Moved to third string
Ashford has seemingly moved down to the No. 3 quarterback spot for Auburn, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The sophomore will be listed as Auburns No. 3 quarterback now after Holden Geriner has been bumped up to the backup spot. Ashford has logged 145 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interceptions this season.

Sees action in loss
Ashford was 3-for-4 passing for 22 yards and one interception during Saturday's 28-21 defeat against Mississippi. He also had eight rushes for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, starter Payton Thorne threw for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while also rushing for an additional 34 yards. Neither quarterback has been particularly consistent, leading to a likely continuation of the timeshare next weekend against Mississippi State.

Completes two passes
Ashford (undisclosed) completed 2 of 6 passes for three yards during Saturday's 59-14 win over Massachusetts. He also had nine rushes for 51 yards with three touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
Ashford could have sat out if Auburn believed he was not ready. But even as the Tigers thrashed Massachusetts on Saturday, their backup quarterback still attempted six passes to indicate his availability is no longer a problem. Ashford may have difficulty reproducing his 2022 stats (which include more than 2,000 all-purpose yards) though, especially if Payton Thorne impresses like he with 141 passing yards and zero interceptions did during Week 1.

Partaking in warmups
Ashford (undisclosed) is warming up ahead of Saturday's game versus UMass, Justin Ferguson of AuburnObserver.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford was termed questionable for the opener, but his presence in warmups would seem to suggest he'll be available Saturday if needed. Ashford could have some packages where he sees the field, but Payton Thorne will draw the start and should see most of the snaps under center.

Questionable for opener
Ashford (undisclosed) is considered questionable for Auburn's opener against UMass on Saturday, Justin Ferguson of AuburnObserver.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford reportedly practiced Tuesday but is still considered questionable. It's not clear what's currently ailing the quarterback, but Week 1 figured to be a good chance for the sophomore to get some playing time. If the Tigers take care of business against the inferior Minutemen, backups will likely earn some reps late in the game. If Auburn's offense does its job and head coach Hugh Freeze elects to pull starting quarterback Payton Thorne, Ashford should get some snaps if he's healthy. If not, third-stringer Holden Geriner would be next in line.

Not expected to be QB1
Ashford is not expected to be Auburn's starting quarterback for the Tigers' Week 1 game against Massachusetts on Sept. 2, Justin Hokanson of On3.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford and Payton Thorne, who transferred to Auburn from Michigan State, have been competing to be the Tigers' starting quarterback since the latter's commitment to them. Unfortunately for Ashford, it appears Thorne will be the one they choose for that position, though there is a possibility that decision can be reversed later down the road. But should Thorne excel, Ashford's production is expected to take a dip from his 2022 season, when he logged 123 completions for seven touchdowns and 1,613 yards.

Three touchdowns in loss
Ashford completed 11-of-23 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown at Alabama on Saturday, while also rushing 17 times for 121 yards and two more touchdowns in the 49-27 loss to the Tide.
ANALYSIS
The 121 yards represented a career high in rushing yards for Ashford, though the Tigers were clearly overmatched in this contest. Ashford has passed for fewer than 100 yards in three of the last four games. For the season, he finishes with 1,613 yards passing, 710 yards rushing and 14 combined touchdowns.

Somehow leads squad to win
Ashford completed 6-of-13 passes for 60 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions Saturday against Texas A&M, while also rushing 16 times for 47 yards in the 13-10 win over the Aggies.
ANALYSIS
Despite accounting for just 107 total yards and tossing two picks, the Tigers somehow still got the victory with Ashford under center. He should remain the starter against Western Kentucky next weekend despite his struggles in this contest.

Flashes rushing prowess in loss
Ashford completed just 7-of-22 throws for 75 yards at Mississippi State on Saturday, though did rush 18 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the 39-33 OT loss to the Bulldogs.
ANALYSIS
Ashford has rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns in the last four games for the Tigers. Though his passing remains a work in progress, Ashford's legs have kept him and the Tigers competitive despite the five-game losing streak. A date with another struggling squad in the form of Texas A&M should allow Ashford to run with gusto yet again.

Solid performance despite loss
Ashford completed 24-of-33 passes for 285 yards and a touchdown Saturday against Arkansas, while also rushing 19 times for 87 yards in the 41-27 loss to the Razorbacks.
ANALYSIS
This was Ashford's best all-around start for the Tigers, despite the stadium being told that Holden Geriner would be getting the starting nod prior to the game. The Tigers dropped their fourth-straight contest, though, and the days for coach Bryan Harsin may be numbered. It would be interesting to see what sort of effect a coaching change would have on the quarterback position. For now, expect Ashford to start at Mississippi State next weekend.

