Will not require surgery
Lodolo will not require surgery on his injured left tibia, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
He is, however, done for the season, as previously reported. Lodolo finished the 2023 campaign having thrown just 34.1 innings with the Reds, collecting a 6.29 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB. The upside with the southpaw will remain heading into 2024, but he'll have to show he's healthy.
Aug 31, 2023
Done for rest of year
Lodolo (tibia) was ruled out Thursday for the remainder of the 2023 season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's rather unsurprising news after Lodolo suffered a second stress reaction in his left tibia last week while making a rehab start for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. The 25-year-old left-hander finishes the season with a 2-1 record, 6.29 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB in just seven major-league starts covering 34.1 innings.
Aug 25, 2023
Pulled off rehab assignment
Lodolo (tibia) has officially been pulled off his rehab assignment, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo suffered another stress reaction in his left tibia during his third rehab start with Triple-A Louisville on Sunday, which is the same injury that has kept him out for the bulk of the season. While no timetable has been established, it seems unlikely at this point that he'll be able to make it back before the end of the regular season.
Aug 22, 2023
Suffers setback with left tibia
Lodolo was diagnosed Tuesday with another stress reaction in his left tibia and is out indefinitely, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo suffered the setback while making his third minor-league rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Louisville, and it's the same exact injury that has kept him on the shelf since early May. He's seeking a second medical opinion and the Reds aren't commenting further, but the 25-year-old southpaw now seems questionable to return to the major-league rotation before the end of the 2023 regular season.
Aug 22, 2023
Hits 61 pitches in rehab start
Lodolo (tibia) tossed 2.1 innings and struck out three while giving up two earned runs on three hits and three walks in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Louisville.
ANALYSIS
After covering three scoreless innings in the second start of his rehab assignment Aug. 15, Lodolo retired two fewer hitters Sunday but still threw 12 more pitches (61, 34 for strikes) than he had in his previous outing (49). The Reds would have likely wanted to see a more efficient performance from Lodolo, but the young lefty might have done enough to make his next start with the big club. With a postponement Monday creating a doubleheader Wednesday, the Reds are beginning a stretch of six games in five days, and the pitching-strapped club could be willing to bring Lodolo back from the 60-day injured list later this week even though he's not yet fully stretched out for a traditional starter's workload. If the Reds opt against activating Lodolo this week, he would likely need just one more rehab start before getting cleared to rejoin the big club.
Aug 18, 2023
Aces second rehab start
Lodolo (tibia) struck out six over three scoreless innings while making his second rehab start Tuesday at Double-A Chattanooga. He allowed no hits and walked two in the 49-pitch appearance.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has now allowed just one hit while striking out 10 across five innings through two rehab starts, the first of which came last week in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The southpaw took the hill Tuesday on three days' rest, but he'll receive the standard four days off before making his next start Sunday at Triple-A Louisville, per MLB.com. If Lodolo is able to build up his pitch count into the 60-to-75 range Sunday and escapes the outing unscathed, he could return from the 60-day injured list to make his next start with the Reds during the team's series in Arizona the following weekend.
Aug 15, 2023
Moves rehab to Double-A
Lodolo (lower leg) shifted his rehab assignment Tuesday from the Arizona Complex League to Double-A Chattanooga.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo looked sharp in his rehab debut this past Friday in the rookie-level ACL, striking out four of the seven batters he faced across two scoreless innings. Out since early May because of a stress reaction in his left tibia, the 25-year-old southpaw is currently trending toward a late-August return to the Cincinnati rotation. Hunter Greene (hip) is also making progress on the farm.
Aug 11, 2023
Rehabbing in rookie ball
Lodolo (lower leg) began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo will begin rehabbing in rookie ball before progressing his way up the minors to face tougher competition. The 25-year-old lefty put up a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over 34.1 innings across seven starts and is expected to return to the Reds' rotation before the end of August.
Aug 5, 2023
Bullpen session coming
Lodolo (lower leg) will throw another bullpen session Monday, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
If all goes well Monday, Lodolo is expected to throw two innings the following Friday, presumably as part of a simulated game. The left-hander's condition has improved over the last 10 days, and the Reds moved up his expected return date to late August.
Jul 28, 2023
Return date moved up
Lodolo (lower leg) threw a side session Friday and is now targeting a return in late August, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Reds manager David Bell had previously suggested Lodolo wouldn't be an option for the big-league club until September. However, the lefty has moved his estimated return date up with his progress since shedding his walking boot. Lodolo still has hurdles to clear before he heads out on a rehab assignment, but teammate Hunter Greene (hip) is targeting an Aug. 20 return and it sounds like Lodolo won't be far behind provided he avoids a setback.
Jul 26, 2023
Likely out until September
Lodolo (lower leg) is not expected to be an option for the Reds until September, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo did throw a bullpen session Tuesday, which was the first time he's thrown off a mound since he went down with a left tibia stress reaction in early May. He's just now ramping back up after a long layoff, though, and it's going to take a while to rebuild stamina. "That's kind of how I've been thinking about it. It's a little bit tough because there hasn't been a calendar yet," Bell said earlier in July when asked if September was a realistic return date for Lodolo. "That seems right to me."
Jul 15, 2023
Out of boot
Lodolo (lower leg) shed his walking boot and is playing catch, MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo had been throwing from a stool before removing the boot and is now on his feet playing catch. The left-hander arrived at Cincinnati's training complex in Goodyear (Ariz.) on July 3 to begin a throwing program. Reds manager David Bell said Lodolo is taking it slow and will likely return some time after fellow starter Hunter Greene (hip), who is expected to return early August.
