Sep 26, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Grisham is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat eighth for the Padres with left-hander Kyle Harrison toeing the slab in San Francisco. The left-handed-hitting Grisham has gone 0-for-20 with five walks and six strikeouts over his last nine games.
Sep 24, 2023
Sitting versus southpaw
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham is mired in an 0-for-17 slump and will take a seat Sunday with lefty Drew Rom pitching for St. Louis. Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth.
Sep 18, 2023
Gets Monday off
Grisham is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rockies, according to Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will head to the bench for a second straight day with southpaw Ty Blach getting the start for Colorado on Monday. As was the case Sunday, Jose Azocar will man center field in Grisham's place.
Sep 17, 2023
Sitting Sunday
Grisham is out of the lineup Sunday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
It's just Grisham's fourth time on the bench in the Padres' past 18 games, but those absences have come against the only left-handed starters they've faced. Lefty Ken Waldichuk will serve as Oakland's bulk pitcher behind an opener Sunday, and Jose Azocar will start in center field for San Diego.
Sep 15, 2023
Not starting Friday
Grisham isn't in the Padres' lineup Friday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will get a breather Friday after picking up just one hit in 13 tries across his last four games. Jose Azocar will fill in as San Diego's center fielder and bat ninth while Grisham sits.
Sep 8, 2023
Productive in Friday's win
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional RBI, one stolen base and two total runs scored in Friday's 11-2 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Grisham got things done in a variety of ways in the blowout victory. He's collected three multi-hit efforts over his first six games in September after ending August in an 0-for-26 slump. The outfielder is up to a .205/.315/.364 slash line with 13 homers, 14 steals, 46 RBI and 60 runs scored through 136 contests. He remains a regular in the lineup, though he's hit at the bottom of the order for a majority of the season.
Sep 5, 2023
Notches 13th steal in two-hit game
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base against the Phillies in Monday's loss.
ANALYSIS
Grisham just finished a rough August during which he slashed .156/.270/.208 with a 36.3 percent strikeout rate over 27 contests. September has started a bit more kindly for him, as he's notched two multi-hit performances thus far while going 4-for-10 through three games. Grisham's defense and power/speed potential have helped keep him in a near-everyday role in center field for the Padres, though his .203/.314/.356 slash line and 29.3 percent strikeout rate on the campaign are hardly the stuff of fantasy greatness.
Sep 2, 2023
Sitting Saturday
Grisham isn't in the Padres' lineup Saturday against the Giants, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will get a day off Saturday after breaking out of an 0-for-26 slump Friday. Jose Azocar will take over in center field and bat ninth.
Aug 29, 2023
Sitting amid slump
Grisham is absent from the lineup Tuesday at St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth as the Padres take on left-hander Zack Thompson. The lefty-swinging Grisham has gone hitless over his last eight games and is batting just .082/.237/.143 in 60 plate appearances since Aug. 8.
Aug 17, 2023
Cranks homer in win
Grisham went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and a walk in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Grisham got a day off Tuesday to reset amid a 1-for-20 slump over his last six games, and it appears to have done him some good. The outfielder went deep in the seventh inning Wednesday to pad the Padres' lead to 4-2. For the season, he's up to 12 homers, 12 stolen bases, 39 RBI, 55 runs scored and a .211/.317/.381 slash line through 116 games in a near-everyday role.
Aug 15, 2023
Sitting amid slump
Grisham is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has gone 1-for-20 with 11 strikeouts over his last six games and his season OPS has dropped to .687. Fernando Tatis will patrol center field for the Padres on Tuesday as Ben Gamel gets a chance in right.
Aug 1, 2023
Swats game-tying homer
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's ninth-inning blast forced extra innings, but the Rockies walked it off in the 10th. The outfielder has faded late in July, going 4-for-34 over his last 11 contests. He's now at a .208/.320/.389 slash line with 11 home runs, 11 stolen bases, 33 RBI and 48 runs scored through 103 games this season. Despite the lackluster hitting, he remains a near-everyday player in center field.
Jul 31, 2023
Swipes 11th bag
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a run and a stolen base in a 5-3 win against the Rangers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham helped generate a key insurance run in the eighth inning, lacing a leadoff single, swiping second base and coming around to score on a Fernando Tatis Jr. single. It was a much-needed positive performance for Grisham, as he came into the contest having gone 1-for-26 over his previous eight games. The centerfielder came out of the All-Star break swinging a hot bat but has regressed since, lowering his season batting average back down to a paltry .207, albeit with a strong 13.4 percent walk rate.
Jul 16, 2023
Plates four runs during twin bill
Grisham went 2-for-7 with a home run, a walk and four RBI across both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has been picking up his production of late, and he continued that surge with a three-run homer in his opening plate appearance of the twin bill. The outfielder added an RBI single in Game 2 to extend his modest hitting streak to six games. During that stretch, Grisham is slashing .350/.435/.650 with Saturday's homer, three doubles, seven RBI and one steal.
Jul 15, 2023
Reaches three times Friday
Grisham went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and a stolen base against the Phillies in an 8-3 win Friday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was very productive out of the No. 9 spot in the lineup, reaching base three times and twice scoring on a teammate's home run. After a slow start to the campaign, Grisham has come alive at the plate over the past three-plus weeks, slashing .295/.403/.508 with two homers, five doubles,, eight RBI, 12 runs and four steals over his past 19 games. He's still striking out at a troublesome 27.4 percent clip over that span, though.
Jul 2, 2023
Perking up at plate
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored in Saturday's 12-5 win against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has largely struggled this season, but he's been hot of late, putting together a five-game hitting streak during which he's tallied a double, a triple, two homers, a stolen base, four RBI and five runs. The center fielder spent some time early in the season hitting atop the order, but he's batted in the No. 8 or No. 9 slot in all 22 games he's played in since June 7. Despite the recent strong stretch, Grisham's season slash line still sits at a disappointing .212/.321/.388, and he's added eight homers, 23 RBI, 35 runs and eight thefts over 297 plate appearances.
Jun 26, 2023
Nabs another steal
Grisham went 0-for-1 with a walk, a run and a stolen base Sunday in a loss to the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham scored San Diego's first run in the fifth inning, reaching first base on a fielder's choice, stealing second and crossing the plate on a Fernando Tatis single. However, Grisham was removed for pinch hitter Gary Sanchez in the bottom of the sixth with two outs and the bases loaded. Washington had brought in southpaw Joe La Sora for that critical moment, and manager Bob Melvin preferred the strikeout-prone Sanchez (who, indeed, struck out) to the lefty Grisham. That was a curious decision given that Grisham has hit lefties well this season, batting .286 with as many homers (three) in 63 at-bats as he has against right-handers in 174 at-bats.
Jun 24, 2023
Notches sixth theft
Grisham went 2-for-3 with a double, a run, an RBI and a stolen base Thursday in a 13-3 victory over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was one of six Padres who collected multiple hits in the contest, and he reached base an additional time on a hit-by-pitch. The outfielder has posted a meager .210/.319/.365 slash line on the season, but he's been hitting well of late. Over the past week, Grisham is slashing .391/.462/.478 with two doubles, two RBI, five runs and a pair of steals.
Jun 18, 2023
Registers fifth steal
Grisham went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Grisham had a solid game from the bottom of the order. He snapped an eight-game skid without a walk while hitting safely for the seventh time in his last nine contests. The outfielder has gone just 7-for-31 (.226) in that span, but it's an improvement on his .195 batting average for the season. Grisham has added five steals, six home runs, 17 RBI, 27 runs scored and 17 doubles through 67 games.
Jun 14, 2023
Picks up fourth steal
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has hit safely in his last four games, going 4-for-15 with a home run and a double in that span. The outfielder has also picked up all four of his steals this season since May 25. He's at a .196/.313/.362 slash line with six homers, 16 RBI, 24 runs scored and 15 doubles through 62 contests as the Padres' primary center fielder. Getting his bat going more consistently would help him solidify his place in the lineup.
Jun 10, 2023
Pops homer Friday
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-6 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham had gone just 2-for-13 over his previous six games in June. The outfielder provided his first homer since May 25, which was his sixth long ball of the campaign. He's more or less on a similar power pace to the last two years, but he's slashing just .191/.315/.362 with 16 RBI, 24 runs scored and three stolen bases through 59 contests. He's likely to be in the bottom third of the order when he plays, though he's still seeing the bulk of playing time in center field.
