Sitting out finale
Judge is not in Sunday's lineup against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Judge hit .284 with eight home runs, 19 runs and 19 RBI in 26 games in September. He will head to the bench along with Gleyber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton in the season finale.
Sep 27, 2023
Cranks two more homers
Judge went 2-for-3 with two homers, four RBI and a third run scored in Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
After Judge sat out of Tuesday's contest, he returned to the lineup with a bang Wednesday, driving in four of the Yankees' six runs with a pair of two-run homers. The 31-year-old outfielder now has five home runs in his last four games after hitting just one in his prior 17 contests. Judge is up to 37 homers on the season, tied for eighth-most in the league, despite spending nearly two months on the IL. He's batting .269 with a 1.029 OPS, 77 runs scored and 75 RBI across 445 plate appearances.

Steps out of lineup
Judge is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The reigning AL MVP will head to the bench after a run of 22 straight starts, though his absence from the lineup isn't a surprise given manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Judge's spot in the lineup will be determined each day as he continues to play through a toe injury. There's no reason for the Yankees to push the 31-year-old during the final week of the season with the playoffs already out of the picture, though it's unclear at this point if the club is considering shutting Judge down entirely.
Sep 25, 2023
Playing time in final week TBD
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that he will have discussions with Judge each day this week about the slugger's playing time the rest of the way, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone indicated Sunday that there were no plans to shut Judge down for the rest of the season, but he seemed less definitive about the possibility when asked again a day later. Judge is making a 22nd consecutive start Monday and has received just three days off since returning from a toe injury in late August. The toe isn't 100 percent healed, though, and with the Yankees officially eliminated from playoff contention it's possible the team and Judge will eventually decide it's best to shut things down. Judge is not expected to require surgery on the toe.

