Turner will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets.

The Phillies will be the fourth seed in the National League regardless of what happens over the weekend, so it's unlikely that they ask many of their star players to play twice in one day. Turner owns a 1.002 OPS with 16 homers since the start of August, entering the playoffs on a high note despite a rough start to his time in Philadelphia. Turner has been a hit machine lately, recording multi-hit efforts in 12 of his last 15 games, including four consecutive contests. In 34 games since Aug. 4, the five-tool shortstop has posted an ovation-worthy slash line of .388/.430/.820 with an incredible 16 home runs, 10 doubles, one triple, 41 RBI, 34 runs and six steals across 151 plate appearances. Turner's batting average has risen from a paltry .236 to a respectable .272 during that same time frame.

Turner had missed the past two games on paternity leave, but celebrated with a solo homer in his first at-bat to kick off the scoring. Turner's bat has come alive in August, and over the last 14 games he's slashing .370/.414/.704 with six doubles, four homers, one steal, nine runs and 12 RBI.

A big finish to 2023 would likely be enough to re-establish him as a first-round pick at 2024 draft tables.

In what's been a disappointing first season in Philadelphia, Turner might have had his finest moment in a Phillies uniform Saturday. He contributed two extra-base hits in the Phillies' 9-6 win, including a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning that snapped a 21-game stretch without a long ball. Despite Turner's solid weekend, the Phillies aren't yet ready to move him up from the bottom-third of the lineup. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's series opener with the Nationals.

Turner is hitting eighth Thursday against the Marlins.

He hit seventh in the lineup July 29, and had hit sixth in the lineup the past three games, but this represents a new low for Turner. The big-ticket free agent signee is slashing .238/.303/.369 with five home runs and 14 steals in 52 games since June 1.

Turner has now batted fifth or lower in four consecutive games while the Phillies have since tried out Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm in the No. 2 spot the shortstop has occupied for most of the season. Even though Turner has showed modest signs of a turnaround by reaching base five times in the last three games, his on-base percentage is still below .300 for the season and sits at .278 since the All-Star break. Needless to say, Turner has been a major disappointment for fantasy managers who invested a top-three pick into him on draft day after he signed an 11-year, $300 million deal with Philadelphia in December.

Turner is hitless in the first two games of the series and also got ejected from Monday's contest for arguing balls and strikes, so it seems like a good time to give him a breather. Edmundo Sosa will handle shortstop.

It was only Turner's second home run since June 5 and it marked his first RBI so far this month. He's now recorded multiple hits in three of his last six games.

Turner has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with four steals and seven RBI during his active six-game hitting streak. The shortstop was a bit hesitant on the basepaths earlier in the year, but he's now amassed 10 steals through 25 games in June. For the season, he's slashing just .249/.304/.386 with 17 thefts, eight home runs, 29 RBI, 46 runs scored, 17 doubles and two triples over 79 contests.

He seems to be picking things up after a sluggish first couple of months and is now slashing .249/.297/.394 for the year.

Turner ripped a pair of solo shots of Tigers starter Joey Wentz. It's been a rough start for Turner in Philadelphia but his first multi-homer game Monday could be a sign of an impending breakout. He snapped an ugly 3-for-28 (.107) skid over his previous seven games. The 29-year-old is now slashing .243/.286/.398 with 23 extra-base hits and 32 runs scored through 59 games.

Turner is batting fifth for the Phillies in Friday's game against the Nationals, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

It's the first time all season that we've seen Turner hit lower than second. He is entering play Friday sitting on a season-low .648 OPS following a 4-for-29 stretch at the dish. How long this new Phillies lineup -- which features Kyle Schwarber in the leadoff spot -- sticks remains to be seen, but the move isn't great news for Turner's immediate fantasy value.

Turner smacked a two-run, two-out homer off Jose Ruiz to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth before the Phillies would win it in extras. It's Turner's fifth home run of the season and his first since May 6. The clutch hit may be what Turner needed to get his season going -- he's still slashing just .250/.295/.392 with 25 runs scored, 13 RBI and six stolen bases through his first 217 plate appearances with the Phillies.

Turner will be on the bench Saturday against the Cubs.

The start to Turner's first season in Philadelphia hasn't gone as he or the team would have hoped, but Saturday's off day (the first of the season for Turner) looks like nothing more than a routine one. After slashing .302/.355/.487 across his first eight seasons, he's hitting just .257/.302/.390 this year, and his five steals are a disappointing total given the explosion of stolen bases across the league. He's also developed an uncharacteristic strikeout problem, with 18 strikeouts in his last 12 games raising his season strikeout rate to 26.6 percent. The Phillies will hope the day off allows him to reset and get back to his old self.

