Out of lineup
Kwan is out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has started in every game since Aug. 26, so this will be a rare appearance on the bench. In the 22 games since then, the outfielder has slashed .303/.396/.393.

Kwan went 2-for-2 with three walks, a double, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
It was a huge night from the leadoff spot for Kwan, who is having a blistering finish to the season even as the Guardians fade out of the playoff picture. Over his last 20 games, the 26-year-old is slashing .329/.427/.418 with four steals, 10 RBI and 12 runs, and Kwan has reached base multiple times in five of the last six contests.

Kwan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-5 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Kwan drew a walk to open the contest before coming around to score on a Jose Ramirez home run in the next at-bat. He would come home a second time in the very next inning after reaching via single and stealing second. The left fielder finished with two hits in the contest, marking his fourth multi-hit performance this month and he's now hit safely in three of his last four games. Kwan has also swiped four bags already in September after stealing a combined three bases over the previous two months.

Picks up steal in loss
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a stolen base in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan was on the front end of a double steal with Jose Ramirez in the fifth inning. This was Kwan's third steal in September and his 19th of the season, matching his total as a rookie from last season. The outfielder is hitting .289 (11-for-38) in September, a modest improvement on his .272 mark for the year. He's added five home runs, 49 RBI, 84 runs scored, 32 doubles and six triples through 141 contests.

Kwan went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan went just 1-for-12 with two walks over this week's three-game series versus the Twins, but he quickly broke out of the small slump. The outfielder was also caught stealing once Thursday. He's collected five multi-hit efforts over his last 13 games and has a .271/.338/.373 slash line with five home runs, 18 steals, 48 RBI and 82 runs scored over 138 contests this season.

Records 18th steal
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
After stealing just one base in all of August, Kwan has already swiped two bags over three games in September. He's hit safely in six straight games, going 10-for-27 (.370) over that span. The leadoff hitter is batting .272 with 18 thefts, five home runs, 47 RBI and 80 runs scored over 134 contests this season.
Sep 2, 2023
Notches steal Friday
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Kwan also struck out two times in the contest. That's a rare misstep for the well-disciplined leadoff hitter -- he has done that just 10 times all year while posting a 10.6 strikeout rate and 8.7 walk rate. The steal was his first since Aug. 4, and Kwan hit a decent .258 over 22 contests between thefts. For the season, he's at a .271/.337/.378 slash line with five home runs, 17 steals, 45 RBI and 78 runs scored through 132 contests.
Aug 30, 2023
Logs three hits
Kwan went 3-for-5 in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan did a good job of setting the table atop the order, but the Guardians couldn't bring him home in this contest. He's produced six multi-hit efforts over his last 16 games, going 19-for-67 (.284) in that span. It's a little better than his .270/.337/.376 slash line through 130 contests this season. Kwan has added five home runs, 16 stolen bases, 44 RBI and 78 runs scored as the Guardians' primary leadoff hitter.
Aug 17, 2023

Aug 10, 2023
Getting breather Thursday

Jul 31, 2023
Goes yard in win
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and a walk in Sunday's win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan took Michael Kopech deep to right field to kick things off in the fifth. He's had himself quite a run at the plate over the last week, as he hit .394/.459/.667 with four extra-base hits, five RBI, four runs and a 4:3 BB:K in eight games. The 25-year-old has shown spectacular patience with his at-bats again this year. He currently sits fourth in strikeout percentage and 10th with a .885 BB/K percentage.

Kwan went 3-for-4 in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has logged multiple hits in six of his last 13 games, batting .364 over that span. He's even tallied seven extra-base hits in that span, no small feat for a contact hitter. The Guardians' leadoff man is slashing .276/.347/.378 with four home runs, 15 stolen bases, 36 RBI and 69 runs scored through 104 contests.
Jul 24, 2023
Four-hit effort in loss
Kwan went 4-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Sunday's 8-5 extra-inning loss to the Phillies.
ANALYSIS
Kwan started the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first inning, and he continued to make an impact from there. He also had an RBI single in the 10th, though the Guardians' rally stalled out. The outfielder is batting .385 (15-for-39) since the All-Star break, and he's hit two of his four homers this season over that nine-game span. For the season, he's slashing .275/.346/.378 with 15 stolen bases, 34 RBI and 67 runs scored over 98 contests as Cleveland's primary leadoff hitter.
Jul 20, 2023
Records 15th steal
Kwan went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Kwan's five-game hitting streak came to an end, but he was able to pick up his second steal of the month. The outfielder has gotten back to his reputation as a contact hitter in July, batting .311 with a 5:3 BB:K over 15 contests this month. For the season, he's slashing .269/.343/.366 with 15 steals, three home runs, 31 RBI and 65 runs scored over 95 games.
Jul 16, 2023
Posts four hits in loss
Kwan went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and three total RBI in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has started to get back to his contact-hitting ways, collecting seven multi-hit efforts over his last 14 contests. This was arguably his best game of the season to date. The outfielder lifted his slash line to .270/.341/.364 with three homers, 30 RBI, 60 runs scored, 14 stolen bases, 22 doubles and two triples through 92 games.
Jul 4, 2023
Picks up steal
Kwan went 2-for-5 with one RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Kwan tied the game at 4-4 with his RBI single in the seventh inning. With multiple hits in four of his last six games, the outfielder's contact-based approach seems to be working for him again after a slow start to the season. He's slashing .268/.343/.357 with 14 steals, two home runs, 26 RBI and 58 runs scored through 84 games.
