Nabs two bags in win
Turner went 2-for-3 with one walk and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Marlins in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series.
ANALYSIS
Turner entered the contest with 30 stolen bases across 155 games in the regular season and Tuesday marked his sixth multi-steal game of the year. Back in lineup for Game 1
Turner (elbow) is back in the lineup for Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series on Tuesday versus the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Turner will start at shortstop and bat second against the Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. He sat out of Sunday's regular-season finale after taking a pitch off his left elbow Saturday, but there was never much concern about his readiness for Philly's best-of-three series versus Miami.
Sep 30, 2023
Will sit Sunday
Turner (elbow) will be held out of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Rob Thomson stated after the second half of Saturday's twin bill that Turner is fine, but he'll miss Sunday's matchup. He'll presumably be good to go for the Wild Card Series, though confirmation on his availability likely won't come until early next week.
Sep 30, 2023
Pulled after HBP
Turner was removed from Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets due to a left elbow contusion, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner was drilled by a pitch in the top of the seventh inning, though he was initially able to remain in the contest to run the bases. The early diagnosis brings good news, but the Phillies will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the star shortstop with the playoffs starting early next week. He'll be considered day-to-day and could be held out of the regular-season finale to help get him as healthy as possible for the postseason.
Sep 30, 2023
Resting for afternoon game
Turner will sit for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies will be the fourth seed in the National League regardless of what happens over the weekend, so it's unlikely that they ask many of their star players to play twice in one day. Turner owns a 1.002 OPS with 16 homers since the start of August, entering the playoffs on a high note despite a rough start to his time in Philadelphia. Edmundo Sosa will take over at shortstop in his absence.
Sep 27, 2023
Steps out of lineup
Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies punched their ticket to the playoffs with Tuesday's win over the Pirates, so Turner will receive Wednesday off after making 18 straight starts. The 30-year-old delivered an ugly first half but has a .308/.361/.621 slash line since the start of August to improve his season-long OPS to .770
Sep 13, 2023
Stays red hot
Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old continued his torrid gameplay Tuesday, swiping his 27th base and launching his 26th homer - a game-tying solo shot in the ninth inning off Atlanta's closer, Raisel Iglesias. Turner has been a hit machine lately, recording multi-hit efforts in 12 of his last 15 games, including four consecutive contests. In 34 games since Aug. 4, the five-tool shortstop has posted an ovation-worthy slash line of .388/.430/.820 with an incredible 16 home runs, 10 doubles, one triple, 41 RBI, 34 runs and six steals across 151 plate appearances. Turner's batting average has risen from a paltry .236 to a respectable .272 during that same time frame.
Sep 9, 2023
Homers, steals base in return
Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, walk, two runs scored and one steal in Friday's 3-2 loss to Miami.
ANALYSIS
Turner had missed the past two games on paternity leave, but celebrated with a solo homer in his first at-bat to kick off the scoring. He later added a walk, a single, a stolen base and scored both Phillies' runs to complete an all-around effort in their loss. Turner is now slashing .265/.316/.458 with a career-high 23 homers, 68 RBI, 88 runs, 30 doubles, five triples and 26 steals in his inaugural season with the Phillies.
Sep 8, 2023
Activated from paternity leave
Turner was activated from the paternity leave list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Turner was reinstated on the Phillies' off day and will be re-inserted into the lineup ahead of their weekend series at home against the Marlins. The star shortstop comes into action Friday on quite a heater, having homered seven times over his last seven games.
Sep 5, 2023
Goes on paternity leave
Turner was placed on the paternity list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Turner will likely miss the final two games of the Phillies' three-game set in San Diego as he welcomes a new addition to his growing family. He went 2-for-6 with a homer and two RBI in Monday's series opener.
Sep 5, 2023
Extends hitting streak to 15 games
Turner went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run and an additional run in Monday's 9-7 victory versus the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Turner put the Phillies ahead 6-1 with his two-run shot in the second inning. He had already singled at that point, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Turner has nine multi-hit efforts during the streak and is slashing .358/.380/.881 with 10 homers, 23 RBI, 19 runs and three stolen bases over the impressive stretch.
Sep 3, 2023
Big night in Saturday's loss
Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a second run scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop extended his hitting streak to 13 games with yet another impressive effort, and over that stretch Turner is slashing .357/.383/.929 with nine of his 21 homers and three of his 25 steals on the season. The 30-year-old has now posted his third straight 20-25 season, and he has yet to be caught stealing in 2023 -- in fact, he's nabbed 30 straight bags dating back to last September. Turner's career 85.9 percent success rate on the basepaths is the second-highest of all time among players with more than 200 attempts, behind only Carlos Beltran's 86.4 percent mark.
Aug 30, 2023
Homers again
Turner went 2-for-5 with a triple, home run, and three total RBI in Tuesday's 12-7 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Turner's current hit streak has now reached double digits after he notched a two-run triple and a solo homer Tuesday. In those 10 games, Turner has posted a slash line of .349/.370/.860 with six home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs and a stolen base across 46 plate appearances.
Aug 29, 2023
Goes deep twice in victory
Turner went 2-for-3 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's victory over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old shortstop took Lucas Giolito deep twice Monday, sending a first-inning changeup out to left center for a solo shot and later adding a two-run homer to give Philadelphia a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Turner's hitting streak now spans nine games, during which he has batted .342 (13-for-38) with five home runs, two doubles, 10 RBI, 11 runs, one steal, and a gaudy 1.155 OPS. Turner's season-long batting average has risen from .248 to .255 in that same timeframe, still a far cry from his .295 career mark.
Aug 24, 2023
Stays hot with 15th homer
Turner went 1-for-5 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Turner went back-to-back with Kyle Schwarber against Alex Cobb in the sixth inning, cutting the Phillies' deficit to 4-2. Turner's now hit safely in five straight games with three long balls in that span. Over his last 18 contests, the 30-year-old Turner's gone 25-for-73 (.342) with a 1.015 OPS, boosting his slash line to .250/.303/.405 on the season with 15 homers, 72 runs scored, 49 RBI and 22 stolen bases across 558 plate appearances.
