Adds another steal
Edman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Edman had multiple hits in six of his last nine games this season, picking up three steals while batting .371 (13-for-35) in that span. The utility man's production fell short of previous years in many areas, but his ability to seamlessly move between the middle infield and center field helped smooth things over in a difficult year for the Cardinals. He ends the campaign with a .248/.307/.399 slash line, 13 home runs, 27 steals in 31 attempts, 47 RBI and 69 runs scored across 137 contests.

Registers steal in win
Edman went 2-for-5 with a walk, one stolen base and three runs scored in Saturday's 15-6 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Edman has hit well to close out the campaign, posting five multi-hit efforts over his last eight games. The utility man has maintained a .246/.305/.398 slash line through 136 contests. He's added 13 home runs, 26 steals, 47 RBI, 68 runs scored, 25 doubles and four triples. Edman's bat has been a bit subpar, but his defensive versatility has helped him maintain steady playing time for the Cardinals.

Notches 13th homer
Edman went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Just a few days after reaching the 25-steal milestone, Edman tied his career-high in home runs Tuesday with 13. The long ball was his first of September. During his last eight appearances, Edman is 9-for-31 (.290) with one RBI and three runs scored.
Sep 23, 2023
Reaches 25-steal mark
Edman went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Edman entered Friday just 4-for-38 with one RBI over his previous nine games. The theft was his 25th of the year in 28 attempts, though it was also his first since Sept. 8. The utility man is up to a .241/.299/.390 slash line with 12 home runs, 46 RBI, 62 runs scored, 23 doubles and four triples through 129 contests. He should close out the year as the Cardinals' main second baseman with Nolan Gorman (hamstring) uncertain to return from the injured list.
Sep 20, 2023
On bench Wednesday
Edman is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Jose Fermin will start at second base and bat seventh for the Cardinals, who were officially eliminated from postseason contention Tuesday. Edman is slashing .242/.304/.274 in 69 plate appearances since the beginning of September.
Sep 13, 2023
Out of lineup Wednesday
Edman is absent from the lineup Wednesday at Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Richie Palacios is playing second base and Lars Nootbaar will patrol center field. Edman has gone 0-for-13 with four strikeouts over his last three games.
Sep 10, 2023
Stays warm Saturday
Edman went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Edman has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games, going 16-for-49 (.327) in that span. The utility man has also shown little hesitation on the basepaths with seven steals over that span. Edman is seeing regular playing time between second base, shortstop and center field lately. He's at a .251/.314/.416 slash line with 12 home runs, 24 steals, 45 RBI and 62 runs scored across 119 contests.
Sep 7, 2023
Adds another steal
Edman went 1-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 11-6 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Edman has been steady, going 8-for-21 (.381) during his seven-game hitting streak. He's bounced around defensively as usual, seeing time at second base, shortstop and center field in that span. The speedy utility man is up to 23 thefts on 25 attempts this year while adding a .246/.310/.416 slash line, 12 home runs, 42 RBI and 61 runs scored through 116 games.
Sep 3, 2023
Swipes two in win
Edman went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two steals in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Batting in his customary ninth spot in the order against a righty, Edman reached base three times to help spark the Cardinals to a win in the series finale. It was Edman's second multi-steal effort in four games, and he has now swiped 22 bags on the season. He's now slashing .246/.310/.415 with 12 homers, 41 RBI and 60 runs scored in 386 at-bats over 114 games.
Aug 30, 2023
Three steals, homer in win
Edman went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and three stolen bases in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
After swiping three bags earlier in the contest, Edman played the hero in the ninth inning with a two-run, two-out walk-off homer off Josh Hader. The home run was Edman's 12th of the year, leaving him one shy of his career high set last season. He'd been slumping at the plate coming into Wednesday's contest, going just 4-for-23 (.174) in his previous six games. Overall, Edman's slash line sits at .241/.300/.413with 57 runs scored and 41 RBI across 417 plate appearances, while he improved to 20-for-22 in stolen base attempts on the campaign.
Aug 21, 2023
Swipes two bags Sunday
Edman went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman led off the game for the Cardinals with a single and a stolen base and later stole his second bag of the game in the sixth. Coming into Sunday, Edman had just one steal over his last 27 games and is now 17-for-19 this season. The 28-year-old has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 30 steals but that looks to be a longshot for him in 2023. While he hasn't been running as much, Edman has showcased more power than in recent seasons, evidenced by his .421 slugging percentage and .172 ISO, which are his highest marks since his rookie season in 2019. For the year, Edman is slashing .249/.310/.421 with 11 homers, 38 RBI, 55 runs and a 26:58 BB:K in 380 plate appearances.
Aug 17, 2023
Hitting leadoff
Edman (calf) is playing center field and hitting leadoff versus the Mets on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Edman was removed from Wednesday's games against Oakland due to a right calf contusion. The centerfielder had fouled a ball off his right leg during an at-bat in the fifth inning. It was possible that the Cardinals would give him a game or two to recover, but he is back in the lineup with no games off.
Aug 16, 2023
Dealing with bruised calf
Edman was removed from Wednesday's game against Oakland due to a right calf contusion.
ANALYSIS
Edman fouled a ball off his right leg during an at-bat in the fifth inning and ended up having to leave the game. It's possible the Cards keep Edman out of the lineup for a day or two to allow him to recover, but fantasy managers should consider Edman day-to-day until more is known.
Aug 16, 2023
Tacks on homer
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Edman has gone 10-for-24 (.417) with four homers and two doubles during his six-game hitting streak. It's an impressive show of power from a player not known for his slugging. He's up to 11 homers, 37 RBI, 54 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and a .251/.314/.433 slash line through 97 contests. Edman is likely to continue starting at shortstop rather than shifting back to the outfield with Dylan Carlson (oblique) landing on the injured list, though that could change if or when the Cardinals decide to call up Masyn Winn from Triple-A Memphis.
Aug 12, 2023
Massive two-homer night
Edman went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 victory over Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Edman plated Tyler O'Neill in the second inning on a two-run shot off Craig Ragans then went deep again off Taylor Hearn in the eighth for a solo home run. The multi-homer effort was Edman's first of 2023 and pushed his season total to 10. The utility infielder has been red-hot over his last four games, hitting 7-for-15 (.467) with five runs scored, three homers and a pair of doubles.
Aug 11, 2023
Goes deep in win
Edman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-2 victory over Tampa Bay on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Edman accounted for the Cardinals' final run of the game, blasting a solo shot to right field in the ninth inning. It was his first homer since June 14, a span of 26 contests. Edman did steal five bases over that stretch, and that continues to be his primary draw in fantasy, as he's gone 15-for-17 in theft attempts while compiling a quiet .238/.304/.386 slash line with eight homers and 32 RBI over 343 plate appearances on the campaign.
Aug 5, 2023
Three hits, two RBI in win
Edman went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Edman came up a home run shy of the cycle in this contest. He's gone 6-for-20 (.300) with three strikeouts over five games since returning from a wrist injury, and he's seen a starting role at shortstop with Paul DeJong traded to Toronto. Edman is slashing .241/.302/.395 with seven homers, 31 RBI, 47 runs scored and 14 stolen bases over 89 games. His starting role is likely safe for a while, but St. Louis could call up top prospect Masyn Winn before the end of the season, which would likely force Edman to switch positions yet again.
Aug 1, 2023
Returns at shortstop Tuesday
Edman (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting seventh Tuesday versus the Twins.
ANALYSIS
It will be Edman's first major-league game since he landed on the injured list in early July because of right wrist inflammation. He looks poised to serve as the Cardinals' primary shortstop after Paul DeJong was traded Tuesday to the Blue Jays, though top prospect Masyn Winn is said to be knocking on the door for a late-season promotion.
Aug 1, 2023
Activated from injured list
St. Louis activated Edman (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman is a potential trade candidate for the Cardinals with the 6 p.m. ET deadline fast approaching, but for now he is back on their active major-league roster following a three-week absence to heal a bout of right wrist inflammation. The versatile 28-year-old has slashed .237/.303/.391 with seven homers and 14 steals in 84 games this season when healthy.
Jul 27, 2023
Rehab assignment Saturday
Edman (wrist) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman resumed taking live at-bats earlier this week and his sore right wrist has apparently responded well. Out since July 7, the 28-year-old super-utilityman should be back on the Cardinals' active roster by the middle of next week if all goes smoothly on the farm.
Jul 20, 2023
Set for live at-bats
Edman (wrist) is scheduled to begin taking live at-bats early next week, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman is currently doing throwing and fielding work without issue, but the big test for his sore right wrist will be how it holds up against contact swings. The versatile 28-year-old has been on the shelf since July 7 and received an injection in the wrist over the All-Star break to aid the healing process. He could perhaps be activated late next week if there are no setbacks from this point forward.
Jul 18, 2023
Begins throwing, fielding work
Edman (wrist) began a throwing program and fielded grounders Tuesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman has also been cleared to resume taking light swings as he ramps back up following a shutdown period that began just before the All-Star break. It's not yet clear whether he will require a minor-league rehab assignment before he returns from the right wrist inflammation that sent him to the injured list July 7.
Jul 14, 2023
Had injection over break
Edman received an injection in his right wrist during the All-Star break, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman is shut down from swinging a bat for the next few days, so it will likely be a while before he returns to St. Louis' lineup. Nolan Gorman has been filling in as the Cardinals' primary second baseman since Edman got hurt while Dylan Carlson receives most of the reps in center field.
Jul 7, 2023
Lands on injured list
The Cardinals placed Edman on the 10-day injured list Friday with right wrist inflammation.
ANALYSIS
Edman has missed the Cardinals' last two games due to issues in his right wrist. Although his MRI came back clean Thursday, his injury is apparently still severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. Edman will be eligible to return from the IL a few days after the All-Star break, and Jose Fermin will come up from Triple-A Memphis to take Edman's place on the roster.
Jul 6, 2023
MRI clean on wrist
An MRI taken Thursday on Edman's right wrist showed no structural damage, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday after experiencing pain in his wrist during pregame batting practice, but it might have just been a stinger. He's not starting Thursday's series finale against the Marlins and likely won't be used off the bench, but the versatile 28-year-old will presumably be able to return this weekend versus the White Sox.
Jul 6, 2023
Out due to wrist pain
Edman (wrist) is not in the lineup Thursday at Miami.
ANALYSIS
Edman told John Denton of MLB.com that he felt intense pain in his right wrist while taking pregame batting practice Wednesday, which prompted the Cardinals to scratch him from the starting lineup about 20 minutes before first pitch. It sounds like something that might require a stint on the injured list, but Edman remains part of the active roster for now. Dylan Carlson will play center field Thursday in Miami and Paul DeJong is at shortstop.
Jul 5, 2023
Dealing with wrist discomfort
Edman was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with right wrist discomfort.
