Keep up with the latest injuries from the Jazz vs Grizzlies game on Friday with our National Basketball Association injury report.Nov 5, 2025
To miss rest of season
Kessler will undergo left shoulder surgery to address a torn labrum and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a devastating blow for the Jazz and for Kessler's fantasy managers given his high price in drafts. Kessler made just five appearances before his season was abruptly ended, finishing with averages of 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.4 steals. With Kessler sidelined the remainder of the campaign, Jusuf Nurkic is likely to step into a full-time starting role. However, the Jazz could also utilize smaller lineups, and guys like Kyle Filipowski and Taylor Hendricks could see increased run.
Nov 2, 2025
Undergoing further testing
Kessler (shoulder) did not travel with the team to Charlotte and is undergoing further testing.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was already set to miss his first game of the season Sunday and now appears at risk of missing the remainder of Utah's four-game road trip after staying behind to treat a left shoulder injury. Jusuf Nurkic is expected to start in his place Sunday and should handle the bulk of the center minutes for as long as the Auburn product is sidelined.
Nov 1, 2025
Won't play Sunday
Kessler has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Hornets due to shoulder bursitis, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss the front end of Utah's back-to-back set due to the shoulder issue, and his next chance to suit up will come Monday against the Celtics. With the big man sidelined, Kyle Filipowski, Jusuf Nurkic and Taylor Hendricks are candidates for increased minutes.
Oct 30, 2025
Second straight double-double
Kessler supplied 18 points (7-12 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-3 FT), 12 rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 32 minutes during Wednesday's 136-134 loss to the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
After getting stuck at exactly nine rebounds in each of the first two games of the season, Kessler has two straight double-doubles while also doing his usual job of protecting the rim. The fourth-year center is averaging 17.0 points, 10.3 boards, 3.5 assists, 2.3 blocks, 1.5 steals and a surprising 1.5 threes on 75.0 percent shooting (6-for-8) from beyond the arc.
Oct 28, 2025
Back on track in win
Kessler closed Monday's 138-134 overtime victory over the Suns with 25 points (9-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-7 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and four blocks in 35 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler bounced back after a subpar showing during Friday's loss to the Kings, recording his first double-double of the season. He also blocked four shots for the second time this season, and is now averaging 16.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.7 steals, 2.7 blocks and 1.0 three-pointers per game through three games.
Oct 23, 2025
Does it all in blowout win
Kessler supplied 22 points (7-7 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 6-8 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals across 29 minutes during Wednesday's 129-108 victory over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Shooting 100% from the field, Kessler looked the part of an elite big man in the Jazz opener. 22 points led all scorers on the night, along with a strong defensive showing. Kessler's growth as a shooter was on display by draining both three point tries - he made only six total last season. The third-year center finished a rebound shy of a double-double, but saw only three quarters of action with the game in hand entering the fourth.
Oct 22, 2025
Stuffs stat sheet in opener
Kessler generated 22 points (7-7 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 6-8 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and four blocks during Wednesday's 129-108 win over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler logged just seven field goal attempts in the win, yet he wound up leading Utah in points after knocking down all seven looks. The 24-year-old center shot just 17.6 percent from three-point range last season, but he knocked down both of his looks from distance Wednesday. Kessler made multiple threes just once in 58 regular-season contests in 2024-25. Beyond his excellent shooting performance, Kessler fell one rebound shy of a double-double, and he doled out four assists -- something he had done merely eight times last season.
Oct 17, 2025
Flirts with triple-double
Kessler finished with 14 points (6-9 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks across 26 minutes during Thursday's 132-129 preseason win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler turned in a strong effort on the offensive end, reaching double figures with ease while grabbing half of his rebounds on the offensive glass. He was nearly as productive defensively, swatting away a team-high two blocks and accounting for two of nine Utah steals. Kessler's solid performance across the board was a reassuring sight for the Jazz after Kessler sat out of the last two exhibitions due to a shoulder injury.
Oct 16, 2025
Cleared to return to action
Kessler (shoulder) is available for Thursday's preseason finale against the Trail Blazers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Thursday will be Kessler's preseason debut, a welcome sign after he missed each of Utah's first three exhibition tilts with a shoulder injury. The 2022 first-rounder could see a significant amount of playing time Thursday in what the Jazz could treat as a dress rehearsal for Opening Night.
Oct 13, 2025
Won't play Monday
Kessler (shoulder) has been ruled out for Monday's preseason game against the Mavericks, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has yet to suit up during the preseason, and his final chance to do so will come Thursday in Portland. The big man was a full participant during Sunday's practice, so despite being sidelined again, Kessler should be ready for Opening Night.
Oct 12, 2025
Returns to practice
Kessler (shoulder) was a full participant at Sunday's practice, according to KSL Sports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has yet to play in the preseason due to left shoulder soreness, but it sounds like he could make his debut in Monday's exhibition against the Mavericks. Kessler's name has been in the rumor mill with the big man unlikely to come to an agreement on a contract extension with the Jazz, setting him up for restricted free agency next offseason.
Oct 9, 2025
Will not play vs. San Antonio
Kessler (shoulder) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Spurs, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss a second straight preseason game due to shoulder soreness. Jusuf Nurkic will likely help fill the void in the frontcourt. The next opportunity for Kessler to make his preseason debut will be Monday against the Mavericks.
Oct 7, 2025
Out for preseason opener
Kessler (shoulder) is out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Rockets, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is dealing with left shoulder bursitis, which will cause him to miss Utah's preseason opener. His next chance to play comes Friday in San Antonio. Jusuf Nurkic will be a candidate to fill in at center Wednesday, while the Jazz could also opt to take an extended look at two-way player Oscar Tshiebwe.
Oct 6, 2025
Not active in Monday's scrimmage
Kessler (shoulder) didn't participate in Monday's scrimmage, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is dealing with left shoulder soreness and also missed Saturday's practice. The 24-year-old big man's status will be worth monitoring ahead of Wednesday's preseason opener against the Rockets. He's coming off a career-best campaign in 2024-25, during which he averaged 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks across 30.0 minutes per game in 58 regular-season outings.
Oct 5, 2025
Dealing with shoulder soreness
Kessler missed Saturday's practice due to left shoulder soreness, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler missed the last five games of the 2024-25 campaign due to a concussion, and he now finds himself dealing with a shoulder issue ahead of the preseason. Kessler and the Jazz have been unable to agree on an extension, which seemed to be a sore spot for Kessler during the team's media day. The disconnect could be due to cap management reasons, leaving an extension until next summer, but that remains to be seen. As it sits, Kessler is uncertain to play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Rockets.
Apr 12, 2025
Not playing Sunday
Kessler (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Kessler entered concussion protocols April 3, and it will end him sidelining him for the Jazz's final five games of the regular season. Oscar Tshiebwe and Kyle Filipowski will serve as Utah's primary big men for Sunday's regular-season finale in Walker's absence. The third-year big man out of Auburn put up solid numbers for the Jazz this season, but injuries and reconditioning caused him to miss 17 of the Pelcians' 33 games since Jan. 1. With Utah failing to qualify for the postseason, Kessler will finish the 2024-25 regular season averaging 11.1 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.4 blocks in 30.0 minutes per game across 58 outings.
Apr 10, 2025
Won't play vs. OKC
Kessler (concussion) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is still dealing with a concussion, which will keep him sidelined for the fourth straight game Friday. It remains uncertain whether he'll return to the floor for the regular-season finale against the Timberwolves on Sunday. In the meantime, the Jazz will likely turn to Kyle Filipowski, who is coming off arguably the best game of his career, finishing with 30 points, 18 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and three steals in a win over the Trail Blazers.
Apr 8, 2025
Won't play Wednesday
Kessler (nose/concussion) is out for Wednesday's game against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
A nasal fracture and concussion will keep Kessler from playing Wednesday. With two games left on the 2024-25 calendar for the rebuilding Jazz, it wouldn't be shocking if Kessler has made his final appearance this season. Kyle Filipowski has averaged 13.8 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks in 28.7 minutes over his last nine outings as starter, and he should continue to fill in for Kessler at center against Portland.
Apr 5, 2025
Another absence coming
Kessler (nose/concussion) is out for Sunday's game versus the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his second straight contest Sunday due to a nasal fracture and being in concussion protocol. Kessler's next chance to suit up is Wednesday's matchup with Portland.
Apr 3, 2025
Won't play against Indiana
Kessler is out for Friday's game versus the Pacers due to a nasal fracture and concussion protocol.
ANALYSIS
Kessler logged 28 minutes in his return to action Wednesday but will sit out Friday's contest due to being in concussion protocol and a nasal fracture. KJ Martin and Kyle Filipowski will likely receive increased playing time in his absence. Kessler's next chance to suit up is Sunday's matchup with Atlanta.
Apr 3, 2025
Double-double in Wednesday's return
Kessler amassed 11 points (5-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-5 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals over 28 minutes during Wednesday's 143-105 loss to the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the last two games for conditioning reasons, Kessler looked very fit as he recorded his 28th double-double of the season. The Jazz are after draft lottery odds and not wins, so Kessler is likely to continue getting rested over the final weeks of the regular season, but he's remained productive when in the lineup. Over 16 appearances since the All-Star break, the 23-year-old center is averaging 10.3 points, 13.2 boards, 2.3 blocks and 2.0 assists while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor.
Apr 2, 2025
Good to go Wednesday
Kessler (conditioning) will be available for Wednesday's game against Houston.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will be welcomed back to the frontcourt after a two-game absence. The Jazz have been extremely cautious with their key role players, so more maintenance days could be in Kessler's future.
Apr 1, 2025
Iffy against Houston
Kessler (conditioning) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Rockets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is in danger of missing his third straight contest Wednesday as he works his way back into game shape. If Kessler is forced to sit out yet again, Kyle Filipowski will likely draw another start.
Mar 30, 2025
Remaining out for Monday
Kessler has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Hornets due to return to competition reconditioning.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his second consecutive contest while the club works him back to playing form after missing Friday's loss to Denver due to an illness. The big man's next chance to play will come Wednesday against the Rockets. Kyle Filipowski and Oscar Tshiebwe will likely continue to receive an uptick in playing time due to Kessler being sidelined.
Mar 28, 2025
Out with illness
Kessler is out for Friday's game against the Nuggets due to an illness, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The star big man will have a few days to recover, as his next chance to play comes Monday against the Nuggets. In Kessler's absence Friday, either Johnny Juzang or Brice Sensabaugh should enter the starting lineup.
Mar 28, 2025
Questionable Friday
Kessler (illness) is questionable for Friday's game against Denver, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is in jeopardy of missing Friday's contest after appearing in each of the club's last seven outings. Moreover, Larsen added that the big man appeared to be under the weather in the locker room following Thursday's loss to Houston. If Kessler is sidelined against the Nuggets, Kyle Filipowski and Oscar Tshiebwe could see a bump in minutes.
Mar 28, 2025
Muted performance in loss
Kessler supplied two points (1-3 FG), nine rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal across 26 minutes during Thursday's 121-110 loss to Houston.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been held to single-digit points in his last six appearances. Although he's been ice cold offensively with a 34.7 percent mark from the field in that span, his rebounding (9.8 boards) and shot-blocking (2.0 blocks) have continued to be positives.
Mar 24, 2025
Strong in paint in defeat
Kessler supplied seven points (3-12 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 0-4 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and three blocks over 31 minutes during Sunday's 120-91 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler put together a strong outing in the paint Sunday, tallying a team-high trio of blocks while hauling in a team-high-tying rebound mark in a balanced performance. Kessler has tallied at least 10 rebounds with three or more blocks on 19 occasions this season, doing so in two of his last four outings.
