Fails to record an out in loss
Rodon (3-8) took the loss Friday, failing to record an out while allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had put together consecutive quality starts in his previous two outings but failed to record an out in allowing all eight batters to reach base prior to his removal. He left with the bases loaded and having already allowed five runs, but by the time the inning was over, all eight runners had crossed the plate in what marks the worst outing of his career. It was a rough first season in New York for Rodon, who saw his ERA rise more than a point from 5.74 to 6.85 with this outing.

Falls to Arizona
Rodon (3-7) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs on five hits and a walk over 6.1 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The Diamondbacks got to Rodon twice in the opening inning, putting the Yankees in an early 2-0 hole. The left-hander would then deliver five shutout innings before Arizona scored three more runs in the seventh. Rodon's been inconsistent of late, pitching to a 6.65 ERA over his last four starts (21.2 innings). Overall, it's been a tough first season with the Yankees for Rodon -- he'll carry a 5.74 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and 64 strikeouts into his final start of the year, currently scheduled for late next week in Kansas City.
Sep 23, 2023
Saturday start postponed
Rodon won't take the hill Saturday against Arizona as scheduled, as the game has been postponed due to rain.
ANALYSIS
The game will be rescheduled at a later date, which may mean a doubleheader Sunday. If that's the case, Rodon would likely pitch one half of the twin bill.
Sep 17, 2023
Strikes out 10 in loss
Rodon (3-6) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits over 6.2 innings against the Pirates. He struck out 10.
ANALYSIS
It was a strong outing from Rodon, who set a new season high with 10 strikeouts while pitching into the seventh inning for the first time this year. However, he'd be stuck with the loss, as the Yankees offense couldn't provide enough run support in the 3-2 defeat. Rodon's now struck out 19 in his last two starts (11.2 innings), allowing four runs in that span. He'll carry a 5.90 ERA into his next outing, currently scheduled as a home matchup with the Diamondbacks.
Sep 13, 2023
Fans nine in third win
Rodon (3-5) picked up the win in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, allowing one run on four hits and four walks over five innings. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The nine strikeouts were a season high for the veteran southpaw, who generated 16 swinging strikes among his 93 pitches. Rodon also walked more than two batters for the first time since Aug. 1 though, and he served up at least one homer for the seventh straight outing, in this case the first career long ball for rookie Ceddanne Rafaela. Since returning to the rotation in late August after recovering from a hamstring issue, Rodon has a 4.81 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB through 24.1 innings, numbers which represent a marginal improvement on his performance through his first six starts as a Yankee. He'll try to build on this performance when he next takes the mound, which is likely to happen this weekend in Pittsburgh.
Sep 8, 2023
Destroyed by Detroit
Rodon (2-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings in a 10-3 loss to Detroit. He struck out four without issuing any walks.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old spotted the Tigers a two-run lead before registering an out Thursday, allowing a leadoff double to Matt Vierling before Spencer Torkelson hit a wall-scraping homer to right field. Rodon surrendered five more runs across the third and fourth frames, resulting in an early exit with a season-high seven runs charged to his line. After back-to-back campaigns with a sub-three ERA, the southpaw has endured a tumultuous first season in New York, compiling a 2-5 record with an unsightly 6.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a disappointing 1.95 K/BB ratio across 10 starts (46.1 innings). Rodon will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively scheduled to take place in Boston early next week.
Sep 1, 2023
Tosses five innings in win
Rodon (2-4) pitched five innings, surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four batters on his way to a win in Friday's 6-2 victory over the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Rodon put together another strong start Friday, allowing two or fewer runs for the third straight outing. He gave up a solo homer to Jose Abreu in the bottom of the second and then an RBI-double by Kyle Tucker in the third accounted for the final run on the left-hander's line. Since Aug. 22, Rodon has posted a 2.87 ERA over 15.2 innings in three starts.
Aug 28, 2023
Strikes out seven Sunday
Rodon did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in 4.2 innings against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
The Rays piled on two runs versus Rodon in the first inning off an error and a solo home run by Brandon Lowe. Rodon went on to retire 11 straight batters but got himself into trouble in the fifth with two walks and was pulled in favor of Ian Hamilton after 84 pitches. The 30-year-old registered a season-high seven strikeouts and allowed only two hard-hit balls but failed to reach five innings for the third time in his last four starts. Rodon now owns a 5.97 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 33:20 K:BB in 37.2 innings. He went winless in August and will look to change his fortunes in a matchup against the Astros his next time out.
Aug 23, 2023
Sharp in return
Rodon did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings against the Nationals. He struck out one.
ANALYSIS
Rodon pitched well in his return from the IL, holding the Nationals to just one run while making it through six innings for the first time this season. Through seven starts (33 innings) this season, Rodon is 1-4 with a 6.27 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 26:18 K:BB. He'll look to build on Tuesday's outing in his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend in Tampa Bay.
Aug 22, 2023
Activated for Tuesday's start
Rodon (hamstring) was activated from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander is set to rejoin the Yankees' rotation Tuesday versus the Nationals after spending the minimum 15 days on the IL with a strained left hamstring. Rodon did not make a rehab start, instead opting for a five-inning simulated game. Given how poorly he was pitching before the injury and perhaps less than a full workload on the docket, fantasy managers would be wise to keep Rodon benched for now, if possible.
Aug 18, 2023
Set to return Tuesday
Rodon (hamstring) will return to the rotation Tuesday against the Nationals, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had no lingering issues after a five-inning simulated game Wednesday and will jump back into action Aug. 22, exactly 15 days removed from his Aug. 7 placement on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain. The 30-year-old left-hander has thrown only 27 innings this season and carries a 7.33 ERA.
Aug 16, 2023
Throws five-inning sim game
Rodon (hamstring) threw a five-inning simulated game Wednesday in Tampa, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
As long as he responds well to the workout with no renewed discomfort, Rodon should be able to slot back into the Yankees' starting rotation next Tuesday (Aug. 22) against the Nationals. He's been on the 15-day injured list since Aug. 7 with a left hamstring strain after also missing the first three months of the 2023 campaign because of forearm and back problems.
Aug 13, 2023
Slated to face hitters
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Rodon (hamstring) will face hitters during a simulated game later this week, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon reportedly looked good in a bullpen session Saturday, and he will travel to Tampa to begin the next stage of his rehab process after the Yankees finish their series in Miami. If all goes according to plan, Rodon should be able to return immediately once he's eligible Aug. 22.
Aug 10, 2023
Throws from flat ground
Rodon (hamstring) threw from flat ground Wednesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was placed on the IL on Monday due to a low-grade left hamstring strain, but the Yankees indicated at the time that he would continue throwing. That plan has come to fruition, as the left-hander played catch Wednesday in Chicago. The initial indication is that Rodon could need just a minimum stay on the injured list, which would put hit in line to return for a home series against Washington that begins Aug. 22.
Aug 8, 2023
Will continue throwing while on IL
Rodon (hamstring) will continue to throw on flat ground in hopes that he will need only a minimum 15-day stay on the injured list, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon is dealing with a low-grade left hamstring strain and wanted to pitch through the injury, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone. However, the team decided to exercise caution and go ahead and IL him. Rodon has struggled mightily this season, posting a 7.33 ERA with 25:18 K:BB in 27 innings since coming back from forearm and back injuries.
Aug 7, 2023
Hits IL with hamstring strain
The Yankees placed Rodon on the 15-day injured list Monday after he was diagnosed with a left hamstring strain following an MRI.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had hoped to avoid a stint on the IL after he exited his start in Sunday's loss to the Astros in the third inning with what the Yankees had labeled as a left hamstring tightness, but follow-up tests determined he was dealing with a muscular tear. The veteran southpaw is headed to the IL for the second time this season, after he began the campaign on the shelf while recovering from forearm and back injuries before making his Yankees debut July 7. A timeline for Rodon's return hasn't yet been established, but his upcoming absence likely solidifies the struggling Luis Severino's spot in the rotation after Yankees manager Aaron Boone had previously been non-committal about Severino's role moving forward.
Aug 6, 2023
Slated for MRI
Rodon (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was removed from Sunday's start against the Astros due to left hamstring tightness, and the Yankees aren't yet sure whether he'll require a trip to the injured list. His imaging should help offer clarity on the severity of the injury, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the team update his status afterward. If Rodon is unable to make his next turn through the rotation, Luis Severino is a strong candidate to remain a starter.
Aug 6, 2023
Suffering from hamstring tightness
The Yankees announced that Rodon was removed from his start Sunday against the Astros due to left hamstring tightness. He was charged with five earned runs on three hits and two walks and struck out five over 2.2 innings prior to departing.
ANALYSIS
After being visited by a trainer on the mound to have his leg checked out, Rodon tried to plead his case to stay in the game, but the Yankees ultimately called an early end to what had been a rough outing even before the injury cropped up. Though an initial diagnosis for his injury has been provided, Rodon will be examined over the next 24 hours before the Yankees offer up an updated timeline for when the southpaw might be ready to pitch again. If Rodon is unable to make his next turn through the rotation next weekend in Miami and is forced to the injured list, Luis Severino would likely stick around as a starter after manager Aaron Boone was previously non-committal regarding Severino's role moving forward. The Yankees could also turn to Jhony Brito to replace Rodon in the rotation, if needed.
Aug 6, 2023
Pulled with injury
Rodon was removed during the third inning of Sunday's start against the Astros with an apparent leg injury, David Lennon of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
It was a rough day for Rodon even prior to the injury, as Houston tagged him for five runs on a pair of homers. The specifics of the 30-year-old's injury are unclear, leaving his availability for the next turn through the rotation up in the air.
Aug 2, 2023
Falls to Tampa Bay
Rodon (1-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings against the Rays. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
After Rodon surrendered a run in the second inning, Yandy Diaz led off the third with a solo homer before Randy Arozarena tacked on a two-run blast later in the frame. It's the third time through his first five outings that Rodon has allowed four or more runs. The 30-year-old southpaw's ERA is up to 6.29 with a 1.48 WHIP and 20:16 K:BB through his first 24.1 innings with the Yankees. Rodon will look to get on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for this weekend against Houston.
Jul 27, 2023
Nabs first win as Yankee
Rodon (1-3) earned the win over the Mets on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon logged his deepest outing of the campaign, notching one more out than in his season debut against the Cubs on July 7. The left-hander continued to struggle with his control -- he's walked multiple batters in each of his four starts and has 12 walks across 20.1 innings on the campaign -- but held the Mets to just one extra-base hit and one run. Rodon appears to still be trying to find his groove, as he's recorded just a 6.7 K/9 after posting a 12.2 K/9 over his previous two campaigns combined. Nonetheless, Wednesday's win was a step in the right direction given that Rodon had dropped each of his first three starts.
Jul 20, 2023
Lacks control in loss
Rodon (0-3) took the loss against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing six runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon followed an unsuccessful pattern in each of the first two innings: issuing a free pass and giving up a home run to the next batter. He then walked the first two hitters he faced in the third, both of whom came around to score. Altogether, the left-hander issued five free passes, one short of a career high. Rodon has lost all three of his starts since coming off the injured list July 7, though this was easily his worst outing so far. He's yet to find his footing as a Yankee, posting a 7.36 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB while serving up four homers over 14.2 innings.
Jul 15, 2023
Goes five innings in loss
Rodon (0-2) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Rodon gave up three runs in the second inning and a Randal Grichuk solo home run in the fourth. The positive from this outing was Rodon stretching out to 88 pitches (51 strikes), up from 69 pitches in his season debut a week ago. The veteran southpaw should be just about clear of any workload restrictions give his pitch count Friday, but he'll need to get some better run support. He's got an 8:4 K:BB with a 1.16 WHIP through 10.1 innings through two starts this season. Rodon's projected for a road start versus the Angels in his next outing.
Jul 8, 2023
Tosses 5.1 frames in season debut
Rodon (0-1) took the loss against the Cubs on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters over 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's first game as a Yankee came after a trio of minor-league rehab starts during which he allowed just one run and posted a 17:3 K:BB over 10.2 innings. The left-hander wasn't quite as effective against the Cubs, though he was just two outs away from recording a quality start. Rodon had topped out at 58 pitches during his rehab stint, and he was able to increase that number to 69 pitches Friday. Though he took the loss -- largely due to a complete absence of run support by New York's offense -- this was overall a positive outing for the veteran hurler given his long injury layoff. Rodon will have ample time to recover during the All-Star break, and he could start New York's first game in Colorado following the Midsummer Classic.
Jul 7, 2023
Activated for Yankees debut
Rodon was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon will make his long-awaited Yankees and season debut Friday against the Cubs following a long absence due to forearm and then back injuries. The left-hander threw just 58 pitches in his final rehab starts, so he'll be under some level of workload restriction Friday, although manager Aaron Boone declined to reveal exactly what that would be. Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Yankees over the offseason.
Jul 2, 2023
Lines up to start Friday
Rodon (back/forearm) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list to start Friday against the Cubs, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees have an open spot in their rotation Tuesday versus Baltimore, but Rodon lines up to pitch Friday given he made his last rehab start Saturday with High-A Hudson Valley. The right-hander threw 58 pitches in that outing, so he'll likely have some workload limitations in his Yankees debut.
Jul 1, 2023
Works 3.2 innings
Rodon threw 3.2 scoreless innings in a rehab outing with High-A Hudson Valley on Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This marked Rodon's third rehab start, and he stretched out to 58 pitches -- 38 of which went for strikes. It was also likely to be Rodon's final rehab appearance before being activated, as he's expected to make his Yankees debut July 7 against the Cubs.
Jun 29, 2023
Will make next rehab start Saturday
Rodon (back/forearm) is set to make his next minor-league rehab start Saturday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has been excellent in his first two rehab outings, totaling seven innings during which he has allowed just one run and two hits while posting a 9:1 K:BB. However, the left-hander has topped out at 48 pitches, so he's not quite ready to make his Yankees debut yet. Manager Aaron Boone explained that having Rodon go Saturday will keep him on six days of rest, and that the hurler's following outing could potentially be his debut with the big club July 7 at home against the Cubs. Boone added that Rodon would likely be in the "low-60 range" in terms of pitch count for that start and that the team intends to give him "somewhat regular" rest. Though Rodon may be facing multiple limitations early on, his return should still be a boost to fantasy managers who have been stashing him over the first half of the campaign. Even with less than a full workload, Rodon has the ability to rack up strikeouts and contribute strong ratios given his 2.67 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 12.2 K/9 over 55 starts across the past two seasons.
Jun 26, 2023
Excellent in second rehab start
Rodon (back/forearm) tossed four scoreless innings in a rehab start with Double-A Somerset on Sunday, allowing one hit and striking out four batters without issuing a walk.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's second minor-league appearance went even better than his first, and he increased his pitch count slightly from 42 to 48. He threw 36 of those pitches for a strike Sunday, and he's tallied nine punchouts against just one walk and two hits while allowing only one run over seven frames in his first two rehab outings combined. Rodon appears to be on track for one more rehab start before making his Yankees debut July 5, though manager Aaron Boone wouldn't commit to that plan when asked early in the week, per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.
Jun 21, 2023
Next rehab start coming Sunday
Rodon (back/forearm) will make his next rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Sunday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon pitched well in his rehab start for the Patriots on Tuesday, allowing one run over three innings with five strikeouts. The southpaw threw 42 pitches in the outing over his three frames, and he'll likely be tasked with another innings or a higher pitch count as he looks to build up after missing the first two-plus months of the season due to his back and forearm injuries. Assuming good health, Rodon should be able to rejoin the New York rotation in the early portion of July.
Jun 20, 2023
Whiffs five in rehab start
Rodon (back/forearm) fired three innings while allowing one run on one hit with a walk and five strikeouts in a rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon threw 42 pitches over the three frames, and 27 of them landed for strikes. It was the first competitive start for the left-hander since spring training, and while the results don't matter as much as the health, it's a reminder of his ability to miss bats when healthy. Rodon told reporters after the game that he's likely to pitch again Sunday, and that he felt strong and settled in as the start went on, Matt Kardos of MLB.com reports. He'll likely need to make at least two more rehab starts before having a chance to join the Yankees' rotation near the start of July.
Jun 16, 2023
Cleared for rehab assignment
Rodon (back/forearm) is slated to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The expectation is that Rodon will make around three starts on the farm before hopefully then debuting with the Yankees sometime in early July. He's been stalled by chronic back issues and a forearm strain here in the first half of the 2023 campaign after signing a six-year, $162 million contract with New York over the offseason.
Jun 11, 2023
Next live BP on tap Thursday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Rodon (back/forearm) will throw another live batting practice session Thursday before potentially beginning a minor-league rehab assignment, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
On Sunday, Rodon was able to face hitters for the second time since opening the season on the injured list with a left forearm strain before then experiencing chronic back issues. He seems to be moving past both injuries, as he hasn't experienced any setbacks since restarting his throwing program around mid-May. Assuming Rodon gets through the upcoming live session no worse for the wear, he could start pitching in minor-league games by the early part of next week. He'll likely require at least three rehab starts or simulated games to get stretched out enough to join the Yankees rotation.
Jun 9, 2023
Set for more live bullpens
Rodon (back/forearm) will throw at least two more live bullpen sessions before moving on to an extended rehab assignment, Max Goodman of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon threw his first bullpen session at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday and said it was "good," emphasizing that it was a "big step" in his goal of making his first regular-season start for the Yankees. The southpaw threw 20 pitches and sat at 92 to 94 mph on his fastball, and the tentative plan is for him to throw again Sunday, according to manager Aaron Boone. Rodon will then have at least one more live BP before embarking on a minor-league rehab stint that will allow him to ramp up his pitch count. Considering that progression, it appears Rodon won't make it back to the big club until at least early July.
Jun 7, 2023
Faces hitters Wednesday
Rodon (back/forearm) threw 20 pitches in a live bullpen session before Wednesday's game versus Chicago on Wednesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon told Phillips he threw around 20 pitches to Oswaldo Cabrera and Jake Bauers in the session. His fastball reportedly sat 92-94 mph, and he threw all of his pitches in the outing. The next step for the southpaw is another live session, but he's unsure when that will take place. Rodon has missed all of the 2023 campaign with forearm and back trouble, and he could make his first ever start as a member of the Yankees near the end of June if he continues to make progress.
Jun 6, 2023
Will face hitters Wednesday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Rodon (back/forearm) is slated to face hitters Wednesday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
While Rodon appears to be past the forearm strain that emerged early in spring training, he's been set back by an unrelated back injury that required a cortisone shot several weeks ago. The southpaw has subsequently started ramping back up and resumed mound work in late May. With throwing sessions against live hitters now in the forecast, Rodon appears to be inching closer to making his Yankees debut, though even if he encounters no further obstacles he's likely still several weeks away. It's possible that he could return in late June, though an early July target may be more feasible.
Jun 2, 2023
Could face live hitting soon
Rodon (back/forearm) was able to throw 30 pitches during a two-up session Friday, and he could face live hitters in the next few days, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips notes that Rodon had two "ups" in his session, and that his fastball sat 90-93 mph. Rodon has yet to be able to make his debut in 2023 because of a forearm strain as well as a back injury. The left-hander will need to rebuild his arm strength, but if he is able to face live hitting in the next few days, it could put him on track to make his first start with the Yankees before the end of June.
Jun 1, 2023
Moved to 60-day IL
Rodon (back/forearm) was transferred Thursday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
ANALYSIS
This is mostly just a procedural move to clear out a 40-man roster spot for Tommy Kahnle, who is recovered from a lingering bout of biceps tendinitis and has been activated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move. Rodon remains without a timetable to return from his lingering back and forearm injuries, though he did recently resume throwing off a mound and has another bullpen session scheduled for Friday.
May 31, 2023
Another bullpen session coming
Rodon (back/forearm) will throw another bullpen session Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Friday will mark Rodon's third bullpen session since he resumed throwing May 14. While he still doesn't have a timetable in place for a return, the fact he still hasn't faced hitters yet signals that it could be a few more weeks before Rodon makes his season debut.
May 29, 2023
Fares well in latest bullpen
Rodon (back) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session at high intensity Monday, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon felt strong during his latest side session, which marks his second since suffering a forearm strain during spring training. According to Kirschner, the next step for Rodon will be another bullpen session later in the week. The team has yet to unveil a concrete timetable for his return.
May 29, 2023
Another bullpen session on tap
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Rodon (back/forearm) is slated to throw a bullpen session Monday in Seattle, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
For the first time since late April, Rodon threw a bullpen session Friday and is reportedly "doing well" following the workout, according to Boone. The southpaw was initially placed on the 15-day injured list coming out of spring training due to a forearm strain, but he seems to have made a full recovery from that injury and now looks to be working back from a back issue that cropped up in April and eventually required an injection. The fact that Rodon is traveling with the Yankees on their six-game road trip this week can be taken as a positive sign, though it's unclear if he'll be able to advance to facing hitters before the team returns to New York next Monday. Rodon remains without an official timeline to make his 2023 debut, but he still looks to be at least two or three weeks away even if he avoids any further setbacks in his rehab program.
May 26, 2023
Slated for bullpen session
Rodon (back) will throw a bullpen session Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the first time the left-hander has thrown from the bump since he received a cortisone injection for his nagging back injury. Rodon plans to travel with the Yankees on their road trip next week as he continues his rehab. He will need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment once he's deemed game-ready and it's uncertain when he might be cleared for that.
May 23, 2023
Hoping for mound work soon
Rodon (back) said Tuesday that he's hoping to begin throwing off a mound soon, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has made good progress since receiving a cortisone injection for his nagging back injury and is almost ready to try things out from the bump. It's not clear when he might be ready for a rehab assignment, but it's going to be a while and he will require multiple rehab starts. So, while things are trending in the right direction, it seems likely that Rodon is at least a month away from making his season debut.
May 23, 2023
Rejoins team as rehab progresses
Rodon (back) has rejoined the Yankees in New York to continue his rehab, manager Aaron Boone told the Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon isn't throwing off a mound yet but has been pain-free throwing on flat ground since receiving a cortisone injection for his nagging back injury. His still has a long road ahead as he slowly builds back up but is moving in the right direction.
May 20, 2023
Progressing well with injury
Rodon (back) threw from 120 feet Friday and is heading to New York to continue his rehab Saturday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has been slowly approaching a distant return from his back injury, extending from throwing 90 feet to 120 feet this past week. That being said, the chronic back issue has required a cortisone injection already and the left-hander is yet to throw off the mound. All things considered, manager Aaron Boone said that "everything went well" Friday and that the hope is that Rodon is nearing mound work. In the end, the 30-year-old remains without any concrete timetable for a return.
May 17, 2023
Advances throwing to 90 feet
Rodon (back) advanced his throwing to 90 feet Wednesday without issue, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The cortisone injection for Rodon's chronic back issue seems to have done the trick, as he's thrown multiple times in the last several days without any problems and plans for a second injection have been scuttled. Rodon will continue to ramp up his throwing program in the coming days and will eventually try things from the mound if he continues to progress.
May 17, 2023
May not need second injection
Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated Tuesday that Rodon (back) currently doesn't need a second cortisone injection, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had a "cortisone-like" shot scheduled for midway through the week, but it doesn't appear that he'll need it. Goodman also reports that Rodon threw Friday, Saturday and Monday, so he seems to be feeling better after a back injury halted his throwing program in mid-April. Though he appears to be past a forearm strain that cropped up early in spring training, the southpaw's back issue has been described as "chronic," so it's still uncertain how far away he may be from beginning a rehab assignment. As it currently stands, it seems unlikely that Rodon will appear in a game with the Yankees before mid-June.

