Fans seven in loss
Strider took the loss in Thursday's 3-1 defeat to the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLDS, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Strider was not as sharp as his start in Game 1 of the series and he once again found himself on the wrong side of the decision. The bulk of the damage came on two home runs from Nick Castellanos in the fourth and sixth innings, both of which came on pitches Strider left inside to the pull-happy outfielder. Although Strider struggled with allowing constant traffic on the basepaths, he also racked up 19 whiffs, underscoring the rollercoaster command that plagued him in this start. His postseason concluded with a 2.84 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 12.2 innings with 15 strikeouts.

Confirmed for Game 4 start
Strider will start Thursday in Game 4 of the NLDS in Philadelphia, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This was merely a formality, as Strider started Game 1 and will be on regular rest Thursday. He took the loss in the series opener in spite of a terrific effort which saw him allow two runs (one earned) while striking out eight over seven innings. The Phillies have not yet confirmed their Game 4 starter, but it's expected to be Ranger Suarez.

Confirmed for Game 1
Strider will start Saturday against the Phillies in Game 1 of the NLDS.
ANALYSIS
Strider struggled toward the end of the regular season, posting a 5.60 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 27.1 innings in September. However, he was dominant in the two starts he made against the Phillies that month, giving up four runs over 14 innings while striking out 20 batters and walking just two.

Notches 20th win
Strider (20-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over five innings against the Nationals. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Strider closed out the 2023 regular season on a high note Saturday, posting a quality start and fanning seven batters en route to his 20th win of the campaign. While the 24-year-old allowed three or more runs in five of his last six starts, Strider managed to finish 2023 with a 3.86 ERA and a 281:58 K:BB across 186.2 innings while leading the league in wins and strikeouts.

Collects 19th win
Strider (19-5) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings to earn the win in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Strider picked up his fourth win when allowing four or more runs this year. Despite not having his best, he's now won three stars in a row, allowing eight runs over 19.2 innings with a 24:3 K:BB in that span. The Atlanta ace has a 3.81 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 274:55 K:BB through 181.2 innings over 31 starts this season. He should get a chance to be the only 20-win starter this year with one more projected start in the regular season, tentatively lined up to be at home against the Nationals.

Punches out 11 in win
Strider (18-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits over seven innings against the Phillies. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Strider was dominant Tuesday, keeping the Phillies off the board for five innings before Bryce Harper launched a three-run homer. Still, the 24-year-old Strider would hang on for his 18th win, the most in the majors, while racking up double-digit strikeouts for the 11th time this season. Strider increased his league-leading strikeout total to 270 to go along with a 3.73 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He's currently slated for a road matchup with the Nationals in his next outing.

Start pushed by illness
Strider is dealing with an illness but is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Phillies, David O'Brien of The Athleticreports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander originally lined up to start in Monday's doubleheader, but the ailment will push him back a couple days in Atlanta's rotation. It doesn't appear to be serious concern since Strider is still on the pitching schedule, though it's worth keeping an eye on his status heading into Wednesday's contest.

Rocked by Red Birds
Strider (16-5) took the loss against St. Louis on Wednesday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 2.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Strider struggled from the start of the contest, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk in the first frame. He got through the second unscathed despite allowing another hit, then issued two free passes around two hits in the third before departing with two outs in the inning. It was a frustrating start against a middle-of-the-pack team in terms of scoring, both for the hurler and for fantasy managers who roster him in head-to-head leagues currently in the playoffs. Strider has been one of the best pitchers in the game this season, but this was a good reminder that he isn't immune to blow-ups, as he's now allowed at least five runs in an outing five different times through 28 starts.
Aug 26, 2023
Racks up nine strikeouts in win
Strider (15-4) allowed a run on three hits and a walk while striking out nine over seven innings to earn the win Friday over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Strider's scoreless streak came to an end when he gave up a run in the seventh inning. He hadn't allowed a run over 14 innings across his previous two starts. The 24-year-old right-hander is now at a 3.46 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 236:47 K:BB through 153.1 innings across 26 starts this season. Strider will look to keep his excellent August going next week in Colorado.
Aug 19, 2023
Fans 10 in 14th win
Strider (14-4) picked up the win in Friday's 4-0 victory over the Giants, scattering one hit and one walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander retired the first nine batters he faced before putting LaMonte Wade on with a walk to lead off the fourth inning, and that was the only frame in which Strider even let a runner get into scoring position. He generated 32 called or swinging strikes among his 97 pitches as he fanned double-digit batters for the first time in August and the 10th time this season. Strider will take a 3.57 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 227:46 K:BB through 146.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come at home next week against the Mets.
Aug 12, 2023
Blanks Mets for 13th win
Strider (13-4) picked up the win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Mets, allowing three hits and four walks over seven scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
New York scored only three runs total on the day and none off either of Atlanta's starting pitchers, failing to cash in the opportunities Strider gave them in the nightcap. The right-hander has issued multiple free passes in three straight starts, but he's also delivered quality starts in three of his last four outings. Strider's 4.67 ERA in 34.2 innings since the All-Star break isn't reflected in his 51:13 K:BB or 1.21 WHIP, and he'll look to bring those ratios down further in his next start, likely to come at home next weekend against the Giants.
Aug 7, 2023
Rocked by Pirates
Strider (12-4) allowed six runs on five hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Monday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
After two scoreless frames, the Pirates plated six runs in a disastrous third inning. It was Strider's shortest outing of the year and the first time he struck out fewer than six batters. The 24-year-old has given up at least four runs in three of his last five outings, registering a 5.86 ERA during that stretch. Strider owns a terrific 211:41 K:BB through 132.1 innings but his season ERA shot up to 3.94. His next start is lined up to be on the road against the Mets.
