The three-hit performance for Guerrero lifted his average to a healthy .268 on the season to go along with 20 home runs. The 23-year-old's numbers are still down from his incredible breakout season last year but he is just a second-half hot streak away from his stat line looking more like those of his elite peers.

Guerrero launched a solo shot off Zack Wheeler in the bottom of the fourth inning before later adding another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the following frame. Now sitting on a .262/.347/.434 slash line for the season, the struggling Guerrero could be in line for a day off in the near future.

Guerrero took Aaron Civale yard in the first inning to record his seventh home run of the season. He has gone yard only twice in his last 18 starts, and he has just five extra-base hits in that span. Despite the slow stretch, Guerrero still has an impressive .290/.364/.559 line to go along with 14 runs scored and 19 RBI across 107 plate appearances.

Guerrero had a day off Thursday with a minor foot issue but he looked plenty healthy Friday, launching a three-run shot off Jose Urquidy in the third inning. The 23-year-old slugger is slashing .301/.369/.575 with six homers and 16 RBI through 84 plate appearances. He was 10-for-38 (.263) without a home run in his previous 11 contests.

Guerrero (foot) is starting at first base and batting third Friday against the Astros.

The 23-year-old sat out Thursday's series opener after fouling a pitch off his right foot Wednesday against the Red Sox, but his absence will be limited to just one game, as expected. Guerrero initially played through the injury and had X-rays come back negative, so there shouldn't be any lingering concern now that he's retaking the field.

Guerrero (foot) is expected to be available for Friday's game against the Astros, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Manager Charlie Montoyo said Guerrero was set to pinch hit late in Thursday's win over the Red Sox, but he didn't end up appearing in the game. However, he received treatment Thursday after fouling a ball off his right foot Wednesday, so he's expected to be available following a one-game absence.

Guerrero underwent X-rays on his right foot Wednesday which were negative, but his foot is still sore enough that he won't be in the lineup for Thursday's game against Boston, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The right-handed hitter will have a lot of eyes on him as many analysts project a breakout season from him giving his raw power. It was Guerrero's second home run of the season and he knocked in teammate Bo Bichette to take the lead in the sixth inning. He is slashing .348/.483/.652.

The righty slugger is off to a strong start, hitting .316 through 19 at-bats as the five-hole hitter. This comes despite the struggles of his star teammates, Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel, both of whom have been slumping ahead of him in the order. Slimmer than he was a year ago, Guerrero appears to be benefiting from a more contact-based approach at the plate, and the move to first base has allowed him to focus more on his swing, and less on fielding at the hot corner. Even so, Guerrero still boasts the power to build on his one homer thus far and post a respectable home run total in 2021.

Guerrero crushed a double with an exit velocity of 110 mph during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Tigers, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

It's far from the first time this spring the 22-year-old had reached triple digits in exit velocity. Guerrero has erupted for a .520/.613/.840 slash line this spring over 12 games with five extra-base hits (three doubles, a triple and a homer) and a stellar 6:2 BB:K. Perhaps more importantly, he's shown an improved launch angle when he has made hard contact, which has been viewed as the key to him unlocking his full potential at the plate. It's taken a couple of years, but Guerrero seems poised to start matching his massive minor-league numbers in the majors.

Guerrero hit his first Grapefruit League home run of the spring Friday against the Tigers, crushing a line drive 412 feet to center field that left his bat at 111.2 mph, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. "He just feels good about himself right now," said Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo after the game. "He's in great shape. He had a great offseason. Not only that, in the intrasquad game we had yesterday, he hit two home runs. His last five at-bats have been hard-hit balls like that. We know what he can d

The 21-year-old came to camp in much better physical condition in an effort to prove he can handle third base defensively, but a slimmed-down Guerrero has looked great at the plate as well, going 5-for-12 so far with four walks and only one strikeout. Friday's homer was his first extra-base hit in Grapefruit League action however, and it remains to be seen whether improved fitness will help him solve the launch-angle issues that have prevented him from blossoming as expected in the majors.

Guerrero revealed Wednesday that he lost 42 pounds during the offseason, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. "It was fun...wasn't difficult," Guerrero said of his physical transformation. "I feel quicker on all aspects of my game, right now...defensively and offensively."

Reports had surfaced throughout the offseason indicating that Guerrero had made a commitment to improving his conditioning, but it wasn't until Wednesday that he detailed the extent of his weight loss. The lighter frame should help Guerrero in his efforts to be a usable option at either corner-infield spot in 2021, after he was used exclusively at first base and designated hitter in 2020. Guerrero is still likely to be a below-average defender at third base, but if he can at least play enough at the position to regain eligibility in fantasy leagues, it would be a nice boost to his value. More importantly, though, Guerrero must show some growth as a power hitter to justify his draft-day price; he produced a modest nine home runs in 60 games last season, with an inability to consistently get loft on his swing (54.6 percent groundball rate) being the main culprit.

Guerrero is hoping to prove in the Dominican Winter League that he can still be an option at third base for the Blue Jays in 2021, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

He has reportedly lost 40 pounds since July and 20 since the end of the season, down to 245 pounds. Guerrero moved to first base this past season, but it would give the Blue Jays some extra versatility if he could play both corner infield spots. Typically players don't move back up the defensive spectrum, but it's possible in this case if Guerrero is diligent about staying in better shape.

Guerrero was granted permission to play in the Dominican Winter League, Yancen Pujols of El Caribe reports.

There's really no downside here for Guerrero. It will be easier for him to stay in shape and it gives him a chance to get into a groove at the dish ahead of spring training.