Starts throwing program
Manager Aaron Boone said Rodon (back) threw on flat ground from 60-to-75 feet Saturday and Sunday, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old recently resumed taking part in physical activities and was quickly cleared to start up a throwing program. Rodon has been unable to pitch this season due to a forearm strain and chronic back issues, the latter of which he received a cortisone injection for in early May. The left-hander still has significant building up to do before progressing to game action, which likely means his return remains more than a month away.
May 13, 2023
Begins physical activity
Rodon (back) has begun physical activities over the last two days and have his readiness to begin a throwing program assessed Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Injuries have thus far prevent Rodon from getting his Yankees career off the ground, including both a forearm strain and chronic back issues. The back problem is the primary one at this point, but he's at least been able to take one small step towards his return after receiving a cortisone shot in early May. His return timeline should become clearer once it's revealed whether or not he's ready to begin throwing.
May 9, 2023
Could throw off mound this weekend
Rodon (back) was given a cortisone injection Tuesday and could throw off a mound as soon as this weekend, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon will be shut down for 48 hours following the injection before beginning exercises Friday. If that goes well, he could be cleared to throw off a mound soon after. Rodon is battling through what's been described as a chronic back issue and the hope is the injection will help get him over the hump. He'll have to get ramped back up and begin a rehab assignment before a potential timetable for return can be considered.
May 5, 2023
Back injury consider chronic
Rodon told reporters that he's been told his back issue is "chronic," and that he can't put a timeline on a return at this point, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. "I can't put a timeline on anything," Rodon said. "I'll get this injection and I want to throw as soon as I can."
ANALYSIS
Rodon will undergo a cortisone injection in the early part of next week with the hope that it will help him return in a quicker fashion to the mound. Unfortunately, it sounds like this might not be an issue for the left-hander throughout the 2023 season, but potentially throughout his career. It sounds like Rodon now has very little chance of returning in the month of May, and it's possible he won't be able to make his debut for the Yankees until after the All-Star break.
May 5, 2023
Cortisone injection coming
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Friday that Rodon (back) will have a cortisone injection as soon as possible, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone told reporters that the medical consensus is that it will help him get back on the mound more quickly. Rodon has recovered from the forearm issue that kept him out at the beginning of the season, but the back trouble he picked up during his rehab has stagnated his progress. It seems likely that the left-hander's return will be closer to the end of May than the middle of it.
May 3, 2023
Undergoing more tests
Rodon (back) will undergo more testing Thursday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon no longer has any issues with his pitching arm, but his back is still bothering him and the Yankees are trying to get a better handle on it. Based on how Thursday's tests go, they should have a new plan on how to best attack Rodon's rehab.
May 2, 2023
Back still bothering him
Rodon's back is still bothering him and affecting his mechanics, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told Chris Kirschner of The Athletic on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's pitching arm is a non-issue at this point, but he's been unable to get over the hump with a back problem which first cropped up in early April. Boone said the team is still discussing how best to proceed with Rodon's rehab. The lefty has had a few bullpen sessions but it's possible he might be shut down for a bit again.
May 1, 2023
Completes bullpen session
Rodon (forearm/back) tossed 22 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, per MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was shut down from throwing in mid-April after experiencing continued discomfort in his back. The issue appears to have subsided, as the left-hander was able to throw off a mound in Friday's session. The good news is that the forearm strain that initially sent him to the IL in late March appears to be a thing of the past, and Rodon could up his pitch count and intensity in additional bullpen sessions before eventually embarking on a rehab assignment. However, he appears to still be multiple weeks away from a return even in a best-case scenario.
Apr 25, 2023
Plan to throw off mound Friday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that the plan is for Rodon (back) to throw off the mound Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was able to play catch Sunday, and now will be ready to throw a bullpen as he continues to make progress from his forearm strain and back injury. The southpaw will likely need to throw several bullpens before beginning his rehab assignment, and he could be making starts for the Yankees in the middle of May if everything goes smoothly.
Apr 23, 2023
Plays catch Sunday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters that Rodon (back) played catch before Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone also told reporters that the plan is for Rodon to continue with his throwing program this week, and that a bullpen would be the next step for the southpaw. Rodon has yet to be able to make his debut for the Yankees because of a forearm strain and now a back injury, and because of his lengthy absence he'll likely need a long rehab before returning to the rotation for New York near the end of May at the earliest.
Apr 20, 2023
Shut down for a few days
Rodon (back) will not throw for a few days and is set to undergo a CT scan, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has already undergone some testing on his back, which came back normal, but he'll have a CT scan, too, just to be safe. The Yankees still believe the back problem to be minor, although it will push back the left-hander's return timetable. Once he faces live hitters -- which could come right after the shutdown period -- Rodon is expected to be about a month away from action. That means he's probably not going to make it back until at least the latter part of May.
Apr 19, 2023
Tests on back return normal
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the initial tests on Rodon's ailing back came back "normal," Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone noted that the Yankees are still waiting on a few other tests before determining Rodon's next steps with regard to the back injury, which the skipper labeled a "minor nagging thing." Rodon was placed on the 15-day injured list March 30 due to the left forearm strain he sustained earlier in spring training, but the back issue is considered the prevailing concern at this juncture. The southpaw recently resumed throwing bullpen sessions and could advance to facing live hitters within the next few days if the final tests on his back reveal nothing concerning.
Apr 18, 2023
Undergoing tests on back
Rodon's (forearm) back is "still barking" and he will undergo tests, per Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees don't think anything is seriously wrong with Rodon's back, but they've decided to send him for tests just to be safe. The left-hander was still able to throw a bullpen session as scheduled Monday. Rodon initially went on the injured list with a forearm strain, but that is viewed as a non-issue now.
Apr 15, 2023
Scheduled for bullpen session
Rodon (forearm) will throw a two-inning bullpen session Sunday or Monday and could then progress to facing live hitters, per the Associated Press.
ANALYSIS
Rodon threw a bullpen session at the Yankees' complex in Tampa on Wednesday and came away feeling fine, according to manager Aaron Boone, though the southpaw's session was at "less intensity" due to an earlier bout of back stiffness, per MLB.com. Boone noted that the team's initial indication that Rodon could return in late April was "a little aggressive," but the hurler's recent progress suggests that he could be on track for activation in the first half of May.
Apr 11, 2023
Resumes throwing
Rodon (forearm/back) threw on flat ground Tuesday and is slated for a bullpen session Wednesday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's rehab was delayed a bit due to some back stiffness, but it appears he's over that little flareup. Yankees manager Aaron Boone also said the forearm strain which initially sent Rodon to the injured list is a non-issue now. If Wednesday's bullpen session goes well, Rodon will throw live batting practice Friday. Boone indicated that the lefty returning before the end of April is unlikely.
Apr 11, 2023
Delayed by back tightness
Rodon's (forearm) rehab has been delayed a few days due to back tightness, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the Talkin' Yanks podcast Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
It's wouldn't appear to be a major setback, but Rodon has had to hit pause on his throwing program. The left-hander had been slated to throw live batting practice Monday, but apparently that didn't happen. Once Rodon begins throwing live BP, he's expected to be about a month away from joining the Yankees' rotation.
Apr 7, 2023
Slated for live batting practice
Rodon (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the first time the left-hander has faced hitters since he was diagnosed with a left forearm strain nearly a month ago. The Yankees had said previously that Rodon would be about a month away from a return once he progresses to live BP, so this would put the timetable for his season debut roughly around May 10. That's if he continues to move along without any hiccups, of course.
Apr 2, 2023
Could see hitters in next session
Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday that Rodon (forearm) could pitch with hitters in the box for his next session, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon will have another "two-up" session the next time he's on the mound, and while it won't be a live bullpen, it's another step forward for the southpaw. The 30-year-old hurler is expected to miss close to a month while recovering from a left forearm strain, but he could make his debut with the Yankees late in April or the early part of May.
Mar 30, 2023
Goes on IL
The Yankees placed Rodon (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Though he'll open his tenure with the Yankees on the shelf with a left forearm strain, Rodon is already starting to ramp up again. He most recently completed a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday, and he could be cleared to resume facing hitters as soon as next week once he gets another side session or two under his belt. Rodon is still likely to require multiple rehab starts or simulated games to get fully stretched out for starting duties, so he shouldn't be expected to enter the Yankees rotation until late April at the soonest.
Mar 27, 2023
Ups intensity of side session
Rodon (forearm) completed a 30-pitch bullpen session Monday and was encouraged by how he felt afterward, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following a two-week shutdown period, Rodon resumed mound work last Thursday, tossing a 15-pitch side session. He doubled up that pitch count Monday and is expected to throw off a mound once or twice more before advancing to facing hitters. While he continues to work through a left forearm strain, Rodon is expected to be on a build-up program that lasts around a month, so fantasy managers who are stashing him early on during the season shouldn't bank on him being ready to debut until late April in a best-case scenario.
Mar 24, 2023
Will be a month away after live BP
Rodon (forearm) will be about a month away from joining the Yankees' rotation once he throws a live batting practice session, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon threw a bullpen session Thursday and will need 2-3 more before progressing to live batting practice. That would seem to leave him at least a week away from live BP, making a return before the end of April unlikely. It's a rough timetable for the time being, and Rodon does seem to be recovering well from his minor forearm strain. However, it's just going to take a little time.
Mar 23, 2023
Throws 15-pitch bullpen session
Rodon (forearm) threw a 15-pitch, all-fastballs bullpen session Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
It was his first time on the bump since he went down with a left forearm strain in early March. Rodon is slated to play catch Friday and throw another bullpen session in a few days, mixing in some breaking balls that time. The southpaw is expected to need 2-4 bullpen sessions and a couple live batting practice sessions before being cleared for a rehab assignment.
Mar 23, 2023
Throwing bullpen session Thursday
Rodon (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be his first time throwing off a mound since he was diagnosed with a forearm muscle strain back on March 9. Rodon is expected to throw 2-4 bullpen sessions before progressing to a couple live batting practice sessions and then a rehab assignment. That would seem to rule him out until at least late April, although a clearer timetable should be available as he continues his progression.
Mar 18, 2023
Feeling good after throwing
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday that Rodon (forearm) is feeling good after throwing, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was able to throw Friday, and continues to make strong progress from the forearm muscle strain he was diagnosed with on March 9. The left-hander is still a lock to begin the 2023 campaign on the injured list, but there's a good chance he'll only miss two-to-three starts; a major win for fantasy players and for a Yankees team that has dealt with significant injury concerns during the Grapefruit League season.
Mar 15, 2023
May miss just 2-3 starts
Rodon's rehab from a forearm muscle strain is going well, and he could miss just two or three starts if he doesn't have any setbacks once he resumes throwing, Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon underwent an MRI last week, which revealed that he's dealing with a mild muscle strain and that the UCL in his left arm is intact. Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that the veteran hurler could begin a throwing program "hopefully soon," indicating that Rodon has reached "a point that he needed to get to from a range of motion standpoint." Boone added that he's optimistic about the injury and its long-term implications, which should alleviate the fears of Yankees fans (and managers who have drafted Rodon in fantasy) about the forearm strain being a devastating issue. In fact, if all goes well moving forward, Rodon could make his regular-season pitching debut sometime around mid-April.
Mar 9, 2023
Has forearm strain, headed for IL
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman announced Thursday that Rodon has been diagnosed with a left forearm strain and will open the season on the injured list, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon will be in no-throw mode for at least the next 7-10 days and is seemingly in danger of being sidelined through all of April. The strain is being called mild, per Cashman, but this qualifies as another tough blow to a Yankees rotation which already lost Frankie Montas to shoulder surgery in February. Rodon joined New York on a blockbuster six-year, $162 million contract back in December.
Mar 9, 2023
Purposely limits velocity
Rodon was asked by the Yankees to keep his fastball velocity at around 92 mph during his spring debut Sunday against Atlanta, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was shelled by Atlanta in his first game (albeit an exhibition contest) in a Yankees uniform, giving up five runs on six hits and one walk over two-plus innings. It's rarely wise to read deeply into spring-training results, and that's especially true in this instance, as Rodon was tasked with keeping the velocity on his fastball in check as part of his build-up toward the regular season. Per Joyce, the left-hander touched 95 mph one time in the first inning of Sunday's game before manager Aaron Boone asked him to pull back following the frame. Rodon averaged 95.5 mph on his four-seamer last season and 95.4 mph on the pitch in 2021, so it's reasonable to expect that he'll get to around that number again this season -- and pitch to better results than he did Sunday -- once he is fully built up.
Mar 6, 2023
Roughed up in spring debut
Rodon hurled two-plus innings in a Grapefruit League game against Atlanta on Sunday, allowing five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two batters.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's first game action in a Yankee uniform went about as poorly as possible, as the southpaw was shelled by Atlanta's bats. Three of the hits against him went for extra bases, and both Matt Olson and Austin Riley took Rodon deep. The third inning was particularly brutal for the New York newcomer, as he allowed five runners to reach base without recording an out. Of course, this was still just an exhibition contest, so fantasy managers who have drafted Rodon as an anchor of their rotation need not despair. He'll have plenty of time to straighten things out ahead of Opening Day.
Dec 15, 2022
Signs with Yankees
Rodon signed a six-year, $162 million contract with the Yankees on Thursday,Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon bet on himself by signing a one-year contract with San Francisco for the 2022 season. He delivered an excellent 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 237:52 K:BB across 178 innings and will now be rewarded with a lucrative long-term deal. In addition to his strong ratios and strikeout total, Rodon's inning total was also notable, as he overcame shoulder and elbow injuries from earlier in his career to prove he's capable of carrying a heavy workload. He'll join Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes (groin), and Luis Severino to form an imposing rotation in New York.
Nov 6, 2022
Opts out of deal
Rodon exercised his 2023 opt-out clause and became a free agent Sunday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon signed a two-year deal with San Francisco ahead of the 2022 campaign but will seek out a new contract after he posted a 2.88 ERA, 237:52 K:BB and 1.03 WHIP in 178 innings during his first season with the Giants. The southpaw figures to draw plenty of interest in free agency ahead of his age-30 season.
Oct 4, 2022
Moves to injured list
Rodon was feeling under the weather Tuesday and was placed on the 15-day injured list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander was originally slated to start Tuesday but instead had his final turn through the rotation skipped with the Giants already eliminated from postseason contention, and the team opted to move him to the IL to free up a spot on the active roster. Alex Cobb is pitching against the Padres in his place. Rodon closed out the year with a 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 237:52 K:BB across a career-high 178 innings, and he's likely to decline his player option for 2023 and become a free agent during the offseason.
Oct 4, 2022
Not starting Tuesday
Rodon won't start Tuesday against the Padres and is unlikely to pitch in Wednesday's season finale, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Gabe Kapler indicated Monday the left-hander may not make his final turn through the rotation Tuesday, and Alex Cobb has now been announced as the starter for the penultimate game of the season. Rodon threw a career-high 178 frames in 2022 and had a 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 237:52 K:BB with a 14-8 record. He joined the Giants on a two-year, $44 million deal in March but can opt out of the contract, and is likely to do so, since he exceeded 110 innings.
Oct 3, 2022
Could be done for season
Rodon may not make his final start of the regular season due to workload management, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Manger Gabe Kapler noted Monday that there's a possibility the ace won't make his final scheduled start of the season Tuesday against the Padres, noting his increase in workload during the 2022 campaign. Rodon owns a 14-8 record with a 2.88 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with a 237:52 K:BB across 178 frames, a career high for the southpaw. The team has yet to make a final decision, however.

