Drives in three in win
Jones went 1-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, three RBI and one run scored in Thursday's 14-5 win over the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
Jones knocked in one run on a fielder's choice in the third inning and added a two-run double a frame later. He's had a strong end of the season, hitting .330 (31-for-94) in September with six home runs, 10 steals and 21 RBI over 26 contests this month. Jones is at a .290/.383/.535 slash line with 19 homers, 18 steals, 60 RBI, 59 runs scored and 22 doubles across 103 games for the season, which has been a breakout year for the 25-year-old.
Sep 25, 2023
Swats 18th home run
Jones went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Jones got a hold of a slider from Jordan Wicks and sent it over the wall in center to extend the Rockies' lead to 3-1. The long ball was his seventh against left-handed pitching and his 10th on the road, as he's showing he doesn't need to rely on playing at home to be an impactful bat. He's been a true breakout star for the Rockies and is potentially setting himself up for a massive year in 2024 with a full season under his belt. The 25-year-old is now slashing .286/.382/.531 with 18 home runs, 55 RBI, 56 runs, 17 steals and a 50:117 BB:K in 393 plate appearances.
Sep 19, 2023
Strong work in loss
Jones went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 11-9 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
This was Jones' second three-hit effort in a row. The outfielder has looked good in September, going 20-for-66 (.303) with four homers and 15 RBI over 17 contests. The 25-year-old is slashing .281/.366/.520 with 17 long balls, 54 RBI, 54 runs scored and 13 stolen bases through 94 games this season. Jones should continue to see most of the playing time in left field to close out the campaign.
Sep 9, 2023
Fills box score Friday
Jones went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI double, a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 9-8 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jones did a little bit of everything in an effort that also extended his active hitting streak to eight games. In that span, he's gone 12-for-30 (.400) with two homers, nine RBI and five steals. The outfielder has enjoyed a breakout campaign with 15 long balls, 13 thefts, 48 RBI, 44 runs scored, 19 doubles and three triples while slashing .285/.367/.528 over 84 contests.
Sep 6, 2023
Notches steal
Jones went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, one RBI and one stolen base in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Jones extended his hitting streak to six games, a span in which he's gone 9-for-22 (.409) with four of his 12 steals on the season. The 25-year-old outfielder's improved hitting and solid baserunning have helped him hold down a steady place in the Rockies' lineup lately. For the year, he's mustered a .282/.365/.511 slash line with 14 home runs, 44 RBI, 42 runs scored, 18 doubles and two triples over 318 plate appearances.
Sep 4, 2023
Swipes two bags
Jones went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two stolen bases Sunday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Jones had a strong weekend series against the Blue Jays. He blasted his 14th homer of the season Friday and stole three bases combined across the final two games in the set. While Jones is known primarily for his power, he has six swiped bags across 43 games since the All-Star break.
Sep 2, 2023
Three hits including homer in loss
Jones went 3-for-3 with a three-run homer, a triple, a walk and three runs scored in Friday's 13-9 loss to the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Jones singled and then scored on a two-run homer by Elehuris Montero in the bottom of the third inning before he later ripped a three-run shot off Genesis Cabrera in the bottom of the sixth, briefly giving Colorado a 5-4 lead. The 25-year-old has now hit 14 homers on the year, five of which have come since Aug. 8. Since the All-Star break, Jones has produced a .280 batting average with nine homers, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases over 143 at-bats in 41 games.
Aug 20, 2023
Posts big stat line Saturday
Jones went 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs, two RBI and a stolen base in an 11-5 victory versus the White Sox on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Jones knocked a two-run single in the second inning, giving him exactly two RBI in each of his past three games. He's now collected at least three hits three times over 17 contests during a solid August during which he's slashing .311/.394/.557 with three homers, 14 RBI, 10 runs and a stolen base. Strikeouts have been a problem for Jones -- he's at a 33.2 percent strikeout rate over 256 plate appearances -- but he's nonetheless managed to post a strong .283/.363/.504 slash line.
Aug 17, 2023
Pops 12th home
Jones went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and walk Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Jones has struck out at a 46.8 clip across his last 12 starts, though he's still flashed power by blasting three home runs in that span. While his results have been inconsistent, his playing time has been steady as he's started 15 consecutive games -- all of which have come in a corner outfield spot. Jones should continue to see consistent run to close the campaign and be a decent source of power as a result.