Jun 7, 2023
Back in lineup Wednesday
Grisham (back) is hitting ninth and playing center field in Wednesday's contest against the Mariners, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was scratched from Monday's game versus the Cubs and unable to play Tuesday against Seattle because of lower back spasms. He'll give it a go Wednesday with Brandon Dixon retreating to the bench and Fernando Tatis moving back to right field.
Jun 6, 2023
Remains sidelined Tuesday
Grisham (back) is out of the lineup again Tuesday versus the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was scratched from the Padres' lineup ahead of Monday's series finale against the Cubs due to lower back spasms and will do another day of rest and treatment. Fernando Tatis is in center field Tuesday and Brandon Dixon will start in right field.
Jun 5, 2023
Late scratch Monday
Grisham isn't starting Monday's game against the Cubs due to lower back spasms.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was scheduled to bat ninth and man center field, but he'll take a seat after feeling some discomfort prior to first pitch. Fernando Tatis will shift to center field and Brandon Dixon enters the lineup to play right field in Grisham's absence.
Jun 1, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Grisham is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Miami, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Marlins are throwing left-hander Jesus Luzardo, so Grisham will take a seat. Jose Azocar will patrol center field.
May 30, 2023
Two steals in win
Grisham went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two steals in Tuesday's victory over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Grisham is now 3-for-6 on stolen base attempts this year after swiping seven bags last season. Tuesday's two-hit game was just his second multi-hit performance since May 5 -- he's now 8-for-62 in that span. Overall, Grisham is slashing just .196/.322/.363 with five homers, 20 runs scored and 14 RBI through 200 plate appearances.
May 25, 2023
Homer, stolen base in win
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a steal in Thursday's victory over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham got the Padres on the board with a two-run shot off Jake Irvin in the second inning before picking up his first stolen base of the year in the sixth. Grisham will hope that Thursday's performance will get him back on track -- he'd gone just 4-for-46 with a .353 OPS in his previous 16 games. Overall, the 26-year-old outfielder is slashing .194/.313/.368 with five home runs, 14 RBI and 19 runs scored through 183 plate appearances this season.
May 19, 2023
Not in lineup Friday
Grisham is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Adam Engel will cover center field and bat ninth with left-hander James Paxton on the bump for Boston. Grisham had made four straight starts in center for the Padres prior to Friday's night of rest.
May 13, 2023
Out against lefty
Grisham is not in Saturday's lineup against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will take his customary place on the bench with a southpaw (Julio Urias) on the hill for the opposition. Adam Engel will patrol center field while batting ninth.
May 7, 2023
On bench against lefty
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will step out of the starting nine Sunday with southpaw Julio Urias on the mound for Los Angeles. Adam Engel will man center field in his place for the series finale.
May 2, 2023
Out of lineup Tuesday
Grisham is out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Monday's series-opening win versus Cincinnati, but he'll grab a breather Tuesday in the second game of the three-game set. Jose Azocar is covering center field for the Padres and hitting ninth.
May 2, 2023
Collects three hits Monday
Grisham went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI in an 8-3 win over Cincinnati on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was one of five Padres with multiple hits in the victory, and he recorded his first three-hit performance of the season. He knocked two doubles to bring his total to 10 on the campaign, tied for second in the National League. Grisham has also produced a .220/.333/.440 slash line, four homers, 12 RBI and 13 runs.
Apr 26, 2023
Gets day off Wednesday
Grisham is out of the starting lineup against the Cubs on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will take a seat against southpaw Drew Smyly and the Cubs on Wednesday. Jose Azocar will get the start in center and hit ninth with Grisham getting the night off.
Apr 21, 2023
Knocks in four runs Thursday
Grisham went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and four RBI in a 7-5 win against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham entered the contest with just five RBI on the campaign despite having hit four homers. He nearly doubled his RBI total Thursday without going deep, plating a pair of runners with second-inning double and duplicating the feat with another double in the sixth. Grisham temporarily lost his starting job in center field last season due to prolonged struggles at the plate, but he's solidified an everyday role this year with a more reliable performance on offense. Through 20 games, he's slashing .233/.333/.493 with a 13.1 percent walk rate and a 26.2 percent strikeout rate.
Apr 17, 2023
Sitting against Atlanta
Grisham is out of the starting lineup for Monday's contest against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will get Monday off with southpaw Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta on Monday. Jose Azocar moves over to centerfield in his absence, and Brandon Dixon will get the start in right.
Apr 14, 2023
Knocks fourth long ball
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham failed to reach base in his first three plate appearances before coming through with a clutch two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning that tied the score 3-3. The outfielder is tied for the team lead with four long balls on the season, but Thursday's was his first that wasn't a solo shot, and he's tallied just five RBI on the campaign. Grisham's above-average power and speed give him some intrigue in fantasy, and he's always been able to work a walk at the plate. However, he's batting just .200 so far in 2023 after posting a career-worst .184 average last season.
Apr 10, 2023
Swats third homer
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 10-2 win over Atlanta on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hit the second of three homers for San Diego in the victory, slugging a 424-foot solo shot to center field in the fourth inning. He's gone deep three times this season, though all three have been solo shots, so he's picked up just three total RBI on the campaign. Grisham also has a pair of doubles and has scored six runs through 10 games.
Apr 5, 2023
Swats second long ball
Grisham went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday.
ANALYSIS
With the Padres down three runs in the ninth inning, Grisham narrowed the deficit with his two-out solo shot to right field, though San Diego didn't put any more runs on the board. The outfielder has started the season well, reaching base in all six of the Padres' games thus far. After struggling to a .184/.284/.341 slash line last season, Grisham has looked better to begin 2023, slashing .238/.333/.619 with two homers, two doubles, two RBI and four runs through 24 plate appearances.
Apr 3, 2023
Hits first homer of season
Grisham went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a walk in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Colorado.
ANALYSIS
After a shaky spring training, Grisham has looked solid to start the regular season, securing three extra-base knocks over the Padres' first four contests. Across 152 games in 2022 (524 PAs), the lefty posted a .184/.284/.341 slash line with 17 home runs and 53 RBI, so he's looking for a bounce-back campaign in 2023.
Mar 15, 2023
Uneven results at plate this spring
Grisham is slashing .179/.273/.321 with a home run, a double, five RBI, six runs and a 4:8 BB:K through 11 Cactus League contests.
ANALYSIS
Grisham began spring play in fine fashion, gathering three hits -- including his lone home run -- over his first four at-bats. He's been ice cold since then, going just 2-for-24. Though spring training stats don't count for much, San Diego surely would like to see Grisham build some positive momentum heading into the regular season after he struggled to a .184/.284/.341 slash line across 524 plate appearances last year. His Gold Glove defense ensures some amount of job security as the team's starting center fielder, but Grisham is a risky fantasy target given his offensive downturn last season.
Jan 13, 2023
Gets $3.175 million from Padres
Grisham signed a one-year, $3.175 million contract with the Padres on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham batted just .184 in 2022 but did slug 17 home runs and captured his second Gold Glove. His defense will give him some leash, but the Padres might not be as patient with him again in 2023 if he can't bounce back at the plate to some degree.
Oct 9, 2022
Takes control of center field
Grisham will start in center field and bat eighth in Sunday's Game 3 against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Grisham lost his hold on the Padres' everyday center-field gig by middle of September, only to regain it from Jose Azocar over the final week of the regular season. He's maintained the top job thus far in the postseason, going 2-for-6 with a pair of home runs, a walk and two additional runs.
Sep 18, 2022
Losing work to Azocar
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Grisham is on the bench for the third game in a row and for the second time against a right-handed starting pitcher during that stretch. Dating back to Aug. 20, Grisham is slashing just .109/.226/.239 over a span of 21 games, even while the Padres have limited his exposure to left-handed pitching. He looks to have lost hold of his strong-side platoon role in center field to Jose Azocar, who is making his third straight start.
Sep 17, 2022
Day off Saturday
Grisham isn't starting Saturday against Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Although right-hander Zac Gallen is starting for the Diamondbacks on Saturday, Grisham will be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game. Jose Azocar will take over in center field and bat ninth.
Sep 16, 2022
Sitting versus lefty
Grisham is out of Friday's lineup against the D-backs, source reports.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Grisham will take a seat Friday as southpaw Madison Bumgarner is scheduled to begin the game on the mound for Arizona. Instead, Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth.
