Coach Aaron Glenn revealed Friday that Allen (knee) is expected to miss 8-12 weeks, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Per Cimini, it hasn't yet been determined if Allen -- who was placed on IR on Thursday -- will undergo surgery on his knee or recover via rehab, but either way, the timetable estimate will remain in the 8-12 week range. In Allen's absence, Isaiah Davis, as well as newcomer Khalil Herbert and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) -- when healthy -- are slated to work behind top back Breece Hall.

The Jets intend to place Allen (knee) on injured reserve Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Allen is recovering from an MCL sprain sustained in Monday's 27-21 loss to the Dolphins, and while a formal timeline for his return won't be established until a decision is made whether he'll require surgery, the 21-year-old will be sidelined for at least the Jets' next four games. New York could add another running back to its roster in a corresponding move for when Allen is officially placed on IR, but as it stands, Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring) are the backfield options behind starter Breece Hall.

Allen sustained an MCL sprain during Monday's 27-21 loss at Miami and likely will be placed on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Allen had just two touches to Breece Hall's 12, suggesting the former remains a distant second on the Jets' depth chart. The entire offense struggled in this one and actually picked up the pace down the stretch after Justin Fields (concussion) exited in the fourth quarter. Allen's outlook is unlikely to change if Fields misses additional action, in which case Tyrod Taylor would start under center.

Allen rushed six times for nine yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-32 loss to the Steelers. He wasn't targeted in the passing game.

Allen was stopped short on a two-point conversion attempt in the first quarter but bounced back with an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. His five other carries produced just one yard, while Breece Hall turned 21 touches into 145 yards. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Allen could work as the more powerful complement to the shifty Hall in a run-heavy Jets offense, but Allen won't get many opportunities if he continues to get stuffed on the majority of his opportunities. Allen will look to improve his efficiency in Week 2 against the Bills.

Allen tallied seven carries for 34 yards during Saturday's 31-12 preseason defeat to the Giants.

Allen split the backfield work with No. 1 RB Breece Hall during the Jets' first two drives, and the former ended up outgaining his position mate by eight yards on the same number of rushes. Through two exhibitions, Allen has 15 carries for 67 yards, which amounts to 4.5 YPC (or nearly 1.0 yard more than the 3.6 he averaged as a rookie last season). The sample size is small, but it appears as if Allen will be in the mix for touches early and often alongside Hall in 2025.

Allen missed a couple practices earlier this week due to knee soreness, but he's now participated each of the past two days. Saturday's session is particularly noteworthy, as the report describes it as a "'pseudo-scrimmage' with plenty of live game situations." Allen took on "a significant workload" during the practice, so the knee issue appears to be behind him.

However, prior to that Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic relays that the 2024 fourth-rounder had been having a strong training camp, noting that Allen -- who is officially listed at 6-foot-1, 235 pounds -- "looks bigger, faster and stronger" than he did as a rookie, when he logged 92 carries in 17 regular-season games while working behind lead back Breece Hall (209 carries).

Allen will be re-evaluated for practice Thursday, as New York has an off day Wednesday. There are no indications that the second-year running back is dealing with anything more than minor soreness. Breece Hall got only 12 touches while playing through a knee injury, but third-stringer Isaiah Davis saw a bigger uptick in usage than Allen, as Davis scored his first NFL touchdown on one of his career-high four touches. With Hall still firmly entrenched atop the depth chart and Davis pushing for a larger role, Allen continues to have minimal short-term fantasy value ahead of a Week 14 trip to Miami.

Allen worked as a distant No. 2 behind Breece Hall, who turned 16 carries and seven targets into 121 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. As long as Hall's healthy, Allen's little more than an insurance policy to be stashed on fantasy benches.

Allen rushed seven times for 27 yards and caught his only target for seven yards in Sunday's 31-6 loss to Arizona.

Allen has 60 rushing attempts and 16 targets through 10 NFL games, so his usage Sunday was right in line with the rookie's career averages. After averaging 4.8 yards per carry on 27 attempts through Week 4, Allen has regressed to 2.8 YPC on 33 carries over the last six games as he continues to work in a change-of-pace role behind Breece Hall.

Allen rushed four times for nine yards and failed to bring in his only target in the Jets' 21-13 win over the Texans on Thursday night.

Allen had flashed with 12 carries and a rushing touchdown in Week 8 against the Patriots, but four days later, the rookie was back under 10 rushing yards and without a catch for the third time in the last four games. Allen's usage is clearly volatile from week to week despite the success he's enjoyed at times, leaving him as an unreliable option for a Week 10 road matchup against the Cardinals on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Allen's two-yard rushing touchdown gave the Jets a 22-17 lead with 2:57 remaining, but the Jets failed on their subsequent two-point conversion attempt and the Patriots responded with a game-winning touchdown drive. Breece Hall (16 carries for 80 yards) was far more efficient on the ground, so Allen will likely need to make the most of his opportunities near the goal line to maintain any fantasy relevance. Allen's heavier workload compared to recent weeks may have been an effort to keep Hall fresh since the Jets will be back in action Thursday on a short week against the Texans.

Allen was pushing for a timeshare with Breece Hall early in the season, but the rookie has faded into clear backup territory in the last two games, with six touches compared to Hall's 41 over that span. The shiftier Hall is better with the ball in space as a pass catcher out of the backfield, and the Jets' struggling offensive line hasn't opened up many holes for either running back on the ground. Allen will be little more than a bench stash in fantasy unless his usage trends back up.

Allen rushed three times for eight yards and didn't catch either of his two targets in Monday's 23-20 loss to the Bills.

After shaking up their coaching staff, the Jets recommitted to Breece Hall as their clear No. 1 running back, as Hall finished with 169 scrimmage yards on 23 touches. Allen notably got a look by the goal line and converted it for a go-ahead four-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, only to have the touchdown called back on a ticky-tack holding call away from the play. The rookie power back will look to make the most of his limited opportunities behind Hall in Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Allen rushed the ball five times for 13 yards in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Vikings. He added one reception on two targets for 15 yards.

Allen was limited by both volume and inefficiency in the Week 5 loss, as he averaged only 2.6 yards per carry and had a long of just seven. The Jets also attempted only 14 rushes as opposed to 54 passes as they faced a negative game script for the entire contest. That led to a poor result, and Allen was also out-touched 12-6 by Breece Hall heading into a Week 6 bye.

Allen was much more efficient than Breece Hall, who turned 10 carries and five targets into only 18 scrimmage yards. If Hall continues to struggle in Week 5 against the VIkings in London, Allen could be called upon to play a larger role.

Hall's in no danger of losing his starting role after racking up 114 yards and a touchdown Sunday, but Allen has shown he can excel in a change-of-pace role and should earn some touches on a short week Thursday against the Patriots.

Allen has seemingly all but locked in the second spot on the running back depth chart behind Breece Hall, though Isaiah Davis did get the first rushing attempt in Saturday's contest.

Allen is the favorite to operate as Breece Hall's top backup in the regular season, and the rookie fourth-round pick got the start Saturday with Hall getting the day off. After a quiet first quarter, Allen came alive in the second quarter with bursts of 16 and 24 yards on the ground. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back out of Wisconsin will look to build on this encouraging debut when the Jets continue preseason play next Saturday against the Panthers.

Allen is listed second at running back on the unofficial depth chart released by the Jets ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Commanders.
