Won't pitch final weekend
Webb will not make a start over the final weekend of the season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb was lined up to take the ball in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Dodgers, but the out-of-contention Giants no longer have a reason to push their 26-year-old ace. He finishes the 2023 campaign with a 3.25 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 194:31 K:BB in 33 starts covering 216 innings.
Sep 26, 2023
Goes distance in win
Webb (11-13) allowed a run on nine hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over nine innings, earning the complete-game win Monday over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
The Giants waited until the eighth inning to give their ace any run support, and he protected the lead himself in the ninth. Webb is no stranger to a lack of help, as he's won just three times in 11 outings since the start of August despite posting eight quality starts in that span. He's now at a 3.25 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 194:31 K:BB through 216 innings over a career-high 33 starts this season. The Giants are still on the outside looking in for a playoff spot, so it's unclear if Webb would pitch in the final series of the season versus the Dodgers if San Francisco is eliminated before his turn comes up again.

Takes loss despite quality start
Webb (10-13) took the loss Wednesday as the Giants fell 7-1 to the Diamondbacks, giving up three runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander wasn't at his best, but he still reeled off his fifth straight quality start on 102 pitches (69 strikes). Webb has gone just 1-3 during that stretch though, despite a 2.48 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB through 32.2 innings, as San Francisco has scored only four total runs for him in the four outings he didn't get into the win column. Webb's next start lines up for a home tilt against the Padres early next week.
Sep 15, 2023
Fires eight frames
Webb allowed one run on four hits over eight innings during Friday's loss to the Rockies. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb rolled through seven shutout innings before Colorado finally scratched across a run in the eighth. He was his usual efficient self, tossing 73 of 104 pitches for strikes and tying his season high by forcing 18 whiffs. He's walked fewer than two batters in 13 straight outings, registering an impressive 66:6 K:BB during that stretch. Webb now owns a 3.31 ERA with a 183:29 K:BB through 201 frames. He's currently lined up for a start in Arizona next week.
Sep 14, 2023
Start postponed by rain
Webb will not start Thursday at Colorado after the game was postponed due to rain.
ANALYSIS
The game will be made up with a split doubleheader Saturday at Coors Field. Webb should now take the ball for the Giants on Friday versus the Rockies, with Keaton Winn and Alex Cobb presumably lining up to cover Saturday's twin bill.
Sep 10, 2023
Earns 10th win
Webb (10-12) earned the win Saturday over the Rockies, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb was sharp, throwing 61 of 93 pitches for strikes. It was his third straight quality start, and it snapped a six-start winless skid for the right-hander. Webb is now at a 3.40 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 177:29 K:BB through a career-high 193 innings over 30 starts this year. With the Giants on the outside looking in for a wild-card spot, Webb will likely be leaned on down the stretch. He's projected to make his next start at Colorado.
Sep 4, 2023
Handed 12th loss
Webb (9-12) took the loss Monday against the Cubs, allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk over 6.2 innings . He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Webb was stuck with his third straight loss even though he managed to earn a quality start. The 26-year-old has seen his strikeout rate drop significantly post-All-Star break to 6.8 K/9 after being 9.1 in first half. Webb has also produced an unspectacular 4.27 ERA over 61 innings in his 10 second half starts.
Aug 31, 2023
Fans six in tough loss
Webb (9-11) took the loss Wednesday as the Giants were downed 4-1 by the Reds, giving up two runs on seven hits over six innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander delivered his NL-leading 19th quality start of the season -- only Gerrit Cole has more with 20 -- on 94 pitches (65 strikes), but Webb got little run support and is now winless over his last five outings. After posting a 3.49 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 29:3 K:BB through 38.2 innings in August, he'll kick off the final month of the season on the road, as he's lined up for a start early next week in Wrigley Field against the Cubs.
Aug 26, 2023
Yields five runs to Atlanta
Webb (9-10) took the loss Friday against Atlanta, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one over 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb has given up nine runs over 11.1 innings across his last two starts, both coming against Atlanta. He's now gone four starts without a win, though he should benefit from getting away from the league's most powerful offense. Webb is at a 3.51 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 163:27 K:BB through 174.1 innings over 27 starts this season. The right-hander is lined up for another challenging matchup at home against Cincinnati next week.
Aug 19, 2023
Struggles in Atlanta
Webb did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings against Atlanta. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
After nearly tossing a complete-game shutout in his last start, Webb came back to earth against Atlanta, tying his season high in hits allowed across six frames. Webb also surrendered his first home run since July 28, as Ronald Acuna tagged him for a solo shot in the fifth. The outing ended what was an impressive stretch of play for Webb, who boasted a 2.20 ERA and a 21:2 K:BB over his previous five starts (28.2 innings). Webb will have an opportunity to get revenge in his next start when Atlanta comes to Oracle Park.
Aug 14, 2023
Nearly tosses complete game
Webb pitched 8.2 innings and was charged with a run on six hits and a walk Sunday against the Giants. He struck out six and was not involved in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb had the complete game shutout at his fingertips, but manager Gabe Kapler decided to remove him in favor of Camilo Doval after Webb allowed a two-out double to J.P. Martinez. The next batter, Ezequiel Duran, managed to beat out a grounder to shortstop which scored Martinez to send the game to extras. Webb, who has already pitched one complete game shutout this season, fell just short of another but has tossed at least seven innings in five of his last seven starts. He has been far and away the Giants' best pitcher, though he sits at an undeserving 9-9 record. The 26-year-old boasts a 3.26 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 157:26 K:BB in 163 innings and lines up for a daunting road matchup with Atlanta his next time out.
Aug 8, 2023
Strikes out six Monday
Webb allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out six without walking a batter over 5.2 innings. He did not factor in the decision Monday versus the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Webb was solid but faded in the sixth inning. He was in line for the loss when he exited, but J.D. Davis' solo home run in the seventh inning tied the game at 2-2 to get Webb off the hook. The San Francisco ace has shown steady control lately, posting a 34:2 K:BB over 37.1 innings across his last six starts. He's at a 3.38 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 151:25 K:BB through 154.1 innings over 24 starts on the year. Webb is projected for a challenging home start versus the Rangers this weekend.
Aug 3, 2023
Evens record Wednesday
Webb (9-9) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Webb has generally done the Giants a lot of favors lately, covering at least seven innings in four of his last five starts as the team continues to get by with bullpen days frequently. He struggled early in this contest, giving up a pair of runs in the first inning before settling down. Webb is now at a 3.45 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 145:25 K:BB through 148.2 innings over 23 starts this season. He's projected for a road start versus the Angels next week.
Jul 29, 2023
Takes hard-luck loss
Webb (8-9) allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four without walking a batter over 7.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Webb turned in a quality start in response to his 1.1-inning disaster start versus the Nationals last weekend. The Giants' offense remained cold Friday, limited to just two runs on six hits and a walk, leaving Webb with a tough-luck loss. The right-hander posted four quality starts over five outings in July and ends the month with a 3.49 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 140:24 K:BB through 141.2 innings over 22 starts this season. Webb is projected for a home start versus the Diamondbacks next week.
Jul 23, 2023
Logs shortest start of career
Webb (8-8) took the loss against Washington on Saturday, allowing six runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 1.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb's outing began well, as he retired the side in order in the first frame. Things unraveled for him in the second, however, as six of the seven batters he faced reach base, culminated by a CJ Abrams two-run homer that was followed by Webb getting the hook. The right-hander tossed 41 pitches and got just one out in the second inning, and his departure after 1.1 frames marked the shortest outing of his career. Webb had been pitching well coming into the contest -- he compiled a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 28:2 K:BB over 22.2 innings covering his past three starts -- so Saturday's disaster should be viewed as an aberration rather than an expectation.
Jul 19, 2023
Quality start to begin second half
Webb allowed two runs on four hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over seven innings in a no-decision in Monday's game versus the Reds.
ANALYSIS
The game was suspended after seven innings and completed on Tuesday. Webb has earned quality starts in six of his last seven outings, posting a 3.14 ERA and 49:6 K:BB in that span. He's at a 3.11 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 134:23 K:BB through 133 innings across 20 starts this season. The right-hander leads the majors in innings pitched and should continue to function as the Giants' ace. He's lined up for a road start versus the Nationals over the weekend.
Jul 12, 2023
Getting extra rest
Webb will not be among the Giants' starter during their first series of the second half in Pittsburgh, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb leads all of baseball in innings pitched, so the team will give him a little extra rest around the All-Star break. Presumably, he'll make his second-half debut early next week in Cincinnati. Ross Stripling and Alex Cobb will get two of the starts this weekend versus the Pirates, with the Giants' third starter not yet determined.
Jul 9, 2023
Shuts out Rockies
Webb (8-7) allowed seven hits over nine shutout frames Sunday, striking out 10 and earning a win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Webb was outstanding Sunday, scattering seven hits (five singles) during the first career complete game. He ended the terrific outing with a bang by striking out the side in the ninth inning. Webb recorded just 30 strikeouts in 38.1 innings during June but he's posted a 21:2 K:BB over his last two starts. Over his last 15 starts he's registered a 2.73 ERA. The 26-year-old enters the All-Star break with a 3.14 ERA and a 127:23 K:BB through 126 frames on the year.
Jul 4, 2023
Strikes out 11 in no-decision
Webb allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out 11 over 6.2 innings, taking a no-decision in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Webb struggled to a 4.70 ERA over 38.1 innings in June, so this was a big improvement over his previous month despite the lack of a result. The solid outing trimmed his ERA to 3.38 with a 1.14 WHIP and 117:23 K:BB over 117 innings through 18 starts this season. The Giants' ace is tentatively projected for one more start before the All-Star break, which would come during this weekend's series at home versus the Rockies.
Jun 29, 2023
Stumbles to seventh loss
Webb (7-7) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up five runs on eight hits over five innings as the Giants fell 6-1 to the Blue Jays. He struck out five without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander saw his three-start win streak snapped abruptly as Toronto jumped on him for five runs in the first inning. Webb will look to put an uneven June behind him, as despite the win streak he posted a 4.70 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 30:7 K:BB through 38.1 innings over six outings on the month. He's next set to take the mound early next week at home against the Mariners.
Jun 24, 2023
Notches seventh win
Webb (7-6) earned the win Friday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Webb nearly has an even 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio as he continues his solid campaign. The right-hander hasn't allowed more than four runs in a start this year, proving to be a reliable option despite his six losses. His next appearance is tentatively slated to be against the Blue Jays on Thursday.
Jun 18, 2023
Earns win with quality start
Webb (6-6) allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Webb tossed three scoreless frames before the Dodgers plated a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. It was the first time he allowed fewer than three runs since May 27 and he dropped his season ERA to 3.11. After starting the year 0-4, Webb is 6-2 with a 2.53 ERA over his last 11 starts. He'll carry a 96:19 K:BB into his next start, which is projected to be at home against the Diamondbacks.
Jun 12, 2023
Fans six in win
Webb (5-6) allowed three runs on seven hits over seven innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Webb worked through four shutout frames before coughing up a home run in the fifth and sixth innings. After allowing two or fewer earned runs in seven straight starts, he's given up at least three in his last three outings. His ERA has jumped from 2.75 to 3.15 during that stretch. Webb has recorded a 91:17 K:BB across an MLB-leading 91.1 innings this season. He's lined up for a road matchup with the Dodgers this weekend.
Jun 8, 2023
Yields four runs