Mar 22, 2025
Grabs 11 rebounds in loss
Kessler ended with eight points (4-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 11 rebounds, six assists and one block across 29 minutes during Friday's 121-99 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Kessler lost the battle under the basket against Kristaps Porzingis, but he did manage to record one more rebound over his opponent. The Auburn product has posted some explosive totals during his third season with Utah, and he's recorded 26 double-doubles over 54 games. It's a vast improvement over a disappointing sophomore season where he failed to meet expectations His health has been a concern, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Kessler's minutes decrease as the Jazz run out the clock on a lost season.
Mar 19, 2025
Available against Washington
Kessler (rest) will play Wednesday against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was originally ruled out for Wednesday, but the Jazz have upgraded his status to available -- Lauri Makkanen's (personal) absence may have factored into the decision. In his most recent outing against the Bulls, Kessler had seven points (3-11 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, three blocks and one assist over 31 minutes.
Mar 18, 2025
Won't play against Washington
Kessler is out for Wednesday's game versus the Wizards due to rest purposes, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will sit out Wednesday's contest despite not suffering any injuries. In his absence, Kyle Filipowski and Micah Potter will likely receive increased playing time. Kessler's next chance to suit up is Friday's matchup with Boston.
Mar 18, 2025
Swats three shots in defeat
Kessler recorded seven points (3-11 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, three blocks and one assist over 31 minutes during Monday's 111-97 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Kessler led the club in blocks Monday, marking his 36th outing with multiple swats across 52 regular-season appearances. Additionally, the 23-year-old racked up a game-best 12 rebounds, and he has logged double-digit boards in nine of his last 10 appearances. However, the big man struggled from the field, and over his last two games, he has shot 1-for-11 from beyond the arc. Kessler had attempted only six triples on the season before that two-game span.
Mar 16, 2025
Returns with big double-double
Kessler finished with 15 points (6-15 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and 19 rebounds across 31 minutes during Sunday's 128-102 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
After curiously being unused in Friday's game against Toronto, Kessler made an immediate impact on the glass in his return Sunday while posting his 27th double-double of the season. The 2022 first-rounder should remain an elite source of swats and boards along with a high field-goal percentage for fantasy managers in category-based settings down the stretch, although it's unknown how much the rebuilding Jazz may opt to limit Kessler in the campaign's final month. Kessler has averaged 12.9 points, 15.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 30.7 minutes while shooting 68.5 percent from the field across his last nine contests.
Mar 16, 2025
Starting Sunday vs. Minnesota
Kessler is in the Jazz's starting five against the Timberwolves on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Despite not being on the injury report, Kessler was a healthy scratch for Friday's loss to the Raptors, but he'll reenter the starting five in place of Kyle Filipowski. Kessler has averaged 12.9 points, 14.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.8 blocks over 32.4 minutes per game since the beginning of February.
Mar 15, 2025
Sits out Friday
Kessler (coach's decision) went unused off the bench in Friday's 126-118 loss to the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Though the Jazz made Kessler active for the contest, the third-year center unexpectedly ceded his spot on the top unit to Kyle Filipowski after starting in each of his first 50 appearances on the season. Utah ended up choosing to hold Kessler out for the game, and head coach Will Hardy also limited playing time for other key regulars such as Lauri Markkanen (19 minutes) and Collin Sexton (20 minutes). At this point in the season, the 15-52 Jazz have shown no hesitation about putting non-competitive lineups on the floor as they look to improve their odds in the draft lottery, so Kessler could be subject to more absences over the next month even though he's ostensibly healthy.
Mar 14, 2025
Not starting vs. Toronto
Kessler is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz didn't rule Kessler out for this contest, but the fact that he won't be starting suggests he might have some kind of limit in his workload. Kyle Filipowski, who has been one of the best players for Utah in recent weeks, will start at center.
Mar 13, 2025
Swats six shots in loss
Kessler ended Wednesday's 122-115 loss to Memphis with nine points (4-5 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists, six blocks and two steals across 29 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been one of the NBA's premier rim protectors this season, as his 2.5 blocks per contest only rank behind Chet Holmgren's 2.7 and Victor Wembanyama's 3.8. Kessler's 12.5 rebounds per game also ranks fifth in the entire league. The 23-year-old big man continues to display impressive efficiency, as he is shooting 72.5 percent from the field in 2024-25.
Mar 10, 2025
Not listed on injury report
Kessler (rest) isn't listed on Utah's injury report for Monday's game against the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
After resting Sunday, Kessler will return to action for the second half of Utah's back-to-back set. On Friday, the third-year big man posted 18 points, 25 rebounds and eight blocks in 33 minutes during a 118-109 loss in Toronto.
Mar 8, 2025
Ruled out for Sunday
Kessler (rest) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is coming off a historic performance in a loss to the Raptors, finishing with 18 points, 25 rebounds and eight blocks. However, he will be resting Sunday, meaning the Jazz will likely have to pivot to Kyle Filipowski to shoulder the load in the paint.
Mar 7, 2025
Historic performance Friday
Kessler closed Friday's 118-109 loss to the Raptors with 18 points (8-11 FG, 2-7 FT), 25 rebounds and eight blocks over 33 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler became only the sixth player in NBA history to record at least 15 points, 25 rebounds and eight blocks in a single game, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elvin Hayes, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal and Dikembe Mutombo in a prestigious list. That doesn't mean Kessler will have a career like theirs, but his impact whenever he's been healthy and available has been massive for this rebuilding Jazz team. Kessler reached the 18-point mark for the seventh time this season, but the 25 boards and eight blocks were career-high marks for him.
Mar 6, 2025
Set to play against Toronto
Kessler (rest) isn't on the injury report for Friday's game versus the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will return to action Friday after sitting out Utah's previous contest for rest purposes. The 23-year-old center should reclaim his starting spot from Kyle Filipowski. Kessler is averaging 13.5 points, 14.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 2.1 assists in 32.8 minutes across his last 10 outings.
Mar 4, 2025
Won't play against Washington
Kessler (rest) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Wizards, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
After coming one rebound shy of a double-double in Monday's loss to the Pistons, Kessler will not be available for Wednesday's game in Washington. The Jazz will likely turn to Kyle Filipowski to shoulder the load in the frontcourt.
Mar 3, 2025
Available for Monday
Kessler (rest) will be available for Monday's game against Detroit.
ANALYSIS
After resting Sunday against the Pelicans on the front end of a back-to-back set, Kessler is likely to be back in the starting lineup Monday. Kyle Filipowski started at center in Kessler's absence Sunday and played well, while Oscar Tshiebwe double-doubled off the bench in 20 minutes.
Mar 1, 2025
Resting Sunday
Kessler won't play Sunday against the Pelicans due to rest.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz will be either resting or taking care of several regular starters Sunday, and Kessler is one of the players who will sit this upcoming contest. The big man is averaging 12.9 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 blocks per game since the beginning of February.
Mar 1, 2025
Game-winning dunk Friday
Kessler supplied nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 26 minutes during Friday's 117-116 victory over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Kessler wasn't able to record a second-straight double-double Friday, but his final field goal was the go-ahead dunk that ended up being the winning basket for the Jazz. Most of Kessler's fantasy value comes in rebounding and blocks, but the 2022 first-round pick has had solid scoring games despite a low amount of field-goal attempts, as evidenced by his 25-point performance against the Kings on Wednesday when he converted on all 10 of his field-goal attempts. Over his last 10 outings, Kessler has averaged 12.2 points on 71.6 percent shooting, 14.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steals over 33.3 minutes per game.
Feb 27, 2025
Big double-double in loss
Kessler produced 25 points (10-10 FG, 5-7 FT), 14 rebounds, five assists and two steals in 34 minutes during Wednesday's 118-101 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
While he failed to record a block for the first time in nine February appearances, Kessler made up for it with a new season scoring high and his 24th double-double. On the month, the third-year center is averaging 13.3 points, 15.3 boards, 2.3 assists, 2.2 blocks and 0.9 steals while shooting a dazzling 76.5 percent from the floor.
Feb 26, 2025
Available to play
Kessler (illness) has been upgraded to available for Wednesday's game against the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Kessler, who was originally questionable, will be returning from a one-game absence. With John Collins (back) and Lauri Markkanen (back) both sidelined, Kessler could see a healthy workload.
Feb 25, 2025
Questionable to play Wednesday
Kessler (illness) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Kings, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was unable to play in Monday's loss to the Trail Blazers due to an illness, but the third-year center has a chance to return Wednesday. The 2022 first-round pick has averaged 11.9 points, 15.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 blocks over 34.1 minutes per game while shooting 72.4 percent from the field since the beginning of February.
Feb 24, 2025
Ruled out for Monday
Kessler (illness) will not play Monday against the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was unable to shake his questionable tag for this contest, but he's considered day-to-day. His next chance to play comes Wednesday against the Kings. With Lauri Markkanen (back) also out, Kyle Filipowski could have a big opportunity Monday.
Feb 23, 2025
Under the weather
Kessler is listed as questionable for Monday's game against Portland due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has hauled in 36 rebounds across the Jazz's two games since the All-Star break, but he's currently battling an illness that puts him in jeopardy of missing Monday's game. Kyle Filipowski would likely be inserted into the starting lineup if Kessler is not cleared to play.
Feb 22, 2025
Pulls down 19 boards in loss
Kessler (thumb) tallied four points (2-4 FG, 0-2 FT), 19 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block across 32 minutes in Friday's 130-107 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was held out for the Jazz's final game of the first half Feb. 13 versus the Clippers due to a left thumb sprain, but his absence was likely more of a maintenance day in the second leg of a back-to-back set. As expected, the third-year center was back in action coming out of the All-Star break, and though he didn't come close to matching the 15.8 points he averaged over his previous four appearances, he made his presence felt on the boards and contributed in both of the defensive categories. The Jazz will wrap up another back-to-back set Saturday versus the Rockets, and fantasy managers will want to keep close tabs on his status leading up to the 9:30 p.m. ET tipoff, as Kessler could be a candidate to rest once again.
Feb 21, 2025
Available Friday
Kessler (thumb) is not on the injury report for Friday's game against Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler sat the Jazz's final game before the break, but he's recovered and should handle his regular workload in this one. The big man has been productive in recent weeks, averaging 15.8 points and 15.0 rebounds per contest over his last four outings.
Feb 13, 2025
Won't go Thursday
Kessler has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Clippers due to a left thumb sprain.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was a late addition to the injury report due to the thumb injury, and his next chance to play will come Feb. 21 against the Thunder. With the big man sidelined, Kyle Filipowski and Micah Potter are candidates for an uptick in playing time.
Feb 13, 2025
Six rejections in Wednesday's win
Kessler chipped in 16 points (8-8 FG), eight rebounds, one assist, six blocks and two steals across 33 minutes during Wednesday's 131-119 victory over the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Five of his swats came before halftime, and his six blocks on the night were a new season high. Kessler has provided double-digit points or boards, or both, in six straight appearances to begin February, averaging 13.3 points, 14.7 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 2.0 assists and 0.8 steals during that span while shooting a blistering 71.4 percent from the floor.
Feb 9, 2025
Not on injury report for Monday
Kessler (shoulder) is off Utah's injury report for Monday's game against the Lakers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will return to action after missing Saturday's loss to the Clippers due to a left shoulder contusion. The big man has averaged 10.6 points, 15.2 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals across 33.6 minutes per game in his last five outings.
Feb 8, 2025
Sidelined with shoulder injury
Kessler (shoulder) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is not playing Saturday due to a left shoulder contusion, which he likely picked up during Friday's overtime loss to the Suns. Rookie second-round pick Kyle Filipowski will likely be inserted into the Jazz's starting five due to Kessler's injury. Kessler's next opportunity to play will be Monday against the Lakers.
Feb 8, 2025
Hauls in career-high 22 rebounds
Kessler provided 19 points (9-17 FG, 1-1 FT), 22 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal over 38 minutes during Friday's 135-127 overtime loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Kessler pulled down a career-high 22 rebounds, continuing his recent domination on the glass. Over the past four games, he is averaging 12.8 points, 17.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 35.1 minutes per game. Although the threat of missed games remains front and center, Kessler should continue to play heavy minutes for a Utah team that has shown promise of late, delivering four straight competitive performances.

