Out for rest of season
The Angels placed Anderson on the 15-day injured list Saturday with knee soreness, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson already had a start postponed due to his sore knee, and now he will simply be shut down for the rest of the season as he continues to recover. No replacement starter has been named yet for Sunday's game against Minnesota. Anderson will finish the season with a 5.43 ERA and 1.49 WHIP through 141 innings.

Pushed back due to sore knee
Anderson's next scheduled start has been pushed back from Saturday to Sunday in Minnesota due to knee soreness, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear when Anderson's knee began bothering him, but he'll receive some extra rest in hopes that he can put it behind him. Davis Daniel will be recalled to take the ball Friday. Anderson has been a major disappointment in his first year with the Angels, posting a 5.43 ERA over 27 appearances (25 starts).
Sep 17, 2023
Yields four runs Saturday
Anderson allowed four runs on four hits and five walks while striking out seven over five innings in a no-decision versus the Tigers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson matched his season high with the five walks. He gave up a three-run home run to Zack Short in the second inning and an RBI single to Miguel Cabrera in the fifth, though Anderson was spared the loss when the Angels rallied to tie the game in the ninth. The southpaw is now at a 5.43 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 119:64 K:BB through 141 innings over 27 appearances (25 starts) this season. He's lined up for a road outing in Minnesota next weekend.
Sep 10, 2023
Goes eight innings in win
Anderson (6-6) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four over eight innings to earn the win over the Guardians on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
While Anderson gave up multiple homers for just the fourth time this year, this was one of his better starts of the year. Both long balls were solo shots, and the Angels answered with four homers of their own to support him. Anderson's win was his first since July 23. The southpaw is now at a 5.36 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 112:59 K:BB through 136 innings over 26 outings (24 starts) this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers.
Sep 3, 2023
Yields three runs in no-decision
Anderson allowed three runs on three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in Sunday's loss to Oakland. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson worked through five scoreless frames before the Athletics broke things open with a four-run sixth inning. He's given up at least three earned runs in four of his last five outings, posting an 8.37 ERA during that span. His season ERA now sits at 5.55 with a 108:58 K:BB across 128 innings. Anderson's next outing is projected to be at home against the Guardians.
Aug 30, 2023
Tagged for six earned runs
Anderson (5-6) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings against Philadelphia. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
The veteran lefty fell victim to the long ball Tuesday, surrendering home runs to Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm before exiting with nobody out in the sixth. Anderson lost all four of his decisions in August, posting an unsightly 8.10 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 23:14 K:BB across 23.1 innings. He is currently slated to face the first-place Orioles early next week.
Aug 25, 2023
Pitches in relief after Ohtani exit
Anderson dropped to 5-5 on the season after giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out five in relief of Shohei Ohtani (elbow) in the Angels' 9-4 loss to the Reds in Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Because Ohtani exited midway through the second inning with a UCL tear, Anderson was needed in long relief and ended up getting what amount to a de fact on normal rest. He was ultimately saddled with the loss but should have some longer-term security in the Anaheim rotation with the Angels having already announced that Ohtani won't pitch again this season and will be limited strictly to serving as a designated hitter. Anderson will end up missing out on a start during this weekend's series against the Mets, however. He'll likely make his next start during the Angels' series in Philadelphia to begin the upcoming week.
Aug 19, 2023
Yields five runs
Anderson allowed five runs on six hits and two walks over four-plus innings in Friday's loss to the Rays. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson gave up one run through three innings before the Rays broke through with a three-run fourth. He's been charged with 12 runs over his last 8.2 innings, raising his season ERA from 4.92 to 5.50 in the process. His record still sits at 5-4 next to a lackluster 95:49 K:BB through 113 frames. Anderson's next outing is projected to be on the road against the Mets next week.
Aug 13, 2023
Shelled for seven runs Saturday
Anderson (5-4) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six batters over 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson got through three scoreless frames before the Astros struck for four runs in the fourth, with three coming on a Kyle Tucker homer. The left-hander then allowed four straight hitters to reach base with two outs in the fifth, three of whom came around to score. Anderson looked like he might be turning things around in his past two starts coming into Saturday, as he had allowed just three runs over 11.1 frames. However, he's been disappointing as a whole after signing with the Angels in the offseason, posting a 5.28 ERA and and 1.52 WHIP across 109 innings.
Aug 6, 2023
Strikes out six in loss
Anderson (5-3) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Mariners.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had gone two starts without walking multiple batters before regressing Saturday. He particularly struggled in the third inning, which saw him give up three of the five baserunners and both runs on a Julio Rodriguez double. Anderson continues to return mixed results with a 4.92 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 86:44 K:BB through 104.1 innings over 20 outings (19 starts) this season. He is tentatively lined up for a challenging road start in Houston next weekend.
Jul 30, 2023
Sharp in no-decision
Anderson did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing a run on seven hits and a walk over 6.1 innings in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Anderson has looked better recently, working to a 3.53 ERA over his last seven outings. He's now allowed one run or fewer in three of his previous five starts. Overall, the 33-year-old southpaw is 5-2 with a 4.98 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 80:31 K:BB across 18 starts (99.1 innings) this season. Anderson's next start is currently lined up for next week at home against the Mariners.
Jul 23, 2023
Yields four runs in win
Anderson (5-2) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk over six-plus innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Pirates.
ANALYSIS
Anderson gave up just one run through six frames but was charged with three more in the seventh inning after putting three Pirates on base while failing to record an out. It was the first time he completed six innings since June 25 in Colorado. Anderson has recorded a 5.68 ERA over his last nine starts, bumping his season number to 5.23 across 93 innings. His next start is projected to be in Toronto.
Jul 17, 2023
Fans five in short outing
Anderson did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over three innings against Houston. He struck out five.
ANALYSIS
Anderson needed 85 pitches to get through just three frames in the inefficient outing. On the bright side, he forced 15 whiffs and he's hit that mark in four of his last six outings. The 33-year-old still owns a disappointing 5.17 ERA with a 73:39 K:BB through 87 innings. Anderson's next outing is projected to be at home against the Pirates.
Jul 8, 2023
Works in long relief
Anderson tossed 4.1 innings out of the bullpen Friday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
ANALYSIS
Manager Phil Nevin announced earlier in the week that Anderson would be available out of the bullpen until the All-Star break with the team not needing his services as a starter. The southpaw threw more pitches (71) on Friday than starter Griffin Canning (56), and neither hurler was able to contain the Dodgers' offense. Given his workload in the contest, Anderson is unlikely to pitch again until after the Midsummer Classic.
Jul 5, 2023
Available in relief
Anderson will be available in relief for the Angels until the All-Star break, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The Angels need just two starters before the break and they believe Anderson is better suited for relief, if needed, than Griffin Canning or Reid Detmers. It's been a disappointing start to Anderson's tenure in Anaheim, with the lefty posting a 5.20 ERA in 15 starts.
Jul 2, 2023
Takes no-decision Saturday
Anderson allowed five hits and two walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings, taking a no-decision in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Anderson did his part, but Sam Bachman and Chris Devenski let the game slip away from the Angels. Anderson hadn't pitched a scoreless outing since his first start of the year April 2 versus the Athletics, and he gave up 14 runs over 22 innings across four starts in June. The veteran southpaw is at a 5.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 63:35 K:BB across 79.2 innings through 15 starts overall. His last start of the first half is projected to be on the road against the Dodgers.
Jun 25, 2023
Earns quality start in loss
Anderson (4-2) took the loss Sunday versus the Rockies. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine over six innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson picked up his fifth quality start of the year, but didn't get enough run support to avoid the loss. While he struck out a season-high nine, a home run and a pair of sacrifice flies accounted for the runs on his line. Anderson has had mixed results for much of the year with a 5.54 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 60:33 K:BB over 74.2 innings through 14 starts. He's projected to make his next start at home in a challenging matchup versus the Diamondbacks.
Jun 18, 2023
Picks up fourth win
Anderson (4-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over five innings against the Royals. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
Anderson bounced back from a poor stretch of starts, giving up just two runs over five innings of work after allowing four or more runs in each of his last three starts. Through 13 appearances (68.2 innings), Anderson sports a 5.64 ERA and a 4.06 BB/9 but has given up just three home runs over his last 10 starts. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start against the Rockies at Coors Field.