Aug 20, 2023
Homers twice against former club
Turner went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 12-3 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop didn't just go yard twice against the team he made his big-league debut with in 2015, Turner went yard twice in the same inning against the same pitcher, bookending the Phillies' eight-run eruption in the eighth inning with blasts to left field off Cory Abbott. Turner's bat has come alive in August, and over the last 14 games he's slashing .370/.414/.704 with six doubles, four homers, one steal, nine runs and 12 RBI.
Aug 13, 2023
Stays hot Saturday
Turner went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies' offensive malaise Saturday didn't slow down Turner's resurgence. The shortstop has hit safely in nine straight games, collecting multiple hits in five of them and batting .457 (16-for-35) over that stretch with six doubles, two homers, one steal, six runs and 10 RBI. While his numbers on the season remain well below expectations, Turner appears to have flipped the switch and could be poised for a stretch run worthy of a player who signed a $300 million contract over the winter.
Aug 11, 2023
Goes yard Thursday
Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 6-2 victory over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old shortstop belted a two-run homer off Andres Machado in the sixth inning, giving Philadelphia a 2-1 lead. Turner has now hit safely in seven consecutive contests, batting .370 (10-for-27) with two home runs, eight RBI and a steal during that span.
Aug 9, 2023
Showing signs of life
Turner went 3-for-7 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Facing his former club, Turner collected two-baggers in each end of the twin bill, extending his extra-base hit streak to four games. The shortstop has been mired in nearly a season-long slump to kick off the 11-year, $300 million contract he signed with Philadelphia in the offseason, but despite a career-worst .677 OPS he still has 11 homers, 22 steals (without a caught stealing), 40 RBI and 63 runs through 112 games. A big finish to 2023 would likely be enough to re-establish him as a first-round pick at 2024 draft tables.
Aug 7, 2023
Delivers three XBH over weekend
Turner went 4-for-12 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI during the Phillies' three-game series with the Royals over the weekend.
ANALYSIS
In what's been a disappointing first season in Philadelphia, Turner might have had his finest moment in a Phillies uniform Saturday. He contributed two extra-base hits in the Phillies' 9-6 win, including a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning that snapped a 21-game stretch without a long ball. Despite Turner's solid weekend, the Phillies aren't yet ready to move him up from the bottom-third of the lineup. He'll start at shortstop and bat seventh in Monday's series opener with the Nationals.
Aug 3, 2023
Hitting eighth Thursday
Turner is hitting eighth Thursday against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
He hit seventh in the lineup July 29, and had hit sixth in the lineup the past three games, but this represents a new low for Turner. The big-ticket free agent signee is slashing .238/.303/.369 with five home runs and 14 steals in 52 games since June 1.
Aug 1, 2023
Sinks in batting order
Turner will bat seventh and start at shortstop in Tuesday's game against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Turner has now batted fifth or lower in four consecutive games while the Phillies have since tried out Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm in the No. 2 spot the shortstop has occupied for most of the season. Even though Turner has showed modest signs of a turnaround by reaching base five times in the last three games, his on-base percentage is still below .300 for the season and sits at .278 since the All-Star break. Needless to say, Turner has been a major disappointment for fantasy managers who invested a top-three pick into him on draft day after he signed an 11-year, $300 million deal with Philadelphia in December.
Jul 26, 2023
Getting day off Wednesday
Turner is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner is hitless in the first two games of the series and also got ejected from Monday's contest for arguing balls and strikes, so it seems like a good time to give him a breather. Edmundo Sosa will handle shortstop.
Jul 16, 2023
Big day in twin bill
Turner went 4-for-8 with two walks, a double, two RBI and two stolen bases across both games of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Padres.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop posted nearly identical lines in each game of the twin bill, but he swiped both his bags in the matinee before rapping out his 19th double of the season in the nightcap. Turner has picked up the pace since the beginning of June, slashing .270/.335/.414 over his last 37 games with five of his 10 homers and 14 of his 21 steals on the season, and he still has yet to be caught stealing in 2023.
Jul 6, 2023
Ties game with solo homer
Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's victory over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Turner reached base on a single in his second trip to the plate but was quickly thrown out at second on a double-play ball in the following at-bat. However, he came right back in the top of the fifth and launched a hanging slider from Yonny Chirinos directly into the right side of foul pole in left field to open the frame, tying the game at 4-4. It was only Turner's second home run since June 5 and it marked his first RBI so far this month. He's now recorded multiple hits in three of his last six games.
Jun 29, 2023
Two steals in Thursday's win
Turner went 2-for-4 with a double, two stolen bases and a run scored in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Turner has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with four steals and seven RBI during his active six-game hitting streak. The shortstop was a bit hesitant on the basepaths earlier in the year, but he's now amassed 10 steals through 25 games in June. For the season, he's slashing just .249/.304/.386 with 17 thefts, eight home runs, 29 RBI, 46 runs scored, 17 doubles and two triples over 79 contests.
Jun 25, 2023
Does it all in win
Turner went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, two additional RBI, one additional run scored and two steals in Sunday's victory over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Turner hit a home run and stole a base in the same game for just the second time this season. The shortstop now has eight homers, 28 RBI, 15 steals and 44 runs scored across 76 games (340 plate appearances), but he's still slashing just .248/.305/.387, which would all be his lowest marks since his rookie campaign in 2015 when he played in only 27 games.
Jun 14, 2023
Active on basepaths in win
Turner went 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and steals in Tuesday's 15-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Turner notched his fourth multi-hit effort in June and is now slashing .313/.377/.500 with two homers, five RBI, 12 runs, four steals and a 5:10 BB:K over 53 plate appearances since June 1. He already has as many steals in 12 games this month as he had in April and one more than he had in May. He seems to be picking things up after a sluggish first couple of months and is now slashing .249/.297/.394 for the year.