Webb allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Rockies on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up the first four runs of the game, but the Giants rallied over the seventh and eighth innings to get him off the hook. This was his second-shortest outing of the season, though it's no surprise pitching in Colorado gave him some trouble. The right-hander has allowed seven runs over his last 12.1 innings, following a four-start stretch in which he gave up just three runs over 27 innings. Webb's at a 3.09 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 85:17 K:BB through 84.1 innings across 13 starts overall. He's lined up for a road start versus St. Louis next week.
Jun 3, 2023
Touched up in loss
Webb (4-6) took the loss Friday, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk over seven innings against Baltimore. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Webb allowed eight home runs in his first 45 innings in 2023. Heading into Friday he had eliminated the long ball in his previous four starts. Gunnar Henderson's seventh-inning blast snapped Webb's 33-inning stretch without allowing a homer. After winning 15 games and posting a 2.90 ERA in 2022, Webb has actually been better this season. His ERA, WHIP, K/9 and BB/9 are all better in 2023 as the 26-year-old remains a stud at the top of the Giants' rotation.
May 28, 2023
Double-digit strikeouts in win
Webb (4-5) earned the win Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over seven innings during a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee. He struck out 11.
ANALYSIS
Webb's start was pushed back from Thursday to Saturday to give him extra time to recover from lower-back soreness, and it appears to have paid off, as he dominated the Brewers across seven innings. The right-hander's 11 strikeouts were his most since recording a season-high 12 during his first start of the year, and he's now allowed one or fewer earned runs in four straight appearances. During that stretch, Webb holds a 1.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 28:7 K:BB across 27 innings. He'll look to make it eight straight quality starts his next time out, which is tentatively scheduled for the opener of a three-game weekend set versus Baltimore.
May 25, 2023
Pushed back to Saturday
Webb, who was initially lined up to start Thursday's series opener in Milwaukee, will instead make his next turn through the rotation in Saturday's game against the Brewers while he receives additional time to recover from lower-back soreness, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result of pushing back Webb, the Giants will treat Thursday's game as a bullpen day, with lefty reliever Scott Alexander serving as the opener for the contest and with Jakob Junis representing the most likely option to cover multiple innings behind him. Manager Gabe Kapler reiterated Wednesday that the Giants aren't concerned about Webb, whose previously start May 20 versus the Marlins ended early on account of the injury. Webb was able to throw from 90 feet Tuesday without issue and shouldn't be in store for any major restrictions with his workload Saturday.
May 22, 2023
Cleared for next start
Webb (back) will make his next scheduled start Thursday in Milwaukee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb dealt with some lower-back soreness during his last start Saturday against the Marlins, but tests came back clean and he's expected to be fine. The right-hander will carry a 2.91 ERA into Thursday's outing versus the Brewers.
May 21, 2023
Dealing with lingering soreness
Webb has some lingering soreness in his back Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was pulled from Saturday's start against the Marlins after six innings with lower-back tightness, and he's experiencing some soreness a day later. Webb has yet to be sent for an MRI, and manager Gabe Kapler said "we're just not sure yet" if the imaging is necessary. The 26-year-old's availability for his next turn through the rotation remains up in the air as he continues to be evaluated.
May 20, 2023
Removed with back tightness
Webb left Saturday's start against the Marlins with lower back tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb fired six scoreless innings while allowing four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts before he was removed from the contest. The right-hander told reporters he doesn't expect to miss his next start, and that he's not scheduled to undergo an MRI at this point. It's certainly something to pay close attention to, but it does appear for now that Webb will be good to role next week.
May 14, 2023
Receives no run support
Webb allowed one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings during Sunday's loss to Arizona. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb worked through a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and fired four shutout frames before Arizona plated a run in the fifth. The Giants didn't provide much run support and lost 2-1. Webb has allowed two or fewer runs in five straight starts, posting a 2.04 ERA and a 30:8 K:BB during that span. For the season, he's sporting a 3.20 ERA across 59 innings. Webb's next start is projected to be at home against the Marlins.
May 10, 2023
Seven strong innings in win
Webb (3-5) allowed a run on nine hits and a walk while striking out seven over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Webb threw a stunning 85 of 102 pitches for strikes. While the Nationals got their hits, only one went for extra bases, and Webb was effective at limiting the damage to a Dominic Smith RBI single in the sixth inning. After allowing four runs in each of his first four starts, Webb has kept opponents to two runs or less in each of his last four outings. He owns a 3.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 55:8 K:BB over 52 innings this season. The right-hander is projected for a road start in Arizona this weekend.
May 3, 2023
Earns second win
Webb (2-5) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over 7.2 innings against Houston. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Webb was excellent Wednesday, holding the Astros scoreless until Alex Bregman's two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning. The 26-year-old Webb has allowed two runs in each of his last three starts, pitching into the seventh inning in all three outings. He now has a 3.80 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 48:7 K:BB through seven starts (45 innings) to begin the season.
Apr 28, 2023
Gets no support in loss
Webb dropped to 1-5 with a loss against St. Louis on Thursday. He pitched 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
ANALYSIS
Webb was brilliant through six frames, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard and retiring 10 straight batters. He finally wilted in the seventh, allowing a solo homer and three singles to fall behind 2-0. San Francisco never managed to push across a run, causing Webb to take his fifth defeat of the campaign. That's the most losses of any hurler in the majors this season, but Webb hasn't been terrible -- he's recorded a 4.10 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and an outstanding 43:5 K:BB across 37.1 frames.
Apr 22, 2023
Strikes out eight in first win
Webb (1-4) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over seven innings during a 7-4 win over the Mets. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up an RBI double to Daniel Vogelbach in the second and a solo shot to Brandon Nimmo in the third, but he got plenty of run support and cruised through a season-high seven innings en route to his first win. Through five starts (30.2 innings), the right-hander sports a 4.40 ERA with a dominating 36:4 K:BB.
Apr 18, 2023
Handed fourth loss
Webb (0-4) took the loss Monday against the Marlins, allowing four runs on eight hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Webb managed to strike out six but struggled to contain Miami's offense down the stretch, conceding four runs before being replaced in the seventh inning. Despite initially appearing on track for his first win of the season, Jorge Soler's pitch-hit two-run blast in the seventh turned the tide in Miami's favor. Webb boasts an impressive 28 strikeouts over 23.2 innings this year; however, his 4.94 ERA suggests room for improvement. Webb will have the opportunity to rebound in his next scheduled start in the upcoming series against the Mets.
Apr 16, 2023
Sunday's game postponed
Webb and the Giants won't play Sunday against the Tigers after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb was slated to make his fourth start of the season Sunday, but the game was called off following a five-hour delay. The Giants haven't revealed their updated pitching plans for their three-game series in Miami early next week, but Webb did some throwing work in the outfield Sunday, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him pitch against the Marlins at some point.
Apr 14, 2023
Signs massive extension
Webb and the Giants agreed on a five-year, $90 million contract extension Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After operating as one of the best pitchers in the National League for the last few seasons, Webb got his big paycheck. The right-hander produced a 2.90 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 163 strikeouts over 192.1 innings in 32 starts last season. With Carlos Rodon leaving San Francisco following the 2022 campaign, Webb became the unquestioned ace of the Giants' staff in 2023. With him locked up for the long haul now, the 26-year-old can focus on his craft on the mound and no longer worry about contract negotiations moving forward.
Apr 11, 2023
Drops third straight
Webb (0-3) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over six innings in a 9-1 defeat to the Dodgers. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Webb struggled with the long ball again, serving up a solo shot to Mookie Betts in the first and a three-run homer to Max Muncy in the third. Through three starts (17 innings), the right-hander has given up 12 earned runs on 19 hits, including four home runs, but his 22:3 K:BB is still encouraging.
Apr 5, 2023
Struggles early in loss
Webb (0-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on nine hits and zero walks over five innings against the White Sox. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up two runs in the first, and it could have been worse, as Andrew Vaughn was thrown out at home by Mike Yastrzemski to end the inning. The right-hander was able to settle down and tossed three shutout frames before giving up back-to-back RBI knocks to Hanser Alberto and Luis Robert in the fifth, but he was able to get out of the inning before being replaced to start the sixth. Webb posted a 2.90 ERA in 2022, but he's off to a slow start this season, allowing eight runs over his first 11 innings of work. His next start is scheduled for Monday's home matchup against the Dodgers.
Mar 30, 2023
Fans a dozen in '23 debut
Webb allowed four earned runs over six-plus innings Thursday in a loss to the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Webb tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts, but he served up a solo homer to Aaron Judge in the bottom of the first inning and a two-run shot to Gleyber Torres in the bottom of the fourth. His season debut then came to an end when he walked Torres to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Webb will aim to keep the swings-and-misses coming -- but maybe limit the big flies -- in his next scheduled outing on the road against the White Sox.
Mar 24, 2023
Making final spring start Saturday
Webb will get the ball for Saturday's Cactus League contest against the Mariners, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb will get the start for the final time in Cactus League play Saturday, and then will be on normal rest for his Opening Day tilt against the Yankees on Thursday. The right-hander has struggled in a limited sample in Arizona with a 5.54 ERA over 13 innings, but his success over the previous two seasons -- including a 2.90 ERA in 192.1 innings in 2022 -- makes him a strong fantasy option to begin the 2023 campaign.
Mar 14, 2023
Gets nod for Opening Day
Giants manager Gabe Kapler announced Tuesday that Webb will start on Opening Day against the Yankees, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
An easy decision here for Kapler after Webb turned in a 2.90 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 163:49 K:BB over 192.1 innings (32 starts) in 2022. The 26-year-old right-hander did struggle with a back injury down the stretch, but he's been a full-go in camp since late February. He's rightly being selected as top-30 starter in most standard fantasy drafts for 2023.
Mar 9, 2023
Starting minors game Thursday
Webb (back) is scheduled to throw three-plus innings in a minor-league game Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb battled a back injury down the stretch in 2022, but he's already logged two Cactus League starts this spring and will get a little more stretched out with a back-field outing Thursday afternoon in Giants camp. The 26-year-old right-hander seems likely to get the call for San Francisco on Opening Day of the 2023 regular season.
Feb 26, 2023
Spring debut coming Monday
Webb (back) will start Monday's spring game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander missed his final start of 2022 due to back stiffness, but it appears he's ready for the start of spring games. Webb will open 2023 as San Francisco's ace after he posted a 2.90 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 163:49 K:BB across a career-high 192.1 innings last year.
Oct 1, 2022
Done for season
Webb (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb was set to start Sunday against the Diamondbacks, but his season will instead be over after 32 starts. He posted a strong encore to his breakout 2021 campaign, maintaining a 2.90 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 163:49 K:BB across 192.1 innings. Sean Hjelle is expected to be recalled to take Webb's place on the active roster, and Scott Alexander will start a bullpen game for the Giants on Sunday.
Oct 1, 2022
Could be done for season
Webb is dealing with back stiffness and may not make another start this season, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb's injury doesn't appear to be a major one, but there's little sense in risking anything with the Giants all but eliminated from postseason contention. The 25-year-old righty has seen his innings jump from 148.1 last year to 192.1 this season, so shutting him down at this point may be a good idea even if he weren't dealing with a minor injury. Webb's turn in the rotation is due up Sunday, so the Giants will likely have to make a decision quite soon.

