Quiet day in defensive battle
Sullivan was 12-for-19 passing for 81 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 10-7 loss against Iowa. He also had 16 rushes for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
In a game in which just 17 total points were scored, Sullivan unsurprisingly struggled to get things going against a good Iowa defense. His lone passing score came on a five-yard toss to senior receiver Cam Johnson with just under two minutes remaining in the game before the Hawkeyes kicked the game-winning field goal with 14 seconds left. A road matchup against Wisconsin awaits Sullivan next week.

Starting Saturday
Sullivan will start once again on Saturday against Iowa, Pete Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The junior will start Saturday against Iowa. This will be his forth consecutive start for the Wildcats. Sullivan has logged 633 passing yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
Oct 29, 2023
Totals over 300 yards in upset
Sullivan completed 16 of 23 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 33-27 victory versus Maryland. He also had 14 rushes for 56 yards.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan put together the best all-around performance of his career, with highs in both passing and rushing yards. The junior signal-caller was called upon to start for the third week in a row in place of injured starter Ben Bryant (upper body). Sullivan cooled off after going 12-for-14 passing for 159 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, but he still showed strong control of the offense throughout the course of the game. This solid showing is an encouraging sign for Sullivan, especially after he had a subpar outing versus Nebraska in Week 8. He'll face probably his biggest test of the season if Bryant remains out against Iowa in Week 10.

