Awaiting MRI
Coach Jerry Kill indicated Monday that Pavia (undisclosed) is pending an MRI but is "cautiously optimistic" he could play in Saturday's game against Fresno Sate, Colin Deaver of KTSM 9 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Pavia was forced to leave the game early against Liberty in last week's encounter. The senior quarterback is questionable to play in the New Mexico Bowl on Saturday. If he is unable to go, Blaze Berlowitz would likely start under center.

Exits Friday contest
Pavia was forced to exit Friday's matchup against Liberty due to an undisclosed injury, Colin Deaver of KTSM 9 News reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear what happened to the Aggies' starting quarterback, though it's worth noting he had been playing through a nagging injury in recent weeks. Blaze Berlowitz will fill in for him under center, and he should be in for an extended run in case Pavia can't return to the game.

Has three turnovers
Pavia went 23-for-34 for 269 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against JSU on Saturday. He also ran 19 times for 68 yards, but lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Pavia had a tough game against a good defense, which almost cost NMSU the win. In the end, the Aggies emerged victorious, and Pavia is now over 800 yards rushing. This was the quarterback's first game with multiple turnovers since NMSU's third game, though that was against Liberty, its opponent in the conference title matchup.
Nov 19, 2023
Throws three TDs
Pavia went 19-for-28 for 201 yards and three touchdowns against Auburn on Saturday. He also ran eight times for 35 yards.
ANALYSIS
Pavia came into this game banged up, and that may have hurt his running numbers. It also probably did not help that he was facing an SEC defense, but the quarterback still did well, and helped NMSU pull off a major upset.

In full uniform Saturday
Pavia (undisclosed) is in full uniform and warming up ahead of Saturday's game against Auburn, Ainslie Lee of AL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a big development for New Mexico State as Pavia should be available to start after being dinged up in the Aggies' last game. He was considered day-to-day earlier in the week but now with kickoff approaching, Pavia is on the field and going through warmups.
Nov 14, 2023
Considered day-to-day
Pavia (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day, Colin Deaver of KTSM 9 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Pavia participated in New Mexico State's team practice Tuesday but did not go at full speed, hence why he is expected to be day-to-day moving forward. So for now, his availability status is questionable as the Aggies prepare to play at Auburn on Saturday.

Plays through injury, Week 12 status TBD
Pavia played through injury Saturday, and his status for the contest against Auburn is uncertain, Colin Deaver of KTSM 9 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Pavia completed 14 of his 24 pass attempts for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns Saturday, adding nine carries for 44 yards. Unfortunately, it appears a nagging injury is still part of the equation and his status for next week will be monitored throughout the week.
Nov 11, 2023
Throws two TDs
Pavia went 14-for-24 for 141 yards and two touchdowns against WKU on Saturday. He also ran nine times for 44 yards.
ANALYSIS
Pavia has been key to the best NMSU season in recent memory. He's on the verge of 20 passing touchdowns and got himself over 700 rushing yards on the season. However, he may have to endure a couple tough weeks waiting to go bowling. The Aggies end the regular season with games against Auburn and Jacksonville State.

No touchdowns in important win
Pavia went 16-for-31 for 220 yards and an interception against MTSU on Saturday. He also ran 15 times for 67 yards.
ANALYSIS
Far from the best game Pavia has had this year, though he is now over 600 yards rushing and has run for over 60 yards in seven of his last eight games with only two fumbles in that time. What matters more for the Aggies is that they won, and are now bowl eligible, a rarity in program history.

Touchdowns two ways
Pavia went 10-for-19 for 95 yards and a touchdown and ran 12 times for 67 yards and a score Tuesday against La Tech.
ANALYSIS
Pavia is not exactly running the Air Raid, but even for him a mere 95 yards passing is not ideal. However, he's run for five touchdowns over his last four games, he's turned the ball over once in his last six games, and the Aggies are bowl eligible already. That'll work.
Oct 19, 2023
Is the offense once again
Pavia went 15-for-25 for 186 yards and two touchdowns against UTEP on Wednesday. He also ran 14 times for 96 yards and two scores.
ANALYSIS
The Aggies scored 28 points in this game, so you can do the math. Pavia is effectively the offense for NMSU, and he's been particularly good on the ground. Through eight starts he has 527 yards and four touchdowns rushing, making him a true dual threat under center.

