Notches first career save
Brito gave up a solo home run and struck out three over 3.2 relief innings Friday to record his first career save in a 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
A hit-by-pitch and a ninth-inning blast by Christian Walker were the only blemishes on Brito's line. The 25-year-old right-hander has been outstanding in a long relief role down the stretch -- over five September appearances spanning 15 innings, Brito's collected three wins in addition to Friday's save with a 1.20 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB.

Continues to shine in bulk relief
Brito (8-7) earned the win over Pittsburgh on Saturday, striking out three batters over three perfect innings out of the bullpen.
ANALYSIS
Luke Weaver handled the first four frames for New York, with Brito taking over in the fifth. Brito rolled through nine batters, fanning three and throwing 32 of 47 pitches for strikes. The rookie right-hander was up-and-down in a starting role earlier this season, but he seems to have found his groove recently as a bulk reliever. Since moving into that role Aug. 24, Brito has posted a 1.06 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB over 17 innings across six appearances while picking up four wins against one loss.
Sep 13, 2023
Sharp in seventh win
Brito (7-7) picked up the win in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Red Sox, allowing three hits and a walk over 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Randy Vasquez got the start and looked good through three innings, but when he began to fade in the fourth, Brito stepped in and was even more effective, firing 29 of 38 pitches for strikes. The two rookie right-handers combined for what would have qualified as a quality start from a single pitcher -- two earned runs over six frames -- and the Yankees may consider keeping them together in a tandem arrangement to fill their fifth starter spot over the final weeks of the season. Brito is thriving in his current long-relief role, grabbing three wins in his last five appearances while posting a 1.29 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB through 14 innings.

Could move into rotation
Brito is a candidate to replace Luis Severino (side) in the Yankees rotation, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Severino was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday after leaving Friday's start early due to an injury to his left side. Brito took over for him in the fifth frame, allowing a run on three hits and a a walk while striking out three batters over 2.1 innings. Though the rookie right-hander has been coming out of the bullpen of late, 13 of his 20 big-league outings have been as a starter, and he's compiled a 4.83 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 57:26 K:BB over 76.1 innings overall. Yankees manager Aaron Boone indicated that Brito and Randy Vasquez are both in the running to take Severino's spot in the rotation moving forward.
Sep 3, 2023
Collects sixth win
Brito (6-6) picked up the win Saturday in a 5-4 victory over the Astros, scattering two hits over 3.2 scoreless relief innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
Luis Severino got the hook after four innings, and Brito's sharp relief outing allowed him to get credited with his second straight win. With Michael King still getting stretched out and Severino struggling, there's been plenty of long relief work for Brito since he rejoined the big-league staff in August, and aside from a rough appearance against the Red Sox on Aug. 18 he's been mostly successful with the assignment, allowing one run or fewer in four of his five trips to the mound and compiling a 4.32 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through 16.2 innings.
Aug 30, 2023
Nabs win in bulk relief
Brito (5-6) earned the win over the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 3.1 scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Michael King started the game for the Yankees and put up four scoreless innings. Brito followed and nearly replicated King's line with 3.1 scoreless frames of his own, benefitting from King not going deep enough to qualify for the win by nabbing it for himself. Brito has worked behind King in three of his four appearances since his latest elevation from the minors, striving by giving up just two runs and posting a 10:2 K:BB over 10.2 innings in that role. Given that the rookie right-hander struggled in his lone start during that span, yielding seven runs (six earned) over 2.1 frames against the Red Sox on Aug. 18, it wouldn't be surprising if New York opts to continue what has been an effective King-Brito 1-2 punch moving forward.
Aug 24, 2023
Set to work in bulk relief
Brito will serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Michael King in Thursday's game against the Nationals, Seth Rothman of YES Network reports.
ANALYSIS
King has maxed out at 3.2 innings over his 41 appearances this season and will be pitching on three days' rest, so he's unlikely to work deep into the start before turning the game over to Brito, who is expected to be tasked with covering multiple frames in relief. Though Brito's innings count will likely be capped more coming out of the bullpen than if he were operating as a traditional starter, he should have a better chance at factoring into the decision while he works in bulk relief.
Aug 18, 2023
Roughed up Friday
Brito (4-6) took the loss Friday, yielding seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over just 2.1 frames against the Red Sox. He struck out one.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox jumped on Brito early and often, as each of the first four batters of the game reached and scored. He labored in the second inning, as well, ultimately needing 46 pitches to cover his 2.1 innings. With Carlos Rodon (hamstring) set to return early next week and Luis Severino remaining in the rotation for now, Brito could be headed back to the minors.
