Could platoon with Kelenic
Grissom could platoon in left field with Jarred Kelenic while also serving as Atlanta's top reserve infielder, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta wants to get Grissom's bat in the lineup, they just need to find a spot for him. He is playing left field in the Puerto Rican winter league beginning this month, and it seems like he and the lefty-hitting Kelenic will be legitimately competing for at-bats this season. General manager Alex Anthopoulos told reporters Sunday that Kelenic's arrival from Seattle signals an end to their left-field pursuits this winter. If any of Atlanta's infielders get injured, the righty-hitting Grissom could step into more playing time.

Could be moved to left field
Atlanta general manager Alex Anthopoulos said Wednesday that the team is considering moving Grissom to left field, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Grissom has only played shortstop, second base and third base as a professional, but all of those positions are spoken for long term at the major-league level. Atlanta wants to find a clearer path for the 22-year-old, who slashed .330/.419/.501 across 468 plate appearances this past season with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Oct 6, 2023
Will be on NLDS roster
Grissom will be part of Atlanta's roster for the NLDS against the Phillies, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Grissom posted a weak .659 OPS over 80 major-league plate appearances during the regular season, but he had a .921 OPS in 468 plate appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett. The talented 22-year-old infielder can function as a useful pinch-runner, bench bat and possible defensive replacement in Atlanta's best-of-five NLDS matchup versus Philadelphia.

Returns from MiLB IL
Grissom (hip) was activated from the 7-day injured list Thursday, per the MiLB's transactions log.
ANALYSIS
Grissom ended up on the injured list Sept. 11 due to a right hip injury, but it ended up being a short absence for the second baseman. He's slashing .332/.421/.505 with eight homers, 60 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 72 runs scored over 96 contests so far this year.

Lands on Triple-A injured list
Triple-A Gwinnett placed Grissom on its 7-day injured list Tuesday with a right hip injury, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With the big-league active roster expanding to 28 men in September, Grissom would have been a candidate to return to Atlanta at some point during the final month of the season, but the hip injury could end up thwarting those plans. After a promising showing in his first taste of the majors in the second half of last season, Grissom missed out on a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster and has logged just 80 plate appearances in the big leagues in 2023.
Aug 28, 2023
Headed back to minors
Grissom was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Grissom made just two starts after taking Ozzie Albies' spot on the roster when the latter landed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. With Albies now back in the fold, Grissom will return to Gwinnett to play regularly.
Aug 21, 2023
First start since recall
Grissom is starting at second base and batting ninth in Monday's game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta faced right-handers for the first six games after Ozzie Albies (hamstring) went on the injured list and Nicky Lopez started at second base for all of them. They'll going up against a lefty Monday, though, so it's finally Grissom's turn to handle the keystone. Grissom is 0-for-2 in two pinch-hitting appearances since being recalled.
Aug 18, 2023
On bench again Friday
Grissom is absent from the lineup for Friday's game versus the Giants.
ANALYSIS
It's Atlanta's third game since Grissom was recalled from Triple- A Gwinnett and he has yet to see any action as the team continues to roll with Nicky Lopez at second base while Ozzie Albies (hamstring) is out. Atlanta has faced a righty in all three contests, so it's possible Grissom will draw some starts versus lefties, but he's definitely lower than Lopez in the pecking order against right-handers for the time being.
Aug 15, 2023
Headed back to majors
Grissom is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Ozzie Albies' (hamstring) spot on the roster, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear how much time Albies will miss with a left hamstring injury, but it will be at least a week and a half. Grissom hasn't done much in his brief time in the majors this season but has been excellent at Gwinnett, sporting a .327/.412/.494 batting line with six homers and 11 stolen bases. He should see some action at second base while Albies is out -- perhaps against lefties -- but might be second in line to Nicky Lopez versus right-handers.