Aug 2, 2023
Makes history again
Strider (12-3) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 6.2 innings in a 5-1 victory over the Angels. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander came just short of his fifth straight start with double-digit strikeouts, but by fanning Shohei Ohtani in the first inning, Strider became the fastest pitcher in MLB history to 200 Ks in a season by doing it in just 123.1 innings. He broke the record held by... himself, as he needed 130 innings to whiff his first 200 batters as a rookie in 2022. Since battling through a couple rough outings in early June, Strider has posted a 2.82 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and stunning 81:8 K:BB through 51 innings over his last eight starts. He's next set to take the mound early next week in Pittsburgh.
Jul 27, 2023
Tallies double-digits K's again
Strider allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters over 6.1 innings in a no-decision against Boston on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Strider cruised through five scoreless frames before Rafael Devers tagged him for a solo homer in the sixth. Strider got through the rest of that inning and continued into the seventh, when he surrendered another solo shot to Triston Casas before getting the hook after allowing a single to the following batter. The Red Sox turned out two more runs in the frame following the hurler's departure, saddling him with a no-decision. Despite the late struggles, Strider posted another big outing from a fantasy perspective, tallying double-digit punchouts for his fourth straight start. The right-hander has just one win and a so-so 4.01 ERA during that span, but he's posted a remarkable 44:3 K:BB across 24.2 frames during the stretch to boost his MLB-best strikeout total to 199 -- 37 more than his closest competition (Kevin Gausman).
Jul 21, 2023
Strikes out 13 in no-decision
Strider did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over 6 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out 13.
ANALYSIS
Strider was his usual, dominant self through the first six innings, striking out 12 of the first 17 batters he faced before allowing four runs in the top of the seventh. It was the right-hander's second start in a row in which he allowed at least four runs, though he also matched his season high with 13 strikeouts on the afternoon. Strider has now recorded double-digit strikeouts in three consecutive starts, with Thursday's performance already putting him over 200 strikeouts for the season.
Jul 16, 2023
Fans 10 but gives up five runs
Strider (11-3) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out 10 batters.
ANALYSIS
Strider displayed plenty of his usual dominance, racking up 26 whiffs and 10 strikeouts. However, the right-hander was knocked around a bit when he wasn't missing bats, as four of the eight hits against him went for extra bases, including a go-ahead homer by Jake Burger in Strider's final frame. The All-Star hurler has notched double-digit strikeouts in seven different starts this season, and he leads MLB with 176 punchouts overall. He's also tied for the league lead with 11 wins, though his 3.66 ERA is nearly a run worse than the 2.67 mark he posted as a rookie last year.
Jul 9, 2023
Subdues Rays for 11th victory
Strider improved to 11-2 with a win against Tampa Bay on Saturday. He pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out 11 batters.
ANALYSIS
Strider wrapped up an All-Star first half in dominant fashion, racking up 25 swinging strikes and 11 punchouts over 6.1 scoreless frames. He grabbed his seventh win over his past eight starts, a span during which he's posted a 4.02 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 69:13 K:BB over 47 innings. Strider leads MLB with 166 punchouts on the campaign, and he's tied with Zac Gallen and Shane McClanahan (back) for first with 11 victories. The right-hander has notched double-digit strikeouts in six of his 18 starts.
Jul 2, 2023
Snares 10th victory
Strider (10-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Marlins. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
Strider picked up his fourth consecutive win Sunday, fanning nine batters across 6.2 frames. The 24-year-old has been the MLB's premier strikeout pitcher, leading the league with 155 punchouts and a 14.2 K/9 while racking up eight or more K's in 14 of his 17 starts. After enduring a rough patch in early June where he gave up 13 runs over two appearances (nine innings), Strider has bounced back with four earned runs across his last three starts (19.2 innings) to bring his ERA to 3.66 on the year. He's expected to toe the mound once more before the All-Star break in a projected matchup with the Rays at Tropicana Field next weekend.
Jun 27, 2023
Strikes out 10 in win
Strider (9-2) earned the win Monday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over seven innings against the Twins. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Strider struck out at least 10 batters for the fifth time this season and earned his fifth win over his last six starts. During that stretch, he's posted a 49:11 K:BB and 13.0 K/9. Overall, Strider holds a 3.73 ERA and 1.11 WHIP, but those numbers are skewed by a poor performance against the Mets on June 8. If you take that game out of the equation, Strider has a 3.08 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 138:30 K:BB across 15 appearances (87.2 innings). He's currently lined up for a home matchup versus the Marlins in his next start.
Jun 20, 2023
Rebounds for eighth win
Strider (8-2) earned the win Tuesday, allowing a run on eight hits over six innings against the Phillies. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
It was an encouraging effort from Strider after he'd allowed 13 runs over his last two outings (nine innings). It's the 10th time in 15 starts that he's logged nine or more strikeouts. The 24-year-old Strider leads the league with 136 punchouts while recording a 3.93 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 84.2 innings. He's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Reds in his next start.
Jun 14, 2023
Escapes with seventh win
Strider (7-2) picked up the win in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, surrendering five runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over five innings in a 10-7 victory. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander had his start Tuesday bumped back a day due to inclement weather, and the disruption in his routine appeared to have an impact. Strider served up more than two homers in a game for the first time in his career and was facing a 4-0 deficit after two innings, but he gutted out three more frames and stuck around long enough for Atlanta's offense to come roaring back. Strider still flashed some of his usual dominance, producing 17 swinging strikes on 94 pitches, but after two rough starts in a row he sports a surprising 4.12 ERA on the season despite a league-leading 127 strikeouts in 78.2 innings.
Jun 13, 2023
Start postponed due to weather
Strider's start versus the Tigers on Tuesday was postponed due to inclement weather, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The game will be made up on Wednesday with a straight doubleheader in Detroit. Strider should be on the hill for one of those two games, with Reese Olson -- his scheduled opponent on Tuesday -- also likely to go Wednesday.
