Dereck Lively Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Pistons vs Mavericks game on Thursday with our National Basketball Association injury report.Dec 10, 2025
To undergo season-ending surgery
Lively (foot) will undergo season-ending surgery, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively sought multiple opinions on his right foot, but it was determined that this was the best course of action. Lively is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 season. He made just seven appearances in 2025-26, posting averages of 4.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Daniel Gafford is likely to have a higher floor in fantasy following this news, and Moussa Cisse is likely to receive more opportunities.
Dec 4, 2025
Considered out indefinitely
The Mavericks announced Thursday that Lively (foot) has no timetable for a return, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is getting multiple opinions regarding the swelling and discomfort in his right foot. It sounds like the third-year center can be labeled as week-to-week until the next steps in his recovery are determined. Dallas should continue to lean on Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford (ankle) for the center minutes.
Dec 2, 2025
Still out
Lively (foot) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his sixth consecutive contest due to a right foot injury, and he can be considered doubtful ahead of Friday's game against the Thunder. With the third-year center remaining on the shelf, Daniel Gafford (ankle) should continue to see increased run if he's cleared to play.
Nov 25, 2025
To miss at least three games
Lively (foot) will miss the next three games and will be re-evaluated in seven-to-ten days, the Mavericks announced Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
This follows up a previous report from NBA reporter Marc Stein that indicated the Mavericks were fearful of the center missing extended time. Lively is currently being evaluated for swelling and discomfort in his right foot, and that's notable since it's the same foot he had offseason surgery on. This means Lively will be sidelined through Dec. 1, with an earliest possible return date of Dec. 3 against the Heat. Fantasy managers should brace for a longer absence, however. In the meantime, Daniel Gafford is likely to see a bump in fantasy appeal.
Nov 25, 2025
Could miss extended time
According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, it is feared that the Mavericks could face an extended injury absence for Lively (foot).
ANALYSIS
Lively missed Monday's game against Miami for right foot injury management, but he may be dealing with something more severe based on this report. Lively has appeared in just seven games thus far after offseason foot surgery, and the center can't seem to stay on the floor. Fantasy managers will need to sit tight until more clarity is known.
Nov 23, 2025
Ruled out for Monday
Lively (foot) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss Monday's contest due to right foot injury management, marking his second consecutive absence. With the third-year center sidelined, Moussa Cisse and Dwight Powell are candidates for increased minutes behind Daniel Gafford.
Nov 22, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Lively (knee/rest) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Lively will take a seat for the second half of Dallas' back-to-back set after posting four points, four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 18 minutes off the bench during Friday's win over the Pelicans. In his absence, Daniel Gafford should start at center, with Moussa Cisse carving out a larger role in the frontcourt.
Nov 21, 2025
Not starting Friday
Lively is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks will start Daniel Gafford at center, and while Lively is expected to see action, he's still playing under a minutes restriction. That limit conspires against his fantasy upside, as he's yet to log more than 21 minutes in a single game this season.
Nov 21, 2025
Available after all
Updating a previous report, Lively (knee) is available for Friday's game against the Pelicans, per Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks mistakenly ruled Lively out as a late scratch for Friday with a knee sprain, but the big man is suiting up after all. He should continue handle fewer than 20 minutes until Dallas loosens up his restrictions following an extended absence, per Kevin Gray Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports.
Nov 21, 2025
Ruled out Friday
Lively is out for Friday's game against the Pelicans due to a right knee sprain.
ANALYSIS
Lively is a late addition to the injury report, and the big man won't be an option for Friday, thinning the team's depth in a frontcourt that was already missing Anthony Davis (calf). Daniel Gafford is expected to see an uptick in minutes with Lively out.
Nov 20, 2025
Double-digit boards Wednesday
Lively finished Wednesday's 113-111 loss to the Knicks with four points (1-3 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and three blocks across 18 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The 10 boards were a season high and the three rejections also tied his best effort of the campaign, albeit in only six games played. Knee trouble has limited Lively's availability in the early going, but he appears to be rounding into form, and despite averaging only 15.7 minutes in three games since returning to action he's produced 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.
Nov 19, 2025
Starting Wednesday
Lively is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's matchup with the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Lively took a maintenance day on the second leg of a back-to-back set Monday, but he'll be back in action Wednesday night and the starter designation suggests his minutes limits have been lifted. Joining him in the first unit will be Brandon Williams, Klay Thompson, Max Christie and P.J. Washington.
Nov 19, 2025
Good to go Wednesday
Lively (knee) has been cleared to play Wednesday against the Knicks, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was initially added to the injury report as probable and has since been given the green light after making it through pregame warmups. The big man has appeared in five games this season, averaging 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 blocks in 15.8 minutes.
Nov 18, 2025
Probable for Wednesday
Lively (knee) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
After getting a maintenance day for Monday's game against the Timberwolves, Lively is expected back in the rotation. He's likely to have heavy restrictions moving forward, as the center has had some serious trouble staying healthy. Moussa Cisse is expected to lose some steam with Daniel Gafford (ankle) also considered probable.
Nov 17, 2025
Won't play Monday
Lively (knee) is out for Monday's game against the Timberwolves, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Monday's game is the second leg of a back-to-back set, but despite seeing just 12 minutes Sunday, the Mavericks will hold Lively out as a precaution. Daniel Gafford (ankle) is also out, meaning the Mavericks could rely heavily on Moussa Cisse. Dwight Powell could be in line for more run as well.
Nov 15, 2025
Blocks a shot and snatches a steal
Lively notched four points (1-3 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, one steal, one block and one turnover in 17 minutes during Friday's 133-127 double overtime loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Lively was on an 18-minute cap in his first game back, so he wasn't able to help his team during either overtime period. However, he moved around well and collected two stocks, so his return has to be considered a success. Unfortunately, the Mavs have a Sunday-Monday, back-to-back set coming up, so Lively will likely need to return to the sidelines for one of those games.
Nov 14, 2025
To play 15-18 minutes
Lively will be limited to 15-18 minutes during Friday's game against the Clippers, Christian Clark of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is making his first appearance since Oct. 26 after missing nine consecutive games with a sprained knee. Given the lengthy layoff, Lively will be limited to no more than 18 minutes during Friday's contest. He should share center duties with Daniel Gafford.
Nov 14, 2025
Cleared to return Friday
Lively (knee) will return to action Friday against the Clippers, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is set to return after a nine-game absence. Given his injury history, it's likely that he's going to face restrictions in his first couple games back. With Lively back in the mix, Daniel Gafford's floor will likely be a bit lower, and Moussa Cisse could see his role fade.
Nov 13, 2025
Remains questionable for Friday
Lively (knee) is questionable for Friday's game against the Clippers, Christian Clark of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed the past nine games for Dallas, but he'll be listed as questionable for the second time in a row, indicating that his return is on the horizon. If he remains sidelined, Moussa Cisse could remain heavily involved behind Daniel Gafford at the center spot, especially with Anthony Davis' (calf) status still in the air.
Nov 12, 2025
Out again
Lively (knee) won't play in Wednesday's game against the Suns, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively earned a questionable tag for Wednesday's contest -- his first since going down with a knee sprain nine games ago. However, he isn't ready to return. Daniel Gafford, Moussa Cisse and Dwight Powell should handle most of the center work Wednesday. Lively's next chance to play will come Friday against LAC.
Nov 11, 2025
Questionable for Wednesday
Lively (knee) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
The questionable tag is a positive sign for Lively, who has missed the Mavericks' last eight games due to a right knee sprain. If the 21-year-old center is ultimately ruled out for Wednesday's contest, Moussa Cisse and Dwight Powell are candidates for an uptick in minutes, especially if Anthony Davis (calf) is downgraded from questionable to out.
Nov 10, 2025
Ruled out Monday
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Bucks, Noah Weber of TheSmokingCuban.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his eighth straight game due to a sprained right knee, and his next chance to suit up will come Wednesday against Phoenix. With Anthony Davis (calf) and Lively sidelined, Moussa Cisse and Dwight Powell are candidates for an uptick in minutes.
Nov 9, 2025
Unlikely for Monday
Lively (knee) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Lively is likely to miss an eighth straight game due to a right knee issue. Dallas' frontcourt will be something to monitor ahead of Monday's bout, as Anthony Davis (calf, questionable) and Daniel Gafford (ankle, questionable) are also dealing with injuries.
Nov 8, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Lively is dealing with a knee issue, which will keep him sidelined for a seventh straight game. The team will likely turn to Dwight Powell and Daniel Gafford (ankle) to help shoulder the load in the frontcourt.
Nov 8, 2025
Unlikely to play Saturday
Lively (knee) has been listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Lively is in danger of missing a seventh straight game due to a knee issue. Daniel Gafford (ankle) will likely remain in the starting lineup if Lively is ruled out once again, with Dwight Powell likely getting a boost in minutes off the bench.
Nov 5, 2025
Out through weekend
Head coach Jason Kidd said Wednesday that Lively (knee) is doing on-court work and will hopefully be back by next week, Christian Clark of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has already missed five straight games with a sprained right knee, and he'll miss at least two more due to the issue. Kidd's comments indicate he'll be sidelined for both legs of Dallas's back-to-back that begins Friday. After that, Lively's next chance to play will come Monday against Milwaukee.
Nov 4, 2025
Out again Wednesday
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Lively is slated to miss a fifth straight game and will be joined on the sidelines by Anthony Davis (calf) once again. That leaves Daniel Gafford as the Mavericks' starting center, with Dwight Powell as his primary backup. Lively's next chance to suit up will come Friday in Memphis, but at this point, he can be considered doubtful for that contest.
Nov 2, 2025
Ruled out for Monday
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his fourth straight game due to a right knee sprain, with his next opportunity to return coming Wednesday against the Pelicans. With both him and Anthony Davis (calf) sidelined, Daniel Gafford is likely to remain in the starting lineup, while Dwight Powell could see increased opportunities.
Oct 31, 2025
Remaining out vs. Detroit
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his third consecutive game due to a right knee sprain, and his next opportunity to play will come Monday against the Rockets. Dwight Powell is likely to see an uptick in playing time, especially if Daniel Gafford (ankle) is downgraded from questionable to out.
Oct 29, 2025
Ruled out vs. Indiana
Lively (knee) won't play in Wednesday's game against the Pacers, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his second consecutive contest due to a sprained right knee. His next opportunity to play will come Saturday against Detroit. Anthony Davis will likely shoulder the responsibilities at center Wednesday, with Naji Marshall being in line for more playing time at power forward.
Oct 28, 2025
Not expected to play Wednesday
Lively (knee) is listed as doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Pacers
ANALYSIS
Lively is expected to miss his second consecutive contest due to a sprained right knee. If the big man is ultimately ruled out, his next opportunity to play will come Saturday against the Pistons.
