Herbert Jones Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Trail Blazers vs Pelicans game on Thursday with our National Basketball Association injury report.Dec 8, 2025
Solid night in return from injury
Jones logged 17 points (6-10 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, four assists, one block and four steals over 26 minutes during Monday's 135-132 loss to the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones appeared in his first game since Nov. 21 after putting a calf injury in the rearview mirror. He was unable to connect from downtown but shot the ball well from inside the arc, and he also went perfect from the charity stripe. Jones' defensive effort didn't go unnoticed, racking up a team-high four steals in the tightly-contested loss.
Dec 8, 2025
Will play vs. San Antonio
Jones (calf) is available for Monday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones will shed his questionable tag and snap an eight-game absence due to a right calf injury. With the 27-year-old forward back in action, Bryce McGowens will likely slide back to the bench, while Micah Peavy may see a dip in playing time. Through 16 regular-season appearances in 2025-26, Jones has averaged 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals in 30.3 minutes per contest.
Dec 7, 2025
Questionable to face San Antonio
Jones (calf) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been upgraded to questionable and could snap an eight-game absence due to a right calf strain. If the 27-year-old forward returns, Micah Peavy and Bryce McGowens will likely see a dip in minutes. Jones has averaged 8.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals in 30.0 minutes per game over his last five appearances, though he could face restrictions if he's cleared to return.
Dec 5, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Jones has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss an eighth consecutive game due to a strained right calf, and it's unclear how close he is to returning. His next chance to play will come Monday against the Spurs. Saddiq Bey and Bryce McGowens should continue to see more playing time.
Dec 3, 2025
Out again Thursday
Jones (calf) won't play Thursday against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his seventh straight game on Thursday, and given that the Pelicans have not released any updates on Jones' progress in his recovery, he should be considered doubtful for Saturday's game in Brooklyn. Saddiq Bey and Bryce McGowens will continue to see major minutes for the banged-up Pelicans.
Dec 1, 2025
Still out Tuesday
Jones (calf) won't play Tuesday against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set to miss his sixth straight game Tuesday, and it's not a great sign that he's getting ruled out 24 hours in advance of tip-off. He should be considered doubtful for Thursday's rematch with the Timberwolves.
Nov 24, 2025
Out for at least one week
Jones (calf) will be out for at least one week, NBA reporter Marc Stein reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been diagnosed with a mild right calf strain, which held him out of Saturday's loss to the Hawks, and he'll now miss at least the Pelicans' next four contests. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on both Saddiq Bey and Micah Peavy in the interim, as both players could experience a rise in fantasy value.
Nov 23, 2025
Remaining out vs. Chicago
Jones (calf) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his second consecutive game due to a right calf strain, and his next chance to play will come Wednesday against the Grizzlies. With the 27-year-old forward sidelined, Micah Peavy, Saddiq Bey and Jordan Hawkins are candidates for increased minutes.
Nov 22, 2025
Ruled out for Saturday
Jones (back) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Hawks, Brad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will sit out the second leg of a back-to-back due to a bum back, but maybe he'll be able to get back out there for Monday's matchup with the Bulls. Saddiq Bey will likely start with Jones out and there will be more minutes available for Jordan Hawkins.
Nov 22, 2025
Questionable to play Saturday
Jones is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Hawks due to lower-back spasms.
ANALYSIS
Jones may have tweaked his back during the Pelicans' 118-115 loss to the Mavericks on Friday, when he posted seven points (3-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt), nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block over 32 minutes. If he's unable to play, then Saddiq Bey and Jordan Hawkins would be candidates to enter the Pelicans' starting lineup.
Nov 18, 2025
Rough shooting night
Jones racked up five points (1-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 26 minutes during Monday's 126-109 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones went 1-for-8 from the floor, continuing what has been a frustrating start to the season. While his steal numbers have been adequate, the other aspects of his game have left a lot to be desired. He has scored fewer than eight points in three of the past five games, despite playing at least 26 minutes in all five appearances. He remains a viable fantasy asset, albeit one who should be viewed as a specialist rather than an all-around contributor.
Nov 13, 2025
Drops 11 in loss
Jones had 11 points (4-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), one rebound, three assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 125-117 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Jones extends his streak of logging at least one steal to seven, and is averaging 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.1 blocks and 2.1 threes in that span. While Jones has not been producing flashy numbers, he has been quite efficient from beyond the arc, shooting 43.8 percent.
Nov 5, 2025
Scores 11 points in win
Jones closed Tuesday's 116-112 win over the Hornets with 11 points (4-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt), five rebounds, one assist and one steal over 36 minutes.
ANALYSIS
With Zion Williamson (hamstring) expected to miss at least one week, Jones could potentially see a short-term boost in offensive usage. But even on the nights in which he's not too involved offensively, most of Jones' fantasy appeal comes from his defensive upside and ability to knock down three-pointers.
Oct 28, 2025
Scores 11 in loss
Jones scored 11 points (3-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT) and added two rebounds over 23 minutes in Monday's 122-90 loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Jones' production may have been a victim of game script, as he and all the starters were likely pulled due to the blowout nature of the second half. However, he was able to bounce back in the three-pointers category, drilling two in four attempts after missing all five of his attempts Friday against the Spurs.
Oct 23, 2025
Flirts with double-double in loss
Jones amassed 17 points (6-14 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block over 36 minutes in Wednesday's 128-122 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Jones had an all-around performance on the stat sheet Wednesday, and its also worth noting he led all Pelicans in minutes played. If Jones can maintain these kinds of performances on both offense and defense, he will be a viable and desirable asset for fantasy managers moving forward.
Oct 10, 2025
Goes through practice
Jones (ankle) went through a full practice Thursday, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed the first two preseason games with a left ankle sprain, but Guillory notes that he's fine now. Presumably, Jones should be ready to go for Tuesday's preseason action against the Rockets.
Oct 4, 2025
Out once again
Jones (ankle) is out for Saturday's game against the Melbourne Phoenix, Erin Summers of the Gulf Coast Sports & Entertainment Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss a second straight preseason matchup as he nurses a left ankle sprain. It's unclear whether he'll be able to suit up at any point in the preseason, although he should have time to recover since the Pelicans' next game is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 14, against the Rockets.
Oct 3, 2025
Dealing with ankle sprain
Jones missed Friday's preseason game against Melbourne United with a left ankle sprain.
ANALYSIS
This is a new injury for Jones, but it's not clear how serious it is. Jones underwent surgery Feb. 12 to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, but he was deemed 100 percent heading into camp. For now, he should be considered questionable for Tuesday's preseason game against Houston.
Sep 22, 2025
Full go ahead of camp
Pelicans executive vice president Joe Dumars said Jones has been scrimmaging non-stop for the past couple weeks, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent surgery Feb. 12 to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, but he's been at "full speed" for a while now, Dumars said. This means he shouldn't face any limitations ahead of training camp. Jones averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals through 20 regular-season games in 2024-25, and he's currently penciled in as a starter alongside Jordan Poole and Trey Murphy.
Jul 10, 2025
Inks extension with Pels
Jones (shoulder) agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension with New Orleans on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will now be on the books for the next five years and has a player option for the 2029-30 campaign. He's currently rehabbing from shoulder surgery to repair a right torn rotator cuff but is expected back at full strength ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 season. Jones averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.9 steals through 20 games last season before suffering the shoulder injury.
Feb 26, 2025
On mend from surgery
The Pelicans announced that Jones underwent successful surgery Feb. 12 to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
ANALYSIS
Jones had the surgery performed in Los Angeles one day after the Pelicans announced that he would miss the rest of the 2024-25 season. Before going down with the injury Jan. 8, Jones appeared in 20 games and averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.1 three-pointers in 32.4 minutes per contest. He's expected to make a full recovery from surgery in advance of training camp in the fall.
Feb 11, 2025
Expected to miss rest of season
New Orleans vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said Tuesday that he expects Jones (shoulder) to miss the remainder of the season, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is still recovering from the posterior labrum tear in his right shoulder that he sustained Jan. 8. He was spotted getting up some light shooting in early February, but there was never any indication that he was close to returning. Considering the Pelicans don't have much to play for in the final couple months, it makes a lot of sense for the franchise to exercise caution. In 20 total regular-season appearances, Jones produced averages of 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.1 three-pointers.
Feb 3, 2025
Spotted getting up some shots
Jones (shoulder) was spotted getting up some shots at Monday's morning shootaround, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones remains without a timetable as he recovers from a posterior labrum tear in his right shoulder. This is a sign that he's trending in the right direction, however, as Guillory notes that this is the first time he's been able to do anything on the court since the diagnosis.
Jan 10, 2025
Out indefinitely with labrum tear
Jones (shoulder) has been diagnosed with a torn labrum, which will keep the Pelicans forward out indefinitely.
ANALYSIS
Injuries have ripped through the Pelicans all season, and now they've lost one of their best defensive players, with Jones being diagnosed with a posterior labrum tear in his right shoulder. There's no timetable for his return, which is devastating for New Orleans. Brandon Boston and Javonte Green could significantly boost in minutes due to Jones being on the mend.
Jan 9, 2025
Won't play against Philadelphia
Jones (shoulder) is listed as out for Friday's game versus the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss Friday's contest after suffering a right shoulder sprain against Portland on Wednesday. Brandon Boston and Javonte Green are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence. Jones' next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with Boston.
Jan 8, 2025
Won't return Wednesday
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers. He finishes zero points (0-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt), an assist and two steals across 18 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones suffered an unspecified right shoulder injury -- the same shoulder that he strained earlier this season -- Wednesday and won't return. Considering the Pelicans are trailing by 22 points with one quarter to play, it's possible they're playing it safe with Jones. However, his injury history warrants additional attention ahead of the Pelicans' matchup with Philadelphia on Friday.
Jan 8, 2025
Heads to locker room
Jones exited Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers with an apparent right shoulder injury, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed 18 consecutive games earlier this season with a right shoulder strain and it appears as though that same shoulder is bothering him Wednesday. The 26-year-old's absence should leave more minutes for Brandon Boston and Javonte Green.
Jan 5, 2025
Totals four defensive counters
Jones logged 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals across 38 minutes during Sunday's 110-98 victory over the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert made his usual impact as a three-and-D presence from New Orleans" first unit, hitting one three and collecting four defensive stoppers Sunday. Through his last 10 contests, the 26-year-old forward is now averaging 11.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.2 threes. Jones should continue absorbing additional playmaking responsibilities until Zion Williamson (hamstring) and Brandon Ingram (ankle) finally get back on the court for the Pelicans, but the extra usage might be hurting his efficiency, as Jones is shooting just 31.6 percent from downtown during this period.
Dec 31, 2024
Solid all-around performance
Jones had 18 points (6-10 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 33 minutes during Monday's 116-113 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has had rough outings over the last few games, especially in terms of scoring. However, he played well against the Clippers, missing only four shots on his way to 18 points, which could be a sign he's turning things around.
Dec 27, 2024
Stuffs stat sheet but shoots poorly
Jones closed Thursday's 128-111 loss to the Rockets with 10 points (5-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt), six rebounds and seven assists across 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones had a strong showing when it comes to the peripheral stats with his six boards and seven dimes, but the fact that he ended with more field goal attempts than points scored isn't the best recipe for success. The four-year veteran has scored in double digits in six of his last nine appearances since returning from an extended absence due to a shoulder injury. Jones should remain valuable in most formats, but particularly category-based ones, if he continues to mix up solid scoring performances with strong contributions in secondary categories, such as rebounds, assists and steals.