Strikes out 10 in win
Rodon (14-8) earned the win Thursday over the Rockies, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits across six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon recorded his 11th double-digit strikeout tally of the season in a dominant start, one of his best of the second half of the campaign. He finishes September having allowing seven runs (six earned) across 26.2 innings through five starts this month. The ace southpaw has a 2.88 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 237:52 K:BB across 178 innings through 31 starts overall. He tentatively lines up to make his final start of the season next week in San Diego.
Sep 24, 2022
Surrenders four in no-decision
Rodon didn't factor into the decision during Friday's 6-5 win against Arizona, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon permitted a two-run Stone Garrett home run in the third inning and put two on in the fifth before being pulled, with both runners coming around to score. The poor start is only the 29-year-old's second in his last 10 turns, during which he's pitched to a 2.25 ERA with 79 strikeouts in 56 innings. Rodon possesses a 2.98 ERA and 1.05 WHIP to go along with the second most strikeouts in MLB at 227 across 30 starts.
Sep 19, 2022
Start pushed to Friday
Rodon's next start will be moved to Friday against the Diamondbacks due to a blister and cracked nail on his left hand, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
It was initially believed that Rodon was on track to make his scheduled start Tuesday in Colorado, but the team has decided to exercise caution by giving him a few extra days to recover. The Giants have yet to name Tuesday's starter following this change of plans.
Sep 17, 2022
Should make next start
Rodon (finger) looks to be good to go for his next start, which lines up to come Tuesday in Colorado, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon left his last start against Atlanta after just five innings and 71 pitches due to a blister and a cracked nail, but it doesn't look as though the issue will force him to miss a turn in the rotation. That's excellent news for the Giants and for those with Rodon on their fantasy teams, as Rodon's dominant season makes him a strong choice even at Coors Field.
Sep 14, 2022
Picks up win despite blister
Rodon (13-8) earned the win against Atlanta on Wednesday after giving up one unearned run across five innings, but he exited the contest due to a blister and a cracked nail on one of his fingers, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports. The left-hander struck out eight and allowed two hits and one walk.
ANALYSIS
Rodon threw 47 of 71 pitches for strikes through five innings before departing the contest, as the finger issues didn't diminish his effectiveness. The 29-year-old's next turn through the rotation tentatively lines up for Tuesday in Colorado, and manager Gabe Kapler believes Rodon will be good to go for that outing.
Sep 9, 2022
Punches out 11 in loss
Rodon (12-8) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out 11 and taking a loss against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Aside from Yan Gomes' two-run shot in the second inning, Rodon turned in a dominant performance in the tough-luck loss. The 29-year-old southpaw has recorded double-digit strikeouts in four of his last five starts, improving his K:BB to 212:48 through 162.2 frames. Rodon has given up two or fewer runs in seven of his last eight outings and he's now sporting a 2.93 ERA on the year. He's expected to face Atlanta at home next week.
Sep 4, 2022
Strong start goes unrewarded
Rodon took a no-decision Sunday versus the Phillies, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out 10 over six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon did his part, throwing 70 of his 106 pitches for strikes. John Brebbia couldn't hold the lead in the eighth inning, denying Rodon the win, though the Giants ultimately prevailed with a walkoff in the ninth. Rodon has recorded double-digit strikeouts in five of his last eight starts, and he's allowed more than two runs only twice in that span. The southpaw has a 2.92 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 201:47 K:BB through 157.1 innings across 27 starts this season. He's projected for a road start at Wrigley Field during next weekend's three-game series versus the Cubs.
Aug 30, 2022
Rocked early in loss
Rodon (12-7) took the loss against San Diego on Monday, pitching four innings and allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two batters.
ANALYSIS
Rodon got into an early hole, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in the first inning. He bounced back with two straight scoreless frames but gave up two more runs in the fourth and was subsequently pulled. The left-hander tied a season high with four walks in the contest and managed only two punchouts after reaching double-digit strikeouts in each of his past two starts. Rodon entered Monday on a roll, having posted a 1.44 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 41:2 K:BB over his previous five starts.
Aug 23, 2022
Electric versus Tigers
Rodon (12-6) earned a win after he pitched seven innings, surrendering one run on five hits while striking out 10 in Tuesday's victory over the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was in full command Tuesday, tossing six scoreless innings before the Tigers finally scratched a run across in the bottom of the seventh, accounting for all the damage against him. The left-hander registered double-digit punchouts for the second straight start and fourth time in six outings. Rodon has now compiled three consecutive quality starts, allowing four runs over 19 innings while striking out 28 batters over that stretch. He now owns a 2.81 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 189 strikeouts over 147.1 frames in 25 outings this season.
Aug 18, 2022
Mows down 11 batters in no-decision
Rodon did not factor in the decision against Arizona on Wednesday despite allowing only one run on two hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon exited after seven frames staked to a one-run lead, but an eighth-inning Diamondbacks comeback removed his chance at a win. Despite the final outcome, the southpaw was dominant in the outing, racking up 19 swinging strikes and registering double-digit punchouts for the third time in his past five starts. Rodon has posted a 2.67 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 41:4 K:BB over 30.1 innings during that stretch. He ranks third in the majors with 179 strikeouts on the campaign.
Aug 7, 2022
Earns 10th win
Rodon (10-6) gave up one earned run on five hits and no walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings to earn the win in a 7-3 victory over the Athletics on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon continued his excellent 2022 campaign by holding the Athletics to only one run on a Sean Murphy single. The performance wasn't his most dominant, but he did enough to pick up his tenth win of the season while lowering his ERA to back under 3.00. The hard-throwing lefty now boasts a 161:39 K:BB in 128.1 innings this season to go along with an ERA of 2.95. He tentatively lines up for a favorable matchup at home against the Pirates in his next expected start.
Aug 1, 2022
Shuts down Cubs
Rodon (9-6) earned the win during Sunday's 4-0 shutout of the Cubs, allowing two hits while striking out 10 in seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
In what may have been a final audition prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, Rodon completely shut down Chicago's offense --permitting singles in the first and fourth with neither baserunner making it past first base -- and retiring the final 10 batters he faced, five via the strikeout. The hard-throwing lefty fired 64 of 98 pitches for strikes with 15 of the swinging variety and concludes July with 53 strikeouts in six starts to pull within four of MLB leader Gerrit Cole at 158 on the season. If Rodon remains a Giant, he's slated to take the mound again next weekend against Oakland.
Jul 27, 2022
Stung by long ball
Rodon (8-6) took the loss during Tuesday's 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks, allowing five runs on three hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon pitched well Tuesday -- surrendering only six baserunners -- but was stung by the home run, permitting a Sergio Alcantara two-run shot in the second inning and a Christian Walker three-run homer in the third. Despite the loss, Rodon struck out at least seven batters for the fifth straight start and has now fanned 43 batters across 30 frames during the span. The 29-year-old carries a 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP into his next start, currently lined up for Sunday Night Baseball against the Cubs.
Jul 22, 2022
Struggles against Dodgers
Rodon allowed five runs on six hits and two walks while striking out seven batters over five innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had been dealing with a blood blister and a split nail on his pitching hand prior to the All-Star break, but he opted not to throw in the Tuesday's All-Star Game and instead used the time off to try to recover. Though he was able to start San Francisco's first game following the exhibition contest, it's not clear if the issues affected him. What is clear is that the southpaw had one of his poorest outings of the season, giving up just his fifth homer of the campaign -- a solo shot by Freddie Freeman in the first inning -- and allowing five runs for only the second time through 19 starts. Still, it wasn't a totally inept appearance for the southpaw, as he racked up 17 swinging strikes and seven punchouts against one of the league's best offenses.

