Nussmeier completed 7 of 12 passes for 90 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 62-0 win over Army.

Nussmeier finally saw the field due to the lopsided score, tossing his first touchdown of the season as the backup to Jayden Daniels. There is only one remaining game of the schedule in which Nussmeier is likely to see extended action, barring injury. That would be November 18th versus Georgia State. Meanwhile, the Tigers have a bye before facing Alabama on the road in two weeks.

Nussmeier will serve as the backup quarterback Sunday against Florida State, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.com reports.

Nussmeier was competing with Jayden Daniels for the starting job during camp, but Daniels was seen as the favorite for the job. Daniels has officially been named the starter, but it's possible that the Tigers turn to Nussmeier at some point if Daniels struggles early on.

Nussmeier is currently locked in a battle for the starting spot under center for LSU, Glen West of 247Sports reports.

Nussmeier is expected to lose the battle to incoming transfer, Jayden Daniels, but the team has yet to name a starter for the 2022 season. The redshirt freshman appeared in four games last season, throwing for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Tigers. Nussmeier will continue striving for the starting spot with LSU as Week 1 draws near.

Nussmeier (ankle) was back on the field splitting first team reps with Jayden Daniels after suffering an injury a few days prior, TheAdvocate.com reports.

LSU risks burning Nussmeier's redshirt if he plays without a waiver Tuesday, so the expectation is that Tavion Faulk or Matt O'Dowd take over at quarterback. Nussmeier's presence for warmups suggests there's an outside chance that he does play, but he was reportedly doing less during warmup than Faulk or even wildcat quarterback Jontre Kirklin.

Nussmeier will not play in the Texas Bowl, Koki Riley reports.

Nussmeier is opting not to play in the game because it would ruin his redshirt status for this season. Tavion Faulk or Matt O'Dowd is expected to start in Nussmeier's stead.

Since the end of the regular season, the LSU roster has been hit hard by outgoing transfers and players who have opted out to prepare for the 2022 NFL Draft, leaving the team short on depth in many position groups. Quarterback is no exception, which has prompted the Tigers to make the prized freshman available for the bowl game even though LSU initially hoped to preserve his redshirt. LSU is still working with the NCAA in hopes that Nussmeier can keep his redshirt despite appearing in his fifth game Tuesday, but the matter may not be sorted out until the offseason. Nussmeier completed 29 of 57 attempts for 329 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions during his four regular-season appearances.

Interim coach Brad Davis indicated Tuesday that LSU is "working through things" in an attempt to allow Nussmeier to play in the Tigers' bowl game while retaining his redshirt, Brody Miller of The Athletic reports.

If Nussmeier is granted the opportunity, the freshman would presumably start the team's Texas Bowl contest versus Kansas State. Nussmeier has appeared in exactly four games this season, so another would put him over the limit to maintain a redshirt by NCAA rules, but it appears the coaching staff is going to bat for him in an attempt to include him in the bowl game. If it's determined he can't play and keep his redshirt, Davis suggested another quarterback, likely either Matt O'Dowd or Tavion Faulk, would get the starting nod.

LSU will roll with Max Johnson at quarterback down the stretch and Matt O'Dowd will ascend to the backup role for the Tigers. Nussmeier, a highly touted freshman quarterback, will enter next season with the chance to beat out Johnson for the starting job.

Nussmeier did not start Saturday against Arkansas but completed 18-of-31 throws for 179 yards, one touchdown and two picks.

It wasn't exactly pretty, but Nussmeier played most of the game in place and stead of Max Johnson. Both quarterbacks certainly appear likely to play against Louisiana-Monroe next weekend.

Nussmeier won't start Saturday against Arkansas but will see some snaps early and whoever plays better between he and Max Johnson early in the game will see more reps the rest of the way, Tera Talmadge of Pig Trail Nation reports.

Nussmeier was expected to redshirt but saw some time against Ole Miss in Week 8 and played well, completing seven of his 12 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. It's unclear if the freshman will see action beyond Saturday, as it would remove him from redshirt eligibility for 2021.

Head coach Ed Orgeron indicated that Nussmeier may redshirt this season, Wilson Alexander of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Nussmeier can play in one more game this season and still be able to take a redshirt. It's unclear what game that may be, but that sounds like the plan at this point for the Tigers.