Dec 16, 2024
Busy at both ends of court Sunday
Jones closed Sunday's 119-104 loss to the Pacers with 19 points (6-17 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 5-5 FT), five rebounds, three assists and four steals over 38 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The 17 shot attempts were a season high for Jones, while the four steals tied his season best. The fourth-year forward has looked good since returning from a shoulder injury that cost him more than a month of action, averaging 14.8 points, 5.2 boards, 3.4 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.6 threes over the last five games.
Dec 7, 2024
Scores 24 points in loss
Jones supplied 24 points (8-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 6-7 FT), four rebounds, four assists and one block in 37 minutes during Saturday's 119-109 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones embraced a bigger role on offense following the exit of Brandon Ingram (ankle), and he responded by delivering his best scoring mark of the campaign. The absence of players such as Ingram and Zion Williamson (hamstring) could translate to a bigger role on offense for Jones, and the uptick in usage should bolster his fantasy upside -- as long as he remains healthy and available. He missed 18 straight games between Oct. 30 and Dec. 2 due to a right shoulder strain.
Dec 6, 2024
Logs four steals in return
Jones had 12 points (4-11 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, one block and four steals in 32 minutes during Thursday's 126-124 victory over the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Thursday was Jones' first game since straining his right shoulder against the Warriors on Oct. 29. He was inserted straight into the starting lineup and made most of his impact felt on the defensive end of the floor with a game-high four steals, and he capped off his night by clamping down Devin Booker in the final seconds of regulation. Jones' efforts helped the Pelicans snap a nine-game losing streak, though things won't get much easier as they face the 17-5 Thunder on Saturday.
Dec 5, 2024
Running with starters
Jones is starting Thursday's game against the Suns, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been cleared to make his first appearance since Oct. 29, and although he'll be on a minutes restriction Thursday, the club has elected to slot him back in with the first unit. As reported earlier, he'll log around 30 minutes in his first game back from a shoulder strain.
Dec 5, 2024
Will be limited Thursday
Coach Willie Green said that Jones (shoulder) will operate under a minutes restriction in Thursday's game against the Suns, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
jones will return to game action after an 18-game absence due to a right shoulder strain. However, he will be limited to around 30 minutes as he works his way back to playing form.
Dec 5, 2024
Suiting up against Phoenix
Jones (shoulder) is available for Thursday's game versus the Suns, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will return to action Thursday after missing New Orleans' last 18 contests due to a right shoulder strain. However, it wouldn't be surprising for the 26-year-old forward to operate on a minutes restriction as he works his way back into game shape.
Dec 4, 2024
Officially questionable
Jones (shoulder) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been sidelined since Oct. 29 due to a right shoulder strain and has played just four times this season, but the fact that he went through a full practice Wednesday bodes well for his chances of playing against Phoenix. The Pelicans are dealing with lots of injuries at the moment, so having Jones would provide a significant boost on both ends of the court, but mainly on defense, where he's one of the best specialists in the league.
Dec 4, 2024
Trending towards return Thursday
Jones (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday, with coach Willie Green expressing optimism that Jones will play Thursday versus Phoenix, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been sidelined since Oct. 29 due to a right shoulder strain, limiting him to just four appearances thus far. The Pelicans have limped to a 2-16 record without Jones amid a myriad of other injuries across the roster, although Brandon Ingram (calf) could return to action Thursday as well.
Dec 2, 2024
Remaining sidelined Monday
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Hawks, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his 18th straight game due to a right shoulder strain, though his status did upgrade to doubtful earlier Monday, which indicates that he is progressing through his recovery. Jones' next opportunity to play will be Thursday against the Suns.
Dec 2, 2024
Upgraded to doubtful
Jones (shoulder) has been upgraded to doubtful for Monday's game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who has been sidelined since Oct. 29, appears to be getting closer to a return with this status upgrade. With the amount of injuries the Pelicans have been dealing with, there will be plenty of minutes available for him upon his return. If he's held out Monday as expected, his next chance to play will be Thursday against the Suns.
Nov 30, 2024
Out vs. New York
Jones (shoulder) is out for Sunday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't played since Oct. 29, and he doesn't have a clear timetable for his return while dealing with a right shoulder strain. His next chance to play will come against the Hawks on Monday in the second leg of a back-to-back set.
Nov 28, 2024
Still out
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't played since Oct. 29 but appears to be nearing a return to game action after participating in non-contact parts of recent practices. His next chance to suit up will come Sunday in New York, but that's the first half of a back-to-back set.
Nov 26, 2024
Will remain out Wednesday
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss a 15th straight game Wednesday, but he appears to be nearing a return to game action after participating in non-contact parts of Tuesday's practice. His next chance to suit up will come Friday in Memphis, but he can likely be considered doubtful until he returns to full-contact drills.
Nov 26, 2024
Goes through non-contact practice
Jones (shoulder) participated in Tuesday's non-contact practice, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't appeared in a game since Oct. 29, though he appears to be trending in the right direction. While he hasn't been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Raptors, fantasy managers should consider him questionable at best since he's yet to take contact.
Nov 24, 2024
Still out for Monday
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't played since Oct. 29 due to a right shoulder strain and has not been cleared for contact work yet. The 26-year-old's next chance to feature will come Wednesday against Toronto.
Nov 21, 2024
Remains out
Jones (shoulder) won't play Friday against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Jones has not yet been cleared for contact work, so it's no surprise to see that he's been ruled out for Friday's matchup. His next opportunity to return will arrive Monday against the Pacers.
Nov 15, 2024
Still not cleared for contact
Coach Willie Green said Friday that Jones (shoulder) is back on the court but is still not doing any contact practice, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't played since Oct. 29 due to a small low-grade partial thickness tear in his rotator cuff. While Jones' initial timetable for return was 2-4 weeks from the beginning of November, it appears that his return will likely be toward the latter end of that timeline.
Nov 1, 2024
Extended absence incoming
Jones is expected to miss a minimum of 2-to-4 weeks aftersustaining a right shoulder strain and small low-grade partial thickness tear in his rotator cuff.
ANALYSIS
Jones suffered the injury in the second half of Tuesday's loss to Golden State, and this diagnosis will hold him out for a minimum of two weeks. The 26-year-old's status relies on his progression during treatment and rehabilitation, meaning he could possibly miss more than the four week timetable set by the Pelicans. Through four regular-season outings thus far, Jones has averaged 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.1 steals-plus-blocks across 28.3 minutes per game.
Oct 31, 2024
Another absence coming
Jones (shoulder) won't play during Friday's game versus the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his second straight contest while dealing with a right shoulder injury. With CJ McCollum (adductor) also sidelined, Jose Alvarado (back), Jordan Hawkins and Javonte Green should receive increased playing time.
Oct 30, 2024
Ruled out Wednesday
Jones (shoulder) will not play in Wednesday's game versus Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with a right shoulder strain -- which is a promising diagnosis as opposed to a dislocation of any type after his arm was fallen on while chasing a loose ball. Jones' next opportunity to take the court comes Friday versus Indiana.
Oct 29, 2024
Out for remainder of game
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for the remainder of Tuesday's game, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports. He will finish the contest with five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss the entire fourth quarter of Tuesday's contest while dealing with a right shoulder injury. His next chance to suit up will be Wednesday's rematch with Golden State.
Oct 29, 2024
Iffy to return Tuesday
Jones is deemed questionable to return to Tuesday's game versus the Warriors due to a right shoulder injury, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones tallied five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal Tuesday before exiting after Warriors Brandin Podziemski fell on his arm while diving for a loose ball. If Jones is unable to return, Jordan Hawkins and Javonte Green are candidates to receive increased playing time.
Oct 23, 2024
Returns to game
Jones (back) has checked back into Wednesday's game against the Bulls, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones briefly exited Wednesday's contest after suffering what seemed to be a back injury that stemmed from a hard fall early in the third quarter. However, he's been cleared to return to the game and has checked back in.
Oct 23, 2024
Heads to locker room
Jones went to the locker room during Wednesday's game against the Bulls with what seems to be a back injury, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones took a hard fall at the start of the second half after contesting a Nikola Vucevic layup. Jones was seen grabbing at his back before exiting the game and going to the locker room. With Zion Williamson (illness) already sidelined, Jones' injury leaves the Pels shorthanded in the frontcourt. Javonte Green and Yves Missi could see an increase in minutes while Jones is idle.
Oct 10, 2024
Could operate as starting center
Jones is expected to serve as the Pelicans' starting center this season, Shams Charania of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is one of the NBA's best defensive forwards but is now expected to operate as a small-ball center for New Orleans alongside Zion Williamson in the frontcourt. The departure of Jonas Valanciunas has left a gap at the position that could also be filled by rookie Yves Missi, but Jones' shot-blocking prowess at his size could earn him starting center minutes early on.
Oct 7, 2024
Starting against Orlando
Jones will start Monday's preseason game against Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Brandon Ingram is sitting out Monday's game for undisclosed reasons, but he's not injured. Jones could see increased run to open the season with Trey Murphy battling a hamstring issue. On a per-minute basis, Jones is a terrific source of steals and blocks.
Apr 25, 2024
Efficient despite loss in Game 2
Jones chipped in 18 points (6-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 36 minutes during Wednesday's 124-92 loss to the Thunder in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
ANALYSIS
Jones posted his best performance of the current playoff run, including the Play-In Tournament, but his efforts were not enough as the Pelicans suffered a blowout 32-point loss to fall into a 0-2 deficit in the first-round series. Jones has scored in double digits in just four of his 12 appearances this month, and this 18-point output was his joint-best scoring mark since posting a 19-point effort on Feb. 23, so he's not expected to carry the Pelicans on offense in Game 3 of the series Saturday.
Apr 16, 2024
Passive performance Tuesday
Jones finished Tuesday's 110-106 Play-In Game loss to the Lakers with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt) and two steals across 35 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones failed to have a significant impact in the loss, delivering serviceable contributions on both ends of the floor. Tuesday's loss will now see the Pelicans having to suit up Friday, where they will face either the Kings or the Warriors. Although Jones is a key piece for New Orleans, his production is something that typically fluctuates in both fantasy and reality.
Apr 6, 2024
Goes for 15 points Friday
Jones produced 15 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and three steals over 38 minutes during Friday's 111-109 loss to San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Jones finished with a solid performance Friday despite the loss, and he was able to contribute on both ends of the court with decent numbers in categories such as assists and steals. Jones has been a consistent do-it-all weapon for the Pelicans of late, averaging 11.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game since the All-Star break.
Apr 4, 2024
Shown walking papers in loss
Jones was ejected from Wednesday's 117-108 loss to the Magic after totaling six points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one assist and one steal in 41 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unproductive during 41 minutes of playing time before being ejected alongside Dyson Daniels and Trey Murphy. The ejection came with only seven seconds remaining and was another example of a referee doing wrong by the players. Jones will not miss any time as a result of the ejection and should be good to go against the Spurs on Friday.
