That sounds like the Red Sox intend to call him up before the end of the Olympic games, which are scheduled to wrap Aug. 7. Duran has a .971 OPS with 15 home runs in 39 games for Triple-A Worcester.

The Red Sox have no plans to rush Duran to the majors, Chris Mason of MassLive.com reports.

Duran, who is coming off a successful tournament for Team USA, has a .991 OPS for Triple-A Worcester and was recently bumped up to No. 29 on Baseball America's Top 100 prospects list. That has fueled speculation that he could be added to the major league roster, particularly as manager Alex Cora tries to find a leadoff hitter after Enrique Hernandez was dropped in the order. "Obviously the conversations will always be there," Cora told Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. "He just had a great tournament down there in Florida. This is a guy that's going to impact this team in the future, and the future doesn't mean tomorrow or a month, maybe next year or two years." Duran is headed back to the WooSox following the tournament and will continue to work on the things he needs to, per Cora.

Duran launched his fourth home run for Triple-A Worcester in Thursday's win over Syracuse.

Duran turned on a 95-mph fastball, sending it 440 feet at an exit velocity of 112 mph. He's making early noise at Triple-A, but the Red Sox aren't going to rush the prospect and feel there are areas of improvement, per Ian Browne of MLB.com. "Catching up with fastballs is very important, catching up with fastballs up in the zone is very important. Being disciplined with breaking balls down in the zone is important," manager Alex Cora said. Duran added that he still has work to do on inner-half fastballs, but the swing he put on the inside heater Thursday is evidence he's coming around in that area.

Duran went 2-for-5 with two home runs and a third RBI for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

Duran is cooking for the WooSox after going hitless with six strikeouts in his first 11 at-bats. Over the last four games, Duran is 8-for-17 with three homers and four RBI.

The Red Sox want to see how close Duran is to the majors and will give him an extended run of at-bats for the WooSox, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. It's been a while since Duran played affiliated ball, and general manager Chaim Bloom is interested to see how the prospect tests a new swing and approach against Triple-A competition. "We want to make sure we don't try to learn too much from a really small sample, but just having him go through the ups and downs of the season and playing every day and doing it with the various ways that we have to track his performance," said Bloom. Duran is primarily a center fielder but was exposed to corner outfield in spring training and the alternate site. It doesn't take much to see the struggles of Franchy Cordero, who still has minor-league options, to find a potential landing spot for Duran later this season.

Duran was moved from second base to center field in 2018 and played the position in 2019 and 2020.
