Bauer has decided to enter the transfer portal, per his announcement Wednesday.

Bauer broke out during 2023. He completed 163 passes for 1,881 yards and a 12:8 TD:INT ratio. Bauer also excelled as a rusher, logging 10 touchdowns to finish 2023 with 22 overall TDs. Having proven to be a top quarterback for a team, Bauer will look to enroll at a better school whose football program has much more national upside.

Bauer went 15-for-26 for 182 yards and a touchdown, along with a rushing score, against Toledo on Friday.

The loss prevented the Chippewas from gaining bowl eligibility, but Bauer made his case to be the starting quarterback next season by accounting for multiple touchdowns in the final four games of the season.

The former had a rough go as a passer in 2022, when he completed 59.3 percent of his passes for just 435 yards and a 1:5 TD:INT ratio. Bauer fared better as a rusher, having logged 53 carries for 312 yards and four touchdowns.

Bauer may split time as the starting quarterback with Bert Emanuel, SB Nation reports.

Head coach Jim McElwain suggested that Bauer and Emanuel may split the starting quarterback duties this season. Bauer appeared in six games in his freshman season, completing 59.3 percent of his passes for 435 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.

Bauer (undisclosed) is expected to be available for Wednesday's game against Western Michigan, Central Michigan play-by-play broadcaster Adam Jaksa reports.

Bauer missed Central Michigan's Week 11 matchup versus Buffalo due to an unspecified issue, but it now appears like he'll be able to give it a go when the team hosts Western Michigan on Wednesday. In his last two games played, the versatile quarterback threw for a combined 221 yards and a score, while he also added 218 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground in that span.

Bauer went 3-for-4 for 36 yards, along with 14 carries for a team-high 109 yards and two touchdowns against Northern Illinois on Wednesday night.

Bauer has seen significant action in each of the last two games, and he's topped 100 yards on the ground in both. He is in line to keep seeing solid work over the rest of the season.

Bauer went 18-for-25 for 185 yards with a touchdown and an interception, along with a team-high 109 rushing yards, against Bowling Green on Saturday.

Bauer took over for an ineffective Daniel Richardson, and led the Chippewas to 15 second half points. Who Central Michigan's starting quarterback will be going forward is now a question.

Bauer went 3-for-7 for 40 yards on Saturday against Penn State.

Starter Daniel Richardson (shoulder/collarbone) left the game, and Bauer finished a 33-14 loss for Central Michigan. If Richardson can't go next week against Toledo, Bauer would presumably start the MAC opener for the Chippewas.

Bauer completed one pass for 44 yards while adding 47 rushing yards and two scores on the ground Saturday against Bucknell.

Bauer got some action in a 41-0 win for the Chippewas. If a blowout happens the other direction next week against Penn State, he may see some playing time again.