Mar 27, 2024
Struggles with shot
Jones supplied 16 points (4-12 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 6-6 FT), two rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal over 31 minutes during Tuesday's 119-112 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones' primary responsibility Tuesday was slowing down Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (24 points, 9-20 FG), although going cold from beyond the arc stagnated the Pelicans' offense down the stretch. That being said, Jones emerging to knock down 42.5 percent of 3.5 threes per game this season appears sustainable, as the 25-year-old is knocking down 41.9 percent of his guarded attempts.

Three rejections in return
Jones closed Tuesday's 104-91 win over the Nets with 11 points (4-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, three assists and three blocks over 34 minutes.
ANALYSIS
After missing the Pelicans' prior game due to a hip/back bruise, Jones looked pretty healthy as he racked up three blocks for the third time in his last four contests. The third-year forward has seen his shot volume shrink in March however, and through seven games on the month he's averaging 7.9 points, 2.9 assists, 2.7 boards, 1.6 blocks, 1.4 threes and 1.3 steals despite shooting 54.1 percent from the floor.
Mar 19, 2024
Good to go against Brooklyn
Jones (hip/back) is available for Tuesday's game versus the Nets, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will return to action Tuesday after missing New Orleans' previous contest due to a contusion to his lower back/hip. He should replace Trey Murphy in the starting lineup against Brooklyn. Jones is averaging 10.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks in 31.9 minutes across his last 10 outings.
Mar 18, 2024
Probable for Tuesday
Jones (hip/back) is probable for Tuesday's game against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
This is an expected injury designation, as Jones was able to practice in full Monday after missing Saturday's game versus Portland. If he gets through warmups without any setbacks, he'll likely be right back in the starting lineup, with Trey Murphy moving to the bench.
Mar 18, 2024
Goes through practice
Jones (hip) was able to go through a full practice Monday, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unable to play Sunday against Portland after tweaking his hip and back after a fall during Friday's win over the Clippers. It sounds like he's trending in the right direction for Tuesday against the Nets, but there should be more clarity when the Pelicans release their injury report Monday evening.
Mar 16, 2024
Out against Portland
Jones (hip/back) will not play Saturday against Portland, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is a bit shaken up after a scary fall during Friday's win versus the Clippers. He was able to carry on in that game, but he's experiencing soreness Saturday and will be day-to-day going forward. Trey Murphy is likely to benefit the most from a fantasy perspective in Jones' absence.
Mar 16, 2024
Questionable against Portland
Jones is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Trail Blazers due to a lower back/hip contusion.
ANALYSIS
Jones is in danger of missing his first game since Feb. 2 on Saturday due to a lower back/hip injury. If Jones is ruled out, Trey Murphy will likely replace him in the starting lineup.
Mar 6, 2024
Hits five threes vs. Toronto
Jones registered 17 points (6-10 FG, 5-8 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists and two steals across 25 minutes during Tuesday's 139-98 win over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
Jones' five threes Tuesday was a season high for the 2021 second-round pick out of Alabama. His shooting from beyond the arc has risen to 43.6 percent on 3.6 attempts per game, both of which are career highs. Jones has scored 15-plus points in seven of his last nine outings.
Feb 13, 2024
All-around showing in victory
Jones provided 17 points (5-9 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and five steals over 35 minutes during Monday's 96-87 victory over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Jones led all Pelicans players in scoring and steals while connecting on a team-high-tying trio of threes and ending one rebound short of a double-double in a well-rounded performance. Jones has hauled in nine or more rebounds in two games this season while tallying a season-high-tying handful of steals. He has recorded at least 15 points an five boards in seven outings this year.
Feb 11, 2024
Posts 14 points in victory
Jones finished with 14 points (6-7 FG, 2-3 3Pt), four rebounds, five assists and three steals over 37 minutes during Saturday's 93-84 victory over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Jones' shot was on point despite the low total from the team, as the Alabama product missed just one of his seven shot attempts. Despite a firm grasp on the first-unit job, Jones' totals tend to fluctuate widely, making him an undesirable fantasy option. He's only exceeded 20 points twice this season and fails to produce significant secondary numbers.
Feb 6, 2024
Quiet in return
Jones supplied seven points (3-7 FG, 1-4 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and one steal across 22 minutes during Monday's 138-100 win over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Jones posted his 22nd game of the season with single-digit scoring, but he showed no signs of lingering groin soreness, which had cost him two games prior. Jones is hitting a career-best 39.2 percent of 3.5 threes per game this season, and represents a solid connective piece in the Pelicans' offense regardless of his scoring impact.
Feb 5, 2024
Back in action Monday
Jones (groin) will play Monday versus Toronto, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones returns from a two-game absence due to right adductor soreness. He is joined by Zion Williamson (foot) and Larry Nance (ankle) in being cleared to play -- bringing the Pelicans to full strength Monday.
Feb 5, 2024
Will be a game-time call
Jones (adductor) will be a game-time call versus the Raptors on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Jones was able to participate during the morning shootaround and said that he felt good afterwards. He'll warm up Monday evening and a final decision will be made right after.
Feb 4, 2024
Iffy for Monday
Jones (adductor) is listed as questionable ahead of Monday's game against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Jones is at risk of missing his third consecutive game due to a sore right adductor. On a positive note, Jones was able to log a full practice Sunday, so even if he is unavailable on Monday, a return seems to be coming soon.
Feb 4, 2024
Logs full practice Sunday
Jones (thigh) was a full participant during Sunday's practice, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed back-to-back games due to a sore right adductor, but he's trending in the right direction ahead of Monday's matchup versus Toronto. His status for that game should be revealed Sunday night.
Feb 2, 2024
Won't play Friday
Jones (thigh) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Spurs, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones continues to deal with a sore right thigh and will be unavailable for a second consecutive matchup. He'll have a few days to rest before the Pelicans face the Raptors on Monday, but Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall could see increased run Friday.
Feb 1, 2024
Questionable versus San Antonio
Jones (thigh) is listed as questionable for Friday's game versus the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones is in danger of missing his second straight contest Friday due to right thigh soreness. With Zion Williamson (foot) and Larry Nance (ankle) questionable, Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall could receive a hefty boost in minutes.
Feb 1, 2024
Partially participates in practice
Jones (thigh) participated in portions of Thursday's practice session, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Rockets, but it's encouraging that he was at least able to partially participate in practice a day later. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Friday's game against the Spurs. If Jones or Zion Williamson (foot) are sidelined again, Naji Marshall and Jonas Valanciunas should see increased run for the Pelicans.
Jan 31, 2024
Downgraded to out
Jones (thigh) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Rockets, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones and Zion Williamson (foot) have both been ruled out, so Trey Murphy, Dyson Daniels, Jordan Hawkins and Naji Marshall are all candidates for increased roles. This is Jones' first absence since Nov. 12, but he can be considered day-to-day moving forward, with Friday's matchup in San Antonio marking his next chance to suit up.
Jan 30, 2024
Questionable for Wednesday
Jones is questionable to play Wednesday versus Houston due to groin soreness.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with soreness in his right adductor. He hasn't missed a game since Nov. 12th, but Naji Marshall and Jordan Hawkins would be in line for increased usage if Jones is unable to suit up Wednesday.
Jan 24, 2024
Drops 22 points in victory
Jones accumulated 22 points (8-9 FG, 4-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals in 26 minutes during Tuesday's 153-124 win over the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Jones has largely struggled in recent weeks, but he turned things around Tuesday with an efficient performance in Tuesday's blowout win. While his performance against the Jazz was encouraging, he'll need to turn in a few more strong stat lines before fully regaining the trust of fantasy managers.
Jan 19, 2024
Mid-season struggles continue
Jones ended Friday's 123-109 loss to Phoenix with nine points (4-9 FG, 1-6 3Pt), three rebounds and two assists across 23 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones continues to struggle on both ends of the floor, failing to record a steal for the fourth time in the past five games. After his strong start to the season, Jones' production has fallen off a cliff over the past month. During that time, he has been the 160th-ranked player in standard leagues, averaging just 9.8 points per game to go with 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 combined steals and blocks. At this point, he should be viewed as nothing more than a category league specialist, albeit one who often struggles in his preferred category.
Jan 13, 2024
Struggles continue in loss
Jones finished with eight points (3-4 FG, 2-2 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and one block across 19 minutes during Friday's 125-113 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Jones ended Friday with another passive performance, continuing his recent struggles. After a hot start to the season, Jones has been unable to maintain his momentum, sitting well outside the top 150 in standard leagues over the past month. Despite the defensive upside, Jones should be viewed as nothing more than a steals specialist at this point, making him expendable in some 12-team leagues.
Jan 11, 2024
Drains four threes in rout
Jones logged 12 points (4-7 FG, 4-7 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 23 minutes during Wednesday's 141-105 win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Every one of Jones' seven shots Wednesday came from beyond the arc, and he efficiently made four of them. That tied the season-high total that he established three games prior versus Minnesota. Jones is averaging a career-best 1.3 triples per contest this season, though his strongest skill remains his defense. After picking up two blocks and one steal Wednesday, he's averaging 1.3 thefts and 1.0 swats on the season.
Dec 27, 2023
Night to forget Tuesday
Jones recorded four points (2-8 FG, 0-4 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and one steal in 32 minutes during Tuesday's 116-115 overtime loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Jones was disappointing again Tuesday, scoring fewer than eight points for the seventh time in the past eight games. While the scoring has been a real issue, his lack of production on the defensive end is perhaps the bigger concern. Over the eight-game span, he has recorded a total of just five steals and two blocks. For a player whose fantasy value is built on defensive numbers, the recent trend is not what managers want to be seeing. As of right now, he probably falls into the specialist category, meaning he can be dropped in standard leagues.
Dec 21, 2023
Will play Thursday
Jones (illness) is available to face the Cavaliers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans will be shorthanded in the frontcourt, but having Jones available should provide quite a boost on both sides of the ball, particularly due to his ability to defend multiple positions. Jones has started in each of his 25 appearances this season, averaging 11.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, and that figures to be the case again Thursday.
Dec 21, 2023
Deemed game-time decision
Jones (illness) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday's matchup against Cleveland, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with a non-COVID illness and is listed as questionable for Thursday's matchup, and the Pelicans will wait to see how he fares leading up to tipoff before determining his status. Trey Murphy, Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins could see increased roles Thursday if Jones is unavailable.
Dec 20, 2023
Iffy against Cleveland
Jones is questionable for Thursday's game versus the Cavaliers due to a non-COVID illness, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears a bug is going around the Pelicans, as Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas are also both questionable with illnesses. If Jones is ruled out, Trey Murphy, Dyson Daniels and Jordan Hawkins are all candidates to receive extended minutes.
Dec 20, 2023
Another poor performance
Jones amassed seven points (3-10 FG, 1-5 3Pt), one rebound and two assists across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 115-113 loss to Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Jones' downward slide continued Tuesday, scoring just seven points, while failing to record a defensive stat. As a player whose fantasy value is built on defensive production, nights like this are a real worry. After a hot start to the season, he has come crashing back to earth over the two weeks, sitting outside the top 250 in nine-category leagues. At this point, he should still be rostered but is only beneficial in specific situations.
Dec 18, 2023
Limited impact in blowout win
Jones notched two points (0-5 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, three assists and one steal across 19 minutes during Sunday's 146-110 victory over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones played a season-low 19 minutes Sunday with the Pelicans holding a comfortable lead, but Jones failed to convert any of his field-goal attempts and has now been held below 10 points in three of his last four appearances. During that time, he's averaged 6.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 24.8 minutes per game.