Aug 9, 2023
Homers twice during win
Jones went 2-for-4 with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Jones had gone 11 games without a home run entering Tuesday but made up for the drought by sending two balls over the fence in the fourth and seventh innings. The 25-year-old outfielder is now slashing .333/.433/.667 with six RBI since the beginning of August and figures to continue seeing regular playing time while Kris Bryant (finger) is on the injured list.
Aug 4, 2023
Leads offense in win
Jones went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Jones had gone seven games without an extra-base hit prior to Friday. The 25-year-old's four hits matched his season high. He's slashing .278/.362/.483 with nine home runs, seven stolen bases, 25 RBI, 24 runs scored and nine doubles over 199 plate appearances. With Randal Grichuk traded to the Angels, more playing time has opened up in the outfield for Jones, while Elehuris Montero and Michael Toglia have shared time at first base.
Aug 1, 2023
Back in lineup Tuesday
Jones (cramps) is back in the lineup Tuesday versus the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Jones will start in right field and bat sixth for the Rockies after making an early exit from Monday's series opener due to some mild cramping. The 25-year-old has posted an impressive .836 OPS with nine homers and seven steals through 50 major-league games this season.
Jul 31, 2023
Out of Monday's lineup
Jones (cramps) is not in Monday's lineup against the Padres.
ANALYSIS
He left Sunday's game with cramping during an at-bat in the eighth inning, and while the removal was deemed precautionary, Jones is still absent Monday with a righty (Seth Lugo) on the hill for San Diego. Michael Toglia is starting in right field and batting sixth.
Jul 30, 2023
Early exit deemed precautionary
Jones exited Sunday's game against the Athletics as a precautionary measure after he cramped up during an at-bat in the eighth inning, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was visited by a trainer in the bottom of the eighth inning before being replaced defensively in the top of the ninth, but his injury doesn't seem to be particularly serious. The 25-year-old should tentatively be considered day-to-day ahead of Monday's series opener against the Padres.
Jul 30, 2023
Exits with trainer
Jones was removed from Sunday's game against the Athletics in the ninth inning due to an apparent injury, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones appeared to land awkwardly on first base while running out a grounder earlier in Sunday's matchup, and he was visited by a trainer at the end of the eighth inning before being replaced defensively to begin the ninth. He went 2-for-4 before leaving the game, and it's unclear whether he'll be available for Monday's series opener against the Padres.
Jul 28, 2023
On bench Friday
Jones is not in the lineup Friday against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Jurickson Profar, Brenton Doyle and Randal Grichuk will start across the outfield. Jones is 0-for-7 with one walk and two strikeouts over his last two games but boasts an .842 OPS in 175 total major-league plate appearances this year.
Jul 25, 2023
Power ticking back up
Jones went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk Monday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Jones entered the All-Star break with only one home run across his previous 22 games, however, he's cleared the fences four times in eight games since. Two of those have come away from Coors Field, including his two-run shot Monday. Despite the hot stretch, Jones is still striking out at a 44.8 percent clip in the same eight-game span. As a result, he'll likely remain a particularly streaky hitter across the final two months of the campaign.
Jul 19, 2023
On bench for series finale
Jones is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Jones will take a seat for the series finale after starting in four of the Rockies' previous five games while going 3-for-15 with two home runs and three RBI. With Jones on the bench, the Rockies will roll out an outfield of Jurickson Profar, Brenton Doyle and Kris Bryant from left to right.
Jul 17, 2023
Provides game-tying homer
Jones went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Jones has homered twice over three games since the All-Star break, and Sunday's 11th inning blast tied the contest at 7-7. The 25-year-old has also struck out in his last 11 games, racking up 14 of them in that span. He's at seven homers, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored, five stolen bases and a .288/.369/.508 slash line through 40 contests. Jones has received more playing time in left field of late, which could ultimately land him on the strong side of a platoon with switch-hitting Jurickson Profar.
Jul 14, 2023
Homers off bench
Jones went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-2 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Jones didn't start the game but entered as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning for Randal Grichuk. Jones then tacked on the Rockies' last run with an eighth-inning blast. The 25-year-old doesn't have one path to everyday at-bats, but he should be able to spell C.J. Cron and Kris Bryant on occasion while also pushing Jurickson Profar in left field for playing time, especially against right-handed pitchers. Jones owns a .293/.379/.504 slash line with six homers, 15 RBI, 18 runs scored and five stolen bases over 140 plate appearances and could stick in the lineup at least until Charlie Blackmon (hand) returns from the injured list.