Cleared to start vs. Dodgers
Rodon (finger) is listed as the Giants' starting pitcher for Friday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Following his most recent start last Thursday against the Brewers, Rodon relayed that he was dealing with a blood blister and a split nail to a finger on his pitching hand. Though neither issue was viewed as a major concern, Rodon still chose to err on the side of caution by withdrawing from Tuesday's All-Star Game and using the break to heal up. He appears to be feeling fine as the Giants begin their second-half schedule, as the team could have pushed his next start back to later in the four-game series with the Dodgers if there was truly any worry about his health.

Dealing with minor finger issues
Rodon has both a blood blister and a split nail, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

It's possible the issues explain why Rodon allowed eight hits in five innings against the Brewers on Thursday, though he struck out seven batters and only allowed one run, so it's hard to say he pitched poorly. The lefty won't pitch in the All-Star Game as a result of his finger troubles, but it's not yet clear whether either issue will delay his first start of the second half.

Lasts five innings in no-decision
Rodon allowed a run on eight hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in five innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After a 112-pitch complete game his last time out, Rodon was significantly less efficient Thursday. He threw 68 of 99 pitches for strikes, but the 11 baserunners he allowed matched a season high. The southpaw was able to limit the damage to an Andrew McCutchen sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. Rodon has a 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 131:35 K:BB through 105 innings in 18 starts, and he'll be heading to the All-Star Game next week in Los Angeles.
Jul 10, 2022
Strikes out 12 in complete game win
Rodon (8-5) earned the win Saturday over the Padres. He allowed one run on three hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts in nine innings.
ANALYSIS
For the ninth time in 17 starts, Rodon limited the opposition to one or fewer runs. This was the third complete game of his career, and his first since his no hitter on April 14, 2021. The southpaw dialed up double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this year, and he threw 79 of 112 pitches for strikes. He's pitched to an excellent 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 124:32 K:BB through 100 innings. Rodon will likely get one more start before the All-Star break, which is currently projected as a home game versus the Brewers next week.