Makes Yankees history Friday
Judge went 4-for-4 with a double, three home runs and six RBI in Friday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
He took rookie Brandon Pfaadt deep in the third and fifth innings before launching a Slade Cecconi fastball over the right-field fence in the seventh. It's the second time in 2023 that Judge has gone yard three times in a game, and he's the first Yankee in franchise history to produce multiple three-homer games in a season. Despite missing about a third of the year due to injuries, the 2022 AL MVP has slugged 35 homers with 70 RBI in only 100 contests this season.
Sep 15, 2023
Snaps slump with grand slam
Judge went 1-for-2 with a grand slam and three walks in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader split with Boston.
ANALYSIS
Judge went 0-for-4 in the matinee but struck quickly in Game 2, following a first-inning walk with a grand slam in the second. The Red Sox mostly avoided him thereafter, walking the slugger in two of his final three plate appearances, including once intentionally. Prior to the grand slam, Judge had been mired in a slump that saw him go 5-for-34 without a homer or RBI over his previous 10 games.
Sep 3, 2023
Goes deep again Saturday
Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in Saturday's 5-4 victory versus Houston.
ANALYSIS
Judge belted his 31st homer of the campaign in the third inning with a 428-foot solo shot off Hunter Brown. The slugger has opened September with a long ball in two straight contests, reaching base four times in nine plate appearances during that span. However, strikeouts continue to be an issue -- Judge fanned three times Saturday and has registered a 40.3 percent strikeout rate over his past 16 contests.
Sep 2, 2023
Slugs 30th homer
Judge went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 6-2 win against Houston.
ANALYSIS
Judge produced the final run of the contest with his 426-foot solo blast to center field in the fifth inning. The long ball was his 30th of the campaign, marking the third straight year he has reached that total. Friday's contest was just the 81st of the season for Judge, as he missed nearly two months due to a toe injury. The slugger's 9.4 AB/HR this year is just shy of his 9.2 AB/HR last season, when he set an American League record with 62 long balls.
Aug 31, 2023
Taking seat Thursday
Judge is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Tigers, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge will receive a day of rest for the afternoon contest as the Yankees go for a sweep. He's struggled over the last week, going 2-for-23 with 14 strikeouts across his previous six games. Jake Bauers will play right field Thursday.
Aug 28, 2023
Swats 29th homer
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The solo shot gave Judge his seventh homer in 10 games. However, the 6'7" slugger hasn't been able to record any other hits during that stretch, posting a .179 batting average with a 38.5 percent strikeout rate across 39 at-bats. Despite missing the better part of two months due to a toe injury, Judge is now just one home run shy of reaching 30 for the fourth time in his career.
Aug 24, 2023
Slugs three homers Wednesday
Judge went 3-for-4 with three home runs and six total RBI in a 9-1 win against the Nationals on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge came into Wednesday in the midst of a quiet August during which he was batting just .200 with a modest (by his standards) four homers and six RBI over 19 games. The reigning AL MVP made plenty of noise against the Nationals, sandwiching a second-inning grand slam around solo shots in each of the first and seventh frames. The three-homer game was the first of Judge's career, and the six RBI tied his career-best mark. Despite missing over 50 games this season due to injury, Judge has belted 27 long balls, fifth-most in the American League.
Aug 20, 2023
Homers again Saturday
Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to Boston on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Judge took Kutter Crawford deep in the sixth inning to break up a potential no-hitter. The long ball was the second in as many days for Judge, who is just over three weeks removed from being activated following a lengthy stay on the injured list. The slugger is slashing .250/.429/.500 with five home runs, eight RBI, 10 runs and a 20:17 BB:K over 20 contests since his return.
Aug 19, 2023
Goes deep Friday
Judge went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Though Judge's eighth-inning blast didn't make much of a dent in New York's six-run deficit, it may have helped him reset after striking out in four of his previous seven plate appearances. The slugger leads New York with 23 homers this season and is tied for second with 47 RBI despite missing over 50 games due to injury. Judge won't get anywhere close to the record-setting 62 long balls he blasted last year, but his current 10.2 AB/HR isn't far off his 9.2 rate during that historic campaign and would rank as the second-best mark of his career.
Aug 15, 2023
Won't need offseason toe surgery
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on the Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday that Judge will not require surgery on his right big toe.
ANALYSIS
Judge had indicated previously while he was still on the injured list that he might need offseason surgery to repair the ligament tear in his toe. However, it would appear that an operation isn't going to be necessary and the toe should heal on its own. Judge is sporting a .260/.456/.460 batting line with three home runs and five RBI in 16 games since returning from the IL.
Aug 12, 2023
Swats 22nd homer Friday
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in a 9-4 win over Miami on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Judge clobbered a ball over the centerfield wall for a 464-foot solo shot in the third inning. It was his second homer in his past three games and his 22nd of the campaign. Since coming off a lengthy stay on the injured list July 28, Judge has slashed .256/.473/.513 with three home runs, five RBI and seven runs. Pitchers aren't giving him much to hit, as he's posted a 29.1 percent walk rate (against a 21.8 percent strikeout rate) over that stretch.
Aug 9, 2023
Clobbers homer, walked thrice
Judge went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 7-1 victory over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Judge clubbed homer No. 21 Tuesday, taking reliever Tanner Banks yard for a solo shot in the eighth inning. After starting out August 2-for-20 (.200), Judge has hit 3-for-6 (.500) over his last two games and has reached safely seven times in 10 plate appearances.
Aug 4, 2023
Not in lineup Friday
Judge is not in the lineup Friday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Judge has mostly been serving as the Yankees' designated hitter since his July 28 return from a ligament tear in his right big toe. He still has some soreness in that area and will likely continue to need fairly regular days off down the stretch. Giancarlo Stanton is filling the DH role on Friday and Billy McKinney, Harrison Bader and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start across the outfield.
Aug 1, 2023
Playing through soreness
Manager Aaron Boone said Judge is serving as the designated hitter Tuesday against the Rays since the outfielder is managing some soreness in his toe, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the second straight day of DH duty for Judge, but there's apparently not much concern over the soreness since he's still in the starting nine. The 31-year-old is 3-for-7 with a home run, six walks, two RBI and two runs in three games since he returned from the injured list last week.
Jul 30, 2023
Sitting Sunday
Judge is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone previously indicated the reigning AL MVP would sit one game in Baltimore this weekend after being reinstated from the injured list Friday, and the skipper followed through on that statement after Judge started at designated hitter Friday and in right field Saturday. The Yankees don't have a scheduled off day until Aug. 10, and Judge is likely to sit a couple more times during that stretch. Jake Bauers will shift to right field Sunday while Greg Allen receives a start in left.
Jul 29, 2023
Clubs first homer since return
Judge went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Saturday's 8-3 victory over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
After missing nearly two months with a toe injury, Judge hasn't skipped a beat, reaching safely three times in both games since returning and hammering a two-run homer off Taylor Wells in the third inning of Saturday's tilt. The long ball marked Judge's 20th homer in 51 games and likely provided a much-needed boost to fantasy managers who have been awaiting his return. Though he looks to be back in form, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reported Saturday that manager Aaron Boone planned on having Judge play in only one of the Yankee's two games this weekend, meaning the reigning AL MVP will likely watch Sunday's contest from the sidelines.
Jul 29, 2023
May sit one game this weekend
Yankees manager Aaron Boone's plan is to have Judge play one of the two remaining games this weekend, either at DH or in right field, per Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media.
ANALYSIS
Judge made his return Friday after spending nearly eight weeks on the shelf with a toe injury, but be barely got to swing the bat. The slugger smoked a 104.4 mph lineout on the first pitch he saw in the first inning, then took a free pass in each of his subsequent three plate appearances, with his only contact over that span being a foul ball. Judge served as the Yankees' DH in his return, and he'll get another start there or in right field either Saturday or Sunday, though it appears that Boone will rest the reigning AL MVP on one of those days. However, Judge suggested he may push against that plan, saying, "l'm trying to play every one, so I've got to talk to (Boone)...I've got a lot of missed time, so I've got to get back out there."
Jul 28, 2023
At DH in first game back
Judge is starting at designated hitter and batting second Friday against the Orioles in his first game back from the injured list.
ANALYSIS
It's possible the Yankees will have him in the DH spot for a while as he eases back into action following a lengthy absence with a ligament tear in his right big toe. With Judge at DH, Giancarlo Stanton will patrol right field.
Jul 28, 2023
Makes return from IL
Judge (toe) was activated from the 10-day injured list Friday.
ANALYSIS
The expectation had been that Judge would be activated Friday, although the Yankees never confirmed the move prior to the transaction being made. It's official now, though, as the slugger will rejoin the lineup after missing the last eight-plus weeks with a ligament tear in his right big toe.
Jul 26, 2023
Expected to return Friday
Judge (toe) is on track to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Yankees manager Aaron Boone wouldn't confirm that Judge would be back Friday when asked Wednesday, but Sherman says that's the plan, barring any setbacks. Judge played in a simulated game Wednesday at the team's spring training complex in Florida for the second day in a row and reports of his rehab in Tampa have been "positive," per Sherman. The reigning American League MVP has been sidelined since early June with a sprained right big toe.
Jul 25, 2023
Goes through simulated game
Judge (toe) played five innings in a simulated game at the Yankees' spring training complex in Florida on Tuesday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The plan is for Judge to up the volume in another simulated game Wednesday. The Yankees are taking the slugger's recovery from a ligament tear in his right big toe day by day and it has not yet been determined whether he will require a rehab assignment. Judge has been sidelined since early June.
Jul 25, 2023
Headed to Tampa to continue rehab
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on the Talkin' Yanks podcast that Judge (toe) is headed to the team's spring training complex in Florida to continue his rehab.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been upping his baseball activities lately and looks to be trending in the right direction as he works his way back from a ligament tear in his right big toe. Among his activities in Florida will be facing fellow rehabbing teammate Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow). There remains no timetable for Judge's return to the Yankees' active roster, but it doesn't appear to be far off.
Jul 23, 2023
Set for more live hitting
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Judge (toe) will likely take more simulated at-bats in live batting practice in the coming days and is without a clear target date for resuming game action, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Earlier Sunday, Judge took two simulated at-bats against right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow) in what marked another step forward in the recovery process for the reigning American League MVP, who is working his way back from a ligament tear in his right big toe. Judge didn't suffer any setbacks during the workout, but he looks poised to get in a few more live BP sessions before the Yankees pinpoint a date for his return from the 10-day injured list. Judge could be send to a minor-league affiliate for a brief rehab assignment prior to being activated.
Jul 21, 2023
Facing live pitching Sunday
Judge (toe) will face live pitching Sunday, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
He will go up against fellow rehabbing teammate Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow). Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that, based on how Sunday's session goes, the team should have a timeline at that point for Judge's return to the lineup. The reigning American League MVP has been sidelined since early June with a ligament tear in his right big toe.
Jul 19, 2023
Running bases Wednesday
Judge (toe) will run the bases Wednesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the first time he's done so since he suffered a torn ligament in his right big toe back in early June. The Yankees and Judge have resisted placing a timetable on the slugger's return, but optimism is building that it could be soon. It is not clear whether he will need a rehab assignment before being activated.
Jul 18, 2023
'Getting close' to return?
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said on the Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday that Judge (toe) is "getting close."
ANALYSIS
Boone was asked whether the beginning of the July 25 series against the Mets was a realistic target for Judge to return and the skipper didn't rule it out. While certainly not a clear timetable, the proclamation does point to real progress as Judge works his way back from a torn ligament in his right big toe. The reigning American League MVP began taking batting practice last Friday and has also done some light running. Running the bases at full effort would probably the last hurdle Judge needs to clear, and it's uncertain when he might be ready for that. The slugger has been sidelined since early June.
Jul 14, 2023
Takes BP, does light running
Judge (toe) took on-field batting practice at Coors Field on Friday and also did some running, though not at full speed, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Last year's AL MVP seems to be making progress, but regardless he remains unwilling to talk about a possible target date for his return to the Yankees. While Judge said he did not feel limited in any way during his batting practice session, he's still wearing orthotic insoles to aid with the torn ligament in his right big toe. Manager Aaron Boone did not want to put a target date on Judge's return either.
Jul 14, 2023
Takes batting practice
Judge (toe) took early batting practice Friday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear whether it was a full-effort BP, but it's notable progress either way. Judge remains without a clear timetable as he works his way back from a ligament tear in his right big toe, but he's inching forward with his progress. The reigning American League MVP has been sidelined since early June.
Jul 4, 2023
Does some light hitting
Judge (toe) has begun doing some hitting off a tee and taking soft toss, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
That's in addition to playing catch which he started last week. Judge said Tuesday that he's walking around a little better but admits that his injured right big toe still "doesn't feel great." Surgery after the season is a possibility, per Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record, although he's ruled out having it in-season. While the reigning American League MVP is making some progress, it appears he's still quite a ways off from a return.
Jul 3, 2023
Will up activities soon
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that he expects Judge (toe) to incorporate additional baseball activities other than throwing prior to the All-Star break, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone wasn't sure what exactly Judge would be cleared to do, but any sort of progression would be welcome. The reigning American League MVP started throwing last Wednesday as he works his way back from a ligament tear in his right big toe. There remains no timetable for Judge's return to the Yankees' lineup.
Jun 30, 2023
Throws again Friday
Judge (toe) played catch in the outfield Friday in St. Louis, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
This marks the third straight day of on-field throwing work for Judge, who is traveling with the Yankees on their current six-game road trip. The big slugger has been out since early June due to a ligament tear in his right big toe and there remains no timetable for his return, but it's certainly positive news that he is now able to do some form of daily activity. He might be able to truly ramp things up next week.
Jun 29, 2023
Spotted playing catch Wednesday
Judge (toe) was seen playing catch on the field prior to Wednesday's 11-0 win over the Athletics, Michael Wagaman of the Associated Press reports. "There's a lot of steps we've got to take to get back to going on the field," Judge said. "So this is just another step along the way."
ANALYSIS
While playing catch doesn't represent a major step forward in his recovery from the ligament tear he suffered to his right big toe June 3, it's at least the first sign of activity for Judge since he sustained the injury. Rather than being able to run at full speed and move around in the outfield without issue, manager Aaron Boone said that the biggest test for Judge will be ensuring that he can swing the bat comfortably, as the toe issue could affect the slugger's ability "to torque and turn on that back foot." Once Judge is able to resume hitting without any restrictions, Boone said it would be a good indication that the reigning American League MVP is nearing a return from the 10-day injured list.
Jun 24, 2023
Has torn ligament in toe
Judge confirmed Saturday that he has a torn ligament in his right big toe, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's injury was previously described as a sprain, but it appears the All-Star slugger's injury is more severe than initially thought. Judge also stated that he still has pain when he walks, which is not a reassuring sign for fantasy managers. Now that we know Judge is battling a damaged ligament, he shouldn't be expected to return anytime soon.
Jun 22, 2023
Begins strength work
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Judge (toe) has progressed to pool/balance/strength work, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge seems to be progressing nicely after experiencing a "breakthrough" following his second platelet-rich plasma injection last week. If all goes according to plan, Judge should begin throwing and light hitting before the end of the week.
Jun 20, 2023
'Breakthrough' after PRP injection
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Judge (toe) experienced "a little bit of a breakthrough" after his second platelet-rich plasma injection, Deesha Thosar of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The first PRP injection Judge was given earlier this month didn't knock out all of the swelling in the outfielder's right big toe, but it would appear the second shot did the trick. While the slugger is not yet cleared for baseball activities, Boone believes Judge is "starting to turn a corner" in his recovery. Judge has been sidelined for a little more than two weeks.
Jun 16, 2023
Another injection for toe
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Judge got another PRP injection in his sprained right toe Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone also revealed that there's a second ligament -- beyond the toe sprain -- that has been bothering the Yankees' slugger. Judge landed on the 10-day injured list June 7, retroactive to June 4, and there is currently no timetable for his return. Or even when he might resume baseball activities. This absence seems likely to push into July.
Jun 13, 2023
Remains without timetable
Judge (toe) said Sunday that while he's "feeling better every single day," he doesn't "think there's a need for a timeline" for his return, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated last week that a timetable for Judge's return likely would be available following the weekend after the inflammation in his injured toe had time to calm down. However, it doesn't sound like Judge or the team will be setting a target date anytime soon. "Things like this take time," Judge said. "It's just such a unique situation. If it was like a hamstring or something with the shoulder, there's a little better foundation to know when to come back. We'll be back."
Jun 9, 2023
Not wearing walking boot
Judge said Thursday that the swelling in his right big toe is improving, and he has decided to not wear a walking boot, the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Fantasy managers who have been left with a massive hole on their roster with Judge's placement on the IL will take any good news they can get about the slugger, and this qualifies as a positive development despite the fact that it doesn't offer any clarity about his return timetable. The superstar outfielder recently received a PRP injection in the injured toe that left him "pretty sore," and Judge indicated that the team is waiting for inflammation and swelling to reduce before establishing a clearer picture of the injury's severity. Manager Aaron Boone suggested that the Yankees could have an idea of Judge's timetable by the end of the coming weekend.
Jun 7, 2023
Timetable coming after weekend
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the team won't have a timetable for Judge (toe) until after this weekend, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge is on the injured list with a right big toe sprain and is "pretty sore" after receiving an injection in the toe, per Boone. The club presumably is waiting for the injection to take effect before they have a better idea as to how much time the star outfielder could miss.
Jun 7, 2023
Officially placed on injured list
New York placed Judge on the 10-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to June 4, with a right big toe sprain.
ANALYSIS
As previously announced by manager Aaron Boone, Judge will head to the injured list with his toe sprain and miss at least a week of action. The outfielder will be out of action for at least a week, and the Yankees have selected the contract of Billy McKinney from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Judge on the roster.
Jun 6, 2023
Heading to injured list
X-rays revealed Tuesday that there's no break or fracture of Judge's big right toe, but a sprain will cause him to be placed on the 10-day injured list before Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Bob Klapisch of The New York Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was out of the lineup again Tuesday against the White Sox after crashing into a wall Saturday during a victory over the Dodgers. The 2022 MVP will miss at least a week while recovering, and there's no timetable for his return. Judge has been outstanding again in 2023 with a 1.078 OPS and 19 homers over 49 games, and the Yankees along with fantasy GMs won't have his right-handed bat in their lineup until the middle of June at the earliest.
Jun 6, 2023
Will not be in lineup Tuesday
Judge (toe) will not be in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the White Sox, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on the Talkin' Yanks podcast.
ANALYSIS
That Judge won't be playing Tuesday doesn't come as a surprise. What remains in question is whether he will need a stint on the injured list for his right toe injury. Boone expects to know the results of the testing on Judge's toe later Tuesday. The star outfielder was injured when he crashed into the outfield wall during Saturday's win over the Dodgers.
Jun 4, 2023
Set for additional testing
Judge (toe) will undergo additional testing Monday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge sustained a toe injury when he crashed into the wall during Saturday's game against the Dodgers, and he sat out Sunday's series finale. He'll be able to rest during the team's scheduled day off Monday, but he isn't yet sure whether his toe is broken, which would likely require a trip for him to the injured list. A better idea of his status should come into focus once the results of his tests are known.
Jun 4, 2023
Managing foot issue
Judge isn't in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers due to a right foot injury, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old suffered the injury during Saturday's contest when he crashed into the bullpen gate in right field while making a catch. Judge remained in the game and said after the contest he was feeling fine, but he's apparently dealing with some soreness in his foot. The Yankees have a team day off Monday, so Judge will have two consecutive days to recover ahead of Tuesday's series opener versus the White Sox.
Jun 4, 2023
Not starting Sunday
Judge is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Judge crashed through the right-field bullpen gate while making a catch Saturday and will receive Sunday off as the Yankees close out their road trip in Los Angeles. The reigning AL MVP said he was fine after the game, so manager Aaron Boone could simply be taking advantage of Monday's scheduled off day in order to get Judge two straight days of rest.
Jun 4, 2023
Wows with bat and glove
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Saturday in a 6-3 victory versus the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Judge shined in the nationally televised game, launching a solo shot to left field in the sixth inning and stalling what had the makings of a Dodgers rally by robbing J.D. Martinez of a certain extra-base hit with a spectacular catch in the eighth. Judge crashed through the right-field gate on the play, but he appeared to be no worse for the wear, saying after the contest, "We're feeling good. I think the fence got most of it," per Erik Boland of Newsday. Judge has five homers over his past six games and is up to an AL-leading 19 long balls on the campaign despite a stint on the injured list in early May.
May 31, 2023
Goes yard again in win
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Judge tacked on to the Yankees' lead with a solo blast to left center to put his team up 8-2. He now has four homers over his last three games and has six RBI over that span. Judge is now standing alone at second in the majors with 18 home runs through 46 games, which is the same amount he had through 46 games last season as well. The 31-year-old is on pace for another historic season and is now slashing .303/413/691 with 39 RBI, 41 runs and a 33:59 BB:K to go with a league-leading 1.104 OPS across 201 plate appearances.
May 30, 2023
Clobbers two homers in victory
Judge went 3-for-4 with one double, two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored in Monday's 10-4 victory over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Judge now has 17 long balls on the year, tied for second in MLB. The superstar's 1.087 OPS also leads the league, he's batting .357 with 11 homers since coming back from injury on May 9. The outfielder has once again proved that he's one of the top options in fantasy.
May 28, 2023
Homers in win
Judge went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
Judge got the Yankees on the board Sunday with a solo shot off Yu Darvish in the bottom of the first inning before adding a second RBI on a base hit in the third. In 18 games this month, Judge is batting .333 with nine home runs and an outstanding 1.261 OPS. The reigning MVP is now slashing .291/.398/.633 with 15 homers, 36 runs scored and 35 RBI through 158 plate appearances this season.

Continues hot streak
Judge went 4-for-4 with one double, three RBI and one run scored in Saturday's victory over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Though Judge is heralded for his power, he displayed his versatility as a hitter Saturday, collecting a triad of singles to go along with a double. He paired up with fellow slugger Anthony Rizzo to combine for six of the team's seven RBI in the win, as Judge individually brought Ben Rortvedt in to score twice. Judge has now recorded a hit in eight consecutive games and is hitting 14-for-31 (.452) with seven home runs, 16 RBI and nine runs scored in that span.