Jun 11, 2023
Busy day in win
Turner went 3-for-5 with one double, three runs scored and one steal in Sunday's victory over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Turner scored all three times he reached base and stole his ninth base of the season. The shortstop slashed just .208/.257/.368 across 25 May contests, but he's off to a hot start in June, totaling 13 hits (five for extra-bases), five RBI, nine runs and two steals over 10 games.
Jun 5, 2023
Belts two homers
Turner went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Turner ripped a pair of solo shots of Tigers starter Joey Wentz. It's been a rough start for Turner in Philadelphia but his first multi-homer game Monday could be a sign of an impending breakout. He snapped an ugly 3-for-28 (.107) skid over his previous seven games. The 29-year-old is now slashing .243/.286/.398 with 23 extra-base hits and 32 runs scored through 59 games.
Jun 2, 2023
Dropped down to five spot
Turner is batting fifth for the Phillies in Friday's game against the Nationals, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the first time all season that we've seen Turner hit lower than second. He is entering play Friday sitting on a season-low .648 OPS following a 4-for-29 stretch at the dish. How long this new Phillies lineup -- which features Kyle Schwarber in the leadoff spot -- sticks remains to be seen, but the move isn't great news for Turner's immediate fantasy value.
Jun 2, 2023
Steals eighth bag
Turner went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a steal in Thursday's loss against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Turner is now 8-for-8 on stolen base attempts this season. He's continued to struggle at the plate, however, going 5-for-38 over his last nine games. It's been a tough first year in Philly for the All-Star shortstop. Turner's now slashing just .236/.279/.369 with five homers, 28 runs scored and 15 RBI.
May 28, 2023
Nabs seventh steal
Turner went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 2-1 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
He drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a fifth-inning two-bagger, and also stole his seventh base of the year in the third. Turner hasn't changed his habits on the basepaths in 2023 despite the new steal-friendly rules, but he has yet to be caught stealing this season and is on pace for his seventh career campaign with 20 or more SB.
May 24, 2023
Plays hero Wednesday
Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Turner smacked a two-run, two-out homer off Jose Ruiz to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth before the Phillies would win it in extras. It's Turner's fifth home run of the season and his first since May 6. The clutch hit may be what Turner needed to get his season going -- he's still slashing just .250/.295/.392 with 25 runs scored, 13 RBI and six stolen bases through his first 217 plate appearances with the Phillies.
May 20, 2023
Sits for first time
Turner will be on the bench Saturday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
The start to Turner's first season in Philadelphia hasn't gone as he or the team would have hoped, but Saturday's off day (the first of the season for Turner) looks like nothing more than a routine one. After slashing .302/.355/.487 across his first eight seasons, he's hitting just .257/.302/.390 this year, and his five steals are a disappointing total given the explosion of stolen bases across the league. He's also developed an uncharacteristic strikeout problem, with 18 strikeouts in his last 12 games raising his season strikeout rate to 26.6 percent. The Phillies will hope the day off allows him to reset and get back to his old self.
May 14, 2023
Swipes bag in win
Turner went 0-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Turner's 11-game hitting streak came to an end, but he still managed to be productive. The steal was his first since April 19 versus the White Sox, which was also the last time he scored multiple runs in the same game. The shortstop is slashing .256/.307/.402 with four home runs, 10 RBI, five steals and 24 runs scored through 39 contests.
May 7, 2023
Goes deep in loss
Turner went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Saturday in a loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Turner accounted for the final run of the contest with a solo shot to left field in the seventh inning. He extended his hitting streak to seven games, though this was the first time during the streak that he's collected multiple hits. Turner may not be entirely living up to the 11-year, $300 million contract he signed in the offseason just yet, but he's been fine with a .262/.301/.414 slash line, four homers, nine RBI, 20 runs and four stolen bases though 153 plate appearances.
May 3, 2023
Homers versus old team
Turner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 13-1 loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies mustered only two hits Tuesday, with Turner's blast off Julio Urias accounting for the visitors' lone run. After hitting .298 with an .809 OPS with the Dodgers last year, Turner's Phillies career is off to a slower start. He's slashed .262/.304/.392 with three homers, eight RBI, 18 runs scored and four stolen bases over 138 plate appearances, but he's also striking out at a 24.6 percent rate. He's shown signs of turning things around by hitting safely in each of the last four games.
Apr 23, 2023
Hits second homer of season
Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Turner opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first, marking his second long ball of the season. Through 23 games, he has eight extra-base hits, seven RBI, 16 runs scored and four stolen bases.
Apr 19, 2023
Busy offense day in win
Turner went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double, a steal and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Turner led off the game with a solo home run, his first of the season. He added a single in the third and proceed to steal second before coming around to score on a Nick Castellanos RBI single. In the fourth, the shortstop extended Philadelphia's lead to 5-2 with an RBI double. Through 19 games, Turner has six extra-base hits, six RBI and four steals.
Apr 11, 2023
Returns to leadoff spot
Turner is back in the leadoff spot Tuesday versus the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Bryson Stott took a turn at leadoff Monday, with Turner hitting second, but the Phillies will return to their typical top-of-the-order setup Tuesday against the Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Stott is batting eighth.
Apr 5, 2023
Swipes first bag of season
Turner went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
After singling to left field in the seventh inning, Turner swiped his first bag of the year in close fashion -- the throw from Kyle Higashioka beat him, but his slide jostled the ball out of Anthony Volpe's glove. Turner has had a blistering start to the season at the plate, batting .391 (9-for-23) through five games with a double and two triples, and after stealing 27 bases on 30 attempts in 2022, MLB's rule changes to boost the running game could allow the 29-year-old shortstop to challenge his career high of 46 steals, set back in 2017 with the Nationals.