Jun 13, 2023
Strikes out seven in no-decision
Anderson did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over six innings against the Rangers. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed five or more runs for the fifth time this year but tied his season high with seven strikeouts. The left-hander's ERA has ballooned to 5.80 after giving up 15 runs over his past three starts (15 innings), and his first season with the Angels continues to be a disappointment. Anderson signed a three-year, $40 million deal with the Halos this offseason after posting a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with the Dodgers in 2022, both career highs. Despite his struggles, Anderson remains a key piece of the Angels' rotation and is slated to pitch again during the finale of a three-game set in Kansas City.
Jun 7, 2023
Picks up third win
Anderson (3-1) allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings, picking up the win Tuesday over the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had a sloppy second inning, but the Angels' offense gave him some support. He's now allowed 10 runs over his last nine innings, a noticeable downturn after posting a 3.14 ERA over 28.2 innings between April 28 and May 24. The southpaw is at a 5.62 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 38:28 K:BB over 57.2 innings through 11 starts on the season. He's projected for a brutal road matchup with the Rangers next week.
May 31, 2023
Roughed up by White Sox
Anderson (2-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on six hits and two walks over 4 innings in a 7-3 loss against the White Sox. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Anderson tied his season-high in earned runs Tuesday, marking the first time since April 22 he allowed more than three runs. Most of the damage came in the fourth inning, where Anderson gave up three doubles, a single and a walk as the Sox put up five runs. Prior to Tuesday's start, Anderson had strung together a handful of strong outings, recording a 3.14 ERA and 19 strikeouts over five appearances (28.2 innings).
May 25, 2023
Picks up second win
Anderson (2-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over six innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was touched up by two doubles in the fourth inning. Otherwise he rolled through the Red Sox. Anderson posted six shutout innings in his first start of the season, but struggled from there. His ERA after four starts in April was 5.74, but in May, his ERA is 3.68. His WHIP is still 1.55 in May, so his rebound could be short lived. He has 30 strikeouts in 48.2 innings this season, meaning his ERA and WHIP need to improve to provide fantasy value.
May 19, 2023
Unravels in fifth inning
Anderson allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two batters over five innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson got through four frames without allowing a run, but he was touched up for three hits and three runs in the the fifth. The left-hander walked multiple batters for the seventh time through eight starts and extended his streak of no-decisions to seven. Anderson has nearly as many walks (21) as strikeouts (27) this season, and his 5.27 ERA is more than double the career-best 2.57 mark he posted with the Dodgers last year.
May 12, 2023
Yields three runs
Anderson allowed three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings during Friday's win over Cleveland. He struck out one and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson got off to a rough start, coughing up a run in each of the first two innings. He settled in and kept the Guardians off the board for a few innings before allowing one more run in the fifth. Anderson's command has been pretty inconsistent this season; after posting a 1.7 BB/9 with the Dodgers last season, he's walked 19 batters through 37.2 frames (4.5 BB/9) in 2023. Anderson's one strikeout tied a season low and he's struck out four or fewer in five starts. He's currently projected to start in Baltimore next week.
May 6, 2023
Issues five walks in no-decision
Anderson allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and five walks while striking out six in five innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson's five walks were a season high, though he didn't end up having to pay for it. The Angels were able to get the win in 10 innings after the lefty's effectively wild outing, which saw him throw 63 of 103 pitches for strikes. Anderson has a 5.40 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 24:16 K:BB through 31.2 innings over six starts this season. He's tentatively scheduled for a road start in Cleveland next week.
Apr 28, 2023
Bounces back with quality start
Anderson did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against Milwaukee. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
Entering Friday Anderson had allowed five or more earned runs in three consecutive starts. He rebounded nicely against Milwaukee with his longest outing and most strikeouts of the season. The lefty lowered his ERA to 5.74, as he tries to match his career-best 2.57 ERA from last season.
Apr 23, 2023
Struggles again Saturday
Anderson did not factor in the decision against Kansas City on Saturday, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and no walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out one batter.
ANALYSIS
Anderson began his outing with two scoreless frames, but he couldn't keep the positives going from there. The southpaw gave up a run in the third and two in the fourth before departing with one out in the sixth after loading the bases. Two of those runners came around to score to round out Anderson's poor stat line. The veteran hurler began the campaign with six scoreless innings against Oakland, but he's since given up 16 earned runs over his subsequent 14 frames. His ERA now sits at an unsightly 7.20, and his 11:8 K:BB is far from promising.
Apr 15, 2023
Struggles Saturday
Anderson did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing six runs on eight hits and four walks over four innings during a 9-7 loss to the Red Sox. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was spotted a four-run lead thanks to a grand slam from Gio Urshela in the first, but the left-hander couldn't take advantage. He served up a two-run home run to Rafael Devers in the first and another two-run shot by Yu Chang in the fourth, which gave Boston a 5-4 lead. After tossing six scoreless in his first start with the Angels, Anderson has given up 11 runs, including five homers, over his past two starts. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for L.A.'s upcoming three-game set against Kansas City.
Apr 9, 2023
Struggles in second start
Anderson pitched 4.2 innings against Toronto on Saturday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson made it through two scoreless innings Saturday before Toronto tagged him for a pair of two-run homers in the third. George Springer later hit a solo shot off the left-hander in the fifth inning, as all five runs against him came via the long ball. This was a disappointing outing for Anderson after he tossed six scoreless frames against Oakland in his season debut. He had a career-best campaign with the Dodgers last season, but his pitch-to-soft-contact approach yields minimal strikeouts to strongly lessen his fantasy value.
Apr 2, 2023
Tosses six scoreless frames
Anderson (1-0) earned the win Sunday, allowing zero runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Athletics. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Anderson is coming off a season-best campaign in which he posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with a 15-5 record over 30 appearances (28 starts) with the Dodgers. He logged a 1.35 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 13.1 innings over three spring outings, and his regular season got off to a solid start during Sunday's team debut in a favorable matchup. He tentatively lines up to make his next start at home against the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Mar 21, 2023
Six scoreless against D-Backs
Andrew hurled six scoreless innings during Tuesday's Cactus League game against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed just three hits, and he walked two with four strikeouts. The left-hander has made just two spring appearances in 2023, but he has yet to allow a run while giving up just those three hits in eight innings of work. Anderson had a breakout season in 2023, and while those results aren't likely repeatable he does have a chance to provide fantasy relevancy this summer if he's a semblance of a pitcher he was with the Dodgers in 2022.
Nov 15, 2022
Signs with Angels
Anderson signed a three-year, $40 million deal with the Angels on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers offered Anderson the $19.65 million qualifying offer for 2023, but Anderson will instead move across town and join the Angels' rotation. The 32-year-old lefty is coming off a career year with the Dodgers, recording a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over 178.2 innings.
Oct 2, 2022
Strikes out 10 in loss
Anderson (15-5) took the loss during Sunday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Rockies, allowing two runs on six hits with 10 strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson limited the damage to one run in each of the first and third innings despite putting at least one runner on in each of his five frames. The 32-year-old peppered the strike zone with 63 of 86 pitches going for strikes with an impressive 21 of the swinging variety en route to tying his career-high with 10 strikeouts. Anderson concludes a statement 2022 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP-- ranking 11th and 12th in MLB respectively -- with 138 strikeouts across 178.2 innings in 28 starts and 30 games.
Sep 28, 2022
Throws quality start in no-decision
Anderson registered a no-decision during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to San Diego, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson permitted all the damage in the first inning, allowing both runs on a two-out Wil Myers single before retiring the next 16 Padres. The 32-year-old tossed an efficient 52 of 71 pitches for strikes with five of the swinging variety in extending his streak of surrendering three runs or fewer to nine starts. Across those nine turns, Anderson has pitched to a 1.85 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 58.1 innings. His 2.54 ERA and 1.00 WHIP both rank ninth in MLB and he'll look to wrap up a breakout campaign with one last start, currently set to come Sunday against the Rockies.
Sep 21, 2022
Stuck with loss in quality start
Anderson (15-4) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, giving up three unearned runs on two hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.
ANALYSIS
The veteran lefty was victimized by some bad defense in his return from the paternity list, as a Trea Turner throwing error in the second inning led to Arizona's first run, while three more Los Angeles miscues in the sixth -- including two by Anderson himself -- tacked two more runs on the board. He was still able to extend his quality start streak to four, however, and he has nine in 11 outings since the All-Star break -- a stretch during which Anderson boasts a stellar 1.92 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with a 44:17 K:BB through 70.1 innings.