Judge has added 11 homers, 26 RBI, 27 runs and a .272/.377/.584 slash line through 151 plate appearances.
May 17, 2023
Crushes game-winning homer
Judge went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS

May 14, 2023
Launches two long balls Saturday
Judge went 2-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers and a walk in Saturday's 9-8 win against Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Judge was instrumental in bringing New York back from an early six-run deficit. He swatted a two-run shot to bring the team to within a pair of runs in the fifth inning, then gave the Yankees their first lead with another two-run blast in the sixth. The big performance snapped an uncharacteristic power drought for the slugger, who hadn't homered in his previous 12 games. Judge is up to eight homers and 20 RBI while slashing .264/.359/.536 with two thefts through 131 plate appearances on the campaign.
May 11, 2023
Tallies three hits Wednesday
Judge went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs in Wednesday's 11-3 win over Oakland.
ANALYSIS

May 9, 2023
Reinstated from IL
Judge (hip) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge will make his return to the lineup after missing just under two weeks while recovering from a strained right hip. The 31-year-old went 5-for-14 with three doubles, three RBI and two runs scored over his final four games before going down with the injury. Overall, on the season Judge has produced a .261 average with six homers, 14 RBI, 18 runs scored and two stolen bases over 92 at-bats in 26 games and he'll look to take advantage of the plus matchup against Oakland on Tuesday night.
May 6, 2023
Remains on track for Tuesday return
Judge (hip) continues to hit and run and remains on track to be activated Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been out since April 27 with a strained right hip, but his absence won't stretch on much longer. His .261/.352/.511 slash line in 26 games prior to his injury was perhaps below his sky-high expectations but still represents a strong performance.
May 5, 2023
Targeted for Tuesday return
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Friday that the club is currently targeting Tuesday against the Athletics for Judge (hip) to return to the lineup.
ANALYSIS
Judge an, threw and did defensive work at the #Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa on Friday. The outfielder is dealing with a strain at the top of his hip, but a return to the lineup against the Athletics on Tuesday would mean he only misses one extra day on the injured list. As long as as there are no setbacks, the Yankees and fantasy managers should get the reigning 2022 MVP back in their lineups at some point next week.
May 2, 2023
Hopes for minimum IL stay
Judge (hip) hit in the cage pregame Tuesday and the Yankees are hopeful he'll be ready to return on May 8 when first eligible, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge probably could have played through his hip issue, but the Yankees decided to play it safe and put him on the IL Monday. However, it sounds like there's a good chance the slugger will be back in action following a minimum absence.
May 1, 2023
Heads to injured list
Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to April 28 on Monday with a right hip strain.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees did their best to see if Judge could recover without needing a stint on the injured list, but ultimately the outfielder will end up missing a week-plus while getting healthy. There's a very good chance that Judge will only miss the minimum required time, but New York will take every necessary precaution with the reigning MVP. To replace Judge on the roster, the Yankees have recalled Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
May 1, 2023
Taking batting practice
Judge (hip) is not in the Yankees' lineup Monday versus the Guardians but is slated to take batting practice before the game, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge will miss a fourth straight start with a strain at the top of his right hip, but it would seem to be a good sign that he's taking BP. Based on how it goes, it's possible he could be ready to return to the lineup Tuesday. The Yankees have Isiah Kiner-Falefa in center field and Willie Calhoun in right field Monday.
Apr 30, 2023
Won't play Sunday or Monday
Judge (hip) will not return to the lineup for the Yankees for Sunday or Monday's games, but he could play Tuesday against the Guardians if he's not placed on the injured list, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees are still waiting to make a decision on whether to place Judge on the injured list, but at the very least the reigning MVP will miss at least two more games while dealing with the strain at the top of his hip. New York would be able to backdate Judge's injured list stint by three days, so he would likely only miss a week if the Yankees deem that to be a necessary move.
Apr 29, 2023
Slight strain at top of hip
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters before Saturday's game against the Rangers that Judge has a slight strain at the top of his hip, and the team will wait a couple of days to see if he can continue to improve before placing him on the injured list, Jack Curry of YES Networkreports.
ANALYSIS
Boone told reporters that they're hopeful to make a decision on whether Judge needs to be removed from the active roster by Monday. Judge underwent an MRI before Friday's game, and it revealed a strain that will keep the outfielder out of action, but does not appear to be significant enough to cause a long-term leave of absence. That being said, fantasy managers should be prepared for Judge to miss another couple of games, at the very least.
Apr 28, 2023
Stint on injured list possible
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters after Friday's loss to the Rangers that the MRI on Judge's hip showed "something", but the team doctor will weigh in before any decision is made in regards to being placed on the injured list, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone did say that a trip to the injured list for Judge is possible, but cautioned it was too early to determine his status. The reigning MVP is expected to miss at least one more game at least regardless of the decision, but an update on just how much time Judge will miss will likely be available before Saturday's game against Texas.
Apr 28, 2023
Undergoing MRI on hip
Judge will undergo an MRI on his ailing right hip Friday, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge tweaked his hip during an awkward slide in Wednesday's game versus the Twins and then aggravated it Thursday against the Rangers. He's expected to be sidelined for a few days, at minimum, and a stint on the injured list is possible, depending on what the MRI reveals. Jake Bauers has been added to the Yankees' taxi squad and will join the active roster if Judge needs to go on the IL.
Apr 27, 2023
Will miss a few games
Judge will miss the "next couple of days" due to a hip injury, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge exited in the middle of Thursday's game, but he noted that he had felt pain in his hip since earlier in the day. The issue is related to an awkward slide that occurred in Wednesday's contest. While it's unclear if a stint on the injured list will be required, Judge noted that he is not concerned about the issue being long term.
Apr 27, 2023
Dealing with hip discomfort
Judge exited Thursday's game against the Rangers with right hip discomfort, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was removed midway through the contest for undisclosed reasons. He seems to have avoided a serious injury, though the details remain unclear. Oswaldo Cabrera entered the game in Judge's place.
Apr 27, 2023
Removed from Thursday's game
Judge was removed from Thursday's game against the Rangers for undisclosed reasons, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The removal was presumably due to an injury, though nothing has been confirmed by the team. Judge suffered an injury to each of his hands on Wednesday against the Twins, but he declared himself healthy after the game. It's unclear if Thursday's injury is related. Oswaldo Cabrera took over in right field in Judge's place.
Apr 26, 2023
OK after injury scare
Judge injured both hands on a stolen base attempt during Wednesday's game versus the Twins but said after the contest he's "all good," Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's hands got jammed into the dirt on an awkward slide into third base, with the right hand taking the brunt of it. He was checked out by the Yankees' training staff and was seen flexing his right hand multiple times. However, Judge remained in the game and picked up a walk and a single in three more plate appearances. It's possible manager Aaron Boone will use this as an excuse to give his slugger a day off Thursday, but it seems as though Judge will be fine.
Apr 20, 2023
Blasts sixth long ball
Judge went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two walks Wednesday in a 3-2 extra-inning victory against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Judge got the scoring started in the first inning, walloping a 412-foot, two-run homer off Griffin Canning. It was the sixth long ball of the season for the slugger, moving him into a tie for fifth place in the majors. Judge has cooled down a bit of late, going 3-for-21 (.143) over his past seven contests. However, he's worked six walks over that span, and two of his three hits have been homers.
Apr 9, 2023
Smacks two homers
Judge went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge got the Yankees off to a strong start after singling to left field in the first inning and being quickly driven in by Giancarlo Stanton's RBI single. The 30-year-old then added to the lead by hitting two solo home runs, one in the third inning off Tyler Wells and the other in the eighth inning off Logan Gillaspie. This impressive display earned Judge the 28th multi-homer game of his career and the first of the season. With four homers and a .364/.436/.758 slash line through 33 at-bats, Judge is starting to display the power fans have eagerly anticipated.
Apr 6, 2023
Nabs first steal of season
Judge went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base against the Phillies in a 4-2 victory Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge helped New York get off to a promising start in the win, singling to left field in the first inning, subsequently stealing second base and coming around to score the game's first run on a Gleyber Torres single. The theft was the first of the campaign for the slugger, who tallied a career-high 16 steals last season. Judge's power is undoubtedly his biggest asset, but his fantasy value will be all the more savory if he can reach double-digit steals again in 2023.
Apr 3, 2023
Slugs second long ball
Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 6-0 win against the Giants on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Judge kicked off the scoring for New York in the contest, knocking a 392-foot solo shot in the third inning. The long ball was his sixth hit of the season, two of which have left the park. Judge is off to a strong start following his 2022 MVP campaign, posting a .462/.462/.923 slash line and driving in four runs over his first three games.
Mar 30, 2023
Slugs first-inning homer in opener
Judge went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two total RBI in the Yankees' season-opening defeat of the Giants on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After setting a new single-season AL home run record in 2022, the $360 million slugger kicked off his 2023 campaign with a first-inning bomb to center off Giants ace Logan Webb. Judge then drove in Jose Trevino with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as New York cruised to a 5-0 victory on Opening Day in the Bronx. The current pace for Judge this year: 162 HR and 324 RBI.
Mar 17, 2023
Limited game action this spring
Judge hasn't traveled with the Yankees for any of their Grapefruit League road games, but he's been getting live at-bats while the team is away, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's absence from spring road games isn't particularly unusual for a player of his tenure and status, though it has limited him to action in just nine of New York's 20 contests. The slugger has fared well when he has played, going 8-for-19 (.421) with four doubles, a home run, four RBI, four runs and a 4:3 BB:K. Judge has also been logging at-bats against the team's hurlers before home games and taking plenty of swings against high-velocity batting machines, so he's had ample opportunity to shake off any offseason rust. The Yankee captain won't go the entire spring without traveling -- he's expected to play in at least one road game during the upcoming weekend.
Mar 10, 2023
Might see some time in center field
Judge could see some starts in center field while Harrison Bader (oblique) is sidelined, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge actually made more starts in center than anywhere else last season, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch. The reigning AL MVP had already been ticketed for some left field duty this season, to, so it's possible he'll see action at all three outfield spots.
Mar 6, 2023
Will play in left twice next week
Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Judge will play left field on Wednesday and Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's been widely reported that Judge is going to play some left field during home games to allow Giancarlo Stanton to handle right field, with right offering far less ground to cover for Stanton. The outfielder might have a short acclimation period, but with Judge's athleticism he should have no trouble making the switch with three-plus weeks until the regular season starts.
Mar 5, 2023
Debut in left coming this week
Judge will make his spring debut in left field either Wednesday or Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge is going to play some left field in home games this year, which would allow Giancarlo Stanton to play right field in Yankees Stadium -- an area that will require Stanton to cover less ground. Judge has never played left field in the majors, but his athleticism should allow the transition to be a painless one.
Mar 1, 2023
Likely to play LF next week
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told ESPN that Judge is likely to play left field soon, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"Sometime, probably next week," Boone said. Judge has primarily played in right field with some center for the Yankees, but the outfielder is going to see some time in left with Giancarlo Stanton patrolling right -- an area that would require Stanton to cover less ground. Judge has only played in left field as a professional in 2016 when he was Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but it shouldn't be a major adjustment for the slugger.
Feb 21, 2023
Could play some LF at home
Judge is under consideration by Yankees manager Aaron Boone to play some left field this season during home games, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
That would allow Boone to play Giancarlo Stanton some in right field where he wouldn't have to cover much ground, thereby freeing up the designated hitter spot for others. Stanton started 38 games in the outfield last season, although none of those starts came after July. Judge actually played center field more than anywhere else last season but, of course, right field is his natural spot. His only experience in left field came in 2016 at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when he started seven games there.
Feb 14, 2023
Takes reps at first base
Judge took groundballs at first base on Tuesday in Yankees camp, Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has never appeared at first base in a professional game, and this might have just been a fun early-spring endeavor for the big slugger, but Caldera notes that he was wearing a first baseman's glove on his left hand and appeared to be going through legitimate drills. A little more defensive versatility couldn't hurt, especially if something were to go wrong physically this year with Anthony Rizzo. Judge currently projects to serve as the Yankees' everyday right fielder in 2023.
Dec 7, 2022
Back in Bronx on a nine-year deal
Judge and the Yankees agreed Wednesday on a nine-year, $360 million contract, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, Judge had higher offers on the table from other clubs, but he was eager to remain with the Yankees coming off a season in which he set a new American League record with 62 home runs. He'll take home $40 million annually as part of his new deal, which keeps him in The Bronx through 2031, his age-39 season. Though Judge likely would have been a first-round fantasy selection in the majority of leagues regardless of where he landed in free agency, the fact that he's returning to New York at least removes some concerns about how a park change might influence his projection.
Nov 17, 2022
Awarded AL MVP
Judge was named the 2022 AL MVP on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Judge set the American League home run record with 62 long balls on the season, and he also amassed an impressive 133 runs and 131 RBI. That was also good for an immaculate 207 wRC+, a mark that led the league by 22 points. Judge accrued 410 votes, followed by Shohei Ohtani (280) and Yordan Alvarez (232).
Oct 15, 2022
Drops to second spot in lineup
Judge will bat second in Saturday's ALDS Game 3 matchup against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Judge spent most of the stretch run batting leadoff, though that might have been primarily about getting him as many at-bats as possible in his quest to set the American League home run record. While his .425 on-base percentage is an excellent fit for the role, the leadoff spot minimizes the number of runners on base when he bats. The lineup change could therefore be a tactical one, though it's just as likely that it's an effort to shake things up for the superstar slugger, who's gone 0-for-8 with seven strikeouts thus far this postseason. Gleyber Torres will step into the leadoff role.
Oct 5, 2022
Sits after slugging milestone homer
Judge is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Just as Yankees manager Aaron Boone had hinted might be the case, Judge will be on the bench for the regular-season finale after slugging his American League-record 62nd home run in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. Since he'll be resting Wednesday, Judge -- who holds a .311 batting average -- likely won't have a chance at passing the Twins' Luis Arraez (.315) for the AL batting crown. In addition to the home-runs category, Judge also leads the AL with 131 RBI, so he'll narrowly miss out on claiming the Triple Crown.
Oct 5, 2022
Sets AL record with 62nd homer
Judge went 2-for-7 with a solo home run and an additional run between both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader split with the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Judge smacked his 62nd long ball of the season in his first trip to the plate during the second game of the twin bill, breaking a tie with former Yankees great Roger Maris for the American League record. The slugger's chase for the record-tying and record-setting home runs seemed to affect how pitchers approached him over the past two weeks, as Judge has drawn walks in 30 percent of his plate appearances while collecting only 41 at-bats in his last 14 games. With the milestone home run now behind Judge, manager Aaron Boone suggested that the outfielder could rest in Wednesday's regular-season finale, though a final decision hasn't yet been made.
Sep 28, 2022
Ties Roger Maris with 61st home run
Judge went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 8-3 victory over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Judge made history in the top of the seventh inning as he crushed the eighth pitch of his at-bat against reliever Tim Mayza 117.4 mph to left field for his 61st home run of the season, tying Roger Maris' long-standing single season AL home run record. All eyes will be on Judge over the final week of the season as the Yankees have seven games left for the slugger to surpass Maris and set the AL record.
Sep 28, 2022
Pursuit of Maris stalled by walks
Judge went 0-for-1 with two runs and four walks in a 5-2 win against Toronto on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge lined out to third base leading off the contest and took a free pass in each of his subsequent four plate appearances. The slugger has gone seven games without a long ball since hitting No. 60 against Pittsburgh on Sept. 20, but that's largely because he's seeing few pitches to hit. Over the seven-contest stretch, Judge has walked 12 times in 31 plate appearances, adding five hits (including three doubles) for a .548 on-base percentage. He has eight games remaining in the regular season to attempt to tie and eclipse Roger Maris' single-season American League record of 61 home runs.
Sep 21, 2022
Extends hit streak to 11
Judge went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored in Wednesday's 14-2 win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
While he just missed making history with a ground rule double in the fifth inning, Judge's two hits on the night extended his hitting streak to 11 games. During that stretch, he is 22-for-44 with 10 extra-base hits, 15 runs scored and 10 RBI. His next shot at tying Roger Maris' AL home run record will come during a four-game set against the Red Sox at home this week.
Sep 21, 2022
60th homer for triple crown lead
Judge went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-8 victory over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
With a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday, Judge inched closer toward history. He passed Xander Bogaerts in batting average to claim the lead in the AL triple crown race and now has 60 homers, just one shy of tying the AL record set by Roger Maris in 1961. Judge's remarkable month of September has improved his season-long slash line to .316/.419/.703, and if it holds, he would be the first player to slug over .700 since Barry Bonds did in 2004.
Sep 18, 2022
Draws closer to AL home run record
Judge went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, four RBI, three runs and a walk during Sunday's 12-8 win over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Judge extended his hitting streak to nine games during Sunday's high-scoring matchup, and he's had six multi-hit performances across that span. He's up to 59 home runs in 2022 following his multi-homer performance, bringing him within two home runs of tying the single-season American League record set by Roger Maris in 1961. Since the start of September, the 30-year-old has posted a 1.604 OPS with eight home runs, five doubles, 18 runs, 14 RBI and a stolen base over 15 games.
Sep 13, 2022
Slams homers 56 and 57 Tuesday
Judge went 3-for-4 with two homers, two RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
The AL MVP candidate had a huge day at the plate Tuesday as he tied the game up at 3-3 with a solo shot in the sixth inning, and after the Red Sox responded with a run of their own, he launched another solo shot to tie the game at 4-4. The multi-home run game was his 10th of the season and gives him a league best 57 home runs. He also now has a 10-game hitting streak, during which he is 19-for-37 with six home runs, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI.
Sep 8, 2022
On base six times in twin bill
Judge went 1-for-5 with five walks, a solo home run and a stolen base Wednesday as the Yankees swept a doubleheader with the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Minnesota's pitchers tried their best to work around the major-league home run leader, but Judge still launched his 55th homer of the season in the fourth inning of the matinee off rookie Louie Varland -- his fourth straight game with a long ball. He then showed off his athleticism by stealing his career-high 16th base of the year in the nightcap. Since the beginning of August, Judge has been an offensive juggernaut, slashing .312/.479/.725 over 33 games with 13 homers, six steals, 23 runs and 27 RBI.
Sep 6, 2022
On another homer tear
Judge went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double, a walk and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-2 win against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
With the score tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, Judge launched a two-run shot to left field to put New York ahead for good. The performance marked his third straight game with a long ball and pushed his season total to a league-leading 54 homers. Since struggling through a nine-game homerless stretch in mid-August, Judge has gone deep eight times in his subsequent 13 contests.
Sep 4, 2022
Crushes moonshot for 53rd home run
Judge went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Judge mashed a belt-high sinker from Shawn Armstrong 450 feet to left field to lead off the game for the Yankees. The slugger also recorded a base hit in the fifth inning and doubled and scored in the seventh for good measure. Judge now has 53 homers, a career high and the highest total since Pete Alonso hit 53 in 2019. He is now slashing .299/.401/.674 on the season.
Sep 4, 2022
Launches solo shot in loss
Judge went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 loss against Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Judge continued his incredible season by blasting his 52nd home run of the year. That mark ties his season-high from 2017, as does his 114 RBI this season which was also a season-high from that year. The outfielder has the sixth-most strikeouts in baseball this year at 146, but also has the 14th most hits at 141 to go along with the second most walks and third most intentional walks. That has resulted in a .296/.399/.666 slash line for Judge this season.
Aug 31, 2022
Keeps mashing Tuesday
Judge went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Angels.

