Expected to miss 8-12 weeks
Coach Aaron Glenn revealed Friday that Allen (knee) is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Cimini, it hasn't yet been determined if Allen -- who was placed on IR on Thursday -- will undergo surgery on his knee or recover via rehab, but either way, the timetable estimate will remain in the 8-12 week range. In Allen's absence, Isaiah Davis, as well as newcomer Khalil Herbert and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) -- when healthy -- are slated to work behind top back Breece Hall.

Bound for IR
The Jets intend to place Allen (knee) on injured reserve Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen is recovering from an MCL sprain sustained in Monday's 27-21 loss to the Dolphins, and while a formal timeline for his return won't be established until a decision is made whether he'll require surgery, the 21-year-old will be sidelined for at least the Jets' next four games. New York could add another running back to its roster in a corresponding move for when Allen is officially placed on IR, but as it stands, Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) are the backfield options behind starter Breece Hall.
Sep 30, 2025
Has MCL sprain, move to IR likely
Allen sustained an MCL sprain during Monday's 27-21 loss at Miami and likely will be placed on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to injuring his knee on a kick return in the second quarter, Allen was splitting the RB reps with Breece Hall, with the former turning his four carries into 26 yards. If Allen requires a stint on IR, he'll be required to miss at least four games. In the meantime, Hall likely will take on a workhorse role out of the Jets backfield, while Isaiah Davis would be the top candidate to handle any reps that Hall does not.
Sep 29, 2025
Quickly ruled out
Allen will not return to Monday's game against the Dolphins, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinelreports.
ANALYSIS
Allen was injured on a kickoff return late in the second quarter when a defender was pushed down in front of him and fell into his knee. He was able to walk off the field and to the locker room under his own power, but Allen was quickly ruled out. Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis will be counted on to handle the majority of work out of the backfield for the rest of the game.
Sep 29, 2025
Heads to locker room
Allen walked to the locker room with an apparent knee injury in Monday's game against the Dolphins, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen was tackled low on a kickoff return in the second quarter and limped off the field. He was able to walk to the locker room under his own power, though his status for at least the rest of the game is in question.
Sep 21, 2025
Season-high volume against Bucs
Allen carried the ball six times for 30 yards and caught both his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
While he still took a back seat to Breece Hall in the Jets' backfield, Allen came closer to an even split of the workload as Hall turned 13 touches into 52 scrimmage yards. The second-year RB is still only on the edge of the fantasy radar in most formats, but he's trending in the right direction headed into a Week 4 clash with the Dolphins.
Sep 14, 2025
Two touches in Week 2
Allen rushed twice for 11 yards and didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Allen had just two touches to Breece Hall's 12, suggesting the former remains a distant second on the Jets' depth chart. The entire offense struggled in this one and actually picked up the pace down the stretch after Justin Fields (concussion) exited in the fourth quarter. Allen's outlook is unlikely to change if Fields misses additional action, in which case Tyrod Taylor would start under center.
Sep 7, 2025
Struggles outside of TD run
Allen rushed six times for nine yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-32 loss to the Steelers. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.
ANALYSIS
Allen was stopped short on a two-point conversion attempt in the first quarter but bounced back with an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. His five other carries produced just one yard, while Breece Hall turned 21 touches into 145 yards. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Allen could work as the more powerful complement to the shifty Hall in a run-heavy Jets offense, but Allen won't get many opportunities if he continues to get stuffed on the majority of his opportunities. Allen will look to improve his efficiency in Week 2 against the Bills.
Aug 16, 2025
Another fruitful performance
Allen tallied seven carries for 34 yards during Saturday's 31-12 preseason defeat to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Allen split the backfield work with No. 1 RB Breece Hall during the Jets' first two drives, and the former ended up outgaining his position mate by eight yards on the same number of rushes. Through two exhibitions, Allen has 15 carries for 67 yards, which amounts to 4.5 YPC (or nearly 1.0 yard more than the 3.6 he averaged as a rookie last season). The sample size is small, but it appears as if Allen will be in the mix for touches early and often alongside Hall in 2025.
