Inks seven-year deal with Philly
Nola and the Phillies agreed to a seven-year, $172 million contract Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillies GM Dave Dombrowski indicated the organization's top priority this offseason was re-signing Nola, and the two sides didn't take long to come to terms on a long-term deal. The 30-year-old right-hander's 4.46 ERA in 2023 was a bit underwhelming, but he's been one of the more reliable pitchers in baseball over the past six years with at least 32 starts in each full season. He's also topped 200 strikeouts in each of those campaigns and appears poised to finish out his career in Philadelphia.

Works six scoreless in win
Nola allowed three hits over six scoreless innings to earn the win in Tuesday's 10-0 victory over the Diamondbacks in Game 2 of the NLCS. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Nola followed up a solid outing against Atlanta in the NLDS with another gem, this time taking advantage of a quiet Diamondbacks offense to cover the bulk of a shutout. Key for Nola in this contest was the success of commanding his curveball, which averaged a 32.7 called plus swinging-strike percentage during the regular season, but was up to a 39 percent mark in Tuesday's start. In the playoffs so far, the right-hander has a tidy 0.96 ERA and 0.75 WHIP with 19 strikeouts across 18.2 innings.

Lining up for playoffs
Nola won't pitch again during the regular season and is expected to start Game 2 of the NL Wild Card Round next Wednesday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Philadelphia's playoff seed is stable for the No. 1 wild-card spot, so it's not a surprise Nola's turn through the rotation will be skipped this weekend. The right-hander ended up making his final start of the regular season Tuesday versus Pittsburgh, and he allowed just one run and struck out eight in 6.2 frames. Nola closes out the campaign with a 4.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 202:45 K:BB across 193.2 innings.
Sep 26, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Nola did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks over 6.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Nola looked great Tuesday night against a feeble Pirates lineup, posting his third consecutive start allowing two or fewer earned runs. Over that span, the free-agent-to-be has thrown 17.1 innings to the tune of a 2.07 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 17:1 K:BB. Nola looks to finish the season strong in his last start, currently scheduled to be against the Mets in New York.

Fans eight in quality start
Nola did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings against Atlanta while not issuing any walks. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Nola went 1-2-3 through the first three innings before allowing three hits in the fourth, which led to one run coming across for Atlanta. He surrendered another run in the fifth on an RBI single from Nicky Lopez, marking the right-hander's second consecutive start with two runs allowed. It was also Nola's first time this month in which he made it through six innings (spanning four starts) and he still carries a 6.86 ERA in September, even following Wednesday's quality start. On a positive note, he also holds a 20:4 K:BB this month.
Sep 15, 2023
Yields three runs
Nola allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings in Friday's win over the Cardinals. He struck out one and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola would've been in line for a win but couldn't finish the fifth inning after throwing 97 pitches. He's failed to complete five innings in three straight starts, posting an 8.56 ERA during that span. His season ERA sits at 4.62 with a 186:45 K:BB through 181 innings. Nola's next matchup is currently expected to be in Atlanta.

