ANALYSIS
Thompson continued his recent scoring surge, tallying a season-high 31 points, his third straight game with at least 20 points. After a somewhat underwhelming start to the season, Thompson has slowly turned things around. In 14 appearances over the past month, he has averaged 18.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.6 blocks in 36.9 minutes per contest, good enough for top 50 value in standard leagues.

ANALYSIS
After a rough, two-game stretch to close out November, Thompson has been hot coming into December, scoring at least 20 points in back-to-back games while racking up the defensive stats. Thompson provided 23 points (8-16 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 7-9 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks over 37 minutes during Monday's 133-125 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Thompson bounced back from a dud Sunday against the Jazz in which he was held to five points on 2-for-8 from the field. He was far more aggressive on the offensive end Monday, and while he was unable to connect from deep, he still reached the 20-point threshold. Thompson has also been productive on the boards of late, averaging 9.0 rebounds over his last seven appearances.

Double-double in Wednesday's win
Thompson contributed 10 points (4-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists and one steal in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 104-100 victory over Golden State.
ANALYSIS
The 14 boards were a season high for Thompson, and the double-double was his third in 16 games. The third-year guard has scored in double digits in every contest so far in 2025-26, averaging 17.4 points, 6.9 boards, 5.1 assists and 1.4 steals in 36.6 minutes. Thompson's long-distance shooting remains the weak link in his skill set, however -- he's shooting just 22.2 percent (8-for-36) from beyond the arc.

With Kevin Durant (personal) set to miss a second straight game Wednesday against Golden State, Thompson figures to see elevated usage once again.
Nov 19, 2025
Tallies five steals in win
Thompson produced 12 points (6-14 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, six assists and five steals in 40 minutes during Wednesday's 114-104 victory over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson fell one rebound shy of a second straight double-double while also leading the Rockets with five steals, a new season best. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a solid start to the 2025-26 season, scoring in double figures in all 13 games while contributing in nearly every category most nights.
Nov 13, 2025
Ties season-high mark in assists
Thompson accumulated 18 points (8-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound, eight assists, one block and three steals in 35 minutes during Wednesday's 135-112 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Thompson had a very efficient performance running the offense for the Rockets, as he missed only three shots from the floor while tying his season-best output in assists. Thompson has scored at least 14 points in each of his six games in November, averaging 19.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.7 blocks per game in that span.
Nov 10, 2025

Thompson closed Sunday's 122-115 victory over the Bucks with 14 points (6-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), eight rebounds, five assists, one block and three steals over 37 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has been involved heavily on both ends of the floor, which has been great for fantasy managers as he continues his resurgent season as the team's lead point guard. In nine games so far, Thompson is averaging 17.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.4 blocks.
Nov 5, 2025

Thompson finished with 28 points (13-26 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals across 39 minutes during Wednesday's 124-109 win over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Thompson filled up the stat sheet, as he got the job done on both ends of the floor while being incredibly efficient, shooting 50 percent from the floor. The two-way guard continues a hot streak, as he's scored 27 points or more in each of the last two games.
Nov 3, 2025

Team option picked up
Houston exercised their 2026-27 team option for Thompson on Friday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS

Oct 29, 2025
Posts 18-9-7-2 line in win
Thompson recorded 18 points (7-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-5 FT), nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals and four turnovers in 40 minutes during Wednesday's 139-121 win over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
While Thompson shot it well from beyond the arc throughout the preseason, he still hasn't been able to get any of his three-point looks to fall through the first four games of the year, going 0-10 from distance. The Rockets clearly want him to keep taking those shots to help spread the floor, but there will be some growing pains. On a positive note, this was his first game of the season with multiple steals and more than four rebounds, so he's trending in the right direction.

Struggles with foul trouble in loss
Thompson finished Friday's 115-111 loss to the Pistons with 10 points (2-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 6-10 FT), four rebounds, one assist and two turnovers across 30, foul-plagued minutes.
ANALYSIS
It's been a slow start to the season for Thompson, who dealt with cramping issues in the opener and then foul trouble in this one. He also got clocked in the face by Jalen Duren, which may have put him off-kilter. That said, he'll draw an ideal matchup against the Nets on Monday, so maybe he'll be able to really step into gear during Week 2.
Oct 23, 2025
Good to go Friday
Thompson (calf) will be in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pistons, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was dealing with cramping in his calf late in Tuesday's 125-124 double-overtime loss to the Thunder, but coach Ime Udoka made no mention of it Thursday. While operating as the starting point guard, Thompson finished with 18 points (8-17 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block across 39 minutes.

He remained on the bench but never checked back into the game. The 22-year-old still finished as Houston's third-leading scorer, though he struggled mightily from beyond the arc. Starting at point guard
Thompson (rest) will start at point guard for Tuesday's Opening Night matchup against the Thunder, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After resting in Thursday's preseason finale, Thompson will be back with the starters to open the regular season. Reed Sheppard will come off the bench with the Rockets utilizing a jumbo lineup, but coach Ime Udoka has previously said that his lineups could be fluid based on matchups. Either way, it's clear Thompson is going to have a massive role on both ends of the floor.
Oct 16, 2025
Resting Thursday

ANALYSIS
The Rockets will be resting seven players for their preseason finale, so expect big minutes for guys like Reed Sheppard and Josh Okogie. Thompson is in no danger of missing opening night, and he'll make for an attractive early-round target on draft day.
Oct 14, 2025

Thompson finished with 21 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 9-9 FT), five rebounds and three assists across 24 minutes during Tuesday's 130-128 preseason win over the Pelicans

Thompson finished with 11 points (4-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three assists, two rebounds, two steals and four turnovers across 26 minutes of Monday's 122-113 preseason win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
With Kevin Durant resting, Houston's offense flowed through Thompson and Alperen Sengun on Monday. Thompson has generated a ton of buzz over the offseason, and he even hit a three-pointer which is something he focused on during the summer. With increased ball-handling expected in the absence of Fred VanVleet (knee), Thompson finds his ADP rising rapidly in fantasy drafts.
Apr 13, 2025

Over 68 games and 41 starts, the youngster averaged 14.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocked shots.
Apr 12, 2025
Ready to return Sunday
Thompson (rest) is not on the injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
The Rockets rested their regular rotation players in the last two contests, but that won't be the case Sunday, because this is the final chance the Rockets will have to log competitive minutes until the playoffs start April 19. As such, Thompson will start and should handle his regular workload in this contest. The second-year combo forward has started in each of his 16 appearances since the All-Star break, averaging 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest.

Thompson put up 14 points (7-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in 29 minutes during Sunday's 106-96 win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
The sophomore wing was a force to be reckoned with on all fronts in the big win, further establishing himself as a member of head coach Ime Udoka's starting lineup. Thompson has averaged 16.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game in 40 outings as a starter this season, compared to just 11.1, 6.6 and 2.2 in 27 games with the second unit. So long as Udoka keeps him with the starters, Thompson has fantasy home run potential.
Apr 1, 2025
Records big line in loss
Thompson notched 20 points (8-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals across 34 minutes during Monday's 104-98 loss to the Lakers.