Aug 10, 2025
Solid workload in preseason win
Allen rushed eight times for 33 yards and failed to bring in his only target during the Jets' 30-10 preseason win over the Packers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The second-year back saw Breece Hall take the first two carries, but Allen went on to rip off his game-long 14-yard rush on his first touch later in New York's first possession. Allen went on to log four more rush attempts on the Jets' second drive, and although he didn't record any other noteworthy gains, the timing of Allen's usage within the game underscores the fact he's projected for a role that will net more than the 111 total touches he recorded across 17 regular-season games during his rookie 2024 campaign. Allen is likely to see another solid workload during next Saturday night's second preseason game against the Giants.
Aug 2, 2025
Full-go at practice Saturday
Allen (knee) participated in the Jets' annual Green & White practice Saturday, Eric Allen and Susanna Weir of the team's official site report.
ANALYSIS
Allen missed a couple practices earlier this week due to knee soreness, but he's now participated each of the past two days. Saturday's session is particularly noteworthy, as the report describes it as a "'pseudo-scrimmage' with plenty of live game situations." Allen took on "a significant workload" during the practice, so the knee issue appears to be behind him.
Aug 1, 2025
Back at practice Friday
Allen (knee) returned to practice Friday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen missed the previous three days due to knee soreness. The second-year back appears to have a big leg up on the competition for the Jets' No. 2 running back gig and could even take more of a share of the work from Breece Hall under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, who came over from the Lions where they featured both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs. Allen has been mentioned as the possible Montgomery side of that duo with the Jets.
Jul 31, 2025
Misses another practice
Allen (knee) remained sidelined during practice Thursday, Susanna Weir and Eric Allen of the Jets' official site report.
ANALYSIS
Allen has now missed two straight practice with knee soreness. However, prior to that Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic relays that the 2024 fourth-rounder had been having a strong training camp, noting that Allen -- who is officially listed at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds -- "looks bigger, faster and stronger" than he did as a rookie, when he logged 92 carries in 17 regular-season games while working behind lead back Breece Hall (209 carries).
Jul 29, 2025
Nursing knee soreness
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Allen (knee) did not practice Tuesday due to soreness, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen will be re-evaluated for practice Thursday, as New York has an off day Wednesday. There are no indications that the second-year running back is dealing with anything more than minor soreness. Allen has reportedly looked explosive throughout the early stages of training camp and is pushing for an increased role alongside Hall in Year 2.
Jul 23, 2025
Larger role expected in 2025
Allen looked explosive on the first day of training camp Wednesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports, and Rosenblatt expects Allen to play a larger role in the running back's second NFL season.
ANALYSIS
Allen came out of the gate hot in his rookie season but averaged only 3.1 yards per carry from Week 5 onward. The 2024 fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin was the youngest player in the NFL at the start of last season and won't turn 22 years old until Jan. 20, so some growing pains were to be expected. If he can successfully run with power behind his 6-foot-1, 235-pound frame, Allen could effectively complement shifty lead back Breece Hall, though 2024 fifth-round draft pick Isaiah Davis is also trying to carve out a role in a Jets backfield that's unchanged from 2024 in terms of personnel.
Jan 6, 2025
Fades after strong start to season
Allen rushed four times for 15 yards while catching two of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's 32-20 win over the Dolphins. He finishes his rookie season with 92 carries for 334 yards and two touchdowns, as well as 19 catches for 148 yards and one touchdown on 27 targets.
ANALYSIS
Allen won the top backup job behind Breece Hall in training camp and showed promise early, with two of the fourth-round draft pick's three total touchdowns coming in Week 2 against the Titans. The rookie wore down and averaged just 3.1 yards per carry from Week 5 onward, and by the end of the year, 2024 fifth-round draft pick Isaiah Davis was splitting backup duties with Allen. The crowded nature of the Jets backfield will make it difficult for Allen to shine in 2025, though the 235-pound running back's big frame makes him a strong candidate for goal-line work.
Dec 30, 2024
Six carries in Week 17
Allen rushed six times for 26 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Allen was stuffed on a fourth-and-1 just outside the red zone to end the Jets' opening drive, setting the tone for what turned into another disappointing afternoon for New York. He finished third on the team in rushing behind Breece Hall (10 carries for 45 yards) and Isaiah Davis (three carries for 35 yards). All three running backs will probably see action in Week 18 against the Dolphins, with Hall likely to maintain the lead role over Allen and Davis.