Collects season-high 18 rebounds
Kessler posted 15 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 FT), 18 rebounds, two assists and three blocks over 36 minutes during Wednesday's 131-128 victory over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler produced his 20th double-double of the campaign Wednesday, also collecting a season-high 18 rebounds against a Warriors team missing Trayce Jackson-Davis (knee). Kessler's availability has been somewhat sporadic lately, but he's been a force in the paint for the Jazz when healthy. Across his last seven contests, the 2022 first-rounder has averaged 13.1 rebounds, 11.6 points, 1.7 blocks and 1.0 steals while shooting 72.9 percent from the field.
Feb 1, 2025
Grabs 15 boards against Orlando
Kessler provided eight points (3-3 FG, 2-4 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 33 minutes during Saturday's 113-99 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Kessler led both teams in rebounding Saturday, grabbing 15 boards for the eighth time this season (and fifth time since and including Jan. 1). Kessler has failed to score in double digits over his last two games, but the third-year center but continues to provide plenty of value on the boards and on defense. Since and includiong Jan. 1, he's averaged 12.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 blocks over 29.8 minutes per game.
Jan 30, 2025
Cleared to play Thursday
Kessler (shoulder) has been cleared to play in Thursday's game against the Timberwolves, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing the last two games for the Jazz with a shoulder contusion, Kessler will return to the floor Thursday against Minnesota. The former first-round pick is having his best season yet for Utah, averaging a double-double with 11.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, shooting a career-high 73 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point territory.
Jan 29, 2025
Questionable against Minnesota
Kessler (shoulder) has been listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has missed the last two games for the Jazz due to a left shoulder contusion. The 23-year-old big man has been having the best season of his career for Utah, averaging career-high numbers across the board, posting 11.3 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.4 blocks per game. He's also shooting a career-high 73 percent from the floor and 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Jan 28, 2025
Out again Tuesday
Kessler (shoulder) will not play Tuesday against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his second game in a row Tuesday, presumably after picking up the injury Saturday against Memphis. With John Collins (illness) and Lauri Markkanen (rest) also sidelined, Drew Eubanks, Kyle Filipowski and Brice Sensabaugh will likely see the bulk of the frontcourt minutes.
Jan 27, 2025
Won't play Monday
Kessler (shoulder) will not play Monday against the Bucks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was previously carrying a questionable tag, so fantasy managers can consider him day-to-day moving forward. With John Collins (illness) also sidelined, the Jazz may need to rely heavily on Kyle Filipowski and Drew Eubanks in the frontcourt.
Jan 26, 2025
Dealing with left shoulder injury
Kessler (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Bucks, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler likely injured his left shoulder during the Jazz's 125-103 loss to the Grizzlies on Saturday, during which he registered 11 points, 10 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals across 29 minutes. Kyle Filipowski and Drew Eubanks would be the top candidates to start at center Monday if Kessler is not cleared to play.
Jan 26, 2025
Posts perfect double-double
Kessler accumulated 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-1 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals in 29 minutes during Saturday's 125-103 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Not only did Kessler finish with his 19th double-double of the season, but he also achieved this feat while going perfect from the field, something he's now achieved six times this season. Kessler won't lead the Jazz in scoring on a regular basis, but he provides enough value on both ends of the court to remain a reliable fantasy option across all formats.
Jan 23, 2025
Nabs double-double in loss
Kessler supplied 17 points (8-10 FG, 1-4 FT), 15 rebounds, two blocks and one assist across 31 minutes during Wednesday's 123-114 loss to Oklahoma City.
ANALYSIS
Kessler posted his 18th double-double of the season in an extremely efficient performance from the field, albeit in a losing effort. The big man also recorded multiple blocks for the 25th time through 34 regular-season appearances, and he is on pace to tie his career high of 2.4 swats per game. Over his last five outings, Kessler has averaged 14.4 points, 12.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while shooting 78.0 percent from the field in 30.6 minutes per contest.
Jan 21, 2025
Double-doubles in loss
Kessler totaled 19 points (8-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and one block across 34 minutes during Monday's 123-119 overtime loss to New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Kessler recorded his 17th double-double of the season. He's been the second most valuable fantasy producer in nine-category formats for the Jazz, posting averages of 11.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in 29.8 minutes per contest.
Jan 19, 2025
Available vs. New Orleans
Kessler (rest) is available for Monday's game against the Jazz, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler received rest in Friday's loss to the Pelicans, but he'll be available for Monday's matchup. His return will give the Jazz a much-needed boost on both ends of the court, and it'll likely push Drew Eubanks back to the bench.
Jan 16, 2025
Remains out Friday
Kessler (rest) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Pelicans, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
After returning to the floor for Wednesday's loss against the Hornets, Kessler will rest Friday against the Pelicans. Drew Eubanks could be in line to start in place of the talented big man for Utah.
Jan 14, 2025
Good to go against Charlotte
Kessler (rest) isn't on the injury report for Wednesday's game versus the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will return to action Wednesday after sitting out Utah's previous contest due to rest purposes. The 23-year-old center should reclaim his starting spot from Drew Eubanks against Charlotte.
Jan 12, 2025
Resting Sunday
Kessler has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Nets due to rest.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will take a seat for the second night of a back-to-back set after posting 16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in 31 minutes during Saturday's loss to Phoenix. He should return to action against the Hornets on Wednesday, while Kyle Filipowski (ankle), Drew Eubanks and Micah Potter are all candidates for increased roles Sunday.
Jan 11, 2025
Posts 16th double-double of season
Kessler accumulated 16 points (7-9 FG, 2-3 FT), 13 rebounds and two blocks across 31 minutes during Saturday's 114-106 loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Kessler turned in his 16th double-double of the campaign Saturday, racking up double-digit boards for the ninth time in his last 10 games. During this time, the 23-year-old big man is averaging 13.5 rebounds, 11.3 points and 1.7 blocks in 31.3 minutes while shooting 71.6 percent from the field. With John Collins still dealing with a hip injury, Kessler should continue dominating on the glass as long as the former remains sidelined. Kessler remains one of fantasy's best in 2024-25 when it comes to producing in the swats, boards and field-goal percentage categories.
Jan 10, 2025
Strong two-way effort
Kessler racked up nine points (4-5 FG, 1-2 FT), 15 rebounds and two blocks over 30 minutes during Thursday's 97-92 loss to the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Kessler finished just one point away from recording what would've been his fourth consecutive double-double. Despite not being a go-to option on offense, Kessler remains a reliable two-way option for the Jazz, particularly due to his efficiency as a scoring weapon. Over his last 10 games, Kessler averaged 10.2 points and 12.9 rebounds per game while shooting 70.5 percent from the floor.
Jan 8, 2025
Posts another double-double
Kessler totaled 21 points (8-11 FG, 5-6 FT), 10 rebounds, three blocks and one steal in 30 minutes during Tuesday's 124-121 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had another solid two-way display Tuesday, recording a third straight double-double and reaching that feat for the fifth time over his last six contests. The big man remains one of the best two-way centers in the NBA, and he's averaging 12.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game over that six-game stretch.
Jan 6, 2025
Pulls down 17 boards
Kessler provided 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 FT), 17 rebounds, two assists and one block in 29 minutes during Sunday's 105-92 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Kessler recorded a double-double for the fourth time across his last five outings, and the big man continues to be among the most productive two-way interior presences in the league. Even though his scoring numbers remain subpar, as he hasn't reached the 15-point mark since Dec. 13, he should remain valuable in fantasy due to his rebounding and shot-blocking skills. He's averaging 10.6 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 blocks per game over his last five games.
Dec 31, 2024
Posts another double-double
Kessler amassed 12 points (6-6 FG), 13 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal over 38 minutes during Monday's 132-121 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was perfect from the floor and notched a second straight double-double, but it was also the fourth game in a row in which he racked up double-digit boards. The big man averaged a double-double in 12 appearances in December, tallying 10.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game in that stretch while settling himself as one of the best two-way big men in The Association.
Dec 23, 2024
Grabs 16 boards in loss
Kessler accumulated nine points (4-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-6 FT), 16 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in 38 minutes during Monday's 124-113 loss to the Cavaliers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler dominated the glass, grabbing at least 15 rebounds for the third time this season. After a disappointing sophomore season, Kessler has turned things around, averaging 10.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in 29.4 minutes per game. Despite some conjecture as to who would be the starting center in Utah, it appears as though Kessler has firmly established himself as the man in the middle moving forward.
Dec 17, 2024
Efficient in limited run Monday
Kessler finished with 10 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 FT), seven rebounds, one block and one steal in 23 minutes during Monday's 144-107 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was efficient across only 23 minutes during the blowout loss, in which he played 25 or fewer minutes for just the third time through 19 regular-season appearances. The big man has been productive on both ends of the floor while stuffing the stat sheet in his last 10 outings, during which he has averaged 12.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.8 assists while shooting 75.7 percent from the field across 31.5 minutes per contest.
Dec 9, 2024
Pulls down 14 rebounds
Kessler posted eight points (4-5 FG), 14 rebounds, two assists and four blocks in 32 minutes during Sunday's 141-97 loss to the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Kessler couldn't complete a double-double since he didn't have a lot of touches on offense, but he made the most of his opportunity while making all but one of his field goals. Kessler also grabbed double-digit rebounds for the sixth game in a row. He's averaging 14.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game in that span.
Dec 7, 2024
Excellent two-way display
Kessler amassed 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 FT), 17 rebounds, two assists and five blocks over 31 minutes during Friday's 141-99 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler recorded his fifth straight double-double Friday, but there's a strong argument to assess this performance as his best outing in the entire campaign. The big man notched a season-high mark in rebounds and also tied his season-best output in blocks, as this was the fourth time he rejected five swats. Kessler, who has six double-doubles in seven games since returning from a six-game absence due to a hip injury in mid-November, should remain a valuable fantasy option for fantasy managers across all formats, particularly in a position that isn't loaded with talent outside of the top-tier options.
Dec 4, 2024
Posts double-double
Kessler accumulated 17 points (6-7 FG, 5-8 FT), 11 rebounds and two blocks over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 133-106 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was extremely efficient on both ends of the court despite the blowout loss, missing just one of his shots from the field and recording his fourth straight double-double. It was also his fifth double-double across his last six outings since returning from a hip injury that sidelined him for six contests between Nov. 12 and Nov. 21. Kessler is averaging 13.5 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in that stretch.
Dec 1, 2024
Fills stat sheet Saturday
Kessler posted 18 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, five blocks and three steals over 30 minutes during Saturday's 106-94 loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz came up short against the Mavericks, but there's no question Kessler delivered one of his best fantasy performances of the campaign. This was his third double-double in four games since returning from a six-game absence due to a hip injury. Furthermore, Kessler now has seven double-doubles in 13 games while recording multiple blocks in all but two of those 13 appearances.
Nov 28, 2024
Records double-double in defeat
Kessler ended with 16 points (8-10 FG, 0-2 FT), 12 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and one steal in 31 minutes during Wednesday's 122-103 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's result was impressive considering the opponent. Contending with Nikola Jokic for boards is no easy feat, but Kessler actually recorded more rebounds than the All-Star in the loss. Since his return to action after a six-game absence, Kessler has recorded two double-doubles over three games.
Nov 23, 2024
Strong showing in return
Kessler logged 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and three blocks over 35 minutes during Saturday's 121-106 win over the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler re-entered the starting lineup at center upon his return from right hip bursitis, and he didn't waste any time getting involved on the glass and as a scorer. He posted his fifth double-double in 10 appearances this season and put the cherry on top of his stellar night by recording a team-high three blocks. It's also worth noting that Kessler logged 35 minutes, so he doesn't appear to be on any type of minute restriction despite a six-game absence.