Jun 30, 2023
Beginning rehab program
Lodolo (lower leg) will begin a rehab program in Arizona on Monday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo showed improvement in an MRI on Wednesday, and he's been cleared to take off his walking boot in the next few days to begin rehab. There isn't much clarity regarding his return, but Lodolo still isn't expected back until at least August. The 25-year-old lefty held a 6.29 ERA and 1.75 WHIP through 34.1 innings before getting hurt.
Jun 14, 2023
Won't return until August
Lodolo (leg) received encouraging results from his MRI on Wednesday, but he won't be able to return until early August at the earliest, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo is still in a walking boot from the stress reaction he suffered in his left tibia. The left-hander will miss at least another six weeks while he recovers, and the Reds will take plenty of precaution with the 25-year-old before he returns to the mound.
Jun 3, 2023
Transferred to 60-day IL
Cincinnati transferred Lodolo (leg) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo remains in a protective walking boot more than two weeks after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left tibia. This move to the 60-day IL means he'll be out until at least mid-July.
Jun 1, 2023
Remains in walking boot
Reds manager David Bell said Thursday that Lodolo (leg) will remain in a walking boot for the next two weeks, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
This update from Bell stems from a scheduled two-week checkup on the stress reaction in Lodolo's left tibia. There's no timetable yet for when he might resume throwing, and it's safe to say now that it won't happen before mid-June. With the buildup required once he does finally pick up a baseball again, the 25-year-old left-hander can probably be ruled out until sometime around the All-Star break.
May 17, 2023
MRI shows tibia stress reaction
An MRI on Lodolo's left leg revealed a stress reaction in his tibia, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo is in a walking boot and will be re-evaluated with another MRI in two weeks. The left-hander has been dealing with a nagging issue with his leg since spring training and finally went on the injured list over the weekend. It's now looking like it will be a lengthy absence.
May 14, 2023
Heads to 15-day injured list
Cincinnati placed Lodolo on the 15-day injured list Sunday with left calf tendinosis, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was scratched from his start Saturday due to trouble with his left calf, and an examination back in Cincinnati revealed the tendinosis. He'll miss at least two weeks while recovering with a chance for the southpaw to return to the Reds' rotation near the start of June if everything goes well in recovery.
May 13, 2023
Scratched from Saturday's start
Lodolo has been scratched from his scheduled start Saturday in Miami and will return to Cincinnati to receive further evaluation of his lingering ankle/calf injury, Jim Day of Bally Sports Cincinnati reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Day, Lodolo's injury has bothered him off and on since spring training and initially resulted in the Reds pushing his start back from Thursday to Saturday. With Lodolo continuing to experience discomfort despite getting an extra two days of rest, he'll now get a checkup as the Reds look to glean more information on the extent of the injury. Levi Stoudt was scratched from his scheduled start at Triple-A Louisville on Friday and is en route to Miami, so he would presumably be in line to make a spot start in place of Lodolo on Saturday if he arrives at the ballpark with enough time to warm up prior to the game's 1:10 p.m. ET start time.
May 10, 2023
Confirmed to start Saturday
Lodolo (calf) is listed as the Reds' probable starting pitcher for Saturday's game against the Marlins.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo had been in line to start Thursday's series finale with the Mets at Great American Ball Park, but he'll instead make his next turn through the rotation in Miami after the Reds opted to push him back two days in the pitching schedule while he managed a sore left calf. Provided Lodolo doesn't have any setbacks while he likely throws a bullpen session Thursday, he shouldn't face any restrictions Saturday as he prepares for his eighth start of the 2023 campaign.
May 9, 2023
Next start pushed back
Lodolo's next start has been pushed back from Thursday to Saturday due to left calf soreness, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo will get a couple extra days of rest -- and treatment for the calf issue -- after struggling in his last turn through the Reds' rotation Saturday against the White Sox. He's now set to face the Marlins instead of the Mets with this alteration. Ben Lively, called up from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, seems likely to start in Lodolo's place Thursday versus New York.
May 6, 2023
Gets pulled early
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 3.2 innings against the White Sox. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was unable to make it through the fourth inning Saturday, marking his shortest outing of the season. Once again, he was plagued by the long ball, giving up solo homers to Hanser Alberto and Seby Zavala prior to exiting. Lodolo has now given up multiple home runs in four straight starts while only pitching more than five frames once in seven appearances. Though Lodolo has shown excellent strikeout stuff (12.32 K/9), his fantasy value is capped by his pitiful 2.64 HR/9 and 6.29 ERA.
May 1, 2023
Strikes out seven
Lodolo allowed three runs on five hits over five-plus innings during Sunday's loss to Oakland. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was in line for his third win before the Reds' bullpen coughed up the lead. It was his first start of the year without issuing a walk and he improved his season K:BB to 44:9 through 30.2 frames. Lodolo was once again cursed by the long ball Sunday; the three runs against him came on two homers, including Jesus Aguilar's two-run shot in the first inning. Lodolo didn't allow a home run in his first two starts but has been taken deep eight times in his last four outings.
Apr 25, 2023
Strikes out six in no-decision
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over four innings in a 7-6 victory over Texas. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
After being spotted a one-run lead after the first inning, Lodolo was tagged for three runs in the second, two runs in the third and one run in the fourth, but he was let off the hook for the loss after the Reds made a late-inning comeback. The left-hander has allowed six-plus runs in back-to-back starts, but he still has a strong 37:9 K:BB through 25.2 innings.
Apr 18, 2023
Struggles in loss
Lodolo (2-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing eight runs on 12 hits and one walk over 4.2 innings in a 10-0 loss to the Rays. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo had no answer for the Rays' on Tuesday, allowing 12 hits, including three home runs, en route to his first loss of the season. The young left-hander's ERA balloons from 2.12 to 4.98 after the rough outing. Lodolo has a 31:7 K:BB and 1.71 WHIP through 21.2 innings this season. He's currently lined up to make his next start at home against Texas, where he'll look to get back on track.