Fans seven in Monday's loss
Rodon (7-5) took the loss Monday, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks over five innings in an 8-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw recovered after looked shaky in the early innings but the Giants' offense couldn't climb out of the hole, and their bullpen kept digging after Rodon left the mound. He tossed 63 of 101 pitches for strikes while seeing his quality start streak end at four, and Rodon will take a 2.87 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 112:30 K:BB through 91 innings into his next outing.
Jun 29, 2022
Strong in seventh win
Rodon (7-4) allowed a run on seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter in six innings, earning the win Tuesday versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Rodon turned in five shutout frames before Miguel Cabrera tagged him for an RBI single in the sixth. Over his last 27 innings, Rodon has allowed two runs while posting a 30:6 K:BB, winning three of his four starts in that span. The ace lowered his ERA to 2.62 with a 1.09 WHIP and 105:28 K:BB in 86 innings overall. He's lined up for a road start in Arizona next week as he looks to stay hot into July.

Punches out 10 batters Wednesday
Rodon allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters over seven innings against Atlanta on Wednesday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Rodon kept the Braves off the scoreboard for six innings before surrendering a run in the seventh. He departed after that frame with a lead, but the Giants' bullpen blew the save in the ninth, tagging Rodon with a no-decision. The lefty hurler has been on quite a roll of late, allowing only one run while striking out 26 batters over 21 innings covering his past three starts. He ranks fifth in the majors with 101 punchouts on the campaign.
Jun 18, 2022
Turns in another gem
Rodon (6-4) allowed two hits and two walks while striking out eight over eight scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was nearly untouchable, facing the minimum number of batters through four innings with the help of a double play. He's now logged 14 scoreless innings across his last two starts, both wins, after a five-start stretch without a victory. The southpaw has a 2.84 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 91:27 K:BB in 73 innings across 13 starts overall, and he's projected to make his next turn through the rotation in Atlanta next week.
Jun 12, 2022
Returns to dominance Sunday
Rodon (5-4) allowed two hits and three walks while striking out eight over six scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
This was the second time Rodon's kept runs off the board in his 12 starts this season, and he hadn't recorded eight or more strikeouts since May 9. The 29-year-old threw 64 of his 98 pitches for strikes and efficiently limited the Dodgers' chances to generate offense. Rodon has a 3.18 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 83:25 K:BB through 65 innings in 12 starts. He'll look to build off of this start next weekend in Pittsburgh.
Jun 8, 2022
Short outing Tuesday
Rodon allowed two runs on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts in four innings, taking a no-decision Tuesday versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was brutally inefficient, needing 98 pitches to complete four frames in his second-shortest start of the year. He's still allowed more than two runs only twice in his 11 outings this season, but the southpaw has now gone without a win in his last five games. He's at a 3.51 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 75:22 K:BB through 59 innings this season. Rodon will aim to pitcher deeper into his next start, tentatively scheduled to be a home showdown with the Dodgers this weekend.
Jun 2, 2022
Fans six in no-decision
Rodon didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Phillies, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw fired 64 of 98 pitches for strikes and was still the pitcher of record when the Giants took a 5-2 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but the bullpen quickly squandered it. Rodon has seen his season-opening hot streak fade and has completed six innings only once in his last four starts, leaving him with a 3.44 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 70:21 K:BB through 55 innings.
May 28, 2022
Takes third straight loss
Rodon (4-4) was charged with the loss Friday against the Reds after allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander threw 58 of his 99 pitches for strikes and generated only six swinging strikes, which resulted in his lowest punchout total of the season. Rodon had a 4-1 record with a 1.80 ERA and 53:12 K:BB through his first six starts of the season, but he's now lost his past three outings and has a 7.80 ERA and 12:8 K:BB in those defeats.
May 22, 2022
Stuck with loss in quality start
Rodon (4-3) took the loss Saturday as the Giants were downed 2-1 by the Padres, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The four free passes were a season high for Rodon, but he still tossed 68 of 100 pitches for strikes in his fifth quality start of the year. The southpaw will take a 3.43 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 62:17 K:BB through 44.2 innings into his next outing.
May 15, 2022
Hammered by Cards
Rodon (4-2) was handed the loss during Sunday's 15-6 defeat at the hands of the Cardinals, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon struggled from the start, surrendering four runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth before being pulled in what was easily his worst outing. The eight runs surrendered exceed the seven the 29-year-old had given up through his first six starts, nearly doubling his ERA from 1.80 to 3.49 in the process. Also of concern is the three strikeouts Rodon has tallied in two of his last three outings, though a 12-strikeout performance is sandwiched between. He'll look to get back on track against San Diego next weekend.
May 10, 2022
Mows down 12 batters in win
Rodon (4-1) earned the win over Colorado on Monday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 12 over six innings.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander had Colorado batters on their toes throughout the contest, racking up 23 swinging strikes and tying a season high with 12 punchouts. He gave up a pair of runs in the fifth inning but didn't allow any extra-base hits and kept the Rockies off the scoreboard in each of his other five frames. Rodon's ERA actually increased to 1.80 despite the quality start, and he pushed his record to 4-1 on the campaign. He has been everything the Giants hoped he would be when acquiring him in the offseason, as he leads MLB with 53 strikeouts while stepping into the ace role on the staff. He'll look to keep rolling in a projected start in St. Louis this weekend.
May 4, 2022
Suffers first loss
Rodon (3-1) took the loss during Tuesday's 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon pitched well despite the loss Tuesday, surrendering both runs on a Chris Taylor single in the second inning and recording his third quality start in five turns. The two earned runs mark a season high while the five total baserunners match one as Rodon has now permitted two walks in every start as well as three hits in all but one. The biggest difference Tuesday was the decline to three strikeouts from an average of 9.5 through his first four turns. Rodon will most likely make another start this weekend against St. Louis.
Apr 27, 2022
Continues impressive April
Rodon (3-0) registered the win during Tuesday's 8-2 victory over Oakland, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with nine strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon brought his top-tier stuff for the fourth time in as many games this season and cruised to an easy victory following six strong innings. The first-year-Giant has now struck out at least eight batters while allowing no more than one run in all four starts this season and ranks among the league leaders in most major pitching categories, with his 38 strikeouts leading second-place Corbin Burnes by five. Rodon will look to carry over his exceptional April performance on Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Apr 24, 2022
Starting Tuesday
Rodon is starting Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon initially lined up to start Monday's road matchup in Milwaukee, but he'll get an extra day of rest while Sam Long takes the mound against the Brewers. Rodon has earned wins in two of his three starts this year and has posted a 1.06 ERA and 0.82 WHIP in 17 innings.
Apr 21, 2022
Dominates again in win
Rodon (2-0) earned the win over the Mets on Wednesday, completing five scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
Rodon continued to impress in his third start for San Francisco, earning his second victory with five scoreless frames. The southpaw kept Mets hitters on their toes throughout the outing, inducing 19 swinging strikes. He has yet to allow more than three hits in an appearance and has struck out at least eight batters in each of his starts thus far. Perhaps the only disappointing development from a fantasy perspective is that the veteran hurler ran his pitch count up to 95 through five innings Wednesday, preventing him from going out for the sixth with the chance for a quality start. Rodon is building upon last season's breakout campaign with a 1.06 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB through 17 frames. His next start is expected to take place in Milwaukee on Monday.
Apr 15, 2022
Fans nine in win
Rodon (1-0) allowed one run on two hits and two walks over seven innings Friday, striking out nine and earning a win over the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Rodon tossed six shutout frames, yielding just one hit, one walk and a hit batter during that stretch. The only damage against him was a seventh-inning sacrifice fly by Owen Miller. Rodon forced nine whiffs and got 22 called strikes, throwing 90 total pitches in the outing. The 29-year-old is sporting a 21:4 K:BB and a 1.50 ERA through 12 innings. He's expected to face the Mets in New York next season.
Apr 10, 2022
Fans 12 in Giants debut
Rodon didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Marlins, giving up one run on three hits and two walks over five innings while striking out 12.
ANALYSIS
Making his Giants debut after signing a two-year deal with the club in the offseason, Rodon mowed down the Marlins over 89 pitches (61 strikes), and only run he allowed came on a single, a throwing error and a wild pitch on a third strike to Jorge Soler. Rodon faces a familiar foe from his White Sox days in his next scheduled start, a road outing Friday in Cleveland.
Mar 11, 2022
Signs two-year deal with Giants
Rodon signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Giants on Friday which includes an opt-out after the first season, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal places Rodon in one of the best possible landing spots for any pitcher, as the Giants play in a pitcher-friendly park and have earned a reputation for getting the most out of their starters in recent years. That said, Rodon doesn't seem to need much fixing, as he's coming off a season in which he rode a 34.6 percent strikeout rate to a 2.37 ERA. Health is easily his most significant question mark, as he's battled arm troubles throughout his career and was used very cautiously down the stretch last season while he managed shoulder trouble.
Nov 7, 2021
Not extended qualifying offer
Rodon didn't receive a qualifying offer from the White Sox, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon bounced back in 2021 and posted a 2.37 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 132.2 innings across 24 starts for the White Sox. In spite of his career-best season, the 28-year-old will become a free agent without any draft pick penalty attached.
Oct 13, 2021
Takes loss in Game 4
Rodon (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday in Game 4 of the ALDS.
ANALYSIS
As Russell Dorsey of The Chicago Sun-Times notes, Rodon was pitching at less than 100 percent after arm and shoulder trouble crept up over the final couple months of the regular season. You couldn't tell it early on, as Rodon was pumping fastballs in the high 90s and looked dominant through two innings, though he was eventually touched up a bit in the third before his exit. This may very well have been Rodon's last start in a White Sox uniform; he's never going to be a workhorse, but Rodon pitched brilliantly in his 132.2 innings during the regular season and will likely have several multi-year offers in free agency.
Oct 9, 2021
Could start Game 4
The White Sox are optimistic that Rodon will be able to start a potential Game 4 of the ALDS against the Astros on Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon made Chicago's ALDS roster despite dealing with a shoulder injury late in the regular season. The White Sox dropped the first two games of the series, but the southpaw will likely be in line to start Game 4 if the team wins Sunday's matchup.
Oct 7, 2021
Included on ALDS roster
Rodon was included on the White Sox's ALDS roster, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon dealt with a shoulder issue late in the regular season and wasn't guaranteed a spot on the ALDS roster, but he'll be available for the series against Houston. It wouldn't be surprising to see the southpaw claim a starting role during the postseason, especially after Dallas Keuchel was left off the roster for the best-of-five series.
Oct 3, 2021
Postseason status uncertain
Manager Tony La Russa said he doesn't know if Rodon will be on the ALDS roster, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
The lefty will throw a bullpen Tuesday, after which the team will evaluate him and his shoulder. He threw five scoreless innings Wednesday but displayed unusually low velocity, casting doubt on his ability to compete with a lineup like Houston's in the postseason. Updates on his bullpen and potential availability going forward should become clear by Thursday.
Sep 30, 2021
Passes test
Rodon (13-5) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four over five scoreless innings to earn the win over the Reds on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
This was Rodon's first start since Sept. 20, when he threw just three innings and 69 pitches before departing with shoulder discomfort. Wednesday's outing was viewed as a test for his postseason readiness, and the left-hander passed it easily, winning his career-high 13th game and fifth consecutive decision. Perhaps the one concern entering the postseason is that Rodon has not pitched more than five innings over his last eight outings. Which might not be a big deal, given how pitching staffs are managed in the playoffs versus the regular season.
Sep 27, 2021
Cleared for Wednesday start
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Rodon (arm) will start Wednesday's game against the Reds in Chicago after the southpaw completed a bullpen session Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
La Russa was hopeful that a week and a half away from game action would provide sufficient time for Rodon to overcome his bout with left arm soreness, but the skipper noted that the All-Star's side session was merely "OK." Rodon still proved healthy enough in the workout to gain clearance for his final start of the regular season, but it wouldn't be surprising if he had a short leash Wednesday as the White Sox aim to keep him fresh for the playoffs. With that in mind, Rodon isn't necessarily the must-start option this week that his stellar 2.47 ERA over 23 outings this season would normally make him.
Sep 21, 2021
Next start pushed back
Rodon (arm) is expected to start next Wednesday against the Reds, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon is having an excellent season, striking out 35.1 percent of opposing batters en route to a 2.47 ERA and 0.97 WHIP across 23 starts. He's being handled very cautiously down the stretch as the White Sox try to keep him healthy for the playoffs, getting eight and nine days of rest prior to his previous two starts. He exited his start Monday against the Tigers after just three innings due to soreness, and it looks as though the White Sox will give him a similar length of time off before his next trip to the mound. That means he'll make at most one more start before the end of the regular season.
Sep 20, 2021
Reports soreness vs. Tigers
Rodon experienced soreness during Monday's start against Detroit, and the team is uncertain as to when he'll make his next start, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. He didn't factor into the decision after allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks while striking out six over three innings.
ANALYSIS
The White Sox have been cautious with their southpaw down the stretch of the regular season, but Rodon still hasn't felt quite right out on the bump of late. Skipper Tony La Russa stated Rodon will need to be examined and reassessed following Monday's outing, per Fegan, which will likely take place over the next few days. The outcome of this assessment will determine the date of his next start. Interestingly enough, Rodon described his own soreness after the contest as "normal soreness" and "nothing crazy," per Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago.
Sep 16, 2021
To start against Tigers
Rodon will next take the mound sometime during the White Sox's upcoming series against the Tigers, which runs from Monday through Wednesday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
The White Sox have been giving Rodon extra rest between his starts as they look to keep him fresh for the postseason. The decision seems to be a sensible one, as he's thrown 124.2 innings already this season after throwing a combined 42.1 over the previous two years. He'll get anywhere between nine and 11 days off between starts this time around and is only expected to make two more total starts before the end of the regular season.
Sep 12, 2021
Next start not determined
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said it's uncertain when Rodon will pitch next, Brian Sandalow of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Those were La Russa's comments prior to Friday's win over Boston, which the manager described as "very important" for many reasons. Apparently, the team would like to evaluate how Rodon feels following the start to determine his next outing. That the manager is considering a six-man rotation is a sign that he wants to build in an extra day of rest for Rodon, who is 7-2 with a 1.69 ERA with six or more days of rest. The White Sox don't have another open date until Sept. 27, and Rodon is up to 124.2 innings after throwing 42.1 combined over the last two seasons. Questions about his durability arose last month, when Rodon experienced a drop in velocity and missed time due to shoulder fatigue. The left-hander is tentatively scheduled for Friday on six days rest, and by adding Reynaldo Lopez to the rotation, Rodon could get an extra day for the remainder of the season.
Sep 11, 2021
Earns win in return
Rodon (shoulder) (12-5) allowed one run on three hits over five innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Rodon made his first appearance since Sep. 1 after nursing a slight shoulder injury. He threw 62-of-86 pitches for strikes and the only blemish on his outing was a solo homer by Bobby Dalbec in the fifth inning. Over his last four starts, the 28-year-old southpaw has given up just four runs over 20 innings (1.80 ERA) with a 26:4 K:BB. Rodon will carry a 2.38 ERA into his projected start against the Angels at home next week.
Sep 9, 2021
Expected back Friday
Justice delos Santos of MLB.com
ANALYSIS
Rodon hasn't been placed on the injured list, but he hasn't pitched since Sept. 1 while dealing with a sore shoulder. The White Sox will want to be careful with him given his injury history, and they can afford to be given that they lead their division by 11 games, but it looks as though he'll be ready to go after missing just one turn in the rotation.
Sep 7, 2021
Playing catch Tuesday
Rodon (shoulder) will play catch Tuesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday that Rodon is "penciled in" to start one of the team's weekend games against the Red Sox, but a final decision on his status hasn't been reached. The White Sox will likely get a better idea of the southpaw's availability based on how he feels after Tuesday's throwing session.
Sep 5, 2021
Next start unclear
Rodon will not start against Oakland this week due to fatigue and soreness, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Manager Tony La Russa said Rodon might be able to pitch next weekend against the Red Sox. Given Chicago's sizable division lead, they figure to exercise extreme caution with their dominant lefty, suggesting a trip to the injured list is not out of the question for Rodon.
Sep 2, 2021
Picks up win
Rodon (11-5) picked up the win Wednesday versus the Pirates, tossing five innings of one-run ball on five hits, a walk and five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was able to limit the Pirates to only one run, an RBI single in the fifth inning by Cole Tucker. The left-hander has been having his innings limited by the team as they are gearing up for the playoffs and he only threw 77 pitches in this one. On the year, he has a sparkling 2.41 ERA to go along with 11 wins. He projects to start next on the road Wednesday against Oakland.
Aug 27, 2021
Earns 10th win
Rodon (10-5) allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three across five innings to earn the win Thursday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was activated from the injured list immediately prior to his start to end a two-week absence. The team limited his pitch count, as he was pulled after 67 pitches and five innings despite Rodon having a 7-2 lead. That type of workload management could continue through the final month of the season, as Rodon pitched a combined 42.1 innings between the 2019 and 2020 campaigns. Given that he's already tossed 114.1 frames in 2021 and the White Sox are headed for the playoffs, it's logical to assume the team will prioritize Rodon's health and effectiveness in the postseason.
Aug 26, 2021
Officially activated
Rodon (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Thursday's start against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Rodon missed just over two weeks due to left shoulder fatigue, but he'll return to the mound for Thursday's series finale against Toronto. Since manager Tony La Russa was unsure of the southpaw's status in the days leading up to Thursday's matchup, the White Sox will likely monitor his workload during his first start. However, Rodon should be able to handle close to a full workload following his relatively brief absence.
Aug 25, 2021
Confirmed to start Thursday
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Rodon (shoulder) will be activated from the 10-day injured list to start Thursday's game against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Though La Russa expressed some uncertainty about Rodon's availability for the series in Toronto, the southpaw apparently alleviated any concerns about his health by completing a bullpen session earlier this week without issue. Chicago could look to monitor Rodon's workload in his first start back from the IL, but since he was only on the shelf for two and a half weeks, he shouldn't need much time to get fully ramped up. Rodon's impending return will likely result in Reynaldo Lopez moving back to the bullpen.
Aug 22, 2021
Not assured of start Thursday
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Rodon (shoulder) will start Thursday "if he does a couple more things," Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
La Russa did not specify what Rodon needs to do between now and Thursday for reinstatement from the injured list. If the manager decides Rodon is not ready, then Dallas Keuchel will start against the Blue Jays. Rodon has thrown 109.2 innings in 2021 after throwing just 42.1 the previous two seasons.
Aug 16, 2021
Throws from 90 feet
Rodon (shoulder) felt good after throwing from 90 feet Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon landed on the injured list with left shoulder fatigue Wednesday, but he was able to resume throwing several days later. The southpaw underwent an MRI on Sunday that came back clean, and he isn't expected to require a lengthy absence. The White Sox are hopeful that Rodon will be able to return to the rotation during the team's upcoming series against Toronto, which begins Aug. 23.
Aug 15, 2021
Lengthy absence not expected
Manager Tony La Russa said Sunday that Rodon's medical examination came back clean and confirmed shoulder soreness, Vinnie Duber of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon is still expected to miss more than the 10-day minimum after landing on the injured list Wednesday, but according to James Fegan of The Athletic, La Russa indicated indicated the lefty could return during the upcoming four-game series in Toronto, which begins Aug. 23. Reynaldo Lopez is scheduled to start Tuesday and figures to remain in the rotation until Rodon is cleared to return.
Aug 11, 2021
Could miss more than minimum time
White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Wednesday that he's not overly optimistic Rodon (shoulder) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Aug. 18, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had been scheduled to start Thursday's "Field of Dreams" game against the Yankees in Iowa before he was moved to the IL on Wednesday after experiencing left shoulder fatigue/soreness coming out of his most recent throwing session. The southpaw will return to Chicago to undergo further evaluation, and the White Sox expect to have a better idea about the extent of his injury within the next couple of days. La Russa was careful to note that while he isn't counting on Rodon next week, he's not overly concerned about the All-Star's injury either, so fantasy managers are advised to hold Rodon until more news about his health becomes available.
Aug 11, 2021
IL bound with shoulder fatigue
The White Sox placed Rodon on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to left shoulder fatigue, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had been scheduled to start Thursday's game versus the Yankees in Iowa, but the White Sox will be forced to alter their pitching schedule after the All-Star lefty apparently didn't feel quite right coming out of his between-starts bullpen session. Since his IL move is retroactive to Aug. 8, Rodon is eligible to return Aug.18 and may only need to miss one turn through the rotation. With a 9-5 record, 2.38 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 160 strikeouts in 109.2 innings this season, Rodon has been a godsend for those that took a late-round flier on him or scooped him up off the waiver wire back in April.
Aug 8, 2021
Bounces back on extended rest
Rodon (9-5) allowed two hits and two walks while striking out 11 over five innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon entered on a two-game losing skid and failed to pitch more than four innings in each loss. He was also suffering from reduced fastball velocity, so the White Sox gave him extended rest for this start. Pitching on eight days' rest, Rodon struck out the side in the first inning, using a fastball that reached 98.5 mph. It was a stark difference from the previous two starts, when the left-hander allowed runs in the first and second innings. Rodon's next turn in the rotation is due Thursday at home against the Yankees.
Jul 30, 2021
Loses second straight
Rodon (8-5) allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four over four innings, taking the loss against Kansas City on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon suffered his second consecutive loss and experienced a drop in velocity in the early innings for a second straight start. His fastball sat at 92-93 mph the first couple of innings before picking up to 97-98 in the final two. "Started slow, similar to Milwaukee," Rodon told Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times. "I don't really like to make excuses. But, it's just part of the game. Just got to make some adjustments, feel better this next start and get it going, get going faster." Other warning signs are a season-low four strikeouts and the 104.2 innings Rodon has thrown is his most since 2018. The left-hander threw a combined 42.1 innings in 2019-20. With a day off coming next Monday, Rodon will get an extra day of rest leading up to his next start, which is expected to be Wednesday at home against the Royals.