Continues solid September
Webb (15-9) earned the win during Tuesday's 5-2 victory over Colorado, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb permitted his lone run on three singles in the top of the first and shut Colorado's offense down over the next four frames to fall in line for his fourth win in five September starts. During the stretch, the 25-year-old has pitched to a 2.96 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. Webb has been one of the most durable pitchers this season -- he's tied for the MLB-lead with 32 games started and ranks fourth with 192.1 innings -- as he lines up to make one more start before the campaign concludes October 5.

Earns win over Rockies
Webb (14-9) picked up the win on Wednesday, shutting out the Rockies over 5.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five. He did not issue a walk but did hit a batter.
ANALYSIS
Webb brought his best stuff in this one as he cruised through the first five innings without allowing a hit. He was then removed from the game with one out in the sixth after allowing a single to Sean Bouchard. The right-hander threw only 66 pitches, including 13 first-pitch strikes, as the Giants look to manage his workload. Webb is projected to take the hill against the Rockies again next week in San Francisco.
Sep 17, 2022
Not sharp in loss
Webb (13-9) took the loss Friday versus the Dodgers, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb kept the ball in the yard for the seventh time in his last eight starts, but the Dodgers were able to beat him with small ball. The right-hander threw 57 of 90 pitches for strikes in a lackluster start. His ERA rose to 3.02 with a 1.19 WHIP and 151:48 K:BB through 182 innings across 30 starts this year. Webb is projected for a daunting road start in Colorado next week.
Sep 10, 2022
Picks up 13th win
Webb (13-8) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on six hits over seven innings against the Cubs. He struck out six and did not issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Webb turned in a couple clunkers early in the second half, but he's returned to form, posting 1.75 ERA in his last six starts. The 25-year-old is tied for sixth in the National League with 13 wins, and his 2.88 ERA for the season ranks sixth among qualified starters in the NL. Webb lines up for a home start against the Dodgers next week.
Sep 6, 2022
Grabs win over Dodgers
Webb (12-8) allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks with six strikeouts in six innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Giants hit five home runs in the contest, giving Webb plenty of support to take down the rival Dodgers. This ended a three-start losing streak for the right-hander, and it was his first quality start since he pitched eight scoreless innings Aug. 13 versus the Pirates. Webb has a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 143:56 K:BB through 171 innings across 28 starts this year. He'll look to build off of this outing in his next start, tentatively scheduled as a road date versus the Cubs this weekend.
Aug 31, 2022
Unlucky loss Tuesday
Webb (11-8) took the loss Tuesday versus the Padres, allowing just one unearned run on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb was fairly solid, but the Padres were able to scrape together a run in the sixth inning with the help of an error. The Padres added on in the seventh and the Giants couldn't catch up, sending Webb to his season-high third consecutive loss. The right-hander still has a solid 3.22 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and 137:46 K:BB through 165 innings across 27 starts this year. He'll look to snap the losing streak in a tough road start versus the Dodgers next week, which will likely be the first in a two-start week for Webb.
Aug 24, 2022
Beat up by Tigers
Webb (11-7) allowed six earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out six across 4.2 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Webb imploded in the fifth inning, as he allowed five hits and a walk to account for all six of the earned runs charged to him. He's now allowed six earned runs in two of his last five starts while recording only two quality starts in his last six outings. Despite the rough stretch, Webb still has a 3.33 ERA and a 130:45 K:BB across 159.1 frames on the season.
Aug 18, 2022
Lasts 4.2 innings in loss
Webb (11-6) took the loss Thursday against Arizona, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks in 4.2 innings. He did not strike out any batters.
ANALYSIS
Webb was not at his best Thursday as 12 of the 24 batters he faced reached safely. It was the first time in his big-league career that he failed to record a strikeout in a start. He was pulled with two outs in the fifth inning, ending a streak of 13 straight starts where he completed at least five frames. After fanning an impressive 26.5 percent of batters in 2021, the 25-year-old has a below-average 19.6 percent strikeout rate this season. His next start will likely be in the middle of next week in Detroit.
Aug 14, 2022
Excellent in win over Pirates
Webb (11-5) earned the win Saturday over the Pirates. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out nine over eight shutout innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb was efficient, throwing 65 of 99 pitches for strikes in his best start of the season. Since getting roughed up by the Dodgers on Aug. 1, Webb has won his last two starts, allowing just two runs, nine hits and five walks across 15 innings in those appearances. The right-hander's gem Saturday lowered his ERA to 3.00 with a 1.13 WHIP and 124:39 K:BB through 150 innings across 24 starts this year. He's projected for a home start versus the Diamondbacks next week.
Aug 7, 2022
Strong performance in win
Webb (10-5) earned the victory Sunday in Oakland, striking out five in seven innings while allowing two runs on four hits, three walks and a hit batsman.
ANALYSIS
Webb did not allow a hit until the fifth inning when Vimael Machin led off with a double and later came around to score. The 25-year-old righty recorded 11 groundouts and completed the seven frames with 97 pitches thrown. In his previous two starts, he allowed a combined 10 runs in 10.1 innings and Sunday's start was a step back in the right direction. For the season, his 3.17 ERA and 1.15 WHIP are very much in line with the 3.03 ERA and 1.11 WHIP he produced last season. His next start will likely be next weekend against Pittsburgh.
Aug 2, 2022
Roughed up in loss
Webb (9-5) allowed six runs on eight hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out just two in five innings as he took the loss versus the Dodgers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Webb had a run of eight straight quality starts in June and July, but his last two outings have been less than impressive. He gave up a two-run home run to Max Muncy in the second inning and then let the Dodgers cobble together a three-run rally in the third. He was also tagged for one more run in the fifth. The six runs allowed were a season high for Webb, who now has a 3.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 110:34 K:BB through 135 innings in 22 starts. The good news is that outings like this have been rare for the right-hander, who is projected for a much more favorable road start in Oakland this weekend.
Jul 28, 2022
Takes loss Wednesday
Webb (9-4) was tagged with the loss against Arizona on Wednesday, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five batters.
ANALYSIS
Webb entered the seventh inning with the scored tied 2-2, but he gave up consecutive singles to start the frame. Both of those runners were cashed in one batter later, sending Webb to the showers and saddling him with his fourth loss. The right-hander had given up four combined runs over 26 innings across his past four starts entering Wednesday, so the unhappy outcome against Arizona was far from the norm in terms of his recent performances.
Jul 23, 2022
Control issues in loss
Webb allowed a run on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The four walks were a season high for Webb, who was able to navigate the danger fairly well. He threw 63 of 103 pitches for strikes, though his control was not as sharp as usual. The right-hander still picked up his eighth straight quality start while lowering his ERA to 2.77 with a 1.12 WHIP and 103:32 K:BB across 123.2 innings in 20 starts. He's projected for a road start in Arizona next week.
Jul 17, 2022
Earns victory in quality start
Webb (9-3) earned the win during Sunday's 9-5 victory over Milwaukee, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six plus innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb shut down Milwaukee's offense following a Willy Adames solo home run in the first inning and cruised to an easy win on an efficient 88 pitches. The 25-year-old has now delivered seven straight quality starts -- during which he's pitched to a 1.37 ERA across 46 innings -- and ranks fourth in the league with 14 quality starts on the season. Webb wraps up the first half with a 2.83 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 101 strikeouts in 117.2 innings across 19 starts.
Jul 13, 2022
Throws six shutout innings
Webb (8-3) allowed five hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in six shutout innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Webb has allowed one or zero runs in five of his last six starts, and he's gone at least six innings in each of those contests. The right-hander had all the support he needed after the first inning as he continues to get back on a dominant track. He owns a 2.82 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 96:26 K:BB through 111.2 innings in 18 starts overall. Webb is on track for a home start versus the Brewers this weekend.
Jul 8, 2022
Excellent in no-decision
Webb allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out two in eight innings in a 2-1 loss Thursday in San Diego. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb was efficient and around the zone all night, throwing 70 of his 103 pitches for strikes. The lone mark against him came in the fourth inning when Manny Machado hit a solo homer. While he is fanning fewer batters this season, Webb's 2.98 ERA and 1.11 WHIP are nearly identical to his 3.03 ERA and 1.11 WHIP last season. His next start will likely be early next week against Arizona.
Jul 2, 2022
Takes loss in quality start
Webb (7-3) took the loss during Saturday's 5-3 defeat at the hands of the White Sox, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb began Saturday's start with three perfect innings but encountered trouble in the third and sixth, when he surrendered all but one of his baserunners and all five runs scored with the help of two errors. The 25-year-old fired 67 of 101 pitches for strikes with 14 of the swinging variety and is averaging over 103 pitches with 8.5 K/9 across his last five starts compared to just over 90 pitches and 7.6 K/9 in his first 11 turns. Webb is set to face off against San Diego in his next start, projected for midweek.
Jun 25, 2022
Strong in Saturday's win
Webb (7-2) allowed an unearned run on two hits, two walks and a hit batter with six strikeouts in six innings, earning the win versus the Reds on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Webb was just average for much of May and into June, but he's rediscovered the form that made him look like a staff ace in the latter half of 2021. Over his last three starts, he's covered 20 innings while allowing two runs (one earned), 13 hits and five walks while striking out 22. The right-hander now has a 3.04 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 81:22 K:BB across 91.2 innings in 15 starts overall. He'll look to keep rolling in a projected home start versus the White Sox next weekend.
Jun 21, 2022
Settles for no-decision
Webb completed seven innings against Atlanta on Monday, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out seven. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb allowed a second-inning Travis d'Arnaud solo home run but did not surrender any additional runs for the remainder of his outing. He didn't get much run support, however, and was in line for the loss until the Giants scored their only run in the eighth frame. Webb finished with his second straight quality start and has posted a 16:3 K:BB while yielding only one run across 14 innings over that span. He has posted a 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 75:20 K:BB while recording a 6-2 record over 85.2 innings on the season.
Jun 15, 2022
Throws seven shutout innings
Webb (6-2) earned the win Tuesday over the Royals. He allowed five hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in seven shutout innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb has seen a number of starts lately ruined by one rough inning, but it didn't happen Tuesday. He kept runs off the board for the first time in all season, though his three walks matched a season high. With the gem, the 25-year-old lowered his ERA to 3.43 with a 1.18 WHIP and 68:20 K:BB across 78.2 innings across 13 starts. He'll look to build upon this strong showing in his next start, tentatively scheduled for early next week in Atlanta.
Jun 9, 2022
One rough inning in loss
Webb (5-2) took the loss Thursday against Colorado, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out three in 5.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
The first five Rockies batters reached base to begin the fourth inning against Webb. Two reached on errors and the Giants committed a third error in the field allowing runners to advance. All three runs against Webb came around to score as a result. The 25-year-old has been competitive but unspectacular through 12 starts this season, amassing a 3.77 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 59:17 K:BB. His next start will likely be early next week against Kansas City.
Jun 5, 2022
Wobbles in fifth inning
Webb did not factor in the decision against Miami on Saturday. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six.
ANALYSIS
Webb looked to be cruising to a win through four innings, as he held the Marlins without a run while San Francisco built a 4-0 lead. However, things fell apart for the right-hander in the fifth, when he gave up three straight hits to start the frame and was pulled before he could notch the third out. This was the first time since April 19 that Webb failed to complete five innings, but he avoided taking his first loss since that date. He'll look for better results in a tough matchup in Los Angeles against the Dodgers next week.
