Mark Vientos Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries with our Major League Baseball injury report.Sep 30, 2023
Heads
Vientos will be on the bench for the first half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Down the stretch of a lost season, Vientos has been given plenty of opportunities to stake his claim for a significant role next season, starting 18 consecutive games prior to this one. He homered five times over that stretch, but his .224/.257/.448 slash line (90 wRC+) wasn't exactly convincing. Brett Baty will be the designated hitter for the afternoon contest.
Sep 21, 2023
Homers twice in victory
Vientos went 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Vientos began the scoring in the contest with a solo shot in the second inning and added another solo blast in the sixth. This was the rookie's first multi-homer game of his big-league career -- he came into the contest with just six long balls over his first 236 plate appearances as a major leaguer. Vientos has demonstrated ample power in the minors, however, with 65 long balls over 245 minor-league games across the past three seasons.
Sep 17, 2023
Knocks three hits
Vientos went 3-for-4 with a run, one RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Vientos knocked an RBI single and swiped second base in the fifth inning and later scored a run in the seventh. It was the first three-hit game of his MLB career and his third multi-hit performance this month. Vientos is slashing .218/.262/.345 with 16 RBI through 187 plate appearances on the year but he's gone 15-for-50 (.300) over his last 14 games.
Sep 14, 2023
Swats homer in victory
Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 7-1 win against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Vientos took Arizona ace Zac Gallen deep for a two-run shot in the sixth inning, increasing New York's lead to 6-0. It was his second long ball through eight games in September and his fifth across 49 contests overall this season. During his time so far with the Mets, Vientos has yet to fully unlock the power he displayed in mashing 40 long balls across 162 games in the minors over the past two campaigns.
Sep 5, 2023
Back in action Tuesday
Vientos (foot) is batting fifth as the Mets' designated hitter Tuesday against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos hasn't seen game action since Saturday while dealing with a foot injury, but he'll rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Washinton. The 23-year-old is 5-for-10 with two solo homers in his past three games but still has a disappointing .586 OPS in 144 plate appearances this season.
Sep 3, 2023
Out Sunday with sore foot
Vientos (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Vientos will take a seat for the series finale after he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk before exiting Saturday's 8-7 loss with a sore right foot. The Mets will have Labor Day off, so Vientos will get two days to move past the foot injury before the team opens its two-game set in Washington on Tuesday.
Sep 2, 2023
Departs with sore foot
Vientos had to be lifted from Saturday's game versus the Mariners because of right foot soreness, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos evidently was bothered by a sore foot during his recent injured list stint with left wrist tendinitis and the foot issue flared up on him while running the bases Saturday. He'll be re-evaluated Sunday. Vientos cranked a solo home run and reached base three times Saturday before exiting.
Aug 30, 2023
Clubs third homer
Vientos went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie ruined a combined shutout bid for Texas by driving a 100.6 mph Aroldis Chapman fastball the other way to right-center field in the ninth inning. Vientos has started three straight games since recovering from a wrist injury and coming off the IL -- two at third base and one at DH -- but if Brett Baty (.298/.396/.649 at Triple-A since his demotion with a 21.6 percent strikeout rate) rejoins the roster in September, he could lose most of his playing time at the hot corner. Vientos has done little to show he deserves a regular spot in the lineup, slashing .195/.234/.305 over 137 plate appearances in the majors this season with three homers and 11 RBI.
Aug 27, 2023
Activated from injured list
The Mets activated Vientos (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Vientos will be back in action in Sunday's series finale against the Angels after missing exactly 10 days due to left wrist tendinitis. The 24-year-old has posted a disappointing .195/.230/.288 batting line across 126 major-league plate appearances this season, but he should play regularly down the stretch as the Mets look ahead to 2024 and beyond.
Aug 27, 2023
Expected back Sunday
Vientos (wrist) is expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos played a rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday and it's apparently the only one he will need. The rookie infielder has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis. He had been seeing regular action at third base before the injury and should return to playing most every day.