Strikes out five in loss
Rodon (8-4) allowed four runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts through four innings, taking the loss in a 6-1 defeat to the Brewers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Saturday night was a battle for Rodon from start to finish. After allowing home runs to Kolten Wong and Tyrone Taylor in the first two innings, he took a comebacker off the inside of his right wrist and walked in a run with the bases loaded in the fourth. After needing 79 pitches to scrape through four innings, Tony La Russa had seen enough. This clunker from Rodon comes on the back of one of his best starts of the season, in which he pitched seven innings of shutout ball and struck out 10 against the Astros. While the southpaw had shown no signs of slowing down prior to Saturday night, it might be time to talk about his workload. After throwing 34.2 innings in 2019 and only 7.2 innings in 2020, Rodon is approaching the 100-inning mark already in 2021. He has thrown more than 90 pitches in 15 of his 17 starts and more than 100 in eight. Rodon's next start should provide some more insight as to how he is feeling at this point in the season.

Stymies Astros
Rodon (8-3) held the Astros to one hit and struck out 10 over seven innings Sunday to record his second straight win.
ANALYSIS
Rodon mastered the Astros' lineup, giving up a third-inning single to Abraham Toro and that was that. Two relievers combined for two perfect innings to preserve the win, Chicago's second straight after losing the first five meetings with Houston, a team they will likely need to beat come October. It was the 12th time over 16 starts that Rodon has allowed one earned run or fewer. The left-hander brings a tidy 2.14 ERA into his next start, which is likely to come Saturday on the road against Milwaukee.

Takes win into All-Star break
Rodon (7-3) allowed one run on seven hits and struck out eight over six innings to earn the win over Minnesota on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
An animated Rodon walked off the mound following the sixth inning after getting out of a jam. The Twins touched him for their lone run earlier in the inning, but the recently named All-Star punched out the final two batters. Rodon has struck out at least eight batters in nine consecutive starts. Next up for Rodon is next Tuesday's All-Star Game. The rotation post-break has not been set, but it's a good bet Rodon pitches the following weekend.