ANALYSIS
Thompson returned to action after taking a seat to tend his injured ankle, which has kept him out of seven games this month. The second-year pro's mid-range shot was on point in the decisive win, giving the Rockets an offensive shot in the arm as they try to maintain the second seed in the Western Conference. Houston has a back-to-back set this weekend that includes a match against the Lakers, and it's possible that he'll miss one of those games for injury management.
Mar 27, 2025
Available to face Utah
Thompson (ankle) is available for Thursday's matchup against the Jazz, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will return to game action after being a late scratch in Tuesday's win over Atlanta due to left ankle soreness. The 22-year-old has appeared in two outings following a six-game absence due to a sprained left ankle, and he was able to play 30-plus minutes in both of them. Thompson has made six appearances this month, averaging 14.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks across 36.3 minutes per contest.
Mar 26, 2025
Questionable for Thursday
Thompson (ankle) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was a late scratch for Tuesday's game against the Hawks due to left ankle soreness, but the questionable tag suggests that he remains day-to-day. If Thompson is unable to give it a go, guys like Tari Eason, Jabari Smith and Dillon Brooks could soak up some of his usage.
Mar 25, 2025

ANALYSIS
Thompson returned to the court after missing the past six games due to an ankle injury. Demonstrating that it is possible to return from an injury without requiring a ramp-up period, Thompson moved straight into the starting lineup, playing without a minutes' restriction. He picked up where he left off, tallying a career-high seven steals while falling one rebound short of a double-double. Barring any setbacks, Thompson should be good to go as the Rockets look to build momentum heading into the playoffs.
Mar 21, 2025
Full go Friday

Thompson (ankle) is listed as probable for Friday's game versus the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is expected to return to action Friday after missing Houston's previous six outings due to a sprained left ankle. While the 22-year-old could reclaim his starting spot from Tari Eason, he will likely operate on a minutes restriction.

ANALYSIS
Thompson has been out since March 10 due to a sprained left ankle, though he is expected to return shortly after he is able to go through contact drills. An MRI on the 22-year-old's ankle showed no structural damage, though he'll likely operate under a minutes restriction whenever he returns from the extended absence. The second-year pro is expected to miss roughly the next two weeks. Cam Whitmore figures to see an expanded role while Thompson is sidelined.
Mar 8, 2025
Will undergo MRI on Sunday
Thompson (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Sunday after exiting Saturday's win over the Pelicans in the fourth quarter, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson exited Saturday's blowout win over New Orleans after landing on Karlo Matkovic's foot in the fourth quarter, and a more precise timeline of recovery, as well as the potential time he'll be sidelined, will be known after the MRI. According to Iko, Thompson was seen in a walking boot and crutches exiting the arena after Saturday's win, where he posted 15 points (7-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, 11 assists and a block across 33 minutes. Based on this latest update, his chances of playing Monday against the Magic should be slim to none.
Mar 7, 2025
Double-double in New Orleans
Thompson finished Thursday's 109-97 victory over the Pelicans with 21 points (10-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-4 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists and one block in 38 minutes.

Mar 4, 2025
Omitted from injury report
Thompson (shoulder) isn't listed on Houston's injury report for Tuesday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
After missing Monday's loss to the Thunder, Thompson, Alperen Sengun (back) and Dillon Brooks (knee) will all be available for the second half of Houston's back-to-back set. Fred VanVleet (ankle) remains out, so Thompson should be the starting point guard.
Mar 3, 2025
Won't play Monday
Thompson (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will miss just his fourth game of the season due to right shoulder soreness. He'll join Alperen Sengun (back), Fred VanVleet (ankle), Dillon Brooks (knee) and Tari Eason (lower leg) on the shelf for the first night of the club's back-to-back set. Jabari Smith and Cam Whitmore will step into the starting five for Thompson and Brooks at the forward spots.
Mar 2, 2025
Dealing with shoulder soreness
Thompson is questionable for Monday's game against the Thunder due to right shoulder soreness.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is one of five Rockets listed as questionable for Monday's game, which is the first half of a back-to-back set. Fred VanVleet (ankle) has already been ruled out, so Thompson would likely slide back to point guard if he's cleared to suit up versus Oklahoma City.
Feb 28, 2025
Sticking with first unit
Head coach Ime Udoka said Friday that Thompson will remain in the starting five moving forward, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
With Fred VanVleet (ankle) expected to reclaim his role in the starting five on Saturday against the Kings, the Rockets will move Jabari Smith to the second unit, keeping Thompson in the starting lineup. The second-year swingman has started in each of his last 24 appearances due to VanVleet and Smith both missing time, during which he has averaged 16.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks across 37.8 minutes per game.
Feb 27, 2025
Leading scorer in Wednesday's win
Thompson closed with a game-high 25 points (12-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt), nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks across 30 minutes during Wednesday's 118-106 victory over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
After getting ejected from Tuesday's win over the Bucks in the fourth quarter, Thompson returned with a vengeance Wednesday, posting his best scoring effort since Feb. 3. The second-year wing remains an erratic offensive contributor -- he's scored 20 or more points four times in 12 February games, but he's also scored in single digits five times. On the month, Thompson is averaging 14.9 points, 8.6 boards, 6.3 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.3 steals while shooting 54.7 percent from the floor.
Feb 25, 2025
Ejected Tuesday
Thompson has been ejected after receiving a Flagrant 2 foul with 4:27 remaining in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game against the Bucks, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson's night ended early due to unnecessary and excessive contact to the head of an opposing player. He'll finish the game with nine points (4-8 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal across 34 minutes. Jabari Smith should pick up the slack the rest of the way.
Feb 22, 2025
Double-double in Friday's win
Thompson finished Friday's 121-115 win over Minnesota with 17 points (7-9 FG, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and one steal in 40 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The second-year wing continues to put up impressive numbers on the glass. Thompson has pulled down at least nine rebounds in four straight games, and over his last 15 contests he's averaging 16.3 points, 8.9 boards, 6.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.7 blocks while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor -- a stretch that also includes all three of his triple-doubles on the season.
Feb 14, 2025
Logs 11 points in Rising Stars
Thompson tallied 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 FT), two assists and two rebounds over 2:37 of court time during Team M's 40-39 loss to Team G League in the Rising Stars semifinal.
ANALYSIS
It was a disappointing loss for Team M, but Thompson did his part in leading the team in scoring. He has been an everyday starter for the Rockets since the beginning of January due to the absence of Jabari Smith (hand), and over that span, Thompson has averaged 16.5 points on 52.7 percent shooting, 8.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks over 38.4 minutes per game. Smith has been increasing his activity as of late and is expected to return after the All-Star break, but he could serve in a bench role when he comes back while Thompson remains in Houston's starting five.
Feb 13, 2025

ANALYSIS
Thompson stuffed the stat sheet en route to his third third triple-double of the season Wednesday. Additionally, the 22-year-old also logged multiple steals and blocks for the eighth time through 51 regular-season outings. The second-year pro has started in each of his last 19 appearances, averaging 17.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.5 blocks across 38.8 minutes per contest. He has shot 53.4 percent from the field in that 19-game span.

Solid effort despite loss
Thompson produced 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-6 FT), three rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal over 37 minutes during Thursday's 127-114 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Thompson had a strong all-around showing in the loss to the Nets on Tuesday even if his scoring figures weren't very high, and he delivered another stat-filling performance in this loss. Thompson has been very good of late, and he's been a stud in fantasy due to his ability to fill the box score on a regular basis. Over his last 10 appearances, Thompson is averaging 17.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the floor.