Sep 11, 2022
Sits against lefty
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Grisham will stay on the bench for the second game in a row with the Dodgers bringing another southpaw (Andrew Heaney) to the hill. The righty-hitting Jose Azocar will once again replace Grisham in center field.
Sep 10, 2022
Takes seat Saturday
Grisham isn't starting Saturday against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will get a breather after he went 2-for-7 with a home run, three RBI, two runs, a stolen base and two strikeouts over the last two games. Jose Azocar is starting in center field and batting ninth.
Sep 10, 2022
Drives in three with homer
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a 5-4 extra-inning win over the Dodgers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's only hit of the contest was a big one, as his three-run blast in the second inning gave San Diego an early lead. The long ball extended his career-high mark to 17 on the campaign, though the increased power has come at the expense of a career-worst .191/.296/.360 slash line and 26.3 percent strikeout rate. Grisham has gathered a hit in two straight games after going 0-for-12 across his first five contests in September.
Sep 8, 2022
Swipes bag, scores run
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Grisham entered the game after Juan Soto (shoulder) exited. It was a productive appearance off the bench for Grisham, who is up to six stolen bases without getting caught. He also snapped an 0-for-13 skid at the plate that had spanned all of September. The outfielder has a .190/.297/.354 slash line with 16 home runs, 49 RBI and 54 runs scored through 482 plate appearances. If Soto misses time, Grisham would likely see a slight uptick in usage, though the former's injury is just a bruise.
Sep 7, 2022
On bench against southpaw
Grisham isn't starting Wednesday against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went 0-for-8 with a walk and three strikeouts over his last three games and will head to the bench with left-hander Tommy Henry starting for the Diamondbacks. Jose Azocar is starting in center field and batting ninth.
Sep 3, 2022
Sits against lefty
Grisham will be on the bench Saturday against the Dodgers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will sit with lefty Julio Urias on the mound for the Dodgers. He's now been on the bench against the last nine lefties the Padres have faced. Jose Azocar will start in center field.
Aug 31, 2022
Ends skid Tuesday
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went deep in the seventh inning, ending his 0-for-12 skid at the plate. It was his first extra-base hit since Aug. 14 and his first homer since a day before that. The outfielder set a new career high with 16 long balls through 126 contests this year. He's added 49 RBI, 52 runs scored and five stolen bases while slashing .195/.299/.365, though he appears to be limited to the strong side of a platoon in center field.
Aug 29, 2022
Held out Monday
Grisham is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, according to Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was held out the last six times the Padres faced a left-hander, and that will be the case again Monday with southpaw Carlos Rodon getting the start for the Giants. Wil Myers will take Grisham's place in center field.
Aug 27, 2022
Sits against southpaw
Grisham isn't starting Saturday's game against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hasn't started against a left-handed pitcher since Aug. 4, and he'll be out of the lineup for a second consecutive game with southpaw Daniel Lynch starting Saturday. Jose Azocar will take his place in center field and bat ninth.
Aug 26, 2022
Sits against lefty
Grisham will sit Friday against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's off day against lefty Kris Bubic means he's now been on the bench against the last five lefties the Padres have faced. Jose Azocar will get the start in center field.
Aug 21, 2022
Idle against southpaw
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The righty-hitting Jose Azocar will draw the start in center field in place of the lefty-hitting Grisham, who sits with southpaw Patrick Corbin on the mound for Washington. Since Aug. 1, Grisham is hitting .228 with five home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs and one stolen base in 20 games.
Aug 13, 2022
Goes deep Friday
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and two walks in a 10-5 win over Washington on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's big contribution to the win was a 442-foot, three-run homer in the fifth inning that gave the Padres a seven-run lead. The long ball was his first since he went deep in the team's first three contests this month. Grisham has been better in August but is still batting just .197 on the season and regularly sits against southpaw starters.
Aug 8, 2022
Gets another breather
Grisham is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The Padres will face a left-hander for the third straight day, and like he did both Saturday and Sunday he will open on the bench while Wil Myers starts in center field. Grisham is actually faring better against lefties than righties this season, but either way he is still hitting just .194, so don't be surprised if this arrangement continues.
Aug 7, 2022
Sitting versus lefty
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will be on the bench for the second straight game with Los Angeles sending lefty Tyler Anderson to the mound Sunday. Wil Myers will man center field while Brandon Drury serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 3, 2022
Goes yard twice Tuesday
Grisham went 3-for-7 with two walks, two home runs, four runs scored and four RBI across both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old went yard in both contests and he played hero in the nightcap, taking Alex Colome deep for a walkoff solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning. Grisham extended his homer streak to three games and his hit streak to seven in the process, and since the beginning of July he's slashing .233/.316/.512 with seven of his 13 home runs on the year, but his slash line on the season remains a shaky .198/.294/.366.
Aug 2, 2022
Swats solo shot
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has hit safely in five straight games, but he hasn't recorded a multi-hit effort since July 7. He went yard four times in 24 games in July, and it didn't take the veteran outfielder long to smack a homer in August. For the season, he owns a .193/.288/.347 slash line with 11 long balls, 36 RBI, 40 runs scored and four stolen bases through 100 contests.

Returns to lineup
Grisham (back) is starting Monday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham sat out Sunday's series finale against the Mets due to a back injury, but he'll return to action following a one-game absence. Over two games since the All-Star break, he's gone 1-for-6 with a solo home run and a strikeout.
Jul 24, 2022
Sitting out Sunday
Grisham (back) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was removed from Saturday's game after his back locked up due to a collision at first base, and he'll be out of the lineup for at least one contest. Esteury Ruiz will receive the start Sunday in center field for the Friars.
Jul 24, 2022
Exits after collision
Grisham was removed in the eighth inning of Saturday's game against the Mets after falling to the ground in a collision at first base. His back locked up, and he may be held out of Sunday's contest as a result, according to the Associated Press.
ANALYSIS
In the top of the seventh frame, Grisham hit a grounder to first base and knocked his foot against opposing pitcher Chris Bassitt, who was covering on the play. The collision caused Grisham to tumble to the ground, but he was able to play defense in the bottom of the inning. However, he was replaced in center field by Esteury Ruiz in the eighth, and Padres manager Bob Melvin clarified after the contest that the removal was due to Grisham's back locking up. Grisham went 0-for-3 with a strikeout prior to departing.
Jul 23, 2022
Slugs solo shot
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-1 victory versus the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Grisham failed to reach base in his two plate appearances against Max Scherzer, but he pounced on a Joely Rodriguez changeup in the seventh inning for a 404-foot solo homer. The long ball was Grisham's 10th of the campaign, giving him three straight seasons with double-digit homers. It's been an otherwise forgettable year for the center fielder, as he's slashing a meek .192/.292/.340 through 349 plate appearances.
Jul 15, 2022
Sitting Friday
Grisham will sit Friday against the Diamondbacks, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham homered Thursday but still owns a poor .192/.295/.334 slash line on the season. He'll hit the bench against lefty Madison Bumgarner, with Esteury Ruiz starting in center field.
Jul 15, 2022
Pops homer, swipes bag
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a stolen base Thursday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was in the lineup even with a lefty on the mound and delivered his ninth homer and fourth stolen base of the season. He's popped three of his long balls since July 1, also racking up five RBI and five runs scored across 12 starts in that span. For the season, Grisham has a .192/.295/.334 line across 338 plate appearances.
Jul 12, 2022
On bench versus lefty
Grisham is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Grisham will take a seat with southpaw Austin Gomber on the mound, paving the way for Triple-A El Paso call-up Esteury Ruiz to start in center field in his MLB debut. With Jurickson Profar (concussion) and Wil Myers (knee) residing on the injured list, the Padres will still have room in the outfield for both Grisham and Ruiz against a right-handed pitching, if manager Bob Melvin chooses to give the rookie a look as an everyday player.
Jul 8, 2022
Swipes third bag
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in a 2-1 win in extra innings Thursday over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Grisham singled and stole second base in the third inning and added a bunt single in the 10th. It was just the third steal and third attempt for Grisham this season after swiping double-digit bases in 2020 and 2021. With a .191/.288/.333 batting line, the 25-year-old has struggled all season to find his stroke at the plate.
Jul 5, 2022
Goes deep in loss
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
The Padres didn't have much to celebrate in the Independence Day loss, but Grisham provided a small spark with his ninth-inning, 401-foot shot to right field. The homer was his second in his past four games and eighth of the campaign, putting him on pace for a chance to exceed the career-high 15 long balls he smacked last season. However, Grisham's slash line has cratered in 2022 -- it sits at an ugly .188/.285/.335 through 79 contests.
