Bobby Portis Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Celtics vs Bucks game on Thursday with our National Basketball Association injury report.Dec 6, 2025
Ties season scoring high Friday
Portis racked up 22 points (9-16 FG, 4-9 3Pt), four rebounds and one steal in 23 minutes off the bench during Friday's 116-101 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
The 22 points led the Bucks on the night, and Portis also tied his season scoring high with the performance, matching the 22 points he dropped on the Trail Blazers on Nov. 24. The veteran forward has drained multiple three-pointers in four straight games, averaging 15.0 points, 5.8 boards, 2.8 threes and 1.5 assists in 22.8 minutes a contest from the second unit during that stretch.
Dec 3, 2025
Suiting up
Portis (eye) is available to play Wednesday versus Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Portis was a late addition to the injury report Wednesday, but he's been given the green light. He's averaged 11.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 21.3 minutes per contest through 22 games this season.
Dec 3, 2025
Downgraded to questionable
Portis is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pistons due to a left eye abrasion.
ANALYSIS
Portis is a late addition to the injury report Wednesday. The Bucks are likely to have him go through pregame warmups before updating his status. If Portis ends up sitting out, Kyle Kuzma should see more playing time at power forward and Jericho Sims at center.
Dec 2, 2025
Limited to 17 minutes
Portis provided 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt), four rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes during Monday's 129-126 loss to the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis' fantasy appeal continues to leave a lot to be desired. Both Jericho Sims and Kyle Kuzma saw slightly more minutes than Portis in this one, and Giannis Antetokounmpo looked healthy in his second straight appearance. At least for the short term, Portis' fantasy appeal is limited to deeper formats.
Nov 25, 2025
Shines off bench in loss
Portis registered 22 points (9-15 FG, 4-5 3Pt), six rebounds, two assists and two steals over 27 minutes during Monday's 115-103 loss to Portland.
ANALYSIS
Coach Doc Rivers opted to start Jericho Sims in the frontcourt next to Myles Turner, with Sims playing just 11 minutes. Portis took over in the second quarter to the tune of 14 points in eight minutes, but it wasn't enough as the team struggled to generate offense as a group. Portis should continue having an elevated role for as long as Giannis Antetokounmpo (groin) remains sidelined. With the superstar out the past three games, Portis has averaged 19.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals in 26.7 minutes.
Nov 24, 2025
Headed to bench
Portis will come off the bench Monday against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Portis started the past two games, but head coach Doc Rivers will be giving Jericho Sims the start Monday night in what is likely a matchup-based decision. Portis should still be able to flirt with minutes in the mid-20s in the reserve role, so he can still be viewed as a viable target in daily fantasy leagues.
Nov 22, 2025
Scores 18 in loss to Pistons
Portis amassed 18 points (7-10 FG, 4-5 3Pt), seven rebounds and two assists across 25 minutes during Saturday's 129-116 loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis has scored at least 18 points in his last two starts, and he should remain a valuable fantasy option as long as he remains in a starting role. He can help fantasy managers in categories such as points, rebounds and field-goal percentage. Portis can also produce off the bench, and he has double-digit points in seven of his last eight games overall.
Nov 21, 2025
Comes close to double-double
Portis recorded 19 points (9-14 FG, 1-1 3Pt), eight rebounds and one steal in 28 minutes during Thursday's 123-114 overtime loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Portis got the nod at power forward since he made the most of his first start of the season, and the veteran has now scored in double digits in all but one of his previous seven appearances. Over that stretch, the veteran forward is averaging 12.6 points, 5.6 boards and 0.7 steals per game. Portis will retain fantasy value as long as he can make things happen as a scorer and rebounder.
Nov 20, 2025
Starting Thursday
Portis is in the Bucks' starting lineup against the 76ers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo set to miss at least one week due to a low-grade left groin strain, Portis will enter the Bucks' starting five Thursday for the first time this season. Portis started in seven regular-season games for the Bucks during the 2024-25 campaign and averaged 22.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals over 34.5 minutes per game.
Nov 13, 2025
Another night in double figures
Portis contributed 14 points (7-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt), eight rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 111-100 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis scored in double digits for a fourth straight matchup and continues to put together efficient shooting performances. He's drilled 65.5 percent of his field goals over his last four games, averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists over this stretch.
Nov 11, 2025
Puts up 13 in win
Portis had 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and seven rebounds over 27 minutes during Monday's 116-114 win over the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Portis drained a season-high three three-pointers to help propel the Bucks to victory, and has been one of the most important pieces for Milwaukee off the bench. On the season, Portis is averaging 9.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.1 blocks and 1.4 threes made.
Nov 4, 2025
Struggles off bench vs. Toronto
Portis logged two points (1-8 FG, 0-5 3Pt), nine rebounds and two assists over 20 minutes during Milwaukee's 128-100 loss to Toronto on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Portis entered Tuesday's game having connected on 53.8 percent of his field-goal attempts over his last three outings, but the veteran forward struggled during the loss as he matched a season-low scoring output. The 11th-year pro is averaging 8.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 19.4 minutes per game this season while shooting just 39.7 percent from the field (including 34.5 percent from three on 3.6 3PA/G).
Nov 2, 2025
Strong scoring effort in loss
Portis totaled 16 points (6-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes during Saturday's 135-133 loss to Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Portis drilled multiple three-pointers for the second consecutive game, turning in his highest scoring performance of the young season Saturday. The veteran continues to produce in his familiar bench role for Milwaukee, averaging 10.0 points and 5.8 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game through six contests.
Oct 29, 2025
Limited workload in win
Portis registered nine points (4-10 FG, 1-4 3Pt), two rebounds, one block and one steal across 16 minutes during Tuesday's 121-111 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Portis hasn't been too involved to open the 2025-26 regular season with 19.4 minutes per contest through four games. That could keep his fantasy appeal limited to deeper formats, at least while the Bucks are mostly healthy up front. In that span, Portis has averaged 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.0 three-pointers on 35.9 percent shooting from the field.
Oct 25, 2025
Nears double-double in win
Portis dropped 11 points (5-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt) and eight rebounds over 21 minutes in Friday's 122-116 victory over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Portis has not shot the ball well, averaging 31.6 percent from the field and 20 percent from three to begin the season. However, the volume is certainly there and he has been able to provide value in rebounds, meaning once Portis is able to get back on track regarding his efficiency, he may be a streaming option to monitor moving forward.
Oct 22, 2025
Bench role Wednesday
Portis will come off the bench during Wednesday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis will begin the 2025-26 campaign in the second unit. Myles Turner will get the nod as the starting center, alongside Kevin Porter, Gary Trent, AJ Green and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Oct 14, 2025
Gets starting nod Tuesday
Portis will start in Tuesday's preseason game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
The veteran big man will get the starting nod at center in Milwaukee's preseason finale. Portis primarily operated off the bench last season and is expected to provide a spark from the second unit again during the 2025-26 campaign.
Oct 12, 2025
Retreats to bench
Portis will come off the bench during Sunday's preseason game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis will shift to the bench due to Giannis Antetokounmpo (illness) entering the starting lineup. Portis should see ample run off the bench Sunday.
Oct 9, 2025
Will start vs. Detroit
Portis will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis will be in the first five to make his preseason debut. He'll be joined by Kevin Porter, AJ Green, Gary Trent and Myles Turner in the starting lineup.
Jun 29, 2025
Expected to sign with Milwaukee
Portis intends to sign a three-year, $44 million deal with the Bucks, Shams Charania of ESPN reports Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Portis will remain with Milwaukee on a longer-term deal after declining his player option for 2025-26. The veteran big man has become a fan favorite in Milwaukee and averaged 13.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 49 regular-season outings (seven starts) in 2024-25. Portis' new contract includes a player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
Apr 12, 2025
Sitting out regular-season finale
Portis won't play in Sunday's game versus the Pistons due to rest purposes.
ANALYSIS
Portis will sit out Milwaukee's regular-season finale due to the team already being locked into the second seed in the Eastern Conference. However, Portis should be able to return for the Bucks' playoff opener.
Apr 12, 2025
Double-doubles off bench
Portis totaled 17 points (7-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 33 minutes during Friday's 125-119 victory over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Portis has logged three appearances since returning from a 25-game suspension due to a violation of the league's anti-drug policy, and he's scored in double digits in each of the three contests. The veteran should play a sizable role off the bench for the Bucks in the postseason, and his three appearances since his return to the hardwood show his role hasn't changed despite missing 25 games between mid-February and early April. Portis is averaging 16.3 points and 9.3 boards per game in those three contests.
Apr 9, 2025
Pops for 18 in return
Portis produced 18 points (7-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals across 29 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 110-103 victory over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Making his return from a 25-game suspension, Portis played a key role as the Bucks came back from a 20-point deficit to begin the fourth quarter. The double-double was his 10th of the season, and Portis should see a significant workload over the team's final handful of regular-season games to get him back up to speed ahead of the playoffs.
Apr 7, 2025
Off injury report for Tuesday
Portis (suspension) isn't listed on the injury report for Tuesday's game against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Portis is slated to return from a 25-game suspension Tuesday due to violating the league's anti-drug policy. The veteran big man appeared in 46 regular-season games before being suspended, averaging 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 25.2 minutes per contest in that span.
Feb 20, 2025
Suspended for 25 games
The NBA has suspended Portis for 25 games for violating the league's anti-drug policy, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Milwaukee has been dealt a significant blow to its frontcourt, with Portis set to be on the shelf for the next 25 games due to a suspension handed down by the league Thursday. The veteran big man is having a strong season with the Bucks, averaging 13.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, shooting 46.3 percent from the floor and 36.4 from deep. The team will have to pivot in Portis' absence, with Kyle Kuzma, Pat Connaughton and Tyler Smith potentially seeing more time on the floor moving forward.
Feb 11, 2025
Cools off against Golden State
Portis ended with seven points (3-11 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal across 26 minutes before fouling out of Monday's 125-111 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Portis was on a heater coming into Monday's game, but he finally cooled off against the Warriors. His fantasy appeal will remain very high going forward, as the Bucks could be without Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) for a while. Over his last four games, Portis has averaged 18.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.0 blocks, 0.8 steals and 2.0 three-pointers.
Feb 9, 2025
Won't start Sunday
Portis won't start Sunday's game against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
After missing six games due to personal reasons, Portis drew back-to-back starts in Giannis Antetokoumnpo's (calf) absence, totaling 49 points, 32 rebounds, 11 assists, four blocks and two steals. However, even with Antetokoumnpo still sidelined, Portis will shift to the bench to make room for newcomer Kyle Kuzma. As a reserve this season (36 games), Portis has averaged 12.3 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 23.3 minutes per game.
Feb 7, 2025
Game-high 26 points Friday
Portis logged 26 points (10-20 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal over 38 minutes during Friday's 115-110 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Portis started for a second straight game Friday due to the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee). Portis had another strong outing as a starter, leading both teams in points and rebounds while recording the second-most assists on the Bucks behind Damian Lillard (10). Portis will remain in Milwaukee's starting five against the 76ers on Sunday if Antetokounmpo is not cleared to return.
Feb 5, 2025
Dominant double-double in return
Portis registered 23 points (10-21 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 17 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal over 32 minutes during Wednesday's 112-102 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis returned Wednesday from a six-game absence due to a personal matter, and he was immediately placed into the Bucks' starting five due to the late scratch of Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf). Portis finished as the game's leading rebounder, and he and Damian Lillard (29 points) gave Milwaukee enough firepower to make up for the absence of Antetokounmpo. Portis will likely return to a reserve role Friday against Atlanta if Antetokounmpo is cleared to play.
Feb 5, 2025
Will start vs. Charlotte
Portis will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Hornets, with Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) being a late scratch for Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Portis will be a starter for the Bucks on Wednesday for the sixth time this season due to Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) set to miss this game in Charlotte. The veteran big man is averaging 13.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, shooting 46.6 percent from the field this season for Milwaukee.
Feb 5, 2025
Available against Hornets
Portis (personal) is available for Wednesday's game against the Hornets, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has missed Milwaukee's last six games due to personal reasons, but the Bucks have upgraded the veteran big man from probable to available Wednesday. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) iffy to play against Charlotte, Portis could be in for an expanded role. Portis has averaged 11.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 21.6 minutes across his last nine appearances.
Feb 4, 2025
Probable for Wednesday
Portis (personal) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed the past six games for the Bucks while tending to a personal matter. Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) is questionable, so Portis may need to step into a larger role upon his return.
Feb 3, 2025
Not playing Monday
Portis (personal) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Thunder, Steve McGehee of News 9 Oklahoma City reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss his sixth straight game while attending to a personal matter. The short-handed Bucks will be without Portis, Brook Lopez (back), Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), Damian Lillard (groin) and Khris Middleton (ankles) in the second game of a back-to-back set Monday. That opens the door for Gary Trent, Andre Jackson, Pat Connaughton, AJ Green and Taurean Prince to all take on increased roles against Oklahoma City.
Feb 3, 2025
Doubtful Monday
Portis (personal) is doubtful for Monday's matchup against the Thunder, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis is likely to be sidelined, while Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) and Khris Middleton (ankles) have been ruled out. The shorthanded Bucks will need increased contributions across the board, including potentially increased minutes from players like Gary Trent, Andre Jackson, Pat Connaughton, MarJon Beauchamp and others.
Feb 1, 2025
Not returning Sunday
Portis (personal) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS

Jan 30, 2025
Ruled out for Friday
Portis (personal) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss his fourth consecutive contest Friday due to personal reasons. With the big man remaining on the shelf, Taurean Prince and Andre Jackson should continue to see increased playing time.
Jan 28, 2025
Another absence coming
Portis (personal) will not play Tuesday against Portland.
ANALYSIS
Portis will be sidelined for a third straight game Tuesday. For now, it remains to be seen if he'll be available to return Friday against the Spurs. Taurean Prince and Gary Trent will likely continue to benefit in the meantime.
Jan 26, 2025
Not playing Monday
Portis (personal) will not play Monday against the Jazz, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss a second straight game due to personal reasons, and his next opportunity to play will be Tuesday against Portland. Taurean Prince and Gary Trent saw their playing time increase Saturday against the Clippers, and the duo will likely see the floor more Monday due to Portis' absence.
Jan 25, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Portis is out for Saturday's game versus the Clippers due to personal reasons.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss his first game since Nov. 13 due to personal reasons. Pat Connaughton and Tyler Smith are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence. Portis' next chance to suit up is Monday's matchup with Utah.
Jan 24, 2025
Solid outing off bench Thursday
Portis accumulated 16 points (7-14 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes during Thursday's 125-96 victory over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Portis put together a solid outing from Milwaukee's bench Thursday. After wrapping up December on a high note, the 29-year-old big man cooled down considerably in the month of January. Portis has averaged 11.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 three-pointers in 22.6 minutes over his last 11 games, but he should remain locked in as the Bucks' sixth man as he looks to heat up going forward.
Jan 15, 2025
Logs 8/9 line in win
Portis had eight points (4-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt), nine rebounds and one assist in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 130-115 victory over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Although Portis' shot volume wasn't high, he made a solid contribution and finished with the team's second-highest rebound total in a reserve role. His scoring has dipped slightly since running up a six-game double-digit scoring streak that began in late December, but his numbers of the glass remain consistent.
Jan 6, 2025
Leads bench in win Monday
Portis racked up 20 points (8-12 FG, 4-6 3Pt), seven rebounds and three assists over 23 minutes during Monday's 128-104 win over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
The big man led Milwaukee's bench in points while finishing as the club's second-leading scorer behind Damian Lillard (25 points). Portis put together a solid bounce-back outing after scoring only nine points in Saturday's loss to Portland, during which he shot only 4-for-11 from the floor and 1-for-4 from downtown. The 29-year-old forward has reached the double-digit mark in points in eight of his last 10 appearances, and in that 10-game span he has also made two or more three-pointers in five games.
Dec 31, 2024
Return to bench role
Portis will head back to the bench with the return of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
ANALYSIS
Portis started the last four games for the Bucks with Antetokounmpo battling an illness. The veteran center played well during this four-game span, recording two double-doubles and scoring a season-high 34 points in the win over the Wizards, which is four points shy of his career-high total of 38.
Dec 26, 2024
Solid two-way play Thursday
Portis totaled 18 points (7-16 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight rebounds, four assists and two steals over 35 minutes during Thursday's 111-105 loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been trusted with a more prominent offensive role due to the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (illness), but the veteran has stepped up and has been playing at a high level in recent games. Even though Portis ended just two boards shy of recording what would've been his third consecutive double-double, his scoring numbers are worth highlighting in their own right. as Portis has posted at least 18 points in five of his last seven appearances regardless of whether he's coming off the bench or starting.
Dec 23, 2024
Nabs double-double in victory
Portis finished Monday's 112-91 victory over Chicago with 19 points (7-18 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 13 rebounds and six assists over 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The veteran forward stuffed the stat sheet and recorded his second consecutive double-double while starting in his second straight outing with Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) sidelined. Portis logged his fifth double-double of the season Monday, and he has racked up seven games with double-digit rebounds through 27 regular-season appearances (three starts). If Antetokounmpo remains sidelined Thursday against Brooklyn, Portis should be in for an expanded role once again.