Nov 23, 2024
Good to go Saturday
Kessler (hip) will play in Saturday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will make his return from a six-game absence Saturday after dealing with right hip bursitis. Before the injury, Kessler appeared in nine games and averaged 9.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.8 blocks across 26.4 minutes.
Nov 22, 2024
Questionable for Saturday
Kessler (hip) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has missed Utah's last six games with right hip bursitis, and the upgrade to questionable represents a step in the right direction. A decision on the big man's status will be made closer to the 5 p.m. ET tipoff Saturday, though. If he's out, then John Collins should continue to start at center.
Nov 20, 2024
Will remain out Thursday
Kessler (hip) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is slated to miss a sixth straight game due to right hip bursitis. John Collins should continue to start at center. Kessler's next chance to sui tup will come Saturday against the Knicks.
Nov 18, 2024
Will remain out for Tuesday
Kessler (hip) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Lakers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler hasn't taken the floor since Nov. 9 due to right hip bursitis. His next chance at a return will arrive Thursday against the Spurs, though he'd likely need to ramp up his activity quickly to have a chance to play.
Nov 17, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Kessler (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Clippers, kslsports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his fourth consecutive contest due to right hip inflammation. John Collins will likely draw the start again with Kessler sidelined. The big man's next chance to suit up will come Tuesday against the Lakers.
Nov 15, 2024
Won't play Saturday
Kessler (hip) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Kings, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss a third straight game due to a hip injury, and it's unclear whether he'll be able to return for the second leg of a back-to-back against the Clippers on Sunday. John Collins will likely continue to start at center for as long as Kessler is sidelined.
Nov 13, 2024
Won't play Thursday
Kessler (hip) is out for Thursday's game against the Mavericks, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is set for a second straight absence Thursday, and it seems the big man doesn't have a clear timetable for his return. This means John Collins and Drew Eubanks will absorb the minutes at center, with Collins likely starting in Kessler's place again. Kessler's next chance to play will come against the Kings on Saturday.
Nov 12, 2024
Ruled out for Tuesday
Kessler won't play Tuesday against the Suns due to right hip soreness.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his first game of the campaign Tuesday. There are no reports regarding the severity of the issue, but fantasy managers should operate under the assumption that he's day-to-day until more information is known. With Kessler out of the lineup, John Collins and Drew Eubanks could be more involved for the Jazz.
Nov 5, 2024
Grabs career-high 16 rebounds
Kessler finished with 12 points (6-7 FG, 0-2 FT), 16 rebounds, two assists and four blocks in 32 minutes during Monday's 135-126 victory over the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
The 16 boards were Kessler's career high, surpassing the mark of 15 he set last season -- ironically, also in Chicago in November. After struggling with consistency through Utah's first four games, Kessler has found his groove with back-to-back double-doubles, totaling 30 points, 30 rebounds, nine blocks and two assists while missing just two shots from the field. Kessler's numbers could take a hit when Lauri Markkanen (back) returns, but fantasy managers are getting what they wanted out of Kessler as a whole thus far if they drafted him in season-long formats.
Nov 3, 2024
Efficient double-double
Kessler produced 18 points (5-6 FG, 8-12 FT), 14 rebounds and five blocks across 29 minutes during Saturday's 129-103 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler notched his third double-double of the season and delivered an efficient showing from the field. Even though fantasy managers could use a bit more consistency from Kessler's scoring numbers on a game-to-game basis, the third-year big man has started the campaign on a strong note. Kessler is averaging 9.7 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per contest while recording three double-doubles across six contests.
Oct 29, 2024
Strong two-way output Monday
Kessler finished with 12 points (6-11 FG, 0-2 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist, two blocks and two steals over 30 minutes during Monday's 110-102 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was limited to just two points in the blowout loss to the Warriors on Oct. 25, but other than that, the big man has been excellent to start the season with two double-doubles in three starts. He remains an impactful player on defense as well, racking up eight blocks and three steals in those three contests.
Oct 26, 2024
Grabs nine boards vs. Golden State
Kessler totaled two points (1-1 FG), nine rebounds, two assists and one block in 20 minutes during Friday's 127-86 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was the Jazz's leading rebounder Friday, though that was about all he did in a blowout loss. Kessler had just one shot attempt and won't likely see many field-goal tries while playing alongside Lauri Markkanen, Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton and Keyonte George. However, Kessler will provide plenty of value on the defensive end of the floor, highlighted by his 2.4 blocks per across just 23.3 minutes per game over 64 regular-season outings (22 starts) during the 2023-24 campaign.
Oct 24, 2024
Excellent two-way display
Kessler had 16 points (6-7 FG, 4-5 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist, five blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Wednesday's 126-124 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was extremely efficient Wednesday and delivered a strong effort on both ends of the court, though his 14 boards and five blocks certainly stood out. He looked dominant regardless of whether he was matched against Zach Edey or Jay Huff, and he should be a regular double-double threat as long as he remains the starting center for the Jazz. All signs point to that being the case, though.
Oct 21, 2024
Team option exercised
The Jazz exercised the fourth-year rookie scale option on Kessler's contract Monday.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is now under contract through the 2025-26 season. After starting 40 games as a rookie, the big man made only 22 starts last year. He operated as a starter during the preseason, so an expanded role in Year 3 is possible, though it remains unclear if coach Will Hardy will let Kessler play 25-plus minutes a night consistently.
Oct 10, 2024
Grabs 15 rebounds Thursday
Kessler finished with nine points (4-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt), 15 rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks across 24 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 preseason win over the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George (knee) and even John Collins delivered solid performances on the offensive end of the court, but Kessler made his presence felt defensively and on the glass, two areas in which he already stands out. It's unclear if Kessler will open the 2024-25 regular season as the starting center for the Jazz, but if that's the case, he'll add some much-needed size and rim protection to a towering Utah lineup that should also feature Markkanen and Taylor Hendricks in the first unit.
Oct 7, 2024
Starting vs. Houston
Kessler is in the starting lineup for Monday's preseason game against the Rockets, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler drew the start in Utah's preseason opener against the New Zealand Breakers on Friday, and the 23-year-old will do so again Monday. He'll join Keyonte George, Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Taylor Hendricks in the Jazz's starting five, with John Collins presumably coming off the bench.
Oct 1, 2024
Will play with starters in camp
Coach Will Hardy said Tuesday he anticipates Kessler playing a lot with the starters during the preseason, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After starting 40 games in 2022-23, Kessler made only 22 starts last year. Hardy was far from committal about Kessler being a starter to begin the 2024-25 campaign, but it does sound like the youngster will at least get a chance to compete for the top spot. The Jazz have a deep frontcourt with a solid mix of prospects and veteran players, but it's unclear how the playing time will be sorted out. For now, Lauri Markkanen and John Collins are the only guys guaranteed starter minutes.
Jul 9, 2024
Won't play Tuesday
Kessler (rest) will not play in Tuesday's Salt Lake City Summer League matchup versus the Thunder, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler tallied 10 points, six rebounds, a game-high five blocks, two assists and two steals in Monday's Summer League win over the Grizzlies. However, the third-year professional will sit out of Tuesday's matchup, allowing the Jazz to get a better look at their rookie class of Cody Williams, Isaiah Collier and Kyle Filipowski. Kessler's next chance to play will come Wednesday against the 76ers.
Apr 16, 2024
Expected to play in Summer League
The Jazz plan to have Kessler (nose) participate in the 2024 NBA Summer League, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After a nice rookie season in 2022-23 in which Kessler started his final 34 appearances, he was selected in the early-to-mid rounds of most fantasy leagues this season. Managers that did so were disappointed. The center's points (8.1) and rebounds (7.5) per game decreased, as did his field-goal percentage (65.4). He also started just 22 games and crossed the 30-minute threshold only eight times. While the Jazz also had interest in developing other bigs like John Collins and Taylor Hendricks, plus giving minutes to Kelly Olynyk before trading him to Toronto, Kessler's role gave the impression that he wasn't impressing coach Will Hardy. The organization seems to believe it would be best for Kessler to get more development minutes this summer.
Apr 13, 2024
Ruled out for Sunday
Kessler (nose) will not play Sunday against the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will end up missing the final six games of the campaign. After a breakout rookie season in 2022-23, Kessler couldn't really build on that momentum in 2023-24. He finished the season with averages of 8.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 23.3 minutes across 64 appearances.
Apr 12, 2024
Won't play Friday
Kessler (nose) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Clippers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler continues to deal with a nasal fracture and will be unavailable for a fifth consecutive matchup. His final chance to return during the regular season will be Sunday against Golden State.
Apr 10, 2024
Another absence coming
Kessler (nose) is out for Thursday's game versus the Rockets, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his fourth straight contest Thursday due to a nasal fracture. Omer Yurtseven should receive another start in his absence.
Apr 8, 2024
Ruled out for Tuesday
Kessler (nose) won't play Tuesday against the Nuggets, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his third straight contest since suffering a broken nose. Omer Yurtseven should be in line for another start at center with John Collins (back) also out.
Apr 6, 2024
Not playing vs. Warriors
Kessler (nose) is out for Sunday's game against the Warriors, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler suffered a nasal fracture in Tuesday's 129-113 loss to the Cavaliers, and the Jazz are not going to risk him in the final games of the season, especially considering the team has nothing to play for. This means Omer Yurtseven is expected to remain in the starting lineup Friday, while Kessler's next chance to play will come against the Nuggets on Tuesday.
Apr 4, 2024
Ruled out for Friday
Kessler (nose) will not play Friday against the Clippers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler suffered a nasal fracture Tuesday against the Cavaliers, but the Jazz will continue to monitor him closely for the swelling and inflammation. For now, Kessler can be considered questionable for Sunday against the Warriors. In the meantime, Omer Yurtseven could step into a larger role with John Collins (back) also sidelined.
Apr 2, 2024
Out for remainder of game
Kessler won't return to Tuesday's game versus the Cavaliers due to a nasal fracture. He will end the contest with six points (3-3 FG), one assist and one block in nine minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler left Tuesday's contest with 5:22 remaining in the second quarter after being hit in the face and has been ruled out for the remainder of the game. Omer Yurtseven will likely receive increased playing time in his absence. Kessler's next chance to suit up is Friday's matchup with the Clippers.
Mar 31, 2024
Starting Sunday
Kessler will start during Sunday's game against the Kings, David Locke of Locked on Podcast reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will return to the starting lineup due to John Collins (back) being out of the lineup. The 22-year-old pro is averaging 9.0 points, 10.0 rebounds 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in 27.0 minutes per game over his last three starts.
Mar 23, 2024
Moves to bench Saturday
Kessler is not in the starting lineup to face the Rockets on Saturday, Lachard Binkley of TheDreamShake.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will head back to the bench since John Collins (face) is available and will recover his regular starting spot at center. Kessler is averaging 7.1 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game since the All-Star break.
Mar 22, 2024
Just misses double-double in start
Kessler chipped in 14 points (7-7 FG), nine rebounds and two assists over 27 minutes during Thursday's 113-97 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
John Collins (face) sat out the contest, giving Kessler a chance to move into the starting lineup. Kessler performed well in making all seven of his field-goal attempts and leading Utah with nine boards, though he failed to record a block for the first time in his past 29 games. The big man has come off the bench for the majority of the campaign but still ranks second in the NBA with 2.5 swats per contest.
Mar 21, 2024
Joins starting lineup
Kessler will join the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
John Collins (head) is being held out for the second leg of this back-to-back set, so this is an expected move for Kessler. As a starter this season, Kessler holds averages of 8.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.
Mar 19, 2024
Top rebounder off bench in loss
Kessler closed Monday's 114-104 loss to Minnesota with six points (2-3 FG, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists and one block in 28 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler returned to the bench in Monday's defeat, leading all players in rebounds while adding a half-dozen points to provide a spark off the bench. Kessler has hauled in 14 or more boards in three games this season, surpassing the double-digit mark in three of his last five outings.