Aug 26, 2023
Begins rehab assignment
Vientos (wrist) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos doubled, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs while playing all 10 innings at third base in his first rehab game. He is eligible for activation Saturday and it sounds like rejoining the Mets is imminent. Vientos has been out since mid-August with left wrist tendinitis.
Aug 17, 2023
Goes on IL with sore wrist
Vientos was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Aug. 16, with left wrist inflammation, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Imaging scans taken Wednesday showed no structural damage, but Vientos will rest his wrist for at least the next nine days. Jonathan Arauz and Danny Mendick will likely share time at third base in his absence. Arauz is getting the start there in the Mets' series opener Thursday against the Cardinals.
Aug 17, 2023
Out again with sore wrist
Vientos (wrist) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's series opener at St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Vientos missed Wednesday's series finale against the Pirates due to left wrist discomfort, but an MRI showed only inflammation and it seems like he'll be able to avoid the injured list. Jonathan Arauz is covering third base for the Mets on Thursday against the Cardinals. Daniel Vogelbach will fill the DH role.
Aug 16, 2023
Nursing wrist inflammation
Vientos underwent an MRI on his left wrist which revealed inflammation, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos was pinch-hit for in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates because his wrist was bothering him and he's not in the lineup Wednesday. It appears he's avoided a serious injury, though, providing hope that he'll be able to return to action at some point during the weekend series against the Cardinals.
Aug 16, 2023
Steps out of starting nine
Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Jonathan Arauz will get the nod at third base for the series finale while Vientos gets a breather following a stretch of 10 consecutive starts. Though Vientos has taken hold of an everyday role in the aftermath of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, he's provided little value for fantasy managers. On the month, Vientos is hitting just .154 with no home runs, two RBI, one run and no stolen bases in 14 games.
Aug 7, 2023
Clear runway at third base
Vientos is expected to serve as the Mets' everyday third baseman after Brett Baty was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he's serving as the Mets' designated hitter and No. 5 batter Monday against Cubs southpaw Drew Smyly, Vientos looks poised to see the bulk of the starts at third base versus right-handed pitching while Daniel Vogelbach handles DH duties for those matchups. Known more for his prowess with the bat while he was coming up the Mets' farm system, Vientos may not have the defensive chops to stick at third base in the long term, but the non-contending Mets will at least use the next few weeks as a test run to see if he can hold his own at the position.
Aug 6, 2023
Staking claim to everyday role
Vientos will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Vientos will stick in the starting nine for the fifth time in six games and is slashing .257/.289/.429 in 11 games overall since he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on July 20. With the 50-60 Mets effectively removing themselves from the National League wild-card race, the 23-year-old Vientos will likely to continue to poach work from the 30-year-old Daniel Vogelbach as the organization prioritizes the development of some of its younger players.
Jul 30, 2023
Finding groove at plate
Vientos went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
The rookie took Andres Machado deep in the ninth inning for a solo shot after ripping an RBI double in the second. Vientos has started five of the last seven games -- three at DH and two at third base -- and he figures to keep a near-everyday role after Tuesday's trade deadline, especially if the Mets ship out players like Tommy Pham and Mark Canha. Vientos is earning that playing time, hitting .333 (7-for-21) since his most recent promotion with two doubles and a homer, but his 1:7 BB:K over that seven-game stretch suggests his batting average will fade even if his power is legit.
Jul 26, 2023
Batting second Wednesday
Vientos is starting at third base and batting second Wednesday versus the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
This is the highest major-league lineup spot of the year for Vientos, who has gone 4-for-10 with a double since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse last Thursday. Brett Baty continues to struggle offensively and the underperforming Mets might move some parts at the trade deadline, so Vientos could perhaps be in for an elevated role down the stretch.
Jul 20, 2023
Recalled from Syracuse
The Mets recalled Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Starling Marte (head) headed for the injured list Thursday, Vientos will come up from Triple-A to fill Marte's roster spot. Vientos holds a 1.000 OPS in Syracuse but is slashing just .173/.244/.259 across 90 plate appearances in the majors throughout his career.
