Ashford has seemingly moved down to the No. 3 quarterback spot for Auburn, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.

The sophomore will be listed as Auburns No. 3 quarterback now after Holden Geriner has been bumped up to the backup spot. Ashford has logged 145 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interceptions this season.

Ashford was 3-for-4 passing for 22 yards and one interception during Saturday's 28-21 defeat against Mississippi. He also had eight rushes for 27 yards.

Meanwhile, starter Payton Thorne threw for 100 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while also rushing for an additional 34 yards. Neither quarterback has been particularly consistent, leading to a likely continuation of the timeshare next weekend against Mississippi State.

Ashford (undisclosed) completed 2 of 6 passes for three yards during Saturday's 59-14 win over Massachusetts. He also had nine rushes for 51 yards with three touchdowns.

Ashford could have sat out if Auburn believed he was not ready. But even as the Tigers thrashed Massachusetts on Saturday, their backup quarterback still attempted six passes to indicate his availability is no longer a problem. Ashford may have difficulty reproducing his 2022 stats (which include more than 2,000 all-purpose yards) though, especially if Payton Thorne impresses like he with 141 passing yards and zero interceptions did during Week 1.

Ashford and Payton Thorne, who transferred to Auburn from Michigan State, have been competing to be the Tigers' starting quarterback since the latter's commitment to them. Unfortunately for Ashford, it appears Thorne will be the one they choose for that position, though there is a possibility that decision can be reversed later down the road. But should Thorne excel, Ashford's production is expected to take a dip from his 2022 season, when he logged 123 completions for seven touchdowns and 1,613 yards.

Ashford completed 11-of-23 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown at Alabama on Saturday, while also rushing 17 times for 121 yards and two more touchdowns in the 49-27 loss to the Tide.

The 121 yards represented a career high in rushing yards for Ashford, though the Tigers were clearly overmatched in this contest. Ashford has passed for fewer than 100 yards in three of the last four games. For the season, he finishes with 1,613 yards passing, 710 yards rushing and 14 combined touchdowns.

Ashford completed 6-of-13 passes for 60 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions Saturday against Texas A&M, while also rushing 16 times for 47 yards in the 13-10 win over the Aggies.

Despite accounting for just 107 total yards and tossing two picks, the Tigers somehow still got the victory with Ashford under center. He should remain the starter against Western Kentucky next weekend despite his struggles in this contest.

Ashford completed just 7-of-22 throws for 75 yards at Mississippi State on Saturday, though did rush 18 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the 39-33 OT loss to the Bulldogs.

Ashford has rushed for 282 yards and four touchdowns in the last four games for the Tigers. Though his passing remains a work in progress, Ashford's legs have kept him and the Tigers competitive despite the five-game losing streak. A date with another struggling squad in the form of Texas A&M should allow Ashford to run with gusto yet again.

This was Ashford's best all-around start for the Tigers, despite the stadium being told that Holden Geriner would be getting the starting nod prior to the game. The Tigers dropped their fourth-straight contest, though, and the days for coach Bryan Harsin may be numbered. It would be interesting to see what sort of effect a coaching change would have on the quarterback position. For now, expect Ashford to start at Mississippi State next weekend.

Ashford played very poorly in the last two games completing just 38 percent of his passes in both games combined. So it's not surprising that the team decided to make a change. However, Ashford was seen warming up with the one's pre-game so it's unclear who will actually start in this game. For fantasy managers, it may be best to just avoid this situation altogether.

Ashford completed 8-of-17 passes for 140 yards and two interceptions Saturday at Ole Miss, though also rushed 15 times for 35 yards and two touchdowns in the 48-34 loss.

Ashford's passing has been inconsistent to say the least, as he has been held under 175 yards passing in four of the last five games. However, he maintains his dual-threat ability, rushing for 310 yards and three touchdowns on the season. The Tigers have a bye before taking on an Arkansas squad that's allowed at least 35 points in three-straight contests.

Ashford completed just 13-of-38 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown Saturday at Georgia.

Ashford also rushed nine times for 52 yards, but the Tigers had difficulty getting much going against the stout Georgia defensive front. The task may not get much easier at ranked Ole Miss next weekend, though Ashford does appear to have a hold on the starting quarterback job for now.

It was the first 300-yard passing outing of Ashford's career, though he did complete just 50-percent of his passes. While Ashford should remain under center at Georgia next weekend, a brutally tough SEC stretch is upcoming, leaving Ashford unlikely to succeed in the short term.

The Auburn offense is going to struggle this season apparently, regardless of who lines up under center. With T.J. Finley (shoulder) and Zach Calzada (shoulder) both unavailable, Ashford was only mediocre despite the Tigers ultimately earning the win. He is far from a sure thing against LSU next weekend.

Ashford will have to overcome T.J. Finley and Zach Calzada if he wants the QB1 spot, and it seems like he is working as hard as he can to make this happen. Auburn's head coach Bryan Harsin has discussed how much Ashford's decision making has improved, and also named him the player of the day at Sunday's practice.

Ashford is one of four Auburn quarterbacks battling for a starting position this fall, AL.comt reports.

Ashford transferred from Oregon last offseason and has entered a competitive fight for the title of Auburn's QB1. The three other quarterbacks are T.J Finley, Zach Calzada and Holden Grinder, and Finley is the only returning Auburn quarterback. Ashford worked mainly behind Finley in the spring, but this does not mean he is out of the running. He ended up impressing his coaches in spring practice and took home A-Day MVP honors.

Ashford plans to enter the transfer portal, James Crepea of The Oregonian reports.

A change at coach may be the reason that Ashford desires to leave Oregon. He will join many players in the portal as this chaotic transfer season continues.
