Bryce Young Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Panthers vs 49ers game on Monday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 16, 2025
Career day in win
Young completed 31 of 45 pass attempts for 448 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 30-27 overtime win.
ANALYSIS
Young sustained an ankle injury after taking a sack in the first quarter, but he didn't miss an offensive snap in Sunday's win. The Alabama product delivered his best game as a pro, setting a new career high in passing yards en route to a 14-point comeback victory. He showed great chemistry with wideouts Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette (hip), completing 12 of 20 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns to that duo. Young has now thrown for 1,962 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions while leading the Panthers to second place in the NFC South. He could be a viable streaming option against a struggling 49ers defense in Week 12.

Returns to game Sunday
Young (ankle) returned to Sunday's game against the Falcons, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Young went to the locker room and was ruled questionable to return with a right ankle injury after taking a sack in the first quarter, per David Newton of ESPN.com. Young returned before the end of the first half, replacing backup quarterback Andy Dalton. Young was 8-for-9 passing for 82 yards and one touchdown prior to exiting the contest.

Goes to locker room Sunday
Young (undisclosed) went to the locker room during Sunday's game at Atlanta, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Young was taken down on a safety blitz in the first quarter and was slow to get up and off the field afterward. The nature of his injury wasn't immediately known, but backup QB Andy Dalton is poised to take over for as long as Young is sidelined. Young was 8-for-9 passing for 82 yards and one touchdown prior to exiting the contest.
Nov 9, 2025
Poor showing against Saints
Young completed 17 of 25 passes for 124 yards and an interception in Sunday's 17-7 loss to New Orleans. He added six rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
The third-year QB failed to produce a touchdown for the second straight game, while extending his streak of games with under 200 passing yards to seven. Young remains a desperation play in most fantasy formats given his limited ceiling, heading into a Week 11 trip to Atlanta.
Nov 2, 2025
Leans on run game at Lambeau
Young completed 11 of 20 passes for 102 yards and an interception in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Packers. He added nine rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
The third-year QB returned from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury but failed to produce at least one touchdown, either through the air or on the ground, for the first time in 2025. Instead, the Panthers' offense leaned heavily on Rico Dowdle out of the backfield, leaving Young to be little more than a game manager. Young will take an 11:6 TD:INT through eight starts into what should be a more favorable matchup in Week 10 against the Saints.
Oct 31, 2025
Cleared to play
Young (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Green Bay, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
He'll return to the starting job after missing just one game with a high-ankle sprain. Even if Young is back at full strength, he's looking at an uphill battle to post strong numbers for Week 9, playing behind an injury-riddled offensive line as a 12.5-point underdog against a top defense.
Oct 29, 2025
Decision on Week 9 starter to come
Coach Dave Canales said the Panthers will make a decision regarding Young (ankle) taking back the starting job for Sunday's game at Green Bay in the next few days, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In his return to practice Wednesday, Young was a full participant, taking all the first-team reps in the process, as Canales told Newton. Canales also called Young "day-to-day" due to the high right-ankle sprain that he suffered Week 7 at the Jets, per Newton. Andy Dalton started in place of Young this past Sunday against the Bills, but he came out of that contest with a right thumb injury that didn't allow him to practice Wednesday. Depending on how Young fares Thursday and Friday, he seems poised to miss just one game as a result of the injury.
Oct 29, 2025
Practices in full
Young (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young missed Week 8 as the result of a high right-ankle sprain sustained during Carolina's win over the Jets in Week 7, but it looks like he's already recovered enough to return to the starting lineup for Sunday's road matchup against the Panthers. Of course, that would represent an extremely quick return to action considering the severity of Young's injury, so the team could continue to monitor his reps closely at practice Thursday and Friday. Barring any setbacks, though, Young look set to relieve veteran backup Andy Dalton (thumb), who did not practice Wednesday, after just a one-game absence.
Oct 29, 2025
Throwing in return to practice
Young (ankle) was seen throwing during Wednesday's practice, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Young suffered a high right-ankle sprain during the Panthers' Week 7 win at the Jets and didn't practice last week before being deemed inactive this past Sunday against the Bills. Prior to mixing into drills on a wet field Wednesday, he also joined his teammates for a pre-practice stretch, something that he didn't do last week, per Joe Person of The Athletic. Young thus has made clear progress in his recovery, but whether or not he'll be able to supplant backup QB Andy Dalton as the Week 9 starter Sunday in Green Bay remains to be seen.
Oct 27, 2025
Hopeful to practice Wednesday
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Young (ankle) logged an encouraging running session Monday and that the team is hopeful he will practice in some capacity Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Canales also confirmed that Young remains day-to-day. If the third-year quarterback is able to get back on the field as at least a limited participant Wednesday, it will lend credence to the notion that he could retake the field Week 9 on the road against Green Bay. Andy Dalton drew the start during Carolina's blowout 40-9 loss to the Bills in Week 8, with Young having suffered a high-ankle sprain Week 7, but the veteran signal-caller was unable to get anything going under center. High ankle-sprains typically require multi-week absences to heal, but the Panthers have yet to rule Young out versus the Packers.
Oct 26, 2025
Inactive Sunday
Young (ankle) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Bills, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Young didn't return to last Sunday's win at the Jets after his right ankle was twisted while taking a sack late in the third quarter. He eventually was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and unsurprisingly wasn't able to mix into drills this week before the Panthers listed him as doubtful for Week 8 action. On Friday, the team announced Andy Dalton as its starting quarterback for Sunday's game, per Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer, and with Young officially unavailable, Hendon Hooker will serve as Carolina's backup signal-caller for at least one contest. Considering high-ankle sprains typically require multi-week absences, Young likely is in danger of sitting out next Sunday at Green Bay.
Oct 24, 2025
Officially listed as doubtful
Young (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Young didn't practice at all this week, after making an early exit from last Sunday's win over the Jets. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton is expected to start Week 8, and while it won't be surprising if he makes additional starts, the Panthers are still calling Young day-to-day with a high-ankle sprain.
Oct 23, 2025
Misses practice, still day-to-day
Young (ankle) didn't participate in Thursday's practice, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Newton, a Panthers team spokesperson said Thursday that Young remains day-to-day and has displayed some progress since suffering a right high-ankle sprain in this past Sunday's 13-6 win over the Jets. That said, Young has yet to practice this week and doesn't seem to be trending toward playing in this Sunday's matchup with the Bills. Andy Dalton has taken all of the reps with the first-team offense Wednesday and Thursday and will likely be named the Panthers' Week 8 starting quarterback following Friday's practice.
Oct 22, 2025
Officially DNP to begin week
Young (ankle) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Young attended Carolina's first session of Week 8 prep in uniform and without a walking boot for the high-ankle sprain that he suffered this past Sunday at the Jets. Coach Dave Canales told Sheena Quick of Fox Sports Radio 1340 after practice Wednesday that the team isn't ruling out Young for Sunday's game agains the Bills, instead calling the third-year quarterback "day-to-day." Typically, such an injury results in a multi-week absence, but it appears both Young and backup QB Andy Dalton remain in the mix to start Week 8.
Oct 20, 2025
Diagnosed with high-ankle sprain
Young suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Jets and is expected to miss at least a Week 8 contest against the Bills, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Pelissero added that Young's sprain typically requires a recovery timeline of two-to-four weeks, and Andy Dalton is expected to start against Buffalo. Young was injured on a third-quarter sack Sunday, though X-rays did come back negative. Young being sidelined shouldn't significantly impact the fantasy outlook of the Panthers' pass catchers, as Dalton is a reliable veteran backup.
Oct 19, 2025
X-rays come back negative
X-rays on Young's right ankle were returned negative during Sunday's 13-6 win at the Jets, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young's ankle was twisted when he took a sack late in the third quarter, and the Panthers eventually ruled out the third-year pro from returning to the contest. He thus finished Week 7 having completed 15 of 25 passes for 138 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions and rushing twice for 10 yards. If Young needs to miss any time due to the injury, Carolina will turn to veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton to direct the offense.
Oct 19, 2025
Being evaluated further
Coach Dave Canales said after Sunday's 13-6 win at the Jets that Young is undergoing further tests on his right ankle, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Young left Sunday's game in the second half due to an ankle injury and eventually was ruled out, ending Week 7 action with 138 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions on 15-for-25 passing along with two carries for 10 yards. If Young requires any time on the sideline, veteran QB Andy Dalton is on hand for spot starts.
Oct 19, 2025
Ruled out of Sunday's game
Young (ankle) won't return to Sunday's game at the Jets, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Before he departed in the second half, Young completed 15 of 25 passes for 138 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, had two carries for 10 yards and recovered his own fumble. Andy Dalton will step in for Young for the remainder of Sunday's contest.