Jul 5, 2023
Back in action in Houston
Jones will start at first base and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Jones sat out a pair of games to close out the Rockies' weekend series with the Tigers, but Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post relays that the 24-year-old was away from the team because he had been serving as the best man in his brother's wedding back on the East Coast. Following the excused absence, Jones rejoined the Rockies in Houston and went 0-for-2 with a walk in Tuesday's 4-1 loss. Jones will stick in the lineup again Wednesday and appears to be locked into a full-time role at the moment, even with the recent return of Kris Bryant from the injured list. Instead of Jones, rookie outfielder Brenton Doyle -- who is on the bench Wednesday for the second game in a row -- appears to be the odd man out of the Rockies' regular lineup.
Jul 2, 2023
Sitting in second straight
Jones is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight day, the lefty-hitting Jones will find himself on the bench against a right-hander, this time sitting versus the Tigers' Matt Manning. The recent returns of Kris Bryant and C.J. Cron from the injured list appear to have blocked off Jones' path to steady at-bats in the corner outfield or at first base, making it tough to justify holding the 25-year-old in most shallower leagues. Jones has certainly done his part to justify regular playing time, having produced a .315/.398/.528 slash line with five stolen bases through 123 plate appearances in the majors this season.
Jun 27, 2023
Out versus lefty
Jones isn't in the Rockies' lineup Tuesday versus the Dodgers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Left-hander Clayton Kershaw will start on the mound for the Dodgers on Tuesday, so the lefty-hitting Jones will sit out the beginning of the game. Randal Grichuk will take over for Jones in right field and bat sixth.
Jun 21, 2023
Nearly hits for cycle
Jones went 4-for-4 with a solo homer, two doubles, a walk, a stolen base, two RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.
ANALYSIS
Jones had a perfect night at the plate and was robbed a triple short of the cycle after Jake Fraley made an excellent play off the wall to hold him to just two bases in the ninth. The 25-year-old already has five home runs, five stolen bases and has eight multi-hit efforts in just 24 games since being called up May 26. The Rockies seem to have made a splash with Jones after acquiring him in an offseason trade with the Guardians and he appears to have solidified an everyday role with the club. He's now slashing .354/.436/.634 with 13 extra-base hits, 14 RBI, 12 runs and an 11:30 BB:K over 94 plate appearances.
Jun 11, 2023
Comes up clutch
Jones went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Jones' walk-off blast came after a rain delay following Ryan McMahon's game-tying home run in the ninth inning. Jones has homered three times in his last five games and now has four long balls through 15 contests this season. He's slashing .360/.407/.680 with 12 RBI, seven runs scored and four stolen bases through 54 plate appearances. His productivity has helped him step into an everyday role of late between first base and the corner outfield.
Jun 11, 2023
Belts third homer
Jones went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
He got the Rockies on the board in the second inning by taking Ryan Weathers deep. Jones has been impressive since joining the big-league roster in late May, batting .304 (14-for-46) over 14 games with three homers and 11 RBI as he splits his time between right field and first base.
Jun 10, 2023
Records fourth steal
Jones went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 9-6 loss to the Padres.
ANALYSIS
This is just the fourth time in 13 games that Jones has been held without a hit, but he still managed to get on base twice. He also logged a steal for the fourth game in a row. The 25-year-old has fit in wonderfully with the Rockies, hitting .349 with two home runs, four steals, 10 RBI and four runs scored over 47 plate appearances.
Jun 8, 2023
Three more hits Thursday
Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a steal in Thursday's 6-4 loss against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Jones now has four multi-hit games in his last six contests, going 10-for-23 (.435) in that span. He's also logged a steal in three straight games. Since he was recalled from Triple-A on May 26, the 25-year-old Jones has slashed .366/.395/.610 with two home runs, 10 RBI and three runs scored across 43 plate appearances. With C.J. Cron (back) seemingly a ways away from returning, Jones should continue to see regular playing time at first base in Colorado.
Jun 8, 2023
Productive in loss
Jones went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jones provided the Rockies' last run of the game with a sixth-inning solo shot. This was his fourth multi-hit effort in 11 major-league contests this season, and it was also his second game in a row with a steal. The 25-year-old is up to a .316/.333/.553 slash line with two homers, eight RBI and three runs scored through 39 plate appearances. Between first base and the corner outfield, Jones is quickly establishing himself in the Rockies' lineup.