Apr 3, 2023
Solid start to 2023
Turner went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Though he didn't hit any home runs or steal any bases in the Phillies' season-opening series versus the Rangers, Turner still looks to be dialed in at the dish on the heels of his standout performance during the World Baseball Classic earlier this spring. He recorded five hits over the three games in Texas, including a pair of triples.
Mar 21, 2023
Homers again in loss to Japan
Turner hit a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to Japan in the World Baseball classic final.
ANALYSIS
Turner gave USA a 1-0 lead with a blast over the left-field wall. The shortstop homered five times in the tournament, and was arguably the best player in the loaded USA lineup. It just wasn't enough for the United States to take home the title. Turner now returns to camp for the Phillies to get ready for his first season as a member of the Philadelphia roster.
Mar 18, 2023
Grand slam helps USA top Venezuela
Turner hit a grand slam to help Team USA to an 11-9 win Saturday over Team Venezuela in the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic.
ANALYSIS
With Team USA trailing 9-7, Turner crushed a Silvino Bracho offering over the left-field fence to give USA the lead and ultimately the victory. The star shortstop has his second homer of the tournament, and he's slashing .286/.375/.714 in the WBC thus far. Turner and Team USA will take on Cuba on Sunday in the semifinals.
Feb 17, 2023
Expected to bat leadoff
Turner is likely to open the season as the Phillies' leadoff hitter, manager Rob Thomson said Thursday, per John Foley of 2008Philz.com.
ANALYSIS
Thomson indicated that things could change when Bryce Harper (elbow) returns around midseason, but initially Turner appears pegged for the top of the batting order. It will likely be a hit to Turner's RBI total after he drove in 100 runs for the first time in 2022 while batting primarily second and third for the Dodgers. However, he'll score a ton of runs from the leadoff spot and might also do some more running.
Dec 5, 2022
Lands in Philadelphia
Turner agreed to an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Phillies on Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The former National and Dodger returns to the National League East after slashing .298/.343/.466 with 21 home runs, 100 RBI and 27 stolen bases last season. Turner, entering his age 30 season, has at least a few more years as an everyday shortstop and figures to hit either first or second in Philadelphia's lineup.
Oct 15, 2022
Cleared to play
Turner (finger) will bat second and play shortstop Saturday in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Turner jammed his right ring finger sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt in Game 3, though he was able to remain in the game. His X-rays were negative, and while it's possible the injury affects him in some fashion, the fact the he's cleared not just to hit but also to throw is seemingly a good sign.
Oct 15, 2022
X-rays negative
Turner suffered nothing worse than a jammed finger in Friday's NLDS Game 3 loss to the Padres, as his X-rays were negative, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner appeared visibly hurt after diving back into first base on an eighth-inning pickoff attempt, but he was able to get his fingers wrapped during a delay while the play was being removed and did not have to leave the game. It's possible the jammed right ring finger will affect his performance going forward, but he remains in line to start Saturday's Game 4 as long as he's able to grip a bat.
Oct 6, 2022
Drives in three runs in finale
Turner went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run Wednesday in a 6-1 victory versus Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Turner reached the 100 RBI mark for the first time in his career with a three-run homer in the fifth inning. The speedy shortstop was one of nine major-leaguers to go 20/20 this season, finishing with 21 long balls and 27 thefts. He slashed .298/.343/.466 and ranked second in the league in hits (194) behind teammate Freddie Freeman.
Oct 2, 2022
Adds steal, two runs in win
Turner went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a pair of runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Turner logged multiple hits for the third time in five games, and he's added a pair of steals in that span. The shortstop is now 27-for-30 in steal attempts this season, and he's swiped five bags since the start of September. He's slashing .299/.344/.467 with 20 home runs, 97 RBI and 100 runs scored through 156 contests this year.
Sep 30, 2022
Posts steal in win
Turner went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Turner and Freddie Freeman completed a double-steal in the sixth inning. The theft was Turner's first in 13 games and his 26th of the year. The shortstop is up to a .300/.345/.471 slash line while adding 20 home runs, 97 RBI, 98 runs scored, four triples and 39 doubles through 154 games this year.
Sep 28, 2022
Raps three hits Tuesday
Turner went 3-for-5 with a double and scored two runs in Tuesday's loss to San Diego.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers managed only three hits in the loss, and Turner was responsible for half of those. He also scored two of the team's three runs, including the game-tying tally on a passed ball in the top of the ninth. Slotted third in order
Turner will start at shortstop and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Twins, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers are off to 2-2 start to the season despite getting little production from its top three batters in the lineup in Turner (.444 OPS), Mookie Betts (.433) and Freddie Freeman (.681 OPS). The track record of all three stars suggests fantasy managers should eventually expect the trio to get dialed in at the dish, at which point the Dodgers' lineup should re-emerge as the juggernaut many predicted heading into the season. Expect Turner's involvement in the run game to also increase once his .222 on-base average veers closer to his career norm.

Fouls out in Dodgers debut
Turner entered Friday's loss to the Angels as a pinch hitter and fouled out in his only plate appearance.
ANALYSIS
The newly-acquired infielder was activated from the COVID-19 injured list earlier in the day but was held out of the starting lineup. He came on as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning, however, and lofted a long fly ball to left field that went foul. On the next pitch he saw, Turner popped out to the catcher to complete his first plate appearance with Los Angeles. He is expected to take over as the Dodgers' primary second baseman moving forward.
Aug 6, 2021
Activated by Dodgers
Turner was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Although Turner isn't starting Friday's game against the Angels, he's with the club at Dodger Stadium and could be available to make his team debut off the bench. Turner (COVID-19) is not in Friday's lineup against the Angels, but he posted a video on his Instagram account signifying that he has arrived at Dodger Stadium, Blake Harris of True Blue LA reports.
ANALYSIS
The team said he would probably make his Dodgers debut Friday or Saturday, and while he is not in Friday's lineup, it seems likely he will play during this weekend's series. He could even be available off the bench Friday, but he has not yet been officially activated.