Jun 9, 2023
Knocked around by Mets
Strider allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out eight batters over four innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Strider had his usual swing-and-miss stuff working, as he racked up 17 whiffs and eight punchouts over just four frames. However, he was hit hard by the Mets, who tagged him for a pair of homers. Both the eight hits and eight runs Strider allowed were season-worst marks, and this was just the second time over 13 starts that he's served up multiple long balls. Strider's season ERA jumped to 3.79 as a result of the poor outing, but he has a good chance of bouncing back in what is lined up to be a juicy matchup against Detroit his next time out.
Jun 4, 2023
Good enough to win Saturday
Strider (6-2) allowed two runs on three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in six innings, earning the win Saturday over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
The four walks were a season high, but he was able to work around the free passes despite less-than-dominant stuff. Strider still managed to throw 63 of 99 pitches for strikes, including 15 whiffs. Walk rate is about the only thing he could improve on this year -- he's posted a 3.4 BB/9 so far. Strider is at a 2.97 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 113 strikeouts through 69.2 innings. He's lined up for a favorable home start against the Nationals next week.
May 28, 2023
Punches out nine
Strider (5-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk over six innings Sunday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Strider was dominant as usual Sunday, with the only misstep coming in the third inning when he served up a two-run shot to Brandon Marsh. After allowing two homers through his first eight starts, Strider has now been taken deep four times in his last three outings. Still, he's maintained a 2.97 ERA with a stellar 106:22 K:BB through 63.2 frames. The second-year star registered a 3.57 ERA over four starts since his last win May 1. Strider's next outing is expected to come at home against the Diamondbacks.
May 24, 2023
Fans 11 in loss
Strider (4-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 6 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Strider got off to a sluggish start to the contest, giving up a leadoff double to Mookie Betts, who would come around to score on a Will Smith single, then being tagged by Jason Heyward for a solo homer to start the second. He recovered nicely following the second frame, retiring 12 of the 14 batters he would face before being pulled. Tuesday's game marked Strider's second consecutive start allowing four runs, however, both outings have come against high-octane offenses in the Rangers and the Dodgers. Though Strider is expected to take on a tough Philadelphia lineup in his next start, he remains an elite fantasy option, especially in points leagues and daily formats where strikeouts reign supreme.
May 17, 2023
Slips up versus Texas
Strider allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The seven strikeouts were a season low, and this was also the first start in which Strider's allowed multiple home runs this season. Atlanta was able to rally over the eighth and ninth innings to get him off the hook for the loss. The 24-year-old is now at a 2.96 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 86:18 K:BB across 51.2 innings. He's been limited to five frames in three of his last four outings. Strider is projected for a tough home start next week against the Dodgers.
May 12, 2023
Fans 12 in tough loss
Strider (4-1) took the loss Friday as Atlanta fell 3-0 to the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out 12.
ANALYSIS
It's the third time in his last four starts Strider punched out double-digit batters, but the right-hander was out-dueled by Chris Bassitt, who tossed a shutout for Toronto. Strider generated a stunning 49 called or swinging strikes among his 110 pitches, and he'll take a 2.70 ERA and 79:15 K:BB through 46.2 innings into his next outing, likely to come on the road next week against the Rangers.
May 7, 2023
Racks up 10 punchouts Saturday
Strider allowed two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out 10 batters over five innings against Baltimore on Saturday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Strider was outstanding against Baltimore, inducing 21 swinging strikes and notching double-digit punchouts for the second time this season. However, he threw a hefty 95 pitches over five frames, causing him to miss out on a chance at a quality start. The right-hander was in position for a victory when he departed, but a pair of sixth-inning Orioles runs stuck him with a no-decision and ended his personal three-game winning streak. Strider has thus far avoided any sort of sophomore slump after a fabulous rookie campaign last season. He leads MLB with 67 strikeouts and has posted a 2.70 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 40 innings.
May 2, 2023
Yields four runs but nabs victory
Strider improved to 4-0 with a win over the Mets in the first game of a doubleheader Monday. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight batters.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta staked Strider to a 6-1 lead after two innings, but he served up a three-run homer to Pete Alonso in the following frame that brought the score much closer. To his credit, Strider bounced back by retiring the final nine batters he faced, allowing him to hang around just long enough to pick up his fourth win. The right-hander walked three but tossed 74 of his 107 pitches for a strike, and he did his usual standout work missing bats by notching 15 swings-and-misses. The four earned runs Strider allowed were a season high while the eight strikeouts were a season low, which speaks to how well he has pitched as a whole through six starts.
Apr 30, 2023
Braves-Mets postponed Sunday
Strider and Atlanta won't face the Mets on Sunday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Queens.
ANALYSIS
The two teams have now had two consecutive games postponed for weather-related reasons. Atlanta and New York will make up the postponement from Saturday as part of a split doubleheader Aug. 12, while Sunday's postponed contest will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader Monday. Expect Strider to take the hill for one of those two contests.
Apr 29, 2023
ATL @ NYM postponed by rain
Strider will not start Saturday against the Mets after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Queens, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
This game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Aug. 12. The two teams will try to fit in Sunday's tilt, with Strider presumably getting the start for Atlanta, but the forecast for the New York area isn't much better. Strider stands 3-0 with a brilliant 1.80 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB through 30 innings (five starts) this season.
Apr 25, 2023
Dominates Miami for third win
Strider (3-0) earned the win Monday, tossing eight scoreless innings in which he allowed two hits and zero walks during a 11-0 win over Miami. He struck out 13.
ANALYSIS
Strider was perfect through six innings until Jazz Chisholm reached on a fielding error by Matt Olson to leadoff the seventh. The right-hander got out of the frame by retiring the next three batters, but he lost his no-hitter in the eighth when Jean Segura and Jon Berti hit back-to-back, one-out singles. Strider escaped the frame by striking out Jacob Stallings and Garrett Hampson, giving him a season-high 13 strikeouts. It was Strider's third scoreless outing of the year, and he currently holds a 1.80 ERA and a 0.83 with a stellar 49:11 K:BB through five starts (30.0 innings).