Aug 17, 2023
In line to start Friday
Brito is lined up to start or work as a bulk reliever in Friday's game against the Red Sox, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Randy Vasquez and Brito both are getting second turns through the rotation after the two rejoined the big club last week to replace the injured Carlos Rodon (hamstring) and Nestor Cortes (shoulder), respectively. Brito has previously made 12 starts for the Yankees this season, but he thrived as a bulk reliever his last time out Saturday in Miami, where he struck out six and gave up one run on three hits and no walks over five innings. Rodon threw a five-inning simulated game Wednesday and looks like he could be ready to return from the IL next week, but Brito could stick in the rotation if he turns in another quality showing Friday and if the Yankees elect to move the struggling Luis Severino to the bullpen.
Aug 13, 2023
Fans six in bulk-relief role
Brito tossed five innings against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out six batters.
ANALYSIS
Michael King opened the game for New York and took the loss, but Brito handled the biggest workload with five frames and 69 pitches. The rookie was very effective in that role, holding Miami to one run while racking up six punchouts. The Yankees' rotation is in a bit of disarray right now with Domingo German (personal) out for the season, Nestor Cortes (shoulder) and Carlos Rodon (hamstring) on the injured list, and Luis Severino struggling mightily. Though Brito has an uninspiring 4.76 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 62.1 major-league innings this season, he's pitched to a 3.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB over his past 22 frames and could be in line to remain with the big club, either as a bulk reliever or a starter, following Saturday's strong outing.
Aug 12, 2023
Likely to work in bulk relief
Brito is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind starter Michael King in Saturday's game in Miami, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
King is making his first start of the season and has maxed out at 3.1 innings across 38 appearances, and since he'll be taking the hill on three days' rest, he should provide more length than the typical opener. Even so, Brito -- who was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday -- should be tasked with working multiple innings behind King and is probably the Yankees pitcher most likely to factor into any decision. The Yankees are relying on the King/Brito tandem to help fill the rotation spot of Nestor Cortes (shoulder), who went back on the 15-day injured list Friday.
Aug 11, 2023
Recalled from SWB
The Yankees recalled Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Brito looks poised to fill the rotation spot left vacant by Nestor Cortes, who has landed back on the injured list because of a rotator cuff strain. That would put Brito in line for Saturday's start at Miami.
Aug 6, 2023
Sent down Sunday
Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Sunday's loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Brito served as a reliever during Sunday's matchup and allowed no hits and two walks while striking out two in 1.2 scoreless innings. He's had shaky results this season and will attempt to right the ship in the minors.
Aug 1, 2023
Surrenders five in spot start
Brito (4-5) took the loss Monday, allowing five runs on six hits over four innings against Tampa Bay. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Brito struggled in place of Domingo German (who was eventually healthy enough to deliver five innings in relief), giving up five runs on four homers in the loss. Brito had been solid in his previous two MLB starts, allowing just two runs over 11.1 innings. Overall, his ERA is up to 5.17 with a 1.35 WHIP and 39:21 K:BB across 12 starts (55.2 innings). With German healthy, Brito will likely return to Triple-A.
Jul 31, 2023
Starting Monday in place of German
Brito will start Monday's game against the Rays, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Domingo German was scratched with an undisclosed physical issue, so Brito was recalled to make the spot start. Brito has been solid if unspectacular over his last five big-league starts, logging a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 16 strikeouts over 25 innings. He most recently struck out three and gave up three runs in five innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on July 25.
Jul 31, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
Brito was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ron Marinaccio was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move, as Brito presumably takes on a long-relief role for New York in the short term. Luis Severino has really struggled lately, giving up 27 earned runs in 21.2 innings over his last five starts, but there has not been any word of him getting removed from the rotation.
Jun 28, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A
Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Brito was optioned immediately following his loss to the Athletics, and he allowed two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings in that effort against Oakland. Ian Hamilton (groin) was reinstated off the 15-day injured list in the corresponding transaction. It's likely Brito will be back with the Yankees and making starts again before the summer comes to an end.
Jun 28, 2023
Falters against A's
Brito (4-4) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Brito didn't have a bad start, but he gave up a run in the third and fourth innings, and the Yankees couldn't overcome that deficit. He's come up an out short of a quality start in both of his outings since he was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The right-hander has a 4.70 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 35:21 K:BB over 51.2 innings through 12 appearances (11 starts) in the majors this year. Brito is tentatively lined up for a road start in St. Louis over the weekend if he gets another turn through the rotation.