Oct 19, 2025
Hurts ankle Sunday
Young was forced out of Sunday's game against the Jets with an ankle injury, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Young completed 15 of his 25 passing attempts for 138 yards and a TD and carried twice for 10 yards. With Young injured, Andy Dalton is in at QB for the Panthers.
Oct 12, 2025
Tosses three TDs in win
Young completed 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and added three carries for five yards in the Panthers' 30-27 win over the Cowboys on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young's yardage total was far from scintillating, but the third-year signal-caller kept his team competitive throughout a back-and-forth affair against Dak Prescott and his high-powered offense. Young did his part with his trio of touchdown tosses, two which went to rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan from 19 and two yards out, respectively. Young also connected with Rico Dowdle for a 36-yard strike early in the third quarter, tying Young's single-game high for TD passes this season. The 2023 first overall pick has now been under 200 passing yards in four consecutive contests, but he'll carry the momentum of a season-best 68.0 percent completion rate into a Week 7 road matchup against the Jets.
Oct 5, 2025
Helps lead comeback Sunday
Young completed 19 of 30 passes for 198 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding three carries for one yard in the Panthers' 27-24 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Carolina managed to pull off a comeback from a 17-0 deficit, but Young had an uneven day that included three sacks in addition to his two turnovers. Rico Dowdle also helped carry the offense with his 206-yard, one-touchdown effort, but Young played a key part with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Legette that kickstarted the comeback late in the first half, and he added a four-yard toss to Mitchell Evans that proved to be the game-winning score. Young has thrown for under 200 yards in all but one game this season, so even with the encouraging team result for the Panthers on Sunday, he remains a somewhat shaky fantasy option even in a favorable Week 6 home matchup against the Cowboys.
Sep 28, 2025
Serviceable numbers in loss
Young completed 18 of 30 passes for 150 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while adding one rush for three yards in the Panthers' 42-13 loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young was pulled late for Andy Dalton in the 29-point defeat, and the third-year signal-caller was largely ineffective most of the afternoon despite his reasonable stat line. The highlight of the 2023 first overall pick's time in the game came very early, as Young capped off a crisp seven-play opening possession with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Tremble. Young couldn't come close to replicating his early success the rest of the way, and the fact the Pats ambushed Carolina with 21 second-quarter points also allowed New England's defense to pin its collective ears back. The now 1-3 Panthers will try to capitalize on what should be a favorable matchup against the middling Dolphins defense in a Week 5 home clash next Sunday.
Sep 22, 2025
Manages Carolina to win
Young completed 16 of 24 passes for 121 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Sunday's 30-0 win over the Falcons. He added two rushes for eight yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers were gifted several short fields early in Sunday's win and also had a pick-six to begin the second half. That limited what was required of Young, as he was able to primarily work in short areas of the field and focus on taking care of the ball. Young did manage to salvage some fantasy value with a four-yard scramble into the end zone midway through the first quarter, but he has now thrown for 155 or fewer yards with one or fewer total touchdowns in two of three games to begin the campaign.
Sep 14, 2025
Late surge isn't enough Sunday
Young completed 35 of 55 pass attempts for 328 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while rushing twice for two yards with a lost fumble in Sunday's 27-22 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Young was looking like he was headed towards another dreadful performance in a one-sided loss when the Panthers went into the break down 20-3. The young signal-caller flipped the script in the second half, firing off three touchdown passes on consecutive drives to make this a nail-biter. While his team still fell short in the end, Young reignited hope in fantasy managers with his stellar play to close out this contest. The top overall pick in the 2023 draft will be looking to ride the momentum from this outing into next Sunday's tilt against the Falcons.
Sep 7, 2025
Three turnovers in Week 1 loss
Young completed 18 of 35 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Jaguars. He added 40 rushing yards on five carries and also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The third-year QB had another rough start to an NFL campaign, and Young's only TD pass came late in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of hand. He did show flashes of chemistry with new top wideout Tetairoa McMillan (5-68-0 on nine targets), the eighth overall pick in the 2025 Draft, but otherwise there weren't many positives to take away from this performance. Young will try to clean things up on the road in Week 2 against the Cardinals.
Aug 16, 2025
Unproductive cameo Saturday
Young failed to complete either of his two pass attempts and rushed once for two yards in the Panthers' 20-3 preseason loss to the Texans on Saturday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
Young and his first-unit teammates only played two series, and as his final line indicates, the 2023 first overall pick couldn't get on the board as a passer. Young targeted Ja'Tavion Sanders and rookie sensation Tetairoa McMillan with his two throws, with the former unable to find the handle on his opportunity despite the ball hitting his hands. He also saw his first pass intercepted by Derek Stingley and returned 31 yards into Panthers territory, but the play was nullified by a defensive holding penalty. While it was an underwhelming cameo for Young to say the least, expectations remain high for him in Year 2 in Dave Canales' offense, and he also was sharp during joint practices against Houston earlier in the week. It remains to be seen if Young will see any playing time in Carolina's preseason finale against the Steelers on Thursday night.
Aug 8, 2025
Tosses TD in preseason opener
Young completed four of six passes for 58 yards and a touchdown during Friday's 30-10 preseason loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The third-year quarterback got the start but only handled the Panthers' first two drives before handing things over to Andy Dalton. Young made an impact in his brief time on the field however, capping his final possession with a five-yard TD strike to Jalen Coker, a score set up by a 29-yard connection with rookie wideout Tetairoa McMillan. Young showed signs of growth in 2024 after a disastrous rookie campaign, and Carolina is counting on the first overall pick in the 2023 Draft to take another big step forward with his development this season.
Aug 1, 2025
Will play in preseason
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that Young and other starters will play in the first two preseason games, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Young made one appearance last preseason, throwing a TD pass on his lone drive but then getting off to a dreadful start in the regular season. He was better later in the year after he returned from a benching, especially over the final few weeks, setting up 2025 as essentially a make-or-break season. The good news for Young, apart from his progress late last year, is that he has a solid offensive line in front of him -- with all five starters seemingly healthy right now -- and an upgrade group of pass catchers. Rookie No. 8 overall pick Tetairoa McMillan highlights the group, but there's also optimism coming out of Panthers camp about WR Xavier Legette and TE Ja'Tavion Sanders making strides in Year 2. It sounds like we'll see most of them next Friday (Aug. 8) when the Panthers kick off their preseason with a home exhibition against the Browns.
Jan 5, 2025
Five total TDs in OT win
Young completed 25 of 34 passes for 251 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed five times for 24 yards and another two touchdowns in the Panthers' 44-38 overtime win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young put a fitting cap to a strong stretch run in which he finally began to look a player befitting the top overall pick invested in him, tying a career high with his trio of touchdown passes and a new personal best with five total scores. The TD tosses went to Miles Sanders (33 yards), Tommy Tremble (12 yards) and David Moore (nine yards), and Young tacked on two more end-zone trips via two- and 10-yard rushes. The second-year signal-caller finished the regular season with three straight games with multiple touchdown passes, as well as four rushing scores in his last four contests. Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports that head coach Dave Canales gave his young quarterback a significant vote of confidence heading into the offseason, noting that "Bryce is our quarterback" and adding he was proud of how Young had successfully taken on the challenge of improving after being benched early in the campaign.
Dec 29, 2024
Serviceable numbers in loss
Young completed 15 of 28 passes for 203 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed twice for eight yards in the Panthers' 48-14 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also fumbled twice but Carolina retained possession.
ANALYSIS
Young wasn't very efficient during the lopsided loss, but he was able to salvage his fantasy day with touchdown passes of 17 and 40 yards to Adam Thielen in the first half. The second-year signal-caller otherwise found success hard to come by against what had been a vulnerable Buccaneers pass defense, and he extended his streak of games with at least one touchdown pass to nine. Young, who has undeniably improved since returning to the starting role in Week 8, will look to close out the campaign on a positive note on the road against the Falcons in Week 18.
Dec 22, 2024
Best start of 2024
Young completed 17 of 26 pass attempts for 158 yards and two touchdowns while adding 68 rushing yards and a third score on five carries in Sunday's 36-30 overtime win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Young saved his best performance to date in 2024 for the fantasy playoffs en route to an impressive upset victory. It was the struggling sophomore's first career game with three total touchdowns and no turnovers through 28 career starts with Carolina. Young's big day brought his TD:INT over 1.0 this season after throwing 11 touchdowns to 10 interceptions as a rookie in 2023. Head coach Dave Canales already gave his developing signal-caller a vote of confidence for the remainder of the regular season prior to Sunday's kickoff, setting up Young for a road start against Tampa Bay next Sunday.