Dec 3, 2023
Delivers again in loss
Jones produced 17 points (4-11 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 9-10 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, one block and three steals across 36 minutes during Saturday's 124-118 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Jones delivered another strong two-way performance despite the loss, continuing his fast start to the season. He has been a top-40 player in standard leagues, thanks to averages of 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.3 blocks. In a nutshell, he is putting up career-high numbers across the board. Although the return of Trey Murphy is likely to have an impact, Jones should remain a must-roster player moving forward, given his importance on the defensive end.
Nov 26, 2023
Limited by fouls in loss
Jones contributed 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt), one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal across 26 minutes during Saturday's 105-100 loss to Utah.
ANALYSIS
Jones racked up three early fouls in the loss, at which point he was subsequently benched. While this is the usual course of action when a player is dealing with early foul issues, it may have in fact cost the Pelicans the game in this instance. He ended the game with three fouls in 26 minutes, raising the question of whether he should have been allowed to play rather than being forced to sit on the bench. In any case, he still managed to produce a solid fantasy line and remains a must-roster player across all formats.
Nov 21, 2023
Continues excellent play
Jones ended Monday's 129-93 victory over the Kings with 18 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 27 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Since returning from a three-game absence due to a fight fibula contusion, Jones has averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.8 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game. Those would all be career-high marks by a large margin, so Jones is clearly playing at a high level right now. The impending returns of CJ McCollum (chest) and Trey Murphy (knee) may impact Jones' usage, but he would still be a solid fantasy play due to his defensive prowess.
Nov 15, 2023
Pops defensively in return
Jones had 19 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT), four rebounds, four assists, two blocks and five steals across 31 minutes during Tuesday's 131-110 win over Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Jones returned from a three-game absence due to a right fibula contusion and didn't miss a beat. The defensive-minded forward excelled defensively, but he also submitted an efficient offensive outing, making it one of his best all-around performances of the young season. With Trey Murphy (knee) and Larry Nance (ribs) still sidelined, Jones should continue to play 30-plus minutes a night and can make a strong fantasy impact with his defensive prowess alone.
Nov 14, 2023
Back in action
Jones (leg) is active for Tuesday's game against Dallas, Grant Afseth of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones returns from a three-game absence due to a right fibula contusion. Dyson Daniels will likely return to a bench role Tuesday.
Nov 13, 2023
Questionable Tuesday
Jones (lower leg) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last three games due to a right fibula contusion, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return to action Tuesday. If he's unavailable once again, Dyson Daniels should continue to start.
Nov 12, 2023
Out again
Jones (leg) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Mavericks, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss a third straight game due to a right fibula contusion. Dyson Daniels should draw another start in Jones' absence. Jones' next chance to suit up will come Tuesday in a rematch against Dallas.
Nov 11, 2023
Iffy against Dallas
Jones (lower leg) is questionable for Saturday's game versus the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Jones is in danger of extending his absence streak to three games due to a right fibula contusion. If he's ruled, Dyson Daniels should continue to start in his absence.
Nov 10, 2023
Officially ruled out
Jones (lower leg) won't play in Friday's game versus the Rockets, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his second straight game of the season Friday due to a right fibula contusion. Dyson Daniels will likely draw another start in his absence. Jones' next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with Dallas.
Nov 9, 2023
Questionable vs. Rockets
Jones (lower leg) is questionable for Friday's game against the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed his first game of the year Wednesday, which was a blowout loss to the Timberwolves. Both Jones and Zion Williamson (personal) are questionable again leading up to Friday's action. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the team's injury report. Value could be available in daily formats.
Nov 8, 2023
Downgraded to out
Jones (leg) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his first game of the season due to right fibula soreness. The extent of the injury remains unclear, but his next chance to suit up will come Friday in Houston. The Pelicans will also be without CJ McCollum (chest) and Zion Williamson (personal), so they'll be extremely shorthanded versus a tough Minnesota squad.
Nov 8, 2023
Present at shootaround
Jones (fibula), who is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, was present for the team's morning shootaround, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While Jones hasn't yet been cleared to suit up against Minnesota, his participation in shootaround is certainly encouraging. He's played at least 30 minutes in each of his last four appearances, averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 32.3 minutes per game during that time.
Nov 7, 2023
Listed as questionable
Jones is officially questionable for Wednesday's game against Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Jones is dealing with right fibula soreness. He logged a full workload in Monday's loss to Denver, scoring four points in 31 minutes of action.
Nov 3, 2023
Huge defensive effort Thursday
Jones logged 21 points (6-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 9-9 FT), five rebounds, three assists, four blocks and three steals across 34 minutes during Thursday's 125-116 victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
The four rejections were a career high for Jones, while the 21 points were a season high for the third-year forward and the three steals doubled his total on the season. Jones' increased scoring came on a night when both Brandon Ingram (knee) and Zion Williamson (rest) were in street clothes, and he'll likely return to his support role when Williamson is back in action Saturday against the Hawks.
Oct 26, 2023
Nears double-double in win
Jones produced 13 points (4-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal across 38 minutes during Wednesday's 111-104 victory over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Jones scored in double figures Wednesday and tied for second on the team in rebounds while approaching a double-double. He averaged 29.5 minutes per game last year but saw plenty of playing time to begin the regular season with Trey Murphy (knee) sidelined. Murphy is expected to be out several weeks, so Jones could continue to see an uptick in minutes early in the 2023-24 campaign.
Oct 17, 2023
Playing after all
Jones (neck) is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's preseason game versus Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Despite initial reports indicating Jones would sit out Tuesday, he is listed as one of New Orleans' starters. However, he will likely play limited minutes.
Oct 17, 2023
Out despite recovery
Jones (neck) will not play in Tuesday's preseason finale against Orlando, Philip Rossman-Reich of OrlandoMagicDaily.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones suffered a neck issue during Saturday's preseason loss to the Hawks. His absence Tuesday appears to be precautionary, as coach Willie Green noted that Jones should be good to go for the regular season opener versus Memphis on Oct. 25.
Oct 15, 2023
Early exit with neck injury
Jones played only eight minutes in Saturday's preseason loss to the Hawks due to a neck issue, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
The defensive stalwart produced five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3P), two steals, one offensive rebound and one assist before calling it a night early. There's been no word yet from the Pelicans that Jones' injury is serious, so his limited workload Saturday may have been precautionary.
Oct 9, 2023
Slated to play Tuesday
Jones is expected to play under 20 minutes during Tuesday's preseason opener against the Magic, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Willie Green said all of the Pelicans' starters are expected to suit up and play under 20 minutes, so it should be a good opportunity for the first unit to develop some chemistry before the regular season. Jones has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the NBA over his first two seasons, but his offensive game remains a work in progress. With Zion Williamson healthy, it'll be difficult for Jones to make strides offensively, but he should remain an elite source of steals for fantasy players in category leagues.
Jun 30, 2023
Staying in New Orleans
Jones agreed to a four-year, $54 million contract to stay with the Pelicans on Friday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans declined his team option Thursday, but their plan was always to re-sign him to an extension. Jones is likely to play a big role for the Pelicans, as he's elite defensively but can also space the floor and facilitate on the wings. Last season, Jones compiled averages of 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 three-pointers.
Jun 29, 2023
Set to hit free agency
The Pelicans declined Jones' $1.8 million team option for 2023-24 on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While Jones will enter the summer as an unrestricted free agent, the Pelicans are reportedly looking to work toward a long-term extension. The 24-year-old forward averaged 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals in 29.5 minutes across 66 games in 2022-23. Jones' strong perimeter defense should garner interest from plenty of teams in free agency.
Apr 6, 2023
Submits career-high 35 in win
Jones tallied a career-high 35 points (11-21 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 8-9 FT) to go with seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks across 44 minutes in Wednesday's 138-131 overtime win over the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
After hitting the 20-point mark just once in his prior 27 games dating back to Feb. 2 and putting up double-digit field-goal attempts just four times over that stretch, Jones came out of nowhere to scale up his usage and improve his overall efficiency en route to a new personal-best scoring total. Given that Jones is shooting just 46.3 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from the three-point line for the season and typically handles a more tertiary role on the offensive end, fantasy players are probably best off viewing the 35-point eruption as a major outlier. Jones does have value as a streaming option on the defensive end, but managers who deployed him Wednesday were probably counting on him for steals production rather than blocks, as he's averaging a modest 0.6 rejections per game on the season.
Apr 2, 2023
Supplies well-rounded line in win
Jones finished Saturday's 122-114 win over the Clippers with 12 points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 7-7 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block across 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones reached double figures in the scoring column for the second time in seven games, and while fantasy managers aren't rostering him for his offensive contributions, he hasn't been producing eye-popping numbers on the defensive end of late, either. Even after making a mark in both of the defensive categories Saturday, Jones is averaging just 0.1 blocks and 1.0 steals in that same seven-game stretch.
Mar 29, 2023
Bounces back in steals column
Jones recorded 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), six rebounds, four rebounds and two steals across 35 minutes in Tuesday's 120-109 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Jones is rostered in fantasy leagues primarily for his contributions in the steals department, and after coming up empty in the category in Monday's blowout win over Portland, he was able to get back on track in the second leg of the back-to-back set. The second-year forward supplemented the steals total with solid production in the rebounds, assists and three-pointers, but he can't be relied upon to produce in all of those areas on a regular basis. He had turned in more modest averages of 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.3 treys in his prior six contests.
Mar 24, 2023
Falls flat Thursday
Jones chipped in two points (1-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and one steal in 29 minutes during Thursday's 115-96 win over Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who's been an inconsistent producer all season, failed to make an offensive impact for a second straight game. However, his defensive abilities have still been on full display recently, as he's notched at least one steal in 11 of his past 12 matchups. During that stretch, he's averaging 9.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.7 steals in 30.8 minutes with 50/34/70 shooting splits.
Mar 15, 2023
Scores 20 points Tuesday
Jones finished with 20 points (7-16 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 4-6 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and two steals across 34 minutes during Tuesday's 123-108 loss to the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Jones reached the 20-point mark for the first time since Jan. 31 and delivered a solid outing on both ends of the court despite the loss. Firmly entrenched as a starter in a struggling Pelicans team, Jones has scored in double digits in four of his last five games and is averaging 11.6 points with 5.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and a combined 2.1 steals-plus-blocks per game since the start of March.
Mar 13, 2023
Playing time recovers Sunday
Jones finished Sunday's 127-110 win over the Trail Blazers with 16 points (7-9 FG, 2-4 3Pt), seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
After foul trouble limited him to just 18 minutes one night earlier in a 110-96 loss to the Thunder, Jones saw his playing time and production pick back up Sunday in a major way. Jones has now eclipsed 30 minutes in six of his last seven games, and the numbers he's provided over that stretch (10.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.6 blocks per contest) has been solid enough to make him an appealing back-end roster piece in 12-team category leagues.
Mar 9, 2023
Making impact in elevated minutes
Jones finished Wednesday's 113-106 win over the Mavericks with 14 points (6-15 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 37 minutes.