Jul 4, 2023
Raps out three hits
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Monday's 4-2 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Kwan had some shoulder soreness Sunday that kept him out of the lineup versus the Cubs. The outfielder returned in a big way, delivering his third multi-hit effort in his last five games. Kwan hit just .257 in June, and he's batting .266 with a .699 OPS through 83 contests overall. He's added two home runs, 25 RBI, 56 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, 20 doubles and two triples while routinely working out of the leadoff spot. Assuming the shoulder issue doesn't flare up again, he should remain in a near-everyday role.
Jul 3, 2023
Starting in series opener
Kwan will start in left field and bat leadoff in Monday's series opener versus Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
After starting in all but two of the Guardians' first 80 games of the season, Kwan was on the bench twice over the weekend during Cleveland's three-game set with the Cubs. Kwan's absence from the lineup Friday was believed to be a rest day, but according to MLB.com, he sat out Sunday's 8-6 win after he experienced lingering soreness in his shoulder, stemming from a collision with the left field wall Saturday. Fortunately, the day off appears to be all that Kwan needed to overcome the shoulder issue, so he'll most likely start all seven of Cleveland's games this week before the Guardians head into the All-Star break.
Jul 2, 2023
Sitting again in Chicago
Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is on the bench for just the fourth time all season, though he's now been out of the lineup twice this weekend alone. The Guardians haven't indicated that Kwan is dealing with an injury, though it's fair to wonder if that's the case, given that he's performed well enough of late to continue warranting everyday at-bats. Fantasy managers will probably want to check back in on Kwan's status when Cleveland opens a series with Atlanta on Monday.
Jun 30, 2023
Sitting out Friday
Kwan is not in the lineup for Friday's contest versus the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
It's a rare day off for Kwan, who will receive just his third day of rest this season. David Fry is starting in left field and Tyler Freeman is getting a shot in the leadoff spot.
Jun 25, 2023
Registers 13th steal
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is starting to look more like himself at the plate with an eight-game hitting streak. In that span, he's gone 12-for-35 (.343) with two steals, four RBI and eight runs scored. The light-hitting outfielder is up to a .263/.340/.355 slash line with 13 thefts, two home runs, 25 RBI and 51 runs scored through 76 contests. He's weathered a slow start to the year and should continue to be an on-base machine going forward.
Jun 18, 2023
Productive in big win
Kwan went 1-for-6 with a triple, three RBI and four runs scored in Sunday's 12-3 win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
While Kwan didn't hit all that well, he was able to get on base in a variety of ways, and the Guardians had no trouble bringing him home. It was the first time he scored four runs in a game this season, and just the second time he's knocked in three. The outfielder is up to a .261/.339/.352 slash line with 24 RBI, 48 runs scored, two home runs and 12 stolen bases through 71 contests.
Jun 18, 2023
Racks up four hits, steal
Kwan went 4-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Kwan had collected a total of four hits over his last six contests before Saturday's strong showing. The outfielder still went a fifth straight game without an extra-base hit. He's up to a .263/.342/.349 slash line with two home runs, 21 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 44 runs scored through 70 contests as the Guardians' primary leadoff hitter.
Jun 15, 2023
Sitting versus lefty
Kwan isn't in Cleveland's lineup for Thursday's game against San Diego.
ANALYSIS
The Padres will begin the game with southpaw Ryan Weathers on the mound, meaning the left-handed bat of Kwan will remain in the dugout Thursday. Will Brennan will shift over to cover left field, allowing Gabriel Arias to start in right and bat sixth.
Jun 11, 2023
Swipes bag Saturday
Kwan went 1-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Kwan's still struggling to make the same kind of consistent contact in 2023 as he did a year ago. He's 9-for-39 (.231) through his first nine games in June, though three of those hits have gone for extra bases. Overall, the outfielder is slashing .258/.341/.348 with two home runs, 11 steals, 20 RBI and 43 runs scored over 64 contests. Despite the flaws in his game, he remains the Guardians' leadoff hitter.
Jun 4, 2023
Belts second homer
Kwan went 2-for-5 with a solo home run in a 4-2 victory versus the Twins on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Kwan put the final run on the board in the ninth inning with a solo shot to right field. The long ball was was his second of the season and eighth of his career through 205 major-league games. Any homers he produces should be seen as a bonus by his fantasy managers, as Kwan's contributions are mostly limited to using his solid on-base skills to swipe bases and score runs.
Jun 1, 2023
Swipes one, scores three in win
Kwan went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and one steal in Wednesday's 12-8 win over the Orioles.
ANALYSIS
Kwan notched multiple hits for the third time over Cleveland's past four games and recorded his fourth three-hit outing of the season. The second-year outfielder is one of the best contact hitters in MLB, and his speed makes him an instant threat whenever he's on base. He's slashing .263/.345/.346 across 55 games, which is down from his superb rookie season last year, but he's still locked into the leadoff spot on a regular basis.
May 14, 2023
Perfect at plate Saturday
Kwan 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan had gone 0-for-8 over his previous two contests before his strong effort Saturday. He's hit a double in three of the last five games. For the season, the second-year outfielder is slashing .273/.360/.351 with a home run, 12 RBI, nine steals and 22 runs scored through 39 contests.
May 7, 2023
Hits go-ahead homer
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan gave the Guardians the lead for good with his seventh-inning solo shot. It was a great time for him to knock his first homer of the season. He's hit well over the last two weeks, going 17-for-55 (.309) over his last 13 contests. The outfielder has a .267/.355/.336 slash line, 12 RBI, 16 runs scored, eight stolen bases, four doubles and a triple through 33 games this season.
