James decided to stick with the school that helped him recover from Achilles surgery despite a change at head coach, and he'll now have an opportunity to start carving out a role in advance of a late-October team scrimmage.

Although he has not fully returned to basketball activities, James is definitely making progress and even dunked for the first time in seven months. The 6-foot-6 forward was a four-star recruit and top-100 player out of high school, and will continue rehabbing in the hopes that he will be healthy at the start of the 2022-23 season.

James is the third Cardinals player to confirm he will return to the team for next season despite the school moving on from head coach Chris Mack this offseason and subsequently hiring New York Knicks assistant Kenny Payne as the new head man. James was a top-100 recruit coming out of high school, so he should have a good chance to make an impact once his Achilles is back in form.