Jun 18, 2023
Sent to Triple-A
Vientos was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old appeared in just two of the Mets past six games and will now head back to Triple-A with Pete Alonso (wrist) making his return from the injured list. Vientos played in just 16 games during his month-long stint in the majors and had a .178/.224/.244 slash line in 49 plate appearances. He'll attempt to get back in track with Syracuse, where he had a 1.104 OPS prior to his promotion.
Jun 16, 2023
Not in Friday's lineup
Vientos is absent from the lineup for Friday's tilt versus the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Mark Canha is playing first base and Daniel Vogelbach is at designated hitter for the series opener against St. Louis. Vientos has just a .469 OPS in 16 games with the big club this season.
Jun 13, 2023
On bench Tuesday
Vientos is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Tommy Pham will serve as the Mets' designated hitter and Mark Canha will cover first base in the opening game of the Subway Series. Brett Baty is at third. Vientos, 23, has slashed just .167/.200/.238 in 15 games (45 plate appearances) since being called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 17.
Jun 9, 2023
Playing time opening up
Vientos went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Thursday's 13-10 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start at first base and batting ninth, Vientos' rookie struggles continued, and he's now batting .162 (6-for-37) through his first 13 big-league games this season with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate. Pete Alonso (wrist) was placed on the injured list Friday, however, potentially pushing Vientos into a near-everyday role. The 23-year-old was slashing .333/.416/.688 at Triple-A Syracuse prior to his promotion, and while he won't replace Alonso's elite power, Vientos could begin to find some success at the plate with more consistent playing time.
Jun 6, 2023
On bench Tuesday
Vientos is absent from the lineup Tuesday versus Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Vogelbach will serve as the Mets' designated hitter and bat fifth with right-hander Bryce Elder on the bump for the current NL East leaders. Brett Baty is playing third base and batting seventh. Vientos carried a lot of hype when he first got the call to the bigs in mid-May, but he's slashing just .188/.206/.281 through his first 34 major-league plate appearances.
Jun 2, 2023
Starting versus righty
Vientos is serving as the designated hitter and batting seventh Friday versus the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Vientos gets the nod here over Daniel Vogelbach, even with right-hander Chris Bassitt on the mound for Toronto. Maybe it's a sign that the 23-year-old will be in for more of an everyday role with the Mets moving forward. He's primarily been limited to starts against lefties since being recalled May 17 from Triple-A Syracuse.
May 31, 2023
Not in lineup
Vientos is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
With right-hander Aaron Nola toeing the slab for the Phils, Mets manager Buck Showalter will roll with Daniel Vogelbach in the designated hitter spot. Vientos has started seven of 13 games since his recall, with three of those coming against righties.
May 26, 2023
Out of lineup Friday
Vientos isn't starting Friday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
After a hot start to the season, Vientos has quickly cooled off and will now miss his third consecutive start. Daniel Vogelbach will serve as the Mets' designated hitter Friday and bat seventh.
May 25, 2023
On bench again Thursday
Vientos is out of the starting lineup again Thursday versus the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Vientos has now started only four of a possible eight games since his May 17 promotion from Triple-A Syracuse. Daniel Vogelbach will handle DH duties and bat seventh Thursday against the Cubs and right-hander Kyle Hendricks. Brett Baty is at third base and batting fifth.
May 24, 2023
Absent from lineup
Vientos is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos has now started four games and been on the bench three times since his promotion a week ago. All three times he's been out of the lineup have been against righties, and Daniel Vogelbach has been the designated hitter in each case as he will be Wednesday.
May 21, 2023
On bench for matinee
Vientos is out of the lineupfor Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Vientos is 2-for-8 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in two games since being promoted Wednesday, and he'll step out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's twin bill. Daniel Vogelbach will serve as the designated hitter versus Cleveland righty Tanner Bibee.