Jun 26, 2023
Draws another start
Brito is listed as the Yankees' scheduled starting pitcher for Tuesday's game in Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Brito made a successful return to the big leagues following his call-up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last Wednesday, as he stepped in to keep the Mariners off the scoreboard over 5.2 innings while allowing just three baserunners. He'll get a chance to build on that strong outing in a favorable matchup versus the 20-60 Athletics, the first of what will likely be two starts for the rookie right-hander this week. Brito tentatively lines up to make another start Sunday in St. Louis.
Jun 21, 2023
Triumphant in return to majors
Brito (4-3) earned the win over Seattle on Wednesday, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings during which he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
ANALYSIS
Brito was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make the start and gave New York an efficient 81-pitch scoreless outing. Both hits the rookie right-hander allowed were singles, and at one point he retired 12 straight batters. Brito began his major-league career allowing just one run over his first 10 innings earlier this season, though his effectiveness tailed off after that. He struggled with a 7.08 ERA And 17:10 K:BB over 20.1 frames after being sent down to Triple-A in late May, so he's a risky fantasy proposition moving forward despite Wednesday's excellent outing. In addition, Brito may not stick in the rotation for long with both Carlos Rodon (back/forearm) and Nestor Cortes (shoulder) making progress in their respective returns from injury.
Jun 21, 2023
Called up ahead of start
The Yankees recalled Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his scheduled home start Wednesday against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Brito will make at least one turn through the rotation while the Yankees wait for one of their three injured starting pitchers (Carlos Rodon, Nestor Cortes and Frankie Montas) to return from the 15-day injured list. Depending on how he fares Wednesday, Brito could be in store for additional starts with the big club, though his body of work with the Yankees earlier this season doesn't inspire much confidence. Before he was optioned to Triple-A in late May, Brito turned in a 5.58 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 30:18 K:BB in 40.1 innings over his 10 outings (nine starts).
Jun 20, 2023
In line for Wednesday's start
Brito is expected to start for the Yankees on Wednesday against the Mariners, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yanks haven't announced a starter for the game yet, but Brito was spotted in the clubhouse Tuesday. Brito has collected a 5.58 ERA and unimpressive 30:18 K:BB over 40.1 innings in the majors this season. Even in a pretty favorable matchup, he's not a great streaming option.
May 21, 2023
Sent down to minors
Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Brito struggled in his start Saturday against the Reds, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings. That pushed his season ERA and WHIP to 5.58 and 1.49, respectively, which prompted the Yankees to send him down. Brito's active roster spot and slot in the rotation will go to Luis Severino, who is slated to make his campaign debut Sunday after a lengthy stay on the injured list due to a lat injury. Given his 4.0 BB/9, one of Brito's primary goals while in the minors will likely be to improve his control.
May 21, 2023
Struggles with control
Brito did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks over four innings against the Reds. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Brito narrowly avoided a disastrous third inning, walking three straight batters to load the bases with two outs but managed to allow just one run to score in the inning. However, the Reds got their revenge, with Luke Maile tagging Brito for a two-run home run that brought Jose Barrero in to score. After finishing each of his last three appearances with three or fewer strikeouts, Brito finally found his strikeout stuff, fanning six over four innings to tie his season-high in punchouts. With Luis Severino (lat) expected to make his debut Sunday, Brito may be headed toward a demotion considering his 5:3 K/BB and 5.58 ERA likely won't be enough to warrant keeping him on the big league roster.
May 20, 2023
Draws start Saturday
Brito will toe the rubber Saturday versus the Reds, Randy Miller of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees officially announced Brito as the starter Saturday, waiting to nearly the last minute to make that decision public. The right-hander earned a win the last time was on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings of one-run ball while allowing six hits and striking out two batters Monday against the Blue Jays. Since he surrendered seven runs to the Twins on April 13, Brito has produced a respectable 4.56 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 25.2 frames in six appearances with the Yankees.
May 16, 2023
Earns win versus Toronto
Brito (3-3) earned the win Monday, allowing four runs on six hits across 5.1 innings during a 7-4 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Brito served as a bulk reliever Monday after Jimmy Cordero went two innings as an opener. The right-hander was solid and allowed one or fewer runs while completing at least five innings for the fourth time this season. Across nine appearances (eight starts), Brito sports a 5.20 ERA, 1.43 ERA and 24:14 K:BB over 36.1 innings. Despite the solid performance Monday, Brito is still a candidate to head back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when Luis Severino (lat) is activated off the injured list.