Working with starters in warmups
Ashford is warming with the starters ahead of Saturday's game against Arkansas, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Auburn announced Holden Geriner as the starter on the jumbotron but it's Ashford who is warming up with the first-team offense. As it stands, Ashford is likely to remain the starter for Saturday's game but Auburn could deploy multiple quarterbacks against the Hogs.
Oct 29, 2022
Possibly benched for backup
Holden Greiner was announced as the starter over Ashford versus Arkansas on Saturday, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford played very poorly in the last two games completing just 38 percent of his passes in both games combined. So it's not surprising that the team decided to make a change. However, Ashford was seen warming up with the one's pre-game so it's unclear who will actually start in this game. For fantasy managers, it may be best to just avoid this situation altogether.
Oct 16, 2022
Two rushing touchdowns in loss
Ashford completed 8-of-17 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions Saturday at Ole Miss, though also rushed 15 times for 35 yards and two touchdowns in the 48-34 loss.
ANALYSIS
Ashford's passing has been inconsistent to say the least, as he has been held under 175 yards passing in four of the last five games. However, he maintains his dual-threat ability, rushing for 310 yards and three touchdowns on the season. The Tigers have a bye before taking on an Arkansas squad that's allowed at least 35 points in three-straight contests.
Oct 9, 2022
Inaccurate in loss
Ashford completed just 13-of-38 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown Saturday at Georgia.
ANALYSIS
Ashford also rushed nine times for 52 yards, but the Tigers had difficulty getting much going against the stout Georgia defensive front. The task may not get much easier at ranked Ole Miss next weekend, though Ashford does appear to have a hold on the starting quarterback job for now.
Oct 2, 2022
Crosses 300-yard mark in loss
Ashford completed 19-of-38 passes for 337 yards, two touchdowns and one interception Saturday against LSU.
ANALYSIS
It was the first 300-yard passing outing of Ashford's career, though he did complete just 50-percent of his passes. While Ashford should remain under center at Georgia next weekend, a brutally tough SEC stretch is upcoming, leaving Ashford unlikely to succeed in the short term.
Sep 26, 2022
Rushing touchdown in win
Ashford completed 12-of-18 passes for 127 yards against Mizzou, while also rushing 15 times for 46 yards and a touchdown in the 17-14 OT win.
ANALYSIS
The Auburn offense is going to struggle this season apparently, regardless of who lines up under center. With T.J. Finley (shoulder) and Zach Calzada (shoulder) both unavailable, Ashford was only mediocre despite the Tigers ultimately earning the win. He is far from a sure thing against LSU next weekend.
Sep 23, 2022
Drawing first start against Missouri
Ashford will start Saturday against Missouri, Nubyjas Wilborn of AL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With T.J. Finley and Zach Calzada both sidelined with shoulder injuries, Auburn will turn to Ashford in its SEC opener. Ashford took the bulk of first-team reps in practice this week after completing 10 of 19 passes for 144 yards and a score while adding 29 yards on the ground over 11 rushes in the loss to Penn State. Per Wilborn, Auburn has given Holden Geriner some reps as well in practice and could be part of the game plan Saturday in some capacity.
Sep 17, 2022
Sees extended action
Ashford completed 10-of-19 passes for 144 yards, one touchdown and one interception Saturday against Penn State.
ANALYSIS
Ashford relieved T.J. Finley, who completed 11-of-19 passes for 152 yards and an interception. With Finley's struggles to date, there could be a full-fledged quarterback controversy with the Tigers. It remains to be seen who will start under center next weekend against Mizzou.

Continues battling for QB1 role
Ashford's coach has noted that he has greatly improved his decision making in practice, Justin Ferguson of AuburnObserver.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford will have to overcome T.J. Finley and Zach Calzada if he wants the QB1 spot, and it seems like he is working as hard as he can to make this happen. Auburn's head coach Bryan Harsin has discussed how much Ashford's decision making has improved, and also named him the player of the day at Sunday's practice.

Participating in quarterback battle
Ashford is one of four Auburn quarterbacks battling for a starting position this fall, AL.comt reports.
ANALYSIS
Ashford transferred from Oregon last offseason and has entered a competitive fight for the title of Auburn's QB1. The three other quarterbacks are T.J Finley, Zach Calzada and Holden Grinder, and Finley is the only returning Auburn quarterback. Ashford worked mainly behind Finley in the spring, but this does not mean he is out of the running. He ended up impressing his coaches in spring practice and took home A-Day MVP honors.

Enters transfer portal
Ashford plans to enter the transfer portal, James Crepea of The Oregonian reports.
ANALYSIS
A change at coach may be the reason that Ashford desires to leave Oregon. He will join many players in the portal as this chaotic transfer season continues.