Judge's 383-foot blast off Max Scherzer in the third inning ended his longest power drought of the season, as the 30-year-old hadn't left the yard in any of the Yankees' last nine games while batting just .133 with 12 strikeouts. The American League MVP candidate's struggles of late have mirrored his team's, with the Yankees going 3-6 during Judge's nine-game slump. Resting Tuesday
Judge is out of the lineup Tuesday versus Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
It's presumably just a regular day of rest for Judge, who will be heading to Los Angeles instead of getting next week off. The star outfielder, who's slugging .474 in his last 10 games, should return to action Wednesday. Aaron Hicks plays center field in Tuesday's series opener.
Jul 8, 2022
Back in action
Judge (lower body) will return to action as expected Friday against the Red Sox, batting second and serving as the designated hitter, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge missed Thursday's series opener due to lower-body soreness, but the issue never seemed to be a particularly serious one. The fact that he'll be limited to DH duties may suggest that he's not quite 100 percent healthy, but he's evidently healthy enough to hit.
Jul 7, 2022
Expected back Friday
Judge (soreness) is expected to be back in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Jul 7, 2022
Sits after four-RBI performance
Judge is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Judge isn't known to be nursing an injury, but since he most recently received a maintenance day in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Guardians, he wouldn't seem to be a prime candidate to get a breather Thursday. Manager Aaron Boone should shed more light on the situation later Thursday, but Matt Carpenter will benefit from a third consecutive start while Judge takes a seat. The American League MVP candidate bolstered his credentials Wednesday, when he went 3-for-4 with a double and his MLB-best 30th home run while driving in four runs in the Yankees' 16-0 rout of the Pirates.
Jul 7, 2022

The terms of the agreement aren't yet known, but it's encouraging that the two sides settled prior to a hearing, which can strain relationships between players and their teams. The 30-year-old is slashing .304/.379/.658 with 27 homers, 58 runs, 53 RBI and five stolen bases to begin the season.

Judge leads all major-leaguers with 27 home runs on the campaign, six more than his closest competitors (Yordan Alvarez and Mike Trout with 21 apiece).

Judge went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in a 4-3 loss to Boston on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Judge singled and stole second in the first inning and tacked on another single in the third to record his second multi-hit game of the season. The slugging outfielder has yet to surpass six steals in a season since his rookie year and the early theft is a good indication that Judge plans to run more, especially given it's a contract season. Judge is now 4-for-13 on the season with one double and one walk.

Could see time in CF
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Judge could spend some time playing center field this season, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge projects to be the Yankees' everyday right fielder, but with Brett Gardner no longer a Yankee (at least for now), there could be a need for Judge to see some time in center. Aaron Hicks is expected to play the position on a regular basis, but it's a risky proposition to expect him to stay healthy for a full 162-game slate given his durability issues. Judge logged 158 innings in center field last season but didn't play the position at all in 2019 or 2020.

The long ball was the team-leading 37th of the year for Judge, who is slashing .287/.374/.540 overall.
Sep 28, 2021
Fine after finger scare
Manager Aaron Boone said that Judge is "good to go" after dislocating his left pinkie finger during Sunday's win over Boston, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was able to stay in the game after suffering the injury, so it's not surprising that he's able to play Tuesday. Boone added that the injury wasn't "too serious," so as of now, it doesn't look like it will be a reason for concern going forward. Judge is starting in right field and batting third Tuesday against Toronto.

Doubles home go-ahead runs
Judge went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Judge's 24th double of the season proved to be the most consequential play of the night, as he plated the go-ahead runs in the seventh inning to help the Yankees secure a series sweep while surging ahead of the Red Sox in the American League wild-card race. The Red Sox defense did Judge some favors in allowing the clutch hit to come to fruition; first baseman Bobby Dalbec and catcher Christian Vazquez both failed to corral foul balls that prolonged Judge's at-bat before the slugger lined a ball to left-center gap. Judge is batting a mere .217 in September, but he's made the most of his 20 hits on the month with eight home runs and 17 RBI.
Sep 22, 2021

The 29-year-old is getting on base at a poor .277 clip thus far in September, but he's been productive enough from a counting-stats standpoint (seven home runs, 15 RBI, 10 runs) through 20 games.

Judge is up to 35 homers, 85 RBI, 78 runs scored and a .288/.372/.539 slash line through 575 plate appearances. He's added six stolen bases and 21 doubles to round out a solid stat line.

Ready to go Monday
Judge (head) will start in right field and bat third Monday against the Twins, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite the quick turnaround for Monday's make-up game with the Twins, Judge looks like he'll be ready to play after exiting early in the Yankees' loss to the Mets on Sunday night after experiencing dizziness. Judge never entered the concussion protocol and was apparently feeling better after reporting to the ballpark early Monday, so fantasy managers can probably feel comfortable keeping him in lineups as the Yankees kick off a seven-game week.
Sep 13, 2021
Could return Monday
Manager Aaron Boone is hopeful that Judge (illness) will be available for Monday's game against Minnesota, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge felt experienced dizziness in his first at-bat Sunday and was replaced defensively in the bottom of the third inning. Boone said that the outfielder was "doing pretty good" after Sunday's loss, and it doesn't appear as though his dizziness is a long-term concern.

