Handles bulk role
Holton allowed a run on two hits and struck out two without walking a batter over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Alex Faedo (finger) was initially lined up for bulk innings Tuesday, but he was placed on the injured list. Holton did a decent job in his longest outing of the season, limiting the damage to J.D. Martinez's fourth-inning solo home run. Holton has pitched well this year with a 2.13 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 70:17 K:BB through 80.1 innings over 55 appearances (one start). He could continue to be an option as a bulk reliever over the final two weeks of the season.

Notches first save
Holton picked up the save in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Pirates, striking out one over one-third of a scoreless inning.
ANALYSIS
Holton entered the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Pirates tried to mount a late comeback, down three with the bases loaded. After getting down to a full count, the lefty then managed to strike out Ke'Bryan Hayes looking on a changeup to slam the door on Pittsburgh and record his first save of the season. It was a nice bounceback effort for Holton after blowing a save in his last appearance and he's now recorded at least one strikeout in four straight outings.

Holton will start for the Tigers on Thursday in Philadelphia, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Reese Olson had been on tap to start Wednesday before the game was postponed due to air quality conditions and now the Tigers have decided to go with Holton for the makeup game. It will be the first major-league start for Holton, who has a 2.32 ERA in 17 relief appearances.

Will miss out on Opening Day roster
The Tigers will option Holton to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Holton appeared to be in decent standing for a bullpen spot throughout most of camp, but he'll end up beginning the season in the minors with the Tigers opting to include non-roster invitees Trey Wingenter and Chasen Shreve in the Opening Day bullpen. The 26-year-old southpaw should be Detroit's top choice for a call-up if the team requires an extra lefty arm out of the bullpen at any point this season.

Roster spot looks more secure
With Will Vest optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Holton seems to stand a better chance of making Detroit's Opening Day roster.
ANALYSIS
Vest pitched in 59 games for the Tigers last season, but he'll begin the year with the Mud Hens, which could open up a spot in the majors for Holton. The lefty appeared in 10 games with Arizona in 2022, posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across nine innings. He'll likely be a low-leverage option at best, though he could be useful against left-handed hitters.

Claimed by Detroit
The Tigers claimed Holton off waivers from Arizona on Friday
ANALYSIS
After being DFA'd by Arizona to free a spot for Andrew Chafin, Holton will now compete for a spot in the Tigers' bullpen. The 26-year-old lefty made 10 appearances for the D-backs last season, posting a 3.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through nine frames. Casey Mize (elbow/back) was placed on the 60-day IL to make room for Holton on the 40-man roster.

Designated for assignment
Holton was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
As a result of the team officially signing Andrew Chafin, Holton was removed from the 40-man roster. The left-hander will now either get claimed by another team, be released outright or remain with Triple-A Reno, the last of which seems the most likely. Overall, Holton appeared 10 games with the Diamondbacks in 2022, allowing three runs over nine innings while recording six strikeouts.

Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old was sent to Reno in late August but will rejoin the big club Wednesday with Ryne Nelson (shoulder) headed to the injured list. Holton has pitched in 10 games for Arizona this year and has allowed three earned runs with a 6:2 K:BB over nine innings.

Heads to minors
Holton was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Holton was called up by the Diamondbacks at the end of July and posted a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in six innings over eight relief appearances during his month in the major-league bullpen. However, he'll lose his spot on the active roster after Caleb Smith (finger) was reinstated from the injured list.

Recalled Saturday
Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Holton has spent most of the season in Reno and has recorded a 3.29 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 27.1 innings over 18 relief appearances in the minors. The southpaw should pitch mainly in low-leverage situations but will be able to handle multi-inning outings if needed.

Optioned to Triple-A

ANALYSIS
Holton tossed two scoreless innings as a reliever against the Dodgers on Friday, but he'll head back to the minors a day later. Kyle Nelson was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list as part of a corresponding move.

Back with big club
Holton was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Holton had his contract selected by Arizona in late April, and he was sent back to Reno a day later after delivering a scoreless frame in his major-league debut. The left-hander has struggled early in the season at Triple-A this year with a 5.65 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB across 14.1 innings.