Jul 2, 2022
Knocks seventh homer
Grisham went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham accounted for the Padres' lone run off Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin, swatting a fifth-inning homer. In four games since returning from a shoulder injury, Grisham has gone 2-for-14 with two RBI. The outfielder is slashing .192/.290/.332 with seven long balls, 29 RBI, 30 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases in 76 contests this season.
Jun 29, 2022
No hits in return
Grisham (shoulder) went 0-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Grisham knocked in the Padres' third run with a groundout in the fifth inning. He missed two games with shoulder soreness, but it was not deemed a significant issue. The outfielder had started to pick up the pace a bit prior to the injury, but he still owns a lackluster .188/.287/.321 slash line with six home runs, 28 RBI, 29 runs scored and two stolen bases across 281 plate appearances.
Jun 28, 2022
Good to go Tuesday
Grisham (shoulder) is starting in center field and batting leadoff Tuesday at Arizona.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old sat out the past two games while dealing with soreness in his right shoulder, though it never appears to have been a serious issue since he served as a defensive replacement late in Sunday's contest. Grisham posted a .244/.304/.390 slash line with two home runs, six RBI and eight runs in the 10 games prior to the injury.
Jun 26, 2022
Out again Sunday
Grisham (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to right shoulder soreness, and he won't rejoin the starting nine for Sunday's series finale. The Padres have a scheduled day off Monday, so the 25-year-old will have an extra day to recover before Tuesday's series opener against the Diamondbacks. Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth.
Jun 25, 2022
Late scratch Saturday
Grisham was a late scratch from Saturday's lineup versus the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
After he was originally penciled in as starting in center field, Grisham was removed from the lineup ahead of Saturday's matchup. The team cited shoulder soreness as the reason for his absence. Jose Azocar will draw the start in center field and bat ninth.
Jun 24, 2022
Riding pine Friday
Grisham isn't in the lineup Friday against the Phillies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hit .250 with a homer, four runs and two RBI over the last five games and will get a rare day off Friday. Jose Azocar is starting in center field and batting ninth.
Jun 21, 2022
Slugs solo shot
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Grisham added some insurance for the Padres with his fifth-inning blast. Three of his six homers this season have come in the last 11 games, though he's batting just .225 (9-for-40) in that span. In 67 contests overall, he's logged a .188/.289/.332 slash line with 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, two stolen bases, 10 doubles and two triples. He should continue to see a regular role as a solid defensive center fielder -- he's yet to commit an error this season.
Jun 18, 2022
Solo homer in loss
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss against Colorado.
ANALYSIS
The home run in Friday's game was Grisham's fifth of the season. It gave him a hit in four of his last five games and helped raise his batting average to a dismal .188. Although Grisham has seen his average improve this month thanks to 15 hits in 17 games, the outfielder has also picked up 14 strikeouts during that span. Hopefully his June slash line of .250/.333/.417 is a sign that he has figured something out and will continue to improve going forward.
Jun 16, 2022
Plates two runs
Grisham went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run in Wednesday's 19-5 win over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
After leading off and going 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI in Tuesday's 12-5 win, Grisham returned to his usual spot in the bottom third of the order Wednesday with Jurickson Profar returning from a one-game respite. Grisham continued to produce at the bottom of the lineup and is now sitting on a .264 average in June, but it's unlikely to result in him displacing the even-hotter-hitting Profar atop the order. Per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Grisham will hit eighth and cover center field in Thursday's series finale in Chicago.
Jun 12, 2022
Swats homer Saturday
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's solo shot in the third inning was San Diego's only run in the game until Manny Machado scored the winning run on an error in the 10th frame. Grisham went 0-for-2 with a walk in the nightcap of the twin bill. He is slashing .290/.371/.516 with 10 runs, three RBI and a stolen base over his past nine games.
Jun 4, 2022
Records first steal
Grisham went 2-for-5 with two doubles, a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 7-0 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hadn't attempted a stolen base this year prior to Friday, but he took his chances and swiped third before scoring on a Jurickson Profar single in the fifth inning. It's an unusual lack of speed on display for Grisham in 2022 -- he had 13 steals in 132 games last season. Part of his problem has been getting on base, as he's slashing a poor .167/.278/.296 with three home runs, 18 RBI, 13 runs scored, eight doubles and two triples through 193 plate appearances. The outfielder has mainly hit in the bottom third of the order since early May due to his prolonged slump at the plate.
May 30, 2022
Belts walkoff homer
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in a 4-2 victory versus the Pirates on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The teams played to a stalemate through nine innings, and Pittsburgh was unable to score in the top of the 10th. Grisham walked up to the plate to lead off the Padres' half of the frame and sent everyone home with a game-winning blast to right field. This was one of few offensive highlights for Grisham this season, as he's struggled so far with a .164/.269/.274 slash line and a career-worst 26.2 percent strikeout rate through 172 plate appearances.
May 27, 2022
On bench again Friday
Grisham remains on the bench Friday against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The Padres will face their second straight southpaw (Jose Quintana), so Grisham will sit for the second straight game. He had effectively a true everyday role in center field for the first month of the season, but he's since slipped into a platoon with Jose Azocar in center field, with Azocar starting ahead of Grisham against five of the last six lefties the team has faced. Grisham is hitting just .157/.258/.250 on the season, so it's tough to say he deserves to reclaim the everyday job.
May 25, 2022
Not in Wednesday's lineup
Grisham isn't starting Wednesday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham drew starts in the last two games and went 2-for-8 with a double, an RBI and three strikeouts. Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth.
May 22, 2022
Sits Sunday
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jose Azocar will get a look while Grisham sits following a stretch of seven consecutive starts in which he went 3-for-25 with a 2:8 BB:K. Grisham's average now sits at a putrid .146 on the season, and he could soon find himself on the bench on a more frequent basis, at least against left-handed pitchers.
May 13, 2022
On bench against left-hander
Grisham isn't in the lineup Friday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has drawn some starts against left-handed pitchers this year, but he'll be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games with southpaw Max Fried on the mound for Atlanta on Friday. Jose Azocar will start in center field and bat ninth.
May 10, 2022
Sitting against southpaw
Grisham is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Cubs, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham started the past 14 games and will head to the bench Tuesday after slashing .154/.279/.231 during that stretch. Jose Azocar will man center field with lefty Wade Miley starting for Chicago.
May 1, 2022
Racks up three hits Sunday
Grisham went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two strikeouts in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Grisham his just .095 with a triple, two runs, a double and seven strikeouts over his seven games leading up to Saturday, but he put together back-to-back multi-hit performances to close out the series against Pittsburgh. The 25-year-old has led off in five straight games and is now hitting .182 with a homer, six RBI and four runs this season.
Apr 23, 2022
Sits against southpaw
Grisham will be on the bench Saturday against lefty Tyler Anderson and the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham started against the first three lefties the Padres faced this season, but he's now been on the bench against three of the last four. Jose Azocar will take over in center field.
Apr 19, 2022
On bench again Tuesday
Grisham will sit for the second straight game Tuesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Grisham started the first 11 games of the year but will now sit for the second straight day. That may indicate an unreported injury, though it could also imply that he's slipping into a platoon role, as both of his days off have come against lefties, including Tuesday's starter Reiver Sanmartin. Grisham actually has a reverse platoon split thus far in his career, however, with a 113 wRC+ against lefties and a 100 wRC+ against righties, so such a setup might not be the way to get the most out of him. Jose Azocar will make his second straight start in center field Tuesday.
Apr 18, 2022
Receives Monday off
Grisham is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham started the first 11 games of the season and will receive a well-deserved day off, especially since the Padres have yet to have a scheduled off day. The 25-year-old has struggled so far in 2022 with a .515 OPS and 28.6 percent strikeout rate. Jose Azocar will start in center field Monday for the Friars.
Apr 16, 2022
Pops first homer of year
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
He took Will Smith deep in the eighth inning with the Padres down by four runs. The homer and RBI were both Grisham's first of the year, but his spot at the top of the order doesn't yet seem to be in jeopardy despite a .150/.227/.250 slash line through 10 games.
Apr 14, 2022
Leading off, despite struggles
Grisham will start in center field and bat leadoff Thursday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Austin Nola received a look out of the leadoff spot Opening Day, but Grisham has since slotted in atop the lineup in each of the Padres' subsequent six games. Grisham has gone just 2-for-21 while reaching base at a .174 clip during that stretch, however, so it wouldn't be surprising if manager Bob Melvin elected to shuffle the lineup if the 25-year-old doesn't get going at the plate soon.