Apr 19, 2023
Pitches six shutout innings in win
Strider (2-0) earned the win Tuesday, allowing zero runs on one hit and three walks over six innings against the Padres. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
Fantasy managers couldn't have asked for a better start to Strider's sophomore season. This is the 24-year-old righty's second shutout of the year, and he's now leading the league in strikeouts through the end of Tuesday's games. The former Clemson Tiger is also holding opposing hitters to a .158 batting average, good for eighth-best in the MLB. The Ohio native will look to continue his stellar start to the season against the Marlins next week.
Apr 13, 2023
Totals nine punchouts again
Strider did not factor in the decision against Cincinnati on Wednesday, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine batters.
ANALYSIS
Strider's final line Wednesday was almost a carbon copy of his previous start against San Diego, when he also allowed three runs on four hits while striking out nine batters over five frames. The right-hander has struck out exactly nine hitters in each of his three outings this season, though he has just one win to show for it. Strider had his swing-and-miss stuff working against the Reds, as he racked up 22 whiffs, but he could go only five frames due to tossing 98 pitches. The 24-year-old has lived up to his billing as one of the game's top strikeout pitchers so far in 2023, as he is currently tied with Jacob deGrom for the league lead in punchouts.
Apr 7, 2023
Strikes out nine in no-decision
Strider didn't factor in the decision against San Diego on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks while striking out nine batters over five innings.
ANALYSIS
As usual, opposing hitters found it difficult to make contact against Strider, as the hurler racked up 18 swinging strikes and punched out nine batters. However, the lack of contact -- along with three walks -- resulted in a high pitch count for the right-hander, as he needed 101 pitches to get through five frames. That could have been enough for Strider to earn a win, but Atlanta's bullpen was unable to hold the 4-3 lead he carried at the time of his departure. Through two starts, Strider is tied for second in MLB with 18 strikeouts, and he's posted a 2.45 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 11 innings.
Apr 1, 2023
Fans nine in first win
Strider (1-0) picked up the win in Saturday's 7-1 victory over the Nationals, allowing three hits and three walks over six scoreless innings while striking out nine.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-ikd right-hander picked up right where he left off in 2022, generating 16 swinging strikes among his 96 pitches (68 strikes) as he sliced through an overmatched Washington lineup. Strider racked up 202 strikeouts in only 131.2 innings last year, and a full season in the rotation could allow him to post some unthinkable strikeout numbers in 2023. His next start will likely come at home against the Padres.
Mar 27, 2023
Looks ready for season
Strider allowed two hits and a walk over four scoreless innings while striking out four in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Facing a lineup made up mainly of players competing for bench roles, Strider had no trouble sailing through his final spring tuneup. The right-hander posted a 21:4 K:BB through 16 Grapefruit League innings and appears more than ready to follow up his breakout 2022 campaign. Strider is expected to start the second game of the season, April 1 against the Nationals, which would also put him on track for Atlanta's home opener April 6 against the Padres.
Mar 20, 2023
Throws five innings in MiLB game
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker told reporters that Spencer Strider threw five-plus innings in Monday's minor-league game, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
There's no word on Strider's stats for that contest, but the important thing in exhibition season is that the right-hander is getting his work in. After a strong rookie campaign that saw him strike out 38.3 percent of the hitters he faced over 131.2 innings of work, Strider is being drafted as one of the top starting options in baseball, and his swing-and-miss arsenal make that an easy decision to justify.
Mar 10, 2023
Fans five Blue Jays
Strider gave up a run on three hits over 3.1 innings while striking out five during Thursday's split-squad game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander fired 42 of 57 pitches for strikes in his third appearance of the spring. Strider has a 9:2 K:BB through 8.1 innings in Grapefruit League action, and after a dazzling rookie campaign that saw him fan 202 batters in only 131.2 frames for a 38.3 percent strikeout rate, Atlanta is counting on the 24-year-old to emerge as a true ace in 2023.
Mar 5, 2023
Fans three in first spring start
Strider gave up three hits and a walk over three scoreless innings while striking out three in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander has yet to allow a run through his first five spring innings, posting a 4:2 K:BB. Strider is coming off a dazzling rookie season that saw him top 200 strikeouts despite only pitching 131.2 innings for Atlanta, and the 24-year-old right-hander could emerge as a true ace in 2023 if his changeup joins his high-90s fastball and nasty slider as a plus offering.
Feb 22, 2023
Sharp to begin spring training
Strider retired all three batters he faced Wednesday while throwing his first simulated game of spring training, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
After an outstanding rookie season, Strider appears to be picking up right where he left off to kick off spring training, with Toscano noted that the right-hander's 15-pitch outing included strikeouts of Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies. Heading into his age-24 season, Strider will likely face a soft innings cap compared to some of the game's top-tier starters, but he proved as a rookie that he doesn't need big volume to turn in brilliant fantasy production. He was one of only 11 pitchers to finish with 200-plus strikeouts in 2022, despite covering 30 fewer innings than any of those other 10 hurlers.
Oct 14, 2022
Starting Game 3
Strider (oblique) will start Game 3 of the NLDS on Friday against the Phillies, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Strider will return to the mound for the first time since Sept. 18 following an oblique injury. It's unlikely that he'll be able to pitch a full workload in the contest, but the right-hander is a welcomed addition for Atlanta after having posted a 2.67 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 12.8 K/9 this season. As a result of Strider starting Game 3, Charlie Morton will now toe the rubber in Saturday's Game 4 matchup.

Makes NLDS roster
Strider (oblique) will be on Atlanta's NLDS roster.