May 15, 2023
In line for bulk relief
Brito is likely in line to serve as a bulk reliever on Monday against the Blue Jays, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees are opting for Jimmy Cordero as an opener in lieu of giving Brito a traditional start. Brito holds a 10.57 ERA and opponents have a 1.102 OPS in the first inning against him this season, so the move looks sensible on paper.
May 10, 2023
No decision Wednesday
Brito did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 4.1 innings against Oakland. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Both runs against Brito came in the second inning on back-to-back homers from Carlos Perez and Jace Peterson. Brito ultimately didn't qualify for the win, allowing a walk and a double in the fifth inning before being relieved by Jimmy Cordero. The 25-year-old Brito is now 0-3 in his last six starts after winning his first two outings of the year. Brito now sports a 5.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through eight starts (31 innings) this season. Brito may be destined for Triple-A soon, with Luis Severino (lat) starting a rehab assignment Wednesday.
May 6, 2023
Struggles early in no-decision
Brito did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over four innings in a 5-4 loss against the Rays. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Brito allowed at least one run in each of the first three innings, including solo home runs to Randy Arozarena in the first and Yandy Diaz in the third. The right-hander has surrendered multiple runs in four of his past five outings and hasn't completed more than five innings yet. Despite the struggles, Brito figures to remain in the starting rotation as long as Carlos Rodon (back) and Luis Severino (lat) remain on the 15-day injured list.
Apr 29, 2023
Gets back on track
Brito (2-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over five innings against Texas. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
After three consecutive starts without reaching five innings, Brito delivered a solid outing. The five strikeouts were the most the rookie has recorded since his first start of the season. Brito has a 5.56 ERA, but half of the runs he has allowed came in one start against the Twins on April 13.
Apr 24, 2023
Shaky in short outing
Brito (2-2) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks over 2.2 innings Monday, striking out one and taking a loss against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Brito turned in two scoreless frames before the Twins broke out with three runs in the third inning. Minnesota has had his number in 2023; Brito has allowed 10 runs in 3.1 frames against the Twins this season compared to just two runs through 14.1 innings in his other three starts. His ERA jumped to 6.11 alongside a 12:10 K:BB. Brito's next start is projected to be in Texas this weekend.
Apr 20, 2023
Bounces back with one-run outing
Brito did not factor in the decision against the Angels on Wednesday, allowing one run one three hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 4.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Brito was shelled for seven runs over two-thirds of an inning in his previous outing after giving up just one run across 10 frames over his first pair of big-league starts. Wednesday's performance was somewhere in-between; while he issued a career-high three walks and retired the side in order just once, Brito gave up only one run, which occurred after he departed from the game. The rookie hurler labored by throwing 84 pitches (47 of which were strikes) over his 4.1 frames, but this was a promising bounce-back performance following the blow-up in his previous start. Neither Carlos Rodon (back) nor Luis Severino (lat) are expected to return until at least May, so Brito figures to get at least another couple turns in the rotation.
Apr 14, 2023
Struggles mightily in loss
Brito (2-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing seven runs on six hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning against the Twins. He struck out zero.
ANALYSIS
Brito was the main culprit in the Yankees' worst first inning since 2000. The rookie struggled with his command, leaving too many easy pitches over the middle of the plate for the Twins' hitters. The Dominican native will have a chance to redeem himself on Wednesday against the Angels, where he will look to regain the form he had in his first two starts (one run in 10 innings pitched).
Apr 9, 2023
Sharp again Saturday
Brito (2-0) picked up the win Saturday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over five innings in a 4-1 victory over the Orioles. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander wasn't dominant, generating only six swinging strikes among his 92 pitches, but Brito didn't give up much hard contact and benefitted from some strong defense behind him. Unlike his last start, Brito wasn't immediately sent back to Triple-A after his outing, and it looks as though he'll get a chance to make a case for the Yankees' fifth starter job after posting a 0.90 ERA and 8:3 K:BB through his first 10 major-league innings. If he does remain with the big club, the 25-year-old's next start would likely come at home against the Twins.
Apr 8, 2023
Promoted for Saturday's start
Brito was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead of his start against the Orioles on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Brito delivered five scoreless innings during his MLB debut last weekend and will make another turn through the rotation Saturday. The 25-year-old spent most of last season at Triple-A and had a 3.31 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 53:24 K:BB across 70.2 innings. Josh Donaldson (hamstring) and Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow) were placed on the injured list.