Oct 27, 2025
Won't play Monday
Lively (knee) won't play Monday against the Thunder, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Lively hitting the sidelines, Anthony Davis will likely slide over to center, which could allow D'Angelo Russell to finally move into the first unit. The Mavs play again Wednesday against the Pacers, and for now, Lively should be considered questionable for that one.
Oct 27, 2025
Doubtful for Monday
Lively (knee) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Monday's game is the second leg of a back-to-back set, and it sounds like Lively is going to be held out. His injury is being described as a left knee contusion, so it sounds relatively minor. With Daniel Gafford (ankle) considered doubtful, the Mavericks could slide Anthony Davis to center and utilize some smaller lineup combos.
Oct 23, 2025
Limited by foul trouble
Lively logged four points (1-2 FG, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and three assists across 10 minutes during Wednesday's 125-92 loss to San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Lively managed just 10 minutes in the loss, limited by early foul trouble. Matched up against Victor Wembanyama was never going to end well, something that could probably be said for a number of centers across the league. While this was a terrible night for Lively, managers should stick to their guns and hope for an improved performance against the Wizards on Friday.
Oct 20, 2025
Fourth-year option picked up
The Mavericks exercised the fourth-year team option on Lively's contract Monday.
ANALYSIS
No surprise here, as the move keeps Lively under team control until through 2026-27. The 2023 first-rounder is projected to play a key role down low for Dallas moving forward, and Lively could dominate the center minutes early on this season if Daniel Gafford can't get past his ankle sprain.
Oct 12, 2025
Strong two-way performance
Lively finished with 10 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 22 minutes during Saturday's preseason loss to the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Lively turned in his best performance of the preseason, producing on both ends of the floor. With Daniel Gafford sidelined due to an ankle injury, Lively has an opportunity to establish himself as the primary center, a role the coaching staff would love to see him embrace. While he is unlikely to play what might be considered typical starter's minutes, Lively should still be a good source of boards and blocks, while also scoring efficiently.
Sep 29, 2025
Cleared for training camp
Lively (foot) has been cleared for training camp, Joey Mistreta reported Monday.
ANALYSIS
Lively underwent surgery July 15 to clean up bone spurs in his right foot, but there's been no reported restrictions ahead of camp. That being said, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Mavericks ease him back during the preseason. With Anthony Davis expected to start at power forward, Lively is the presumed starting center with Daniel Gafford right behind him.
Jul 15, 2025
Undergoes foot surgery
Lively underwent surgery Tuesday to clean up bone spurs in his right foot, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
ANALYSIS
Charania reports that Lively is expected to be ready for training camp, though this an unfortunate setback for him as it could mess up his offseason training regimen. Lively was limited to 36 regular-season games in 2024-25 in which he posted averages of 8.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.6 blocks in 23.1 minutes. With Anthony Davis likely to play some center and Daniel Gafford fresh off a contract extension, there is quite a logjam in Dallas' frontcourt.
Apr 13, 2025
Out Sunday, as expected
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Lively has been downgraded from doubtful to out and will miss the regular-season finale. He has appeared in three straight and four of Dallas' last five games since returning from a two-plus-month absence. However, despite dropping a double-double Friday, Lively has yet to play more than 18 minutes since his ankle injury.
Apr 12, 2025
Unlikely to play Sunday
Lively (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Lively has played in four of the Mavericks' last five games, but he'll likely be sidelined for Sunday's regular-season finale as he continues to work his way back from a fractured right ankle that caused him to miss 36 games. Lively's absence would mean more minutes for Daniel Gafford, Kai Jones and Dwight Powell.
Apr 12, 2025
Efficient double-double
Lively finished Friday's 124-102 victory over the Raptors with 10 points (5-7 FG) and 11 rebounds over 18 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively needed only 18 minutes of playing time to register his eighth double-double of the season and first since Jan. 9 against Portland. Lively continues to ramp up his activity following a lengthy absence due to a right ankle injury, and he could see a slight uptick in playing time in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Grizzlies as the Mavericks battle for the ninth seed in the Western Conference standings.
Apr 10, 2025
Sees just 15 minutes
Lively provided six points (3-3 FG) and one steal over 15 minutes during Wednesday's 112-97 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Despite starting this game, Lively saw just 15 minutes and picked up three fouls. He's averaging 15.3 minutes per contest over his last three appearances since returning from injury, and it's clear the Mavericks are going to take a very cautious approach with the second-year center.
Apr 5, 2025
Set to play Saturday
Lively (ankle) is available for Saturday's game against the Clippers, Mark Medina of TheSportingTribune.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was one of several Dallas players who were deemed probable for the second leg of this back-to-back set, and the upgrade to available shouldn't be surprising. The Mavericks won't have Daniel Gafford (knee), so Lively should see heavy minutes in the frontcourt regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. Lively has made just one appearance since the All-Star break, notching four points, five rebounds and an assist across 16 minutes in a win over the Hawks on April 2.
Apr 5, 2025
Expected to play Saturday
Lively (ankle) is listed as probable for Saturday's game versus the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Lively is expected to return to action Saturday after sitting out the first leg of Dallas' back-to-back due to a right ankle injury. Although Lively started in his latest appearance, he only logged 16 minutes.
Apr 3, 2025
Ruled out vs. LAC
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
After returning from a 36-game absence against the Hawks on Wednesday due to an ankle fracture, Lively will not suit up for Friday's game against the Clippers to manage the injury. Dallas will likely lean on Daniel Gafford, Kai Jones and Dwight Powell in Los Angeles.
Apr 3, 2025
Limited in return
Lively supplied four points (1-1 FG, 2-4 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one block in 16 minutes during Wednesday's 120-118 victory over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Lively returned to the court after having missed 36 straight games due to an ankle injury. He slid straight into the starting lineup, playing alongside Anthony Davis for the first time in his career. While it was a subdued return, the Mavericks now somewhat resemble a full-strength lineup, minus Kyrie Irving who recently underwent surgery on a season-ending knee injury.
Apr 2, 2025
Will start vs. Atlanta
Lively will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Hawks, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will make his long-awaited return to the floor for the Mavericks on Wednesday and will be in the starting five right out of the gate. In 25 games as a starter this season, the 20-year-old big man averaged 9.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.9 blocks per game, shooting 70.1 percent from the field.
Apr 2, 2025
Set to return Wednesday
Lively (ankle) has been cleared to play in Wednesday's game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Lively will return to the floor for the Mavericks on Wednesday after a 36-game absence due to an ankle injury. Dallas is finally starting to get healthy in the frontcourt, with Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford returning to the lineup recently after an extended absence due to injuries.
Apr 1, 2025
Practices, listed as questionable
Lively is questionable for Wednesday's game against Atlanta due to a right ankle stress fracture.
ANALYSIS
Lively was upgraded to questionable before ultimately being ruled out Monday against Brooklyn, but he practiced fully Tuesday, per Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, and is nearing a return to action. With Anthony Davis (adductor) probable and Daniel Gafford having returned, Lively would likely play a reserve role with significant restrictions if he suits up Wednesday.
Mar 31, 2025
Out Monday, could return this week
Lively remains out for Monday's game against the Nets due to a right ankle stress fracture, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Lively won't play Monday, he's on the verge of rejoining the Mavericks' lineup after originally being listed as questionable to play following a multi-month absence. Head coach Jason Kidd says the 2023 first-rounder could play as soon as this week, per Afseth, with Lively's next chance to do so coming Wednesday against Atlanta. Dallas will get Daniel Gafford (knee) back against Brooklyn, and his return should put a dent in Kai Jones' fantasy appeal.
Mar 30, 2025
Upgraded to questionable for Monday
Lively (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
His questionable tag is worth noting, as he had previously either been ruled out or listed as doubtful due to a right ankle injury that has kept him off the floor since Jan. 14. That indicates that he is in the final stages of his recovery from the injury, and when he does return he'll likely operate under a minutes restriction to allow him to get up to game speed.
Mar 29, 2025
Not playing Saturday
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been ramping up his activity and is in the final stages of his recovery from a right ankle injury that has kept him out of action since Jan. 14. He's not quite ready to return Saturday, but his next chance to play is Monday against the Nets.
Mar 28, 2025
Unlikely to play vs. Chicago
Lively (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Lively is dealing with a right ankle injury and hasn't played since Jan. 14. Even though he's been ramping up of late, and even practiced with the Texas Legends of the G League earlier this month, it seems he's not ready to return to action yet. If he ends up being ruled out, then Lively's next chance to play will come against the Nets on Monday.
Mar 21, 2025
Set to practice in G League
The Mavericks assigned Lively to the G league's Texas Legends to take part in a 5-on-5 practice and will recall him after.
ANALYSIS
Lively hasn't played since Jan. 14 due to an ankle injury but appears to be ramping up toward a return to action and will practice alongside Anthony Davis and Daniel Gafford in the G League. While there is no timetable for Lively's return, it appears that he will attempt to play before the end of the regular season.
Mar 7, 2025
Progresses to individual work
The Mavericks announced Friday that Lively (ankle) has progressed to individual court week after a recent re-evaluation, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively remains without an official timetable, but he's going to be re-evaluated on a weekly basis which means fantasy managers can expect more updates on his progress in the near future. Meanwhile, Anthony Davis (adductor) has been cleared for more dynamic court movements and Daniel Gafford (knee) will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Jan 23, 2025
Due for checkup in one month
The Mavericks announced Wednesday that Lively will be re-evaluated in four weeks after being diagnosed with a right ankle stress fracture.
ANALYSIS
Though Lively is due to be examined by doctors again in approximately one month, fantasy managers shouldn't expect the second-year center to be ready to play right away even if his re-evaluation yields good news. Shams Charania of ESPN reported earlier Wednesday that Lively's injury is expected to keep him sidelined for around 2-to-3 months in total, making him a drop candidate in most redraft leagues with limited injured reserve spots. Daniel Gafford has started each of the last four games in Lively's stead and has played 30-plus minutes on three occasions while averaging 20.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, 2.3 assists and 0.8 steals.
Jan 22, 2025
Out 2-3 months with foot fracture
Lively has suffered a small fracture in his right foot and is expected to miss 2-to-3 months, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a brutal blow for Dallas as the franchise has had some awful luck in the injury department this season. With Lively looking at an extended absence, the Mavericks will likely continue to rely on Daniel Gafford who has been excellent for the team lately -- he's averaging 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 3.7 blocks over his last three games. Lively may not see the floor until April with this news, depending on how fast he recovers.
Jan 21, 2025
Iffy against Minnesota
Lively (ankle) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Lively is in danger of missing his fourth straight contest Wednesday due to a right ankle sprain. Daniel Gafford will likely continue to receive increased playing time if Lively is ruled out yet again.