ANALYSIS
Strider had an outstanding rookie season, posting a 2.67 ERA and 38.3 percent strikeout rate in 131.2 innings, but it was cut short in mid-September due to an oblique strain. While he will in fact be able to make it back for the postseason, it's unclear what sort of role he'll be able to play, as his experience as a reliever could lead Atlanta to deploy him that way if he isn't built up enough to start. Per Jeff Schultz of The Athletic, a Game 3 start for Strider is possible, though that could also go to Charlie Morton.

Checks out fine after side session
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Strider (oblique) looked good during a bullpen session Sunday, but the team is still in the process of determining the rookie right-hander's role for its National League Division Series with he Phillies, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
At the very least, Strider won't be available to start Games 1 and 2, as Atlanta plans on having Max Fried and Kyle Wright take the hill Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Charlie Morton will likely have the inside track in another spot in Atlanta's four-man rotation, but Strider could be in consideration to start Game 3 on Friday or Game 4 on Saturday if the team is comfortable with him from a health and workload standpoint. Even if Strider isn't quite built up enough to start after closing the regular season on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain, he should have a role out of the bullpen as a multi-inning reliever. After a brilliant first full season in the big leagues in which he went 11-5 with a 2.67 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and a whopping 202 strikeouts over 131.2 innings, the 23-year-old was rewarded Monday with a six-year, $75 million contract extension.

Inks long-term deal with Atlanta
Atlanta announced Monday that Strider (oblique) signed a six-year, $75 million contract extension that runs through the 2028 season. The contract includes a $22 million team option or a $5 million buyout for 2029.
ANALYSIS
Strider becomes the latest in a growing list of young, foundational pieces to come to terms with Atlanta on a long-term deal to buy out his arbitration years. Before a left oblique strain caused the 23-year-old to finish the regular season on the 15-day injured list, the rookie right-hander had arguably been Atlanta's top pitcher in 2022. After dazzling in relief to begin the season, Strider transitioned into the rotation in late May and finished with a 2.67 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 202:45 K:BB across 131.2 innings. Atlanta hopes to have Strider available for its upcoming National League Divisional Series with the Phillies that begins Tuesday, but he has yet to be formally activated.

Could return for NLDS
Atlanta is optimistic about Strider's chances of being ready for the NLDS against Philadelphia, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Strider has been on the 15-day injured list since suffering a left oblique strain in late-September, but he's been ramping up his throwing of late. Per O'Brien, the team will watch him throw more over the next 48 hours before making a final decision on his NLDS roster status.
Oct 5, 2022
Plays catch Tuesday
Strider (oblique) had no issues while throwing on flat ground Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old had been shut down from throwing due to the oblique strain since his last start Sept. 18, but he's now been cleared to start up a throwing program. Strider remains without an official return timeline, though he seems unlikely to make enough progress within the next week to be available for the start of the NLDS.
Sep 30, 2022
Not throwing
Strider (oblique) has not been cleared to resume throwing, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Strider won't be returning during the regular season, but Atlanta hopes to make another deep playoff run, so Strider's status remains relevant. He has not pitched since Sept. 18 due to an oblique strain.
Sep 24, 2022
Placed on IL
Strider was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain Saturday, retroactive to Sept. 21.
ANALYSIS
Strider dealt with an oblique issue following his most recent start, and he'll ultimately be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. The right-hander will be eligible to return for the start of the postseason, but the severity of his strain isn't yet clear. Bryce Elder is a strong candidate to remain in Atlanta's rotation, while Alan Rangel was recalled Saturday.
Sep 20, 2022
Oblique ailing, next start TBD
Strider is dealing with a sore oblique and will be pushed back a few days, so he may not make a start this week, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He lined up to start Friday in Philadelphia, so if he is indeed pushed back "a few" days, he could pitch early next week in Washington. Bryce Elder, who is entering the rotation Wednesday, could stick around in the rotation if Strider needs to miss more than one turn through the rotation.

Punches out 10 in win
Strider (11-5) allowed one run on a hit and three walks over six innings Sunday, striking out 10 and earning a win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Strider fired five shutout frames before Alec Bohm tagged him with a solo shot in the sixth inning. The electrifying rookie recorded double-digit strikeouts for the sixth time this season and now owns a terrific 202:45 K:BB through just 131.2 frames. Strider has given up two or fewer earned runs in 13 of his last 15 starts, posting a 2.25 ERA across 84 frames during that stretch. He's lined up to start in Philadelphia next week.
Sep 13, 2022
Fans nine but takes loss
Strider (10-5) took the loss against San Francisco on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out nine batters over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Strider didn't have his best stuff in the outing, as he needed 102 pitches to make it through five shaky frames. The Giants racked up nine hits against him, but only one (a Thairo Estrada double) went for extra bases. That allowed Strider to keep the damage on the scoreboard to a minimum by going to his swing-and-miss stuff -- he finished four of his five frames with a strikeout, three of the swinging variety. Strider has struck out at least nine batters in four of his past five starts and ranks sixth in MLB with 192 punchouts on the campaign.
Sep 2, 2022
Sets team record with 16 strikeouts
Strider (9-4) earned the win over Colorado on Thursday, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out 16 batters over eight innings.
ANALYSIS
Strider overpowered the Rockies in his most impressive performance as a big-leaguer, racking up 16 punchouts and 22 swinging strikes. The strikeout total established the Atlanta-era franchise record, surpassing the 15 K's recorded by John Smoltz in both 1992 and 2005. Strider has posted five double-digit strikeout performances across 17 starts this season and ranks ninth in the league with 176 punchouts despite hurling only 114.2 innings. As icing on the cake, he appears to be getting stronger as the season winds down -- over his past four starts, the rookie right-hander has gone 3-0 while registering a 1.08 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 36:4 K:BB over 25 frames.