Mixed results against Twins
Rodon allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine across five innings Thursday against the Twins. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Rodon held the Twins scoreless through four innings, but fell apart in his final frame to sour his outing. He didn't allow a home run, but was still hit around for two doubles and two singles while also throwing a wild pitch. However, he balanced those struggles with nine strikeouts, his eighth consecutive start with at least eight punchouts. On the campaign, Rodon has a 2.37 ERA with 122 strikeouts across 83.2 frames.
Jun 26, 2021
Strikes out eight in loss
Rodon (6-3) took the loss versus Seattle on Friday. He allowed three runs on five hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon continues to pile up strikeouts -- he's fanned eight or more batters in each of his last seven starts. The southpaw gave up multiple runs for the first time in four starts in June and just the fourth time in 13 outings all year. He's been excellent with a 2.06 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 113:24 K:BB across 78.2 innings this year. Rodon will look to bounce back next week versus Minnesota.
Jun 18, 2021
Fans eight in no-decision
Rodon allowed one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings in Friday's loss to Houston. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Rodon cruised through four perfect innings to start the game before running into trouble in the fifth. He loaded the bases and walked in a run but managed to escape the jam before allowing any more damage. He's given up one or fewer runs in five of his last six starts, lowering his season ERA to 1.83 through 73.2 innings. Rodon is lined up to face Seattle at home next week.
Jun 14, 2021
Flirts wit no-no
Rodon (6-2) allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out nine over seven innings to pick up the win over Detroit on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had his nasty stuff and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the Tigers scuffed him for a run. The win snapped a five-start streak in which the left-hander was 0-2 with three no-decisions despite a 3.45 ERA during that stretch. Rodon will carry a tidy 1.89 ERA into his next start, expected to be Friday at Houston.
Jun 9, 2021
Goes five innings in no-decision
Rodon tossed five innings against Toronto on Tuesday, allowing one run on six hits and two walks while striking out eight. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander was far from efficient in the outing -- he needed 106 pitches (only 65 of which were strikes) to get through five frames -- but Rodon nonetheless logged his eighth start out of 10 appearances this season in which he has allowed one or zero earned runs. The only tally against him came in the second inning, when Chicago scored a run on a pair of hits and a sacrifice fly. Rodon's ERA dipped to 1.96 with the strong outing, and he has registered a superb 88:15 K:BB through 59.2 innings on the season. His next start is tentatively scheduled for Sunday at Detroit.
Jun 5, 2021
Start pushed back
Rodon will now start Tuesday's series opener against the Blue Jays, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon had been listed as the starter for Sunday's game against the Tigers, but the White Sox will choose to give him extra rest ahead of his next outing. Dylan Cease will now take the mound in Sunday's series finale.
May 31, 2021
Hammered for five runs
Rodon allowed five runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings in a win during Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader. He struck out eight and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Rodon got off to an ugly start by coughing up two straight solo homers to begin the game. He then allowed another solo homer to Cesar Hernandez in the third. It was just his second start this season where he gave up more than two runs and he still owns a strong 1.98 ERA through 54.2 innings. Rodon is projected to face Detroit at home this weekend.
May 31, 2021
Starting first half of twin bill
Rodon will start Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon will look to follow up his strong 10-strikeout performance in his last outing. Jimmy Lambert will take the ball in Game 2, making his first major-league start.
May 27, 2021
Whiffs 10 in tough loss
Rodon (5-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals after recording 10 strikeouts and gave up one run on one hit and zero walks across six innings.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old served up a solo homer during the third inning to Tommy Edman, but he only allowed two other batters to reach base (both via hit by pitch). Rodon has failed to pick up a win in each of his past two starts despite allowing only one run on three hits with a 23:0 K:BB over 12 frames.
May 21, 2021
Fans career-high 13
Rodon logged six scoreless frames while striking out 13 and giving up two hits and zero walks Friday against the Yankees. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 13 strikeouts were a career high for a Rodon, who also happens to be in the midst of a career-best year. The Yankees were 0-for-12 with nine strikeouts against Rodon's slider. His ERA is now down to 1.27 with 62 strikeouts through 42.2 innings.
May 16, 2021
Worst performance of season so far
Rodon (5-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday against the Royals after allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks while fanning five across 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was initially scheduled to start Thursday against the Twins but was pushed back after experiencing back and hamstring tightness, and there's a chance these ailments might have been the reason why he posted his worst outing of the campaign to date. However, the fact that he still owns a 1.47 ERA after giving up four runs Saturday illustrates just how dominant he's been all year long. His next scheduled start will come next week at the Yankees.
May 14, 2021
Good to go Saturday
Manager Tony La Russa confirmed Friday that Rodon (back/hamstring) will be good to go for his scheduled start Saturday against the Royals, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was initially scheduled to start Thursday against the Twins but was pushed back after experiencing back and hamstring tightness. Any injury is a worry for a player like Rodon who has battled more than his fair share of ailments, but these particular issues appear minor and aren't related to the elbow and shoulder problems which forced him to miss extended periods in recent seasons. It's possible Rodon is on a reduced pitch count Saturday, but the White Sox may need him to go as deep as possible, as a doubleheader Friday could wind up taxing the team's bullpen.
May 12, 2021
Dealing with back, hamstring issues
Rodon was pushed back from starting Thursday due to back and hamstring tightness, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old is now scheduled to start Saturday, so the back and hamstring issues don't appear to be serious concerns. Rodon doesn't appear to be in danger of missing a start, but it's worth keeping an eye on his status over the next couple days.
May 12, 2021
Start pushed back
Rodon's start has been moved from Thursday to Saturday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lance Lynn will start Thursday in Rodon's stead. The resurgent lefty was scheduled to face the Twins, but will instead take on a less threatening Royals order. Rodon struck out eight batters over six scoreless innings in his most recent start, which was also against Kansas City.
May 8, 2021
Dominant yet again
Rodon (5-0) allowed five hits over six shutout innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Rodon continued his incredible start to the 2021 campaign by sprinkling five harmless singles across six frames Friday. He's now earned a win in each of his five starts this season and hasn't allowed more than one earned run in any appearance. The 28-year-old southpaw is now sporting a 0.58 ERA and 44:9 K:BB through 31 innings this season. Rodon is projected to face the Twins at home next week.
May 3, 2021
Start pushed back
Rodon will open the series against the Royals on Friday, Jared Wyllys of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's turn in the rotation came due Wednesday against the Reds, but the White Sox opted to push him back a couple of days, so that Dallas Keuchel could pitch on normal rest. Rodon has won all four of his starts thus far while sporting a sterling 0.72 ERA and 0.64 WHIP.
Apr 29, 2021
Whiffs 12 in win
Rodon (4-0) picked up the win Thursday after holding the Tigers to one run on two hits and a walk while striking out 12 across six innings.
ANALYSIS
Coming off eight days of rest between starts, Rodon was lights out Thursday, collecting a career-high 12 strikeouts as he remained undefeated. Aside from an RBI double by Jonathan Schoop in the fourth inning, Rodon managed to limit Detroit's damage while keeping his command in check. The 28-year-old walked only one batter, a major improvement from his last outing when he issued five free passes at Cleveland. Overall, it's been a strong campaign for Rodon, who has only allowed two runs across his four starts. He'll look to keep the momentum rolling on the road Tuesday at Cincinnati.
Apr 28, 2021
Wednesday's start postponed
Rodon won't pitch Wednesday against the Tigers since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
ANALYSIS
The contest will be made up via a straight doubleheader Thursday, and according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Rodon will start Game 1 of the twin bill.
Apr 21, 2021
Picks up third victory
Rodon (3-0) earned the win Tuesday at Cleveland after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts and five walks over five innings.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old followed up his no-hitter with another strong performance Tuesday, though the walks led to an elevated pitch count and prevented him from pitching deeper into the contest. The runs were the first Rodon has surrendered this season, and he now has a 0.47 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB through three starts (19 innings). He lines up to face the Tigers at home next Tuesday.
Apr 15, 2021
Masterful in near-perfect no-hitter
Rodon (2-0) no-hit Cleveland on Wednesday, allowing only a hit batsman while striking out seven.
ANALYSIS
Rodon wasn't even originally scheduled to start Wednesday -- he had his Monday start pushed back due to a stomach illness. The delay certainly proved to work in the left-hander's favor as he hurled his first career no-hitter and the 20th in franchise history. Rodon came achingly close to a perfect game, but he plunked Roberto Perez on the back foot on an 0-2 pitch with one out in the ninth. The mistake didn't throw Rodon off his mission, however, as he subsequently struck out Yu Chang before inducing a Jordan Luplow groundout to secure the historic feat. Rodon has now started the campaign with 14 scoreless innings and has allowed only two hits while posting a 16:3 K:BB. His next start will be at Boston on Monday.
Apr 13, 2021
Starting Wednesday
Rodon (upset stomach) will start Wednesday against Cleveland, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming there are no setbacks in Rodon's recovery from an upset stomach that led to his scheduled start Monday being pushed back, he will face Cleveland with a couple extra days of rest. Lance Lynn will follow him Thursday.
Apr 12, 2021
Scratched with upset stomach
Rodon was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against Cleveland due to an upset stomach, LaMond Pope of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon looked quite good in his first outing of the year, striking out nine in five scoreless innings against the Mariners. He'll have to wait at least a few more days to follow that up. The White Sox have yet to announce when he'll next take the mound. Dallas Keuchel starts in his place Monday.
Apr 6, 2021
Spring carries into regular season
Rodon (1-0) picked up the win Monday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out nine over five scoreless innings against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Rodon followed up an encouraging spring, during which he won the No. 5 starter job over Reynaldo Lopez, with a dominant start to the regular season. It was his first win since April 19, 2019 for Rodon, who has battled back from elbow and shoulder surgeries. The left-hander pitched out of a couple of jams, including the fourth inning when he walked the bases loaded then struck out the side. Rodon recorded 19 swings-and-misses and topped out at 98.4 MPH. He's scheduled to make his next start Sunday at home against Kansas City.
Mar 27, 2021
Finishes strong spring
Rodon allowed two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six over 4.2 innings in Friday's spring game against Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Rodon allowed a first-inning solo home run, the first run allowed during Cactus League play, then charged with another after he left the game. He finishes up the spring with two runs allowed on nine hits and one walk while striking out 16 over 13.2 innings. The left-hander will serve as Chicago's fifth starter.
Mar 23, 2021
Claims rotation spot
Rodon will open the season as the White Sox's fifth starter after the team sent Reynaldo Lopez to the alternate camp Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
This should be no surprise to those who have looked at the spring numbers. Rodon outpitched Lopez, who had a 9.00 ERA and 1.82 WHIP over four outings and 11 innings. Rodon has not walked a batter over nine scoreless innings.
Mar 22, 2021
Continues scoreless spring
Rodon allowed one hit and struck out five over four scoreless innings in Sunday's spring game against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Rodon continued his bid for a spot in the rotation and has thrown nine scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts and zero walks. The left-hander threw 49 pitches, more than half of which were is four-seam fastball along with his slider and changeup. He told Scott Merkin of MLB.com that commanding his fastball makes his entire arsenal better. The White Sox kick off the season with eight straight games, so they will need a fifth starter immediately. Rodon has two more spring starts to push his pitch count and be ready for the first turn of the rotation in the regular season.
Mar 17, 2021
Shines in second outing
Rodon allowed one hit and struck out four over three scoreless innings in Tuesday's spring start against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Rodon, who has worked fewer than 70 innings in three of the last four seasons due to injury, is making a bid for a back-end rotation spot. The left-hander has thrown five scoreless innings in Cactus League play without a walk. He made adjustments to his core with the help of pitching coach Ethan Katz and feels it made it easier to command his four-seamer with additional spin, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Rodon's main competition for the final rotation slot is Reynaldo Lopez, who followed him Tuesday and allowed two runs, four hits and one walk over three innings.
Mar 12, 2021
Makes first spring appearance
Rodon allowed two hits and struck out one over two scoreless innings in Thursday's spring game against the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Rodon made his Cactus League debut as a reliever for starter Rodrigo Lopez. The two are competing for the final spot in the rotation, and Thursday's outcomes favored Rodon. Lopez was hit hard during his three innings, and he believes he may have been tipping his pitches, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. Whichever pitcher doesn't make the rotation is expected to be part of the bullpen.
Mar 7, 2021
Throws live BP
Rodon threw three innings of live batting practice Saturday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon, who was re-signed by the White Sox after the left-hander battled elbow and shoulder injuries the last two seasons, is projected to be Chicago's fifth starter but has not yet appear in Cactus League competition. Saturday's batting-practice session came on the same day that Reynaldo Lopez, who is being stretched out and has starting experience, pitched two perfect innings as a starter in a game against the Indians. If Rodon falters this spring or during the regular season, Lopez is on hand to take on a spot in the rotation.
Feb 26, 2021
Path to starts clears up
Rodon has a clearer path to the fifth starter job than expected, with the White Sox announcing Friday that Michael Kopech would open the year in the bullpen, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kopech was the obvious choice for the role on talent alone, but he's missed two full seasons due to Tommy John surgery and an opt out. The White Sox will manage his innings to start the year, opening the role up to someone else. Rodon hasn't been officially named the winner of the job, but he's the obvious candidate when the alternatives are players like Reynaldo Lopez and Jonathan Stiever. The lefty recorded a 4.01 ERA over his first four big-league seasons but has to prove his health and effectiveness this spring to earn the job, as he's struggled to a 5.74 ERA in 42.1 innings over the last two campaigns while missing most of both years due to Tommy John surgery.
Feb 22, 2021
Delivery overhauled
White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz is working with Rodon to overhaul the pitcher's lower half, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Katz believes Rodon's quad-oriented delivery led to the left-hander throwing across his body, which the coach believes does not promote good arm health. "He's starting to understand how his lower half is supposed to move more efficiently. And it's just going to take time. When you've done something for a long time, it's hard to get out of that, but over time, we hope we can tap into things that he hasn't been able to do," said Katz. Rodon battled shoulder issues last season, making two starts and two relief appearances. His command was not consistent, and he allowed seven earned runs in 7.2 innings, but his fastball averaged mid-90s and touched 98 MPH. If he adjusts to the new mechanics, Rodon, who still owns a nasty slider, could emerge as the team's fifth starter in 2021.
Jan 30, 2021
Back with White Sox
Rodon signed a contract with the White Sox on Saturday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The exact terms of the deal aren't yet known, but Rodon will return to the White Sox after being non-tendered by the team in early December. The southpaw has battled injuries over the past two seasons and only made 11 appearances (nine starts) as a result. During that time, Rodon posted a 5.74 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 42.1 innings. He should compete for a back-end rotation spot once again heading into 2021.
Dec 2, 2020
Non-tendered by White Sox
Rodon was non-tendered by the White Sox on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old is entering his final year in arbitration, and Chicago elected not to tender him a contract for 2021. Rodon made only 11 appearances over the past two seasons due to injuries and had a 5.74 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 42.1 innings.
Sep 24, 2020
Activated Thursday
Rodon (shoulder) was reinstated from the 45-day injured list prior to Thursday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
He last pitched Aug. 3 -- one of only two appearances for the southpaw this season. It's encouraging that Rodon's shoulder is healthy enough for him to be activated, but it is unclear exactly what his role will be down the stretch and into the postseason. He could get a brief audition as a long reliever over the final four games, and could make the postseason roster in that capacity.
Sep 13, 2020
Transferred to 45-day IL
Rodon (shoulder) was transferred to the 45-day injured list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
This doesn't officially end his season, as he last pitched Aug. 3. He is scheduled to throw off a mound Monday. That said, Rodon's health has been an issue for a long time and he hasn't had much success when he has pitched in games in recent years. Prospect Jonathan Stiever enters the rotation Sunday.
Sep 11, 2020
Returning to mound Monday
Rodon (shoulder) is scheduled to throw off a mound Monday, Scot Gregor of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was scheduled to throw a 60-pitch bullpen session last week, but those plans were scrapped after he began experiencing shoulder discomfort. Rodon may not have enough time to get stretched out to a starter's workload by the end of the season, but the White Sox could shift him to the bullpen to expedite his return.
Sep 5, 2020
Experiencing discomfort
Rodon (shoulder) was experiencing discomfort Friday and didn't throw his scheduled 60-pitch bullpen, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has been ramping up his workload and appeared to be near a return, but his timetable became murkier following his recent setback. The team will monitor his status in the coming days to determine when he could return to the mound.
Sep 1, 2020
Throws bullpen Sunday
Rodon (shoulder) threw a 60-pitch, three-inning bullpen session Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That the White Sox didn't make any major moves at the trade deadline can be interpreted that they are confident Rodon return soon. The left-hander was pulled after his second start this season with shoulder soreness.
Aug 29, 2020
Set to throw Sunday
Rodon (shoulder) is scheduled to throw either three innings or 60 pitches Sunday in a simulated game, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon has been on the injured list since Aug. 4 with right shoulder soreness and has been ramping up his throwing regimen over the last few weeks. Assuming all goes well in his outing Sunday, Rodon could be close to being activated and rejoining the starting rotation sometime next week.
Aug 18, 2020
Throws Sunday
Rodon (shoulder) threw on the sideline Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Rodon's return to the roster could drift into September. Of the two Chicago starters currently on the injured list, Rodon is behind Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder), who is looking at a return by the end of August.
Aug 12, 2020
Not ready for mound work
Manager Rick Renteria said Wednesday that Rodon (shoulder) remains limited to playing catch off flat ground, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering that Rodon has yet to resume mound work more than a week into his recovery from the left shoulder soreness he experienced in his Aug. 3 start against the Brewers, he likely won't be ready to return from the 10-day injured list until late August at the earliest. The White Sox's schedule has allowed the team to get by with a four-man rotation since Rodon was shut down, but Chicago will require a replacement for the southpaw Aug. 18 against the Tigers.
Aug 9, 2020
Playing catch
Rodon (shoulder) played catch Saturday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander was placed on the 10-day injured list with shoulder soreness Tuesday, but his quick return to throwing is a good sign for his recovery. Rodon remains without a timetable for his return, though he could rejoin the White Sox within a few weeks.
Aug 5, 2020
Initial tests clean
Preliminary scans on Rodon's shoulder came back clean, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon landed on the injured list earlier in the week after experiencing shoulder soreness during his second start of the season. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like the right-hander is dealing with anything more than soreness; according to general manager Rick Hahn, Rodon could be back with the team in a matter of a few weeks. The White Sox have not yet announced who will replace Rodon in the rotation for the time being.
Aug 4, 2020
Placed on injured list
Rodon landed on the the 10-day injured list with shoulder soreness Tuesday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was making just his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery when he was removed due to shoulder soreness Monday as his velocity dropped dramatically. It's not yet clear when he's expected to return. Brady Lail was recalled in a corresponding move, though he's been exclusively a reliever over the last two seasons, so it could be Ross Detwiler who enters the rotation in his absence.
Aug 4, 2020
Re-evaluation on tap
Rodon (shoulder) will be re-evaluated Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon's velocity dropped below 90 mph in the second inning of his start against the Brewers on Monday, but he managed to surrender only one run in two innings. Van Schouwen mentions Ross Detwiler as a potential replacement for Rodon if he ends up hitting the injured list. Rodon's initial diagnosis was left shoulder soreness.
Aug 3, 2020
Exits with shoulder soreness
Rodon left Monday's start against the Brewers with left shoulder soreness and will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
His fastball velocity fluctuated from the low-90s in the first inning to the mid-80s on his final pitches in the second inning. Despite the troubling downturn in velocity, Rodon only allowed one run on three hits and zero walks while striking out one across two frames. Given his prior history of arm injuries, Rodon should be considered doubtful for his next start.
Aug 3, 2020
Pulled after 26 pitches
Rodon was pulled from Monday's start against the Brewers after giving up one run on three hits and zero walks while striking out one in two innings. His fastball velocity was dipping into the 80s in the second inning after sitting in the low-to-mid-90s in his last exhibition game, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He only threw 26 pitches (22 strikes), so if Rodon were fully healthy, he probably would have remained in the game. His velocity in the final inning suggests he is not 100 percent, but there has not been any report from the team regarding an injury.
Jul 28, 2020
Surrenders five earned runs
Rodon (0-1) allowed five earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four across 3.2 innings to take the loss in the White Sox second game against the Indians on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Rodon was hit hard out of the gates, surrendering doubles to Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez, prior to being taken yard by Carlos Santana in the first inning. He settled in for the middle portion of his start, but appeared to lose energy in the fourth inning, walking the bases loaded prior to being pulled. While it wasn't a strong performance in the box score, Rodon's velocity ticked up as he went deeper into his start, and he also generated 10 swinging strikes on 71 total pitches. He'll look to improve on this performance during his next turn through the rotation, though he's penciled in for a tough matchup at Milwaukee on Monday.
Jul 23, 2020
Penciled in for fifth game
Rodon (elbow) is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Indians, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon, who underwent Tommy John surgery 14 months ago, will be ready to take his first turn through the rotation. His presence in the rotation will push Gio Gonzalez to the bullpen. Across seven starts before getting injured last season, Rodon posted a 5.19 ERA and 46:17 K:BB in 34.2 innings.
Jul 17, 2020
Shakes off three HRs
Rodon (elbow) allowed three home runs and struck out four over 3.2 innings during Thursday's intrasquad game, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
This was Rodon's second outing since having Tommy John surgery 14 months ago. Despite the home runs -- two by Edwin Encarnacion and one by Tim Anderson -- the left-hander was pleased with his slider. "Slider was sharp, fastball was decent, close to almost all the way," Rodon said. "A couple of missed pitches, things we can get better at, and good thing these don't count." It's unclear where Rodon stands when the season opens. He's almost certain to be part of the rotation at some point during the season, but that may not happen immediately.
Jul 12, 2020
Throws 45 pitches
Rodon (elbow) started Saturday's intrasquad game and threw 45 pitches, Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The action marked the first time Rodon has thrown off the mound at Guaranteed Rate Field since May 2019. "As far as stuff, the ball feels like it was coming out good," Rodon told Scott Merkin of MLB.com. "Today it (velocity) was a little down, and the last BP it was coming out really well. Hopefully, this next go around next five days I get that recovery I need, and I step on the mound and it's back." Rodon added a needs to get up and down a few more times and try to hit the 90-pitch mark before the start of the season. The left-hander may not be part of the rotation to start the season, but he could pitch multiple innings as a reliever (or opener).