May 18, 2023
Not in lineup Thursday
Vientos is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Vientos slugged a two-run homer Wednesday in his season debut with the Mets, building on his blistering start to the year at Triple-A Syracuse, but he'll head to the bench for Thursday's series finale at Citi Field against the visiting Rays. Brett Baty is covering third base and Pete Alonso is at first. Daniel Vogelbach will be the DH.
May 18, 2023
Homers in 2023 debit
Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Rays in an extra-inning win Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Vientos was called up from Triple-A Syracuse prior to the contest and provided a big spark in his first major-league game of the campaign, putting the Mets on the board with a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh inning. The long ball was the second of his big-league career, as he went deep once over 36 at-bats with the Mets last season. Vientos was dominating in the minors this year prior to his call-up, slashing .333/.416/.688 with 11 doubles, 13 homers and 37 RBI over 166 plate appearances.
May 17, 2023
Officially recalled from minors
Vietos was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The move which had been reported earlier Wednesday is now official. Vientos earned the promotion by putting together a 1.104 OPS with 13 home runs across 166 plate appearances at Syracuse. He might initially only start against lefties but could certainly play his way into an everyday role. Vientos is worth an add in deeper fantasy leagues.
May 17, 2023
Hits way to majors
The Mets plan to recall Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse prior to Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com
ANALYSIS
New York is hoping the 23-year-old can provide a lift to a sputtering lineup, as Vientos had been one of the top performers in the International League this season with a 1.104 OPS, 11.9 percent walk rate and 20.5 percent strikeout rate over 166 plate appearances. The slugger could initially serve as a short-side platoon option at third base or designated hitter, though it wouldn't be surprising if he eventually eclipsed Daniel Vogelbach as the Mets' preferred option at designated hitter. Vogelbach has drawn walks at a prolific rate (16.8 percent) this season but is offering little power production (.119 ISO), an element the Mets could desperately use in their lineup.
Apr 19, 2023
Continuing to rake at Triple-A
Vientos is slashing .364/.446/.764 through 15 games with Triple-A Syracuse to begin the season with four doubles, six home runs, 14 runs and 17 RBI.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old nearly slugged his way onto the big-league roster this spring, and Vientos has carried over his hot hitting into the regular season. Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty have already been promoted to the Mets' roster, but it might take an injury to one of the team's 1B/DH options for Vientos to join them in New York despite his impressive production.
Mar 25, 2023
Optioned to Syracuse
Vientos was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Vientos appeared to have a good chance to win a bench spot with the Mets out of the Grapefruit League, but the 23-year-old will begin the season in the International League. He could be an option for New York if there's an injury or if New York is looking for offense in the summer months; particularly against left-handed pitching.
Mar 14, 2023
In mix for bench spot
Vientos could open the season on the 26-man roster if Darin Ruf gets placed on the injured list due to his sore wrist, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Ruf has done little in a Mets uniform since being picked up from the Giants last season, and his sore wrist has limited him to only 13 plate appearances so far this spring, in which he's managed two hits and struck out five times. Vientos, meanwhile, has gone 11-for-36 (.308) with three doubles and two homers, although his 1:14 BB:K is a giant red flag that he isn't going to maintain that kind of batting average for very long. The 23-year-old would also offer more defensive versatility in a bench role than Ruf. The veteran slugger still has some time left this spring to prove his wrist is 100 percent and re-establish himself as a right-handed platoon option, but if the Mets decide to shut him down, Vientos appears to be the most likely candidate to benefit.
Mar 5, 2023
Clubs two homers Saturday
Vientos went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Getting the start at third base and hitting second in the order, Vientos launched a two-run shot off minor-league reliever Justin Evans in the fourth inning before taking potential Miami closer Dylan Floro deep in the fifth for a three-run blast, with both homers being no-doubters to straightaway center field. Vientos doesn't appear to have much of a chance at winning the starting job at the hot corner for Opening Day with both Eduardo Escobar and Brett Baty ahead of him in the pecking order, but he's doing what he can to win a spot on the big-league bench -- the 23-year-old prospect has gone 7-for-21 to begin his spring, with four of the hits (two doubles plus Saturday's home runs) going for extra bases.