May 7, 2023
Heads back to minors
Atlanta optioned Grissom to Triple-A Gwinnett following Saturday's 5-4 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Grissom's run as Atlanta's everyday shortstop -- and his time on the 26-man active roster -- will come to an end after the big club reinstated Orlando Arcia (wrist) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Despite having not played in a game since April 12, Arcia was activated without requiring a minor-league assignment beforehand, which likely speaks to the team's desire to get a natural shortstop back in the mix. Swanson batted a respectable .277 following his April 14 call-up, but he walked at just a three percent rate and produced only two extra- base hits in his 70 plate appearances while also accounting for a minus-2.8 Ultimate Zone Rating over 158 innings at shortstop.
May 1, 2023
Rests for second doubleheader game
Grissom is out of the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Grissom will get a breather after he went 1-for-4 and committed a throwing error in Atlanta's 9-8 win in the opening game of the day. Ehire Adrianza will fill in for Grissom at shortstop, ending the latter's streak of five consecutive starts.
Apr 24, 2023
Sits after lackluster run of starts
Grissom is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
For the first time since being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on April 14 in the wake of top shortstop Orlando Arcia (wrist) landing on the injured list, Grissom will get a day off. Ehire Adrianza will fill in at shortstop in place of Grissom, who slashed .273/.314/.303 with one extra-base hit (a double) and no stolen bases during his nine-game run in the starting lineup.
Apr 17, 2023
Getting fourth straight start
Grissom will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Monday's game in San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Grissom has produced hits in each of his first three starts since being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. While Orlando Arcia (wrist) remains on the injured list for the foreseeable future, Grissom looks like he'll be locked in as Atlanta's full-time starter at shortstop, despite the organization's concerns about his defense.
Apr 15, 2023
Roller coaster season debut
Grissom went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Friday's win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old's season debut with Atlanta was an adventure, to say the least. Grissom ripped an RBI double down the first-base line on the first pitch he saw from Brady Singer, but he also committed a fielding error when he double-clutched on a grounder by Bobby Witt, and almost got charged with a second error while trying to turn a double play after Charlie Morton couldn't find his relay throw from second base. Grissom then somewhat redeemed himself defensively by ranging far to his left to retire Kyle Isbel and end the third inning. The young infielder has plenty of talent and exciting fantasy potential, but he'll need to show more consistency with his glove if he wants to stick around when Orlando Arcia (wrist) gets healthy.
Apr 14, 2023
Starting at shortstop Friday
Grissom is starting at shortstop and batting seventh Friday at Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Grissom was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday morning and has an opportunity now to take over as Atlanta's everyday shortstop with Orlando Arcia (wrist) hitting the injured list in a corresponding move. Grissom was off to a tremendous start this season in the International League, slashing .366/.458/.585 with one home run and two stolen bases through 10 games. The 22-year-old offers category-spanning fantasy upside and should be rostered everywhere.
Apr 14, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
Grissom was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett by Atlanta on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Grissom is set to take over as Atlanta's everyday shortstop with Orlanda Arcia (wrist) landing on the injured list. The 22-year-old has crushed it at Gwinnett this season, batting .366/.458/.585 with one homer and two stolen bases. His glove remains a work-in-progress, but Grissom showed his fantasy upside last season and should be rostered in any leagues where he's available.
Apr 13, 2023
In line for MLB return
Grissom will likely be recalled by Atlanta, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Orlando Arcia headed for the injured list after scans revealed a microfracture in his wrist Thursday, Grissom figures to be the primary option to fill in at shortstop for Atlanta. The 22-year-old infielder has been stellar at the plate with Triple-A Gwinnett, slashing .366/.458/.585 on the year, but problems with his glove kept Grissom out of the majors to start the season.