Hit hard in no-decision
Nola came away with a no-decision Saturday in the Phillies' 8-4 win over the Marlins, giving up four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies staked the veteran right-hander to an early 5-0 lead, but Nola nearly gave it all back in the top of the fifth as he got tagged for five straight hits before getting the hook -- a collapse that included three doubles and a Garrett Hampson solo shot. Nola has now failed to complete five innings in back-to-back starts -- a worrying trend for the 30-year-old as Philly tries to lock down a playoff spot -- and since the All-Star break he's stumbled to a 5.18 ERA in 57.1 innings while serving up 10 homers, despite an otherwise solid 1.27 WHIP and 65:14 K:BB. He'll look to rebound in his next outing, likely to come next weekend in St. Louis.
Sep 3, 2023
Bounced by Brewers
Nola (12-9) took the loss Saturday, coughing up seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 4.2 innings as the Phillies fell 7-5 to the Brewers. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Five of the eight hits off Nola went for extra bases, including a two-run blast by Carlos Santana in the fifth inning that helped chase the right-hander from the game. Nola saw his three-game win streak snapped, while the seven runs were the most he'd allowed since he got tagged for eight by Arizona just over a year ago. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, likely to come at home next weekend against the Marlins.
Aug 27, 2023
Dominant against St. Louis
Nola (12-8) earned the win Sunday, allowing one hit and one walk over seven scoreless innings against the Cardinals. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
Nola was at his best Sunday, allowing just two men to reach base while going seven innings in a consecutive start. It's the third straight win for Nola, who's worked to a 2.63 ERA over his last four outings (24 innings). He lowered his ERA to 4.30 on the season with a 1.12 WHIP and 174:41 K:BB across 27 starts (167.1 innings) this season. Nola will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Milwaukee.
Aug 21, 2023
Goes seven innings in win
Nola (11-8) earned the win Monday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk over seven innings against the Giants. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
It was a shaky start for Nola, allowing a pair of runs in his first three innings. However, he rebounded to blank the Giants over his subsequent four frames while allowing just one more hit. It was a much-needed effort from the 30-year-old Nola, who had struggled to a 6.75 ERA over his previous four starts. Overall, Nola sports a 4.49 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP and 165:40 K:BB across 26 starts (160.1 innings) this season. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Cardinals in his next outing.
Aug 17, 2023
Fans seven in win No. 10
Nola (10-8) picked up the win Wednesday, giving up four runs on four hits and four walks over five innings in a 9-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
An anticipated pitchers' duel between Nola and Kevin Gausman never materialized, but the Phillies' right-hander came away with his first win since July 18 thanks to an offensive outburst highlighted by Bryce Harper's first multi-homer game of the year. The four free passes were a season worst for Nola, who has now failed to last six innings in four straight starts while stumbling to a 6.75 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB through 20 innings over that stretch. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, likely to come at home early next week against the Giants.
Aug 11, 2023
Solid in no-decision
Nola did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over five innings against Washington. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
After clunkers in his previous two starts, Nola got back on track Thursday, working into the sixth inning before back-to-back singles led to his removal with the score tied 0-0. Phillies reliever, Matt Strahm, then allowed an RBI double to Ildemaro Vargas, marking Nola's only charged run. In five outings since the All-Star break, the 30-year-old fantasy stalwart holds a 1-2 record with a 4.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 29.1 innings during that stretch. He is currently slated to face Toronto on the road next week.
Aug 5, 2023
Struggles in loss
Nola (9-8) took the loss Friday, allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk over 5.1 innings against Kansas City. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The eight strikeouts were a silver lining in an otherwise disappointing outing for Nola, who was on track for the victory having allowed only two runs through the first five innings. Things then fell apart for the Phillies ace in the sixth when he allowed a solo home run to lead off the frame, followed by a double and a walk. Nola was pulled and both runners went on to score, saddling him with his eighth loss. Nola will look to rebound next week when he gets a likely home start against the Nationals.
Jul 30, 2023
Beat up in loss
Nola (9-7) took the loss Saturday, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Nola appeared to be on track for a solid outing Saturday, striking out four of the first six batters he faced through two scoreless innings to open the game. However, the right-hander would then go on to surrender a leadoff home run to Liover Peguero to open the bottom of third before allowing another six runs over the following two innings. It marked Nola's fourth start this season in which he's allowed at least five earned runs and just the second time that he was unable to make it through five innings. On a positive note, he's now recorded at least six strikeouts in five straight starts to only four walks.
Jul 24, 2023
Allows two homers in quality start
Nola did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits over seven innings against the Guardians. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Nola struggled with power Sunday, surrendering solo homers to Steven Kwan and Andres Gimenez to mark his third time allowing multiple home runs in his last five starts. Despite giving up a pair of homers, Nola fanned seven batters to notch his fourth consecutive outing with at least six K's. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start during a three-game road series against the Pirates this weekend.
Jul 18, 2023
Picks up ninth win
Nola (9-6) earned the win against the Brewers on Tuesday after he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and no walks over 7.1 innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander threw 71 of his 98 pitches for a strike and induced 18 whiffs as he didn't surrender any home runs for just the fourth time through 20 starts this year. The long ball has been a problem for Nola in 2023 with 21 homers allowed after he gave up just 19 all of last season. The 30-year-old has a 4.27 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 126:30 K:BB across 126.1 innings and tentatively lines up to next take the mound this weekend in Cleveland.
Jul 9, 2023
Serves up three homers in Miami
Nola (8-6) was charged with the loss Sunday against the Marlins after he gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and no walks across six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
It was an unceremonious close to the first half for Nola, as he surrendered three home runs in a start for the second time this season. The right-hander entered Sunday's contest having won three of his past four outings, but he's now allowed at least four earned runs in 10 of his 19 starts this year. Nola enters the All-Star break with an underwhelming 4.39 ERA though 119 innings, though his 1.11 WHIP and 120:30 K:BB provide some reason for optimism.
Jul 5, 2023
Dominant against Tampa Bay
Nola (8-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk over 7.1 innings in a 3-1 win over the Rays. He struck out 12.
ANALYSIS
Nola came out on the winning end of a pitchers duel, besting Zach Eflin, who gave up two runs and struck out nine across seven innings, to claim his eighth win of the campaign. Nola tied his season high in strikeouts and carried a shutout into the eighth inning but surrendered a solo homer to Wander Franco and was pulled. The 30-year-old has been battling some severe inconsistencies across his last six starts, allowing one or fewer earned runs in three starts but surrendering at least four runs in the other three. The primary cause of his struggles has been the long ball, as Nola has surrendered 18 homers through 18 appearances, tied for the eighth most in baseball. However, he's lined up to make his next start against the Marlins, who rank 24th in home runs per game.
Jun 29, 2023
Notches unspectacular victory
Nola (7-5) earned the win over the Cubs on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola recorded his shortest outing since going just 3.2 frames in his Opening Day start versus Texas, and he needed 97 pitches to get through five frames. However, the Phillies supported him with plenty of runs, allowing the right-hander to pick up his third win over his past five starts. Despite the victory, Nola's outing was mostly forgettable -- he snapped a 13-game streak of completing at least six innings and tallied his lowest strikeout total since May 14. His ERA is up to 4.51 on the campaign, a significant drop-off from the 3.25 mark he posted last season.
Jun 22, 2023
Six shutout frames in no-decision
Nola didn't factor in the decision in Thursday's extra-inning loss to Atlanta after he gave up two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Nola produced just eight swinging strikes but was able to keep Atlanta off the board, which is his first scoreless outing in 16 starts this year. The 30-year-old entered Thursday's contest with a 5.34 ERA across his previous five starts. He tentatively projects to take the mound next week on the road versus the Cubs.
Jun 21, 2023
Wednesday start postponed
Nola won't start as scheduled Wednesday against Atlanta because the game has been postponed due to rain, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola's turn in the rotation will presumably now come Thursday, and Wednesday's game will be made up sometime in September. The 30-year-old righty holds a 4.50 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 28 strikeouts through 20 innings since the beginning of June.
Jun 16, 2023
Strikes out nine in win
Nola (6-5) earned the win Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
All of the damage against Nola came in the bottom of the third, where he allowed three consecutive hits to open the inning before eventually surrendering a three-run home run to Ketel Marte. He rebounded nicely, however, striking out the side in the very next inning as the Phillies' offense retook the lead. The right-hander has allowed at least four runs in six of his last nine starts, though he's now racked up 28 strikeouts through three June starts to only six walks.
Jun 11, 2023
Struggles Saturday
Nola (5-5) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 6.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Nola surrendered a season-high six runs but still completed at least six innings for an 11th straight start and posted seven or more strikeouts for the fourth time this year. The veteran right-hander's less-than-ideal 4.60 ERA clouds the fact that his WHIP (1.10) and K:BB (84:23) are very solid through 14 starts (88 innings). Regardless, it's still been a disappointing beginning to the campaign for Nola, who finished 2022 with a 3.25 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 235:29 K:BB across 32 appearances (205 innings).
Jun 5, 2023
Fans 12 in win
Nola (5-4) allowed three unearned runs on one hit and three walks over seven innings Monday, striking out 12 and earning a win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Nola carried a no-hitter through 6.2 frames before coughing up a three-run homer. He wasn't tagged with any earned runs though, dropping his ERA to 4.30 after his best outing of the year. The 30-year-old also forced a season-high 21 swinging strikes, including 10 with his fastball. Prior to Monday's outing, Nola had allowed at least four runs in three of his last four appearances. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Dodgers this weekend.
Jun 1, 2023
Falls to 4-4 with loss
Nola (4-4) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five batters over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola would have likely had better results if not for the presence of Mark Canha, who knocked in all four runs against the veteran hurler. There were some things to like about Nola's performance -- he allowed just one extra-base hit and extended his streak of pitching six-plus innings to nine games -- but he also tied a season high with three walks and struck out just five batters. The right-hander's ability to pitch deep into games has been an asset for Philadelphia, but his overall numbers are a drop-off compared to last season. On the campaign, he's posting a 4.70 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 65:18 K:BB across 74.2 frames.
May 26, 2023
Serves up three homers Thursday
Nola allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over six innings in a no-decision against Atlanta on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Nola racked up 20 swinging strikes and seven punchouts, but he had trouble keeping the ball in the yard. Austin Riley -- who has victimized Nola for five homers over 48 career at-bats -- hit a pair of long balls against the right-hander, and Marcell Ozuna tagged him for another. Nola has given up at least one homer in seven straight starts, though this was the first time this season he's yielded multiple home runs in a game.
May 21, 2023
Season-high 10 strikeouts
Nola (4-3) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over seven innings during a 12-3 win over the Cubs. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
Nola got early run support and recorded a season-high 10 strikeouts while cruising through sevens innings en route to his fourth win. The lone blemish for the right-hander came via a two-run home run from Dansby Swanson, which continues to be a minor issue for Nola. He's allowed at least one home run in eight of his 10 starts and holds a 4.31 ERA across 62.2 innings. However, Nola's 1.07 WHIP and 53:13 K:BB to start the year remains elite and suggests the ERA will drop eventually.
May 14, 2023
Yields four runs in loss
Nola (3-3) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings, taking the loss Sunday versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Nola has gone at least six innings in seven of his nine starts this season. He lacked run support Sunday, leading to his first lost since April 11. The right-hander has maintained a pedestrian 4.53 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 43:12 K:BB through 55.2 innings this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Cubs in his next outing.
May 10, 2023
Sharp in Tuesday's win
Nola (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in an 8-4 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The veteran right-hander appears to be warming up along with the weather. Nola's four-seam fastball averaged a season-high 93 mph in this outing and topped out at 95 mph, easing concerns about his April velocity, and he's delivered five quality starts in his eight trips to the mound in 2023. He'll take a 4.44 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 39:11 K:BB through 48.2 innings into his next outing, which is likely to come this weekend in Coors Field.
May 3, 2023
No decision in Phillies loss
Nola did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits over 6.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Nola pitched well for most of Wednesday's outing, but his streak of three consecutive quality starts was snapped after Chris Taylor tripled in the seventh inning and scored on Freddie Freeman's sacrifice fly. While Nola sports an unsightly 4.64 ERA, a solid 1.13 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB would indicate that positive regression is coming. He's currently lined up to face the Blue Jays at home in his next outing.
Apr 29, 2023
Pitches gem in win
Nola (2-2) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings against the Astros. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
Nola had his best start of the season by far, as his only blemish was giving up a solo home run to Jeremy Pena in this 107-pitch masterpiece. The right-hander tossed seven innings in his previous appearance on April 21st against Colorado, so he appears to be settling in after a rough start to the season. The 29-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Dodgers on the road in his next start.
Apr 28, 2023
Dominates in win
Nola (2-2) earned the win Friday, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings against the Astros. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Nola provided his best start of the season in a World Series rematch. The righty posted season-best numbers in innings pitched, strike outs, runs allowed and hits allowed. Nola lowered his ERA to 4.46 and picked up his second win of 2023.
Apr 22, 2023
Settles down after shaky first
Nola did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings during a 4-3 win over the Rockies. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed back-to-back, one-out singles to Kris Bryant and Charlie Blackmon in the first before serving up a three-run shot to Ryan McMahon with two outs. However, that was the only damage Colorado could muster against the right-hander, who cruised through six shutout frames after his shaky first. After walking just three batters through his first three starts, Nola has given up three walks in back-to-back starts, and he currently sports a 5.40 ERA with a modest 22:9 K:BB through five starts (28.1 innings).
Apr 16, 2023
Picks up first win
Nola (1-2) earned the win Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in six innings during a 14-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Nola was handed a nine-run lead after the top of the first, and the veteran right-hander took advantage by limiting damage while cruising through six innings, notching his first win and second quality start. Through four outings (21.1 innings), Nola's ERA sits at 5.91, but he has a strong 19:6 K:BB. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Philadelphia's upcoming four-game set versus Colorado.
Apr 12, 2023
Stuck with second loss
Nola (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings as the Phillies fell 8-4 to the Marlins. He struck out six without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
It was an ominous sign for Nola when light-hitting Jon Berti took him deep for a solo shot in the third inning, but the right-hander didn't allow another run until the wheels came off in the sixth. He exited after 100 pitches (70 strikes), and while Nola's 7.04 ERA through his first three starts looks rough, it comes with a 15:3 K:BB through 15.1 innings that should reassure GMs that have him rostered. The 29-year-old will look for a better result in his next outing, likely to come this weekend in Cincinnati.
Apr 5, 2023
Efficient in loss
Nola (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on seven hits with one walk through six innings against the Yankees. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Nola's outing was undoubtedly an improvement compared to his previous performance on Opening Day. The right-hander was tagged with a run in the first inning, but he kept the Yankees scoreless until the sixth inning and would eventually depart after his only walk of the game plated a third earned run in the seventh. While Nola still has yet to make it into the win column, he is trending in the right direction. The 29-year-old displayed better command throwing 62 of his 87 pitches for strikes and did a better job of staying ahead in his counts. Nola is tentatively scheduled to start Tuesday against the Marlins.
Mar 31, 2023
Unravels in fourth inning
Nola allowed five earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Rangers. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola out-dueled Jacob deGrom for much of his outing, as he blanked the Rangers through three frames. However, things deteriorated quickly in the fourth inning when he allowed five of the first six batters he faced to reach base. That stretch culminated with a three-run homer by Robbie Grossman. Nola is coming off an excellent 2022 season during which he posted a 3.25 ERA and 0.96 WHIP, so there's no need to panic over one poor outing to begin the new campaign.
Mar 24, 2023
Gets another Opening Day start
Nola has been named the Phillies' Opening Day starter.
ANALYSIS
It will be the sixth straight season that he's taken the ball on Opening Day. The Phillies are hoping it won't be his last, with Nola slated to hit free agency after the season. He'll square off against the Rangers and Jacob deGrom on March 30.
Feb 17, 2023
Engaged in extension talks
Nola and the Phillies have begun negotiations on a potential long-term contract extension, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola is locked in at a $16 million salary for 2023, but he's currently scheduled to reach free agency once this year's postseason concludes. Gelb writes that there "appears to be momentum for an agreement sometime this spring" and notes that Nola reiterated on Friday that his desire is to remain with Philadelphia for the foreseeable future. The 29-year-old right-hander registered a stellar 3.25 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 235:29 K:BB across 205 regular-season innings (32 starts) last year for the NL champs.
Nov 7, 2022
Option for '23 picked up
The Phillies exercised Nola's $16 million team option for 2023 on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola has held up to his end of the bargain and then some since signing a four-year, $45 million extension with the Phillies in March 2019, with the 16.1 WAR he's accumulated over that four-season stretch placing him sixth among all MLB pitchers. The 29-year-old right-hander will once again be back with the Phillies at a team-friendly rate in 2023 before he hits free agency for the first time next winter. The Phillies could look to negotiate with Nola on a long-term deal in the months to come to ensure he doesn't make it to the open market next offseason.
Nov 3, 2022
Takes loss in Game 4
Nola pitched four innings and took the loss during Wednesday's 5-0 loss to the Astros in Game 4 of the World Series, allowing three runs on seven hits and zero walks while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Nola was outdueled by Astros starter Cristian Javier, who kept the Phillies hitless through six innings. The 29-year-old righty allowed three singles in a row before being removed in the fifth inning, and the bullpen was not able to help him out. Jose Alvarado hit the first batter he faced then surrendered a two-run double to Alex Bregman in what eventually became a five-run fifth inning. After two starts of six innings and zero earned runs for his first two postseason starts, Nola has now allowed at least three runs in the last three appearances while failing to get through five innings each time. He is 2-2 with a 5.36 ERA across 15.2 innings in the postseason.
Oct 29, 2022
Tagged for five runs in Game 1
Nola pitched 4.1 innings and did not factor into the decision during Friday night's Game 1 of the World Series, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five in the 6-5 win over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Nola fell victim to a stellar performance by Kyle Tucker, who tagged him for two home runs and four RBI. Other than Tucker, the Astros were just 4-for-16 with two walks against the 29-year-old righty. Nola was able to settle down after the three-run homer in the third inning made the score 5-0, retiring the next six batters and giving the Phillies a chance to make a comeback. Although the Phillies were able to come away with the win, Nola has now given up six runs and failed to reach the sixth inning in back-to-back starts.
Oct 19, 2022
Tagged for six runs in loss
Nola took the loss Wednesday afternoon after 4.2 innings of work, surrendering six runs on seven hits and zero walks while striking out six during the 8-5 defeat to the Padres in Game 2 of the NLCS.
ANALYSIS
Nola's offense gave him a 4-0 lead to work with, but a two-run second inning followed by four more runs in the fifth proved enough to knock him out of the game. Nola had gone three straight starts with six innings of scoreless work, but the Padres were able to pile on hits in bunches against the 29-year-old righty. In his lone start against the Padres during the regular season, Nola delivered a one-run, 10-strikeout performance over seven innings, but the new-look Padres offense gave him problems in Game 2. Nola's postseason ERA jumped from 0.00 to 3.16, but he does have 18 strikeouts across 17.1 innings.
Oct 3, 2022
Perfection spoiled in seventh
Nola (11-13) earned the win against the Astros on Monday, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks with nine strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
After retiring the first 20 batters of the game, Nola allowed back-to-back singles to Yordan Alvarez and David Hensley with two out in the seventh inning. Interim manager Rob Thomson then pulled Nola with 88 pitches in favor of the L/L matchup between Kyle Tucker and reliever Jose Alvarado, who won the matchup with a punchout to position Nola to earn his 11th victory. Nola closes the regular season fourth in the majors with 235 strikeouts to go along with a 3.25 ERA through 205 innings.