Jun 7, 2023
Records first steal
Jones went 0-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 10-4 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jones got aboard on a fielder's choice and stole second in the fourth inning. The 25-year-old was held hitless for just the third time in his 10 games this season, and he struck out twice for the fourth game in a row, but he's still making a positive impact. He's batting .294 with a home run, seven RBI, two runs scored and three doubles through 35 plate appearances Jones continues to fill in at first base while C.J. Cron (back) remains sidelined. Cron won't be back for multiple weeks, so Jones has a chance to run with a starting role between first and the corner outfield positions.
Jun 3, 2023
Sitting Saturday
Jones isn't starting Saturday against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Jones has started seven of eight games since being recalled from Triple-A and holds an .872 OPS over 27 plate appearances. He'll get a breather Saturday as Elehuris Montero picks up a start at first base while batting sixth.
Jun 3, 2023
Sticking in lineup
Jones went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI on Friday against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Jones was in the lineup for the seventh time in the last eight games, and he's started at first base on five occasions. He delivered a two-RBI double in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to four games, during which he's tallied a home run, two doubles and four RBI. With both C.J. Cron (back) and Kris Bryant (heel) sidelined, Jones should have multiple paths to playing time in the short term.
Jun 1, 2023
Another start Thursday
Jones is starting in right field and batting seventh Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old should have an even more secure role on the Rockies' depth chart with Kris Bryant (heel) now on the injured list. Jones has posted an .871 OPS in 19 plate appearances since getting called up May 26 from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he was sporting an absurd .356/.481/.711 slash line with 12 homers, 42 RBI, five steals and 38 runs scored in 39 games.
May 31, 2023
Hits late home run in loss
Jones went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Jones took Kevin Ginkel 399 feet to right field to finally get the Rockies on the board in the ninth after capitalizing on a hanging breaking ball. It was his second extra-base hit and his third RBI since being called up from Triple-A Alburquerque on May 26. Jones figures to continue to get the fair share of looks at first base while C.J. Cron (back) works on his return from the IL. Even if he gets demoted once Cron returns, Jones could still receive a longer look at some point during the year, as he was dominating Triple-A before joining the Rockies, slashing .356/.481/.711 with 12 homers, 42 RBI, 38 runs and a 33:43 BB:K over 39 games.
May 29, 2023
Sitting Monday
Jones is not in the starting lineup Monday versus the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Jones will head to the bench after he went 3-for-11 with a double, two RBI and a run scored while starting all three games of the series with the Mets following his promotion from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday. Mike Moustakas will draw the start at first base and bat seventh in the series opener with Arizona.
May 28, 2023
First hit of season
Jones went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Mets.
ANALYSIS
Jones was recalled Friday to provide additional depth with Brenton Doyle (knee) sidelined. Since, he's started both games at first base, taking over the combination of Michael Toglia -- demoted back to Triple-A Albuquerque -- and Mike Moustakas at first base. Jones had maintained a 181 wRC+ and .504 wOBA across 187 plate appearances with Albuquerque, and it appears he'll have the chance to carry that performance into the majors.
May 26, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
Colorado recalled Jones from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The initial belief was that Jones would be replacing Brenton Doyle (knee) on the Rockies' active roster, but it now appears that Doyle will not require an IL stint. Michael Toglia wound up being optioned as the corresponding move for Jones, who had been on an absolute heater offensively at the Triple-A level. Presuming he gets regular at-bats, the versatile 25-year-old is probably worth a try in deeper fantasy formats. He was slashing .356/.481/.711 with 12 homers, 42 RBI, five stolen bases and 38 runs scored in 39 games with Albuquerque.
May 25, 2023
Promotion expected
Jones is likely to be promoted to the majors to replace Brenton Doyle (knee) on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones made the big-league roster to start the regular season but was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in mid-April. He's maintained an impressive 183 wrC+ and .505 wOBA since, so he's earned a second look in the majors. Either he or Randal Grichuk figures to be the primary beneficiary of Doyle's absence.
Apr 16, 2023
Optioned back to Triple-A
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Sunday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones didn't get a chance to play for the Rockies after being promoted Tuesday. The infielder/outfielder is sent back to the minors to clear space for Noah Davis with Davis starting Sunday's contest against the Mariners.