Sep 20, 2022
Activated ahead of Tuesday's start
Anderson (paternity) was activated ahead of his scheduled start in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.
ANALYSIS
Anderson, who tentatively lines up for a two-start week, will end up getting exactly a week off in between starts. He has a 1.89 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 18 strikeouts and two wins in 33.1 innings over his last five starts.
Sep 19, 2022
Tuesday start confirmed
Anderson (personal) will be reinstated from the paternity list to start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against Arizona, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson has been away from the team since Saturday while on the paternity list, but the team confirmed Monday evening that he'll be back on the bump Tuesday for the nightcap. The southpaw has been sharp of late, posting a 1.89 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with an 18:7 K:BB over his last five outings (33.1 innings).
Sep 18, 2022
Slated to return Tuesday
Anderson will return from the paternity list to start one of the two games in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson landed on the paternity list Saturday and will rejoin the Dodgers on Monday once the team returns to Los Angeles. The Dodgers haven't yet announced which game Anderson will start during the doubleheader, but Michael Grove will pitch during the other game. Over his last seven starts, Anderson has posted a 1.94 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 46.1 innings.
Sep 17, 2022
Placed on paternity list
Anderson was placed on the paternity list Saturday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson has been productive recently, posting a 1.94 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 46.1 innings over his last seven starts. He'll be away from the team for 1-3 days following the birth of his child, but he'll likely be able to return to the mound early next week. Andre Jackson was called up to take Anderson's spot on the active roster.
Sep 13, 2022
Tosses seven shutout frames
Anderson (15-3) earned the win over Arizona on Monday, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over seven scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed only one extra-base hit in the contest and benefitted from three double plays turned behind him. The southpaw continues to get by without overpowering hitters, as he induced only four swinging strikes and punched out just two batters in the win. Anderson has registered three consecutive quality starts, pitching exactly seven innings in each of the three outings and allowing a combined five runs. He's been a remarkably steady presence for a Dodgers pitching staff that has been hit by injuries throughout the season, going at least six innings in 18 of 22 appearances since May 12. Anderson ranks 11th in MLB with a 2.62 ERA and is tied for fifth with 15 victories.
Sep 7, 2022
Decent in win
Anderson (14-3) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
A solo home run by Lewis Brinson and a two-run blast from Brandon Crawford accounted for the damage on Anderson's line. Aside from those missteps, he was efficient, throwing 70 of 87 pitches for strikes, though he registered only 11 whiffs. Anderson has logged quality starts in five of his last six outings, posting a 2.29 ERA over that span. He owns a 2.73 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 117:30 K:BB through 154.2 innings this year, and he's projected for a road start in Arizona next week.
Sep 1, 2022
Takes tough-luck loss Wednesday
Anderson (13-3) was tagged with the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters over seven innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson pitched very well in the contest, yielding only a pair of runs on a two-run homer by Starling Marte in the third inning. That proved to be the difference in the game, as Los Angeles managed only one run against Jacob deGrom and a pair of relievers. Anderson nonetheless notched his ninth quality start in 11 contests since the start of July. He's been a vital addition to the Dodgers' staff this season, leading the team with 147.2 innings pitched while registering a 2.68 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, each of which projects to be a career-best mark by a wide margin.
Aug 27, 2022
No-decision against Miami
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Friday's extra-inning win over the Marlins, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers committed three errors on the night, one of which contributed to a two-run six inning by Miami that chased Anderson from the game. The veteran southpaw has been sharp since the All-Star break, posting a 2.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB through 43.1 innings over seven outings with five quality starts.
Aug 20, 2022
Takes no-decision
Anderson allowed a run on five hits and three walks while striking out six over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Marlins on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson got through six innings without much trouble but lacked run support. He allowed one run in the seventh and left with the game tied, making this just the second time all year he's gone two consecutive starts without a win. The southpaw has yielded 10 runs (eight earned) through 38 innings across his last six starts. For the season, he owns a 2.73 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 107:28 K:BB through 135.1 innings across 23 starts. He remains at 13-2 heading into his next start.
Aug 14, 2022
Quality start in loss
Anderson (13-2) took the defeat Sunday in Kansas City, allowing three runs on seven hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out four in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed a run to score in the first, third and sixth innings. He managed to navigate other trouble as he left a runner in scoring position in four of his six frames. It was just the second loss of the season for the lefty. He has seven quality starts in his last eight outings and has compiled a 2.15 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB with two homers allowed in 50.1 innings in that span. His next start will likely be at the end of the week against Miami.
Aug 7, 2022
Impressive in 13th win
Anderson (13-1) allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out three over seven shutout innings to earn the win Sunday over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Anderson has allowed multiple runs only once in his last five starts, and he's shut out opponents in three of those outings. The southpaw was efficient Sunday, requiring just 84 pitches (59 strikes) to get through seven frames. His last start Tuesday in San Francisco was shaky, but it doesn't look like it'll lead to a slump. Anderson has a 2.72 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 97:24 K:BB through 122.1 innings across 21 appearances (19 starts) this year. He's projected for a favorable road start in Kansas City next weekend.
Aug 3, 2022
Narrowly escapes with win
Anderson (12-1) earned the win during Tuesday's 9-5 victory over San Francisco, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks with three strikeouts in five-plus innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson cruised through three frames and was staked to a 6-0 lead but nearly gave it all back in the bottom of the fourth, surrendering five runs on five hits capped by a Joey Bart home run. After a 1-2-3 fifth the 32-year-old walked the first two batters of the sixth and was promptly removed, with the bullpen escaping a bases-loaded no-out jam to keep him in line for the win. The five runs allowed represent Anderson's second-highest mark of the campaign and eclipse his total from his last five starts combined. He carries a 2.89 ERA and 1.03 WHIP into his next start, tentatively slated for Sunday Night Baseball at home against the rival Padres.

Cruises to win in Colorado
Anderson (11-1) allowed four hits and hit a batter while striking out four over seven shutout innings to earn the win Thursday over the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had a 2-0 lead before he even stepped on the mound, and the Dodgers' offense continued to pile on while he kept the Rockies' bats quiet. This was Anderson's fifth straight quality start -- in that span, he's allowed five runs (four earned) in 32.1 innings. His impressive pitching in July has lowered his ERA to 2.61 with a 0.99 WHIP and 91:19 K:BB through 110.1 innings in 19 appearances (17 starts). The southpaw is projected for a road start in San Francisco next week.

No-decision versus Giants
Anderson allowed an unearned run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was steady Friday, allowing the only run to score in the fourth inning. He's limited opponents to one run or less in three of his last four starts, though he's only gone 2-0 in that strong span. The southpaw continues to enjoy a stellar season with a 2.79 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 87:19 K:BB across 103.1 innings in 18 outings (16 starts). He's still carrying a 10-1 record into his next start, tentatively set to be a favorable home matchup versus the Nationals next week.

Earns win No. 10
Anderson (10-1) picked up the win over St. Louis on Thursday, completing six scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Anderson didn't face much stress in the contest -- he surrendered only one extra-base hit, and no Cardinal made it to third base against him. The southpaw finished with his third straight quality start and eighth overall this season. Anderson isn't racking up huge strikeout numbers, but he's thriving thanks in part to a a career-best 1.6 BB/9. He's been a huge addition to a Dodgers staff that has been hit with multiple injuries this season, posting a 2.96 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 97.1 innings while becoming the seventh major-league pitcher to reach 10 victories.
Jul 9, 2022
Submits quality start
Anderson allowed three runs on five hits and struck out four over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Friday. He did not walk a batter.
ANALYSIS
Anderson gave up a solo shot to Nico Hoerner in the fifth inning and a two-run double to Ian Happ in the sixth. It was another positive outing for Anderson, but the Dodgers didn't pull even until the ninth. He's logged a 3.15 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 77:15 K:BB in 91.1 innings across 16 appearances (14 starts) this year. The southpaw has logged quality starts in six of his last nine outings, and he'll look to stay sharp next week in St. Louis.
Jul 3, 2022
Strong in ninth win
Anderson (9-1) allowed a run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 6.1 innings, earning the win Saturday over the Padres.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had a rough go against the Rockies in his last start, and he'd allowed four runs in three of his previous four outings before righting the ship Saturday. The damage on his line came from a Trent Grisham sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. The 32-year-old southpaw has been good in 2022 overall with a 3.09 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 73:15 K:BB across 84.1 innings, though the recent results have been somewhat mixed. He'll look to build off this successful start when he makes his next projected start versus the Cubs next week.