Oct 7, 2022
Misses wild-card roster
Vientos is absent from the Mets' roster for the NL Wild Card Series against the Padres on Friday, Deesha Thosar of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos made his big-league debut Sept. 11 and won't be included on New York's roster to open the playoffs. He played in 16 games down the stretch and had a .167/.268/.278 slash line with one home run and three RBI.
Sep 25, 2022
Hits first career homer
Vientos went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a 10-4 loss to the Athletics on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Vientos hit his first major-league home run on a 3-1 offering from Ken Waldichuk to tie the game. The 22-year-old rookie third baseman is slashing .167/.286/.333 in 24 big league at-bats.
Sep 11, 2022
Hitting eighth in debut
Vientos will serve as the designated hitter and hit eighth Sunday in his big-league debut.
ANALYSIS
Vientos did not see action Saturday after being called up for the first time, but he will make his first start as a major leaguer in the final game of the Mets' series against the Marlins.
Sep 10, 2022
Earns first career call-up
Vientos was called up for the first time by the Mets on Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Contact concerns may ultimately prevent Vientos from making the most of his considerable power, but he hits the ball hard enough that he may be able to find success despite the whiffs. That's been the case for him in 101 games for Triple-A Syracuse this year, as he's struck out 28.6 percent of the time but still managed to hit .280/.358/.519 with 24 homers. He isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins but could earn at-bats at third base or designated hitter down the stretch, especially against lefties.
Sep 6, 2022
Scratched with headache
Vientos was scratched from Triple-A Syracuse's lineup Tuesday due to a headache, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Rumors of a call-up began to surface after Vientos was scratched from Tuesday's lineup, but he just experienced a headache during batting practice. The 21-year-old is one of New York's top prospects and has a .282/.359/.523 slash line with 23 home runs and 73 RBI at Triple-A this year, but the organization has yet to promote him for his first taste of the big leagues.
Jun 14, 2022
Active at Triple-A
Vientos (knee) returned from Triple-A Syracuse's 7-day injured list Sunday and went 1-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in the club's 10-1 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
ANALYSIS
Vientos is back in action after missing a week and a half due to knee discomfort. The 2017 second-round pick is slashing .248/.331/.482 with eight home runs through his 160 plate appearances with Syracuse this season.
Jun 4, 2022
Managing knee discomfort
Vientos was scratched from Friday's lineup at Triple-A Syracuse due to knee discomfort, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos has been productive in Syracuse since the start of May, slashing .320/.400/.600 with six home runs, three doubles, 14 runs and 14 RBI over 20 games during that time. The team doesn't sound too concerned about the 22-year-old's knee issue, so he should tentatively be considered day-to-day.
May 14, 2022
Flashing power
Vientos has gone 8-for-22 (.364) over his last six games for Triple-A Syracuse with four home runs and seven RBI.
ANALYSIS
The Mets' No. 2 fantasy prospect has a brutal start to the season at Syracuse, but he seems to be finding his groove. Strikeouts remain an issue for Vientos -- he's fanned seven times in those six games, and has a 30.0 percent strikeout rate through 100 plate appearances on the year -- but his .212/.320/.459 slash line will rise quickly with an extended hot streak, and he did post a .282/.354/.584 line between Syracuse and Double-A Binghamton over 83 games in 2021 with 25 homers.
May 5, 2022
Scuffling in Triple-A
Vientos is hitting just .167/.282/.303 with one homer across 21 games so far this season for Triple-A Syracuse.