Mar 31, 2022
Will have everyday role in CF
Grisham is expected to play center field "pretty much every day" this season, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That Grisham will be the Padres' primary center fielder comes as no surprise, though his importance there is considerably heightened by the fact that, per Cassavell, the team doesn't have an obvious backup at the position. Manager Bob Melvin did mention, however, that CJ Abrams could get some reps there, which would give him a path to a major-league roster spot even after Fernando Tatis (wrist) returns to action. In addition to Abrams, Jurickson Profar and Wil Myers could be used to man center if needed, though neither has done particularly well when tried at the position in the past.
Sep 30, 2021
Sitting Thursday
Grisham is not starting in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has started eight consecutive games and hit .276/.313.483 in that span with one home run, five RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Despite that strong production, he'll hit the bench, with Fernando Tatis shifting to the outfield and Ha-Seong Kim starting at shortstop.
Sep 30, 2021
Notches another steal
Grisham went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in Wednesday's 11-9 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's only hit of the night drove in two runs as the Padres were able to build up to a 9-5 lead in the seventh. The 24-year-old also stole his second base over the last three games to put him at 13 steals for the year. He's had an underwhelming month, however, hitting just .185/.233/.309 with two home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs scored, two steals and 5:24 BB:K through 23 games.
Sep 27, 2021
Swipes 12th bag
Grisham went 1-for-5 with a stolen base Sunday in a loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Grisham managed only one hit in the contest, but he did add to his output with a stolen base. The theft was his first since Aug. 22. It has been a rough September for the outfielder, as he is batting a meager .189 with a 5:22 BB:K over 74 at-bats.
Sep 23, 2021
Slugs 15th homer
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and a walk in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Grisham enjoyed a productive effort in the extra-inning victory, driving home Fernando Tatis on a first-inning sacrifice fly and then adding a solo homer in the sixth to square the game at 5-5. Grisham has hit just .177 during the month of September, but he's shown signs of coming out of it in recent days, going 4-for-11 with a pair of extra-base hits and two walks over his last three tilts.
Sep 19, 2021
On bench Sunday
Grisham is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
An 0-for-4 performance Saturday lowered Grisham's average to a dismal .054 in his last 10 games, a span during which he's recorded one extra-base hit and three RBI while striking out 14 times. Fernando Tatis is starting in center field for Sunday's series finale.
Sep 7, 2021
Out of Tuesday's lineup
Grisham is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will sit for the second time in the past three contests, with both games on the bench coming against a left-handed starter. Tommy Pham, Fernando Tatis and Wil Myers will start from left to right in the outfield Tuesday.
Sep 2, 2021
Homers as part of three-hit day
Grisham went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Grisham notched a pair of singles in Wednesday's contest but his big hit was a solo home run off Luke Weaver in the sixth inning. It's the 24-year-old's first multi-hit game since Aug. 10 and his first three-hit game since June 27. Grisham has also returned to the top of the order over the last three games after the Padres went with Fernando Tatis as their leadoff man for a few games towards the end of August. He's now slashing .255/.346/.439 with 37 extra-base hits, 53 RBI, 48 runs scored, 10 steals and 47:91 BB:K over 422 plate appearances.
Aug 28, 2021
On bench against southpaw
Grisham isn't starting Saturday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Grisham recorded hits in each of the last three contests but will head to the bench with lefty Jose Suarez on the mound for the Angels. Fernando Tatis will shift to center field while Will Myers starts in right field.
Aug 24, 2021
Sitting against lefty
Grisham is not starting Tuesday against the Dodgers and left-hander Julio Urias.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has just two hits in his last 14 at-bats, and he'll now take a seat with Los Angeles sending a lefty to the mound. Fernando Tatis will start in center field as Wil Myers mans right field Tuesday.
Aug 20, 2021
Takes seat Friday
Grisham isn't in the lineup Friday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham recorded hits in each of his last four appearances, and he went 4-for-13 with a home run, four RBI and two runs during that span. However, he'll get a breather with left-hander Matt Moore starting for the Phillies on Friday. Fernando Tatis will shift to center field while Wil Myers starts in right.
Aug 17, 2021
Knocks 13th homer
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Monday's 6-5 loss to Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was 0-for-3 before crushing his game-tying, three-run homer off Daniel Bard in the ninth inning. It was his first homer since Aug. 6 and just his second in the last 32 games. The lefty outfielder is now slashing .258/.353/.452 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI through 327 plate appearances.
Aug 10, 2021
Hits triple, plates two
Grisham went 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, two runs scored and two walks in Monday's win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Grisham recorded his third triple of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning, scoring both Eric Hosmer and Wil Myers, but that wasn't his lone impact in the game. He also crossed home plate in the fourth, following a sac fly from starting pitcher Joe Musgrove, and he scored on a sac fly from Victor Caratini in the eighth as well. The speedy outfielder, who also has 10 stolen bases on the season, is hitting .261 with a .810 OPS across 349 plate appearances this year.
Aug 8, 2021
Sitting against lefty
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
With a southpaw (Madison Bumgarner) on the hill for Arizona, the lefty-hitting Grisham will take a seat in the series finale. The righty-hitting Jake Marisnick will get the nod in center field in Grisham's stead, and the two could form a platoon at the position for the foreseeable future.
Aug 7, 2021
Ends power drought Friday
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The center fielder's two-run shot in the second inning gave San Diego an early lead and snapped a personal 21-game stretch without a long ball. After a rough July in which he batted a paltry .178, Grisham has rebounded with a trio of two-hit efforts through four games in August.
Aug 1, 2021
Sitting Sunday
Grisham is out of the lineup Sunday versus the Rockies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham is 0-for-18 with six strikeouts over his past six games and will receive the day off in the series finale against Colorado. Jake Marisnick, who was acquired from the Cubs on Friday, will debut with his new team in center field.
Jul 28, 2021
On bench Wednesday
Grisham isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went 0-for-7 with three strikeouts across the last two contests. Jurickson Profar will draw the start in center field and bat eighth.
Jul 21, 2021
Sits in first game of doubleheader
Grisham is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Jurickson Profar will join Wil Myers and Tommy Pham in the San Diego outfield while Grisham sits for the first time since June 19, ending a stretch of 24 consecutive starts for the 24-year-old. Grisham will likely check back into the starting nine for the second game of the twin bill.
Jul 19, 2021
Notches ninth steal
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in a loss to Washington on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham came up with a big hit in the ninth inning, singling to score Jorge Mateo with two outs and the Padres down by a run. He subsequently stole second base but was ultimately stranded at third. Grisham is up to nine steals on the campaign, and he also has 11 home runs, 38 RBI, 37 runs and a .270/.357/.476 slash line.
Jul 17, 2021
Reaches base four times in blowout
Grisham went 2-for-5 with two walks, two runs and an RBI in Friday's 24-8 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Grisham didn't play the final one and a half innings of the contest, but that didn't prevent him from churning out a useful line prior to his departure. Given that the Padres exploded for a franchise-record run total with Grisham in the leadoff spot, he'll likely stick atop the order for the foreseeable future after her had served as San Diego's No. 5 hitter in the final four games before the All-Star break.
Jul 16, 2021
Moves to leadoff spot Friday
Grisham is leading off Friday against the Nationals, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Tommy Pham has served as the Friars' primary leadoff hitter this season, with Grisham typically batting toward the middle or even bottom of the lineup. Manager Jayce Tingler will shuffle things to start the second half, as Grisham moves to the top of the order and Pham slides down to the fifth spot. It's not yet clear if Tingler plans on having this be a permanent change, and that decision could depend on how the San Diego offense performs Friday.
Jul 11, 2021
Swipes eighth bag
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a double, run, stolen base, walk and strikeout in a 3-1 loss to Colorado on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham helped get San Diego on the board with his second-inning double and subsequent run and later stole second after walking in the fourth. The young outfielder enters the break with a .274/.357/.491 slash line with 11 home runs, 35 runs, 36 RBI and eight stolen bases in 64 games.
