Though Murphy was named Louisiana-Monroe's starting quarterback for Saturday's contest, he ended up in a near 50/50 timeshare with Jiya Wright. Neither of the quarterbacks had success, each finishing with 10 attempts while combining for 86 passing yards and two interceptions. In four games this season, Murphy racked up 721 passing yards on 51 percent completion with a 4:5 TD:INT.

After logging back-to-back 300-yard games, Murphy got off to a terrible start against Southern Miss, completing just 41.2 percent of his attempts and throwing a trio of picks before being benched right before the half in favor of Jiya Wright. With Hunter Herring (collarbone) out for the season, the ULM quarterback situation could remain fluid for the remainder of 2023.

ANALYSIS
Murphy saw action along with Jiya Wright last week and ended up throwing for 320 yards on just 18 completions. The freshman will get the starting nod Saturday, while Wright will be relegated to the bench.

Murphy completed 18 of 33 passes for 320 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Saturday's 38-28 defeat to Georgia Southern. He also had eight rushes for -17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Murphy split work with Jiya Wright on Saturday, however, Murphy handled the brunt of the passing work, attempting 20 more passes than Wright. While Murphy could continue to lead the quarterback room next week against Arkansas State, it's likely Wright remains involved. Once Hunter Herring (collarbone) returns, Murphy and Wright should be expected to return to their usual reserve roles.