ANALYSIS
After he hit 25 homers in just 83 games across Double-A and Triple-A last year, expectations were high for Vientos entering this season, but he simply hasn't delivered so far. If there's a bright side to be scraped from his stats, it's that he's drawn six walks in his last six games -- a big improvement from the four he managed in the first 15 -- but the 22-year-old's prospect luster has always stemmed from his massive raw power, and that's simply been missing in action. He's striking out at a career-high clip (32.1 percent), and his 66.7 percent groundball rate as well as his 23.1 percent flyball rate are well out of line with his career norms. It sure is hard to hit the ball over the fence often when you're hitting it on the ground two-thirds of the time. The good news is that Vientos has a lengthy minor-league track record of elevating the ball, so look for him to tweak his swing and get back to what he does best.
Mar 21, 2022
Moves to minor-league camp
Vientos was optioned to minor-league camp Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos got to spend some time in big-league camp as a member of the 40-man roster, but he's not quite ready to push for an active roster spot. He's only played 11 Triple-A games, but he could make his case for a promotion with a strong start at that level this season.
Nov 19, 2021
Rewarded with 40-man roster spot
Vientos was added to the Mets' 40-man roster Friday, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos seems to get overshadowed at times by Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio, but he's probably going to beat them to the majors and he has big-time power potential. His strikeout rate will likely always be a little high, but he could hit 30-plus home runs if he can make contact at a passable clip.
Sep 6, 2021
Reaches Triple-A
Vientos was promoted to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
Vientos' only particularly notable tool is his power, but he's shown enough of that to be one of the Mets' top prospects. In 72 games for Double-A Binghamton this season, he's hit .281/.346/.580 with 22 homers. His 28.4 percent strikeout rate is potentially cause for concern, as striking out that much at that level could indicate that he'll whiff an untenable amount by the time he gets to the big leagues, but he has enough pop to offset a fairly high amount of strikeouts.
Aug 21, 2021
Back in action at Double-A
Vientos (undisclosed) rejoined the Double-A Binghamton lineup Monday after a two-week absence and has gone 3-for-12 with a home run, a walk and two RBI in his first three games back in action.
ANALYSIS
Binghamton never officially placed Vientos on the 7-day injured list, but he was believed to be inactive as a result of COVID-19-related protocols. The 21-year-old didn't take long to make an impact in his return, homering in his second start back with the Rumble Ponies. Vientos is hitting .280 with 21 home runs and 54 RBI in 65 games on the campaign.
Aug 13, 2021
Could be on COVID-19 list
Vientos has not played since Aug. 3 for Double-A Binghamton after being removed from that game due to "health and safety protocols", Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mets have not released any updates about Vientos since, so the logical conclusion given the length of his absence is a positive test for COVID-19. The 21-year-old is having a strong campaign at Double-A, slashing .279/.350/.601 through 62 games with 20 homers and a 24:73 BB:K, and he's seen time at both first base and left field in addition to his usual spot at the hot corner with fellow third-base prospect Brett Baty also on the roster for Binghamton.
Jul 30, 2021
Goes yard twice for Binghamton
Vientos went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs for Double-A Binghamton on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old has been producing a lot of souvenirs lately, slugging eight of his 20 homers on the season over the last 18 games while slashing .273/.347/.682. Vientos remains on track for a potential 2022 big-league debut, particularly if he adapts well to a flexible defensive role -- he's played 10 games each at first base and in left field this season for Binghamton in addition to his regular work at the hot corner.
Jul 15, 2021
Flashing power in Double-A
Vientos is hitting .277/.348/.588 with 14 homers, 40 RBI and 28 runs across 48 games for Double-A Binghamton.
ANALYSIS
The 21-year-old third baseman has a lot of swing-and-miss in his game -- that 29.4 percent strikeout rate is a little scary -- but he's also improved his walk rate to 9.0 percent, which is promising. Just as importantly, he's shown off a major increase in power, nearly doubling his ISO from .156 in 2019 to a startling .311 this year. Since the Mets have another promising third-base prospect in Brett Baty and Vientos isn't exactly known for his fielding acumen, he's been getting some reps in left field, too. Whatever position he lands at, Vientos will probably hit enough home runs to be a viable fantasy asset, though he'll probably never be a .300 hitter.