Apr 14, 2023
Secures second win of season
Lodolo (2-0) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings in a 6-2 win over the Phillies. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has now allowed just four earned runs in 17 innings this season, good for a 2.12 ERA. While that figure will likely increase as the season goes on, the former first-round draft pick has lived up to the billing so far. Next up is a home tilt against the undefeated Rays on Tuesday.
Apr 8, 2023
Punches out career-high 12
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings against the Phillies. He struck out 12.
ANALYSIS
The bullpen squandered the lead in the ninth, but Lodolo was at his most dominant yet as a big leaguer. He set the tone early, striking out the side in the first inning, and finished with 20 called strikes and 15 swinging strikes on 106 total pitches. Lodolo talked after his first start about how his changeup was coming along, and it's looking like a real weapon for him to complement his fastball and stellar curveball. The lefty has a 1.50 ERA and 21:4 K:BB through two starts (12 innings).
Apr 1, 2023
Fans nine in win
Lodolo (1-0) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The lefty had trouble putting hitters away in the first inning, needing 35 pitches to get through the frame. Lodolo settled in from there and racked up an impressive 22 swinging strikes on 109 total pitches. He threw his changeup more and noted after the game that he had been working on the change and felt he found the pitch late in spring training. If the changeup comes along, Lodolo could break out. He is already looking like a big part of the Reds' future.
Mar 9, 2023
To serve as No. 2 starter
Reds manager David Bell said Thursday that Lodolo will start the second game of the 2023 regular season, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
No surprise here after Hunter Greene was named the team's Opening Day starter on Thursday afternoon. Lodolo and Greene will aim to form an exciting one-two punch for the up-and-coming rotation in Cincinnati, with Graham Ashcraft possibly adding a third jab to the equation. Lodolo, 25, recorded a 3.66 ERA with a 131 strikeouts across his first 103.1 big-league innings in 2022.
Mar 1, 2023
Adjusting to pitch clock
Lodolo threw two scoreless innings in his spring training debut against the Dodgers, but struggled at times to adjust to the pitch clock, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "Biggest thing was the pitch clock," Lodolo said. "Once or twice it got me there. I think it was in the stretch in the first inning, I was like, 'I got four seconds, we've got to go.'"
ANALYSIS
Lodolo came into the outing wanting to work on his changeup, but at times his competitive juices took over and he didn't remember until the second inning to work on that pitch. You can expect to hear similar reports about other pitchers, especially at the beginning of spring training.
Oct 2, 2022
Allows one run over five
Lodolo did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and five walks over five innings against the Cubs. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was able to keep the Cubs at bay for the most part over five innings, with the only damage coming in the second inning, courtesy of an RBI triple from Nelson Velazquez. The left-hander also walked three batters in the inning and his five walks on the afternoon were a season-high. Lodolo has now allowed only one run in each of his last two starts
Sep 25, 2022
Fans six in no-decision
Lodolo allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out six in six innings of a 2-1 win over Milwaukee. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
All four hits against Lodolo came in the second inning with the big blow being a solo homer by Hunter Renfroe on the first pitch on the frame. Over his final four innings, he retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced and ended the outing by striking out the side in the sixth. The 24-year-old has proven he belongs in the big leagues over his last eight starts, compiling a 2.84 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 62:10 K:BB in 50.2 innings. His next, and perhaps final, start of the season will likely come next weekend in Chicago against the Cubs.
Sep 20, 2022
Beans three Beantown batters
Lodolo (4-7) took the loss Tuesday against Boston, allowing three runs on three hits, three walks and three hit batsmen while striking out seven in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo allowed one run in each of his last three innings, including solo homers to Rob Refsnyder and J.D. Martinez. He hit three batters Tuesday to bring his season total up to 18 in 92.1 innings. Since the All-Star break, he's compiled a 3.14 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 82:21 K:BB in 66 innings across 11 starts. His next start will likely be early next week in Pittsburgh.
Sep 15, 2022
Piling up strikeouts
Lodolo (4-6) allowed three earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out 11 across 6.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was stuck with the loss after allowing a three-run home to Rodolfo Castro in the third inning. However, Lodolo was very impressive, racking up 16 swinging strikes on 102 total pitches while also inducing five groundball outs. He's shown an impressive ability to rack up strikeouts across his last three starts and 20.1 innings by punching out 31 hitters. In that same span, he's allowed only five earned runs. For the season, Lodolo has a 3.81 ERA with a 113:31 K:BB across 87.1 frames.
Sep 10, 2022
Strikes out 11 batters
Lodolo (4-5) earned the win against the Brewers on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out 11 and walking none across eight innings.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo limited the damage to just two runs on five hits after tossing 71 of 107 pitches for strikes across eight frames. This was one of Lodolo's best performances of the season, his first with double-digit strikeouts. The lefty has pitched well in his last five starts, picking up four quality starts while giving up nine runs in 33.1 innings for a 2.57 ERA. During that span, Lodolo has lowered his season ERA from 4.72 to where it sits now at a more palatable 3.78.
Sep 4, 2022
Settles for no-decision in matinee
Lodolo allowed two hits and a walk while striking out nine in six scoreless innings during the loss to the Rockies in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader. He didn't factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo started a day later than anticipated after Saturday's matchup was postponed, but he had a strong showing after giving up seven runs in 12.1 innings over his last two outings. However, the southpaw was forced to settle for an unlucky no-decision since the Reds' bullpen struggled late in the game. Lodolo has struck out at least five batters in each of his last five starts, and he's posted a 3.30 ERA in 30 innings over that stretch. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Milwaukee on Friday.