Dec 23, 2024
Three touches in loss to Rams
Allen (back) rushed twice for five yards and caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Allen matched Isaiah Davis' total of three touches while Breece Hall led the Jets backfield with 19 touches. While Allen will likely be healthy enough to suit up in Week 17 against the Bills, his fantasy upside is minimal as he splits backup duties.
Dec 22, 2024
Available versus Rams
Allen (back) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Allen, who was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday, practiced fully Friday, but was still deemed questionable for Sunday's contest. With his availability versus Los Angeles confirmed, Allen and Isaiah Davis are in line to work behind Breece Hall, a context that limits the 2024 fourth-rounder's Week 16 fantasy lineup upside.
Dec 22, 2024
In line to play
Allen (back) remains listed as questionable but is considered good to go for Sunday's game against the Rams, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen should be formally cleared to play when the Jets release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Though he was limited in the Jets' first two Week 16 practices, Allen assuaged most of the concerns about his health by turning in a full session Friday. The rookie fourth-round pick and Isaiah Davis are slated to fill backup roles Sunday behind Breece Hall in the New York backfield.
Dec 20, 2024
Questionable for Week 16
Allen (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest versus the Rams, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen and fellow reserve RB Isaiah Davis (back) followed an LP/LP/FP practice regimen this week, but only the former has a designation for Week 16. Breece Hall remains the Jets' lead runner heading into the home stretch of the season, but Allen may now cede direct backup duties to Davis if he's among the team's inactives ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 19, 2024
Still limited at practice
Allen (back) was limited at practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to fellow RB Isaiah Davis (back), as both were also limited at practice Wednesday. Allen will presumably need to practice fully Friday in order to approach Sunday's game against the Rams without an injury designation, but with Breece Hall not on the Jets' Week 16 injury report, Allen doesn't have a clear path to volume if he's available this weekend.
Dec 18, 2024
Opens week with limited practice
Allen (back) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a good sign that Allen practiced in any capacity after failing to finish this past Sunday's 32-25 win over the Jaguars. Fellow backup running back Isaiah Davis (back) was also limited Wednesday, while Breece Hall practiced without limitations. Now that Hall's over the knee injury that cost him Week 14 and likely limited his workload Week 15, Allen and Davis could see limited touches even if they play Sunday against the Rams.
Dec 15, 2024
Exits Sunday's game
Allen exited Sunday's game against the Jaguars after sustaining a back injury.
ANALYSIS
Before his departure, Allen carried twice for five yards. While he is sidelined, Breece Hall and Isaiah Davis are available to handle the Jets' backfield duties versus Jacksonville.
Dec 8, 2024
Splits with Allen in Hall's absence
Allen rushed 11 times for 43 yards while catching four of five targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 32-26 overtime loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Allen split evenly with Isaiah Davis in the absence of lead back Breece Hall (knee), as both rookie running backs had 16 combined carries and targets. The biggest play between the two was a 17-yard touchdown run by Davis in the second quarter, while Allen has still scored only once since his two-touchdown performance back in Week 2. If Hall remains unavailable in Week 15, both Allen and Davis would have substantial fantasy value against the vulnerable Jacksonville defense.
Dec 8, 2024
Set to help fill in for Hall
Allen is expected to take on an expanded role out of the Jets backfield Sunday against the Dolphins with Breece Hall (knee) ruled out for the contest, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets aren't planning on shutting Hall down for the season, but with the star tailback set to miss his first game of 2024 on Sunday, Allen could be in store for the biggest snap and touch counts of his young career. Allen hasn't played more than 36 percent of snaps or handled more than 14 touches in any of the Jets' first 12 games, and though he reeled off some impressive runs early on in the season, he's averaging just 2.8 yards per carry over his last eight outings. Despite the poor results of late, the 6-foot-1, 235-pound Allen still looks best suited to serve as the Jets' top option on early downs, though he may cede pass-catching duties to fellow rookie Isaiah Davis, who recorded three receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown in the Week 13 loss to the Seahawks. The Jets may also look to give a few snaps to the speedy Kene Nwangwu, who returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown last week.
Dec 2, 2024
Seven touches against Seahawks
Allen rushed five times for 11 yards and caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Breece Hall got only 12 touches while playing through a knee injury, but third-stringer Isaiah Davis saw a bigger uptick in usage than Allen, as Davis scored his first NFL touchdown on one of his career-high four touches. With Hall still firmly entrenched atop the depth chart and Davis pushing for a larger role, Allen continues to have minimal short-term fantasy value ahead of a Week 14 trip to Miami.