ANALYSIS
Edman's absence allows for Dylan Carlson to step in the Cards' lineup while Edman takes Wednesday to recover. His injury doesn't seem to be too severe, so it's possible Edman returns within a day or two.
Jul 5, 2023
Scratched from lineup
Edman (undisclosed) was scratched from the lineup Wednesday versus the Marlins, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Lars Nootbaar is sliding over to center field and Dylan Carlson has been added to the lineup in right field. There is no word yet as to what caused Edman's sudden removal from the Cardinals' batting order.
Jun 25, 2023
Swipes 14th bag
Edman went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Edman is up to 14 steals on the season, six of which have come over 20 games in June. He's hitting just .200 (14-for-70) this month, but he's hit safely in eight of his last 10 contests. For the season, Edman is at a .242/.313/.410 slash line with eight home runs, 27 RBI, 41 runs scored, 14 doubles and three triples through 74 games overall.
Jun 21, 2023
Keeps running Tuesday
Edman went 1-for-5 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Edman has four steals over his last eight games while batting just .231 (6-for-26) with a 7:5 BB:K in that span. He's 13-for-14 on the basepaths this season, putting him in a good position to push for a third consecutive 30-steal campaign. He's slashing just .239/.310/.410 with seven home runs, 27 RBI and 39 runs scored, but he remains a versatile part of the Cardinals' defensive alignment while currently operating as the starting center fielder. A career-low .259 BABIP also suggests he's suffered some bad luck.
Jun 18, 2023
Picks up another steal
Edman went 0-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman has four steals in his last 11 games despite batting a paltry .105 (4-for-38) with five walks in that span. While he was able to find a way on base multiple times Sunday, that's been a rarity lately -- it's his strong defense in center field that has kept him in the lineup. Edman is at a .233/.299/.401 slash line with 12 stolen bases, seven home runs, 26 RBI and 35 runs scored across 253 plate appearances.
Jun 18, 2023
Notches steal in win
Edman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman's still not getting much going in June, bating .154 (8-for-52) on the month, but he has managed three stolen bases and four extra-base hits. He's remained the starting center fielder even with Dylan Carlson back from an ankle injury for the last week. Edman's slump has him down to a .235/.291/.403 slash line with seven home runs, 11 steals, 26 RBI and 34 runs scored through 68 contests, but his defensive versatility should keep his place in the lineup fairly secure.
Jun 15, 2023
Crushes grand slam in loss
Edman went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman had gone 26 games since his last home run before crushing a second-inning grand slam off Anthony DeSclafani to put the Cardinals up 4-2. He's now recorded just three extra-base hits in June, hitting .155 over that stretch, and has seen his average progressively decline with each passing month. The grand slam was the second of his career.
Jun 13, 2023
Posts 10th steal
Edman went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman's bat has turned cold -- he's gone 1-for-22 with two walks and two steals over his last six games. The 28-year-old continues to play in center field while the Cardinals continue to navigate missing multiple outfielders to injuries. Edman's slump has him down to a .237/.297/.398 slash line with 10 steals, six home runs, 22 RBI and 31 runs scored through 64 contests this season.
Jun 10, 2023
Remaining in center field
The Cardinals will continue to play Edman in center field even after the return Dylan Carlson (ankle) on Friday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
At least while Lars Nootbaar (back) and Tyler O'Neill (back) are on the shelf, the Cardinals have a more pressing need for Edman's defense in center field than in the infield. Dylan Carlson's defense stands out more in right field, and having Edman and Carlson out there together lessens the strain on Jordan Walker in left field.
Jun 7, 2023
Swipes bag despite going hitless
Edman went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Edman wound up stealing his ninth base of the year after walking in the sixth. He leads the Cardinals in steals but otherwise has lacked steady production at the plate. His last RBI was back on May 23 and he's notched just six hits in 12 games since then. For the year, the 28-year-old switch hitter is slashing .255/.316/.432 with six homers, 21 RBI, 30 runs and a 16:31 BB:K over 214 plate appearances.
May 31, 2023
Steals eighth bag
Edman went 0-for-2 with one run scored and one steal in Tuesday's victory over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Though Edman went hitless on the day, he left his mark in the scorebook during the eighth inning, stealing second base after being walked and eventually coming in to score on a Nolan Gorman sacrifice fly. Edman has provided some versatility for fantasy managers in 2023 with six home runs and eight stolen bases through 54 games while slashing .259/.318/.443.
May 23, 2023
Records steal in loss
Edman went 0-for-5 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Edman wasn't able to get his bat going in his first turn at leadoff since May 13, but he at least picked up his seventh steal of the season. The versatile 28-year-old has gone 12-for-26 (.462) over his last eight contests with a home run, four steal and three RBI in that span. He's slashing .277/.333/.466 on the season.
May 21, 2023
Collects three hits Sunday
Edman went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 10-5 win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Edman has gone 4-for-7 across two games since returning from abdominal soreness. He's logged multiple hits in three of his last seven contests, and he has four extra-base hits in that span. The utility man is slashing .287/.340/.483 with six home runs, six stolen bases, 18 RBI, 25 runs scored, eight doubles and a triple through 45 games this season.
May 20, 2023
Back as expected
Edman (abdomen) will bat ninth and play right field Saturday against the Dodgers, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman left Thursday's series opener following an outfield collision with Lars Nootbaar and didn't start Friday's contest, but he appeared off the bench. Expectations were that he'd be able to return to the lineup Saturday, and that's indeed the case.
May 19, 2023
Expects to return Saturday
Edman (abdomen) said he expects to return to the lineup Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman is absent from the Cardinals' starting lineup Friday night against the Dodgers after taking a shot to the abdomen/groin in Thursday's series opener. He checked out negative for any ruptures, though, and got through a workout without issue Friday afternoon in St. Louis.
May 19, 2023
Absent from lineup Friday
Edman (abdomen) is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Edman was pulled from Thursday's game due to abdominal soreness related to a collision with teammate Lars Nootbaar and is presumably day-to-day. Nolan Gorman is playing second base and batting third Friday for the Cardinals. Paul DeJong is at shortstop and Oscar Mercado is in right field.
May 18, 2023
Exits after outfield collision
Edman was removed from Thursday's game against the Dodgers due to lower abdomen soreness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman collided with Lars Nootbaar early in Thursday's game as the pair converged in the outfield to catch a flyball. He remained in the game briefly but was pulled before his next at-bat in favor of Juan Yepez. It's unclear how serious the issue may be, though the initial diagnosis doesn't suggest it's particularly serious.
May 18, 2023
Adds another steal
Edman went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Edman hit a two-out single and stole second in the second inning, but the Cardinals couldn't bring him home. He's been very productive of late, hitting safely in six of his last seven games while batting .440 (11-for-25) with three steals, a home run and three RBI in that span. With Tyler O'Neill (back) and Dylan Carlson (ankle) both out, Edman has started the last two games in right field. Nolan Gorman and Paul DeJong have found success as the middle-infield duo lately, so it's possible Edman's best path to playing time may be in the outfield in the near future.
May 17, 2023
Three more hits Tuesday
Edman went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
After Tuesday's effort, Edman now has seven hits, five runs and two RBI over his last two games. Prior to May 15, he had just six hits over 11 games in May. Edman's two stolen bases were his first since April 27. He's combined for 62 steals over the last two seasons, so expectations are that his stolen bases will pick up as the year carries on. He's now slashing .275/.333/.473 with six homers, 17 RBI, 22 runs, five steals and an 11:21 BB:K over 146 plate appearances.
May 16, 2023
Collects four hits in big win
Edman went 4-for-5 with a home run, four total runs and two total RBI against the Brewers in an 18-1 win Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals racked up 16 hits in the rout, and Edman was responsible for a quarter of those with his first four-hit performance of the campaign. Two of his hits came in the eighth inning, as he led off the 10-run frame with a solo homer and later notched a two-run single. This was a much-needed big game for the second baseman, as he had gone just 3-for-24 over his previous eight contests.
May 14, 2023
Sitting versus righty Sunday
Edman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Though Edman served as the Cardinals' leadoff man in each of the past three games, all of those starts came with St. Louis facing left-handed pitchers. He'll now find himself on the bench for the second straight matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher and could be in danger of falling into a timeshare at either middle-infield spot with Brendan Donovan and Paul DeJong.
May 9, 2023
Not in lineup Tuesday
Edman is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Paul DeJong will play shortstop and bat seventh versus the Cubs and right-hander Jameson Taillon. Nolan Gorman is at second base and hitting third. Willson Contreras will serve as the designated hitter and hit fifth.
May 6, 2023
Gets Saturday off
Edman will sit Saturday against the Tigers, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman started 20 of the Cardinals' first 21 games at shortstop, but his playing time has taken a hit since Paul DeJong was recalled in late April. In 13 games with DeJong on the roster, Edman has started five times at second base and four times at shortstop while finding himself on the bench on four occasions. DeJong starts at shortstop Saturday with Brendan Donovan starting at second base.
May 5, 2023
Swats fifth homer
Edman went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in a loss to the Angels on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Edman belted a three-run shot to right field in the fourth inning, giving him his first multi-RBI game since April 19. The shortstop had been in the midst of a slump coming into the contest, going just 2-for-15 over his previous three games. Edman is up to five homers and 13 RBI through 30 games on the campaign, putting him on pace to surpass last year's career-best marks of 13 long balls and 57 RBI.
Apr 28, 2023
Not in lineup Friday
Edman is not in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting Paul DeJong will handle shortstop duties and bat ninth versus the Dodgers and right-hander Dustin May. Brendan Donovan is starting at second base and batting eighth.
Apr 28, 2023
Active on offense in victory
Edman went 2-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI and a stolen base in a 6-0 win over the Giants on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Edman was quite productive in the outing, plating a run with an infield single in the seventh inning and scoring following a double in the ninth. He also stole his third bag of the campaign, two of which have come in his past five contests. Edman's fantasy managers have to be pleased to see him running more -- after swiping 30-plus bases in each of his previous two campaigns, he began 2023 with just one steal over his first 19 contests.
Apr 26, 2023
Gets Wednesday off
Edman isn't starting Wednesday against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman has been hot at the plate recently, boasting a 1.026 OPS over his last five games. However, he will sit Wednesday in favor of Paul DeJong, who will start at shortstop and bat ninth.
Apr 26, 2023
Goes deep in loss
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Edman took a changeup offering from Sean Manaea over the wall in center field for his fourth home run of the season and the third over his last six games. He would reach again on a fielder's choice in the eighth and later score in the inning. The 27-year-old has turned it up at the dish over the last week, slashing .353/.450/1.059 with three homers, seven RBI, six runs and a 3:0 BB:K. Even with his recent surge at the plate, Edman is still seeing himself bat at the bottom of the order against righties while he's near the top of the lineup against lefties.
Apr 23, 2023
Not in Sunday's lineup