Sep 3, 2022
Saturday's game postponed
Lodolo will no longer start Saturday against the Rockies as the game has been postponed due to rain, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The game was delayed for nearly four hours before it was ultimately called off. It will be made up right away Sunday as part of a traditional doubleheader, and Lodolo figures to simply move back to start one end of the twin bill.
Aug 28, 2022
Coughs up three runs
Lodolo (3-5) yielded three runs on five hits and a walk over seven innings Sunday, striking out five and taking a loss against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo tossed three shutout innings before coughing up a pair of runs in the fourth. He then served up a go-ahead solo shot to Ildemaro Vargas in the fifth. Lodolo is still searching for his first win since July 25; in six starts since that last victory, he's gone 0-2 with a 3.89 ERA and a 35:15 K:BB across 34.2 frames. Lodolo will carry a 4.30 ERA into his expected home matchup against the Rockies next weekend.
Aug 23, 2022
Runs out of gas in no decision
Lodolo allowed four runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman while striking out five in 5.1 innings in a 7-6 loss Tuesday in Philadelphia. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo retired the first 11 batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. Things fell apart in the sixth as the rookie allowed four baserunners and each eventually came around to score. He has now hit a batter in four straight starts and 11 times in 12 starts in the majors. Through 60 big-league innings, he has a 4.35 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 77:28 K:BB.
Aug 18, 2022
Strikes out eight batters
Lodolo did not factor into the decision against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing no runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking two over seven innings.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo found himself in a pitchers' duel Wednesday with Ranger Suarez, both of whom lasted seven innings and struck out eight batters without allowing a run. Lodolo tossed 64 of 98 pitches for strikes, showing good command with only two walks. Although he did not get the win, the lefty picked up a quality start, his first since July 31 and his third overall. After allowing seven earned runs in his last 9.1 innings, Wednesday's outing may have set Lodolo on the right track. He will take a 4.12 ERA into his next outing.
Aug 12, 2022
Struggles with control in loss
Lodolo (3-4) took the loss against the Cubs on Thursday, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six batters over 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo threw a first-pitch strike to 19 of the 24 batters he faced, yet he issued four free passes and hit one batter. The rookie gave up three runs in the first inning, struck out the side in the second and allowed three baserunners in each of the third and fourth frames in the uneven performance. Lodolo has walked multiple batters in each of his past five starts, and he's added five hit batsman over that stretch. He's registered a strong 12.1 K/9 over 47.2 innings on the season, but the control issues have led to an unsavory 4.72 ERA and 1.66 WHIP.
Aug 7, 2022
Inefficient in no-decision
Lodolo allowed three runs on four hits, four walks and a hit batter while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo threw 56 of 100 pitches for strikes, and he was tagged for a pair of home runs by Andrew McCutchen and Keston Hiura in the fourth inning. This was just the second time in nine outings Lodolo's given up multiple homers, but the four walks were a season high and the four strikeouts matched his low mark for the year. The 24-year-old owns a 4.40 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 58:20 K:BB through 43 innings in his rookie year. He's projected for a more favorable home start versus the Cubs next week.
Aug 1, 2022
Looks strong in no-decision
Lodolo gave up one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven over 6 innings in a 3-2 win over the Orioles. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo made easy work of the Orioles lineup but had to settle for a no-decision after leaving the game with 98 pitches under his belt. Lodolo has now put together two quality starts in a row to lower his ERA to 4.23. The 24-year-old left-hander is racking up the strikeouts and now has 54 in 38 innings pitched this season. He is expected to make his next start this weekend at Milwaukee.
Jul 26, 2022
Fans career-high nine
Lodolo (3-3) picked up the win in Monday's 11-2 rout of the Marlins, giving up two unearned runs on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out nine.
ANALYSIS
The nine Ks were a career high for the rookie, while the quality start was his first in seven trips to the mound in the big leagues. Lodolo sports an impressive 30.5 percent strikeout rate through his first 32.1 innings for the Reds, but his 4.73 ERA and 1.67 WHIP haven't kept pace.
Jul 16, 2022
Only two innings in loss
Lodolo (2-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks over two innings against the Cardinals. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo also plunked three batters, uncorked a wild pitch and served up a long ball to Paul Goldschmidt. The lefty needed 67 pitches to record six outs. After the game, Lodolo didn't shy away from the fact that his command was completely absent. "It's something I haven't gone through," Lodolo told Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "It's kind of weird just losing the zone like that on the field. I'm known for throwing strikes a lot. When I'm out there, I think maybe I'm trying to overcorrect because I'm thinking I'm a lot further off than I am." Perhaps Lodolo will try to tweak some things on the side during the All-Star break. Either way, he's going to be in the rotation throughout the second half so long as he's healthy.
Jul 10, 2022
Yields three runs in win
Lodolo (2-2) allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings Sunday, striking out six and earning a win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo gave up four hits through three shutout frames before the Rays produced a three-run fourth inning, started by Randy Arozarena's leadoff shot. In two starts since his return from the injured list, the 24-year-old southpaw has posted a 14:4 K:BB while yielding three runs over 9.2 frames. Lodolo is now sporting a 4.44 ERA through five starts this season. He's projected to start in St. Louis next weekend.
Jul 6, 2022
Fans eight in no-decision
Lodolo didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Mets, allowing three hits and three walks over 4.2 scoreless innings while striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
The rookie southpaw didn't last long enough to qualify for a win, getting the hook after 89 pitches (51 strikes), but it was a moot point Tuesday as the game's only run didn't cross the plate until the ninth inning. It was still a fairly impressive showing for Lodolo as he dueled future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer to a stalemate while he was on the mound. Lodolo will carry a 4.19 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB through 19.1 innings into his next start.
