Not on Wild Card Series roster
Mitchell is not on the roster for the Brewers' Wild Card Series matchup against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell returned for the final four games of the regular season following a nearly five-month recovery from shoulder surgery, but he went 1-for-7 with three walks and two strikeouts and will not be part of the outfield mix for Milwaukee's best-of-three series versus Arizona. There's no word of any setback and Mitchell could be reconsidered for a roster spot if the Brewers are able to advance to the NLDS.
Sep 30, 2023
Sitting against lefty
Mitchell isn't in the Brewers' lineup Saturday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Mitchell will take a seat to begin Saturday's game as southpaw Jordan Wicks starts on the bump for the Cubs. Blake Perkins will start in center field instead while batting ninth.
Sep 28, 2023
Activated from 60-day IL
The Brewers activated Mitchell (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list ahead of Thursday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell finished off an eight-game minor-league rehab assignment Sunday and further proved his health during a couple of simulated games this week in Milwaukee. Sidelined since April 18 due to a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery, the 25-year-old center fielder can offer a boost to the Brewers offensively and defensively as they play out the final four games of the regular season and head into the playoffs. Mitchell has slashed .286/.341/.462 in 130 career major-league plate appearances dating back to his debut in August of 2022.
Sep 26, 2023
Aiming for postseason return
Mitchell (shoulder) said Tuesday that he is optimistic about being included on the Brewers' postseason roster, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There was talk of Mitchell being activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Cardinals, but the target has now apparently shifted to Oct. 3 -- which would be Game 1 of the Wild Card Series -- because Milwaukee doesn't want to make a roster move. The 25-year-old outfielder has been taking simulated at-bats as he nears the end of his recovery from May 2 surgery to repair a subluxation and labrum damage in his left shoulder.
Sep 25, 2023
Expected to return Tuesday
Mitchell (shoulder) is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell required surgery back in early May to repair a subluxation and labrum damage in his left shoulder. While the Brewers have not yet confirmed he will return Tuesday, McCalvy notes that all signs point to it happening. Mitchell batted only .188/.257/.250 with three steals in eight rehab games with Triple-A Nashville, although he did collect four hits in his final 10 at-bats. With Sal Frelick taking over in center field and Tyrone Taylor swinging a hot bat in right, Mitchell could find playing time hard to come by down the stretch following a long layoff.
Sep 15, 2023
Cleared for rehab assignment
Mitchell (shoulder) was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There was fear that Mitchell had been lost for the season when he injured his shoulder sliding into third base April 18, but his chances of returning to Milwaukee before the end of the season are seemingly brighter than ever. Mitchell will likely remain in Nashville for the remainder of the Triple-A season, but he could join the Brewers for the final week of the year and a potential postseason run. The speedy outfielder holds a .286/.341/.462 slash line across 130 plate appearances in his career.
Sep 12, 2023
Closing in on rehab assignment
Mitchell (shoulder) is set to meet with a doctor Thursday or Friday and could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville as soon as this weekend, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell opened the season as the Brewers' everyday center fielder and was off to a solid start with a .259 average, three home runs and one stolen base in 16 games before suffering a left shoulder subluxation and associated labrum damage that required surgery May 2. Though the Brewers had some fear that the procedure would sideline Mitchell for the rest of the season, he's healed up well over the last few months and appears to be on the cusp of returning to game action. Hogg notes that Mitchell is expected to remain on assignment at Triple-A until Nashville's season ends Sept. 24, so any potential return from the 60-day injured list likely wouldn't come until the final week of the Brewers' regular season.
Sep 4, 2023
Doctor consultation on tap
Mitchell (shoulder) will have a doctor consultation at the end of the week to determine when he can get back in games, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Hogg notes things are trending positively for Mitchell. Back on Aug. 22, Mitchell told Adam McCalvy of MLB.com that he hoped to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville around Sept. 19. It seems like things are right on track, and Mitchell still has a chance to join the big club before the end of the season.
Aug 22, 2023
Making progress with shoulder
Mitchell (shoulder) said Tuesday that he's hoping to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville around Sept. 19, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That would be the final week of the Triple-A regular season, and it could put Mitchell in line to return to the Brewers for the final week of the MLB regular season. The 24-year-old outfielder required surgery back in early May to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, but he's been performing most baseball activities without issue over the last couple of weeks.
May 4, 2023
Undergoes shoulder surgery