The long ball was the second in a span of three games for Edman, a stretch during which he's gone 5-for-11 with four extra-base hits and six RBI. Edman had been cold in his six contests prior to the three-game pickup, going 3-for-20 without an extra-base hit.

Supplies walk-off hit Sunday
Edman went 2-for-5 and had a walk-off single in the 10th as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 5-4.
ANALYSIS
Edman redeemed himself with the game-winning hit after he had grounded into an inning-ending double play in the fourth with the bases loaded. It was just his second RBI on the year and his fourth multi-hit effort. The Cardinals are slated to face five righties this coming week, meaning Edman should continue to be slotted into the bottom part of the order a majority of the time.

Edman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 9-4 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Edman's hit well through three games, going 4-for-12, though all of his hits have been singles. His steal was his first of the campaign after he went 32-for-35 on the basepaths a year ago. Edman's starting at shortstop but hitting ninth against right-handed pitchers to begin 2023, which limits potential to pile up counting stats. He's still in consideration to be the leadoff hitter versus southpaws.

ANALYSIS
Denton lists Edman, Brendan Donovan and Lars Nootbaar as options for the leadoff spot. The switch-hitting Edman has dramatic splits with a career .829 OPS versus lefties and .701 OPS against righties. Mentally prepared for season
Edman thinks playing for South Korea at the World Baseball Classic helped his mental preparation for the regular season, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
South Korea didn't advance out of pool play, and Edman went just 2-for-11 with two RBI and a run scored while at the tournament. Nonetheless, it sounds like the veteran infielder has gained some benefit from competing on the international stage. Edman hit .265 with a .724 OPS, 13 home runs, 32 stolen bases, 57 RBI and 95 runs scored over 153 games last season. He can play a variety of positions for the Cardinals, but he's most likely to see time at shortstop and second base.

The 27-year-old has slashed .253/.315/.378 with 10 homers, 44 RBI, 82 runs scored and 26 steals through 124 contests this season, though his productivity could take a hit as he remains at the bottom of the order in recent games in favor of Lars Nootbaar as the leadoff hitter.

Shows off speed Thursday
Edman went 3-for-5 with a triple and a stolen base in Thursday's 8-3 win over the Cubs.

Edman's batted .268 with a .743 OPS, four steals, two home runs, eight RBI and 13 runs scored through 22 games in August. Lars Nootbaar appears to have taken over leadoff duties against right-handed pitchers while Dylan Carlson does the same against most lefties, leaving Edman to provide solid hitting from a deeper spot in the lineup.

Idle Sunday
Edman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Nolan Gorman and Paul DeJong will form the Cardinals' double-play tandem in the middle infield while Edman sits after starting the past three games. Edman last batted out of the leadoff spot July 27, and because he's slashed a lowly .224/.274/.328 in 18 games since, he'll likely continue to occupy a spot in the lower half of the St. Louis lineup when he starts.
Aug 17, 2022

The switch hitter isn't known for big power numbers, but he's usually a little more productive at hitting for contact. For the season, Edman sports a .256/.318/.370 slash line with eight long balls, 39 RBI, 72 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, 19 doubles and three triples in 111 games.