Aug 28, 2021
Blasts ninth-inning homer
Judge went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Saturday's loss to the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Judge was just one triple away from hitting the cycle and provided all the offense the Yankees were able to muster against the A's pitching staff with a two-run blast off Sergio Romo in the top of the ninth. However, his 29th long ball of the campaign wasn't enough to spark a comeback or force extra innings. The towering slugger has posted five straight multi-hit performances and has homered in back-to-back games as well. He's hitting an impressive .346 with eight homers and 24 RBI this month.

His OPS has also risen to .946, which would be his best mark since his 2017 rookie season.
May 13, 2021
Has three hit day in win
Judge went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Judge had half of the Yankees' hits in Wednesday's narrow win and scored their only run in the seventh after leading off the inning with a base knock to left-center field. The 29-year-old has struggled to see the ball well for most of May but is 5-for-8 over his last two games and appears to be starting to turn things around. The Rays are scheduled to throw Rich Hill on Thursday which could bode well for Judge as he's historically had much more success against lefties in his career and is slashing .379/.486/.690 and has a 1.175 OPS against them in 35 plate appearances this year.
May 12, 2021
Goes deep in win
Judge went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Judge opened up the scoring early when he absolutely lasered a ball out to center to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the first. The home run was his first of May and he's only tallied four hits in his last eight games while also owning a 3:14 BB:K over that span. His performance Tuesday could instill some more confidence at the plate and help break him out of the slump he's endured for most of this month.
May 9, 2021
Getting breather Sunday
Judge is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Per Marly Rivera of ESPN.com, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he's holding Judge out of the lineup Sunday in a "proactive" measure with New York set to embark of a heavy schedule following Monday's off day. Judge will effectively get two days in a row off, which the Yankees are hoping allows the struggling outfielder to clear his head and get right at the plate. Over his last six starts, Judge has gone 2-for-24 with 14 strikeouts.
May 6, 2021
Wears Platinum Sombrero in loss
Judge struck out in all five of his plate appearances in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
The five strikeouts tied a career high for Judge, who stranded six runners on the night. Judge's struggles at the dish weren't enough to slow down the surging Yankees, who rolled to their fifth straight victory thanks largely to Giancarlo Stanton, who reached base four times and drove in four. The Yankees could look to give Judge a day off soon to clear his head, but fantasy managers shouldn't fret too much about his poor showing Wednesday.
May 1, 2021
Drives in three runs
Judge went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run during Saturday's 6-4 win against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old now collected eight RBI through two games versus the Tigers after sitting out the previous two contests for maintenance purposes. Judge is 10-for-25 with three home runs, two doubles, three walks, 10 RBI and eight runs across the past seven games.
May 1, 2021
Homers twice in return
Judge went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's 10-0 win over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Judge had sat out the last two days for maintenance purposes due to lower-body soreness, but he didn't appear to miss a beat in his return to the lineup. He hit a solo home run to lead off the third inning before blasting a grand slam with one out in the fourth. Judge has slashed .272/.385/.568 with seven home runs, 15 RBI and 10 runs through the first month of the season.
Apr 30, 2021
Back in action Friday
Judge (lower body) is starting in right field and batting third Friday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old sat out the last two days for maintenance purposes with some lower body soreness, but he's back in the lineup Friday and is expected to play all three games versus Detroit. Judge is 5-for-16 with one homer, two doubles, two RBI and one run over his past five games.
Apr 29, 2021
Expected to play throughout weekend
Judge (lower body) is expected to play all three games in the Yankees' upcoming series against the Tigers, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has missed the last two games due to lower-body soreness. Manager Aaron Boone said that Judge should be back in the lineup for Friday's series opener against Detroit, and he also said that he expects the right fielder to play Saturday and Sunday. Judge has slashed .263/.385/.500 with five home runs and 10 RBI in 21 games this year.
Apr 29, 2021
Needs one more day
Judge (lower body) will sit for the second straight day Thursday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge will get another day to rest as he works through some lower-body soreness. He'll be available off the bench, per Jack Curry of YES Network, and is expected to return to the lineup Friday against the Tigers. Clint Frazier starts in right field Thursday.
Apr 28, 2021
Gets maintenance day
Judge (lower body) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone noted after Tuesday's win that Judge has been managing some lower-body soreness of late and could need a couple of days off, so the star outfielder's absence from the lineup a day later shouldn't come as a major surprise. The Yankees will presumably check back in with Judge early Thursday to see how he's feeling before deciding whether he'll be available for the series finale that afternoon. Clint Frazier will fill in for Judge in right field Wednesday.
Apr 27, 2021
Battling soreness
Manager Aaron Boone said after Tuesday's win over the Orioles that Judge will be out of the lineup within the next couple days while he deals with general lower body soreness, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old is managing some general soreness with the Yankees eight games into a stretch of 13 straight days with a game, so he's due for a day off. Judge went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk during Tuesday's contest before being removed for the bottom of the ninth inning. He's likely to be withheld from the lineup for one of Wednesday's or Thursday's games in Baltimore.
Apr 14, 2021
Launches two homers
Judge went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Toronto.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old clubbed his third and fourth home runs of the season Wednesday but had no additional opportunities for RBI since he never batted with a runner on base. Judge has a .282/.364/.590 slash line with seven RBI through 44 plate appearances this season.
Apr 10, 2021
Starting Saturday
Judge (side) is starting Saturday's game against the Rays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge had missed the last two games due to side soreness, but manager Aaron Boone confirmed that the 28-year-old will be back in right field for Saturday's matchup. Prior to his injury, Judge had gone 8-for-22 with two home runs, five RBI and four strikeouts in five games to begin the season.
Apr 9, 2021
Remains out Friday
Judge (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old will be on the bench for the second straight contest while managing soreness in his left side. According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, manager Aaron Boone said Judge hit in the cage Friday and won't require any imaging tests, so the outfielder should still be considered day-to-day. Mike Tauchman and Clint Frazier will start in the corner outfield spots for the Yankees in the series opener.
Apr 7, 2021
Managing side soreness
Judge isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Baltimore due to a sore side, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone revealed that Judge was dealing with soreness in his side during Tuesday's game, and the team didn't want him to push through it Wednesday. However, Boone didn't sound too concerned about the issue, and Judge will have an extra day to recover since the Yankees have a day off Thursday.
Apr 7, 2021
Sitting out Wednesday
Judge isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge will take a seat for the first time this season after he went 8-for-22 with two home runs and five RBI in the first five games. Clint Frazier will shift to right field while Brett Gardner takes over in left field Wednesday.
Apr 6, 2021
Homers again, drives in four
Judge went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and another RBI during Tuesday's win over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge tallied a pair of singles including one RBI before extending New York's lead with a two-out, three-run homer against Wade LeBlanc in the eighth inning. It was the second long ball in as many games for the 28-year-old slugger, who is off to a solid .364 batting average.
Apr 5, 2021
Knocks first home run
Judge went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge's solo blast in the fourth inning was his first extra-base hit of the season and gave the Yankees an early 1-0 lead. The 6-foot-7 superstar is now 5-for-17 on the year after two multi-hit performances in his last three games.
Mar 31, 2021
Ready for Opening Day
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Judge (illness) is "good to go," Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was held out of the lineup for Monday's Grapefruit League finale due to a minor illness, but he participated in team activities Wednesday and looked good in batting practice. The 28-year-old will likely slot into the No. 2 spot for Thursday's season opener against Toronto. Judge appeared in 16 spring games this year and slashed .256/.333/.395 with one home run and two RBI.
Mar 29, 2021
Battling minor illness
Manager Aaron Boone said Judge was excluded from the lineup for the Yankees' Grapefruit League finale Monday against the Tigers due to a non-COVID-19-related illness, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports. "He's a little under the weather," Boone said, while downplaying Judge's illness.
ANALYSIS
Judge's ailment isn't believed to affect his availability for Opening Day, with Boone noting that the outfielder is still scheduled to fly with the team to New York as the Yankees wrap up camp Monday. The Yankees haven't yet indicated how they plan to structure their starting lineup while Luke Voit (knee) begins the season on the injured list, but Judge will presumably slot into the No. 2 spot for Thursday's opener versus the Blue Jays. Judge batted second in all 16 of his starts this spring.
Mar 26, 2021
Clubs first spring homer
Judge went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk in Thursday's Grapefruit League loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Judge took Matt Moore deep in the first inning, crushing a 440-foot shot to left field. The slugger is slashing .250/.333/.375 with a 4:12 BB:K across 15 spring contests.
Mar 3, 2021
Unhurt after HBP
Judge was hit in the lat and pulled from Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against Toronto, but he is fine, according to Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger.
ANALYSIS
Judge was drilled by a 96 mph fastball and immediately removed from the contest, but Yankees interim manager Carlos Mendoza indicated after the game that the slugger was pulled because he was slated for only two plate appearances regardless of the outcome. At this point, there appears to be no concern about Judge needing to miss any time. In his other plate appearance Wednesday, Judge lined out to right field.
Mar 1, 2021
Will ease into action
Judge stated Sunday that he'll play in every other game at the start of spring training, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge is healthy entering Grapefruit League play, but it makes sense for New York to be cautious with the slugger given his rash of injuries over the past three seasons. As long as he's able to avoid injury, Judge is expected to slot in as the Yankees' starting right fielder and bat near the top of the team's batting order.
Feb 25, 2021
Yet to discuss extension
Judge and the Yankees have not yet engaged in talks about a contract extension, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge isn't set to become a free agent until 2023 -- next season will be his final year of arbitration -- so the lack of extension talks is not necessarily telling when it comes to interpreting the Yankees' interest in locking him up long term. Still, the slugger has missed over 140 regular-season games over the past three seasons, so it wouldn't be shocking if New York has some level of trepidation about his ability to stay on the field. A healthy and productive 2021 campaign would likely ease those fears and set Judge up for a massive payday.
Feb 4, 2021
Changing offseason routine
Judge has changed his offseason routine, working on his flexibility rather than only lifting weights, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has battled a number of injuries in the past few seasons, including oblique and calf strains. Across the past three campaigns, he's spent a combined 146 days on the injured list. While these types of reports are hardly unique at this time of the offseason, Judge has the potential to be a standout source of power in the 2021 season if he can remain on the field.
Jan 15, 2021
Avoids arbitration with Yankees
Judge signed a one-year, $10.175 million contract with the Yankees on Friday to avoid arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old will receive an eight-figure salary in 2021after posting a .257/.336/.554 slash line with nine homers in 28 games last season. Judge figures to be in the MVP race again next season if he can stay healthy, which isn't a guarantee given his injury issues over the past three seasons.
Sep 30, 2020
Swats two-run bomb
Judge went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer Tuesday to defeat the Indians in Game 1 of the Wild Card Round.
ANALYSIS
Judge opened the game by cranking a two-run homer in the first inning off Shane Bieber, following a leadoff single from DJ LeMahieu. The 28-year-old slashed .257/.336/.554 throughout the 2020 regular season with an impressive 142 OPS+.
Sep 25, 2020
Set to play in final three games
Judge is expected to play in all three contests during the Yankees' weekend series versus the Marlins, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was held out of the starting lineup Thursday, though he came on as a pinch hitter in the seventh and logged two at-bats while staying in the game to play right field. The team has taken a cautious approach with the slugger since he returned from a strained calf Sept. 16; however, it appears that he'll get a chance to ramp up for the postseason by taking part in all three games this weekend. Since his return, Judge has struggled with a .185 batting average and no extra-base hits while striking out 10 times in 27 at-bats.
Sep 24, 2020
Not starting in series finale
Judge isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Judge went hitless with a walk and one strikeout in three at-bats Wednesday, but he'll play a bench role Thursday as the Yankees continue to manage his workload ahead of the postseason. Clint Frazier will shift to right field with Brett Gardner starting in left.
Sep 22, 2020
Tallies three runs
Judge went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI during Tuesday's 12-1 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old entered the game 2-for-17 with seven strikeouts since returning from the injured list last week, but he smacked three singles and came around to score each time Tuesday. Judge has a .276/.330/.609 slash line with nine homers, 21 runs and 21 RBI through 23 games this season.
Sep 20, 2020
Sitting Sunday, as expected
Judge is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone choreographed this move, saying Friday that he expected to sit Judge for the finale in Boston. The team is understandably being cautious after Judge aggravated his calf injury immediately upon his initial return in late August. Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Clint Frazier start for the Yankees from left to right.
