Optioned back to minors
The Yankees optioned Gomez to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gomez made his major-league debut Thursday in Toronto and struck out four of the eight batters he faced over two scoreless innings of relief. The 23-year-old right-hander should be a consideration for the Opening Day roster next spring, whether in a rotation or bullpen role.

Called up for debut
Gomez was recalled from Double-A Somerset on Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Gomez held a 3.58 ERA and 78:37 K:BB across 65.1 innings of work covering 19 starts with Somerset this season to earn a look with the big club. The 23-year-old right-hander will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. Luke Weaver is slated to start Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks, so Gomez could be needed to eat some relief innings.

Reinstated off injured list
Gomez (shoulder) was reinstated off the 7-day injured list by Double-A Somerset on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gomez will make his season debut for the Patriots on Sunday after missing six-plus weeks with a shoulder injury. The 23-year-old has shown the ability to miss bats in the minors and registered a 2.49 ERA over 47 innings in the 2022 campaign, but there are durability and command concerns that might make him better suited for a relief role at the highest level.

Out with shoulder injury
Gomez is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Somerset with a shoulder injury, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old righty was seen as a high-upside prospect in the past, but durability has been a major issue, as he has never logged more than 56.1 innings in a season, and that high-water mark was back in 2019. Given that he is already on the Yankees' 40-man roster, it wouldn't be surprising to see Gomez transitioned to a full-time relief role in the next year or two.

Assigned to minor-league camp
Gomez was reassigned to Double-A Somerset following Monday's spring training game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Gomez appeared in two spring games with the Yankees before being sent to the minors to prepare for the upcoming 2023 campaign. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four across five innings while up with the big club.

Moves up to Double-A
The Yankees promoted Gomez from High-A Hudson Valley to Double-A Somerset on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old right-hander is scheduled to make his debut for Somerset on Thursday. After missing the first two months of the season while recovering from elbow surgery, Gomez was lights out upon joining Hudson Valley in mid-June. Over 10 starts at High-A, Gomez turned in a 1.93 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB in 28 innings.

Reinstated from injured list
Gomez (elbow) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Friday, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gomez underwent elbow surgery last August and spent the first few months of the season in recovery mode. However, he'll join the rotation at High-A Hudson Valley now that he's considered fully healthy.

Recovering from elbow surgery
Gomez had elbow surgery last August and should return for Single-A Tampa sometime in the first half of this season, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given this timetable, we can rule out Tommy John surgery, so it may have been some kind of cleanup procedure. Gomez is already 22 and has not pitched above Single-A.

Out with sore arm
Gomez has a sore arm and will miss the start of the minor-league season, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Callis says the Yankees hope Gomez will join an affiliate (likely High-A) in the near future, but given the nature of the injury, we should consider him out indefinitely.

Moves to minors
Gomez was optioned to Low-A Tampa on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Gomez was added to the 40-man roster in November and made one appearance this spring, notching one strikeout in a perfect inning against Philadelphia. He is likely a few years away from making his big-league debut.