Edman's been solid at the plate, but he hadn't recorded a three-hit game since June 14. He's picked up three steals, four RBI, eight runs scored and two doubles in his last 11 games, hitting .275 in that span. The versatile infielder is up to a .259/.324/.372 slash line with 22 stolen bases, seven home runs, 37 RBI, 69 runs scored, 18 doubles and three triples through 102 contests this season. He'll likely be back at second base more frequently since Paul DeJong has reclaimed a starting role at shortstop after getting recalled from Triple-A Memphis last Saturday. The 27-year-old second baseman has only been caught stealing twice this season and is on pace to well surpass his career-high 30 bags in 2021. Edman went 3-for-6 with two doubles, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 18-4 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old started at shortstop for the second time in the last three games with Nolan Gorman back in the lineup Sunday, and Edman capped off a strong series against the Pirates with his three-hit performance. Edman has crossed the plate in nine of the last 12 games and has hit .280 with a home run, a triple, three doubles, 13 runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases during that time.
May 19, 2022
Shifting to shortstop
Edman will primarily play shortstop moving forward with prospect Nolan Gorman being promoted Friday to play second base, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman has started at the keystone in 35 of 37 games this season, but he'll now shift to shortstop with Gorman being promoted in the wake of Paul Dejong's demotion last week. Edman struggled the past two years but has a .269/.367/.431 in 2022 and has reclaimed the leadoff role, and the positional move will give him a minor boost in fantasy once he reaches the eligibility threshold.
May 19, 2022
Starting Thursday
Edman is back in the starting lineup Thursday, playing second base and batting leadoff versus the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman missed Wednesday's loss to the Mets while dealing with calf soreness, but he'll be ready to go for Thursday's series finale. After batting .300 with five multi-hit games in April, the 27-year-old has produced a .233 average in May and hasn't had a multi-hit effort since May 5.
May 18, 2022
Dealing with calf soreness
Edman isn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Mets due to calf soreness, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman was hit by a pitch in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, and Brendan Donovan will take his place at the keystone a day later. However, Edman will be available off the bench, so it doesn't appear as though his injury is a significant concern.
May 18, 2022
Riding pine Wednesday
Edman isn't starting Wednesday against the Mets, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman is currently riding a four-game hit streak in which he's gone 4-for-16 with a homer, a triple, four runs, two RBI and a stolen base, but he'll be out of the lineup for the first time since May 2. Brendan Donovan will shift to second base while Edmundo Sosa starts at shortstop.
May 18, 2022
Steals ninth bag
Edman went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, a run and a stolen base during Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman went 1-for-3 during the matinee and was on base twice in the nightcap via a triple and a hit by pitch. The 27-year-old has a .241/.343/.379 slash line with one home run, seven RBI, 13 runs and four stolen bases through 15 games in May.
May 14, 2022
Hits solo homer
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Saturday's win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with a solo shot off Jakob Junis in the fifth inning. He's now homered four times this season, putting him on pace for 20, a number which would smash his previous career high of 11.
May 14, 2022
Notches eighth steal
Edman went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 8-2 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman got aboard with a walk, stole second and scored on a Paul Goldschmidt groundout in the first inning. Friday's 0-fer ended a modest three-game hitting streak for Edman, but he was able to pick up his first steal since May 7. The speedy second baseman is slashing .277/.372/.420 with eight steals, three home runs, 16 RBI and 21 runs scored through 130 plate appearances.
May 10, 2022
Likely to remain at second base
Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak hinted that Edman may continue to see most of his starts at second base even after everyday shortstop Paul DeJong was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Mozeliak suggested that Edman will continue to get reps at shortstop during pregame activities over the next few days before the Cardinals contemplate a position change, but the club doesn't seem overly motivated to shift him off second base and potentially disrupt his excellent start to the season both in the field and at the plate. Before Edman gets a look at shortstop, the Cardinals are likely to give chances to Brendan Donovan -- who picks up his first MLB start at the position Tuesday -- and Edmundo Sosa (illness), who is expected to return from the COVID-19 injured list later this week. Edman, meanwhile, will remain at the keystone and bat leadoff in Tuesday's series opener.
May 10, 2022
Moving to shortstop
Edman is expected move over from second base to serve as the Cardinals' everyday shortstop following the demotion of Paul DeJong to Triple-A Memphis, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman began his tenure with the Cardinals as a utility player in 2019, but in the majority of fantasy leagues, he carried only second base and outfield eligibility into 2022. He has played exclusively at the keystone through his 27 games this season, but he looks like he'll have a chance at gaining eligibility at shortstop. How long Edman sticks at the position will be determined by the length of DeJong's stint in the minors, as well as what kind of role the Cardinals envision Edmundo Sosa (illness) handling once he's activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Sosa had previously been DeJong's backup, but the Cardinals could opt to give him a trial as the everyday shortstop while moving Edman back to second base.
May 8, 2022
Adds seventh steal
Edman went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 13-7 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman's picked up two steals in his last four games, though both have been in contests where he doesn't have a hit. The second baseman is sporting a 13.3 walk rate which has helped him post a sturdy .408 on-base percentage through 108 plate appearances. He's up to seven steals, three home runs, 14 RBI and 18 runs scored in 26 games this season.
May 6, 2022
Notches three RBI in three-hit game
Edman went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and three RBI in Thursday's 7-1 victory over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman once again served as a catalyst atop the order for the Cardinals, finishing with his seventh multi-hit performance of the campaign and producing a season-best three RBI. The second baseman knocked in a pair of runs with a single in the fifth inning and drove home another run with a single in the seventh. Edman could be on his way to a breakout campaign, as he's slashing .325/.429/.494 with three homers, 14 RBI, 17 runs and six stolen bases across 99 plate appearances.
May 5, 2022
Solid in big win
Edman went 0-for-2 with three walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 10-0 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Edman has recorded five of his six steals this season in his last eight games, batting .333 (9-for-27) in that span. The second baseman's strong hitting of late has helped him regain a near-everyday spot atop the order. He's at a .308/.419/.474 slash line with three home runs, 11 RBI and 16 runs scored in 23 contests.
May 4, 2022
Two hits in return
Edman went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Edman missed one game with left hip flexor soreness. He was the only Cardinal to muster multiple hits in this contest. The second baseman is up to a .316/.409/.487 slash line with three home runs, 11 RBI and 14 runs scored in 89 plate appearances. He was caught stealing for the first time this season, which puts him at 5-for-6 on the basepaths. Edman's strong hitting to begin 2022 has helped him regain the leadoff spot in the order after he lost it to Dylan Carlson during spring training.
May 3, 2022
Back in action Tuesday
Edman (hip) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Tuesday's game against the Royals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Just as manager Oliver Marmol suggested was the case, the left hip flexor soreness that Edman experienced in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks was never a major concern, even though the 26-year-old was out of the lineup for Monday's 1-0 win over Kansas City. Edman's re-entry into the starting nine a day later implies that he was on the bench Monday mainly for precautionary purposes, so fantasy managers should bank on him playing in each of the Cardinals' remaining six games this week.
May 2, 2022
Expected to be available Tuesday
Manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that he expects Edman (hip) to be available for Tuesday's game against the Royals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old sat out Monday's game against Kansas City as a precautionary measure after he was removed from Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks with a sore left hip flexor. Marmol has consistently downplayed the severity of the issue, and while Edman will be re-evaluated Tuesday, it seems likely that he'll return to the lineup after missing just one matchup.
May 2, 2022
Not concerned about injury
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Edman is feeling great and the team has little concern about the second baseman's sore left hip flexor, even though he's out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman picked up the injury in the seventh inning of Sunday's 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks, but Marmol suggested that the 26-year-old's removal was mostly made out of an abundance of cautious. Marmol is terming Edman's absence from the lineup as more of a rest and rehab day, which should be beneficial given that Edman had started in each of the Cardinals' first 21 games of the season. Brendan Donovan will get the nod at second base Monday, but expect Edman to reclaim starting duties at the position Tuesday, when the series shifts from St. Louis to Kansas City.
May 2, 2022
Not starting Monday
Edman (hip) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman exited Sunday's 7-5 win over the Cardinals with a sore left hip flexor and is considered day-to-day, but he was overdue for a day off anyway after having started in each of the team's first 21 games of the season. Assuming he's able to make progress in the next day or two, Edman should avoid a stint on the injured list. The Cardinals will turn to Brendan Donovan to replace Edman at second base Monday.
May 1, 2022
Managing hip flexor tightness
Edman exited Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks due to tightness in his left hip flexor, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman singled in the bottom of the fifth inning but ran awkwardly to first base and was removed from the game shortly after. Manager Oliver Marmol didn't sound too concerned about the 26-year-old's injury, so he should be considered day-to-day for now.
May 1, 2022
Exits early Sunday
Edman was removed from Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks in the top of the seventh inning with an apparent injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Woo, Edman was running awkwardly after singling to right field in what proved to be his final plate appearance of the day in the bottom of the fifth, but he still played the field for the next inning before ultimately bowing out of the contest. The Cardinals will likely provide an update on the nature and extent of Edman's injury after the contest. If the issue is something that forces Edman to the injured list, top prospect Nolan Gorman could get a call-up from Triple-A Memphis to fill the void at the keystone.
Apr 30, 2022
Records fifth steal