In line for another start
Sullivan is set to start at quarterback for Saturday's game versus Maryland, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan will start in place of Ben Bryant (upper body) for the third straight week. Sullivan has completed 25-of-41 passes for 307 yards, two touchdowns and one interception across his previous two starts.
Oct 21, 2023
Expected to start against Nebraska
Sullivan is expected to start Saturday against Nebraska with Ben Bryant (upper body) not expected to play, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan started in Northwestern's last game before the bye in a win against Howard. He was effective but unspectacular with 131 yards passing for two touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. He's more of a rushing threat and less of a passing threat than Bryant.
Sep 16, 2023
Good to go Saturday
Sullivan (undisclosed) is active for Saturday's matchup with Duke.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out last week with an injury, Sullivan will return Saturday. The junior quarterback will back up Ben Bryant against the Blue Devils.
Sep 11, 2023
Expected to be available in Week 3
Sullivan (undisclosed) is expected to be available during the Wildcats' game Saturday at Duke, Inside NU reports.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan sat out the Wildcats' previous game but expects to be available for their next. Currently, he has three completions and four carries for 24 all-purpose yards across 2023.
Sep 10, 2023
Sits out against Week 2
Sullivan (undisclosed) did not play during the Wildcats' game Saturday against UTEP.
ANALYSIS
Unlike during Week 1, Ben Bryant (upper body) suffered an injury that required another quarterback in his place. But because Sullivan was also out, the Wildcats relied on their other quarterbacks to split carries. Ryan Hilinski, Jack Lausch and Cole Freeman all logged snaps at center Saturday.
Sep 9, 2023
Status uncertain Saturday
Sullivan is questionable for Saturday's game versus UTEP.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan will miss Saturday's contest after completing 3-of-4 passes for 13 yards and one touchdown in Northwestern's season opener. Ryan Hilinksi and Jack Lausch are candidates to receive backup quarterback duties behind Ben Bryant if Sullivan is ruled out.
Sep 3, 2023
Not starter for Week 1
Sullivan will not be the starting quarterback for Northwestern's game Sunday at Rutgers, Pete Thamel of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ben Bryant had been working with Northwestern's first team lately in fall camp, so it is not too surprising that Sullivan will start the 2023 season as a backup. Though it may not be immediate, Sullivan will look to earn opportunities this year, as he did in 2022, when he logged 71 completions for 589 yards and four touchdowns.
Nov 19, 2022
Out against Purdue
Sullivan will not play Saturday against Purdue.
ANALYSIS
Northwestern is down its top two quarterbacks Saturday with Sullivan and Ryan Hilinski sidelined. Carl Richardson or Cole Freeman are the next options for the Wildcats.
Nov 12, 2022
Forced out with injury
Sullivan was unable to take the field in the second half after suffering an apparent injury Saturday against Minnesota, Ryan Burns of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan completed nine of his 11 passes for 94 yards after starting Saturday's contest, but he appeared to suffer an injury while taking a hit before the end of the first half. While the exact nature and severity of this issue are still unclear, the sophomore signal-caller has been unable to return. As a result, Ryan Hilinski took opened the second half under center for the Wildcats before going down with an apparent lower-body injury himself, per Burns. With Sullivan and Hilinski both sidelined, Carl Richardson has taken over Northwestern quarterback duties.
Nov 7, 2022
134 total yards in loss
Sullivan completed 10 of 14 passes for 79 yards during Saturday's 21-7 loss to Ohio State. He also had 12 rushes for 55 yards.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan's production was extremely limited by the harsh weather conditions of Saturday's game, as he logged season lows in passing yards and completions. However, the sophomore signal-caller once again played a factor in the running game, and he finished as the team's second-leading rusher behind Evan Hull (30 carries, 122 rushing yards). Sullivan also exited after taking a hard hit late in the fourth quarter, though it's unclear if this will affect his availability for Northwestern's next game against Minnesota this coming Saturday.
Oct 31, 2022
Two TD passes in loss
Sullivan completed 23 of 30 passes for 159 yards with two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 33-13 loss at Iowa.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan improved slightly in his second career start, but Northwestern still had trouble getting their offense going as he averaged just 5.3 yards per attempt. The Wildcats are likely to stick with him as the starter as they look toward 2023, but he faces a tough stretch with games against Ohio State and at Minnesota the next two weeks.
Oct 25, 2022
Takes over as starting QB
Sullivan completed 18 of 24 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions during Saturday's 31-24 loss to Maryland. He also added 13 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan made his first college start as the Wildcats are looking toward 2023 and moved Ryan Hilinski to the bench. Sullivan sparked the offense to 17 points in the first half, but threw two crucial interceptions as the offense stalled in the second half. He has some fantasy upside with his ability to run the ball, but Northwestern's offense has tough sledding the next three weeks against Iowa, Ohio State and Minnesota.
Oct 22, 2022
Starting at Maryland
Sullivan will start Saturday at Maryland, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This game features backup quarterbacks on either side as Billy Edwards is taking over for Taulia Tagovailoa for Maryland. Northwestern's Ryan Hilinski is available but the team is making a change at quarterback and going with Sullivan.
Oct 10, 2022
Takes over for injured starter
Sullivan went 11-of-17 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown to go along with 10 carries for 33 yards and a fumble in Saturday's 42-7 loss to Wisconsin.
ANALYSIS
Sullivan finished Saturday's game in place of starter Ryan Hilinski (10-of-22 passing, 147 yards, 0:2 TD:INT), who was temporarily benched before returning and sustaining a possible concussion on the first drive of the second half. As a result, the 6-foot-3 dual-threat, who pushed for the starting job in fall camp, struggled during the first action of his collegiate career. Sullivan was strip-sacked on his first drive of the second half, though he later connected on back-to-back 21-yard and 41-yard completions to Donny Navarro and Byrce Kirtz in the fourth quarter. Expect the sophomore to serve as the Wildcats' top signal-caller while Hilinski remains in concussion protocol.

Close race for QB job
Sullivan and Ryan Hilinski are "neck-and-neck" in the competition for the starting quarterback job, head coach Pat Fitzgerald told the Daily Northwestern.
ANALYSIS
Hilinski was among a trio of quarterbacks who struggled last season as Northwestern had some of the worst quarterback play in the nation. While Hilinski should improve based on his play at South Carolina before transferring, Northwestern may want to change the page entirely and go with Sullivan, a three-star recruit who didn't play last year and enters his sophomore season.