Dec 21, 2024
Does it all in spot start
Portis produced 34 points (14-21 FG, 6-9 3Pt), 10 rebounds, eight assists, one block and three steals in 32 minutes during Saturday's 112-101 win over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Starting at power forward in place of Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) on Saturday, Portis flirted with his first career triple-double, led all scorers with a season-high 34 points, and also set new season highs with his eight dimes, six threes and three steals. Portis has now made three appearances this season with Antetokounmpo unavailable for the Bucks, averaging a strong 22.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, 1.0 steals and 2.3 three-pointers in 29.7 minutes per game during these instances. If Antetokounmpo remains inactive for Monday's game against the Bulls, fantasy managers can expect Portis to take on an expanded role and offer additional upside in this case.
Dec 21, 2024
Starting Saturday
Portis is part of the first unit for Saturday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis steps into the first unit in place of Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) on Saturday. In Portis' only start this season, he logged 21 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks across 39 minutes.
Dec 11, 2024
Double-doubles in win
Portis registered 22 points (9-11 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 114-109 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
After a modest start to the season, Portis has got things going in the right direction over the past two games. He has played at least 30 minutes in each of the two games, averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 2.0 blocks and 3.5 three-pointers. While he won't be this good every night, it is clear that what he had been doing in the previous weeks was largely below expectations.
Dec 8, 2024
Shines from deep off bench in win
Portis provided 23 points (9-10 FG, 5-5 3Pt), five rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal across 31 minutes during Sunday's 118-113 win over Brooklyn.
ANALYSIS
Portis was nearly perfect from the field and shot a perfect mark from deep in Sunday's victory, leading all bench players in scoring and rebounds while finishing as one of three Bucks players with 20 or more points. Portis, who also tallied a team-high-tying trio of blocks, set season-high marks in both scoring and shots made from three. He has now surpassed the 20-point mark in three outings, two of which have come off the bench.
Nov 21, 2024
Dishes season high six assists
Portis added eight points (2-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds and six assists in 22 minutes during Wednesday's 122-106 win over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
While Portis was not particularly efficient from the field, he found other ways to contribute and ended the game with his season high in assists (six). Portis continues to be a key contributor for Milwaukee off the bench, averaging 13.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.4 steals across 24.0 minutes.
Nov 16, 2024
Drops 21 points in return
Portis ended Saturday's 115-114 loss to the Hornets with 21 points (9-15 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-5 FT), seven rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Despite battling through a right elbow contusion that kept him out of Wednesday's win over the Pistons, Portis returned Saturday and was the third-leading scorer for the Bucks behind Taurean Prince (23) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (22). Portis has scored in double digits in seven of his last eight outings, and over that span he has averaged 14.8 points and 8.3 rebounds over 24.1 minutes per game.
Nov 16, 2024
Unexpectedly active for Saturday
Portis (elbow) is available for Saturday's game versus the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been upgraded from doubtful all the way to available Saturday despite dealing with a right elbow contusion. Across his last five appearances, Portis is averaging 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds in 24.8 minutes.
Nov 15, 2024
Unlikely for Saturday
Coach Doc Rivers said Friday that Portis (elbow) probably won't play in Saturday's matchup against the Hornets, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis is dealing with a right elbow contusion and can be considered questionable at best after missing Wednesday's overtime win over the Pistons. If the big man misses a second consecutive contest, Taurean Prince and Andre Jackson will likely see an uptick in playing time and an increased role.
Nov 13, 2024
Late scratch Wednesday
Portis is officially out for Wednesday's game against Detroit due to a right elbow contusion, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis being ruled out within 90 minutes of tipoff is a twist for Milwaukee's frontcourt. Brook Lopez has logged at least 35 minutes in three of Milwaukee's last six games, and a similar workload may be in store with Portis unavailable. Taurean Prince could log extra minutes at power forward, while MarJon Beauchamp could enter the rotation.
Nov 13, 2024
Productive off bench Tuesday
Portis finished with 17 points (8-17 FG, 1-7 3Pt) and eight rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 99-85 victory over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
The veteran big continues to struggle from beyond the arc, but Portis still managed to post solid numbers on the night. He's drained multiple threes only once in 11 games to begin the season, shooting a career-low 24.3 percent from downtown, but Portis has maintained a decent fantasy floor with 12.9 points and 8.2 boards a contest.
Nov 10, 2024
Bounces back in loss
Portis notched 15 points (6-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds and one steal over 23 minutes during Sunday's 113-107 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old forward led the bench in scoring in a bounce-back game, during which he also finished as the club's second-highest scorer behind Giannis Antetokounmpo (43). Portis has been inconsistent while shooting 45.4 percent from the field, which would be his lowest mark during his tenure in Milwaukee. Through 10 regular-season outings, the big man has averaged 12.5 points and 8.2 rebounds across 25.1 minutes per game.

Shooting struggles in loss
Portis posted four points (1-8 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and one assist across 17 minutes during Friday's 116-94 loss to New York.
ANALYSIS
For the first time in eight appearances, Portis failed to make multiple baskets and ended up playing a season-low 17 minutes. Given his role, Portis' production tends to fluctuate, and given he averaged 13.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks over his first eight games, it's safe to say the veteran forward will bounce back eventually.
Nov 8, 2024
Logs 19 points from bench
Portis supplied 19 points (7-15 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-3 FT) and six rebounds in 27 minutes during Thursday's 123-100 win over Utah.
ANALYSIS
After a night with the first unit in place of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Portis returned to the bench to resume his typical sixth-man role with the offense. His 21/18 double-double against the Cavaliers on Monday represented his most impressive double-double line in recent memory, matching an 18-rebound total he accrued during the first round of the 2023-24 NBA Playoffs. Portis' overall numbers will remain solid with the second unit.
Nov 7, 2024
Slides to bench Thursday
Portis will retreat to the bench in Thursday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old forward produced a stellar performance while getting the start for Giannis Antetokounmpo (thigh) in Tuesday's loss to Cleveland, during which he posted 21 points (10-21 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds, three blocks and one assist in 39 minutes. With Antetokounmpo back in the lineup, Portis will slide to the bench and receive his normal workload in the second unit.
Nov 5, 2024
Massive double-double in defeat
Portis ended Monday's 116-114 loss to the Cavaliers with 21 points (10-21 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds, three blocks and one assist in 39 minutes.
ANALYSIS
While filling in for Giannis Antetokounmpo (thigh) in the starting five, Portis posted a monster double-double with a season high in both points and rebounds. The big man has remained a mostly consistent option off the bench thus far, leading a second unit which has had its fair share of struggles through seven regular-season games. Aside from his rebounding, Portis' best ability in fantasy is his availability, and he has played in 65 or more regular-season contests in each of his last five seasons. The 29-year-old has averaged 12.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.9 blocks while shooting 47.6 percent from the field across 26.3 minutes per game thus far.
Nov 4, 2024
Starting Monday
Portis is in the Bucks' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Portis will make his first start of the 2024-25 regular season Monday due to Giannis Antetokounmpo being sidelined with an adductor strain. Through the first six games of the campaign, Portis is averaging 11.0 points on 47.6 percent shooting, 7.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 24.2 minutes per contest.
Oct 29, 2024
Plays season-low 19 minutes
Portis contributed four points (2-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), six rebounds and one block across 19 minutes during Monday's 119-108 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
This was Portis' worst performance of the young season, resulting in just 19 minutes off the bench. He was productive in his previous three games, however, so fantasy managers should brush this off as a simple off night for the veteran forward. For the season, he's hitting 51.3 percent of his shots from the field.
Oct 27, 2024
Double-double off bench
Portis closed with 16 points (7-14 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one block across 27 minutes during Sunday's 115-102 loss to Brooklyn.
ANALYSIS
Portis logged his first double-double of the season Sunday, and he finished as the Bucks' third-leading scorer behind Giannis Antetokounmpo (22) and Damian Lillard (21). Portis will continue to be the first big man off the bench for the Bucks this season behind Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez.
Oct 22, 2024
Cleared to play Wednesday
Portis (rest) isn't listed on the injury report for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Portis is good to go for the regular season after resting during the Bucks' preseason finale. The veteran finished third in Sixth Man of the Year voting last year, trailing Naz Reid and Malik Monk.
Oct 17, 2024
Won't play in preseason finale
Portis (rest) is inactive for Thursday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been one of the best players in the preseason throughout the league, and he's getting the night off in the final tune-up before the start of the regular season next Wednesday. Portis will open the 2024-25 regular season as the Bucks' primary frontcourt backup.
Oct 11, 2024
Performs well in reserve role
Portis compiled 23 points (8-9 FG, 5-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and an assist across15 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Portis drilled a flurry of threes during his time on the floor and nailed all five of his attempts. He matched that feat just once last season, so although Portis can be counted on to take some shots from long range, Thursday's result was an outlier event. Portis led the team in scoring and is expected to play a sixth-man role once again this season.
Oct 7, 2024
Scores team-high 16 points
Portis delivered 16 points (5-7 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), a rebound and an assist across 14 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 120-87 preseason loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis was efficient with his shot and made the most of his minutes out there, though it's not like he's competing for a role off the bench or anything like that heading into the 2024-25 campaign. Portis is penciled to operate as the Bucks' sixth man and plug-in starter whenever there's a frontcourt player unavailable due to his versatility on both ends of the court. He figures to see steady minutes off the bench once the Bucks open the regular season against the 76ers on Sep. 23.
May 2, 2024
Owns glass in season-ending loss
Portis ended with 20 points (8-17 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 3-7 FT), 15 rebounds and two assists over 36 minutes in Thursday's 120-98 loss to Indiana in Game 6 of the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs.
ANALYSIS
Portis once again dominated the glass for Milwaukee in a season-ending loss Thursday, leading all players in the contest in rebounds while ending as one of three Bucks with 20 or more points in a double-double outing. Portis stepped up nicely in the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) in the first-round series, posting a double-double in five of the six contests while surpassing the 20-point mark in the final two games against Indiana.
May 1, 2024
Dominates in Game 5 victory
Portis racked up 29 points (14-24 FG, 1-3 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 39 minutes during Tuesday's 115-92 victory over the Pacers in Game 5 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
ANALYSIS
Portis atoned for his ejection in Game 4, leading the Bucks to an emphatic victory. He led all scorers with 29 points, having his way on the interior against a Pacers team that looked totally out-enthused. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) still on the sideline, Portis has been the primary beneficiary. Milwaukee will need for him to replicate this performance should they hope to force a Game 7.
Apr 28, 2024
Ejected Sunday
Portis has been ejected from Sunday's contest against the Pacers, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis was assessed with two technical fouls stemming from an altercation with Andrew Nembhard in the first quarter, disqualifying him for the remainder of the game. The already shorthanded Bucks will likely lean on Andre Jackson, Pat Connaughton and Jae Crowder to fill Portis' role.
Apr 26, 2024
Owns glass in double-double showing
Portis finished with 17 points (7-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 18 rebounds, one block and one steal over 44 minutes in Friday's 121-118 overtime loss to Indiana in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Portis dominated the boards in Friday's contest, leading all players in rebounds while finishing as one of two Bucks with a double-double in a losing effort in overtime. Portis has stepped in nicely while Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) continuing to miss time, recording a double-double in all three games in the quarterfinals thus far. Portis will continue to remain in the starting lineup until Antetokounmpo is able to return, but will become a key player off of Milwaukee's bench if the two-time MVP does come back for Game 4 or at some point in the series against Indiana.
Apr 24, 2024
Records double-double in loss
Portis supplied 14 points (6-16 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 125-108 loss to Indiana in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Although Portis didn't come anywhere near Giannis Antetokounmpo's (calf) usual production, he's doing enough to keep the interior afloat. Portis is expected to play at least one more game as Antetokounmpo's fill-in, but he'll need to keep the double-doubles coming. The Bucks' playoff fortunes will fade rapidly without a stronger response to Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner in the paint.
Apr 22, 2024
Double-doubles in start
Portis posted 15 points (7-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds and one assist across 31 minutes before fouling out of Sunday's 109-94 victory over the Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Portis remained in the starting lineup for Game 1, filling the vacant spot left by Giannis Antetkounmpo (calf). While he is certainly not a like-for-like replacement, Portis is more than capable of producing, especially on the offensive end. With Antetokounmpo likely to miss at least another game, Portis should continue to serve as the second or third option on offense for the time being.
Apr 14, 2024
Tallies double-double in loss
Portis had 17 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals across 31 minutes during Sunday's 113-88 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis earned his third straight start in place of the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf), leading all Bucks in rebounds to go along with a team-high-tying point total in the lone double-double of the contest. Portis has stepped up nicely for Milwaukee to round out the regular season, posting a double-double in four of the final eight games of the year.
Apr 12, 2024
Good to go
Portis (rest) is available for Friday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Portis, Brook Lopez (rest) and Khris Middleton (ankle) have all been upgraded from questionable to available, while Damian Lillard (adductor) has been downgraded to out and will join Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) on the sidelines. With Antetokounmpo out again, Portis should remain in the first unit after posting 30 points (14-18 FG), nine rebounds, five steals and three assists as a starter during Wednesday's win over Orlando.
Apr 11, 2024
Questionable for Friday
Portis is questionable for Friday's game against the Thunder due to rest.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been anchoring the second unit all season long, but he started in Wednesday's win over the Magic, posting 30 points (14-18 FG, 2-2 3Pt), nine rebounds, three assists and five steals in 30 minutes. The Bucks might choose to rest him considering the uncertainty regarding Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf), and if that's the case, then Jae Crowder or Danilo Gallinari could be in line to see more minutes in the final two games of the regular season.
Apr 10, 2024
Gets starting nod
Portis is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis will replace Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) in the starting lineup Wednesday. Portis tallied 27 points, seven rebounds and three steals in 36 minutes during his only other start this season.
Apr 8, 2024
Drops 24 points in loss
Portis closed Sunday's 122-109 loss to New York with 24 points (10-15 FG, 4-6 3Pt), five rebounds and two assists across 29 minutes.
ANALYSIS
This was a terrific showing for Portis as he continues to impress off the bench. Over his last four games, Portis has put together averages of 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 blocks and 2.0 three-pointers in 27.5 minutes.
Apr 4, 2024
Scores 19 points off bench
Portis posted 19 points (8-16 FG, 3-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 111-101 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Portis continues to strengthen his candidacy as the Sixth Man of the Year with another strong two-way showing. Portis is ending the campaign on a very strong note for the Bucks, and his role tends to grow whenever one of the starters is not available. Portis is averaging 15.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and a combined 1.4 steals-plus-blocks across 25.3 minutes per game since the All-Star break, making him one of the most effective per-minute bench players in The Association.
Mar 27, 2024
Rebounding reinforcements
Portis closed Tuesday's 128-124 double-overtime loss to the Lakers with 18 points (7-15 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 13 rebounds, one block and one steal over 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis and Giannis Antetokounmpo (29 points, 21 rebounds) combined to account for 55.7 percent of Milwaukee's rebounds as a team -- although Los Angeles still won the rebounding battle 69 to 61. Tuesday represents a quintessential performance of the best Portis brings off Milwaukee's bench, contributing via efficient scoring, reliable floor spacing and two-way rebounding energy.
Mar 20, 2024
Monster game in reserve vs. Boston
Portis finished with 24 points (11-20 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), 15 rebounds and one block over 33 minutes in Wednesday's 122-119 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (hamstring) sidelined for the second-straight game, Portis ate up the forward minutes off the bench and registered his 12th double-double of the season. It was a nice follow-up from his 31-point performance Sunday against the Suns, though Milwaukee wasn't able to come away with the win Wednesday. Portis is averaging 17.6 points on 54.0 percent shooting (including 48.1 percent from three on 3.0 3PA/G) and 9.1 rebounds over 26.3 minutes per game in March.
Mar 18, 2024
Ties season scoring high
Portis closed with 31 points (13-20 FG, 5-5 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two assists and three steals across 30 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 140-129 victory over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
The double-double was the 11th of the season for Portis, while the 31 points tied his best scoring performance of the season -- he also erupted for 31 against the Pistons on Dec. 16. The 29-year-old big has hit for at least 20 points four times in the last 10 games as the Bucks' primary second-unit threat, a stretch in which he's averaging 16.9 points, 8.5 boards, 1.6 assists, 1.3 threes and 0.9 steals while shooting 53.4 percent from the floor.
Mar 7, 2024
Strong showing off bench Wednesday
Portis had 20 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and one assist over 24 minutes off the bench during Wednesday's 125-90 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
The veteran big has re-emerged as a key member of the Bucks' second unit, scoring at least 20 points in three of the last five games and delivering double-digit points in 12 straight contests. Over the latter stretch, Portis is averaging 16.6 points, 7.8 boards, 2.0 assists and 1.4 threes while shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 42.5 percent from long distance
Mar 5, 2024
Goes for 28 points off bench
Portis contributed 28 points (12-18 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 16 rebounds and two assists over 30 minutes during Monday's 113-106 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks didn't have Giannis Antetokounmpo (Achilles) for this one, and even though Portis continued playing his regular role off the bench, he was one of the team's best performers, finishing second in scoring behind Damian Lillard and being an absolute force on the glass. It's clear playing off the bench or starting doesn't affect Portis' fantasy upside, and the veteran forward remains a productive player who can produce double-doubles when given enough minutes. Over his last 10 appearances, he's averaging 16.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.7 steals across 24.1 minutes per game off the bench.