Jan 20, 2025
Won't play Monday
Lively (ankle) will not play Monday against the Hornets, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his third game in a row, but he's at least trending in the right direction -- he was upgraded to questionable for the first time since his injury prior to this update. With Dwight Powell (hip) also out, Daniel Gafford and Maxi Kleber are likely to soak up the bulk of the center minutes.
Jan 19, 2025
Questionable for Monday
Lively (ankle) is questionable for Monday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
The questionable tag is an upgrade for Lively after the center missed the past two games for Dallas. If Lively is able to return to action, it's likely that Daniel Gafford will make way back to the bench.
Jan 16, 2025
Out again Friday
Lively (ankle) will not play Friday against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his second game in a row, and the fact that he's getting ruled out a day in advance suggests that he's not day-to-day at the moment. His next chance to play will be Monday against Charlotte. Daniel Gafford could continue to see a spike in fantasy appeal in the meantime after putting up 27 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes against the Pelicans on Wednesday.
Jan 15, 2025
Ruled out for Wednesday
Lively (ankle) will not play Wednesday against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
This is an expected update from the Mavericks, but fantasy managers will have to wait for more clarity regarding the severity of his sprain -- it was previously reported that X-rays came back negative. With Lively out Wednesday, Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are candidates to see increased minutes.
Jan 15, 2025
X-rays negative on ankle
X-rays taken on Lively's sprained right ankle came back negative, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes.
ANALYSIS
Lively left Tuesday's game versus the Nuggets early and was unable to return. Haynes reports that there is no clarity on a possible timeline for a return, but fantasy managers should brace themselves for the possibility of missed games. If Lively does miss time, guys like Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell could soak up his minutes.
Jan 14, 2025
Won't return Tuesday
Lively is out for the remainder of Tuesday's game versus the Nuggets due to a right ankle sprain. He will finish the contest with four points (2-3 FG) and one block in four minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively made it just four minutes into Tuesday's contest before spraining his right ankle. Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are now all candidates to receive increased playing time in Dallas' frontcourt. Lively's status for Wednesday's matchup with New Orleans is uncertain.
Jan 14, 2025
Heads to locker room
Lively exited Tuesday's game versus the Nuggets with 8:04 remaining in the first quarter due to an apparent right ankle injury, Noah Weber of TheSmokingCuban.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively tallied four points (2-3 FG) and one block in four minutes before exiting Tuesday's contest early. If the second-year center is unable to return to action, Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell could all receive increased playing time.
Jan 10, 2025
Blows up with double-double
Lively ended with 21 points (9-13 FG, 3-3 FT), 15 rebounds, one assist and three blocks in 35 minutes during Thursday's 117-111 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Lively held down the frontcourt effectively, racking up a great line while containing DeAndre Ayton's production. Donovan Clingan has a bit more success against Lively, but the 2023 first-round pick was nonetheless impressive. Daniel Gafford only managed 10 minutes during Thursday's win, so it appears that Lively is strengthening his hold on the starting job.
Jan 7, 2025
Efficient double-double in loss
Lively dropped 14 points (7-11 FG), grabbed 12 boards, blocked three shots and dished one assist in 33 minutes of play during Monday's 119-104 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
The sophomore big man recorded his sixth double-double of the season, and tied his second-highest marks for blocks and assists while he was at it. In the five games previous, Lively had averaged 7.2 points and 8.4 boards. He'll look to keep building on Monday's performance against the Lakers on Tuesday.
Jan 3, 2025
Full-go against Cleveland
Lively won't have a minutes restriction in Friday's game versus the Cavaliers, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively returned to action Wednesday after missing three straight games with a hip injury and logged just twenty minutes. However, Lively will now be available to play closer to the 26.4 minutes per contest he was averaging in his previous 10 appearances.
Jan 2, 2025
Well-rounded line in return
Lively (hip) finished with eight points (4-5 FG), six rebounds, six assists, four blocks and one steal across 20 minutes Wednesday in the Mavericks' 110-99 loss to the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Though he took back his usual spot in the starting five in his return from a three-game absence due to a left hip contusion, Lively ended up seeing lighter minutes than usual while Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd deployed a deep center rotation that included Daniel Gafford, Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber. Powell likely won't be featured in the rotation moving forward, while Kleber could be needed to play more minutes at power forward after P.J. Washington (knee) sat out the entire second half of Wednesday's contest. With that in mind, expect Lively's playing time to pick up as he becomes further removed from the hip injury, and despite getting more limited run than usual against the Rockets, the second-year big man was still able to come away with a solid all-around fantasy line.
Jan 1, 2025
Set to return against Houston
Lively has been made available for Wednesday's game against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
After missing the last three games with a hip contusion, Lively will return to the floor for the Mavericks on Wednesday. Head coach Jason Kidd said Lively will have a 15 to 18-minute restriction in his return against Houston.
Dec 31, 2024
Listed as questionable again
Lively (hip) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed three straight games due to a left hip contusion and was listed as questionable ahead of two of those three absences. If the youngster can't suit up, Daniel Gafford should continue to start at center.
Dec 30, 2024
Won't go Monday
Lively (hip) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his third consecutive outing due to a left hip contusion, and his next chance to return will come Wednesday against the Rockets. Daniel Gafford should draw another start, though Maxi Kleber and Olivier-Maxence Prosper are candidates for an uptick in playing time off the bench.
Dec 29, 2024
Questionable to play Monday
Lively (hip) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Kings, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A left hip bruise has forced Lively to miss the Mavericks' last two games, but he could make his return Monday. If he remains out, Daniel Gafford would likely start at center while Dwight Powell and Maxi Kleber would both be in line for more minutes off the bench.
Dec 28, 2024
Out again
Lively (hip) won't play in Saturday's game against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss a second straight contest due to a left hip bruise. Daniel Gafford started and 29 minutes in place of Lively on Friday and should remain in the first unit Saturday. With P.J. Washington and Naji Marshall suspended, Dwight Powell and Markieff Morris could also expanded roles.
Dec 27, 2024
Won't play Friday vs. Phoenix
Lively (hip) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Suns, Mark Followill of Bally Sports Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is working through a left hip contusion, which is serious enough for him to be sidelined for Friday's Western Conference clash. Daniel Gafford will likely slide into the starting lineup due to Lively's injury and Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell should see increased playing time off the Mavericks' bench.
Dec 26, 2024
Iffy against Phoenix
Lively is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Suns due to a left hip contusion.
ANALYSIS
Lively is in danger of missing his first game since Dec. 1 on Friday due to a hip injury. If the 20-year-old big man is unable to suit up against Phoneix, Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Dec 22, 2024
Top rebounds in double-double
Lively racked up 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals across 28 minutes during Saturday's 113-97 victory over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Lively led the way for Dallas in the paint Saturday, leading all Mavericks in rebounds and blocks while adding a pair of steals and concluding as the lone player with a double-double. Lively has recorded a double-double in five contests this season, hauling in 10 or more boards in eight outings.
Dec 11, 2024
Pulls down 13 rebounds
Lively registered five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 FT), 13 rebounds, five assists and one block in 31 minutes during Tuesday's 118-104 loss to Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Lively was moved to the bench for the start of the second half in favor of Daniel Gafford, but he still saw a much larger workload. He recorded at least five assists for the third time of his career, and he posted his fourth double-double of the campaign. He's on pace to record 10th-round value in nine-category formats for the season due to efficient shooting with strong rebounding and shot blocking.
Dec 4, 2024
Strong double-double in return
Lively closed Tuesday's 121-116 victory over Memphis with 17 points (7-10 FG, 3-7 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively returned from a one-game absence, playing a season-high 32 minutes. He also recorded a season-best 17 points, tallying his fourth double-double. Although the Mavericks have a more than capable backup in Daniel Gafford, there is a chance head coach Jason Kidd is now prepared to lean into Lively a little more. While both should continue to play meaningful roles, Lively is the logical choice to be given the majority of the minutes given his trajectory.
Dec 3, 2024
Available vs. Memphis
Lively (knee) is available for Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will return from a one-game absence due to a right knee injury, though it's unclear if he'll move back to the starting lineup or if he'll remain on the bench. Lively has started in Dallas' previous nine contests, averaging 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds across 22.0 minutes per game in that span.
Dec 2, 2024
Iffy to play Tuesday vs. Memphis
Lively (knee) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies, Mark Followill of Bally Sports Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was sidelined for Sunday's game against Portland due to a right knee injury he suffered late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's clash against Utah. Daniel Gafford would be in line to start at center for a second straight game if Lively is unable to play, while Maxi Kleber would see an uptick in playing time off the pine.
Dec 1, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Lively has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Trail Blazers due to a right knee hyperextension.
ANALYSIS
Lively left Saturday's win over Utah late in the fourth quarter, and while he returned to the bench, he never returned to the game. His next chance to suit up will come Tuesday against Memphis. In Lively's absence, Daniel Gafford will likely move into the starting lineup, while Maxi Kleber is a candidate for increased minutes off the bench.
Nov 27, 2024
Will play Wednesday
Lively (illness) is available for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Lively left Monday's game early due to an illness and was questionable for Wednesday. However, the big man has been cleared to play and may see an elevated role, as Daniel Gafford (illness) has been ruled out. Over his last seven appearances (all starts), Lively has averaged 7.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.3 blocks in 20.9 minutes per game.
Nov 26, 2024
Iffy against New York
Lively (illness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Lively left Dallas' most recent contest early due to an illness and could be forced to sit out Wednesday. If Lively is unable to suit up against New York, Daniel Gafford would likely draw the start.
Nov 25, 2024
Won't return Monday
Lively will not return to Monday's game against the Hawks due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Lively started the game and was able to play through the first half, during which he posted two points (0-2 FG, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 11 minutes. With the second-year big man sidelined, the Mavericks will likely turn to Daniel Gafford and Maxi Kleber the rest of the way.
Nov 25, 2024
Iffy to return Monday
Lively is questionable to return during Monday's game against the Hawks due to an illness, Mavericks beat reporter Landon Thomas reports.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Gafford started the second half with Lively remaining in the locker room. If the second-year big man is unable to return, Gafford and Maxi Kleber will likely both see an uptick in playing time.
Nov 24, 2024
Sets season high in double-double
Lively finished Sunday's 123-118 overtime loss to the Heat with 14 points (7-9 FG), 13 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively helped lock down the paint in Sunday's overtime contest, leading all Dallas players in rebounds to go along with a pair of blocks in a double-double showcase. Lively set a new season high in boards, hauling in at least 10 rebounds in four contests. Lively has now recorded three double-doubles this year, his first since Nov. 3.
Nov 17, 2024
Will remain in starting role
Lively will remain in the starting role "for the next couple of games," head coach Jason Kidd told media, including Landon Thomas of Mavs Fans For Life, in his post-game press conference following Saturday's win over the Spurs. "We'll see how D Live handles these next couple of games as a starter, and then we'll figure out who will start after that. But, D Live has been great."