May 30, 2022
Pitches into ninth frame
Webb tossed eight innings, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out 10 in the victory over the Phillies on Monday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb was unable to limit the homers in this one, giving up three solo shots and tarnishing what was an almost perfect performance. Most notably, he entered the ninth inning with a 3-2 lead, but he allowed a game-tying home run to Kyle Schwarber to open the inning and was forced out of the contest. The 10 strikeouts were a season high for the right-hander and he has now given up three or fewer runs in four straight starts and all but one of his 10 outings in 2022. Webb now owns a 3.52 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 50 punchouts over 61.1 frames this year.
May 25, 2022
Fans six in no-decision
Webb didn't factor into the decision during Tuesday's 13-12 win against the Mets, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb permitted one run on three hits in the second inning and another in the fourth before departing with a comfortable six-run lead only for New York to rally with seven runs in the eighth. Though he hasn't been dominant with 40 strikeouts in 53.1 innings, the 25-year-old has been extremely steady through nine starts -- allowing four runs or fewer in every turn -- that feature a 3.54 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. He's slated to take the mound again early next week against Philadelphia.
May 18, 2022
Survives Coors Field
Webb allowed three earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six across seven innings Wednesday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb coughed up two runs in the first frame but rebounded to turn in his sixth quality start in eight appearances this season. He did so primarily by keeping the ball out of the air, as 17 of his 21 outs came via either groundball or strikeout. Webb owns a 3.54 ERA with a 34:13 K:BB across 48.1 innings on the campaign.
May 13, 2022
Earns fourth straight win
Webb (5-1) allowed one run on three hits and three walks over six innings Friday, striking out one batter and picking up a win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up an RBI groundout to Paul Goldschmidt in the first innings before shutting the Cardinals down for five straight frames. It was the second time this season that he struck out only one batter, with the last one happening on April 19 when he threw just 3.2 innings. Webb is now sporting a 3.48 ERA with a 28:11 K:BB through 41.1 frames. He's expected to face the Rockies on the road next week.
May 8, 2022
Grabs win Saturday
Webb (4-1) earned the win over St. Louis on Saturday, completing five innings and allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven.
ANALYSIS
This was far from Webb's best outing of the season -- he allowed a season-high four runs and needed 84 pitches to get through five frames. However, the Giants racked up nine runs in the first four innings, allowing the right-hander to pitch with limited stress and enabling him to pick up his fourth victory. Promisingly, Webb tied his season high with seven strikeouts after punching out just three batters in his previous outing. He'll carry a 3.82 ERA into his next start, which lines up to be a rematch against the Cardinals -- this time in St. Louis -- on Friday.
May 1, 2022
Beats Nats again Saturday
Webb (3-1) picked up the win in Saturday's 9-3 victory over the Nationals, allowing three runs on 11 hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
It's the fourth quality start in five trips to the mound for Webb this season, but that obscures a somewhat disappointing April performance. The right-hander has managed only a 15.9 percent strikeout rate so far, a huge drop from last year's 26.5 percent rate, and his fastball is also one mph slower at 91.9. Webb has plenty of time to regain his 2021 form as the weather warms up, but his early results are a little concerning despite his record.
Apr 24, 2022
Strikes out six in win
Webb (2-1) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six in 6.2 innings to earn the win over the Nationals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Webb was charged with the loss when he gave up three runs in his last start, but he got plenty of run support from the Giants' offense Sunday. The right-hander built up to 98 pitches in Sunday's outing, and he's now posted a 2.96 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 24.1 innings this season. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Nationals next Sunday.
Apr 20, 2022
Shaky in loss to Mets
Webb (1-1) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings while striking out only one.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander put traffic on the bases in every inning, but Webb managed to keep the Mets off the board until the third, when an Eduardo Escobar double plated two runs. The 25-year-old was coming off two straight quality starts to begin the season, and even after Tuesday's outing he still sports a 2.55 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 17.2 innings -- although his 15.5 percent strikeout rate is a big step back from the 26.5 percent mark he posted in 2021.
Apr 13, 2022
Dominates in win
Webb (1-0) pitched eight innings, striking out seven and allowing one run on four hits in a 2-1 win Wednesday over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
After allowing a one-out RBI triple to Jake Cronenworth in the first inning, Webb shut down the Padres the rest of the way, giving up just two singles. The eight innings pitched was the most of any starter in baseball so far this season. The 25-year-old has given up just one run in each of his two starts in 2022. His next start will likely come early next week against the Mets.
Apr 8, 2022
Sharp in no-decison
Webb didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Marlins, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six-plus innings. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander blanked Miami over six frames, but after walking Joey Wendle on four pitches to begin the seventh, Webb was replaced by Dominic Leone and watched Wendle come around to score two batters later. The win then slipped through his fingers when Camilo Doval blew the save in the top of the ninth. Webb still got his season off to a flying start, and he'll look to keep that momentum going Wednesday at home against the Padres.
Apr 8, 2022
On pitch count
Webb will be on a pitch count Friday against the Marlins, though the Giants didn't specify what that pitch count would be, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The pitch count will hurt Webb's chances at getting a win, though he'll hardly be alone in that regard, as many pitchers won't be fully built up following the shortened spring training. Webb reached four innings in his final spring tune-up start, so it's still very possible that he can reach five innings Friday.
Mar 28, 2022
Named Opening Day starter
Webb was officially named the Giants' Opening Day starter Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It's been quite a quick rise for the 25-year-old righty, who wasn't particularly highly thought of heading into last season but finished the year with a 3.03 ERA. That number was backed by the rare combination of an elite 60.9 percent groundball rate and an above-average 26.5 percent strikeout rate. Webb will take the ball April 8 at home against Miami and will be lined up to take the ball the following week against the Padres, also at home.
Mar 21, 2022
In line for spring debut
Webb will pitch in his first spring game Wednesday against Arizona, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb is coming off a stellar 2021 season, posting a 3.03 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 158:38 K:BB over 148.1 innings. He's a strong candidate to be named San Francisco's Opening Day starter, a decision that is expected to be made by manager Gabe Kapler after one turn through the rotation this spring.
Oct 15, 2021
Delivers seven strong innings
Webb allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven across seven innings in Game 5 of the NLDS on Thursday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Three of the four hits Webb allowed came against Mookie Betts, and his only earned run came on a double by Corey Seager in the sixth inning. Webb otherwise dominated the Dodgers, inducing nine groundouts. Though the Giants came up short in the series finale, Webb allowed only one earned run across 14.2 innings while striking out 17 and walking one in two starts in the NLDS.
Oct 9, 2021
Sharp in postseason debut
Webb (1-0) allowed five hits and no walks while striking out 10 in 7.2 scoreless innings to earn the win against the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up four runs in seven innings during his final start of the regular season, but he bounced back in his first career postseason start Friday and was rewarded with the win. The right-hander needed just 92 pitches across his 7.2 innings, and he'll be a strong candidate to start Game 5 of the NLDS, if necessary.
Oct 6, 2021
Tabbed to start Game 1
Webb will start Game 1 of the NLDS on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb will be on full rest for Friday's start after he took the mound in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Padres. The right-hander lasted at least six innings in 12 of his last 14 starts of the 2021 campaign and recorded a 2.68 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 87.1 innings during that time.
Oct 3, 2021
Fans eight in win
Webb (11-3) allowed four runs on six hits over seven innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning a win over San Diego.
ANALYSIS
The only damage against Webb through seven innings was an RBI sacrifice fly by Manny Machado in the fourth inning. He allowed three straight singles to begin the eighth, including an RBI base hit by Victor Caratini, and was charged with two more runs after he left the game. The 24-year-old righty helped himself at the plate, launching a two-run homer and scoring three runs. Webb finished the 2021 regular season with a strong 3.03 ERA and 158:36 K:BB through 148.1 innings.
Sep 29, 2021
Pitches five strong
Webb tossed five innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits and two walks while striking out six in Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb allowed his only run in the third frame after an error by LaMonte Wade prolonged the inning. He had struggled a little bit in his last four starts giving up 14 runs in 24 innings, but Tuesday was his 17th start of the year in which he gave up two or less runs. Webb is expected to start Sunday's regular season finale against the Padres.
Sep 23, 2021
Done in by rough first inning
Webb lasted only four innings Thursday against the Padres, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks in a no-decision. He had three strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Webb gave up all four of his runs in the first inning, hitting a batter and allowing three hits, two walks and a sacrifice fly in the frame. He was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the top of the fifth with his pitch count already at 78, just 44 of them strikes. Webb, who is 10-3 on the year with a 3.04 ERA and 144:34 K:BB in 136.1 innings, draws a favorable home matchup with the Diamondbacks next Tuesday.
Sep 18, 2021
Another quality start
Webb didn't factor into the decision Friday against Atlanta after tossing seven innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits and striking out nine.
ANALYSIS
Friday's outing was Webb's 10th quality start out of his last 11 appearances, and he continues to be a steady presence at the top of the rotation for San Francisco. Webb owns an excellent 2.20 ERA with a 0.99 WHIP, 9.8 K/9 and 1.4 BB/9 through 10 games since the beginning of August.
Sep 13, 2021
Earns win despite average outing
Webb (10-3) earned the win Sunday against the Cubs after allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks while fanning five across six innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb hasn't lost a game since May 5 and has been a very consistent arm for the Giants. In fact, this was the first time he gave up more than three earned runs since early that outing against the Rockies, where he allowed six runs across 3.2 innings at Coors Field. His numbers have been nothing short of outstanding since the All-Star break, as he has gone 6-0 with a 2.21 ERA across 73.1 innings (12 starts) since then.
Sep 8, 2021
Strong over seven innings
Webb (9-3) picked up a win tossing seven innings while giving up three runs on nine hits and striking out six against the Rockies on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old worked through a ton of traffic on the bases Tuesday but he was able to limit the damage to only three runs. CJ Cron drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning and the last run against him came around to score in the seventh inning on a Joshua Fuentes single. Webb has now logged nine consecutive quality starts while posting 1.70 ERA and a 5-0 record. He will look to make it an even 10 consecutive in his next start Sunday against the Cubs in Chicago.
Sep 2, 2021
Racks up 10 strikeouts
Webb completed seven innings in a no-decision Thursday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old matched his season high for strikeouts but still came away with a no-decision after turning a 1-1 affair over to the bullpen. The lone blemish on his line was a Jace Peterson RBI single in the fourth inning that tied the game. Webb has seen an uptick in his strikeout numbers since early August, whiffing 48 over 39.1 innings in six starts during that stretch. He's lined up to face the Rockies at Coors Field in his next scheduled start.
Aug 28, 2021
Shuts out Braves over seven innings
Webb (8-3) allowed five hits with one walk and six strikeouts over seven shutout innings, picking up the win in Saturday's 5-0 victory over the Braves.
ANALYSIS
Webb did it all on Saturday, even helping his own cause with a double as he cruised through seven dominant innings in Atlanta. The right-hander limited a potent Braves order to just five singles on the night while striking out six. After averaging four strikeouts per game over four starts in July, the 24-year-old has averaged 6.8 strikeouts over six starts in August. His ERA reflects this improvement, as it now sits at 1.41 for the month, well below his season mark of 2.65.