Apr 1, 2023
Mixed bag in Gwinnett's opener
Grissom went 1-for-3 with two walks, a triple, three runs scored and a stolen base in Gwinnett's Opening Day win over Jacksonville on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start at shortstop and hitting second, Grissom flashed the offensive talent that allowed him to make an impact as a rookie last year for Atlanta. However, he also committed a fielding error, and his defense is what kept him from winning the starting shortstop job in the majors to begin 2023. Braden Shewmake, who was also in the thick of the spring battle for that job, went 1-for-5 with four strikeouts and a walkoff three-run homer as Gwinnett's second baseman. If Grissom can demonstrate some consistency with his glove at Triple-A, he's still likely Atlanta's first choice for promotion should a spot open up on the big-league infield.
Mar 21, 2023
Defense at short remains priority
Grissom will see action at both shortstop and second base for Triple-A Gwinnett, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta wants Grissom to keep working on his defense at shortstop but also wants Braden Shewmake to show that his improved hitting in camp wasn't a small-sample fluke, so the solution will be for both to start every day at Gwinnett but rotate where they play out in the field. Orlando Arcia's starting assignment at shortstop in the majors seems fairly tenuous, so if either prospect gets off to a hot start at Triple-A and seems ready to handle a full-time gig in the majors, a quick promotion remains very possible. Grissom did display progress with his glove in camp under the tutelage of Ron Washington and went 13-for-35 (.371) at the plate with a 2:4 BB:K, and he remains the most likely long-term solution for the club at shortstop.
Mar 20, 2023
Will begin season in Triple-A
Grissom is being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett by Atlanta on Monday, Mark Bowman of MLB.comm reports.
ANALYSIS
Grissom was the presumed starter at shortstop for Atlanta to begin 2023 after his promising rookie season, but the 22-year-old will begin the season in Gwinnett after some shaky showings in the Grapefruit League -- particularly defensively. There's a good chance the Grissom will see playing time with Atlanta before the season comes to a conclusion, but he should be dropped considerably down fantasy draft boards since there's no guarantee when he'll be playing in the majors this year.
Mar 19, 2023
Still not seeing action in field
Grissom got the start at DH on Saturday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored in a Grapefruit League game against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
That's now four straight days in which Grissom hasn't made an appearance at shortstop, an ominous sign for a player whose defense was seen as the biggest obstacle between him and the starting assignment on Opening Day. He's done everything he needs to do at the plate this spring, however, going 10-for-31 (.323) with a 2:3 BB:K, so the only question now is whether Atlanta prefers Grissom's bat or Braden Shewmake's glove. Whichever young shortstop doesn't win the starting gig will open the season at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Mar 18, 2023
May not make Opening Day roster
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker hinted Saturday that Grissom is not a lock to make the Opening Day roster, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"We're going to take one of the two (Braden Shewmake or Grissom) more than likely," Snitker said. "We'll see who we leave with in a couple of weeks." Grissom was the presumed starter coming into spring camp, and while he's hit .321 with a .737 OPS in 32 plate appearances, he's had defensive issues, and Shewmake has impressed during Grapefruit League play. There's a good chance Grissom wins the job or is up early even if he does not, but obviously this puts a major damper on his fantasy stock coming into the 2023 campaign.
Mar 17, 2023
Losing grip on shortstop job?
Grissom is not starting for Atlanta for the third straight Grapefruit League game Friday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Grissom is healthy and is expected to play Saturday, per manager Brian Snitker. It seems notable that he's started just two of the last seven games at shortstop, though, while Braden Shewmake gets another start there. Shewmake has been Atlanta's best defender at short this spring and has also posted an .805 OPS. It's not clear whether he might be pushing Grissom for the starting job or just for a roster spot, but it's definitely something to monitor over the final 10 days of camp.
Mar 1, 2023
Looking good at plate
Grissom went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old got the start at shortstop and hit second in the order, but Atlanta has few concerns about his bat. Whether Grissom emerges as the Opening Day starter at short will depend largely on the progress he makes with his defense, but so far so good with the glove in the early part of spring training. If he proves to need more work with that part of his game, Orlando Arcia would get the nod while the younger infielder begins the season at Triple-A, but the job seems to be Grissom's to lose.