Dec 20, 2024
Locked in as starter down the stretch
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Friday that Young will be the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Young has played much better since retaking the starting role in November, but he's coming off a four-turnover performance in a 30-14 loss to Dallas. The Panthers apparently will continue starting him for the final three games even if he struggles, with an injury perhaps being the exception that would get Andy Dalton back on the field. Carolina hosts Arizona this Sunday.
Dec 15, 2024
Four turnovers in loss
Young completed 19 of 28 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-14 loss to the Cowboys. He added three rushes for 12 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Young had turned the ball over only four times in six games since retaking the starting role entering Sunday's game, but he struggled to take care of the ball in Carolina's blowout loss with two picks and two lost fumbles. Those turnovers led directly to 10 points for Dallas. Young's day was also underwhelming in terms of his ability to move the offense, as a significant amount of his yardage came on an 83-yard touchdown toss to Jalen Coker. After showing signs of being a competent NFL starter, Young took a step back in the loss and now has only one passing touchdown in six straight games.
Dec 8, 2024
Struggles in Sunday's loss
Young completed 19 of 34 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Eagles. He also gained 29 rushing yards on seven carries.
ANALYSIS
While the second-year QB had some big moments late as the Panthers tried to pull off the upset, Young's inexperience also showed at times -- on Carolina's final drive, he got flagged for an illegal forward pass deep in his own end when he scrambled across the line of scrimmage before getting rid of the ball. The interception was Young's first turnover since Week 9, and he's thrown at least one TD in six straight straight games since regaining the starting job. He gets a much friendlier matchup on paper in Week 15 against the Cowboys.
Dec 1, 2024
Another effective performance
Young completed 26 of 46 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in Sunday's 26-23 overtime loss to the Buccaneers. He added three rushes for 17 yards and an additional touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Young primarily got to his impressive yardage total based on volume rather than efficiency, but he continues to lead a competent Panthers offense. He accounted for the team's first touchdown himself by scrambling for a 10-yard rush midway through the second quarter. Young also had strong moments as a passer, including a 25-yard touchdown strike to Adam Thielen in the second half in addition to an impressive drive that resulted in a field goal which began with only 43 seconds remaining in the first half, during which he went 5-for-8 for 49 yards. Perhaps most importantly, Young continued to limit mistakes by not turning the ball over for the third straight game while also taking only one sack.
Nov 24, 2024
Solid showing against KC
Young completed 21 of 35 passes for 263 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Chiefs. He added three rushes for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers came away with only nine first-half points, but Young kept the offense moving in the first two quarters by completing 10 of 18 passes for 177 yards. He managed to break through for a touchdown on a one-yard pass to David Moore midway through the third quarter, and Young also managed four completions of at least 20 yards -- his highest mark in a game this season. The only shortcoming of his performance was a single touchdown pass, but this was almost certainly his best start of the campaign. His position as Carolina's starter in the short-term is also seemingly no longer in question, as coach Dave Canales said that Young will start in Week 13 against Tampa Bay, per David Newton of ESPN.com.
Nov 18, 2024
Remains starter after bye week
Panthers head coach Dave Canales confirmed that Young will remain the team's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
After a five-game benching earlier in the season, Young returned to the starting lineup Week 8, when Andy Dalton was unavailable after suffering a thumb injury in a car accident. Though Dalton was cleared to resume playing Week 9, Young proceeded to start in both of the Panthers' final two games prior to their Week 11 bye, guiding Carolina to wins over the Saints and Giants while completing 60.8 percent of his passes for 5.8 yards per attempt and a 2:1 TD:INT between those two victories. While his numbers since reclaiming the starting role aren't overly impressive, Young has still taken a step forward from his lowly production during his 2023 rookie campaign and the first two games of 2024. He'll remain a low-end fantasy option while he continues to start for Carolina, with his utility largely limited to leagues that start two quarterbacks or have a QB flex spot.
Nov 10, 2024
Modest numbers in OT victory
Young completed 15 of 25 passes for 126 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions while adding two rushes for 30 yards in the Panthers' 20-17 overtime win over the Giants in Munich on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young once again carried out a very conservative game plan that saw him average a miniscule 5.0 yards per attempt, but the embattled second-year pro stayed away from any turnovers and mostly road the coattails of Chuba Hubbard, who put together a career-best effort on the ground. Young hit rookie tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders from five yards out in the first quarter for his one touchdown pass, and the former has clearly shown improvement in his second go-around as the starting quarterback following a mostly disastrous start to his second campaign. Young heads into the Panthers' Week 11 bye with a 4:3 TD:INT over his current three-start tenure in the top job but will face a daunting Week 12 matchup at home against the Chiefs on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Nov 6, 2024
Named as Week 10 starter
Young will start Sunday's game against the Giants in Munich, but Panthers coach Dave Canales isn't committing to anything beyond Week 10, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
In other words, it'll still be a week-to-week situation, with Young perpetually a bad game or two away from handing things back over to Andy Dalton. The 23-year-old will make his third consecutive start this Sunday, after pulling off a 23-22 win over the Saints in Week 9 to improve his career record as a starter to 3-17.
Nov 6, 2024
Likely getting another start
Young appears likely to start this Sunday against the Giants in Munich, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers haven't yet named a starter, with GM Dan Morgan deferring Wednesday to coach Dave Canales, but Newton suggests that "everything points toward Young starting his third straight game." Last year's No. 1 overall pick earned his third career win this past Sunday, albeit with a modest passing line (16-of-26 for 171 yards, one TD and one INT) in a 23-22 victory over the injury-riddled Saints. Andy Dalton was active for the contest as a backup, after missing the prior game due to a thumb sprain suffered in a car accident.
Nov 3, 2024
Helps lead rare victory
Young completed 16 of 26 passes for 171 yards with a touchdown and an interception and rushed four times for nine yards in the Panthers' 23-22 win over the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young logged a second consecutive start and helped lead the Panthers to only their second win of the season, putting together a serviceable performance that included a three-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Legette in the second quarter. Young also had a critical 26-yard completion to Legette on Carolina's game-winning drive, and given his second straight encouraging performance, he'll presumably hold on to the top job for a Week 10 matchup against the Giants in Germany.
Oct 30, 2024
Named starter for Week 9
Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Wednesday that Young will start Sunday against the Saints despite Andy Dalton (thumb) returning to practice as a full participant, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young threw his first touchdowns of the season during Carolina's 28-14 loss to the Broncos in Week 8, in which he completed 24 of 27 passes for 224 yards and two TDs with two interceptions. Diontae Johnson (rib) was inactive for that contest and has since been traded to Baltimore, but the Panthers could get Adam Thielen (hamstring) back from IR as soon as Week 9. It was encouraging to see Young showcase some chemistry with UDFA Jalen Coker (6-78-1) as well as first-rounder Xavier Legette (4-34-1), both of whom are rookies, during Carolina's loss to Denver. With Canales having declined Wednesday to commit to a rest-of-season starter at quarterback, per David Newton of ESPN.com, Young will need to continue showing flashes versus New Orleans in order to maintain a starting role.
Oct 28, 2024
Tosses first TDs of season
Young completed 24 of 27 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Broncos. He added six rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
In his return to the starting lineup, the second-year quarterback put together his best performance of the season. Young connected with Xavier Legette on a six-yard score in the first quarter for his first TD pass of the year, and then found Jalen Coker for a 15-yard strike in the fourth quarter. His 224 passes yards were also a season high. Young's two INTs highlight how far he has to go to be viewed as a reliable option under center, but Sunday's effort was at least something he'll be able to build on if he gets another start in Week 9 against the Saints.
Oct 27, 2024
Could start beyond Week 8
Young will start Sunday's game against the Broncos in place of the injured Andy Dalton (thumb), and the second-year quarterback could have the opportunity to keep the starting job beyond this week if he plays well in Denver, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though he was benched after leading the Panthers to uncompetitive losses in the first two games of 2024, Young was always expected to get another look in a starting role before the end of the season after getting some extended time to watch from the bench. However, with Dalton spraining his thumb in a car accident Tuesday and being listed as doubtful for the Week 8 contest, Young will return to the starting role perhaps a bit sooner than anticipated. While serving as the Panthers' scout-team quarterback for the past five weeks, Young has remained "engaged and involved," according to head coach Dave Canales, and the Panthers are hoping that the time off from starting with leave the 23-year-old better prepared as he returns to the lineup Sunday. Young won't be set up especially well for success in his first start since Week 2, as he'll not only be facing off against an imposing Denver defense, but he'll also be operating without his top two receivers in Diontae Johnson (rib) and Adam Thielen (hamstring).

