Monk closed last season with averages of 11.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 made threes (40.1% 3Pt) across 42 appearances.

The details haven't been released, but it's likely a one-year deal at close to the minimum for Monk, who comes over after four years in Charlotte. The Hornets announced Sunday that Monk won't be tendered a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Meanwhile, Charlotte will tender a qualifying offer to Devonte' Graham, and that move coupled with the team's selection of another shooting guard James Bouknight with the No. 11 overall pick in the Thursday's draft makes the decision to move on from Monk relatively unsurprising. After he was also a No. 11 overall selection in 2017, Monk failed to live up to the expectations that come with being a lottery pick. Over 233 regular-season appearances for Charlotte in his four years in the NBA, Monk averaged 9.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 17.8 minutes per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from three-point range. He'll look to find work as a reserve guard for another team as he heads to free agency.

After seeing his playing drop since the All-Star break, Monk could be about to land himself a sizeable role moving forward. LaMelo Ball (wrist) could miss the remainder of the season and if Monday's minutes' allocation is anything to go by, Monk's could move back into the standard league conversation. His value is typically reliant on his scoring and so he is not going to be for everyone. That said, points are generally a tricky category to bolster, making him a potential streaming option for just about any team.

He has scored 15-plus points in seven of his last eight games and is averaging 19.6 points per game while shooting 49.6 percent from the field in that span.

Monk missed all seven of his three-point attempts Sunday, but he made up for the misses by coming through when it mattered most, converting a three-point play with 1.4 seconds on the clock to guide Charlotte to a one-point win. The clutch shot and free throw put Monk over the 20-point mark for the fourth straight game, and he is averaging 23.8 points on 51.5 percent shooting over that stretch. He contributes little in the way of assists or defensive stats, but Monk deserves a look in fantasy leagues as an emerging source of points and triples.

Monk has been scoring at a torrid rate of late, totaling 20 or more points in three straight contests. Over that stretch, he has shot 53.1 percent from the field and drained an average of 4.7 three-pointers per game. Monk doesn't contribute much in the way of peripheral stats, but he can get hot for stretches and help fantasy managers looking for scoring and treys. However, he has hit only 40 percent of his field-goal attempts over his career, so his affinity for the deep shot is something to be wary of.

Monk was one of three Charlotte players that reached the 20-point mark, but he surprisingly led the team offensively despite coming off the bench. Monk clearly has the talent to light up the scoreboard on any given night and is undoubtedly going through a productive stretch, as he has reached the 20-point plateau in three of his last four appearances off the bench despite not playing more than 31 minutes in any of those contests.

Monk had 20 points (7-12 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-4 FT) and six rebounds across 24 minutes off the bench in Monday's loss against the Jazz.

Monk enjoyed an excellent performance -- he played the third-fewest minutes but still managed to reach the 20-point mark for the second time in his last three contests. Monk is certainly capable of putting up huge scoring numbers, but he's been very consistent on a game-to-game basis and needs to improve in that department to experience an uptick in his upside -- although the fact that he is coming off the bench regularly also puts a hard cap on his upside.

Devonte' Graham exited Sunday's game with a knee injury, which allowed Monk over 30 minutes of playing time for only the third time this season. Monk stepped up with 23 points, an 18-point improvement from a previous injury return Graham made Friday. Monk may see more of this elevated playing time if Graham's injury requires him to sit out.

Monk has now attempted double-digit shot attempts in five of his last six games and has shot 40 percent or better in four of those six games. In that six-game span, Monk is averaging 16.3 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the floor.

With Terry Rozier (ankle) sidelined, Monk saw a significantly increased role and absolutely erupted. Not only did he establish a new personal best in scoring, the fourth-year guard also set a Hornets franchise record for points by a bench player. Rozier's injury isn't considered serious, but if he isn't able to return for Wednesday's tilt against the 76ers, Monk could see big minutes and elevated usage once again.

Monk had 18 points (7-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), two rebounds and two assists during Saturday's 126-114 win over the Bucks.

It's only the second time this season the 22-year-old played more than 14 minutes, and he saw the bump in playing time Saturday since Terry Rozier exited at halftime with an ankle sprain. Monk could see increased run off the bench should Rozier be forced to miss additional time.

The biggest news here is that Monk made his preseason debut after returning from a positive COVID-19 test. The guard is coming off a season posting career highs in points, but his value takes a hit between ramp up time after his late start to preseason and the fact that playing time may be scarce after the Hornets selected LaMelo Ball in the 2020 draft.

Monk (illness) is expected to begin working out with the team either Thursday or Friday, Jack Duffy of Sports Illustrated reports.

Monk is recovering from COVID-19, so he's working through protocols before joining his teammates. He may be limited in the preseason, but he should be good to go for the regular season.

Coach James Borrego said on Friday that Monk tested positive for COVID-19, Rod Boone of The Athletic reports.

Coach Borrego said during a media briefing Friday that Monk is asymptomatic and has not practiced the last few days after testing positive. The fourth-year shooting guard will presumably miss most of the preseason for Charlotte, but may be ready for the start of the regular season depending on his recovery.

Hornets coach James Borrego told the Charlotte Observer that Monk is "more emotionally and mentally engaged" than ever before.

