Jake Retzlaff Injury News & Updates

Retzlaff was 14-for-30 passing for 161 yards during Saturday's 40-34 overtime loss to Oklahoma State. He also had 11 rushes for negative three yards with two touchdowns.

Retzlaff added his second and third rushing scores of the season in a wild and rainy overtime loss to the Cowboys. The junior had the opportunity at a few starts as Kedon Slovis dealt with shoulder and elbow injuries to end the season. BYU is not bowl eligible, so their season is complete.

Retzlaff is the starting quarterback for BYU's game Saturday at Oklahoma State, BYU radio announcer Greg Wrubell reports.

Retzlaff will look to continue improving in Week 13. In Week 11, he completed 37 percent of his passes for 104 yards and a 1:2 TD:INT ratio against Iowa State. But in Week 12, Retzlaff completed 57.7 percent of his 26 passes for 173 yards and logged three touchdowns overall against Oklahoma.

Retzlaff completed 15 of 26 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Saturday's 31-24 loss versus Oklahoma. He also had 13 rushes for 29 yards with one touchdown.

Retzlaff had his best game of the season as BYU nearly pulled off a massive upset against Oklahoma. The junior signal caller had three total touchdowns, however, he also had three turnovers with an interception and two lost fumbles. BYU will finish the regular season at Oklahoma State.

Retzlaff is starting his third straight game Saturday with Kedon Slovis (arm) still not 100%. Retzlaff has not exactly lit the world on fire in his two games, completing less than 50 percent of his passes for 314 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He has added a solid 90 yards on 27 carries on the ground though.

Retzlaff didn't have a lot of positive plays against a tough Cyclones defense. He completed just 37 percent of his passes and was much more effective with his legs with 64 yards on 17 attempts. BYU has a tough matchup with Oklahoma next week, so it will be interesting to see if Kedon Slovis suits up or if Retzlaff gets another start.

Offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick announced that Retzlaff with start Saturday regardless of whether or not Kaden Slovis (arm) will suit up. Retzlaff also started last Saturday in the 37-7 loss to West Virginia and did not play particularly well, completing just 57.1 percent of his passes for 210 yards. He will look to improve on that outing Saturday versus the Cyclones.

Retzlaff is in line to start Saturday's game against West Virginia with Kedon Slovis hurting, Kevin Reynolds of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

It remains unclear whether Slovis will be suiting up for Saturday's contest or not, but the team has opted to air on the side of caution with Slovis apparently banged up over the last few weeks. Retzlaff has yet to appear in a game this year after transferring from Riverside City College, but he posted quite the impressive campaign in 2022. Slovis has struggled to get going over the last three games and so Retzlaff will get an opportunity to provide a spark to this Cougar offense.