Starting Week 8 with Dalton hurt
Coach Dave Canales announced Wednesday that Young will start Sunday's game in Denver over Andy Dalton (thumb), Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Young will get a chance at redemption after being benched for Dalton in Week 3. Young failed to throw a touchdown pass prior to his benching, but with Dalton coming off a dreadful showing in this past Sunday's 40-7 loss to the Commanders, Young has a chance to reclaim the starting role moving forward if he shows improvement against the Broncos. Dalton doesn't have a firm return timetable after spraining his thumb in a car accident Tuesday.
Oct 21, 2024
Enters late in blowout loss
Young completed both of his pass attempts for minus-4 yards in Sunday's 40-7 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
The second-year signal-caller replaced Andy Dalton as the Panthers were down by 33 points on the team's final offensive drive and proceeded to complete a two-yard pass followed by a minus-6 yard pass, leading to yet another three-and-out. When head coach Dave Canales was asked about Young potentially starting in Week 8 against the Broncos, he told reporters that the Panthers are still committed to Dalton this week, explaining that the offense has been more fluid and even explosive at times under Dalton, per David Newton of ESPN.com. Young is expected to get another opportunity to start in Carolina at some point this season, especially with the team's 1-6 record to begin the year.
Oct 8, 2024
Fares well in garbage time
Young completed four of seven pass attempts for 58 yards and carried once for eight yards in Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
With the Panthers trailing by 26 points with 4:15 remaining in the fourth quarter, head coach Dave Canales turned the offense over to Young, who entered for his first appearance since losing his starting role to veteran Andy Dalton in Week 3. Though the Bears' big lead may have resulted in him facing more vanilla defensive schemes, Young drew praise for his brief cameo from Canales, who said the No. 1 overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft did a "fantastic job," per David Newton of ESPN.com. Canales relayed that Dalton will draw a fourth straight start Week 6 against the Falcons, but given the Panthers' investment in him, Young should get another opportunity to start at some point before the season comes to a close.
Sep 22, 2024
Expected to start again in 2024
The Panthers eventually expect to restore Young as their starting quarterback, though a timeline for him to reclaim the job from veteran Andy Dalton hasn't been established, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Young was sent to the bench after completing 31 of 56 pass attempts for 245 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while taking six sacks in the Panthers' first two games, non-competitive losses to the Saints and Chargers. Though Young has now gone just 2-16 as a starter since entering the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Panthers apparently aren't yet ready to pull the plug on the 23-year-old's development. According to sources familiar with the situation, Rapoport relays that Young's removal from the starting role is "viewed as a timeout" for the young signal-caller and "not a season-long benching." Young has reportedly handled his demotion well and has continued to work in practice this week as the scout-team quarterback, and the Panthers are hopeful that at least one game of watching from the sideline will be beneficial. Head coach Dave Canales will likely provide an update on the team's plans at quarterback following Dalton's first start Sunday in Las Vegas.