Feb 9, 2023
Could begin season at Triple-A
Grissom might begin the season at Triple-A Gwinnett if the Braves decide to start Orlando Arcia at shortstop, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In fact, Bowman predicts that Arcia will be the team's Opening Day shortstop and Grissom "possibly gains the job at some point during the year." Grissom's defense at shortstop has been questioned, although he's been working with third base coach and infield instructor Ron Washington this winter and reports have been glowing. Arcia would probably offer the more stable glove, though, and the Braves might prefer the better defensive option at the position given the strength of the rest of their lineup. It will be one of the more interesting position battles to track during spring training.
Sep 28, 2022
Loses grip on everyday role
Grissom is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Washington, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
For the third game in a row, the rookie finds himself on the bench against a right-handed starting pitcher, an indication that manager Brian Snitker views Grissom as a bench player. Orlando Arcia will pick up another start at the keystone at the expense of Grissom, who has slashed .163/.250/.163 with a 29.2 percent strikeout rate over his last 14 games.
Sep 27, 2022
Out of lineup again
Grissom isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The rookie infielder will get a second consecutive day off after playing in nine straight games for Atlanta. Orlando Arcia will assume his spot at second base and bat ninth.
Sep 26, 2022
Resting Monday
Grissom is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Washington, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After Ozzie Albies (finger) moved back to the injured list Sept. 18 following a short-lived return from his broken foot, Grissom has taken back everyday duties at second base. The rookie started each of the past eight games and went 6-for-25 with three walks, but he'll be on the bench for the series opener in Washington as manager Brian Snitker gives utility man Orlando Arcia a rare look at the keystone.
Sep 17, 2022
Back atop depth chart
Grissom figures to see everyday work at second base down the stretch after Ozzie Albies suffered a broken right pinky finger Saturday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Albies had just returned from a different injury, but this latest injury likely ends his season. Grissom has excelled in all five roto categories, hitting .304 with five home runs, five steals, 22 runs and 16 RBI in 31 games.
Sep 16, 2022
Will play some outfield
Grissom, who is not in Friday's lineup against the Phillies, will see time in the outfield corners, at second base and at designated hitter over the rest of the season, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ozzie Albies is making his long-awaited return Friday at second base, so Atlanta will have to get creative with ways of getting Grissom the playing time he deserves. The 21-year-old rookie has played exclusively at the keystone in the majors, but he has the athleticism to be able to handle left field, and he should start at second base on days when Atlanta gives Albies the nod at designated hitter.
Sep 16, 2022
Absent from Friday's lineup
Grissom isn't starting Friday against Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Grissom served as an everyday player for Atlanta over the last month but will retreat to the bench for the second time in the last three games. The 21-year-old will likely see decreased playing time down the stretch after Ozzie Albies (foot) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday.
Sep 13, 2022
Out of lineup Tuesday
Grissom isn't starting in Tuesday's game against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Grissom will get a day off Tuesday after batting .304 over the past week. In his place, Ehire Adrianza will get the nod at second and bat ninth in the Braves' order.
Sep 7, 2022
Four hits, two RBI in win
Grissom went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Grissom produced four singles Tuesday, most notably ripping a two-run base knock in the first frame, driving in teammates Dansby Swanson and Matt Olson. He later came around to score in the fifth inning after singling earlier in the frame. The multi-hit effort was his first in his last 11 games, but he now owns a .337 average with four homer, 14 RBI, 19 runs and four stolen bases over his first 92 career at-bats.
Sep 3, 2022
Pops fourth homer
Grissom went 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Friday's 8-1 win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
The rookie took Sandy Alcantara deep in the fourth inning, one of five Atlanta homers on the night and Grissom's fourth in the majors. He's cooled down somewhat since a blistering start to his big-league career, but over his last 12 games the 21-year-old is still slashing ,267/.298/.422 with two homers, one steal, five RBI and seven runs, and his 14.9 percent strikeout rate during that stretch doesn't suggest the league has figured him out yet.