Edman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Edman has shown no hesitation to run lately with four of his five stolen bases on the year coming in the last four games. The second baseman has a .318/.416/.515 slash line with three home runs, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored, a triple and two doubles through 19 contests. That's earned him a share of time at the leadoff spot, split with Dylan Carlson.
Apr 29, 2022
Scores three runs, knocks in two
Edman went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI and a walk Thursday in an 8-3 win against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Edman once again was a catalyst from the leadoff spot, scoring the Cardinals' first run in the first inning and crossing the plate again in each of the second and sixth frames. The second baseman also drove in a pair of runs while notching his fifth multi-hit game of the season. Edman is thriving to begin the campaign, slashing .323/.425/.532 with three homers, 11 RBI, 12 runs and four stolen bases across 74 plate appearances.
Apr 27, 2022
Three hits in Wednesday's win
Edman went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The second baseman went 0-for-9 over the prior three games, but he snapped the mini-slump in impressive fashion. Edman has three of his four steals on the season in the last two contests, and he sports a .310/.412/..534 slash line on the season with three homers, nine runs and nine RBI.
Apr 27, 2022
Two thefts in loss
Edman went 0-for-2 with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Edman didn't picked up one of the Cardinals' three hits, but he was still able to find ways aboard Tuesday. The 26-year-old then used his speed to get into scoring position, but the Cardinals were unable to bring him home. The second baseman is slashing. 283/.397/.509 with three home runs, eight RBI, six runs scored and three stolen bases through 16 contests. He's led off in four straight games, but he's unlikely to see more than a split of that spot in the lineup with fellow switch-hitter Dylan Carlson.
Apr 21, 2022
Swipes first bag of season
Edman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
The steal was his first of the season, on his first attempt. While Edman hasn't been running much to begin the season, he's otherwise been extremely effective, slashing .371/.421/.714 with three homers and seven RBI while hitting safely in all 10 games so far. That surge got the 26-year-old second baseman bumped up to the leadoff spot Wednesday for the first time this year.
Apr 16, 2022
Homers, drives in two
Edman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in a 10-1 win Friday over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Edman homered off Jose Urena in the fifth inning to give the Cardinals an 8-0 lead. He has now hit safely in all six games this season and has four extra-base hits. After batting leadoff for the majority of last season, the 26-year-old has hit ninth in all but one start this season. However, his 1.350 OPS is hard to ignore and could warrant some upward movement if he continues to hit well.
Apr 15, 2022
Slugs second homer
Edman went 1-for-2 with a solo home run Thursday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Edman provided the lone offensive production for the Cardinals when he took Jandel Gustave yard in the eighth inning. He has swung a hot bat to start the season, as he has now collected at least one hit in each of his five starts. Edman also has two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored early on in the campaign.
Apr 7, 2022
Swats solo shot
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 9-0 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Edman hit ninth Thursday against the right-handed JT Brubaker after hitting leadoff in an everyday role last season. His first hit of the season left the yard in the eighth inning off reliever Aaron Fletcher. Edman isn't known for his pop -- he's posted a modest 27 homers across his three major-league seasons. Batting at the bottom of the order could hurt the second baseman's production due to a drop in the volume of his plate appearances, though there's still a chance he'll hit leadoff against southpaws.
Mar 31, 2022
Could drop in order
Edman is just 1-for-20 with one runs scored in seven Grapefruit League games.
ANALYSIS
Edman served as the Cardinals' leadoff hitter for much of last season, but he was dropped to eighth in the order for Wednesday's game versus the Nationals. The 26-year-old is versatile enough on defense to stick in the lineup regularly, but he could be pushed by Edmundo Sosa for the starting gig at second base since Paul DeJong has solidified his place at shortstop. Hitting lower in the order would make it tough for Edman to replicate his 30-steal season from 2021, though he's expected to at least begin the year splitting the leadoff spot with Dylan Carlson and Harrison Bader.
Oct 7, 2021
Scores lone run in loss
Edman went 3-for-5 with a pair of steals and a run scored in Tuesday's wild-card loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Edman led off the game with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a foul out and came around to score on a wild pitch. That proved to be all the runs the Cardinals could manage in their 3-1 defeat, though Edman certainly did his part, accounting for three of the team's five hits.
Oct 2, 2021
Riding pine Saturday
Edman isn't starting Saturday's game against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman will get a chance to reset after he went 1-for-9 with a run, a stolen base and a strikeout across the last two games. Edmundo Sosa (wrist) will return to the lineup at second base while Paul DeJong starts at shortstop.
Oct 2, 2021
Records 29th steal
Edman went 0-for-5 in a win over the Cubs on Friday but recorded a stolen base after reaching on a fielder's choice groundout in the fifth inning.
ANALYSIS
Edman therefore managed to avoid a complete fantasy dud on the night, but his slump at the plate did extend to six games. The outfielder is just 3-for-27 over the course of his skid, although the fact he's only struck out three times during the sample while producing a BABIP just over the Mendoza Line hints at some short-term misfortune when putting the ball in play.
Sep 29, 2021
Not starting Wednesday
Edman isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Milwaukee, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman has gone 2-for-18 with two strikeouts across the last four games, and he'll get his first day off in over a month after the Cardinals clinched a postseason spot Tuesday. Jose Rondon will start at the keystone and bat seventh.
Sep 24, 2021
Three hits in matinee win
Edman went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in an 8-5 win over the Cubs in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was productive in the first game of the twin bill. He notched his 28th steal in 33 attempts while adding his fifth multi-hit effort in 10 games. Edman has a less enjoyable nightcap, going 0-for-5 in that contest. Overall, the second baseman has a .265/.311/.390 slash line with 10 home runs, 54 RBI, 88 runs scored and 41 doubles through 663 plate appearances as St. Louis' main leadoff hitter.
Sep 22, 2021
Runs wild in Tuesday's win
Edman went 2-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, one run and one RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Brewers. He'll remain in the lineup Wednesday, starting at second base and batting leadoff, according to Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.
ANALYSIS
After bagging 17 steals in 576 plate appearances through his first two seasons in the big leagues, Edman has increased his aggressiveness on the bases in Year 3, much to the delight of fantasy managers. After adding another two steals to the ledger Tuesday, Edman is now 27-for-32 on stolen-base attempts in 2021. His total ties him for fifth place in the majors entering play Wednesday, leaving him behind only Starling Marte, Whit Merrifield, Trea Turner and Cedric Mullins in the category.
Sep 13, 2021
Swipes 25th base
Edman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in a win over the Reds on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Nolan Arenado did all the damage on the scoreboard with a first-inning two-run home run, but Edman gave fantasy managers something to smile about with more success on the basepaths. The proficient leadoff hitter's stolen base was his fourth of September and 25th of the campaign, and he's now sporting a modest three-game hitting streak as well.
Sep 7, 2021
Laces another two-bagger
Edman went 2-for-4 with a run in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
There was precious little meaningful contact to go around for the Cardinals on Monday with Max Scherzer on the hill, but Edman still managed to lace his 37th double for one of six hits against the dominant right-hander. Edman extended his hitting streak to six games with his productive afternoon, part of a month-plus tear at the plate that's seen him produce a .305 average, .862 OPS and 17 extra-base hits (13 doubles, four home runs) over the 32 games he's played since Aug. 1.
Sep 1, 2021
Socks homer No. 10
Edman went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a 12-2 loss to the Reds during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The switch hitter led off the nightcap with his 10th homer of the season, but the lead only lasted three batters into the bottom of the first inning. Edman also went 1-for-4 with a run scored in the matinee, and over his last 20 games he's batting .341 (28-for-82) with three home runs, two steals, 14 RBI and 20 runs.
Aug 30, 2021
Caps off huge week
Edman went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBI and an additional run in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
After closing out the series in Pittsburgh with another excellent game, Edman was named the National League's Player of the Week on Monday. Over a six-game stretch from Aug. 23 to 29, Edman went 12-for-26 (.462 average) with two home runs, two stolen bases, 10 RBI and seven runs.
Aug 29, 2021
Tallies four hits Saturday
Edman went 4-for-6 with a double, two runs and two RBI in Saturday's 13-0 blowout of the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Edman's legs served him well in the contest -- both of his run-scoring hits were infield singles. He finished with his second four-hit game of the campaign and eighth multi-hit effort in his past 13 contests. Over that span, he is batting a scorching .386 (22-for-57) with a home run, 13 runs, 11 RBI and two stolen bases.
Aug 27, 2021
Homers in win
Edman went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a 4-3 win over the Pirates on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Edman continued his red-hot run at the plate Friday collecting three RBI which included a fifth inning two-run home run. Batting in the leadoff spot, Edman has now collected a hit in 13 of his last 14 games with one home run and nine RBI.
Aug 27, 2021
Keeps raking in loss
Edman went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and two runs in a loss to the Pirates on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The hot-hitting leadoff man continued his torrid stretch at the plate Thursday, lacing a pair of hits for the fifth time in seven games and knocking in his fifth and sixth runs over the last 11 contests. Edman is hitting a blistering .362 across 53 plate appearances over the latter span, with the only quibble perhaps that only four of his 17 hits have gone for extra bases, and none have left the yard.
Aug 25, 2021
Steals another bag, singles twice
Edman went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 3-2, extra-inning with over the Tigers
ANALYSIS
Edman has stolen a base in consecutive games after going 16 contests without doing so. He's hit .349 in his last 10 games, albeit with only three extra-base hits and four RBI. Edman has become a steady presence atop St. Louis' lineup, hitting well enough that Dylan Carlson, back from a wrist injury, appears to be the three-hitter going forward despite having hit leadoff in 15 of his last 20 games before going on the injured list.
Aug 25, 2021
Tallies 20th steal
Edman went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The second baseman singled to lead off the Cardinals' half of the first inning and subsequently stole second base, though he was ultimately stranded at third. He is batting .342 (13-for-38) over his past nine games.
Aug 22, 2021
Keeps raking Saturday
Edman went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday.
ANALYSIS