ANALYSIS
Lively got the start in Saturday's win over the Spurs and posted seven points, four rebounds, two assists and four blocks across 20 minutes. Even though Daniel Gafford outplayed him with a 22-point, seven-rebound, three-block effort in only 18 minutes, it seems Lively will stay with the first unit for now. There's no timetable for Kidd to make a definitive decision on who will be the starting center going forward -- assuming he'll make one at some point.
Nov 14, 2024
Gets starting nod vs. Jazz
Lively will enter the starting lineup in Thursday's game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 20-year-old will replace Daniel Gafford in the starting five after a solid return from a right shoulder sprain in Tuesday's loss to Golden State, during which Lively recorded 12 points (4-6 FG, 4-7 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and one block across 24 minutes. The big man will likely still split minutes with Gafford, and the two should both receive significant playing time with P.J. Washington (knee) out.
Nov 13, 2024
Logs 12/8 line in return
Lively had 12 points (4-6 FG, 4-7 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and one block across 24 minutes during Tuesday's 120-117 loss to Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Lively played 24 minutes in the loss, and his recent shoulder injury didn't appear to affect his performance. The Mavericks will move forward with Daniel Gafford in the first unit, but Lively will get his share of opportunities and often match Gafford's minutes with the second unit.
Nov 12, 2024
Available to play Tuesday
Lively (shoulder) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Warriors, Kevin Gray Jr. of AllDLLS.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will return to the rotation after missing the last four games with a right shoulder sprain. The second-year big man is averaging 9.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game in six outings off the bench in 2024-25.
Nov 11, 2024
Could return Tuesday
Lively (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's game against Golden State.
ANALYSIS
A right shoulder sprain has caused Lively to be sidelined for the Mavericks' last four games, though he has been making progress and is inching closer to a return. If Lively cannot play Tuesday, Dwight Powell will operate as the Mavs' backup center behind Daniel Gafford.
Nov 11, 2024
Making progress
Lively (shoulder) practiced Monday and hopes to play Tuesday versus the Warriors, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed four straight games due to a right shoulder sprain but appears to be nearing a return. His official status for Tuesday's game against the Warriors will be released Monday night.
Nov 10, 2024
Officially ruled out Sunday
Lively (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Nuggets, Adam Mares of DenverStiffs.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will be sidelined for a fourth straight game due to a right shoulder sprain. Dwight Powell should see an increase in minutes off the bench behind starting center Daniel Gafford. Lively's next chance at playing will be Tuesday against the Warriors.
Nov 9, 2024
Likely out Sunday
Lively (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Nuggets, Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is expected to miss his fourth straight contest Sunday due to a right shoulder sprain. If Lively is downgraded to doubtful, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell should continue to receive extended minutes.
Nov 7, 2024
Out again Friday
Lively (shoulder) will not play in Friday's game against the Suns, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss a third consecutive game, and he will join P.J. Washington (knee) and potentially Maxi Kleber (doubtful due to hamstring) as the key inactives for Friday's game. With Lively out, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell will likely occupy the team's minutes at center.
Nov 6, 2024
Officially out Wednesday
Lively (shoulder) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Lively was initially listed as questionable but got downgraded to doubtful Wednesday morning, so this doesn't come as a surprise. It'll mark Lively's second straight absence due to a right shoulder sprain, and his next chance to suit up will come Friday versus the Suns. With P.J. Washington (knee) also unavailable, Naji Marshall, Daniel Gafford and Dwight Powell are all candidates for increased playing time, while Olivier-Maxence Prosper or Kessler Edwards could enter the rotation.
Nov 6, 2024
Downgraded to doubtful
Lively (shoulder) has been downgraded to doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Lively was previously considered questionable to play. With the second-year big man expected to be on the shelf, Daniel Gafford is likely to see a boost in fantasy value and minutes with Dwight Powell possibly getting an uptick as well.
Nov 5, 2024
Questionable for Wednesday
Lively (shoulder) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
The second-year big man is dealing with a right shoulder sprain, and the questionable tag suggests he'll be something close to a game-time decision. Lively has averaged 9.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks across 23.0 minutes per game in six regular-season outings, so losing him would be a huge blow for both head coach Jason Kidd and fantasy managers who have him rostered. If he doesn't play Wednesday, then Dwight Powell should see more minutes as Daniel Gafford's backup option at center.
Nov 4, 2024
Won't suit up Monday vs. Indy
Lively (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Lively was a late addition to the injury report due to a right shoulder sprain, and it is unclear whether he will miss additional time. The 20-year-old has been a crucial piece off the Mavericks' bench, and he has averaged 9.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks across 23.0 minutes per game in six regular-season outings. Lively's next chance to suit up will come Wednesday against the Bulls.
Nov 4, 2024
Double-doubles off bench
Lively had 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-3 FT), 11 rebounds and one assist over 20 minutes during Sunday's 108-85 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Gafford continues to start at center, but Lively has been putting up solid numbers off the bench, so the Mavericks' coaching staff keeps finding ways to have him on the floor regularly. Lively has two double-doubles in six appearances this season, and he's averaging a solid 9.3 points and 8.2 boards per game despite logging just 22.8 minutes per contest. He could be an automatic double-double threat if he were to see more minutes regularly.
Oct 25, 2024
Double-doubles off bench Thursday
Lively closed Thursday's 120-109 win over the Spurs with 15 points (6-8 FG, 3-5 FT), 11 rebounds, six assists and one steal across 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively outplayed Daniel Gafford, who got the start at center, showing a more efficient touch near the rim and making his presence on the glass at both ends of the court. As if that wasn't enough, the six assists tied a career-high mark for Lively, who could very well steal the starting gig off Gafford if he continues to put up numbers like these off the bench on a regular basis.
Oct 24, 2024
Coming off bench in opener
Lively will come off the bench in Thursday's regular-season opener against the Spurs, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Daniel Gafford will get the start over Lively. However, the 20-year-old will play a significant role off the bench and could be a candidate to enter the starting five later on, especially if injury concerns arise. Lively had a solid rookie campaign, during which he averaged 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks across 23.5 minutes per game in 55 regular-season outings.
Oct 23, 2024
Team option picked up for 25-26
The Mavericks exercised Lively's third-year rookie option for 2025-26, the team announced Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
After starting in 42 of 55 regular-season appearances as a rookie, it's no surprise Dallas opted to keep Lively around for another season on a rookie deal. The 20-year-old averaged 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game during the 2023-24 regular season and figures to share center duties with Daniel Gafford this season.
Oct 17, 2024
Heads to bench
Lively isn't starting Thursday's preseason game against Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
Lively is set to come off the bench in this one as the Mavs elect to deploy Daniel Gafford at center. Lively should still see plenty of chances despite the role change.
Oct 15, 2024
Fills the boxscore in loss
Lively closed with eight points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3PT, 4-6 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal in 24 minutes during Monday's preseason loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Lively got the start once again, chipping across the board in what was arguably his best performance of the preseason. Whether he starts or not come Opening Night, Lively is the preferred fantasy target when comparing him to Daniel Gafford.
Oct 10, 2024
Running with first unit
Lively is starting Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will get a look at center over Daniel Gafford in Thursday's exhibition. The Duke product looked solid in his last appearance off the bench Monday against Memphis, logging 12 points, three rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes.
Oct 8, 2024
Perfect from field Monday
Lively posted 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two steals over 14 minutes in Monday's 121-116 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Lively played just 14 minutes off the bench Monday, but he managed to connect on all five of his shots from the field. Lively was the Mavs' starting center for the first half of the 2023-24 regular season, but he ceded that spot to Daniel Gafford after the latter was acquired from the Wizards at the trade deadline. Lively will likely be the first big man off the bench for the Mavericks to start the 2024-25 campaign.
Jun 18, 2024
Quiet in Game 5 loss
Lively chipped in two points (1-2 FG), four rebounds and one block across 24 minutes during Monday's 106-88 loss to Boston in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
ANALYSIS
Lively struggled playing on the road in the NBA Finals, accumulating six points and 16 rebounds in three games. However, in two games in Dallas Lively posted two double-doubles. This more closely resembled the rest of his successful playoff run, during which he averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 blocks while shooting 66.7 percent in 16 games. Overall, the 20-year-old had a successful rookie season, and he will look to increase his production next year.
However, Lively posted a double-double in both games in Dallas. This more closely resembled the rest of his successful playoff run, during which he averaged 8.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 blocks while shooting 66.7 percent in 16 games. Overall, the 20-year-old had a successful rookie season and will look to increase his production in Year 2.
Jun 15, 2024
Another double-double
Lively contributed 11 points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds and one steal across 22 minutes during Friday's 122-84 victory over the Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
ANALYSIS
Lively might be coming off the bench, but there's no question he makes a substantial impact on both ends of the court. The rookie out of Duke owned the paint and was a massive factor in the rebounding battle that saw the Mavericks dominate the contest. To note, Lively is the first rookie to record multiple double-doubles in the NBA Finals since Magic Johnson in 1980.
Jun 13, 2024
Posts double-double in Game 3 loss
Lively finished with 11 points (5-6 FG, 1-1 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist and two steals in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 106-99 loss to Boston in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
ANALYSIS
Lively was limited to just two points in Games 1 and 2, respectively, but he bounced back in this one, and the rookie posted his first double-double of the playoffs since the May 18 win over the Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. The rookie was able to make an impact without Kristaps Porzingis (lower leg) on the court, and he'll aim to be a factor in Game 4 on Friday, where the Mavericks need a win to keep the series alive.
Jun 10, 2024
Muted impact in Finals
Lively registered two points (1-3 FG) and seven rebounds across 19 minutes during Sunday's 105-98 loss to the Celtics in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
ANALYSIS
Through two Finals games, Lively has totaled just four points, 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal with no blocks and four turnovers. Dallas has tried more Maxi Kleber minutes to combat the Celtics' floor spacing, but the results have been less than stellar. Game 3 will be on the Mavericks' home floor, where Lively is averaging 9.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 blocks in the postseason.
May 31, 2024
Productive in return
Lively posted nine points (3-3 FG, 3-6 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks over 25 minutes during Thursday's 124-103 win over Minnesota in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
ANALYSIS
Lively returned to action Thursday after missing Game 4 due to a neck injury. The rookie big man returned to his role of coming off the bench but splitting minutes at the center position with Daniel Gafford as a platoon. Lively averaged 9.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks in 22.0 minutes across his four appearances in the Western Conference Finals.