Nov 18, 2024
Two carries in Week 11 loss
Allen rushed twice for six yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Allen worked as a distant No. 2 behind Breece Hall, who turned 16 carries and seven targets into 121 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. As long as Hall's healthy, Allen's little more than an insurance policy to be stashed on fantasy benches.
Nov 12, 2024
Seven carries in blowout loss
Allen rushed seven times for 27 yards and caught his only target for seven yards in Sunday's 31-6 loss to Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Allen has 60 rushing attempts and 16 targets through 10 NFL games, so his usage Sunday was right in line with the rookie's career averages. After averaging 4.8 yards per carry on 27 attempts through Week 4, Allen has regressed to 2.8 YPC on 33 carries over the last six games as he continues to work in a change-of-pace role behind Breece Hall.
Nov 1, 2024
Back to reduced role Thursday
Allen rushed four times for nine yards and failed to bring in his only target in the Jets' 21-13 win over the Texans on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Allen had flashed with 12 carries and a rushing touchdown in Week 8 against the Patriots, but four days later, the rookie was back under 10 rushing yards and without a catch for the third time in the last four games. Allen's usage is clearly volatile from week to week despite the success he's enjoyed at times, leaving him as an unreliable option for a Week 10 road matchup against the Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Oct 27, 2024
TD among 12 carries in Week 8
Allen rushed 12 times for 32 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Patriots. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.
ANALYSIS
Allen's two-yard rushing touchdown gave the Jets a 22-17 lead with 2:57 remaining, but the Jets failed on their subsequent two-point conversion attempt and the Patriots responded with a game-winning touchdown drive. Breece Hall (16 carries for 80 yards) was far more efficient on the ground, so Allen will likely need to make the most of his opportunities near the goal line to maintain any fantasy relevance. Allen's heavier workload compared to recent weeks may have been an effort to keep Hall fresh since the Jets will be back in action Thursday on a short week against the Texans.
Oct 21, 2024
Just three touches again
Allen rushed twice for four yards and caught his only target for two yards in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Allen was pushing for a timeshare with Breece Hall early in the season, but the rookie has faded into clear backup territory in the last two games, with six touches compared to Hall's 41 over that span. The shiftier Hall is better with the ball in space as a pass catcher out of the backfield, and the Jets' struggling offensive line hasn't opened up many holes for either running back on the ground. Allen will be little more than a bench stash in fantasy unless his usage trends back up.
Oct 15, 2024
Has crucial TD called back
Allen rushed three times for eight yards and didn't catch either of his two targets in Monday's 23-20 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
After shaking up their coaching staff, the Jets recommitted to Breece Hall as their clear No. 1 running back, as Hall finished with 169 scrimmage yards on 23 touches. Allen notably got a look by the goal line and converted it for a go-ahead four-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, only to have the touchdown called back on a ticky-tack holding call away from the play. The rookie power back will look to make the most of his limited opportunities behind Hall in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Oct 6, 2024
Stymied by Vikings
Allen rushed the ball five times for 13 yards in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Vikings. He added one reception on two targets for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Allen was limited by both volume and inefficiency in the Week 5 loss, as he averaged only 2.6 yards per carry and had a long of just seven. The Jets also attempted only 14 rushes as opposed to 54 passes as they faced a negative game script for the entire contest. That led to a poor result, and Allen was also out-touched 12-6 by Breece Hall heading into a Week 6 bye.
Sep 29, 2024
Outplaying Hall as rusher
Allen rushed eight times for 34 yards and caught his only target for 12 yards in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Allen was much more efficient than Breece Hall, who turned 10 carries and five targets into only 18 scrimmage yards. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound rookie is averaging 4.8 yards per carry compared to 3.1 for Hall, and per Connor Hughes of SportsNet New York, coach Robert Saleh said after the game that the team will look into giving Allen more goal-line carries moving forward after Hall was denied on back-to-back rush attempts from the 1-yard line in the first half. If Hall continues to struggle in Week 5 against the VIkings in London, Allen could be called upon to play a larger role.
