Thompson is flashing the upside expected of him when the Rockets made him the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft, and over the last eight contests he's averaging 12.1 points, 9.8 boards, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor.

Thompson ended Monday's 105-103 win over the Knicks with eight points (4-5 FG, 0-2 FT), 13 rebounds, five assists and five steals over 38 minutes.

Thompson's three-point stroke is still non-existent, but his vision, athleticism, and elite defensive anticipation overshadow his unrefined shooting. The rookie has rare ability to impact the game without scoring, and his athleticism creates an excellent foundation for his offensive game to continue growing.

Thompson has made just two starts this season and has posted double-doubles in both contests, showing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the court regardless of his role. It remains to be seen if Fred VanVleet (thigh) will recover in time to face the Raptors on Friday, but if he doesn't, then Thompson would be in line for another start -- and possibly another stat-filling performance.