ANALYSIS
For the third game in a row, Jones cleared 35 minutes, and while the poor efficiency from the field took some of the luster away from his stat line, he still managed to make a contribution in every major fantasy category save for three-pointers. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect anything more than low-end scoring production from Jones, but if he's going to continue receiving heavy minutes like he has so far in March, he should remain a premium source for steals. He's now notched at least one steal in 15 of his last 16 games, averaging 1.9 per contest during that stretch.
Mar 7, 2023
Teases triple-double in loss
Jones posted 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-3 3Pt), eight rebounds, eight assists, one block and one steal over 37 minutes during Monday's 123-108 loss to Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
Jones did a little of everything Monday, supplementing his 13 points with a team-leading eight assists while finishing second on the Pelicans with eight boards. The assist total tied a career-high mark, and the rebound total was his fourth-highest of the campaign. Jones' strength is typically his defense, and he chipped in there too, notching both a block and a steal. He typically won't score this much -- prior to Monday, Jones hadn't scored more than 11 points since Jan. 31 -- and he's really only rosterable in fantasy for his ability to post valuable defensive stats.
Feb 28, 2023
Minutes pick back up
Jones played 33 minutes and finished with 10 points (3-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in Monday's 101-93 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Despite not battling foul trouble in the Pelicans' previous game Saturday against the Knicks, Jones played just 13 minutes in that contest after New Orleans fell into an early first-quarter hole. Fortunately for Jones' fantasy investors, the suppressed minutes weren't the start of a trend, as he returned to his usual level of playing time Monday and delivered in the two defensive categories. Given that Jones is typically a below-average contributor in every other category, it's critical that he continues to receive heavy minutes so that he can produce consistent returns in steals and blocks.
Feb 25, 2023
Struggles again in loss
Jones had six points (3-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), three rebounds and two assists over 13 minutes during Saturday's 128-106 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Jones was terrible once again Saturday, continuing what has been a frustrating period for fantasy managers. Although he is just outside the top 100 for the season, his only positive category is steals. The Pelicans have lost four of their past five games and to say it hasn't been pretty is putting it nicely. While Jones will almost certainly be better than this, the fact remains he is buried when it comes to the offensive pecking order. If steals are not high on your list of priorities, Jones can be left for someone else to deal with.
Feb 16, 2023
Records five assists
Jones closed Wednesday's 120-102 loss to the Lakers with 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one steal across 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones' offense comes and goes, but he has scored in double digits in three of his last four games. As for his defense, Jones has been elite with an average of 2.3 steals and 0.6 blocks per game over his last nine contests. His minutes will remain high for the foreseeable future with Zion Williamson (hamstring) suffering a setback.
Feb 8, 2023
Fills up box score in win
Jones finished with 11 points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-5 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block across 40 minutes in Tuesday's 116-107 win over the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Jones narrowly put an end to a streak of three straight single-digit scoring performances, but fantasy managers aren't counting on him for much production on the offensive end anyway. Instead, managers roster Jones mainly for his contributions on the defensive categories, and he came through in both the steals and blocks departments Tuesday while also chipping in more boards than usual. With 33-plus minutes in five straight games, Jones looks to have moved into an even larger role than he held earlier this season, and he could be poised to maintain this level of playing time through the All-Star break while Zion Williamson (hamstring) remains sidelined.
Feb 1, 2023
Posts team-high 21 points
Jones notched 21 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 7-8 FT), four rebounds, four assists and five steals across 37 minutes during Tuesday's 122-113 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Jones' 21 points marked his best scoring total of the season. The Alabama product has served as an excellent multi-category contributor amidst the absences collected by Zion Williamson (hamstring) and Brandon Ingram (toe), and although he recently joined them on the injury report for four games, his 37 minutes of court time is a strong indication that the minute restriction imposed due to his back injury has been lifted.
Jan 26, 2023
Modest results in defeat
Jones closed Wednesday's 111-102 loss to the Timberwolves with four points (2-9 FG, 0-5 3Pt), five rebounds and one assist across 26 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones was inefficient from the floor Wednesday and was held to a single-digit scoring total for a second consecutive matchup while also failing to record a steal or a block in a game for the first time since Dec. 17. He's been inefficient over his four appearances since returning to the court, averaging 7.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 24.8 minutes per game.
Jan 20, 2023
Limited to 19 minutes in return
Jones logged 10 points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-4 FT), one rebound, three assists, one block and two steals over 19 minutes before fouling out of Friday's 123-110 loss to Orlando.
ANALYSIS
Jones slid straight back into the starting lineup Friday but was limited to just 19 minutes. Returning from a multi-game absence, this was the plan all along, meaning managers should have been adequately prepared. While his overall value is capped due to a lack of scoring prowess, his defensive ability means he probably deserves a spot in most 12-team leagues.
Jan 20, 2023
Starting despite restrictions
Jones (back) will start Friday's game against the Magic, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will receive the starting nod Friday despite having his minutes monitored for the contest. It's unclear what Jones' minutes cap is for the tilt but he should still be started in season-long category formats with Brandon Ingram (toe) and Zion Williamson (hamstring) absent.
Jan 20, 2023
Good to go Friday
Jones (back) will play in Friday's game against the Magic, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will return from a four-game leave due to a back contusion and should be in line for an increased offensive role with Brandon Ingram (toe) and Zion Williamson (hamstring) sidelined. His return will likely bump Dyson Daniels back to the bench and steal minutes from Garrett Temple.
Jan 19, 2023
Questionable Friday
Jones (back) is questionable for Friday's game against Orlando, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last four games due to a back contusion but seems to be making some progress in his recovery, as he's questionable for Friday's game after being listed as doubtful ahead of recent matchups. If Jones is unavailable against the Magic, Dyson Daniels will likely continue to start for New Orleans.
Jan 18, 2023
Ruled out against Miami
Jones (back) is out for Wednesday's game versus the Heat, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his fourth straight game after being downgraded from doubtful to out Wednesday. Dyson Daniels should continue to start in his absence. Jones' next chance to suit up is Friday's matchup with Orlando.
Jan 17, 2023
Nabs doubtful tag for Wednesday
Jones (back) is considered doubtful to take the floor Wednesday versus the Heat, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was listed questionable ahead of Monday's contest before sitting out, so the initial doubtful status for Wednesday marks an overall downgrade of his status. There's no information suggesting Jones has suffered a setback, so it's still best to monitor his health on a game-by-game basis. Dyson Daniels seems likely to draw another start, assuming Jones can't give it a go as the injury report suggests is likely the case.
Jan 16, 2023
Remains out Monday
Jones (back) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Cavaliers, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who was initially listed as questionable, will miss a third straight game due to a back contusion. Dyson Daniels will presumably draw another start in Jones' absence. Per Spencer Davies of BasketballNews.com, head coach Willie Green said Monday that Jones "is doing good," but it's unclear when the second-year forward will suit up again, though his next chance to do so will come Wednesday against Miami.
Jan 15, 2023
Questionable for Monday
Jones (back) is questionable for Monday's matchup against the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed back-to-back games due to a back contusion and is questionable to miss a third straight. If he's sidelined again, expect Dyson Daniels to draw another start.
Jan 13, 2023
Won't play Friday
Jones (ankle) is out for Friday's game versus the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his second straight game after being downgraded from questionable to out Friday with a back contusion. His next chance to suit up is Monday's matchup with the Cavaliers.
Jan 12, 2023
Questionable against Detroit
Jones (back) is questionable for Friday's game versus the Pistons, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is questionable Friday after missing the previous game with a back contusion. Dyson Daniels will likely remain in the starting lineup if he's unable to suit up.
Jan 11, 2023
Officially out
Jones (back) has been ruled out for Wednesday's matchup against the Celtics, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Jones has been ruled out for Wednesday's game after initially being listed as doubtful with a back contusion he suffered during Monday's win over Washington. In his absence, Dyson Daniels is a likely candidate to join the starting lineup. Jones' next chance to suit up will come Friday against the Pistons.
Jan 10, 2023
Doubtful to suit up Wednesday
Jones (back) is officially doubtful for Wednesday's game versus the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unable to rejoin the action after departing early Monday with a back contusion. That same issue will likely keep him sidelined for at least one more game, potentially opening a spot in the starting five for Dyson Daniels.
Jan 9, 2023
Unlikely to return Monday
Jones is doubtful to return to Monday's game against the Wizards after suffering a lower back contusion, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones fell hard during the first half of Monday's clash, and while he remained in the game temporarily, he was ultimately taken out for further evaluation. Dyson Daniels and Trey Murphy should see additional minutes with Jones unlikely to return in this one.
Jan 7, 2023
Strong two-way performance
Jones provided 16 points (6-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one block and five steals over 34 minutes during Saturday's 127-117 loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Jones was productive on both ends of the floor in the loss, racking up a season-high five steals and 16 points. With a number of primary options currently on the sideline, Jones is going to shoulder more offensive responsibility, at least for the short term. His fantasy value hinges on his ability to rack up steals but any additional offensive production is a bonus for managers.
Jan 1, 2023
11 boards, three steals in return
Jones finished with four points (2-12 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 0-1 FT), 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals across 28 minutes during Saturday's 116-101 loss to Memphis.
ANALYSIS
Jones provided solid contributions in the loss despite shooting a woeful 2-of-12 from the field. The 11 rebounds matched a career-high, and this was also the fourth straight game compiling multiple steals. His offense is going to be up and down but should he be able to find some consistency on the defensive end, he would slide back into being a must-roster player.
Dec 31, 2022
Full go Saturday
Jones will handle his typical workload Saturday against the Grizzlies, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was active but was reserved strictly for emergency situations Friday as he was continuing to return to competition conditioning but will be a full go Saturday. Jones has averaged 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 28.4 minutes per game this season.
Dec 30, 2022
Not starting Friday
Jones will dress but only play in an emergency situation, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is not expected to see the court despite being listed as available for the contest. He should remain on the bench and be considered out for all fantasy managers. Naji Marshall will draw another start in his place.
Dec 30, 2022
Available Friday
Jones (conditioning) will play in Friday's game against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Jones will return from a two-game absence after a bout with COVID-19 and should be expected to return to his typical starting role. Although there is a possibility of a minutes restriction considering the conditioning issue, New Orleans could use a near-full workload from Jones with Larry Nance (neck) and Brandon Ingram (toe) absent.
Dec 30, 2022
Game-time call Friday
Jones (conditioning) will go through warmups before a determination is made for his availability, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has struggled to get back into game shape following a bout with COVID-19 and will be a game-time decision Friday. Considering the contest is the first half of a back-to-back set, the Pelicans could opt to play it safe with Jones.
Dec 29, 2022
Questionable Friday
Jones is questionable for Friday's game against the 76ers as he attempts to return to competition conditioning, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been in the league's COVID-19 protocols for the Pelicans' last two games but is still not at the necessary conditioning level. His participation in Thursday's practice is certainly an encouraging sign, but Jones' status will likely not be decided until closer to Friday's tipoff.
Dec 29, 2022
Practices Thursday
Jones (COVID-19 protocols) participated in Thursday's practice session, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last two games due to the league's health and safety protocols, but it was encouraging to see him back at practice Thursday. The Pelicans play Friday against the 76ers and Saturday against the Grizzlies, but it's not yet clear whether Jones will be able to suit up for either matchup. However, he seems to be trending in the right direction.