Mar 2, 2024
Flirts with double-double in win
Portis finished Friday's 113-97 win over the Bulls with 11 points (4-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals across 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
While it wasn't a stellar shooting night for Portis, he provided solid rebound totals in the win and finished second behind Giannis Antetokounmpo in the category. He's had a nice three-game run with the second unit, averaging 15..3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals over the span.
Mar 1, 2024
Double-double from second unit
Portis provided 14 points (5-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in 28 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 111-99 win over Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
It's the ninth double-double of the season for Portis, who saw his usage and production increase in February. Over 12 games on the month, the 29-year-old forward averaging 15.3 points, 7.4 boards, 2.0 assists, 1.4 threes and 1.2 steals in only 26.0 minutes a contest, emerging as a key piece of the Bucks' experienced second unit.
Feb 28, 2024
Productive off bench Tuesday
Portis racked up 21 points (9-16 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes during Tuesday's 123-85 victory over Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Portis continues to make a huge impact off the bench for the Bucks, and this was his eighth consecutive game with double-digit points. Over that eight-game stretch, Portis is averaging 15.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 0.3 blocks per contest. Those numbers are good enough to make him valuable in all fantasy formats despite his bench role.
Feb 16, 2024
Continues solid play off bench
Portis closed with 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-1 3Pt), seven rebounds and two assists over 25 minutes during Thursday's 113-110 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Portis scored in double figures for a fifth straight game and added at least seven rebounds for the fourth time during that stretch. The veteran backup has seen a slight drop in production compared to last year, but he's still a vital part of Milwaukee's rotation, especially if Khris Middleton (ankle) remains sidelined following the All-Star break.
Feb 13, 2024
Subpar despite big win
Portis provided 13 points (6-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt), eight rebounds and three assists over 25 minutes during Monday's 112-95 victory over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Portis has shot an uncharacteristically low 40.8 percent from the field across his last four games, dipping his season average to 49.2 percent on 10.3 shots per game. Nonetheless, he continues bringing valued spacing and bucket-getting with size while ranking in the 83rd percentile among all bigs in defensive rebounding rate this season.
Feb 6, 2024
Coming off bench
Portis will come off the bench for Tuesday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Although Brook Lopez (personal) is out again, the Bucks are rolling with Robin Lopez as their starting center Tuesday. Portis had one of his best games of the season Sunday against the Jazz, producing 27 points (11-20 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and three steals over 36 minutes.
Feb 5, 2024
Puts up 27 points in loss
Portis totaled 27 points (11-20 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and three steals over 36 minutes during Sunday's 123-108 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Portis moved into the starting lineup for the first time this season in place of Brook Lopez, who missed the contest for personal reasons. Portis responded with one of his best games of the campaign, knocking down four triples en route to 27 points. He added a season-high three steals and seven boards to reward daily fantasy players who added him to their lineups. Portis has shown the ability to produce well as a reserve, but if Lopez misses additional time and Portis continues to start in his place, he's likely to have a short-term spike in value.
Feb 4, 2024
Enters starting lineup
Portis will start Sunday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Portis will make his first start of the season with Brook Lopez (personal) out of the lineup. Portis has been playing well of late, averaging 12.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 24.4 minutes per game over his last five appearances. He will look to continue his strong play in a starting role.
Feb 4, 2024
Consistent contributions continue
Portis posted 12 points (4-10 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes during Saturday's 129-117 victory over Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Portis is averaging 12.8 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 42.1 percent from deep in 24.4 minutes across his last five contests. Portis is spending 63.0 percent of his minutes as a center for Milwaukee, and his defensive rebounding rate ranks in the 82nd percentile, just below Deandre Ayton but just above Jarrett Allen.
Jan 28, 2024
Milwaukee runs on BP
Portis had 20 points (9-15 FG, 2-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in 22 minutes before fouling out of Saturday's 141-117 win over New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Portis launched his fourth-highest shot quantity of the season Saturday en route to his sixth game with 20 plus-points. He has been mentioned in trade rumors throughout past weeks, but Portis plays an imperative role as frontcourt depth with the ability to space the floor and rebound in the second unit. Remaining in Milwaukee is likely, especially considering the Bucks' limited trade assets that could be packaged with Portis to improve the roster.
Jan 27, 2024
Approaches double-double Friday
Portis closed Friday's 112-100 loss to the Cavaliers with 12 points (4-8 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds and one steal over 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis snapped a streak of three consecutive games with double-digit scoring totals Friday, and he came within two rebounds of a double-double in the defeat. He's now secured at least six boards in six of his last eight appearances, and he's scored in double figures five times across that span.
Jan 15, 2024
Dominant in win
Portis amassed 22 points (9-11 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist across 26 minutes during Sunday's 143-142 overtime victory over Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Portis stepped up for a Milwaukee team that was without Khris Middleton for the second leg of their back-to-back set. The forward recorded his seventh double-double of the season in the win, and he's in the midst of his best stretch of the campaign. Over his last three games, Portis holds averages of 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 three-pointers in just 22.8 minutes.
Jan 12, 2024
Top scorer off bench in blowout win
Portis chipped in 28 points (11-18 FG, 5-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds and one steal over 22 minutes during Thursday's 135-102 win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Portis led all players in Thursday's contest in scoring and threes made while hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total in a double-double performance. Portis connected on at least five threes for the first time while tying a season high in rebounds and posting his sixth double-double of the year.
Jan 5, 2024
Minor slump continues
Portis contributed five points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and one block in 21 minutes during Thursday's 125-121 victory over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Despite averaging 12.3 points per game this season, Portis has failed to score in double digits over his last four outings. The 28-year-old big man is shooting just 35.3 percent from the field and 10.0 percent from three over that span. Portis has also seen his rebounding drop significantly, going from 9.6 per contest last season to 6.7 in 2023-24.
Dec 25, 2023
Just misses double-double Monday
Portis chipped in 12 points (5-11 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and nine rebounds across 31 minutes off the bench during Monday's 129-122 loss to New York.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old forward just missed recording his fourth double-double in the last six games as he led the Bucks' second unit in scoring, rebounding and minutes. Portis is enjoying a strong December overall, averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 boards and 1.5 threes in 24.5 minutes a game over the last 11 contests while shooting a blistering 57.6 percent from the floor and 42.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Dec 23, 2023
Double-double in Saturday's win
Portis ended Saturday's 130-111 victory over the Knicks with 23 points (9-14 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and two steals across 27 minutes off the bench.
ANALYSIS
It was the fifth double-double of the season for Portis, but three of them have come in the last five games. The veteran big is having a strong December overall, averaging 16.2 points, 7.7 boards and 1.7 threes in 23.9 minutes over the last 10 games.
Dec 20, 2023
Shines off bench Tuesday
Portis produced 23 points (10-16 FG, 3-6 3Pt), 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals over 26 minutes during Tuesday's 132-119 victory over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Portis was one of Milwaukee's best players in this one despite coming off the bench, and his physicality gave him a boost against a more undersized Spurs frontcourt. Portis hasn't posted the same numbers he's had in previous seasons, but he remains a valuable piece off the bench for the Bucks. He's on a roll of late after scoring in double figures in his last five outings, a span in which he's averaging 20.2 points per game while shooting an impressive, and almost unsustainable, 63.1 percent from the field.
Dec 16, 2023
Season best outing off bench
Portis posted 31 points (11-18 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 27 minutes during Saturday's 146-114 win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Portis led all bench players in Saturday's game in scoring while hauling in a team-best rebound total and setting season-high marks in points, rebounds and threes made. Portis has finished with 17 or more points in three straight contests, hauling in 10 or more rebounds in two games this year.
Dec 13, 2023
Ejected Wednesday
Portis was ejected from Wednesday's game after receiving his second technical foul, Alex Golden of the 'Setting the Pace' podcast reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis picked up his first technical in a confrontation with Aaron Nesmith after Nesmith committed a hard foul on Giannis Antetokounmpo. Soon after, Portis was handed a second tech during a verbal altercation with Obi Toppin. He'll leave the contest with 19 points (8-13 FG, 3-4 3Pt), two rebounds and two assists across 23 minutes. Portis should be expected to be back in action Saturday against the Pistons.
Dec 12, 2023
Scores efficient 17 points
Portis contributed 17 points (7-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and seven rebounds over 25 minutes during Monday's 133-129 overtime victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis played 25 minutes off the bench, scoring at least 13 points for the third time in the past four games. Although he remains a key piece off the bench for the Bucks, Portis is barely inside the top 150 for the season. He can be utilized for streaming purposes but at this point, it's hard to make a case for him being a must-roster player.
Dec 3, 2023
Makes big impact off bench
Portis accumulated 15 points (7-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt) and 11 rebounds in 23 minutes during Saturday's 132-121 win over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Portis didn't have his best offensive showing, but he still found a way to record a double-double despite logging just 23 minutes. The veteran big man has struggled when it comes to his consistency, however, and he has scored in double digits just twice over his last six outings. That lack of consistency certainly conspires against his upside in most formats.
Dec 1, 2023
Struggles against Bulls
Portis amassed four points (2-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt), nine rebounds, two assists and two steals across 31 minutes during Thursday's 120-113 overtime loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
This was an uninspiring fantasy line from Portis, especially considering he played 31 minutes. He's been cold for several games now, scoring in double figures just once in his last five contests. Over that stretch, Portis is averaging 5.6 points and 6.4 rebounds in 26.0 minutes.
Nov 18, 2023
Solid numbers in rout
Portis contributed 13 points (6-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal in 30 minutes off the bench during Friday's 130-99 victory over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Seven different Bucks hit for double-digit points on the night, but it was Portis that led the second unit in scoring. The 28-year-old big has contributed more than 10 points in seven straight games as he finds his groove, averaging 14.7 points, 7.1 boards, 1.4 threes and 1.5 steals plus blocks during that stretch while shooting 50.6 percent from the floor, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and 93.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Nov 10, 2023
Nears double-double off bench
Portis posted 11 points (5-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal over 24 minutes during Thursday's 126-124 loss to the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis once again provided Milwaukee with a spark off the bench in the paint, leading all Bucks players in scoring and rebounds while finishing two boards shy of a double-double. Portis has gotten off to a strong start to the regular season, reaching the double-digit point mark in seven of his eight appearances while adding five or more rebounds in six outings.
Nov 9, 2023
Steps in off bench in victory
Portis totaled 18 points (7-14 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds and two assists across 23 minutes during Wednesday's 120-118 victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis stepped up for Milwaukee off the bench when Giannis Antetokounmpo was ejected in the second half of Wednesday's game, finishing second on the team in scoring and ending two points short of the 20-point mark. Portis posted his highest scoring total over seven appearances, reaching double figures in six contests this year.
Nov 7, 2023
Productive in win
Portis closed Monday's 129-125 win over Brooklyn with 11 points (3-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, two assists and two steals over 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis will be relieved that he hit a three-pointer, as it was his first make of the season on nine total attempts. He's due for some positive regression in that category, as he averaged 1.4 three-pointers per game in 2022-23 on 37.0 percent shooting.
Oct 31, 2023
Comes close to double-double
Portis registered 16 points (7-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals across 19 minutes during Monday's 122-114 victory over Miami.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been one of the most productive bench players in the league over the last few seasons, and while the current campaign is only three games old, he's once again putting up solid numbers and showing that ability to produce when called upon duty. Portis has yet to play more than 21 minutes in a game and has come off the bench in each of those appearances, yet he's also scored in double digits each time. Through three games, he's putting up 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks across 19.7 minutes per game.
Oct 25, 2023
Expected to be available Thursday
Coach Adrian Griffin said Wednesday that he expects Portis (rest) to be available for Thursday's regular-season opener against the 76ers, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed the Bucks' final two preseason games, but the team didn't give an indication that he was dealing with an injury. He was a full participant in Wednesday's practice session and should be good to go for the start of the regular season.
Oct 20, 2023
Absent again Friday
Portis (rest) did not see the floor during Friday's preseason game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Portis also missed Tuesday's exhibition, but there's no word of any injuries. Presumably, the Bucks are just making sure he's fresh for Opening Night on Oct. 26.
Oct 17, 2023
Sitting out Tuesday
Portis won't play in Tuesday's preseason game versus the Thunder due to rest, Justin Garcia of the Milwaukee Bucks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis hasn't suffered any injury but will sit out Tuesday's contest. His next chance to suit up is Friday's preseason matchup with the Grizzlies.
Oct 16, 2023
Stuffs stat sheet Sunday
Portis notched 10 points (4-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds and three assists across 21 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 108-97 preseason win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Portis is not expected to be a regular starter if the Bucks are at full strength once the regular season rolls around, but he's still good enough to remain productive -- and thus, valuable in most fantasy formats -- as a bench alternative. Portis has tallied 25 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists in 48 total minutes off play across three contests.
Oct 11, 2023
Excels in spot start
Portis tallied seven points (3-7 FG, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes during Tuesday's preseason 108-102 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Portis started in Tuesday's preseason contest with Giannis Antetokounmpo (rest) out. Portis made just 22 starts last season, but he will likely be one of Milwaukee's top options off the bench yet again in 2023-24.
Apr 24, 2023
Off the bench
Portis will return to the second unit for Monday's Game 4 versus Miami.
ANALYSIS
Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) is returning from a two-game absence, so he'll replace Portis in the first unit and will be joined by Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez. With the return to the reserve role, Portis' minutes will likely dip to the lower-20s.
Apr 23, 2023
Near double-double in loss
Portis produced nine points (4-9 FG, 1-4 3Pt), 10 rebounds, one assist and two steals across 23 minutes before fouling out of Saturday's 121-99 loss to the Heat in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) out, Portis drew a second straight start, and he nearly posted another double-double before fouling out. Over the first three games of the opening-round series, the veteran forward has averaged 14.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 26.0 minutes.
Apr 20, 2023
Dominates glass
Portis had 13 points (5-9 FG, 3-4 3Pt), 15 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 138-122 victory over the Heat in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Portis entered the starting lineup with teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) sidelined and provided a massive double-double in the Game 2 blowout. Not only did the seven-year vet collect a game-high 15 rebounds, but he also set a playoff career-high assist mark with five dimes. Portis dominated the glass early and collected nine boards before the half. As long as he remains in the starting lineup, Portis should continue to provide solid stats across the board.
Apr 19, 2023
Starting Game 2
Portis will enter the first five for Wednesday's Game 2 versus Miami.
ANALYSIS
Portis will step into the starting lineup Wednesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) sidelined for the contest. The big man went off for 21 points and eight rebounds over 27 minutes of Game 1 action and should certainly be in fantasy considerations with Antetokounmpo inactive Wednesday. In 22 regular-season starts, Portis averaged 17.4 points and 10.8 rebounds over 30.4 minutes.
Apr 16, 2023
Nears double-double to lead bench
Portis totaled 21 points (9-15 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and eight rebounds across 27 minutes during Sunday's 130-117 loss to Miami in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Portis led all bench players in Sunday's Game 1 in scoring and rebounds while finishing as one of two Bucks players with 20 or more points in a near double-double showing. Portis posted at least 20 points and eight rebounds on 12 occasions during the regular season.
Apr 16, 2023
Coming off bench in Game 1
Portis isn't starting Game 1 of the Eastern Conference First Round against Miami on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Portis drew the start in last weekend's regular-season finale since the Bucks rested their entire starting lineup, but he'll unsurprisingly retreat to the bench for the team's first playoff matchup. The 28-year-old has averaged 12.6 points and 9.1 rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game off the bench this year.
Apr 9, 2023
Starting season finale
Portis will start Sunday's game against the Raptors, Blake Murphy of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
After resting Friday against Memphis, Portis is back in action as the 1-seed Bucks finish out their regular-season schedule. Milwaukee will be without its entire regular starting five, but it's possible Portis could see his minutes monitored given that it's ultimately a meaningless contest.
Apr 7, 2023
Not starting
Portis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks are resting all their regular starters and playing reserve players who have not seen much time this season. Portis has not been declared inactive, so it remains to be seen if he will see his usual bench role or ultimately get rested as an active player.
Apr 6, 2023
Diesel from BP
Portis finished with 27 points (9-18 FG, 6-9 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 37 minutes during Wednesday's 105-92 victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis has compiled an astounding 46 points and 33 rebounds over his last two games. He's now racked up 38 double-doubles this season. Portis was raining in threes Wednesday and he has connected on 15 of 27 threes over his last four games.
Apr 5, 2023
Gets starting nod
Portis is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis will replace Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) in the starting five Wednesday. Portis is averaging 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30.6 minutes across his previous 20 starts this season.