Aug 27, 2022
Sharp again Friday
Strider (8-4) earned the win Friday over the Cardinals, allowing one run on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman with seven strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Strider threw 72 of 102 pitches for strikes in a sharp start. This was the fifth time in his last six outings he's limited opponents to one run. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 2.87 with a 1.03 WHIP and 158:38 K:BB across 106.2 innings through 27 appearances (16 starts) this season. He'll look to keep this good stretch going in his next start, tentatively projected for next week at home versus Colorado.
Aug 21, 2022
Strikes out nine in quality start
Strider allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings in a no-decision versus the Astros on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Since the start of July, Strider has allowed one run or fewer in seven of his nine outings. He's allowed 15 runs across 47 innings in that stretch as he continues to impress in his rookie year. His lone mistake Saturday was a solo home run to Jeremy Pena in the fifth inning. Strider owns a 2.95 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 151:37 K:BB through 100.2 innings across 26 appearances (15 starts). He's lined up for a road start in St. Louis next week.
Aug 16, 2022
Collects seventh win
Strider (7-4) picked up the win in Monday's 13-1 rout of the Mets, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The rookie failed to get out of the third inning in his last start, also against the Mets, but Strider was sharper this time around and benefitted from an offensive eruption by Atlanta. He's showing some signs of fatigue in his first full season in the majors, lasting longer than five innings only twice in his last six starts, but Strider still sports a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB through 29 innings over that stretch. Given his dominance, expect Atlanta to continue finding ways to give him some extra rest down the stretch with an eye toward having him available for the playoffs, but a full shutdown seems unlikely -- the 23-year-old tossed 96.1 innings across all levels last season and only sits at 94.2 innings so far in 2022, so there should still be plenty of gas left in his tank.
Aug 7, 2022
Not great versus Mets
Strider (6-4) allowed four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Mets.
ANALYSIS
It was announced Strider won't face an innings limit this season, his first as a big-league starter. What could see him lose his spot in the rotation is poor performance, as he's had a couple of poor outings in going 2-2 across his last four starts. In that span, he's allowed 11 runs across 19.1 frames, though he's also posted a 28:6 K:BB. After Sunday's dud, he owns a 3.11 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 138:34 K:BB through 89.2 innings in 24 appearances (13 starts). The 23-year-old right-hander will look to bounce back next weekend in a projected road start in Miami.
Aug 4, 2022
No innings limit
Strider does not have an innings cap this season, and Atlanta has no immediate plans to shift him back to the bullpen despite the addition of Jake Odorizzi at the trade deadline, Maria Torres and David O'Brien of The Athletic report.
ANALYSIS
Strider has been spectacular as a rookie this season, posting a 3.02 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 96:21 K:BB through only 62.2 innings since moving into the rotation in late May. The 23-year-old righty tossed 96.1 innings across all levels in 2021 and is quickly approaching that figure this season, causing concerns about his workload, but as yet he isn't showing any signs of fatigue and Atlanta has no intention of removing him from the rotation until it seems necessary. Odorizzi does give the club some insurance in case Strider or another young pitcher falter down the stretch, but for now the veteran hurler will work as a sixth starter and swing man.

Fans 13 in laugher
Strider (6-3) earned the victory Tuesday over Philadelphia, striking out 13 in 6.2 innings while allowing a run on three hits and a walk.
ANALYSIS
Outside of consecutive hits in the second inning that led to Philadelphia's only run, Strider absolutely dominated. At one point he retired 13 batters in a row, nine by strikeout. It was the fourth time he's reached double-digit strikeouts in a game and the first time he's punched out as many as 13. With 133 strikeouts in 87 innings and only five homers allowed he's putting together one of the best rookie seasons in baseball this year.

Cruises to fifth win
Strider (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The rookie shut the Philadelphia offense down completely until serving up a solo shot to Kyle Schwarber in the sixth inning, but Atlanta already held a 5-0 lead at that point. Strider delivered his fourth quality start in his last six outings on a tidy 90 pitches (61 strikes), and he boasts a dazzling 2.20 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 48:9 K:BB through 32.2 innings over that stretch.
Jul 17, 2022
Coughs up five runs
Strider (4-3) allowed five runs on four hits and two walks over four innings Sunday, striking out four and taking a loss against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Most of the damage against Strider came during an ugly four-run second inning; he yielded a two-run single to Ehire Adrianza and a two-run homer to Victor Robles in the frame. It was Strider's second straight start of fewer than five innings after tossing six innings in each of his previous three outings. The 23-year-old is now sporting a 3.03 ERA with a 114:30 K:BB through 21 appearances (10 starts).
Jul 12, 2022
Pulled after 4.2 innings
Strider allowed a run on five hits, three walks and a hit batsman while striking out eight in 4.2 innings in a 4-1 win Tuesday over the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Strider held the Mets scoreless through the first four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. With two outs, he gave up a run-scoring triple to Francisco Lindor and issued an intentional walk to Pete Alonso before being removed, having thrown 103 pitches. Over his last four starts including Tuesday, the 23-year-old has fanned 38 batters in 23.1 innings and allowed just two runs on 13 hits.
Jul 7, 2022
Fans 12 in no-decision
Strider struck out 12 in six scoreless innings while allowing two runs on two hits Thursday in a 3-2 loss against St. Louis. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Strider struck out eight batters in the first three innings and allowed just one baserunner over the next three frames. The 23-year-old has found his stride of late, allowing one run on eight hits while compiling a 30:3 K:BB in 18 innings over three starts. His next start will likely be early next week against the Mets.
Jul 3, 2022
Dominates Reds for fourth win
Strider (4-2) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk over six innings against the Reds. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Strider's rookie breakout continued with his second double-digit strikeout game of the season and arguably his best overall performance to date in the big leagues. He induced a whopping 24 swinging strikes on 93 pitches, and Cincinnati was only able to scratch a run across after a hit-by-pitch, a wild pitch and a single. Strider had a recent bump in the road against San Francisco (six earned in 3.2 innings), but he's flashing frontline starter potential.