Sep 19, 2020
Likely to sit Sunday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Judge is expected to be in the lineup for Saturday's game against Boston before getting a day off Sunday, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With both Judge and Giancarlo Stanton building back up from injuries, the team is taking a cautious approach and managing their playing time over the remainder of the regular season. Since coming off the injured list Wednesday, Judge has started twice, going 1-for-10 with five strikeouts.
Sep 17, 2020
Officially not starting
Judge isn't in Thursday's lineup against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Judge was expected to receive a day off Thursday as the team eases him back into action following his calf injury. Clint Frazier will take over in left field.
Sep 17, 2020
Likely to rest Thursday
Judge is expected to be held out of action Thursday as part of a plan to build him back up, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge returned to the lineup Wednesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Both he and Giancarlo Stanton are looking to get back into a rhythm after extended stays on the injured list, and the organization intends to ease them into action down the stretch. "Obviously Giancarlo is down today, then I'll have probably Aaron down tomorrow," manager Aaron Boone indicated prior to Wednesday's contest. "Then they'll go back-to-back days the next time, then into three and four in a row. We'll just kind of build it that way."
Sep 16, 2020
Activated from injured list
Judge (calf) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge has participated in simulated games over the past several days, and he'll be healthy enough to rejoin the Yankees for the final games in the regular season. The 28-year-old has appeared in just one game since Aug. 11 because he aggravated his injury when he initially returned from the injured list. Given the past aggravation, the team could choose to ease Judge back into action over the coming days.
Sep 15, 2020
Activation expected before weekend
Judge (calf) is expected to be activated from the injured list before Friday's series opener against the Red Sox, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old had seven plate appearances during an intrasquad game Tuesday, and manager Aaron Boone said there is a "good chance" he returns prior to the weekend series. Judge has been sidelined has appeared in one game since Aug. 11 due to the calf strain, as he aggravated the injury after initially returning from the injured list. Assuming he is reinstated within the next few days, he'll be available for at least the final 10 games of the regular season.
Sep 14, 2020
Participates in sim game
Judge (calf) hit, ran and took the field in a simulated game Monday, Conor Foley of the Scranton Times-Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was expected to miss about three weeks when he landed on the injured list with a calf strain for the second time this season in late August. That time period will expire this Friday, and he appears to be roughly still on that timeline, though the Yankees have yet to explicitly announce when he'll return to action.
Sep 13, 2020
Continues to progress
Stanton (calf) could start playing at the Yankees' alternate training site Monday, Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated reports.
ANALYSIS
He did base running and hit in the cage Sunday, so it seems he remains on track for a potential activation next weekend. Giancarlo Stanton and Gio Urshela are a little ahead of Judge in their progressions, so the Yankees could be getting three key hitters back within the next week.
Sep 11, 2020
Could return next weekend
Judge (calf) has a good chance to return by next weekend, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was expected to miss three weeks when he landed on the injured list with a strained calf two weeks ago, and it appears as though he's still on that same timeline. The Yankees are stuck in the middle of a very competitive playoff race, but there's little sense in them rushing Judge, who's already hit the injured list twice in this short season.
Sep 6, 2020
Approaching next step in recovery
Judge (calf) could begin a "more aggressive" progression of baseball activities Monday, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has already begun to ramp up activity of late, and he appears ready to push forward with the next step in his recovery soon. "He's had a couple of good days and started to ramp up a little bit. I think Monday we'll start the real progression as far as a lot of baseball activities, more aggressive with some of the running and the buildup," manager Aaron Boone stated Saturday. However, even if Judge makes quick progress, the Yankees figure to take a cautious approach to his activation given the fact that he's dealing with the recurrence of an injury.
Sep 4, 2020
Resumes baseball activities
Judge (calf) resumed baseball activities Friday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been on the injured list for one week of what was projected to be a three-week stay. Assuming his recovery proceeds without setbacks, he'll be ready to return with approximately 10 days left in the regular season. Given that he's already on his second trip to the injured list of the season due to the same calf issue, however, the Yankees are likely to be quite cautious with him.
Sep 2, 2020
Timetable uncertain
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated Tuesday that the team does not have a timetable for when Judge (calf) will resume baseball activities but added that the slugger is feeling "pretty well," Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was placed on the 10-day IL on Aug. 28 with a three-week return estimate, so he's unlikely to return prior to the final two weeks of the season. Even if the slugger continues to feel good as he recovers, the Yankees aren't going to push his return to the lineup since the calf problem is a recurring issue that didn't go away after 11 days of rest the first time around. The hope in the organization is likely for Judge to come back in time to shake off any rust and be a healthy contributor for a potential postseason run.
Aug 28, 2020
To IL for three weeks
Judge (calf) is heading back to the injured list, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
General manager Brian Cashman told fans on a Zoom call Thursday that the team will have to give Judge twice as long as the first time he was on the IL. He missed 11 days the first time around, so he may only return with a week left in the season, if he is able to return at all. There were reports the last time he was on the IL that he was feeling 100 percent, but this Grade 1 calf strain is clearly something that he has trouble playing through.
Aug 27, 2020
Undergoes MRI
Judge (calf) underwent an MRI on Thursday and could return to the injured list, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge reaggravated his calf injury Wednesday and was forced to exit the second game of the doubleheader. The results of his MRI aren't yet known, but manager Aaron Boone confirmed that he reaggravated the same injury that he dealt with earlier in the season. Judge returned from the injured list Tuesday, but Boone said that he could require another stay on the IL.
Aug 26, 2020
Aggravates calf injury
Judge exited Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Braves with right calf tightness, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old went 1-for-3 and had his calf tightened up while running the bases, and he was removed during the sixth inning. It was Judge's first game action after missing over two weeks with a right calf strain, so it's a concerning development for the Yankees. According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, manager Aaron Boone said a return trip to the injured list is possible, but specifics won't be known until Judge is further evaluated Thursday.
Aug 26, 2020
Will play RF in Game 2
Judge, who is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against Atlanta, will start in right field for Game 2, Marly Rivera of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees understandably don't want Judge to play in both games of the twin bill, after he was just activated from the injured list, but it's at least comforting to know he will be in there for the nightcap after he was absent from the Game 1 lineup. Mike Tauchman is starting in right field while Mike Ford is the designated hitter in the matinee.
Aug 26, 2020
Sitting in Game 1
Judge is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Braves.
ANALYSIS
He was reinstated from the injured list Tuesday and was originally in that lineup as the designated hitter before the game got postponed, so this is mildly concerning. That said, it would not be surprising if the Yankees planned on sitting him for one half of Wednesday's twin bill, so as long as he is in the lineup for the nightcap, we can assume nothing has changed with regards to his health. Mike Tauchman is starting in right field while Mike Ford is the designated hitter in the matinee.
Aug 25, 2020
Reinstated from injured list
Judge (calf) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Judge was sidelined for eight games due to a strained right calf, but he said throughout the Yankees' weekend layoff that he'd be available Tuesday. As expected, the 28-year-old was officially activated and should be available Tuesday against Atlanta. He carries a 1.101 OPS with nine home runs and 20 RBI over 17 games this year.
Aug 23, 2020
Ready to go Tuesday
The Yankees plan to activate Judge (calf) from the 10-day injured list ahead of the team's next game Tuesday against the Braves, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge will end up missing just eight games due to the strained right calf, as the Yankees haven't played since Thursday after their weekend series with the Mets was postponed due to COVID-19-related concerns. The slugger previously acknowledged that he didn't think he required a stint on the IL in the first place, and he seemingly proved his health by doing baserunning drills a few days ago before stepping in against Jordan Montgomery and J.A. Happ for live at-bats Sunday. Since Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) remains on the IL, the Yankees could ease Judge back into action as a designated hitter rather than deploying him at his normal spot in right field.
Aug 21, 2020
Will return for next game
Judge (calf) will return from the injured list when the Yankees play their next game, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The date of that next game remains to be seen, as the Yankees' weekend series against the Mets was canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests for the Mets, but the possibility remains open that the pair could play a makeup game or two on their mutual off day Monday. Judge's calf strain was always considered minor, and he reportedly never wanted to head to the injured list, so it's no surprise to see that he's expected to be ready to go.
Aug 20, 2020
Resumes running bases
Judge (calf) took part in some running drills on the bases and in right field Thursday, David Lennon of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Based on Lennon's observations, Judge looked to be moving well during the short-burst sprints, offering another sign of optimism that he'll be ready to return from the injured list Saturday when first eligible. While the Yankees would ideally want to ensure that Judge's calf doesn't present any issues for him in the outfield, the team would have the luxury of initially using him as their designated hitter while Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) is sidelined.
Aug 18, 2020
Takes batting practice
Judge (calf) took batting practice Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge is eligible to come off the injured list Saturday, and the Yankees remain hopeful that he'll be able to do so. His calf strain never appeared to be all that serious even with the trip to the injured list, as he said Monday that he already felt 100 percent.
Aug 16, 2020
Feels 100%
Judge will resume hitting Monday and already feels 100% recovered from the calf strain that landed him on the injured list, Sweeny Murti of Sports Radio 66 WFAN reports.
ANALYSIS
It sounds like the Yankees placed Judge on the IL out of an abundance of caution as the slugger indicated that he "begged" the organization to give him a few days off rather than sideline him for 10 days, per James Wagner of The New York Times. Judge suggested that the calf issue sprung up as a consequence of the turf in Tampa Bay and said that he will switch from cleats to tennis shoes while playing defense in the park in the future. Given Judge's comments, it stands to reason that he will be activated from the injured list Aug. 22 after a minimum stay.
Aug 14, 2020
Lands on injured list
Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a mild calf strain, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was reportedly dealing with simple "lower-body tightness," but the issue is apparently worse than that and is severe enough for him to miss at least 10 days. The Yankees don't appear to be overly concerned about the issue, describing the strain as at worst Grade 1, but there's little sense in pushing things with their oft-injured star in a season in which 16 teams make the playoffs. Mike Tauchman and Clint Frazier should see an increase in playing time in his absence.
Aug 14, 2020
Remains on bench
Judge (lower body) will remain on the bench for Friday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Lower-body tightness was the stated reason for Judge's absence Wednesday, but the issue evidently hasn't gone away even following Thursday's scheduled off day. Mike Tauchman will be the right fielder in his absence.
Aug 12, 2020
Sitting with lower-body tightness
Judge will be absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta due to lower-body tightness, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury doesn't appear to be a major one, as Judge reportedly wanted to play, but the Yankees are being overly cautious and won't want to let tightness turn into a more serious injury for a player who has dealt with his fair share of absences over his five-year career. It's not clear where precisely Judge's ailment is, with manager Aaron Boone mentioning his hips, hamstrings and calves, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. The Yankees have a scheduled off day Thursday, so two straight days of rest could be enough for Judge to return to action Friday against Boston.
Aug 12, 2020
Crushes ninth homer
Judge went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Braves.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old launched a 432-foot shot to center field during the fifth inning and was lifted for a pinch hitter for the following frame, but according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, manager Aaron Boone just wanted to get him off his feet coming out of a four-game series on the turf in Tampa Bay. Judge owns a .290/.343/.758 slash line through 17 games and leads the majors with nine home runs.
Aug 8, 2020
Notches eighth homer
Judge went 4-for-8 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI as the Yankees split Saturday's doubleheader with the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Friday's series opener, but he returned to form in Saturday's twin bill. Judge has a .309/.356/.782 slash line and a league-leading eight homers and 19 RBI.
Aug 6, 2020
Gets breather
Judge is not in Thursday's lineup against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Judge will get a well-deserved breather after starting the first 11 games of the season, going 13-for-42 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored over that stretch. Mike Tauchman is starting in right field and hitting leadoff Thursday.
Aug 6, 2020
Clubs seventh homer Wednesday
