Scott picked up the save Saturday against Pittsburgh, striking out three over 1.1 innings while not allowing any hits or walks.

He returned in the ninth and struck out the side to nail down his 12th save of the season as the Marlins clinched their first playoff berth since 2020 with the win. Scott missed Wednesday's doubleheader at Citi Field while welcoming a new addition to his growing family, but he is back in time for Thursday's series finale. The 29-year-old left-hander had been serving as the Marlins' primary closer prior to his brief absence and boasts an overall 2.38 ERA with 101 strikeouts through 75.2 innings this season.

The Marlins placed Scott on the paternity list Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

The Marlins will be without their primary closer for up to three days as Scott spends time with his expanding family. Huascar Brazoban (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list to take Scott's roster spot.

Scott struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Saturday to record his 10th save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Brewers.

The lefty fired nine of 12 pitches for strikes while breezing through Milwaukee's 8-9-1 hitters. Scott did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Brewers.

An error put a runner on base, but Scott easily pitched around that to earn his eighth save of the season. He's converted five straight save chances since a blown save Sept. 1 versus the Nationals. He's also gone 18.2 innings without allowing an earned run, though he gave up two unearned runs in that aforementioned blown save. The 29-year-old has a 2.21 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 93:24 K:BB through 69.1 innings on the year. Given Scott's good performance, he should close the year as Miami's primary closer.

Scott picked up the save Sunday against the Phillies. He allowed one walk while striking out three over 1.2 scoreless innings.

Scott came on in relief of Andrew Nardi with one out in the eighth inning. With the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, Scott struck out Edmundo Sosa and Kyle Schwarber to preserve a 5-4 lead before working around a walk and a hit-by-pitch in the ninth to earn his seventh save. The 29-year-old Scott has emerged as an elite closing option for Miami of late -- he hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 17.2 innings, striking out 21 while issuing just three walks in that span. He lowered his ERA to 2.24 on the season with a 1.04 WHIP and 92:24 K:BB across 68.1 innings.

Scott picked up the save Friday against Philadelphia. He allowed zero hits and zero walks while striking out one over a perfect inning.

It was Scott's fourth save in five opportunities since taking over the closer's role from David Robertson in late August. Scott has now gone 16 consecutive innings spanning 14 appearances without allowing an earned run. Scott has quietly been one of the best relievers in baseball this season, holding a 2.30 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 89 strikeouts with seven wins, 24 holds and six saves over 66.2 innings.

Scott (7-4) blew the save but picked up the win in Friday's 8-5 extra-innings victory over the Nationals, giving up two unearned runs on two hits over two frames. He struck out one.

The southpaw couldn't stop the phantom runner from scoring in both the 10th and 11th innings, but a four-run eruption by the Marlins in the top of the 11th gave Scott plenty of cushion. He still hasn't been tagged for an earned run since July 31, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 14:2 K:BB through 13 innings over the last month, and at least for the moment, Scott appears to be the answer for Miami at closer.

Reports earlier in the day Sunday surfaced that trade deadline acquisition David Robertson was being removed from the closer role, leaving Scott as the likely candidate to take over as the closer. Despite pitching Saturday as well, Scott's name was called on to handle things in the ninth. He allowed two singles but got Jacob Young to ground into a double play to end the game. Scott has now posted nine straight scoreless outings dating back to Aug. 2 and is having a fantastic year with a 2.55 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 83:23 K:BB in 60 innings.

Scott appears to be the most likely candidate to step in as the Marlins' preferred closing option with Miami opting to remove David Robertson from the ninth-inning role, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

The Marlins haven't confirmed as much, but Robertson looks to be on the outs as Miami's closer after he blew his second save in three chances in Saturday's loss to the Nationals. Robertson has blown three of seven save opportunities overall for the Marlins since he was acquired from the Mets in late July, while Scott has been far more reliable over the past month in his high-leverage spots. He has yet to allow a run in eight appearances in August and has struck out 12 while nabbing two wins and three holds and scattering four hits and two walks over 8.1 innings.

Scott was hampered a mild right calf strain in his previous appearance Friday, but he needed just one day off to move past the issue before being made available out of the bullpen for the series finale. He served as the primary setup man in front of the newly acquired David Robertson, who tossed a perfect ninth inning to secure his first save with the Marlins.

Scott will remain in a high-leverage role for the Marlins after manager Skip Schumaker gave a vote of confidence to A.J. Puk as the team's closer Friday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

The southpaw relievers have been trending in opposite directions lately, as Puk has given up seven runs with two losses and two blown saves over his last five appearances, while Scott has a 0.00 ERA and 13:2 K:BB through seven innings in July. Nonetheless, Schumaker will stick with Puk in the ninth inning for now, but if his struggles continue, Scott appears to be the next man up for save chances.