Apr 4, 2023
Milwaukee runs on BP
Portis accumulated 19 points (5-15 FG, 5-9 3Pt, 4-8 FT), 20 rebounds and four assists across 31 minutes during Tuesday's 140-128 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Portis couldn't find his midrange game and somehow got no easy buckets out of five offensive rebounds, but he canned his threes while dominating the glass. Portis is an X-factor in Milwaukee's offense.
Mar 30, 2023
Notches double-double off bench
Portis notched 12 points (5-14 FG, 2-6 3Pt) and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes during Thursday's 140-99 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Portis provided a spark off the bench Thursday for the Bucks, finishing as one of three players in double figures in scoring while posting a team-high rebound mark in a double-double performance. Portis has secured a double-double in two of his last three appearances.
Mar 29, 2023
Double-figures in return to bench
Portis closed Wednesday's 149-136 win over the Pacers with 12 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and eight rebounds over 23 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis returned to the second unit with Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo returning to the starting five, finishing with bench-leading scoring and rebound totals while finishing two boards shy of a double-double. Portis has tallied at least 10 points and five rebounds in four of his last five outings.
Mar 29, 2023
Back to bench
Portis isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Even with Khris Middleton (rest) sidelined, Portis is the odd man out with Jrue Holiday and Giannis Antetokounmpo returning to the starting five.
Mar 28, 2023
Big double-double in win
Portis finished Monday's 126-117 win over the Pistons with 21 points (7-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists and one block in 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
After coming off the bench the last four games, Portis returned to the starting five and delivered his 35th double-double of the season. In fact, the 28-year-old has double-doubles in four of his five starts in March, and he missed the fifth by a single rebound. If Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) misses additional time, Portis figures to be one of the biggest beneficiaries.
Mar 27, 2023
Starting Monday
Portis is starting Monday's contest against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) ruled out, Portis will make his 20th start of the season. The Arkansas product is averaging 16.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists over 30.6 minutes per game across his 19 appearances as a starter this year.
Mar 25, 2023
Pulls down eight boards in win
Portis tallied five points (2-9 FG, 0-4 3PT, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, and two assists across 22 minutes in Friday's 144-116 victory over the Jazz
ANALYSIS
Portis struggled with his shot in this one, but managed to stay active on the boards. It was just his second single-digit scoring effort in his last nine games. All-in-all, the big-man has averaged 11.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.1 triples across 24.1 minutes in March.
Mar 23, 2023
Comes off bench for double-double
Portis chipped in 19 points (7-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 2-8 FT), 10 rebounds and one steal in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 130-94 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Portis struggled to get going early, going just 2-of-8 from the floor for seven points in the first half while adding only two rebounds. He turned things around after the break, however, knocking down five of six field-goal attempts for 12 points to go along with eight boards and a steal. The Bucks' forward finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds on the night to notch his fourth double-double this month. The one blemish on the night for Portis came at the free-throw line, where he went just 2-of-8 and he's now shooting a season-low 62.5 percent from the charity stripe in March.
Mar 19, 2023
Retreats to bench Sunday
Portis isn't starting Sunday against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Portis drew the start Thursday against the Pacers and posted 16 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in 33 minutes. However, he'll retreat to the bench with Brook Lopez back in action Sunday.
Mar 17, 2023
Near double-double as starter
Portis closed with 16 points (6-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds and two blocks over 33 minutes during Thursday's 139-123 loss to the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis was back in the starting lineup with Brook Lopez (ankle) sidelined and nearly posted another double-double. Across 19 starts this season, Portis has averaged 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds in 30.6 minutes. However, as a reserve (40 games), he's posted 12.3 points and 9.0 rebounds in 23.7 minutes.
Mar 16, 2023
Starting Thursday
Portis will join the first five for Thursday's matchup with the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis will step into the starting center spot in place of Brook Lopez (ankle) alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo in the frontcourt. Portis has double-doubled in each of his last three starts, averaging 19.7 points and 12.3 rebounds on 61.5 percent shooting from the field in that span.
Mar 14, 2023
Limited in bench role
Portis produced three points (1-1 FG, 1-2 FT) and three rebounds over 19 minutes during Monday's 133-124 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
The return of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the impressive play of Robin Lopez has forced Portis to adapt to a lesser role off the bench, and he struggled to make an impact in this game despite playing close to 20 minutes. Portis is averaging just 4.2 points per game in his last five games off the bench, and his fantasy value will continue to plummet if he can't bounce back from that negative run soon.
Mar 13, 2023
Back in bench role
Portis will come off the bench Monday night against the Kings, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis fared well in three straight starts while Giannis Antetokounmpo recovered from a hand injury, but he'll return to his usual bench role with Antetokounmpo back in action Monday night. Portis hasn't had a big role on the offensive end as a reserve of late, as he's been held to seven points or fewer in his last four matchups off the bench.
Mar 12, 2023
Notches another double-double
Portis logged 15 points (5-11 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 13 rebounds and two assists over 32 minutes during Saturday's 125-116 overtime loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Portis has started three straight games in the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (hand), and he has posted a double-double in each of those contests. The veteran had been struggling mightily prior to entering the starting five, averaging just 4.5 points on 31.8 percent shooting over his previous four contests. It's clear that Portis is most valuable as a fantasy asset when he's starting -- he's averaging 16.8 points and 10.9 boards in that role this season versus 12.6 points and 9.3 rebounds as a reserve -- but he'll likely return to the bench when Antetokounmpo is able to return.
Mar 10, 2023
Records double-double in win
Portis finished Thursday's 118-113 victory over Brooklyn with 28 points (11-15 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 13 rebounds and two assists in 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis started for the second game in a row with Giannis Antetokounmpo (illness) sidelined and posted a second consecutive double-double, showing efficiency from the field and energy on the glass. Portis will remain a valuable fantasy asset for as long as he remains in the starting lineup, and that could be the case again Saturday at Golden State. That will depend on Antetokounmpo's recovery, though.
Mar 7, 2023
Top rebounder in starting lineup
Portis racked up 16 points (8-13 FG, 0-3 3Pt), 11 rebounds and one assist in 31 minutes during Tuesday's 134-123 victory over Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Portis led all players in Tuesday's game in rebounds, posting a double-double performance while getting the start due to the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (illness). Portis has recorded at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in 31 games this year.
Mar 7, 2023
Enters starting five Tuesday
Portis will start Tuesday's game versus the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Potis gets another look with the starting unit in the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (illness), who will sit out Tuesday's affair. Portis should see a corresponding minutes increase as a result, though it's just temporary until Antetokounmpo is ready to rejoin the action.
Mar 2, 2023
Struggles despite victory
Portis supplied zero points (0-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal over 17 minutes during Wednesday's 139-117 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis failed to score for the first time this season. The 27-year-old big man also played his second-lowest minutes of the campaign in Wednesday's blowout win.
Feb 28, 2023
Returns to bench
Portis is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old delivered 10 points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds and one block in 21 minutes as a spot starter Sunday against Houston, but he'll shift back to the bench Tuesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo (quadriceps) rejoining the lineup. Portis has averaged 13.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 24.8 minutes across his 33 appearances off the bench this season.
Feb 26, 2023
Reaches double figures in start
Portis racked up 10 points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds and one block in 21 minutes during Sunday's 104-101 win over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Portis got the start in place of the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo (quad), finishing as one of four Bucks in double figures while finishing four rebounds shy of a double-double. Portis has recorded 10 or more points with five or more rebounds in nine of his last 10 games.
Feb 26, 2023
Will start Sunday
Portis will start Sunday's matchup versus the Suns, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (quad) out, Portis will slide into the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 21. Across 14 appearances as a starter, Portis has averaged 16.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 31.1 minutes and should play a prominent role versus Phoenix.
Feb 24, 2023
Double-doubles in return
Portis notched 18 points (7-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 11 rebounds and one assist across 22 minutes during Friday's 128-99 win over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Portis played just 22 minutes off the bench but still came through with the goods for fantasy managers. Despite being his first game back, he delivered plenty of energy and emotion, ending with his 30th double-double of the season. While he is likely to be eased back into things, the fact Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) only lasted six minutes could work in Portis's favor. Make sure he is not floating around on a waiver wire somewhere as a result of an impatient manager making an ill-informed decision.
Feb 23, 2023
Not on Friday's injury report
Portis (knee) isn't on the injury report for Friday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Portis was expected to return to action Friday after participating fully in practice recently, and he's officially been cleared to suit up as the Bucks resume play following the All-Star break. It's possible he faces a minutes restriction against Miami, and the Bucks also acquired Jae Crowder recently, who should share some of the work in the frontcourt.
Feb 22, 2023
Expected to play Friday
Portis (knee) logged a full practice Wednesday and should be expected to play in Friday's game against the Heat, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed the Bucks' final 11 games before the All-Star break with a sprained right knee but is slated to return to the hardwood for Friday's tilt. With Jae Crowder's addition, Portis may see less run at power forward and instead play more center. Regardless, Portis should remain the top option off the bench for Milwaukee, a role in which he has averaged 13.5 points and 9.7 rebounds across 24.9 minutes per game this season.
Feb 15, 2023
Will remain out through break
Portis (knee) will not play Thursday at Chicago, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been ramping up over the last few days, and he was able to go through parts of practice on Monday, but it never seemed all that realistic that he'd be back on the floor before the All-Star break. The Bucks will give Portis the extra week-plus to continue rehabbing before hopefully returning to action when they resume play on Friday, Feb. 24 against Miami.
Feb 13, 2023
Still not ready for game action
Portis (knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday's matchup against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss a 10th straight game due to an MCL sprain. The veteran forward participated in parts of Monday's practice and appears to be making good progress, but it's looking like he'll remain sidelined through the All-Star break.
Feb 13, 2023
Another step forward
Head coach Mike Budenholzer said Portis (knee) participated in some of Monday's practice, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed his ninth straight game last Friday due to a right MCL sprain, and it's possible he remains sidelined for Milwaukee's final two contests before the All-Star break, though he's certainly trending in the right direction as Budenholzer added that his participation was "another good step." Portis' status for Tuesday's matchup against Boston should surface sometime Monday night, but even if he's cleared, he'd presumably operate in a limited capacity off the bench.
Feb 10, 2023
Remains sidelined against Clippers
Portis (knee) is out for Friday's game versus the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss his ninth straight game Friday due to a right MCL sprain. Pat Connaughton and Wesley Matthews have seen extended minutes while he's been out. Tuesday's matchup with Boston is Portis' next chance to suit up, but there has been no update on his return timeline past his two-week expected absence.
Jan 25, 2023
Expected to miss at least two weeks
Portis (knee) is expected to miss at least two weeks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis sustained a right MCL sprain during Monday's game against the Pistons and is facing a multi-week absence before being re-evaluated in early February. During Portis' absence, Jordan Nwora, Joe Ingles and Pat Connaughton are candidates to see increased run for Milwaukee.
Jan 25, 2023
Dealing with sprained MCL
Portis has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and is expected to miss time, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While a firm timetable for Portis' return isn't yet clear, his impending absence is discouraging for the Bucks, who recently got Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton back from injury-related absences of their own. Portis sustained his injury Monday against Detroit and was already ruled out Wednesday against the Nuggets. He's been in the midst of one of the best years of his career, as he averaged 14.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26.5 minutes per game over his first 47 appearances of the season.
Jan 24, 2023
Not playing Wednesday
Portis has been ruled out of Wednesday's game against the Nuggets due to a right knee sprain, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis left Monday's contest against the Pistons with what was initially described as right knee soreness, but the injury turned out to be more severe than that, and he's already been ruled out of the team's upcoming game. Portis moved back to the bench against Detroit with the return of Giannis Antetokounmpo and is expected to remain in that role moving forward, meaning his absence will open up second-unit minutes for names such as Jordan Nwora, Joe Ingles and Pat Connaughton.
Jan 23, 2023
Exits without return
Portis exited without return during Monday's contest against the Pistons due to right knee soreness, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis had recorded 18 points (8-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt), 10 rebounds, three assists and one steal over 23 minutes before exiting Monday's matchup against the Pistons. Milwaukee's next contest comes Wednesday against the Nuggets.
Jan 23, 2023
Returns to bench
Portis will not start in Monday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis will return to the second unit with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) back in action. With Khris Middleton (knee) also available off the bench, Portis will likely be forced to share the ball more than usual and could see a minute or two less than usual. In his last five appearances as a starter, Portis has averaged 16.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 31.7 minutes.
Jan 22, 2023
Delivers double-double Saturday
Portis totaled 23 points (9-16 FG, 5-8 3Pt), 11 rebounds and one assist in 31 minutes during Saturday's 114-102 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Portis was efficient from the field and notched a double-double for the third straight game -- and for the eighth time in 11 appearances this month. The veteran forward has been starting of late with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) sidelined and has thrived in the role, averaging 16.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest since jumping to the starting unit.

Portis chipped in 12 points (5-12 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds and one assist across 35 minutes during Tuesday's 130-122 victory over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Portis posted yet another double-double while leading the Bucks in rebounds during Tuesday's victory, his second straight double-double performance. Portis has tallied at least 10 points and 10 boards in 22 games this season.
Jan 16, 2023
Double-double performance in win
Portis logged 21 points (7-16 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes during Monday's 132-119 victory over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis finished second on the team in scoring while leading in rebounds, notching his second double-double in the last five games. Portis has tallied at least 20 points and 10 boards on seven occasions this season.
Jan 16, 2023
Good to go Monday
Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer said Portis (quadriceps) will play in Monday's game against the Pacers, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis had been listed as probable heading into the day with a right quadriceps contusion, so he never appeared at risk of sitting out the Bucks' Martin Luther King, Jr. Day game. However, his appearance on the injury report to begin the Bucks' three-game week suggests that Portis may be a candidate to sit the second half of a back-to-back set Tuesday against the Raptors, though Budenholzer hasn't clarified his plans. At least for Monday's contest, Portis looks as though he'll be in line for a third consecutive start in the frontcourt while Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) remains sidelined.
Jan 15, 2023
On injury report for Monday
Portis is listed as probable for Monday's game against the Pacers with a right quadriceps contusion.
ANALYSIS
The bruised quad is unlikely to keep Portis from playing Monday, but he'll presumably move back to the bench after he picked up his second straight start in Saturday's 111-95 loss to the Heat. Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) missed the past two games but is listed as probable for Monday's contest and is thus on track to reclaim his starting role in the frontcourt alongside Brook Lopez. Portis should still see a healthy amount of playing time as the first big man off the bench.
Jan 14, 2023
Leading scorer in loss
Portis accumulated 15 points (4-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and three steals in 27 minutes during Saturday's 111-95 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) and Khris Middleton (knee) both out, the Bucks tried to rely on a balanced offense and had all five starters score in double digits, but Portis' 15 was the most any of them could manage. It's his 10th straight game with 10 or more points, and the veteran forward is averaging 16.1 points, 9.9 boards, 1.5 assists, 1.4 threes and 1.2 steals over that stretch.
Jan 12, 2023
Enters starting five
Portis is starting Thursday's game against Miami.
ANALYSIS
Portis will get a shot with the first unit while Giannis Antetokounmpo gets time to recover from a sore knee. The Arkansas product's last start dates back to Jan. 1 against the Wizards, when he put up 19 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 30 minutes of action.
Jan 12, 2023
Another 10 boards off bench
Portis supplied 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt), 10 rebounds and one assist in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 114-105 win over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Portis led all players in the second quarter with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field while adding six boards. He basically disappeared in the second half, however, adding just two more points on 1-of-2 shooting to go along with one rebound and one assist. Despite the lackluster performance over the final two quarters, Portis still managed to notch his seventh double-double in his last eight games and has also scored in double figures in eight straight.
Jan 4, 2023
Secures another double-double
Portis had 17 points (7-13 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 13 rebounds, four assists and two steals across 28 minutes during Tuesday's 123-113 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis cruised to his fourth straight double-double by shooting the basketball well and by cleaning up on the defensive glass, where he secured 10 of his 13 boards. The Arkansas product continues to serve as an impact player for Milwaukee, primarily off the bench. He's averaging 15.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in his last six games.
Jan 2, 2023
Double-doubles in spot start
Portis had 19 points (6-16 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal in 30 minutes during Sunday's 118-95 loss to the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis moved into the starting lineup Sunday, compiling his third straight double-double. A top-70 player on the season, Portis continues to benefit whenever the Bucks are shorthanded, something that is becoming a regular occurrence in Milwaukee. If the team ever gets healthy, his value would likely take a hit but until then, managers should just keep rolling him out there with confidence.
Jan 1, 2023
Starting against Wizards
Portis is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis jumps into the starting lineup with Giannis Antetokounmpo ruled out due to a knee injury, but he shouldn't have issues adjusting to the role. He's averaging 16.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game across eight starts this season, racking up six double-doubles in that span as well.
Dec 29, 2022
Returns to form vs. Chicago
Portis closed Wednesday's 119-113 overtime loss to the Bulls with 20 points (7-18 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 11 rebounds and one assist in 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis scored a season-low four points Sunday against the Celtics, but he responded with a 20-point night in Wednesday's loss. He notched his seventh double-double of December by crashing the boards, and he also tied his top mark of the season with three made triples, a number he's hit two other times this year.