Takes 13th loss
Nola (10-13) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits over six innings against the Cubs. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Nola cruised through the first four innings, striking out six while allowing just one hit. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth after he allowed back-to-back singles to Nico Hoerner and Patrick Wisdom to begin the inning and then hit Alfonso Rivas with a pitch two batters later. Christopher Morel would then add a three-run shot to top off a four-run inning on Nola, who came in having allowed just one home run this month. The right-hander has now lost three of his last four decisions and is projected to take on the Astros in Houston in his next start.

Cruises to 10th win
Nola (10-12) picked up the win in Friday's 9-1 rout of Atlanta, allowing four hits and three walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies staked the right-hander to a 4-0 lead after two innings, and Nola had little difficulty recording his 17th quality start of the season. He generated 17 swinging strikes on 104 pitches, and the 29-year-old has now won double-digit games while striking out 200-plus batters for the third time in his career, but the first since 2019.

Goes seven innings in loss
Nola (9-12) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings, taking the loss Saturday versus Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Nola didn't receive enough run support, and he was trouble by Ronald Acuna, who tagged him for a two-run home run and a two-run double in the third and fourth innings. Nola's inconsistency continued -- he's given up four or more runs in three of his last six outings, and one or fewer in the other three starts in that span. The 29-year-old right-hander now has a 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 210:26 K:BB through 186.1 innings through 29 starts. He'll look to get on track again in a rematch with Atlanta at home next weekend.
Sep 11, 2022
Tosses two innings
Nola yielded two hits over two scoreless innings against Washington on Sunday. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola threw 44 pitches before the game went into a lengthy rain delay that ended his outing. The 29-year-old righty lowered his ERA to 3.31 with a stellar 202:24 K:BB through 179.1 frames. He's given up fewer than two runs in six of his last eight starts but he was tagged with 13 runs in the other two. Nola is projected to start in Atlanta next week.

Reaches 200 Ks
Nola didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Marlins, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander delivered his 16th quality start of the season and his fifth outing with double-digit strikeouts, generating 16 swinging strikes among his 97 pitches. Nola also reached the 200-K plateau for the fourth straight full season, and only Hall of Famer Steven Carlton has more such seasons in a Phillies uniform. Nola will take a 3.35 ERA and 0.97 WHIP into his next start.
Aug 31, 2022
Lit up in loss
Nola (9-11) gave up eight runs on 10 hits and a hit batsman while striking out five over four innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed a five-run rally in the second inning and a three-run home run to Jake McCarthy in the fourth. Over his last four starts, Nola has alternated between brilliance and disaster. Tuesday's start was his worst of the season, coming just one turn after a complete-game shutout versus the Reds in his previous outing. Despite the inconsistency, the right-hander has a 3.43 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 190:22 K:BB through 170.2 innings across 26 starts this year. He'll look to bounce back next week in a projected home start versus the Marlins.
Aug 25, 2022
Complete game shutout
Nola (9-10) earned the win Thursday, allowing zero runs on five hits over nine innings against the Reds. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed only one extra-base hit in his stellar performance - a double off the bat of outfielder T.J. Friedl. The righty has turned in an outstanding August, boasting a 2.25 ERA in 28 innings over four starts. The 29-year-old is far better away from Philadelphia with a 2.13 ERA and four home runs allowed in 84.1 innings compared to a 4.04 ERA and 12 home runs allowed in 82.1 innings at home.

Fans nine in 10th loss
Nola (8-10) took the loss Friday, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings as the Phillies fell 7-2 to the Mets. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The strikeouts salvaged some fantasy value for Nola, but the right-hander saw his quality start streak end at three as the Mets hit him hard, with half of the eight hits off Nola going for extra bases including a Pete Alonso two-run blast in the third inning. Since the beginning of July, Nola's fate has been determined by whether he can keep the ball in the park. In the five outings during which he didn't serve up a homer, he has five quality starts with a 1.50 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 34:6 K:BB through 36 innings. In the three starts in which he was taken deep, he stumbled to a 7.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP despite a 23:2 K:BB through 18 frames.