Jun 27, 2022
Bounces back Sunday
Strider pitched six shutout innings Sunday versus the Dodgers, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking none in a no-decision.
ANALYSIS
Strider was tagged for six runs by the Giants in his last start, but he bounced back with an excellent performance against one of the National League's top teams. The rookie right-hander submitted his longest start of the year, throwing 64 of 95 pitches for strikes while keeping runs off the board for the second time in six starts since he joined the rotation. He owns a 3.02 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 79:22 K:BB through 53.2 innings overall. Strider is expected to make his next start on the road in Cincinnati next weekend.
Jun 22, 2022
Gives up six runs
Strider gave up six earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over 3.2 innings in a 12-10 loss to the Giants in Tuesday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Strider struggled against a veteran Giants team that chased him after only 3.2 innings. He had previously been effective for the Braves since being moved to the rotation last month, and he came in to face the Giants fresh off of an 11-strikeout performance against the Nationals on June 16th. Strider has electric stuff, including a fastball which averages 98 mph, but it remains to be seen if his mainly two-pitch repertoire (fastball-slider) will play as a starter over the long term. He will look to bounce back in his next start which tentatively lines up for Sunday at home against the Dodgers.
Jun 16, 2022
Career-best start
Strider (3-2) gave up two earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out a career-high 11 batters Wednesday against the Nationals. He picked up the win.
ANALYSIS
This was Strider's best start of his career, as he tied his career high with 5.2 innings and blew past his previous career high of eight strikeouts. He topped out at 100.9 mph and average 98.8 mph with his fastball, which had a 33 percent whiff rate in this outing. His slider registered a 48 percent whiff rate and he threw his third-pitch changeup just four times out of 106 total pitches. Strider has a 1.76 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB in 15.1 innings over his last three starts. He may get a pair of starts next week against the Giants and Dodgers, both of which would come at home.
Jun 10, 2022
Fans eight in victory
Strider (2-2) allowed four hits and a walk over 5.2 scoreless innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Strider gave up just four singles while turning in his first shutout appearance as a starter. His eight punchouts tied a season high from his May 6 outing against the Brewers. The 23-year-old touched triple-digits with his fastball while forcing 18 whiffs. Strider now owns a 2.35 ERA with a 57:19 K:BB through 38.1 frames. He's lined up to start in Washington next week.
Jun 5, 2022
Submits four solid innings
Strider didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 6-2 victory over Colorado, allowing one run on two hits and five walks with five strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
Making his second start, Strider rebounded from a poor performance permit just one run despite loading the bases in both the third and fourth innings. It's been a mixed transition to the rotation or the 23-year-old who's allowed five runs then five walks in each of his two starts after opening the year as a surprisingly shutdown reliever. The positive has been Strider's pitch count of 72 and 87 pitches in his last two games after averaging 37 pitches per appearance in his first 11 games.
Jun 2, 2022
Getting second start Saturday
Strider is listed as Atlanta's starting pitcher for Saturday's game in Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Though Strider failed to escape the fifth inning and allowed five runs -- one shy of the total he surrendered in his first 11 relief appearances -- in his first MLB start Monday in Arizona, the hard-throwing rookie had some positive takeaways from the outing. He retired 11 of the 19 batters he faced via strikeout or groundout, and Mark Bowman of MLB.com notes that defensive misplays by Marcell Ozuna and Adam Duvall that didn't go down in the scorebook as errors contributed to Strider's ERA ballooning from 2.22 to 3.45. A trip to Coors Field isn't ideal for Strider as he attempts to whittle down his ERA, but he still looks like Atlanta's best option for the No. 5 starter role with the team having already cycled through a number of other pitchers at the back end of the rotation to little success this season.
May 31, 2022
Takes loss in first career start
Strider (1-2) was tagged with the loss against Arizona on Monday, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
There was lots of hype about Strider's move into a starting role after he tallied a 2.22 ERA and 13.7 K/9 across 11 appearances as a reliever to begin the season, but the transition didn't go as smoothly as Atlanta hoped. The right-hander gave up three runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth before he was lifted for a reliever after 72 pitches. On a more positive note, Strider racked up 14 swinging strikes and seven punchouts, showcasing his ability to fool batters when he's at his best. Should he stick in the rotation, Strider will face a challenge in his next start, which is scheduled to take place in Colorado this weekend.
May 29, 2022
Set for first career MLB start
Strider is listed as Atlanta's scheduled starting pitcher for Monday's game in Arizona, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander has been a standout in the Atlanta bullpen this season with a 2.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB across 24.1 innings, but he'll finally get a look in the rotation as the team attempts to put an end to its revolving door at the No. 5 starter spot. With Tucker Davidson being banished to Triple-A Gwinnett after issuing four walks in both of his past two starts, Strider will get the chance to bring stability at the back end of the Atlanta rotation. Since he hasn't covered more than four innings or 71 pitches in any of his extended relief outings this season, Strider might not be stretched out enough to handle a traditional starting role Monday, but he should be capable of offering fantasy managers strong ratios even if he faces a restricted workload. The 23-year-old looks like a strong speculative pickup in shallower leagues where he's still available.
May 19, 2022
Notches first career hold
Strider struck out the side in a perfect seventh inning Wednesday to record his first hold of the season in an extra-innings loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie looked very comfortable in his new setup role, but the rest of the Atlanta bullpen wasn't able to get the job done. Strider has a dominant 40.0 percent strikeout rate through 20.2 innings this season with a 2.61 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, and while he's no threat to Kenley Jansen in the closer spot, he should be able to collect holds quickly with more high-leverage usage.
May 17, 2022
Moving into higher-leverage role
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker suggested after Monday's 1-0 loss at Milwaukee that Strider will likely handle more higher-leverage work late in games in the wake of Tyler Matzek's (shoulder) impending move to the 15-day injured list, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports. "When you lose a guy of [Matzek's] caliber, we may need Strider to fill those late-inning leverage innings," Snitker said.