Aug 2, 2021
Could debut this weekend
Manager Dave Roberts said he's hopeful Turner (illness) will be cleared to return from the COVID-19 injured list as soon as Friday or Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Before dealing Turner away to the Dodgers in a blockbuster trade, the Nationals placed him on the COVID-19 IL on July 29, two days after he tested positive for the virus. Turner will have to complete a 10-day quarantine before he's eligible to return from the IL, but assuming he went into isolation the day he tested positive, he may end up missing the minimum amount of time. Assuming Turner is testing negative by the time 10 days are up and he isn't experiencing any side effects from the virus, a weekend debut for the Dodgers would seem realistic. After making all 96 of his starts with the Nationals at shortstop this season, Turner is expected to settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman with Corey Seager already in the fold at shortstop.
Jul 29, 2021
Heading to Dodgers
Turner (COVID-19) is reportedly being traded from the Nationals to the Dodgers along with Max Scherzer in exchange for Keibert Ruiz, Josiah Gray, Gerardo Carrillo and Donovan Casey, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner has had a tremendous season, maintaining a .322/.369/.521 line across 420 plate appearances. Once he is eligible to return from the injured list, he'll add another explosive bat to the Dodgers' lineup. However, his fit with his new team will be interesting, as Corey Seager (hand) already occupies shortstop for the club. Though shortstop has been Turner's sole position since 2017, he had played second base and center field earlier in his career.
Jul 29, 2021
Hits COVID-19 injured list
Turner officially landed on the COVID-19 injured list Thursday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The move is an expected one, as Turner left Tuesday's game against the Phillies after being informed of a positive test for the virus. Given that he's a known positive and isn't merely absent due to contact tracing, he'll need more than just a day or two before he's cleared to return.
Jul 27, 2021
Tests positive for COVID-19
Turner was removed from Tuesday's game against the Phillies after testing positive for COVID-19, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS

The 27-year-old will be away from the team for the near future until he clears the health and safety protocols.
Jul 27, 2021

Stacks up runs
Turner concluded the Nationals' three-game series with the Padres with three hits in 10 at-bats and scored five runs while chipping in a stolen base.
ANALYSIS
After failing to score a run in the Nationals' final series of the first half against the Giants when the Washington bats went quiet, Turner and the rest of the lineup picked up the pace coming out of the All-Star break. With 17 home runs and 20 steals through 88 games, Turner looks well on his way to joining the Padres' Fernando Tatis in the 20-20 club. Turner remains in the lineup for Monday's series opener against Miami, batting second behind newly installed leadoff man Alcides Escobar.

The homers give the slugging shortstop 17 on the season -- already approaching his career high of 19 in both 2018 and 2019 -- and his 19 steals are third in all of baseball.
Jul 6, 2021

Turner is slashing an outstanding .321/.370/.522 with 15 homers, 39 RBI, 51 runs scored, 18 steals and a 23:67 BB:K over 346 plate appearances and was just named to his first-ever All-Star game ahead of Monday's game.
Jul 5, 2021
Back in action Monday
Turner (finger) is starting at shortstop and batting second Monday against the Padres, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS

Manager Dave Martinez said he expects Turner (finger) to be in the lineup by "the beginning or middle of the week," Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner hasn't seen the field since suffering the jammed finger on his left hand Wednesday, but the Nationals are confident a trip to the injured list isn't necessary. Alcides Escobar should continue to see time at shortstop until Turner is cleared to rejoin the lineup. The Nationals head to San Diego on Monday to begin a four-game series.

Jul 3, 2021
Saturday status uncertain
Turner (finger) will take some pregame swings to determine if he can play Saturday against the Dodgers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There's been no further update on the condition of Turner's finger, which still had swelling Friday after he jammed it Wednesday afternoon. If Turner can't go, Humberto Arteaga may start at shortstop again. It's also possible that Alcides Escobar, whom the Nationals traded for Friday, could be called up to start.
Jul 2, 2021
Sitting again Friday
Turner (finger) is not in the lineup Friday versus the Dodgers, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ANALYSIS

Turner couldn't get the swelling in his finger to go down and may miss a few games, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

ANALYSIS
Turner's sixth-inning triple finished off his third career cycle, but the shortstop's historic night wound up being partially spoiled by the finger issue. Manager Davey Martinez said that Turner jammed his left middle finger "pretty good," and that he's considered day-to-day for the time being.

Turner went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Friday's 17-2 win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Turner set Washington off to a quick start with a leadoff home run off Riley Smith. He went on to slug a two-run double in the fifth inning before being pulled in the sixth with Washington staked to an 11-run lead. Turner is among baseball's top offensive performers again this season, slashing .312/.351/.551 with nine homers, 18 RBI and seven stolen bases.
May 12, 2021
Swats eighth homer
Turner went 3-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop did his job as the leadoff hitter but got little help from the rest of the Nats' lineup. Turner has hit safely in eight of the last nine games, and on the season he's slashing an impressive .323/.366/.548 with eight homers, seven steals, 15 RBI and 16 runs through 31 contests.
May 6, 2021
Mashes seventh homer
Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop's eighth-inning blast off Josh Tomlin was too little, too late for the Nats. Turner continues to streak towards a career year, hitting .314 with seven homers, seven steals, 12 RBI and 14 runs through 26 games.
May 2, 2021
Pair of steals in win
Turner went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and a run Saturday in the Nationals' 7-2 win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Turner is now a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen-base attempts this season, with his total placing him only one behind the Athletics' Ramon Laureano and the Royals' Whit Merrifield for the MLB lead. The shortstop has supplemented the stolen-base production with six home runs through 97 plate appearances, putting him well on pace to surpass his previous career high (19 in 2018 and 2019) in the category.