Outdueled in tough loss
Nola (8-9) gave up one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out eight over eight innings to take the loss in a 1-0 defeat to the Mets on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Nola performed very well in Saturday night's pitching duel with Jacob deGrom, but he was saddled with the tough loss despite only giving up one run over eight dominant innings. The only damage came on a Pete Alonso RBI single in the first to score Starling Marte who had stolen second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Nola is in the midst of his best season since 2018 and boasts a superb WHIP of 0.93 while striking out over a batter per inning. He is expected to make his next start in a rematch at home against the Mets.
Aug 7, 2022
Earns win in quality start
Nola (8-8) allowed one run on five hits and two walks over six innings Sunday, striking out five and picking up a win against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Aside from Cesar Hernandez's RBI single in the fifth inning, Nola kept the Nationals' lineup pretty quiet in Sunday's easy victory. It was his second straight start allowing just one run after giving up five runs in two of his previous three outings. The veteran righty is now sporting a 3.17 ERA with a stellar 157:20 K:BB through 22 starts. Nola is expected to face the Mets on the road next week.
Jul 31, 2022
Punches out eight in win
Nola (7-8) allowed one run on six hits and a walk over six innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning a win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Nola bounced back nicely after coughing up five runs against Atlanta in his last outing. He gave up an RBI double to Cal Mitchell in the third inning Sunday but didn't face much danger otherwise. The 29-year-old righty lowered his season ERA to 3.25 with a terrific 152:18 K:BB through 138.2 frames. Nola is projected to take on the Nationals at home next weekend.
Jul 27, 2022
Hit hard in loss to Atlanta
Nola (6-8) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up five runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings as the Phillies fell 6-3 to Atlanta. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Five of the seven hits off Nola went for extra bases, including homers by Michael Harris and Matt Olson. The right-hander has been tagged for four or more runs in three of his last five starts, but he's maintained a solid fantasy floor by fanning at least seven batters in six of his last seven. On the season, Nola sports a 3.32 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and eye-popping 144:17 K:BB through 132.2 innings.
Jul 17, 2022
Fires gem in Miami
Nola (6-7) allowed four hits and a walk over 8.1 shutout innings Sunday, striking out 10 and earning a win over Miami.
ANALYSIS
Nola let just three Marlins reach base through eight innings before coughing up two more singles in the ninth. It was his eighth straight start of at least seven innings; during that stretch, he's sporting an impressive 2.25 ERA and 58:6 K:BB. He lowered his season ERA to 3.13 through 126.2 frames heading into the All-Star break. While the 29-year-old's 9.7 K/9 is his lowest since the 2019 season, Nola's 1.1 BB/9 is the best of his career and currently leads the National League.
Jul 14, 2022
Reinstated to active roster
Nola was reinstated from the restricted list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Nola was unable to travel for the Phillies' two-game series at Toronto. He did not miss any starts and is projected to take the mound Sunday at Miami.
Jul 12, 2022
Shifts to restricted list
Nola (personal) was placed on the restricted list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Nola is unvaccinated and unable to travel with the team to Toronto for the two-game series this week. The transaction won't affect the right-hander's spot in the rotation since he pitched Monday against the Cardinals, taking the loss after giving up five earned runs over seven innings. He still lines up to start Saturday or Sunday in Miami.
Jul 12, 2022
Gives up five runs in loss
Nola (5-7) was the pitcher of record in Monday's 6-1 loss to the Cardinals after allowing five earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out seven across seven innings.
ANALYSIS
The five runs he allowed Monday tied a season high, but it was mostly a result of an untimely sequencing of hits, as he retired 21 of the 28 batters he faced on the night. He's now taken losses in three of his last four outings, though his 2.93 FIP over that stretch suggests that he's pitched better than his results would indicate. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski confirmed Monday that due to his vaccination status, Nola won't be eligible to join the team in Toronto for its two-game series, so the right-hander will be moved to the restricted list. He'll be activated Friday and should make his final start before the All-Star break Saturday or Sunday in Miami.

Quality start in loss Wendesday
Nola (5-6) got the loss Wednesday after he pitched 7.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Nola was once again able to pitch deep Wednesday, but he was ultimately outdueled on the mound by Josiah Gray. The right-hander gave up an RBI double in the fourth inning to Yadiel Hernandez and then another double off the bat of Luis Garcia plated two runs in the seventh frame. Nola has now pitched at least seven innings in six straight contests and seven of his last eight outings overall. Since June 8, the 29-year-old has produced a 2.01 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 41 strikeouts over 44.2 frames in six starts.
Jul 1, 2022
Earns fifth win
Nola (5-5) allowed four earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight across seven innings to earn the win Thursday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Nola was given an 11-run lead by the fourth inning, so he was able to pound the strike zone -- 83 of his 110 pitches went for strikes. However, that did lead to him serving up a pair of homers, marking only the third time he's been taken deep multiple times in an outing this season. Otherwise, Nola has been in excellent form, as he entered Thursday's start having allowed fewer than two earned runs while working at least seven innings in each of his last four starts. Overall, he has maintained a 3.13 ERA and an impeccable 117:14 K:BB across 103.2 frames on the campaign.
Jun 25, 2022
Tough-luck loser
Nola (4-5) took the loss during Friday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Padres, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in seven innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola and Mackenzie Gore engaged in a pitcher's duel and Nola was the first to break when he surrendered an Austin Nola RBI single in the sixth that proved to be the difference. The 29-year-old tossed 70 of 98 pitches for strikes with a whopping 18 of the swinging variety in matching a season-best with 10 strikeouts. It seemed Nola had put the poor luck behind him as Philadelphia reigned in each of his last five starts, however Nola has permitted just one run in 15 innings over his last two turns and doesn't have a win to show for it. He's slated to take the mound next against Atlanta midweek.
Jun 19, 2022
Fans eight in no-decision
Nola did not factor in the decision against Washington on Saturday despite pitching eight scoreless innings. He allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
Nola didn't yield any extra-base hits in the contest, and he allowed only one runner to reach third base. He was in line for the win when he departed after the eighth inning, but Brad Hand blew the save before the Phillies pulled out the victory in the 10th frame. This was Nola's second scoreless eight-inning start over his past three games, and he extended his streak of appearances without a loss to seven. He's compiled a 3.11 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 99:10 K:BB over 89.2 innings on the season.
Jun 13, 2022
Strong in no-decision
Nola allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six without walking a batter in seven innings versus the Marlins on Monday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola turned in his fourth quality start in his last six outings, though he looked to be in line for a hard-luck loss this time. The Phillies changed that with runs in the eighth and ninth innings for a comeback win after the right-hander was out of the game. His three-start win streak came to an end Monday, but he's still been pretty solid lately. Overall, Nola has a 3.42 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 91:10 K:BB in 81.2 innings across 13 starts. He lines up for a favorable road start versus the Nationals this weekend.
Jun 8, 2022
Masterful over eight innings
Nola (4-4) earned the win Wednesday after he pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out six against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Nola was electric Wednesday, limiting the Brewers to just four singles and earning his third consecutive victory on the mound. The right-hander has been masterful against Milwaukee this season, tossing 15 scoreless frames with 15 punchouts over two starts against the team. Nola has been in a pattern of alternating strong outings and difficult outings over his last six starts, producing a 3.60 ERA and 0.90 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 40 innings. He'll look to break that trend in his next outing, tentatively lining up to toe the rubber again Monday versus the Marlins.
Jun 2, 2022
Hangs on for third win
Nola (3-4) picked up the win in Wednesday's 6-5 victory over the Giants, giving up five runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander took a shutout into the sixth inning but hit the wall hard, as the first five Giants batters in the frame all reached base, capped by a three-run blast from Wilmer Flores. Fortunately for Nola, the Phillies responded with four runs on the bottom of the inning to hand him back his win. He'll take a 3.92 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 79:10 K:BB through 66.2 innings into his next start, with a 1.35 HR/9 souring his ERA despite his otherwise ace-like numbers.
May 27, 2022
Shuts down Atlanta
Nola (2-4) allowed one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out 10 across 8.1 innings to earn the win Thursday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Nola dominated Atlanta and allowed only two extra-base hits -- both to Matt Olson. He also struck out a season-best 10 hitters, backed by 24 called strikes and 15 swinging strikes across 109 total pitches. Nola entered the start having allowed 10 earned runs across his last three starts spanning 17.2 innings, but for the season he has maintained a 3.56 ERA and an elite 74:10 K:BB across 60.2 frames.
May 22, 2022
Fans nine in no-decision
Nola didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Dodgers, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The strikeouts were nice and tied Nola's season high, but he was also hit hard as four of the five knocks against him went for extra bases, including homers by Mookie Betts and Will Smith. Nola's now served up nine long balls in 52.1 innings on the season for a career-worst 1.55 HR/9, but he's balanced that out with a career-best 4.8 percent walk rate, leaving him with a 3.96 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.
May 15, 2022
Denied second win
Nola registered a no-decision during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Dodgers, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola was staked to an early four run lead, only permitting a run apiece in the third and fourth innings, and departed with a two-run lead. Unfortunately, the bullpen blew the game and Philadelphia has now lost all seven of Nola's starts since Opening Day despite the 28-year-old owning a solid 3.64 ERA. He'll go for his second win with a rematch against Los Angeles on tap for next weekend.
May 11, 2022
Handed fourth loss
Nola (1-4) took the loss during Tuesday's 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Mariners, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and one walk with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola fell behind early by surrendering four hits and two runs in the first inning with additional runs coming around in the second and sixth. Despite a quality 3.83 ERA and 1.00 WHIP, Philadelphia has managed to lose all six of Nola's starts since Opening Day. A 2.59 xERA and 2.56 xFIP suggest he should improve some going forward, with a tentative start Sunday against the Dodgers being the next opportunity.
May 6, 2022
Strong effort squandered
Nola allowed one earned run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven across seven innings Thursday against the Mets. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed only a solo home run to Starling Marte in the seventh inning in an otherwise dominant outing. He exited the game with a 7-1 lead, but the Philadelphia bullpen imploded to blow what appeared to be a certain win for Nola. After allowing seven earned runs across first two starts of the season, Nola has allowed only six earned runs across his last four starts and 25.1 frames. Overall, he owns a 3.38 ERA with a 41:6 K:BB across 34.2 innings.
Apr 29, 2022
Fans nine in loss
Nola (1-3) allowed three runs on seven hits over six frames Friday, striking out nine and taking a loss against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Nola found himself locked in a pitcher's duel with Tylor Megill to begin the game. He yielded just two singles through four shutout innings before the Mets finally broke through in the fifth. He gave up a two-run single to Jeff McNeil before Pete Alonso tacked on an insurance run with his sixth-inning solo blast. The Phillies were no-hit, handing Nola his third loss in the last four outings. He'll carry a 3.90 ERA into his next outing, a home rematch with the Mets next week.
Apr 24, 2022
Shuts down Milwaukee
Nola didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's 1-0 loss to Milwaukee, allowing one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts in seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola pitched about as well as possible, but his superb performance was unfortunately matched by opposing starter Eric Lauer. The 28-year-old submitted an excellent 84 game score by allowing just two baserunners compared to seven strikeouts and lowered his ERA from 5.52 to 3.74 in the process. He'll look to keep things rolling against the Mets on Friday.
Apr 19, 2022
Yields two runs in loss
Nola (1-2) allowed two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Monday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Nola looked strong through five shutout frames before Charlie Blackmon launched a leadoff homer to begin the sixth. He would exit the game after allowing a single to C.J. Cron later in the inning. The 28-year-old righty has now lost two straight starts despite seeing his ERA drop to 5.52 through 14.2 frames. Nola is lined up to face the Brewers at home this weekend.
Apr 13, 2022
Early exit against Mets
Nola (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Mets, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks over 3.1 innings as the Phillies fell 9-6. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander dodged baserunners in each of the first two innings to keep the game scoreless, but Nola's luck -- and Philadelphia's -- began to run out in the third. He got the hook after throwing 76 pitches (47 strikes), and Nola will take a 6.75 ERA and 12:3 K:BB through 9.1 innings to begin the season into his next start, scheduled for Monday at Coors Field against the Rockies.
Apr 8, 2022
Strikes out seven in win
Nola (1-0) allowed four runs on four hits in six innings while striking out seven in a 9-5 win Friday over Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Nola was very efficient through the first six innings, needing just 65 pitches and limiting Oakland to a solo home run and a hit batsman. However, in the seventh, the 28-year-old allowed hits to the first three batters he faced, culminating with a three-run home run by Seth Brown, and was promptly removed. The potent Philadelphia offense staked Nola a sizeable lead and set the former All-Star up for his first victory of the season.
Mar 16, 2022
Making spring debut Saturday
Nola is scheduled to start and throw around 35 pitches in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The projected 35-pitch count signals that Nola is well on his way to getting stretched out for a starter's workload by the time the Phillies' April 8 regular-season opener versus the Athletics arrives. Nola is coming off a down 2021 fantasy season in which he submitted the second-worst ERA of his career (4.63), but most underlying indicators (3.37 xFIP, 3.26 SIERA, 24.6 K-BB%) point to him pitching just as effectively as he had in previous years. He likely won't come at a major discount at the draft table, but fantasy managers can invest in Nola with a good deal of confidence that his ERA will bounce back to some degree.
Sep 29, 2021
Logs quality start in final outing
Nola (9-9) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, surrendering three runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over six innings. He had four strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta jumped on Nola for a pair of runs in the first inning with an Austin Riley RBI single and an Adam Duvall run-scoring groundout. Nola settled down after that, giving up just one run the rest of the way, but it wasn't enough to avoid the loss. The 28-year-old finishes a disappointing 2021 regular season with a 4.63 ERA -- his highest since 2016 -- despite a sparkling 223:39 K:BB over 180.2 innings.
Sep 24, 2021
Permits six runs in win
Nola (9-8) got the win in Thursday's 12-6 victory over Pittsburgh, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
The bulk of the damage against Nola came during a five-run second, when a Ke'Bryan Hayes home run cleaned up a bases-loaded one-out jam with. Despite the early six-run hole, Philadelphia rallied with five runs in the third and three in the sixth to earn the 28-year-old consecutive wins. Nola has a high 6.58 ERA across 26 innings in five September starts and is slated to pitch against Atlanta on Wednesday.
Sep 19, 2021
Whiffs nine in win
Nola (8-8) allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out nine across 5.2 innings, earning the win over the Mets on Saturday.
ANALYSIS