May 30, 2024
Available to play Thursday
Lively (neck) is available for Thursday's Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Lively participated in the Mavericks' morning shootaround and underwent his routine in the pre-game warmups, so it's unsurprising to see him available, as he looked active and had no apparent limitations in his movements. He'll see regular minutes off the bench, as he's logged 21.0 minutes per game in the current series while averaging 9.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
May 30, 2024
Present at shootaround
Lively (neck) was present at the Mavericks' morning shootaround ahead of Thursday's Game 5 against Minnesota, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup, but it was encouraging to see him on the court for the team's morning shootaround. The Mavericks will likely monitor how his neck sprain feels leading up to tipoff, while Daniel Gafford should continue to see increased playing time if Lively is unavailable.
May 30, 2024
Considered a game-time decision
Lively (neck) is considered a game-time decision for Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively officially remains questionable, and he plans to test his neck in the hours leading up to tipoff before the Mavericks determine his status. He'd provide a boost for Dallas as the team attempts to close out the series, as he averaged 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in 27.0 minutes per game over the first two games of the Western Conference Finals.
May 29, 2024
Questionable for Game 5
Lively (neck) is questionable for Thursday's Game 5 matchup with Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed Game 4 due to his sprained neck, but he does appear to be trending in a positive direction. We should get another update following Thursday's shootaround, but if Lively is able to return, Daniel Gafford's minutes would dip and Dwight Powell could fall out of the rotation entirely.
May 29, 2024
Could return for Game 5
Lively (neck) could return as soon as Thursday's Game 5 against Minnesota, Shams Charania said on FanDuel's Run It Back.
ANALYSIS
Lively avoided the concussion protocol and is apparently trending in a positive direction. If Lively is able to give it a go, Dwight Powell would be unlikely to crack the rotation and Maxi Kleber's floor would be a bit lower in fantasy formats. More clarity is expected on Wednesday afternoon after the Mavericks practice.
May 27, 2024
Ruled out for Game 4
Lively (neck) has been ruled out for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Chris Haynes of Turner Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was initially deemed doubtful for Tuesday's matchup due to his neck sprain, and he'll officially be forced to miss at least one game as the Mavericks attempt to close out the series. It's unclear whether Lively will be able to return if the Western Conference Finals continue past Tuesday or if the Mavericks advance to the NBA Finals, which begin June 6. Dwight Powell is a candidate to see increased playing time in Lively's absence.
May 27, 2024
Doubtful for Game 4
Lively (neck) is doubtful for Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Lively sustained a neck sprain during Sunday's Game 3 and was unavailable down the stretch. He wasn't seen at Monday's practice session and will likely be sidelined Tuesday as the Mavericks attempt to advance to the NBA Finals. If Dallas wins Game 4 to complete the sweep, Lively would have over a week to rest before the NBA Finals begin June 6.
May 27, 2024
Status for Game 4 unclear
Tests on Lively's neck came back clean, but his availability for Tuesday's Game 4 against Minnesota remains unclear, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
ANALYSIS
The initial diagnosis for Lively was a sprained neck, and the center will continue to be evaluated Monday. More clarity is expected Monday evening, but for now, Lively should be considered questionable for Tuesday's Game 4.
May 26, 2024
Won't return to game
Lively (neck) has been ruled out for the remainder of Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against Minnesota on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Lively sustained a neck sprain in the second quarter of Sunday's matchup after taking a knee to the back of the head, and he'll be unavailable down the stretch. Prior to his departure, he recorded six points (3-3 FG), three rebounds, two assists and a block in nine minutes. Whether he'll be available for Tuesday's Game 4 remains to be seen.
May 26, 2024
Deemed questionable to return
Lively is questionable to return to Sunday's Game 3 matchup against the Timberwolves due to a neck sprain, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was noticeably shaken up after taking a knee to the head and has been diagnosed with a neck sprain following initial testing. Dwight Powell will likely pick up minutes at the five if Lively is unable to return.
May 26, 2024
Suffers head injury
Lively suffered an apparent head injury with 8:35 remaining in the second quarter of Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals against the Timberwolves on Sunday, Mike Curtis of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively took a knee to the back of the head and remained down for several minutes. He headed to the locker room once he got up, but he was walking very gingerly. He'll presumably be evaluated for a concussion, and his status for the remainder of the game appears to be in jeopardy. Lively tallied six points (3-3 FG), three rebounds, two assists and a block in nine minutes prior to sustaining his injury.
May 25, 2024
Continues to impress
Lively logged 14 points (6-6 FG, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes during Friday's 109-108 win over the Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.
ANALYSIS
Lively was perfect from the field, and he continues to benefit from his close-range finishing ability by playing alongside two of the best passers in the league, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Lively is making his presence felt as an effective two-way threat in Dallas' postseason run, averaging 8.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 63.9 percent from the field across 14 playoff contests.

Stands tall in victory
Lively had 12 points (5-6 FG, 2-3 FT), 15 rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in 29 minutes during Saturday's 117-116 victory over the Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
ANALYSIS
Lively continues to play well above his age, producing when it mattered most as the Mavericks eliminated the Thunder. Despite coming off the bench, Lively played the majority of the center minutes, recording his second straight double-double. Dallas will face either the Timberwolves or the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals, both teams providing Lively with elite opposition at the center position.
May 16, 2024
Efficient off bench in Game 5
Lively totaled 11 points (3-4 FG, 5-6 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 23 minutes during Wednesday's 104-92 win over the Thunder in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been playing off the bench due to the solid play of Daniel Gafford down low, but the rookie out of Duke made his presence felt on both ends of the court Wednesday. Aside from missing just one shot from the field, Lively was active defensively and recorded the first playoff double-double of his career. Lively is averaging 7.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the postseason, and while he looked very good in this pivotal win, he's not expected to move to a starting role ahead of Game 6 on Saturday.
May 4, 2024
Close to double-double in Game 6
Lively supplied 10 points (3-3 FG, 4-8 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and one steal across 24 minutes during Friday's 114-101 victory over the Clippers in Game 6 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
ANALYSIS
Lively was perfect from the field, active on the glass and efficient in limited minutes out there. The rookie has shown he can be a valuable contributor on both ends of the court when called upon duty, but his fantasy upside won't be high if he continues to play off the bench.
May 2, 2024
Perfect from field Wednesday
Lively racked up 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block over 25 minutes during Wednesday's 123-93 win over the Clippers in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
ANALYSIS
Lively was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, outplaying Daniel Gafford despite coming off the bench. The Mavericks have the luxury of being able to lean on both players equally, providing them flexibility when one is outplaying the other. Lively and Gafford will once again be front and center when the two teams line up again Friday.
Apr 24, 2024
Sees 21 minutes in win
Lively contributed seven points (2-5 FG, 3-6 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 96-93 win over the Clippers in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Gafford started this game, but he was ineffective in just nine minutes of action. Lively had more success, obviously, but he didn't get a ton of burn either with Maxi Kleber and P.J. Washington soaking up the bulk of the frontcourt minutes. The logjam at center is far from ideal for fantasy purposes for both Gafford and Lively.
Apr 20, 2024
Not listed on injury report
Lively (knee) is not listed in the injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Coach Jason Kidd said Friday that Lively was trending in the right direction and was on track to play in Sunday's series opener, so this is not entirely surprising, though it does boost the team's depth in the frontcourt. Lively should see decent minutes off the bench, although Daniel Gafford is expected to be the starting center, as was the case down the stretch in the regular season.
Apr 19, 2024
On track to play Sunday
Coach Jason Kidd said Friday that Lively (knee) is trending in the right direction and is on track to play in Sunday's Game 1 against the Clippers, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed the final eight regular-season games due to a right knee sprain but returned to full practices this week and has avoided a setback thus far. If available, the rookie will likely handle a backup role behind Daniel Gafford, but Lively has proven to be an excellent fit in Dallas and should still play around 20 minutes per game in the playoffs.
Apr 16, 2024
Full go at practice Tuesday
Lively (knee) was a full participant during Tuesday's practice, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed the final eight regular-season games due to a right knee sprain, but it looks like he'll have a chance to play in Dallas' opening-round series against the Clippers. However, the Mavericks still have a few days before they release their official injury report, and we won't get clarity on Lively's status until then.
Apr 10, 2024
Will miss rest of regular season
Coach Jason Kidd said Wednesday that Lively (knee) is unlikely to play in any of the final three regular-season games, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie center still isn't practicing and has been sidelined since March 31 due to a right knee sprain. His status for the postseason remains unclear, but Lively will have extra time to rest and rehab if Dallas can win one more game and avoid the Play-In Tournament.
Apr 2, 2024
Could miss extended period
Coach Jason Kidd said Tuesday that Lively (knee) "could be out up two weeks", Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively is already set to miss Tuesday's contest with right knee soreness but is now in danger of missing most of the remainder of the regular season. Daniel Gafford, Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are candidates to receive increased playing time in the rookie center's absence.
Apr 2, 2024
Downgraded to out
Lively (knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss at least one game after suffering an in-game injury during Sunday's win over the Rockets. He's listed with knee soreness, and his next chance to suit up comes Thursday against Atlanta. In Lively's absence, Daniel Gafford and Maxi Kleber could see more minutes, but Dwight Powell should re-enter the rotation, as well.
Apr 2, 2024
Not present for shootaround
Lively (knee/lower leg) was not present for team shootaround in advance of Tuesday's game against Golden State, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively drawing a questionable tag Monday was good news after suffering an in-game injury during Sunday's win over the Rockets, but his status remains in jeopardy for Tuesday's contest. Dallas is cruising on a seven-game winning streak, but the team remains just 0.5 games ahead of the Pelicans for the fifth seed in the Western Conference, so Lively being unavailable would represent a sizable loss.
Apr 1, 2024
Questionable to play Tuesday
Lively is questionable for Tuesday's game against Golden State due to right knee soreness.
ANALYSIS
Lively was forced to exit Sunday's win over Houston in the first half after suffering a right leg injury, but he appears to have dodged any serious affliction. That being said, if he's unable to suit up Tuesday, Daniel Gafford could see an uptick from the 24.5 minute workload he has averaged across his last 10 appearances.
Mar 31, 2024
Won't return Sunday
Lively is out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Rockets due to a right lower leg injury, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively suffered an injury to his leg in the second quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game shortly after halftime. He concludes Sunday's contest with two points, two rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 13 minutes of action. The severity of the injury isn't clear at this point, but it is reassuring that he was able to return to the bench and watch the remainder of the game. His status should be considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Warriors.
Mar 18, 2024
Efficient output off bench
Lively chipped in 14 points (7-8 FG, 0-3 FT), eight rebounds and two blocks across 23 minutes during Sunday's 107-105 victory over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Lively made the most of his opportunities off the bench in this one, missing just one shot from the field, ending close to a double-double and making his mark on the defensive end as well. However, Lively will continue to have a hard cap on his upside if he continues to play off the bench, with Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington currently starting in the frontcourt.