Dec 28, 2022
Downgraded to out
Jones (COVID-19 protocols) has been downgraded to out for Wednesday's matchup against the Timberwolves, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was initially listed as questionable, but he'll ultimately miss a second straight game while in COVID-19 protocols. Brandon Ingram (toe) also remains out, so Trey Murphy, Devonte' Graham and Garrett Temple are all candidates for increased run.
Dec 27, 2022
Questionable vs. Wolves
Jones (COVID-19 protocols) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Jones may be able to return after just a one-game absence due to health and safety protocols. If he remains sidelined, more minutes should remain available for Naji Marshall, Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels.
Dec 26, 2022
Ruled out Monday
Jones has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Jones appeared in the last six games and averaged 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 29.0 minutes per game. However, he'll be unavailable for at least one game due to the league's COVID-19 protocols. Dyson Daniels (illness) is questionable, so Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall are candidates to see increased roles against Indiana.
Dec 24, 2022
Scores 15 points Friday
Jones recorded 15 points (4-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 7-8 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one block and three steals over 37 minutes during Friday's 128-125 overtime win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones has value for the Pelicans as a three-and-D threat on the wing, but the numbers hadn't been good enough to make him valuable in most fantasy formats. In fact, this was the first time he reached the 15-point mark since Nov. 18. He's averaging 10.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in December.
Dec 14, 2022
Struggles in Tuesday's return
Jones produced six points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and two assists over 20 minutes during Tuesday's 121-100 loss to the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Jones returned to action Tuesday but saw just 20 minutes in the loss. While he was on a minute restriction, managers would have been hoping for more than this in terms of production. It's been an inconsistent season thus far for Jones, coming off what was an impressive rookie campaign. His value is primarily tied to his defensive output, something that has been sporadic across the first quarter of the season. He remains a viable 12-team asset but is certainly not going to fit every team build.
Dec 13, 2022
Returns to starting lineup
Jones is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Jazz, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will replace Dyson Daniels in the starting five Tuesday after missing the previous five games with a left ankle sprain. The second-year forward had started in all 17 of his appearances before going down to injury.
Dec 13, 2022
Active Tuesday
Jones (ankle) is active Tuesday against Utah, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will make his return after missing the past five games with a lingering left ankle sprain. However, the forward will be a minutes restriction according to head coach Willie Green. Jones is averaging 10.6 points and 3.7 rebounds this this year.
Dec 13, 2022
On minutes restriction if available
Pelicans coach Willie Green said Jones (ankle) will have his playing time monitored if he's able to go in Tuesday's game against the Jazz, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is still listed as probable for Tuesday's game due to an ankle injury that has kept him out the past five games. His return will likely mean reduced minutes for Dyson Daniels.
Dec 12, 2022
Probable Tuesday
Jones (ankle) is probable for Tuesday's game against the Jazz, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last five games due to an ankle injury, but coach Willie Green recently expressed hope that the small forward would be able to return to action during the Pelicans' upcoming three-game road trip. The 24-year-old appears to be on track to return, which could lead to decreased playing time for Dyson Daniels.
Dec 11, 2022
Could be back for road trip
Head coach Willie Green said that he's "extremely hopeful" that Jones (ankle) will be able to return for the Pelicans' upcoming three-game road trip that begins Tuesday in Utah, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones and Brandon Ingram (toe) will miss their fifth and seventh consecutive games, respectively, when the two sit out Sunday's home game against the Suns, but both wings look as though they could be on track to return during the upcoming week. Whenever Jones and Ingram are both back in the fold, Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels are likely to move to the bench and see playing-time reductions as a result.
Dec 10, 2022
Out again Sunday
Jones (ankle) will not play Sunday versus the Suns, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set for a fifth consecutive absence while tending to a left ankle sprain. His next opportunity to suit up arrives Tuesday versus the Jazz, though the team has given no clear indication of when it expects him back in uniform.
Dec 8, 2022
Remains sidelined Friday
Jones (ankle) is out Friday's game against the Suns, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss his fourth straight game Friday due to a left ankle sprain. Dyson Daniels has started all three games in his absence. Jones' next opportunity to play is Sunday's game against Phoenix.
Dec 7, 2022
Won't suit up Wednesday
Jones (ankle) will not play in Wednesday's game versus the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Jones' doubtful designation on the initial injury report had him trending in this direction anyway, but Jones will officially miss his third straight contest Wednesday. His next chance to suit up arrives Friday against the Suns. Meanwhile, Dyson Daniels will likely line up for another start.
Dec 6, 2022
Likely out versus Detroit
Jones (ankle) is Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com for Wednesday's game against the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set to miss his third straight game Wednesday due to a left ankle sprain. Dyson Daniels, Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall should continue to see extended minutes in his absence. Jones' next chance to play is Friday's game against Phoenix if he can't go versus the Pistons.
Dec 6, 2022
No practice participation Tuesday
Jones (ankle) didn't practice Tuesday, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last two games and seems to be trending toward a third straight Wednesday based on his level of practice participation. The team should provide more clarity on that front later in the day Tuesday when it releases the injury report.
Dec 3, 2022
Out Sunday
Jones (ankle) is out Sunday against the Nuggets, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones and Brandon Ingram (toe) remain sidelined Sunday, so Trey Murphy and Dyson Daniels figure to start again. Jones' next chance to play arrives Wednesday against the Pistons.
Dec 1, 2022
Officially out Friday
Jones (ankle) was ruled out for Friday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Jones will not take the floor for Friday's game after suffering an ankle injury in Wednesday's game against the Raptors. Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall (illness) will likely see more playing time Friday. Jones' next chance to play will come on Sunday against the Nuggets.
Dec 1, 2022
Unlikely to play Friday
Pelicans coach Willie Green said Jones (ankle) didn't practice Thursday and is unlikely to play in Thursday's game versus the Spurs, Andrew Lopez reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will likely miss his first game since Nov. 2 due to a left ankle injury he suffered in Wednesday's game against Toronto. Trey Murphy will likely see extended playing time in his absence. Jones' next chance to play will be Sunday's game against the Nuggets if he's unavailable Friday.
Nov 30, 2022
Ruled out Wednesday
Jones won't return to Wednesday's game against Toronto due to left ankle soreness.
ANALYSIS
Jones posted 12 points, four rebounds and one assist across 20 minutes before heading to the locker room. Jones' injury doesn't appear to be too severe, as the Pelicans are probably exercising caution due to being up big on the Raptors late in the third quarter.
Nov 29, 2022
Has stellar defensive performance
Jones totaled 12 points (4-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-5 FT), three rebounds, three assists, three blocks and four steals in 39 minutes during Monday's 105-101 win over Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Jones finished in double figures for his second straight contest and also put together an impressive showing on defense. He swatted away three shots for the second time this season, and he tallied a season-high four steals on the way to a four-point victory. Jones is averaging 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists through 16 games this year.
Nov 23, 2022
Muted effort in victory
Jones finished with nine points (3-7 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one block in 19 minutes during Wednesday's 129-110 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Jones was limited to just 19 minutes in the win, a victim of both the scoreline and some solid shooting off the bench. After putting together a nice stretch of games, Jones has slowed over the past two, causing angst for managers everywhere. With that said, his role appears relatively safe and his upside in steals alone makes him a solid hold in standard leagues.
Nov 19, 2022
Puts up 17 points in loss
Jones finished with 17 points (7-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, three steals and two assists across 36 minutes in Friday's 117-109 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Since returning from a four-game absence earlier this month, Jones has quietly re-emerged as a reliable complementary piece for the Pelicans. In his last nine games, he's averaging 12.1 points (on 51.3 percent shooting from the field) 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.6 steals, 0.8 three-pointers and 0.2 blocks in 29.3 minutes per contest. Jones' contributions in the steals category continues to drive most of his fantasy value, but his offensive production has been trending upward of late with Zion Williamson (foot) has missed the past three contests.
Nov 5, 2022
Impressive all-around showing
Jones registered 19 points (7-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 5-9 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and three steals over 34 minutes during Saturday's 124-121 overtime loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Jones set a new season-high in points and rebounds, as he's struggled to settle in after missing four of his team's first eight games prior to Saturday's tilt due to a knee injury. However, his performance against Atlanta is a positive sign for fantasy managers, and he should have plenty of opportunities to build this performance within the next week.
Nov 5, 2022
Totals three steals in return
Jones logged four points (1-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, two assists and three steals over 29 minutes during Friday's 114-105 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Jones moved straight into the starting lineup Friday, returning after missing the past four games due to a knee injury. While he did manage just four points, he dialed things up on the defensive end, recording a season-high three steals. Anyone who drafted him this season did so in the hope he could bolster their steal numbers. Up until this game, he had failed to record a single steal and so this was certainly a welcome sight.
Nov 4, 2022
Will return Friday
Jones will play Friday against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Jones will return to action Friday following a four-game absence due to a knee injury. The second-year forward is expected to reclaim a spot in the starting lineup, but he may be limited to under 30 minutes during his first game action since Oct. 23.
Nov 3, 2022
Probable vs. Warriors
Jones (knee) is probable for Friday's game against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
After a four-game absence, Jones is expected to be back. However, the return coincides with the expected return of Brandon Ingram (concussion). Trey Murphy has also looked great in Jones' absence. Jones will probably re-join the starters, but his workload could take a hit.
Nov 2, 2022
Out Wednesday
Jones (knee) won't play in Wednesday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Jones was originally expected to return from his lingering knee injury Wednesday, but he'll now officially have to wait at least one more game. The forward will likely be tabbed questionable once again for the team's next matchup Friday versus Golden State.
Nov 2, 2022
Downgraded to questionable
Jones (knee) is questionable to play in Wednesday's game versus the Lakers,
ANALYSIS
Jones was previously listed as probable to play Wednesday after missing three consecutive games due to a hyperextended knee. If Jones is unable to play, expect Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall to continue to receive extended playing time.
Nov 1, 2022
Likely to play Wednesday
Jones (knee) is listed as probable for Wednesday's game versus the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Jones is set to return Wednesday after missing three straight games due to a hyperextended knee. Jones started in the Pelicans' first three games this season, but the team may ease him back into action.
Oct 30, 2022
Remains out Sunday
Jones (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Clippers, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will miss a third straight game after hyperextending his right knee. Zion Williamson is expected to return Sunday after missing two games due to a hip injury, but Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall should both still see solid roles in Jones' absence.
Oct 29, 2022
Game-time call Sunday
Jones (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Clippers, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones joins teammate Zion Williamson (hip) as a game-time decision Sunday, after missing the Pelicans previous two games due to a hyperextended knee. His availability will largely depend upon how he feels after going through warmups as an early tip-off will hamper any chances of ramping up throughout the day.
Oct 28, 2022
Ruled out Friday
Jones (knee) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Suns, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was considered a game-time decision but will ultimately miss a second straight game due to a knee injury. Zion Williamson (hip) and Brandon Ingram (concussion) are also out, so Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall will likely remain in the starting lineup. However, CJ McCollum figures to be the Pelicans' go-to playmaker.
Oct 28, 2022
Considered game-time decision
Jones (knee) is considered a game-time decision ahead of Friday's matchup against the Suns, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed Tuesday's game against the Mavericks due to a hyperextended right knee and will likely test things out during pregame warmups before the Pelicans determine his status for Friday's contest. If he's unable to play, Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall should see increased run.