Sep 12, 2021
Strikes out 10 in no-decision
Nola allowed three runs on five hits and struck out 10 in 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus Colorado on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
For the third time in his last four starts, Nola didn't walk a batter. The only mistake on his ledger Sunday was a three-run home run to Garrett Hampson in the fifth inning. Nola remains without a win in his last nine starts, although he's only taken two losses in that span despite failing to complete six innings in seven of those outings. For the year, the right-hander has a 4.58 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 202:35 K:BB in 163 innings. He'll try to get back in the win column next weekend in a projected road start versus the Mets.
Sep 8, 2021
No support in loss
Nola (7-8) took the loss Tuesday versus Milwaukee. He allowed three runs on six hits and a hit batter while striking out six in five innings.
ANALYSIS
While the right-hander wasn't all that effective Tuesday, his Philadelphia teammates supported him with just five hits and a walk in the contest. Nola has failed to complete six innings in six of his last seven starts, with his 8.2-inning effort versus San Diego on Aug. 21 the notable exception in that span. He's posted a 4.57 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 192:35 K:BB across 157.2 innings overall. Nola projects for a home start versus Colorado this weekend.

Struggles in no-decision
Nola surrendered six runs on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out five across four innings during Thursday's win over the Nationals. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola continued his hot-cold season with a rough outing against the Nationals. The right-hander left the game in line for the loss but was rescued by his offense in the eighth inning. Nola gave up a pair of two-out homers to Lane Thomas and Juan Soto, raising his season total to 13. Meanwhile, it was the third time over his last five starts that he failed to complete at least five innings. Nola will look to rebound during his next tentative start Tuesday at Milwaukee.

Phillies-Nationals rained out
Nola and the Phillies won't play the Nationals on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Washington.
ANALYSIS
The two teams will instead conclude their series with a nine-inning regulation game Thursday, which was slated to be an off day for both Philadelphia and Washington. According to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia, the Phillies will push Nola back a day in the schedule to start Thursday's make-up contest, but the other members of the rotation shouldn't be affected by the postponement.
Aug 28, 2021

Nola allowed two runs on three hits and no walks while striking out seven in 5.1 innings in Friday's win over Arizona. He didn't factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola lasted 8.2 innings during his last start, but he needed 93 pitches to get through 5.1 innings Friday. The right-hander has lasted at least five innings during six of his eight starts since the All-Star break, and he's recorded a 3.80 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 55:10 K:BB in 47.1 innings during that time.
Aug 22, 2021
Handed tough-luck no-decision
Nola took a no-decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Padres in 10 innings after giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out 11 in 8.2 frames. He scattered two hits and two walks during the 117-pitch outing.
ANALYSIS
Nola returned to the mound for the bottom of the ninth with a shot at securing his second complete game of the season, but he was unable to preserve the Phillies' 3-1 lead. After retiring two of the first three batters he faced in the inning, Nola served up a two-run, two-out home run to Jake Cronenworth to even the score before the Padres won the game in extras. Despite submitting a 3.32 FIP over his last five starts, Nola has no wins to show for it.
Aug 15, 2021
Charged with seventh loss
Nola (7-7) allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four in 4.1 innings to take the loss against the Reds on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Nola's outing got off to a rough start when he gave up a leadoff home run to Jonathan India, and he ultimately allowed runs in three of the first five innings. As a result, the right-hander was tagged with the loss after he had settled for no-decisions in each of his last three starts. Nola now has a 1-2 record since the All-Star break, and he's recorded a 4.32 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 33.1 innings during that time. He tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road against San Diego on Saturday.

Nola matched Max Scherzer in a pitcher's duel early in the game. However, his start was cut short by a lengthy rain delay. Even so, Nola got in enough work to show that he was in for a bounceback effort after surrendering five earned runs across five innings in his last outing. Despite that stumble, Nola has allowed two or fewer earned runs in three of his last four starts after he struggled for the majority of a seven-start stretch from early June to late July. He'll look to stay on track to close the season and improve on his 4.35 ERA across 130.1 innings on the campaign.