Fans seven in no-decision
Webb allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven across six innings in the win over the Athletics on Sunday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb fired five scoreless innings before allowing a run in the sixth on a Mark Canha single. That run was enough for Webb to not get the win. He has six straight quality starts dating back to July 27. The 24-year-old has a 2.84 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 105 strikeouts in 98.1 innings this season.
Aug 18, 2021
Strong effort against Mets
Webb (7-3) earned the win Tuesday over the Mets after allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while fanning eight across 7.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb has struck out at least eight in each of his last three starts, but his levels of dominance haven't been reflected in that single category only -- he has also allowed two or fewer runs in each of his last 11 starts. The right-hander owns an excellent 1.64 ERA with a 0.91 WHIP during that span, and it's safe to say he's been one of the best pitchers in the National League over the last three months.
Aug 13, 2021
Blanks Colorado
Webb (6-3) won Thursday's 7-0 dispatching of the Rockies, throwing six innings and allowing three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Webb was brilliant Thursday, with more strikeouts than baserunners allowed on his way to his first scoreless start since May. No Rocky made it past second base and three double plays assisted the 24-year-old in needing only 91 pitches to get through six innings. Webb now has four straight quality starts and hasn't lost since back on May 5, improving his ERA from 5.34 to 2.96 in the 10-start stretch.
Aug 6, 2021
Fans nine in quality start
Webb allowed a run on three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in six innings, taking a no-decision versus Milwaukee on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was every bit as good as Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes in this contest, as both pitchers' lone runs allowed came on solo home runs. Webb has posted three straight quality starts, but he has just one win to show for it in that span. He owns a 3.19 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 82:24 K:BB through 79 innings this year. Webb is projected to make his next start at home versus Colorado next week.
Aug 1, 2021
Back in win column
Webb (5-3) earned the win Sunday versus Houston. He allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander allowed a two-run home run to Yuli Gurriel in the first inning, but he was able to keep Houston relatively quiet after that. Webb has allowed just six runs in 24 innings since he returned from a shoulder injury. The 24-year-old has a 3.33 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 73:23 K:BB through 73 innings this season. He'll try to keep things rolling when he takes the mound during next weekend's series in Milwaukee.
Jul 28, 2021
Spins six strong innings
Webb allowed a run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings versus the Dodgers on Tuesday. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander has allowed just four runs across 18 innings (four starts) since he returned from a shoulder injury. Webb outdueled Dodgers starter Julio Urias in Tuesday's contest, although the former has now gone four straight starts without a decision. For the year, Webb has a solid 3.36 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 70:22 K:BB through 67 innings. He lines up for a challenging home start versus Houston this weekend.
Jul 22, 2021
Decent against Dodgers
Webb pitched five innings in Wednesday's 4-2 win against the Dodgers, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts. He didn't factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Webb pitched well against a formidable Los Angeles lineup, limiting the damage to a Chris Taylor home run and an AJ Pollock RBI double, however he was in line for the loss until San Francisco staged a ninth-inning rally. He's now allowed three runs in 12 innings since returning from the IL and the Giants have won six straight games in which Webb has made an appearance.
Jul 17, 2021
Tosses four strong innings
Webb did not factor in the decision against St. Louis on Friday, hurling four innings and allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander picked up only two punchouts in the contest, but he was otherwise effective, limiting the Cardinals to a fourth-inning run. He is still building back up after missing over a month with a right shoulder strain, however, and was therefore unable to go deep enough Friday to qualify for the win. Webb has given up only one run across seven innings since returning from the injured list July 9, which could help him maintain a spot with the big club, at least temporarily. He tentatively lines up to next face the Dodgers in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
Jul 16, 2021
Starting Friday's game
Webb was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to start Friday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Webb will step in to start on short notice after Kevin Gausman (personal) was scratched from his scheduled start. The right-hander returned from the injured list July 9 and allowed a hit and no walks while striking out four in three scoreless innings against the Nationals.
Jul 10, 2021
Optioned to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Webb to Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb is expected to get some work in with the minor-league club during the All-Star break, as he's still building up his innings load after a shoulder injury. Joey Bart was recalled in a corresponding move.
Jul 10, 2021
Excels in return
Webb pitched three scoreless innings against Washington on Friday, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out four. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander made his first big-league appearance since May 29, so he didn't go very deep into the game despite pitching effectively. Still, it was a triumphant return for Webb, who had posted a 1.06 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 21:3 K:BB over his past three starts before going down with a shoulder injury in early June. Assuming he came out of Friday's contest fine, Webb should continue to stretch out as a member of the rotation following the All-Star break. His next start could come on the road against the Dodgers.
Jul 9, 2021
Reinstated ahead of start
Webb (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of his Friday start against the Nationals, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It was reported Thursday that Webb would take the ball for the series opener and now San Francisco has made room for the right-hander on the 26-man roster by placing Buster Posey (thumb) on the 10-day IL. Webb could be in line for a shorter outing given that he threw just two innings during his lone rehab outing with Triple-A Sacramento on July 1.
Jul 8, 2021
Set to start Friday
Webb (shoulder) is expected to start Friday's series opener at home versus Washington, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb has been out since early June with a right shoulder strain that also affected him in May. The right-hander will need to be officially reinstated from the injured list prior to making the start Friday. He made one rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento, allowing one run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in two innings. The brevity of that outing could see Webb on a pitch count Friday.
Jul 6, 2021
Rejoins Giants, not yet activated
Webb (shoulder) rejoin the Giants but has yet to be activated from the 10-day injured list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander was scheduled for a rehab game at Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, but there was apparently a change of plan as he nears his activation. Webb was expected to throw about 45 pitches in the rehab outing, and he could be in the mix to pitch Friday against the Nationals as part of a bullpen game.
Jul 3, 2021
Second rehab outing scheduled
Webb (shoulder) will throw 45 pitches for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb threw two innings during his first rehab start Thursday and allowed one run on a hit and a walk while striking out one in two innings. The right-hander threw 26 pitches in his first rehab appearance, and he'll ramp up his workload Tuesday. The Giants want to see Webb work as both a starter and reliever during his rehab appearance, but it's not yet clear whether Tuesday's outing will be as a starter or out of the bullpen.
Jul 1, 2021
Set to throw two innings
Webb (shoulder) will start his rehab assignment by throwing two innings with Triple-A Sacramento, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb threw a simulated game Sunday, clearing the way for this rehab outing. Interestingly, it was also noted that Webb will work out of the bullpen in an additional appearance with Sacramento, as the Giants want to see him work as both a starter and reliever. Through 10 appearances this season, Webb has started on nine occasions.
Jun 27, 2021
Rehab assignment on tap
Webb (shoulder) is expected to join a minor-league affiliate for a rehab assignment this week, Amy Gutierrez of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander threw 20 pitches in a simulated inning Sunday, clearing the way to embark on a rehab assignment. Webb has been on the injured list since June 3 with a strained right shoulder, so he'll likely require multiple outings in the minors to build up his arm before being activated.
Jun 25, 2021
Simulated inning on tap
Webb (shoulder) will throw a simulated inning this week, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb threw a bullpen session Monday, and he'll progress to facing hitters in the near future. He's been dealing with a right shoulder strain since mid-May but has steadily progressed through his rehab process since he began a throwing program. The right-hander will likely require a rehab assignment before he returns to the Giants, but it's not yet clear when that could occur.
Jun 22, 2021
Completes bullpen session
Webb (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander resumed throwing last week and is now back to working off a mound. He's been battling the right shoulder strain since mid-May, though he did return from the injured list to make one start in late May before landing back on the shelf. Webb figures to require a rehab assignment before rejoining the starting rotation this time around