Mitchell underwent scheduled surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his left shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell is likely done for the remainder of the 2023 season, though Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Thursday that there is a sliver of hope he could return very late in the year. Mitchell injured his shoulder April 18 on a slide into third base. Joey Wiemer has been drawing the majority of starts in center field for Milwaukee in recent weeks.
Apr 30, 2023
Transferred to 60-day IL
The Brewers transferred Mitchell (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Sunday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a procedural move that clears up a spot on the 40-man roster for the Brewers that was needed after the team traded for Trevor Megill. Mitchell underwent surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday, and it's very possible that the speedy outfielder will miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign.
Apr 25, 2023
Will undergo surgery
Mitchell will have surgery on his left shoulder after receiving a second opinion Tuesday, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.
ANALYSIS
After suffering significant damage to his labrum while sliding into third base last week against Seattle, Mitchell will now officially undergo surgery. The speedy center fielder will likely be held out of action until the final weeks of the season, if not the rest of it. Since Mitchell's injury, Joey Wiemer has received the majority of reps in center field for Milwaukee, but that could change once Tyrone Taylor (elbow) and Sal Frelick (thumb) recover from their respective injuries.
Apr 21, 2023
Could need shoulder surgery
Mitchell could be facing season-ending surgery on his left shoulder, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell was placed on the injured list Wednesday after dislocating his shoulder in multiple places Tuesday night against the Mariners. Imaging scans have since revealed significant damage to his labrum and he will likely require a surgical repair. The 24-year-old outfielder is first seeking out a second opinion, but it seems like the writing is on the wall that his 2023 campaign is already over. Mitchell had posted a .772 OPS with three home runs and one stolen base through 16 games this year with the NL Central-leading Brewers.
Apr 19, 2023
To have MRI on injured shoulder
Mitchell will undergo an MRI on his injured left shoulder Thursday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday after suffering multiple left shoulder subluxations late in Tuesday's game against the Mariners. The imaging scans should help the Brewers get a better idea of the severity and might yield a projected timeline for the young outfielder's return. Joey Wiemer and Owen Miller are expected to be the primary options in center field while Mitchell is in recovery mode. Recent callup Blake Perkins could factor in as well.
Apr 19, 2023
Lands on IL
The Brewers placed Mitchell (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with left shoulder subluxation, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell wore a sling Wednesday morning and is indeed dealing with an IL-worthy shoulder injury. It's unclear how long the center fielder, who's slashing .259/.306/.466 with three home runs this season, will be on the shelf.
Apr 19, 2023
Wearing sling
Mitchell (shoulder) was spotted in the Brewers' clubhouse Wednesday wearing a sling on his left arm, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie outfielder had to exit Tuesday's game against the Mariners with a left shoulder subluxation. The team is expected to provide more on Mitchell's status later Wednesday, but the fact that he's wearing a sling certainly wouldn't appear to be a good sign.
Apr 19, 2023
Leaves with shoulder subluxation
Mitchell left in the 10th inning against the Mariners with a shoulder subluxation, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell left the contest after making a throw home in the bottom of the 10th that couldn't get Ty France at the plate. The outfielder appeared to pick up the injury after he banged into third base on a slide in the top of the frame. Mitchell is day-to-day and currently receiving treatment, but all but assuredly will be out Wednesday for the series finale against Seattle.
Apr 19, 2023
Leaves with potential injury
Mitchell has left Tuesday's game against the Mariners in the bottom of the 10th with a potential injury, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell made hard contact into third base in the top of the inning, and then left the game after making a throw home in the bottom of the 10th. Mike Brousseau has replaced Mitchell and taken over at third base with Brian Anderson moving to right field and Joey Wiemer now in center.
Apr 17, 2023
Scores lone run Sunday
Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell scored the Brewers only run of the afternoon and it proved to be enough after Wade Miley fired seven shutout frames and the bullpen took care of the rest. The 24-year-old reached base in the second inning on a bunt single. A Yu Darvish balk got him over to second base and then he stole third before being driven home on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Brian Anderson. It was Mitchell's first stolen base of the year, and plenty more should be expected after he had eight in just 28 games last season.
Apr 14, 2023
Out of lineup Friday
Mitchell is not in the lineup Friday against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in Thursday's series opener at San Diego, but he still holds a shiny .884 OPS through 46 total plate appearances on the year. This looks to be a routine day off. Joey Wiemer is starting in center field and batting ninth.
