Wright rushed for three yards during Thursday's 17-7 defeat to Mississippi.

The backup quarterback was not needed during the 17-7 loss to the Rebels, as Will Rogers (arm) shouldered the bulk of the passing load, albeit with limited success. Wright had three passing touchdowns, three interceptions and three rushing scores on the season for the Bulldogs.

Wright isn't in line to start Saturday's game versus Texas A&M, Jack Byers of Rivals.com reports.

Wright hasn't performed particularly well in place of Will Rogers (arm) during Rogers' absence, and it appears the coaching staff will go with freshman Chris Parson at the helm after Parson saw some action last week.

However, he has added 123 rushing yards in his two starts the last couple of weeks as well.

Wright completed 16 of 32 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Saturday's 27-13 loss versus Auburn. He also had 14 rushes for 63 yards.

Wright has thrown for a touchdown as well as rushed for at least 60 yards in each of the last two games for the Bulldogs, both starts made in place of the injured Will Rogers (arm). The Bulldogs have a tough matchup with Kentucky next weekend, so whoever lines up under center may have a difficult task ahead.

The junior quarterback appeared in 24 games during his time with Vanderbilt, passing for 2,067 yards (184-333), 21 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Wright also rushed for 908 yards and seven touchdowns with the Commodores. The junior quarterback will likely look for a starting role with a new program next season.

The injury to Swann could be serious, so Wright could start at Kentucky next weekend and perhaps for the remainder of the 2022 campaign. Matchups with the Wildcats, Gators and Vols to end the season make Wright a less-than-desirable option to end the season, though.

Wright will get a chance to shine next weekend against another inferior foe in the form of Elon before likely coming back down to earth versus a ranked Wake Forest squad.

The battle to be Vanderbilt's QB1 has officially ended now that Wright has secured the position over Ken Seals heading into the fall. Wright may be lacking the leadership that Seals gained as starter in 2020 and most of 2021, but Wright has proven to the coaching staff that he is ready to take on this new responsibility.