Sep 20, 2024
Leading rusher in Thursday's win
Allen rushed 11 times for 55 yards and caught all three of his targets for 13 yards in Thursday's 24-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Allen finished with one more rushing yard than Breece Hall on five fewer carries, though Hall scored a one-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter and had 16 more receiving yards on two more targets than Allen. Hall's still the top running back for the Jets, but Allen has become a prominent part of the game plan heading into a Week 4 home game against the Broncos, as the rookie fourth-round pick has 141 scrimmage yards and two TDs through three games while churning out 5.1 yards per carry.
Sep 15, 2024
Two TDs in second NFL game
Allen rushed seven times for 33 yards and a touchdown while catching two of four targets for 23 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Allen had just nine touches compared to Breece Hall's 21, but the youngest skill position player in the NFL made the most of his limited opportunities, producing his first two touchdowns in his second game. The rookie fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin got the Jets on the board with a 12-yard touchdown catch late in the first half, then scored the game-winning touchdown on a 20-yard run with 4:31 left in the fourth quarter, breaking a 17-17 tie. Allen has the frame to run inside effectively at 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, and he has also shown the hands and elusiveness necessary to contribute as a pass catcher. Hall's in no danger of losing his starting role after racking up 114 yards and a touchdown Sunday, but Allen has shown he can excel in a change-of-pace role and should earn some touches on a short week Thursday against the Patriots.
Sep 9, 2024
Gets first two NFL touches
Allen rushed once for eight yards and caught his only target for nine yards in Monday's 32-19 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
With a nine-yard catch late in the fourth quarter, Allen became the youngest player to register a touch on offense in the Super Bowl era at 20 years and 233 days. The rookie fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin added an eight-yard run on the following play, but he watched Breece Hall amass 21 touches before that point, so Allen's a distant second on the Jets' running back depth chart heading into Week 2 against the Titans.
Aug 18, 2024
Targeted four times
Allen rushed the ball eight times for 27 yards in Saturday's 15-12 preseason win over the Panthers. He added two catches on four targets for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Allen has drawn praise throughout training camp for his physical running style, and the team has also talked up his potential as a pass catcher. He didn't show much ability as a receiver during his collegiate career at Wisconsin, but he was heavily involved in that role Saturday with mixed results. Allen has seemingly all but locked in the second spot on the running back depth chart behind Breece Hall, though Isaiah Davis did get the first rushing attempt in Saturday's contest.
Aug 10, 2024
Runs well in preseason debut
Allen rushed six times for 54 yards and wasn't targeted in Saturday's 20-17 preseason win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Allen is the favorite to operate as Breece Hall's top backup in the regular season, and the rookie fourth-round pick got the start Saturday with Hall getting the day off. After a quiet first quarter, Allen came alive in the second quarter with bursts of 16 and 24 yards on the ground. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back out of Wisconsin will look to build on this encouraging debut when the Jets continue preseason play next Saturday against the Panthers.
Aug 5, 2024
Top backup on first depth chart
Allen is listed second at running back on the unofficial depth chart released by the Jets ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Allen has impressed the coaching staff throughout spring practices and the early portion of training camp, showing strong pass blocking and receiving skills for a rookie. The 2024 fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin heads into the preseason as Breece Hall's top backup, ahead of 2024 fifth-round pick Isaiah Davis and 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda. While the depth chart could still shift based on preseason results, Allen is well positioned to have a role in the Jets' offense come the regular season, though Hall's in no danger of relinquishing the starting role after compiling 1,585 scrimmage yards in 2023.
Jun 5, 2024
Look smooth catching passes
Allen has made "a ton of plays as a pass catcher" during OTAs, according to Connor Hughes of SNY.tv.
ANALYSIS
Breece Hall's absence with a lower-body injury has opened up first-team snaps for Allen and fellow rookie Isaiah Davis. It's a bit surprising to hear that Allen has made waves in the passing game, considering he's a 235-pound back who had 275 receiving yards over three seasons as the lead back at Wisconsin. Picked in the fourth round this spring, Allen is the youngest player in his draft class and will be 20 years old for the entirety of his rookie season (unless the Jets make a deep playoff run). That might seem to hint at a slow learning curve, but it sounds like both he and Davis (a fifth-round pick) have been relatively quick studies while competing with 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda for the backup RB job behind Hall.