May 3, 2023
Swipes eighth bag
Kwan went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
While none of his contact resulted in a hit, Kwan was still able to contribute when he did reach base. The 25-year-old offers no power, but he's got more walks (18) than strikeouts (15) once again to help fuel a .269/.360/.319 slash line that comes with 11 RBI, 15 runs and eight steals in 30 games.
Apr 30, 2023
Three hits in Saturday's loss
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 8-7 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has four multi-hit efforts in his last seven games, and he's batting .387 (12-for-31) in that span. Only one of those hits, a double, has gone for extra bases. The outfielder is up to a .280/.373/.327 slash line with no home runs, seven stolen bases, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, three doubles and a triple through 27 contests.
Apr 26, 2023
Steals in consecutive contests
Kwan went 0-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
While Kwan's modest four-game hitting streak came to an end, he notched steals in consecutive contests for the third time already this season. The outfielder is up to seven thefts in eight attempts through 25 contests. While he's hitting a pedestrian .258, he's getting on base at a .357 clip, aided by a 13.9 percent walk rate. It appears he's in little danger of losing his spot atop the Guardians' order any time soon.
Apr 26, 2023
Swipes sixth bag
Kwan went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has taken full advantage of MLB's rule changes to boost the running game, swiping six bags in seven attempts through 25 games after going 19-for-24 in 147 games as a rookie in 2022. Kwan has yet to hit a homer this season though, and his .266/.355/.319 has been kept afloat by a 12.7 percent walk rate, giving him a limited fantasy profile.
Apr 25, 2023
Three hits in loss to Rox
Kwan went 3-for-4 with a double in Monday's 6-0 loss to the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old did his job as the leadoff hitter, but unfortunately the rest of the Guardians' lineup went a combined 1-for-26 behind him. Kwan isn't having quite the same success on balls in play so far in 2023 that he did last year, but he's still reaching base at a strong clip, slashing .267/.358/.322 with five steals, 10 runs and 11 RBI through 23 games.
Apr 16, 2023
Two hits, stolen base in loss
Kwan went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a run scored and one steal in Sunday's loss against Washington.
ANALYSIS
Kwan, serving as the DH Sunday, tied the game 2-2 with an RBI single in the third inning before stealing second and scoring on a Josh Bell double. Kwan would add a second RBI in the seventh, driving in Will Brennan with another base hit. The two-hit game snapped an 0-for-8 stretch for the 25-year-old Kwan. He's now slashing .259/.362/.310 with five RBI, eight runs scored and five stolen bases early in the season.
Apr 16, 2023
Records fourth theft
Kwan went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
It's still early in the season, but Kwan appears to be in a sophomore slump. He's gone just 2-for-18 over the last five games, dropping his season average to .246 through 15 contests overall. Despite the lackluster hitting, Kwan remains in the leadoff spot. He's picked up four steals in five attempts while adding eight RBI and seven runs scored. With Myles Straw both hitting and running well to start the season, Kwan may need to get things turned around quickly to stay at the top of the order.
Apr 11, 2023
Adds another steal in win
Kwan went 0-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 3-2 win over the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Kwan went hitless for the third time in 11 games this season, and he left seven runners on base. On the bright side, he was able to draw multiple walks for the second contest in a row, and his run ended up being the Guardians' margin of victory. The contact-hitting outfielder is slashing a solid .283/.364/.370 with eight RBI, two steals and five runs scored.
Apr 10, 2023
Contributes steal Sunday
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a triple, a pair of walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Kwan picked up his second steal of the season in the 10th inning after getting aboard with an intentional walk. The outfielder has hit safely in eight of 10 games so far. He's slashing .302/.360/.495 with eight RBI and four runs scored while serving as the Guardians' leadoff hitter.
Apr 6, 2023
Nabs first steal
Kwan went 2-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base in a 6-4 extra-inning win against the Athletics on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has been very productive from the leadoff spot this season, as he extended his hitting streak to six games with Wednesday's performance. It was his third straight multi-hit game and fourth overall through seven contests this season. Perhaps the only disappointing aspect of Kwan's performance thus far is that he hadn't attempted any thefts prior to Wednesday, but he was active on the basepaths in the victory, stealing one base and getting picked off on another occasion. The outfielder tallied 19 thefts in 24 attempts last season, and though he has minimal power, his ability to get on base and collect steals gives him some appeal in most fantasy leagues.
Apr 1, 2023
Drives in five in Friday's win
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and five RBI in Friday's 9-4 win over the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
The Guardians' leadoff hitter was at his pesky best, seeing 38 total pitches across his six plate appearances and putting his team in the lead for good in the fourth inning with a two-run double that he slashed just inside the foul line past third base. He also chipped in a sacrifice fly and a two-run single. Kwan's .298 batting average last season was buoyed by a .323 BABIP, but given his contact-heavy approach, those numbers seem eminently repeatable in 2023.
Mar 5, 2023
Solid start to spring
Kwan has gone 3-for-12 with two runs scored and two strikeouts across four Cactus League games.
ANALYSIS
There's little reason to worry about Kwan's performance at the plate in the spring. He posted a 62:60 BB:K last year while slashing .298/.373/.400 and stealing 19 bases across 147 games. He could regress a slight amount from his .323 BABIP as a rookie last year, but his sharp eye at the plate and contact hitting should keep him in the leadoff role barring a significant slump.