Says he's close to 100 percent
Rodon (elbow) threw three innings and 45 pitches during a live batting practice session Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon, who underwent Tommy John surgery last May, described himself as close to 100 percent following the session. He threw all of his pitches, including a fastball he termed "electric." The left-hander should be ready to hurl for the White Sox during the 2020 season, but he may not have a spot in the rotation right away. The White Sox currently have five healthy starters, so Rodon may have to bounce between the rotation and bullpen.

Could be ready late July
Rodon (elbow) is expected to be able to pitch at some point near the start of the regular season or shortly thereafter, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The White Sox have five set starters ready to throw when MLB's season resumes around July 23 or 24, but they will get an added boost with Rodon and Michael Kopech both coming off Tommy John elbow surgery. Rodon had talked about being ready to pitch by June, so it's likely he'll be contributing at some point. With starters not expected to pitch deep into games initially, both Rodon and Kopech could be used as openers or in piggy-back situations.

Aiming for June return
Rodon (elbow) said he feels good enough that he could be pitching by June, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon went as far as saying a June return "is realistic," but the left-hander admits getting the White Sox management and medical staff to give him permission would be a sticking point. Original estimates pegged a July return for Rodon, who is in the final stages of rehab from Tommy John surgery. The pandemic-induced shut down of baseball has slowed Rodon's throwing routine, so a return before July may be overly optimistic.

Could return by July
Rodon (elbow) could return to active duty by July, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper talked about what looks like a strong starting rotation to open the season, then anticipated the additions of Rodon and Michael Kopech. He expects both pitchers to join the rotation at some point in 2020. Rodon played catch while training camps were open, and Cooper said the left-hander looked better than expected. The left-hander underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2019, so a return during the second half of the season is likely, unless there's a setback.

Making good progress
Rodon (elbow) has exceeded expectations in his rehab process according to pitching coach Don Cooper, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rodon underwent Tommy John surgery back in May, which is expected to keep him out until some point in the second half this season. It's unclear if Cooper's comments indicate that he's on a faster timeline than expected or if he's simply throwing quite well for where he currently is in the process. He threw a side session Monday.
