The Guardians placed Allen on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Allen's trip to the injured list will put an early end to his rookie campaign. He'll finish the season with a 3.81 ERA and 1.40 WHIP alongside 119 strikeouts across 125.1 innings. Michael Kelly was recalled from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move.

Allen (7-8) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks over three innings as the Guardians were downed 7-6 by the Royals. He struck out one.

The rookie southpaw needed 68 pitches (43 strikes) to record just nine outs, with a two-run homer by MJ Melendez in the first inning setting the tone for the night. Allen hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his last five starts, posting a 6.14 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 22 innings over that stretch, and given that the 25-year-old has already tossed a career-high 145.2 innings between Triple-A and the majors this season, he could be shut down and lose his rotation spot should both Shane Bieber (elbow) and Triston McKenzie (elbow) get activated from the IL for a final start or two before the end of the year.

Allen did not factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over five innings against the Giants while striking out five.

Allen got himself in a jam right out of the gate, surrendering back-to-back singles to open the first inning, which would eventually lead to one run coming across for San Francisco. However, the rookie left-hander allowed just two hits and two walks from the second inning on and was in line for his eighth win prior to the Giants' late comeback. Allen has now pitched five innings of one-run ball in back-to-back starts, lowering his season ERA to 3.60. On the downside, he's also issued multiple walks in each of those starts and in seven of his last nine outings overall.

Allen allowed a run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Angels.

Allen had allowed 11 runs over his last 15 innings during his three-start winless streak. He was able to put in a good effort, though his pitch count got up quickly, and he was pulled after 90 pitches (55 strikes). The rookie southpaw is at a 3.68 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 113:43 K:BB through 117.1 innings over 22 starts this season. Allen is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers, though he could pitch in San Francisco if Xzavion Curry gets bumped from Cleveland's rotation next week.

It wasn't the start that Allen hoped for as the right-hander surrendered a leadoff home run to Yandy Diaz in the opening at-bat. He appeared to settle in after that, retiring nine of the next 10 batters he faced before giving up a three-run shot to Christian Bethancourt in the fifth. Allen had not allowed more than one home run in any of his previous five starts and he's now surrendered at least four runs in two straight. On a positive note, he did not issue a walk Saturday for the first time in his last seven outings.

Allen (6-7) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on six hits and a walk over four innings as the Guardians were downed 8-3 by the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

The rookie left-hander got staked to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a Jose Ramirez solo shot, but he immediately squandered it and Cleveland never recovered. It's the first time Allen hasn't lasted at least five innings since late June, and despite Saturday's stumble he sports a 3.80 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB through 45 innings since he rejoined the big-league rotation after the All-Star break. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, likely to come at home next weekend against the Rays.

Allen (6-6) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Tigers. He struck out five.

Allen started off the game with a walk followed by a two-run homer by Spencer Torkleson, but then settled in to allow no more damage. He finished his start by inducing 12 consecutive outs, but the Guardians could only muster one run which left him on the hook for a sixth loss on the season. Allen's next scheduled start is penciled in for Saturday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Allen (5-5) took the loss against Toronto on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

Allen induced only three swinging strikes in a less-than-dominant performance, but he kept the Blue Jays off the scoreboard outside of a George Springer solo homer in the first inning. That long ball was enough to give Toronto the win, however, as Cleveland's offense couldn't break through against Kevin Gausman and a trio of Blue Jays relievers. For Allen, the loss was his third in his past four starts, though he probably deserved a better outcome. The rookie is just 5-5 on the campaign, but he's pitched pretty well with a 3.55 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 88:35 K:BB over 91.1 frames.

Allen (5-4) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks over six innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win against the White Sox.

The only damage against Allen came in the third inning when he coughed up a pair of runs. He'd been tagged with nine runs (four homers) in his previous two outings before Friday's quality start. However, the four walks tied his season high. The 24-year-old rookie dropped his season ERA to 3.65 with an 85:32 K:BB through 86.1 frames. Allenly lined up to face the Blue Jays at home next week.

Allen (4-4) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings as the Guardians fell 7-2 to the White Sox. He struck out four.

The rookie southpaw didn't get much run support, as Cleveland didn't even get on the board until after Allen had left the game, and while he kept things close through four innings he faded late. He's been tagged for four homers and 10 runs (nine earned) in his last two starts, both against less than fearsome opponents in the White Sox and Royals, and the addition of Noah Syndergaard (finger) and the eventual return of Cal Quantrill (shoulder) could have the clock ticking on Allen's time in the rotation. He'll try to turn things around in his next outing, likely to be a rematch with the ChiSox next weekend back in Cleveland.