Mar 17, 2024
Nears double-double in start
Kessler closed with seven points (3-4 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and one block over 30 minutes during Saturday's 119-100 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Kessler returned to the starting lineup due to the absence of John Collins (rest), hauling in a team-high-tying rebound total while ending three points short of a double-double in a balanced performance. Kessler has been strong on the glass for Utah this season, posting his 14th game with 10 or more rebounds. He has hauled in 10 or more boards in three of his last five outings, adding five or more points in all three of those contests.
Mar 16, 2024
Moves to starting role Saturday
Kessler is in the starting lineup to face the Timberwolves on Saturday, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will move to a starting role due to the absence of John Collins (rest), and he could be in line for a productive outing. His size and touch near the rim could be valuable Saturday against a slightly undersized Minnesota frontcourt of Kyle Anderson and Naz Reid.
Mar 13, 2024
Top rebounder off bench in loss
Kessler ended with two points (1-1 FG), eight rebounds, one assist and one block over 19 minutes during Tuesday's 123-107 loss to Boston.
ANALYSIS
Kessler continues to work his way back to full strength after recently returning to the rotation after missing time with a right foot sprain, coming off the bench Tuesday while leading all Jazz players in rebounds in just under 20 minutes. Kessler has hauled in eight or more boards in two straight contests since his return, taking the court in 21.5 minutes per game over that two-game span.
Mar 12, 2024
Returns to bench
Kessler isn't in the starting five for Tuesday's game versus the Celtics, David Locke of Jazz radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will be replaced by Luka Samanic in the starting lineup Tuesday. Kessler is averaging 8.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.2 assists in 22.8 minutes across his last five appearances coming off the bench.
Mar 9, 2024
Top rebounder in return
Kessler finished with six points (3-9 FG), 11 rebounds, two assists and one block over 24 minutes in Saturday's 142-121 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Kessler returned after missing the past four games with a foot injury by lead all players in Saturday's contest in rebounds to go along with a pair of assists and connecting on a trio of shots to conclude with a half-dozen points in a balanced performance. Kessler has hauled in 10 or more rebounds in 13 games this season, including in out straight outings.
Mar 9, 2024
Good to go against Denver
Kessler (foot) is available for Saturday's game versus the Nuggets, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Walker has been upgraded from questionable to available Saturday after missing Utah's last four games with a right foot sprain. Kessler is averaging 8.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.4 assists in 23.4 minutes across his last 10 appearances.
Mar 8, 2024
Listed as questionable
Kessler (foot) is questionable for Saturday's game against Denver.
ANALYSIS
Kessler missed the past four games for Utah, but he's trending in the right direction. The questionable tag suggests that he's day-to-day, and he was able to turn in a full practice Thursday. If cleared, Kessler will likely reprise his role as the backup center behind John Collins.
Mar 7, 2024
Turns in full practice
Kessler (foot) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz have yet to provide an updated injury report for Saturday's game in Denver, but Kessler should have a good chance at being listed as questionable or probable -- if not cleared from the report entirely -- for that contest. Kessler has missed the Jazz's last four games with a right foot sprain, but if available Saturday, he'll likely re-enter the rotation as the top backup to starting center John Collins.
Mar 5, 2024
Won't play Wednesday
Kessler (foot) will not play in Wednesday's game against the Bulls, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
This will be the fourth straight game on the sidelines for Kessler and it's not a great sign that he continues to be ruled out a day in advance. The Jazz will be off until Saturday against the Nuggets after Wednesday's game, but Kessler should be considered questionable at best.
Mar 3, 2024
Out again
Kessler (foot) won't play in Monday's game against the Wizards.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will extend his streak of consecutive games missed to three due to a right foot sprain. With Lauri Markkanen (quad) also out, Brice Sensabaugh, Omer Yurtseven and Luka Samanic could be in line for increased run.
Mar 2, 2024
Officially out
Kessler (foot) has been ruled out for Saturday's game versus the Heat.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's absence will mark his second straight due to a right foot sprain. Prior to these two absences, the big man had not missed a game since Dec. 11. Luka Samanic entered the rotation with Kessler out of the last game and could be in line to do so again.
Mar 1, 2024
Draws questionable tag
Kessler (foot) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Heat, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was ruled out for Thursday's loss to the Magic due to a right foot sprain and missed his first game since Dec. 11. In Kessler's absence, Luka Samanic entered the rotation but didn't make a significant impact.
Feb 29, 2024
Won't play Thursday
Kessler (foot) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Magic, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was questionable for Thursday's matchup due to a right foot sprain, and he'll be unavailable for the first time since Dec. 11. John Collins, Brice Sensabaugh and Omer Yurtseven are candidates to see an uptick in playing time against Orlando.
Feb 28, 2024
Questionable for Thursday's game
Kessler is questionable for Thursday's game against the Magic due to a right foot sprain.
ANALYSIS
Kessler hasn't missed a game since mid-December, but he's dealing with a foot injury after posting a double-double in Tuesday's loss to Atlanta. If he's unavailable against Orlando, John Collins, Taylor Hendricks and Omer Yurtseven could see additional playing time.
Feb 28, 2024
Double-double off bench
Kessler notched 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 30 minutes off the bench during Tuesday's 124-97 loss to the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
It's the second-year center's first double-double since New Year's Day and his seventh of the season. Kessler's numbers have been disappointing in 2023-24 and he's taken a back seat in the Jazz frontcourt to John Collins, but the 22-year-old remains a strong rim protector -- he's recorded at least one block in 22 straight games, and he's racked up multiple rejections in nine of the last 11 contests.
Feb 22, 2024
Headed to the bench Thursday
Kessler will come off the bench for Thursday's game against the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had made his way into the starting unit over Utah's final four games heading into the All-Star break, but he now finds himself back in the second unit. He'll be replaced by Taylor Hendricks in the first unit and his value will dip in the reserve role.
Feb 13, 2024
Fills stat sheet Monday
Kessler notched 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds, one assist, four blocks and two steals over 26 minutes during Monday's 129-107 loss to the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was impressive on both ends of the court Monday, missing just two shots from the field and making his presence felt on the defensive end. He's started Utah's last two games since the trade deadline, and all signs point to him staying in that role from now on. He's averaging 9.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game when deployed in a starting role this season.
Feb 9, 2024
Swats four shots in start
Kessler chipped in 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, two assists, four blocks and two steals in 27 minutes during Thursday's 129-115 loss to the Suns.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had come off the bench in 20 straight games prior to Thursday, but he moved into the starting lineup versus Phoenix after Utah traded Simone Fontecchio to the Pistons in exchange for Kevin Knox and a 2024 second-round draft pick. Kessler responded with a near double-double and another fine effort defensively, extending his streak of games with three-plus blocks to five contests. It's unclear how the Jazz will shift their lineup after Thursday's roster shakeup -- both Kelly Olynyk and guard Ochai Agbaji also departed, with Kira Lewis and Otto Porter coming to Utah in return -- but there's a decent chance that Kessler will return to the bench, as he's been backing up John Collins (who slid into a forward spot Thursday) at center. Even as a reserve, Kessler is an impactful player in fantasy due to his tantalizing shot-blocking ability.
Feb 5, 2024
Big contributor in comeback win
Kessler notched 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks over 27 minutes during Sunday's 123-108 win over Milwaukee.
ANALYSIS
As usual, John Collins started at center for Utah, but Kessler ended up playing three more minutes. That was largely due to a huge fourth quarter during which the Jazz outscored Milwaukee by 27 points with same five players (Kessler, Jordan Clarkson, Keyonte George, Lauri Markkanen and Kelly Olynyk) on the floor for the entire period. Kessler registered nine points during that run, and he finished with his highest scoring total since mid-December. Kessler's shot-blocking ability is what carries his value in fantasy -- he's swatted at least one shot in 14 straight games, with multiple blocks 10 times during that span -- so whatever scoring he does to complement his defensive work is generally icing on the cake for those who roster him.
Jan 28, 2024
Limited minutes again Saturday
Kessler provided 10 points (5-6 FG), four rebounds and three blocks over 16 minutes during Saturday's 134-122 victory over Charlotte.
ANALYSIS
Kessler played fewer than 20 minutes for the second straight game, a trend managers will be hoping reverses itself sooner rather than later. After playing at least 25 minutes in four consecutive outings, the rotation in Utah appears to be up in the air from one game to the next. With that said, Kessler remains a hold given his ability to block shots and score on high efficiency.
Jan 21, 2024
Impactful Saturday
Kessler fouled out of Saturday's 127-126 overtime loss to Houston after recording seven points (2-4 FG, 3-6 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and five blocks over 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's block production is establishing a quality fantasy floor, even while seemingly being capped to a 20-to-25 minute role at this time. Saturday marked just his third game since Dec. 21 with double-digit rebounds, however, and his 18.1 percent defensive rebounding rate ranks in just the 52nd percentile among all bigs this season. John Collins logged 20 minutes Saturday, and Kessler is a candidate to eat into his role down the stretch, although coach Will Hardy continuing to dictate his rotation based on the nightly matchup is very plausible.
Jan 4, 2024
Serves up six swats
Kessler logged eight points (4-6 FG), eight rebounds, one assist and six blocks across 29 minutes during Wednesday's 154-148 overtime victory over the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Kessler blocked six shots in the win, playing at least 29 minutes for just the second time in the past seven games. He continues to come off the bench, a fact that has not been lost on fantasy managers. Despite the frustration, Kessler has still been able to put up borderline top-30 value over that time, thanks primarily to his 7.9 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game.
Dec 30, 2023
Shifts to bench
Kessler isn't starting Saturday's game against the Heat, radio voice of the Jazz, David Locke, reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler entered the starting lineup Thursday against the Pelicans, but he'll return to a bench role Saturday with the Jazz electing to roll with Simone Fontecchio at power forward and John Collins at center. Kessler is averaging 8.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in his last three contests off the bench.
Dec 28, 2023
Moves into starting lineup
Kessler will start Thursday's game against the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Kelly Olynyk will move to the bench after starting the last three games for Utah. Kessler has come off the bench 11 times this season, and Thursday's game will mark his 13th start of the campaign. As a starter, Kessler holds averages of 9.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.9 blocks.
Dec 19, 2023
Makes big impact as starter
Kessler chipped in 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 FT), 14 rebounds and five blocks over 32 minutes during Monday's 125-108 win over the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had started just twice in 10 games since returning from a foot injury Nov. 22 before working with the first unit Monday. The second-year center made a strong case to remain in the first unit, producing his fifth double-double of the season and swatting five shots. Over his past three games as a starter, Kessler has averaged an impactful 10.7 points, 12.0 boards and 5.6 blocks.
Dec 18, 2023
Back with first unit
Kessler is starting Monday against the Nets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler shifted to a bench role for Saturday's matchup against the Kings, but he'll return to the starting lineup Monday night. Kelly Olynyk bumps into a reserve role as a result of this change.
Dec 16, 2023
Moves to second unit
Kessler will move to the bench for Saturday's game against the Kings, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz are missing backup center Omer Yurtseven (illness) in addition to John Collins (illness), while Lauri Markkanen returns from a rest day to pair up with Kelly Olynyk in the frontcourt. Walker is coming off a strong showing against the Trail Blazers on Thursday, as he racked up 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, seven blocks and one steal in 26 minutes.
Dec 15, 2023
Double-double in Thursday's start
Kessler finished with 10 points (5-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 10 rebounds, four assists, seven blocks and one steal across 26 minutes during Thursday's 122-114 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
The double-double was just his fourth of the season, as Kessler has generally struggled to stay healthy and match his form from his rookie season in 2022-23. The 22-year-old center has remained an elite rim protector however, and since returning from an elbow injury in late November he's recorded multiple blocks in eight of nine games, averaging 9.6 points, 8.7 boards, 3.3 blocks and 1.7 assists over that stretch while shooting 57.7 percent from the floor.