ANALYSIS
Thompson struggled with his shot Saturday, but he managed to contribute in other ways as he led both teams in rebounding and assists. Since entering the Rockets' starting lineup permanently Jan. 5, Thompson has averaged 17.8 points on 52.7 percent shooting, 10.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.4 blocks over 38.8 minutes per game.

Continues to shine
Thompson provided 21 points (7-15 FG, 7-9 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal in 38 minutes during Thursday's 120-119 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has surpassed the 20-point mark in three of his last four games, and he seems to be growing into his game more and more with each passing start. He's made 17 starts this season, albeit due to the absence of Jabari Smith (hand), but he's embraced the opportunity. He's averaging 18.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per game in those 17 starts.

Thompson produced 33 points (13-19 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-8 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 41 minutes during Monday's 114-112 win over the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
On top of scoring a career-high 33 points Monday, Thompson put an exclamation point on his 14th double-double of the season by hitting a game-winning floater with less than a second left in the fourth quarter. Over his last 10 games in Houston's first unit, the versatile 2023 first-rounder has averaged 19.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks while shooting 57.4 percent from the field. Despite his subpar free-throw percentage and high rate of turnovers, Thompson's overall fantasy stock continues to skyrocket while he appears to be settling in as a starter for the Rockets.
Jan 25, 2025
Logs triple-double against Cavs
Thompson racked up 23 points (8-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-10 FT), 14 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks and one steal across 41 minutes during Saturday's 135-131 victory over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was the Rockets' best player on the court Saturday, leading the team with a plus-10 point differential en route to his second-career triple-double. Houston holds an 8-2 record since Thompson was permanently inserted into the starting lineup Jan. 5, which includes back-to-back wins against Cleveland. Over that span, Thompson has averaged 16.4 points on 55.3 percent shooting, 11.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.1 blocks over 38.4 minutes per game.
Jan 23, 2025
Stays hot in win
Thompson put up 16 points (7-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 16 boards, four assists and four steals in 36 minutes of action during Wednesday's 109-108 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
The sophomore forward has been lights out as a starter in the absence of Jabari Smith (hand), and Wednesday's outing was no different. He's averaging 16.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks while shooting 56.1 percent from the field in his 13 games with the first unit this season. So, as long as Smith remains sidelined, Thompson is both a reliable and high upside fantasy option. He'll get another crack at the Cavaliers on Saturday.
Jan 20, 2025
Good to go Monday
Thompson (calf) will play Monday versus Detroit, Coty M. Davis of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson officially has the green light to return after missing Saturday's game versus Portland, and there's no word of any restrictions. This means Jae'Sean Tate will likely head back to the bench for Houston. Thompson has averaged 16.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.9 steals on 59.5 percent shooting from the field over his last eight appearances.
Jan 19, 2025
Questionable for Monday
Thompson (calf) is questionable for Monday's game against the Pistons, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson missed the 125-103 win over the Trail Blazers on Saturday due to left calf tightness, and the questionable tag suggests there's a chance he might miss back-to-back games for the second time since the beginning of January. Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore and Jae'Sean Tate could be in line for bigger roles if Thompson is unable to go.
Jan 18, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Thompson (calf) will not play Saturday against the Trail Blazers, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was a late addition to the injury report and will be held out of Saturday's action. He's been on a tear, averaging 16.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.9 steals on 59.5 percent shooting from the field over his last eight appearances. With Thompson sidelined, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore and Jae'Sean Tate could be more involved Saturday.
Jan 18, 2025
Late addition to injury report
Thompson is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Trail Blazers due to left calf tightness.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is in danger of missing Saturday's contest after being a late addition to the injury report due to a calf issue. If the 21-year-old guard is unable to suit up against Portland, Cam Whitmore, Jae'Sean Tate and Tari Eason are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Jan 17, 2025
Another impressive showing
Thompson accumulated 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals in 41 minutes during Thursday's 132-127 loss to Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has been excellent since moving to a starting role due to the injury of Jabari Smith (finger), and he's been thriving regardless of the role he's asked to fill. His ability to fill the stat sheet makes him an even more valuable player across all fantasy formats, and he's an absolute diamond in category-based dynasty leagues. Thompson is averaging 15.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.7 steals per game over his last 10 outings.
Jan 13, 2025
Massive stat line in narrow win
Thompson amassed 19 points (7-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-7 FT), 13 rebounds, four assists, five blocks and two steals over 41 minutes during Monday's 120-118 victory over Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Although it was teammate Jalen Green who stole the show with a game-high 42 points, Thompson put his fingerprints all over Monday's game while tallying his 10th double-double of the campaign and matching his season high of five swats. The 21-year-old former No. 3 overall pick continues to take a considerable leap in his second season, as he's averaging 15.6 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 blocks, 1.4 steals and 0.4 three-pointers in 37.2 minutes over his last eight contests (seven starts). The versatile Thompson should continue starting for the Rockets as long as Jabari Smith (hand) remains on the shelf, bolstering the latter's fantasy upside in the interim.
Jan 7, 2025
Dominant outing in victory
Thompson notched 20 points (7-8 FG, 6-6 FT), 15 rebounds, five assists and three steals across 41 minutes during Tuesday's 135-112 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Thompson recorded his ninth double-double of the season while stuffing the stat sheet in a dominant outing. The second-year swingman also racked up three steals, and he has recorded multiple steals in eight outings thus far. With Jabari Smith (hand) sidelined, Thompson has started in each of the club's last two outings after serving a two-game suspension, during which he has amassed 43 points, 31 rebounds, eight assists and four steals in 82 total minutes.
Jan 6, 2025
Explodes for massive double-double
Thompson finished Sunday's 119-115 win over the Lakers with 23 points (11-19 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-4 FT), 16 rebounds, three assists and one steal in 41 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got the start Sunday after serving a two-game suspension and delivered an impressive showing, establishing career-high marks in both points and rebounds. The second-year forward has been outstanding since being handed an expanded role due to the recent injuries of players such as Dillon Brooks and Jabari Smith (hand). He's averaging 15.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 blocks per game over his last six outings.
Jan 5, 2025
Confirmed starter Sunday
Thompson is in the Rockets' starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Lakers, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has finished serving a two-game suspension due to an on-court altercation he had with Tyler Herro against the Heat on Sunday, Dec. 29. Thompson will be in Houston's starting five while Jabari Smith is sidelined due to a fractured left hand that he suffered during Friday's shootaround. Over his last three starts, Thompson averaged 16.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 steals over 36.0 minutes per contest.
Jan 3, 2025
Will start following suspension
Thompson is expected to be inserted into the Rockets' starting lineup after serving his two-game suspension after Jabari Smith fractured his left hand during Friday's shootaround, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Shams Charania of ESPN, Smith is expected to miss at least 4-to-8 weeks due to his injury. Thompson will finish serving his two-game suspension following Friday's game against the Celtics, so he should be in the Rockets' starting lineup against the Lakers on Sunday. Across five starts this season, Thompson has averaged 16.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.8 blocks and 1.6 steals over 35.0 minutes per game.
Dec 31, 2024
Suspended for two games
The NBA suspended Thompson on Tuesday for two games without pay for his involvement in an on-court altercation during Sunday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
After Tyler Herro leaned into Thompson on Sunday in the fourth quarter of the Heat's 104-100 win, Thompson grabbed Herro by the jersey and threw him to the floor, resulting in a multi-player altercation. Thompson, Herro, Terry Rozier and Jalen Green were all ejected from the game but only Thompson and Rozier received suspensions, with the latter forced to miss only one game. Thompson's next chance to suit up will come Sunday against the Lakers. In his absence, Cam Whitmore could see more playing time.