Allen (4-3) allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits over seven innings Monday, striking out five and taking a loss against the Royals.

Allen gave up just two runs through five frames before serving up a two-run shot to Salvador Perez in the sixth inning. It was the first homer allowed by Allen since June 15 and it was the first time in his career that he was tagged with multiple home runs. The left-handed rookie fired 12.2 shutout innings over his previous three starts and still owns a solid 3.39 ERA after Monday's hiccup. Allen's next outing is projected to be against the White Sox in Chicago this weekend.

Allen (4-2) earned the win Tuesday, allowing just one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings in a 10-1 victory over Pittsburgh. He struck out eight.

It was an excellent showing from Allen after he posted mixed results in his first MLB stint this year. The rookie left-hander lowered his ERA to a solid 3.21 with a 1.37 WHIP and 71:25 K:BB through his first 13 starts (67.1 innings). Allen should see an extended look in Cleveland's rotation while Shane Bieber (elbow) and Cal Quantrill (shoulder) are sidelined. He's currently lined up to face the Phillies this weekend in his next outing.

Allen was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

The left-hander will make his return to the Guardians' rotation Tuesday against the Pirates, taking the rotation spot vacated by Shane Bieber (elbow). Allen pitched well in his first go-round in the big leagues earlier this season, collecting a 3.47 ERA and 63:24 K:BB over 62.1 innings of work covering 12 starts. The southpaw went just three innings in each of his two starts after being sent back to Columbus, so he might not be ready for a full workload in Pittsburgh.

Allen is expected to start Tuesday against the Pirates, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

With Shane Bieber (forearm) likely joining Cal Quantrill and Triston McKenzie on the injured list, Allen should have a secure rotation spot for the foreseeable future. Allen had a 4.76 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 20 strikeouts in 22.2 innings over his five most recent MLB starts.

Allen was released by the Rockies on Sunday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Allen joined the Rockies on a minor-league deal last August but didn't join the major-league club during his tenure with the organization. The 26-year-old posted a 7.20 ERA and 20.9 WHIP in 45 innings over 24 relief appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque to begin the year and will now attempt to seek out other opportunities.

The moves comes one day after Allen needed 98 pitches to cover 3.2 innings against the Royals, albeit in a scoreless appearance. Allen didn't last longer than four frames in any of his last three starts, and while his ERA for the Guardians is sitting at 3.47, his 1.44 WHIP points to some work still needing to be done. Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is slated to return from the injured list this weekend and will take Allen's rotation spot.

Allen did not factor in the decision against Kansas City on Wednesday, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

Given that Cleveland won the game in a 14-1 rout, it's particularly disappointing that Allen didn't stick around long enough to garner a victory. The rookie pitched well enough -- he didn't allow any extra-base hits, threw over 60 percent of his pitches for a strike and fanned five batters -- but the Royals racked up 31 foul balls off him to drive his pitch count up to 98 before he could finish the fourth frame. Allen at least managed to lower his ERA to 3.47, but he's now gone four or fewer innings in each of his past three contests despite allowing zero runs in each of the past two.

Allen did not factor into the decision Thursday, allowing two hits and three walks over four scoreless innings against the Athletics. He struck out five.

Allen was able to keep the Athletics off the scoreboard over four innings, but he needed 89 pitches to do it before being relieved by Nick Sandlin to open the fifth. This comes after the lefty lasted just three innings in his previous start and he's now walked seven batters over his last seven innings of work. On a positive note, Allen was able to lower his ERA back down to 3.68 on the season with the scoreless outing and he'll look to bounce back at home next week when the Guardians take on the Royals.

Allen was spotted a five-run lead before he even took the mound, but he gave three runs back on a Manny Machado homer in the bottom of the first. The left-handed hurler surrendered two more runs in the third and didn't make it back out for the fourth frame. Allen's lack of control was a major factor in his rough outing, as he walked a season-high four batters, two of whom ended up crossing the plate. The rookie started his career with a flourish, posting a 2.76 ERA over his first eight starts, but he's come back down to earth in allowing 10 runs across nine innings over his past two outings. Cal Quantrill (shoulder) has begun throwing bullpens, and Allen's starting spot could be in jeopardy when the former returns to the rotation.