Dec 14, 2023
Moves to starting lineup
Kessler is in the starting lineup to face the Trail Blazers on Thursday, Jazz's radio announcer David Locke reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will make just his second start since Nov. 6, a span that included a seven-game absence and a new-found role off the bench. The big man is averaging 8.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game when deployed as a starter this season.
Dec 13, 2023
Cleared to face Knicks
Kessler (foot) will play in Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will return from a one-game absence due to right foot soreness after initially being labeled questionable for Wednesday's tilt. He'll likely return to the starting lineup, a role in which he's averaged 8.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks over 24.8 minutes per contest.
Dec 13, 2023
Upgraded to probable
Kessler (foot) is probable for Wednesday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been upgraded from questionable to probable and will likely return from a one-game absence due to right foot soreness. He started a Dec. 8 loss to the Clippers, totaling eight points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and two steals, but he had come off the bench in his previous six appearances, averaging 9.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks during that stretch.
Dec 12, 2023
Questionable for Wednesday
Kessler (foot) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Knicks, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler missed Monday's game against the Thunder with foot soreness, but the issue is believed to be mild and he's considered day-to-day. John Collins (illness) and Lauri Markkanen (hamstring) are also considered questionable for the Jazz, so they may need guys like Kelly Olynyk and Simone Fontecchio to step up if they are shorthanded.
Dec 10, 2023
Dealing with foot injury
Kessler has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Thunder due to right foot soreness.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had returned to the starting lineup in Friday's game against the Clippers after coming off the bench for six straight games following his return from an elbow injury, but he will face another setback in the form of a foot injury. Omer Yurtseven and Kelly Olynyk will likely see significant minutes in Kessler's absence.
Dec 9, 2023
Grabs 12 rebounds in loss
Kessler ended with eight points (4-9 FG), 12 rebounds, three assists, four blocks and two steals over 31 minutes during Friday's 117-103 loss to the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler woke up with a double-digit scoring total after failing to hit that milestone for five straight games. During his starting tenure to begin the season, Kessler delivered with solid rebound numbers in the starting lineup, and playing with the first unit will help Kessler's fantasy value if he continues to get the nod over Omer Yurtseven and Kelly Olynyk.
Dec 8, 2023
Moves into starting lineup
Kessler will move into the starting lineup Friday against the Clippers, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has come off the bench in his last six games, although his minutes have been higher than previous starter Omer Yurtseven. Kessler is coming off a quiet game against Dallas on Wednesday in which he was held to six points, eight rebounds and one steal, but perhaps a move back into the first unit will help him get it going.
Dec 7, 2023
Secures eight rebounds
Kessler recorded six points (3-7 FG), eight rebounds and one steal across 27 minutes during Wednesday's 147-97 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler came off the bench for a sixth consecutive game Wednesday and was held to a single-digit scoring total for the third time in his last four appearances, but he remained consistent on the boards. Despite operating as a reserve since returning from a seven-game absence, Kessler has been more productive than he was as a starter, as he's averaged 9.8 points and 8.0 rebounds in 25.7 minutes per game over his last six appearances.
Nov 30, 2023
Blocks six shots Wednesday
Kessler recorded nine points (4-11 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, two assists, six blocks and one steal in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 105-91 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Kessler continues to come off the bench, something that is likely to change sooner rather than later. Since returning from injury, He has blocked a total of 10 shots in three games, adding a combined 27 rebounds. After a slow start to the season, it appears that Kessler is fully healthy and looking a lot like the player we expected to see coming into the season.
Nov 29, 2023
Coming off bench Wednesday
Kessler isn't in the starting five for Wednesday's game versus the Grizzlies, David Locke of Utah Jazz radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will come off the bench for the third straight contest, with Omer Yurtseven starting at center. Kessler played 26 minutes in his previous appearance and is being ramped up for a full workload.
Nov 27, 2023
On minutes restriction Monday
Kessler is expected to be available for 21-26 minutes Monday against the Clippers, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler played 21 minutes of the bench in Saturday's win over New Orleans, which marked his first game back after a seven-game absence to recover from a sprained UCL in his left elbow. Omer Yurtseven will start again Monday, but Kessler should continue ramping up while acclimating to game shape without overworking his elbow.
Nov 26, 2023
Double-doubles in return
Kessler supplied 11 points (5-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, two blocks and one steal across 21 minutes during Saturday's 105-100 victory over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Kessler returned to action Saturday, playing 21 minutes off the bench. Despite the extended layoff, he got right back to business, producing a double-double with three combined steals and blocks. After a slow start to the season, managers will be hoping that now that he has had time to rest his elbow, he will start to look more like the player from last season. Given what we saw from him here, he should once again be deployed in all leagues moving forward.
Nov 25, 2023
Available off bench
Kessler (elbow) will be available off the bench Saturday against the Pelicans, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler does not have specific restrictions, but coach Will Hardy made it sound like the decision to bring him off the bench was partially to keep his minutes in check. Regardless, Kessler's fantasy managers will be glad to have him back in lineups for his ability to swat shots at an elite level.
Nov 25, 2023
Expected to play Saturday
Kessler (elbow) is now listed as probable for Saturday's game versus the Pelicans, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been upgraded from questionable to probable Saturday after missing the last seven games with a left elbow sprain. The second-year big man will likely replace Kelly Olynyk in the starting five against New Orleans.
Nov 24, 2023
Questionable for Saturday
Kessler (elbow) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Pelicans, according to Jazz radio host David Locke.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was cleared for basketball activities Monday, but he wasn't expected to be re-evaluated until after the weekend. If Kessler gets the green light for an early return, he would provide a huge lift to Utah and his fantasy managers. John Collins, Kelly Olynyk and Omer Yurtseven all took on larger roles in Kessler's absence.
Nov 20, 2023
Cleared for basketball activities
The Jazz announced Monday that Kessler (elbow) has been cleared to begin basketball activities and will be re-evaluated in one week, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler sprained the UCL in his left elbow during the regular-season opener but tried to play through the pain. He was eventually shut down after making eight appearances and was expected to miss at least two weeks. It appears he'll miss more time than expected, but his return to basketball activities is still a great sign. However, as long as he remains sidelined, Ochai Agbaji, Lauri Markkanen and John Collins should start in Utah's frontcourt, while Kelly Olynyk handles an increased bench role.
Nov 8, 2023
Out at least two weeks
Kessler (elbow) will be out for at least two weeks due to a UCL sprain in his left elbow, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler suffered his injury in the opening game of the season but has been playing through discomfort. However, the second-year big man will now rest his elbow without contact for at least two weeks in order to get healthy. Kelly Olynyk and Omer Yurtseven are candidates to see increased roles in Kessler's absence.
Nov 8, 2023
Downgraded to doubtful
Kessler (elbow) has been downgraded to doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Pacers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was previously listed as questionable, as he's dealing with a left elbow sprain. This is really unfortunate timing, as he is coming off the best game of his season against the Bulls. Assuming Kessler is unable to play Wednesday, we're likely to see a lot of Kelly Olynyk at the five. Omer Yurtseven could see a bump in minutes off the bench as well.
Nov 7, 2023
Dealing with elbow sprain
Kessler is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pacers due to a left elbow sprain, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler had arguably his best all-around game of the season Monday versus the Bulls, posting 15 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks in 31 minutes. However, he's emerged from that contest with an injury. The severity of the elbow sprain is unclear, but if Kessler is unable to suit up Wednesday, Kelly Olynyk, Omer Yurtseven and John Collins could be candidates for increased playing time at center.
Nov 7, 2023
Looks great against Bulls
Kessler ended with 15 points (5-12 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-6 FT), 15 rebounds and four blocks in 31 minutes during Monday's 130-113 loss to the Bulls.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's start to the 2023-24 season hasn't been ideal by any means, but he was terrific against the Bulls and even connected on another three-pointer for his second of the campaign. His four blocks brought his average up to 2.1 per game, so he's starting to catch up to the pace we saw during his rookie year when he swatted 2.3 per night.
Nov 4, 2023
Struggles continue Saturday
Kessler closed with four points (2-3 FG), four rebounds and three blocks across 22 minutes during Saturday's 123-95 loss to the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Kessler showed promise as a rookie, averaging 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game, but he has regressed drastically in the early stages of his sophomore year. Kessler has acknowledged his struggles after a summer in which he represented Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but the reality is that he has been delivering subpar outings every time he steps on the court. Kessler has scored in double digits just once this season and has grabbed 10 or more rebounds just twice across seven contests.
Nov 2, 2023
Available Thursday
Kessler (elbow) is available for Thursday's game against the Magic, KSL Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was carrying a probable tag prior to this update, as he's dealing with some mild soreness in his elbow. He's off to a slow start this season, compiling averages of 8.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks.
Nov 2, 2023
Expected to play against Orlando
Kessler is probable for Thursday's game versus the Magic due to left elbow soreness, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has yet to miss a game so far this season and is expected to play on the second leg of Utah's back-to-back Thursday. The second-year center is averaging 8.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 22.8 minutes across his first five appearances this season.
Oct 31, 2023
Emerging from hibernation
Kessler contributed 22 points (10-11 FG, 2-3 FT), 13 rebounds and one block across 29 minutes during Monday's 110-102 loss to the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler broke out in a big way Monday, posting his first double-double of the season with uber-efficiency. The 22-year-old averaging just 5.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in Utah's first three games was one of the bigger storylines among second-year players in the league this season, as Kessler has not resembled the hyper-active, two-way player showcased last season. He'll look to carry his momentum into Wednesday's contest against a short-handed Memphis frontcourt.
Oct 26, 2023
Efficient against Sacramento
Kessler closed Wednesday's 130-114 loss to Sacramento with eight points (4-5 FG), eight rebounds and one block in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler tied for the fewest minutes of any starter for the Jazz on Wednesday, but he was still efficient from the floor and approached a double-double in the loss. The 22-year-old averaged 9.2 points and 8.4 rebounds in 23.0 minutes per game while shooting 72.0 percent from the floor as a rookie last year.
Aug 29, 2023
Healthy at World Cup
Kessler (concussion) recorded four points and one rebound in six minutes during USA's 109-81 victory over Greece in the FIBA World Cup on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Kessler ended the 2022-23 campaign in concussion protocol, but as expected, he's back to full strength this summer. The 2022 No. 22 overall pick has a limited role for USA's World Cup squad, but it's still valuable experience for the 22-year-old heading into Year 2. Kessler exceeded expectations as a rookie, posting 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 23.0 minutes per game across 74 appearances (40 starts) and figures to be Utah's starting center for years to come.
Apr 3, 2023
Ruled out for regular season
Kessler (concussion) has been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler entered the league's concussion protocol Monday and will be unavailable for Utah's final four games of the regular season. The team is still in the mix for a spot in the Play-In Tournament, and it's possible he'll be able to return if the Jazz qualify for the postseason. However, Udoka Azubuike, Kelly Olynyk and Damian Jones will likely see additional work in the frontcourt to close out the regular season.
Apr 3, 2023
Entering concussion protocol
Kessler is entering the league's concussion protocol Monday, Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler exited Sunday's game against the Nets while being evaluated for a concussion, and his diagnosis has been confirmed by the team's medical staff. The Jazz have just four games remaining in the regular season, and it's unclear whether the rookie will be available for any of those matchups, but it's certainly possible he'll be sidelined for the remainder of the season. If he's unavailable down the stretch, Udoka Azubuike, Kelly Olynyk and Damian Jones are candidates to see increased run.
Apr 2, 2023
Won't return Sunday
Kessler is being evaluated for a concussion and will not return to Sunday's game, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler took a blow to the head and was a bit wobbly as he headed to the locker room, so it's not surprising to see him ruled out for the rest of the game with Utah down by 20 points. He should be considered questionable for Tuesday's matchup with the Lakers, and if he can't give it a go, that would result in more minutes for Kelly Olynyk and Udoka Azubuike.