Apr 12, 2023
Recalled from Triple-A
Jones was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Wednesday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was one of the last roster cuts this spring and was off to a blazing start at Albuquerque, batting .359/.479/.872 with six home runs and one stolen base. The former Guardian is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues in hopes he lands regular playing time, although it's no guarantee that happens.
Mar 20, 2023
Optioned to Triple-A
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Jones was acquired by the Rockies in a deal with the Guardians over the winter, and there was some thought he might open the season as a starter for Colorado. The 24-year-old was shaky in his Cactus League at-bats before the demotion with a .186/.250/.233 slash and 20:4 K:BB over 48 plate appearances. Jones has a chance to help out the Rockies before 2023 ends, but it'll be Elehuris Montero and Mike Moustakas who will get the majority of at-bats from the hot corner to begin the year.
Mar 3, 2023
Will get a shot at third base
Jones is expected to get a chance to play third base for the Rockies with Ryan McMahon moving to second, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has yet to get any reps at third base at the major-league level, but that was his primary position in the minors. He's expected to compete with Elehuris Montero for playing time at the hot corner. Jones has a good eye at the plate and lots of raw power, although that pop hasn't manifested into big home run totals in the minors. Coors Field would help that, though, making Jones an interesting late-round upside play in fantasy if he can get the playing time.
Feb 23, 2023
Getting reps at first base
Jones is getting reps at first base this spring in Rockies camp, MLB Pipeline reports.
ANALYSIS
That is in addition to his scheduled work at third base and both corner-outfield spots. Acquired from the Guardians via trade this winter, the versatile Jones seems likely to win a bench job out of spring training. And he may then emerge as a starter somewhere in Colorado. Jones, 24, carries a career .841 OPS -- including a .394 career OBP -- in more than 2,000 minor-league plate appearances.
Nov 15, 2022
Sent to Colorado
Jones was acquired by the Rockies from the Guardians on Tuesday in exchange for Juan Brito.
ANALYSIS
Jones made his MLB debut with Cleveland last season and had a .244/.309/.372 slash line with two home runs and 13 RBI in 28 games. The 24-year-old will now join the Rockies and should have a chance to earn a role in the majors next year.
Aug 21, 2022
Sent down Sunday
Jones was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Jones lost out on playing time for the Guardians recently, and he sat out five of the last seven matchups. The 24-year-old slashed .244/.309/.372 with two home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs over 24 major-league games after being called up by Cleveland in early July. He should see more consistent at-bats in the minors.
Aug 16, 2022
Losing playing time
Jones is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Jones is riding pine for the third time in four games, will each absence coming when the Guardians have opposed a right-handed starting pitcher. With Jones getting on base at a .185 clip and striking out in 44.4 percent of his plate appearances in August, the playoff-hopeful Guardians seem inclined to rotate players at the designated-hitter spot rather than leaning on the slumping rookie as their primary option.
Aug 14, 2022
Not starting Sunday
Jones is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Jones is 5-for-23 with nine strikeouts through eight games in August and will head to the bench Sunday. Jose Ramirez will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Tyler Freeman starts at the hot corner during the series finale in Toronto.
Aug 13, 2022
Three-hit effort Friday
Jones went 3-for-5 in Friday's 8-0 win over the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
While his playing time has become inconsistent, Jones has gone 5-for-11 with three strikeouts and no extra-base hits in his last three contests. The versatile 24-year-old owns a .280/.349/.427 slash line with two home runs, 13 RBI, 10 runs scored and five doubles through 25 contests. Steven Kwan and Oscar Gonzalez are holding down starting roles in the corner outfield spots, while Jones remains a part-time player who is seeing less than a strong-side platoon role at designated hitter.
Aug 11, 2022
Sitting Thursday
Jones is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Jones will take a seat after he went 1-for-3 in Wednesday's win. Jose Ramirez will slide over to designated hitter while Tyler Freeman enters the lineup at third base and bats seventh against Detroit.
Aug 9, 2022
Sitting again Tuesday
Jones is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Jones will remain out of the lineup for the second game in a row and fifth time in seven games overall. Owen Miller will take over at designated hitter and bat sixth in the series opener.
Aug 7, 2022
Out against right-hander
Jones is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros and right-hander Cristian Javier.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Jones will take a seat for the fourth time in six games, with two of those benchings coming against right-handed pitching. While the struggling Franmil Reyes is in the minors, Jones could still play more often than not against right-handers, but the return of Oscar Gonzalez from the injured list means that Jones won't have as clear of a path to the everyday role in right field as he previously enjoyed.