Yields five runs in no-decision
Nola allowed five runs on five hits and three walks over five innings in a no-decision against Washington on Thursday. He also had seven strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Nola was sitting on a 2-0 lead through three innings but gave up an RBI single to Carter Kieboom and then hit Tres Barrera with the bases loaded in the fourth. The big blast came on Josh Bell's three-run homer in the fifth, which was the seventh long ball offered up by Nola in his last six starts. The 28-year-old Nola continues to endure an up-and-down campaign, logging a 4.49 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a 152:28 K:BB in 126.1 innings. He's tentatively scheduled for a home start against the Dodgers next week.
Jul 31, 2021
Goes six in no-decision Saturday
Nola allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings in Saturday's no-decision against the Pirates. He logged five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
It was the second consecutive quality start turned in by Nola, who registered zeroes in every inning but the third, when Kevin Newman tripled in a run and Ben Gamel followed with an RBI single. The 28-year-old Nola has been uncharacteristically inconsistent in 2021, but he appears to be locked in again heading into August, having posted 14 strikeouts against just one walk with three earned runs allowed over his last two appearances (14.2 innings). He's tentatively scheduled to face Washington on the road in his next start.
Jul 21, 2021
Takes loss in return
Nola (6-6) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Yankees after allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk while fanning five across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola was activated ahead from the COVID-19 list ahead of this game but was far from effective, as he needed 101 pitches (55 strikes) and couldn't even complete six innings. His recent numbers have not been encouraging either, as he has given up at least four runs in each of his last three starts. He owns an inflated 6.10 ERA across eight outings since the beginning of June and will aim to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for the weekend series against the Braves at home.
Jul 20, 2021
Activated ahead of start
Nola was activated from the COVID-19 injured list as expected ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Nola was supposed to start the final game of the first half but wound up getting scratched due to contact tracing. He'll wind up getting an unplanned two-week break but shouldn't be facing significant restrictions given that he didn't test positive for the virus himself. He'll look to find some consistency at the start of the second half after an up-and-down five-start run prior to the break which saw him strike out eight or more batters four times but also allow six or more runs twice.
Jul 16, 2021
Cleared to start Tuesday
Nola will return from the COVID-19 injured list to start Tuesday against the Yankees, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola was scratched from his scheduled start on the final day of the first half due to contact tracing. He never tested positive for the virus himself, however, so his performance shouldn't be significantly impacted going forward.
Jul 11, 2021
Out for contact tracing
Nola was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Sunday as a result of contact tracing, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola was scratched from his start Sunday but has not tested positive for COVID-19. Assuming he continues to test negative and is able to pass through the league's health and safety protocols, he could return shortly after the All-Star break.
Jul 11, 2021
Scratched from Sunday's start
Nola will not start Sunday's game against Boston and will be placed on the COVID-19 injured list, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola was slated to make his final start before the All-Star break but is among a number of Phillies who have been affected by COVID-19 protocols. It's unclear when Nola may be able to return, or whether his absence is caused by a positive test or contact-tracing protocol.
Jul 7, 2021
Good enough to win Tuesday
Nola (6-5) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in six innings, earning the win over the Cubs on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Nola wasn't his sharpest Tuesday, allowing a three-run rally in the third inning and a solo home run to Javier Baez in the sixth. The right-hander benefited from a big performance from Philadelphia's offense, which was especially helpful since the bullpen gave quite a bit of an 11-run lead back. Nola has given up four or more runs in four of his last six outings, and he's surrendered 21 runs in 31 innings in that span. For the season, he has a 4.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 126:23 K:BB through 101.1 innings. He lines up for one more start before the All-Star break, which would likely be during this weekend's series in Boston.
Jul 1, 2021
Hits wall in Wednesday's loss
Nola (5-5) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering seven runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out 11 without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander seemed to have things well in hand as the Phillies took a 5-2 lead into the fifth inning, but things fell apart for Nola after he was charged with a one-out balk that sent Magneuris Sierra to second base. Even so, three of the runs on Nola's ledger scored after he'd exited the game. It's the second time in his last three outings he's coughed up at least six runs, sending his ERA soaring to 4.44, but his 118:22 K:BB through 95.1 innings on the year -- including a 23:1 mark in his last two starts -- remains impressive.
Jun 25, 2021
Ties record in win
Nola allowed two hits and a walk while striking out 12 in 5.1 scoreless innings in Friday's loss to the Mets in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader. He didn't factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola hit the leadoff batter and gave up a double to begin Friday's matinee, but he struck out the next 10 batters he faced, which matched Tom Seaver's major-league record. While the right-hander drove in the Phillies' lone run with a double of his own in the top of the fifth inning, the Mets responded later in the game and won in extra innings. Although Nola gave up six runs in 2.1 innings during his last start, he's now had two scoreless appearances in his last three outings. The 28-year-old tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Marlins on Wednesday.
Jun 19, 2021
Early exit in no-decision
Nola didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 13-6 win over the Giants, coughing up six runs on six hits and three walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out only one.
ANALYSIS
Mike Yastrzemski and Brandon Belt both took Nola deep in the worst outing of the year for the right-hander, but the Phillies' offense did more than enough damage to get him off the hook for a loss. Nola will carry a 4.22 ERA and 95:21 K:BB through 85.1 innings into his next start.
Jun 13, 2021
Earns fifth win
Nola (5-4) allowed three hits and one walk while striking out nine in 7.2 scoreless innings to earn the win against the Yankees on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Nola had given up at least three runs in each of his last two starts, but he returned to form Sunday with his first scoreless outing in nearly two months. The right-hander didn't allow more than one baserunner in any inning against the Yankees and has now earned wins in two of his last three appearances. He's posted a 3.69 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 83 innings across 14 starts this year. Nola tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against San Francisco on Saturday.
Jun 9, 2021
Gives up four runs in no-decision
Nola surrendered four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings during Tuesday's 9-5 loss to Atlanta. He had seven strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old generated 15 swings-and-misses and threw 62 of 89 pitches for strikes Tuesday, but he served up two homers and struggled to keep Atlanta off the basepaths. Nola has a 4.06 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 85:17 K:BB across 75.1 innings this season.
Jun 2, 2021
Tosses five strong innings
Nola (4-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Reds after allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning two across five innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola didn't have major problems earning his fourth win of the season, but things could've easily gone different for him -- the eight hits he allowed are the second-highest mark of the season. In fact, he's given up at least seven hits in three of his last four starts while allowing at least three runs three times during that stretch, so he's still far from pitching at his best. The right-hander is scheduled to start again during next week's home series against Atlanta.
May 26, 2021
Produces quality start
Nola allowed a run on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts in six innings versus Miami on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola pitched well enough to win, but Miami's eighth-inning rally against reliever Sam Coonrod denied Philadelphia's ace a decision. The right-handed starter has a 3.72 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 76:13 K:BB across 65.1 innings. The three walks he issued Wednesday marked a season high. He's now gone four starts without a win. The 27-year-old will look to correct that trend next week in Cincinnati.
May 21, 2021
Takes another loss
Nola (3-4) took the loss Friday against the Red Sox after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk while fanning nine across five innings.
ANALYSIS
Nola's nine strikeouts ended just one away from tying his season-best mark in that department, but he's also allowed at least three earned runs in three straight outings while losing in each one of those appearances. The star right-hander will try to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for next week on the road against the Marlins.
May 16, 2021
Takes loss despite quality start
Nola (3-3) allowed three earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out eight across 6.2 innings, taking the loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed a two out home run to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the first inning. All three runs came in the first two innings before Nola settled in. The 28-year-old has 3.64 ERA and a 10.1 K/9 in 54.1 innings. It's not Nola's greatest start to a season, but he's still keeping the Phillies in every game he starts. He's doing a great job limiting free passes with a 1.5 BB/9. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Red Sox.
May 9, 2021
Shelled in loss
Nola (3-2) allowed five earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four across four innings to record the loss Sunday against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Nola struggled early against Philadelphia, throwing 39 of 58 pitches for strikes. He never really settled in all night, allowing a home run to Andrew McCutchen on the first pitch of the game. Nola now has a 3.59 ERA with a 53:8 K:BB across 47.2 innings.
May 5, 2021
Punches out 10 in win
Nola (3-1) allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out 10 across six innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed hits to two of the first three batters he faced, accounting for the only earned run of the start. He settled in quickly thereafter to rack up his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Nola has delivered as expected through seven outings, maintaining a 2.89 ERA with a 49:7 K:BB across 43.2 innings. He's projected to take his next turn through the rotation Sunday at Atlanta.
Apr 29, 2021
Fans seven in no-decision
Nola allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
All three runs against Nola scored on one swing of the bat from Matt Carpenter. Nola had beaten the Cardinals back on April 18 in a 10-strikeout shutout, and while he couldn't get the win this time around, it was another quality effort. The right-hander now has a stellar 39:5 K:BB over 37.2 innings this season, supporting his low-3.00s ERA. Nola tentatively lines up for two starts next week with the Phillies slated to play seven games.
Apr 25, 2021
Earns win against Colorado
Nola (2-1) earned the win Saturday against the Rockies after giving up four runs on six hits and a walk across seven innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Nola might have allowed a season-high four runs, but he still earned his second win of the season while also performing at the plate -- he went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. The star right-hander owns a strong 2.84 ERA after five starts and is slated to take the ball next week against the Cardinals.
Apr 19, 2021
Tosses CG against Cardinals
Nola (1-1) allowed two hits and no walks while striking out 10 in nine scoreless innings to earn the win against the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Nola was tagged with the loss in his last outing, but he bounced back with a dominant performance against St. Louis on Sunday. The right-hander gave up singles in the second and eighth innings, but he didn't encounter much trouble in the first complete game of his career. Through his first four starts of the season, Nola has posted a 2.19 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 24.2 innings. He lines up to make his next start of the season against the Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field on Saturday.
Apr 14, 2021
Takes loss Tuesday
Nola (0-1) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings as the Phillies fell 4-0. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander didn't pitch poorly as he threw 59 of 92 pitches for strikes, but Philly's bats couldn't solve Marcus Stroman, saddling Nola with the loss. He'll take a 3.45 ERA and strong 18:3 K:BB through 15.2 innings into his next start, set for Sunday at home against the Cardinals.
Apr 7, 2021
Early exit in no-decision
Nola didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Mets, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was mostly able to handle the traffic he put on the bases, but Nola ran his pitch count up to 92 (59 strikes) and was forced to exit before he could benefit from another big offensive showing by the Phillies. Nola has a 2.53 ERA and 11:2 K:BB through his first 10.2 innings this season, and he'll look for his first win of the season in a road rematch with the Mets on Tuesday.
Apr 1, 2021
Strong on Opening Day
Nola allowed two earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out six across 6.2 innings Thursday against the Braves. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola held a shutout through 6.2 innings, but allowed a walk and subsequent home run to Pablo Sandoval prior to being pulled. That cost him the opportunity to earn a win, though his effort was otherwise outstanding as he needed only 84 pitches to work deep into the game. On an Opening Day that saw many aces hit hard around the league, Nola appeared ready to replicate his outstanding 2020 campaign.