Logs 20-point double-double
Kessler recorded 20 points (10-13 FG), 10 rebounds, two assists and three blocks in 34 minutes during Friday's 122-114 loss to the Celtics.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was incredibly efficient Friday, knocking down 10 of his 13 shot attempts to reach the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season. The rookie center was dominant on the glass, pulling in five offensive rebounds and submitting double-digit rebounds for the third time in his last four appearances. Kessler should continue to see more offensive opportunities for as long as Lauri Markkanen (hand) and Jordan Clarkson (finger) remain out.
Mar 28, 2023
Matches season-high seven blocks
Kessler finished Monday's 117-103 loss to Phoenix with 18 points (8-10 FG, 2-5 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal over 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler put on a show in the loss, matching his season high with seven blocks. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact he has blocked at least five shots on 11 occasions throughout his rookie season. As his offensive game continues to develop, Kessler is looking more and more like a potential top-40 player with each passing game. Sitting at number 57 for the season in only 22.9 minutes per game, he presents as someone managers may have to reach for next season.
Mar 26, 2023
Tallies career-high point total
Kessler ended with 31 points (14-16 FG, 3-6 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 34 minutes during Saturday's 121-113 loss to Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
The Jazz were without Lauri Markkanen (hand) again for this contest, freeing up more offensive opportunities for Kessler. The latter was unusually prolific with his shot attempts, putting up 16 after averaging just 5.8 field-goal tries over his previous five contests. Kessler had good reason to keep hoisting shots Saturday, as he made 14 of the 16 attempts en route to a career-best point total. The big man is already a valuable fantasy asset due to his work as a rebounder and shot blocker, and if he uses this performance as a springboard to a bigger role on offense, his value could shoot through the roof.
Mar 21, 2023
Provides pivotal block in win
Kessler finished Monday's 128-120 win over the Kings with 10 points (4-6 FG, 2-4 FT), eight rebounds, five blocks and two assists in 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Though he didn't see any notable uptick in touches on the offensive end while Lauri Markkanen (back) joined Jordan Clarkson (finger) and Collin Sexton (hamstring) on the sideline Monday, Kessler continued to demonstrate why he's already one of the game's elite rim defenders. For the 10th time this season, the rookie recorded at least five blocks in a game, with his final rejection of the night denying a Domantas Sabonis layup attempt with 1:20 remaining in the fourth quarter that would have cut the Kings' deficit to one. Kessler secured the loose ball and triggered a parade of free throws to help the Jazz put away the Kings.
Mar 19, 2023
Swats shot to seal win
Kessler racked up 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-5 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist and three blocks over 34 minutes during Saturday's 118-117 win over Boston.
ANALYSIS
Kessler blocked his third shot of the game in the final moments, denying Grant Williams a potential game-winner. Kessler cemented his role as Utah's starting center back in January, and he's recorded 13 double-doubles since taking over the job permanently. Kessler averages 2.3 blocks per game, good enough for fifth in the league. He's averaged 2.9 swats per game over 26 games as a starter.
Mar 12, 2023
Unstoppable force
Kessler provided 17 points (8-10 FG, 1-2 FT), 16 rebounds, one assist and three blocks over 32 minutes during Saturday's 119-111 victory over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has now notched seven games with 15-plus rebound this season. He's been on a tear since the All-Star Break and continues growing more and more incorporated into Utah's offense.
Mar 10, 2023
Double-doubles in return
Kessler (illness) ended with 13 points (5-5 FG, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks across 32 minutes during Thursday's 131-124 victory over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Kessler returned from a one-game absence due to a non-COVID illness and picked up right where he left off. He's posted five double-doubles over his past seven appearances and is averaging 10.9 points, 12.9 rebounds and 4.1 blocks in 31.3 minutes during that stretch.
Mar 9, 2023
Good to go Thursday
Kessler (illness) is available for Thursday's game versus the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been upgraded from questionable to available Thursday after missing the previous game with a non-COVID illness. The rookie big man has started in his last 22 appearances, so he should rejoin the starting five against Orlando. Kessler is averaging 11.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.1 assists in 28.1 minutes over that span.
Mar 8, 2023
Questionable against Orlando
Kessler (illness) is questionable for Thursday's game versus the Magic, Ben Anderson of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is questionable to miss his second straight game due to a non-COVID illness. Kelly Olynyk started at center in his absence. If Kessler is ruled out, his next chance to suit up is Saturday's matchup with Charlotte.
Mar 7, 2023
Out Tuesday
Kessler (illness) will not play during Tuesday's matchup at Dallas, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
A non-COVID illness will force the rookie to miss his first game since Halloween. He's started 22 consecutive contests, averaging 11.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.1 assists in 28.2 minutes. His minutes will presumably be filled by Udoka Azubuike and Damian Jones.
Mar 7, 2023
Dealing with non-COVID illness
Kessler is questionable for Tuesday's game in Dallas due to a non-COVID illness, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie is in danger of missing his first game since Oct. 31. If Kessler is downgraded to out, Udoka Azubuike and Damian Jones would be candidates for increased roles, but Kelly Olynk would presumably get more run at center as well.
Mar 6, 2023
Swats five shots
Kessler supplied 17 points (8-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and five blocks in 32 minutes during Sunday's 129-119 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been one of the most productive rookies in The Association this season and has been playing at a very high level on both ends of the court, but the defensive aspect of his game has undoubtedly stood out. Aside from recording double-doubles in each of his last three appearances, he has also recorded multiple blocks in eight games in a row and is averaging 9.1 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game during that eight-game stretch.
Mar 4, 2023
Excellent at both ends Friday
Kessler finished Friday's 130-103 loss to the Thunder with 10 points (5-5 FG), 11 rebounds and four blocks in 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has been impressive on both ends of the court and remains a valuable presence for the Jazz down low, but he's also been one of the most productive rookies due to his two-way value. The rookie out of Auburn has recorded multiple blocks in seven games in a row, a span in which he's also grabbed double-digit rebounds six times while averaging 8.0 points per game.
Feb 26, 2023
Game-high 12 boards, five blocks
Kessler finished with nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, two assists, five blocks and one steal across 27 minutes during Saturday's 118-102 win over the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was nearly invisible in the first half, scoring four points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor while adding just two rebounds. He came out strong after the break, however, posting seven boards in the third quarter and four blocks in the final period to help Utah win its second straight game at home. The big man led the contest in both rebounds (12) and blocked shots (five), though he did fail to score in double figures for the second game in a row. Kessler is now averaging 14.6 rebounds and five blocks per game over his last three outings.
Feb 24, 2023
Collects game-high 18 boards
Kessler closed with seven points (3-4 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 0-2 FT), 18 rebounds, one assist and seven blocks across 37 minutes during Thursday's 120-119 overtime win over the Thunder.
ANALYSIS
Kessler got off only four shots in the contest, making three of them for seven points. The big man was an absolute force on the glass, however, racking up a game-high 18 rebounds, 12 of which came in the second half to help Utah pull out the win. Kessler also blocked a shot from Isaiah Joe with less than a second left in the fourth quarter to push the game into overtime. He's now grabbed 10 or more rebounds in three of his last four games, though he's also failed to score in double figures three times over that stretch.
Feb 15, 2023
Posts double-double despite defeat
Kessler notched 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-3 FT), 14 rebounds and three blocks over 33 minutes during Wednesday's 117-111 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
With Lauri Markkanen (knee) out and Collin Sexton (hamstring) leaving early, Kessler's performance could be viewed as a disappointment. But he still produced more points, rebounds and blocks than his season averages. The rookie center has been an excellent option for blocks and rebounds this season, but averaging under 10 points per game limits his value. Kessler has put up 20 points in just three games this season.
Feb 11, 2023
Scores career-high 23 points
Kessler recorded 23 points (10-12 FG, 3-7 FT), nine rebounds and one assist in 32 minutes during Friday's 122-116 victory over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's 23 points marks a new career-high and it's the third time this season he's reached 20 or more points. His minutes have been way up lately, and that is unlikely to change with Jarred Vanderbilt traded to the Lakers. Kessler could have a massive finish to his fantasy campaign as an elite source of blocks, rebounds and field-goal percentage.
Feb 7, 2023
Delivers rebounds, blocks in loss
Kessler finished with 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-1 FT), nine rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal across 27 minutes in Monday's 124-111 loss to the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
After logging his fewest minutes (18) since entering the starting five in Utah's previous game Friday against the Hawks, Kessler returned to a more typical level of playing time Monday and delivered a bounce-back effort. The rookie center typically won't be anything more than a neutral contributor in the points category, but his ability to block shots at a prolific rate, shoot efficiently from the field and haul in rebounds at a steady clip makes him a standout performer in three categories.
Feb 2, 2023
Blocks seven shots in win
Kessler supplied 17 points (8-10 FG, 1-3 FT), 14 rebounds, one assist, seven blocks and one steal over 30 minutes during Wednesday's 131-128 win over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was an absolute force on defense right from tip off, racking up a whopping six blocks in the first quarter alone before entering the break with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. He grabbed another seven boards in the second half, five of which came in the fourth quarter to help the Jazz seal up the win at home and give the big man his 11th double-double of the 2023-23 campaign. Kessler missed only two shots on the night and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds, while his seven blocks also marked both a game and season high.
Jan 29, 2023
Grabs 10th double-double
Kessler totaled 14 points (6-7 FG, 2-4 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists and five blocks in 25 minutes during Saturday's 108-100 win over the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was a force for Utah in the first half, posting seven boards and four blocks to go along with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. He only attempted one more shot in the second half but did grab another four rebounds to notch his 10th double-double of the season. The center led the contest in blocks (five) and rebounds (11) and shot above 75 percent for the third straight game. It was also his third time this month with at least five blocks.
Jan 27, 2023
Expected to remain starter
Coach Will Hardy disclosed that Kessler will likely remain in the starting five even once Kelly Olynyk (ankle) is available, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
This is great news for fantasy managers that have taken a chance on Kessler, hoping he would force himself into a starting role at some point in the year. The rookie has started the past eight games, averaging 11.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.4 assists while shooting 67.2 percent from the field. His poor free-throw shooting -- 53.8 percent on the season -- caps his upside, but Kessler is practically a must-roster in all standard fantasy leagues at this point due to his blocks and rebounds potential.
Jan 24, 2023
Sniffs double-double
Kessler contributed 13 points (5-6 FG, 3-4 FT) and nine rebounds in 22 minutes during Monday's 120-102 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was efficient from the floor and active on the glass, and he ended just one rebound away from recording what would've been his fourth double-double over his last five outings. The rookie has started in each of Utah's last seven games and has dazzled, averaging 11.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks across 27.9 minutes per game.
Jan 16, 2023
Monster night on boards
Kessler supplied 20 points (9-13 FG, 2-4 FT), 21 rebounds, four assists and two blocks in 31 minutes during Monday's 126-125 win over the Timberwolves.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's 21 rebounds set a new career high, and his 20 points matched a career high as well. The rookie center has been on a tear this month and with Kelly Olynyk (ankle) still out, he has really stepped up with the increase in minutes. Even when Olynyk is healthy though, Kessler's opportunity is significant enough that he shouldn't be on any waiver wires at this point.
Jan 15, 2023
Comes through with double-double
Kessler finished with 15 points (7-7 FG, 1-1 FT), 12 rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 32 minutes in Saturday's 118-117 loss to the 76ers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler took a step back in the blocks column after swatting 14 shots across his previous three games, but he still made an impact in the category while coming away with a double-double on flawless shooting from the field and free-throw line. While Kelly Olynyk (ankle) is out of the lineup, Kessler should be locked into a starting role and warrants a roster spot in just about every fantasy format.
Jan 14, 2023
Blocks career-high seven shots
Kessler contributed 13 points (5-6 FG, 3-6 FT), nine rebounds, seven blocks and two steals across 27 minutes during Friday's 112-108 win over the Magic.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was a man on a mission Friday, flirting with a double-double while adding nine defensive counters, including a career-high seven blocks. A recent injury to Kelly Olynyk (ankle) has opened the door for Kessler to step into the starting lineup. Even without the injury to Olynyk, Kessler was already pegged as a must-roster player and so now, there is surely no way he is available in any leagues.