Oct 27, 2022
Deemed questionable Friday
Jones (knee) is questionable for Friday's game against Phoenix, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was one of several Pelicans who sat out Tuesday's game against the Mavericks, but he was a limited participant during Thursday's practice session. Even if he's forced to miss Friday's matchup, it doesn't appear as though he'll be in line for a significant absence.
Oct 25, 2022
Could return Friday
Pelicans coach Willie Green said he is optimistic that Jones (knee) could come back for the team's upcoming road trip that starts Friday versus the Suns, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones hyperextended his right knee during Sunday's loss to Utah. While he is still out Tuesday, his potential return Friday is a good sign that the second-year forward has avoided a serious injury. Trey Murphy, Naji Marshall and Dyson Daniels should all see extended minutes until Jones returns.
Oct 25, 2022
Ruled out Tuesday
Jones (knee) has been ruled out for Tuesday's contest against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Jones banged knees with an opponent during Sunday's loss to Utah and is listed as out for Tuesday's contest due to a hyperextension of his right knee. Brandon Ingram (concussion) and Zion Williamson (hip/back) are also out, so CJ McCollum will presumably have to lead the Pelicans offense against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. Jones' next chance to suit up will come Friday against the Suns, but his availability moving forward is currently unclear.
Oct 24, 2022
Questionable for Tuesday's contest
Jones (knee) is questionable for Tuesday's contest against the Mavericks, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Summers, Jones banged his knee during Sunday's contest against Utah, though it didn't appear to impact him as he scored nine points across 35 minutes -- both season highs. Regardless, New Orleans likely will operate with the utmost caution, which may mean keeping the second-year forward sidelined for a game or two. Zion Williamson (hip) and Brandon Ingram (head) are also questionable, so it's possible the Pelicans will be without three starters for their showdown with Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.
Oct 22, 2022
Turns in another quiet night
Jones ended with seven points (2-3 FG, 3-3 FT), two rebounds, two assists and two blocks across 32 minutes during Friday's 124-112 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Jones was efficient in his limited opportunities, as Jonas Valanciunas, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson stole the show on offense. He's attempted just 10 shots through his first two games of the season but has logged 28 and 32 minutes, respectively. It's also worth noting he's swatted three shots in two games to kick off the new campaign.
Oct 14, 2022
Decent showing in preseason finale
Jones logged 24 minutes and registered 12 points (5-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds and one steal in Friday's preseason game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Jones saw a healthy dose of playing time in his squad's final preseason contest and appeared ready for the 2022 campaign after his October was interrupted by a nagging rib injury. He's in line to open the regular season as the Pelicans' starter at small forward, with Zion Williamson and Jonas Valanciunas rounding out the frontcourt.
Oct 14, 2022
Back in starting lineup Friday
Jones will start Friday's preseason finale against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Jones came off the bench during Wednesday's exhibition, but he'll return to his usual starting role Friday. The 6-foot-7 forward posted 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals across 78 appearances as a rookie and solidified himself as an elite defender.
Oct 9, 2022
Starting Sunday
Jones (ribs) is starting Sunday's preseason game against the Spurs, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was questionable for Sunday's matchup due to a bruised rib, but he'll be able to play through the issue. He tallied eight points and two assists in 12 minutes prior to leaving Tuesday's exhibition game against the Bulls.
Oct 8, 2022
Questionable Sunday
Jones (ribs) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones left Tuesday's game against the Bulls due to a bruised rib. Even if he's out Sunday, his questionable tag implies he should be fine for the regular season.
Oct 8, 2022
Practices Saturday
Jones (ribs) practiced Saturday, Erin Summers of Bally Sports New Orleans reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones left Tuesday's game against the Bulls due to a bruised rib. It seems like he may be able to play Sunday against the Spurs.
Oct 7, 2022
Out Friday
Jones (ribs) will not play in Friday's preseason matchup with the Pistons, Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans are likely exercising caution with Jones here. In his absence, Trey Murphey will start at small forward.
Oct 6, 2022
Questionable Friday
Jones (ribs) returned to practice Thursday but is still questionable for Friday's preseason game against the Pistons, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones exited Tuesday's preseason game with a rib contusion but returned to practice Thursday. While it is unclear if he will play Friday, this is certainly a good sign that he will not be missing any regular season action.
Oct 4, 2022
Exits game with injury
The Pelicans announced that Jones (rib contusion) left Tuesday's preseason game versus the Bulls and will not return.
ANALYSIS
Jones is in line for a starting job at small forward this season. He played 12 minutes before leaving the game, but it is unlikely that this injury will keep him out for long. However, the Pelicans may decide to be cautious for the preseason.
Apr 29, 2022
Strong defensive effort Thursday
Jones amassed 16 points (5-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four rebounds, four assists and four steals in 40 minutes during Thursday's 115-109 loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
The points, assists and steals were all new playoff highs for the rookie, but Jones' performance wasn't enough to force a Game 7. He averaged 10.7 points, 3.3 boards, 1.8 assists and 1.8 steals over six games against Phoenix, and while he should remain in a complementary role behind CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram next season, the Pelicans will be looking for Jones to take a step forward.
Apr 27, 2022
Impactful in loss
Jones finished with four points (1-5 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 112-97 loss to Phoenix on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Jones was everywhere on the court in Game 5. The rookie used his defensive prowess to force Phoenix into turnovers and help New Orleans capitalize on the offensive end. Look for more of the same in Game 6 from one of the league's best young defenders.
Apr 25, 2022
Provides two steals, three blocks
Jones finished Sunday's 118-103 win over the Suns with 13 points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 7-8 FT), two rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals across 35 minutes.
ANALYSIS
The rookie continues to make a name for himself as one of the best and most versatile on-ball defenders in the entire league. Jones has at least one steal in all four games of the series, but his shot-blocking is what was most impressive Sunday night. Two of Jones' three blocks came on jumpshot attempts in which he skied to get a piece of shots that initially appeared to be clean looks. The Alabama product has played 41, 40 and 35 minutes over the last three games, respectively.
Apr 20, 2022
Logs 41 minutes in victory
Jones finished Tuesday's 125-114 victory over the Suns with 14 points (5-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-4 FT), one rebound, three assists and one steal across 41 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones' 41 minutes on the court was a season-high, and while his lock-down defensive skills don't show up on paper, he was a critical piece in Game 2. He paired his defensive prowess with efficient shooting in the win, and he logged more minutes than anyone else on the team. Based on usage alone, Jones warrants consideration as a value-upside DFS candidate down the stretch.
Apr 14, 2022
Renders lock-down defense vs. Spurs
Jones produced 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-4 3Pt), five rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals across 37 minutes during Wednesday's 113-103 win over San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Jones was largely responsible for covering Dejounte Murray in the play-in contest, and he held the star guard to a 5-for-19 shooting line and a modest 16 points. Jones recorded a pair of blocks and steals and added a 5-for-7 shooting line along with 12 points on offense. The rookie could be a difference-maker in Friday's play-in contest against the Clippers as he's likely to be tasked with the tough defensive assignment of containing Paul George.
Apr 12, 2022
Available Wednesday
Jones (lower leg) is not listed on the injury report ahead of Wednesday's play-in game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Jones was sidelined for the regular-season finale with a leg injury, but the absence was considered merely precautionary so it's not surprising to see him available for the win-or-go-home matchup. The rookie made 78 appearances during the regular season and averaged 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 29.9 minutes per game.
Apr 10, 2022
Ruled out Sunday
Jones (lower leg) will not play Sunday against Golden State.
ANALYSIS
The Pels will give the rookie the night off as they head into what's ultimately a meaningless game. Expect Jones, who's been one of the NBA's best steals producers this season, to be back in the lineup for Wednesday's play-in game against San Antonio.
Mar 28, 2022
Six steals in Sunday's win
Jones chipped in 16 points (6-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists and six steals in 38 minutes during Sunday's 116-108 win over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie wing tormented the Lakers on the defensive end as he set a new career single-game high in steals, while also scoring in double digits for the seventh time in the last 11 games. Jones is averaging 11.2 points, 3.2 boards, 2.5 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.2 threes over that stretch as he tries to help the Pelicans hang onto a spot in the play-in tournament.
Mar 21, 2022
Tossed in second half
Jones was ejected from Monday's game against Charlotte after being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was tossed after an inadvertent elbow struck Miles Bridges in the third quarter. He finishes the contest with five points (1-5 FG, 1-2 3PT, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 19 minutes. Trey Murphy and Naji Marshall should expect to see more minutes down the stretch as a result.
Mar 16, 2022
Leads team with 22 points
Jones recorded 22 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 5-5 FT), five rebounds and three steals over 32 minutes during Tuesday's 131-115 loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Jones was effective in absorbing most of Brandon Ingram's (hamstring) missing output. Jones was filling in for CJ McCollum, but upon his return, Jones supplanted Naji Marshall at the wing and drew the start. Despite the blowout result, Jones appeared to be a much better fit for the Pelicans' scheme. Jones is more of a pure scorer than Marshall, who is a better defensive tool.
Mar 9, 2022
Drops 15 points Wednesday
Jones added 15 points (6-10 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three assists and two rebounds during Wednesday's 108-102 loss to the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Jones scored in double figures for a second straight matchup, and his 15 points were the most he has recorded since dropping a career-high 26 versus the Cavaliers on Dec. 28. The rookie is averaging 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in the month of March so far.
Feb 28, 2022
Improved play in lopsided win
Jones closed Sunday's 123-95 win over the Lakers with 11 points (4-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, three assists and three steals across 31 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Jones got back to what he does best Sunday, taking advantage of a highly disappointing Lakers outfit. After a stretch of sub-par performances, fantasy managers will be breathing a sigh of relief after Jones was able to deliver on the defensive end of the floor, adding a handful of points in the process. The rookie has surpassed all expectations thus far this year and so while there are going to be some additional bumps in the road, he should remain a must-roster player the rest of the way.
Feb 13, 2022
Hits two threes in loss
Jones had 13 points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals across 39 minutes during Saturday's 124-114 loss to San Antonio.
ANALYSIS
Jones' stat lines rarely jump off the page, but he's been a top-five fantasy rookie for much of the season thanks to his defensive contributions paired with a consistently heavy workload. The Alabama product is locked into a starting spot on the wing, and the departure of Josh Hart at the trade deadline should only solidify Jones' role.
Feb 8, 2022
Records first double-double
Jones registered 10 points (5-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt), 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals over 31 minutes during Tuesday's 110-97 victory over the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Jones took advantage of the lowly Rockets to post his first career double-double, which helped make up for his subpar efficiency. He also posted three assists for a second straight game and got three steals for the 11th time. The Pelicans trading for CJ McCollum could slightly cut into Jones' usage, but the rookie is primarily a defensive asset.
Feb 5, 2022
Offensive explosion Friday
Jones registered 25 points (8-10 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 6-6 FT), two rebounds and two steals over 34 minutes during Friday's 113-105 victory over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Jones, better known for his incredible defensive abilities, turned things up a notch, going for 25 points in Friday's victory. He fell one short of his career-high, set back on December 28. It's been a meteoric rise for the rookie who continues to thrive as a member of the undermanned Pelicans starting five. Obviously, the scoring won't be there every game but his floor is certainly high enough to warrant must-roster status in all fantasy formats.