Dec 20, 2022
Season-low output versus Pelicans
Portis closed Monday's 128-119 victory over New Orleans with four points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis had fallen below double digits in the scoring column just three times previously this season and hadn't scored fewer than seven points in a game, but Monday's effort bottomed out his typical floor. Even so, Portis remains a consistent member of the rotation, so it's better to consider this one a deviation from the norm. Portis checks in just outside the top 100 in per-game and per-36 fantasy points production and certainly would warrant a longer look should Giannis Antetokounmpo or Brook Lopez miss any extended time.
Dec 17, 2022
Double-doubles as starter
Portis supplied 22 points (9-16 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds and one assist across 30 minutes during Saturday's 123-97 win over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Portis got the start due to the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), and he made the most of the opportunity. The veteran forward has looked impressive regardless of his role, as he's played both as a starter and off the bench, and should remain a valuable piece for the Bucks going forward. It wouldn't be shocking if he remains in the starting lineup when the Bucks take on the Pelicans on Monday, though that will depend almost entirely on whether Antetokoummpo recovers in time to play or not. Portis has 17 double-doubles on the season.
Dec 17, 2022
Starting against Utah
Portis is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Portis will jump into the lineup with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) sidelined. He's made seven starts this season and is averaging 15.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in that span.
Dec 14, 2022
Delivers 25 points in win
Portis provided 25 points (11-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds and one block across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 128-111 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Portis was locked in from the field in this one, knocking down 73.3 percent of his looks. He also secured his second straight double-double with the help of 11 rebounds, seven coming on the defensive end of the court. Portis continues to serve as a valuable piece of the puzzle for Milwaukee, averaging 16.0 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists through six matchups in December.
Dec 5, 2022
Another double-double performance
Portis had 18 points (8-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and one block in 27 minutes during Monday's 109-102 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis finished second on the Bucks in scoring and rebounding, tallying his fourth double-double over the last five games. Portis has scored 15 or more points with 10 or more rebounds on seven occasions this season.
Dec 3, 2022
Team-high 20 points in win
Portis ended with 20 points (9-18 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds and seven assists across 31 minutes during Saturday's 105-96 win over Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Portis provided the spark early for the Bucks with 11 first-quarter points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. He added another nine points in the second half to go along with four rebounds and three assists as Milwaukee managed to pull out the win on the road despite missing most of its starting lineup. It was Portis' third time reaching 20-point mark this season while he also recorded a season-high seven assists in the contest.
Dec 3, 2022
Starting Friday
Portis will enter the starting five for Friday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis is set to see a massive workload with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), Khris Middleton (conditioning), MarJon Beauchamp (illness) and Serge Ibaka (illness) sitting out, making him an incredibly appealing option in all fantasy formats. In five starts this season, Portis has averaged 14.4 points and 12.8 rebounds across 31.6 minutes.
Dec 3, 2022
Continues double-double streak
Portis contributed 15 points (7-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt), 10 rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes during Friday's 133-129 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Portis has now registered a double-double in each of his last three games, shooting 51.4 percent from the field over this brief stretch. The forward has come off the bench in six straight matchups, but he continues to log substantial minutes (25.5) as one of Milwaukee's most valuable bench players.
Dec 1, 2022
Second straight double-double
Portis provided 10 points (4-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds and three assists over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 109-103 victory over New York.
ANALYSIS
Portis came off the bench on Wednesday and wasted no time in establishing himself on the boards with five first-quarter rebounds, three of which came on the offensive end to help Milwaukee take the lead heading into the second period. The Bucks forward grabbed eight rebounds in the first half and another four over the final two quarters, to go along with 10 points on the night on 4-of-10 shooting from the field. Portis has now recorded a double-double in back-to-back games and has 12 of them on the season.
Nov 21, 2022
Lifts bench in all-around performance
Portis posted 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists and one block over 24 minutes during Monday's 119-111 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Portis once again led the Bucks bench while leading the second unit in scoring, rebounds and minutes played. Portis has reached double-figures in 14 of 15 games, averaging 13.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists this year.
Nov 21, 2022
Moves to bench
Portis will come off the bench Monday against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Portis will shift to a bench role with Grayson Allen (ankle) gaining clearance to play. The veteran forward has performed well in both starting and bench roles so far this season, averaging 14.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists over his last 10 contests (five starts).
Nov 19, 2022
Extends double-double streak
Portis produced 21 points (9-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt), 11 rebounds, three assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Friday's 110-102 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Portis has started four of Milwaukee's last five games and continues to display his value as an elite two-way threat. The veteran big man has notched four straight double-doubles and has also reached that mark in six of his last seven appearances regardless of his role. One of the best players for Milwaukee in the last three weeks, Portis is averaging 13.9 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game across nine November appearances.
Nov 17, 2022
Continues double-double tear
Portis recorded 10 points (4-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal in 30 minutes during Thursday's 113-98 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Portis had his third-straight double-double Wednesday and his ninth in 14 games this season. Portis is averaging 13.1 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 26.6 minutes in 2022-23.
Nov 16, 2022
Set to start Wednesday
Portis is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Cavaliers, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will start alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez to make a large starting lineup. Portis will likely move back to the bench when any of Khris Middleton (wrist), Grayson Allen (ankle) or Jrue Holiday (ankle) return.
Nov 15, 2022
Secures double-double off bench
Portis registered 14 points (6-15 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds and two assists across 23 minutes during Monday's 121-106 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo back in action, Portis returned to the bench following a two-game stint in the starting lineup. He saw his playing time drop to 23 minutes, but the veteran still managed to log his fourth double-double across his past five contests. Portis continues to be a valuable asset whether coming off the bench or starting, as he's posting per-game averages of 13.4 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.2 three-pointers and 0.4 steals over 26.4 minutes.
Nov 14, 2022
Coming off bench
Portis isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Lauren L. Williams of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has started three of Milwaukee's last four contests while the Bucks dealt with injuries to Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) and Grayson Allen (illness), but he'll come off the bench Monday with the first unit returning to health. Portis made the most of his starting opportunities, securing double-doubles in two of his three starts.
Nov 12, 2022
Another double-double
Portis amassed 16 points (6-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 31 minutes during Friday's 111-93 loss to the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Portis started for the third time in Milwaukee's last four games, a role he had on a consistent basis last season, and he has looked quite productive with the uptick in minutes. Over that four-game stretch, Portis has three double-doubles and is averaging 13.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per contest. In fact, the veteran big man has produced well even when coming off the bench, and he has seven double-doubles in 12 contests to date.
Nov 9, 2022
Will start Wednesday
Portis is in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Portis gets the starting nod Wednesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) out. Portis posted a double-double with 12 points and 21 rebounds in his only start last Saturday against the Thunder.
Nov 8, 2022
Posts double-double off bench
Portis amassed 11 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and two assists across 23 minutes during Monday's 117-98 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Portis followed up a 12-points, 21-rebound outing Saturday with another double-double in a losing effort Monday against Atlanta. Portis finished with a team-high in minutes played off the bench while leading the Bucks in rebounds. The forward has notched a double-double in six games so far this season.
Nov 7, 2022
Back in bench role
Portis will come off the bench in Monday's game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Portis drew the start Saturday against Oklahoma City in the power forward spot with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) ruled out, but he'll return to his usual bench role with Antetokounmpo back in action Monday evening. Portis is averaging 13.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in eight games off the bench this season.
Nov 6, 2022
Massive effort rebounding
Portis posted 12 points (5-15 FG, 2-5 3Pt), 21 rebounds and two assists over 29 minutes during Saturday's 108-94 victory over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Portis started for the first time this season, and while he only cracked the starting unit due to the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), he made the most of his minutes -- he posted a season-high mark in rebounds and also recorded his fourth straight game with 10 or more points. The veteran big man continues to produce regardless of his role, and he remains a solid fantasy asset in most formats.
Nov 5, 2022
Sniffs double-double off bench
Portis closed Friday's 115-102 win over Minnesota with 18 points (7-14 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds and five assists across 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis recorded four double-doubles across his first six contests, and while he hasn't been able to achieve that feat in each of the last two games, the veteran big man has ended just one point and/or no more than two rebounds short of reaching that mark in the other contests. One of the best two-way threats in the league, Portis has settled well into a bench role despite being a regular starter in 2021-22 and is averaging 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game so far.
Nov 3, 2022
Comes close to double-double
Portis contributed 10 points (5-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt), nine rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 116-91 victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been forced to settle into a bench role after being a starter for most of last season. but he's done a good job in that role. Even though he ended just one rebound away from posting a double-double, the veteran big man has recorded that feat in four of his first seven contests. While the bench role conspires against his upside, Portis should remain a valuable fantasy alternative in most formats even if he's not playing as many minutes as he was last season.
Oct 31, 2022
Double-doubles in win
Portis amassed 15 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-3 FT), 12 rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes during Monday's 110-108 win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Portis notched his fourth double-double of the season, continuing what has been a decent start. Despite the strong play of Brook Lopez, Portis has still been able to carve out a meaningful role off the bench, putting up top-75 value in the process. The return of Khris Middleton is likely to impact his playing time, making this a potential sell-high opportunity.
Oct 26, 2022
Double-double off bench
Portis logged 20 points (8-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 26 minutes during Wednesday's 110-99 win over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Portis scored 16 points in the first half in 14 minutes. He took only three shots in the second half but pulled down five boards and added a blocked shot. It was his best performance of the season and his 26 minutes played were his most of the year. He's off to a strong start, averaging 14.7 points and 9.7 rebounds while making 55.9 percent of his shots and 45.5 percent of his tries from beyond the arc.
Oct 20, 2022
Double-double in opener
Portis racked up 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-4 3Pt) and 10 rebounds across 23 minutes during Thursday's 90-88 win over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Portis did most of his damage in the third quarter, scoring nine points and grabbing six boards in seven minutes while making four of his six shot attempts. The 27-year-old started 59 contests for the Bucks last season while Brook Lopez was out with a back injury but it looks like he'll return to a reserve role for Milwaukee this year. He's a career 38.3 percent shooter from three-point range and is capable of providing significant offensive value off the bench, as he did in the third quarter Thursday.
Oct 20, 2022
Coming off bench Thursday
Portis will come off the bench in the Bucks' season opener against the 76ers, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis started in 59 of the Bucks' regular season games last year mostly due to Brook Lopez's long-term injury. This season, the 27-year-old will begin Milwaukee's opening game of the season on the bench as Brook Lopez will start. Expect Portis to still see plenty of action against Philadephia.
Oct 8, 2022
Scores 15 points in loss Saturdday
Portis closed with 15 points (7-14 FG, 1-4 3Pt) and five rebounds in 20 minutes during Saturday's 118-109 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Portis did his thing on the offensive end as the Bucks opted to go with a different look. While he is slated to come off the bench behind Brook Lopez, Portis still has the ability to put up fantasy-worthy numbers even in limited minutes. His value is tied to points and rebounds which does cap his overall upside. With that being said, he remains an option for managers in need of a cheap center late in drafts.
Jun 30, 2022
Returning to Bucks on four-year deal
Portis and the Bucks agreed to terms Thursday on a four-year, $49 million contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After taking a discount to stick with the Bucks this past season, Portis will cash in and get a longer-term commitment from one of the best teams in the East. The 2015 first-round pick has developed into a fan-favorite, and he's coming off of the best statistical season of his career. Filling in for Brook Lopez for much of the regular season, Portis averaged 14.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks per game while shooting 39.3 percent from three -- down from a league-best 47.1 percent in 2020-21.
Jun 29, 2022
Declines player option
Portis declined his $4.6 million player option Wednesday and became a free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis saw a significant increase in role last season with Milwaukee as Brook Lopez missed much of the season. In 28.2 minutes per game, Portis averaged 14.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists. It would be surprising if he didn't have other suitors, but there's been no indication that either he or the Bucks wants to end his tenure. According to Bobby Marks of ESPN.com, the maximum that Portis can sign for with Milwaukee is four years, $49 million.
May 11, 2022
Huge impact in win
Portis amassed 14 points (4-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists and one steal over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 110-107 win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
While no Boston player collected more than eight rebounds, Portis had seven offensive rebounds alone. Portis was the catalyst in Milwaukee winning the rebounding battle and second-chance points were the difference in the game. Portis saw a reduced role in Game 4, but he returned to a healthy workload Wednesday and can be expected to on Friday as well.
May 7, 2022
Moves to bench for Game 3
Portis will come off the bench for Saturday's Game 3 against the Celtics, Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Budenholzer will switch things up in Game 3 with the series tied 1-1, going with Grayson Allen in the starting lineup over Portis, who has been in the lineup since Khris Middleton (knee) got injured. Portis still figures to have a significant role, and it would be relatively surprising if he saw fewer than 20 minutes. In the playoffs, he's averaged 12.3 points and 10.9 rebounds in 25.3 minutes.
May 4, 2022
Near double-double in loss
Portis finished with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-3 FT) and eight rebounds in a 109-86 loss to Boston on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Portis has reached double-digit points in each of his last five games including six of his last seven. The veteran center is up to 14.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game on 60.7 percent shooting from the field through the first two games of the series.
May 1, 2022
Double-doubles in Game 1 win
Portis finished Sunday's 101-89 win over the Celtics with 15 points (6-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis has registered a double-double in four straight games and five times over the Bucks' six playoff contests so far. The Bucks will likely continue to start Portis as long as Khris Middleton (knee) remains sidelined, so it doesn't appear like the seventh-year forward's production will be limited any time soon.
Apr 28, 2022
Diesel from BP
Portis totaled 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-7 3Pt), 17 rebounds and one assist across 32 minutes during Wednesday's 116-100 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis was a menace on the glass Wednesday, logging a season-high 17 rebounds. A third-straight double-double for Portis, he's outperformed Brook Lopez in recent nights. The reintroducing of Lopez to Milwaukee's rotation threw off Portis' production, but it seems a rebalancing has begun taking hold. Portis could be heavily utilized in a switch-oriented, second-round matchup against Boston.
Apr 23, 2022
Impressive double-double
Portis totaled 18 points (7-14 FG, 4-8 3Pt) and 16 rebounds across 25 minutes during Friday's 111-81 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis started at small forward with Khris Middleton (knee) out, and he provided size and strength on both ends of the court. He's capable of playing in either position of the frontcourt and poses a huge mismatch on offense, something he took advantage of by pouring 18 points. The 18-point output was his best offensive showing since April 1 when he scored 25 points against the Lakers, a game that also happened to be his previous start.
Apr 22, 2022
Starting Game 3
Portis will start at small forward in Friday's Game 3 against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
With Khris Middleton (knee) sidelined, the Bucks will opt to go big by starting Portis at small forward alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez in the frontcourt. He is expected to be wearing goggles due to an eye injury that knocked him out of Game 2.
Apr 21, 2022
Not on injury report
Portis (eye) isn't on the injury report for Friday's Game 3 against Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Portis exited Wednesday's loss to Chicago in the first quarter due to a right eye abrasion but should be back in the lineup for Game 3. The 27-year-old averaged 6.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in 14.5 minutes per game in his first two postseason appearances this year.
Apr 21, 2022
Exits with eye abrasion
Portis left Wednesday's 114-110 loss to Chicago after the first quarter and was subsequently diagnosed with a right eye abrasion. He contributed two points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and two rebounds in six minutes.
ANALYSIS
Portis' early departure was one of two injury blows suffered by the Bucks in the contest; the other was Khris Middleton's exit in the fourth quarter due to a right MCL sprain. Per Scott Grodsky of CBS 58, coach Mike Budenholzer is optimistic about Portis' status moving forward, stating after the game that "he should be good." Portis could be called upon to fill some of the void in the likely scenario that Middleton is forced to miss time with his injury.
Apr 20, 2022
Says he'll play Wednesday
Portis (calf) says he'll play in Wednesday's Game 3 against the Bulls, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis said, "no little injury like that is going to stop me from hooping. Never." The backup big man posted 10 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block across 23 minutes during Sunday's 93-86 Game 1 victory. He figures to garner a similar role in Game 2.
Apr 19, 2022
Probable for Game 2
Portis is probable for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Bulls due to a bruised right calf.
ANALYSIS
Portis shouldn't have any issues playing through the injury. During Sunday's 93-86 Game 1 victory, he posted 10 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 23 minutes.
Apr 17, 2022
Double-double in Game 1 win
Portis closed with 10 points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 23 minutes during Sunday's 93-86 victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis came off the bench and helped push Milwaukee to a victory after blowing a double-digit lead early on. As long as he's healthy, the big man will continue to serve as the Bucks' first big man off the bench behind Brook Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Veteran Serge Ibaka, who Milwaukee picked up at the deadline, was essentially dropped from the rotation when Lopez returned from back surgery in mid-March.
Apr 10, 2022
Won't play Sunday
Portis (shoulder) will not play in Sunday's regular season finale against Cleveland, Evan Dammarell of Locked On Cavs reports.