Dec 29, 2024
Gets ejected Sunday
Thompson was ejected late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Heat, Jackson Gatlin of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got into an altercation with Tyler Herro, with the former throwing the latter to the ground. Thompson and Herro were ejected shortly after, as well as Terry Rozier and Jalen Green. Thompson's night will end with five points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal over 32 minutes.
Dec 29, 2024
Coming off bench Sunday
Thompson is not in the Rockets' starting lineup against the Heat on Sunday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson started in the Rockets' last three games due to the absence of Dillon Brooks (ankle). Over that span, Thompson averaged 16.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 3.0 blocks and 1.0 steals over 36.0 minutes per contest.
Dec 28, 2024
Double-double in Friday's loss
Thompson logged 20 points (9-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 39 minutes during Friday's 113-112 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Making his third straight start in place of Dillon Brooks (ankle), Thompson recorded his seventh double-double of the season. He's pulled down double-digit boards in all three of his recent starts, averaging 16.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 58.3 percent from the floor. Brooks likely won't be sidelined much longer, but Thompson's outstanding production in the veteran's place should force coach J.B. Bickerstaff to at least consider keeping the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft in the starting five.
Dec 27, 2024
Another great defensive effort
Thompson recorded nine points (4-8 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists, five blocks and one steal in 31 minutes during Thursday's 128-111 win over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got his second consecutive start with Dillon Brooks (ankle) sidelined. The sophomore continues to thrive when given starting responsibilities, averaging 15.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 3.3 blocks and 1.8 steals across 234.0 minutes. Thompson's role fluctuates more than fantasy managers would like, but he's worth rostering in most formats given his upside.
Dec 24, 2024
Fills stat sheet in spot start
Thompson notched 19 points (8-16 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal across 38 minutes during Monday's 114-101 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got the start at power forward due to the absence of Dillon Brooks (ankle), and the second-year forward did an excellent job of filling out the stat sheet while leaving his mark on both ends of the court. Thompson's fantasy upside will be strictly tied to Brooks' availability, but it's undeniable that he's shown promise when given enough minutes. Across three starts this season, Thompson is averaging 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
Dec 23, 2024
Starting Monday
Thompson is in the Rockets' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will make his third start of the 2024-25 regular season Monday due to Dillon Brooks (ankle) being ruled out. In his last start Dec. 8 against the Clippers, Thompson finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 39 minutes.
Dec 15, 2024
Drops team-high 19 points
Thompson chipped in 19 points (9-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-3 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and three steals in 30 minutes during Saturday's 111-96 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Thompson scored a team-high 19 points, tallying double-digits for the fourth straight game. Despite continuing to come off the bench, Thompson has been able to be a meaningful contributor, averaging 12.1 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 combined steals and blocks in 27.1 minutes per game. Although it would likely take an injury to Fred Van Vleet for Thompson to step into a starting role, he should continue to be a pivotal piece on a team exceeding all expectations thus far.
Dec 11, 2024
Slides back to bench
Thompson will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Warriors, Lachard Binkley of TheDreamShake.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson made a spot start Sunday with Fred VanVleet sidelined, but he'll rejoin the reserves with VanVleet healthy Wednesday. Thompson is averaging 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals across 26.2 minutes per game off the bench.
Dec 9, 2024
Hits for season-high 22
Thompson recorded 22 points (9-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), eight rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 39 minutes during Sunday's 117-106 victory over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Making his first start since Nov. 11 and just his second of the season, Thompson produced his best scoring performance of the season. While his offense remains a little inconsistent, the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft has found another level with his overall play since late November, particularly on the glass. Thompson has pulled down at least six boards in eight straight games, averaging 13.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks over that stretch while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor.
Dec 8, 2024
Starting sans VanVleet
Thompson will enter the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Clippers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
With Fred VanVleet (knee) sidelined, Thompson will make his second start of the year Sunday. In his last five outings, the 21-year-old has averaged 12.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks across 30.0 minutes per game off the bench.
Dec 6, 2024
Solid from bench in defeat
Thompson accumulated 14 points (5-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds and one block across 22 minutes during Thursday's 99-93 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Thompson's solid multi-category contributions come and go like the wind, but the second-year wing is doing a decent job in a supporting role. He's one injury away from finding his way into the starting lineup, and he has the goods to fill in at several positions.
Nov 28, 2024
Fills stat sheet efficiently
Thompson posted 19 points (8-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists, three blocks and three steals in 40 minutes during Wednesday's 122-115 overtime victory over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is one of the most productive bench players in the league, and he's a must-have player in most fantasy formats but particularly category-based leagues due to his ability to fill the stat sheet. The second-year forward is averaging a robust stat line of 13.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks per game across his last 10 appearances while shooting 63.3 percent from the field in that span.
Nov 26, 2024
Strong two-way effort
Thompson supplied 15 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three blocks and four steals in 38 minutes during Tuesday's 117-111 overtime win over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got it done on both ends of the floor, scoring double-digits for the eighth time in the past nine games, adding seven combined steals and blocks. Despite a somewhat inconsistent role, Thompson has been able to provide excellent value off the bench. Over the past week, he has averaged 12.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in 28.5 minutes per game. Even if he continues to come off the bench, Thompson should continue to be a key piece for the surging Rockets.
Nov 23, 2024
Fills stat sheet Friday
Thompson posted 10 points (3-8 FG, 4-7 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and three steals over 24 minutes during Friday's 116-88 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson continues to see more than 20 minutes off the bench on a regular basis, and it seems he'll continue to find ways to produce as long as he gets enough playing time. This was his fourth double-double of the season, and fantasy managers will be happy with the two-way contributions Thompson often brings to the table, making him valuable despite his bench role. He's averaging 10.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game over his last five outings off the bench.
Nov 20, 2024
Battles foul trouble in win
Thompson provided six points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound and one block over 17 minutes during Wednesday's 130-113 victory over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson picked up three early fouls, limiting him to just 17 minutes. While this was a sub-par performance, Thompson had been playing well up to this point. He continues to come off the bench but typically sees at least 25 minutes per night. Look for him to get back on track against the Trail Blazers on Friday.
Nov 17, 2024
Getting green light Sunday
Thompson (quadriceps) is available to play in Sunday's game against the Bulls, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson seemingly injured his right quadricep against the Clippers on Friday, though he will play through the soreness and give it a go against Chicago. The 21-year-old has played a significant role coming mainly off the bench for the Rockets this year, and he has averaged 11.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 53.1 percent from the floor across 25.3 minutes per game in 13 regular-season outings.
Nov 16, 2024
Iffy against Chicago
Thompson is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Bulls due to right quadriceps soreness.
ANALYSIS
Thomson appears to have injured his quadriceps against the Clippers and could miss Sunday's contest. If Thompson is forced to sit out Sunday, Reed Sheppard, Cam Whitmore and Tari Eason are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Nov 13, 2024
Slides back to bench