Jul 5, 2022
Returns as expected
The Reds activated Lodolo (back) off the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The left-handed prospect will start Tuesday versus the Mets. Lodolo made only three April starts before the back injury and struck out 19 batters, albeit with a 5.52 ERA and three home runs allowed, in 14.2 innings.
Jul 1, 2022
Expected to return Tuesday
Lodolo (back) is expected to be activated off the 60-day injured list and start Tuesday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has been out since late April as he has been dealing with a back strain and has had his return postponed multiple times. He has produced a 2.53 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 16 strikeouts over 10.2 frames in three starts with Triple-A Louisville. Lodolo will likely need multiple starts to ramp up to a full workload and will look to improve upon the 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP he compiled over three starts in April.
Jun 29, 2022
Set to return early next week
Lodolo (back) will rejoin the Reds' rotation Monday or Tuesday against the Mets, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo made his fourth rehab start Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville and allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.2 innings. The Reds will have a six-man rotation next week since they have a doubleheader, but manager David Bell declined to reveal the team's rotation plans following next week.

Looks good in fourth rehab start
Lodolo (back) worked 4.2 innings in his rehab start Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville, striking out five while allowing one run on six hits and one walk.
ANALYSIS
In what was his fourth rehab start overall and third in a row at Louisville, Lodolo built up to 78 pitches, throwing 47 strikes. He looked relatively sharp in the outing, as two of the hits he allowed were infield singles, while the run he was charged with was surrendered by a Louisville reliever. Based on his workload, Lodolo looks ready to make his next start in the big leagues, provided he checks out fine following a bullpen session over the weekend. Lodolo has been on the injured list since late April with a lower-back strain.
Jun 24, 2022
Making another rehab start
Lodolo (back) is scheduled for another minor-league rehab start Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old covered four scoreless innings during his previous rehab outing Thursday with Triple-A Louisville, and he'll remain in the minors for at least one more rehab appearance. Lodolo is expected to throw about five innings and 85-to-90 pitches in what should be his final start before rejoining the Reds' rotation.
Jun 23, 2022
Sharp in another rehab outing
Lodolo (back) threw four scoreless innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out five in a rehab outing with Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was effective across 58 pitches. It wasn't a significant increase from his 49-pitch effort in his last rehab outing, so he may need one more turn through the rotation in Louisville before being activated. Regardless of exact timing, Lodolo appears set to re-join the Reds rotation in either late June or early July.
Jun 21, 2022
Heads to 60-day IL
The Reds transferred Lodolo (back) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo hasn't pitched for the Reds since April 24 and wasn't on track to be activated from the 10-day IL in fewer than 60 days, so the transaction won't affect his timeline. Instead, the move is merely procedural, as it clears a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Donovan Solano (hamstring), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL. Lodolo is set to make his third rehab start at Triple-A Louisville later this week, and if all goes well, he could be activated from the IL and slot back into Cincinnati's rotation at some point during the final few days of June.
Jun 19, 2022
Needs another rehab start
Manager David Bell said Sunday that Lodolo (back) will make one more rehab start at Triple-A Louisville this week before the Reds decide if he's ready to return from the 10-day injured list, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has been on the IL since April 28 with a lower-back strain but is nearing the finish line in his recovery from the injury. In his second and most recent rehab start Saturday at Triple-A, Lodolo tossed two innings (49 pitches) and struck out six while giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. If Lodolo can build up to around 70 pitches in his upcoming rehab start, he could be stretched out enough to rejoin the big-league rotation before the end of the month.
Jun 18, 2022
Fans six in two innings
Lodolo (back) struck out six batters in two innings during Saturday's rehab start against Triple-A Durham.
ANALYSIS
He was in complete control in this latest rehab outing. Lodolo is expected to need at least one more tuneup in the minors before returning to the big-league rotation. Considering the Reds aren't worried about the standings this year, they will probably be conservative with Lodolo's usage and the pace of his rehab, but he is talented enough to move the needle in fantasy once he is back in the majors.
Jun 17, 2022
Another rehab start Saturday
Lodolo (back) will make a rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Louisville, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander covered two innings during his first rehab outing Monday at the Reds' complex in Arizona, and he'll make his next appearance at the highest level of the minors. Lodolo is expected to require another rehab start after Saturday's outing but could be back in the big-league rotation by the end of June.
Jun 15, 2022
Needs 2-to-3 more rehab starts
Lodolo (back) will need two or three more rehab starts to build back up before coming off the injured list, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer, the online box score for Lodolo's first rehab start Monday in the Arizona Complex League was incorrect, as it didn't account for a pitching change. Per Nightengale, Lodolo gave up one run on four hits and one walk while striking out two in two innings. He is expected to move to Triple-A Louisville for the rest of his rehab. Given that he will be making at least two more starts, a return around the end of June or start of July seems like the best-case scenario.
Jun 12, 2022
Rehab start Sunday
Lodolo (back) will pitch in a rehab game at the Reds complex in Arizona on Monday and from there he will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Given this timeline, Lodolo will head to Durham to meet Triple-A Louisville in advance of a potential rehab start next weekend. Lodolo could require multiple rehab starts at Triple-A, but that's to be determined.
Jun 7, 2022
Facing live hitters
Lodolo (back) will throw a live bullpen and pitch in a simulated game at the Reds' spring training complex this week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday and will take another step forward in his rehab process when he faces live hitters. Assuming he feels good following his upcoming throwing sessions, the left-hander's next step in his recovery will be a rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville.
Jun 4, 2022
Tosses another bullpen
Lodolo (back) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo simulated two innings during Saturday's throwing session with two sets of 15 pitches. After throwing bullpen sessions Wednesday and Saturday, the left-hander expects to throw live batting practice this week. As long as Lodolo feels good after facing live hitters, he expects to throw two innings during a rehab assignment. The 24-year-old still needs to build up his pitch count prior to rejoining the Reds, but he's made good progress in his recovery recently.