Jun 14, 2021
Ready to throw Tuesday
Webb (shoulder) will begin a throwing program Tuesday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb has been out for just over two weeks due to a strained right shoulder. It's not clear exactly when he's expected to return, and the Giants may want to be extra careful of him, as he'd also missed time earlier in May due to the issue before returning to make a single start and then heading back to the injured list.
Jun 3, 2021
Placed on injured list
Webb was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain Thursday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb dealt with a shoulder strain at the end of May, but he was reinstated from the injured list Saturday and earned the win over the Dodgers. However, the right-hander apparently hasn't moved past the injury, as he'll now require another stint on the injured list. Right-hander Nick Tropeano was recalled as part of a corresponding move, while Scott Kazmir (personal) or Conner Menez could be candidates to take Webb's place in the rotation.
May 30, 2021
Fans seven in win
Webb (4-3) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out seven across five innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Webb's only hit against him came on a Justin Turner double that scored Gavin Lux in the first inning. In Webb's last three starts, he is 3-0 with a 1.06 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 17 innings. For the season, the 24-year-old has a 3.86 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP with a 9.9 K/9 in 49 innings. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Cubs.
May 29, 2021
Reinstated ahead of start
Webb (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Saturday's start against the Dodgers, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb only missed one turn through the rotation due to a mild right shoulder strain. The right-hander used all of his pitches in a 35-pitch bullpen session Wednesday and didn't require a rehab assignment before returning. It's not clear whether Webb will be on a pitch count Saturday, but Scott Kazmir could serve in a piggyback role if Webb isn't fully built up. Jason Vosler and Nick Tropeano were optioned to Triple-A Sacramento as part of a corresponding move.
May 27, 2021
Rejoining rotation Saturday
Manager Gabe Kapler announced that Webb (shoulder) would be activated from the 10-day injured list to start Saturday's game against the Dodgers in Los Angeles, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb will only end up missing one start due to the mild right shoulder strain that resulted in him being placed on the IL on May 17. Rather than sending Webb out on a minor-league rehab assignment before activating him, the Giants were satisfied enough with the right-hander's health after he used all his offerings in a 35-pitch bullpen session Wednesday. The Giants could still choose to bring Webb back with a more limited workload than usual, with Scott Kazmir potentially piggybacking him for two or three innings out of the bullpen.
May 25, 2021
Throwing side session
Webb (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a side session Wednesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old played catch Sunday after landing on the injured list a couple days earlier, and he'll return to mound work Wednesday. Webb remains a possibility to rejoin the rotation when eligible to be activated Friday, with Scott Kazmir likely to receive another start should Webb require more time.
May 23, 2021
Plays catch Sunday
Webb (shoulder) is playing catch Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old landed on the injured list with a left shoulder strain Thursday, so his quick return to throwing is an encouraging sign for his recovery. The Giants previously expressed optimism Webb would miss only one start due to the injury, though it remains to be seen if he's able to return from the injured list Friday when eligible.
May 20, 2021
Lands on injured list
Webb was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right shoulder Thursday, source reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb left his start Monday against the Reds prematurely with what was originally called shoulder soreness. The Giants previously expressed optimism that he wouldn't have to miss a start, but it turns out that the injury is serious enough that he'll miss at least one. The move can be backdated to Tuesday, leaving him eligible to return next Thursday, but it's not yet clear if he's expected to do so.
May 18, 2021
Expected to make next start
Webb (shoulder) is feeling better and is expected to make his next start, which lines up to come Saturday against the Dodgers, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb dealt with shoulder soreness in his start Monday against the Reds, but the issue doesn't appear to be a significant one. The Giants haven't officially confirmed that he'll make his outing, as they have to monitor his progress, but they appear to be optimistic.
May 17, 2021
Dealing with shoulder soreness
Webb left Monday's game against the Reds due to shoulder soreness, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. He picked up the win and allowed six hits and one walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings prior to exiting.
ANALYSIS
Manager Gabe Kapler mentioned after the game that Webb didn't come back out for the seventh inning due to the shoulder issue. The plan is to get him some treatment, and the team will continue to evaluate him over the next few days. Webb will be considered day-to-day for the time being.
May 11, 2021
Whiffs 10 in second win
Webb (2-3) earned the win Tuesday against the Rangers after recording 10 strikeouts and allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over six innings.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old had nine strikeouts over his previous two outings, but he generated 14 swinging strikes Tuesday to fan double-digit batters for the first time this season. Webb had a 4.74 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 43:16 K:BB through 36 innings (seven starts) in 2021.
May 6, 2021
Surrenders six runs in loss
Webb (1-3) took the loss Wednesday at Colorado after giving up six runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks over 3.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old issued three walks for the third time this year as he allowed a season-high six runs while failing to finish the fourth inning Wednesday. Webb has a 5.34 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB across 32 innings through his first seven outings (six starts) of 2021.
May 1, 2021
Solid again but takes loss
Webb (1-2) tossed six innings against San Diego on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out four. He was tagged with the loss.
ANALYSIS
Webb notched his second straight quality start in the contest, but he was outdueled by Yu Darvish and suffered the loss. Still, it was a promising effort from Webb after he began the campaign by allowing 10 earned runs over his first 15.1 frames. The right-hander has since yielded only three runs over 13 innings while registering a 12:4 K:BB over his past two starts. He's tentatively lined up to face the Rockies at Coors Field on Wednesday.
Apr 26, 2021
Fires seven shutout innings
Webb (1-1) pitched seven scoreless innings in a win over the Marlins on Sunday. He allowed just three hits while also walking three and striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
Webb contributed on both sides of the baseball Sunday, as he gave himself some run support with a two-run triple in the second inning to put the Giants up 3-0. The 24-year-old was dominant on the mound too. He was able to work around three hits and three walks by prompting three double-plays and also tied his career-high in punchouts with eight. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next scheduled start against the Padres on Saturday.
Apr 21, 2021
Hit hard Tuesday
Webb allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings. He did not factor into the decision during Tuesday's 10-7 win over the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Webb got himself out of early trouble in the first after getting Brad Miller to ground into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play with the bases loaded. He wasn't so fortunate in the following innings, as he allowed an RBI double to Nick Maton in the second and a three-run homer to Miller later in the third. The 24-year-old left-hander has had trouble in all three of his starts thus far, combining to give up 10 runs, 22 hits, seven walks and three home runs over 14.1 innings. The Giants will likely need one more start from him, which is scheduled to be Sunday against the Marlins, while Johnny Cueto (lat) remains on the 10-day injured list
Apr 20, 2021
Returns for scheduled start
Webb was activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday against the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Webb spent the last two days on the COVID-19 injured list while recovering from the side effects of the coronavirus vaccine. He's now ready to make his third start of the season, having posted a 4.76 ERA and 1.76 WHIP across two starts and one relief appearance.
Apr 18, 2021
On track for Tuesday's start
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said he expects Webb (COVID-19 injured list) will be ready to make his next scheduled turn through the rotation Tuesday in Philadelphia, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb was placed on the IL earlier Sunday as a precaution while he continues to experience lingering effects from the second COVID-19 vaccine shot he recently received. San Francisco is still listing Webb as its probable starter for Tuesday, so fantasy managers can probably count on him being ready to go for what's shaping up to be a two-start week. After Tuesday, Webb would line up to make a second start next Sunday versus the Marlins.
Apr 18, 2021
On mend from vaccine shot
The Giants clarified that Webb was placed on the injured list Sunday due to lingering effects from the second COVID-19 vaccine shot he recently received, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco is optimistic that Webb will be feeling closer to 100 percent within one or two days, and he'll be eligible to come off the IL at any point the Giants deem him ready to go. Assuming that's the case, Webb should still be on track to start Tuesday's game in Philadelphia, where he'll be stepping into the rotation as a replacement for the injured Johnny Cueto (lat).