Thompson won't start Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson tallied 13 points, eight rebounds and eight combined steals-plus-blocks during a spot start Monday. However, the guard will shift back to the second unit now that Fred VanVleet is healthy. Thompson is averaging 10 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 24.1 minutes over 10 appearances off the bench.
Nov 12, 2024
Productive in spot start
Thompson closed Monday's 107-92 victory over the Wizards with 13 points (4-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-8 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, four blocks and four steals over 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson started at point guard due to the absence of Fred VanVleet (foot) and was productive across the board. Even though he only finished with one assist, as Alperen Sengun took on a bigger role in the playmaking department, Sengun did enough to deliver a strong fantasy showing. Expect Thompson to remain in the starting lineup as long as VanVleet remains sidelined.
Nov 11, 2024
Will start at PG Monday
Thompson will start at point guard during Monday's game against the Wizards, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
With Fred VanVleet (foot) sidelined, Thompson will make his first start of the season. The second-year wing has averaged 10.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 24.1 minutes through 10 appearances this season, but he figures to have increased usage while running Houston's offense against Washington.
Nov 5, 2024
Nears double-double in win
Thompson totaled 12 points (5-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one steal across 33 minutes during Monday's 109-97 victory over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Thompson led the bench in scoring Monday after posting a double-double in Saturday's loss to the Warriors. The 21-year-old has received significant minutes off the bench, and he has scored in double figures in three straight appearances. Thompson is expected to remain the Rockets' top option off the bench, though he could make a case to enter the starting lineup, especially if injury concerns arise for the club.
Nov 3, 2024
Posts first double-double
Thompson supplied 18 points (8-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Saturday's 127-121 overtime loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Thompson took on his largest workload of the season Saturday night, and he made the most of his opportunity by producing across the board. He's now put up 10 or more points in back-to-back matchups and has recorded a steal in three straight. Thompson is unlikely to log 34 minutes regularly given his current role in the rotation, but he's shown promise in the early going of the 2024-25 campaign.
Oct 29, 2024
Limited again in victory
Thompson produced seven points (2-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one block and one steal across 19 minutes during Monday's 106-101 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Thompson continues to play limited minutes off the bench, a frustrating situation for anyone who invested a draft pick on him. Although he is typically the first player off the bench, he has yet to play a sizeable role. The upside is clear for everyone to see but at this stage, the Rockets simply have too many cooks in the kitchen. He is worth holding where possible as it feels as though he is only one injury away from stepping into a meaningful role.
Oct 15, 2024
Retreats to bench vs. New Orleans
Thompson is not in the starting five for Tuesday's preseason matchup versus the Pelicans, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson started in the Rockets' first two preseason games, one at small forward and one at point guard. However, Fred VanVleet is back after receiving a scheduled day off last Wednesday against the Thunder, and Thompson will likely be in the first unit off the bench.
Oct 9, 2024
Starting at point guard
Thompson will start at point guard during Wednesday's preseason game against the Thunder, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
With Dillon Brooks resting, Thompson started at small forward during Monday's preseason opener. However, with Brooks back and Fred VanVleet now getting the night off, the second-year pro will shift to point guard, showcasing the versatility that makes him an intriguing fantasy option if he can reach his potential.
Oct 8, 2024
Efficient in loss Monday
Thompson notched 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, an assist and two steals across 22 minutes in Monday's 122-113 preseason loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got the start at small forward over Dillon Brooks (rest) in the preseason opener, and while he's ticketed for a bench role to start the 2024-25 campaign, he possesses decent upside as a do-it-all type of forward who can fill the stat sheet even when coming off the bench. Thompson averaged 9.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks per game across 62 regular-season appearances as a rookie in 2023-24.
Oct 7, 2024
Starting vs. Utah
Thompson will be in the Rockets' starting lineup for Monday's preseason game against the Jazz, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will get the start over Dillon Brooks (rest) for Monday's preseason opener. The 2023 first-round pick was inserted into the starting lineup late in his rookie season, and across his last 17 starts he averaged 13.9 points on 58.6 percent shooting, 9.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.4 steals across 29.6 minutes per game.
Apr 14, 2024
Triple-doubles in season finale
Thompson recorded 18 points (8-9 FG, 2-3 FT), 11 rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks and three steals in 40 minutes during Sunday's 116-105 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson finished the regular season with a bang, posting his first career triple-double. The Rockets were missing a couple key players Sunday, so Thompson was able to show what he could do with increased usage. His rookie season was full of promise, and Thompson finished the campaign with averages of 9.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 53.7 percent shooting from the field.
Apr 13, 2024
Logs 12th double-double of season
Thompson chipped in 17 points (6-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 15 rebounds and six assists in 35 minutes during Friday's 116-107 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has followed a similar arc to Jabari Smith last season, where a promising rookie began to see increased numbers as the season ended. The 2023 first-round pick is arguably one of the most versatile options on the roster. His 6-7 frame provides defensive aggressiveness in the paint, and he complements that skill set with solid numbers on the other side of the ball. Depending on Houston's off-season moves, Thompson could be poised for a breakout sophomore campaign.
Apr 12, 2024
Posts double-double
Thompson closed with 15 points (6-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals over 35 minutes during Thursday's 124-121 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Thompson recorded his first double-double since March 29, and 11th of the campaign, an impressive tally for a rookie who's not a frontcourt player. Thompson still needs to grow into his game, but the potential is clearly there, and there's a strong chance he ends up being an absolute stud in fantasy due to his ability to fill the stat sheet on any given night.
Apr 7, 2024
Shoves Kleber, gets tossed
Thompson was ejected for picking up a Flagrant 2 foul in the first quarter of Sunday's game against Dallas, Michael Shapiro of SI.com reports. Thompson finished with five points (1-1 FG, 3-3 FT), three rebounds and three assists in eight minutes of action.
ANALYSIS
Thompson got into a scuffle with Maxi Kleber under the basket with four minutes remaining in the first quarter of Sunday's game, and Thompson was ejected upon review of the play. Initially jockeying for position while away from the ball, Thompson then squared up and brought his forearm to Kleber's neck region -- a thoroughly enforced aspect of officiating where unnecessary contact leads to ejections.
Apr 7, 2024
Gets green light
Thompson (ankle/finger) is available and will start Sunday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Thompson has been upgraded from probable to available and will return to the starting lineup after a one-game absence. Jeff Green will return to the bench. Over his last 14 appearances (12 starts), Thompson has averaged 14.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks in 28.1 minutes per game.
Apr 6, 2024
Probable for Sunday
Thompson (ankle/finger) is probable for Sunday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is expected back in the lineup after sitting out Friday's game against the Heat. Thompson has produced averages of 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.2 steals over his last 10 games.
Apr 5, 2024
Won't play Friday
Thompson (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Thompson rolled his left ankle in the final minutes of Thursday's loss to Golden State and will be sidelined for the second half of Houston's back-to-back set. The rookie has thrived since Alperen Sengun (ankle/knee) went down in early March, averaging 14.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.6 blocks in 28.1 minutes over his last 14 appearances (12 starts). Cam Whitmore, Aaron Holiday, Jeff Green, and Reggie Bullock are candidates for increased playing time in Thompson's absence.
Apr 4, 2024
Rolls left ankle Thursday
Thompson appeared to roll his left ankle during Thursday's 133-110 loss to Golden State and left the game for good with 4:44 remaining in the fourth quarter, Jackson Gatlin of the Locked On Podcast Network reports. He finished with eight points (3-7 FG, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson had a slight limp on his way to the locker room, but he was able to do it under his own power. Houston's playoff chances are very thin following this loss, so the Rockets could be extra cautious if Thompson isn't 100 percent. For now, the rookie can be considered questionable for Friday's game against the Heat.