Carries NMSU to win
Pavia went 20-for-36 for 286 yards and two touchdowns against Sam Houston on Wednesday. He also ran 15 times for 115 yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
Pavia was responsible in some form for all three touchdowns NMSU scored in the win over the admittedly winless Bearkats. While his passing numbers never wow, the quarterback is a true weapon on the ground. He's ran the ball 75 times for 431 yards and two scores across seven games.
Oct 5, 2023
Totals three TDs, INT
Pavia went 20-for-31 for 256 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against FIU on Wednesday. He also ran 11 times for 46 yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
Pavia is dealing with some off-the-field murmurs, but he got the start here and produced. This is his first rushing TD of 2023, but he had six last season, and he's run for 316 yards this year as well.
Oct 4, 2023
Expected to start Wednesday
Pavia is expected to start under center Wednesday versus FIU despite his alleged involvement in an incident at New Mexico earlier this year, College football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
ANALYSIS
Per McMurphy, any punishment for Pavia stemming from the incident will be handled internally, so it sounds as if the signal-caller will have the green light to play. Should he be forced to miss any future action because of the incident, Eli Stowers would likely receive the starting nod under center.

Throws two TDs
Pavia went 9-for-15 for 155 yards and two touchdowns against Hawaii on Saturday. He also ran 12 times for 97 yards.
ANALYSIS
This is sort of the upper level of what we can expect from Pavia. In this offense, he won't throw the ball much (and his receivers are quite poor), but he hits some big plays, and he can do damage with his legs. This is Pavia's second game in a row with over 95 yards rushing.
Sep 17, 2023
Throws two TDs
Pavia went 9-for-14 for 203 yards and two touchdowns against UNM on Saturday. He also ran 11 times for 96 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Aggies do not like to throw the ball, and Pavia has not been efficient on that front. He's also turnover prone, as he's managed six turnovers against eight touchdowns. On the other hand, the running skill is real, as he tallied 508 yards and six scores on the ground in 2022.

Two TDs, two turnovers
Pavia went 12-for-21 for 150 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions against Liberty on Saturday. He also ran nine times for 65 yards, but lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Pavia tore up Western Illinois, but in his two starts against FBS teams this year he has four touchdowns, four interceptions, and two lost fumbles. He was the guy for the Aggies in 2022, but the turnovers are going to put pressure on him.
Sep 3, 2023
Throws two TDs
Pavia went 16-for-20 for 317 yards and two touchdowns against Western Illinois on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Pavia's season opener against UMass was a little dodgy, if eventful,so it is nice to see him so efficient. Yes, it was an FCS opponent, but this was a step in the right direction.
Aug 26, 2023
Busy in opening loss
Pavia went 16-for-27 for 248 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions against UMass on Saturday. He also rushed 15 times for 27 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Pavia was at the center of the action for the Aggies on Saturday. It just wasn't always for the best. It's hard to get excited here, given that many saw UMass as the worst FBS team coming into the 2023 season, a distinction well earned. To have as many turnovers as touchdown passes in a 41-30 loss to the Minutemen is probably a cause for concern, even for an incumbent QB.

Set to start at QB
Pavia will start the season opener against UMass, the Las Cruces Sun News reports.
ANALYSIS
Pavia returns as the starter after throwing for 1.450 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games last season. He had just six interceptions. There's a training camp battle between Gavin Frakes, freshman Blaze Berlowitz and transfer Eli Stowers for the backup role.
Nov 16, 2022
Starting again Saturday
Head coach Jerry Kill said Wednesday that Pavia is in line to start Saturday's game against Missouri, Jason Groves of the Las Cruces Sun-News reports.
ANALYSIS
Saturday will account for Pavia's second consecutive start under center, as him and fellow quarterback Gavin Frakes have split time all season long with Dino Maldonado (shoulder) out for the year. Across New Mexico State's last two games, the junior completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 340 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. He also added 137 yards on 16 carries on the ground in that span, and he'll look to maintain his efficient play in Week 12 versus Missouri.
Nov 8, 2022
Will start Saturday
Coach Jerry Kill said Pavia will start Saturday against Lamar, Jason Groves of the Las Cruces Sun-News reports.
ANALYSIS
With Dino Maldonado (shoulder) out for the season, Diego Pavia and Gavin Frakes have been splitting time at quarterback. Pavia, who's a dual-threat option, will get the nod Saturday, though Frakes is certainly a candidate for playing time if Pavia struggles at all.