Apr 5, 2023
Walks it off against Mets
Mitchell went 1-for-2 with a walkoff solo home run in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
He wasn't in the starting lineup, but Mitchell came on as a pinch hitter for Mike Brosseau in the sixth inning and remained in the game, giving him a chance to play hero in the ninth. Mitchell is enjoying a great start to the season, batting .300 (6-for-20) through six games with three homers, five RBI and six runs, but as yet the 24-year-old speedster hasn't stolen a base after going 8-for-8 on the basepaths last year in only 28 big-league games.
Apr 5, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Mitchell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
With southpaw David Peterson on the bump for New York, the lefty-hitting Mitchell will take a seat for the series finale. The righty-hitting Joey Wiemer will step in in center field in place of Mitchell, who went 3-for-8 with a pair of solo home runs, a walk and two additional runs between the first two games of the series.
Apr 4, 2023
Launches two homers
Mitchell went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs during Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Mets.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old followed Rowdy Tellez's and Brian Anderson's homers during the sixth inning with one of his own, and Mitchell and Anderson teamed up again for back-to-back shots in the seventh. Mitchell isn't a major power threat and hit just seven long balls across 92 games between Double-A, Triple-A and the majors last season, but he can still provide enough pop to reach double-digit homers, assuming he's able to retain a regular spot in the lineup all season.
Apr 1, 2023
Out of lineup
Mitchell will not start Saturday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell hit seventh and played center field on Opening Day but went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Joey Wiemer will make his MLB debut in center field Saturday.
Mar 20, 2023
Returns to lineup Monday
Mitchell (hamstring) is back in the Brewers' lineup for Monday's Cactus League contest versus the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell wound up missing a week-and-a-half of action with right hamstring tightness. He's in center field and batting leadoff Monday against Logan Gilbert. Mitchell's offense is a work-in-progress, but he should be an asset in the stolen base department for fantasy managers in 2023 as long as he's playing regularly, which appears to be the plan.
Mar 15, 2023
Target return pushed back
Brewers manager Craig Counsell said the team will "go slow" in working Mitchell back from his right hamstring injury, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell was originally scheduled to return to game-action sometime this weekend, but now the team is reportedly aiming for the speedy center fielder to return around March 21. Despite the delay, Mitchell still figures to be perfectly healthy and ready to go by Opening Day.
Mar 13, 2023
Resumes running Monday
Mitchell (hamstring) has resumed running but is not expected to return to Cactus League games until this weekend, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.
ANALYSIS
The Brewers aren't overly concerned about the right hamstring tightness which forced Mitchell from a game last Thursday. However, he'll receive at least a week off just to be safe. If healthy, Mitchell looks to be the clear favorite to open the season as the Brewers' starting center fielder.
Mar 11, 2023
Doing well
Mitchell (hamstring) is doing well and should return to the lineup in about a week, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell left Thursday's game against the Giants due to right hamstring tightness, and while the injury will cost him some exhibition games, it looks like his readiness for Opening Day won't be affected. Mitchell hit .311 with eight steals and a pair of homers in 68 plate appearances as a rookie last year and appears set to open the year as Milwaukee's primary center fielder.
Mar 10, 2023
No plans to undergo MRI
Mitchell (hamstring) is not expected to require an MRI, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell had to be lifted from Thursday's game versus the Giants because of right hamstring tightness, but all indications seem to be that the Brewers were being overly cautious. There still has to be some level of concern especially since Mitchell's legs are so important to his fantasy value, but for now he's considered day-to-day.
Mar 9, 2023
Exits game early
Mitchell was removed from the Brewers' spring training game against the Giants on Thursday due to right hamstring tightness, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The team said taking Mitchell out of the game was mostly a precautionary move, so Mitchell's hamstring likely won't impact his availability for Opening Day. The speedy outfielder has had an impressive spring thus far, slashing .353/.353/.941 with three home runs and nine RBI through 17 plate appearances.
Oct 4, 2022
Shows off power and speed
Mitchell went 2-for-4 a solo home run and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell got the start in center field Tuesday and capitalized by showing off both his power and his speed with a homer and a stolen base. The home run, a solo shot to right field to lead off the second inning, was his second of the season, and got the Brewers on the board. He also led off the sixth inning, where he hit a single and swiped second base, his seventh of the season. In 64 plate appearances this season, the rookie has earned a strong .310/.365/.466 slash line,