ANALYSIS
This amounts to a rest day for Portis, as the Bucks are apparently very much amenable to the prospects of falling to the No. 3 spot in the Eastern Conference. Expect Portis to return to action when the Bucks begin Round 1 play next weekend.
Apr 9, 2022
Doubtful at Cleveland
Portis is unlikely to play Sunday against the Cavaliers due to left shoulder soreness.
ANALYSIS
Portis and many of the other Bucks' key players aren't expected to see the floor during the regular-season finale. Fantasy managers should expect a rotation of bench options and young players.
Apr 9, 2022
Grabs 15 boards
Portis recorded 8 points (4-13 FG) and 15 rebounds in the 131-101 win over Detroit on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Portis couldn't get many of his shots to fall but pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. The veteran center seems to have picked things up after averaging 10.0 points per game in March. The Arkansas product is up to 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on 58.2 percent shooting from the field and 38.9 percent from deep in April.
Apr 8, 2022
Scores 17 points off bench
Portis provided 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-4 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal in 27 minutes during Thursday's 127-121 victory over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Portis was efficient from the field en route to his fourth straight game in double figures. During that stretch, the seventh-year big man has averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 25.5 minutes per game.
Apr 3, 2022
Turns in 17/8 line in win
Portis accumulated 17 points (7-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt), eight rebounds and one steal over 23 minutes during Sunday's 118-112 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Although the return of Brook Lopez was expected to curb Portis' production, we've actually seen both players together on the floor recently, especially when Giannis Antetokounmpo takes a break. The result is a pretty imposing frontcourt for opponents, and even though Portis only registered 23 points, one should expect productive nights from him in the playoffs, where he shined with clutch play last season.
Apr 3, 2022
Shifts back to bench
Portis will come off the bench Sunday against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Portis put up 25 points in a spot start Friday with Milwaukee resting its entire lineup, and Brook Lopez will reclaim the starting spot at center Sunday. Portis averaged 7.2 points and 9.2 rebounds in 23.2 minutes in the five games prior to Friday's 25-point effort.
Apr 2, 2022
Goes for 25 points in loss
Portis ended Friday's 153-119 loss to the Clippers with 25 points (12-20 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and one steal in 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks rested most of their regulars and that allowed Portis the chance to see an extended run -- an opportunity the big man didn't disappoint. He moved to a bench role with Brook Lopez taking over the starting job at center over the last two weeks or so, but Portis can still get it done when called upon. For what it's worth, he has averaged 15.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as a starter this season.
Apr 1, 2022
Starting Friday
Portis is starting at center for Friday's matchup with the Clippers, Mirjam Swanson of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks are resting their regular starters on the second night of a back-to-back set. As a result, Portis figures to see heavy minutes and plenty of involvement on offense.
Mar 24, 2022
Double-doubles in start Thursday
Portis registered 11 points (5-11 FG, 1-1 3Pt), 12 rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes during Thursday's 114-102 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis moved back into the starting lineup, replacing Giannis Antetokounmpo who was out with a knee injury. The return of Brook Lopez has seemingly put a pin in what had been a breakout season for Portis. Antetokounmpo's injury likely had an element of rest associated with it, meaning Portis could return to the bench as soon as Saturday against the Grizzlies. He can still provide limited value off the bench but given what we have seen the past few games, he is really just a streamer in competitive leagues.
Mar 24, 2022
Will start Thursday
Portis will start Thursday against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis has started in all but six games this season for the Bucks. With Brook Lopez retaking his starting role, Portis will take over Giannis Antetokounmpo's spot in the starting lineup against Washington. Expect Portis to see a large workload Thursday with Khris Middleton (wrist) and Antetokounmpo (knee) both out.
Mar 23, 2022
Modest production off bench
Portis totaled six points (3-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 22 minutes during Tuesday's 126-98 victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Brook Lopez returned to the starting lineup during Giannis Antetokounmpo's recent absence, but with the MVP candidate back, Lopez remained with the starters Tuesday while Portis shifted to a bench role. Portis (22) and Lopez (24) played similar minutes and had similar production, but the ladder is expected to remain the starter for the remainder of the regular season as the Bucks try to ramp him up for a potential playoff run. In the meantime, Portis' workload and usage may take a dip, but he'll still be a key piece of the Bucks' gameplan moving forward.
Mar 22, 2022
Will come off bench
Portis will come off the bench Tuesday against the Bulls, Chuck Swirsky of the Bulls Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Brook Lopez returned to the starting lineup during Giannis Antetokounmpo's recent absence, but he'll end up staying there while Portis shifts back to the bench -- the role he'll presumably occupy for the remainder of the season. Portis' workload and usage may take a slight dip, but he'll still be a key piece of the Bucks' gameplan.
Mar 10, 2022
Continues strong play
Portis provided 23 points (9-17 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 15 rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 32 minutes during Wednesday's 124-115 win over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Portis recorded his second double-double in a row and his fourth over the last seven games. During that stretch, the seventh-year forward has averaged 18.1 points and 10.1 rebounds in 30.6 minutes per game. He'll look to maintain his strong play Saturday against the Warriors.
Mar 9, 2022
Goes for double-double
Portis ended with 18 points (7-11 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals over 28 minutes during Tuesday's 142-115 victory over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Portis was efficient on offense and aside from posting his first double-double of the month -- in four games -- he showed he can still produce on offense despite holding a secondary role in the Bucks' offensive scheme. Portis has scored in double digits in six of his last seven games, and he's averaging 17.3 points with 9.0 rebounds per game in that span.
Mar 3, 2022
Solid under basket in win
Portis supplied 15 points (6-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals across 32 minutes during Wednesday's 120-119 victory over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Although the Bucks have brought in some interior support, it's doubtful that they'll do much to curb Portis' output. Although his rebound numbers regressed slightly, he's regularly seeing more than 30 minutes per game and will remain a solid fantasy candidate.
Mar 1, 2022
Records 20/10 double-double
Portis totaled 20 points (7-14 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and 10 rebounds over 23 minutes during Monday's 130-106 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis rattled off his second consecutive double-double Monday and his fourth double-double over the past five games. Although the recent acquisition of Serge Ibaka is a help to Milwaukee's interior, Portis appears to have a solid foothold with the first unit and will continue to put up respectable numbers at the five.
Feb 27, 2022
Explodes from three-point range
Portis notched 30 points (11-18 FG, 8-14 3Pt, 0-2 FT) and 12 rebounds in 36 minutes during Saturday's 126-123 loss to the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Portis hadn't taken more than eight three-point attempts in any game this season entering this contest, but he rode a hot hand Saturday to set career-high marks with 14 attempts and eight makes from beyond the arc. His 30 points led Milwaukee and tied his campaign-best total. Portis is enjoying his best statistical season to date with career-high per-game marks in points (15.6), rebounds (9.2) and triples (2.0).
Feb 16, 2022
Nabs 14 boards
Portis finished with six points (3-14 FG, 0-5 3Pt), 14 rebounds, three steals and two assists across 28 minutes Tuesday in the Bucks' 128-119 win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
The rough shooting took most of the value out of Portis' stat line, but he at least tied a season high in steals and secured his most rebounds since Jan. 3. Through seven games in February, Portis has averaged 18.3 points (on 53.1 percent shooting from the field), 8.7 boards, 2.6 treys, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals.
Feb 14, 2022
Secures solid final line
Portis finished with 17 points (8-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 0-2 FT), nine rebounds and one block over 32 minutes during Monday's 122-107 loss to Portland.
ANALYSIS
Portis has seemingly fallen back to Earth following a three-game stretch in which he put up 30, 24 and 23 points, as he's since tallied 11 and 17 points in his last two contests. Both Portis and new addition, Serge Ibaka, shouldered similar workloads Monday evening, but once Giannis Antetokounmpo (ankle) returns to action, Portis should continue to have control of the starting center spot.
Feb 9, 2022
Excels with 23 points
Portis logged 23 points (9-18 FG, 5-9 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and two steals across 33 minutes during Tuesday's 131-116 win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Portis' production at the five has been a saving grace for Milwaukee. With Brook Lopez (back) out until late March, Portis has made the most of his opportunity after dazzling as a support player during Milwaukee's playoff run last season.
Feb 6, 2022
Leads Bucks with 30 points
Portis had 30 points (11-13 FG, 6-8 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal in 24 minutes during Saturday's 137-108 victory over Portland.
ANALYSIS
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been Milwaukee's leading scorer on a near-daily basis of late, but Portis outdid his All-Star teammate by one point to take home team-high honors Saturday. The veteran notched his first 30-point effort of the season and tied a campaign high with six three-pointers. For good measure, Portis dished a season-high five dimes in the blowout win.
Feb 2, 2022
Extends three-pointer streak
Portis amassed 17 points (8-14 FG, 1-5 3Pt), seven rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes during Tuesday's 112-98 win over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Considering how good he's been this season, the fact that Portis scored around the 15-point mark while also hovering close to a double-double shouldn't be surprising. However, the big man has been making an impact from deep and has now drained at least one trey in each of his last 10 games -- an impressive streak for a center. He's shooting just 30.4 percent from deep in that span, though, so he can't be trusted in terms of efficiency.
Jan 27, 2022
Impressive despite loss
Portis logged 22 points (10-15 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block over 32 minutes during Wednesday's 115-99 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Portis entered Wednesday in a 7-for-24 slump across two games prior. This can also be extrapolated to a poor 7-for-26 showing from beyond the arc over his past six games. Nonetheless, he's still connecting on 41.4 percent of his 4.5 attempts per game. For the season, Portis is averaging 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, with a fringe top-50 player efficiency rating of 18.39
Jan 15, 2022
Records 15th double-double
Portis registered 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 11 rebounds and three blocks in 34 minutes during Saturday's 103-96 loss to Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been a valuable piece of Milwaukee's starting five, but Jrue Holiday's )ankle) extended absence is allowing the veteran to display his versatility and floor-stretching ability. Although he sometimes has trouble matching a good rebounding total with a solid shooting night, both categories were in sync despite the narrow loss.
Jan 14, 2022
Strong effort against Warriors
Portis posted 20 points (8-16 FG, 4-7 3Pt), seven rebounds, one block and one steal across 25 minutes during Thursday's 118-99 win over Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Portis' biggest highlight of the game came when he drained a three at the half-time buzzer, but the big man had another impressive performance on both ends of the court and once again left his mark on offense. Quickly emerging as Milwaukee's third-best scoring option when Jrue Holiday (ankle) is not available, Portis is averaging 15.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game over his last 10 appearances.
Jan 7, 2022
Records double-double Friday
Portis logged 25 points (9-16 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists and one block across 32 minutes during Friday's 121-109 win over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Portis made his sixth consecutive start in Friday's victory, and he posted his second-highest scoring total of the season while shooting 56.3 percent from the floor. Since reclaiming his starting role, the 26-year-old has averaged 15.3 points and 9.0 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game.
Dec 29, 2021
Catches fire against Magic
Portis tallied 19 points (7-9 FG, 5-5 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one block across 29 minutes Tuesday in the Bucks' 127-110 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks eased Portis back into the mix in a bench role in the Christmas Day win over the Celtics as he returned from a four-game absence due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, but he moved back to the top unit for the start of Milwaukee's three-game week. Rather than doing most of his damage in the paint, Portis lit the Magic up from beyond the arc, falling one three-pointer short of matching a season high. After converting at a 47.1 percent clip from three-point range in his first season in Milwaukee, Portis hasn't taken much of a step back in 2021-22, hitting 42.9 percent of those attempts.
Dec 28, 2021
Rejoins starting lineup
Portis will start Wednesday's game against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis came off the bench in his return from the COVID-19 protocols Saturday and will now reclaim his spot in Milwaukee's starting five. The 26-year-old had 16 points (6-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds and four assists over 22 minutes in that contest and should continue ramping back up to his full workload.
Dec 25, 2021
Plays well in return
Portis posted 16 points (6-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds and four assists over 22 minutes during Saturday's 117-113 victory over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Portis returned from a four-game absence due to protocols, and he picked up right where he left off. He'll likely re-join the starting five sooner than later.
Dec 24, 2021
Removed from protocols
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) is off the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Portis last played Dec. 15 and has been in protocols since. However, he's been cleared just in time for the Christmas Day game. He'll presumably return to the starting lineup.
Dec 16, 2021
Enters protocols
Portis has entered health and safety protocols and is out for Friday's contest against the Pelicans, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
COVID-19-related absences continue to run rampant throughout the league, with over 60 players entering protocols throughout the year. Portis' absence could open up more minutes for DeMarcus Cousins, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Sandro Mamukelashvili.
Dec 16, 2021
Bobby Buckets strikes again
Portis finished with 20 points (8-16 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one steal over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 114-99 victory over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis has remained consistent whether in his bench role or supplanting starters in the lineup. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (COVID-19 protocols) set for a continued absence, Portis is a must-start. Averaging 15.6 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.9 combined steals and blocks per game, Portis has scored at least 10 points in all but two contests this season.
Dec 13, 2021
Double-doubles in victory
Portis finished with 19 points (7-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds and three steals in 29 minutes of action during Sunday's 112-97 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
The veteran forward is starting to really come into his own this season with the Bucks. Portis has now posted a double-double in four out of his last six appearances. The Arkansas product made a bold decision this offseason to return to Milwaukee on a cheaper deal, however, the move seems to be working out beautifully for both sides. Portis is averaging 15.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season -- both would set new career-highs for the 26-year-old.
Dec 11, 2021
Impresses once again
Portis had 21 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 4-6 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, three blocks and two steals across 33 minutes during Friday's 123-114 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Portis has scored in double digits in each of his 18 starts this season, but this was just the fourth time in which he reached the 20-point plateau in that span. Portis has performed well as a starter in absence of Brook Lopez (back) and has given the Bucks a reliable scoring threat near the rim while also complementing Giannis Antetokounmpo on defense. Portis is averaging 16.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game since entering the starting five.
Dec 7, 2021
Another double-double
Portis totaled 10 points (4-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt), 16 rebounds, three assists and one block over 31 minutes during Monday's 112-104 victory over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Portis didn't have a good shooting performance, but he made up for that with another strong rebounding effort that resulted in his third straight double-double. Portis moved into the starting lineup due to Brook Lopez's back injury but has thrived in that new role, posting nine double-doubles across 16 starts and averaging 16.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest in that span.
Dec 3, 2021
Inefficient double-double in loss
Portis totaled 15 points (3-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 8-10 FT), 11 rebounds, one block and one steal across 30 minutes during Thursday's 97-93 loss to the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Portis has cooled down to start December, shooting just 7-for-22 across two games, including 1-of-6 from deep for the sniper. Interestingly, Portis excelled from the free-throw line Thursday, easily exceeding his previous season high of four attempts. Ultimately, Portis is a valuable contributor to the Bucks in any role and has scored double-digit points in 14 straight games.
Nov 25, 2021
Extends sizzling scoring streak
Portis notched 28 points (10-14 FG, 6-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist in 31 minutes during Wednesday's 114-93 victory over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been thriving as a starter in recent weeks and has four straight double-doubles while reaching that feat in six of his last 10 starts. He's also scored in double digits in each one of those games while putting up at least 15 points in four of his last five appearances.
Nov 21, 2021
Another double-double
Portis chipped in 24 points (8-11 FG, 6-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 15 rebounds and one block across 34 minutes during Saturday's 117-108 win over Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Another game, another Portis double-double. The veteran big man has been one of Milwaukee's most pleasant surprises this season and has looked impressive as a starter while Brook Lopez (back) is out. He has four double-doubles in eight starts while shooting an impressive 51.4 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from deep in that span.
Nov 20, 2021
Strong double-double in win
Portis recorded 17 points (5-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist and two steals in 31 minutes during Friday's 96-89 win over Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Portis has started each of Milwaukee's last seven games and has looked impressive in that role, scoring in double digits each time and recording three double-doubles as well. In fact, he has scored 15 or more points in five of his last six games and the 13-rebound output tied his season-high mark. If he was already a strong fantasy asset when coming off the bench, he should be even better now that he's starting on a regular basis.
Nov 13, 2021
Scores 22 in loss
Portis put up a team-high 22 points (10-15 FG, 1-4 3PT, 1-2 FT), six rebounds and two assists in Friday's 122-113 overtime loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
With the Bucks dealing with several injuries, Portis continued his recent hot stretch. He is averaging 17.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks across 32.8 minutes in his previous four games. While these numbers are encouraging, they figure to regress once Khris Middleton (COVID-19), Giannis Antetokounmpo (ankle) and Brook Lopez (back) return to the starting lineup. Still, the fan favorite will continue to have a role as spark plug off the bench once that happens.
Nov 10, 2021
Versatile contributions in win
Portis supplied 19 points (6-14 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal over 35 minutes in a 118-109 win over the 76ers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Portis logged his second consecutive double-double, with four of his rebounds being offensive to boot. Tuesday marked his first game this season knocking down multiple threes. He shot a blistering 47.1 percent from three last season on 2.4 attempts per game, but has only connected on 31.8 through 3.7 attempts thus far. He is an energizer for Milwaukee, but will revert to being a fringe fantasy asset when the Bucks return to health.