Oct 2, 2022
Receives Sunday off
Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan started the past 12 games and will take a seat after he posted a 1.088 OPS with two home runs, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored during that span. Will Brennan will shift to left field while Oscar Gonzalez starts in right.
Sep 28, 2022
Reaches base four times
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Kwan supplied an RBI single in the fourth inning and scored on hits by Jose Ramirez in the third and 11th frames. This was the seventh multi-hit effort in 10 games for Kwan, who is batting a stellar .458 (22-for-48) in that span. The rookie outfielder is up to a .301/.376/.402 slash line with six home runs, 50 RBI, 86 runs scored and 19 stolen bases through 140 contests.
Sep 25, 2022
Fills box score Sunday
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI, two runs scored and two steals in Sunday's 10-4 win over the Rangers.

Kwan's big day Sunday was capped by a grand slam in the top of the eighth inning to put Cleveland up 10-2 and all but seal the game. His five RBI and two stolen bases were both career highs. Additionally, with six total bases on the day, his slugging percentage improved to .400 on the season, the highest it's been since May 14.
Sep 22, 2022
Stays hot with homer
Kwan went 3-for-5 with one homer, two runs scored and one steal in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan led off the fourth inning with a homer off righty starter Lance Lynn to increase Cleveland's lead to six. The outfielder has been on a crazy run in his last five games going 14-for-26 with a .769 slugging percentage. The 24-year-old rookie has also recorded five steals in his last 12 games.
Sep 21, 2022
Stays hot at plate
Kwan went 4-for-6 with two RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-7 extra-innings win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is seeing the ball really well of late, as he's gone 11-for-21 (.524) across his last four games. He's up to eight multi-hit efforts in September, raising his season slash line to .295/.373/.386 through 134 contests. The rookie outfielder has added four home runs, 42 RBI, 78 runs scored and 16 stolen bases in 21 attempts this year.
Sep 18, 2022
Not in Sunday's lineup
Kwan is not in Sunday's lineup against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan amassed five hits and a walk while playing in both games of Saturday's doubleheader, so he will get a breather in this day game. Richie Palacios is starting in left field and hitting sixth.
Sep 13, 2022
Steals 15th base
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in a 3-1 win Tuesday over the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan singled in the fifth and walked and stole a base in the seventh. It was his 15th stolen base in 20 attempts this season and third in the last four games. He's reached base safely in 11 of 12 games in September and has posted a .271/.375/.333 slash line with one homer this month.
Sep 11, 2022
Homers and steals base Sunday
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two runs scored and a stolen base in Sunday's win over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Kwan led the charge for the Guardians on Sunday with three hits, including his fourth homer on the season. The rookie also swiped his 14th bag after leading off the game with a base hit. Kwan's big day at the plate comes as he was slashing .194/.326/.194 in September entering Sunday as he and the Guardians look to secure the AL Central crown down the stretch.
Sep 11, 2022
Walks four times, scores twice
Kwan went 0-for-1 with four walks, a stolen base and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan embodied patience Saturday, drawing walks against three different pitchers. He scored in the first and fourth innings, and he added a steal for the first time since Aug. 14. The rookie outfielder is now walking at a 10.4 percent clip, compared to a 9.5 percent strikeout rate. He's added a steady .287/.366/.374 slash line with 13 steals, three home runs, 37 RBI and 69 runs scored through 124 contests.
Aug 18, 2022
Tallies RBI during winning rally
Kwan went 2-for-5 with one double, one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 victory over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Kwan tallied an RBI double off lefty reliever Andrew Chafin in the eighth to draw Cleveland within one and eventually scored to take the lead on a double from Jose Ramirez. Although his double came off a lefty, the outfielder has more power against righties with a .414 slugging percentage in 309 at-bats compared to a .321 slugging percentage in 81 at-bats against lefties. The 24-year-old has hit very well lately with an .873 OPS in 54 at-bats during his last 14 games.

Kwan went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan was also caught stealing once, putting him at 12-for-16 in stolen base attempts this season. The contact-hitting rookie has elevated his play in August, slashing .339/.439/.464 through 15 contests this month. For the season, he's batting .301 -- the highest average he's had since May 9 -- with a .768 OPS, three home runs, 30 RBI and 60 runs scored as the Guardians' everyday leadoff hitter.

Records steal Saturday
Kwan went 0-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Aug 12, 2022

Aug 11, 2022
Two hits including triple in win
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored in Wednesday's win against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan ripped a leadoff triple to open the game in the top of the first inning, later coming around to score on a Jose Ramirez single. The rookie also added a single in the second frame and the multi-hit effort was his second in three games and eighth over 19 games since the All-Star break. Kwan has now secured at least one hit in 21 out of his last 22 games, batting .355 with nine extra-base hits, 19 runs, five RBI and four stolen bases over that stretch.
Aug 7, 2022
Rejoins starting nine
Kwan (foot) will start in left field and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Kwan was withheld from Saturday's 4-1 win after fouling a ball off his foot a night earlier, but his return to the lineup a day later implies that his one-game absence was likely precautionary. Since the beginning of July, the rookie has settled back into a groove at the plate, producing a .312 average and .354 on-base percentage while scoring 19 runs and adding four steals over a stretch of 33 games.
Aug 6, 2022
Out of lineup Saturday
Kwan (foot) is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Kwan fouled a pitch off hit left foot and exited Friday's game, and while the Guardians said his removal was precautionary, it would seem there is some lingering soreness. Andres Gimenez will move up to the leadoff spot against right-hander Luis Garcia as Will Benson takes over for Kwan in left field.