Aug 20, 2021
Two doubles Thursday
Edman went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a run, RBI and strikeout as St. Louis defeated Milwaukee, 8-4 on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Edman doubled and scored in the first inning for the Cards' first run and doubled home a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-4. The second baseman extended his hitting streak to seven games, a streak that includes five doubles, though he's currently sporting a career low .680 OPS.
Aug 15, 2021
Scores twice in win
Edman went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and two RBI in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Even after a strong day at the dish Saturday, Edman is still off to a slow start to August, delivering a .190/.277/.333 slash line through his first 11 starts of the month. Though his production has fallen off considerably since his 2019 rookie campaign, Edman looks to have plenty of job security as the Cardinals' everyday second baseman. He'll man the keystone and bat leadoff in Sunday's series finale.
Aug 10, 2021
Smacks seventh homer
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and and a walk Tuesday against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS

Edman has struggled to a .252/.300/.376 line across 468 plate appearances for the season, though his fantasy value has been propped up by 19 stolen bases.
Aug 5, 2021
Gets breather Thursday
Edman isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Edman cooled off to begin the series against Atlanta, as he went 0-for-8 with a stolen base and a strikeout across the last two games. He'll take a seat for the series finale while Matt Carpenter starts at the keystone and bats fifth.
Aug 2, 2021
Wielding hot second-half bat
Edman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs in a win over the Twins on Sunday, is hitting .316 (12-for-38) with six two-baggers, one home run, five RBI, three walks, two steals and five runs across his last 11 games.
ANALYSIS
Edman has hit safely in 10 of those contests as well, with seven of his 12 hits in that span impressively going for extra bases. The 26-year-old's well-rounded fantasy profile includes 26 doubles, three triples, six home runs and 18 stolen bases, numbers that help enhance his value despite his rather ordinary .259/.304/.380 slash line.
Jul 31, 2021
Knocks in three