Jun 2, 2022
Completes extended 'pen session
Lodolo (back) threw approximately 30-to-35 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie southpaw plans to throw off a mound again Saturday as he builds up following a lengthy shutdown due to a lower-back strain. Because he hasn't pitched in a game since April 24, Lodolo could need at least two minor-league rehab starts before the Reds are comfortable reintegrating him into the big-league rotation.
May 29, 2022
Bullpen session coming up
Manager David Bell said Sunday that Lodolo (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in a few days, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Lodolo still looks to be multiple weeks away from coming off the 10-day injured list, his advancement to mound work represents a step forward in his recovery from a lower-back strain. Before landing on the shelf April 28, Lodolo posted a 5.52 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB in 14.2 innings over his first three MLB starts.
May 22, 2022
Throwing again, not close to return
Manager David Bell said Sunday that Lodolo (back) has been cleared to restart throwing program but won't be ready to rejoin the rotation in the near future, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
On a positive note, Lodolo appears to be progressing in his recovery from a back strain after the Reds paused his throwing program for the past week, but the team is likely to have the rookie left-hander ramp up slowly from the injury. Since he hasn't pitched in a game since April 24, Lodolo will almost certainly require a minor-league rehab assignment consisting of at least one or two starts once he completes his build-up program, so he might realistically be three or more weeks away from making his next appearance for the Reds. The murky recovery timeline may make it tough to justify holding Lodolo in most leagues, even though he delivered a two straight promising starts before the injury cropped up.
May 17, 2022
Pausing throwing program
Lodolo (back) won't throw for the next week, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo had previously been expected to return from the injured list back on May 7, but those plans wound up being scrapped after he continued to feel sore. He played catch late last week, but that evidently didn't go well, either, so he'll rest for a week before the Reds determine a new timeline for his recovery. He'll need to build back up after that shutdown period, so he won't be in contention to return as soon as that week is over.
May 12, 2022
Playing catch Thursday
Lodolo (back) was playing catch ahead of Thursday's game at Pittsburgh, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was expected to be activated from the injured list and rejoin the rotation last weekend, but his return ended up being pushed back. It's unclear where exactly the 24-year-old currently stands in his recovery, but it's still good news to at least see him playing catch. Lodolo doesn't have an official timeline for his return.
May 7, 2022
No timetable for return
Lodolo (back) was examined Friday night and it was determined he wasn't ready to rejoin the rotation, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
According to manager David Bell, there is no timetable for his return. Back issues can be tricky, especially with tall pitchers like Lodolo, who is 6-foot-6. He was originally going to get a great matchup this weekend against the Pirates, but now it's unclear when he will be ready to rejoin the rotation. We should get a clearer idea whenever he resumes a throwing program.
May 6, 2022
Not starting this weekend
Lodolo (back) will not make a start this weekend against the Pirates after Friday's game was postponed and the rotation was pushed back, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a tough break for those who started Lodolo this week in hopes of taking advantage of a good matchup against the Pirates. It's unclear if he will join the rotation next week at home against the Brewers. Tyler Mahle will start Sunday.
May 5, 2022
On track to start Saturday
Lodolo (back) is on track to start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has been on the injured list for a week due to a lower-back strain, but he should be able to return to action following a minimal absence. It's possible the Reds will monitor his workload if he's ultimately cleared to start Saturday, but he's been able to keep throwing since landing on the IL. In his first three major-league starts, the southpaw posted a 5.52 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 14.2 innings.
Apr 28, 2022
Brief absence expected
Lodolo (back) is expected to return next weekend against the Pirates, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo hit the injured list Thursday with a lower-back strain, but it looks as though he's on track to miss just one start. He'll be eligible to return next Thursday and should be back shortly after that date.
Apr 28, 2022
Shelved with back strain
The Reds placed Lodolo on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a lower-back strain, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so he'll be eligible to return from the IL as soon as May 5 if he makes a swift recovery from the back issue. Though the Reds haven't indicated the injury is a long-term concern, it's nonetheless a disappointing development for the rookie lefty, who rebounded from a rough MLB debut April 13 against the Guardians by submitting a 3.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB in 10.2 innings between his last two starts.
Apr 24, 2022
Earns first MLB win
Lodolo (1-2) allowed one run on five hits over 5.2 innings Sunday, striking out seven and picking up a win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo dominated the Cardinals through five shutout frames; he allowed just three hits and only one went for extra bases. He finally coughed up a run in the sixth after back-to-back doubles by Paul Goldschmidt and Tyler O'Neill. The 6-foot-6 southpaw has shown steady improvement over his three MLB starts and he now owns a 5.52 ERA across 14.2 innings. Lodolo is expected to take the mound in Colorado next week.
Apr 19, 2022
Shows improvement in second start
Lodolo (0-2) took the loss against San Diego on Monday, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has lost each of his first two big-league starts, but he showed some improvement in his second appearance Monday. The left-hander went one inning deeper and exited having given up fewer hits, runs and walks while doubling his strikeout total from four to eight in comparison to his big-league debut. Lodolo also threw 18 first-pitch strikes (to 23 batters) and registered 16 swings-and-misses Monday. He'll try to grab his elusive first win in his next start, which is tentatively slated to come at home against St. Louis on Sunday.
Apr 13, 2022
Struggles in MLB debut
Lodolo (0-1) pitched four innings, surrendering five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four in a loss versus the Guardians on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old struggled in his major-league debut, allowing 10 batters to reach base in four innings on the mound. Lodolo unraveled in the second inning, walking three batters while hitting two others, ultimately giving up two runs in the inning without allowing a hit. He later gave up homers to Owen Miller and Jose Ramirez, the later of which was a two-run shot. Lodolo's claim to fame in the minor-leagues was his ability to strike out 38.8 percent of the batters he faced in 2021, but he only struck out four of the 24 batters he faced Wednesday. The rookie's next shot on the mound is expected to come Monday on the road against the Padres.