Drawing trade interest
Young has received trade interest from several teams despite Panthers coach Dave Canales saying the organization doesn't intend to move the second-year quarterback, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Young has struggled thus far in 2024, completing just 31 of 56 passes for 245 yards and a 0:3 TD:INT while rushing five times for 18 yards and a touchdown through two games (both losses). Carolina decided to bench Young for Week 3 in favor of veteran Andy Dalton in hope of getting the team's offense going, but Canales said this week that trading the 24-year-old is not currently a consideration for the Panthers. Still, it's not surprising that other organizations have reached out to gauge Young's availability, as the Alabama product has undeniable talent and pedigree as the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Sep 18, 2024
Not on trade block
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Wednesday that trading the recently benched Young is "not something we're really considering," David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
"We have a great situation with our quarterbacks right now with guys that have experience," Canales continued. "We love where we are at, and it's all hands on deck." After the Panthers were out-scored 73-13 over the first two weeks, Canales made the quick decision to pull the plug on Young, replacing him as the starter with steady veteran Andy Dalton. During the two losses, Young completed just 31 of 56 passes (55.4 percent) for 245 yards (4.4 yards per attempt), zero touchdowns and three interceptions. Only 10 of his 56 throws produced a first down, and Young absorbed six sacks. The Panthers are hoping a hard reset will help Young realize his No. 1 overall pick potential, but Canales didn't exactly completely rule out a future Young trade with his comments.
Sep 16, 2024
Benched in favor of Dalton
The Panthers decided Monday to bench Young and start veteran Andy Dalton beginning Week 3 versus the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Panthers coach Dave Canales called Young "our quarterback" after Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Chargers, but after a disastrous rookie year, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick will now head to the bench after just two games in his sophomore season. Carolina will turn to Dalton after an 0-2 start with the hopes of finding some type of rhythm on offense, with Young having thrown for just 245 passing yards combined, three interceptions and no touchdowns in that span. It's unclear whether the Panthers will consider giving Young another chance under center down the stretch.
Sep 16, 2024
Set to keep starting job
Head coach Dave Canales said after Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Chargers that Young will remain the team's starting quarterback heading into the Panthers' Week 3 matchup with the Raiders, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. "Bryce is our quarterback,'' Canales said. "We're going to continue to shore and fix the things we need to fundamentally, from a scheme standpoint, all those things."
ANALYSIS
After a rough rookie year, Young hasn't shown any sign of improvement in his sophomore campaign under the watch of Canales, who was hired as Carolina's head coach this offseason after he helped coax a career-best season out of Baker Mayfield while serving as Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator in 2023. The Panthers haven't been competitive in losses to the Saints and Chargers to begin the season, with Young completing just 31 of 56 pass attempts (55.4 percent) for 245 yards (4.4 YPA), no touchdowns and three interceptions while taking six sacks. Though Young is now just 2-16 as a starter through his first two NFL seasons, the Panthers aren't yet willing to pull the plug on the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, whom the franchise invested significant resources into acquiring. That being said, if the Panthers offense continues to sputter in Week 3 or in any future starts that may follow for Young, the clamoring for veteran backup Andy Dalton to replace Young could grow louder.
Sep 15, 2024
Another forgettable performance
Young completed 18 of 26 passes for 84 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while adding one carry for six yards in the Panthers' 26-3 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Young's final line looks deceptively efficient, but an average of only 3.2 yards per attempt, the high completion rate was meaningless. Young once again frequently looked indecisive and under duress, and he's now throwing for only 245 combined yards through his first two games while generating an 0:3 TD:INT. Head coach Dave Canales, who essentially was brought in to help turn Young's career around, figures to stick with the 2023 first overall pick for the time being, but heading into a Week 3 road battle versus the Raiders, the struggling quarterback looks no better than during his embattled rookie campaign.
Sep 8, 2024
Rough start to sophomore season
Young completed 13 of 30 passes for 161 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 47-10 rout at the hands of the Saints. He added 12 rushing yards and a touchdown on four carries.
ANALYSIS
The rushing TD salvaged some fantasy value for the second-year QB, but Young looked no better as a passer in the 2024 season opener than he did in his disastrous rookie campaign. Building the 2023 first overall pick back up is a long-term project for Dave Canales and the Panthers' new coaching staff, but it didn't get off to an encouraging start. Young will try to shake off this performance and keep his team in the game in Week 2 against the Chargers.
Aug 24, 2024
Tosses TD on lone drive Saturday
Young completed six of eight passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 31-26 preseason win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Young was effective on his only drive in the game, converting a 4th-and-three with a 17-yard pass to Diontae Johnson before connecting with tight end Jordan Matthews for an eight-yard touchdown. Those are two of the offseason additions to a new-look Panthers passing game under new head coach Dave Canales. The Panthers are hoping these changes will help Young bounce back from an underwhelming rookie season in which he threw for only 2,877 yards and an 11:10 TD:INT. The 2023 first overall pick will look to begin his regular-season redemption arc Sept. 8 in New Orleans.
Aug 22, 2024
Scheduled to play Saturday
Young and other starters are scheduled to play in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Dave Canales wants to use the final exhibition as a dress rehearsal after resting his starters for the first two weeks of the preseason. It'll be the only opportunity to see Young in a game setting before Carolina's Week 1 road matchup with the Saints.
Aug 17, 2024
Not playing Saturday
Young isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game versus the Jets, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Young thus will have one more chance to handle some game action during exhibition season next Saturday in Buffalo. With Andy Dalton also not suiting up this weekend, Jack Plummer and Jake Luton will be the available signal-callers for the Panthers. Once Week 1 rolls around, Young will be looking to bounce back from a forgettable rookie campaign in 2023 in which he passed for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, rushed for 253 yards and fumbled 11 times (six lost) in 16 regular-season contests.
Aug 6, 2024
Won't play Thursday
Young won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots, Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Dave Canales previously said Young might not play at all this preseason and now has confirmed the QB will be held out for the first exhibition. With Andy Dalton nursing a quad injury and also unavailable, the Panthers will rely on Jack Plummer and recent signing Jake Luton -- a situation that seemingly sets up Plummer for a lot of playing time.
Aug 5, 2024
May not play at all in preseason
Coach Dave Canales said Monday there's "a chance" Young won't suit up for any of Carolina's preseason games, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young is unlikely to suit up for Thursday's preseason opener against New England, per David Newton of ESPN, particularly with backup Andy Dalton (hamstring) already sidelined. Rookie Jack Plummer could realistically start Thursday's preseason game, and Carolina inked Jake Luton on Monday to provide extra depth. Rookie first-round wideout Xavier Legette (foot) also seems unlikely for Thursday, so though it would benefit Young to get some reps in with new center Austin Corbett, as well as new veteran target Diontae Johnson, it sounds as though the 2023 No. 1 overall pick isn't in consideration for immediate preseason action. What remains to be seen is whether Young will be in consideration for preseason reps when the rest of the offense is in a healthier state.
Mar 14, 2024
Surrounding cast improves
Young appears primed to benefit from improved surroundings on offense Year 2, with the Panthers adding names like wide receiver Diontae Johnson and guard Robert Hunt in free agency, David Newton of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Young is coming off a completely forgettable rookie campaign, having completed just 315 of 527 pass attempts for 2,877 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions across 16 games. He surpassed 200 yards in just five of those contests. A real part of the blame must fall on Carolina's mediocre offensive personnel and scheme, and things already appear to be improving under new head coach Dave Canales. Trading for Diontae Johnson provides Young with a versatile and trustworthy No. 1 target, after a rookie year in which his only reliable wideout was a 33-year-old Adam Thielen. Inking Hunt to a massive-five year deal ought to provide Young, who was second in the league last season with 62 sacks, with more reliable protection for the foreseeable future, and the signing of Damien Lewis to a four-year deal locks up both guard positions. Expect Carolina to do more to help Young in April's draft, where they will first pick in the second round at No. 33 overall.
Jan 7, 2024
Forgettable end to season Sunday
Young completed 11 of 18 passes for 94 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for 24 yards in the Panthers' 9-0 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Young also took three sacks and finished with a quarterback rating of 39.1, a microcosm of his utterly forgettable rookie season. The first overall pick once again had trouble pushing the ball down the field, as he averaged only 5.2 yards per attempt, and his yardage total was a season low. Young finished with under 200 passing yards in all but five of his 16 games while throwing just 11 touchdowns and tossing 10 interceptions. There's hope a new coaching staff and offense -- not to mention better pass-catching weapons -- can turn Young around in his second NFL season, but the rookie heads into his first NFL offseason with plenty of questions surrounding him.
Jan 1, 2024
Regresses in Week 17 loss
Young completed 19 of 32 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added one rush for two yards in the Panthers' 26-0 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
A week after throwing for a career-best 312 yards and two touchdowns, Young endured a completely forgettable performance that saw him take six sacks while producing his lowest passing yardage total yet. Young has now thrown for under 200 yards in eight of his last nine contests, and he'll have one more chance to move the needle on the perception that he may have been a mistake as the first overall pick when the Panthers close out the season at home against the Buccaneers in Week 18.
Dec 24, 2023
Career-best game in loss
Young completed 23 of 35 passes for 312 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Panthers' 33-30 loss to the Packers on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 17 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers appeared to be on the way to another lopsided loss aft halftime, when they already trailed 23-10. However, Young was able to lead a 14-play, 72-yard drive in the third quarter that culminated in a Chuba Hubbard rushing touchdown while the defense kept the Packers off the board during the period, Young then came alive in the fourth quarter, tossing 11- and 10-yard touchdown passes to DJ Chark to get Carolina within striking distance. The rookie first overall pick then hit Chark and Adam Thielen for a pair of 22-yard completions on the final drive to get the Panthers to the Packers' 31-yard line but was unable to spike the ball before the clock hit zeroes. Despite the disappointing final outcome, Young should go into a Week 17 road matchup against the Jaguars on New Year's Eve with newfound confidence stemming from his first career 300-yard effort.
Dec 17, 2023
Free of turnovers in win
Young completed 18 of 24 passes for 167 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed four times for nine yards in the Panthers' 9-7 win over the Falcons on Sunday. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Young oversaw another mostly abysmal offensive day for the Panthers, but he at least managed to avoid turnovers and was able to help guide his team to just their second win of the campaign. The rookie first overall pick hit eight different targets overall, despite the fact his pass-attempt total was his lowest of his brief career. Young's efficiency was an especially welcome sight after he completed just 41.8 percent of his passes over the previous pair of contests, and he'll aim to carry over the momentum into a Week 16 home matchup against the Packers on Christmas Eve.