ANALYSIS

The double was his fourth in his past five contests and extended his hitting streak to nine games. Edman is slashing a modest .257/.303/.376 on the season, but he has collected a career-high 18 steals through 101 contests.
Jul 21, 2021
Smacks sixth homer
Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Edman took Rex Brothers deep in the sixth inning to record his sixth homer of the season. After failing to go yard for 39 games between May 27 and July 9, Edman now has two home runs in his last six contests. Still, Edman's primary contributions should be expected to come from his baserunning and speed, as he has 16 stolen bases and 49 runs scored across 402 plate appearances on the campaign.
Jul 18, 2021
Not starting Sunday
Edman is on the bench for Sunday's series finale against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Edman sits following an 0-for-3 performance Saturday that dropped his average to .225 in the last 10 games. The 26-year-old is just a .241 hitter against right-handed pitching, so he gets the day off against Johnny Cueto, with Matt Carpenter starting at second base and batting sixth.
Jul 11, 2021
Snaps skid off bench
Edman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-0 win over the Cubs.

ANALYSIS
St. Louis will withhold Edman from the starting nine for the second day in a row after he was previously scratched ahead of Tuesday's 2-1 win when he experienced torso tightness. ANALYSIS
Edman didn't get a hit in the contest, but he still helped fantasy managers who roster him with his fourth stolen base of the campaign. After swiping only two bags in six tries in 2020, Edman has looked more like the stolen-base threat he was in his 2019 rookie campaign, when he was successful on 15 of 16 theft attempts. The 25-year-old has accounted for two homers, four RBI and nine runs scored this season.

Struggling early in leadoff role
Edman is hitting just .167 (2-for-12) with two walks and one run over his first three games while operating out of the leadoff spot.
ANALYSIS
Edman was outstanding this spring no matter where he slotted into the order, slashing .378/.404/.422 across 47 plate appearances. However, the 25-year-old has gotten off to a very slow start now that the games have started to count, but Edman has yet to strike out over 14 plate appearances and has been a bit unlucky early with a .167 BABIP.
Mar 28, 2021
Locked in as top second baseman
Manager Mike Shildt confirmed Sunday that Edman would serve as the Cardinals' Opening Day starter at second base, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman's standing as an everyday player wasn't in much doubt heading into the regular season, but Shildt's comments should provide more reassurance for the 25-year-old's fantasy investors. In addition to his grasp of a full-time role, Edman is expected to serve as the Cardinals' primary leadoff man, an assignment that could lead to more running opportunities after he went 2-for-6 on stolen-base chances in the abbreviated 2020 campaign. With Edman locked in atop the depth chart at the keystone, veteran Matt Carpenter is expected to begin the season as a part-time player for St. Louis.
Mar 6, 2021
Hot at plate early in spring
Edman, who went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in a Grapefruit League loss to the Nationals on Friday, is hitting .429 (3-for-7) with a double over three spring games while filling the leadoff role in each contest.
ANALYSIS
Edman is clearly going to get a long look at filling the top-of-the-order role that his predecessor at second base, Kolten Wong, often operated out of with success during his Cardinals tenure. The versatile Edman's hot start at the plate, albeit over a small sample, is encouraging, considering he saw an offensive downturn in 2020 in the form of a .250/.317.368 slash after producing a much more impressive .304/.350/.500 line across his 349 major-league plate appearances in 2019.
Mar 1, 2021
Candidate for leadoff role
Edman, who led off in Sunday's Grapefruit League opener against the Nationals, has the skill set to potentially handle the role on a regular basis during the season, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The versatile Edman is a switch hitter who possesses excellent speed and had 19- and 27-stolen-base tallies during two stops in his minor-league career. Edman also regularly posted contact rates above 80.0 percent before making his big-league debut in 2019, and he's generated figures of 81.3 percent and 76.5 percent in his first two seasons in the majors. Working out of the top of the order Sunday, Edman singled and scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and is likely to get consistent opportunities in the leadoff role during Grapefruit League games.
Feb 27, 2021
Ready for multiple roles if needed
Edman is still projected to serve as the Cardinals' primary second baseman this coming season but is prepared to put in time at other positions as well if necessary, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman has been a true jack of all trades for the Cardinals over his first two seasons, logging 37 appearances at second base, 86 at third base, 13 at shortstop and 34 in the outfield, the majority in right field. With long-time second baseman Kolten Wong signing with the Brewers this offseason, Edman appears to be a natural fit at the keystone, but Matt Carpenter's presence could factor into that equation. Manager Mike Shildt would like to keep Carpenter's bat in the lineup if the veteran distinguishes himself during spring training, and with the acquisition of Nolan Arenado, the latter's old third base spot is spoken for. Edman may therefore split some time at second with Carpenter, but he could shift to other positions when Shildt wants to keep both hitters in the lineup. Although the majority of his spring training reps have come at second thus far, he's also already put in some work tracking flyballs in the outfield.
Sep 26, 2020
Launches fifth homer
Edman went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a second run scored during a 9-1 win over the Brewers in the second game of Friday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
After going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the matinee as the Cards got shut out, Edman rebounded with a strong effort in the nightcap. The super-utility player hasn't matched last season's breakout performance and is slashing .260/.329/.383 with five homers, two steals, 26 RBI and 29 runs over 53 games.
Sep 16, 2020
Running hot at plate
Edman, who went 2-for-4 with a run in a loss to the Brewers on Tuesday, is hitting .318 (7-for-22) with a home run, two RBI, five walks, a stolen base and four runs across his last six games entering Wednesday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The versatile 25-year-old continues to serve as a highly valuable defensive asset for manager Mike Shildt, but he's certainly picking up his contributions at the plate. Helping Edman to progressively increase his presence on the basepaths has been an improved walk rate, a figure that's up to 7.2 percent this year after sitting at 4.6 percent in his 2019 rookie campaign.
Sep 13, 2020
Takes seat Sunday
Edman is not in the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Sep 10, 2020
Goes yard in nightcap
Edman went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run during a 6-3 loss to the Tigers in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
His fifth-inning shot off Tyler Alexander gave the Cards a 3-0 lead before the bullpen fell apart, although Edman was also caught stealing for the third time in four attempts this year -- a far cry from his 15-for-16 performance on the basepaths as a rookie. The 25-year-old is slashing .262/.326/.415 through 35 games with four homers and 19 RBI.
Sep 8, 2020
Swats third homer
Edman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run during a 7-3 loss to the Twins in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
He also found ways to be productive in the nightcap, going 0-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Edman's sixth-inning shot off Jose Berrios was his third homer of the year, but two of them have come in the last three days as he tries to re-discover last season's form in time for the Cards' stretch run.
Sep 6, 2020
Opens scoring with solo shot
Edman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Edman's only hit came in his first at-bat, when he took Cubs starter Jon Lester deep. In the third inning, Edman reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Paul Goldschmidt homer. Sep 1, 2020
Enters September running hot
Edman, who went 2-for-5 with a double and a run in a win over the Reds on Monday, hit .344 (11-for-32) with two doubles, three RBI, three walks, a stolen base and four runs over the final eight games of August.
ANALYSIS
The versatile 25-year-old has pulled his season line out of the ditch with his current hot streak, as he's quickly boosted his average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage by 47, 47 and 25 points, respectively, in that stretch. Edman's current .261/.337/.364 slash line is beginning to progressively approximate the impressive .304/.350/.500 figures he generated during his 2019 rookie campaign, with a reduction in strikeout rate during that eight-game sample (16.7 percent, down from 19.4 percent) helping his cause.
Aug 28, 2020
Day off Friday
Edman is out of the lineup Friday against the Indians, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old started both games of Thursday's twin bill and went 3-for-7 with a walk, and he'll take a seat for Friday's contest. Edman is 12-for-34 with two doubles, five runs, seven RBI and a stolen base in his past 10 games. Matt Carpenter will shift to third base while Brad Miller serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 28, 2020
Stays busy in twin bill
Edman went a combined 3-for-7 with a walk over a pair of seven-inning doubleheader games against the Pirates on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
All three of the versatile Edman's hits were singles, but they served to extend his hitting streak to six games by day's end. The 25-year-old hasn't hit a home run since July 28 and only has a pair of extra-base hits (two doubles) in August, but he's now slashing an impressive .353/.436/.412 across 39 plate appearances over his last 10 games, raising his batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage by 82, 89 and 43 points, respectively.
Aug 26, 2020
Another productive night
Edman went 1-for-4 with a two-run ground-rule double, a walk and a run in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Edman erased an early 2-0 deficit for the Cardinals with his third-inning two-bagger, giving him five RBI over his last three games. The 25-year-old's .234/.319/.359 slash still has plenty of room for improvement, but Edman's .348 average over his last seven contests have certainly started his climb back to offensive respectability.
Aug 25, 2020
Fills up box score in win
Edman went 2-for-4 with two singles, an RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Edman shifted to second base with Kolten Wong getting the night off Monday. He reached base three times, increasing his on-base percentage to .313 on the campaign. Expect Edman to receive most of his playing time at third base going forward, with Wong likely returning to the lineup Tuesday.
Aug 23, 2020
Not starting Sunday
Edman is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old operated as the Cardinals' fill-in shortstop over the last couple weeks in place of Paul DeJong, but DeJong makes his return from the COVID-19 injured list Sunday. Edman began the season as the everyday starter at third base and could return to that role with the team nearing full strength.
Aug 19, 2020
Sits after productive Game 1
Edman went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, but he's out of the lineup for Game 2, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ANALYSIS
Edman started the past seven games at shortstop with Paul DeJong (illness) on the injured list, but he'll receive the night off after a strong performance in the matinee. Brad Miller will take over at shortstop for the Cardinals, while Max Schrock starts at third base.
Aug 5, 2020
Likely shifting to shortstop
Edman, who's started at third base in all five of his games thus far this season, is expected to shift to shortstop in the wake of Paul DeJong's (illness) absence, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
The key takeaway from a fantasy standpoint is that Edman will naturally continue in an everyday role as he looks to build on an interesting start to the season at the plate. While the 25-year-old is hitting just .250 and has an on-base percentage of .286, he also boasts a .550 slugging percentage since three (one double, one triple, one home run) of his five hits have gone for extra bases.