Nov 8, 2021
Double-doubles as starter
Portis recorded 13 points (6-17 FG, 1-3 3Pt), 13 rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks across 31 minutes in Sunday's loss to the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis started for the first time this season and didn't disappoint, as he recorded his first double-double of the campaign while also scoring in double digits for the third time over his last four contests. The big man might very well remain in the starting lineup until Brook Lopez (back) is ready to return.
Nov 7, 2021
Set to start Sunday
Portis will start Sunday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
It will be the first start of the season for Portis, who gets the nod over Thanasis Antetokounmpo as the Bucks continue to play without Brook Lopez (back). Portis missed time to begin the season, but he's averaged 11.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 21.7 minutes off the bench over his last three appearances.
Nov 1, 2021
Ends with 15 points Sunday
Portis had 15 points (6-15 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and one assist in 19 minutes during Sunday's 107-95 loss to Utah.
ANALYSIS
Portis was back in the lineup after missing the previous game as part of his ongoing injury management. Despite playing just 19 minutes, he made the most of his time on the floor, hoisting up 15 shot attempts, second only to Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks are without a number of key pieces right now and so if Portis can continue to ramp up over the next few games, he could have a shot at putting up backend 12-team value.
Oct 31, 2021
Will play about 15 minutes again
Portis will play about 15 minutes Sunday versus Utah, per Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
ANALYSIS
The Bucks are giving Portis a playing-time limit since he recently returned from an untimely hamstring injury. He had six points and three rebounds across 15 minutes Wednesday versus Minnesota.
Oct 30, 2021
Available again Sunday
Portis (rest) is available Sunday versus Utah, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Portis (who returned from a hamstring injury Wednesday) is out Saturday to be available during a more difficult Bucks matchup Sunday. He averaged 20.8 game minutes across the 2021-22 NBA season but played 15 versus Minnesota on Wednesday.
Oct 29, 2021
Out Saturday
Portis is out Saturday against the Spurs due to return to competition reconditioning, Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis is still not in real game shape after missing time due to a strained hamstring. In his absence, Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Jordan Nwora should see more minutes.
Oct 27, 2021
Cleared to play
Portis (hamstring) is available Wednesday against the Timberwolves, Scott Grodsky of CBS 58 reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will make his season debut Wednesday after missing time due to a strained hamstring. He's expected to come off the bench, and it wouldn't be surprising to see his minutes limited.
Oct 26, 2021
Should play Wednesday
Portis (hamstring) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has missed the first four games of the season with a strained left hamstring, but he's expected to make his season debut Wednesday. He was a key bench piece for the Bucks' title run last season and averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.8 minutes across 66 games.
Oct 25, 2021
Won't play Monday
Portis (hamstring) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Pacers, Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis was questionable once again heading into Monday's contest, and he'll be unable to make his season debut against Indiana. Pat Connaughton, Jordan Nwora and Thanasis Antetokounmpo should see increased run.
Oct 24, 2021
Back on injury report
Portis (hamstring) is questionable for Monday's contest against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
The veteran forward was initially taken off the Bucks' injury report, but was later listed as questionable for Monday's matchup. If Portis is forced to remain sidelined once again, expect Pat Connaughton, Jordan Nwora and Thanasis Antetokounmpo to be among the Bucks reserves who should continue to see extended run. Milwaukee has already ruled starting center Brook Lopez (back) out of Monday's game, while Jrue Holiday (ankle) is doubtful.
Oct 24, 2021
Not on injury report
Portis (hamstring) isn't on the injury report for Monday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed the first three games of the year with a hamstring injury, but it appears as though he'll be able to make his season debut against Indiana. Brook Lopez (back) will be sidelined once again, so it's possible that Portis could take on a starting role.
Oct 22, 2021
Still out Saturday
Portis (hamstring) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Portis will remain sidelined for a third consecutive game to begin the 2021 campaign. Jordan Nwora and Thanasis Antetokounmpo are in line for increased playing time with Portis and Brook Lopez (back) out.
Oct 20, 2021
Out again Thursday
Portis (hamstring) is out for Thursday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss a second straight game to begin the year. While he remains sidelined, more minutes should be in store for Jordan Nwora and Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Oct 17, 2021
Out vs. Nets
Portis (hamstring) is out Tuesday versus Brooklyn, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Portis' hamstring injury could force the Antetokounmpo brothers (Giannis and Thanasis) to play more minutes than those they usually expect. The Arkansas graduate will try returning Thursday at Miami.
Oct 14, 2021
Out for preseason finale
Portis (hamstring) is out Friday against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Portis missed all of the preseason due to the strained left hamstring. He should tentatively be considered questionable for Tuesday's regular-season opener against the Nets.
Oct 12, 2021
Out again Wednesday
Portis (hamstring) won't play in Wednesday's preseason contest against the Jazz, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis tweaked his hamstring during a scrimmage and has missed all of the Bucks' preseason games. His last chance to suit up before the regular season begins will be Friday against the Mavericks.
Oct 10, 2021
Out Sunday
Portis (hamstring) is out for Sunday's preseason game versus Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Portis' hamstring strain will force him to sit out at least one more preseason game. He will try returning against Utah on Wednesday. Portis' minutes could be utilized between multiple backups, including Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Sandro Mamukelashvili.
Oct 7, 2021
Won't play Friday
Portis (hamstring) won't play in Friday's preseason contest against the Nets, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss the Bucks' second preseason matchup with a left hamstring strain which he suffered during the team's open scrimmage on Sunday. The forward may be able to give it a go Sunday against the Thunder although the Bucks will likely be reluctant to bring him back too early.
Oct 4, 2021
Unavailable Tuesday
Portis (hamstring) won't play in Tuesday's preseason game against Memphis, freelance basketball reporter Kane Pitman reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's team scrimmage, and he'll be held out of the team's preseason opener as a result. He'll be considered day-to-day until more information on the injury becomes available.
Oct 3, 2021
Tweaks hamstring in scrimmage
Portis tweaked his left hamstring during a scrimmage Sunday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis apparently "felt something" in his left hamstring during the 5-on-5, full-contact session and was removed from the scrimmage as a precaution. The forward will likely undergo further evaluation over the next day or two, and it's quite possible his status for Tuesday night's preseason opener could be in jeopardy.

To run it back in Milwaukee
Portis and the Bucks agreed to terms Monday on a two-year, $9 million contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After prioritizing a winning organization over money last offseason, Portis will once again take a pay cut to stay in Milwaukee after helping the Bucks capture the 2021 NBA title. Charania notes that Portis turned down more lucrative deals from Dallas and Miami in order to pursue a Finals repeat. The deal in place includes a player option for the 2022-23 season, so Portis will have a chance to cash in again next summer. The former Arkansas standout carved out a key role off the bench in 2020-21, averaging 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.8 steals while hitting a career-high (by far) 47.1 percent of his three-point attempts (2.4 3PA/G). During the playoffs, Portis emerged as a fan favorite in Milwaukee, and he came up big in Game 6 of the Finals, putting up 16 points (6-10 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and three rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
Jul 31, 2021
Declines player option
Portis declined his player option Saturday, making him an free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis found a role in Milwaukee where he could succeed, and he became one of the more effective sixth men in the NBA. In 20.8 minutes per game, he averaged 11.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He also shot 52.3 percent from the field and made 1.1 threes per game at a deadly 47.1 percent. After demonstrating he could be effective in the postseason as well, Portis figures to have a fair amount of suitors in free agency. He may land a starting job.

Coming off bench with Giannis back
Portis will come off the bench for Tuesday's Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Suns, Mark Stein of The New York Times reports.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) available and starting, Portis will come off the bench. As a reserve in the playoffs, Portis is averaging 8.0 points and 4.9 rebounds in 16.7 minutes per game.
Jul 1, 2021
Entering starting five
Portis is entering the starting lineup for Friday's Game 5 matchup against the Hawks, Steve Aschburner of NBA.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will be making his first start of the 2021 NBA Playoffs in place of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) after the two-time MVP suffered a hyperextended left knee in the Game 4 loss to the Hawks. The 6-10 Portis was a DNP-CD in the final three games of the Eastern Conference semifinals against Brooklyn but has been incredibly efficient over the course of four games against the Hawks thus far. He's averaging 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game and will have a chance to improve on those marks with a new role in the starting lineup while Antetokounmpo remains sidelined.
Jun 28, 2021
Plays well off bench
Portis finished Sunday's Game 3 against the Hawks with 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-3 3Pt), four rebounds, two steals and an assist.
ANALYSIS
Portis was a DNP-CD in the final three games of the Brooklyn series in Round 2, but he's now back in the rotation and giving the Bucks productive minutes as the first big man off the bench. His 12 field-goal attempts were his most in any game since May 7, and Portis has drained a three-pointer in all three games of the series thus far. Defensively, Portis can still be a liability in certain situations, but he's given coach Mike Budenholzer no reason to pull back on his minutes as Milwaukee heads into Tuesday's Game 4 with a huge opportunity to take full control of the series.
Jun 24, 2021
Nudges double-double Wednesday
Portis contributed 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt), eight rebounds and one assist in 15 minutes during Wednesday's 116-113 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
With Brook Lopez failing to have an impact, Portis found himself thrust into a meaningful role, coming away with his best performance in quite some time. We know what he can do in limited minutes and so there is reason to think he could be a factor in this series, especially if Lopez is negated by the athleticism of the Hawks frontcourt.
May 28, 2021
Flirts with double-double in win
Portis closed with 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and nine rebounds in 17 minutes during Thursday's 113-84 victory over the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Portis stepped up for the Bucks, helping guide them to another blowout victory in Game 3 against the Heat. The Bucks' depth has been an issue in the past but based on what we have seen thus far, their second unit appears far stronger than in previous seasons. Along with P.J. Tucker, they provide adequate backup for when Giannis Antetokounmpo is off the court, providing him with much-needed rest down the stretch.
May 16, 2021
Unavailable against Bulls
Portis is unavailable for Sunday's game against the Bulls due to patellar tendinitis.
ANALYSIS
Portis was a late addition to the injury report as the Bucks rest their key players during Sunday's season finale. Portis will likely be available for the start of the playoffs.
May 12, 2021
Double-double off bench Tuesday
Portis scored 10 points (4-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT) while adding 15 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 21 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old continues to give the Bucks solid numbers, primarily from the second unit. Over his last seven games, Portis is averaging 11.3 points, 9.0 boards and 1.4 steals in 19.4 minutes.
May 4, 2021
Scores just five points in victory
Portis ended with five points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, one steal and one block in 16 minutes during Tuesday's 124-118 victory over Brooklyn.
ANALYSIS
Portis had been somewhat doubtful heading into the game after sitting out Sunday due to an illness. However, he managed to get back out there against the Nets but failed to deliver anything worth mentioning. Portis has been able to put together a serviceable season, although his value typically comes when those around him are sitting out. Barring the streaming opportunities, Portis is not a player to prioritize in standard formats.
May 3, 2021
Expected back Tuesday
Portis (illness) is listed as probable for Tuesday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
A stomach illness kept the forward out of Sunday's win over the Nets, but it looks like he's on track to return for Tuesday's rematch. When Giannis Antetokounpmo is healthy, Portis typically plays around 20 minutes off the bench. For fantasy purposes, he mostly provides scoring and rebounding.
May 2, 2021
Late scratch Sunday
Portis (illness) will not play Sunday against the Nets, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis was ruled out less than 30 minutes prior to tipoff after he had not appeared on the team's injury report. It will mark his first game missed in more than a month.
May 1, 2021
Posts another double-double
Portis had 16 points (7-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and 14 boards in Friday's win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (ankle) out, Portis made a spot start at forward and saw 28 minutes of action -- his most since April 8 -- in the victory. It was the second straight double-double for Portis, who also added two steals, an assist and a block to his tally.
Apr 30, 2021
Double-double in loss
Portis totaled 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 143-136 loss to the Rockets on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Portis picked up his 10th double-double of the season and also matched a career-high steals total. The forward has scored in double figures in four of his last five games and could be relied upon for additional scoring if Giannis Antetokounmpo (ankle), who left the game early in the first quarter and did not return, is forced to miss additional time. Portis has averaged 13.0 points and 6.8 rebounds across his last five contests.
Apr 23, 2021
Scores season-high 23 points
Portis tallied 23 points (9-11 FG, 5-5 3Pt), five rebounds and three blocked shots across 23 minutes in Thursday's 124-117 win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Portis came into the contest having averaged just six points while playing a combined 23 minutes over his past two games, but he shone Thursday with his highest scoring game of the campaign. The veteran also established his season high in blocked shots while drilling all five of his three-point attempts. Portis has been impressive from beyond the arc this season, making 46.5 percent of his 127 attempts from deep.
Apr 18, 2021
Plays only nine minutes in loss
Portis saw only nine minutes of action in Saturday night's loss to the Grizzlies, finishing with six points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and one rebound.
ANALYSIS
Portis saw 22 minutes of action against the Hawks two nights earlier, so it's unclear what led to the decision to keep him on such a short leash Saturday night. Chances are, it was simply a matchup-based decision by coach Mike Budenholzer, so Portis will likely return to his regular role of 17-to-25 minutes off the bench on most nights.
Apr 14, 2021
Enters starting lineup
Portis will start Wednesday's game against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) missing another contest, the Bucks will turn to Portis as his replacement Wednesday afternoon. The high-energy forward came off the bench Monday at Orlando, finishing with 16 points and 10 boards in 23 minutes. In the three previous games (all starts), Portis averaged 14.3 points, 13.3 rebounds and 0.7 blocks across 29.3 minutes.
Apr 12, 2021
Double-doubles off bench
Portis delivered 16 points (6-12 FG, 4-6 3Pt), 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal across 23 minutes off the bench in Sunday's win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis returned to the bench after starting three straight games, but his production wasn't affected with the role change -- he now has four straight double-doubles and continues to be a reliable two-way presence for the Bucks. Either as a starter or as a reserve, Portis should remain a valuable fantasy asset in most formats. He has scored in double digits in seven of his last eight contests.
Apr 11, 2021
Coming off bench Sunday
Portis isn't starting Sunday's game against the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Portis had started each of the last three games and posted double-doubles in each of those appearances. However, he'll take on a bench role against Orlando with Pat Connaughton joining the starting lineup Sunday.
Apr 10, 2021
Double-doubles once again
Portis registered 10 points (5-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt), 13 rebounds, two blocks and an assist across 25 minutes in Friday's loss against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis replaced Brook Lopez (back) as the Bucks changed their entire starting lineup due to a rash of injuries, and the veteran big man responded by posting his eighth double-double of the season. In fact, Portis has now started each of the Bucks' last three games and has recorded double-doubles in each one of those contests, so if he was already worth a look in most formats due to his contributions off the bench, he is enjoying a short-term uptick in his upside as long as he remains in the starting lineup. Portis has also scored in double digits in six of his last seven appearances.
Apr 9, 2021
In starting lineup
Portis will start at center in Friday's matchup with the Hornets, Sam Perley of the Hornets' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will replace Brook Lopez (back) in the starting lineup. The Bucks will be without their usual starting-five, so he figures to be in line for a large workload. The big man has averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 points across 32.0 minutes in four starts this season.
Apr 9, 2021
Second straight double-double
Portis registered 20 points (8-19 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Thursday's 116-101 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has now scored double-digit points in three straight games, a span in which he's averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks while shooting 55.3 percent from the field. Portis has taken advantage of his uptick in playing time and usage with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) out of the lineup. The sixth-year forward should continue providing solid production in points, rebounds and field-goal percentage until Antetokounmpo returns.
Apr 7, 2021
Double-doubles in loss
Portis scored 13 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and grabbed 13 rebounds Tuesday in a loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
The 6-foot-10 center made his way into the starting lineup for only the second time this season in the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee). Portis held his own in the opportunity, collecting his sixth double-double of the campaign. The sixth-year big man has been an important role player in his first season with the Bucks, posting per-game averages of 11.1 points, 6.9 boards and 1.1 three-pointers while shooting 53.0 percent from the field and 47.7 percent from deep.
Apr 6, 2021
Starting for Antetokounmpo
Portis will start Tuesday's game at Golden State, Ted Davis of the Milwaukee Bucks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old put up 18 points and six rebounds against the Kings on Saturday and will make his third start of the season Wednesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) sidelined. Portis averaged 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists over 32.0 minutes in his previous two starts.
Apr 3, 2021
Reclaims rotation spot in return
Portis (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) played 17 minutes off the bench Friday in the Bucks' 127-109 victory over the Trail Blazers, contributing six points (3-9 FG, 0-2 3Pt), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal.
ANALYSIS
Making his return from a four-game absence, Portis stepped back into his familiar role as the Bucks' first big man off the bench. He'll have a tough time seeing more than 25 in most competitive contests, but Portis produces well enough during his time on the court to have value in 14-team leagues or deeper. Portis is averaging 11.0 points (on 48 percent shooting from the field), 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 three-pointers and 1.3 assists in 18.1 minutes per game over his eight outings since the All-Star break.