Judge went 2-for-7 with a three-run home run during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old had his homer streak stopped at five games Tuesday, but he picked up right where he left off with the three-run shot during the bottom of the seventh in the matinee, forcing the Phillies to burn closer Hector Neris in what was previously a blowout. Judge has a .310/.370/.857 slash line with seven homers, 12 runs and 17 RBI through 11 games.
Aug 2, 2020
Homer streak at five games
Judge went 2-for-4 with two homers, five RBI and a walk in Sunday's 9-7 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Judge now has six long balls during his five-game homer streak. His first blast, a three-run homer to left field, gave the Yankees a 3-2 lead in the second inning. He then went deeper on a two-run blast in the eighth that put them ahead for good. Judge is up to six homers, 14 RBI, and 10 runs scored with a .290/.371/.903 slash line through eight games.
Aug 2, 2020
Extends homer streak to four games
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old opened the scoring during the first inning Saturday, as he crushed a two-strike breaking ball 455 feet to left field. It's Judge's fourth straight game with a home run, and he now has nine RBI on the season. He also has 11 strikeouts and one walk through 30 plate appearances.
Aug 1, 2020
Homers in third straight game
Judge went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and two strikeouts in Friday's win against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Judge struggled with strikeouts once again Friday, but he made up for it with his third home run in as many games. The slugger put the Yankees ahead with his two-run homer in the third inning as the team eventually secured a 5-1 victory. Judge has a .974 OPS with eight RBI and 10 strikeouts to begin the season.
Jul 30, 2020
Goes yard again
Judge went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Judge came through with a clutch, game-winning home run in the top of the ninth inning. It was his second long ball of the season, and his second in as many games. While he's striking out at a 36 percent clip, Judge has flashed his ability for power production early on this season.
Jul 30, 2020
Blasts first homer of 2020
Judge went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while scoring three times in Wednesday's win over Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Judge blasted a 386-foot homer to left field in the third inning to stake New York to a 3-1 lead. He added a run-scoring single in the sixth inning and also reached base via catcher's interference and on a hit-by-pitch. The big game was a nice turnaround for Judge after he went 0-for-9 with three strikeouts over his previous two games.
Jul 21, 2020
Goes deep again
Judge went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Monday's 2-2 exhibition tie against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Judge's homer will go down as a statistical oddity since it came after three outs had already been recorded in the inning as a result of an agreement between the two squads. The slugger is firing on all cylinders heading into the regular season -- he has now crushed three homers in the last two exhibition games.
Jul 20, 2020
Puts on power display
Judge hit a pair of home runs Sunday in the Yankees' 6-0 exhibition victory over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Though he missed all of spring training with a fractured rib and four days of summer camp with a stiff neck, Judge looks like he'll be ready to go for Thursday's season opener versus the Nationals. The outfielder returned to the intrasquad lineup last Wednesday and hit a home run in that contest before adding two more long balls to his ledger Sunday. Judge's health remains a valid concern after he missed at least 50 games in both of the past two seasons, but his fantasy managers can at least install in him in their lineups with some level of confidence to begin the 2020 campaign.
Jul 16, 2020
Likely to be ready by Opening Day
Judge (neck) homered in an intrasquad game Wednesday and is expected to be good to go for Opening Day, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge sat out the team's previous three intrasquad contests while dealing with a stiff neck, but he was able to play right field in Wednesday's contest. The slugger homered off James Paxton in the first inning and worked a walk against Paxton his second time up. Manager Aaron Boone expressed confidence that Judge has practiced enough to be ready for Opening Day, with the Yankees set to face the Nationals on July 23.
Jul 14, 2020
Progressing toward return
Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Judge is feeling "much better today," Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was absent from the lineup for Tuesday's intrasquad game, but he was in the outfield shagging balls in batting practice after the game. Judge also participated in batting practice earlier Tuesday, so he appears to be nearing his return from the bout of neck stiffness that has limited him over the past few days.
Jul 14, 2020
Won't play in intrasquad game
Judge (neck) is not in the lineup for the Yankees' intrasquad game Tuesday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge showed up to camp healthy after recovering from a fractured rib that dated back to the end of last season, but he's been dealing with a stiff neck over the last few days. He was able to take batting practice Tuesday, a good sign for his Opening Day availability, but he'll wait at least one more day before returning to game action.
Jul 14, 2020
Returns to field
Judge (neck) was back on the field Tuesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was held off the field the past two days while dealing with neck stiffness, but he was able to return Tuesday and take batting practice. It's unclear whether he'll be in the lineup for Tuesday's intrasquad game. While it's possible that the Yankees could exercise caution with their star right fielder in the coming days, Judge's health appears to be trending in the right direction.
Jul 13, 2020
Takes swings Monday
Judge (neck) was feeling better Monday and was able to take some swings, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been limited over the past several days while battling neck stiffness, but he had a better range of motion Monday and was able to work in the batting cage and in the weight room. Manager Aaron Boone was unsure whether Judge would be able to play in Tuesday's intrasquad game, but the 27-year-old's progression Monday was certainly an encouraging step.
Jul 12, 2020
Could return Tuesday
Judge (neck) could return for Tuesday's intrasquad matchup, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was scratched from Saturday's intrasquad lineup with neck stiffness and was held out again Sunday since his neck was "still a little stiff." However, manager Aaron Boone was hopeful that the right fielder will be able to return Tuesday. The team doesn't sound too concerned about the injury with Opening Day just under two weeks away.
Jul 12, 2020
Out of Sunday's lineup
Judge (neck) is not in the lineup for Sunday's simulated game, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
His neck is "still a little stiff", according to manager Aaron Boone. The injury is not considered serious, but it's a situation we will continue to track as Opening Day nears. Zack Granite and Estevan Florial are the two right fielders for Sunday's intrasquad affair.
Jul 11, 2020
Neck issue not seen as serious
Judge's stiff neck isn't considered a big deal, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was seemingly healthy at the start of camp after recovering from a stress fracture in his rib, an issue which dated back to the end of the 2019 season. It's not clear that the neck stiffness which caused him to skip Saturday's intrasquad game is related to that issue, and manager Aaron Boone wasn't overly concerned, saying, "It just locked up on him. Hopeful he can be in there tomorrow. I don't expect it to be a long-term thing."
Jul 11, 2020
Dealing with stiff neck
Judge was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's intrasquad game due to a stiff neck, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge showed up to camp seemingly fully healthy after finally getting past the fractured rib he suffered back at the end of last season. The neck issue appears to be unrelated, though it's possible it's linked to his previous problems in some way. The severity of the setback remains to be seen.
Jul 6, 2020
Feels game ready
Judge said he is game ready and feeling good after starting in right field and betting second in Monday's intrasquad game, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge added that the biggest thing leading up to Opening Day is getting the reps in and getting his timing down. He grounded out to third and struck out swinging in his two at-bats Monday. After being diagnosed in early March with a stress fracture in his first right rib, the 28-year-old slugger looks to be near full strength as the Yankees July 23 opener against Max Scherzer and the Nationals draws closer.
Jul 6, 2020
Starting in intrasquad game
Judge (ribs) is starting in right field and hitting second in Monday's intrasquad game.
ANALYSIS
He faced live pitching and swung without pain last week and is apparently ready for full game action, albeit in a controlled environment. The intrasquad game will be broadcast on YES Network, so there should be plenty of follow-up video and reports later this evening.
Jul 4, 2020
Said to be "pain-free"
Judge (rib) is swinging without pain, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Though the report on Judge's health comes from a less-than-expert source -- teammate Gerrit Cole -- it nonetheless inspires more optimism that the slugger is over the hump in his recovery from a right rib fracture and will be ready to take the field on Opening Day. Cole's observation does come from firsthand experience; the Yankees' ace pitched to Judge in a simulated game on Thursday.
Jul 2, 2020
Faces live pitching
Judge (rib) took live batting practice Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This encouraging step in Judge's rehab comes shortly after it was reported that the Yankees are "very optimistic" about the slugger's status for the start of the season. The outfielder still has some hurdles to clear before any final determination is made regarding his Opening Day availability, but things are trending in the right direction.
Jul 1, 2020
Set to face live pitching
Judge has hit off a machine and will face live pitching early in summer camp, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
These details help explain why the Yankees are reportedly "very optimistic" that Judge will be ready to play by Opening Day. News on Judge's progress from a right rib fracture has been sparse during the shutdown of play, with reports surfacing only recently that Judge had begun hitting off a tee. Given the nature of the slugger's injury, it seems likely that he'll be able to play at the start of the season if he is, in fact, able to face live pitching within the next week or two.
Jun 30, 2020
Cashman 'very optimistic right now'
General manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday that the team is "very optimistic right now" that Judge can be ready for Opening Day, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's status has been a big question mark since it was revealed back in March that he had a stress fracture in his right rib. It just recently came to light that Judge also had a partially collapsed lung, per James Wagner of The New York Times. As of last week, Judge was still just hitting baseballs off a tee, so he has many hurdles yet to clear before any final determination is made as to his Opening Day availability.
Jun 26, 2020
Resumes swinging bat
Judge (rib) has been hitting baseballs off a tee, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Judge has yet to take part in full batting practice, his advancement to hitting off a tee is the first tangible sign of progress for the slugger since he was shut down from swinging in late February. The Yankees have privately remained optimistic that Judge will be able to take the field when the season begins in late July, and reports that he "didn't seem to be holding anything back" while swinging in the cage lend credence to this view. A better understanding of where Judge stands in his healing from a right rib fracture -- and his readiness of Opening Day -- should develop when the Yankees resume workouts next week.
Jun 24, 2020
Team optimistic on late-July return
The Yankees have privately expressed optimism that Judge (ribs) will be ready to play when the MLB season begins in late July, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Though MLB's three-plus-month shutdown has likely benefited Judge as he heals up from a fractured rib and partially deflated lung, his status for Opening Day -- which is expected to fall July 23 or 24 -- won't be determined until at some point after the Yankees resume full-team workouts next week. When the Yankees last updated Judge's status three weeks ago, the slugger had yet to swing a bat, so it's far from a given that he'll be fully recovered from the injury by the time games begin. Judge has shown in the past that he doesn't need a full season of at-bats to post big power numbers, but the high risk he has of missing games will loom larger than normal in an abbreviated campaign.
May 21, 2020
Not yet swinging
Yankees hitting coach Marcus Thames said Thursday that Judge (rib) has yet to resume swinging a bat, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports. "When the doctors turn him loose, he'll be ready," Thames said. "He's champing at the bit to get out there."
ANALYSIS
Thames' comments regarding where Judge stands in his recovery from a fractured right rib are seemingly positive, but until the slugger is able to complete some on-field work, the Yankees likely won't be able to offer a clear target date for his return to game action. General manager Brian Cashman said last week that he expects Judge to be ready to play during "summertime," but he wasn't willing to provide any specifics beyond that.
May 14, 2020
Targeting 'summertime' return
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he doesn't think Judge (rib) will be back to full health and ready to play until "summertime," Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Cashman's timeline for the star slugger is fairly vague, and the fact that the Yankees haven't pinpointed a more definitive target date for Judge's return since he was diagnosed with the fractured right rib in early March suggests he won't be a lock to play right away whenever the MLB season resumes. The Yankees might gain more clarity on Judge's timeline when he receives another CT scan next week, but until he's back on the field working out in some capacity, it may be difficult to gauge where exactly he stands in his recovery from the injury.
May 13, 2020
Next CT scan won't be last
Judge (rib) is likely to undergo another CT scan next week, and he's expected to need another after that, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
While Judge has not experienced any setbacks, the slugger remains weeks away -- and possibly longer -- from being cleared to play. On a positive note, the 28-year-old is said to be healing fine, and with Opening Day expected to take place no sooner early July, the possibility of Judge being ready to go at the start of the campaign remains feasible.
May 5, 2020
Set for another CT scan
Judge has shown "encouraging" progress in his recovery from a stress fracture in his first right rib, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and will undergo another CT scan in "a couple more weeks," Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"This time down has allowed that rib, that bone, to hopefully continue to heal," Boone stated on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM. "All signs are encouraging there and hopefully this time down allows that rib to heal properly and hopefully have him part all this as well." Boone's comments suggest that while Judge has yet to return to full health, he continues to make strides toward avoiding surgery and being ready for the potential resumption of the MLB season. That would certainly be a boon for both the Yankees and fantasy managers who initially expected the slugger to miss a significant portion of the 2020 campaign.
Apr 24, 2020