Aug 5, 2022
Hitting streak ends with early exit
Kwan left Friday's game against the Astros with a left foot contusion, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
He fouled a pitch off his foot and was removed as a precaution. The timing of this injury is unfortunate, as it ends Kwan's 18-game hitting streak. He went 0-for-2 before exiting. Kwan hit .350 with one home run, six doubles and four steals during that hitting streak.
Aug 2, 2022
Hit streak at 15 games
Kwan went 2-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base in Monday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
The rookie extended his hitting streak to 15 games with another dynamic performance from the top of the order. Kwan is batting .362 (25-for-69) during that stretch, pushing his slash line on the season to .297/.370/.381 with two homers, nine steals, 28 RBI and 49 runs through 90 contests.
Jul 30, 2022
Steals base, scores twice
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Friday's 4-1 win over the Rays.
ANALYSIS
Kwan continues to be locked in at the plate -- he's posted three hits in four of the 12 games during his current hitting streak. In that span, he's batting .382 (21-for-55). The outfielder's found a home atop the Guardians' lineup, and he's maintained a .298/.369/.382 slash line with two home runs, eight stolen bases, 28 RBI and 48 runs scored in 87 contests overall. Kwan's also maintained impressive contact skills with a tiny 8.3 percent strikeout rate in his first big-league campaign.
Jul 26, 2022
Three hits, stolen base
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a run scored and stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan notched a single in the second and sixth frames. He later added another base-knock and stole second before coming around to score in the eighth inning. The rookie is now up to seven stolen bases on the year and the multi-hit effort was his fourth in six games since the All-Star break. Over that stretch, Kwan is batting .448 with a homer, four RBI, seven runs and two stolen bases. He's now batting .295 with two homers, 27 RBI, 46 runs and seven stolen bases over 305 at-bats in 84 games while serving as the Guardians' primary leadoff option this year.
Jul 24, 2022
Knocks solo homer
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan ripped a solo shot off of Liam Hendriks in the ninth inning; it was his season of the season and his first since May 7, snapping a 62-game homerless drought. In 21 games this month, Kwan has gone 27-for-87 (.310) with seven extra-base hits. The rookie outfielder now owns a .292/.369/.380 slash line through 337 plate appearances.
Jul 23, 2022
Three hits, two RBI in Game 1 win
Kwan went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in the Guardians' Game 1 victory over the White Sox in Saturday's doubleheader.
ANALYSIS
Kwan opened the game with a leadoff single before ripping an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning and coming around to score later in the frame. He also added another RBI and run scored in the ninth frame. Kwan is now 6-for-10 with a double, four runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base over the first two contests of the second half. The outfielder's batting average is now up to .290 on the campaign.
Jul 23, 2022
Three more hits Friday
Kwan went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in Friday's 8-2 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old rookie remains arguably the most unusual player in the majors. He's batting .313 (21-for-67) over his last 16 games and .316 since the beginning of June as he proves his all-contact approach can work at the highest level, and Kwan's six steals in 79 games on the season give him a smidge of fantasy value outside of his batting average. His Statcast numbers can induce whiplash, however. Kwan ranks in the 100th percentile in strikeout rate and whiff rate -- in other words, there is literally no one better in baseball at getting their bat on the ball -- but in the fifth percentile or lower in hard-hit rate, barrel rate and average exit velocity.
Jul 13, 2022
Four hits across doubleheader
Kwan went 4-for-8 with a walk and a run scored across both games of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
He went 2-for-4 in both contests, giving the outfielder six multi-hit efforts through 13 games in July. Kwan is slashing .288/.339/.346 this month while adding four RBI, three runs scored and three doubles. That's in line with his .285/.368/.362 slash line for the season, and his contact-focused approach has made him a reliable option as the Guardians' leadoff hitter.
Jul 10, 2022
Two doubles in three-hit game
Kwan went 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 13-1 rout of the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has four multi-hit efforts in his last 11 games, though he's also posted five 0-fers in that stretch. The rookie outfielder has maintained a solid .279/.363/.361 slash line one home run, 23 RBI, 34 runs scored, five stolen bases, 11 doubles and three triples in 70 contests. There's not much power in his bat, but his steady eye (30:23 BB:K) has earned him a regular place atop the Guardians' lineup.
Jul 6, 2022
Reaches base three times
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and an RBI on Wednesday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan doubled in a run in the fifth inning to record his 21st RBI of the season. He's been cold at the plate of late, hitting just .205 with four RBI and four runs scored across his last 11 games. Overall, Kwan has maintained a decent .274/.362/.350 line across 271 plate appearances, though he has only one home run and five stolen bases for the season.
Jul 2, 2022
Not starting nightcap
Kwan isn't starting the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Kwan led off in the first game of the twin bill and went 0-for-5 with an RBI and two strikeouts. He's now hitless in his last eight at-bats and will retreat to the bench while Ernie Clement starts in left field.
Jun 29, 2022
Scores thrice Wednesday
Kwan went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan went 0-for-6 with two walks in Tuesday's doubleheader, but he was able to get back to productive hitting Wednesday. The rookie outfielder has four multi-hit efforts in his last nine games, going 13-for-33 (.394) in that span. For the season, he's slashing .288/.374/.371 with one home run, 18 RBI, 32 runs scored and five steals in 60 contests. He should continue to regularly bat leadoff versus right-handed pitchers, and he could start to get more looks against southpaws if his bat stays hot.