Surrenders four runs in loss
Anderson (8-1) took the loss against Colorado on Monday, allowing four runs on 10 hits and one walk while striking out two.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed a single run in each of the first and second innings before serving up a two-run homer to Jose Iglesias in the sixth. That was more than enough for Colorado to hand him his first loss of the campaign, as opposing pitcher Chad Kuhl pitched the first individual complete-game shutout against Los Angeles in six years. Despite the loss, Anderson helped his team by completing six innings, thus taking the load off a recently taxed bullpen. The left-hander has fallen back a bit of late, but he still has good numbers on the season, including a 3.23 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 1.5 BB/9 over 78 innings.
Jun 23, 2022
Escapes with no-decision Wednesday
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Reds, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out two.
ANALYSIS
The veteran lefty got tagged for three runs in the second inning to put the Dodgers in an early hole, but the game was tied by the time Anderson exited and Los Angeles pulled away late. He tossed 58 of 81 pitches for strikes, but he got hit hard as four of the five hits off Anderson went for extra bases, including an Albert Almora solo shot in the fifth. Anderson still carries an unblemished 8-0 record on the seasonwith a dazzling 3.00 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, but he's showing signs of slowing down, posting a 4.41 ERA over his last three outings that nearly matches his 4.45 career mark.
Jun 16, 2022
Flirts with no-hitter
Anderson (8-0) earned the win during Wednesday's 4-1 victory against the Angels, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Following a poor outing against the White Sox in his last start, Anderson surrendered a one-out Shohei Ohtani triple to lose a no-hitter and was subsequently pulled at 123 pitches. In total, the 32-year-old permitted six baserunners and was able to stay course with the help of 17 straight outs during the middle innings. Additionally, the eight strikeouts match the southpaw's season best while the 83 game score eclipses that of eight shutout innings he posted against Washington on May 23. Anderson's eight wins tie him with three others for the MLB lead and he'll look to keep pace as he's expected to take the mound again next week against Cincinnati.
Jun 9, 2022
Only lasts three innings
Anderson allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two across three innings Thursday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson surrendered one earned run through three innings, but he allowed the first four batters he faced in the fourth frame to reach base to sour his outing. He didn't allow a home run, though he was uncharacteristically wild as he had allowed only six walks across 55.2 innings on the season entering Thursday's start. The outing also snapped a 20-frame scoreless stretch for Anderson, so he still owns a strong 3.07 ERA on the campaign.
Jun 4, 2022
Earns MLB-leading seventh win
Anderson (7-0) earned the win during Friday's 6-1 victory over the Mets, allowing three hits with five strikeouts in six scoreless innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was hot out of the gate, retiring 12 of the first 13 Mets he faced, and didn't let any of the four runners he put on base past second. The 32-year-old was able to induce an impressive 14 swinging strikes on 81 pitches in earning his seventh win to break a tie with 12 other pitches for the outright lead. Anderson has now gone 26 innings without allowing a run while striking out 25 and walking one in the stretch, with his 8.83 K/BB on the season ranking second in the league. He's slated for a mid-week start though Los Angeles' rotation could get shuffled soon with Clayton Kershaw slated to return next weekend.
May 29, 2022
Posts six scoreless frames
Anderson (6-0) earned the win during Sunday's 3-1 victory over Arizona, allowing five hits and one walk with six strikeouts in six innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson required just 79 pitches to cruise through six easy frames and earn his third straight win to give him a share of the MLB lead with teammate Walker Buehler and Justin Verlander at six. Since joining the rotation April 23, the 32-year-old has surrendered 14 runs in 41.2 innings for a 3.02 ERA though five of the seven starts have come against teams below .500. A 3.65 xFIP indicates Anderson's 2.90 ERA stands to rise some and he'll get a test against the Mets' top three offense next weekend.
May 24, 2022
Dominates Nats for fifth win
Anderson (5-0) picked up the win Monday, allowing five hits over eight scoreless innings in a 10-1 victory over the Nationals. He struck out eight.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw took a perfect game into the sixth inning, retiring the first 16 batters he faced before a one-out double by Cesar Hernandez. Anderson also ended his outing in style, striking out the side in the eighth, and he fired 77 of his 101 pitches for strikes on the night. The 32-year-old hasn't had an ERA below 4.00 since his rookie season with the Rockies in 2016, but he'll carry a 3.30 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and sharp 42:5 K:BB through 43.2 innings into his next start.
May 18, 2022
Efficient in win
Anderson (4-0) earned the victory and allowed two runs on seven hits, striking out seven across seven innings in a 12-3 win Tuesday over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Both runs against Anderson came in the first inning with two outs when Jordan Luplow and Christian Walker hit back-to-back solo shots. In his last six frames, Anderson skated through the Diamondbacks' lineup, scattering four singles and allowing only one baserunner to reach as far as second base. The lefty was efficient, needing only 82 pitches in his best start as a Dodger. While the 32-year-old has an excellent 34:5 K:BB, his six home runs allowed in 35.2 innings are a good part of the reason his ERA sits at 4.04.
May 13, 2022
Allows seven runs in no-decision
Anderson pitched six innings against Philadelphia on Thursday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander came into Thursday having allowed two or fewer runs in each of his first five appearances this season, but he allowed four runs through the first two frames against Philadelphia. Single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth added to an ugly final line for Anderson, though a late-game comeback by the Dodgers took him off the hook for a loss. Anderson has been filling the rotation spot left by Andrew Heaney (shoulder), and though the latter recently resume throwing, Anderson is likely to get at least one more turn in the rotation. That is lined up to come at home against Arizona early next week.
May 8, 2022
Fans seven in win over Cubs
Anderson (3-0) picked up the win in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cubs, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The veteran southpaw helped the Dodgers complete a sweep of the twin bill with arguably his best performance of the season so far, as Anderson tossed 56 of 80 pitches for strikes and struck out more than four batters for the first time in 2022. He'll take a 2.78 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB through 22.2 innings into his next start.
May 6, 2022
Friday's matchup called off
Anderson and the Dodgers won't play Friday against the Cubs due to inclement weather, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was named the starting pitcher for Friday's matchup, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him start in one of the two games during Saturday's doubleheader. He's posted a 2.55 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 17.2 innings over four appearances (two starts) this year.
Apr 30, 2022
Surrenders one run in win
Anderson (2-0) picked up the win during Friday's 5-1 victory over Detroit, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings.
ANALYSIS
Making his second start in place of Andrew Heaney (shoulder), Anderson worked quickly through his five innings aside from a mini rally in the third that put one run on the board. This is the 32-year-old's first win as a starter, and he possesses a solid 2.79 ERA across 9.2 innings over the two appearances. Heaney has yet to resume throwing so Anderson appears on track to make at least one more turn through the rotation, likely next weekend against the Cubs.
Apr 24, 2022
Serviceable in first start
Anderson didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Padres, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson took Andrew Heaney's spot in the rotation and did just enough to keep Los Angeles within striking distance. He surrendered one run apiece in the second and third innings and was in line for the loss until Los Angeles rallied with two runs in the eighth to tie the game. The 32-year-old is a viable streamer for his next start, scheduled against the Tigers on Friday, as he'll most likely remain in the rotation as long as Heaney is shelved.
Apr 20, 2022
Joining rotation Saturday
Manager Dave Roberts said Anderson will start Saturday's game against the Padres, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old has worked out of the bullpen in his first two appearances of 2022 but will enter the rotation Saturday in place of Andrew Heaney (shoulder), who was placed on the injured list. Anderson covered four innings and topped 55 pitches in both outings, so he figures to be limited to about 70-80 pitches in San Diego.
Apr 20, 2022
Could replace Heaney in rotation
Anderson threw an extended bullpen session Wednesday and could be preparing to fill in for the injured Andrew Heaney (shoulder) in the rotation Saturday in San Diego, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson completed the session midway through the Dodgers' series finale with Atlanta, but he wasn't considered as an option to replace Tony Gonsolin, who was rolling at the time and ultimately tossed six shutout innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. The Dodgers will likely make Anderson available in relief if needed for Friday's game in San Diego, but assuming he goes unused, the southpaw makes for the most logical choice to take Heaney's turn in the rotation. Anderson had been stretching out for starting duty in spring training, and he's covered four innings in both of his relief appearances since the start of the season. He should be capable of giving the Dodgers five innings in a start if he's able to work efficiently.