Aug 31, 2022
Swipes third bag
Grissom went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a steal in Tuesday's loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta ran wild on Elias Diaz on Tuesday, as three different runners stole second, including Grissom in the second, good for his third on the season. Grissom proceeded to score on a Dansby Swanson double to get Atlanta on the board first. In 19 games, Grissom is batting .338 and has scored 16 runs. The 16 runs are good for eighth in the majors since he was called up on Aug. 10 and is part of the reason Atlanta has maintained pace with the Mets.
Aug 24, 2022
Three hits in Tuesday's win
Grissom went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old rookie continues a remarkable start to his big-league career. In 14 games since being called up from Double-A Mississippi to cover for a rash of injuries to Atlanta's middle infielders, Grissom has eight multi-hit performances, leading to an absurd .420/463/.660 slash line with three homers, two steals, 10 RBI and 14 runs -- all while hitting mainly in the bottom third of the order.
Aug 21, 2022
Pops homer in win
Grissom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Grissom responded to just the second hitless game of his career Friday with his sixth multi-hit effort Saturday. He knocked a game-tying solo shot in the fifth inning. The 21-year-old infielder has slashed .385/.442/.667 through 43 plate appearances, adding three homers, eight RBI, 12 runs scored and two stolen bases through 11 games. Grissom will look to hold down a starting role at the keystone at least until Ozzie Albies (foot) returns, which isn't expected to be until mid-September at the earliest. If Grissom stays hot, manager Brian Snitker may have no choice but to find a spot for his bat in the lineup.
Aug 18, 2022
Big day at the plate
Grissom went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and one steal in Wednesday's loss against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old continues to produce for Atlanta with two more hits, three RBI and his second steal of the season. He has hit safely in seven out of eight of the games he has played in this year with multi-hit efforts in five of those. The rookie also now has 30 stolen bases across all levels this season. He is looking like a stud for the Braves, and it will be interesting to see how skipper Brian Snitker handles Grissom and infield duties once Ozzie Albies returns.
Aug 16, 2022
On base three times Monday
Grissom went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored in Monday's 13-1 rout of the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The rookie hit eighth in the lineup but still carved out his share of the offensive eruption by Atlanta. Grissom, like Michael Harris before him, has provided a jolt of energy to the NL East squad since his promotion, going 9-for-21 (.429) through his first six big-league games with two doubles, two homers, four RBI, eight runs, a steal and a 3:5 BB:K -- not bad for a 21-year-old who had only 22 games of experience above High-A prior to making his MLB debut.
Aug 11, 2022
Stellar debut
Grissom went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a steal and an additional run scored in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Grissom was elevated from Double-A Mississippi before the contest and quickly made his presence felt with one of the best major league debuts in the modern era. The rookie took a first-pitch fastball from Red Sox reliever Darwinzon Hernandez deep over the Green Monster in the seventh inning, giving the Braves a commanding 5-1 lead. He also singled in the ninth and stole second before ultimately scoring on Dansby Swanson's RBI single. With Orlando Arcia (hamstring) expected to be sidelined for 3-to-4 weeks and Ozzie Albies (foot) still out, Grissom should garner plenty of opportunities during the stretch run.
Aug 10, 2022
Gets big-league call-up
Atlanta selected Grissom's contract from Double-A Mississippi on Wednesday. He'll start at second base and bat ninth in his MLB debut in Atlanta's series finale in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Grissom's promotion is an unexpectedly aggressive one, as he had appeared in just 22 games at Mississippi since being called up from High-A Rome on July 12. Due to his positional flexibility, Grissom will have ample opportunities to crack the starting lineup, though he will likely be most utilized at the keystone with Orlando Arcia (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list and with Ozzie Albies (foot) on the 60-day IL. Grissom showcased an intriguing blend of power, speed and contact skills between his two minor-league stops this season, slashing .315/.405/.494 with 36 extra-base hits and 27 steals in 442 plate appearances.
