So long as at least Rubio is healthy, McLaughlin won't be worth a pickup outside of the deepest of league, but he could have some short-term appeal as a DFS punt play so long as Russell is out.

With career averages of 7.3 points, 4.2 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 19.2 minutes, McLaughlin has shown the ability to produce effectively when given playing time, but the opportunity likely won't be there for him when Russell is back in action.

He has been a fringe top1-00 player over the past two weeks in only 22 minutes a night. It is hard to predict exactly what may lie ahead for McLaughlin but given the current production, he certainly warrants a roster spot in deeper formats.

He should head back to the bench once D'Angelo Russell is ready to make his debut with the franchise, but McLaughlin could have earned himself a bigger role in the rotation given his last few performances.

Adding in the fact that McLaughlin didn't turn the ball over once in this one, he had a very solid showing. He could potentially have a decent opportunity moving forward, barring another backcourt shakeup in Minnesota before the trade deadline. After dealing away both Jeff Teague and Shabazz Napier, McLaughlin could suddenly find himself with a serviceable workload down the stretch. It's difficult to envision him becoming relevant in standard leagues, but he's at least worth monitoring moving forward.

McLaughlin hauled in a career high in rebounding while matching his career high in made threes. He has handed out at least three assists in four straight appearances, and after dealing Jeff Teague the Timberwolves may rely on McLaughlin more consistently going forward. With that being said, it's also possible that rookie Jarrett Culver will end up earning a decent share of minutes at point guard behind Shabazz Napier, plus there's a chance Minnesota isn't finished making moves in the lead-up to the trade deadline.

McLaughlin will be available for Friday's game against Indiana after being recalled from the G League, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.

McLaughlin will serve as the team's backup point guard Friday night behind Shabazz Napier. He's appeared in six NBA games this season, averaging five points and 2.7 assists over that stretch.