Apr 16, 2022
Four innings in relief win
Anderson (1-0) picked up the win during Friday's 3-1 victory over the Reds, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
Making his second appearance of the season, Anderson allowed his lone run and all three baserunners in the sixth inning against the heart of Cincinnati's lineup. The 32-year-old lefty has now followed starter Tony Gonsolin in consecutive appearance and, if the trend sticks, is slated to pitch again on Wednesday against Atlanta.
Mar 27, 2022
In line for piggyback role
Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Anderson will likely begin the season as a piggyback bulk arm when needed, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was in the mix for a starting role during spring training, but it appears as though Tony Gonsolin will win the team's fifth rotation spot while Andrew Heaney serves as a fill-in starter with Trevor Bauer (not injury related) on administrative leave. Anderson served exclusively as a starter with the Pirates and Mariners last year and posted a 4.53 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 167 innings. However, his fantasy value will take a hit if he ultimately serves as a long reliever this year.
Mar 20, 2022
Not guaranteed starting role
Anderson will stretch out as a starter this spring, but he could serve as a bulk reliever early in the regular season, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dodgers signed Anderson on Friday following a 2020 campaign during which he posted a 4.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 134:38 K:BB across 167 innings. The southpaw started in all 31 of his appearances last season, but that doesn't mean he'll be handed a spot in the rotation for Los Angeles. The Dodgers' top three starting spots are set in stone between Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and Julio Urias, leaving the remaining slots to be filled by two of Anderson, Andrew Heaney, Tony Gonsolin, Mitch White and David Price. The team could make a decision on which hurlers start the season in the rotation based on their spring-training performances.
Mar 18, 2022
Signs with Dodgers
Anderson signed with the Dodgers on Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson posted a passable 4.53 ERA in 31 starts for the Pirates and Mariners last season, as his strong 5.4 percent walk rate got cancelled out by a low 19.1 percent strikeout rate and 35.1 percent groundball rate. Unless the Dodgers can unlock something new in his profile, he'll be fighting for a back-end starter spot at best. The team does have two of those spots up for grabs while Trevor Bauer remains on administrative leave, leaving Anderson to compete with Andrew Heaney, Tony Gonsolin, Mitch White and David Price for starts.
Nov 5, 2021
Won't get qualifying offer
Anderson will not be tendered a qualifying offer and will head to free agency, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mariners like Anderson and are expected to try to sign him on the open market, but he's not good enough to require an $18.4 million deal. In 31 starts for Pittsburgh and Seattle, he posted a 4.53 ERA, as his strong 5.4 percent walk rate wasn't enough to make up for a low 19.1 percent strikeout rate and 35.1 percent groundball rate.
Oct 4, 2021
Loses season finale
Anderson (7-11) allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks across 1.2 innings, taking the loss to the Angels on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson surrendered a leadoff home run to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning. A pair of runs scored in each of the first two innings that he appeared in. He was quickly pulled after just 37 pitches, as Seattle was fighting for a WIld Card spot. However, the Angels maintained the lead and Anderson was stuck with the final loss of the season. The 31-year-old finished with a 4.81 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 63.2 innings.
Sep 29, 2021
Four innings in no-decision
Anderson got a no-decision in Tuesday's 4-2 win over Oakland, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts in four innings.
ANALYSIS
Manager Scott Servais opted to go with a shortened rotation during the season's final week which is why Anderson got the nod for Tuesday's contest after starting Saturday's loss to the Angels. The goal was clearly for Anderson to go as deep as possible with a limited pitch count as the lefty tossed 40 of 46 pitches for strikes. The approach was effective too with the lone run coming on a Chad Pinder home run. Following the current trend, it wouldn't be surprising to see Anderson take the hill during the upcoming weekend series against the Angels in a limited capacity.
Sep 28, 2021
Starting on short rest
Anderson is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics in Seattle, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle looks set to shorten its rotation to four men for the final week of the season as it attempts to secure a wild-card berth. The struggling Yusei Kikuchi is expected to move to the bullpen, while Anderson will return to the hill on three days' rest to take the hill Tuesday. In his last start Saturday against the Angels, Anderson was blasted for nine runs over two innings, but because the lefty tossed only 54 pitches in that outing, he may not face significant restrictions with his workload versus Oakland.
Sep 26, 2021
Hit hard by Angels
Anderson (7-10) took the loss in Saturday's 14-1 defeat at the hands of the Angels, allowing nine runs on nine hits and a walk in two innings. He failed to record a strikeout.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was hammered early and often Saturday, permitting two runs in the first inning, one in the second and six in the third before being pulled. The poor start comes on the heels of two straight one-run outings and is Anderson's first start allowing more than four runs in 11 starts since being acquired from Pittsburgh.
Sep 21, 2021
Ties season-high mark in strikeouts
Anderson (7-9) earned the win Monday against the Athletics after tossing seven innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and a walk while fanning seven.
ANALYSIS
Anderson matched his season-best output in strikeouts while also allowing just one run for the second straight start, and he seems to be gearing up for a strong end of the regular season. He has allowed three or fewer runs in eight of his nine appearances since the beginning of August, posting a 3.20 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in that span.
Sep 15, 2021
Decent in short start
Anderson got a no-decision during Tuesday's 8-4 loss at the hands of the Red Sox, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
ANALYSIS
Making his return from the bereavement list, Anderson made quick work of Boston's lineup the first time through the order but had some issues on the second go-around which prompted his early removal. The 31-year-old has now failed to reach five innings in each of his last two starts though he received no-decisions in each outing. Anderson currently lines up to face Oakland early next week.
Sep 12, 2021
Back with team
The Mariners reinstated Anderson from the bereavement list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson returns in time to make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Red Sox. The lefty has a 3.83 ERA and 34:7 K:BB in 44.2 innings since being dealt to Seattle.
Sep 9, 2021
Moves to bereavement list
Anderson was placed on the bereavement list Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson should return to the team in time to make his next scheduled start against Boston on Tuesday, so the transaction isn't expected to have an impact on the Mariners' rotation. Infielder Kevin Padlo will come up from Triple-A Tacoma to take Anderson's roster spot during the weekend series against the Diamondbacks.
Sep 8, 2021
No-decision versus Astros
Anderson allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.2 innings Wednesday versus the Astros. He did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old gave up three runs in the second inning and a solo home run to Jose Altuve in the fifth prior to his exit. Anderson escaped additional damage after Casey Sadler was able to finish the fifth without yielding runs in a bases-loaded situation. Wednesday marked Anderson's shortest outing with Seattle. He's made some improvements since he was traded from Pittsburgh, logging a 3.83 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 34:7 K:BB in 44.2 innings across eight starts as a Mariner. He lines up for a home start versus Boston next week.
Sep 4, 2021
Posts quality start
Anderson allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out five across six innings in the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed just one run through six innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh. He gave up back-to-back doubles to lead off the inning before being pulled. However, he did continue his streak of allowing three or less runs over his last 12 starts. The 31-year-old has a 3.38 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with 30 strikeouts in 40 innings since joining Seattle. His next start is scheduled for Wednesday in Houston.
Aug 28, 2021
Takes loss despite quality start
Anderson (6-9) was tagged with the loss Saturday despite allowing three runs on eight hits across seven innings, fanning six.
ANALYSIS
Anderson might have been tagged with the loss in this one, but he extended his streak of strong appearances. He has given up three or fewer runs in each of his last 11 outings and has posted five quality starts during that span. The southpaw owns a 4.06 ERA on the season, but that figure reduces to 3.38 following the All-Star break.
Aug 22, 2021
Yields two runs in no-decision
Anderson allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in Sunday's win over Houston. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
Both runs against Anderson came in the second inning, including a solo blast by Yordan Alvarez. The 6-foot-2 southpaw has performed well since Seattle acquired him in July, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 19:3 K:BB over five starts. For the year, he owns a 4.07 ERA through 130.1 frames. Anderson is lined up to face the Royals at home next weekend.
Aug 18, 2021
Fires six-inning win
Anderson (6-8) allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out four across six innings, earning the win over the Rangers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed a solo home run to lead off the third inning to Andy Ibanez. However, that was the only extra-base hit by the Rangers and Anderson made easy work of them through six innings. This was his first win since joining the Mariners. Since July 4, the 31-year-old has a 2.72 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with three wins in seven starts. On the season, he has a 4.10 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 101 strikeouts in 125 innings.