Smacks first homer
Edman went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old took Trevor May deep in the eighth inning for his first homer of the season. Edman has gone 5-for-18 through the Cards' first four games with four RBI, and the early returns suggest his impressive rookie campaign last year was no fluke.

Drives in lone run
Edman went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Sunday' 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Edman gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead with his RBI single in the third inning but it was the only run his team could manage in the contest. The 25-year-old utilityman has collected a hit in each of his team's first three games this season.

Timely hitting to close out win
Edman went 1-for-5 with a two-run triple in a win over the Pirates on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
As expected leading into the season, the 25-year-old Edman appears to have an everyday role at third base with the implementation of the universal designated hitter affording Matt Carpenter the opportunity to slide into that role. Edman has only two hits in his first 10 at-bats, but Saturday's three-bagger in the eighth inning brought home Harrison Bader and Kolten Wong to close out the scoring. Edman legged out an impressive seven triples in his first big-league season in 2019, and his above-average speed could well lead to superior production in that category relative to the 60-game sample.

Everyday role potentially awaits
Edman could potentially find himself in an everyday role at third base during the truncated 2020 regular season if manager Mike Shildt opts to make Matt Carpenter his primary designated hitter, Anne Rogers of MLB.com explains.
ANALYSIS
Edman has the luxury of sufficient defensive versatility to fill in at a number of spots, but the universal implementation of the DH for the 2020 campaign could result in him manning the hot corner regularly. Rogers explains Carpenter's extensive body of work as an accomplished hitter make him a natural to be the primary candidate for the role, which in turn would render Edman as the odds-on favorite to handle third-base duties. Not only does the 25-year-old's defensive proficiency ensure there wouldn't be much, if any, defensive drop-off from Carpenter should Edman man third, but his ascension to the top job would also open up more playing time in the outfield for several promising young players.

Has attended Busch workouts
Edman has been among the players that have attended small informal workouts at Busch Stadium in recent weeks, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite a rash of positive COVID-19 cases in some other camps, the Cardinals have apparently been able to hold their small gatherings of players without incident thus far. Edman has joined the likes of Harrison Bader, Paul DeJong, Kolten Wong and Adam Wainwright for the heavily regimented sessions, which have been limited to four players maximum and have included temperature checks, health surveys and strict social distancing.

Working out consistently
Edman has been in the St. Louis area for some time and consistently fielding groundballs as part of his regular workouts, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Given his location, Edman projects to be one of the players present at Busch Stadium for the small group workouts teams will be allowed to conduct beginning next week. In addition to the aforementioned baseball activities Edman has been participating in, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports the 25-year-old has also been utilizing a Rapsodo Hitting 2.0 unit, a device that allows players to track critical data such as exit velocity, launch angle and spin axis when taking swings. Edman's diligent work comes in anticipation of a robust role during a 2020 campaign that should see him log time at multiple positions for a second straight season.

Sees plenty of action in spring
Edman hit .237 (9-for-38) with a double, a home run, six RBI, two walks and eight runs across 12 Grapefruit League games before spring training was suspended.
ANALYSIS
The versatile 24-year-old is set for plenty of playing time at various positions whenever the 2020 season does kick off, and he received plenty of opportunities to tune up before play was paused. Edman proved to be a legitimate multi-category fantasy asset during his first taste of the big leagues in 2019 by displaying above-average pop (35 extra-base hits) and speed (15 stolen bases in 16 attempts) while also boasting a modest strikeout rate (17.5 percent). Edman could see time at up to five different positions again in the coming campaign, with his role potentially set to be further fleshed out in any ramp-up period to the regular season.

Slated for ample playing time
Edman's likelihood of receiving ample playing time in both the infield and outfield increased with the release of Yairo Munoz on March 7, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming into spring training, Edman was already set to see plenty of action in 2020 after having logged time at second base, third base, shortstop and center field last season. The 24-year-old was highly productive at the plate as well with a .304/.350/.500 line across 92 games, and he was hitting .237 (9-for-38) with a double, a home run, six RBI, two walks, one stolen base and eight runs across 12 Grapefruit League games before spring training was paused.

Prepping for super-utility role
Edman is expected to see action at as many as six different positions in spring training, as the Cardinals envision him filling a super-utility role in 2020, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
St. Louis is eager to open up everyday playing time for Edman after he posted a team-best .850 OPS last season following his promotion from Triple-A Memphis in early June. After playing 55 games at third base and 29 games at second base as a rookie, Edman should already carry dual-position eligibility in most fantasy leagues entering 2020, and the Cardinals could work him into the mix at all three outfield spots as necessary. Any additional eligibility he gains as the season rolls along will only provide another boost to the ascending value of Edman, who could make a run at a 20-20 season if he gets 600-plus plate appearances.