Scott (4-1) picked up the win in Sunday's victory over the A's, walking one batter in a scoreless eighth inning.

The southpaw kept the game tied at 5-5 in the top of the eighth, and got rewarded when the Marlins took the lead in the bottom of the frame. Scott has reeled off 11 straight scoreless appearances, shaving nearly two runs off his ERA in the process, and on the season he sports a 3.21 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB through 28 innings. He also has nine holds and two saves in addition to his wins, and with A.J. Puk (elbow) closing in on his return, Scott figures to remain in a setup role.

Scott (2-1) earned the win in Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Cubs. He allowed no runs on two hits over one inning.

Scott worked around a pair of singles in the top of the eighth inning, coaxing a double-play ball from Nelson Velazquez to end the frame. Scott had a productive series against the Cubs, recording a win and a save over two scoreless innings. His ERA still sits at a subpar 5.25 with a 1.17 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB through 12 innings. The 28-year-old lefty was expected to share closing duties with A.J. Puk and Dylan Floro coming into the season, but he's fallen to a distant third on the depth chart. There's little reason to roster Scott at this point, outside of deeper holds leagues.

The 28-year-old has been streaky throughout his career when it comes to maintaining his control, but while he's dialed in he'll have fantasy value in formats that value holds.

Scott looks to be sharing closer duties with Dylan Floro and A.J. Puk, who typically pitch after him. Both Floro and Puk pitched on Friday, which is why manager Skip Schumaker gave Scott the nod. The southpaw has now registered five straight scoreless appearances, and currently sports a stingy 1.06 WHIP.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker mentioned Scott, A.J. Puk and Dylan Floro as being "in the mix" for closing situations to begin the season, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Both Scott and Floro have a similar amount of closing experience at the MLB level, while Puk, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, may profile as the most talented arm in the bullpen if he can enjoy the sustained run of health that has thus far eluded him in his professional career. The fact that Schumaker is a first-year manager makes it even more difficult to predict whether he'll end up setting on one of the aforementioned three pitchers or someone else to see the bulk of the save chances, or if he'll take a loose committee approach to the ninth inning for the balance of the campaign. Scott brings immense strikeout upside to the table and is fine to take a dart throw on late in drafts or pick up off the waiver wire with the hope that he falls into save chances, but his career-long control issues -- his 15.9 percent walk rate last season was the worst among all relievers who pitched at least 50 innings -- make it hard to envision him locking down the closing gig for the entirety of th

Scott (biceps) struck out one over a perfect inning of relief in Friday's 7-2 win over the Nationals in Grapefruit League play.

The 28-year-old southpaw made his spring debut over the weekend after a bout with left biceps discomfort prompted the Marlins to slow down his throwing progression earlier in camp. Scott looked plenty healthy in his outing against Washington, retiring the side with ease while generating two groundballs in addition to punching out a batter. Assuming he avoids any setbacks heading into Opening Day, Scott should be part of the Marlins' late-inning picture and could even find himself in the mix for saves, given that manager Skip Schumaker has yet to name a designated closer.

Scott (biceps) threw live batting practice Tuesday in Marlins camp, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

If he arrives back in camp Wednesday without any renewed discomfort, Scott should be cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut this Friday. He's been eased along so far at spring training because of minor discomfort in his left biceps, but it's looking like the 28-year-old high-leverage reliever is on track for Opening Day.

Scott has been slowed by some discomfort in his left biceps but has apparently made some nice progress of late. Assuming that progress continues, he should be ready for game action soon and could get in enough work to be ready for Opening Day. Scott is expected to be part of the Marlins' closer-by-committee approach in 2023.

Scott is scheduled to test the issue with a round of catch Tuesday in Marlins camp. For now, it doesn't seem to be anything overly concerning. The 28-year-old left-hander is in line to handle at least some share of the save opportunities in Miami this season, assuming his health cooperates.

Marlins manager Skip Schumaker indicated Wednesday he doesn't plan on using a traditional closer and will instead play matchups with Scott and the team's other high-leverage options, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports. "Our best guys are going to be against their best hitters," Schumaker said.