Apr 29, 2021
Four hits in Wednesday's win
Turner went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop continues to rake. Over the last 13 games, Turner has seven multi-hit outings, slashing .373/.418/.667 during that stretch with four homers, four steals, six RBI and seven runs scored.
Apr 28, 2021
Homers twice
Turner went 2-for-4 with two home runs in Tuesday's loss against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Turner launched two solo shots -- in the first and in the third inning, both off Trent Thornton -- but his contributions weren't enough to lead the Nationals to a win. The star shortstop continues to make an impact at the top of Washington's lineup, as he owns a .896 OPS through 83 plate appearances.
Apr 27, 2021
Won't miss time
Turner (forearm) will lead off and play shortstop Tuesday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Turner exited Sunday's game against the Mets after getting hit in the elbow by a pitch. He's good to go following Monday's off day, however, and will be able to continue his streak of starting every game so far this season.
Apr 25, 2021
Dealing with bruised forearm
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Turner was removed late in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Mets for precautionary reasons after he suffered a bruised left forearm when he was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Initial X-rays on Turner's forearm/elbow returned negative, leaving the Nationals optimistic that he'll be able to avoid a trip to the 10-day injured list. He'll be re-evaluated Monday before the Nationals determine if he's ready to play in the team's two-game set in Florida against the Blue Jays, which begins Tuesday.
Apr 25, 2021
Leaves after being hit by pitch
Turner was removed in the top of the eighth inning of Sunday's game against the Mets after he was hit in the elbow by a pitch in his previous plate appearance in the sixth inning, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner took his base after being hit and played the subsequent two half innings in the field, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter when his next turn through the order came up. According to Weyrich, Turner was seen getting his elbow checked out by a team trainer in the dugout, but the Nationals have yet to provide an update on the severity of his injury. Consider the shortstop day-to-day heading into a two-game set with the Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla. that begins Tuesday.
Apr 21, 2021
Keeps running Wednesday
Turner went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop has turned on the afterburners, swiping four bags in the last six games, while also racking up four multi-hit performances in his last eight contests. Turner's hot streak has boosted his slash line on the season to .302/.343/.540 with four homers, five steals, seven runs and eight RBI.
Apr 21, 2021
Steals base in win
Turner went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Most of Turner's fantasy production came in the eighth inning when he singled home Andrew Stevenson to even the game at two and then subsequently stole second the next at-bat. Turner is now tied for third in MLB along with a number of other players with four steals and upped his slash line to .305/.349/.559 with four home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Apr 19, 2021
Blasts two home runs Sunday
Turner went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs and a strikeout in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Turner provided the Nationals with their only run support Sunday with his home runs in the third and eighth innings. The 27-year-old has started every game for Washington to begin the year and is slashing .308/.357/.596 with four home runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases.
Apr 14, 2021
Doubles twice in win
Turner went 2-for-4 with two double, a run an RBI and a walk during Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was 0-for-8 with four strikeouts through the first two games of the series, but he returned to form and was on base three times Wednesday. Turner is 9-for-35 with two home runs, three doubles, five runs, five RBI and one stolen base through nine games this season.
Apr 11, 2021
Reaches base three times in loss
Turner went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Turner singled in each of his first three at-bats, as he was responsible for three of the five hits Kershaw gave up in the game. The 27-year-old also swiped his first bag of the season and turned in quite a productive fantasy performance on an otherwise very unproductive day at the plate for the Nationals. Turner has been top four in the MLB in steals in each of the last four seasons so his stolen base Sunday will be the first of many to come.
Apr 7, 2021
Clubs second homer in matinee
Turner went 2-for-7 with a two-run home run and a double during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Braves.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old did all his damage during the Game 1 loss and went deep off Max Fried during the first inning to put Washington on the board. Turner is 3-for-11 with two home runs, one double and four RBI through the first two games of the season.
Apr 7, 2021
Homers in opener
Turner went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and one strikeout during Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Braves.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old's status was in question for the season opener after not being seen at Monday's workout, but he took his usual spot in the field at shortstop Tuesday for Washington. Turner took Drew Smyly deep during the third inning for the Nationals' first home run of the season.
Apr 6, 2021
Included on roster
Turner is listed on the Nationals' 26-man active roster ahead of Tuesday's season-opening doubleheader with the Braves, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The Nationals were cleared to resume workouts Monday after 11 players in the organization recently went into quarantine due to COVID-19 protocols, but Turner wasn't in attendance for the session. His absence fueled speculation that he might be among the 11 players in quarantine, but his inclusion on the Opening Day roster suggests that he'll be good to go as the Nationals open up their season. Fantasy managers who had been waiting for clarity on Turner's status before including him in weekly lineups can probably activate him with more confidence now.
Apr 6, 2021
Absent from Monday's workout
Turner was not on the field for the Nationals' workout Monday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Eleven players in total are reported to be in quarantine for the Nats due to positive COVID-19 tests or being designated a close contact, and Turner's absence from the workout suggests he's probably in one of those groups. If he's one of the latter, he could still be cleared to play in time for Tuesday's game against Atlanta, but assuming Turner is out of the lineup, Hernan Perez appears to be the likely candidate to get the start at shortstop.
Mar 31, 2021
Penciled in as No. 3 hitter
Turner is expected to begin the season hitting third in the batting order, Maria Torres of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop spent the majority of 2020 hitting leadoff for the Nats, but this spring manager Dave Martinez expressed a desire to move Turner into a run-producing spot and has followed through. It's hard to argue that the .335/.394/.588 slash line Turner delivered last year doesn't belong in the heart of the order, but the success of the switch will likely depend more on how Victor Robles fares as the team's new table-setter. If Turner does find a new permanent home in the No. 3 spot, hitting behind Juan Soto rather than the bottom of the order should give him a massive boost in RBI opportunities, but it's not yet clear how it might impact his stolen-base total.
Mar 21, 2021
Quiet spring so far
Turner has gone 5-for-25 (.200) through 11 Grapefruit League games with one double and one stolen base on two attempts.