Aug 12, 2021
Keeps Rangers quiet in no-decision
Anderson worked 5.1 innings Wednesday against the Rangers, giving up one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four. He didn't factor into the decision in the Mariners' 2-1 win.
ANALYSIS
Despite posting a serviceable 3.45 ERA through his first three starts with Seattle, Anderson is still looking for his first win with his new organization. Anderson was actually on the hook for the loss after departing with Texas up 1-0, but Seattle tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on Jarred Kelenic's bases-loaded walk. The southpaw is expected to face Texas again when he makes his fourth start with the Mariners next week, though that outing will come on the road rather than in Seattle.
Aug 6, 2021
Another no-decision
Anderson didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Yankees after allowing two runs on five hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out four.
ANALYSIS
Anderson has made two starts for Seattle and both have ended in no-decisions, but the veteran has been pitching well over the last few weeks. Anderson has given up three or fewer runs in seven straight appearances while going 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and three quality starts during that span.
Aug 1, 2021
No-decision in M's debut
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Rangers, allowing three runs on six hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw held Texas scoreless for four innings in his Seattle debut before he began to fade, and Anderson exited after 87 pitches (62 strikes) in line for the loss before the M's tied it up in the top of the ninth to get him off the hook. Justin Dunn (shoulder) and Justus Sheffield (forearm) are expected to rejoin the rotation at some point in August, which could push Anderson into a long relief role, but until then the 31-year-old will try to help keep his new club in the wild-card hunt. On the season, he sports a 4.39 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 89:25 K:BB through 108.2 innings.
Jul 31, 2021
Team debut coming Saturday
Anderson is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had been in line to pitch his final game for the Pirates on Wednesday, but he was scratched from his scheduled start after Pittsburgh agreed in principle to send him to Philadelphia. The deal was scrapped after one of the Pirates weren't satisfied with the medical reports of one of the Phillies prospects they were set to receive in return, but Pittsburgh quickly found another willing trade partner in Seattle, who sent minor leaguers Carter Bins and Joaquin Tejeda out to acquire Anderson. The 31-year-old southpaw hasn't been a major fantasy asset this season with a 4.35 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 86:25 K:BB across 103.1 innings, but he should at least add some stability to the back end of a Seattle rotation that has been hit hard by injuries.
Jul 28, 2021
Now heading to Seattle
The Mariners reached an agreement to acquire Anderson from the Pirates on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander appeared to be on his way to Philadelphia when an agreement was reached earlier in the day, but the trade fell through due to the medicals of one of the return players. Pittsburgh didn't take long to find a new trade partner and new team for Anderson. The new deal is also pending a review of medicals, and it remains unclear what players the Mariners are sending to Pittsburgh.
Jul 27, 2021
Trade to Philadelphia on hold
Anderson was seen throwing in the Pirates' bullpen before Thursday's game as the trade doesn't appear to have gone through yet, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear what the holdup is with the trade, and thus whether Anderson will indeed be joining the Phillies for the remainder of the season. More details about the trade figure to become available by the end of Tuesday.
Jul 27, 2021
Moves across Pennsylvania
Anderson was traded from the Pirates to the Phillies in exchange for Cristian Hernandez and Abrahan Gutierrez on Tuesday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson will head east along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in a deal which was rumored to be close earlier in the day, when Anderson was scratched from what would have been his final start as a Pirate. Exactly what Anderson has to offer the Phillies is unclear, but all he has to do is be better than Matt Moore (5.79 ERA) or Vince Velasquez (5.54 ERA) to improve the team's playoff chances. Anderson's 4.35 ERA on the season suggests that's an easy bar to clear, but he's one of the pitchers whose spin rate dropped noticeably after the league started cracking down on foreign substances. He'll also be moving from one of the league's more pitcher-friendly parks to one of the more hitter-friendly venues, which could hurt his fantasy value.
Jul 27, 2021
Scratched due to imminent deal
Anderson won't start Tuesday against the Brewers as previously scheduled, as he's expected to be traded to the Phillies, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal is not quite official, but the Pirates have no need to risk the lefty getting hurt Tuesday with the trade seemingly close to the finish line. The specifics of the move have not yet been announced. Anderson hasn't been anything special, and his spin rate has fallen noticeably since the league began cracking down on foreign substances, but the bar to improve the back end of the Phillies' roster is quite low for a contender. While Anderson could have a better shot at wins due to increased run support, that could be more than offset by a big downgrade in park factors if he does indeed move to Philadelphia.

Quality start goes to waste
Anderson did not factor in the decision against Arizona on Tuesday. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw picked up his fourth quality start in his past seven outings and departed the contest with Pittsburgh staked to a two-run lead. However, the Pirates' bullpen allowed eight runs after Anderson's exit, and Arizona cruised to an 11-6 win. Despite the no-decision, Anderson pitched relatively well, connecting on first-pitch strikes to 18 of the 25 batters he faced and throwing 56 of 77 pitches for strikes overall. Over his past three starts, the veteran hurler has allowed only five earned runs over 18 innings. Anderson's is projected to next take the mound at home against Milwaukee early next week.

Hit with eighth loss
Anderson (3-8) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three over five innings Monday against the Rockies.
ANALYSIS
Anderson gave up the only two runs of the ballgame, one on an RBI triple to right in the third inning, and the other on a solo homer in the fifth. Despite losing three of his last four decisions, he hasn't exactly pitched poorly of late, holding his opponents to three runs or fewer in three of those outings. Anderson owns a 4.75 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 72:22 K:BB across 85.1 frames in 2021.
Jun 22, 2021
Puts in quality start
Anderson allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four across 6.2 innings Tuesday against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed only two hits through six shutout innings. He ran into trouble in the seventh frame, allowing two singles before giving up a three-run shot to Yasmani Grandal. Though he didn't walk away with the win as a result, it was a promising outing for Anderson as he was roughed up for six runs in his last start. Overall, he has a 4.85 ERA with a 69:21 K:BB across 80.1 innings on the campaign.
Jun 16, 2021
Roughed up in opening frame
Anderson (3-7) was charged with the loss Tuesday at Washington after surrendering six runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and a walk across six innings.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old allowed three singles to load the bases before recording an out Tuesday, and he served up a grand slam to Yan Gomes as part of a five-run frame. The lefty settled down after that with one run given up on four hits over the following five innings, but the damage was already done. Anderson has a 4.89 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 65:20 K:BB over 73.2 innings this season, and he tentatively lines up for a tough matchup with the White Sox next week.
Jun 10, 2021
Quality start in loss
Anderson (3-6) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings. He took the loss versus the Dodgers on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Unfortunately for Anderson, his two biggest mistakes left the yard off the bat of Justin Turner. Beyond those two homers, the southpaw was decent but not spectacular. He completed six innings for the first time since May 9 and just the fourth time in 12 starts overall. For the year, he has a 4.52 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 61:19 K:BB across 67.2 innings. Anderson lines up for a favorable start in Washington next week.
Jun 4, 2021
Surrenders three earned runs
Anderson allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four across 5.1 innings Thursday against the Marlins. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson allowed only one earned run prior to being pulled after recording one out in the sixth inning. However, he exited with runners on second and third, both of whom came around to score. Anderson has now failed to work at least six innings in eight of his 11 outings this season. Through 61.2 total frames, he's maintained a 4.67 ERA with 59 strikeouts.
May 28, 2021
Tagged with fifth loss
Anderson (3-5) allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out four in five innings to take the loss against the Cubs on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was charged with a somewhat unlucky loss Thursday since a fielding error by first baseman Will Craig with two outs in the third inning allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate in the frame. The southpaw has now given up at least two earned runs in each of his last five starts and has been charged with losses in three of those appearances. Anderson tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against Kansas City on Tuesday.
May 21, 2021
Ambushed by Atlanta
Anderson (3-4) took the loss Friday as the Pirates were routed 20-1 by Atlanta, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The seven whiffs tied his season high, but that's cold comfort for any fantasy GMs who had the southpaw active. Anderson went five straight starts without serving up any homers in April and early May, but he's now been taken deep five times in his last two trips to the mound. He'll carry a 4.73 ERA and 51:16 K:BB through 51.1 innings into his next outing.