Dec 10, 2023
Struggles continue in Week 14 loss
Young completed 13 of 36 passes for 137 yards and rushed three times for 40 yards in Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Saints. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Young had a putrid first half, even by the modest standards he has established in an underwhelming rookie season. Carolina took a 14-3 deficit into the locker room, as Young completed just three of 15 passes for 29 yards, in addition to losing a fumble. He was only marginally better in the second half, as the Panthers failed to score a touchdown and dropped to 1-12. A small silver lining for Young is that he finished just one rushing yard shy of his career high, but the disappointment in the 2023 first overall pick continues to grow heading into a Week 15 home game against the Falcons.
Dec 4, 2023
Another rough outing
Young completed 15 of 31 passes for 178 yards and an interception in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Buccaneers. He also ran in a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
The rookie quarterback had a chance to put together a game-tying or game-winning drive on the Panthers' final possession, but Antoine Winfield picked off a pass intended for Adam Thielen on fourth and one. It's the fifth straight game in which Young failed to reach 200 passing yards and his fourth straight with a completion rate below 60 percent, and Carolina's coaching changes didn't have much impact on his performance. Young will take a disappointing 9:9 TD:INT through his first 11 NFL games into a Week 14 clash with the Saints.
Nov 26, 2023
Struggles to move offense in loss
Young completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers ran a run-heavy gameplan to take some pressure off Young, but he struggled when called upon. He averaged only 6.3 yards per attempt, took four sacks and also lost a fumble. To make matters worse, Young has now failed to top 200 passing yards in four consecutive games and has two touchdowns, four interceptions and two lost fumbles in that span.
Nov 19, 2023
Trouble with turnovers again
Young completed 16 of 29 passes for 123 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Panthers' 33-10 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. He also rushed twice for three yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Young once again turned in a very underwhelming performance through the air, averaging only 4.2 yards per attempt and primarily focusing on Adam Thielen when dropping back. The veteran receiver was responsible for half of Young's completions and 74 of his passing yards, with the first overall pick repeatedly running into trouble, including tossing pick-six, when trying to focus on his other pass catchers. Young has now thrown for under 200 yards in three consecutive games while mustering a 2:4 TD:INT in that sample as well. so he'll head into a Week 12 road matchup versus a Titans defense that's normally a favorable matchup for air attacks.
Nov 19, 2023
Reich calling plays again
Young's head coach Frank Reich has taken the play calling duties back over again, Jay Glazer reported on Fox NFL Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Glazer further reported that Reich is on the hot seat despite this being his first season as Carolina's head coach. Young's lack of development is a good starting point for explaining that status.
Nov 9, 2023
Struggles again in Week 10 loss
Young completed 21 of 38 passes for 185 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed three times for 18 yards in the Panthers' 16-13 loss to the Bears on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Young fell short of the 200-yard mark through the air for the second straight contest, and although he avoided turnovers after a three-interception tally in Week 9, he was still mostly ineffective. The Panthers punted in six of their first seven possessions, and their longest march, a 15-play drive in the fourth quarter, ended in a missed would-be game-tying 59-yard field-goal attempt. Young will have an uphill battle trying to right the ship in a Week 11 home matchup against the Cowboys on Nov. 19.
Nov 5, 2023
Awful performance in loss
Young completed 24 of 39 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Colts. He added 41 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
While three picks were bad enough, the fact that two of them were returned for touchdowns by Kenny Moore -- one for 49 yards in the second quarter and the second for 66 yards in the fourth -- ensured the Panthers had no hope of mounting a comeback. Young continues to experience significant growing pains as a rookie, and he's tossed multiple TDs only once in his first seven NFL starts but has been intercepted multiple times on three occasions, leaving him with an 8:7 TD:INT. Joe Person of The Athletic reports that coach Frank Reich has given no thought to benching Young for veteran Andy Dalton, and a switch under center would be even trickier to manage on a short week as the Panthers begin preparations for a Thursday night matchup with the Bears in Week 10.
Oct 29, 2023
Gets first NFL win
Young completed 22 of 31 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 15-13 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Matched up against C.J. Stroud, the player taken immediately after him in the 2023 NFL Draft, Young came out on top in a tight defensive battle to get his first win as a pro. The Alabama product's 7.6 YPA was his best mark of the season, and Young's 40-yard completion to Jonathan Mingo on Carolina's first drive of the second half was the longest of both rookies' careers. With his numbers slowly improving, Young could have value outside of two-QB formats in Week 9 against a Colts team that's been involved in high-scoring games in three straight weeks, including a 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Oct 15, 2023
Another inefficient showing
Young completed 23 of 38 passes for 217 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Young got the Carolina offense on track early, leading touchdown drives on two of the team's first three possessions. On those two drives, he accounted for 74 yards and appeared to be showing signs of progress in his fifth career NFL game. Things stalled from there, however, as Young ended up averaging only 5.7 yards per attempt. Positively, he didn't turn the ball over for the first time in his rookie campaign and has now topped 200 passing yards in three consecutive contests.
Oct 8, 2023
Late touchdowns in loss
Young completed 25 of 41 passes for 247 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 42-24 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Young's two turnovers both led to Detroit touchdowns, digging Carolina an 18-point deficit by halftime. Although he was able to salvage some production in the fourth quarter with touchdown tosses to DJ Chark and Adam Thielen, Young's career-best yardage and TD totals came in a sizeable loss. The rookie could very well find himself playing from behind yet again in Week 6 at the Dolphins.
Oct 1, 2023
Costly fumble in return
Young completed 25 of 32 passes for 204 yards in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings. He also rushed twice for 10 yards but was sacked five times and had a fumble returned for a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Young returned from his one-week absence to post personal bests in completions and passing yards, but his performance wasn't enough to earn a first victory. In fact, Young's fumble during the third quarter saw Carolina fall behind and never recover. Without any touchdowns, either, it was another learning experience for the rookie No. 1 pick.
Sep 27, 2023
Set to play after full practice
Young (ankle) was a full practice participant Wednesday, putting him on track to start Sunday's game against the Vikings, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Carolina's passing game fared better Week 3 with Andy Dalton under center in a 37-27 loss to Seattle, though it was also a better matchup than what Young got dealt Weeks 1 (at ATL) and 2 (vs. NO). The rookie will now get his shot at one of the worst defenses in the league, returning for Sunday's game against the Vikings after missing just one week of action due to an ankle sprain.
Sep 27, 2023
In line to practice
Young (ankle) will practice Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Young missed last weekend's game against the Seahawks, but he'll practice in some capacity Wednesday. For his part, coach Frank Reich relayed that Young tested his ankle Tuesday and is making progress as Sunday's game against the Vikings approaches. The Panthers' looming injury report will reveal the QB's official participation level, but at this stage Young appears to be trending in the right direction ahead of Week 4 action.
Sep 22, 2023
Should be back Week 4 or 5
Young (ankle) won't play Sunday in Seattle but is expected back for Week 4 against Minnesota or Week 5 at Detroit, Augusta Stone of the Panthers' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Frank Reich made it clear he doesn't expect Young to be out long despite missing every practice the team held this week. Andy Dalton will start in Seattle this Sunday, which might actually be an upgrade for Carolina's pass catchers given the way Young has struggled so far. It's a two-game sample, to be fair, and he'll return to the starting job once he's healthy even if the offense looks better with Dalton at the helm the next week or two.
Sep 22, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Young (ankle) didn't participate in Friday's practice and has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Andy Dalton will start at QB for the Panthers, with Jake Luton expected to be called up from the practice squad to serve as the team's backup in Week 3. Young will now target a potential return to action when Carolina plays Minnesota on Oct. 1.
Sep 21, 2023
Likely to sit out Week 3
The Panthers announced that Young (ankle) is unlikely to play Sunday in Seattle after sitting out practices Wednesday and Thursday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Andy Dalton took reps with the first-team offense for the second day in a row and is trending toward the Week 3 start while Young nurses the ankle injury he picked up in the Panthers' 20-17 loss to the Saints on Monday. Carolina hasn't officially ruled Young out from suiting up Sunday, but even if he practices in some fashion Friday and avoids the inactive list, he may be available only in a backup capacity behind Dalton. Carolina signed Jake Luton to its practice squad Wednesday and would likely elevate him to the 53-man roster if Young isn't deemed fit to handle backup duties this weekend.
Sep 21, 2023
Missing another practice
Young (ankle) won't participate in Thursday's practice, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Young is tending to an ankle issue in the aftermath of Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints, but the severity of the injury remains unclear. The rookie signal-caller was estimated as a non-participant for Wednesday's walk-through practice and will now remain off the field Thursday while the Panthers reconvene for a more traditional practice. As Newton notes, Thursday's practice is a critical day in terms of installing the game plan for Sunday's game against Seattle, so Young's absence from the field likely hints that he's trending toward missing out on the start this weekend. Before ruling on his status for Week 3, the Panthers will wait and see what Young is able to do at practice Friday, if anything. If Young is ruled out for Sunday or is available only as an emergency backup, veteran Andy Dalton would receive the start under center.
Sep 20, 2023
Misses walkthrough
Young (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's walkthrough practice.
ANALYSIS
Young injured his ankle during Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints, and his status for Carolina's road matchup against the Seahawks in Week 3 now looks uncertain. Coach Frank Reich said that Thursday's practice will reveal more information about Young's status, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. The Panthers have a capable veteran in the form of Andy Dalton ready to step up under center if Young is forced to miss any time.
Sep 18, 2023
Struggles in Week 2 loss
Young completed 22 of 33 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 20-17 loss to the Saints. He also threw a two-point conversion, rushed twice for 34 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Young took advantage of favorable field position to lead field-goal drives in the first and third quarters, but he lost a costly fumble just outside the red zone with Carolina trailing 6-3 late in the first half and had another would-be fumble in the third quarter erased by a defensive holding penalty. The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft led the Panthers to another field goal in the fourth before finally leading a touchdown drive in the final minutes with the Saints playing prevent defense up multiple scores. Young connected with Adam Thielen for both a three-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion on that final drive. A Week 3 road matchup against a Seattle defense that allowed 30 or more points per game in each of its first two games could help Young post a breakout performance after throwing for less than 300 yards over his first two NFL starts combined.