Apr 7, 2023
Starting against O's on Saturday
Brito will start for the Yankees on Saturday against the Orioles, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees staff will be pushed back one day with Nestor Cortes starting against the Orioles on Sunday. Brito pitched well in his MLB debut Sunday while giving up two hits over five scoreless frames against the Giants, and he'll get another chance to impress against an Orioles lineup that has performed well thus far. The Yankees will need to make a roster move before Saturday's game.
Apr 3, 2023
Could return on April 12
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters before Monday's game that Brito could return to the Yankees on April 12 when they need another starting pitcher, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Brito was sent down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after his MLB debut Sunday, but it had nothing to do with how he pitched. The right-hander gave up just two hits over five scoreless frames while picking up a victory over the Giants, but the Yankees won't need a fifth starter until next week. Assuming Luis Severino (lat) isn't ready to come off the injured list, it would be a surprise if anyone but Brito was starting for New York next Wednesday.
Apr 2, 2023
Sent down following solid debut
Brito was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Brito made his major-league debut Sunday against the Giants and allowed two hits and a walk while striking out six in five scoreless innings to earn the win. While he'll head to the minors following his impressive showing, the move is likely being made since the Yankees have an off day next week, so the team could choose to utilize a four-man rotation. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see Brito return to the majors around mid-April, especially if Luis Severino (lat) needs more time on the injured list.
Apr 2, 2023
Impresses in debut
Brito (1-0) allowed two hits and a walk over five shutout frames Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Brito earned a spot in the rotation with a solid spring and a few injuries ahead of him on the depth chart. He backed that up with a scoreless MLB debut that featured 16 whiffs, 11 of which came from the changeup. The 25-year-old never allowed a Giant to reach scoring position. Brito posted a 2.96 ERA in 112.2 innings with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season. He's projected to start in Baltimore next week.
Mar 30, 2023
Recalled, will start Sunday
The Yankees Bryan Hoch of MLB.com Brito from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The transaction was merely procedural, as Brito had already been confirmed as a member of the Yankees' Opening Day rotation. He's scheduled to make his first MLB start in Sunday's series finale with the Giants at Yankee Stadium, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Mar 30, 2023
Confirmed as Sunday's starter
Brito will start for the Yankees on Sunday against the Giants, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That had been the expectation after it was announced Brito would take the rotation spot vacated by Luis Severino (lat). Brito posted a 2.96 ERA with a 91:35 K:BB in 112.2 innings with Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last season. He makes for a risky streaming option in his debut but is someone to keep tabs on.
Mar 26, 2023
Could start third game of season
Manager Aaron Boone said Brito could start the Yankees' third game of the season next Sunday versus the Giants in New York, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Boone didn't officially confirm that Brito would be part of the Opening Day rotation, but the 25-year-old righty appears to have all but clinched a starting role with all of Frankie Montas (shoulder), Carlos Rodon (forearm) and Luis Severino (lat) set to open the season on the injured list. Brito initially appeared in line to take the hill for the Yankees' fifth game of the season, but the team may be incentivized to move him up in the pitching schedule after he dazzled Sunday in his final Grapefruit League outing of the spring. Brito retired all 16 batters he faced in a 6-2 win over the Blue Jays, striking out three hitters while lowering his spring ERA to 2.08. If Brito ends up getting the starting nod for the Yankees' third game, Domingo German would presumably be pushed to the back of the team's pitching schedule.
Mar 25, 2023
Could open as fifth starter
Brito may be needed as the Yankees' fifth starter to open the season with Luis Severino dealing with a low-grade lat strain, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Yankees likely didn't enter the spring with Brito in their Opening Day plans, but with Severino, Carlos Rodon (forearm) and Frankie Montas (shoulder) all bound for the injured list, they'll need to turn to their eighth starter right away. The Yankees have yet to lock in Brito as their choice, but he was the only candidate explicitly mentioned by manager Aaron Boone. Brito produced a 2.96 ERA in 26 outings (23 starts) in the upper minors last season, though that came with a modest 20.0 percent strikeout rate. He's given up five runs (three earned) on nine hits in 5.2 innings this spring, striking out five while walking none.
Mar 12, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A
Brito was optioned Saturday to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre by the Yankees and reassigned to minor-league camp.
ANALYSIS
Brito was protected from the Rule 5 draft in November by being placed on the 40-man roster. The right-hander reached Triple-A last year and posted a 2.96 ERA with a 91:35 K:BB in 112.2 innings with Double-A Somerset and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It's possible that Brito could make starts for the Yankees before the end of 2023.