Continues to heal
Judge (rib) has remained in Tampa to rehabilitate at the Yankees' training complex and has seen continued healing in his fractured rib, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Yankees manager Aaron Boone commented on Judge's status Thursday, stating, "We're using this time, he's using this time to continue to heal. I don't really have much more for you other than, obviously, it's been very productive having the chance to have this time to allow that rib to heal. That is happening. But as for where he's at exactly, we don't have anything for you on that yet." A clear timeline for Judge's availability to take the field remains vague, but given his original hope that he could return to action by early May and the likelihood that a resumption of MLB play remains distant, it's not a stretch to believe that the slugger could be ready for Opening Day.
Apr 12, 2020
Could ramp up activity soon
Judge (rib) has been rehabbing at the Yankees' training complex in Tampa and could take the next step in his recovery soon, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge recently appeared on "The Huddle" (an Instagram Live chat with NBA star Damian Lillard), stating that he should start doing "a little bit more...in about a week or two." That's a positive sign that his rehab has been going well, though the star outfielder has not swung a bat since being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right first rib in early March.
Apr 1, 2020
Can continue to use team facility
Judge (rib) is among a small group of Yankees eligible to continue working out at the team's Tampa facility under Florida's stay-at-home order, George A. King III of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Florida governor Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the stay-at-home order will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, making most Yankees players ineligible to train at the team's Tampa complex. Judge, Giancarlo Stanton (calf) and Luis Severino (elbow) are part of a small group excluded from the policy as they are all currently rehabbing injuries. Judge was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right first rib in early March and remains weeks away from a re-evaluation, per Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger.
Mar 25, 2020
Still weeks from re-evaluation
Judge is still waiting the stress fracture in his first right rib to heal and won't be re-evaluated for a few more weeks, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury, which dates back to last September, was only diagnosed in early March. He's expected to avoid surgery, but that doesn't mean he'll be back on the field any time soon. There's no guarantee he's cleared to resume baseball activities when he's eventually re-evaluated, and once he is, he'll need a full preseason buildup before he's ready for game action. Whether he winds up ready to return before baseball itself is ready to return remains to be seen.
Mar 20, 2020
Expects to avoid surgery
Judge told reporters Friday that the delayed start to the season should mean he won't have to undergo surgery for the stress fracture in his rib, Marly Rivera of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
When tests revealed the stress fracture in Judge's first right rib in early March, he was faced with the decision to undergo surgery or hope that the issue would heal on its own with proper rest. He's so far elected to go the rest route, and a CT scan revealed Friday that the rib has indeed shown some improvement. He'll continue down that path for now, though his expected return date remains unclear.
Mar 20, 2020
Awaiting test results
Judge underwent a CT scan to evaluate how the stress fracture in his rib is healing Friday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge's return timeline remains just as up in the air as the timeline to start the regular season is. It's entirely possible he could be ready to go before the league is ready to resume play, though a clearer picture of how realistic that is won't become obvious until the results of his scan are known. The outfielder has been able to perform light activities but is primarily giving his rib time to heal.
Mar 17, 2020
Could be healthy by Opening Day
Judge (ribs) could be ready to play by the time the regular season commences, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his first right rib in early March and was immediately expected to be on the injured list at the start of the regular season. That may no longer be the case, however, given Monday's announcement by Major League Baseball that Opening Day will not take place for at least eight weeks. Still, much will depend on how Judge's rib heals and whether he'll ultimately require surgery.
Mar 12, 2020
Resumes light workouts
Judge (ribs) indicated Thursday that he's been cleared for workouts in the gym, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
While Judge won't be totally idle while he waits from his fractured rib to heal, he won't be able to resume on-field activities until doctors are satisfied with the results of his CT scans. The Yankees aren't putting a firm timeline on when Judge might be ready for game action, nor is it known at this point whether or not he'll require surgery to address the injury.
Mar 6, 2020
Tests reveal stress fracture
Judge is dealing with a stress fracture in his first right rib, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge had been out with soreness in his shoulder/pectoral area since the start of camp. He'd since resumed hitting and throwing, but the Yankees remained frustrated by their inability to discover the source of the problem. That's finally changed Friday, though drafters who took a chance on Judge despite the injury likely aren't happy to hear the news. Judge will be re-evaluated after two weeks of rest, with surgery potentially required, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. That timeline should officially rule Judge out for Opening Day, but his expected return date won't be clear until that two-week period is up.
Mar 5, 2020
Still eyeing Opening Day return
Judge (pectoral/shoulder) said Thursday that he's scheduled to undergo additional tests in the coming days and isn't yet willing to rule himself out for Opening Day, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since Opening Day is still three weeks away and Judge estimated that he would need only about 30 competitive at-bats in spring or simulated games to gear up for the season, the outfielder believes that the door isn't closed on him being ready by late March, even though general manager Brian Cashman admitted that it's an unlikely outcome. Before Judge can even resume workouts, however, doctors will first need to determine the exact nature of his injury. More clarity on that front could come after the latest round of tests, but for now, the Yankees are describing Judge's injury as right shoulder and right pectoral discomfort.
Mar 4, 2020
Soreness shifts to pectoral
Judge's soreness has shifted from his right shoulder to his right pectoral muscle, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Team doctors have thus far been unable to identify the cause of Judge's pain, resulting in more tests and an uncertain timeline for the star outfielder. With Opening Day just over three weeks away, Yankees officials -- including general manager Brian Cashman -- have expressed the expectation that Judge will not be ready for the start of the season.
Mar 3, 2020
Unlikely to play Opening Day
Judge (shoulder) is unlikely to be ready to play by Opening Day, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge continues to go through tests on his sore shoulder, which have so far revealed no significant injuries. He's scheduled for two more tests Tuesday. The outfielder has been able to throw and hit, but the soreness persists while hitting. At this point, even if the tests continue to show no major injury, the team isn't optimistic that he can be properly built up to regular-season form by Opening Day. Just how long he's expected to be out past that date remains to be seen.
Mar 1, 2020
Optimism abounds Sunday
Judge (shoulder) was "doing better" Sunday after working with the training staff Saturday, Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Aaron Boone expressed optimism about Judge's shoulder issue Sunday, though he couldn't provide clarity about what inspired the positive outlook aside from stating "It's just how I'm feeling." Per Boone, Judge's discomfort -- which is located near his armpit -- has not surfaced while throwing and is only present when he swings a bat. There's still a chance Judge could be ready for Opening Day, though the team's inability to pinpoint the cause of the outfielder's discomfort suggests he won't be getting into a game anytime soon.
Feb 29, 2020
MRI negative despite new discomfort
Judge (shoulder) underwent an MRI, which came back negative, after feeling more discomfort following a hitting session Friday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been battling a shoulder problem all camp, though the latest round of discomfort was reportedly near his pectoral muscle. Despite his MRI showing no issues, he's scheduled for more tests Monday. Manager Aaron Boone remains optimistic that the slugger will be in his Opening Day lineup, but Judge remains without a clear timetable for now.
Feb 29, 2020
Undergoing tests
Judge is undergoing tests on his sore shoulder and has no timetable for getting into Grapefruit League action, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been dealing with a shoulder issue since the start of camp. He was briefly shut down from hitting, and while he's since resumed taking indoor batting practice, the Yankees evidently aren't completely happy with his progress. A clearer picture of his timeline should emerge once the results of the tests are known.
Feb 28, 2020
Advances to indoor batting practice
Judge (shoulder) took indoor batting practice Friday for the second straight day, Pete Caldera of NorthJersey.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The activity is a progression from the soft-toss that Judge took part in earlier in the week, though the outfielder has yet to hit on the field. Should he move up to that level in the coming days, Judge could see game action at the end of next week.
Feb 25, 2020
Could play next week
Judge (shoulder) could make his spring debut next week, Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been dealing with shoulder soreness since the start of camp. He's been able to hit soft toss and play catch from 90 feet, but the Yankees are understandably building him up slowly this spring. There haven't been any indications that Judge's readiness for Opening Day is seriously threatened, but there's little reason not to be cautious with a player who has averaged just 107 games over the last two seasons.
Feb 25, 2020
Plays soft toss Monday
Judge (shoulder) hit off a tee and threw from 90 feet Monday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has now hit off a tee four consecutive days, and the fact that his daily routine includes throwing suggests that he is progressing from the right shoulder injury that has hampered his start to spring training. While manager Aaron Boone indicated that there is no date set for Judge to play in a game, his status for Opening Day remains optimistic.
Feb 21, 2020
Hits off tee
Judge (shoulder) hit off an indoor tee Friday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
The original reports surrounding Judge's shoulder soreness held that he'd be shut down from hitting for about a week, but he's back in the cage just three days later. His availability for Opening Day doesn't appear to be at risk.
Feb 20, 2020
Set to resume hitting
Judge (shoulder) will resume his hitting program Friday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge was shut down earlier in the week due to shoulder soreness, but he's expected to ramp things up Friday after taking some time off to rest and recover. The outfielder will hit in the cage before ultimately progressing to live batting practice. Assuming his return to hitting goes off without a hitch, Judge should be ready to make his spring debut at some point next week or in early March.
Feb 20, 2020
Still not ready for BP
Judge (shoulder) didn't take part in batting practice during Thursday's workout, George A. King III of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he was held out of hitting drills for the third day in a row, Judge isn't being shut down completely while he works through the sore right shoulder. He played catch from a distance of about 90 feet Wednesday, and manager Aaron Boone said Judge should be ready to resume swinging a bat within the next couple of days. Assuming the discomfort in Judge's shoulder subsides as anticipated, he should be ready to make his Grapefruit League debut at some point next week or in early March.
Feb 19, 2020
To hit again soon
Judge (shoulder) will return to swinging within the next couple days, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The news contradicts previous reports which suggested that Judge wouldn't swing a bat for a full week. The outfielder's start to camp has been delayed while he receives maintenance for a sore shoulder, but his readiness for Opening Day doesn't appear to be at risk.
Feb 19, 2020
Plays catch Wednesday
Judge (shoulder) was spotted throwing from 90 feet while playing catch with teammate Brett Gardner during Wednesday's full-squad workout, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees barred Judge from playing catch a day earlier as a matter of maintenance for his sore right shoulder, so Wednesday's activity represents a small step forward for the slugger. Ackert also notes that Judge took part in outfield drills, though he wasn't throwing to the infield after shagging flyballs. Judge should gradually increase his throwing distance along with the intensity of his workouts in the days to come, and at this point, there's seemingly little concern that he'll be at risk of missing Opening Day. His Grapefruit League debut will likely be delayed while he works through the shoulder issue, however.
Feb 18, 2020
Shut down from hitting
Judge's shoulder soreness is considered minor, but he's shut down from hitting for about a week and won't play in the Yankees' spring opener Saturday against Toronto, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge has been feeling soreness for a few weeks, but an MRI didn't reveal any major issues. The outfielder's start to the regular season isn't expected to be delayed, and the Yankees are framing the issue as simply an abundance of caution, but it's certainly not a good sign to see Judge's shoulder barking already at the start of camp.
Feb 18, 2020
Getting maintenance for shoulder
Manager Aaron Boone said that Judge will receive continued maintenance for his right shoulder and won't take batting practice Tuesday in the Yankees' first full-squad workout of spring training, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Judge is still scheduled to participate in most of the Yankees' other on-field drills Tuesday, so the club's decision to hold him out of batting practice looks to be mainly precautionary in nature. The slugger jammed his right shoulder in a Sept. 18 game against the Angels last season but missed only one game on account of the injury and didn't require anything more than rest and rehab to address the matter over the winter.
Jan 10, 2020
Settles with Yankees
Judge signed a one-year contract with New York on Friday, avoiding arbitration.
ANALYSIS
The team has yet to reveal the terms of the deal, but Judge and the Yankees will avoid a hearing by reaching an agreement. He was limited to 102 games in 2019 due to injury, hitting 27 homers and driving in 55 runs over that stretch.

Back in lineup as DH
Judge (shoulder) will serve as the designated hitter and bat second Friday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Judge was out of the lineup for the series finale against the Angels after landing on his shoulder while making a diving catch Wednesday, but the Yankees said the decision to hold him out was precautionary. While he will not return to the field Friday, Judge will be able to DH and should be available for the entire weekend series. The 27-year-old is batting .204/.338/.500 so far in September.