ANALYSIS
When Atlanta optioned Bryce Elder and Kyle Muller to Triple-A Gwinnett on May 1, Strider looked like a potential candidate to step into the final opening in the rotation, but the big club will instead promote Tucker Davidson from Gwinnett to give him another look as the No. 5 starter beginning with Tuesday's game against the Brewers. After working a career-high four innings in a bulk-relief role May 6, Strider would have been reasonably stretched out enough for starting duty, but Atlanta apparently believes he'll provide more value out of the bullpen as a high-leverage, multi-inning arm late in games. Look for Atlanta to stay away from Strider on Tuesday, however, as he tossed two scoreless innings in a 26-pitch relief appearance Monday.
May 7, 2022
Brilliant in bulk relief outing
Strider gave up four hits and struck out eight over four scoreless innings of relief but didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Entering the game after opener Jesse Chavez had coughed up two runs in the first inning, Strider shut down the Milwaukee offense and gave Atlanta a chance to tie the game up. Unfortunately, as soon as the rookie right-hander exited after firing 69 pitches (50 strikes), the Brewers' bats got rolling again. Strider battled some control issues in April, walking multiple batters in three straight appearances, but he appears to be tightening things up and has 13 strikeouts against only one walk over his last two outings and 7.2 innings. Atlanta has struggled to find a consistent fifth starter so far this season, but Strider could soon get a look in the rotation given his recent improvements. On the season, he sports a 2.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB through 16.2 innings.
Apr 18, 2022
Another scoreless outing
Strider didn't give up a hit or a run over 3.2 innings of relief in Sunday's loss to the Padres, walking three and striking out three.
ANALYSIS
The flamethrowing rookie continues to pile up whiffs and now boasts a 32.4 percent strikeout rate through his first nine big-league innings, but Strider's 17.6 percent walk rate seems likely to keep him from working his way out of a long relief role any time soon. His upside is sky high, whether as a future closer or with a move into the rotation, but for now the 23-year-old has more value as a dynasty asset than in redraft fantasy formats.
Apr 8, 2022
Dazzles in relief Thursday
Strider struck out five over two perfect innings of relief in Thursday's loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Entering the game with Atlanta down 6-1 in the top of the seventh inning, Strider sliced through the heart of Cincinnati's lineup. The rookie right-hander needed only 24 pitches (16 strikes) to breeze through his outing, hitting triple digits with his fastball twice and consistently sitting at 99 mph with his heater. Strider figures to handle a multi-inning role in a stacked Atlanta bullpen to begin the season, but his ability to pile up strikeouts while collecting the occasional win or hold should still give him fantasy value in deeper formats even if he doesn't graduate to a more high-profile gig.
Apr 3, 2022
Makes Opening Day roster
Strider is set to make Atlanta's Opening Day roster, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Barring any late roster additions, Strider, Tucker Davidson and William Contreras will be in the majors to open the season. Strider was competing for a rotation spot but will begin the campaign as a bullpen option, though he could also see some work as a sixth starter. The 23-year-old righty made his big-league debut with two appearances last season and spent most of the year at Double-A Mississippi, where he had a 4.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 94:29 K:BB over 63 innings.
Mar 25, 2022
Flashes heat in Tuesday's game
Strider gave up four hits and struck out three over two scoreless innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins and hit 100 mph with four of his pitches, Gabriel Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
In addition to clocking triple digits, 20 of Strider's 29 pitches in the outing reached 96 mph. The 23-year-old right hander made a dramatic ascent through the Atlanta system last season, starting out in Low-A but ending the year in the big-league bullpen, and it's easy to see why after Tuesday's performance. Strider is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Gwinnett, but it's not yet clear whether the organization will stretch him back out as a starter -- he started 14 games for Double-A Mississippi in 2021 and posted a 94:29 K:BB in 63 innings, albeit with a 4.71 ERA and 1.22 WHIP -- or whether he'll continue his development as a potential high-leverage bullpen arm.
Oct 8, 2021
Not on NLDS roster
Strider was not included on Atlanta's NLDS roster against Milwaukee
ANALYSIS
Strider debuted and threw 2.1 innings of relief on the final weekend of the regular season, allowing one run on two hits and walking one batter. Despite speculation that he may have a spot in the postseason bullpen, he'll be unavailable for the duration of the NLDS.
Oct 4, 2021
Earns win in relief Sunday
Strider (1-0) earned the win in relief Sunday against the Mets after tossing 1.1 scoreless innings, walking one.
ANALYSIS
Strider, who spent most of the season at Double-A Mississippi and posted a 4.71 ERA through 63 innings (14 starts), made his MLB debut earlier this week and now recorded the first big-league win of his career during the regular-season finale piggybacking Charlie Morton's 2.2-inning start -- he looked quite good, recording four outs and earning the win while also tossing 14 of his 22 pitches for strikes. He's not likely to be a factor in Atlanta's postseason run, but there's no question this was a positive year for the fourth-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Oct 1, 2021
Contract selected by Atlanta
Strider had his contract selected by Atlanta on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Strider is in the midst of his first professional campaign and is now poised to make his MLB debut in the final days of the regular season. He spent most of the season at Double-A Mississippi and posted a 4.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 95:29 K:BB across 63 innings (14 starts). The 22-year-old is unlikely to be a factor on Atlanta's postseason roster given his inexperience, but it will still be a good opportunity to get his feet wet in the majors.
Oct 1, 2021
Nearing big-league promotion
Strider will have his contract selected by Atlanta within the next couple days, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old was promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett at the start of the week and is now poised to join the major-league club after one appearance with the Stripers. Strider began the season at Low-A August but was quickly promoted to High-A Rome, and he spent most of the campaign with Double-A Mississippi. The 2020 draft pick has played well in his first year of professional ball with a 3.64 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 153:40 K:BB in 94 innings across all four minor-league levels.