Second straight double-double
Thompson finished with 18 points (6-12 FG, 6-8 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals across 40 minutes during Friday's 101-100 win over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is making the most of the opportunity to start and posted his second consecutive double-double. The rookie has started in each of Houston's last nine contests, averaging 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks per game in that stretch. Fantasy managers will certainly hope for Thompson to continue racking up stats left and right as the end of the regular season approaches.
Mar 28, 2024
Records monster double-double
Thompson had 25 points (10-18 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 15 rebounds, four assists and one steal in 39 minutes during Wednesday's 132-126 overtime win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Thompson moved to the starting lineup on March 12 and has looked productive, showing the ability to make an impact on both ends of the court. He has three double-doubles in his last eight starts, and he should remain a reliable two-way presence for an on-the-rise Rockets team. Thompson is averaging 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game during Houston's ongoing 10-game winning streak.
Mar 15, 2024
Conjures double-double against Wiz
Thompson produced 20 points (9-11 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals across 28 minutes during Thursday's 135-119 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
It was the rookie forward's seventh double-double of the season, five of which have come since the beginning of February. Thompson has spotted in and out of the starting lineup during that time, but with Alperen Sengun (ankle) likely done for the rest of the regular season, Houston will be leaning a little more heavily on him down the stretch. The fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft, Thompson is averaging 12.6 points, 10.9 boards, 3.9 assists and 1.8 steals as a starter.
Mar 12, 2024
Joins starting five
Thompson will join the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Spurs, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
With Alperen Sengun (ankle) sidelined indefinitely, the Rockets are sliding Jabari Smith over to center which opens things up for Thompson in smaller lineups. Thompson has struggled with consistency and efficiency, but his ability to contribute in multiple categories makes him very appealing for the final stretch.
Mar 9, 2024
Displays two-way play to lead bench
Thompson registered 16 points (7-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, five blocks and two steals in 26 minutes during Friday's 123-107 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson did a little bit of everything for Houston off the bench, displaying his two-way play while leading all bench players in scoring and rebounds and adding a team-high handful of blocks to go along with a team-high-tying pair of steals. Thompson set a new season high in blocks while posting his fourth game with at least 15 points and eight boards.
Feb 24, 2024
Double-doubles off bench
Thompson had 15 points (6-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal across 33 minutes during Friday's 114-110 victory over Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
Thompson played off the bench for the second consecutive game now that Fred VanVleet is back in the starting lineup, and even though he's expected to stay in a second-unit role if Houston's usual starters remain healthy, that doesn't mean Thompson can't be a player worth targeting in most formats, especially if he continues to post the numbers he's been delivering of late. The rookie has four double-doubles over his last seven appearances while averaging 13.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 blocks per game since the beginning of February.
Feb 23, 2024
Scores 22 points off bench
Thompson chipped in 22 points (9-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), five rebounds, four assists and three blocks across 28 minutes during Thursday's 127-105 loss to the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Thompson moved to the bench after starting in each of Houston's last five games before the All-Star break, but the move to the second unit didn't translate into a decline in production. Thompson has scored in double digits in five of his seven February appearances, a span in which he's averaging 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
Feb 21, 2024
Moving back to bench
Rockets head coach Ime Udoka implied that Thompson will head to the bench for Thursday's game against the Pelicans, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
With Fred VanVleet (adductor) getting a clean bill of health after missing the Rockets' last five games before the All-Star break, he'll take back his familiar spot in the starting five at point guard, resulting in Thompson being the odd man out. The rookie lottery pick showed well in his five-game run with the top unit, averaging 12.0 points, 11.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.8 blocks in 34.2 minutes while shooting 59.2 percent from the field. Thompson will see a steep reduction in playing time now that he's no longer starting, though his solid play as a replacement for VanVleet could at least earn him more minutes on the wing than he had been seeing prior to VanVleet's absence.
Feb 15, 2024
Double-double in Memphis
Thompson ended with 19 points (9-17 FG, 1-3 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals over 34 minutes before fouling out of Wednesday's 121-113 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
The rookie made his fifth straight start and produced his fifth double-double of the season, with three of them coming during that stretch. Thompson is flashing the upside expected of him when the Rockets made him the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft, and over the last eight contests he's averaging 12.1 points, 9.8 boards, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor.
Feb 13, 2024
Quintessential performance
Thompson ended Monday's 105-103 win over the Knicks with eight points (4-5 FG, 0-2 FT), 13 rebounds, five assists and five steals over 38 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson's three-point stroke is still non-existent, but his vision, athleticism, and elite defensive anticipation overshadow his unrefined shooting. The rookie has rare ability to impact the game without scoring, and his athleticism creates an excellent foundation for his offensive game to continue growing.
Feb 7, 2024
Shines as starting point guard
Thompson notched 13 points (6-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-4 FT), 13 rebounds, six assists and three blocks across 34 minutes during Tuesday's 132-129 loss to Indiana.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has made just two starts this season and has posted double-doubles in both contests, showing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the court regardless of his role. It remains to be seen if Fred VanVleet (thigh) will recover in time to face the Raptors on Friday, but if he doesn't, then Thompson would be in line for another start -- and possibly another stat-filling performance.
Feb 6, 2024
Gets starting nod
Thompson will enter the starting lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Pacers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will replace Fred VanVleet (thigh) in the starting lineup Tuesday. The rookie guard recorded 15 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and one steal in 32 minutes during his only other starting appearance this season.
Feb 3, 2024
Career-best performance in win
Thompson contributed 19 points (9-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals in 24 minutes during Friday's 135-106 victory over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
The fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft produced the best scoring effort of his young career, just two games after posting a goose egg in 12 minutes against the Lakers. Thompson's production remains somewhat erratic but he has scored in double digits in six of the last 11 games, averaging 9.3 points, 6.3 boards, 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals over 19.0 minutes a contest during that stretch. His future remains bright, but Thompson's immediate fantasy value is still sketchy.
Jan 30, 2024
Minutes reduced in win
Thompson recorded zero points (0-1 FG), seven rebounds, three rebounds and one steal over 12 minutes in Monday's 135-119 win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson put up some decent numbers during his time on the floor, but he also committed five turnovers and came up empty in the scoring column. The 12 minutes in a game that devolved into a blowout is probably the most discouraging sign about Thompson's line, as the rookie lottery pick looks as though he'll be relegated to a minor role in the rotation now that Houston is at close to full strength. Thompson and fellow rookie Cam Whitmore (18 minutes) could be marginalized further once Tari Eason (lower leg) eventually makes his return.
Jan 24, 2024
Slides back to bench