Apr 2, 2021
Will return Friday
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) will return to action in Friday's tilt against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been sidelined for the Bucks' previous four games while in the league's health and safety protols. However, he has apparently been cleared and will suit up Friday. It remains to be seen if he will face any type of minute restriction.
Apr 1, 2021
Questionable for Friday
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) is questionable for Friday's game against Portland, Jamie Hudson of NBC Sports Northwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis has missed the last four games while in the league's health and safety protocols, so his upgrade to questionable is encouraging. His potential return could cut into the workload of Thanasis Antentokoumpo.
Mar 30, 2021
Still in protocols
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) is out Wednesday against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Portis remains in health and safety protocols and will be sidelined for a fourth straight contest. With P.J. Tucker (calf) also out, Thanasis Antetokounmpo should continue seeing extra minutes.
Mar 28, 2021
Ruled out Monday
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) will not be available for Monday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Portis remains in the league's protocols and will miss a third straight game as the Bucks enter a four-game weeks. It's unclear when Portis will be cleared to return, but he should be kept out of virtually all weekly lineups as a precaution.
Mar 27, 2021
Out Saturday
Portis (COVID-19 protocols) is out Saturday against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Portis remains in protocols and will miss a second game. His next chance to play arrives Monday against the Clippers.
Mar 26, 2021
Out due to protocols
Portis is out for Friday's game against the Celtics due to COVID-19 protocols.
ANALYSIS
Portis will miss his first game of the season Friday, and he may be out for longer. With P.J. Tucker (calf) also out, more minutes could be in store for Pat Connaughton and Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Mar 24, 2021
Scores 21 points in 17 minutes
Portis played 17 minutes off the bench and added 21 points (7-10 FG, 4-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win over the Celtics on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Despite playing significantly less minutes than starter Brook Lopez, Portis was the better player in most categories. The 21 points for Portis were also good enough for second most on the team behind Khris Middleton's 27. Portis hasn't played much recently, topping 20 minutes just once in his last five games but has still managed to score in double figures three times during that stretch.
Mar 23, 2021
Double-double in blowout win
Portis recorded 18 points (8-14 FG, 2-4 3Pt), 10 rebounds and four assists across 25 minutes Monday in the Bucks' 140-113 win over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis delivered his best all-around outing in more than a month, though it comes with the caveat that reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) was out of the lineup. Unless Antetokounmpo misses more time with what's believed to be a minor injury, Portis could struggle to deliver value to fantasy managers in 12-team leagues. Over the Bucks' previous five games since the All-Star break, Portis was averaging 8.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.8 assists in 17.0 minutes per contest.
Mar 14, 2021
Production waning in March
Portis has averaged 8.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.8 assists in 18.8 minutes per game over the Bucks' last five contests.
ANALYSIS
Though he's come off the bench in all but two of the Bucks' 38 games this season, Portis hasn't been out of place as a back-end option in standard 12-team league thanks mainly to his performance in the rebounds (7.1 per game) and field-goal percentage (54 percent on 8.5 attempts per game) categories. He's struggled to produce at that level in recent games, though, and because he's unlikely to see his role grow while both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez are healthy, Portis doesn't need to be treated as a must-roster player.
Feb 28, 2021
Nine points, seven boards in win
Portis had nine points (3-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds and three steals in Sunday's win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Portis returned to a bench role after starting Thursday's game, and his workload (20 minutes) sunk back closer to its usual level. Nonetheless, Portis still put up a decent overall line, buoyed by his three steals, which tied for his second-most in any game this season.
Feb 26, 2021
Nears double-double in start
Portis had 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-4 3Pt), eight rebounds and a pair of blocks in Thursday's win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
With D.J. Augustin (personal) sidelined, the Bucks went big up front with Portis making his second start of the season alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez. In 31 minutes, the Arkansas product fell two boards shy of a double-double, while blocking a pair of shots for the second straight game.
Feb 25, 2021
Starting Thursday
Portis is in the starting five for Thursday's game against the Pelicans, Zora Stephenson of Fox Sports Wisconsin reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis will draw just his second official start of the season Thursday, with Jrue Holiday (COVID-19 protocols) still out. During his last start, Jan. 9 versus Cleveland, Portis had 17 points, three assists and four steals across 33 minutes.
Feb 25, 2021
Available for Thursday
Portis (elbow) will play in Thursday's game against New Orleans, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis hasn't missed a game so far this season and that won't change as the elbow injury isn't significant enough to keep him sidelined. Portis is averaging 21.6 minutes per game in his bench role so far this season.
Feb 24, 2021
Probable Thursday
Portis is probable for Thursday's game against the Pelicans with a laceration on his left elbow.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old apparently picked up a cut on his elbow during Tuesday's win over the Timberwolves, but it shouldn't affect his availability for Thursday's contest. Portis is averaging 7.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 20.5 minutes over his past four games.
Feb 16, 2021
Plays well in loss
Portis recorded 16 points (7-11 FG, 2-3 3Pt), six rebounds, two assists and one steal in 24 minutes during Tuesday's 124-113 loss to the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Despite the Bucks' recent losing streak, Portis has been playing well. Another double-digit performance Tuesday makes in four games in a row that Portis has scored at least 10 points. Next up for the Bucks on Thursday is a second game against the Raptors in Milwaukee.
Feb 15, 2021
Efficient in loss
Portis totaled 21 points (9-14 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and three steals across 27 minutes in a 114-109 loss to the Thunder on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Portis turned in another superb performance off the bench. In his first season with the Bucks, the forward is averaging 11.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists over just 21.7 minutes per game. More surprising is how efficient he has been, shooting a career-high 55.2 percent from the field and career-high 47.5 percent from three.
Feb 3, 2021
Scores 18 points in 17 minutes
Portis registered 18 points (7-13 FG, 4-5 3Pt), nine rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block over 17 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's victory over the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
The four three-pointers made by Portis were a season-high as he fell just shy of his fourth double-double of the season. Portis outplayed starter Brook Lopez in every facet of the game despite playing in six fewer minutes. His rebounding has increased over his last three games.
Feb 1, 2021
Another superb outing off bench
Portis managed 21 points (9-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 0-1 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block during Monday's win over Portland.
ANALYSIS
Portis continues to be an asset off the bench for the Bucks, as the forward managed another 20-point outing in this one. Porter has now reached the 20-point mark three different times this year, something he did just six times all of last season. Across 19 games played, Portis is averaging 10.6 points and 7.4 rebounds.
Jan 25, 2021
Overwhelms undermanned Hawks
Portis posted a season-high 21 points (9-16 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) to go with six rebounds and one assist across 27 minutes Sunday in the Bucks' 129-115 win over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
The Hawks made the final score more respectable, but the Bucks were up by 15-plus points for most of the first two and a half quarters, allowing Portis and the second unit to pick up some extra run. As has been the case most of the season in blowouts, Portis' production once again trended up, but he's often difficult to trust in more competitive games, when head coach Mike Budenholzer is inclined to ride Brook Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo more heavily. That said, Portis has been a 12-team-worthy option thus far based on his numbers, as he's averaging 11.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.8 three-pointers, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks in 22.8 minutes per game while shooting 54 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line.
Jan 16, 2021
Grabs 13 boards in 17 minutes
Portis totaled eight points (3-8 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-3 FT) and 13 rebounds in just 17 minutes off the bench during the Bucks' 112-109 win over the Mavs.
ANALYSIS
Despite not playing at all in the fourth quarter, Portis still led the Bucks in rebounds for the fourth time this season. In his first year with the Bucks, Portis is enjoying a bounce back type of season. He is averaging 10.6 points and 8.1 rebounds, both up from last year with the Knicks, while shooting a career-high from the floor.
Jan 13, 2021
Cleared to play
Portis (knee) is available Wednesday against the Pistons, freelance reporter Kane Pitman reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Portis will see the court despite a bruised knee. Portis has been a strong contributor as a reserve frontcourt player for the Bucks this season, averaging 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24.2 minutes.
Jan 12, 2021
Probable Wednesday
Portis is probable for Wednesday's game against the Pistons due to a right knee contusion.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been a strong contributor as a reserve frontcourt player for the Bucks this season, averaging 11.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 24.2 minutes. He should be able to play Wednesday, but if he's limited or surprisingly ruled out, D.J. Wilson and Thanasis Antetokounmpo would be in line for expanded roles.
Jan 11, 2021
20 points off bench
Portis dropped 20 points (9-13 FG, 2-3 3Pt), five rebounds and one block in 25 minutes off the bench during Monday's 121-99 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
After recording a double-double in his first start of the season for Giannis Antetokounmpo (back), Portis was shifted back to the bench and still managed to put up a season-high in points. Portis has shown an ability to be productive this season, going for double-digit points in nine of 11 games this season while adding four double-doubles along the way.
Jan 11, 2021
Shifts back to bench
Portis will come off the bench Monday against the Magic, Ted Davis of the Milwaukee Bucks Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old put up a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in a spot start Saturday against Cleveland, but he'll return to the bench Monday with Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) retaking the court. Portis is putting up solid numbers this season and is averaging 10.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23.1 minutes as a reserve.
Jan 10, 2021
Puts up another double-double
Portis registered 17 points (7-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists and four steals across 33 minutes in Saturday's 100-90 win over the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Portis cracked the starting five for the first time this season, and he responded with his fourth double-double of the season. The veteran big man has reached that feat in three of his last five contests and, even if he moves back to the bench due to the potential return of Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) for Monday's clash against the Magic, Portis should remain valuable due to the fact he still has a defined, sizable role of the bench.
Jan 9, 2021
Joins starting five
Portis is starting Saturday's game versus Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old will receive his first start with the Bucks since Giannis Antetokounmpo (back) is unavailable for Saturday's contest. Portis is averaging 10.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 23.1 minutes this season, and he figures to see additional run against the Cavaliers.

Third double-double of season
Portis notched 16 points (7-11 FG, 2-5 3Pt), 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals across 28 minutes off the bench in Wednesday's 130-115 win over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Portis has vastly outplayed Brook Lopez at center, and he has extended his run of games scoring at least 10 points to seven contests. He has also posted three double-doubles this season and is clearly making an impact off the bench for Milwaukee, making him a useful waiver pick-up in most formats, especially category-based leagues.

Puts up double-double
Portis registered 13 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 12 rebounds, two blocks and an assist across 25 minutes off the bench in Friday's win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Portis was one of seven Milwaukee players that scored in double digits and also grabbed double-digit rebounds for the second time this season -- he achieved a double-double in both contests. Portis is not expected to move into the lineup anytime soon, but he has been productive enough to hold some upside in deeper leagues. For what is worth, he has scored 10 or more points in five straight contests.

Productive off bench again
Portis posted 17 points (7-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block across 26 minutes off the bench in Sunday's loss at the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Portis began the season as Brook Lopez's backup and held that role once again, but he has vastly outplayed him and Sunday's game was no different -- Portis ended as the team's third-highest scorer while also making an impact on the defensive end of the court. It has been a strong start to the year for Portis, and he should remain a reliable presence on both ends of the court even if he keeps coming off the bench moving forward.
Dec 18, 2020
Draws the start
Portis will start in Friday's preseason game against the Pelicans, Eric Nehm of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Giannis Antetokounmpo being held out of the preseason finale, Portis will get a chance to continue his nice preseason so far. The 25-year-old power forward has scored in double figures off the bench in the last two preseason games.
Dec 15, 2020
Scores 12 points off bench
Portis recorded 12 points (4-5 FG, 4-5 FT), a rebound and a block in 19 minutes off the bench during Monday's preseason loss against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Portis was one of six Milwaukee players that scored in double digits, and the big man is showing promise so far since joining the Bucks -- he has scored 12 or more points in both contests off the bench and could carve a role as an inside presence for Milwaukee once the regular season begins. That might not translate into a steady fantasy role, but he is more than capable of putting up decent numbers from time to time when given enough time on the court.
Dec 13, 2020
Double-double for new team
Portis scored 14 points (7-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 0-2 FT), and added 13 rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes of Saturday's 112-102 preseason loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Although Portis didn't get the start, he led the bench in minutes and played more than all but four of his teammates. The 25-year-old was also the game leader in rebounds. He'll likely earn more playing time if he can keep producing efforts like this.
Nov 21, 2020
Milwaukee bound
Portis and the Bucks have come to terms on a contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis averaged 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.0 triples across 21.1 minutes in New York last season. He struggled to find consistent playing time due to the Knicks' crowded frontcourt. With the departures of Ersan Ilyasova and Robin Lopez, he should be able to find playing time right away in Milwuakee by providing depth in the frontcourt. He is a career 36.0 percent shooter from beyond the arc, and if he is able to improve on that he could be able to carve out an even bigger role with the team.
Nov 19, 2020
Knicks decline option
The Knicks declined Portis' team option for the 2020-21 season on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It was always unlikely that the Knicks would pick up the option, which would've paid Portis more than $15 million next season. The former first-round pick will now head into free agency, where he'll likely have to settle for an offer considerably below that dollar value.
Mar 11, 2020
Scores 20, dishes five
Portis provided 20 points (9-15 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one block in 27 minutes during Tuesday's 122-115 loss to the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Portis compiled an impressive stat line, contributing in every category except steals while providing efficient offense. He has scored 20-plus in two of his last four appearances, but Portis combined for 21 points in the other two tilts. The 25-year-old big man is likely best reserved for use in deep leagues, but he offers enough upside to at least warrant consideration in most formats.
Mar 3, 2020
Provides lift off bench
Portis tallied 15 points (6-10 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, two blocks and one steal across 18 minutes Monday in the Knicks' 125-123 win over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Along with Wayne Ellington, Portis co-led the bench in scoring in what was one of New York's best all-around performances of the season, as the Knicks ended the red-hot Rockets' winning streak at six. Portis' tendency to put up shots from the perimeter typically keeps his efficiency low relative to other big men around the league, but he's been running hot from the field of late. He's hit double figures in scoring five times in the last six games, shooting 55.2 percent over that stretch.

Back to bench
Portis will return to a reserve role for Saturday's game against the Bulls, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis drew a spot start in plays of Taj Gibson (back) in Thursday's 115-106 loss to the 76ers. However, Gibson will be returning to Sunday's lineup. As a result, Portis will go back to his usual role of providing depth in the Knicks' frontcourt.
Feb 27, 2020
Will start Thursday
Portis will start Thursday's game against the 76ers, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Taj Gibson is questionable with a sore back, but the Knicks have already announced that Portis will move into the starting lineup, whether Gibson is ultimately active or not. Portis has topped 20 minutes in all three games since the All-Star break, and he's averaging 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds in that span.
Feb 27, 2020
Stays hot off bench
Portis put up 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt) to go with three rebounds and one block in 23 minutes Wednesday in the Knicks' 107-101 loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Portis has been the primary beneficiaries of the Feb. 6 trade that sent Marcus Morris to the Clippers. While it was first Reggie Bullock and now Maurice Harkless who took Morris' spot in the starting five, Portis has absorbed a good portion of the vacated offensive usage while remaining in a bench role. Portis has reached double figures in scoring in five of the Knicks' seven post-Morris games, averaging 12.0 points while shooting 46.3 percent from the field.
Feb 22, 2020
Explodes for 19 points
Portis racked up 19 points (6-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist and one block in 28 minutes during Friday's 106-98 loss against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Portis' playing time has fluctuated over the last few games, but he continues to have an established role off the bench for the Knicks. The veteran power forward has scored in double digits in four of his last six outings and is currently averaging 10.3 points per game in 21.1 minutes over seven February appearances.
Feb 12, 2020
Ejected Wednesday
Portis was ejected from Wednesday's tilt with the Wizards, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis was ejected during the fourth quarter after getting into a scuffle with Shabazz Napier, following an attempted layup. The big man finished the night with seven points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in 15 minutes of play. Barring any further punishments, he should be good to go for Friday's matchup with the Pacers.
Jan 15, 2020
Explodes for 20 points
Portis had 20 points (8-14 FG, 1-4 3PT, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, one assist and one steal in 27 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 128-102 loss at Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Portis has logged 20-plus minutes in three of his last four outings, and he is averaging 15.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in those contests. Furthermore, he has scored in double digits in the last six games where he has logged 20 or more minutes, meaning he has shown the ability to produce when he gets enough minutes on the hardwood. That said, he has started just three times this season so his upside will be capped by the amount of minutes he can log on a nightly basis.
Jan 9, 2020
Double-doubles in spot start
Portis ended with 13 points (5-17 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 13 rebounds and six assists in 29 minutes during Wednesday's 128-104 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Portis shifted into the starting lineup with Julius Randle (personal) away from the team. Portis managed a decent line, although his 13 points came on an inefficient 5-of-17 from the field. He is outside the top-200 this season and his lack of across the board production limits his value even when he is afforded substantial playing time.
Jan 8, 2020
Drawing spot start
Portis will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Utah, Steve Popper of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Portis was ejected during the first half of Tuesday's loss to the Lakers after committing a flagrant-two foul, but he won't be suspended -- though he was fined -- and will receive the start a day later. Julius Randle (personal) and Marcus Morris (neck) are unavailable, leaving the Knicks short on frontcourt depth.