Mar 14, 2024
Close to double-double off bench
Lively notched 12 points (6-8 FG), eight rebounds and two blocks across 20 minutes during Wednesday's 109-99 win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed just two shots from the field and came just two rebounds shy of recording a double-double despite logging just 20 minutes off the bench. Lively lost his starting role at the hands of Daniel Gafford, who's riding an unprecedented efficient stretch, but Lively should continue to see decent minutes off the bench. The move to a bench role certainly limits his fantasy upside going forward, though.
Mar 12, 2024
Thrashes Chicago
Lively produced 22 points (11-12 FG), seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals across 20 minutes during Monday's 127-92 win over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Lively and Daniel Gafford combined to post 20-for-21 shooting, which proved to be game-breaking efficiency in a blowout win. Gafford played 23 minutes compared to 20 for Lively, but -- especially against subpar opponents -- there is enough fantasy success for the duo cohesively. Monday represents a testament to how difficult Dallas' offense can be to contain as Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving continue building rapport with the big men.
Mar 10, 2024
Not on injury report
Lively (personal) is absent from the Mavericks' injury report ahead of Monday's matchup with the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed Saturday's game against the Pistons for personal reasons. He rejoined Dallas for Sunday's practice, which means this progression in his status makes sense. Barring any unforeseen setback, the big man should be available for his usual workload.
Mar 10, 2024
Back at practice
Lively (personal) rejoined the Mavericks for practice Sunday, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed Saturday's 142-124 win over the Pistons while tending to the personal matter, but his presence at practice a day later bodes well for his chances of playing Monday in Chicago. If available, Lively could be part of a messy three-man timeshare at center with Daniel Gafford and Maxi Kleber.
Mar 8, 2024
Listed out for personal reasons
Lively (calf) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Pistons due to personal reasons.
ANALYSIS
Lively appeared to suffer a calf issue late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's win over the Heat, but the injury doesn't appear on Dallas' official injury report. The rookie's next chance to suit up will come Monday in Chicago, while Daniel Gafford should start at center Saturday. Further clarity on Lively's status moving forward should surface over the weekend.
Mar 8, 2024
Exits late with leg injury
Lively suffered an apparent calf injury late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's 114-108 win over the Heat, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports. He finished with four points (2-3 FG), two rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes prior to departing with 33.1 seconds remaining in the game.
ANALYSIS
According to Afseth, Lively was struggling to put weight on his leg and limped to the bench when he checked out of the contest, but he looked to be walking around fine after the game. Afseth notes that Lively said he was kneed in the calf and will be re-evaluated Friday before the Mavericks determine his status for Saturday's game in Detroit. After starting in Dallas' last seven games, Lively came off the bench Thursday, but he still ended up seeing more minutes than his replacement in the lineup, Daniel Gafford (21).
Mar 7, 2024
Moves to bench
Lively will come off the bench for Thursday's game versus Miami, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks are rolling with Daniel Gafford as their starting center. Lively is coming off a disappointing showing against the Pacers on Tuesday in which he failed to score with just one rebound to his name in 16 minutes.
Mar 3, 2024
Plagued by foul trouble
Lively finished Sunday's 120-116 loss to the 76ers with four points (2-3 FG), three rebounds and one block in 18 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively picked up five fouls in his limited action, marking an uncharacteristic performance from the 20-year-old, who commits just 2.8 fouls per game on average. Coach Jason Kidd opted to lean on Maxi Kleber instead of Daniel Gafford with Lively hamstrung by fouls, but the rookie remains firmly atop the depth chart.
Mar 2, 2024
Listed available for Sunday
Lively (nose) is available for Sunday's game against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Lively showed up on Dallas' injury report, but he's listed as available. The rookie has appeared in six straight games (five starts) since returning to action following a broken nose, averaging 8.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 19.2 minutes during that stretch.
Feb 28, 2024
Good to go Wednesday
Lively (nose) is available for Wednesday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Lively has been upgraded from probable to available and will suit up for a fifth straight contest. Over his last four appearances, Lively has averaged 6.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in 17.3 minutes per game.
Feb 28, 2024
Expected to play Wednesday
Lively (nose) is probable for Wednesday's game versus the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Lively has appeared in four straight games since returning from his nasal fracture, and he's been carrying probable tags ever since. Fantasy managers should be expecting the rookie to suit up once again.
Feb 27, 2024
Good to go Tuesday
Lively (nose) has been cleared for Tuesday's game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Lively is joined by Luka Doncic (nose), Maxi Kleber (nose) and Josh Green (elbow) in gaining clearance for Tuesday's contest. Lively was held to just four points and four rebounds in 25 minutes of action against Cleveland on Dec. 27, and the Cavaliers' frontcourt being at full strength Tuesday represents a formidable opponent.
Feb 26, 2024
Expected to play
Lively (nose) is expected to play Tuesday against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Lively has appeared in three straight games since returning from his nasal fracture. He's played an average of 15.8 minutes in that stretch, posting 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals.
Feb 25, 2024
Officially active
Lively (nose) will play Sunday versus Indiana, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively, Luka Doncic (nose) and Maxi Kleber (nose) have all gained clearance to play in advance of Sunday's game against Indiana. Sunday will mark the second occasion that Dallas' frontcourt has been at full strength with the new additions of Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington.
Feb 24, 2024
Expected to play Sunday
Lively (nose) is listed as probable for Sunday's game versus the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Lively continues to deal with a nasal fracture but is expected to suit up for his third straight contest Sunday. However, the rookie center has yet to play 20 or minutes since returning to action.
Feb 22, 2024
Starting Thursday
Lively will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup with the Suns, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will replace Daniel Gafford in the first unit for Thursday's game, and it'll be interesting to see if this is something that lasts or just a matchup-based decision from head coach Jason Kidd. Joining Lively in the first unit will be Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, Josh Green and P.J. Washington.
Feb 22, 2024
Officially cleared to play
Lively (nose) is available for Thursday's game against the Suns, Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was probable for Thursday's matchup after fully participating in Wednesday's practice session, and he's officially been cleared to suit up as the Mavericks resume play after the All-Star break. In his return to action against the Spurs on Feb. 14, he came off the bench and totaled eight points, five rebounds, four blocks and an assist in 17 minutes.
Feb 21, 2024
Probable for Thursday
Lively (nose) is probable to play Thursday against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Lively should be available for Thursday's game and will likely flirt with close to 20 minutes off the bench. His upside has been hindered with the addition of Daniel Gafford, but as long as he's able to flirt with 20 minutes, that should be enough floor time for him to make an impact in fantasy hoops.
Feb 15, 2024
Solid in platoon role with Gafford
Lively (nose) recorded eight points (3-5 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four blocks and one assist in 17 minutes in Wednesday's 116-93 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Lively came off the bench and was on a minutes restriction in his return from a seven-game absence due to a nasal fracture for which he required a procedure, but thanks largely to his blocks production, he was able to deliver a quality fantasy line. Head coach Jason Kidd had previously suggested last week that Lively would reclaim the starting role once healthy, but it's unclear if those plans have changed in light of how trade-deadline pickup Daniel Gafford (10 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block in 23 minutes Wednesday) has performed since being acquired by Dallas. Even if Lively eventually displaces Gafford as the starter, the two could end up working in a roughly even timeshare at center that would put a cap on the fantasy value of both players.
Feb 14, 2024
Good to go Wednesday
Lively (nose) is available for Wednesday's game versus the Spurs, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been upgraded from questionable to available Wednesday after missing Dallas' last seven contests with a nasal injury. However, the rookie big man will operate under a minutes restriction, meaning he could serve as Dallas' backup center to Daniel Gafford.
Feb 13, 2024
Questionable for Wednesday
Lively (nose) is questionable to play Wednesday versus San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Lively appears to be nearing a return, although it would be contextually surprising to see the rookie suit up in the Mavericks' final contest prior to receiving seven days off over the All-Star break. Nonetheless, Lively's status will need to be monitored in advance of Wednesday's game.
Feb 11, 2024
Inactive for Monday
Lively (nose) will not play Monday versus Washington, Eddie Sefko of the Mavericks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss a seventh consecutive game while dealing with a broken nose. Maxi Kleber has been starting in his stead, but P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford are on the rise in the Mavericks' revamped frontcourt rotation.
Feb 9, 2024
Another absence coming
Lively (nose) won't play in Saturday's game versus the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Lively's absence streak will extend to six games Saturday due to a broken nose. The rookie center's next chance to suit up is Monday's matchup with Washington.
Feb 7, 2024
To remain sidelined Thursday
Lively (nose) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Lively will be unavailable for a fifth consecutive game due to a broken nose. He underwent a procedure to reset the nose Monday, but it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return to game action. His next chance to do so will be Saturday against Oklahoma City.
Feb 5, 2024
Won't return Tuesday
Lively (nose), who's already been ruled out for Monday's game against Philadelphia, won't join the team in time for Tuesday's matchup in Brooklyn, Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has already missed two games and will be sidelined for at least two more after breaking his nose. His next chance to suit up will come Thursday in New York, and he'll presumably have to wear a mask for at least a few games.
Feb 3, 2024
Ruled out Saturday
Lively (nose) won't suit up for Saturday's game against Milwaukee, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was considered doubtful prior to this update, and the Mavericks will be without their starting center for a second straight game. He'll also miss at least Monday's game against the 76ers, as he's scheduled to have a procedure to reset his nose.
Feb 2, 2024
Unlikely to play Saturday
Lively (nose) is doubtful for Saturday's game against Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
A previous report suggested that Lively would be questionable for Saturday's matchup, but he's officially deemed doubtful on the Mavericks' initial injury report. Regardless of whether he's able to suit up Saturday, he's been ruled out for Monday's game against the 76ers since he plans to undergo a procedure to reset his noes.
Feb 2, 2024
Iffy for Saturday, out Monday
Lively (nose) is questionable to play Saturday against the Bucks but will not be able to play Monday versus the 76ers, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively broke his nose during Monday's win over the Magic and didn't play Wednesday versus Minnesota. He was fitted for a mask, which he wore during Friday's practice, but the rookie wasn't overly thrilled about the idea of wearing it during a game. Lively also said that he'll undergo a procedure Monday to reset his nose, so he'll miss Monday's game even if he's cleared to suit up Saturday. Maxi Kleber (nose) and Dwight Powell would be candidates for increased roles if Lively's absence extends to multiple games.
Jan 30, 2024
Dealing with broken nose
Lively has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against Minnesota due to a broken nose, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports
ANALYSIS
Lively took a forearm to the face with two minutes remaining in Monday's win over Orlando, bleeding profusely but remaining in the game and making his free throws. Lively will be sidelined Wednesday, although he will have until Saturday to heal prior to the Mavericks' ensuing contest. Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell will likely soak up the majority of minutes at center in his stead.
