Claimed off waivers
The Cardinals claimed Young off waivers from the Cubs on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Cubs had removed Young from their 40-man roster last week and he'll now join their rival. Young, 28, boasted a .310/.417/.577 batting line with 21 home runs over 90 games this season at Triple-A Iowa. He's slashed .210/.290/.435 across 22 contests at the major-league level and can handle the corner infield and outfield spots.

Sent outright to Triple-A
The Cubs outrighted Young to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young posted a .310/.417/.577 batting line with 21 home runs over 90 games this season at the Triple-A level, but he couldn't quite replicate those numbers in the bigs. The 28-year-old is now off the 40-man roster in Chicago.

Recalled, starting Sunday
Young was recalled from the Arizona Complex League and is starting at first base Sunday against the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was just demoted Wednesday but will quickly rejoin the big club with Nico Hoerner (knee) ending the season on the injured list. Young has played in 15 major-league games this season and has a .792 OPS with two homers, two steals and eight RBI in 43 plate appearances.

Returns to minors
Young was optioned to the Arizona Complex League on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was called up from Iowa on Sept. 19 and appeared in two games during his week in the big leagues, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBI. Young has a .792 OPS in 43 MLB plate appearances this season but was unable to keep his spot on the roster with Jeimer Candelario (back) returning from the injured list.

Homers in win Friday
Young went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Friday's win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Making his first start for the Cubs since July, Young delivered a critical home run to help the team in their pursuit of a playoff spot. The 28-year-old has only appeared in 15 contests this year and has provided two long balls along with eight RBI. Young remains off the fantasy radar, though he may see another start or two down the stretch depending on matchups, as he does offer the lineup an additional left-handed bat.

Gets start at DH
Young is starting at designated hitter and batting seventh in Friday's game versus the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
It will be Young's first start since he was recalled Tuesday, although he did have an RBI triple off the bench that day. Regular DH Christopher Morel will begin this one on the bench.
Sep 19, 2023
Recalled from Iowa
Young was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Young will give the Cubs an extra option on the infield as Nick Madrigal heads to the 10-day injured list because of a right hamstring strain. Young, 28, has slashed just .171/.256/.371 across 39 major-league plate appearances this year.
Jul 22, 2023
Optioned to minors
Young was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Young will be the player to make way as Dansby Swanson (heel) returns from the injured list. Young didn't accomplish much in 13 games since his late-June promotion, hitting .171/.256/.371.
Jul 19, 2023
Sitting again Wednesday
Young is out of the lineup again Wednesday versus the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Young is slashing just .171/.256/.371 through 39 major-league plate appearances this season and hasn't started a game for the Cubs since last Friday. The 28-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder could be on the verge of a demotion.
Jul 18, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Young is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Trey Mancini will play first base and Yan Gomes will serve as the Cubs' designated hitter versus the Nats and left-hander Patrick Corbin. Young, who also sat out of Monday's series opener, has slashed just .176/.263/.382 through 38 major-league plate appearances this year.
Jul 17, 2023
On bench versus southpaw
Young will sit Monday against the Nationals, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
With left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound Monday, Young will head to the bench. Righty bat Trey Mancini will take over at first base and bat seventh in the series opener with Washington.
Jul 15, 2023
Sits versus lefty
Young isn't in the Cubs' lineup Saturday against Boston.
ANALYSIS
With left-hander James Paxton starting on the mound Saturday for the Red Sox, the lefty-hitting Young will stay put in Chicago's dugout to begin the game. Trey Mancini will fill in at first base and bat fifth.
Jul 9, 2023
Starting Sunday
Young is starting at first base and batting seventh in Sunday's game against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Young sat out the last two games but will return to the lineup Sunday to face Domingo German. Young has been slumping, going just 1-for-17 over his last six appearances, so he could fall out of favor at first with Trey Mancini taking on a larger role. Mancini is on the bench Sunday, however.
Jul 8, 2023
Remains on bench
Young will sit for the second straight game Saturday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Young immediately stepped into the large side of a platoon with Trey Mancini at first base after getting called up in late June, but his off day here comes against a righty in Gerrit Cole. Young has gone 1-for-17 at the plate in his last six games after going 4-for-9 with three extra-base hits in his first three appearances, so he could continue to cede time to Mancini going forward.
Jul 7, 2023
Breather Friday
Young is not in the starting lineup Friday versus the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Young will take a seat as the Cubs face off with left-hander Carlos Rodon on Friday. Righty bat Trey Mancini will replace him at first base and bat sixth in the series opener with New York.
Jun 30, 2023
Another start at first base
Young is starting at first base and batting eight Friday versus the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
With Cody Bellinger back in center field, Young has now made two straight starts at first base and three straight overall. The 27-year-old has a homer and a triple in his first two contests with the big club in 2023 following a 1.030 OPS and 13 dingers at Triple-A Iowa. The left-handed hitting Young could be the preferred option at first base versus righties for the time being, with Trey Mancini playing there against lefties.
Jun 28, 2023
Hits first MLB home run
Young went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Young started at DH and was eventually lifted for a pinch hitter, but not before he connected for his first MLB home run in the third inning against Aaron Nola. Young appeared in six games for the Cubs last season and Wednesday marked his 2023 debut. The 27-year-old looks mostly like organizational depth, though Chicago could give him some extended run at first base and DH if he's able to produce.
Jun 27, 2023
Selected from Iowa
The Cubs selected Young from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Young has been outstanding in Triple-A this season, slashing .333/.431/.619 with 13 homers and 45 RBI through 205 plate appearances. He's recorded a hit in all but three of his games since the start of June and will now look to carry his momentum into the majors. With the Cubs searching for answers at first base, it's possible Young sees a good amount of playing time early on.
Nov 11, 2022
Outrighted to Triple-A
Young cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Young appeared in just six games for the Cubs at the tail-end of last season, recording five hits and three walks over 22 plate appearances. Most of his time was spent in Triple-A, where he slashed .228/.309/.415 over 455 plate appearances. Whether or not he will return to the Cubs' 40-man roster will likely depend on if he can improve on those numbers in 2023.
Sep 27, 2022
Optioned to Triple-A
Young was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After getting called up earlier this month, Young will return to the minors in order allow room for Willson Contreras and Seiya Suzuki on the active roster. Young went 5-for-19 at the plate and put up a very respectable .732 OPS during his short time in Chicago.
Sep 21, 2022
Steals first MLB base
Young went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start as the designated hitter and batting seventh in his fourth career appearance in the majors, Young swiped his first bag after stealing only three in 108 games at Triple-A Iowa this year. The 27-year-old doesn't have any kind of prospect pedigree after being a 15th-round pick in 2017, but it appears as though the rebuilding Cubs will give him consistent playing time against right-handed pitching over the final days of the season.
Sep 14, 2022
Contract selected
Young had his contract selected by the Cubs on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old will receive his first taste of the big leagues with Rafael Ortega (finger) headed to the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Young has been with Triple-A Iowa all season and has a .225/.308/.408 slash line with 16 home runs, 57 RBI and 60 runs in 450 plate appearances.