May 16, 2021
Escapes with no-decision
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Giants, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw got taken deep by Darin Ruf and Brandon Crawford in the first inning, digging a quick 3-0 hole, and Anderson left the game in line for his fourth loss before a late rally by Pittsburgh got him off the hook. The outing snapped a string of three straight quality starts for Anderson, and he sports a 3.50 ERA and surprisingly solid 44:14 K:BB through 46.1 innings on the season.
May 13, 2021
Start moved to Saturday
Anderson was originally projected to start Friday, but he will now start Saturday instead, Mike Persak of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming injury isn't involved, Anderson will still draw the same matchup against the Giants. Anderson has been a pleasant surprise early on this season, maintaining a 3.05 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across 41.1 innings through seven starts. Miguel Yajure was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to start Friday's game.
May 9, 2021
Makes quick work of Cubs
Anderson (3-3) limited the Cubs to two earned runs in eight innings Sunday, striking out six while allowing four hits and a walk in a 6-5 win.
ANALYSIS
After he was staked to a first-inning, four-run lead, Anderson pounded the strike zone. He threw 71 of 102 pitches for strikes and gave his team a much-needed quality outing. The southpaw lowered his earned-run average to 3.04 in 40.1 innings. He's set to face off against the team that non-tendered him following the 2020 season, the Giants, in the coming week.
May 4, 2021
Loss in quality start
Anderson (2-3) fell 2-0 to San Diego on Wednesday, going 6.2 innings and allowing two hits, three walks and two runs with five strikeouts.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was matching San Diego's arsenal of relievers until he faced the middle of the order for the third time in the bottom of the seventh and allowed two runs before being removed. He's now allowed two earned runs or fewer in four straight starts and is the owner of a 3.24 ERA.
Apr 28, 2021
Allows one run over six frames
Anderson gave up one run on three hits and two walks over six innings during Tuesday's 2-1 win over Kansas City. He had five strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander was unable to pick up his third win of the season despite the strong showing, as Pittsburgh didn't score it's second run of the contest until the bottom of the seventh inning. Anderson is pitching well to open the season with a 3.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 26:8 K:BB through 26.2 innings during his first season with the Pirates.
Apr 21, 2021
Strikes out seven in win
Anderson (2-2) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader against the Tigers.
ANALYSIS
Anderson threw 64 of his 90 pitches for strikes. He benefited from the Pirates' three-run fourth inning to give them a lead. Anderson has been solid in 2021 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB across 20.2 innings. He is expected to make his next start during next week's two-game series versus the Royals.
Apr 20, 2021
Scheduled start postponed
Anderson won't start Tuesday against the Tigers as scheduled as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday. Anderson will likely start one of those two games, though that would presumably mean he won't get a two-start week this week, as he'd no longer be lined up to start again Sunday in Minnesota.
Apr 14, 2021
Allows one run in win
Anderson (1-2) allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings, as he earned the win over the Padres on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson had a spectacular bounceback performance Wednesday after he suffered a pair of losses to the Cubs in his first two starts of the season. The 31-year-old left-hander did not allow a base runner past second and was charged with his only run after he was pulled from the game in the sixth, as reliever Duane Underwood allowed Manny Machado to score on an RBI single by Tommy Pham. Anderson lowered his ERA to 4.02 and has compiled a solid 14:4 K:BB over 15.2 innings and could be a solid streaming option in his next start when he faces the Tigers on April 20.
Apr 9, 2021
Tagged with loss
Anderson (0-2) allowed three earned runs on 10 hits and no walks while striking out five across 5.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was burned by the long ball, as homers by Kris Bryant and Javier Baez accounted for all three of his earned runs. While he didn't surrender any walks, it's possible Anderson was in the strike zone too much, as he was tagged for 10 hits. Anderson has had mediocre results across two starts with the Pirates, surrendering six earned runs across 10.1 innings while accruing a 12:2 K:BB. Anderson currently lines up to make his next start Wednesday against the Padres.
Apr 3, 2021
Pitches decently Saturday
Anderson allowed three earned runs on five hits and two walks in five innings of a 5-1 loss to the Cubs on Saturday. He struck out seven batters.
ANALYSIS
The lefty, who recorded 22 swings-and-misses, took advantage of the free-swinging Cubs but surrendered a solo homer to Kris Bryant. He's lined up to make the team's home Opening Day start Thursday, though nothing has been announced.
Mar 31, 2021
Season debut set for Saturday
Anderson is scheduled to start the Pirates' second game of the season Saturday against the Cubs, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Due mostly to the Pirates' lack of appealing alternatives for the rotation, Anderson never faced much resistance this spring in his bid for a starting role. While Anderson's 5.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 18:2 K:BB over 18 innings in the Grapefruit League were hardly world-beating, his numbers stacked up favorably with the rest of the team's rotation candidates. He's thus expected to enter 2021 with a decent amount of leash in the rotation, but Anderson likely won't warrant much consideration in fantasy as anything more than a deep-league streaming option.
Mar 11, 2021
Struggles against New York
Anderson surrendered five earned runs in three innings against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing eight hits and no hits while striking out a pair.
ANALYSIS
The lefty, who gave up homers to both Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, is expected to start 2021 as part of the team's rotation. His home field, PNC Park, is ideal for left-handed pitchers. At best, he may serve as a streaming option against weak-hitting squads at home.
Mar 4, 2021
Makes Grapefruit League debut
Anderson allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out three batters in two scoreless innings against Atlanta on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
He labored through 43 pitches, though he threw 31 for strikes and didn't issue a walk. The lefty figures to serve in the back end of the team's rotation. Anderson limits hard contact (31 percent career rate) but has never struck out more than 22.3 percent of opposing batters in five MLB seasons. At 31 years of age, the organization is looking for him to eat innings and help its young pitching staff.
Feb 16, 2021
Signs with Pirates
Anderson signed a major-league contract with the Pirates on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The financial terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. Anderson has had a bit of a rocky career path, but the Pirates evidently have faith that he's still a big-league pitcher. His 4.30 ERA over the first three years of his career was better than it looked given that he pitched for Colorado, but he slipped to an awful 11.76 ERA in five starts in 2019 before being shut down with knee issues. He rebounded to record a 4.37 ERA as a Giant last season, though his 15.8 percent strikeout rate and 28.5 percent groundball rate were both worryingly low. There doesn't appear to be much reason to get excited here, but he's at least landed in a spot where he has a good chance to start, keeping him on the radar as a streaming or deep-league option given the weakness of the NL Central.
Dec 2, 2020
Let go by San Francisco
Anderson was non-tendered by the Giants on Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The left-hander started 11 games for the Giants during the shortened season and had a 4.37 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 41:25 K:BB over 59.1 innings. Anderson spent the previous four seasons with the Rockies and had a 4.69 ERA in 73 appearances (71 starts).
Sep 26, 2020
Posts quality start Friday
Anderson (4-3) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks while also striking out four across six innings as he earned the win over the Padres on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Friday's outing was a solid one for Anderson who really only had some minor struggles with allowing walks in the game. He gave up an RBI-double to Tommy Pham in the second but otherwise kept it clean until he came back out for the seventh and surrendered a leadoff double to end his night. Anderson was charged with a second earned run but fortunately still picked up a win as the Padres would pile on three runs in the seventh in a failed comeback attempt. Anderson's effort Friday has the Giants in prime position to make the postseason as the southpaw has put up a 4.37 ERA and has reeled off three wins in his last four starts to finish out the regular season.
Sep 20, 2020
Solid in win
Anderson (3-3) allowed two unearned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.2 innings in a win over the Athletics on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was ejected from his start Thursday, allowing him to pitch again on short rest, and he delivered solid results given the circumstances. The 30-year-old lowered his ERA to 4.53 with a 1.38 WHIP and 37:21 K:BB in 53.2 innings this season in 12 appearances (10 starts). The southpaw lines up for a start in one game of Friday's doubleheader versus the Padres.
Sep 19, 2020
Set to start Sunday
Anderson will start Sunday's game against the Athletics, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnny Cueto was originally slated to start Sunday, but the Giants will push him back to Monday for some extra rest. Anderson last took the mound Thursday, but he was ejected after only two innings and will return for his next start on two days rest.
Sep 17, 2020
Tossed early
Anderson threw two innings of four-hit, four-run ball on Thursday prior to being ejected, as the Giants beat the Marinera 6-4. He struck out three while walking one.
ANALYSIS
Home plate umpire Edwin Moscoso was maligned on the broadcast throughout the afternoon and Anderson paid the price after arguing balls and strikes in the third. Nonetheless, after pitching six scoreless innings versus the Mariners in his last start on Sept. 9, Anderson was much less sharp this time around. He'll look to bounce back in his next start against Colorado on Tuesday.