Apr 13, 2022
Called up from minors
The Reds officially selected Lodolo's contract from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Cincinnati already confirmed a day ago that Lodolo would pick up the start in Wednesday's series finale with the Guardians, but the team didn't formally activate until the day of the game. Riley O'Brien was designated for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster for Lodolo, who should be guaranteed a rotation spot until at least one of Luis Castillo (shoulder) or Mike Minor (shoulder) return from the injured list. After a brilliant 2021 campaign between Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville in which Lodolo compiled a 2.31 ERA and 0.97 WHIP while striking out 38.8 percent of the batters he faced across 50.2 innings, it's not out of the question for the young lefty to perform well enough to permanently stay with the big club even after both Castillo and Minor return.
Apr 12, 2022
Confirmed for MLB debut Wednesday
The Reds announced that Lodolo will have his contract selected from Triple-A Louisville in advance of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Guardians in Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Manager David Bell heavily implied at the end of spring training that Lodolo would break camp as a member of the Cincinnati rotation, but the Reds delayed adding the 24-year-old lefty to the 40-man and 28-man active rosters until a fifth starter was first needed Wednesday. Lodolo should make at least two turns through the rotation before the Reds return either Luis Castillo (shoulder) and Mike Minor (shoulder) from the injured list, and whether the rookie sticks around with the big club on a more permanent basis will likely hinge on how he performs in his initial MLB action. Between his stops at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville in 2021, Lodolo was one of the minor league's most dominant pitchers. He made bats miss at a prolific clip (38.8 strikeout rate) and generated groundballs at a 54 percent clip over 50.2 total innings.
Apr 4, 2022
Looks locked in for rotation
Manager David Bell said Lodolo will travel north with the Reds for the start of the season, though he won't necessarily be added to the 40-man roster and 28-man active roster ahead of Thursday's Opening Day game in Atlanta, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
The Reds' decision to delay Lodolo's addition to the roster just looks to be procedural, as the 24-year-old lefty won't be needed for his MLB debut until the team requires a fifth starter in its sixth game of the season April 13 against the Guardians in Cincinnati. With Luis Castillo (shoulder) and Mike Minor (shoulder) both set to begin the season on the injured list, Lodolo should have at least a few starts to prove he's worthy of a permanent spot in the rotation once the Reds' pitching staff is back to full strength. After a banner 2021 season that included stops at Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Louisville, Lodolo has continued to shine in the spring with a 2.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB across 11.1 innings in Cactus League play.

Could start Cincy's sixth game
Lodolo appears to be the leading candidate to start the Reds' sixth game of the season April 13 against the Guardians in Cincinnati, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While addressing the media Wednesday, manager David Bell laid out his pitching plans for the start of the season. With both Luis Castillo (shoulder) and Mike Minor (shoulder) opening the year on the injured list, the skipper said that Tyler Mahle will get the Opening Day nod April 7 in Atlanta, while Reiver Sanmartin, Vladimir Gutierrez and Hunter Greene will follow Mahle in success for the remaining three games of the series. After an off day April 11, Mahle will start the Reds' home opener a day later against Cleveland, but Bell is leaving the door open for a fifth starter to enter the mix April 13. Since neither Castillo nor Minor will be available by then, Lodolo looks like the most logical choice for the fifth and final spot in the rotation, assuming the Reds elect not to play service-time games with him. How long he sticks in Cincinnati's rotation will likely be dictated by how he performs in his initial big-league action, but Lodolo's dominance in the upper levels of the minors in 2021 provides reason
Mar 30, 2022
Strong spring start
Lodolo struck out three while allowing one baserunner over three shutout innings against the Rangers in spring training action Tuesday, all while his chances of making the Opening Day roster improved, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. "I feel like I belong," Lodolo said. "I feel like my stuff is good enough. I believe in myself. I feel like every time out I've been facing pretty much everyone's actual lineup, so it's a definitely a confidence builder."
ANALYSIS
Tuesday afternoon was a busy day for Lodolo and the Reds rotation. Not only did he pitch well, but the team sent down Graham Ashcraft, Ben Lively and Kyle Zimmer, and decided to put Tony Santillan into the bullpen. Plus they confirmed that Luis Castillo and Mike Minor would both begin the year on the IL. Barring a dark horse candidate entering the mix, that leaves just Tyler Mahle, Vladimir Gutierrez, Reiver Sanmartin, Lodolo and Hunter Greene as current healthy options to start.
Mar 28, 2022
Could make opening roster
Lodolo is still battling for an Opening Day roster spot and slot in the rotation, as is fellow prospect Hunter Greene, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
If that last spot comes down to Greene vs. Lodolo, Greene has an advantage by being on the 40-man roster. However, it's possible that both pitchers make it, as only the top two spots in the rotation are currently settled with both Luis Castillo and Mike Minor not ready for Opening Day. Other options include Reiver Sanmartin, Ben Lively and Tony Santillan.
Mar 18, 2022
Excellent in spring outing
Lodolo tossed two perfect innings while striking out four Friday against the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
One of the top left-handed pitching prospects in the game, Lodolo has a chance to win a big-league rotation spot this spring, especially if he pitches at the level he did Friday. Hunter Greene and Justin Dunn (shoulder) are also in the mix for a rotation spot, and there could be another opening if Luis Castillo and/or Tyler Mahle gets traded.