Not starting Saturday

ANALYSIS

Sep 20, 2022
Heads to bench Tuesday
Mitchell isn't in the lineup Tuesday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell will get the day off Tuesday after striking out in all three of his at bats Monday against New York. In his place, Tyrone Taylor will start in center field and bat ninth in the order.
Sep 19, 2022
Recaptures playing time
Mitchell will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
After looking to have lost out on the primary role in center field by the middle of last week, Mitchell since seems to have recaptured the gig from Tyrone Taylor, who is on the bench for the third time in four games. MItchell made two starts during the Brewers' weekend series with the Yankees, going 3-for-6 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.
Sep 14, 2022

Sep 13, 2022
Rests against lefty
Mitchell isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell hasn't had quite the immediate impact in center field for Milwaukee some were projecting after he was called up in late August as he currently holds just a .518 OPS. He will be held out Tuesday against fellow lefty Jordan Montgomery, allowing Tyrone Taylor to start in center field, batting ninth.
Sep 10, 2022
Resting Saturday
Mitchell isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Reds.

Mitchell is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Giants.
ANALYSIS

Mitchell is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell had started in five of his first seven big-league games since getting called up from Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 27, but after going 2-for-15 with a 2:7 BB:K over that stretch, he'll be on the bench for the second straight contest to close out the weekend. Meanwhile, Tyrone Taylor, who carried the Brewers to an 8-6 win on Saturday with three extra-base hits and a stolen base, will be rewarded for his big game with another start in center field at Mitchell's expense.

Aug 29, 2022
Homers, steals base
Mitchell went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 7-5 win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Making his second career MLB start, Mitchell drilled his first home run and swiped his first bag. He took Wil Crowe 414 feet in the eighth inning to tie the game after drawing a walk and stealing second base in the third frame. The rookie outfielder has started his career 2-for-7 with four RBI.
Aug 29, 2022
Starting again after two-RBI debut
Mitchell will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Manager Craig Counsell is rewarding Mitchell with a second consecutive start after the 23-year-old rookie came through with a clutch two-run single in his MLB debut during Sunday's 9-7 win over the Cubs. Tyrone Taylor is on the bench for a second straight game, and given that he's mustered an underwhelming .654 OPS since the All-Star break, he could be in danger of falling into a reserve role if Mitchell keeps producing at the plate in his initial opportunities in the majors.
Aug 27, 2022
Earns first career call-up
The Brewers selected Mitchell's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Mitchell was chosen 20th overall by the Brewers in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft. He got off to a decent start to the season for Double-A Biloxi, posting a 107 wRC+ in 44 games while missing time with an oblique injury, but he's caught fire since an early August promotion to Triple-A. In 20 games at that level, he's hit .342/.435/.466 with a homer and nine steals. If he can find his way into the lineup, that speed could be a boost to fantasy teams down the stretch, but there are questions about how ready his bat is given his career 26 percent strikeout rate and modest power in the minors.