The Hornets have been out of the spotlight for so long that it's easy to forget Monk was slapped with a suspension back in February for a violation of the league's drug policy. The details have remained mostly under wraps, but Monk has since taken responsibility for the suspension and vowed to use it as a lesson in maturity. "I did it. I took my consequences for it," Monk said of the suspension. "I think I'm making up for it right now. I'm in a great place with my mind and my body. The responsibility now is even bigger for me to stay like this, instead of swerving off a little bit." The former Kentucky standout has had an up-and-down start to his NBA career. After struggling through most of his first two years in the league, Monk was beginning to show flashes of the athleticism and microwave scoring ability that endeared him to fans and talent evaluators alike at the college level. From Jan. 20 through Feb. 22, Monk averaged 17.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists over a 12-game sample, hitting 46.5 percent

Monk has been reinstated by the NBA following a drug-related suspension in February, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.

Monk was suspended indefinitely on Feb. 26 -- roughly two weeks before the league suspended the regular season. Few details regarding the nature of Monk's violation have emerged, but the Hornets announced Monday that the former Kentucky standout has officially been reinstated. The Hornets will not be among the 22 teams heading to Orlando next month, however, so Monk will have to wait until the start of the 2020-21 season to return to action.

Monk has been suspended indefinitely for violating the league's anti-drug program, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Monk will remain suspended until he's determined to be in compliance with the program. In his absence, Cody Martin is a candidate to see increased run. The suspension comes at an unfortunate time for Monk, who was enjoying one of his best stretches of the season, averaging 17.0 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists over his past 13 games (28.0 minutes per tilt).

Monk scored eight points (4-13 FG, 0-4 3Pt), while tacking on three assists, a rebound and a steal in 27 minutes during Tuesday's 119-80 loss to the Pacers.

The combination of Devonte' Graham resting and Monk having scored at least 15 points in his prior six contests made Tuesday's bust especially disappointing for Monk shareholders. A volatile in and of himself, Monk is sometimes also at the mercy of one of the league's worst offenses in Charlotte. He will have a chance to bounce back in a fantasy-friendly match when the Knicks come to town on Wednesday.

Monk will start Tuesday's game against the Pacers.

With the Hornets resting Devonte' Graham, Monk will get the nod in the backcourt alongside Terry Rozier. After struggling through much of last season and the beginning of this season, Monk has had a resurgence of late, averaging 17.8 points on 46.9 percent shooting over his last 12 contests. He's been even better over his last six games, posting 20.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 29.5 minutes, with a 51/44/83 shooting line.

Monk produced 25 points (7-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 9-9 FT), six rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes during Thursday's 103-93 win over the Bulls.

Monk has scored exactly 25 in consecutive contests. Moreover, he has made 38-of-69 shots from the field while averaging just over 20 points per game across the last five tilts. Monk has also reached double figures in scoring in 10 of the last 11 games, and the 22-year-old guard is certainly worth adding in most formats in case he continues to regularly provide impressive scoring performances.

Monk posted 25 points (10-20 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in 32 minutes during Wednesday's 115-108 victory over the Timberwolves.

Monk has carved out a sixth-man role in the Hornets' rotation lately, seeing 28.0 minutes per game across the past 10, averaging 17.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Considering the Hornets are well out of playoff contention and have been moving away from playing veterans, Monk should continue to occupy this role for the remainder of the season as long as he remains passably efficient.

Monk scored 17 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT) while adding three rebounds, three steals and an assist in 29 minutes off the bench during Monday's 87-76 win over the Pistons.

The third-year guard has found a consistent role in recent weeks as the Hornets' top weapon off the bench. Over the last nine games, Monk is averaging 16.4 points, 3.6 boards, 2.3 assists and 1.4 threes while seeing 27.6 minutes a night, and Monday's steals were a new career high. If he can add some defensive value to his emerging offense, Monk will be firmly on the fantasy radar even in shallower formats.

Monk generated 19 points (8-13 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) to go with six rebounds and a blocked shot over 31 minutes Tuesday in the Hornets' 125-110 loss to the Rockets.

The 2017 first-round pick has turned in the best run of his career over the past seven games, averaging 16.0 points (on 45.1 percent shooting from the field), 3.9 boards, 2.6 assists and 1.1 three-pointers in 27.3 minutes. Monk looks like the Hornets' top guard off the bench at the moment, though Charlotte is believed to be listening to offers on the 22-year-old as Thursday's trade deadline nears. In the event he remains in Charlotte once the deadline passes, Monk should continue to see a steady amount of playing time on the second unit.

Monk racked up 31 points (10-17 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 8-9 FT), five rebounds, five assists, a steal and a block across 32 minutes during the Hornets' 116-103 loss to the Bucks on Friday.

Monk scored 20 points (8-13 FG) on Monday, and again found his stroke on Friday. Monk also had a great block on Ersan Ilyasova shortly before halftime. As good as he looked, the story remains the same for Monk, as he will have to maintain production to warrant fantasy attention.

Monk had 20 points (8-13 FG, 0-3 3PT, 4-6 FT), two assists, one rebound and one block in 22 minutes off the bench during Monday's 106-86 loss against the Magic.

Monk had one of his best scoring perfomances of the season since he reached the 20-point mark for just the third time in the current campaign, but he hadn't scored in double digits since Dec. 29 and even counting this performance, he is still shooting just 40.0 percent from the field and 21.1 percent from deep during the current month. The third-year shooting guard has struggled badly this season and at this point, Monk needs to improve both his consistency and efficiency to have any sort of fantasy value moving forward.

Monk (hip) is not on the injury report ahead of Saturday's game against the Jazz, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Monk bruised his left hip during Wednesday's game, but it's nothing that will keep him out Friday. This month, he's averaging 8.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 17.8 minutes.

Monk was held out of the second half of Friday's preseason game against Philadelphia due to a toe injury, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Monk has been dealing with a sore right toe throughout camp, and it popped back up during Friday's matchup. He'll be considered day-to-day until further notice.