Apr 18, 2021
Heads to IL
The Giants placed Webb on the injured list Sunday due to an unspecified issue.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco provided no explanation for why Webb and McGee were placed on the IL, perhaps suggesting that both were shut down due to COVID-19-related protocols. Regardless of why he was dropped from the active roster, Webb is no longer in line to rejoin the rotation during the upcoming week, as had been expected following Johnny Cueto's (lat) recent placement on the IL. The Giants will first require a replacement in the rotation for Webb on Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Apr 16, 2021
Needed in rotation again
Webb will move back to the rotation for a pair of starts while Johnny Cueto (lat) is on the injured list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb opened the season with a pair of starts, giving up six runs on 15 hits in 10.1 innings, before moving to the bullpen. He's needed again in the rotation temporarily but will likely return to the bullpen in late April unless another injury strikes the Giants' rotation.
Apr 14, 2021
Perfect inning in relief outing
Webb pitched a perfect seventh inning with one strikeout to earn a hold in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Webb was taken out of the rotation Wednesday, as Alex Wood is expected to return Saturday. The 24-year-old Webb through 11 pitches (six strikes) in his first relief appearances of the year. The right-hander is expected to be available for long-relief duties when necessary. He has a 4.76 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB through 11.1 innings this season. Considering Johnny Cueto (lat) left Wednesday's game early, Webb could be a candidate for a spot start Tuesday in Philadelphia.
Apr 14, 2021
Shifting to bullpen role
Webb will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb made two starts to begin the regular season and posted a 5.23 ERA and 1.94 WHIP in 10.1 innings. However, Alex Wood (back) is slated to make his season debut as a starter Sunday, so Webb will move to a relief role while Aaron Sanchez remains in the starting rotation. Webb should serve as a long reliever for San Francisco but is expected to remain stretched out in case he's needed as a starter at some point, Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports.
Apr 10, 2021
Labors through five innings
Webb allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings during Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rockies. He had six strikeouts and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander started out with three scoreless frames but surrendered three runs across the fourth and fifth innings. Webb has given up six runs on 15 hits with a 11:5 K:BB over 10.1 innings through his first two starts of the season, and he's set to pitch at Miami next weekend.
Apr 4, 2021
Shaky in first start
Webb (0-1) took the loss against Seattle on Saturday, hurling 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five.
ANALYSIS
Webb looked dominant in Cactus League play, allowing only one run and posting a 22:2 K:BB across 17 innings. The story was much different in his initial outing of the regular season, however, as the right-hander allowed too much traffic on the basepaths and yielded three runs between the third and fourth innings. Webb will look to rebound in his next start, currently slated to take place Saturday at home against Colorado.
Mar 28, 2021
Wins No. 3 starter role
Webb will begin the season in the starting rotation and make his first start Saturday at Seattle, manager Gabe Kapler told the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Anthony DeSclafani will begin the season as the No. 4 starter and Aaron Sancher as the No. 5 starter as a result. Webb has had an outstanding spring by throwing 11 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts and one walk.
Mar 14, 2021
Stays in rotation mix
Webb threw three scoreless innings with six strikeouts in Saturday's spring training win over Cleveland. He's thrown six scoreless innings this spring. "That's as good as I've ever seen his changeup look," manager Gabe Kapler told MLB.com. "I don't want to overdo it here, but he's been really impressive in this camp.
ANALYSIS
Webb is vying for the final spot in the starting rotation. While he's likely an underdog behind Alex Wood and Aaron Sanchez, there could be an opening early in the season as Wood is dealing with a stiff back and Sanchez is working his way back from shoulder surgery. Webb's K% and BB% took a step back last season amid an ugly 5.47 ERA, but he's showing positive signs this spring and is just 23.
Sep 26, 2020
Available out of bullpen
Webb will be available out of the bullpen for the Giants' final two games of the regular season, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb earned a win in his start Wednesday and won't be one of the team's two starters for the final pair of games in the regular season. However, the right-hander will be available in relief as the Giants battle for a spot in the playoffs. Should the team qualify for the postseason, he could remain in a bullpen role for the best-of-three Wild Card Series.
Sep 24, 2020
Earns third win
Webb (3-4) picked up the win against the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out one batter across 5.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old worked around a leadoff double allowed by Baragar in the second inning, finishing out the frame without any damage. His only blemishes on the night came from an RBI single to Trevor Story in the third and an RBI double to Raimel Tapia in the fifth. Otherwise Webb looked sharp, striking out only one batter but throwing 54 of 84 pitches for strikes. The right-hander finishes out the regular season with a 5.50 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 13 appearances (11 starts).
Sep 19, 2020
Knocked around for six runs
Webb (2-4) allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 3.1 innings in a loss to the A's on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The righty threw only 48 of 90 pitches for strikes and also plunked a batter. When he did put the ball in the zone, Webb was squared up, with the big blow being a three-run homer off the bat of Matt Olson in the third inning. Webb has shown flashes this season, but with a 5.73 ERA and 1.52 WHIP, he clearly still has a ways to go. He lines up to face the Rockies at home during the final week of the regular season.
Sep 13, 2020
Decent in Game 2
Webb allowed a run on four hits and a walk and struck out five over four innings in a no-decision in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader versus the Padres.
ANALYSIS
A Wil Myers solo shot in the second inning accounted for the lone run against Webb, who was covering for Kevin Gausman (elbow). Sunday was the first time Webb had allowed fewer than four runs in his last four starts. The 23-year-old has a 4.96 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 44 strikeouts through 45.1 innings this season. His next start is expected to be next weekend versus the Athletics.
Sep 13, 2020
Starting second game of twin bill
Webb is slated to start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Padres, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
After the first two games of the series in San Diego were cancelled, Webb looked like he wouldn't get the chance to pitch again until next week. However, he'll be back in the rotation on short notice Sunday, as Kevin Gausman won't be available to pitch the second game after being diagnosed with right elbow tightness. Since working a career-high seven frames in an Aug. 21 win over the Diamondbacks, Webb has posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 14 innings across his subsequent three starts.
Sep 9, 2020
No-decision Tuesday
Webb didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's contest between the Mariners and the Giants. He allowed five runs on six hits and three walks while fanning four across five innings.
ANALYSIS
Webb has posted back-to-back no-decisions, but he has allowed at least four runs without pitching six full innings in each of his last three starts. The right-hander has a 5.23 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP in 41.1 innings across nine starts this season, posting similar numbers to the ones he delivered in eight outings during the 2019 season.
Sep 7, 2020
Confirmed as Tuesday's starter
Webb will draw the start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb will remain on normal rest for the start, though it was unclear how the rotation would line up given the imminent of return of Drew Smyly (finger). Webb has maintained a 4.71 ERA and a 35:15 K:BB across 36.1 innings this season.
Sep 3, 2020
Unable to hold lead
Webb gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings during Wednesday's 9-6 loss at Colorado. He had five strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The offense staked him a four-run lead during the first inning, but the Rockies tallied two runs during the sixth inning to tied the score at 4-4 and end his afternoon. Webb has a 4.71 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB over 36.1 innings and lines up to face the Mariners on Tuesday.
Aug 27, 2020
Takes loss to Dodgers
Webb (2-3) took the loss in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks across 3.2 innings pitched. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Webb was coming off a strong outing in which he allowed just two runs in seven innings against the Diamondbacks, but he couldn't build off the performance when he faced the Dodgers on Thursday. The right-hander allowed a run in the first inning before temporarily settling in for scoreless frames in the second and third. However, a walk and three hits led to three more runs for Los Angeles in the fourth. Webb will look to bounce back as he takes a 4.35 ERA into his start against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Starting Game 1 of twin bill
Webb is starting Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Webb will start the first half of Thursday's twin bill, with Kevin Gausman set to start Game 2. The right-hander impressed his last time out, striking out eight batters while allowing two runs on five hits across seven innings.