Sep 15, 2020
Start postponed by poor air quality
Anderson won't start Tuesday in Seattle as scheduled, as the game has been postponed due to air quality issues, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Parts of the West Coast have the world's worst air quality at the moment due to wildfires tearing through the region. The teams will travel down to San Francisco, where the situation is slightly better, and will hope to complete their two-game series on Wednesday and Thursday. Anderson will presumably start one of those two games.
Sep 10, 2020
Hurls six scoreless frames
Anderson (2-3) earned the win Wednesday after holding the Mariners scoreless across six innings. He allowed three hits and a walk while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw snapped a two-game losing streak to pick up his second win of the season. Anderson threw 65-of-100 pitches for strikes while blanking the Mariners across six innings. It was the fourth time this season that Anderson did not allow a run. The 30-year-old will look to continue improving upon a 4.50 ERA and 1.35 WHIP during a rematch at Seattle on Tuesday.
Sep 5, 2020
Second straight loss
Anderson (1-3) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning two across four innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson's last two starts against Arizona haven't been pretty -- he has given up 11 runs on 16 hits and four walks while fanning five across 8.2 innings. He also tossed a complete game against the Diamondbacks on Aug. 22, however, so he has shown the ability to get things done in the past. Through nine appearances (seven starts), Anderson owns a 5.18 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP this season. His next scheduled start will come Sep. 9 at home against the Mariners.
Aug 29, 2020
Takes loss against Arizona
Anderson (1-2) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks. He gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks while fanning three across 4.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was coming off a complete game against Arizona in his previous start and had allowed two or fewer runs in five of his first seven starts of the season, but he crumbled early in this game and didn't find a way to turn things around. It seems the complete game of Aug. 22 might be an outlier instead of the norm going forward for the 30-year-old lefty, as he has now given up four or more runs in three of his last four starts.
Aug 23, 2020
Goes distance for first win
Anderson (1-1) allowed one unearned run in nine innings to pick up the win against Arizona on Saturday. He yielded three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was sharp in his first career complete game, needing only 103 pitches to close out the victory. The only run against him came in the seventh inning as a result of a throwing error by Brandon Crawford, a stolen base and a single. The dominant performance was a significant improvement over Anderson's previous two outings, when he gave up a combined nine runs over 10 innings. The southpaw will look to build upon his strong start when he heads to Arizona for a rematch with the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Aug 18, 2020
No-decision Monday
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Monday's game between the Giants and the Angels. He allowed five runs on eight hits and one walk while fanning eight across five innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson notched a season-high mark in strikeouts that came out of nowhere, as he had racked up 10 total punchouts in his previous four starts. That said, Anderson has also allowed nine earned runs and 13 hits in his last 10 innings across his past two starts, and that doesn't bode well for his upcoming start scheduled for Aug. 22 at home against Arizona.
Aug 12, 2020
No-decision Tuesday
Anderson didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's contest between the Giants and the Astros. He allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning two across five innings.
ANALYSIS
Anderson didn't fare as well as he did during his first start of the season -- he pitched five scoreless innings at Colorado on Aug. 6 -- but he should remain in the rotation considering both Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) and Drew Smyly (finger) remain in the injured list. If that's the case, then Anderson's next start could come Aug. 17 on the road against the Angels.
Aug 11, 2020
Gets another start
Anderson is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Astros in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Anderson joined the San Francisco rotation Aug. 6 as a replacement for Drew Smyly (finger) and fared well at his former stomping grounds in Coors Field, holding the Rockies scoreless and ceding two hits and two walks over five innings. He'll be rewarded with a second turn through the rotation and should have some longevity as a starter for the club if he can continue to deliver quality results. Shortly after Smyly was moved to the injured list last week, he was joined by another starting pitcher in Jeff Samardzija (shoulder).
Aug 6, 2020
Handles Coors Field
Anderson allowed two hits and two walks while striking out three across five scoreless innings Thursday against the Rockies. He did not factor into the decision.
ANALYSIS
Anderson got a shot in the rotation due to an injury to Drew Smyly (finger). He was effective in a tough environment, holding the Rockies scoreless at Coors Field. Anderson wasn't overpowering, but didn't allow any extra-base hits to stay out of trouble. Reports suggest Smyly won't return to the mound until at least mid-August, meaning Anderson could stick in the rotation for the time being. If that is the case, he'd line up to start next on Tuesday at Houston.
Aug 6, 2020
Joining rotation Thursday
Anderson will start Thursday's game against the Rockies, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury to Drew Smyly (finger) opens up a spot in the starting rotation, and Anderson will receive the first crack at filling the hole against his former team. The 30-year-old has served as an opener and long reliever early in the season for the Giants, and he has a 3.68 ERA, 1.91 WHIP and 4:6 K:BB through 7.1 innings.
Jul 30, 2020
Works in long relief
Anderson tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief in Wednesday's 7-6 win over the Padres. He scattered four hits and two walks and struck out two in the 49-pitch outing.
ANALYSIS
After serving as an opening pitcher for Kevin Gausman in both players' season debuts Friday against the Dodgers, Anderson shifted into more of a long-relief role in his second outing of the campaign. He provided the Giants with quality length out of the bullpen, recording as many outs as starter Johnny Cueto in 38 fewer pitches. The lefty's prior starting experience could result in him getting a look in the San Francisco rotation down the road, but it will be difficult to mine fantasy value from him in his current role.
Jul 25, 2020
Charged with loss
Anderson (0-1) was charged with the loss at Dodger Stadium on Friday after surrendering two runs on three hits and three walks over 1.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
The southpaw was making his debut as the opener for the Giants after he was claimed off waivers from the Rockies during the offseason. Anderson gave up a solo home run to Max Muncy in the first inning and allowed a two-out RBI single to Justin Turner in the second before his outing was cut short. The 30-year-old, taking the mound for the first time in a regular season game since May 3, 2019 due to undergoing knee surgery, posted an 11.76 ERA and 2.13 WHIP across five contests last year.
Jul 24, 2020
Serving as opener Saturday
Anderson will serve as the Giants' opener Saturday against the Dodgers, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Jeff Samardzija was expected to get the start in Saturday's contest, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Anderson will start with Samardzija serving as the primary pitcher. Anderson underwent knee surgery last June, but the delayed start to the season allowed him to fully recover for the 2020 campaign. The southpaw struggled with the Rockies prior to his injury in 2019, logging an 11.76 ERA and 2.13 WHIP over 20.2 innings across five starts.
Jun 23, 2020
Ready to go for resumed season
Anderson (knee) is back to full health and isn't expected to face any limitations when the Giants resume training, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Had the 2020 season started in late March as originally scheduled, Anderson likely would have been headed for the injured list, but MLB's three-plus-month layoff has afforded him ample recovery time from the knee surgery he required last June. The southpaw made all but two of his 73 career appearances with the Rockies as a starter, but he'll likely have to settle for a long-relief role if the Giants include him as part of their expanded roster when the season restarts.
Mar 26, 2020
Should be ready when play resumes
Anderson (knee) is ahead of schedule and should be ready to pitch when play resumes, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson underwent knee surgery in June and was expected to miss the beginning of the season. However, he was ahead of schedule when play was suspended and could be an option for the Giants either in the rotation or bullpen when play resumes. Anderson struggled through 20.2 innings with the Rockies before undergoing season-ending surgery in 2019, posting an 11.76 ERA and 2.13 WHIP.
Dec 3, 2019
Signs with Giants
Anderson (knee) signed a one-year contract with the Giants on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
The two sides came to an agreement just one day after Anderson was non-tendered by the Giants. The southpaw dealt with knee issues for most of the 2019 season, making just five starts and finishing with an 11.76 ERA, 2.13 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB across 20.2 innings with the Rockies. Anderson likely won't be ready for the start of the 2020 season after undergoing knee surgery in June, though he should compete for a rotation spot once healthy.
Dec 2, 2019
Heads to free agency
Anderson (knee) was non-tendered by the Giants on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson was picked up off waivers by the Giants at the end of October, but he'll now head to the open market. He struggled to an 11.76 ERA and 2.13 WHIP with a 23:11 K:BB over 20.2 innings in 2019 with Colorado. Anderson isn't expected to be ready for Opening Day after undergoing left knee surgery in June.