Jan 29, 2022
All-around performance in loss
Jones contributed 19 points (7-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, three assists and five steals over 37 minutes during Friday's 116-105 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Jones scored in double figures for the ninth time in his last 10 games and is shooting 56.2 percent from the field during that stretch. He also showed why he was voted SEC Defensive Play of the Year during his final season with Alabama by snatching five steals, tying his season high. The rookie is averaging 9.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks in 29.7 minutes per game.
Jan 29, 2022
Herb's heist
Jones produced 19 points (7-13 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, three assists and five steals across 37 minutes during Friday's 116-105 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Jones matched his season-high five steals in what was another overall strong performance for the rookie. Jones is averaging 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals per game across 13 January contests. He is also logging a robust 33.7 minutes each night over that span.
Jan 21, 2022
Another quality performance
Jones finished with 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt), four rebounds, four assists and three steals in 37 minutes during Thursday's 102-91 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
The rookie second-round pick continues to be subtle revelation for the Pelicans. He's a well-rounded contributor, shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three, while looking 1.5 steals per game with high defensive grades. Despite infrequently hitting the 20-point mark, Jones is a high-floor asset who can be rostered in standard leagues.
Jan 13, 2022
Defensive numbers return Thursday
Jones registered 14 points (5-6 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists and three steals in 32 minutes during Thursday's 113-89 win over Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Jones racked up another three steals in the victory, a welcome sight for anyone invested in the young upstart. While the defensive contributions have been relatively constant thus far, it has been his offensive game that has progressed during the month of January. He has now scored in double-digits in eight of his past nine games, simply reinforcing him as a must-roster player in all 12-team leagues.
Jan 6, 2022
Gathers career-best five steals
Jones finished with 13 points (4-8 FG, 5-6 FT), six rebounds, two assists and five steals across 37 minutes during Thursday's 101-96 victory over Golden State.
ANALYSIS
Jones impressed yet again in the victory, continuing on with his unexpected rookie breakout. Obvious his overall fantasy value is heavily reliant on his defensive output, something that was on full display. However, his offensive game is beginning to take shape, to the point where you can almost rely on him for double-digit scoring on most nights. Given the trajectory of the Pelicans, it is reasonably safe to assume he should have a substantial role the rest of the way.
Jan 2, 2022
Excels on defense in loss
Jones posted 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-6 3Pt), six rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks across 35 minutes in Saturday's 136-113 loss to the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Even though Brandon Ingram (Achilles) was out for a second straight game, Jones couldn't replicate the career-high 26-point outburst he delivered in the previous contest, but the rookie delivered a strong all-around fantasy line thanks largely to his defensive production. Over his last 10 games, Jones is averaging 12.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 blocks, 1.0 three-pointers and 0.9 steals in 32.2 minutes while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line. Jones looks like he might be a solid fantasy option in 12-team leagues at least until the Pelicans get Zion Williamson (foot) and some of their other key players back.
Dec 29, 2021
Offensive explosion in loss Tuesday
Jones produced 26 points (10-18 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds, three assists and three blocks across 36 minutes during Tuesday's 108-104 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Jones erupted for a career-high 26 points in the loss, shouldering a lot of the offensive responsibility. With the Pelicans well down on troops, Jones was the unlikely beneficiary. He has been a solid source of defensive production all season long but as long as the current absences stick around, he is probably worth streaming in across most 12-team leagues.
Dec 27, 2021
Fires up 15 points in loss
Jones had 15 points (5-12 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 37 minutes during Sunday's 117-112 loss to Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Jones launched 12 shots in Sunday's loss, garnering a larger offensive role. With Brandon Ingram (Achilles) leaving the game after just nine minutes, Jones was one of the main beneficiaries. There is no word yet on whether Ingram will miss additional time but based on what we know about the Pelicans and their current trajectory, that could very well be the case. Jones still won't have the highest upside but he could absolutely get a bump if that does happen, making him a player to consider in standard leagues.
Dec 19, 2021
Pelicans-76ers postponed
Jones and the Pelicans won't face the 76ers on Sunday after the game was postponed due to depth concerns for Philadelphia, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Philadelphia currently has three players in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocol and another seven players on the injury report, leaving the team with just seven healthy members on the roster. Since the NBA stipulates that teams must have eight players active for the contest, the league was forced to postpone the contest. Jones and the Pelicans will return to action Tuesday against the Trail Blazers.
Dec 18, 2021
Grabs career-best nine boards
Jones totaled 17 points (6-9 FG, 5-8 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal over 33 minutes during Friday's 116-112 overtime win over the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Jones added to his repertoire during Friday's victory, hauling in a career-high nine rebounds, flirting with what would have been the first double-double of his career. Jones has been a steady addition for the Pelicans, especially on the defensive end. While he is not to be considered a must-roster player, Jones can be a 12-team asset, as long as consistent scoring is not high on the agenda.
Dec 9, 2021
Best game of season Wednesday
Jones ended with 19 points (8-11 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal across 39 minutes during Wednesday's 120-114 overtime loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Jones posted a career-high mark in points and ended just one board away from tying his career-best mark in rebounds, so there's no question this game will go down as his best outing of the campaign so far. He's been doing a good job as the team's starting power forward of late and should remain in this role until Zion Williamson (foot) gets closer to a return. For what is worth, he's scored in double digits in three of his last five games and is averaging 8.9 points per game since returning to the starting five in late November.
Nov 27, 2021
Many steals during start
Jones logged eight points (4-9 FG), three steals, two rebounds, two assists and one block across 35 minutes during a 98-97 win against the Jazz.
ANALYSIS
Jones' steal tally is the most impressive concerning his NBA averages so far. When logging at least 25 game minutes, he averaged 2.1 steals across seven matchups. Jones' steal rate is good enough to warrant fantasy consideration wanting low-costing options.
Nov 24, 2021
Joins starting five
Jones is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Wizards, Andrew Lopez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will rejoin the starting lineup for the first time since Nov. 2 as the Pelicans opt to go big against Washington. He's averaging 6.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.9 minutes per game this season.
Nov 22, 2021
Logs 31 minutes in Monday' s loss
Jones totaled six points (3-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt), five rebounds, three assists and one block across 31 minutes during Monday's 110-96 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Jones saw plenty of run during the loss but failed to make the most of his playing opportunity. Injuries have afforded Jones a sizeable role this season, something that was certainly not on the cards on opening night. Outside of some defensive production, there is very little to get us excited when it comes to potential fantasy value. He can be left on waivers in all competitive formats.
Nov 11, 2021
Plays 32 minutes in return
Jones amassed just four points (1-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, four assists and two steals in 32 minutes during Wednesday's 108-100 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones returned after missing the previous three games due to ankle soreness, immediately slotting back into a sizeable role. He had been starting prior to the injury and while he came off the bench Wednesday, he could very well be back starting against the Nets on Friday. His role has been surprising but don't let that fool you. At this point, he really just has value as a defensive streamer.
Nov 10, 2021
Available Wednesday
Jones (ankle) is available for Wednesday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
After missing the last three games due to a concussion, Jones came into Wednesday also dealing with ankle soreness but it appears he is set to return against the Thunder. It's unclear at this time if he will immediately rejoin the starting five, but Jones should be available for his usual workload if the ankle holds up. He's averaging 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.4 minutes per game this season.
Nov 9, 2021
Listed as questionable
Jones (concussion) is questionable for Wednesday's contest against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Jones has missed the last three games due to a concussion, but he could possibly return Wednesday. Brandon Ingram (hip) has also been sidelined, so over the past three contests Josh Hart and Garrett Temple have entered the starting lineup. However, if both Ingram and Jones are available Wednesday, they will likely reclaim their starting spots.
Nov 8, 2021
Unavailable Monday
Jones (concussion) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Mavericks, Christian Clark of NOLA.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was considered questionable for Monday's contest due to the concussion, and he'll be sidelined for the third consecutive game. Garrett Temple and Josh Hart could continue to start for the Pelicans since Brandon Ingram (hip) is also sidelined.
Nov 7, 2021
Questionable against Mavericks
Jones is questionable Monday at Dallas, according to Jim Eichenhofer of the Pelicans' official site.
ANALYSIS
Jones could sit out a third consecutive Pelicans matchup due to his previous concussion. They have utilized Josh Hart in place of him, and the former averaged 31 game minutes during Jones' absence.
Nov 5, 2021
Ruled out
Jones (concussion) will not play in Friday's tilt against the Warriors, Pelicans' broadcaster Erin Summers reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was unable to clear concussion protocol, so he will be forced to watch the contest from the sidelines. He sustained the injury in Tuesday's game against the Suns. He will now set his sights on a potential return Monday versus the Mavericks.
Nov 4, 2021
Questionable Friday
Jones is questionable Friday against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Concussion symptoms forced Jones to sit out at Sacramento on Wednesday. However, he seemingly improved health-wise and could recover within a day before the Pelicans' game Friday.
Nov 3, 2021
Placed in concussion protocol
Jones sustained a concussion Tuesday against the Suns and has entered the league's concussion protocols.
ANALYSIS
Jones will be out Wednesday against the Kings, and there's certainly a chance that he's out again Friday against the Warriors. In his absence, Tomas Satoransky, Trey Murphy and Garrett Temple could see more minutes.
Nov 3, 2021
Sustains head injury in loss
Head coach Willie Green said Tuesday after the Pelicans' 112-100 loss to the Suns that Jones exited the contest after experiencing concussion-like symptoms, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Green added that Jones will be re-evaluated over the next 24 hours before the Pelicans confirm the diagnosis of a concussion, but at this stage, the rookie looks unlikely to be available for the second half of New Orleans' back-to-back set Wednesday in Sacramento. He played 19 minutes in the loss to Phoenix, finishing with eight points (4-5 FG), two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Oct 31, 2021
Plays 36 minutes in loss
Jones finished Saturday's loss to the Knicks with 12 points (6-13 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 0-1 FT), five assists, three rebounds and three steals.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-round pick continues to be a favorite of new head coach Willie Green, and he's now started six straight games after coming off the bench and seeing just three minutes on Opening Night. Prior to Saturday, Jones hadn't provided much fantasy value, but if he can continue to add defensive production, in particular, he may be worth monitoring in deeper leagues. The Pelicans were without Brandon Ingram (hip), so that helped Jones' case, but he's clearly earned the trust of the Pelicans' coaching staff.
Oct 22, 2021
Starting Friday
Jones will draw the start at small forward in Friday's tilt against the Bulls, Scott Kushner of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will replace Josh Hart (quadriceps) in the starting lineup. The 2021 second-round pick impressed during training camp and will now get a chance to see some run after logging just three minutes off the bench in the team's season opener.
Oct 4, 2021
Plays 19 minutes off bench
Jones finished Monday's preseason game against the Timberwolves with seven points (3-7 FG, 1-1 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-round pick has turned some heads with his play thus far in camp, and he looked good in his first taste of preseason action. The Pelicans don't have a ton of reliable depth on the wing, so it's possible Jones could work his way into coach Willie Green's regular-season rotation.
Aug 16, 2021
Inks deal with New Orleans
Jones signed a contract with the Pelicans on Monday, Paul Garcia of ProjectSpurs.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones saw extended playing time and put up exceptional numbers off the bench for the Pelican's Summer League team that finished 4-0. The 22-year-old forward will likely fill a depth role for the Pelicans this upcoming season and he could potentially spend time playing for the Erie BayHawks, the Pelican's G League team.