Aug 5, 2022
On bench versus lefty
Jones is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Houston.
ANALYSIS
Jones will take a seat for the third time in the past four contests with southpaw Framber Valdez on the mound for the Astros. Oscar Gonzalez will start in right field while Owen Miller serves as the designated hitter.
Aug 3, 2022
Sits versus lefty
Jones is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Jones will hit the bench with southpaw Tommy Henry taking the mound for Arizona. The righty-hitting Oscar Gonzalez will man right field Wednesday, and he and Jones could end up forming a platoon at the position moving forward.
Aug 2, 2022
Sitting against right-hander
Jones is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though the Guardians are facing a right-hander (Zac Gallen) on Tuesday, the lefty-hitting Jones will cede his spot in the lineup to the righty-hitting Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal), who will start in right field in his return from the injured list. Cleveland is expected to option designated hitter Franmil Reyes to Triple-A Columbus later Tuesday, so spots in the everyday lineup could still be available for both Jones and Gonzalez moving forward. Jones' move to the bench comes after he went 1-for-10 with five strikeouts over his last three starts.

Resting against lefty
Jones is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
With the Rays bringing a tough lefty (All-Star Shane McClanahan) to the hill Sunday, the lefty-hitting Jones will retreat to the bench for the second time in the series. The righty-hitting Alex Call will replace Jones as the Guardians' starting right fielder.

Riding pine Friday
Jones isn't starting Friday's game against the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Jones is getting a breather after he went 4-for-15 with a homer, two doubles, four runs and four RBI over the last four games. Franmil Reyes is shifting to right field while Ernie Clement enters the lineup at third base.
Jul 27, 2022
Racks up three hits
Jones went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, one RBI and three runs scored in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
This was Jones' first three-hit game in the majors, and also his first with multiple extra-base hits. The 24-year-old has gone 6-for-22 (.273) with three doubles and a home run in six games since the All-Star break. He's slashing .306/.404/.531 with two homers, five doubles, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored through 16 contests.

Three-run homer in win
Jones went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's victory over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Jones went deep for a three-run shot off Josh Winckowski in the top of the third inning, giving the Guardians a commanding 5-0 lead. The 24-year-old has now gone deep twice in 15 games since making his MLB debut July 8. Since he went 7-for-13 over his first four games, Jones has gone 5-for-32 with a homer, a double, four RBI and four runs over his last 11 contests. Overall, the rookie is batting .267 with two long balls, 12 RBI and seven runs scored over his first 45 big-league at-bats.

Breather Sunday
Jones will sit Sunday against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Jones will get a day off after he went 2-for-10 with a double and two runs scored in the first three games of the series. Franmil Reyes will slide over to right field while Josh Naylor handles designated hitter and bats third versus Chicago.

Retreats to bench for nightcap
Jones is out of the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Following his call-up from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Jones proceeded to start in right field in each of the Guardians' last five games, including the team's 4-1 win in Game 1 of the twin bill. Ernie Clement will enter the starting nine in his stead in Game 2, but Jones should be secure in an everyday role for the time being. Even after an 0-for-3 showing in the early game, Jones is still getting on base at a .526 clip through his first five big-league contests.
Jul 11, 2022
Drives in four runs
Jones went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's 8-4 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Jones knocked a two-run single during Cleveland's five-run first inning. He then drilled a two-run double in the fifth. Jones has produced three multi-hit games through four career MLB appearances, giving him a terrific .538/.625/.923 slash line. Jones has three extra-base hits and eight RBI through 16 career plate appearances.

Crushes first big-league homer
Jones went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a pair of walks in Saturday's 13-1 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Jones' first major-league homer was a no-doubter, a 109.2 mph rocket with an estimated distance of 457 feet to right-center field off Royals reliever Jackson Kowar. Considering Jones has only three homers among 10 extra-base hits in 23 games with Triple-A Columbus this year, the display of power Saturday was a little stunning. The 24-year-old is 4-for-7 with a home, four RBI, a double and two walks through his first two games for the Guardians, and he's played time in right field after coming up through the minors as a third baseman. If the bat stays hot, manager Terry Francona may need to try Jones at multiple positions in an effort to keep him in the lineup, though the rookie's defense is not his best tool.
