Gonzalez underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder in mid-July, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

This news was just revealed by the White Sox on Friday and it helps to explain why Gonzalez was transferred to the 60-day IL just before the All-Star break. The 26-year-old right-hander is aiming to be ready for the start of spring training in 2024.

The White Sox transferred Gonzalez (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

He's struck out multiple times in seven of his 13 starts, and he also has only three extra-base hits. It's too small of a sample to draw conclusions about Gonzalez's chances to make an impact at the big-league level this season, but the 25-year-old has not had an ideal start to the campaign.