Turner's 11-game hitting streak came to an end, but he still managed to be productive. The steal was his first since April 19 versus the White Sox, which was also the last time he scored multiple runs in the same game. He's slashed .262/.304/.392 with three homers, eight RBI, 18 runs scored and four stolen bases over 138 plate appearances, but he's also striking out at a 24.6 percent rate. He's shown signs of turning things around by hitting safely in each of the last four games.

Turner hit a grand slam to help Team USA to an 11-9 win Saturday over Team Venezuela in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.

With Team USA trailing 9-7, Turner crushed a Silvino Bracho offering over the left-field fence to give USA the lead and ultimately the victory. The star shortstop has his second homer of the tournament, and he's slashing .286/.375/.714 in the WBC thus far. Turner and Team USA will take on Cuba on Sunday in the semifinals.

Turner is likely to open the season as the Phillies' leadoff hitter, manager Rob Thomson said Thursday, per John Foley of 2008Philz.com.

Thomson indicated that things could change when Bryce Harper (elbow) returns around midseason, but initially Turner appears pegged for the top of the batting order. It will likely be a hit to Turner's RBI total after he drove in 100 runs for the first time in 2022 while batting primarily second and third for the Dodgers. However, he'll score a ton of runs from the leadoff spot and might also do some more running.

The injury appears to be very minor, and it's unlikely that it will cause Turner to miss time going forward, though it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get a rest day at some point since he's started 13 games over the past 11 days.

The 28-year-old is expected to serve as the Dodgers' primary second baseman now that he's back to full health, while Corey Seager will continue to play at shortstop.

Turner (COVID-19) is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels, but he posted a video on his Instagram account signifying that he has arrived at Dodger Stadium, Blake Harris of True Blue LA reports.

The team said he would probably make his Dodgers debut Friday or Saturday, and while he is not in Friday's lineup, it seems likely he will play during this weekend's series. He could even be available off the bench Friday, but he has not yet been officially activated.

Assuming Turner is testing negative by the time 10 days are up and he isn't experiencing any side effects from the virus, a weekend debut for the Dodgers would seem realistic. After making all 96 of his starts with the Nationals at shortstop this season, Turner is expected to settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman with Corey Seager already in the fold at shortstop.

If he's one of the latter, he could still be cleared to play in time for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, but assuming Turner is out of the lineup, Hernan Perez appears to be the likely candidate to get the start at shortstop.

If Turner does find a new permanent home in the No. 3 spot, hitting behind Juan Soto rather than the bottom of the order should give him a massive boost in RBI opportunities, but it's not yet clear how it might impact his stolen-base total.

The Nationals don't have an ideal option on the roster who can come close to providing Turner's speed and on-base skills versus right-handed pitching, but Martinez floated the possibility of Victor Robles replacing Turner as the leadoff man versus lefties. Expect Martinez to experiment with his lineups throughout Grapefruit League play before determining whether Turner will slot in the order once Opening Day arrives.

Prorated to a standard 162-game season, that translates to 32.4 homers and steals, which would be a full-season low in the latter category for Turner but which would smash his previous career best of 19 homers.

The Nats' leadoff hitter has stumbled out of the gate, as he went 0-for-2 in Thursday's opener as well. It's not surprising that some players are a little further behind the curve than others given the nature of this season, but Turner should find a groove eventually. Whether that's quick enough to satisfy those with fantasy shares in him during an abbreviated 60-game schedule in another question.

Manager Dave Martinez suggested Wednesday that Turner will likely remain the Nationals' leadoff man to begin the season, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Martinez entertained the idea of moving Victor Robles into the table-setting role and dropping Turner down to the three hole earlier in the spring, but the skipper is seemingly less inclined to go in that direction with his lineup. Specifically, Martinez mentioned that he likes having the tandem of Turner and Adam Eaton batting back-to-back, and inserting Robles ahead of them would mean that Juan Soto -- the club's best all-around hitter -- would lose out on around 50 at-bats over the course of the season as a cleanup bat. Batting out of the leadoff spot is probably a best-case scenario for Turner for fantasy purposes, as he'll likely have free reign on the basepaths more frequently than he would as a No. 3 hitter.

Per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, Turner was taking reps at shortstop Tuesday in the Nats' first infield workout of the spring, which indicates he's made a full recovery from November surgery to repair a fractured index finger.