ANALYSIS
On the bright side, Turner has drawn seven walks against seven strikeouts, but otherwise the shortstop is still trying to find his timing at the plate. There's little reason to be concerned with his performance after he slashed .335/.394/.588 in 2020 with 12 homers and 12 steals in 59 games, but Nats manager Dave Martinez has experimented all spring with Victor Robles in the leadoff spot, and a move down to the two or three hole in the batting order could wind up costing Turner some stolen base opportunities.
Feb 22, 2021
Could slot in two hole in 2021
Nationals manager Dave Martinez acknowledged Sunday that he's considering moving Turner from the leadoff spot into the No. 2 or 3 spot in the order in 2021, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. "Possibly," Martinez said, regarding the possibility of shifting Turner down a spot or two in the lineup. "Like I said, we're running a lot of different lineups, different numbers, talking to a bunch of our analytical people."
ANALYSIS
Coming off an abbreviated 2020 campaign in which Turner slashed an impressive .335/.394/.588, the Nationals are looking for ways to maximize his production at the plate. While slotting one spot lower in the lineup would likely result in a hit to Turner's stolen-base opportunities, he would benefit from an increase in chances to drive in runs. Only 58 of Turner's 259 plate appearances last season came with a runner in scoring position, resulting in the 27-year-old netting only 41 RBI in 59 games despite a monstrous .982 OPS. The Nationals don't have an ideal option on the roster who can come close to providing Turner's speed and on-base skills versus right-handed pitching, but Martinez floated the possibility of Victor Robles replacing Turner as the leadoff man versus lefties. Expect Martinez to experiment with his lineups throughout Grapefruit League play before determining whether Turner will slot in the order once Opening Day arrives.

Gets eight figures
Turner and the Nationals agreed to a one-year, $13 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The star shortstop gets a big raise compared to the $7.45 million deal he signed last offseason. It's hard to say that's undeserved, as he's coming off a year in which he hit an excellent .335/.394/.588 with 12 homers and 12 steals over 59 games. Prorated to a standard 162-game season, that translates to 32.4 homers and steals, which would be a full-season low in the latter category for Turner but which would smash his previous career best of 19 homers.
Sep 27, 2020
Drives in seven runs
Turner went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, seven RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Sunday's 15-5 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Turner's big day Sunday added an exclamation mark to his terrific 2020 campaign. His third-inning grand slam was his 12th long ball of the season and he later pushed his RBI total to 41 with a two-run single and an RBI walk. The star shortstop finished with a .335/.394/.588 slash line with 31 extra-base hits.
Sep 27, 2020
Launches 11th homer
Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during a 5-3 win over the Mets in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop kicked off a five-run third inning for the Nats by taking Rick Porcello deep. Turner is putting the finishing touches on another impressive campaign, slashing .333/.391/.579 through 58 games with 11 homers, 12 steals, 34 RBI and 44 runs.
Sep 24, 2020
Back in action Thursday
Turner (undisclosed) is starting at shortstop and leading off Thursday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
He was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with an undisclosed issue, but is thankfully back in action. Turner is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak and is hitting .284 with three home runs and nine steals in 23 games this month.
Sep 23, 2020
Scratched from starting nine
Turner was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies for an undisclosed reason.
ANALYSIS
Initially listed in Washington's lineup as the starting shortstop and No. 2 hitter, Turner will instead sit for the first time all season. Expect manager Dave Martinez to provide an explanation for Turner's removal from the lineup later Wednesday. Luis Garcia will pick up a start at shortstop, while second baseman Josh Harrison fills Turner's spot in the two hole.
Sep 20, 2020
Up to 10 homers
Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
After a 1-for-4 showing in the matinee, Turner was back atop the order for Game 2, and he kicked off the scoring in the first inning with his 10th home run of the season. The shortstop was not running much at all early on, but he has racked up nine steals in his last 32 games. He's slashing .337/.394/.582 overall and should be an easy first-rounder in rotisserie leagues again next season.
Sep 9, 2020
Swipes sixth bag
Turner went 1-for-4 with a double, a run, an RBI, a stolen base and a walk in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Even with only one hit Tuesday, the 27-year-old was able to provide a variety of production. Turner is in the midst of a career year with a .359/.413/.623 slash line, nine homers, 11 doubles, 35 runs, 25 RBI and six stolen bases in 41 games.
Sep 5, 2020
Flashes skills in twin bill
Turner went 3-for-9 with a solo home run and a stolen base across both games of Friday's doubleheader against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
After going 2-for-4 with a steal during a loss in the matinee, Turner took Will Smith deep in the sixth inning of the nightcap to put the Nats ahead for good in an eventual 10-9 win. The shortstop remains one of the hottest hitters in the league -- over his last 26 games, Turner is slashing .427/.471/.755 with eight homers, four steals, 20 RBI and 28 runs.
Sep 1, 2020
Collects four hits
Turner went 4-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored in Monday's 8-6 loss to the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Turner's seventh-inning solo homer gives him seven on the season. The 27-year-old shortstop has been unstoppable lately; he's riding a 16-game hitting streak with 15 hits in the last four games.
Aug 29, 2020
Five-hit effort in loss
Turner went 5-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of doubles in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Turner was able to score on an error in the third inning after smacking his second double of the game. His other three hits were singles, and he accounted for nearly half of the Nationals' 11 hits in total. The shortstop is on a 14-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 27-for-57 (.474) with three homers, 11 RBI, 17 runs scored and three stolen bases. For the season, he's slashing .350/.410/.617 with six homers, three steals, 17 RBI and 24 runs scored in 30 contests.
Aug 29, 2020
Three hits in big win
Turner went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI in Friday's 10-2 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
He got the Nats' offensive eruption started with a two-run double in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to 13 games in the process. The streak has pushed Turner's slash line on the season up to .322/.388/.583, but if there was a blemish on his performance Friday it's that he was caught stealing for the fourth time in seven attempts this year -- curiously poor numbers after he went 35-for-40 in 2019.