Mar 22, 2021
Earns expected Opening Day nod
Nola will start on Opening Day against Atlanta on April 1, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The announcement comes as no surprise, as Nola has been the Phillies' ace for several years now. He's coming off a year in which he posted his second-best ERA (3.28), second-best WHIP (1.08) and best strikeout rate (33.2 percent). The Opening Day start will be his fourth in a row, becoming the first Phillies' pitcher to record a streak that long since Steve Carlton made 10 consecutive Opening Day starts from 1977 to 1986.
Mar 16, 2021
Experimenting with cutter
Nola is testing out a cutter this spring, Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola threw the pitch a few times in his outing Tuesday against Toronto, though not nearly frequently enough that it can be blamed for his disastrous line, as he allowed six runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work. Nola doesn't exactly need to add anything on the back of a season in which he struck out a career-high 33.2 percent of opposing batters en route to a 3.28 ERA, but more weapons certainly can't hurt. There's no guarantee the cutter develops into anything usable for Nola this season, and he doesn't intend to use it very frequently, but it's possible the offering slightly improves his profile if it does indeed turn into a useful pitch.
Mar 13, 2021
Mediocre start to spring
Nola hasn't been great through his first two spring starts, allowing four runs on eight hits across six innings, striking out four while walking one.
ANALYSIS
It's not the best start to camp for the 27-year-old righty, but he'll still have a few turns in the rotation to get into regular-season form before his presumed Opening Day start. Two unimpressive spring outings isn't nearly enough to erase the dominance he demonstrated last season, when he cruised to a 3.28 ERA and 1.08 WHIP while striking out a career-high 33.2 percent of opposing batters, a mark that placed him sixth among qualified starters, one spot ahead of Gerrit Cole.
Sep 27, 2020
Finishes season with loss to Rays
Nola (5-5) took the loss Sunday against the Rays, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks across 3.2 innings. He fanned six.
ANALYSIS
Nola was called upon to keep the Phillies' playoff chances alive on the season's final day and the right-hander struggled under the intense circumstances. After striking out a pair in a clean first inning, the Rays got to Nola for a run in the second. The 27-year-old bounced back to strike out the first two batters he faced in the third, but then allowed a walk and three hits to get tagged with his second run. He was pulled after allowing two walks in the fourth. Despite the disappointing finish to his campaign, Nola finishes the year with 96 punch outs and a solid 3.28 ERA.
Sep 22, 2020
Takes loss despite quality start
Nola (5-4) took the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The outing qualified as a complete game, as the Nats didn't need to come to the plate in the bottom of the seventh. It was Nola's fourth quality start in his last six outings, a stretch during which he's posted a 3.03 ERA and 50:13 K:BB through 38.2 innings. The Phillies got swept in the twin bill to bump them out of a wild-card spot, but if they can rally over the next few days, Nola's final start of the regular season Sunday in Tampa Bay could be a huge one for the club.
Sep 18, 2020
Survives with no-decision
Nola did not factor in the decision against the Mets on Thursday, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing five runs on five hits and five walks while striking out seven.
ANALYSIS
Nola got off to a rough start in the outing, allowing three runs on a pair of walks and two hits in the first inning. He settled down until the sixth frame, when he surrendered a Pete Alonso solo home run and was tagged with another earned run after departing the contest. Due to an even less effective performance by opposing starter Seth Lugo, Nola managed to escape with a no-decision, though the five earned runs he allowed were his most this season. Despite the less-than-stellar outing, Nola stills holds a 2.92 ERA on the campaign, which he'll look to improve upon in his next scheduled start at Washington on Tuesday.
Sep 15, 2020
Start pushed to Thursday
Nola's next start will come Thursday against the Mets, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Zack Wheeler (finger) has been unavailable for most of the past week but will be reinserted into the rotation Wednesday, pushing Nola's scheduled start back one day, though he'll still face the same opponent. Across his past four starts Nola has a 1.65 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 37:6 K:BB over 27.1 innings.
Sep 12, 2020
Shuts out Marlins in matinee
Nola (5-3) picked up the win in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Marlins, scattering three hits over seven shutout innings. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
It goes down in the books as Nola's first career complete game, even if it was only seven innings and not the traditional nine. He tossed 70 of 106 pitches for strikes, and he retired the first seven batters he faced, six of them via strikeout, before Jazz Chisholm reached base on a HBP. Nola will take a 2.40 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 77:13 K:BB through 56.1 innings into his next outing Wednesday, at home against the Mets.
Sep 6, 2020
Strikes out 10 in loss
Nola (4-3) allowed six runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out 10 over 5.1 innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Nola lasted eight innings in his last start as he was dominant against the Nationals, but he was far less effective Sunday as he allowed runs in all but one of the innings that he pitched. He was able to stay hot in the strikeout column, but he struggled to keep the basepaths clear. The right-hander now has a 2.74 ERA and 67:13 K:BB over 49.1 innings this season. He'll attempt to right the ship on the road Friday as part of a doubleheader against the Marlins.
Sep 2, 2020
Delivers eight-inning gem
Nola (4-2) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals after giving up two hits with nine strikeouts and three walks over eight scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old delivered his best outing of the season as he completely shut down Washington's offense. Nola has a 2.45 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB through 43 innings and will look to replicate that performance Sunday against the Mets.
Aug 27, 2020
Quality outing in win
Nola (3-2) allowed two runs on five hits (one home run) and two walks while striking out eight across seven innings as he earned the win over the Nationals on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Nola allowed a second-inning home run to Juan Soto and later ran into some trouble in the fourth after walking the first two batters, allowing Howie Kendrick to drive in Asdrubal Cabrera from second. Nola was able to escape with minimal damage and finish with a win after the Phillies put up two runs of in the top of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead. Nola now sports a 3.00 ERA and an impressive 48:9 K:BB across 36 innings as he is scheduled next to take the mound Monday against the Nationals again.
Aug 22, 2020
Struggles in short outing
Nola (2-2) allowed four runs on six hits (two home runs) and three walks while striking out three batters in 2.2 innings as he was handed the loss Friday against the Braves.
ANALYSIS
Nola just didn't have his stuff working Friday as he had some trouble finding the strike zone, and when he did, the Braves took advantage. His three walks and six hits were the most he's allowed in a start this season while on the contrary, his three strikeouts were the fewest he's produced. Nola has a tough road matchup coming up next against the Nationals but he has the talent to bounce back and have a solid outing.
Aug 15, 2020
Blanks Mets for second win
Nola (2-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 6-2 victory over the Mets, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander got into a bit of trouble early, putting Mets on second and third with two outs in the first inning, but Nola then struck out Pete Alonso and didn't allow another runner past second base the rest of the way. He sat down the final 13 batters he faced and finished his night having thrown 66 of 102 pitches for strikes. Nola will take a sparkling 2.05 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 37:4 K:BB through 26.1 innings into his next outing Friday in Atlanta.
Aug 10, 2020
Cruises to first win
Nola (1-1) allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out 10 over eight innings in a win over the Braves on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies put up 10 runs in the first two innings against Atlanta and Nola went into cruise control, with the only blemish being a solo homer off the bat of Travis d'Arnaud. Nola has made just three starts -- he was pushed back earlier in the season after the team's COVID-19 scare -- but he has been great when on the mound (10 hits, 27:2 K:BB in 19.1 innings). The right-hander seems to be getting back to his 2018 ace form and will look to keep it going later this week against the Mets.
Aug 6, 2020
Dazzles against Yankees
Nola allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks while striking out 12 across six innings in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday against the Yankees. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Nola dominated the Yankees in his first start in 12 days, with the lone run he surrendered coming on a solo shot by Luke Voit. He generated 19 swinging strikes and 18 called strikes on 88 total pitches to match a career-high in strikeouts. This was only Nola's second start of the season due to a realigned schedule, though he has struck out 19 and walked only one in 11.1 innings of work. He's scheduled to take the mound again Monday against Atlanta.
Aug 4, 2020
Starting Game 2 Wednesday
Nola will start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was originally set to start Tuesday's contest, but the game was postponed due to Tropical Storm Isaias making landfall. Due to the ripple effects from Miami's COVID-19 outbreak, Nola has started only once this season and allowed four runs with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
Aug 3, 2020
Tuesday's start postponed
Nola won't make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Yankees, as the game has been postponed due to threats of severe weather.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees and Phillies are expected to be able to get Monday's game in but will move Tuesday's contest to Wednesday, where it will be part of a doubleheader in Philadelphia. The Phillies haven't officially announced their plans, but Nola will presumably start one of those two games. Nola has started just once this season, as the Phillies were held out of action for the entirety of last week while the league waited to determine whether or not they'd been caught up in the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak.
Aug 3, 2020
Lines up for two-start week
Nola is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees in New York, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
After getting the Opening Day nod for the Phillies back on July 24 versus the Marlins, Nola will return to the mound on nine days' rest on the heels of multiple postponements. Assuming no further scheduling snafus over the next few days, Nola will line up for a two-start week, with his second turn coming Sunday at home versus the Braves.
Jul 30, 2020
Start vs. Blue Jays postponed
Nola's scheduled start against the Blue Jays on Saturday has been postponed, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies announced that a pair of staff members tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week, prompting the team to shut down its stadium and postpone this weekend's series against the Blue Jays. It's unclear when Nola will get the ball next.
Jul 29, 2020
Won't start before Saturday
Nola won't start before Saturday at the earliest, with all Phillies games prior to that date postponed, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After starting Friday on Opening Day, Nola would have lined up to start Wednesday against the Yankees, but the entirety of that four-game series was postponed while the league waits to see whether or not the Phillies have been caught up in the Marlins' coronavirus outbreak that has seen approximately half of the team's active roster test positive for the virus. As of Wednesday, no Phillie has tested positive, but the league is being understandably cautious as the virus can sometimes take a few days to show up in test results. The first game of the Phillies' weekend series against the Blue Jays was postponed from Friday and move to part of a doubleheader Saturday, when Nola will presumably make his next start.
Jul 24, 2020
Fans seven in loss
Nola (0-1) allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven over 5.1 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Friday.
ANALYSIS
One of the runs against Nola scored after he exited the game. It still qualifies as a letdown in a favorable spot at home, though the seven strikeouts against one walk suggest there is little reason to panic. Nola will face a tough test his time out: the Yankees in the Bronx.
Jul 20, 2020
Ready for Opening Day
Nola will be the Phillies' Opening Day starter Friday against the Marlins, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
A typical rest schedule should see Nola face the Marlins twice in his first two starts, with a much tougher assignment against the Yankees sandwiched in between. Nola's ability to pitch on Opening Day had been in some doubt, as his arrival in camp was delayed due to the fact that he'd been exposed to someone who had tested positive for COVID-19. Whether or not he'll be able to handle a full starter's workload right away is unclear, but he'll be on the mound for at least a fair number of innings against one of the weaker lineups in the league.
Jul 13, 2020
Competing to start Opening Day
Manager Joe Girardi said Nola is definitely a possibility to start Opening Day, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola was a late arrival at the Phillies camp because he had been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, but he has cleared the MLB's testing protocol. The right-hander pitched well during Monday's intrasquad game and teammate Zack Wheeler remains uncertain if he'll rejoin the team from paternity. Nola went 12-7 in his fifth campaign in Philadelphia last season, posting a 3.87 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 229:80 K:BB across 34 starts.

