He should be considered questionable to be ready in time for the 2025-26 season.

The lack of consistency in his role limits his upside, though.

He is a highly-efficient scorer from the perimeter and can chip in on the defensive end of the floor. Managers in deeper formats could certainly do worse if looking for a multi-cat specialist.

Williams will draw his second straight preseason start, as the Celtics will likely rest Al Horford once again. The 6-foot-6 forward posted four points, four rebounds and four assists against the Magic in his last start.

Williams was questionable coming in due to a sprained foot, but he's been removed from the injury report and will be available, should new head coach Ime Udoka opt to use him. Given the circumstances, it's very possible Williams' workload could be limited as the Celtics kick off their four-game exhibition slate.

Williams is an invaluable member of Boston's playoff run, but he doesn't have quite the same effect in fantasy. The second-year forward hasn't scored in double digits since March 22 and hasn't recorded more than one assist since April 4. On the plus side, the ex-Volunteer has recorded at least a block or a steal in five straight games. Williams is more than capable of providing an efficient fantasy night, but those performances are few and far between.

Williams will come off the bench for Wednesday's game against the Mavericks.

With Jaylen Brown back in the lineup after a one-game absence, Williams will return to his usual bench role. He's averaging 4.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 18.9 minutes per game this season.

Williams played 30-plus minutes for just the second time this season and chipped in some solid defensive stats. It was the fourth game this year in which the forward recorded both a steal and a block. Williams has had a consistent role off the Celtics bench this season but doesn't produce enough to be considered in most fantasy leagues.

Williams finished with 3 points (1-2 FG, 1-1 3Pt), one board, one assist, and one steal in 17 minutes of a 107-96 loss to the Kings on Friday.

Williams failed to find his stride off the bench putting up just two shots in the contest. He's managed to turn in solid efforts here and there in his reserve role, but the second year man appears to be a second option within the second unit. He'll face the Magic on Sunday.

Williams tallied 17 points (7-9 FG, 3-4 3Pt), four rebounds and one steal during Thursday's win over Toronto.

Williams was fantastic off the bench in 21 minutes, as the forward recorded his best offensive outing of the season with a new season high while draining three threes. Williams produced a total of just 21 points during the past 13 games leading up to Thursday which included five DNP-coach's decisions.

Williams will come off the bench Tuesday against the Jazz.

After a two-game stint in the starting five, Williams will come off the bench with coach Brad Stevens opting to start both Daniel Theis and Tristan Thompson in the frontcourt. When coming off the bench this season, Williams is averaging 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in 17.6 minutes.

Williams is starting Friday's game against the Clippers.

The Celtics are electing to start several big men against Los Angeles with Jaylen Brown (knee) unavailable Friday, and Williams will rejoin the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 22. Over his past five appearances, Williams is averaging 6.6 points and 3.8 rebounds over 15.0 minutes per game.

Williams scored 15 points (4-4 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 4-6 FT), grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots in a victory versus Golden State on Tuesday.

Williams has seen his minutes dip since flailing as a starter in mid-January and didn't play at all in Saturday's loss to the Lakers. However, he put together his best scoring effort of the season against the Warriors on Tuesday while playing 27 minutes. Williams didn't miss from the field despite all but one of his attempts coming from beyond the arc , and he contributed a pair of swats on the defensive end to boot. There's no reason to expect many more offensive performances like this from Williams going forward, but Tuesday's effort could at least lead to an increase in playing time.

Williams (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) posted two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and two rebounds in Friday's 124-97 win over the Magic.

Williams was placed in the protocol last weekend when he was determined to be a close contact of Robert Williams -- who tested positive for COVID-19 -- but the former only ended up missing one game after the Celtics had three consecutive contests postponed. After clearing the protocol ahead of Friday's game, Williams stepped into the starting five in place of Jayson Tatum, who also tested positive for the virus. Despite the enhanced role, Williams was unable to make much of an impact on the box score, as Jaylen Brown, Jeff Teague and Marcus Smart dominated the usage on the top unit in the blowout.

Williams will join the starting lineup for the first time this season after being cleared from the league's health and safety protocols. He's averaging 5.6 points and 3.6 rebounds over 19.1 minutes per game through his first eight appearances of the year.

In addition to Williams, the Celtics also picked up the third-year option for wing Romeo Langford and the fourth-year option for center Robert Williams. The 2019 first-round pick hasn't seen his role expand much thus far in his second season, as he's averaging 15.3 minutes per game through the Celtics' first four contests.

Just hours after having his rookie-scale option picked up by the Celtics, Williams found himself glued to the bench after a rough few minutes on the court. The second-year forward hadn't played fewer than 15 minutes in Boston's first three games, averaging 4.3 points, 3.7 boards, 1.7 assists and 0,7 threes with the second unit, so coach Brad Stevens was likely just sending him a message. The team has plenty of other young players pushing for minutes if Williams' level of play on the defensive end doesn't pick up, however.

Forget the box score stats when it comes to Grant Williams in Game 7. When Daniel Theis fouled out, the rookie provided vital defense in the closing minutes of the victory. Yes, he missed two needed foul shots. Per Kemba Walker, "Grant saved me" when Walker bounced a desperate in-the-key bounce pass to Williams on Boston's second-to-last possession. Williams fought off Kyle Lowry for the ball and drew the foul that led to missed free throws. Boston was still up three, though, and it was Williams who prevented Fred VanVleet from hitting a three that would have sent the game to overtime. As Marcus Smart said, "He's not even a rookie anymore, the way he plays."

With Jaylen Brown (hamstring), Kemba Walker (knee) and Gordon Hayward (knee) all inactive, Williams made his fifth start of the season against the Cavaliers. The end result doesn't look like much, but this is the rookie's best scoring output in ten contests and the most minutes he has received since late December. The Tennessee product is always a threat to fill up the stat sheet and if these three starters remain out for Friday's tilt versus the Jazz, Williams could start again and be a viable punt for daily-fantasy formats.

Don't look to the rookie Williams for gaudy stats. That said, the Tennessee product is a much appreciated "glue guy" for the Celtics. He makes the extra pass, hustles for loose balls and rotates well on defense. Despite only taking one shot attempt, William still had a plus/minus rating of plus-5 over his 22 minutes. Williams has appeared in Boston's last 34 games, with two starts, and has averaged 4.6 points, 2.9 boards, 1.2 assists over 17 minutes per contest. He should continue to see the floor Saturday versus Houston's small ball lineups.

Williams' playing time was back to just nine minutes Tuesday as the Celtics were able to field their go-to lineup for the first time in a while. Williams has the ability to defend multiple positions which gives him added responsibilities whenever injury strikes. He is just someone to keep an eye on in deeper formats, although his dynasty value is quietly improving all the time.

With Daniel Theis (knee) and Robert Williams (hip) both out, Williams saw some extra work as the Celtics' primary big man off the bench. The rookie is always a threat to collect multiple defensive statistics, but the 3-4 shooting from beyond the arc was a very pleasant surprise. If the Celtics' front-court continues to be depleted for Friday's matchup versus the Hawks, Williams should continue to see over 20 minutes and be a solid cheap play for daily-fantasy formats.

Williams is coming off the bench Sunday against the Pelicans.

The Celtics get Jaylen Brown back Sunday, but they're without Jayson Tatum, so there was a chance Williams could make another start. However, Brad Stevens opted to go with Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Brown, Gordon Hayward and Daniel Theis as his first five.