Uneven pro debut Sunday
Young completed 20 of 38 passes for 146 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions and added three carries for 17 yards in the Panthers' 24-10 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
The rookie first overall pick naturally had the spotlight on him in the season-opening divisional matchup, and Young unsurprisingly delivered somewhat uneven results. The Falcons compressed the field significantly for Young, holding him to a meager 3.8 yards per attempt while also sacking him and picking him off two times apiece. The pair of interceptions led to 10 total points for Atlanta, while his one scoring toss went to tight end Hayden Hurst. Young did connect with eight different targets overall on the afternoon and was missing DJ Chark (hamstring), supporting the notion better days could soon be ahead. However, Young will run into another unenviable matchup in his second career start, as he'll take on a vaunted Saints defense that picked the Titans' Ryan Tannehill off three times in Week 1.

Finishes preseason strong
Young completed seven of 12 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason matchup with Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Young added three carries for 21 yards, leading the Panthers to 10 points over two drives against Detroit's second-string defense. The rookie capped off his night with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Adam Thielen, who was the only player to see more than two targets with the starting offense. Young finishes the preseason 14-of-24 passing (58.3 percent) for 129 yards (5.4 YPA) and a touchdown, having played two or three drives in each of Carolina's three exhibitions. He'll make his regular-season NFL debut in Atlanta on Sept. 10.