Jul 9, 2021
Provides walkoff hit
Grisham went 2-for-5 with a single, an RBI and a run in Thursday's 9-8 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
The Padres fell behind by eight runs early in the contest, but they came storming back with eight runs between the fourth and eighth frames. That set the stage for Grisham to play hero in the ninth after the Nationals opted to intentionally walk Manny Machado with the potential winning run on third base and two outs. Grisham came through with a single to right field to cap the improbable comeback. The base knock also extended Grisham's streak of multi-hit performances to three games. Over that stretch, he is batting .400 (6-for-15) with a homer, three runs and three RBI.
Jul 8, 2021
Blasts homer late
Grisham went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's ninth inning long ball was a nice present for fantasy managers who roster him, though it came with the Padres down by double digits on the scoreboard. After going 2-for-17 through his first five games in July, Grisham has collected four hits over his past 10 at-bats. He is slashing .274/.360/.502 with 11 homers, 33 RBI and seven stolen bases overall this season.
Jun 30, 2021
Goes yard twice
Grisham went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI Wednesday against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Grisham would have had the chance to add to his monster line, but the game was called in the sixth inning due to rain. Even so, he managed to go yard twice in his first three at-bats, highlighted by his grand slam in the fifth inning. Grisham now has 10 home runs on the season, four of which have come since he was activated off the injured list on June 12. Overall, Grisham has maintained a strong .281/.365/.526 line with 30 RBI, 29 runs scored and seven runs scored across 219 plate appearances on the campaign.
Jun 28, 2021
Tallies three doubles
Grisham went 3-for-4 with three doubles, one RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 5-4 win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Grishman scored in the first inning, knocked in a run and scored again in the seventh. His three doubles marked his first multiple extra-base hit game of the season. He has reached base safely at least twice in his last four games. The 24-year-old is slashing .276/.360/.497 with eight home runs, 24 RBI and seven steals.

Not starting Saturday
Grisham is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
He receives a day off following a 1-for-5, two-strikeout performance Friday night. In seven games since returning from the injured list, Grisham has hit .160 with two homers and seven RBI. Jurickson Profar will start in center field and bat seventh in Grisham's stead Saturday.
Jun 16, 2021
Homers, drives in three
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to Colorado.
ANALYSIS
Grisham knocked a two-run homer off Colorado starter Kyle Freeland in the third inning. The outfielder added a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the ninth. Prior to Wednesday, Grisham had gone just 1-for-12 in four games since he returned from a heel injury. The 24-year-old is slashing .289/.370/.520 with eight homers, 19 RBI, 25 runs scored and seven stolen bases across 172 plate appearances this year.
Jun 14, 2021
Hammers two-run shot
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
San Diego entered the ninth inning trailing 3-0 before Grisham took Daniel Bard deep for a two-run shot but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback. It was the 24-year-old's seventh long ball of the year and his first since returning from the injured list Saturday. Grisham is slashing .290/.372/.510 with 16 extra-base hits and 16 RBI through 164 plate appearances.
Jun 13, 2021
Gets Sunday off
Grisham is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Grisham will head to the bench in what's likely a pre-planned maintenance after he returned from a heel injury to start in center field in Saturday's 4-1 loss. The 24-year-old slotted into the two hole in his first game with the Padres since May 21, going 0-for-3 with a walk. Jorge Mateo will cover center field Sunday while Grisham rests.
Jun 12, 2021
Activated from IL
Grisham (heel) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Padres manager Jayce Tingler had previously suggested that Grisham was likely to return Sunday or early next week, but the team instead opted to get him back into the lineup -- he'll start in center field and bat second -- Saturday. Brian O'Grady was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.
Jun 11, 2021
Could return as soon as Sunday
Grisham (heel) could return as soon as Sunday or Monday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has missed three weeks with a bruised left heel despite at one point looking set to return after a minimum-length stay on the injured list. He looks good in his first rehab game Thursday, doubling and stealing a base, and it doesn't appear as though he'll need many more before he's cleared to return.
Jun 11, 2021
Notches double, steal in rehab game
Grisham (heel) went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in a minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The contest was Grisham's first since going on the injured list with a bruised left heel in late May. Given the fact that he successfully tested the heel on his first-inning stolen base, the outfielder appears to be able to run without issue. He should be back with the big club shortly.
Jun 10, 2021
Begins rehab assignment
Grisham (heel) reported to Triple-A El Paso for a rehab assignment and is batting leadoff and playing center field Thursday, El Paso broadcaster Tim Hagerty reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old progressed to running the bases Wednesday, which was apparently one of the final hurdles before being cleared for a rehab assignment. Grisham last saw game action May 21 before going down with bruised left heel, and he shouldn't require a lengthy stint in the minors before rejoining the Padres.
Jun 9, 2021
Runs bases Wednesday
Grisham (heel) ran the bases at Petco Park on Wednesday as he prepares for an upcoming rehab assignment, Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
In addition to running the bases aggressively Wednesday, the outfielder has been hitting regularly in the cage and took on-field batting practice Tuesday, according to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. As such, all signs are pointing to Grisham feeling well enough to kick off his rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso soon, as previously planned. He could return to the Padres lineup within a matter of days, depending on how he feels after logging minor-league game action.
Jun 8, 2021
Beginning rehab soon
Grisham (heel) will start his rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso in the next couple days, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jayce Tingler said he's unsure how long a rehab assignment Grisham will require, but it may be a short one if he feels good. Once activated, the 24-year-old should return to being the Padres' everyday center fielder and top-of-the-order power bat.
Jun 5, 2021
Needs rehab assignment
Grisham (heel) will need a rehab assignment before returning from the injured list, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports from earlier in the week indicated Grisham had a chance to return from the injured list when first eligible Friday. That didn't happen, and while he was on the field going through sprints prior to Saturday's game against the Mets, his return still isn't imminent. Depending on when exactly his rehab assignment begins, he's likely tracking towards a return sometime in the middle of next week.
Jun 4, 2021
Not yet ready
Grisham (heel) is not back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets despite being eligible to return from the injured list.
ANALYSIS
Grisham has been working out for the past several days and appeared set to return from the injured list when first eligible, but he evidently needs at least one more day before he's ready to go. It's still possible he gets activated prior to the start of the game, but he'll be on the bench if that happens. Jurickson Profar will make another start in center field Friday.
Jun 2, 2021
Takes swings in BP
Grisham (heel) was spotted taking batting practice prior to the Padres' game Wednesday against the Cubs, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Since landing on the injured list last week with a left heel contusion, Grisham has felt well enough to take part in on-field drills nearly every day. The Padres haven't determined whether to send him out for a one-game minor-league rehab assignment Thursday, but regardless, the outfielder appears poised to come off the IL when first eligible Friday.
Jun 2, 2021
Can't return until Friday
Grisham's (heel) placement on the injury list wasn't backdated, so he's not eligible to return to the active roster until Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hasn't played since May 21, but the Padres' decision to bring Brian O'Grady back to the big club early after being optioned to Triple-A disallows them from backdating the start of Grisham's IL stint. According to the Associated Press, the outfielder has increased his running and could taking batting practice Wednesday, so it seems likely that he'll return when eligible Friday.
May 31, 2021
Likely returning Tuesday
Grisham (heel) has done extensive work on the field every day since going on the IL and is expected to return on Tuesday, assuming that the running he does Monday in Chicago goes well, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Everything is on track for a minimum stay for Grisham. The Padres play a day game at Wrigley Field on Monday, so hopefully we'll have some news on Grisham's status before the game in order to make our roster decisions for the week.
May 24, 2021
Placed on injured list
Grisham (heel) landed on the 10-day injured list Monday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hadn't played since exiting Friday's game against the Mariners with a bruised heel. He's now already onto his second trip to the injured list of the season, as he missed the start of the year with a hamstring strain, but he's been excellent when available, hitting .301 with six homers and seven steals in 36 games. Brian O'Grady will be called up to take his place on the roster.
May 23, 2021
Out again Sunday
Grisham (heel) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
The Padres will be without Grisham and Manny Machado (shoulder) for the series finale, but both are being viewed as day-to-day heading into the upcoming week. Jurickson Profar will cover center field in place of Grisham, who suffered a bruised heel in the Padres' 16-1 win in Friday's series opener with the Mariners.
May 22, 2021
Sitting Saturday
Grisham will sit Saturday against Seattle after exiting Friday's game with a bruised heel.
ANALYSIS
The issue doesn't appear to be a major one, with manager Jayce Tingler suggesting Grisham could be in the lineup had the injury happened during a different part of the season. Jorge Mateo will start in center field in his absence.
