Lawson returned to a bench Monday after starting in the previous two games, and he did it in style while posting the best performance of his young NBA career. This was just the second time he scored in double digits this season, so it'd be a stretch to believe he might score at this rate on a sustained basis going forward. At the very least, though, Lawson should be in line to see more minutes off the bench ahead of the final month-plus of the regular season.

The 24-year-old spent the 2023-24 campaign on a two-way pact with Dallas, during which he averaged 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds across 7.4 minutes per game in 42 regular-season appearances. Lawson has shot 46.1 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from three-point range across 57 regular-season games over his two-year NBA career.

The Mavericks waived Lawson on Friday.

Lawson played on a two-way contract with the Mavericks in 2022-23, making a total of 14 brief appearances. He was having a shaky Summer League prior to Friday, averaging 9.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 34.6 percent shooting from the field.

Even with Kyrie Irving (back) sitting out Wednesday, Dallas head coach Jason Kidd expanded his rotation to 11 men, allowing Lawson to make his first appearance since Feb. 6. Though Lawson acquitted himself well during his limited time on the court, the two-way player will likely find himself outside of the rotation and perhaps back in the G League when the Mavericks open their post-All-Star-break schedule.

Ryan is expected to give the Timberwolves another perimeter shooter off the bench, a skill hasn't consistently flashed since signing a two-way deal with Minnesota in mid-November. Though he saw just two minutes of garbage-time run with the NBA team, Lawson shot 28.1 percent from three-point range over 141 minutes of action with the G League's Iowa Wolves.

Lawson is averaging 19.6 points on 51.8 percent shooting across eight appearances in the G League. However, he's played in only one game for the Timberwolves, so he remains irrelevant in most fantasy leagues.