Allen didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 10-9 extra-innings win over the Astros, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.

Most of the damage came on a three-run shot by Jose Abreu in the first inning, but Allen still exited after 85 pitches (58 strikes) in line for his third loss before Cleveland set an modern era record by coming back from five separate deficits in the seventh inning or later. The rookie southpaw hadn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his first eight big-league starts, and he'll take a 3.31 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB through 51.2 innings into his next outing, likely to come next week in San Diego.

Allen (3-2) earned the win over Minnesota on Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Allen surrendered a first-inning solo homer to Jorge Polanco but bounced back to allow only one more run over his remaining five frames. The southpaw registered his third straight quality start after notching just one such effort over his first five big-league outings. Allen was initially called up to the majors due to injuries in Cleveland's rotation, but he may have cemented a permanent big-league spot given his strong 2.76 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 47:13 K:BB through 45.2 innings. Even with Triston McKenzie (shoulder) slated to make his season debut Sunday, the Guardians likely won't need to make any decisions about the rotation spots of Allen and fellow rookie Tanner Bibee for at least a few weeks with Cal Quantrill (shoulder) hitting the injured list Friday.

Allen (2-2) earned the win Monday, allowing three hits and two walks across seven scoreless innings during a 5-0 victory over Baltimore. He struck out 10.

Allen notched career-best marks in hits allowed, runs allowed, innings completed and strikeouts during his finest outing of the campaign thus far. The rookie was called up at the end of April and has been a steady piece of Cleveland's rotation, which continues to deal with numerous injuries. Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) are close to returning from the injured list, but it'll be difficult to demote Allen with the way he's been pitching. Across seven starts (39.2 innings), Allen sports a 2.72 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 43:11 K:BB.

Allen was cruising through his first six innings, allowing just one run on a Yasmani Grandal home run in the fifth. However, he surrendered three hits and a walk without recording an out in the seventh as he took his second loss of the season. It's been an up-and-down rookie campaign so far for Allen -- he's been hurt by a .350 BABIP against, though he's managed to maintain a solid 3.31 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB through six outings (37.2 innings).

Allen nearly had a disaster outing, as he loaded the bases in the second inning with no outs. But the lefty induced a pop up before two strikeouts to strand all three runners. Allen has flirted with danger recently, allowing seven or more hits in each of his last three starts. His 29 strikeouts in 26.2 innings have helped him keep a 3.04 ERA in his rookie season.

Allen yielded three runs on eight hits and two walks over 4.1 innings during Friday's loss to the Angels. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.

Allen worked through three shutout frames before the Angels brought home three runs in a long fourth inning. It was the shortest outing of his young career and his first time allowing more than two runs. The 24-year-old now holds a 3.43 ERA and a 24:7 K:BB through 21 innings. Allen is lined up for a road start against the White Sox next week.

After two fairly impressive starts to begin his major-league career, Allen was a little less dominant Saturday. The damage against him came on a two-run home run by Max Kepler in the sixth inning. Over 16.2 innings, Allen still has a solid 2.70 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB. He'll look to keep up the good work next week versus the Angels.

Allen has submitted a 6.87 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 18.1 innings through nine appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque this season.

Though he made six starts for Albuquerque in 2022 after signing a minor-league deal with the Rockies last August, Allen has worked in a full-time relief role thus far in 2023. With big-league rotation members German Marquez (elbow) and Noah Davis (elbow) recently moving to the injured list, however, the Rockies have been forced to dip into their pitching depth at the Triple-A level. With that in mind, it's possible Allen gets stretched out at Albuquerque and ends up entering the Triple-A rotation at some point, but his unremarkable results in relief thus far in addition to his lack of a 40-man roster spot will work against him in his hopes of resurfacing in the majors.

Allen was good again in his second MLB start. He allowed just two runs on Alex Verdugo's two-run single in the fifth inning. However, he took his first loss as the Guardians could only provide one supporting run. Allen has now struck out eight batters in each of his first two outings while issuing just three walks. The 24-year-old left-hander has a 1.50 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through his first 11 innings. Allen will likely make at least one more start for Cleveland with Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) still sidelined.

Allen is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Allen will get another turn through the Cleveland rotation after he dazzled in his MLB debut last Sunday against the Marlins, striking out eight while allowing only one earned run on five hits and one walk across six innings. Allen, a second-round pick in 2020, averaged 92 MPH on his fastball while featuring an impressive splitter. He'll likely make at least one more start with Cleveland while Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) are out. However, Allen certainly made a case for a more permanent role with his performance on Sunday.