May 22, 2021
Leaves game with heel bruise
Grisham was replaced in the fifth inning of Friday's 16-1 win over Seattle due to a heel bruise, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. He went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs in the contest.
ANALYSIS
Grisham led off the bottom of the first inning with a homer to right field and got on base in both of his remaining trips to the plate. However, he was replaced in center field by Jorge Mateo in the fifth frame, and it was later revealed that Grisham was suffering from a bruised heel. The blowout nature of the game -- San Diego was up by seven runs at the time of Grisham's departure -- may have contributed to the decision to pull him from the contest, and manager Jayce Tingler was noncommittal about whether Grisham would play Saturday. As such, he should be considered day-to-day for the time being.
May 17, 2021
Notches seventh steal
Grisham went 1-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's victory over St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Grisham provided some breathing room for San Diego in the sixth inning, doubling in Patrick Kivlehan to extend the Padres' lead to two runs. He also swiped second base after reaching on a fielder's choice in the eighth, though the team was unable to cash him in. Grisham is tied for sixth in baseball with seven steals on the season.
May 16, 2021
Tallies three hits Saturday
Grisham went 3-for-5 and scored a run in Saturday's 13-3 rout of the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The center fielder batted atop the Padres' lineup and registered his first three-hit game of the season, pushing his current hit streak to six. Grisham has been a consistent source of multi-category production this season, slashing .305/.388/.492 with five homers, 19 runs, 12 RBI and six stolen bases across 134 plate appearances.
May 10, 2021
Triples, drives in two
Grisham went 1-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, a run and a walk in the Padres' 11-1 win Sunday over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Grisham filled the stat sheet Sunday, driving in two on an eighth-inning triple off Jose Alvarez. The 24-year-old has been a bright spot at the top of the Padres' lineup slashing .293/.369/.515 in 111 plate appearances. He is on pace for 20 home runs and 20 steals while batting just shy of .300.
May 8, 2021
Clubs fifth long ball
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to San Francisco on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham put the Padres on the board in the sixth inning with a two-run blast to center field. It was his first home run since April 22 and fifth overall this season. Grisham got a late start to the campaign after opening on the injured list, but he has been productive since his return, slashing .311/.386/.533 with 14 runs, nine RBI and six stolen bases in 24 contests.
May 5, 2021
Retreats to bench
Grisham isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Grisham had gone 1-for-7 with a stolen base, a walk and two strikeouts in the last two games. Tommy Pham will shift to center field while Jurickson Profar takes over in left.
May 5, 2021
Sixth steal
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a stolen base as San Diego fell 2-1 to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The steal was Grisham's sixth of the season which puts him among the league leaders. He's currently on pace for 30 and has enough power to be a true 20-20 threat.
Apr 26, 2021
Adds to stolen-base total
Grisham went 1-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in a victory over the Dodgers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The center fielder collected a clutch RBI when he knocked in a run with a single in the ninth inning. Grisham also swiped his fifth bag of the campaign as part of a double steal in the 11th. For his career, the 24-year-old is 15-for-16 on stolen-base attempts.
Apr 23, 2021
Homers, swipes bag
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went deep in the sixth inning off Walker Buehler for his fourth homer of the season, and the centerfielder continues to have a stellar beginning of the campaign. He's hit safely in all but three games this year and is hitting .318 with a 1.026 OPS, but his value hasn't been limited to just that -- he has stolen a base in four of his last seven games as well.
Apr 21, 2021
Swipes bag in loss
Grisham went 2-for-5 with one RBI and a stolen base in the 4-2 loss Wednesday to the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham swiped his third bag of the season and knocked in one run against his former team. In his first four games of the season, he batted .400 with three home runs, four RBI and six runs. Since then, he is batting .250 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Apr 20, 2021
Returns to lineup
Grisham (quadriceps) will return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers, leading off and playing center field.
ANALYSIS
Grisham sat for a pair of games while dealing with a tight left quadriceps, but he's ready to go Tuesday against his former team. He'll look to build on his .323/.447/.645 line through his first five games in his return to action.
Apr 19, 2021
Remains out of lineup
Grisham (quadriceps) isn't starting Monday's game against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was a late scratch Sunday due to left quadriceps tightness, and he'll remain out of the lineup for Monday's series opener against Milwaukee. Jurickson Profar will start in left field while Tommy Pham shifts to center field Monday.
Apr 18, 2021
Late scratch Sunday
The Padres scratched Grisham from the lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the Dodgers due to left quadriceps tightness.
ANALYSIS
Sidelined to begin the season due to a hamstring injury, Grisham looks to have picked up another injury to his lower half during Saturday's 2-0 loss. Though Grisham played all nine innings of the contest and went 1-for-3 with a walk and his second stolen base of the season, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune notes that the outfielder tweaked his quad at some point before the end of the game. Jorge Mateo was added to Sunday's lineup as a replacement for Grisham in center field.
Apr 14, 2021
Homers in third straight
Grisham went 1-for-4 with a home run, two walks and three runs scored in Tuesday's 8-4 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Grisham led off the game with a solo home run to center for his third long ball in as many games. The 24-year-old would end up walking in his next two at-bats and came around to score both times. Grisham has now reached base at least twice in all four games since returning from the 10-day injured list April 9 and is slashing .400/.526/.1.067 as the Padres' main leadoff hitter.
Apr 12, 2021
Takes seat Monday
Grisham isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Grisham had started each of the last three contests and went 5-for-11 with two home runs, a double, three runs and three RBI during that time. Tommy Pham will shift to center field while Jurickson Profar starts in left for Monday's series opener.
Apr 11, 2021
Goes deep again
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's fourth-inning blast gave the Padres a 1-0 lead and proved to be the games' deciding run. In three games since returning from a hamstring injury, the 24-year-old outfielder has gone 5-for-11 with three extra-base hits. He's been the leadoff hitter in each of those three games.
Apr 11, 2021
Cranks first homer
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a walk in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
In Grisham's second game back from the injured list, he hammered his first home run of the season off Wes Benjamin in the seventh inning. The outfielder has multiple hits in back-to-back games and plays a pivotal role in leading off for the Padres. Grisham became a duel power-speed threat after hitting 10 homers and swiping 10 bags in 59 games in 2020.
Apr 10, 2021
Collects two hits in return
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored Friday in a 3-0 victory over Texas.
ANALYSIS
The big story after the contest was, of course, Joe Musgrove throwing the first no-hitter in franchise history for the Padres, but Grisham's return was an important secondary headline for a club that has been only middle-of-the-pack offensively in the early going. As expected, Grisham led off for San Diego, and he scored one of the team's three runs against the Rangers. The 24-year-old is likely to hit atop the order and play center field on a near-everyday basis moving forward.
Apr 9, 2021
Leading off in return
Grisham (hamstring) was activated from the injured list and is leading off Friday against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
It had been reported that Grisham was likely to return Friday, and now we have confirmation. With righty Kohei Arihara on the hill for Texas, Grisham takes his customary place atop the lineup, although he may see a lower placement or a spot on the bench against lefties.
Apr 7, 2021
Should be back Friday
The Padres are expected to activate Grisham (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list prior to Friday's series opener versus the Rangers, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
After his strained left hamstring responded well to simulated-game action over the weekend, Grisham is taking batting practice on the field prior to Wednesday's game against the Giants in what likely marks a final test of his health before the Padres sign off on his return from the IL. Once activated, Grisham could settle in as the Padres' leadoff man, providing a nice boost to an offense that recently lost Fernando Tatis (shoulder) to the 10-day IL.
Apr 4, 2021
Expected to return next weekend
Grisham (hamstring) took five at-bats in a sim game Friday and should be able to return for the Padres' series against Texas next weekend, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham went down with a Grade 1 hamstring strain during a Cactus League contest March 11 and was consequently placed on the 10-day IL to open the campaign. The 24-year-old appears to be making significant progress in his recovery and will likely come off the injured list shortly after he is eligible April 8. That would set him up to play in the Padres' upcoming three-game series in Texas. Grisham will presumably slot in as the team's leadoff hitter and starting center fielder upon his return.
Mar 29, 2021
Headed for IL
Padres manager Jayce Tingler said Monday that Grisham (hamstring) would open the season on the 10-day injured list, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Grisham has since resumed participating in simulated games since suffering a Grade 1 hamstring strain March 11, he won't be able to make it back in the Padres' Cactus League lineup before the end of the spring season. As a result, Grisham will be given some time off while he fully ramps up, but he doesn't look like he'll be sidelined for much longer than the 10-day minimum. Grisham's absence to begin the season should allow Jake Cronenworth and/or Jurickson Profar to pick up more work in left field, while Tommy Pham shifts over to center.
