild said Thursday that Gore is pitching well early in spring training, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gore reportedly had some delivery issues during summer camp ahead of the 2020 season, but Rothschild said that those concerns have been "worked out and plus" early this spring. The southpaw spent the entire 2020 campaign at the team's alternate training site and has made just five starts at the Double-A level. The Padres said last September that they want to use him as a starter once he reaches the majors. Although the team traded for Yu Darvish and Blake Snell during the offseason, Gore could contend for a spot in the big leagues at some point in 2021.

Not seen as bullpen option
The Padres would like Gore to break into the big leagues as a starting pitcher, which is partly why he has not debuted this season, according to general manager AJ Preller, 97.3 The Fan reports.
ANALYSIS
Preller noted how steady and productive the team's starting rotation has been this season, calling it a strength, so the fact the team wants Gore to break in as a starter coupled with the fact there wasn't a flurry of openings in the rotation, partially explains why Gore hasn't debuted. The GM also noted that Gore has only pitched in five games at Double-A. If Gore had been dominating all summer at the alternate site, it seems likely the team would have found a spot for him, but that doesn't necessarily mean Gore has not been at least adequate this year, given his age and experience.

Not included on Opening Day roster
Gore is not part of the Padres' 30-man roster.
ANALYSIS
In spite of Gore's exceptional talent, his exclusion from the active roster is not a surprise given that he has yet to pitch above the Double-A level. Still, the Padres may not want their prized southpaw to spend the entire season at their alternate training site, so it remains very possible that Gore joins the big-league club sooner rather than later.