Jun 26, 2022
Resting versus lefty
Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Kwan will take a seat against a lefty (Rich Hill) for the second time in four games, allowing the righty-hitting Ernie Clement to enter the lineup in left field. During his two starts in the series with Boston, Kwan went 3-for-8 with a walk, an RBI and a run.
Jun 23, 2022
Sitting against lefty
Kwan isn't starting Thursday's series finale against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has been red hot recently, going 7-for-13 with a triple, an RBI and three runs over his last three contests, but he will take a seat Thursday as the Guardians face left-hander Drew Smeltzer on the mound. Franmil Reyes will get the start in left field and bat fifth in the series finale.
Jun 22, 2022
Four-hit night
Kwan went 4-for-6 with a run scored in a 6-5 win over the Twins on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Kwan caught the attention of fantasy managers with an offensive barrage on the season's opening weekend. After seeing his roster rate rise immediately afterwards, Kwan then cooled off considerably in May, slashing a weak 173/.271/.253 over the span of the month. He has since gotten back into a groove and after Tuesday's four-hit game he is now slashing .364/.400/.382 in June. He doesn't offer any power but the Guardians like to lead him off against right-handed pitching and he has shown he can hit for average in bursts.
Jun 19, 2022
Sitting versus southpaw
Kwan is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Andre Knott of Bally Sports Ohio reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan started the past two games despite facing a left-handed pitcher, but he'll take a seat Sunday with southpaw Andrew Heaney on the mound for Los Angeles. Oscar Mercado will start in left field and bat sixth for Cleveland.
Jun 15, 2022
Out of Wednesday's lineup
Kwan is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is in the midst of a five-game hit streak during which he's gone 9-for-19 with an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases, but he'll head to the bench Wednesday with southpaw Austin Gomber on the mound for Colorado. Oscar Mercado will start in left field and bat eighth.
Jun 12, 2022
Heads to bench Sunday
Kwan is not in Sunday's lineup against the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is hitting .379 with zero home runs and two steals over his last nine games but he will head to the bench against lefty Cole Irvin. Oscar Mercado will start in left field and bat eighth.
Jun 10, 2022
Stays hot Thursday
Kwan went 3-for-4 with one RBI, one run scored and one steal in Thursday's win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Kwan notched a multi-hit night for a second consecutive game and registered just his second outing of the season with at least three hits. The rookie has also stolen a base in back-to-back games, bringing his season total to four. Across 43 games, Kwan is slashing .271/.368/.368 with one home run and 16 RBI.
Jun 9, 2022
Posts steal in win
Kwan went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-0 win over the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan slumped late in May, but he's gone 7-for-20 (.350) over his last seven games to bounce back early in June. The outfielder has picked up two stolen bases in that stretch and is now 3-for-4 on the basepaths this season. He's added a .257/.355/.357 slash line with a home run, 15 RBI, 21 runs scored, two triples and seven doubles. Kwan should continue to start regularly against right-handed pitchers, but he's lost some playing time to Oscar Mercado and Ernie Clement against southpaws.
Jun 7, 2022
On bench for nightcap
Kwan is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly during the matinee and will sit for Game 2 since southpaw Taylor Hearn is pitching for Texas. Oscar Mercado will take over in left field for Cleveland.
Jun 3, 2022
Sitting against southpaw
Kwan isn't starting Friday's game against Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Kwan will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games since left-hander Bruce Zimmermann is on the mound for the Orioles on Friday. Oscar Mercado is starting in right field and batting eighth.
May 31, 2022
Out of lineup versus lefty
Kwan is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting Kwan, who has gone 3-for-31 at the plate over his last 10 games and is now sitting on a .244 average for the season, will take a seat with southpaw Daniel Lynch on the hill for the Royals. The righty-hitting Oscar Mercado replaces Kwan in the Cleveland outfield.
May 30, 2022
Nabs stolen base
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 7-3 win over the Royals. He was also hit by a pitch.
ANALYSIS
Kwan hasn't done a lot of running in his rookie year -- he's now 2-for-3 in stolen base attempts. The outfielder never had more than 11 steals in a minor-league campaign. He entered Monday on a 2-for-28 skid in his last nine games. For the season, he has a .244/.349/.350 slash line with a home run, 13 RBI, 21 runs scored, one triple and six doubles while seeing regular time in the corner outfield positions.
May 26, 2022
Riding pine against southpaw
Kwan isn't starting Thursday's game against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan started in three of the last four games and went 2-for-11 with a strikeout, but he'll get a breather with left-hander Tarik Skubal on the mound Thursday. Oscar Gonzalez will start in right field and bat sixth while making his major-league debut.
May 24, 2022
Not in Tuesday's lineup
Kwan will sit Tuesday against the Astros.
ANALYSIS
Kwan burst onto the scene with eight hits in his first three games, but since then, he's hit a very pedestrian .212/.310/.303. As a result, he seems to have slipped into something close to a platoon role, as his off day here against Framber Valdez means he's now sat against five of the last seven southpaws the Guardians have faced. Ernie Clement will start in left field while Oscar Mercado starts in right.
May 20, 2022
Hits bench against lefty
Kwan will sit Friday against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan hits the bench against lefty Tarik Skubal, meaning he's now sat against six of the last nine southpaws the Guardians have faced. Ernie Clement will start in left field.
May 10, 2022
Scores three runs, steals bag
Kwan went 1-for-5 with a walk, three runs scored and a stolen base in Monday's 12-9 win over the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan drew a walk and swiped second before coming around to score on an error in the first inning. It was his first career steal and he's now up to 19 runs scored this year after crossing home three times Monday. He's hitting 10-for-37 (.270) during his active nine-game hitting streak.