Mar 23, 2021
Plays in sim game Tuesday
Grisham (hamstring) took part in a simulated game Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham continues to make progress from a hamstring strain that has kept him out of spring games since March 11. While he's still not running at 100 percent, he has been getting live at-bats and has not been ruled out of returning in time for Opening Day.
Mar 21, 2021
Takes BP Sunday
Grisham (hamstring) took batting practice on the field Sunday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham hasn't played since he was removed from a spring contest March 11 and subsequently diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. His ability to take swings on the field Sunday represents an important step in his progression toward a return, and there remains optimism that he could be in the lineup on Opening Day.
Mar 16, 2021
Takes swings in cage
Grisham (hamstring) was able to take some swings in a batting cage Tuesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Outfield and baserunning drills will provide a better gauge of where Grisham stands in his recovery from a strained hamstring, but it's at least encouraging that he hasn't been shut down from baseball activities entirely. The Padres remain optimistic that Grisham will be ready to go for Opening Day.
Mar 12, 2021
Diagnosed with Grade 1 strain
Grisham was diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain Friday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham suffered the injury while running out a groundout Thursday against Cleveland. He escaped with merely the mildest category of strain, and the Padres are hopeful that he'll only miss a week. If that's the case, he should still have time to get back up to full speed by Opening Day, but even a minor setback could place that in some doubt.
Mar 11, 2021
Dealing with minor hamstring issue
Grisham suffered a minor hamstring strain during Thursday's spring game against Cleveland, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was removed from Thursday's game after pulling up in the bottom of the third inning while running out a groundout. Manager Jayce Tingler wasn't too concerned about the injury and said that Grisham will be evaluated again Friday morning.
Mar 11, 2021
Exits Thursday's game
Grisham exited Thursday's spring game against Cleveland with an apparent injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham appeared to pull up after grounding out in the bottom of the third inning Thursday, and he immediately motioned to the dugout. The nature and severity of the injury aren't yet known.
Mar 8, 2021
Enjoying standout spring
Grisham has gone 3-for-9 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, a stolen base and four walks thus far in Cactus League play.
ANALYSIS
Grisham smacked his first homer of the spring against the Royals on Sunday, and each of his three hits thus far have gone for extra bases. He also leads the club with five runs scored in exhibition action. Grisham is penciled as the Padres' everyday center fielder following last season's strong debut campaign with the club.
Feb 21, 2021
Reports to camp
Grisham was among the last of the Padres' position players to report to camp due to the Texas winter storm, Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham's preparation for the campaign is unlikely to be affected by his slightly late arrival to spring training, and he is now with the team and going through the usual arrival process. He figures to slot in as the team's regular center fielder in 2021 and should hit near the top of the lineup against right-handers.
Sep 27, 2020
Out of lineup Sunday
Grisham is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Grisham wore the Golden Sombrero on Saturday after hitting a walkoff homer Friday night. Perhaps manager Jayce Tingler felt Grisham was pressing a bit and needed a day off heading into the postseason. Regardless, Jurickson Profar will man center field and bat ninth against lefty Drew Smyly.
Sep 26, 2020
Hits walkoff homer
Grisham went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 6-5 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was San Diego's hero in Game 2 of the twin bill Friday against the Padres, hitting a three-run shot off reliever Sam Coonrod to give the Padres a comeback win against their division rivals. Grisham recorded knocks in both games of the twin bill, but he has been struggling of late -- the two-hit performance in the nightcap was his first multi-hit effort since Sep. 6, when he went 2-for-5 against the Athletics. Despite the recent struggles, Grisham is still hitting a decent .288 with a .847 OPS in 21 games this month.
Sep 23, 2020
On base three times Tuesday
Grisham went 0-for-1 with three walks, a stolen base and two runs in a loss to the Angels on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Grisham was the Padres' most effective offensive player in the loss despite failing to produce a hit. He scored both San Diego runs and collected three free passes while swiping his 10th bag of the campaign. The performance was in line with his recent play; despite going 0-for-13 over his last five games, Grisham has notched eight walks and three steals over that span.
Sep 20, 2020
Gets ninth steal
Grisham went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a pair of walks in Sunday's 7-4 extra-innings win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
It was after Grisham's third-inning walk when he stole second, but he wasn't able to get home. He's now 0-for-12 in his last four games, but he's drawn five walks, notched an RBI and scored two runs with two stolen bases in that span. The outfielder has nine steals, nine homers, 37 runs scored and 22 RBI through 54 contests overall.
Sep 19, 2020
Swipes eighth base
Grisham went 0-for3 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base while scoring twice in Friday's win over Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Though Grisham was unable to register a hit in the contest, he made plenty of contributions on offense. The speedy outfielder helped generate a run with a walk and a stolen base in the third inning before coming home on a wild pitch. He then tallied an RBI on a fielder's choice groundout in the fourth and subsequently scored again on a Manny Machado home run. Grisham has reached base via hit or walk in each of his last 13 games, going 16-for-45 (.356) with four stolen bases and 12 runs scored over that span.

The 23-year-old Grisham has racked up nine homers, seven stolen bases, 20 RBI and 35 runs scored while slashing .272/.351/.484 in 209 plate appearances.
Sep 8, 2020
Another stolen base Monday
Grisham went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Monday's 1-0 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Grisham and Jurickson Profar orchestrated a double-steal in the seventh inning, but neither Padre managed to score. Notches another three-hit game
Grisham went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Saturday's loss to Oakland.
ANALYSIS
A recent move to the ninth spot in the order seems to be getting Grisham back on track as he has totaled three hits in both games since the move. The 6-for-8 stretch has pushed the 23-year-old's average back up to .261 on the season.
Sep 5, 2020
Tallies three hits
Grisham went 3-for-4 with a double, run and RBI in a victory over Oakland on Friday.
ANALYSIS
After spending most of August as the Padres' leadoff hitter, Grisham was moved to the ninth spot for Friday's contest. The move paid dividends as the 23-year-old notched his 11th multi-hit game of the season and drove home the team's first run with a double in the fifth inning. The performance snapped a three-game slump in which Grisham went 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts.

The first of his long balls came leading off the bottom half of the first inning, and he added a three-run shot in the second and a two-run blast in the seventh. Both the home run and RBI total were career-highs for the 23-year-old, who entered the game with 10 homers and 32 RBI in 79 career big-league contests. He got off to a strong start to the season but has cooled off in recent days, going 4-for-26 (.154) with a .545 OPS in his last eight games.

The 23-year-old has reached base in all but one game this season and is slashing a solid .271/.386/.604 overall. From a fantasy perspective, he has been a superb multi-category contributor with four home runs, three steals and 11 runs scored on the season.

Likely to crack Opening Day lineup
Grisham will likely be included in the Padres' lineup for the season opener Friday against the Diamondbacks, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grisham is locked in as everyday player against right-handed pitching, and though the 23-year-old may occasionally find himself on the bench against select lefties, Cassavell believes Grisham has made a strong enough of an impression between spring training and summer camp to crack the starting nine Friday versus southpaw Madison Bumgarner. The Padres face another lefty in the second game of the series (Robbie Ray), so if San Diego manager Jayce Tingler is reluctant to give Grisham back-to-back starts against southpaws, Edward Olivares could enter the lineup in Grisham's stead.

Cements everyday role
Grisham's solid spring has him poised to be the Padres' regular center fielder, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
San Diego entered Cactus League play with a glaring need in center field following the trade of Manuel Margot to Tampa Bay in early February. Grisham appears to have taken control of the position with a strong spring in which he slashed .355/.394/.484 with a home run, double and stolen base while impressing defensively. It bears mentioning that Grisham played only 21 games in center field with Milwaukee last season, so he'll need to carry his Cactus League success into the regular season in order to maintain a starting role.

Could be everyday center fielder
Grisham is being considered for a non-platoon spot as the Padres' center fielder, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With the offseason trade of Manuel Margot, the center field position is up for grabs in San Diego. Though the Padres have a number of options to fill the role and could take a platoon approach, Grisham has hit well enough against lefties in the minors to be worth a look as an everyday starter. Of course, he'll need to prove that he can hit southpaws at the major-league level after batting only .219 against them last season.