Jan 30, 2024
Records double-double Monday
Lively recorded 20 points (8-9 FG, 4-9 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 41 minutes during Monday's 131-129 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Lively posted his second double-double in seven outings since returning from his five-game absence in early January, and even though the game-to-game performances continue to lack a bit of consistency, he's firmly entrenched as Dallas' starting center due to his two-way ability. Lively is averaging 9.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game since the start of January.
Jan 27, 2024
Strong showing in Friday's win
Lively contributed nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal in 28 minutes during Friday's 148-143 victory over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
The rookie center just missed recording his eighth double-double while posting his most rejections since he swatted away a career-high seven against the Thunder on Dec. 2. Since returning from a five-game absence due to an ankle injury, Lively has pulled down double-digit boards three times in five games, averaging 9.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.4 blocks in 26.4 minutes a night while shooting an eye-popping 80.8 percent from the floor.
Jan 18, 2024
Puts up double-double vs. Lakers
Lively totaled 16 points (8-9 FG), 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 28 minutes during Wednesday's 127-110 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Lively recently missed five games due to an ankle injury, and Wednesday's contest was just his second since making his return. The rookie center didn't appear to have any rust from the recent layoff, missing only one of his nine field-goal attempts and logging his seventh double-double of the season. Lively has been up-and-down as a scorer this year, but even when the points aren't there, he's typically able to make an impact with per-game averages of 7.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks through 31 contests.
Jan 15, 2024
Grabs 12 boards in return
Lively (ankle) recorded six points (2-2 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes in Monday's 125-120 win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Lively's minutes were somewhat capped after he picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter, but the Mavericks were presumably looking to manage his playing time to some degree anyway since the rookie was making his return from a five-game absence due to a left ankle sprain. On a fortunate note, Lively took back his starting spot from Dwight Powell and was highly active on the glass during his time on the floor. Lively makes for an appealing pickup in any 12-team leagues where he may have been dropped while he was sidelined with the injury.
Jan 15, 2024
Cleared to play Monday
Lively (ankle) is available for Monday's matchup against the Pelicans, Mark Followill of Bally Sports Southwest reports.
ANALYSIS
After being sidelined for five straight games due to a sprained left ankle, Lively will make his return to the starting lineup, pushing Dwight Powell to the bench. The missed time is beginning to pile up for the rookie, but he's playing well, averaging 10.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 assists when he sees at least 20 minutes.
Jan 15, 2024
Upgraded to probable
Lively (ankle) has been upgraded to probable for Monday's game against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Lively is trending towards a return to action after missing the past five games for Dallas. Assuming he gets the green light, Lively's return will push Dwight Powell back to a reserve role.
Jan 14, 2024
Questionable for Monday
Lively (ankle) is questionable for Monday's game against New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed the last five games due to an ankle injury, and it's unclear whether he'll be able to return against the Pelicans. If he's unavailable once again, Dwight Powell should continue to see increased run for Dallas.
Jan 13, 2024
Will be held out Saturday
Lively (ankle) will not play Saturday against the Pelicans, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dallas' starting center will miss his fifth straight game, and he should be considered questionable to return Monday in a rematch against the Pelicans. Dwight Powell will continue to benefit in Lively's absence and the Mavericks will have a bit more depth Saturday with Maxi Kleber (toe) cleared to return.
Jan 13, 2024
Downgraded to doubtful
Lively (ankle) has been downgraded to doubtful ahead of Saturday's tilt against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Lively originally drew a questionable designation for this contest after missing the Mavericks' previous four games. However, it now looks like he is on track to miss a fifth unless he has a quick turnaround prior to game time. Final confirmation on his status should come after he tests things out during pregame warmups.
Jan 12, 2024
Could play Saturday
Lively (ankle) is questionable for Saturday's game versus the Pelicans, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed Dallas' last four contests with a left ankle sprain. However, the rookie center's upgraded status is a good sign that he is nearing a return.
Jan 11, 2024
Officially ruled out
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Knicks, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was doubtful for Thursday's game and will be unavailable for a fourth consecutive game. Dwight Powell will likely remain in the starting lineup against New York.
Jan 10, 2024
Likely out against New York
Lively (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game versus the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Lively is expected to miss his fourth consecutive game Thursday while dealing with a left ankle sprain. If the rookie center is ruled out, Dwight Powell will likely continue to start.
Jan 8, 2024
Out again Tuesday
Lively (ankle) will not play Tuesday against Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his third consecutive game due to an aggravated left ankle sprain. Dwight Powell will likely continue starting in his stead Tuesday, with Lively's next opportunity to take the court being Thursday against New York.
Jan 7, 2024
Officially out Sunday
Lively (ankle) will not play Sunday against Minnesota, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively's next opportunity to take the court will be Tuesday against Memphis, but his left ankle is a troublesome injury to monitor after suffering sprains on two separate occasions this season. Sunday will mark his second consecutive absence, with Dwight Powell likely to start again in his place.
Jan 6, 2024
Unlikely to play against Minnesota
Lively (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game versus the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Lively is expected to miss his second straight game Sunday due to a left ankle sprain he suffered against the Trail Blazers. Dwight Powell will likely start again if Lively is ruled out.
Jan 5, 2024
Ruled out Friday
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Trail Blazers, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively sprained his ankle during Wednesday's blowout win over Portland and will miss the rematch. His next chance to suit up will come Sunday versus Minnesota. In Lively's absence, Dwight Powell should pick up extra playing time.
Jan 4, 2024
Questionable for Friday
Lively (ankle) is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Lively suffered a left ankle sprain against Portland on Wednesday and could be held out of Friday's contest. With Richaun Holmes (personal) doubtful, Dwight Powell could be left as Dallas' sole center available if Lively is ruled out.
Jan 3, 2024
Won't return
Lively (left ankle sprain) has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers. He'll finish the contest scoreless (0-1 FG), four rebounds, four assists, two steals and four blocks across 19 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Lively suffered a sprain on the same ankle that he sprained in December. While fantasy managers should certainly be keeping an eye on Lively's status ahead of Friday's rematch with Portland, Lively being ruled out so quickly could have been influenced by the lopsided score. Regardless, expect Dwight Powell to handle most of the center work, while Markieff Morris could see more minutes.
Jan 3, 2024
Helped back to locker room
Lively left Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers and went to the locker room after sustaining a left ankle injury, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed four games in December after spraining his left ankle, making Wednesday's injury cause for concern if he's unable to return. While he's out, expect Dwight Powell and Markieff Morris to see more action.
Dec 31, 2023
Records double-double in win
Lively notched 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds and one assist across 35 minutes during Saturday's 132-122 win over Golden State.
ANALYSIS
As a rookie, Lively's production is expected to be somewhat volatile, but the Duke product is earning a lot of confidence and has the keys to the center spot for Dallas. His two games prior to Saturday's effort are prime examples of how rocky his production is, so while any starting center should be considered for fantasy value, he's not quite consistent enough to be fantasy-relevant at this point.
Dec 29, 2023
Struggles against Wolves frontcourt
Lively finished with two points (1-4 FG), four rebounds and two assists in 15 minutes during Thursday's 118-110 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
After going for 20-and-10 against the Suns sans Jusuf Nurkic on Christmas, Lively has hit a wall over the past two games. Going up against Jarrett Allen in Cleveland and Rudy Gobert in Minnesota, Lively has totaled six points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 40 minutes while committing nine fouls. Fantasy managers shouldn't panic, as the rookie has been fairly inconsistent all year but has generally looked better as the season has gone along. Next up is a matchup against the Warriors on Saturday -- a potential get-right game versus a team lacking skilled size.

Posts double-double
Lively recorded 20 points (8-9 FG, 4-9 FT), 10 rebounds and one assist across 32 minutes during Monday's 128-114 victory over Phoenix.
ANALYSIS
Lively missed just one shot from the field and also made his presence felt on the glass, so it wasn't surprising to see him record his fifth double-double of the campaign. This 20-point mark tied his best scoring output of the campaign, and it seems he didn't miss a step despite returning from a four-game absence due to a sprained ankle. Firmly entrenched as Dallas' starting center, Lively is averaging 11.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game across nine December appearances.

Dec 25, 2023
Expected to play
Lively (ankle), who's listed as questionable, is expected to play in Monday's game against the Suns, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed four straight games since spraining his ankle during a Dec. 16 win over Portland. While he'll likely be available, it's unclear if he'll slide right back into the starting lineup, and it's probable he'll have his minutes monitored closely for at least a few games.
Dec 24, 2023
Status in question Monday
Lively (ankle) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Lively has missed the last four games due to a left ankle sprain which has his status for Monday's game in question. If he is unable to go, Dwight Powell will likely carry most of the load at center.
Dec 23, 2023
Won't return Saturday
Lively (ankle) is out for Saturday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss a fourth straight game due to a left ankle sprain. There remains no clear timetable for Lively's return. In the meantime, Dwight Powell will carry most of the load at the center position while Richaun Holmes could see some action as well.
Dec 21, 2023
Still out Friday
Lively (ankle) won't play in Friday's game versus the Rockets, NBA writer Marc Stein reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively will miss his third straight game Friday due to a left ankle sprain. Dwight Powell will likely continue to start in the rookie center's absence. Lively's next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with San Antonio.
Dec 20, 2023
No return timetable
Coach Jason Kidd said Wednesday that Lively (ankle) doesn't have a return timetable, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively sprained his ankle during Saturday's win over Portland and missed Monday's loss to Denver. He's already been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Clippers and will likely miss at least a few more games, but we'll continue to update his status game-by-game until there's a concrete update. Dallas is handling Kyrie Irving's (heel) injury similarly, and he's slated to miss his sixth straight contest Wednesday.
Dec 19, 2023
Will remain out Wednesday
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Clippers, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was sidelined for Monday's loss to Denver after spraining his ankle during Saturday's win over Portland, and he'll miss another game Wednesday. Dwight Powell started in Lively's absence Monday, but Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Markieff Morris and Greg Brown are also candidates for increased roles until the rookie center returns.
Dec 17, 2023
Won't play Monday
Lively (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game in Denver, Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively sprained his left ankle during Saturday's win over Portland and will miss at least one additional contest. Maxi Kleber (heel) also remains out, but Richaun Holmes is cleared to return following an illness. Dwight Powell, Derrick Jones and Grant Williams are also candidates for increased minutes at center.
Dec 16, 2023
Done for night with ankle sprain
Lively will not return to Saturday's game versus the Trail Blazers due to a left ankle sprain. He finished scoreless with two rebounds in six minutes.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks were already without Richaun Holmes due to an illness. Dallas is likely to play a lot of smaller lineups for the rest of the evening, and we could see more of Grant Williams, Markieff Morris and Dwight Powell.