Shoulder fully healed
Lodolo (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Tuesday at the Reds' training site in Arizona without issue and isn't expected to face any limitations during minor-league spring training, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. "He's been here, and we're trying to build him up and make sure we're beyond the shoulder issues," Reds vice president of player development Shawn Pender said Wednesday. "We were cautious last year. I think rightfully so, based on some of the other things that were happening...He looks completely
ANALYSIS
Lodolo finished the 2021 campaign on Triple-A Louisville's 7-day injured list with a strained left shoulder, but the 24-year-old southpaw has been throwing off a mound for most of the offseason without incident. The injury in question limited him to just three starts for Louisville following his promotion from Double-A Chattanooga in early August. Lodolo's limited experience at Triple-A along with his lack of a 40-man roster spot makes an assignment to Louisville his most likely outcome to begin the season, but once big-league camp opens, he'll at least have a chance to compete for the Reds' No. 5 starter job along with youngsters Hunter Greene, Reiver Sanmartin and Riley O'Brien. Cincinnati could also look to add a veteran to compete for the role once the free-agent market reopens when the lockout is lifted.

Receives camp invite
Lodolo was invited to major-league spring training by the Reds on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
General manager Nick Krall said in November Lodolo would be in the mix for a rotation spot in 2022, so it's not a major surprise the left-hander will be in big-league camp. The 23-year-old posted a 1.84 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 68:9 K:BB over 44 innings at Double-A Chattanooga last year before a late-season promotion to Triple-A Louisville.
Nov 5, 2021
In mix for rotation
Lodolo will compete for a spot in the Reds' 2022 rotation, according to general manager Nick Krall, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Krall said that Lodolo, along with Hunter Greene and Reiver Sanmartin, will compete for one of the two vacant spots. Greene and Lodolo are two of the Reds' best prospects, so they could become trendy fantasy fliers if they pitch well in spring training. The 23-year-old lefty logged a 1.84 ERA in 10 starts at Double-A and an inflated 5.40 ERA in three starts at Triple-A.
Aug 22, 2021
Perfect inning in return
Lodolo (shoulder) struck out the side in a perfect inning in his start Sunday for Triple-A Louisville.
ANALYSIS
Since Lodolo had been out of action for nearly two weeks with a sore left shoulder, his workload was capped in his return to the Louisville rotation. Even though he was limited Sunday, Lodolo was still mightily impressive in the outing, pumping in all 11 of his pitches for strikes while facing the minimum. He'll likely have a longer leash the next time his turn in the rotation comes up, though Lodolo shouldn't be expected to work more than 3-to-4 frames.
Aug 13, 2021
Managing shoulder issue
Lodolo won't make his scheduled start at Triple-A Louisville on Sunday due to left shoulder fatigue, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has made two starts since he was promoted to Triple-A Louisville last week, and he allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven in 5.2 innings during that time. It's not clear how long the southpaw's shoulder injury will keep him sidelined.
Aug 3, 2021
Bumped up to Triple-A
Lodolo was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo is one of the best pitching prospects in the minors. He logged a 1.84 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 68 strikeouts in 44 innings (10 starts) at Double-A. It's possible he could make his big-league debut if the Reds need reinforcements later this summer.
Jul 31, 2021
Still building innings
Lodolo hasn't pitched more than four innings in a game since returning at the beginning of July from a blister problem on his pitching hand, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Time is running short if the Reds are hoping that Lodolo could provide a boost to their rotation for the stretch run. There's a chance that wasn't in the cards anyhow, but the next step will be to stretch him out longer, and then get him up to Triple-A Louisville, where he can rejoin fellow prospect Hunter Greene.
Jul 11, 2021
Excels in Futures Game
Lodolo struck out one and was credited with a hold during a perfect inning of relief for the National League team in its 8-3 win over the American League during Sunday's 2021 All-Star Futures Game.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo was sidelined for most of June due to blisters on his pitching hand, but he was cleared to return to action Tuesday to make one final tune-up start at Double-A Chattanooga before heading to Colorado for the Futures Game. After a solid two-inning showing Tuesday, Lodolo impressed against higher-level competition Sunday, retiring the side on 13 pitches. He'll transition back into a starting role as he heads back to Chattanooga, with whom he's posted an 0.84 ERA and 0.78 WHIP across 32 innings this season.
Jun 30, 2021
Selected for Futures Game
Lodolo has been selected as the Reds' representative for the Futures Game on July 11, despite being on the IL at Double-A Chattanooga for the last three weeks with blisters on his pitching hand, Doug Gray of RedsMinorLeagues.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo has had a great campaign when he's been on the mound, but the blister issue has been persistent over the last month and a half. His naming to the Futures Game squad indicates that he could be back soon.
Jun 15, 2021
Starts curtailed by blisters
Lodolo's last two starts for Double-A Chattanooga have been curtailed by blisters on his pitching hand, including Saturday's outing against Pensacola, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Lodolo previously had started on May 30, when that start was also cut short. He's been utterly dominant at Chattanooga, posting a 0.90 ERA and 0.83 WHIP over 30 innings, striking out 45 while walking only six. Teammate Hunter Greene has already been promoted to Triple-A Louisville, and it's easy to imagine that Lodolo will soon follow.
May 24, 2021
Dazzles at Double-A
Lodolo was named the Double-A South Player of the Week after he struck out 11 while allowing only two baserunners over 7.1 innings in his May 19 start for Chattanooga.
ANALYSIS
The duo of Lodolo and fellow top pitching prospect Hunter Greene at the top of the Chattanooga rotation has proven formidable over the first month of the minor-league season. After his big week, Lodolo is holding down a 0.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 14.2 K/9 through three starts, while Greene (1.69 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 14.1 K/9) boasts similarly brilliant ratios. The Reds would probably prefer to keep the 23-year-old lefty in the minors until 2022, but that could change if the big club finds itself in playoff contention late in the second half of the season and the pitching staff needs a boost.