Guerrero is "a little dizzy" Saturday and is being held out of the starting lineup as a result, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

A pitch grazed Guerrero's helmet and face Friday, and manager Charlie Montoyo said that he's being held out because he's experiencing dizziness. Montoyo didn't sound too concerned about the issue, but Travis Shaw could continue to serve at first base with Joe Panik playing at third if Guerrero is forced to miss any additional time.

The young slugger has had some trouble so far in his career getting enough loft on the ball to fully take advantage of his power, but Guerrero demonstrated Friday that he doesn't need much launch angle to go yard -- his frozen rope into the seats in left field left his bat at a stunning 115.6 mph, but at an angle of only 16 degrees. On the season, the 21-year-old is slashing a mediocre .242/.317/.418 with four homers and seven RBI, but three of those long balls have come in his last 10 games, a stretch during which he's slashing a more impressive .270/.372/.514.

Guerrero went 2-for-5 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Marlins.

Guerrero ended his home run drought at nine games, as he took James Hoyt deep in the seventh inning. It was second home run of the season, though he has also recorded four doubles in his last eight contests. Overall, Guerrero is hitting a disappointing .237/.286/.407 across 47 plate appearances to this point in the campaign.

Guerrero went 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-1 loss to Atlanta.

The 21-year-old has struggled to make hard contact to begin the season, so this performance was encouraging -- especially on a night when the Jays only managed five hits in total. Guerrero is hitting .219 (7-for-32) through eight games as he searches for a way to translate his dominant minor-league numbers to the majors.

The blast to left-center field was Guerrero's first homer since last August, but it very nearly wasn't -- Victor Robles got his glove on it at the top of the wall but then collided with Emilio Bonifacio, and lost both ball and glove over the fence. Guerrero has gone 5-for-21 (.238) through five games to begin the season, but Tuesday's good fortune might have been just what the 21-year-old needed to get into a groove.

Guerrero was widely expected to most to first base eventually, though it wasn't clear that he'd move so soon. He'll still be considered a possibility at the hot corner, but his defense graded out very poorly there according to both DRS and UZR, so the move is hardly a surprise. He should pick up the additional eligibility early in the season, though he'll likely lose third-base eligibility for 2022, which could affect owners in dynasty formats. Travis Shaw is expected to be Toronto's primary third baseman this season.

Guerrero has been able to hit at a batting cage near his home in the Dominican Republic to try and stay sharp while MLB is on pause, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Based on pics posted to his Instagram feed, Guerrero has not only been hitting but has been able to stay in good shape, something that was a concern after his weight and general fitness level came into question towards the end of his rookie campaign. Expect the young slugger to be ready to go once training camps open up again, and the potential for a breakout 2020 from the second-generation player remains high.

Manager Charlie Montoyo said Thursday that he plans to use Guerrero as the Blue Jays' cleanup hitter this season, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Heading into spring training, Guerrero appeared likely to slot in as the Blue Jays' No. 3 hitter, but the 20-year-old expressed a desire to drop down a spot in the order. Instead, Toronto plans to use Lourdes Gurriel out of the three hole, as Guerrero told Montoyo he feels he can benefit from observing Gurriel's at-bats beforehand since pitchers tend to attack both hitters the same way. Guerrero's fantasy outlook won't change much whether he bats third or fourth, as he should benefit from plenty of run-producing chances regardless while a pair of high on-base batters in Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio occupy the top two spots in the order.

It's a little unusual for a manager to be setting his regular-season batting order this early, but given the nature of the Jays roster it's no surprise that Charlie Montoyo plans to put his trio of talented youngsters right at the top. Hitting third behind two players adept at getting on base in Bichette (.358 OBP in 2019) and Biggio (.364) could allow Guerrero to challenge for 100 RBI in his second MLB season after he drove in 69 in 123 games as a rookie.

Guerrero has been working with hitting coach Guillermo Martinez to refine his swing plane and improve his launch angle, Gregor Chisholm of The Toronto Star reports.

The 20-year-old is coming off a solid rookie season, but Vladito didn't meet the inflated expectations attached to him in the minors thanks in large part to a 6.7 percent launch angle and groundball rate north of 50 percent. Guerrero demonstrated in the Home Run Derby that he can crush a baseball; the trick now is to do it more consistently during game conditions. If he can add more loft to the ball and make better contact, the sky is the limit on his power potential.

Guerrero (knee) is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Guerrero left Wednesday's game against the Orioles with a left rib injury, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

Guerrero went 2-for-6 with one run and one strikeout before being replaced by a pinch runner (Jonathan Davis). The injury occurred during a collision at second base with Jonathan Villar. He is being evaluated by Toronto's medical staff.

Guerrero's inclusion in the lineup was somewhat surprising after he was diagnosed with inflammation in his left knee over the weekend, but Monday's team off day apparently remedied the matter. The Blue Jays could choose to give him a maintenance day in the near future but Guerrero's knee otherwise doesn't appear to be a concern moving forward.

Heyman's report more or less aligns with what Guerrero had to say about his left knee injury Sunday, when the rookie labeled his bout with inflammation as "nothing major." Guerrero has already missed one game with the injury and seems unlikely to be ready to go for Tuesday's series opener, but the fact that the Blue Jays aren't considering the 20-year-old as week-to-week implies some level of optimism that he'll avoid a stint on the injured list. Brandon Drury will likely handle most of the action at the hot corner for however long Guerrero is ultimately sidelined.