The Guardians purchased the contract of Allen from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Allen will make his MLB debut against the Marlins on Sunday as the starter for the Guardians. The left-handed hurler pitched well in three appearances for Columbus with a 1.26 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 14.1 frames in the International League. The Cleveland rotation is currently dealing with a rash of injuries, so a strong showing in Miami would bode well for him sticking around the rotation in the short- -- and possibly long- -- term.

That's assuming the game doesn't get rained out, as the forecast in Cleveland for Sunday doesn't look promising. With Triston McKenzie (shoulder) and Aaron Civale (oblique) out and Cal Quantrill (leg) also banged up, Allen could have a chance to stick around a while if he pitches well.

Allen really struggled over five Cactus League appearances with a 12.71 ERA and 2.65 WHIP in 5.2 innings of work. The left-hander will provide depth while all but assuredly opening the 2023 season with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Allen signed a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Friday.

Allen reported to Triple-A Albuquerque and made his debut for the affiliate Sunday, when he struck out two and allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk over three innings. The Rockies mark the third organization of the season for Allen, who began the campaign as a member of the Guardians before he was waived and claimed by the Orioles, who released him earlier this month. For the season, Allen owns an 8.56 ERA in 27.1 innings at the Triple-A level.

The Orioles released Allen on Monday.

After being cast off the 40-man roster in May, Allen stuck in the Baltimore organization and had since been working in a relief role at Triple-A Norfolk. The 25-year-old didn't find much success in that capacity and will now look for work elsewhere after compiling an 8.51 ERA and 2.03 WHIP across 24.1 innings at Triple-A.

Allen cleared waivers Friday and was assigned to Triple-A Norfolk, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

The Orioles claimed Allen off waivers from the Guardians in early May, but he spent less than two weeks on the roster before being designated for assignment yet again. No one else wanted him this time around, so he'll remain as organizational depth for Baltimore.

"I think we're always open for options, but he'll start out in the bullpen, and I'll try to get him a lower-leverage situation early just because he hasn't pitched in a while," Hyde said of Allen. "Looking forward to seeing what he can do. We really like his arm."

After Baltimore claimed Allen off waivers from Cleveland last week, the southpaw was viewed as a candidate to step into the Orioles' depleted rotation, but he'll instead be eased into his new organization in a low-leverage relief role. Allen has yet to debut for his new team and could be called on as a multi-inning option in Thursday's game against the Cardinals, which Baltimore plans to treat as a bullpen day.

Allen hasn't had very good results this season, but he looked very good in this one and now has tossed three straight scoreless outings. Serving as the sixth pitcher in the team's six-man rotation, Allen has moved between the rotation and the bullpen this past month. He posted a 4.57 ERA through six appearances (21.2 innings) in September.

Allen and Cleveland won't face the Royals on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Northeast Ohio.

The two teams will make up the contest on their mutual off day next Monday. The postponement makes Allen's next start unclear. He had been serving as the No. 6 pitcher in the team's six-man rotation, but the southpaw could shift to the bullpen or head to the minors with Shane Bieber (shoulder) seemingly on track to return from the 60-day injured list this weekend.

Though Allen could eventually lose hold of a starting role after Cleveland returned Aaron Civale from the injured list last week, the 24-year-old lefty will get at least one more turn in the rotation thanks to the team's upcoming schedule. He's at a 6.86 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB through 40.2 innings this year. Allen and Eli Morgan are the likeliest candidates to lose their starting roles after Aaron Civale (finger) returns from the injured list Tuesday, unless Cleveland switches to a six-man rotation.

Allen's solid work over his past two starts (2.13 ERA, 0.71 WHIP in 12.2 innings) looks like it'll be enough for him to stick in the rotation for at least one turn, even with Aaron Civale (finger) expected to return from the 60-day injured list to make a start later in the four-game series with Minnesota. Unless Cleveland expands its rotation to six men once Civale is officially reinstated from the IL, however, Allen could be bound for the bullpen after Monday's outing.

Allen has outperformed Quantrill in the battle for the fifth starter role by allowing one run in nine innings with 11 strikeouts and one walk in major league games. Still, the Indians may not decide the final rotation spot until the final week of spring training.

Allen is battling for one of Cleveland's final two rotation spots, and so far he has been hard to overlook. Allen has had better results than Quantrill, but Quantrill had a better track record prior to this small Cactus League sample.