May 6, 2022
Crushes first career homer
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Thursday against the Blue Jays.
ANALYSIS
Kwan tied the game at two in the third inning with his first career home run. He also extended his hitting streak to five games, during which he's racked up four RBI and three runs scored. Overall, Kwan has maintained an impressive .328/.423/.484 line across 78 plate appearances with a profile built on patience and contact ability.
May 4, 2022
Out for Game 2 of twin bill
Kwan is out of the lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Oscar Mercado will get the start in left field while the lefty-hitting Kwan retreats to the bench for the nightcap with southpaw MacKenzie Gore on the hill for San Diego. Kwan was in the lineup for the Guardians' 5-4 loss in Game 1, going 1-for-5 with an RBI.
May 1, 2022
Two hits in win
Kwan (hamstring) went 2-for-4 in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Athletics.
ANALYSIS
Kwan missed five games with right hamstring tightness, but it didn't slow him down at the plate. The rookie outfielder has enjoyed a meteoric rise to relevance this season, though the potential for regression looms. He's slashing .354/.459/.500 with seven RBI, 10 runs scored, a triple and five doubles in 15 games, but he has yet to hit his first big-league homer. Kwan's line is propped up by a 15.8 percent walk rate and a .386 BABIP -- the patience at the plate is sustainable, but the luck probably won't last all year.
Apr 30, 2022
Returns to lineup
Kwan (hamstring) is starting Saturday's game against Oakland.
ANALYSIS
Kwan missed the last five games with right hamstring tightness, but he'll start in left field and bat second Saturday. Over his five appearances prior to his absence, he went 4-for-17 with three doubles, three runs, an RBI and a walk.
Apr 29, 2022
Out again Friday
Kwan (hamstring) is not in Friday's lineup against the A's.
ANALYSIS
This is the fifth straight game Kwan will miss with right hamstring tightness. Richie Palacios gets another start in left field.
Apr 28, 2022
Remains out of lineup
Kwan (hamstring) isn't starting Thursday against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan was removed from Sunday's game against the Yankees due to right hamstring tightness, and he'll be excluded from the lineup for a fourth straight matchup. Oscar Mercado will start in left field and bat seventh.
Apr 27, 2022
Out again Wednesday
Kwan (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The rookie outfielder will be sidelined for the third straight game after leaving Sunday's contest with right hamstring tightness. It's unclear if Kwan will be available off the bench Wednesday. Richie Palacios will start in left field in his place.
Apr 26, 2022
Sitting again Tuesday
Kwan (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old will sit for the second consecutive contest after exiting Sunday's game as a precautionary measure due to tightness in his right hamstring. Kwan didn't appear off the bench Monday, and it's unclear if he'll be available as a reserve for Tuesday's contest. Ernie Clement will cover left field in his place.
Apr 25, 2022
Not starting Monday
Kwan (hamstring) isn't starting Monday's game against the Angels.
ANALYSIS
Kwan was removed from Sunday's game against the Yankees as a precautionary measure due to right hamstring tightness, and he'll be out of the lineup for at least one matchup. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench, but Richie Palacios will start in left field and bat ninth after he was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.
Apr 24, 2022
Considered day-to-day
Kwan (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after exiting Sunday's game against the Yankees, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan's hamstring cramped up following his second at-bat Sunday, and manager Terry Francona said the outfielder's removal was "preventative." Although the Guardians are optimistic that Kwan isn't dealing with a serious injury, they'll see how he feels after the team travels to Los Angeles. If the 24-year-old misses additional time, Oscar Mercado and Josh Naylor will likely see increased at-bats.
Apr 24, 2022
Tweaks hamstring Sunday
The Guardians announced that Kwan was removed in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Yankees due to right hamstring tightness, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. Kwan went 0-for-2 before exiting the contest.
ANALYSIS
The extent of Kwan's hamstring injury hasn't been revealed, and the Guardians could send him in for an MRI to confirm whether he's dealing with a strain. Even a Grade 1 strain would likely result in a trip to the injured list for Kwan, who has emerged as one of the early frontrunners for American League Rookie of the Year honors after slashing .341/.456/.500 through his first 55 plate appearances of the season. Ernie Clement came off the bench to replace Kwan in left field Sunday, but Oscar Mercado and Josh Naylor are more likely to be the primary beneficiaries if Kwan's injury forces him to miss time.
Apr 24, 2022
Exits early Sunday
Kwan was removed from Sunday's game against the Yankees in the bottom of the third inning due to an apparent injury, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-2 before he was replaced by Ernie Clement.
ANALYSIS
After crashing into the left-field wall late in Saturday's 5-4 loss, Kwan stayed in the game and cleared subsequent evaluations for a concussion after the contest. It's not clear if his early exit Sunday was a result of some late-arriving concussion symptoms, or if he was dealing with an unrelated illness or injury. Expect the Guardians to provide an update on the star rookie's condition after the game.
Apr 24, 2022
Clears concussion protocol
Kwan passed all concussion testing and will start in left field and bat second in Sunday's game against the Yankees, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan is still a bit banged up in the aftermath of Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Yankees after he ran hard into the outfield wall in the ninth inning while chasing down Isiah Kiner-Falefa's tie-breaking double. The rookie wasn't forced to exit the contest upon being evaluated by a trainer, however, and he looks as though he's still feeling well enough to play less than 24 hours later. Before hurting himself in the outfield, Kwan went 0-for-4 at the dish to snap a four-game hitting streak.