Jul 8, 2022
Two hits in debut
Jones went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Jones laced an RBI double off of Brady Singer in his first career MLB at-bat Friday. He finished the day with a pair of hits before Oscar Mercado pinch-ran for him in the seventh inning. The 24-year-old posted an impressive .917 OPS through 23 games with Triple-A Columbus prior to his call-up.
Jul 8, 2022
Called up, starting Friday
Jones was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Jones slashed .311/.417/.500 with three homers, 25 RBI, 21 runs and four stolen bases in Columbus to begin the season, and he'll make his major-league debut Friday against the Royals while starting in right field and batting seventh. Since Oscar Gonzalez (abdomen) is on the injured list, Jones should have a chance to carve out playing time in right field in the near future.
Jul 8, 2022
Called up, per report
Jones will be recalled by the Guardians on Friday, Guardians Prospective reports.
ANALYSIS
While nothing has been confirmed, there are rumblings that Jones will join the Guardians in Kansas City, perhaps to step in to right field while Oscar Gonzalez (abdomen) is on the injured list. A second-round pick in 2016, Jones has improved significantly on his line with Triple-A Columbus in his second go-around at that level, slashing .311/.417/.500. He's been limited to just 23 games this season, however, due to ankle and back issues. Jones is already on the 40-man roster.

Returning to action Monday
Jones (ankle/back) will make his season debut at Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent left ankle surgery during the offseason and also dealt with a lower-back injury that prevented him from appearing in any games to begin the 2022 campaign. However, he slashed .238/.356/.431 with 13 homers, 60 runs, 48 RBI and 10 stolen bases over 99 games in Columbus last year and will have a chance to pick up where he left off now that he's back to full health.

Working through ankle, back issues
Jones (ankle) has progressed to throwing from 150 feet, hitting in the batting cage and shagging fly balls in the outfield at extended spring training in Arizona, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' start to the 2022 season has been delayed by his continued rehab from left ankle surgery as well as a lower-back issue, but he's said to be free of symptoms of both injuries. Since he's not yet taking part in live batting practice or full fielding drills, he's likely still multiple weeks away from making his 2022 debut for Triple-A Columbus. Once healthy, Jones is expected to see reps at third base and right field at Columbus, where he slashed .238/.356/.431 over 407 plate appearances a season ago.

Begins year on IL
Triple-A Columbus placed Jones (ankle) on its 7-day injured list April 5.
ANALYSIS
Jones was cleared to resume baseball activities in spring training, but he's not yet ready to test his surgically-repaired left ankle in games. Before getting surgery last September, Jones logged 407 plate appearances for Columbus and produced a .238/.356/.431 slash line across 99 games.
Mar 19, 2022
Beginning baseball activities
Jones (ankle) is set to begin baseball activities but has not been cleared to play, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent ankle surgery in September after suffering a high-ankle sprain. He's a little bit behind the expected pace, but it's not clear if he'll miss Triple-A Columbus' Opening Day. He'll need to take a step up in 2022 after finishing last year with a .238/.356/.431 slash line, 13 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 48 RBI and 60 runs scored in 407 plate appearances. If he receives his call-up this season, he'd likely get a look in the outfield or at first base -- Jose Ramirez is the Guardians' everyday third baseman, which somewhat blocks Jones at his natural position.
Sep 18, 2021
Set for surgery
Jones is expected undergo surgery to stabilize his high ankle sprain, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones suffered the injury in late August. He'll finish the year with a .238/.356/.431 slash line in 99 games for Triple-A Columbus. He homered 13 times and stole 10 bases but also struck out 30.0 percent of the time. He's expected to be ready to go by spring training.
Sep 2, 2021
Placed on injured list
Jones was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a left ankle sprain Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Jones exited Sunday's game at Triple-A Columbus due to his ankle injury and hasn't made any appearances since then. The 23-year-old had reached base safely in each of his last 11 games and slashed .372/.462/.581 with two home runs, three doubles, 16 runs, seven RBI and a stolen base during that time. It's not yet clear whether he'll miss more than the minimum of seven days.

Tweaks ankle Sunday
Jones was removed from Triple-A Columbus' game Sunday against Memphis with a left ankle sprain.
ANALYSIS
The third baseman/outfielder went 1-for-4 with a walk before departing with the injury. Over 99 games at Columbus this season, Jones is hitting .238 with 13 home runs and 10 steals while striking out in 30 percent of his plate appearances.