Jan 10, 2023
Gets starting nod
Kessler is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's matchup versus the Cavaliers, Andy reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will replace Kelly Olynyk (ankle) in the starting five Tuesday. The rookie big man is averaging 9.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 25.0 minutes across his previous six starts.
Jan 9, 2023
Rejections-a-plenty Sunday
Kessler posted 10 points (5-7 FG), 11 rebounds, one assist and six blocks over 23 minutes during Sunday's 123-118 loss to the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was a force to be reckoned with in the loss, swatting a career-high six shots to go with 11 boards. With Kelly Olynyk re-injuring his ankle late in the piece, Kessler could be in line for an uptick in playing time. The Jazz have already verbalized the fact that they expect Olynyk to miss time, music to the ears of anyone rostering Kessler. Monitor the injury report ahead of Tuesday's game against the Cavaliers but if the stars align, Kessler could be about to stamp his authority on things.
Jan 1, 2023
12 boards, three blocks in loss
Kessler closed Saturday's 126-123 loss to Miami with five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, three blocks and one steal in 30 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler logged at least 30 minutes for just the second time in his career, soaking up some additional playing time with Jared Vanderbilt in early foul trouble. There is certainly a case to be made that Kessler is already a better option than Vanderbilt. He has put up top-60 value over the past month despite playing just 23 minutes per night. Obviously, his offerings are limited to just rebounds, blocks and field goal percentage, meaning he won't be a good fit for everyone. With that said, his floor is safe enough that he shouldn't be on any waiver wires.
Dec 28, 2022
Moves to bench
Kessler isn't in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Warriors, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kelly Olynyk will reclaim his spot in the starting lineup from Kessler on Wednesday. The rookie big man is averaging 10.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 26.3 minutes across his last four appearances.
Dec 20, 2022
Two rejections in spot start
Kessler posted 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-4 FT), six rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 25 minutes during Monday's 122-99 loss to Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
With Kelly Olynyk (ankle) in street clothes, Kessler got the start at center and put together a well-rounded line in the box score. The 22nd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft has made three starts in nine December contests while seeing his role grow in the Utah frontcourt, averaging 10.1 points, 8.8 boards and 2.4 blocks in 22.1 minutes a game on the month while shooting an absurd 81.3 percent from the floor.
Dec 19, 2022
Draws spot start Monday
Kessler will start Monday's contest against the Cavaliers, Spencer Davies of BasketballNews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Kelly Olynyk (ankle) is out, paving the way for Kessler to draw his third career start. In his previous two starts, the rookie center has averaged 8.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 22.5 minutes per game. Kessler figures to see a similar role Monday, though he faces a tough matchup against Cleveland's formidable frontcourt.
Dec 16, 2022
Outplays Vanderbilt on Thursday
Kessler finished with 11 points (4-4 FG, 3-4 FT), eight rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes in Thursday's 132-129 overtime win over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Though he came off the bench for the third game in a row with Jarred Vanderbilt having reclaimed a starting gig in the frontcourt, Kessler has remained highly productive. The rookie center has swatted exactly three shots in each of those three contests, and he's also averaging 10.7 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field over that stretch. Kessler notably saw seven more minutes than Vanderbilt on Thursday, so the move to the bench shouldn't be taken as evidence that Kessler will be moving into a smaller role.
Dec 14, 2022
Swallows 16 boards Tuesday
Kessler supplied 11 points (5-10 FG, 1-2 FT), 16 rebounds and three blocks across 23 minutes during Tuesday's 121-100 victory over the Pelicans.
ANALYSIS
Kessler did all of his damage in 23 minutes Tuesday, flashing his tremendous per-minute upside once again. The 16 rebounds marked a career-high for the rookie, while he has now blocked at least three shots in four of his past five games. Despite playing just 22 minutes per night over the past two weeks, he has been able to put up top-35 production. His path to minutes is not as clear as we might hope but even in a limited role, he is very close to being a must-roster player.
Dec 10, 2022
Returns to bench
Kessler isn't in the starting five for Saturday's game against the Nuggets, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Jarred Vanderbilt will replace Kessler in the starting lineup Saturday. Kessler will move back to the bench after starting in the previous two games.
Dec 8, 2022
Double-double in first career start
Kessler amassed 10 points (5-6 FG), 12 rebounds, one assist and five blocks across 24 minutes during Wednesday's 124-123 win over the Warriors.
ANALYSIS
A product of the Rudy Gobert trade, Kessler found himself in a better spot with a team in rebuild mode, and it was only a matter of time before the highly-touted first-round pick would find his way into the starting five. It took a couple of injuries on the roster to get there, but he logged his first career start in the narrow win and posted his best rebound total of the season. Wednesday marked only the fourth time Kessler has posted double-digit scoring, but the rookie should continue to be a solid contributor in the paint as the first man on the floor after Kelly Olynyk. The two shared the court in Wednesday's win, a move made to create a height advantage inside against the Warriors.
Dec 7, 2022
Making first career start
Kessler is in the starting five Wednesday versus Golden State, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler is making his first career start two games removed from his best performance of the year. The rookie has averaged 5.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 23 appearances off the bench.
Dec 3, 2022
Career-best performance in win
Kessler ended Friday's 139-119 victory over the Pacers with 20 points (7-7 FG, 6-8 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and two blocks in 25 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler enjoyed his best game as a pro Friday, establishing his high mark in scoring with 20 points while making all seven of his field-goal attempts. The talented rookie also grabbed a career-high 11 boards to record his first NBA double-double. While Kessler can't usually be counted on as a scorer, he's been quite reliable as a shot blocker of late, posting multiple swats in four of his past six contests.
Dec 1, 2022
Another four blocks Wednesday
Kessler finished Wednesday's 125-112 win over the Clippers with five points (2-3 FG, 1-3 FT), four rebounds and four blocks in 22 minutes.
ANALYSIS
Kessler did what he does best in the win, swatting a game-high four shots off the bench. Despite the low minutes, he is proving to be one of the best shot blockers in the league. He is currently averaging 1.6 blocks per game in only 15.4 minutes. As long as the Jazz are contending, his role is unlikely to change too much, leaving him as an elite streaming option across all competitive leagues.
Nov 24, 2022
Swats five shots in loss
Kessler chipped in five points (2-2 FG, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds and five blocks over 21 minutes during Wednesday's 125-116 loss to the Pistons.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has yet to figure out how to become a consistent scorer, but the rookie has shown on several occasions his potential as a shot blocker. His five swats Friday were the most he has recorded in a single game thus far in his brief career, exceeding the four blocks he posted in his second NBA contest Oct. 21. Kessler is averaging 1.5 blocks across 15.2 minutes per game, tops among all NBA rookies.
Nov 1, 2022
Not on injury report
Kessler (illness) is not on the injury report for Wednesday's game against the Mavericks.
ANALYSIS
Kessler sat out the past three games due to an illness. In his five appearances, he's averaged 5.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 assists in 16.6 minutes.
Nov 1, 2022
Joining team on road trip
Kessler (illness) will join the Jazz on the team's upcoming three-game road trip, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler took part in shootaround Monday before being ruled out of the evening's contest. It looks like he's trending toward a return at some point on the road trip, though it's unclear yet if he will be ready for the first road game Wednesday versus the Mavericks. More information on that front should surface when the team releases its injury report.
Oct 31, 2022
Ruled out Monday
Kessler (illness) will not take the court against the Grizzlies on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Kessler will miss his third consecutive game due to a non-COVID illness despite taking part in shootaround Monday morning. His absence could spell more minutes for Kelly Olynyk and Jarred Vanderbilt, while Udoka Azubuike is a candidate to break into the Utah rotation.
Oct 31, 2022
Participates in shootaround
Kessler (illness) participated in Utah's shootaround Monday, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has missed the last two games due to an illness and is questionable for Monday's matchup against Memphis, but his participation in the team's shootaround is encouraging. However, it's not yet clear whether he'll ultimately be able to suit up for Monday's game.
Oct 30, 2022
Questionable Monday
Kessler (illness) is questionable for Monday's game against the Grizzlies, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler has missed Utah's last two games due to an illness, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available Monday. If he's sidelined again, Udoka Azubuike and Jarred Vanderbilt should see increased playing time.
Oct 29, 2022
Out again Saturday
Kessler (illness) is out Saturday against the Grizzlies.
ANALYSIS
Kessler, along with Mike Conley (rest), Simone Fontecchio (COVID-19 protocols) and Rudy Gay (COVID-19 protocols) are sidelined. Most players' minutes were muted during Friday's blowout loss to the Nuggets -- Jarred Vanderbilt led the team with 28 -- but the absences still mean more time could be in store for Malik Beasley, Talen Horton-Tucker, Ochai Ajbaji, Leandro Bolmaro and Udoka Azubuike, among others.
Oct 28, 2022
Ruled out Friday
Kessler (illness) will not play Friday against the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was questionable coming into the matchup after battling an illness for most of the week. With Simone Fontecchio (COVID-19) and Rudy Gay (COVID-19) already ruled out, Udoka Azubuike will likely step into some backup center minutes.
Oct 27, 2022
Questionable at Denver
Kessler (illness) is questionable for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler played 11 minutes during Wednesday's win over Houston but now feels under the weather. If he's unavailable for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Jarred Vanderbilt will likely see increased playing time. Talen Horton-Tucker could see more action as well with Rudy Gay (COVID-19 protocols) sidelined.
Oct 27, 2022
Doesn't practice Thursday
Kessler didn't participate in Thursday's practice session due to an illness, Sarah Todd of The Deseret News reports.
ANALYSIS
Kessler played 11 minutes during Wednesday's win over Houston but is feeling under the weather a day later. If he's unavailable for Friday's game against the Nuggets, Jarred Vanderbilt will likely see increased playing time.
Oct 25, 2022
Plagued by fouls
Kessler had zero points (0-1 FG), one rebound, one block and one steal in eight minutes during Monday's 114-108 loss to the Rockets. He also had two turnovers.
ANALYSIS
Kessler picked up four fouls within his first six minutes of action. Monday marked the first dud for the 21-year-old rookie. Kessler will continue experiencing growing pains, but he's flashed efficient scoring, shot blocking and rebounding prowess through his first four career games.
Oct 20, 2022
Nice performance off bench
Kessler finished with 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-6 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal over 24 minutes during Wednesday's 123-102 victory over the Nuggets.
ANALYSIS
Kessler's rookie debut went well. He saw 24 minutes off the bench -- more than starter Kelly Olynyk (15) -- and finished with a double-double on 100 percent shooting. His playing time, along with Olynyk's, may vary based on matchup. Still, fantasy managers who drafted Kessler certainly aren't feeling buyer's remorse.
Oct 12, 2022
Blocks four shots Tuesday
Kessler has 12 points (5-6 FG, 2-4 FT), seven rebounds, four blocks and one assist in 25 minutes during Tuesday's loss to the Spurs.
ANALYSIS
Kessler was fantastic in the loss, flashing his tremendous defensive upside. While he is slated to come off the bench behind Kelly Olynyk, there is certainly a chance his role expands as the season progresses. At this stage, he is nothing more than a late-round flier; however, his game translates very well when it comes to fantasy production, making him a name to monitor moving forward.
Oct 3, 2022
Scores 11 points off bench
Kessler recorded 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-3 FT) and four rebounds across 14 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 114-82 loss against the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
It was a solid pro debut for Kessler, who turned heads with his play during training camp and might be in the mix for real minutes as the season progresses. The rookie out of Auburn is slated to open the season as the team's backup center behind Kelly Olynyk, but he should find a steady role in the rotation in a rebuilding Utah squad.
Oct 3, 2022
Scores 11 points off bench
Kessler recorded 11 points (5-7 FG, 1-3 FT) and four rebounds across 14 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 114-82 loss against the Raptors.