To start preseason finale
Young is slated to start Friday's preseason finale against the Lions, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Young has been quiet in his first two career exhibition matchups, but the rookie No. 1 overall pick will have one more opportunity to show his talents before facing regular-season action. In each of Carolina's first two preseason games Young only handled two or three drives, but the team could elect to feature him longer versus Detroit on Friday.

Another quiet performance
Young completed three of six passes for 35 yards in Friday's preseason loss to the Giants. He added one rushing yard on one carry.
ANALYSIS
The rookie led the Panthers to one field goal on his two drives before checking out of the game. Young hasn't posted big numbers in his first two exhibition appearances, but the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft remains on track to open the regular season as Carolina's starting QB. If there's a positive takeaway from Friday's effort, it's that Young completed passes to each of his top three wideouts -- DJ Chark, Adam Thielen and Jonathan Mingo -- on his one scoring drive as he works to build chemistry with the trio.

In line for three drives Friday
Young is expected to start and play about three possessions during Friday's preseason game at the Giants, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Young logged 11 snaps on three drives in the Panthers' exhibition opener last Saturday against the Jets en route to 21 yards on 4-for-6 passing. Carolina didn't put up any points during his time on the field, so the coaching staff likely will be looking to make progress on that front. Once Young hits the sidelines for good Friday, he'll be handing off the offense to second-year pro Matt Corral due to backup Andy Dalton sitting out with a tight back.

In line to play Friday
Young and Carolina's starters are on track see some action in Friday's preseason game against the Giants, Schuyler Callihan of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As for how much work Young might see Friday, coach Frank Reich noted "probably similar to last game as far as play time. You know, plus or minus." In this past Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets, Young started and logged 11 snaps, en route to completing four of six passes for 21 yards, before giving way to Matt Corral.

Disappointing debut
Young completed four of six passes for 21 yards in Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Young didn't show much in his NFL debut, but Matt Corral didn't fare any better over the remainder of the game upon replacing Young after three drives. The first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft could see more extensive action in the team's second preseason game against the Giants as Young and the rest of Carolina's new-look first-team offense try to gain confidence and chemistry ahead of the regular season.

Starting preseason opener
Young will start Carolina's first preseason game Saturday against the Jets, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Frank Reich said he has a plan regarding how long Young would stay in the game, though he wouldn't elaborate on the details of the plan. Saturday will mark the much-anticipated NFL debut for Young, whom the Panthers selected first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Alabama after trading up. Young will likely be accompanied by most or all of Carolina's first-team offense for the duration of his time in the game.

Named No.1 QB
Coach Frank Reich named Young the Panthers' No. 1 quarterback on Wednesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Young, the top overall pick of April's draft, has worked with the first-team unit since the beginning of OTAs, and Reich now confirms that Carolina plans for him to start Week 1 over veteran backup Andy Dalton. The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that Young clearly represents the Panthers' future at the quarterback position and projects as a relatively NFL-ready rookie. Announcing Young as the starter early and giving him plenty of first-team reps throughout camp will give the Alabama product plenty of time to learn the playbook and build chemistry with Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, Terrace Marshall and Jonathan Mingo, plus tight end Hayden Hurst.

Works with first team
Young handled all the Panthers' first-team reps QB during Thursday's practice, Joseph Person and Larry Holder of the Athletic report.
ANALYSIS
Previously, both Young and veteran Andy Dalton had been taking first-team reps during OTAs, but the report notes that coach Frank Reich and GM Scott Fitterer had been eyeing this week as the time to transition to the rookie working more extensively with the top unit. Though Young has yet to be officially named the Panthers' Week 1 starter, it would be a surprise if the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft doesn't land the assignment.

Works with first team
Young split first-team reps with Andy Dalton on the first day of OTAs, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Andy Dalton took the initial reps, but he and Young ultimately evenly split pass attempts evenly with the first-team offense. Earlier in May, coach Frank Reich stated that Young would work with backups to start OTAs, though it appears he's already scrapped that plan. While it will almost certainly take some time for the Panthers to make an official announcement as to their starting quarterback to begin the season, Young looks to be trending toward that role.

Opening OTAs with second unit
Panthers coach Frank Reich said Young will work with the second-team offense at the beginning of OTAs, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Young was the No. 1 overall pick after two full seasons as an SEC starter, the real question is whether he'll be promoted to the first unit before the start of training camp or sometime later in the summer. It'll be surprising if Andy Dalton lasts beyond early-to-mid August with the first unit and shocking if Dalton gets the Week 1 start (absent an injury to the rookie). The strong probability of Young starting most/all of the season makes him relevant in superflex and two-QB leagues, but he's much less intriguing in single-QB redraft, as he didn't run much at Alabama and has mediocre receiving options in Carolina. The Panthers do at least have a promising offensive line, and they took WR Jonathan Mingo in the second round after signing RB Miles Sanders, TE Hayden Hurst and WRs Adam Thielen and DJ Chark earlier this offseason. The 5-foot-10 rookie thus figures to be mostly surrounded by competent players, though not particularly exciting ones at the skill positions.

Goes first overall to Carolina
The Panthers selected Young in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, first overall.
ANALYSIS
There was plenty of intrigue as to which direction the Panthers would go after giving up a haul to move into the first overall slot. C.J. Stroud and even Will Levis were bandied about as legitimate candidates to go to Carolina, but the team landed on the decorated signal-caller out of Alabama. Young for his own part is a bit of a polarizing prospect. His production as a two-year starter was prolific, and the film shows him to be a decisive and accurate quarterback with next-level anticipation. That said, Young being a success in the NFL would be somewhat unprecedented. He's often compared to Kyler Murray in terms of stature, but while Murray was a prolific runner at Oklahoma, that wasn't much of a calling card for Young (185 total rushing yards in two seasons as the starter). At 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds with average arm strength on deep passes, there's reason for concern that the speed and physicality at the next level will prevent him from reaching his ceiling. As for his fit in Carolina, the Panthers are ju