Thompson won't start Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Thompson will rejoin the reserves with Fred VanVleet back in action following a one-game absence. Even with VanVleet healthy, expect Thompson to handle a significant workload off the bench considering the Rockets are down Jabari Smith (ankle), Tari Eason (lower leg) and Jae'Sean Tate (wrist)
Jan 21, 2024
Double-double with 14 boards
Thompson recorded 15 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists and one steal in 32 minutes during Sunday's 116-107 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was active on the glass in what was the first start of his NBA career, and even though the Rockets came up short against the Celtics, Thompson showed strong qualities and above-average two-way instincts. His role in the short term will be tied to Fred VanVleet's availability, as the veteran guard was sidelined Sunday due to back soreness, meaning Thompson could remain in the starting lineup to face the Trail Blazers on Wednesday if VanVleet can't recover in time.
Jan 21, 2024
Set to start Sunday
Thompson is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against Boston, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson starts with Fred VanVleet sidelined due to back soreness. The rookie's defensive presence and playmaking will be tested against a formidable Boston lineup, getting the first start of his NBA career alongside Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Cam Whitmore and Alperen Sengun.
Jan 14, 2024
Double-doubles off bench
Thompson notched 10 points (3-10 FG, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals over 25 minutes during Saturday's 145-113 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Thompson didn't have his best shooting performance, but he brought energy off the bench and showed glimpses of what he can do with extended minutes, crashing the glass with energy and contributing in peripheral categories. Even though he's a rookie with tons of potential, his fantasy upside in leagues outside of dynasty formats is minimal since he doesn't have a clear role in Ime Udoka's rotation at the moment.
Jan 9, 2024
Only 11 minutes in loss
Thompson closed Monday's 120-113 loss to the Heat with five points (1-2 FG, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal across 11 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has played double-digit minutes in nine of his last 10 appearances, averaging 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 16.5 minutes per game. An ankle sprain derailed the start of his rookie season, but he's back to full strength now and looking to make a consistent impact for a Houston squad that's exceeded expectations so far, sitting in eighth place in the Western Conference with an 18-17 record.
Dec 21, 2023
Just eight minutes in return
Thompson supplied two points (1-2 FG) and two rebounds across eight minutes during Wednesday's 134-127 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Thompson returned to action after missing the past four games due to an illness. It's been a rough start for the rookie, having health with an ankle injury before the illness, keeping him sidelined for the majority of the campaign. His upside is clear but as for the remainder of this season, it's hard to see him having any sustainable fantasy value.
Dec 20, 2023
Cleared to play
Thompson (illness) is available for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson returned to action Dec. 11 following a 15-game absence due to an ankle sprain, totaling two points, five rebounds and an assist in 10 minutes during a win over San Antonio. However, the rookie proceeded to miss four straight games due to an illness following that matchup. Thompson figures to garner a minor bench role Wednesday, which will be just his sixth appearance this season.
Dec 19, 2023
Iffy against Atlanta
Thompson (illness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Thompson is in danger of missing his fifth straight game due to a non-COVID illness. With Jae'Sean Tate (illness) also questionable, Tari Eason and Aaron Holiday could be in store for extended minutes.
Dec 18, 2023
Out again Monday
Thompson (illness) will not play in Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
This will be the fourth straight game on the sidelines for the rookie. Thompon's next chance to play will be Wednesday against the Hawks. Tari Eason is carrying a probable tag due to a leg issue, but he'll likely continue to see increased run for the Rockets with Thompson out.
Dec 17, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Thompson (illness) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Milwaukee, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson continues to deal with an illness and will remain sidelined for a third consecutive game. However, Jae'Sean Tate (illness) is available and could see increased run, while Tari Eason could also be in line for an uptick in playing time.
Dec 16, 2023
Listed as questionable
Thompson (illness) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has missed the past two games for Houston due to an illness, and his status remains in the air. In addition to Thompson, Jae'Sean Tate is also questionable with an illness. Tari Eason has been terrific for the Rockets in recent games and will likely see increased minutes if Thompson is forced to sit again.
Dec 15, 2023
Ruled out
Thompson (illness) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Grizzlies, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson returned from a 15-game absence due to an ankle injury Monday but will now miss a second consecutive contest due to an illness. Given his inability to stay available, the rookie has struggled to carve out a role with the new-look Rockets, who are off to a solid start this season and currently occupy the eighth seed with a 12-9 record.
Dec 14, 2023
Questionable to play Friday
Thompson (illness) is questionable to play Friday against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Thompson's rookie season has been marred by injuries, and he has made just two appearances off the bench since the beginning of November. Even if he's available Friday, Thompson shouldn't see significant minutes off the bench. He's averaging 5.4 points and 3.2 rebounds across 15.4 minutes this season.
Dec 13, 2023
Ruled out
Thompson (illness) won't play Wednesday against the Grizzlies, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson returned from a 15-game absence due to an ankle injury Monday but is now under the weather and will miss another contest. The rookie's next chance to suit up will come Friday in Memphis.
Dec 12, 2023
Iffy against Memphis
Thompson is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Grizzlies due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Thompson made his return to action Monday after a 15-game absence due to an ankle injury. While the rookie guard has recovered from that injury, an illness could keep him out of Wednesday's contest. If Thompson is ruled out, Aaron Holiday and Jae'Sean Tate could receive extended minutes.
Dec 10, 2023
Off injury report
Thompson is no longer listed on the injury report ahead of Monday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Thompson hasn't played for the Rockets since Nov. 1 due to an ankle injury but he was recalled from the team's G-League affiliate on Saturday and seems to be slated to make his return to NBA action. The rookie lottery pick will serve as a reserve wing for the near future but he could be in line for a decent workload if Dillon Brooks (illness) and Tari Eason (lower leg) are unable to go.
Dec 9, 2023
Recalled to NBA
The Rockets recalled Thompson (ankle) for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G League on Saturday, Adam Wexler of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson lasted saw NBA action on Nov. 1 before suffering a right ankle sprain. However, the rookie guard played for the Vipers on Wednesday and appears set to make his return to the Rockets. Thompson's next chance to suit up will be Monday's matchup with San Antonio.
Dec 7, 2023
Remains out Friday
Thompson (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Thompson hasn't played for the Rockets since the beginning of November due to a Grade 2 right ankle sprain and hasn't been cleared to return to action for the parent club Friday. However, he remains on assignment with the G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and he tallied 29 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and two blocks in 40 minutes while operating as a starter during an overtime loss Wednesday. Even though he'll likely need a few more days before rejoining Houston, the rookie looks ready to return imminently.
Dec 5, 2023
Assigned to G League
The Rockets assigned Thompson (ankle) to the G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday, Adam Wexler of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury on Nov. 1, and this stop in the G League is one of his final hurdles to clear. The Vipers play against the Blue on Wednesday, so it will be interesting to see if Thompson gets some action.
Nov 27, 2023
Takes part in non-contact work