Tosses seven strong frames
Webb (2-2) earned the win Friday against the Diamondbacks after tossing seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
Webb posted a season-high mark for strikeouts and managed to bounce back after a shaky outing in his previous start, in which he walked five in just 4.1 innings. Webb has a 8.6 K/9 this season but is also issuing 3.6 BB/9, so he should post even better numbers if he finds a way to limit the walks but seems to be in the right direction -- he has allowed one or fewer walks in three of his last four starts.

Walks five in shaky outing
Webb (1-2) allowed three runs on three hits and five walks over 4.1 innings Sunday, striking out five and taking the loss against Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Webb threw just 50-of-88 pitches for strikes Sunday as his control was never really there. Fortunately for him, he was lifted from the game before Oakland's offense caught fire with a nine-run fifth inning. The right-handed rookie will carry a 3.54 ERA into Friday's home matchup with Arizona.

Gets in jam in loss to Astros
Webb (1-1) took the loss Monday versus the Astros, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
The Giants committed three errors Monday, two of which came in the third inning during a four-run rally by the Astros. Webb can't be blamed for all the struggles, but he still needed 81 pitches to record 10 outs. The 23-year-old right-hander has a 2.81 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB in 16 innings this season. He's projected to start Sunday at home versus the Athletics.

In line for two step
Webb will start the Giants' series opener in Houston on Monday, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
After Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) and Drew Smyly (finger) moved to the injured list last week, Webb gained some added security in the rotation now that the Giants' starting pitching depth is being tested. The right-hander has posted a 2.13 ERA through his first three outings, but his lackluster peripherals (8.9 K-BB%, 4.08 FIP) suggests some regression could be headed his way. He'll at least have the opportunity to provide fantasy managers in weekly leagues with more value than usual, as Webb tentatively lines up for two starts this week. After Monday's outing, Webb will be on tap for a home start against the Athletics on Saturday or Sunday.

Beats Rockies for first win
Webb (1-0) was charged with two runs (one earned) on four hits over five innings in a win over the Rockies on Wednesday. He struck out four and did not issue a walk.
ANALYSIS
Tip of the cap to Webb, who went five innings in Coors Field without allowing an extra-base hit. He mostly struggled in his eight starts for the Giants last year, posting a 5.22 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over 39.2 innings, and has not reached even 80 pitches in a start this season (only 68 pitches Wednesday). Clearly manager Gabe Kapler wants to limit Webb's exposure to opposing lineups, and with that, it will be difficult for Webb to earn wins consistently. The right-hander lines up for a couple tough matchups next week (at HOU, vs. OAK).

Limits damage versus Rangers
Webb allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out four in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Webb was again generous with baserunners in his second start of the year, but mostly avoided any significant damage. He needed 79 pitches (44 strikes) to complete his short outing. The Giants were able to take him off the hook for the loss with a three-run fifth inning. Webb has a 2.35 ERA and 1.96 WHIP with six strikeouts in 7.2 innings so far. He's expected to face the Rockies on the road Wednesday.

Set for second start
Webb will start Friday against the Rangers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb limited the Dodgers to just a single run over four innings in his season debut. He threw just 70 pitches in that one, so he's unlikely to get close to 100 pitches this time around, but he should still be able to pitch fairly deep into the game.

Decent in short outing
Webb allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out two in four innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Webb needed 70 pitches (40 strikes) to get through his four innings, allowing just an RBI double to Justin Turner on the scoreboard. The 23-year-old Webb posted a 5.22 ERA in 39.2 innings last year. The right-hander is expected to face the Padres on Thursday for his next appearance, but it's unclear if he'll serve as a traditional starter or a primary pitcher in any of his outings in 2020.

Starting in Saturday's game
Webb will start in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants have had difficulty silencing the Dodgers' bats over the first two games of the season, and Webb will take the mound Saturday to see if he can get any results. The right-hander posted a 5.22 ERA and 1.46 WHIP over eight starts with the Giants last season.

Set for bulk innings
Webb is the leading candidate to be the Giants' de facto fifth starter, although the team is using the term "bulk-innings role", Mark W. Sanchez of KNBR.com reports. "We see him in a role for us to take multiple innings," manager Gabe Kapler said. "We'll try to build him up as much as possible to be able to lengthen him out. ... We're stressing to all our pitchers, not just Logan, the mindset of being flexible and getting built up as much as possible."
ANALYSIS
Buster Posey, who caught Webb's live batting practice session over the weekend said the righty's stuff was "electric" and that he was "a tick or two up from the spring." Webb has improved his arsenal and will no longer face an innings limit in a shortened season. However, manager Gabe Kapler was hesitant to use the word "starter", as the Giants stress flexible roles for their pitchers and don't expect any starter to go beyond four innings to start the season. Trevor Cahill, Tyler Anderson and Andrew Suarez are also competing for bulk innings behind the Giants' top four starters.

Could be helped by delay
Webb may benefit from the delayed start to the season, as he was likely facing an innings limit, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Webb is a candidate for the Giants' fifth rotation spot after making his major-league debut in 2019. However, he totaled just 103 innings across Triple-A and the big-leagues last season, meaning he likely won't be able to handle a full workload in 2020. However, with the possibility of a shortened season looming, Webb may have the opportunity to start for the entire campaign without restriction.

Will have start pushed back
Webb -- who was originally slated to pitch Tuesday against the Pirates -- will have his start moved back with Johnny Cueto (elbow) returning from the injured list for that contest, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants did not announce when Webb's next start will take place, nor whether his next appearance would even come as a starter. The rookie has been inconsistent through four starts (6.50 ERA with a 9.0 K/9), but his fellow young, back-end starters Dereck Rodriguez (5.15 ERA over 87.1 innings) and Tyler Beede (5.33 ERA over 101.1 innings) haven't fared much better. Expect the club to make an official announcement on the rotation in the coming days.
