Bido agreed to a major-league deal with the Athletics on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

After being non-tendered by Pittsburgh on Friday, Bido quickly recaptured a 40-man roster spot with another organization in rebuilding mode. The 28-year-old right-hander reached the majors for the first time in 2023, going 2-5 with a 5.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over 50.2 innings spanning 16 appearances (nine starts) with the Pirates. Bido has two minor-league options remaining, so if he falls short in his bid for an Opening Day roster spot with the Athletics, he'll provide rotation depth at the Triple-A level.

Bido posted a less-than-promising 5.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 48:21 K:BB over his first 50.2 big-league innings in 2023. The 28-year-old right-hander is now a free agent.

Bido will be making his ninth start of the season for Pittsburgh, but he may not be asked to work as deep into Friday's outing as he has for most of those other eight starts. Before being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis last Sunday, Bido hadn't recorded more than four outs in any of his seven appearances for the affiliate in September. The Pirates don't have an obvious candidate to work in bulk relief behind Bido and may treat Friday's contest as more of a bullpen day.

The right-hander has a 6.36 ERA across 46.2 big-league innings this season, and he'll rejoin the big club with Bailey Falter (neck) headed to the injured list. Bido has started in eight of his 14 MLB outings this year, though it's unclear if he'll step into the rotation for Falter.

Bido is tentatively lined up for a more favorable road outing in St. Louis his next time out, though it's unclear how long the Pirates will tolerate his poor performance.

Bido is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind opening pitcher Colin Selby in Saturday's game against the Cubs, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Selby hasn't covered more than two innings in any of his appearances in the majors or minors this season, so he's unlikely to work more than once through the Cubs' batting order before bowing out of the contest. Bido, who hasn't pitched since last Sunday, should be well rested and ready to cover multiple frames out of the bullpen once Selby exits. Over seven outings since the All-Star break spanning 20 innings, Bido has gone 1-3 with a 5.85 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB.

Bido (2-4) took the loss Sunday against the Twins. He allowed two runs on four hits and zero walks while striking out six over 3.1 innings.

Bido threw 69 pitches in bulk-relief work behind opener Ryan Borucki and despite the two runs allowed pitched effectively with six strikeouts and no walks. Bido has previously started eight games for the Pirates, but this was his second extended relief outing. It remains to be seen whether he'll officially rejoin the rotation or continue to work extended innings in relief.

After being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis this past weekend, Bido had been serving in a relief role for the Pirates, making one- and three-inning appearances Sunday versus the Reds and Monday versus the Mets, respectively. Prior to his brief demotion to the minors, Bido had been serving as a part-time starter for the Pirates, so he should be stretched out enough to provide Pittsburgh with a decent amount of length as he steps back into the rotation this weekend. Through 41 innings in the big leagues this season, Bido owns a 5.05 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 37:15 K:BB.

With Carmen Mlodzinski (elbow) headed for the injured list, Bido will come up from Triple-A to fill the open bullpen spot. Bido holds a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP through 37 innings in the majors this season and is expected to relieve Andre Jackson out of the bullpen Saturday against the Reds.

Bido was charged with four runs (three earned) over four innings against Atlanta on Monday, leaving him with a 7.11 ERA since the All-Star break. It's uncertain who will replace Bido in the Pittsburgh rotation, but the Pirates may be ready to give Luis Ortiz another look.

After striking out Zach McKinstry to open the game, Bido served up a hanging changeup to Riley Greene in the next at-bat, which the center fielder crushed over the right field wall to put the Tigers up 1-0. The right-hander would then hold the Tigers scoreless over the next two innings before hitting a wall in the fourth, walking Kerry Carpenter to open the frame and then beaning Matt Vierling in the following at-bat. Bido was tagged for four runs in the contest for only the second time this season while it marked his first loss since June 19.