Apr 22, 2022
Doubles in loss
Kwan went 2-for-4 with a double in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Yankees.
ANALYSIS
Kwan doubled in the first inning and reached third base but wasn't able to put Cleveland on the board. He later added a single in the fifth. The rookie outfielder was stuck in a 3-for-19 drought over his previous six games. He's now slashing .395/.510/.579 with six extra-base hits through his first 12 career MLB appearances.
Apr 20, 2022
Not in lineup for Game 1
Kwan isn't starting in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Kwan has cooled off recently, going 0-for-11 with an RBI, a walk and two strikeouts in his last three appearances. Ernie Clement will start in left field and bat second in Wednesday's matinee.
Apr 17, 2022
Takes seat Sunday
Kwan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Kwan had an incredible start to the season and was in the lineup for the first eight games, though he's 0-for-11 over the past three contests and will head to the bench Sunday. Oscar Mercado and Franmil Reyes will start in the corner outfield spots for Cleveland in the series finale.
Apr 11, 2022
Hot streak continues
Kwan went 1-for-3 with a three-run triple, two walks and two runs scored in Monday's 10-7 victory over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Kwan came around to score in the first and seventh innings before lacing a three-run triple in the eighth. The rookie outfielder has reached base 15 times in his first four career MLB games and is currently sporting an outrageous .789 OBP through 19 plate appearances. He obviously can't maintain this level of production, but Kwan is proving that his impressive 2021 minor-league campaign (.934 OPS in 341 plate appearances) and strong 2022 spring performance (.469 average in 32 at-bats) weren't flukes.
Apr 11, 2022
Reaches base six times in win
Kwan went 5-for-5 with a double and four runs Sunday in the Guardians' 17-3 win over the Royals.
ANALYSIS
After hitting .469 in Cactus League play to earn a spot on the Guardians' Opening Day roster, Kwan has continued to keep raking in his first three big-league games. He was also hit by a pitch in Sunday's game, allowing him to reach base an incredible 12 times in his first 14 plate appearances. Kwan's on-base and contact-hitting skills are legitimate -- he posted strikeout rates below 11 percent at all three of his full-season stops in the minors -- but a lack of power and speed will cap his overall fantasy ceiling. That said, Kwan projects as an excellent source of batting average and runs, making him an ideal pickup in leagues where he's available for fantasy managers in need of help in those categories.
Apr 10, 2022
On base three times Saturday
Kwan went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double in Saturday's 1-0 extra-inning loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Guardians batters only reached base seven times in the entire game -- five hits, a walk, and a HBP -- and Kwan accounted for nearly half of those trips. Not bad for a kid in his second career MLB game. The sample is a tiny one, but so far the 24-year-old has shown that his elite hit tool and sharp eye at the plate will play in the majors, as he's gone 3-for-5 with a 3:0 BB:K in those two games. Kwan could become a fixture near the top of the Cleveland order if he keeps this up.
Apr 9, 2022
Hitting second Saturday
Kwan is hitting second and starting in left field Saturday against the Royals, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He went 1-for-2 with two walks out of the seven hole on Opening Day and he's already moved up to the two hole against righty Brad Keller. Kwan's hit tool is pretty elite relative to most prospects, and given the Guardians' lack of strong AVG/OBP options, he could retain a favorable spot in the order all season.
Apr 7, 2022
Draws two walks in MLB debut
Kwan went 1-for-2 with two walks in Thursday's loss to the Royals.
ANALYSIS
Kwan, who batted seventh, got on base three times during his MLB debut. The 24-year-old outfielder figures to continue drawing starts in right field with Josh Naylor (lower leg) sidelined, especially if his elite-contact skills continue to translate to the big league level.
Apr 6, 2022
Will start Opening Day
Kwan will start in right field in Thursday's season opener against the Royals, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kwan earned a spot on Cleveland's Opening Day roster and will receive the start in his major-league debut. Josh Naylor (lower leg) is on the injured list to begin the season, but may not be out long, leaving the rookie to start in right for the Guardians. A hot start to the season could help Kwan stick around even once the outfield group is back to full strength.
Apr 2, 2022
Breaking camp in big leagues
Kwan has made the Guardians' Opening Day roster, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Guardians have a well-earned reputation for prioritizing money over wins, but they'll buck that trend here by starting the service-time clock of one of the game's more interesting prospects. Kwan is a strong defender and an elite contact hitter, striking out 9.2 percent of the time in 217 major-league games while slashing .301/.380/.438. He doesn't have much power, as he's only hit 15 homers as a professional, but he should be able to hit for a solid batting average right away and could score a fair amount of runs if his strong on-base skills eventually earn him a spot at or near the top of the lineup. Such a role may not come early in the season, however, as it's not even guaranteed that he'll start on a regular basis.
Mar 30, 2022
Strong hitting in spring
Kwan went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Brewers.
ANALYSIS
Kwan isn't expected to break camp with the Guardians, but he's making that a tougher decision for manager Terry Francona. Through nine games, Kwan is 9-for-18 with a double, three RBI and six runs scored. The fifth-round pick from 2018 showed a little more power in 2021, posting 12 home runs and 15 doubles in 77 games between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. It's his contact skills that will get him to the majors -- he's never hit under .280 in the minors. Myles Straw is likely to patrol center field, which is Kwan's natural position, but the 24-year-old could get a promotion if Josh Naylor, Bradley Zimmer or Oscar Mercado struggle with the bat while covering the corner outfield spots.