Thompson (ankle) was able to take part in non-contact drills during practice Sunday but has yet to be cleared for contact or scrimmage work, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson's involvement in non-contact work represents a step forward after he had previously been limited to individual drills, but the rookie looks as though he still has a few more hurdles to clear in his recovery from a right ankle sprain, which he suffered Nov. 1. According to Feigen, head coach Ime Udoka said that Thompson will likely first play with the G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers before rejoining the Rockets. The Vipers play their next games Thursday and Friday, so if Thompson is able to gain clearance for contact in the next couple of days, he could be available to play in either of those contests.
Nov 22, 2023
Could return soon
Coach Ime Udoka said Wednesday that Thompson (ankle) is ramping up and could be cleared to practice "soon," Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has been sidelined since Nov. 1 with a Grade 2 right ankle sprain. He'll likely remain out for at least a few more games, as Udoka stated Thompson would, at the earliest, return to practice sometime next week, but it appears the rookie will be back in action before long, barring a setback. However, Thompson wasn't off to a fantasy-friendly start, averaging just 6.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 16.8 minutes across his first four NBA appearances.
Nov 21, 2023
Not yet ready for practice
Thompson (ankle) hasn't been cleared to resume practicing as of Tuesday and remains out indefinitely, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson has been sidelined Nov. 1 with a Grade 2 right ankle sprain. He suffered an injury of the same grade to his left ankle during the Las Vegas Summer League that entailed a 2-to-4-week recovery, but Thompson looks as though he'll require a longer period of time to overcome his latest ankle sprain. At this stage, Thompson's absence looks as though it'll stretch into December, and a target date for his return to game action won't become clear until after he gets in at least a couple of practices under his belt.
Nov 20, 2023
Still out
Thompson (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's matchup against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will miss an eighth straight game due to a right ankle sprain. It's unclear when he'll be able to suit up again, but his next chance to do so will arrive Wednesday versus Memphis. In his absence, Jeff Green, Jae'Sean Tate and Aaron Holiday are candidates for increased roles.
Nov 18, 2023
Not ready to play Sunday
Thompson (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will miss his seventh straight game Sunday due to a right ankle sprain, and as has been the case of late, Aaron Holiday and Jae'Sean Tate should continue to receive extended minutes in the rookie forward's absence. Thompson's next chance to play will come in Monday's second half of a back-to-back set against the Warriors.
Nov 16, 2023
Remains out Friday
Thompson (ankle) won't play in Friday's game versus the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will miss his sixth straight game Friday due to a right ankle sprain. Aaron Holiday and Jae'Sean Tate should continue to receive extended minutes in the rookie forward's absence. Thompson's next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with the Lakers.
Nov 7, 2023
Sheds boot
Thompson (ankle) was spotted Tuesday without a boot on his injured right ankle, Coty M. Davis of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The extent of Thompson's rehab progress remains unclear, but this can be viewed as a positive step. The rookie suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain last week and was given a 2-to-4-week return timeline. The team should provide further updates soon, but fantasy managers can likely leave Thompson on the bench for Week 3.
Nov 1, 2023
Sustained Grade 2 sprain
Thompson suffered a Grade 2 ankle sprain during Wednesday's game against the Hornets, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson endured a Grade 2 ankle sprain on his other ankle in Summer League that resulted in a 2-to-4-week recovery period. While it's unclear if Thompson will be under a similar timeline for Wednesday's injury, it's likely he's headed toward a multi-game absence. If that's the case, expect Aaron Holiday to take over backup point guard duties until Thompson returns. Keep an eye out in the coming days for a status update.
Nov 1, 2023
Won't return Wednesday
Thompson is out for the remainder of Wednesday's game versus the Hornets due to a right ankle sprain, Adam Wexler of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson tallied four points, one rebound, one assist and one steal in 13 minutes before exiting Wednesday's contest. His next chance to suit up will be Saturday's matchup with Sacramento.
Oct 21, 2023
Provides spark off bench
Thompson recorded 19 points (6-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-9 FT), seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 24 minutes during Friday's preseason 110-104 win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Thompson led the Rockets' bench players in minutes and points Friday. The rookie guard is expected to start the season coming off the bench but has already shown his defensive potential.
Oct 20, 2023
Comes off bench
Thompson will come off the bench for Friday's preseason game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
The Rockets went with their projected Opening Night lineup for Friday's final exhibition. Thompson showed a lot of promise in the preseason, but it wasn't all pretty as he continues to learn the ropes.
Oct 18, 2023
Will start Wednesday
Thompson will start Wednesday's preseason contest against the Spurs, Jackson Gatlin of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Fred VanVleet (rest), Dillon Brooks (rest) and Jalen Green (toe) out, Tompson and Cam Whitmore will start in Houston's backcourt. The rookies have impressed thus far and will certainly get an extended look versus San Antonio, but they'll likely return to bench roles for Friday's regular-season finale versus Miami, which is expected to be a dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Oct 17, 2023
Strong outing off bench
Thompson tallied 15 points (6-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), an assist, two steals and a block across 21 minutes off the bench in Monday's 99-89 preseason win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was solid on both ends of the court and finished the game as one of Houston's highest-scoring players despite coming off the bench. The rookie profiles to start the season as a bench option, but he could grab a starting role as the 2023-24 campaign progresses.
Oct 13, 2023
Puts up 12 points off bench
Thompson delivered 12 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds and four assists across 21 minutes off the bench in Thursday's 120-87 preseason win over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Thompson thrived as a playmaker but wasn't shy on offense, either, and he certainly made the most of the 21 minutes he spent on the court. He's expected to be part of a young core that also includes names such as Jalen Green, Jabari Smith and Alperen Sengun, but he's likely to open the season as the primary backup guard rather than being trusted with a starting role right away.
Oct 11, 2023
Inefficient against Indiana
Thompson generated seven points (1-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one steal in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 122-103 preseason win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Although Thompson led the Rockets in rebounds off the bench during Tuesday's preseason opener, he was inefficient from the floor. He salvaged his scoring output with a decent showing from the charity stripe, but his performance suggested what he may display during the regular season. The 20-year-old has a poor shot form but is effective as a ballhandler, so he certainly carries risk as a fantasy option heading into his rookie season.
Oct 2, 2023
Cleared from ankle injury
Thompson has been fully cleared from the ankle injury he picked up in July, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
No surprise here, as Thompson was given a 2-3 week timetable on July 8. Thompson only appeared in one Summer League but that was all he needed to generate some buzz. He said he has improved his jumpshot and all signs point to him playing a big role in his rookie season.
Jul 8, 2023
Out for 2-3 weeks
An MRI revealed a Grade 2 ankle sprain in Thompson's left ankle an will be out 2-3 weeks, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Thompson injured his ankle against Portland on Friday and will almost certainly miss the remainder of the Summer League. The 2023 No. 4 pick should be ready to go for the 2023-24 regular season unless he suffers a setback.
Jul 7, 2023
Suffers ankle injury
Thompson suffered a left ankle injury during Friday's Summer League game against Portland and did not return.
ANALYSIS
Thompson landed awkwardly and immediately grabbed at his left ankle. He had a heavy limp on his way back to the locker room, putting his status for Houston's next game on July 9 in jeopardy. The good news is that he was very impressive in his 28 minutes of action, scoring 16 points with five assists, four rebounds, three steals, four blocks and one three-pointer.