Opening Day status uncertain
Nola may not be ready to start the Phillies' season opener on July 24 against the Marlins, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola arrived at Phillies camp Monday and explained that his absence from the team's first few workouts was due to the fact that he had been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 but that he'd never tested positive himself. Still, his time spent in isolation may mean he's not quite ready to go for the start of the season, which is less than three weeks away. The pitcher himself said earlier in the day that he expects to make the Opening Day start, but manager Joe Girardi said Monday that it's still too early to make that decision.

Never tested positive
Nola clarified the reason for his delayed arrival to camp Monday, explaining that he never tested positive for COVID-19 but was exposed to someone who had, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
MLB protocols dictate that players isolate themselves and get tested in Nola's situation, which he did. He never experienced symptoms, and his test results came back negative, but the timing involved in the processing of the test meant he was unable to participate in the team's initial workouts. The slight loss of practice time may have a small impact on the righty's readiness for his Opening Day start, but the fact that he never came down with the virus means there shouldn't be any long-lasting effects on his performance this season.

Arrives at camp
Nola was present at Phillies workouts Monday, John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
There was some confusion about Nola's status in recent days, as he was absent from the team's early workouts and was the subject of conflicting reports regarding whether or not he'd been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Regardless of the reason for his delayed arrival, he's evidently been cleared to join his teammates, though whether the lost time will have any impact on his readiness to take the hill on Opening Day remains to be seen.

Not on COVID-19 IL, away from team
Correcting an earlier report, Nola hasn't been placed on the COVID-19 injured list but remains away from the team because he either tested positive for the virus, showed symptoms or came in contact with someone who tested positive, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old fits the criteria to move to the COVID-19 IL and could be placed there in the coming days, but for now he'll simply stay away from the team. Even if he shifts to the specialized IL, it won't necessarily mean he's tested positive. Regardless, Nola's availability for the start of the season will remain cloudy until he's cleared to report to camp.

Moves to COVID-19 injured list
Nola was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Joe Girardi said earlier Saturday that Nola hasn't reported to camp but didn't offer any specifics on his absence, so it's not clear why he was placed on the specialized injured list. Players don't need to report a positive test to land on the COVID-19 IL, as they can be placed there for exhibiting symptoms or coming into contact with someone who tested positive. It's unclear when Nola is expected to join the team, but his preparation for the start of the season may be impacted given there's less than three weeks until Opening Day.

Yet to report
Nola has yet to report to the Phillies' summer camp, Matt Breen of The Philadelphia Inquirerreports.
ANALYSIS
The Phillies are legally unable to say whether or not Nola's absence, along with those of his teammates Christian Bethancourt and Adam Haseley, are related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Whether or not Nola's availability for the upcoming season will be impacted remains to be seen.

On track for Opening Day
Nola (illness) completed a bullpen session Thursday consisting of around 35-to-40 pitches, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nola was scratched ahead of his scheduled Grapefruit League start earlier this week after coming down with the stomach flu, but he's feeling better now and doesn't expect the missed outing to impact his readiness for Opening Day. The right-hander acknowledged he'll likely make one fewer spring start that initially planned, but he believes he'll need just one more Grapefruit League outing and a simulated game to get where he needs to be from a workload standpoint. The Phillies haven't officially named Nola their Opening Day starter, but there's little doubt he'll be on the bump March 26 against the Marlins if the coaching staff thinks he's ready to go.

Bullpen session coming Thursday
Nola (illness) is expected to throw a bullpen session Thursday, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Philadelphia manager Joe Girardi mentioned that Nola felt better Tuesday and that the plan is for his right-hander to pitch a simulated game on Saturday if things continue to trend upward. A flu bug was responsible for the 26-year-old having to skip his last turn in the rotation against the Yankees on Monday. Nola has made three starts (lasting a total of eight innings) thus far this spring and is on pace to gather two more starts before Opening Day arrives.

Could start Friday
Nola (illness) won't return to camp until Thursday and could start Friday against the Tigers, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
A flu bug caused Nola to be scratched from his start Monday against the Yankees and will wind up forcing him to skip his turn entirely rather than simply pushing his start back a day or two. He's made three starts (lasting a total of eight innings) thus far this spring and should have time to make two more before Opening Day, though the lost time could potentially mean he's not quite ready to pitch as deep into games as usual for his first start or two.

Scratched with flu
Nola won't make his scheduled start Monday against the Yankees after coming down with the flu, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Ramon Rosso will start in Nola's place. Assuming Nola recovers from the illness in a reasonable time, he should be set to make his third consecutive Opening Day start.