The veteran lefty led the Marlins with 20 saves last season, but control issues cost Scott the closing job down the stretch and allowed Dylan Floro to reclaim the ninth-inning role. Those two, along with newcomers Matt Barnes and A.J. Puk, figure to be in the mix for late-inning work, with Steven Okert (triceps) and JT Chargois potentially options as well. Given the sheer number of viable arms at the manager's disposal, there may not end up being one consistent save source on the Marlins this season, but plenty of fantasy value in formats that count holds as well.

Scott agreed to a $2.825 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

It's been a difficult second half for the 28-year-old as he has a 5.09 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 33:19 K:BB in 23 innings across 24 outings. Floro will likely be called upon first in any remaining save opportunities.

Scott gave up two runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning Friday to blow his sixth save of the season in a 10-6 extra-inning loss to the Dodgers.

Getting the call to protect a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Scott instead handed the lead over to Los Angeles, and he was only saved from his sixth loss of the year when Peyton Burdick homered to tie things back up in the bottom of the frame. Scott allowed one hit and struck out one batter over one inning Monday to earn a save over the Athletics.

Edward Cabrera tossed another scoreless outing for Miami, and he turned the ball over to Scott with the Marlins leading by three runs in the ninth. The closer gave up a one-out single to Sean Murphy but didn't really face much stress in registering the save. Scott is prone to the occasional blowup, but he's been pretty good of late, succeeding on six of his past seven save chances and striking out 12 batters over 9.1 innings during that stretch. However, he's also walked seven hitters during that period, highlighting the most significant flaw in his game this season.

One day after being tagged with three runs in a loss, Scott was thrust right back into a save situation Monday. He found himself in a two-out jam but escaped with his 17th save of the year. Over his last four outings, Scott has given up seven hits and five walks across just 4.1 frames but he's converted three out of those four save chances.

Scott (4-5) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks in one inning Sunday against Atlanta. He blew the save opportunity and took the loss.

Scott blew the save on the very first pitch he threw, serving up a game-tying shot to Michael Harris to begin the ninth. The 28-year-old southpaw then gave up two more runs and took his fifth loss of the year. It was his first blown save sine July 13 and the first time he gave up more than two runs in an outing since June 15. Scott is now sporting a 67:34 K:BB and a 4.60 ERA through 47 innings.

Following a mound visit, the lefty surrendered a two-strike, RBI single Tommy Pham, but he escaped the jam by striking out Joey Votto. The 27-year-old reliever has made 45 appearances (42.2 innings) this season and sports a 4.43 ERA with a 61:30 K:BB.

The southpaw faced Cincinnati's 9-1-2 hitters and needed only 11 pitches (seven strikes) to lock down the save. Scott had stumbled through July, posting a 4.26 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 12:11 K:BB through 12.2 innings and blowing three of his nine save chances, but for now he still appears to be manager Don Mattingly's top choice for the closer role.

He threw 11 of 19 pitches for strikes and the lone blemish on his final line came in the form of a two-out walk to Mark Canha. Scott has now converted 12 of 15 save chances on the year, though two of those blown opportunities have come in his last five outings. He's sporting a 4.04 ERA with a 54:22 K:BB through 35.2 frames.

Scott's inability to find the plate consistently is beginning to cost him, as he has a 4.66 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 13:9 K:BB through 9.2 innings over his last 10 appearances with two blown saves, and if Marlins manager Don Mattingly elects to switch closers again it appears as though Dylan Floro could be the next man up.

The southpaw blew the combined shutout after Sandy Alcantara delivered another eight dazzling innings, but after he served up a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to Taylor Ward with one out, Scott got Jared Walsh to fly out to end the game. He's been tagged for runs in back-to-back appearances, but Scott still seems to have a fairly secure hold on the closer role for Miami, posting a 3.07 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB through 14.2 innings since the beginning of June while converting nine of 11 save chances and collecting four wins.

Scott pitched in a third consecutive game Sunday and was unable to preserve the Marlins' one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. Although Scott was unable to earn the save Sunday, he's earned decent job security as the Marlins' closer over the first half of the season.

Scott allowed a one-out single but otherwise looked dominant to pick up his seventh save of the season. He has tallied each of Miami's last six saves and has allowed three earned runs -- all in one appearance -- across 8.2 innings as the closer. Scott's 16 walks across 28 total frames remain a concern, but his 45 strikeouts indicate he has the stuff to succeed in a ninth-inning role.

Scott's 38.6 percent strikeout rate to begin the season is elite, but it comes with a 12.3 percent walk rate, and his 4.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP through 12.1 innings highlight how volatile he's been. Despite seeing high-leverage work, the 27-year-old southpaw has zero wins or holds and only one save (on two chances) in 15 appearances for the Marlins.