Dec 15, 2023
Active on both ends Thursday
Lively totaled 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 32 minutes during Thursday's 119-101 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Lively was efficient from the field and is benefiting greatly from establishing a pick-and-roll society with Luka Doncic, as his above-average length and athleticism allow him to finish near the rim with confidence. The former Duke standout has been better than advertised this season and has settled into a starting role right away. He's averaging 9.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game over his last 10 contests.
Dec 12, 2023
Grabs 16 boards in win
Lively provided 16 points (8-9 FG), 16 rebounds, two assists and one block across 35 minutes during Monday's 120-113 victory over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Lively enjoyed a very efficient shooting performance, but his best work came on the boards, where he tied a career-best mark with 16 rebounds. The rookie is in the midst of the best stretch of his blossoming season, averaging 14.0 points and 11.3 rebounds over his past four games. He's added 3.0 blocks per contest in that span as he continues to grow into a force in the frontcourt.
Dec 3, 2023
Owns paint in double-double
Lively totaled 20 points (9-9 FG, 2-5 FT), 16 rebounds, seven blocks and one steal across 39 minutes during Saturday's 126-120 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Lively dominated the paint for Dallas, hauling in a game-leading rebound mark while leading all players in Saturday's contest in blocks en route to a double-double performance. Lively set season-high marks in points, rebounds and blocks in the game, notching his fifth game with 10 or more rebounds and his second double-double of the year.
Nov 28, 2023
Active Tuesday
Lively (back) will play Tuesday against Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Lively will return from a one-game absence due to a back contusion. He'll be a welcome addition to a Dallas frontcourt still lacking Maxi Kleber (toe). Dwight Powell and Richaun Holmes have un-inspiringly split part-time duties, so Lively should reprise his alpha center role.
Nov 27, 2023
Questionable for Tuesday
Lively (back) is questionable for Tuesday against Houston, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively was able to practice Monday, but the Mavericks are wanting to see how his back responds Tuesday before making a decision. Richaun Holmes drew the start in Lively's place Saturday against the Clippers, but he failed to impress.
Nov 24, 2023
Ruled out Saturday
Lively (back) will not play in Saturday's game against the Clippers, according to NBA writer Marc Stein.
ANALYSIS
The Mavericks are still calling Lively's injury a contusion, so hopefully this is just a day-to-day issue. Lively's next chance to play will be Tuesday against Houston, so the Mavericks are fortunate to have a couple days off after Saturday. With Lively sidelined, the Mavericks could turn to Dwight Powell and Richaun Holmes to pick up the slack.
Nov 23, 2023
Won't return after ugly fall
Lively has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's game against the Lakers with a lower back contusion.
ANALYSIS
Lively took a scary fall on an alley-oop attempt and was assisted off the court before being ruled out for the rest of the tilt. While he's out, expect Dwight Powell and Richuan Holmes to see more action. Fantasy managers should be on the lookout for a status update prior to Saturday's meeting with the Clippers at 10:30 pm ET.
Nov 19, 2023
Grabs double-digit boards in loss
Lively totaled six points (3-4 FG), 10 rebounds, two assists and one block in 24 minutes during Saturday's 132-125 loss to the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Lively turned in another decent performance despite the loss, continuing his impressive rookie campaign. Although he is typically playing fewer than 30 minutes, he remains the starting center. his production is likely to fluctuate based on both matchup and feel, limiting what he can do when viewed as a season-long asset. With that said, as long as he is starting, Lively should be rostered in most leagues.
Nov 16, 2023
Just misses double-double
Lively had 17 points (7-8 FG, 3-3 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in 24 minutes during Wednesday's 130-117 victory over Washington.
ANALYSIS
The rookie center just missed collecting his third double-double in 11 games to begin his career. Lively has had an impressive start to the season since being taken 12th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft considering that he doesn't turn 20 until February, and while his offensive skills still remains somewhat limited, his 1.7 blocks plus steals per game and 72.9 percent shooting from the floor give him fantasy value even in redraft formats.
Nov 10, 2023
Set to play Friday
Lively (illness) is available for Friday's game versus the Clippers, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been upgraded from questionable to available Friday after missing the previous game with a non-disclosed illness. The rookie center will likely reclaim his starting spot from Dwight Powell.
Nov 9, 2023
Questionable Friday
Lively (illness)is questionable for Friday's matchup against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
An illness prevented the rookie from suiting up Wednesday against the Raptors, prompting Dwight Powell to start at center. The Mavericks could certainly use Lively's size against opposing big man Ivica Zubac. Lively's workload and production has fluctuated this season, but he's worth rostering in 14-team formats and probably 12-team formats, especially if two starting centers are required.
Nov 8, 2023
Won't suit up Wednesday
Lively (illness) is out for Wednesday's game versus the Raptors, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been downgraded from questionable to out Wednesday due to an illness. Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell will likely receive extended minutes in Lively's absence. The rookie center's next chance to suit up will be Friday's matchup with the Clippers.
Nov 8, 2023
Questionable to play
Lively has an illness and is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Raptors, according to Mavericks reporter Grant Afseth.
ANALYSIS
Lively was not present at the morning shootaround, and it sounds like he could become a game-time call. Maxi Kleber (toe) is also questionable, so we could potentially see a lot of Dwight Powell on Wednesday evening.
Nov 6, 2023
Dominant in win
Lively supplied 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist and one block across 32 minutes during Sunday's 124-118 victory over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Lively supplemented Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combining for 41 points, 15 rebounds and 19 assists, as the big man showed off excellent chemistry with both. Lively protected the rim and sacrificed his body on defense as well, marking a legitimate two-way sparkpug for Dallas.
Oct 27, 2023
Moves into first unit
Lively will move into the starting lineup Friday against the Nets, according to Dallas reporter Grant Afseth.
ANALYSIS
It was a huge surprise to see Maxi Kleber starting over Lively on Opening Night, but Lively was far more effective than the veteran. After securing a double-double in his NBA debut, Lively's fantasy trajectory is pointing straight up.
Oct 26, 2023
Impresses off bench in opener
Lively ended with 16 points (7-8 FG, 2-3 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 31 minutes during Wednesday's 126-119 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Jason Kidd had stated that Lively could open the season as a starter, and while he came off the bench in this one, he still posted impressive numbers and above-average instincts for a player making his NBA debut. Lively can be an asset in most fantasy formats, providing he receives enough minutes, but as of now, his bench role limits his upside a bit.
Oct 25, 2023
Coming off bench in opener
Lively isn't in the starting five for Wednesday's season opener against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Lively had started for Dallas in the preseason and was projected to be the team's starting center, but Max Kleber will start over him Wednesday. Lively will likely still see an extended run off the bench and could earn his way into the starting unit with some solid play to start the season.
Oct 21, 2023
Nearly perfect from field
Lively accounted for 14 points (6-7 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, two assists and a block across 24 minutes in Friday's 114-104 preseason win over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Lively was a lottery pick in the 2023 NBA Draft but has impressed the coaching staff enough to lock up a starting role for Opening Night. His preseason numbers aren't eye-popping by any means, and he's expected to hold a secondary role on offense at the beginning of the regular season, but he made his presence felt here while showing his two-way potential.
Oct 11, 2023
On track to be starter
Lively is on track to be the Mavericks' starting center on Opening Night, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lively has started Dallas' first three preseason contests, averaging 3.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 19.1 minutes per game. While those aren't prolific numbers, the rookie understands his role and has excelled as a defensive anchor and rim roller. Per Afseth, the team believes Lively has shown enough to run with the first unit to begin the regular season. "Look at what Lively has done here on this trip," head coach Jason Kidd said after Tuesday's exhibition versus Real Madrid. "He's doing extremely well."
Oct 7, 2023
Three rejections against Minnesota
Lively scored two points (1-2 FG) while adding four rebounds, three blocks and a steal in 23 minutes during Saturday's 104-96 preseason loss to the Timerbwolves.
ANALYSIS
While the rookie center got bullied at times down low by Rudy Gobert, Lively still managed to make an impact on the defensive end. The 12th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft isn't necessarily guaranteed a starting spot right away for Dallas, but with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving (groin) carrying the scoring load, Lively likely just needs to hold his own at the other end of the court to maintain a significant role in the frontcourt rotation.
Oct 5, 2023
Getting start for preseason opener
Head coach Jason Kidd said over the weekend that he plans to start Lively at center in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kidd didn't commit to Lively or Olivier-Maxence Prosper maintaining spots in the starting five heading into the regular season, but both rookie first-round selections will get the chance to stake claims to spots on the top unit. If Lively is able to established himself as Dallas' top center, he likely wouldn't be in store for much usage while sharing the floor with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, but the 19-year-old could profile as an effective rim runner who converts the post touches he does receive at an elite rate. The 7-foot-1 Lively was also one of the NCAA's premier shot blockers during his lone season at Duke, swatting away 2.4 shots in just 20.6 minutes per appearance.
Jul 16, 2023
Perfect from the field in win
Lively posted 10 points (5-5 FG) and six rebounds over 23 minutes during Sunday's 101-80 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Lively was active in the paint once again, converting all of his shots around the rim. Although his numbers are nothing crazy, he is always making correct reads and impacting the game, especially around the rim on the defensive end. Lively will be an asset for Dallas in the pick-and-roll with star guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Jul 14, 2023
Nearly double-doubles
Lively finished with nine points (3-8 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-6 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and one block in 25 minutes during Friday's 112-91 Summer League win over Indiana.
ANALYSIS
Lively has been extremely active in the Summer League, making winning plays and outworking his opponents on the glass. His stats across four games do leave a bit to be desired from a fantasy perspective, as he's averaging 8.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.8 blocks through four games.
Jul 12, 2023
Double-doubles in win
Lively posted 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds and two blocks in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 98-96 overtime Summer League win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Lively recorded his first double-double of the Summer League on Wednesday. The No. 12 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft also showed off his impressive defensive potential, as he was altering shots at the basket all game. Lively could see playing time soon rather than later for a Mavericks team that needs rim protection and a lob threat to complement Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
Jul 10, 2023
Solid showing in win
Lively recorded eight points (4-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 11 rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes during Monday's 111-103 Summer League win over the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Lively just missed out on a double-double Monday but improved upon his previous Summer League performance. The rookie center's willingness to at least tempt a three-pointer was also encouraging.
Jul 8, 2023
Muted production in loss
Lively posted four points (1-2 FG, 2-6 FT), five rebounds and one steal in 17 minutes during Saturday's 91-80 Summer League loss.
ANALYSIS
Lively made his Summer League debut Saturday after being selected 12th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. While his aggressiveness to get to the free-throw line is encouraging, he will need to increase his efficiency from the charity stripe.