Aug 27, 2020
Hitting streak at 12 games
Turner went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
The steal was only his third of the season, but all three have come in the last nine games. Turner's been on a roll, hitting safety in 12 straight and posting a .404/.472/.745 slash line over that stretch with three homers, eight RBI and 15 runs, and his comfort level at the plate has extended to the basepaths as well.
Aug 23, 2020
Tallies three RBI against Marlins
Turner went 3-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and two runs in Sunday's win against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Turner has swung a hot bat recently as he's now reached base safely in each of the past 14 contests. His three RBI in the series finale against the Marlins matched his highest single-game total of the season, and he now has 13 RBI and 12 extra-base hits while carrying a .949 OPS.
Aug 22, 2020
Swats fifth homer
Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
The shortstop took Eliesar Hernandez deep in the third inning to bring the Nats to within a run of the Marlins, but neither team scored again. Turner is slashing .289/.350/.522 through 22 games with five homers, 10 RBI and 15 runs, but his one steal in four attempts remains disappointing.
Aug 16, 2020
Clubs fourth homer
Turner went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Turner crushed his fourth homer of the year for the Nationals' third and final run of the game. It's second consecutive three-hit effort, raising his slash line to .292/.305/.500 with eight RBI and 10 runs scored in 18 games. Turner has stolen 30-plus bases in each of the last four seasons, but he's 0-for-3 on the basepaths in 2020.
Aug 15, 2020
Three hits in rout
Turner went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's 15-3 rout of the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Every Nats starter, and 11 players in total, got at least one hit on the night, but it was Turner who set the tone from the top of the order. The shortstop is red hot right now, hitting .370 (10-for-27) over the last six games with a double, two homers, five RBI and seven runs, but fantasy GMs invested in Turner won't feel comfortable with his performance until he finally steals his first base of 2020.
Aug 12, 2020
Pops leadoff homer
Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
He smacked the second pitch he saw from Rick Porcello -- an 89 mph fastball at the top of the strike zone -- the other way down the right-field line for a 356-foot homer. Turner has gone yard on consecutive nights, giving him three home runs on the year, but his .255/.288/.455 slash line -- as well as his 0-for-3 performance on steal attempts -- is still well below expectations.
Aug 10, 2020
Swats second homer
Turner went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Monday's 16-4 rout of the Mets.
ANALYSIS
He took Steven Matz deep in the third inning, one of four homers the Nats launched on the night, for his second long ball of the year. Turner had gone just 1-for-20 over his prior five games, but the shortstop -- and nearly the entire Washington lineup -- woke up in a big way as the team began a 10-day road trip.
Jul 29, 2020
Hot streak continues
Turner went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and a caught stealing in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
After a couple of shaky games to start the season, Turner flipped the switch and has now reeled off three straight two-hit efforts. He's still looking for his first stolen base of the campaign, but his .333/.400/.611 slash line through 20 plate appearances has given him plenty of fantasy value without the pilfers.
Jul 26, 2020
Goes yard Sunday
Turner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Sunday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Turner entered the game 0-for-7 on the season, but came through with a nice day at the dish. The highlight came in the third inning, when he took Jonathan Loaisiga deep for his first home run of the campaign. He'll look build on this multi-hit performance as the Nationals square off against the Blue Jays in their second series of the season.
Jul 26, 2020
Rough day in field Saturday
Turner went 0-for-5 with a strikeout and committed two errors in Saturday's win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
The Nats' leadoff hitter has stumbled out of the gate, as he went 0-for-2 in Thursday's opener as well. It's not surprising that some players are a little further behind the curve than others given the nature of this season, but Turner should find a groove eventually. Whether that's quick enough to satisfy those with fantasy shares in him during an abbreviated 60-game schedule in another question.
Mar 11, 2020
Still likely to hit leadoff in '20
Manager Dave Martinez suggested Wednesday that Turner will likely remain the Nationals' leadoff man to begin the season, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Martinez entertained the idea of moving Victor Robles into the table-setting role and dropping Turner down to the three hole earlier in the spring, but the skipper is seemingly less inclined to go in that direction with his lineup. Specifically, Martinez mentioned that he likes having the tandem of Turner and Adam Eaton batting back-to-back, and inserting Robles ahead of them would mean that Juan Soto -- the club's best all-around hitter -- would lose out on around 50 at-bats over the course of the season as a cleanup bat. Batting out of the leadoff spot is probably a best-case scenario for Turner for fantasy purposes, as he'll likely have free reign on the basepaths more frequently than he would as a No. 3 hitter.
Feb 18, 2020
Could bat out of three hole
Manager Dave Martinez is expected to give Turner a look as the Nationals' No. 3 hitter during Grapefruit League games, Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While the Nationals brought in Eric Thames and Starlin Castro this offseason to help offset the departure of Anthony Rendon, neither player profiles as an adequate replacement for the two-time Silver Slugger in the heart of the order. Turner can't match Rendon's power, but his bat-to-ball skills probably make him the best internal candidate to offer protection in front of cleanup hitter Juan Soto. Should Martinez commit to using Turner as his No. 3 hitter, the 26-year-old could lose out on a good amount of running chances, though he would benefit from a major boost in his RBI count. Conversely, Victor Robles would likely assume Turner's old leadoff gig and would presumably see his stolen-base opportunities skyrocket. Per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, Turner was taking reps at shortstop Tuesday in the Nats' first infield workout of the spring, which indicates he's made a full recovery from November surgery to repair a fractured index finger.
Jan 10, 2020
Avoids arbitration
Turner (finger) signed a one-year, $7.45 million contract with the Nationals on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Turner put together a .298/.353/.497 with 19 home runs, 57 RBI and 35 stolen bases over 122 games a season ago. He underwent finger surgery after the 2019 campaign but is expected to be ready for camp.
